Question: USB sleep bug - Thinkpad X1 Carbon G5/Thunderbolt 3 dock

I have a bug that is fairly repeatable where when my laptop goes to sleep, the USB ports on the Thunderbolt 3 dock are not active when I wake the computer up. I can unplug the TB3 cable and plug it back in to regain access to the ports. Where can I report this issue?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

Just got purchased the x1 carbon 5th gen along with the Thunderbolt 3 dock.  However, the dock will not charge the laptop.  Every time I get the error message "The dock is not supplying enough power to your computer.  Please use the ac power adapter that came with the dock".  I am, in fact, using the ac adapter that came with the docking station.  I have updated the bios as well as all of the other recommended updates and still get the same error message.  Does anyone have a solution?

I have the same problem.  I have not updated bios or anything.  just got docking station yesterday.  only other items plugged into docking station are 2 displayport connected monitors (which are separately powered).

I recently purchased the X1 CRBON 5TH Gen (2017)...type 20HR plus a thunderbolt dock.I connected them together with a Dell 28" 4K (@30Hz) screen (p2815q) connected through DisplayPort from the dock, plus a Microsoft keyboard and Jabra 510 USB speakerphone.Using the Windows 10 stock image from Lenovo, plus Office 2016, Chrome, Visual Studio, Skype,  and various other apps (putty, RDP, SAP GUI, others) the video performance was atrociously bad. Alt-Tab, which I use heavily would take 3-4 seconds to respond, switching between applications, Windows would freeze and sometimes crash, I would often get blank or black windows in Chrome and Office. This was on the embedded Thinkpad screen as well as the external monitor.I ensured Windows Update was up to date, as well as Bios, Drivers etc through the Lenovo companion app. So...I dove into the BIOS and voila! There is a switch that lets me change the Video memory from 256 to 512 MB allocated!I went to change it, and it would not change until I changed the setting:BIOS > Config > Thunderbolt 3 > Security Level = from "User Authority" to "DisplayPort and USB"I switched that setting, and then set my video memory to 512 MB, rebooted and voila! Problem solved. I worked that way for a little while, took it into my office and plugged it back into my Thunderbolt 3 dock and while my video and LAN connections worked...my wireless keyboard (USB dongle), and Jabra 510 did not. Answer:X1 Carbon 5th Generation problem with Thunderbolt 3 dock

There are BIOS settings related to Thunderbolt (in the "Config" menu of BIOS setup), are these settings configured identically on both ThinkPads?  As an experiment, try setting the security level to "No Security" and see if you can get it working that way...

Hello Everyone, I am new here so please go easy on me.I just bought and X1 Carbon 5th Gen laptop c/w Thunderbolt 3.0 docking station.The problem that I have is that the docking station won't recognise any of the external screens that are connected.I am using two Acer screens (one is connected using HDMI port on the dock and the other one uisng Display port).I have tried by connecting just one screen but nothing.I can see that Thunderbolt software is installed and its connected to my laptop.The laptop will charge through the docking station and also the wireless mouse and keyboard will work fine through the dock.Lenovo recommended that i should update my drivers.So I installed Lenovo Companion from Windows store. But it won't update my system. After clicking on System Update, I will get an error message saying "There is a problem in reteriving new updates for your system.Please try again later".Hence I downloaded all the drivers from support website and installed them manually but my docking station is still not working with the external monitors.The monitors works fine when connected directly to the laptop using the HDMI cable. Thanks in advance for your help.

Received the Thunderbolt 3 dock today, though the display works fine, the dock/laptop won't recognize any external USB devices such as mouse. keyboard, webcam, etc. I tried installing the latest drivers to no avail, from: https://support.lenovo.com/us/en/solutions/acc100356 Anyone else havign this issue?

