How to disable or hide the search box Internet Explorer 11

Question: How to disable or hide the search box Internet Explorer 11

The September 2017 monthly rollup for W7 (KB4038777), W8.1 (KB4038792) and W10 (KB4038782) which includes the Cumulative Internet Explorer Security update has changed the layout and behaviour of Internet Explore 11. This update has brought back the search box beside the URL bar. This update also automatically changes tabs to be on a new line under the url / navigation bar.

Preferred Solution: How to disable or hide the search box Internet Explorer 11

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Can anyone tell me how to disable and/or hide the Search Box on the Windows 7 Start Menu with group policy?  I'm creating group policies to lock down the desktop so that users may select only a couple of shortcuts on the Start Menu: they don't need
the Search Box.  I've figured out how to lock down pretty much everything else, but there isn't any obvious setting to make the Search Box go away entirely.  Thanks in advance for your time and help in these regards.

If you've updated to the new "Creators Update" in Windows 10, you may have noticed the Edge button in IE11 - it's a way for Microsoft to push users over to the new browser (as IE11 is the end of the line).

You can remove it by running "regedit" and navigating to:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main

If that path doesn't exist, you may need to manually create the last subkeys (Internet Explorer and Main).

Then, change the value of "HideNewEdgeButton" from 0 to 1. If this value doesn't exist, create a new DWORD(32Bit) called HideNewEdgeButton and give it a value of 1.

You may need to restart your PC for this change to take effect.

You should only make these changes if you're familiar with the registry editor - as you could break things if it goes wrong.

Hello,
How can i hide the adress bar in a popp-up IE-Edge ? We start each Pop-Up with window.open(page, name, options) where our options "menubar=no,toolbar=no,location=no". However the url appears in the new pop-up under the title.
In IE-8 there was no adress url displayed in pop-up window.

I use Firefox at home, and when I write posts on an internet forum, the formatting is "live" - e.g. if I select a piece of text and click the bold button or press CTRL + B, it will just display in bold: TEXT

At work I use Internet Explorer and when posting messages on a forum (like TSG), when I click the Bold button, the formatting is not applied "live" whilst I'm still writing / editing the message, it is shown wrapped in square brackets: [ B ] TEXT [ /B ]. The same is true of Opera.

Same goes for other formatting - italic, underline, color, font, image, quote, indent and so forth.

I thought these were HTML tags, but I'm now led to understand they are in fact BBCode tags.
Is there a way to make IE (and Opera / any others) act like Firefox does, and display the font as intended whilst the message is still being written / edited, rather than showing the tags?

It sounds like a minor thing, but if there is a huge amound of text formatting in a forum message, using IE can be pretty awkward.

Ta!

Hi all!

I have a habit of whenever looking at cluttered folders (Program files) to press the key of the first letter of the file i want (say Mozilla firefox, i press letter M).

This works fine in XP, ubuntu, pretty much everything. But windows 7 rather "searches" for things with the letter M, which has a several second delay on my PC which i don't like and/or need.

Does anyone know how to disable this auto-"search
" feature?

Cheers,

When we try to use internal websites (sites like hostname.some.subdomain.com:NNNN/some/path/ ) internet explorer 11 shows autocomplete entries for previous visits to those websites, but, when selected, it then searches bing for those URLs, and that makes
very little sense to do.

it's an address bar. it's where addresses are typed in. I don't want internal website addresses (frankly, any website addresses) to turn into a bing search. I don't search from the address bar. Ever. In previous versions I could disable that, and in this
version that option seems to have been replaced with "go directly if a single word is typed in [intranet site like "home" or "intranet" or "sharepoint", etc.] ", but that doesn't disable the search feature enough to
avoid still continuing to search when internal websites are entered/selected in the address bar.
Is there some other place to disable the search, so that addresses typed into the address bar work?

