Headphones issue on laptop - Audio from only one earpiece?

Question: Headphones issue on laptop - Audio from only one earpiece?

So I was listening to music today and suddenly I could hear only with one ear.

Weird thing is that no matter what I did, I still couldn't fix it. Tried with another headphones pair, nothing.

I used my "broken" pair on my Xperia Z3 Compact phone and everything works fine.

I'm on the Insider Preview Build 6281 (fast ring). I'm using a Lenovo Laptop Z50-70 and I'm assuming I'm using the latest Conexant HD drivers are they get updated on every insider preview build.

Has anyone had similar issues?

When I'm using just the speakers they work in stereo.

EDIT: Apparently the issue persists when booting Ubuntu as well so it's hardware related.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I have a Vista Home premium 64bit operating system. I tried to use my Plantronics Audio 626 DSP headphones. I can see it under drivers but there's a yellow sign there. It says my driver for device is corrupt, etc.
However, I also have an xp operating system on another computer. No problem what so ever to use the headphones. I have searched everywhere to find a solution but have come up with nothing. I had windows do a search and it says that driver is up to date.

It seems no matter what headset I try to use - it won't recognize any of them. I had a Microsoft one before and same problem.
Does anyone have any suggestions?? Maybe there is a problem with my computer? I sent for repairs in June and ever since then no headphones will work. I also had my computer formatted went sent for repairs. Could they have done something when fixing other problems???

Answer:audio headphones driver issue

Update the driver at the Company website.

How to Find Drivers
search Google for the name of the driver
- compare the Google results with what's installed on your system to figure out which device/program it belongs to
- visit the web site of the manufacturer of the hardware/program to get the latest drivers (DON'T use Windows Update or the Update driver function of Device Manager).
- if there are difficulties in locating them, post back with questions and someone - will help you search Google for the name of the driver
- compare the Google results with what's installed on your system to figure out which device/program it belongs to
- - if there are difficulties in locating them, post back with questions and someone will try and help you locate the appropriate program.
- The most common drivers are listed on this page: http://www.carrona.org/dvrref.html
- - Driver manufacturer links are on this page: http://www.carrona.org/drvrdown.html

This issue popped up I'd assume in the past few days, but I only noticed yesterday for the first time. I use a Turtle Beach Ear Force X12 (don't know if that's of any importance, but I figured I'd type in case it does) headset. I noticed, when playing a game, my mic was not working. I later went into Control Panel and into Sound to see what the problem was. Oddly enough, there was nothing listed in Playback or Recording. I still received (and can still receive) sound from the headset. When in game, I'm assuming the only reason it doesn't work is because the Steam (the game hosting client) client doesn't have any headset to detect, as windows does not. I've tested a different headset (of the exact same model) on my computer, exact same issue. I tested my headset on a different computer (again, of the exact same model; my dad and I have similar hardware, an XPS 8700). So the issue is definitely on my computer, and not with the headset.

Again, as I've stated: The headphones work fine, audio goes right through them. Yet it isn't being detected in the Sound tab of control panel. I'd assume the microphone works fine (Outside of Steam, where I mainly use it), though I'm not sure where I'd test this. Any ideas on what I need to do would be greatly appreciated. I'm new to this forum, so sorry if I didn't post any necessary information.

I have a problem with my laptop and my headphones, I think it's a software problem. Well, when I plug my headphones into the front jack of the PC, the sound is very clear and also with alot of bass but when I connect the headphones to the laptop in the only jack (the one on the side), the sound keeps the same quality but the bass effect dissapears. Firstly I thought that I have to switch from "Speakers" to "Headphones" in the laptop's audio control panel (I'm using Windows 7) but I couln't found/select the "Headphones" options. The driver used on the laptop seems to be different than the one used for the PC. Do you have any idea of what's happening, something more clear than "check the settings on PC to match the one on laptop", etc?

Answer:PC vs. Laptop - Different audio in headphones

You should be able to adjust your bass and treble under volume mixer, then select which output device.

Hi all,

If this is in the wrong forum, please move, but I figured it might be Windows 10 issue.

I've bought a new laptop with Windows 10 (first time on this OS; last one was running Win 8), and am having an audio issue. Speakers work perfectly fine, but as soon as I plug my headphones in, audio doesn't come through them. If I check the Playback Devices, the green bars on the speakers are going up and down, so audio is there, but it's not coming through the headphones.

I've tried messing around with all sorts of things. Updating drivers, uninstalling and reinstalling audio drivers - just about every option I can find in the audio panels - but nothing.

The only solution I have is if I restart my laptop with the headphones plugged in. Upon reboot, the audio will work through them. But as soon as I unplug and replug, the sound is gone again. I've also tried with a different pair of headphones and had the same results.

Never had an issue like this before, and I'm at a loss as to where to look next, with nothing on Google helping me.

Thanks for any help.

I am having a problem with my new laptop.  This laptop has a dual microphone/headphone jack, but when I plug in headphones, the computer doesn't recognize them. I hear sounds from the headset, but microphone doesn't work. I have checked the playback devices and only "speakers" are listed. Headphones are not listed there or in recording devices. I have tried troubleshooting this with Windows. What to do?

Answer:my laptop screen got cracked by my earpiece and the ink pour...

A laptop screen can be replaced but it will not be covered by the Standard Repair Warranty since it's an accidental damage. Moreover if the computer is quite old more than 4-5 years then i guess even HP will not be able to repair it even if you pay for it, since it will be considered an obsolete system. Then the only option would be to get it fixed at a local computer store. LCD screens can be ordered online from 3rd party websites.

On my playback section it says "no audio devices are installed" and i can't change the volume or even get access to the little bar you use to change it. If it helps my computer was recently fixed up and i was thinking that they may have forgotten to reconnect the speaker but that wouldn't explain why headphones don't play any audio either.