Machine model: 20HRCT01WW At seemingly random intervals the Dock stops working (for USB perphirals) and my wife has to move keyboard/mouse to the machine itself - defeating the purpose of a very expensive dock. Machine is fully up to date the current version of windows and all drivers (including the Thunderbolt dock). I would report this directly to support but Lenovo it won't allow to me register my wife's X1 with my account inspite of the fact that I'm the one who ordered it. Does the Thinkpad P51s support the Thinkpad Thunderbolt 3 Dock? I have the Thinkpad P51s with stock Windows 10 Pro and updated to latest drivers and Windows version and installed the latest Thinkpad Thunderbolt 3 Dock drivers. Attaching the Thunderbolt 3 Dock to the P51s as described in documentation, it charges the notebook, however, noting attached to the dock is recognized. I've tested with attaching USB flash drives, headphones, Ethernet, HDMI, and DP, but nothing is recognized nor are any warnings/errors displayed in Windows. While the Thinkpad Thunderbolt 3 Dock is listed as being compatible with the P51s and T570, the notebook order page does not list the Thunderbolt 3 Dock in any of the accessories lists. Lenovo Sales also confirmed that the Thunderbolt 3 Dock is fully compatible with the P51s.  However, I needed to purchase the Thunderbolt 3 Dock separately from the notebook order. What's going on? Has anybody successfully used the P51s or the T570 with the Thinkpad Thunderbolt 3 Dock? Or is this something I need to wait for full support via a future BIOS/driver update? Or perhaps my Thunderbolt 3 Dock is defective? Thanks,Boris

Is the new ThinkPad Thunderbolt 3 Dock compatible with P50? Dock details page (https://pcsupport.lenovo.com/cz/en/solutions/acc100356) only list P51s, but not P50. But P50 claims support for Thunderbold 3. If yes,  can I connect Ethernet LAN over the dock? And what driver I need to install?

Hello fellow users / Lenovo, In our office we have several X1 Carbons and several ThinkPad USB 3.0 Docks (0A33970) located all over the office. We typically bring our X1 Carbons around and use each other's Dock during the course of work. However, we recently face a problem with the Ethernet interface not working with other Docks, other than the Dock that the driver was installed with. Using other Docks, the Ethernet interface comes up as a generic Ethernet device with a yellow warning triangle inside Control Panel. Using the Dock that the driver was installed with, the Ethernet device works as normal. It should be pretty easy to replicate this behaviour, just get an X1 Carbon (fresh, Windows 8.1) and connect a USB 3.0 Dock to it, and install appropriate drivers.Verify that the Ethernet port works correctly. Next, disconnect the Dock and connect another Dock to the X1 Carbon. Observe that the Ethernet interface does not work, and see the yellow warning triangle icon under Control Panel. Uninstalling and Reinstalling the drivers with the new Dock doesn't work either. Only the Dock that the driver was originally installed with will work.

In the last month I purchased a Thinkpad X1 Yoga 2G and the Thuderbolt USB C dock. Since the USB C cable that comes with the dock is too short to allow the dock on the right and laptop on the left (in laptop mode), I put the notebook in tent mode and all works fine---except... Everytime I power up from hibernate it starts beeping about once a second and does not stop. I have to disconnect from the dock, flip it to laptop mode (this is where the beeping stops), return it to tent mode, and then plug the dock back in. It seems that Lenovo, like everybody else, is rushing things to market with plans to fix bugs later (maybe). Any thoughts I how to stop the beeping?  The first time it happened I closed all the apps to reboot and it still was beeping. Thanks.

Hello - I have a X1 Carbon with the ThinkPad USB 3.0 dock.  Everything worked great under Windows 8.1.  I would occassionally have an issue with the dock not coming online after resuming Win 8.1, but it was easy to fix by powering the dock on/off or rebooting. However since upgrading to Win 10, I have a very frustrating audio issue.  Application seem to have trouble picking between the sound device inside the laptop and the dock.  For example, I'll get an incoming call from Skype, and it will start the call on the laptop internal speakers, then say the "Realtek audio device is unavailable".  If I call the person back, it then completes the call and works fine through the dock audio device (which is what it should have done the first time). However the issue isn't only with Skype, it's with all apps.  For example, if I start Pandora in the Chrome browser, it will start playing the audio through the laptop speakers for about 1 second, then stop.  I then have to refresh the web page a few times to get it to start playing out of the dock sound device.  All the while, Windows is configured (and properly reports) the dock sound device as the default (which is what I want). I suspect this is an issue with the drivers for either the dock or the X1 not properly talking to Windows 10, but both are up to date, and either Lenovo or DisplayLink (who makes the dock drivers) have any noted issues with audio-switching. Has anyo... wait doesent' the docking station come with own power supply? if so then use that and not the laptop one since i'm quite sure it comes with own AC adapter so it can handle charge of laptop and powering the dock.