Hi, with all the talk about how vulnerable Internet Explorer is, I'm considering disabling it as explained in this article, since I don't use it anyway. My question is, since it's so necessary to have IE for many reasons in Windows, which is why you can't uninstall it, will there be any negative effects on my computer if I disable it, such as not receiving Windows Updates every month, or other things that the computer uses IE for behind the scenes?

Answer:Disable Internet Explorer 10

No, things will work fine (the base engine gets left around, but the IE app pieces that use it will be removed - thus making sure things still work from a Modern UI or WebBrowser Control application perspective). Firefox doesn't have a shipping (non-beta) modern version, but you'll still be able to use the desktop version. Right now the only released/stable browsers with modern components/browsers are IE and Google Chrome.

Here is a step-by-step process for you to disable IE:

1. Open up Control Panel and switch view to Large Icons
2. Go to the Programs and Features
3. On the left Pane go to the turn Windows Features on or off
4. Provide Confirmation if non-administrator
5. Usually Internet Explorer is 3rd in this list of Features installed by Windows, its checked, so uncheck it.
6. Read the warning that says "Turning off Internet Explorer X might affect other Windows Features and programs installed on your computer including default settings. Are you sure you want to continue? (Note: X is for the version of Internet Explorer installed which would usually be versions 8-11)
7. Click yes, then OK and then wait while Windows makes changes to features as it may take several minutes to complete
8. Restart your computer

That's it, after you restart your computer, Internet Explorer will be disabled

But according to Microsoft, Internet Explorer is a component of the Windows operating system and the most current version will continue to follow the specific support lifecycle policy for the operating system for which it is installed. Is the September 30, 2015 date for a version prior to IE11?

Someone I spoke to told me to use mmc so i open mmc\add snap-in\group policy editor then try to navigate to the remote pc I get a message which says access is denied, you may not have appropriate rights. I have created an administrator account on the remote pc so when prompted i put in ipaddress\account name\account password but keep getting this message.
I am a novice at this stuff so go easy but i would be really grateful if anyone could help!

Hey guys does anyone know how to disable Internet Explorer without a proxy? I've been trying to work this out for a while now, i can't find it running in the task manager and i can't stop it. I believe it's being hacked externally to look up sites with spyware but none has been found on my system, i have come to this conclusion because i've been getting phishing emails with stuff i've been looking at on ebay as a hook. rolleyes

I've tried using a dead proxy to stop it from connecting but that messes around with YIM that uses the same connection settings as IE, i don't want to remove it from the system because i don't know what that will do... Microsoft really need to stop trying to force people to use it by integrating it into their systems, i'm running vista home premium if anyone can help it would be greatly appreciated. :major

Answer:Anyone know how to disable Internet Explorer without a proxy?

Hi

I would be more thinking you may have malware on your PC that is causing this and do run the below guide and then start a new thread in the malware forum area and attach the requested logs so the malware experts there can see if this is caused by malware.

Please read and follow the following READ & RUN ME FIRST. Malware Removal Guide and once finished please start a new thread in the Malware Forum plus a guide on how to attach the logs HOW TO: Attach Items To Your Post Click to expand...

Could use in lieu of IE, Opera or Firefox for your browsing and you can se one of them as defualt broswer (Control Panel\Programs\Default Programs\Set Default Programs) as you have mentioned fully disabling it will mess with your YIM, so seeing if malware is the culprit is the best course of action for now.

NO security updates for IE8 in a YEAR - a person would have to be crazy to connect it to the internet.A huge security flaw in Windows was announced months ago, dating back to 2000, with CRITICAL fixes released - just not for Windows XP or Server 2003. Add an unpatched IE8 to that - watch out.Simply uninstalling IE8 will not do, that leaves the even less secure IE6 included in Windows XP SP3 still in place.message edited by MacGruber