Answer:My dell inspiron 7559 laptop will not play any audio through headphones or speakers

Check for  any settings in he Bios.  You might be able to turn audio and microphone on or off there.
If the audio is not listed in Device Manager, in some form, the boot may not be picking it up.  The Realtek audio or at least High Definition audio device should show up.  If you have a device which shows as unknown, that might be it but missing a driver.

The speakers on the laptop itself work, but when I plug in any pair of headphones or earphones (I've tried 5 known good pairs) and it is the same problem every time. The right ear piece works and the left does not. I have uninstalled and reinstalled the driver to no avail. I believe it is a hardware problem and it has a warranty until May 30, 2015, but I don't have the time or money to send it off to lenovo to fix (Expensive to send from military base). Is there any easy solution like an usb audio jack or something I can use to be able to use headphones?

I know it's possible that the speaker itself is just blown, but is there any way that it could be a software/driver issue? Supposedly this laptop uses AC97 drivers from Realtek. Hi everyone, I recently bought a Lenovo Twist, the 12.5 inch version with Windows 8. Hey there jgreisman,

I found another thread with an issue similar to your own. Before you head that direction, lets make sure you have updated your BIOS, and Audio Drivers. If you are still encountering the issue post these updates, I believe it would be prudent to contact the service center, 1-800-426-7378, as it may be a hardware issue requiring replacement. When you call in have your Machine Type, Model Number, and Serial Number as they will need it.

To navigate the Windows 8 Store, click the Store tile on the Start screen and then press Windows logo key+ Q, or touch swipe from the right edge to open charms, then use the Search charm to search for apps.

Hope this helps, Thank you jgreisman.

This might sound like I am a complete moron, but its an issue that is very tiring.

Last night my computers sound was working fine, came online this morning to find the headphones wont be recognized. Only time this crap elitebook decides the headphones are "ready" (for use I guess) is when they are either plugged into a jack that
has absolutely nothing to do with the performance of the sound, or if the headphones aren't plugged in at all.

Now I am sure you're all prolly thinking "if it works in one jack but not the other, then its simple as keep in it the jack that works moron" its not this simple I assure you. As I stated before, the jack that seems to recognize the headphones
actually being plugged in is worthless since ever since I bought this POS laptop or notebook that jack has done nothing for any sound device, internal or external, whatsoever. I am actually dumbfounded as to why they even installed it in the first place.

Now I have done virus checks, found nothing, I have rebooted the comp to an earlier time, it fails to fix this and even formatted the comp using the safe mode options but nothing seems to get this crap windows 7 to allow elitebook to recognize the headphones
when actually plugged into the port they are meant for.

And yea i know, why don't i use the on board speakers? well its a simple fact of I live with roommates, and so cannot play the sound openly with them here. So I am sorta irritated this comp wont recognize t... Read more

Help!

I got a new HP Pavillion laptop which has a strange audio issue! It works fine while connected to a power source but when it is not connected to the mains and only working off the battery the audio does not work properly. The only way I can describe the problem is, when playing music it sounds like a very slow record that keeps jumping and getting stuck... it is very strange!

Any ideas??

Thanks,

TC

Answer:Audio Issue on Laptop

Do other things work OK? Chances are pretty good that your CPU goes into power-saving mode when disconnected from power and runs at a slower speed. Check the CPU speeds both ways. (PCWizard). You will have some measure of control in the advanced section of the Power Options in Control Panel, though that will allow settings that are not possible for your CPU, too, so you may need to experiment or look up what speeds it is capable of if you want to be precise in the settings.

A laptop makes a very poor boom-box. Maybe you should consider playing music with something else.

Hi!

I'm not entirely sure if this is the right forum for this since I have no idea if this is a hardware or software related problem but bear with me!

I purchased Toshiba Satellite C50D-A-133 yesterday, and I've spent most of today trying to set it up. First of all, it came with Windows 8.1. which is absolutely awful. It is a nightmare to use and there are several weird bugs such as shortcuts added to the toolbar not working and the system requiring a password even though I specifically changed it in the settings in a way that password should not be required when logging in on the computer.

However the real problem is that, for some reason, all sounds from whatever source (YouTube, Spotify, Ableton) are weirdly "high-passed", in the sense that no low or mid frequencies are audible. I cannot understand what the problem is and I'm starting to lose it since I've tried to fix it all day. I installed the latest Realtek driver which made no difference. I tried to Google the problem but didn't find any similar results.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Ok so I make YouTube videos and so recording voice is a big deal. I went out and bought a new laptop and Im having problems.

I cant record audio? In sound in the control panel and under recording devices (where it shows the levels of your mic) I have to hit my laptop hard to get it to move up 2/3 bars out of the 10. When I just talk the bars struggle to go up 1 bar!

Its a Sony Vaio Model Number: VPCEH1L0E with Windows 7 and it has the conexant hd audio installed if that helps.

Ive googled this problem and it appears a few have had the same issue but I cant find a solution or a solution that works for me.

All drivers appear updated as they can be.

Does anyone have any help for me?

I don't know if this is hardware or software related so my apologies if I'm in the wrong forum. It IS multimedia related...

I have a Dell Latitude D520 laptop. It uses a SigmaTel audio card (?) for playback and recording. I am trying to create ring tones using a free software program called Audacity. I am able to play a cd and record the portion of the audio I want for my ring tone. I then export the clip from Audacity (using lame 3.97) at a bit rate of 64. This seems to work best on my phone.

The problem is that at times there are intermittent clicks in what I record. This is not a huge issue since the audio quality is not great to begin with. But I was wondering if anyone knows why this happens. It seems to be happening during the recording process.

Also, the clicks are present if I record my voice alone.

I think it must be either the laptop stutters as it is trying to multitask, or the driver is not the best. I don't think it is a ground issue as I've tried it on battery only as well as plugged in.

Not a big deal but just curious if anyone out there has had similar problems or suggestions.

