Latitude 12 slim keyboard (for 7275) touchpad doesn't work

Question: Latitude 12 slim keyboard (for 7275) touchpad doesn't work

The touchpad on the keyboard does not work - and the keyboard itself intermittently doesn't work. I have an external mouse and keyboard attached. Have disconnected them, updated the driver, updated bios, uninstalled and reinstalled driver, everything I have found in other posts and it still will not work. When I updated the bios, Touchpad now shows up in devices, but the driver is for PS/2 Compatible Mouse. Running Windows 10 Pro. Any help? Thanks in advance!

Preferred Solution: Latitude 12 slim keyboard (for 7275) touchpad doesn't work

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

While testing the Latitude 7275 with Slim keyboard noticed keyboard and touchpad wouldn't work if placed on a metal surface.
Moved off metal surface i.e. table and it works.

Answer:Latitude 7275 Slim Keyboard and metal surface

From the review Here- Both [Keyboards] use magnetic connections, rather than physical hooks, buttons or latches, making for an easy transformation between modes.

Hello!
We have during the last autumn bought 3 Dell Latitude 7275 2in1  which comes with the "Dell Latitude 12 Premier Keyboard"
On all of these we experience a very annoying issue.
When connected to the keyboard it behaves very unstable and frequently looses contact with the 7275 just by a light touch and does not work at all, the users have to be very picky in which angle they have the 7275 connected and use it for the keyboard to work at all.
We have spoken to Dell support last week and they say the are not aware of this at all.
We can´t believe this is "by design" and thus we wonder if anyone else have the same issues here ?
And if so have managed to solve it somehow and can share the solution.

It's simple, Wifi turned off - Bluetooth connects to speaker and plays audio flawlessly. Turn Wifi on and as soon as it's connected to the network, Bluetooth audio stops and will not reconnect at all. I have 3 Bluetooth speakers, all different brands and it's the same with all 3 of them. I have had 4 totally different Latitude 7275 units from different firms and all have been the same.
Tried
- Updating, deleting and restarting the Bluetooth driver and services.
- Re-pairing all speakers
- Connecting to different Wifi networks
Nothing has worked and I cannot find anyone with the same problem, despite having come across 4 with the issue... How can I fix this?

I already have the issue that when I put my E5570 to sleep and wake it up again that the keyboard and touchpad do not work. So I have disable the sleep options in the BIOS.
Now I run into different issues.Yesterday I booted the laptop and it hang on the DELL logo, After a while it stated that my EFI file would not be correct. Force reboot and it booted straight to Windows.
What's more annoying is the fact that the laptop boot, the DELL logo is shown and then the screens go's black, as if it's not connected. SO it looks like it hangs.BUT an external monitor through HDMI does work and show the windows logon. The keyboard and touchpad also do not work.External mouse and keyboard do work.
So pretty much I got a brick when I do not have external display/keyboard and mouse available.
When I reboot the laptop it works fine again.Am I the only one with this?Loads of issues with the laptop and wondering if I just have a faulty laptop...
Clean Windows 10 Pro install is done 5 times.Used the  DELL Command Update to install all drivers and patches.Issues keep existing...

Answer:Latitude E5570 - Black display, no resons to keyboard/touchpad - External display/keyboard/mouse do work

I have been spending a lot of hours in troubleshooting this week.
Diagnostics are 100% ok.
Reinstalled Windows 10 about 15 times.Installing drivers by hands, installing drives trhough the dell update management application. The issues keeps existing.
To sum the them up:- Cold boot (laptop is off) to Windows. Keyboard/Touchpad do not work. (Reboot and they work again)- Resume from sleep. Keyboard/Touchpad do not work. (Reboot and the work again)
After I got the laptop I installed 32Gb of RAM and an 512Gb Samsung 950Pro PCIE M.2 NVME drive. The drive should be support as Dell states on the product page and in the manual that PCIE with NVME is supported.
"Advanced features, like industry-leading M.2 SATA and M.2 PCIe/NVME solid state drives, provide data transfer speeds up to 4x faster over traditional hard drivers. "
In order to get the drive visible and running on PCIe I had to disable the sata controller in the BIOS.This way the drive is detected in Windows as an PCIe NVME capable drive.
Just to verify if the issues I went back to default with the delivered 256Gb M.2 sata drive and 8Gb RAM.To install Windows I had to turn the Sata controller back on.
Installed the drivers manually updated WIndows and tested. The issues do NOT occur.
Retested by installing the drivers using the Dell Update Application. The issues do NOT occur.
So I figured out that the SATA controller somehow is the guilty part for all the issues.I mean when enabled to ACHI or RAID the sleep and non... Read more

hi ! when i press a letter on the keyboard the touchpad stops working. i tried with palmcheck option but the problem remains. i have ELAN software and everything seems updated (according to windows update and lenovo softwares). in touchpad settings i found the option about the mouse block during digitation, but it doesn'twork. can someone help me?