InPrivate browsing this is most advanced feature of Microsoft’s Internet Explorer 8. What it does is it keeps your tracks clear, it provides you secure mode of surfing the web. InPrivate Browsing prevents Internet Explorer from storing data about a user’s browsing session. This includes cookies, temporary Internet files, history, and other data. No data is recorded, no cookies, no temporary files nothing is recorded or saved while you surf the web. Sounds very interesting Huh!
But for some people it is something that they don’t want, they want to keep records of their/someone activities, they don’t want some one to hit on their system and surf to any site without leaving a record. But it can’t be possible unless you don’t turn off InPrivate Browsing In Internet Explorer. So how to do that?
Start your Registry Editor (Start > Run > type regeditand hit enter).
Go to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Inte rnet Explorer\Privacy Create a DWORD value named EnableInPrivateBrowsing and set it to 0, and to re-enable it, set the DWORD value to 1 or delete the key.
Now restart IE and you can see your applied changes.

Answer:Disable InPrivate Browsing in Internet Explorer

I won't suggest anyone to disable Inprivate filtering in such a way.

I've tried to find this on the internet, yet I'm not having any luck. I need to disable this error reporting as it is reporting misinformation of a site that I go to frequently. It blocks me out of it. I already know that it's not my anti=virus software which is Bitdefender 2010. I have the internet toolbar disabled. Is there a way to disable this error reporting in IE8? Here is the message I get when I go to the webpage. To disable the URL Error Redirection, go to the option page of your toolbar. (I'm not sure how to find this)[Saving space, attachment deleted by admin]

Answer:How to disable Internet Explorer 8 Error Reporting

Keep in mind the most IMPORTANT step in the following is creating a backup of the Registry...That being said:To disable sending crash reports of Internet Explorer, you must do the following:   1. Click Start, Run   2. In the Open box type the command regedit and click OK to launch the publisher of the registry   3. Go to the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \ SOFTWARE \ Microsoft \ Internet Explorer \ Main   4. For this key, locate the entry DWORD named IEWatsonDisabled. If it does not you can create as follows:          * menu Edition Pull down the Edit menu          * Click New, DWORD Value, type the name of the new DWORD value            (IEWatsonDisabled)   5. Double-click DWORD Value IEWatsonDisabled. and set its value to 0 (in the field Value data)   6. Create a second DWORD value as described in step 4 (steps 4-1 and 4-2), the IEWatsonEnabled name (if it does not already exist). Put the value 0 in the field Value data   7. The changes are taken into account immediately, and error reports IE will no longer be sent to Microsoft engineers.

Why is internet explorer so slow compared with other browsers.Changing from one thread to another is slower than Firefox.Indeed the circle on the address bar keeps turning for about 15 seconds after the new thread or page has been picked.Just went into Tools.Developers tools.disable and clicked on script.I would say without the script I/E would be about the quickest Browser out there.Unfortunately there is some programs that need script installed so I have to enable it again to use them.Maybe if they put an easier or quicker way to disable script more folk would use I/E.

Answer:Internet Explorer slow unless you disable Script

You appear to have had an issue with script before. I find IE9 to be quick and actually faster than Firefox on PCA. On my system Firefox seems to be the slowest browser on PCA. Opera and Chrome work very quickly on PCA.

Enable "Delete Browsing History on Exit"

Days to keep browsing History (at the bottom)
Set to Zero

Hi Guys,
Im setting up a Windows 8 machine in a salon. I have set up two logons, one Admin with Administator rights and password protected and one User with Standard rights with no password.
The User profile is for empoyees to access a Salon database. The salon does not want employees to have internet access.

I have kept internet explorer installed so that the Admin can have access. I have crippled internet explorer on the User profile by changing the proxy server to 127.0.0.1 which works but I wouldn't take a savy employee too long to get around it.

I do not want to completely deinstall internet explorer (Programs and Features - Turn programs off) from the whole machine as a remote login program I use called Splashtop stops working when I do.
Also if I Set Default Programs and change access to internet explorer under User then it disables it on Admin and allows it on User! Exactly the opposite of what I want to achieve!

Any ideas on a easy way to disable browser access on one logon only?