Thanks,
sk21

Answer:Laptop audio recording issue

Its not the windows sound of clicks as processes are started and stopped is it? If it were that you could try turning off all system sounds (Control panel>>Sounds and Audio Devices>>Sounds tab and set sound scheme to no sounds and apply. If that's not it its probably some sort of interference or program quirk that will be hard to get rid of "in-system." If you use a USB adapter or play it in from an external source like line in or mic in you may get a cleaner recording but if you're already using CD audio in that should be an isolated channel as well. Try to avoid recording sterio or mono mix since that tends to pick up on a lot more system sounds.

Hi, please forgive me if I don't explain much very well, I'm not a very tech savvy person but this problem has driven me mad. I have tried to search around for help but I can't get the right answers, it's always for a different model of ASUS or some different sound device for Windows 7 - I just don't know how to solve this issue.
About a month or so ago, my laptop started producing these very annoying, screeching sounds in one side of my headphones. I thought nothing of it but then later, when I would play a song or a video, whether it was internet based or from my computer, I would hear crackling/popping sounds from my headphones while it played, increasing in intensity as I put the volume up. Even if the volume was done, the popping would be very loud and wouldn't go away unless I muted the speakers. The problem is NOT my headphones because I tried listening with different sets and all had the same problem.

It's not just the jack either I think because when I take the headphones out, the problem persists and the audio is laggy and distorted. Sometimes, the audio will lag so badly I can't make it out and pop so much and sometime it even just goes berserk, sounds like a bad television hum but much louder and like an annoying buzz until it goes back to popping and crackling.

The nasty problem occurs with both speakers and headphones and it's just very annoying. I can't listen to music without hearing this annoying popping, crackling, screeching, buzz noises. And it's not... Read more

Answer:No CD audio through headphones?

Did you plug in the wire from the back of the drive to your mobo/sound card?
There is a spot on the back of your CD drive where one end goes and there should be a spot on your mobo (or sound card if you have one) where you plug it in.

Look at the last 3 pics on this page.
http://biorobots.cwru.edu/server/how...mp/mountdrive/
The connector on the CD drive is the one directly to the left of the jumpers in the pic. The one on your mobo/sound card looks the same as the black one in the middle of the 3rd to last pic.

Hi, I'd like to start by noting that prior to Tuesday I have had no problems like this. Recently I have added no software except for Lightworks (Video editor) and a Firefox add-on. Running Windows 7

Typically I only use headphones for listening to audio as opposed to the default laptop speakers. As of a few days ago I disabled the "allow applications to take exclusive control over this device" option on my primary Laptop speakers. Nothing changed until later that night, when I received a Skype call. Not only did the ring come through the speakers, but the audio did as well. I went into my skype options to force it through the headphones, doing the same on a few other programs before re-enabling the "exclusive" function on the primary speakers. Audio coming through Firefox and System sounds were still directed through the laptop speakers. Now outside of Skype calls the audio runs through my headphones as directed, but during the call: every application that is not specifically directed to direct their sound through the headphones will issue it through the speaker.

I try opening my IDT audio control panel and try setting my headphones as the default device. For some reason the program will not allow me and it only flashes as the default device for a moment. I've tried setting it as the Default Audio Device in Sound Options but it also refuses to dethrone the speakers. The only option I've had that works is disabling the speakers but this, in tu... Answer:No audio from headphones

The first thing I see is you have "High Definition Audio Device" and not the correct sound driver. The High Definition Audio Device is the generic, basic function, Driver installed by Windows. First step is to install the correct sound driver.

You didn't list your system Specs so I can say what is the correct sound driver or link you to it.

Hello, any help appreciated. About a week ago the sound on my X1 Carbon 4th Gen (Type 20FB, 20FC) Laptop (ThinkPad) changed. The backing track seems louder and main vocals seem a bit lost in the mix. 2) Watching sport on the laptop now, the crowd often is louder than the commentary. Or a movie, the main dialogue is harder to hear against background noise. I changed no settings and cannot see/find any equalisers/settings that can or will alter it.  If I use headphones, everything sounds as normal. It's just using external speaker sound. Any ideas? It sounds really bad. Thanks in advance.

ok i have windows 7 64 bit, before i updated my sound card my headphones would crackle with music, movies, any sound, now they don't crackle but the most annoying thing is when i unplug my headphones i have to click on the via hd sound deck icon at the bottom and click make speakers default, if i plug in headphones i have to do the same for the headphones in order for sound to work through which ever device i want. Imagebin - A place to slap up your images. how do i fix this where it works normally like its supposed too?

Answer:I need help with my audio, headphones and speakers.

Where did you get the driver update? From ASUS for your specific PC model? or from some other source? If it wasn't from ASUS, that may be the problem. Non-Vendor specific drivers may or may not work properly.

If it was from ASUS, there may be a Windows/sound driver corruption. First thing to try is go to the Device Manager. There should only be the entry for the VIA sound and possibly an HDMI audio (if you have that). If there is any other entry, such as HD Audio Codec, RIGHT click on that entry and then LEFT click Uninstall. Then restart the PC and see if that fixes it. If not, go back to the Device Manager, RIGHT click on the entry for the VIA sound and then LEFT click Uninstall. DO NOT check the box to also uninstall the drivers. Restart the PC and when Windows starts it will detect and reinstall the VIA sound. Check to see if it is now working OK.

Hey All. I'm running Vista Ultimate and I recently dicarded my dell speakers that came with my xps 400 b/c only the back ones worked and those cables were too long to use efficently (I don't need help on how to arrange my speakers, thats OK). The real problem is that my Sony MDR-E828 headphones won't work with the computer/the computer dosn't recognize them (so essentially I have no sound, other than the beeps that come out of the PC itself). Before I uninstalled the other speakers (after I had disconected them), the headphones only worked for the sound config (wher the CPU makes sound come out of the different speakers to identify them). Now, I can't get to any mixer or any thing else (sound test, ect.) b/c no speakers are installed, and when I plug the headphones in, all I get is static. I went to the Sony Tech support and there are no downloads for the headphones. I'm completely lost and soundless. Any suggestions on how to get the headphones working?