Answer:z 50 75 pressing keyboard touchpad doesn't work

I have the same problem with a Y50-70 and ELAN Touchpad/driver too. It has been sold to me as a gaming Laptop and now one major functionality you need for gaming doesn't work - what a mess. I spend hours in the Internet reading hundreds of articles from people with the same issue.1. Solution: Disable the Palmcheck function but unfortunately the ELAN SW doesn' provide this option.2. Solution: Change the Touchpad sensibility (some say max, some min) - neither works with the ELAN driver.3. Solution: Go into the Registry (regedit) and change parameter (DisableWhenType_Enable and DisableWhenType_DelayTime_Move in HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Elantech\SmartPad\), to 0 with Regedit. Didn't work for me too. 4. Solution: Uninstall the ELAN driver qnd let Windows install a generic PS2 one during re-boot. This finally did it for me, however you are losing all the additional functionality of your Touchpad and can onlwy move the cursor plus right/left click. No zoom; no scroll, no multiple finger functionality anymore. So be it, I bought the Laptop for Gaming. I'm pretty disappointed about this but hope there will be better driver coming out soon.

My mom has a Acer 5102. The touchpad and keyboard don't work on the laptop. I tried plugging in a mouse to the USB and that didn't work either. All I want to do is back up my files to an external hard drive but I can't do it without a keyboard or the touchpad. I tried doing FN + F7, and FN + F6, and even FN + F7 + ALT. I heard those key combinations work, but it didn't in my case. Also, she said at first the OS wouldn't boot for a couple days, but now it boots but the keyboard and touchpad doesn't work. Does anyone know what the problem could be?wee

Answer:ACER Keyboard and touchpad doesn't work

Try http://www.laptoprepair101.com for a good desciption on how to disassemble a laptop.Be VERY careful when disassembling. They are fragile and the connections are short. The ribbon cable under the keyboard might be the problem although the USB connections are integrated on the motherboard and with your earlier problems might point to that as the cause.

Hello, The left button on my Synaptics Touchpad doesn't work when I'm pressing a key on the keyboard. Initially, I thought it was a PalmCheck problem, but that feature was already disabled. The right click works fine and so does the touchpad itself. The only problem is the left button. I tried reinstalling an updated driver, but that didn't fix the problem. I tried the generic Synaptics driver and both the HP Windows 8 and 8.1 versions. They all worked fine for all touchpad functions except for the left button which still doesn't work when I'm pressing a keyboard key. I tried using a wireless mouse and the left click worked fine so the problem is only with the touchpad.

Answer:Left touchpad button doesn't work when the keyboard is in us...

Same thing for me too, and I really want it fixed. I'm using an HP Pavillion Windows 8.1 Laptop, and using the same TouchPad as you. Kudos for you!

Hi

I assume that you checked if the tablet has been connected properly to the keyboard docking.

Did you try to disconnect and connect the docking again?
Note: there is a release latch on the left which you have to move and hold in order to remove the tablet.

Maybe there is some connection problem.

When I open up my computer and try to login, both the keyboard and touchpad no longer works.  The only thing I can do is touch the screen and hope the on-screen keyboard pops up.  but I can't use the actual physical keyboard or touchpad.  They seem disabled. I don't even see the mouse pointer arrow or icon on the login screen at all  when I try to move my hand around the touchpad now it takes me a couple tries to login abd only after I  login, the keyboard & touchpad work again Im using HP Spectre x360. I think this started happening after the last major auto update  (Also now the computer doesn't go to sleep when I close the lid,  and after a while the computer gave an alert message that the battery was low since it never went to sleep.  After this last update, the low battery alert message is now pink instead of blue )

Got a nasty surprise today - unlike the other major manufacturers, who offer one year free tech support, Lenovo does not. $179 for a contract or $89 to cover a single incident. Thanks, guys. :-/ Here's my problem. G780, bought last October. Upgraded from Win7 Home Premium to Win8 Pro.A few days ago, the built-in keyboard stopped working. It works in the BIOS, but when you boot into Windows, Windows doesn't recognize it. There is a PS/2 keyboard driver and a HID Keyboard Device that show up in the Win8 Device Manager. I'm assuming those are the drivers for the built-in keyboard. If I plug in a USB keyboard, it shows up in the Device Manager as an additional HID Keyboard Device. Through trial and error, I discovered that the keyboard still works fine when the Elan touchpad driver is not installed. The problem with THAT: I can't disable the touchpad unless the driver is installed, and if the touchpad isn't disabled, it'll screw me up because I accidentally brush my hand up against the touchpad while typing. I've also noticed that sometimes, the touchpad icon in the system tray shows up with a CAUTION icon overlaid on top of it (you know, the little yellow triangle with the exclamation point). I can't figure out why, and I can't figure out what changed on my computer that caused the keyboard to stop working properly. I've tried uninstalling the Elan touchpad driver, downloading the latest driver from the G780 support web page, and reinstalling it. No... Read more

Answer:G780 keyboard doesn't work, but ONLY when Elan Touchpad driver is installed.

hi stevesobol,

Welcome to the Lenovo Forums.

Are you also able to type your password on the login screen but after that the keyboard gets disabled? If this is the case, check this article as it's similar to the keyboard issue.

As for the Keyboard not working when the ELAN touchpad driver is not installed, this is surprising as I've never heard this issue happen before. Are you not able to disabled the touchpad via Fn+F6 even if the driver is not installed?