Once it is all up and running I could remove internet explorer completely and install Firefox portable on the Admin profile but if I can keep IE with Splashtop I would prefer it.

Cheers
Al

Hi all,
I use Mozzilla Firefox for my web browsing and was wondering if there is a way I can disable/restrict Internet Explorer?
I am asking this as I have attempted one suggested method (using a proxy server for your LAN settings with an address of 0.0.0.0 via port 80), however this method removed my ability to download and install Microsoft & Windows updates. Also, whilst I cannot be certain of this, I have a feeling that this technique was responsible for the loss of my ability to stream live radio over the internet (I could not find any other settings that would have caused this to happen).
I am using Kaspersky Pure 3.0 for my resident anti virus and could make use of "application control" to lock IE down completey but do not know if there are any services, applcations etc that rely on IE to function properly or whether tha is going to cause more problems than it solves.
Any ideas/suggestions would be helpful in attempting to restrict what I view as one big unnecessary security hole on my pc.
Thanks for any help that can be provided.

Enable or Disable JavaScript - Internet Explorer 8, 9, 10 solution short topic for you ..

To disable JavaScript in IE 8 (I have) is very easy:

- Click F 12 (F12) button on your keyboard (so you have Developer Tools little window on your screen),
- click 'Disable' tab, notch 'Script' subtab (in IE 9, IE 10: this setting can only be changed if Protected Mode is turned off).
- click F12 to disappear Developer Tools window.
You are secure - no scripts, and no ads, so page load becomes very quick!

To enable JS:
- click F12, 'Disable' tab, and unnotch 'Script' subtab. Then F12.

Thank you!

RE: Enable or Disable JavaScript - Internet Explorer 8, 9, 10

...If you do this, Windows Update won't work anymore - if you rely on Automatic Updates, & don't get them manually, who knows what may happen, or what else won't work - bad tweak - leave it alone - if you want to disable scripting, do it the right way, through - tools ? internet options ? security ? custom level ? scripting - messing with "source code" is as bad or worse as messing with the registry, if it's not done properly...

I hope some one can offer to me some further suggestions as to how to disable these annoying I.E. 7 script error messages. I am new to this site and recently posted a much shorter version of this problem.  Since I have not gotten any suggestions , I thought I would post again with more info.  I am getting I.E.7 script error messages, and I want to get rid of them once and for all.  I have been reading about these, they seem to be pretty common, and I have followed a lot of suggestions before coming to this site.  So far nothing has worked.  I have found out (according to others) that I.E.7 script error messages can be disabled.  That is what I want to do.On my computer I have the following:  Windows XP Pro, Service Pack 3, Vipre (that is the correct spelling) antivirus and firewall (these are excellent)Spysweeper antispyware and Max Registry Cleaner that runs a daily registry scan ( their tech support hasn't solved this problem either so I will probably get rid of their cleaner). I use the current version of Mozilla Firefox as my main browser.  I know I.E.7 is imbedded in Windows and it can complicate things if it is removed. Here is what I have done so far and NONE of it has worked: These suggestions are from various web sources.I opened I.E.7 and went to Start>Run and typed in "iexplore.exe".*Tools Menu>Internet Options>Advanced Tab.*Click on Advanced Tab, scroll down to "Browsing".*Check off box next... Answer:How do I DISABLE these (*&###&*)Internet Explorer 7 script error messages

It's showing a script error, because the website you're visiting has an error in its scripts. However, you probably already knew that. So, try this:Windows Knowledge BaseIf that doesn't work, try this:Quote from: windowsitpro.com   1.  Start a registry editor (e.g., regedit.exe).   2. Navigate to the HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main registry subkey.   3. Double-click the Disable Script Debugger value.   4. Set the value data to "yes" to disable the script debugger, then click OK (setting the value to "no" enables the script debugger).   5. Restart IE for the change to take effect. The registry editor is a powerful tool, and can damage your windows installation if you make mistakes. If you're not comfortable using it, try to have another individual with more experience perform any edits.