Hi, Everyone. Got me a nice little x270 to replace my old x201.  Happy enough with the machine, but getting it connected to my accessories (monitor, keyb, mouse, ethernet) is a bit of a chore. This machine appears to have a "proper" dock port on the bottom.  Is there a compatible ultradock available for the model 20HN x270?  By proper - I mean, Not USB.  A nice dock I can simply drop the machine into when I'm at the home office.. Thanks!

I have a simple question, Can I run 2 external monitors using the Ultrabase series 3 with the X230 docked and the lid open? My goal is to be able to see basically 3 displays. The main one would be the laptop and the other two extended monitors connected to the dock stations. One connected with VGA cable and the other with display port cable. Any help is appreciated.  Sebastiano

Got my X1 carbon, like it don't love it.  However using it on our wired network I'm getting around 20MB speeds copying files and my carbon becomes very copy when doing large 2GB file type copies. On my T420s with a "real" docking station I get around 150MB speeds copying the same file. No errors on our Cisco switches, seem speeds are locking in fine.  Is that simply the best I'm going to to over the USB 3.0 connecting to the SS port?  I can almost live with slow speeds but copy video during copies, no way. Am I missing something, doing something wrong, or this is what it is?  Sure hope not...

Having the exact same problem. Files that transfer instantly on other computer take upwards of 40-60 seconds on the X1 through the USB 3.0 dock.  We are using the most recent dock drivers as well as the most recent usb 3.0 drivers, so not sure what could be causing this problem. Thanks

not enough USB resources error with the docking station:::: with 90 watt AC Adapter

connected at the same time over the usb.3.0 port on the ThinkPad OneLink Pro Dock (EU) 4X10E52941  then 2 USB 3.0 2.5 inch hard drives with 1.0 Tb each ......usb 3.0 Powered over the One Link Pro Dock .....simultaneous use is impossible with 90 watt AC Adapter... my question is ...a 90 watt AC Adater should still be sufficient ....or not...has anyone ever tried with with 135 Watt or 170 Watt AC Adapter...starting power performance may be sufficient...
my opinion is that the starting power performance with 90 watt AC Adapter is not adequate enough...or is the problem maybe somewhere else...Operating system is Windows 8.1Enterprise and all drivers are up to date and also the Windows 8.1Enterprise..is up to date...

I'm trying to image a second generatoin X1 Carbon that also has a OneLinkPro dock attached via SCCM 2012 R2.The USB stick is plugged into the dock, as is Ethernet & power.When I boot into the preinstallation environment, I don't have an IP address.The USB stick is fine - works on all 26 other devices hereThe network cable is fine - I'm able to get an IP & image from other systemsI tried two OneLinkPro docks, same problem on bothIf I use the Ethernet adapter, it works fineI'm convinced its a driver issue at this point. I was directed to www.lenovo.com/onelinkdrivers to locate OneLink dock drivers, and I've downloaded the package.The downloaded EXE (tp_onelink_dock.exe) extracts to C:\SWTOOLS\DRIVERS\Dock by defaultIn C:\SWTOOLS\DRIVERS\Dock you have another EXE Setup_OneLink_Dock_Lenovo_v10826.exeThis immediately launches an installshield setup (run from %temp%)There no options to extract the drivers - it just installs the drivers, and none of the switches I've thrown at it have yielded any results.I found a data1.cab file but I can't seem to extract anything with 7Zip or expand How are folks with second gen X1 Carbons who use SCCM for OSD successfully imaging those machines with the OneLinkPro dock? Fauxlution:Install drivers on an x86 machineNavigate to C:\Program Files\Lenovo\Onelinkdock (or something like that)Grab the driver directories & save them elsewhereRepeat process for x64 machine because the installer will only install drivers for the architecture of the system its run on.  (x86 system = x86 drivers; x64 system = x64 drivers)Clean up the drivers (extra non-essential files in there)Import both sets of drivers into SCCMBake architecture specific Realtek drivers into boot imageCouldn't be simpler.