I was having responsiveness issues with the trackpad for a while, then, i open my laptop one day and it's completely unresponsive, as well has the backlit keyboard not working (the hotkey still pops up that it's "lighting up" the keyboard, but no actual lights) and the trackpoint being completely unresponsive too. I've tried:- Restarting computer- Using Lenovo's various "fixing" softwares- Looking for a keyboard firmware shortcut for enabling/disabling trackpad, (doesn't exist on this computer)- Re installing drivers (Ultranav driver refuses to install manually, "driver installation failed")- Booting on a non microsoft OS (Booted on a linux Mint installation and it still doesn't work)- Booting into BIOS and looking for "enable/disable trackpad option", That option does not exist for me.- Opening up computer and checking the physical connection, All plugged in fine. When i open the device manager in windows there is no entry for the mouse whatsoever. The touch screen and the pen both work fine. I think it all points towards a hardware issue, i can pick up another trackpad on ebay for pretty cheap, but obviously i'd like to make sure that it would actually solve the issues.  The major confusion for me is that why would faulty trackpad hardware stop the backlit keyboard from lighting up? How are the two linked? Any ideas appreciated, Thanks!

The laptop came with a USB-C 30W charger "brick". The manual doesn't indicate what kind of USB-C port is on the laptop. I'm guessing since it's only 30W, that it's not USB-C w/ Power Delivery (up to 100W). Is it possible to use other USB-C chargers that supply 30W?

HI,
I know that the stylus for the Dell Latitude 7275 is the PN556W (N1DNK), but I have a couple of questions:
1) Are there different versions of it (perhaps manufactured at different times). If so, how do I know that I am getting the most recent/best version? Relevant to this, I see an additional modifier on eBay "6D5GT" - what does that refer to?
2) How does the Huawei Mate Pen compare? Are all its buttons functional?
Thanks!

Everything was working great when I first got the latitude 12. But now whenever it goes into sleep mode it hoses the wifi. When I wake it the wifi says there are no networks to connect to. The only way to get it working again is to restart it. Is there any solution to this that doesn't  require a restart? The troubleshooter couldn't fix it and disabling wifi then enabling it again won't either.

I am trying to use a Bamboo Solo stylus with a Latitude 7275 in tablet mode without the slim keyboard attached, but it does not work evenly across the entire display.  If I draw looping circles on the screen, the line will be continuous and tracks the stylus until it reaches the middle right third of the screen where it skips sections of the line.  When I reach the upper right third, it drops the line completely.  I cannot tap on any menu options in the upper right or use the standard Windows close "X".  It all works fine with a fingertip, but I was hoping to use the stylus as a more natural drawing/writing tool.
The Solo has a soft carbon-fiber tip and apparently some internal magnets, but it otherwise a passive device.  It has no buttons or batteries.  I see Dell supports their Active Stylus product with this laptop, but I wanted something simpler.
I tried a different rubber-tip stylus and it seems better, but it also skips in some areas... more along the bottom.  It works intermittently in the upper right area where the Solo does nothing. The entire display still works fine with a fingertip.  Neither stylus works well, if at all when the slim keyboard is attached. I understand that may have something to do with the magnets used to attach the tablet portion.
Can anyone explain to me what's going on and why a portion of the screen is unresponsive to the stylus? Do I have a defective touchscreen or it just a design issue? ... Read more

We are testing the 7275 hybrid device, and we have noticed that the battery will drain significantly overnight while in "sleep" mode.  We have un-checked the box that would keep it connected to wireless while asleep but it still drains 50% or more of the battery overnight while in sleep mode.  These devices have Windows 10 with a custom image build.  Has anyone else worked with these devices and seen similar behavior?

Answer:Latitude 7275 battery drain while sleeping

I just bought this device for work and will be stuck with this for the next 3 years.  I noticed that when I got off work, I had this in sleep mode (5:30pm) with a 100% charged battery.  By the time I got home, it would be around 72% left.  It is almost as if the system never went to sleep.  Like you, I have also turned off the wifi while asleep.
I have a Windows 10 Enterprise and it is the first image that my team would be using for other systems moving forward.  Pretty vanilla installation.
In a nut shell, I am having the same issue as you.  Do you have it addressed?  Anyone else has an issue with this?

Dell Active pen PN556W includes the Latitude 7275 in its compatibility list. And It does work for limited selection and drawing functions, However, it does not show up under bluetooth devices and I can't get it to pair. The laptop is up to date with drivers and bios including the ActivePen_APP_Driver_WIN_A02. Seems strange that basic pen functions work, but it does not show up anywhere.  Not in device manager, devices and printers or bluetooth devices.   Device manager does show two unidentified devices, that windows can't find drivers for.  Those devices have meaningless hardware IDs, so I can't look them up.  I uninstalled them and the basic pen functions still work. Need a little help on this.