I've got windows xp internet explorer 7 and it keeps coming up with something called "certificate errors" and won't let me access the site. It usually hasn't been a massive problem except I've just bought an ipod, and the certificate errors won't let me download itunes! So I really need to disable the certificate errors. Following instructions, I've got as far as disabling it, but it says that I need to restart internet explorer for it to take into effect. How do I restart internet explorer? Or is there another easier way to disable the certificate errors? Please help! Thanks.

So when I'm in Internet Explorer, and I start to type the first few letters of a website, it pops up a list of a bunch of sites starting with that letter to try to pick the site for me..

I want to disable this, so nothing comes up at all or is automatically filled in until you hit the enter key and it takes you to the website.

I'm sure this can be done, anyone know how?

Thanks a lot in advance.

Hi, I use Vista Home Premium 32bit and I want to install Toolkit to Disable Automatic Delivery of Internet Explorer 8 at http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...displaylang=en

I also checked out this page at We know IE! : How to set IE 8 Blocker policy for the step by step guide to install it. But in Vista Home Premium 32 bit, I cannot open the Group Policy Editor. When I type GPEDIT.MSC from start\Run and then hit the Enter key, the error message says soemthing like GPEDIT.MSC does not exists.

After I downloaded the Toolkit, I run the IE8BlockerToolkit.EXE and it extracted 4 files:

IE80Blocker.adm
IE80Blocker.cmd
IE80BlockerHelp.htm
IE80BlockerHelp-GPFilteringDialog.jpg

I double clicked on IE80Blocker.cmd and then I cannot proceeed to the next step to setup the IE8 Blocker Template (IE80Blocker.adm) May I ask if anyone can shed some light on this? How can I install this Toolkit to Disable Automatic Delivery of Internet Explorer 8 in Vista Home Premium 32 bit properly? Many thanks in advance, you help is much appreciated.

Answer:Toolkit to Disable Automatic Delivery of Internet Explorer 8

Hmmm I am using IE8 and I have to say it is much better then IE7, and the in-private browser and malware/cookie blocking filters are nice. I have no issues with any website browsing, and If I do run into some that are not compatable with 8, I just click the compatability mode. Web slices are nice, and auto update themselves. IE8 is much more secure, and a provides a better internet experience IMO.

Does this happen to someone else also? I usually have about half dozen IE windows opened at anytime. I might start a few more and then close a couples. But eventually I notice one or two if the IE processes start to use up several hundred MB ram up to eventually 1GB ram. When one of the IE processes hit the 1 GB ram mark, it's inevitable that one of the IE windows then stop functioning, as clicking the link you don't get any page loading. If i then shut down that process, then everything works again.

Once in a while, i notice that one of the IE process would reach high ram usage of hundred MB ram and the screen saver would stop coming on as well as the power setting for turning off screen would be disabled. This is even if there's no IE process running a video at that time. It's possible that i might have open IE to say view a video before but I know i close that IE process and yet this still happens. If i go and shut down all the IE processes that seem to take a lot of mem, then screen saver comes on again.

Any fix for this? I imagine that this also affects other browsers as well?

Answer:Internet explorer taking up a lot of memory, also disable screensaver

Hard to believe i am the only one experiencing this??? anyone else?

When Internet Explorer 8 runs for the first time or when we reset the Internet Explorer Settings, you’ll see the Set Up Windows Internet Explorer 8 screen asking for the configuration of the search and accelerator settings.
After configuring the settings, a new tab window opens automatically, redirecting to Microsoft IE8 Website.
The setup modifies the following registry keys under HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main
1. REG_DWORD IE8RunOnceLastShown from 0 to 1
2. REG_DWORD IE8RunOncePerInstallCompleted from 0 to 1
3. REG_DWORD IE8TourNoShow from 0 to 1
4. REG_BINARY IE8RunOnceCompletionTime
5. REG_BINARY Window_Placement
It adds a REG_BINARY key called IE8RunOnceLastShown_TIMESTAMP.
You can disable it as follows: Disabling the setting on the local machine directly.
a) Open Registry editor (regedit.exe) and navigate to the following key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Int ernet Explorer\Main
b) Create a new REG_DWORD value named DisableFirstRunCustomize
c) Set its value data to 1.
d) Exit the Registry Editor.
You can also use the Group Policy Management Console to create this particular registry key and populate it to all clients. Read more on this at MSDN.