I have 20A7, since I received it a couple of months ago, it  had this problem. If I use sleep mode it never wakes up. Unless I disable usb3.0 mode in BIOS setup. In this case it goes to sleep and wakes up, but after waking it up the adaptive keys are gone and not functioning. It's speakers also doesn't work (mute) until the next reboot.

Hi All, I have my docking station set up to my new ThinkpadT510 and everything works, but after I put the computer to sleep in the docking station, I can not figure out how to wake it back up without having to open the lid of the computer.  Any ideas????  The instructions that come with the 433710U Thinkpad Mini Dock Series3 are just a bunch of diagrams, not much in the way of instructions and not everyone is a techie!!!  Thanks in advance, Utahtea

you can set the power button the dock to function as a wake computer button under the windows power manager section and thinkvantage power manager. Give that a try.

Hi All. I have a Thinkpad X1 Carbon 2nd Gen 2014 (20A7/20A8),  Win10 64bit, all drivers updated. The problem is that the Adaptive Keyboard always went off automately everytime I resume the ThinkPad from sleep.And it remains off (black) until I reboot the ThinkPad. Or turn off and on the ThinkPad. I have tried to replace my Adaptive Keyboard with another new spare part. But this problem remain unresolved.Could anyone give me some advice? Over the past several years there are many posts of users experiencing variations on this problem with X1 Carbon and X1 Yoga of various generations, including the latest ones (I provide a list below). That is, the systems often cannot come out of sleep mode in some way, shape, or form. I had this problem on my own brand-new X1 Carbon 5th Generation, right out of the box. In my instance, I noticed this issue in the following two scenarios: -After having gone in to sleep mode, once I opened the lid, or press power button once:power light goes from blinking to solid onscreen stays blank/blackseems that if the machine is going to be in the frozen state, keyboard presses do not "unsleep" it (which they normally would). Closing the lid causes the power light to go to solid on, but then opening it again does nothing.in a couple of rarer instances, the machine actually did come out of sleep but then instantly the screen froze (but this was quite uncommon, mostly it just wouldn't come out of sleep at all)-After passing the initial boot screen of Lenovo, the next part shows the Lenovo logo but without the swirling dots and is frozen (the power light would show on)Under both conditions: The power light is solid onThe keyboard lights functionality works: backlighting, FnLock light, mute lightSometimes you can hear the fan workingPlugging in to external display does not display anything on itThe only way to rectify is to do a hard shutdown by holding the power key With... I have had and still have several X1 Carbon's and X1 Yoga's and have not seen any of these problems. Do you have any thoughts on how to reproduce it?

Been going back and forth and can't seem to find a screen that can replace my Thinkpad x1 carbon 3460 1f4 screen. Have found one for the 3448. Don't know if they use the same screen and pins?  See photo for description of the replacement screen I'm looking at.

Question: thunderbolt dock

HP ZBook Dock with Thunderbolt 3 usb device issues. USB Keyboard randomly sends a stream of a repeated character.  I will be typing and mid worrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr d will get results like in the word above.  The inverse happens alot too, were it just drops a few characters i have typed. USB Mouse lag is horrible. Both devices will stop functioning, need to reboot the dock to recover them. Any one have any suggestions or which drivers are the most stable?

So I have a Precision 5510 laptop with Xeon processor, no 4K screen.  My question is about this thunderbolt dock TB16.  I have one HDMI out and was asked if I can make that work on 3 external monitors.  None are 4K.  Is that possible?  Can it function as extended desktop, not duplicated? And if so, is that 3 external plus laptop? Or is the laptop screen on of the 3?