Hi everyone,
I recently acquired a Latitude 7275, everything was working fine, but when I updated to BIOS XPS_9250_Latitude_7275_1.1.29 released on the 9/5/17 it broke my TPM 2.0 implementation.
I had suspended Bitlocker before the update but on reboot, it kept asking me for the Bitlocker recovery key, I  then had to disable Bitlocker completely.
After that i could not enable it back again, it kept saying "internal error", I was using DellTpm2.0_Fw1.3.2.8_V1_64
I then noticed that the latest BIOS was removed from the support page.
I reset windows 10 to no avail. I then decided to downgrade the TPM, I read this page  http://en.community.dell.com/techcenter/enterprise-client/w/wiki/11850.how-to-change-tpm-modes-1-2-2-0 checked the Manufacturer ID and it is the same.
I updated the TPM to DellTpm1.2_Fw5.81.2.1_V3_64, and as soon I rebooted the system I was able to enable the 1.2 TPM and enable Bitlocker.
I then decided to suspend the Bitlocker and update back to TPM 2.0, but on reboot it sows and error: "Failure due to FW update policy"
I then downgrade to BIOS XPS_9250_Latitude_7275_1.1.27 and tried the TPM upgrade again, but still no luck.

Can someone shed some light on the issue please, I am at a loss.
Am I missing anything using TPM 1.2 or will it be incompatible with future BIOS versions?

Any help would be much appreciated!

Kind regards

Hey guys,
I got a Dell Latitude 7275 a few weeks ago but just cant figure out how to bring it out of sleep mode properly. When I put it to sleep and dont use it for a little while, I have to press the power button on the side a few times and it seems almost random when the tablet turns back on.Sometimes I press the power button 1-2 times and then it briefly vibrates and wakes up, sometimes up to 6 times before it reacts and the odd time it doesnt do anything until I hold the button for 15s and it reboots. Can anyone explain just how waking the device properly works? Thanks!

Answer:How to bring the Latitude 7275 out of Sleep mode?

Try a brief, single push of the power button and wait 30 seconds until it wakes. Don't press too long and don't repeat presses. Check and change the Power Options-- right click on Start button to get to the options fast.
Windows 10 has Hibernation and Hybrid Sleep that both require a brief push of the power button to wake. First try a key or mouse press and then if that doesn't wake the screen, use the power button.

Hey,
Every since I've gotten my laptop, I have been getting these 2 messages from Dell power manager. Answer:Dell Latitude 7275 Battery Issue

Call and have the battery replaced under warranty -- if that doesn't solve the problem, the mainboard is the issue (likewise covered by warranty).  If the system is  brand-new, you also have the option of asking for a replacement system rather than a warranty repair during the first 30 days from shipment.

Hi,
I'm trying to setup the Dell Latitude 7275 Tablet with Vpro. As a test. I been configuring it manually as I done it many times on other Dell desktops or laptops successfully.
However, with the Dell Latitude 7275 Tablet I'm not even been able to use the web browser to connect to it when I configure it the same way I done it in the past.
As far as I know the Vpro configuration I did for this Tablet seem to be the same as other Dell devices I done in the past, but perhaps for this tablet I'm maybe missing something.
I was wondering if you could point me in the right person or direction to get this Vpro tablet working. At least manually.
I tried Dell support. I was passed on to different people but they were not able to help. I looked online and there seem to be no information at all. Perhaps because this is a new device.
Thanks

Hi,
I'm having many issues with my E6530.  It seems to have a mind of its own.  Sometimes, the keyboard stops working and then other times it starts typing random letters.  The cursor will also click around randomly and windows will open. There's not rhyme or reason.  I've updated the BIOS and drivers, but the issues still occur and it seems to be more frequent now.  I scanned the laptop for viruses and malware and it came out clean.  I'm not sure if reinstalling Windows will fix these issues or if it's hardware based.  Could the motherboard need replacing?  Any help is appreciated.  Thank you.

As I have said in the title, My webcam front led light flashes randomly for no apparent reason. almost like it is taking quick snapshots of me or something. there is no software using the camera.
I have reimaged 10 to the device and I have disabled access to the cam from all software in the windows 10 settings. but I still randomly have the light flicker on for brief moments occasionally. I have noticed that it often happens when I am getting notifications. and more when I first sign into windows either from sleep or reboot. but I can not figure out what is activating the camera or camera light.
I can safely rule out malware since I re-imaged the device. (that didn't stop me from putting a tiny piece of tape over the lens though! lol)

Hey guys,We just upgraded our office of 50 people to Windows 10 from 7.  Pretty much the whole office it worked fine for, except my boss.  We can't get his microphone to work again and can't find the drivers on dell's website.  It's a Dell Latitude E5420.  I'm not sure if it's a Realtek internal speaker or what, but we've tried a few drivers on their site as well.  Any ideas would be great! Thanks!

DoctorDre225 Latitude E5420
Hello. Dell does not support Windows 8, 8.1, or 10 on the Latitude E5420 model and cautions that you might lose some functionality if you do run Win10.
DoctorDre225can't find the drivers on dell's website
There are two places to find the drivers:
1. On the E5420 support page. The page opens on "Diagnostics", so you have to click "Drivers and Downloads", then click on "look for it myself" if presented with that option, instead of using service tag or system analysis. Next, click the blue "Change OS"  button (see pic) to see the operating system options (XP, Vista, 7, 8, Unbuntu, Free DOS).