I would like to disable the feature of internet explorer 9 automatically going to full screen when you drag a window to the top of the screen.  I find that behavior very annoying.  I frequently drag windows to the top of the screen to reveal underlying
windows, and when IE 9 automatically goes full screen on me, that defeats my purpose of dragging that window out of the way.  If I want to resize the window, I'll resize it.  If the window is sized how I want it, I don't want it going free spirit
on me and resizing itself.  I want my interface to do what I tell it to do, not what it wants to do.
How do I defeat this feature (bug)?

I'v e been asked to implement a database in a warehouse with multiple users.  All I am giving them is a mouse, screen and PC.  They will have no keyboard.  All is working fine. The PC will be permanently logged on so work on one sign-on.Because the user account has access to a network drive I want them to not be able to physically access it (but need the access  for the database).  My question then is how can I disable (or permamently hide) the taskbar and start button when this user logs in.Also is it possible to disable the right mouse button over the desktop?Ideally, I'd like all this to be done when the PC is logged and a batch file is run to do this action, however all suggestions would be gratefully received.

Answer:Hide or disable taskbar

So I'm guessing you want the users to access/modify the database only and not see or access the other files on the network drive? Is this why you are wanting to hide the taskbar and start button? My computer also?Registry hack maybe?? try http://www.pctools.com/guides/registry/id/42/

Hello,

I have run into a nasty problem, when using the internet and using any search website, google, yahoo, bing, etc.. , I click on a result and it will redirect me to a seemingly random page or a site with similar things that I searched but on a totally different site from where i searched from. This happens no mater which browser i use, IE, firefox, opera, etc..

Another problem is that internet explorer will randomly start up and will not even pop up on my taskbar but sounds( music, advertisements, etc..) will be playing and iexplorer.exe will be in my process, ending the process will make the sounds dissappear. if left running i will eventaully get a message saying IE needs to close.

I am running Windows XP and have tried malwarebytes, superantispyware, and avira antivir. Needless to say, this is very annoying. Anything you can do to help me?

Thanks,

Darryl

These days I get message: Only secure content is displayed. This happened after the IE9 update, every time I visit some site, at the bottom of IE9 I am getting this pale yellow message box-- Only secure content is displayed message | Show all content.
And when I click on Show all content, the webpage loads all over again. This is getting irritating. How do I allow all content or disable this message?
Thanks in advance.

Answer:Disable or Turn Off Only secure content is displayed message in Internet Explorer

This message arises when you visit a website that contains mixed content viz. encrypted https and non-encrypted http on the same web page.
To turn off or disable this message open Internet Explorer > Internet Options > Security tab > Custom level > Under Settings > Under Display mixed content, select Enable. Click Apply/OK/Exit. Restart IE9.
Hope it helps.

My question is how do you remove, not hide, notification icons in the notification area? I'm not talking about the icons that you can remove in the properties menu either, like action center. I am talking about icons like the safely remove icon. It gives you the option of show or hide but not disable. I am a neat freak and I like to get rid of the hidden icons all together. I found out how to do it before but I don't remember. It was a system file you have to run but its not regedit. The one I am talking about lets you delete the icon permanantly. Anyone know how to do this?

Answer:how to delete/disable annoying Lenovo "Play games online!" tab in Internet Explorer?