Answer:Audio through Headphones W/O speakers

Strange!

Your sound should card (even if onboard type) should still work whether you have speakers attached or not and so should your headphones.

You don;t mention what sort of sound card you have.

So, make sure that if you have a sound card that your onboard sound card is turned off from the BIOS and the correct driver is installed.

Your headphones should also work with generic drivers if they are the fancy kind but normally, like with ordinary headphones Vista should detect headphones have been connected.

To me it sounds like your sound device is not configured correctly

Situation:
A blue screen occurred seemingly randomly with error message of DPC_WATCHDOG_VIOLATION
Upon the computer restarting, audio would no longer be heard through headphones.  The headphones are recognised, the dell audio dialog comes up , as well as the "you have plugged something into the headphone jack ". Sound still plays excellently through speakers.
I did attempt to use different headphones,
update drivers, check for viruses, run cccleaner and download the windows fixit for audio which interestingly enough cannot launch - citing error 0x80007057.

Answer:Dell XPS 15 - no audio from headphones

Hi Lpcp,Take a look at this thread, while it doesn't directly cover the audio issue it does have suggested fixes for DPC error, and the 2nd to last post mentioning updates/drivers through Windows/Dell software might fix both issues. If after getting the rest of this updated, and even running the BIOS updates, I would then recommend trying to manually remove the audio drivers, and restarting to see if anything changes. I will out until Tuesday but will try to check back. Best regards,Brad

Hey guys, so last night I was playing some music when all of a sudden my headphones started playing only on the right side. At first I thought it was my headphones problems, but then I tested it on my desktop and it worked perfectly. I have Plantronics C320-M USB headphones. I also tried the audio jack with some cheapy Sony headphones and it did the same thing.  I had gotten this laptop about 2 weeks ago also.  Also I am a noob when it comes to laptops, so I might need some dumbed down versions of what you are saying.

Answer:G50-45 Audio on one side of headphones.

If you are running Windows 10 you should see a volume icon in the system tray (opposite corner from the "start button")  and if you right click on it you can open the "playback devices" option to make sure your headphones are selected as default.

If your headphones are not listed as a playback item, it may be the drivers have been corrupted or need to be reloaded.  You can restart windows to accomplish this if neccessary.  If ths does not work let us know..

Good luck.

I have a Toshiba Satellite laptop using Windows 10. Conexant SmartAudio HD is working with my laptop speakers but not my headphones.

I have tried, in order:

-Right-click sound icon -> troubleshoot sound problems

-Right-click sound icon -> Playback devices -> ?? (no headphones showing)

-Device Manager -> Sound, video and game controllers -> right-click Conexant SmartAudio HD -> Properties -> Drivers -> Update drivers -> Restart

[note: there are also 'Intel(R) Display Audio' and 'NVIDIA Virtual Audio Device (Wave Extensible) (WDM)' icons under Sound, video and game controllers, but I'm assuming Conexant is the one I need to be concerned with]

-Uninstalling Conexant from Device Manager, restarting, and Googling latest drivers for my device (which I got from here: Download Toshiba Conexant SmartAudio HD Driver 8.66.6.52 for Windows 7, Windows 7 64 bit, Windows 8 64 bit, Windows 8.1 64 bit, Windows 10, Windows 10 64 bit), download and installing those.

I've run out of ideas, any help is appreciated. Sound still works fine without headphones, but isn't working with them, and the headphones are still not showing up in the Playback devices.

Answer:Conexant Audio w/Headphones

You don't say which model yours is. I have a Toshiba L750 which also has a Conexant chip. The problem with Toshiba and Conexant is that the chip came in so many flavours, each designed for the model it was used in. As a consequence finding the right driver (also model-specific) is near impossible. Add to that the fact that for older Toshiba models not supported for Windows 10 the official Toshiba drivers haven't been updated beyond Win8 and you are on a loosing streak. I wouldn't trust drivers from a third party like Softpedia because there's no way to tell if they are the specific ones designed for your model.

When mine took the free upgrade to Windows 10 a Microsoft-supplied Conexant SmartAudio HD driver was installed. At some point the automatic Windows update replaced that with the generic Microsoft High Definition Audio Device. That seems to work just fine on both my speakers and headphones. It may well work for you too.

Try uninstalling the speakers and headphones in Device Manager then scan for hardware changes. See what driver Microsoft thinks is the correct on for your machine.

Hello,
I recently found that my headphones had stopped working without reason. They will not work, but my speakers will. I have read over tens of questions similar to this, but none of the solutions have worked for me. Here are the things I have observed and tried:
-My headphones work with other devices, just not my computer.
-My computer detects when my headphones are plugged in and my headphones ARE set to the default device under playback.
-My Audio drivers are up to date.
-My speakers work fine. (but only become in use when I unplug my headphones)
If you know some things I could try, that would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Dear Friends,

I know this request is a bit unusual, but please bear with me.

I'm trying to get some advanced information or suggestions in order to Troubleshoot this issue with my brothers HP Pavilion g7-1150us Notebook PC. Which had a Windows 10 upgrade sometime ago so I believe its unrelated to the Audio issue of No sound with the speakers, but there is sound into the headphones.
It could be something as simple as setting the speakers to default. Or perhaps the Audio drivers, Chipset or BIOS need to be updated or reinstalled?

Hello all!