2. A simpler way is to go to Dell's ftp server. Follow the links to the E5420 htm page. On that page you can see all of the drivers that Dell makes available for the E5420 -- all versions for all operating systems.
DoctorDre225not sure if it's a Realtek internal speaker or what
The E5420 has IDT audio hardware on the motherboard. The IDT company went out of the consumer audio business before Windows 10 came out, so there will never be a Win10 IDT audio driver for the E5420.
DoctorDre225we've tried a few drivers on their site as well.  Any ideas would be great!
I don't know if the issue is with the internal mic or the external mic jack. If the mic jack, it won't work with just the Windows native driver, so you do have to have an IDT driver. An IDT driver might or might not get the intern... Read more

I went to device manager and saw yellow exclamation marks on Bluetooth peripheral device and here is the hardware id of errors:

What can I do?

I went on acme site and didn't find any driver available. Is there something on dell's site I could use? Or something else?

On my laptop Satellite L20 not working keyboard and touchpad, but keyboard work in BIOS, USB-ports also not working (USB mouse).

Can i get update file for BIOS(traditional updating from boot CD, not OS!)

Sorry for my bad English.

Answer:Satellite L20 keyboard & touchpad not working but keyboard work in BIOS

If the traditional BIOS update is not available on the download page the only way to get it is to contact nearest authorized service provider. They have all versions.

But this keyboard and mouse issue is really strange. can you use it if you start operating system in ?safe mode??

Recently I bought a headset, so I can chat with friends while I am playing games with them, but it doesn't work as I want it to. It has 2 3.5mm male jacks (one for headphones, one for microphone) while my laptop has only 1 female jack. No problem, I bought a microphone and headphone splitter. But my laptop cant recognize my headset as a headset. It only shows headphones, or microphone. I can't use them combined! So if I try to speak the sound comes from my internal microphone in my laptop but not from my headset, and the sound comes from my headphones. And exactly the other way around: if I can speak through my microphone, the sound doesn't come in my headphones but from the internal speakers in my laptop. How can I fix this? Thanks!
Greetings,
Jelle

Answer:Headset microphone doesn't work Dell Latitude 3340

The splitters have a poor track record with Dell laptops. My suggestion is to get a usb audio jack to use with the headset that has 2 plugs. These things are very inexpensive at Amazon and elsewhere.

You might be able to adjust that on the Listen tab of the mic properties. First find the mic on the Recording tab of the Sound properties, then open the mic's properties and select the Listen tab.

Hello. I have this odd problem in my Dell Latitude D520 core2duo where one of the memory slots isn't working anymore. Just yesterday the Laptop would not startup but lights on the front panel came on, so I suspected a memory issue. The D520 has a slot underneath the keyboard for memory, as well as underneath the laptop. When ever I put memory in the slot under the keyboard, it won't startup. I tried various memory known to work. I even took the memory from underneath the laptop and placed it under the keyboard because it worked underneath. But once I placed the memory in the slots under the keyboard, it would not startup. I would just get three green lights next to the power key. One stayed, the other 2 blinked; they all eventually stopped entirely. Once I removed the memory, it would start up. I tried cleaning the memory slot with an air can. I've never encountered this before. For now, I just run with 2 gig memory stick underneath the laptop. It works fine. I am assuming a motherboard issue. Any suggestion greatly appreciated.

Answer:Dell Latitude D520 memory slot doesn't work

Sure sounds like the socket is bad, or the memory controller. You may have to live with a single DIMM in the bottom slot.

For the last month or so, every time I log off my account, the keyboard does not register at the Windows Log In screen. This makes it so I have to restart the computer and then it works fine.
There are three accounts on the computer, the casing has been half removed for the last 3 months, a DVD burner and driver recently installed 3 months ago and I am using a wireless off brand USB keyboard and mouse.
OS: Windows Xp Home Edition 5.1.2600 Service Pack 3
As for the second part, the computer requires several restarts to boot up, sometimes up to twenty minutes of turning on and off to boot up. Only started doing this a week ago.

Answer:My Keyboard doesn't work, and the computer turns on but doesn't start.

It sounds like something is wrong with your Windows XP drivers. Something like that happened to me while building my computer, and when I boot up the keyboard did not work because my copy of windows XP was bad. You could try reinstalling windows XP, and It might work better, but I dont have a definite answer to your problem.

Hello all, After updating the BIOS to version A16 or A17 doesn't work memory card reader :(
On the aforementioned version of the BIOS, when you want to turn on the computer with a memory card inside the system do not get up! Of course, without a memory card system will get up normally but when you again put the memory card the system still can't see it.
The last working version of BIOS is A15 where you can use a memory card reader.
My OS: Windows 10 Pro (x64)

I have exactly the same problem. Last working version is A15.

Hi Team, When I am using my laptop while sitting on a couch, it seems to get warm really easily and then the touchpad seems to stop working. It operates very funny and tries to change the screen size. I have to reset the Synaptics pointing devices everytime it hangs. If I keep it on a stand or hard cover, then it seems to work better and it barely hangs. Would you know as to why that happens frequently as I travel a lot and can't find a support to put in underneath everytime. Thanks for your help. Regards Sidd

Note to Admin: I think this is the operating system itself, as I remember there have been updates inbetween (and after). If this is some sort of virus, I apologize and please move to appropriate thread.