I have a new ZBook G3 17" with ThunderBolt 3 dock station.I have install my laptop with boot up finger&password protection.I have connect display, keyboard and mouse to this dock.Every time  I bootup, I have to open laptop to insert access data.This look like a stupid solution compare the old HP docking station that I have on my HP 8760W where dockingstation are working from first second and I can insert my access data (password) without opening lid.There are any solution to this problem ?I have also another problem. On the old PC was possible create a protected area of HD using a little part of it withHP ProtectTools. This SW is not possible to install on ZBook G3.I don't found any solution to create it. I have a Yoga 370 (Win10) and a Thunderbolt 3 dock & Thinkpad USB-C dock and i cannot get them to play nice. I am using the USB-C cord on both devices, it transmits video and power but not USB or Ethernet. I have downloaded drivers and firmware from Lenovo and still no luck, the computer does not see the dock BUT the video and power are there. I changed my BIOS settings per the firm ware update well and no luck. any help would be much appreciated!

I want to buy the Lenovo Yoga 920 (i7 with 16 GB) and I?m used to work with 3 external full HD Monitors. Since it has 2 Thunderbolt ports, it looks like the Thunderbolt 3 Dock may work with the 920. However, it is not listed on the compability list for the dock. Therefore: are the dock and the 920 working together?

Love the concept of the thunderbolt 3 dock, can't fathom how it was designed though.  On my zBook 15 G3, the power and thunderbolt ports are on the right side of the laptop.  The dock has the cable port on the left rear side, completely crossing over all the ports when you put the dock on a desk with the back facing away from  you.  Then they ship a cable that is barely long enough to put the dock directly behind the laptop and connect it.   Where do I buy a longer cable HP, please!

As the only docking solution available and moving from a more traditional dock, its less than suitable.  HP needs to make a longer cable and the end that connects to the laptop should be at a right angle.  The cable is so stiff and thick it takes nearly 4" to make the turn.  HP makes it impossible to find this out how long the cable is with out purchasing and at that point your stuck with it.  Hardly a customer satisfaction issue they should want to propigate!

Hi allWell we all now about the fan issue which is much better since the last BIOS update.Nevertheless I have sometimes fluctuation fan noise, although there is no load. This is mainly when the notebook is at the thunderbolt docking station.I found out, that as soon as I connect my notebook to the docking station more or less all app-processes suddenly move over and start running on the GPU. The CPU has virtually no load.Why do all processes start to run on GPU when the notebook is connected to the dock? Is this an issue or is there a good reason for this behaviour?My Notebook and Windos has the latest drivers/bios and updates installed.Regards,Sebastian

I recently purchased a Dell Thunderbolt dock for my Precision 3520. I hooked up my Logitech universal receiver to the Thunderbolt dock. The mouse and keyboard have significant lags (the keyboard repeats itself periodically). As soon as I move the receiver back to the laptop, the lags disappear. The problem is so bad that the mouse and keyboard are basically unusable when plugged into the Thunderbolt dock.

Has anyone else experienced this issue with either a Dell or other brand Thunderbolt dock? Have you been able to resolve it?

The Thunderbolt is for displays and such, not for the keyboard or mouse. Having the USB-C ports there are for faster speeds to SSD's, etc.. You do not need it if you are not going to use 4K/UHD displays, which is what the technology ws created for.

Sometime soon USB may go away if Apple keeps pushing the Beige Box manufacturers to go that route, which will never happen, because the Beige Box manufacturers thought that Firewire was a joke and now we do not see it used much anymore.

As for lags, check the drivers and try to keep the Keyboard and mouse attached to the physical computer, not a dock that is used for 4k tv's.

Hi,I have a Thinkpad P50 and today my Dell Thunderbolt Dock arrived.Unfortunately, it doesn't work  (= it is not recognized in any way), although Dell specifically says that the dock also works with non-Dell Thunderbolt 3 machines. I have installed the Thunderbolt software from the P50's driver site and updated to BIOS 1.17.Lenovo released an "Intel Alpine Ridge Thunderbolt Firmware" for the P70. But there's no such firmware update on the P50's site, just the Intel Thunderbolt Software from November.The 1.17 UEFI/BIOS Update says it fixed a Thunderbolt issue, but apparently not mine Has anyone ever gotten some Thunderbolt 3 device working on the P50? I just hope this will be fixed soon, because the Thunderbolt dock seems to be the only convenient way to drive three 4K displays with the P50 (2 via Thunderbolt 3, 1 via miniDP).