I've just upgraded to Windows 10, and despite all the cool and fun stuff I got with the upgrade, I am quite disappointed that I cannot use my headphones on the notebook. The speakers function properly, but my headphones are producing an awkward sound. I will try to describe what I hear, based on the audio coming from "Pull me Under" - Dream Theater - - YouTube :
- Audio is distorted
- There is that "low-quality mp3" kind of effect
- I can hear noise instead of high-frequency sounds (like cymbals, for example)
- The singer's voice is distant, quieter than expected, and like it was singing from behind a shower, with a lot of echo
- Seems there is no stereo, or just a very narrow stereo field. I used the windows test beeps from sound devices and Stereo and Bass Test (HD) - YouTube to try that out and both seem to lack a good stereo field. One can barely notice a difference between left and right.

My notebook has Via HD Audio, and I have tried uninstalling and installing the drivers several times! Also, that tip of turning off enhancements doesn't mean a thing to this issue. It will keep regardless of effects.

I am still investigating, but this issue seems to happen in every sound source, be it Chrome, Groove, windows' own sounds and my games too. As already stated, the speakers do not produce this issue. Also, I am curious as why I have a separate output for headphone and speakers. I always need to change between them when I unplug/plug my head... Read more

Hi, Try the following. Depending on whether you've installed the anniversary update of Windows 10 or not, download the relevant Realtek HD Audio installer on the link below and save it to your Downloads folder. Windows 10 Windows 10 Anniversary Update When done, hold down the Windows key and press R Into the Run window, type devmgmt.msc and hit enter. In Device Manager, expand Sound, Video and Game Controllers.  Right click the Realtek device and select Uninstall - you should also get a prompt to remove the current driver, tick the box to allow this and then proceed with the uninstall. When complete, download and reinstall the relevant Chipset driver on the following link. Windows 10 Windows 10 Anniversary Update When the Chipset reinstallation has completed, shutdown the notebook. Unplug the AC Adapter and then remove the battery.  Hold down the Power button for 30 seconds.  Re-insert the battery and plug in the AC Adapter. Tap away at the esc key as you start the notebook to launch the Start-up Menu and then select f10 to enter the bios menu.  Press f9 to load the defaults ( this is sometimes f5, but the menu at the bottom will show the correct key ), use the arrow keys to select 'Yes' and hit enter.  Press f10 to save the setting and again use the arrow keys to select 'Yes' and hit enter. When windows has reloaded, open your Downloads folder, right click on the Realtek insta... Hi all,

I've been a long-time visitor of these forums when looking for solutions, but this time around I have a problem that is truly perplexing.

So I previously had Windows Vista Home Premium 32-bit installed on my HP dv5t, and everything was fine, the way it came from the manufacturer (except the crappy video drivers, but that's a different story).

I recently performed a format + clean install of Windows 7 Professional 64-bit, and installed all the appropriate drivers, with the exception of a modded suite of video drivers. With the exception of my sound, things are moving along swimmingly.

So here's my issue:
In certain contexts, Windows fails to recognize that my headphones are plugged in. I have my default playback device set to Speakers & Dual Headphones; desired behavior is that sound plays through speakers until headphones are plugged in to the front jack. The problem that I'm encountering is that when running Starcraft 2 or Left 4 Dead 2, Windows mysteriously plays sound through my speakers rather than my headphones, even though they are plugged in. Looking at the IDT control panel, it appears to recognize that my headphones are still plugged in, but nonetheless switches output to speakers. Even more bizarre is the fact that my sound behaves properly in Dead Space 2, as well as all other applications as far as I can tell.

I've attempted several different driver changes to resolve the issue, but they have been to no avail.

Can anyone offer some insight? Thank... Read more

Answer:HP + IDT HD Audio = Selective Headphones

As this appears to be a problem ONLY in certain games, I would post this on the gaming section. Maybe one of the gamers has some suggestions.

If it were not specific to certain games then you would have to look at the audio drivers.

BTW, in most cases you need vendor provided drivers, due to custom implementations of the IDT (formerly SigmaTel) hardware. The IDT site even states this.

Hi, i got my new satellite L20 and am so far impressed with it, however the sound through the speakers mp3s etc is fine, but the sound when I plug my headphones in is very low and nothing like my old nec notebook.

Is there any settings or anything or is this just the way it is? If so is there any way of amplifying it?

Thanks in advance.

Hi

It sounds like a controller in the ?Volume Control? is set to low.

Please go to ?Controller Panel? ? ?Sound & Audio Devices Properties?. In the ?Volume? tab please select ?Advanced?. There you will find some volume controllers. Change the controller to high.

Hello guys, I have been searching around about this but they always end up with a headphones that has built-in Dolby Audio. I just bought a USB Headphones and when I use it, the Dolby software always disabled. If I plug in a headset/earphone base on 3.5mm jack the software work again. Does Dolby Audio software only run on a specific hardware? anyway my laptop has built-in Dolby Advanced Audio v2 and the sound card was Conexant SmartAudio.

Along with this, there is a little more question. The headphones I bought (Dragon War Beast) is a 5.1 channel sound (said on the box & the website). But I honestly confused if it was real or not cuz in Windows Audio it only show stereo channel on Speaker Setup as well as the manual said USB 2.1 Stereo Vibrating Headset (different from the box). Is there a way I can test if its a stereo or 5.1 sound?
Thanks in advance. Any help is always apreciated, and of course sorry for my bad english

Answer:How can I use Dolby Audio with USB Headphones

When you use USB headsets, you bypass the PC's sound card (and add on's such as the Dolby). The USB headset has the "sound card" (conversion from digital to analog) built in.

The 5.1 is a function of the USB headset and again does use the PC sound. If the source, such as a game, is 5.1 then you will get the 5.1 (simulated) sound. Unless there are multiple speakers in the headset I don't see how it can get "real" 5.1 sound. Its like my LCD HD TV, it has two stereo speakers but simulates surround sound.