On my HP PC with windows 8.1 I've always been able to just log in. The last 2 days though, the touchpad/keyboard won't react (so I can't insert my password) when I first start the computer. When I then command "restart" (with the mouse, which does work), I get the same loginscreen but this time I can use my touchpad/keyboard.

So this problem is manageble (just always restart after just havign started the computer ), but I would like to understand why it goes wrong at the initial start up. Any ideas?

My touchpad doesn't work since yesterday.
It's really weird because I checked it in my device manager and it says that everything is okay.
Now I've reinstalled my whole computer because I thought that it doesn't work because of the drivers.
It still doesn't work.

Can anyone help me?

I don't get why my touchpad doesn't work when I unplug or turn off my mouse. I found all the settings. I realize I may get an answer I don't want. Download drivers etc..

I can live with this problem (unless I suddenly don't have my other laptop), especially after spending the night searching for, downloading and installing drivers for my other laptop. I was surprised to find that the windows 7 professional (my home machine is windows 7 home) didn't provide me with network and other drivers. I wasn't seeing any wireless connections. Initially I was using an internet stick and the problem wasn't visible. I take that machine out with me. I had it home last night and that's when I found the problem. And trying to get that touchpad driver had me wondering about this one. I don't use my laptop keyboard on my home machine, preferring a natural contour full keyboard I plug in, so I never deal with the touchpad, otherwise I'd be hitting it all the time, which I used to do. I am a mouse guy. If I had to to take this machine out, the touchpad thing would drive me nuts. Any thoughts?

Answer:Touchpad doesn't work

Hi Aarby,

Some computers have keyboard shortcuts which could be a separate key on the keypad or a combination of the Fn + any other Function key depending on the system model for enabling or disabling the touchpad. Since you have not mentioned the system model of your computer, some steps you may try are:

1.Go to Control Panel > Mouse > Device Settings>Click Enable (if disabled).

2.Check under Mouse Properties in Control Panel>Hardware>Mouse. There may be a check-box for Disable Touchpad/Pointing Stick when external USB mouse is present. If this is checked and you connect an external mouse to your laptop, the touchpad may be disabled.

Additionally, we recommend you check the system manual or try some of the steps mentioned in the link below.

Well i have an Acer Aspire E5-511P, yeah i know its a cheap system. I had a Dell Inspiron1720 that lasted about ten years, and still have. Anyway on my Acer something happened after i bought, Acer doesn't do anyhting about it, and its a major problem they have. Either there was a windows update somewhere that stopped my Touchpad from working. Is there a way to find out what touchpad i have inside. I downloaded a driver someone put on Acer forums, but that doesn't seem to fix the problem. Any ideas, can i get another touchpad installed maybe something better. Or does someone have an idea on how to fix this. I am also using windows 8.1

I believe there is an option on the A30 to disable/enable the touchpad. I think it may be FN + 9 but I am not entirely certain (I don't have my A30 with me at the moment).

Hello everyone.

Recently, I did a clean install of Windows 7 Home Premium on my MSI GE600. At first, the touchpad behaved the way it should. But now, it is not even detected. I rebooted the laptop and it worked again. Most of the time it doesn?t work though.

I have installed the Elantech driver of the MSI site, so I?d like to know what you think the problem is and how to fix it.

Thank you so much in advance.

Answer:Touchpad often doesn't work

I have recently dealt with this same issue on an Asus laptop. The touchpad does not function correctly, but the issue is sporadic. A USB mouse works fine.

The first thing I needed to determine was if this was a hardware problem or a software problem (OS or Drivers).

So what I did was wait until the touchpad stopped working and then rebooted with a Linux Ubuntu USB stick connected. Booting into Ubuntu I found the touchpad still did not respond. This told me that the problem was hardware. The touchpad has to be replaced.

So that is what I would suggest. You need to know what kind of problem you are dealing with so you know in which direction to focus your efforts.

Hi, Probably the question is stupid, but I give a try. In Settings, Devices, Mouse and Touchpad do you have the setting "Leave touchpad on when a mouse is connected" off?If yes, try to disconnect all the USB devices from your PC and try to see if the touchpad is working. If not try to see if FN+F7 will help, but I don't really expect to help. Also, you could try to turn off the mentioned settings. Not the last, in device manager isn't your touchpad by mistake disabled or has a yellow exclamation mark?

This has been going on for ages. Upon a fresh boot, keyboard brightness dimming does not work until I put laptop to sleep. Then, the FN+up/down works fine. I can't remember if this has always been the case, but I know when I first got my laptop, Win7 pre-installed, the auto-dimmer was working. Now I am not sure it is (not that I mind, I don't want it on). Now, when I check Advanced Power Options, the "enable auto dimmer" isn't even listed.

I pretty much need to have quick brightness keyboard control due to my light sensitivity. Win+X is annoying to resort to.