Hello,

Here is how to change the default web page in Internet Explorer:

Start Internet Explorer (filename: IEXPLORE.EXE) as you normally do, then select Tools (Alt+T) from the main menu bar and Internet Options towards the bottom of the menu.  This will open the Internet Options dialog.
On the Internet Options dialog, click on the General tab.  At the top of the dialog are the Home Page settings.
In the Home Page settings field, double-click on the address for the web site you wish to remove, and press the Del key on the keyboard to delete it.
At the bottom of the dialog, click on the OK button to save the changes.

You can also add additional web pages to open when the browser starts by placing each one on a separate line in the Home Page settings field.

The policy, located at User Configuration\Administrative Templates\Windows Components\Internet Explorer\Search: Disable Find Files via F3 within the browser, does not work for IE11. This policy was designed only for IE5 and IE6

I've also attempted adding a registry entry:
HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Restrictions\NoFindFiles
Type: DWORD
Data: 1

This has not worked either to disable it.

The environment is composed of a 2012r2 Active Directory system with Windows 7 and above workstations.

Does anyone have any solutions to implement this for the latest version of IE?

If the user first exits the application, they can now access the ctrl alt delete menu. Is this possible?

This is a windows 7 system.

My users have finally become a little more used to Windows 7 netwrok login boxes with the tweaks that Hide Last User Name and other customizations. However, one major annoyance I would like to see go away is the default option that reverts to log into local PC if you mis-type domain login.

For example, via GPO I have the default domain to log into set. But if the user makes a typo and the computer denies domain login access it immediately switched to "Log on to: Local PC Name" assuming you must not have meant login to domain. But the users dont catch this and knwoing they just made a typo re-enter the login info for the domain. But now its set for Local PC and, of course, it again doesnt allow them access because all my usewrs dont have local accounts.

Way to fix it so it always stays with domain as target and no option for local (unless of course you knwo to ass the prefix localPCname\username)?

Answer:Hide / Disable Local PC login option?

im pretty sure local login cannot be disabled since it is used in recovery instances were the domain server is not active.

Hello,

I'm just wondering is there any way to hide internet explorere from appearing in windows 8.1 search and list of applications?
I know you can remove IE but I don't want to do this. Just want to "hide" it so somebody who knows location of iexplorer can start it. Usually when dealing with Chrome or Firefox I can rename the app and change icon but IE is "protected".
IE is basically used for everything so removing it isn't an option so any advice is welcome.

Thanks for reading.

Answer:internet explorer and search

Hello boopathis, Welcome to TSF!

Please try this workaround (you will need your Windows? XP SP2 CD).

(In the event that you do not have a Windows? XP CD with SP2, you will need to 'borrow' one from a friend or colleague, as the manufacturer's "Recovery Discs" will not work in this instance.)

Insert the Windows? XP CD in your drive. (Hold down the Shift Key to prevent it from starting.)

Go Start > Run ...in the box type in sfc /scannow …please take note of the space between the sfc and the /.

This is the System File Checker...it will scan all the Windows? core system files to ensure that they are in their respective correct places, and if not replace them from the CD.

During the scan you may be asked to Insert the CD, if this happens just go retry and let it do its thing.

One important point: While sfc is running, it is not advisable to do any other work, or have any browsers/programs running on the computer, until the scan is complete. (This process will generally take around 45-65 minutes to complete).

Once finished, remove the CD and reboot your machine...all should be "Normal" (hopefully).

Please post back with the result, or if there are any further queries/concerns.

Kind Regards,

Hey guys, a few days ago I installed cyberdefender, but it was a bad program for me so I uninstalled it. What I didn't expect was, cyberdefender created a new search provider for my IE. So now, everytime I type something in the search box for IE, it automatically become the address. For example, if I type "how to get cookies" in the search box, it became "http://www.howtogetcookies.com", and ofcourse there is no such site; therefore, everytime I uses the search box, the page become not invalid. So it is very frustrating. Please help me get rid of this stupid search function. (I think this search function uses the web ws.infospace.com) I also tried to manually detele this by going into tools, manage add-on, and detele the cyberdefender search function but it did not work.