Hi, I am having an issue with my laptop where the sound is coming from both my laptop speakers and my headphones. Before when I would plugin my headphones the sound would stop coming from the speakers and only come from the headphones. But after upgrading to Windows 10, this no longer happened. I have tried all the solutions I have found online. I installed the latest audio driver for my specific machine from the HP website (IDT High-Definition (HD) Audio Driver 6.10.6425.0), I have tried uninstalling and reinstlling this driver, I have tried using the generic windows audio driver and now I have even downgraded to Windows 8.1 (clean install) but nothing has worked. In the playback device list there are two options, "Speakers/HP" which seems to cover both my laptop speakers and headphones, and a second device "Communication Headphones"  which is enabled but when I test it no sound comes from my headphones. I seen a solution online using the IDT Audio Control Panel however the control panel does not seem to come with the IDT CODEC I mentioned above. Any help would be much appreciated as I have been trying to resolve this for the last week to no avail.  Thanks,TheOriginalDrNo

Hi, I have an HP Pavillion DV6 3216 US entertainment notebook which does not currently have functioning audio. I have no audio coming through the built in speakers (I've tried fiddling with the playback device options/properties/testing the device to no avail) but do have audio when I plug a pair of headphones into the audio jack. I've tried updating my audio drivers and installing the latest through HP's website, but that didn't help. When I go to the system manager and view the properties --> details of Headphones and Speakers (IDT High Definition Audio) it says that no driver files are required or have been loaded for this device. However, when I open up the IDT sound panel click on the independent headphones setup and press test I get audio to play through the speakers for a few seconds until the test ends. I'd appreciate any suggestions to fix this, thank you in advance!

Answer:Audio only playing through headphones

A little more obsessive searching about on the internet led me to an HP forum post by lgrangea while I was initially skeptical about fixing my laptop with a toothpick (or in my case a floss n toss) where the magic of software had failed me but this wisdom worked! I claim no credit for just spreading the good word to the many people of the world!

"I FOUND THE SOLUTION FOR THIS!

After being awake yesterday to 4h00 AM trying to reinstall drivers etc, I found this problem to be a hardware issue (SOLVABLE). I noticed a lot of laptops using IDT sound chips have this issue (I have a HP 8540p).

Basically something in the headphone jack is bent/twisted, making the PC think there's a jack connected. Just open the IDT control panel and get a toothpick. Gently poke inside the headphone jack picking the metal contacts. I did this for maybe 30 seconds until I noticed the IDT audio manager changed the headphones state to unconnected, and now I have speakers working!

Hope this helps, feel free to copy/paste this around forums, has a lot of people with Dells are complaining also."

I recently discovered that if I plug in my earpiece to the audio jack on my laptop, my movie will stop and if I press play again, the sound will come out from my speakers anyway and there is nothing on my earpiece.

HOWEVER, if I only plug in my earpiece halfway, then both the speakers and earpiece will have sound.

Can anyone help?

Note: The earpiece works fine on my phone

Answer:Earpiece not working?

Is your earpiece a typical pair of stereo headphones or some type of microphone-earphone combination made to plug into your cell phone? Laptop audio output jacks are usually designed to work with typical stereo headphones using a standard 3 circuit mini-plug wiring configuration. Putting in a plug with different wiring may confuse the laptop's audio switching hardware.

Hello all, The audio on my E570 has stopped working for about a month now, and I am not sure why. I have tried completely removing the Conexant driver and reinstalling, removing and restarting, restarting the windows audio service, removing the microphone, sound, and conexant drivers in all orders (after re-install). I used the driver available on the E570 driver page for the audio specifically. It is my understanding that I cannot use realtek audio driver instead as well.  My sound works when I plug in headphones in the audio jack, however my microphone sends feedback when using skype and other chats (other person hears themselves).  I read online that the audio jack can sometimes malfunction and cause the computer to think that there are headphones plugged in, however the computer clearly detects the headphones, and detects when the headphones have been removed. Has anyone come across this issue before? Is there any other options for me to test before I am forced to attempt a restore? Thank you

Hello,
Basically,
On my laptop, I run an HDMI cable to the TV. Using VLC Player I put a show on for my friends to watch.
What I would like to do, is watch something else at the same time on my laptop and hear the sounds on my headphones that are plugged into the same laptop.
I found one application called CheVolume, but it's not free.
Is there a way to make this happen for free?
My old laptop was able to do this no problem and I never had to configure anything. It just worked.
How can I do this again. I have a Realtek High Definition Audio, and High Definition Audio Device, Drivers in the my device manager if that helps.

Answer:Split Audio, one app to HDMI/TV, another app to headphones

Windows will only allow one default audio device. What you want to do can't be done unless some 3rd party program will provide it.

I've only been having this exact problem recently; whenever I try to play audio from my laptop (HP Pavilion 15-n271ea I think, x64) with my headphones (3.5mm jack, Sony) the audio plays through my speakers and not my headphones. This would happen before (with audio playing through the headphones as well as the speakers) but would always be resolved if I restarted my laptop; no such luck now. All of my drivers are up to date (apparently), and I've gone into the sound settings, everything's at default, etc etc. No option for headphones, just "Speaker/HP".

Been into the DTS Audio Control panel and pressed a few buttons, to no avail.

I can upload specs if that'd be of any use; I've been scrolling through various forums for a few hours now and trying what I can, but nothing's worked.
(I use Windows 10 Home v10.0.14393 Build 14393.)

Thank you in advance.

hi there, i have bought some cheap bluetooth headphones (7 day shop) and a very simple dongle (deal extreme) for my wife to listen to the radio at her pc at work. She has managed to connect the dongle and phones but can't figure out how to route the audio output to bluetooth. any ideas. ta

Answer:routing audio to bluetooth headphones

Is it these headphones click here ? I use these to listen to music from my pc. Surprisingly good quality sound when I got them working. Not sure I understand the problem. The process of connecting a phone is very similar. Have you managed to "pair" the headphones to the computer? The pairing code is 0000.My pc uses WIDCOMM software drivers for the bluetooth. Some cheap dongles use Bluesoleil drivers which I would avoid. They limit transfers to a few MB until you send them money. The bluetooth interface should allow you to find devices in range. Select the headphones (BTS-PHF38), enter pairing code, select the service "stereo audio". When connected, the headphones automatically replace the pc's speakers for sound output.