Also, when the FN+up/down keys DO work to change the brightness, it says:
"Ambient Light Sensor Disabled". If that helps for anything. (Also also, I checked, and I have no "sensors" installed, so says my system.)
Also, my keyboard has a FN+Auto Dimmer key that is the 'left' key in the arrow set, but it doesn't appear to do anything. Or am I completely missing that THIS might be what I need to hit in order to enable keyboard dimming commands? (I haven't tried, but right now, after coming out of Sleep mode, the dimming commands are working and the "auto" option does nothing).
Anyway....

I have a HP 15-ay083TU laptop with Windows 10.The right click button on my touchpad has suddenly stopped working.I checked the synaptics touchpad settings and the two finger scrolling feature is enabled.

Answer:Right click doesn't work on touchpad

Welcome to the TenForums

First off create a restore point.

Within the settings for Synaptics, at least on mine, there is a restore all defaults, have you tried this. To isolate it is a Touchpad issue, and not something in Windows, do you have access to a mouse. Do right clicks work on a mouse?

If you go to device manager and find your device and look at driver, is the Roll Back driver greyed out. If so you can't roll back but if it is enabled you might want to try rolling back.

Hello! So yesterday morning my laptop completely shut down and I couldn't figure out what was happening. I had things to do, so I left it. When I came home, I opened it up and found out that the entire thing had been updated to Windows 10, and I don't know how since I never gave permission. Anyways, I figured there was nothing I could do so I got over it. But as the day went on, I discovered that my touchpad doesn't work whatsoever. I searched this problem and heard that I'm supposed to tick scrolling off in settings. Since then, two finger scrolling works, but NOTHING ELSE (even though all the boxes are ticked). This is very frustrating because I now can only use my laptop with a mouse, which means it's basically a computer for the time being. Please help! Thank you!

Cannot use touchpad and keypad at the same time. Shift keys are the only keys I can use at the same time as touchpad. Everytime I diable smartsense it turns itself back on when I go back into settings. This doesn't matter as it does not work anyway, it continues to disable touchpad when using keypad regardless of smartsense being on or off.   Also changed general settings so there is no delay and toucpad is always on, doesnt make a differnce either way.

Hi,

if your touchpad is not shown in device manager there are two possibilities. If there is shown an unknown device you have to reinstall the driver. If not there must be a hardware problem that has to be solved by service.

My problem is that ever since I upgraded to Windows 10 (and chose not to keep your pre-installed mess and unwanted antivirus software) I haven't been able to get my touchpad working.  EDIT:It seems to me that your search function for the site was bugged, the first time I used your tool to copy and paste my Serial Number the tool wouldn't find the model. As of now, I still don't get any search results when searching for "ES1-331" on the site (using Google Chrome). It's extremely frustrating that a simple search for the model doesn't show up any results, and that in some cases you are directed to a "buying" page, instead of a support/drivers page. I'm still confused as to how the site works, fix this please! I've already done the following:-Windows Update (Up to date)-Fn+F7 hotkey to enable/disable the touchpad Regardless, I've managed to install the touchpad drivers for Windows 10 before the download site went down. Installed for the correct OS (Windows 10 x64) rebooted, tried Fn+F7 combination, touchpad still didn't work. EDIT2: I finally managed to get it working, I still don't know exactly what I needed, but I installed a few of the drivers I found on the site for the model. Drivers found at www.acer.se/ac/sv/SE/content/drivers/-;YOURSERIALNUMBERHERE For those with the same issue, try installing both Touchpad drivers (Elantech and synaptics) as well as the IO, Chipset, TXE drivers. On this virtual way it is not easy to say for sure what the problem is but I cannot imagine that touchpad is defective after short period of time. Although, everything is possible.

Please check in device manager if touchpad is properly installed and listed there.
If there is everything OK, be sure touchpad is enabled properly. Check please FN+F5 key combination.

I just bought a Dell Latitude XT and installed windows vista Ultimate on it.
Every time i shutdown; put it on standby; hibernate; etc... for longer than 10mins, the touch pad doesn't work. I have to use the touchscreen to navigate around. I checked the device manager when the mouse doesn't respond, and it is not listed in there. After i reboot my computer, sometimes ones or more, my mouse works again. Could anyone help me?

Thank you very much!

I got this laptop in 2014 (It had windows 8 or 8.1 on it at the time ofc) Then I upgraded to windows 10 and for about a year it was fine but then it broke for unrelated reasons. Not hardware reasons though. And I forgot about it, then I decided to install Linux mint to it and it worked fine. Then I decide to go back to windows 10 and the touchpad didn't work. So I went to linux again. Repeat x5 and now I'm at #6 and it still doesn't work! And it works on linux perfectly!

Answer:Touchpad doesn't work on Windows 10

Also I have tried download the Synaptics drivers but it doesn't work

Hey fellas..

I have Toshiba Satellite L40-18W, bought from middle east and unfortunately its touch pad isn't working.. I checked and rechecked every possible place if anything is disabled or not properly configured but found nothing.

As there were quite a few errors in the OS I formatted my hard disk and installed WXP Prof, installed all the drivers but the touch pad still ain't working. I am very confused as before and after formatting the pointer moves a little when I use the touch pad at the beginning of start up???

Please help..