Since my son in law used my Pc the information and search bar at the top of Internet explorer 9 has shrunk leaving limited space to type in, what I want to search and my spell check has vanished despite being enabled. How do I restore it to a workable size? Help would be appreated. Thank you

Answer:Search Bar at top of Internet Explorer

Go up to the top of IE right click then click on Lock the Toolbars so that there is no tick alongside it.
Then go to the right of the word Search which is on the right of the Address bar and when the cursor turns into a right and left arrow drag the Address bar to the right. Remember to put a tick back beside lock the toolbars.

I have IE6 with XP and SP2. I can access websites as normal, but today I noticed that I can't use Google or Yahoo etc. (I could yesterday, and suspect the kids have changed something but they deny it)

If I put a value in the search parameter field and click the "Search" button, nothing happens - no search occurs and there's no error message.

Eventually I've realised that IE isn't processing any url that contains parameters (as in a search), but it will process those without. For example, on the current google.co.uk home page, clicking on the hyperlinks for Images, Groups, News, etc doesn't work (they have parameters, shown in the status bar), but clicking the More>>> link does work as this is a simple link to a page.

Can anyone tell me what to do next ? (Can't find anything at MSoft)

Answer:Internet Explorer - can't search

Offhand I don't know what would cause this other than a possible search page hijacker.

The quickest solution might simply be to do a System Restore and see if that corrects it.

If you have different User Accounts on the machine (and with kids you probably should, just giving them limited privileges), you can check whether the problem exists in more than one profile.

I have a search bar that automatically comes up with Internet Explorer. I believe it comes from a browser aid called "Common Name," but cannot seem to get rid of it.

Here is my log from Hijack this... any help would be appreciated.

Welcome to TSG!

First do the following:

Go here http://www.lavasoftusa.com/support/download/ and download Adaware 6

Install the program and launch it.

I strongly recommend that you read the help file to familiarize yourself with the program.

Before running the scan look at the top of the main window and you will see a Gear Icon. This is where you configure the settings. Click on that and then in the next window that pops up click on the "Scanning" tab on the left side. Under "Drives and Folders" put a check by "Scan within archives" and below that under "Memory and Registry" put a check by all the options there.
The click on the "Tweak" tab and under "Scanning engine" put a check by "Unload recognized processes during scanning" ...........then......under "Cleaning engine" put a ckeck by "Let windows remove files in use at next reboot" then click "Proceed"

Next in the main window look in the bottom right corner and click on "Check for updates now" and get the latest referencefiles.
After getting the latest referencefiles you are ready to scan.

Click "Start" and in the next window make sure "Active in depth scanning" is checked then click "Next" and the scan will begin.

When it is finished put a check by and let it fix everything it finds.

Restart your computer.

Hello guys

eversince Windows XP icons in the tray bar automatically hide when unused. Since I believe Windows Vista there was the option to make those tray icons visible so they didn't hide even when they were not used. I cannot seem to find this option in Windows 10, does anyone know how I make sure the tray icons won't hide?

I want the icons in the big square to just be next to the others on the taskbar

In Windows 7 and 8/8.1 (and maybe also XP and Vista I don't remember) I know you could just right-click the arrow and mark a checkbox but there is no such thing in Windows 10.

thanks in advance

Hey.
Is there any way to disable the taskbar popup when you hover your mouse over the edge of the screen with auto-hide on? I still want to have it appear when I press the Windows key, but have that hotspot area somehow disabled. I've tried the app by Prisoner, but that disables the whole taskbar, leaving only the orb...

I need this for a Tablet PC i'm customising - I find that when I want to press controls near the edged of the screen, I hit that bloody hotspot area and get the taskbar instead of what I've been aming for. Also, disabling the taskbar completely would not work, since I need the notification icons (battery meter etc.). The tablet has a dedicated Windows button... and nothing else in the way of physical controls...

Thanks in advance for any suggestions.