I have 2 logitech z623 and a car sub in my room and i'm using 2 y splitters to make it work and i'm not liking it, i found this.  http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Alctron-4-Channel-Studio-Headphone-Splitter-Amplifier-1-4-TRS-Outputs/131620783328?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&_trksid=p2055119.m1438.l2649 and it looks pretty good but its designed for headphones, what would happen if i plugged 3 of the outputs into my speaker setup. the input would just be aux from laptop.obviously each set of speakers has their own amp so my guess is that it would be okay, but i would like some opinions  Cheers,

As of yesterday I started having the issue that when I went to play audio of any kind it would pause every 5-10 seconds. I had just been listening to music for about 40 minutes with no problems but when I plugged them in a bit later the issue started. I have tried multiple different sources of audio Eg. Xbox music internet explorer ect. My headphones do have a play/pause button on them witch did stop working around the time when the issue started but does not affect computers but I am yet to test on another phone. I have reset the phone once, the phone Is a Lumia 435. Sorry for over-explaining a bit .

Yesterday I restarted my Windows 10 computer which was frozen at the time. When it restarted I plugged my headphones in but my computer said that there was no headphone plugged in. I searched up on youtube of how to get this to work but it didn't help. I think my computer my have deleted 'High Definition Audio Device' from device manager leaving Nvidia High Definition Audio.

I would really appreciate some help as how to go about fixing this problem.

Thank you.

Hi, lately I've had a few problems like Skype constantly logging me off and my computer not detecting my internet but after I finally fixed those problems, my speakers stopped working. I'm not very good with computers so I looked around through the internet and tried a bunch of things like disabling/enabling the headphones, uninstalling them entirely, using different headphone jacks, and restarting my computer. though I noticed I didn't have some of the things people were talking about. for example, I don't have the realtek audio drive thing, even though i'm pretty sure I used to have itGyazo - 9999964142c8d3ec55c8fb039a940e43.png. in another post I saw about someone with a similar problem he had about 6 devices shown here-Gyazo - c738b764fe632678c3490604e187f4d1.png- and that was a good thing apparently. I have horrible with computers all the time so there might just be a really simple fix that I never noticed.

Answer:No audio is played at all from speakers/headphones.

Welcome to the forum.

From the first link I see you only have "High Definition Audio" which suggests you only have the generic, basic function Windows installed sound driver. If you are supposed to have Realtek it will need to be reinstalled. You should be able to get the driver from HP downloads for your specific model or you can download the driver direct from Realtek.
The Realtek High Definition Codecs can be downloaded here: Realtek

When I have headphones plugged in to the audio jack, I get no sound out of the right audio channel on my Yoga 2 Pro. Both the right and left speakers work fine with the headphones unplugged. I have had the computer for more than a year, and this is a new problem I just noticed a few days ago. I have tried disabling and enabling the Realtek audio drivers. I have tried reinstalling the Realtek audio drivers. I have checked the audio balance in the audio settings. I have tried updating windows. I have tried restarting the computer. I have tried muting and unmuting the sound. None of these things have worked for me. Has anybody else had this problem? Is there anything else I can try? Unfortunately, my computer is no longer under warranty, and I don't want to have to take it in to be repaired.

Yes I checked sound settings, the headphones are there when I plug them, theres just no sound. Anyone with similiar issue or fix? so you have your headset checked as being default audio? so when you plug them they will become default on the default playback setting?
also you don't need to restart your computer, you can try uninstalling the speakers and the headset drivers on driver manager or on Settings, Devices, Connected Devices and you remove them and you plug them and they should reinstall.
you could also disable the speakers while you use the headset so you know the sound won't go there.

Recently upgraded from xp and i feel like an idiot for upgrading. so i am using an creative xfi fatality sound card and there is no plug to connect to front audio ports. I am trying to get my headphones to work under headphone mode and not speakers.
now my problem is when i go to playback options in windows7 i am given speakers which is enable, and headphones which are disabled. the headphone mode under advanced tab only has the front jacks under jack information. i tried going to advance on speakers but i am only given modes like stereo 5.1 and 7.1.
so basicly i want the ability to plug in my headphone to my sound card in the back n get the nice directional sound i had in XP.

Answer:headphones mode audio problem

slovakftw, welcome to the Seven Forums.

You can't make the changes you want in the Windows audio properties, it has to be done in the X-Fi controls. If all you installed for the card was the drivers you should have this,

where you can set the card to headphone mode, and then enable or disabled CMSS3D, which is what you are looking for. Alternatively if you didn't install it you can find the Console Launcher (which has all the settings as the above control panel and a few more),

You can find the latest version here,

Creative Worldwide Support > Sound Blaster

Locate your card, then click on "beta application" and download the Console Launcher. The beta is a fair bit newer than the last official release and works just fine (or at least I haven't come across any bugs in it on mine).

Hello. I have been using my TurtleBeach EarForce P11 headset for a long time and just yesterday, they stopped working. After a long time of looking in to it and trying to find the problem, I found out what's wrong. Please see pictures below

The audio jack is meant to be recognized on my TurtleBeach headset, not the Realtek HD audio. I don't know how to change it so that the audio jack is recognized on my turtlebeach headset. I currently get no sound through my headphones because of this. The headphones are enabled and set as my default device. I have searched around for a while trying to look for a fix to the problem and so far, nothing works. Any help would be very greatly appreciated. Thanks

Ok, so i got a new monitor ASUS VH236H and I have my computer hooked up via DVI and I have a green audio cable from my computer's out port to my monitors audio-in. I then have my headset green audio in hooked up to my monitor's audio-out. So when my DVI source is selected, the audio works flawlessly for my computer to headphones.