Answer:Satellite L40-18W - Touchpad doesn't work

The best check is to install operating system with original Toshiba recovery image and test it with ?factory settings?. In this case touchpad should work properly. If not contact the service and let them check your notebook.

Sorry but I don?t see other solution for you.

Hi,

I have a user with a Tecra M2 whose keyboard is no longer functioning properly, 2 or 3 keys work (Enter, space, caps lock), the rest of them when pressed cause a very quiet "beep" noise to come from the laptop.

I assumed this keyboard was faulty - I attached a usb keyboard to the laptop, but this has exactly the same symptoms, they keys dont work and when pressed the beep noise comes from the laptop, no characters appear on screen.

The laptop boots to the Windows XP login screen fine.

Any ideas what has caused this, and what the solution would be?

Thanks

Answer:M2 Keyboard problem - attaching external keyboard doesn't work either

Hello,

Sounds to me like the keyboard controller on the motherboard has gone bad. Since it causes the defect on an external keyboard then your motherboard is bad. If it was only the keyboard then an external one would work fine. But all keyboard types connected to a portable are routed first through the Keyboard controller integrated on the motherboard, then the characters are displayed. When this goes bad no keyboard will work, not even an external one. And the only fix to this is replacing the motherboard. Hope this helps.

keithrichjr23,

Sorry to hear that you are experiencing issues with a fresh install of the operating system. Which unit are you referring to so we can try and narrow this down a bit?

Also, did you reinstall using the internal media or recovery software you made or purchased from Acer, or did you install a non-OEM copy?

The cursor doesn't even display on screen unless I connect a mouse. It was working fine then suddenly the problem started. I tried FN + F6 but no point I tried installing this driver http://support.lenovo.com/us/en/downloads/ds037924But that didn't solve the problem I entered device manager >> view by connection type, and I found "Lenovo Pointing Device" with a yellow triangle on it. I uninstalled it and it disappeared forever............. But the problem is still there. it's as if the entire touchpad cable isn't even connected to the motherboard.................

Answer:Lenovo Y510P touchpad doesn't work at all

hi cocopops12,

From your findings, it does look like the touchpad is faulty. To verify, can you please consider doing the following:
1. Shutdown the machine and press the OneKey Recovery (OKR) button. On the Novo Menu, select System Recovery
   - Link to picture

2. On the System Recovery menu, try to use the Touchpad and see if it moves.

If the Touchpad still doesn't move even in the System Recovery screen then it's likely the the Touchpad is showing signs of failure. In this case, I recommend you contact lenovo and report your findings as you may need to send the unit for service to replace the Touchpad.

Hello guys. I have an Acer Aspire E1-531 and the touchpad stop working. It works fine 2 days ago. Now I had to fix the DC power cable. Evertying works fine, except the touchpad.    I googled the problem and I found that the bios should have an option Touchpad with choices Basic, Andvanced, but I can't find that option in my bios (bios version 2.21). How should I procced?   Thanks for your help. P.S.: Do you think it doesn't work because I pulled out the motherboard battery and I put it back or beucase I'm using Legacy Boot Mode?

Answer:Acer Aspire E1-531 Touchpad doesn't work

It's quite possible the touchpad is not working since you opened the system to reseat the motherboard battery. It could be the BIOS on this product did not include the flag for the touchpad. Unfortunately we cannot provide repair information but to rule out a software problem we would suggest you restore the system back to factory configurations via eRecovery utility. If at that point the touchpad still doesn't work, we would recommend repair.

I updated my computer about 1/2 weeks ago and the 2 touch scroll feature doesn't work. I went to advanced touchpad settings to see if I could fix it there but the results were that it is on. I went to check if maybe I did it wrong and sure enough it still
didn't work at all. Can you please either give me a step by step guide on fixing this or a link to a bit of software that fixes this?
And yes the touchpad is up to date, the system won't even let me click it.

Dear SirWelcome to Lenovo Community Would you please try to go back to the previous windows version, if it works so there is no compatibilty between the driver & windows 10 & you must wait any new update for this driver, if its still not working so you should go to the service center maybe you have a hardware issue. Best Of Luck

Hi, I just bought a new Lenovo U31-70 with Windows 10 already installed on it. There is a problem with the double tap feature, it doesn't work. The feature is enable in the option. This model of Lenovo has Alps touchpad driver and I'm not able to find on regedit where to enable the double tap, this workaround instead works if you have Synaptics drivers. Who can help me?

would be great if the right click on my synaptic touchpad worked. Was fine until I moved from win7 to win 10.

Answer:right click on my synaptic touchpad doesn't work

If the touchpad works (not defective), and only started the behavior since moving to 10, then I would guess it is a problem with the touchpad driver.

It could be due to the wrong driver being installed, a corrupted driver installation, or a driver conflict.
Since the generic Windows 10 touchpad driver seems to work well with Synaptics hardware for most folks, we can start with a bad driver install.

The first thing to try is to go into Device Manager and uninstall the touchpad. If asked to remove the driver also, do so. Then restart the laptop and the touchpad will be reinstalled with the same driver. Test.

Otherwise, go to the laptop manufacturer's website and find the most recent driver offered there for your touchpad. Try and install that driver and test.