I then have my 360 hooked up to my monitor's HDMI port, and the audio also works flawlessly, but ONLY when my monitor's source is HDMI. When my monitor's souce is DVI, I get audio/video from my computer, and when my monitor's source is HDMI, i get audio/video from my 360. But I'm wondering if I can get audio from both at the same time. I like to listen to music/talk to friends on computer, but i would like to do this while playing 360 .

To sum this up, Is there any way I can get audio from both computer and xbox 360 simultaneously while playing one or the other? thanks in advance

Answer:Trying to get audio to my headphones from both computer and Xbox 360. Need help!

Not with the monitor in the loop, as it will only output the audio for whichever input is selected.

You would need to bypass the monitor and connect the audio sources with a Y cable.

Out of nowhere I've had a problem with the audio of my laptop. Audio plays from both the laptop speakers and the headphones when they are plugged in. I've tried setting the headphones as default device in playback settings but this doesn't work. The headphones don't work when I try to test them either. I've had a look around online and haven't found any solutions yet. I tried updating the audio drivers but that didn't get the job done either.

My old MSI computer died and I moved the hard drive to my Alienware 17 R2.  Everything seems to run fine after I downloaded the drivers from the Dell website... EXCEPT for the sound.  I get no sound from the speakers or headphones when I plug them in.  I know the sound worked BEFORE I swapped the hard drive.
This is my DJ laptop hard drive, so I can't just reload windows, I need to keep everything.
Any ideas?

Whenever I plug in my headphones, the audio from my computer still plays on speakers.  I can still get the headphones to play audio though if I sleep my computer then wake it and log in.  But even then, if the headphone accidentally disconnects from the jack then I have to repeat the process.

Hi, First off not sure if this is the right forum. It's an audio issue but I'm almost certain that it's some sort of conflict/issue with Windows 10. Was fine on 7. Don't want to roll back though because Win10 works much better for me.

Need some help getting these two things working please. I have a 5.1 speaker system and some headphones.
The speakers always work fine but I cannot get the headphones working. I've tried loads of different VIA drivers and they're all utter rubbish. Depending on which I use, I get two different problems:
1. Headphones will work but distort vocals. As if trying to push surround sound through stereo headphones. Can't find any setting in the VIA software to change this.

2. Headphones play fine but there's no left/right split. As in playing a 2 channel (I use a right/left audio test video on YouTube) will play both sounds through both sides of the headphones. Mono sound I guess?

Also depending on the driver, I might get just Speakers listed under playback devices, or speakers and headphone.
Last thing I did right now was uninstall all the drivers and let Windows update them by default. Under playback devices atm both speakers and headphones are appearing, so I'm on issue number 2.
Thanks in advance

Hey guys

A few days ago I bought myself Sony MDR-ZX660 headphones. They have a built-in mic and it uses a single combo jacket for the whole thing. When I connect it to my computer, the mic won't work.
My audio driver is Realtek HD Audio (6.0.1.7474).
I can retask the connector to Mic in or Line in, both of which seem to enable the mic, but then there's no sound output.
I've tried front and rear connectors, no effect (plus I need it to work with the front jack anyway, since the cord is pretty short).
I've mucked around with every setting I could find in the Realtek Audio Manager.
When I connect the headset, it appears under Playback Devices, but not under Recording Devices, unless I retask it to Mic in/Line in, in which case it's the opposite.
It works fine in a laptop, both mic and headphones worked fine, together.
I've googled it quite a bit and I can only find the exact opposite problem, where people can't get 2 jack headsets working with the combo jack, but no one else seems to have problems with getting a combo jack headset working.

I also have another issue with my laptop and while that isn't a hardware issue, I don't feel like making a new thread just for that. Basically it has this Conexant audio driver that it came with, which has such a terrible sound quality that it makes listening to anything a horrible experience. The Windows default driver works much better, however the Conexant one keeps coming back no matter what I... Read more

I noticed several weeks ago (after moving my pc) that when I listen to audio it is extremely quiet. I have listened to audio on youtube, in video games, and the audio test sounds in Realtek; they are all very quiet (almost inaudible). I have noticed the problem is the same whether I am listening through my external speakers or through my headphones plugged into the front headphone jack.

I have Realtek audio with the most recent drivers (8.19.11). I have all the sound settings maxed out at 100. I have attempted to disable all sound effects under enhancements under speaker properties. None of these attempts have been successful at resolving the problem.

Also, I ran this application, "microsoft fixit" found here, and it found no problems:

http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows-vista/Tips-for-fixing-common-sound-problems

Several observations. First, when I plugged my microphone in and tested it last night (my mic is attached to my headset), it was normal volume (loud) played back through my headphones and through my speakers. This tells me that my speakers and headset seem to be working fine.

Also, I went to my computer/program files/realtek/audio/installshield and i noticed the rtkupd64 application was updated 8.4.11, which may have been around the time i started noticing these problems. Just thought i'd mention that.

Please let me know what more information you need from me. I put my computer specs I know under my profile.

Thanks!

Hi, I'm having an odd problem with my sound jack and no one else seems to have it. While headphones are plugged in only the right side has sound (speakers are fine). I know this isn't the headphones and it doesn't always happen. Occasionally if I boost the volume to 100% for a moment it'll come back, but it doesn't always work. When I troubleshoot, it sometimes detects something and tells me to turn up the volume but usually doesn't. Could this be the BIOS (the brightness indicator is stuck and the card reader crashes too >_> )? I would like to make sure there's nothing really wrong before my warrenty runs out. specs:G470 ~ 9 months old4 GB RAMintel i5 sandy bridge500 GB HDDWindows 7 64-bit (w/ WUBI install of Ubuntu 12.04 LTS)checked for updates ect.