I just picked up the TB3 dock and all seems to be working, however it is not charging my laptop using the included Thunderbolt/Power combo cable. The power light shows on the dock, and connected devices work on laptop, but no power. Any ideas?

I've set up my Thunderbolt 3 dock. I notice in the status, it shows "94% available (plugged in, not charging)". It has been like this for the past two days. Does the battery have to reach a certain threshold, before charging? Or is this normal? My last dock, with the 8570W would always charge to 100%.

The thunderbolt dock was working.  I was gone for a week.  Came back and plugged laptop into dock.  No longer works.   The dock will charge the laptop, but none of the devices are recognized. Drivers are up to date.

I have ethernet issues with my Thunderbolt 3 dock 150W and my Zbook 15G3, running on windows 7 / 64 bit. I had many issues before with the system after a BIOS update (slow performance, usb poorts that would't work, windows that would not download updates, ect.). I read many postst with similar problems. The hardware was exchanged by HP but the problems remained and I was left alone to install the BIOS and updates. Thank you HP!After a long period of fiddeling I got everything back to work. Exept for the ethernet connection on the thunderbolt dock. Somehow the drivers are not inatlled / available. The ethernet connection / WLAN on the laptop work fine, but not on the dock. I don't know where to find the right drivers / how to install them. Who can help?

I have the Zbook 15 G3 Mobile Workstation using the Zbook Thunderbolt 3 dock: http://www8.hp.com/us/en/workstations/zbook-dock.html I am sending this on the Zbook connected to the dock using its gigabit ethernet port. HP Support Assistant provided all the drivers needed for the dock. Here is the screenshot of my device manager:    What does your device manager look like under network devices? The Intel ethernet is the built in and the Broadcom NetXtreme is the ethernet in the dock. HP has drivers for both on the support page for Windows 10 64 bit under the Zbook G3 Home page.  I did have a bit of a struggle initially getting the dock to work but I went into the BIOS and disabled all Thunderbolt security settings. I have a HP Zbook Thunderbolt 3 Dock, 150W (part number p5q58aa#aba).  It is connected to an HP Zbook Studio G3 running an intel core i7-6700HQ CPU. I have two HP EliteDisplay E231i displays connected to the display port ports on the dock, and am also using the Zbook's own display.   Intermittently, the displays will go black for a few minutes then turn back on.  Also, intermittently the dock will seem to disconnect and I loose my displays as well as the ethernet on the dock.  When this occurs I must restart to restore dock functionality. I have the latest driver (ASMedia eXtensible Host Controller (xHCI) Driver 1.16.38.1 Rev.A) and firmware (ASMedia ASM1042A Firmware Update for HP Thunderbolt 3 Dock 131025.10.11.23 Rev.A). Any tips as to how I can get more consistent performance out of this dock?  It is kind ruining the experience of an otherwise fantastic notebook.

hello, we have a brand new spectre. first the device is amazing, i love it. but we have the following problem with the  HP Elite Thunderbold 3 65W Dock, if the Spectre is connected over Thunderbold Cable and on the Dock with Thunderbolt/Power combination cable connector, One 4.5mm power input every Device is working, Network is working, USB, both Display Ports are working, but the Spectre does not charge. i have installed the newest FIrmware Update  for the Thunderbold Dock Driver and i have updated BIOS, Intel Thunderbold Drivers on the Spectre. We have changed also the Thunderbolt 3 Dock with an new one, same problem.  one thing, on the front the light is off and i cannot turn on the spectre with the button.  any ideas, hints??? and yes i have connected the spectre over one of the 2 thunderbold ports, because the spectre has only 3 usb-c ports but 2 of them have thunderbold technology. i see also that the tb3 dock is recognized in windows at the thunderbold software.  kind regards, sebastian

I can't update my dock since it gives an error every time I try to update. I tried manual updates but BIOS files never show up, I think the problem lies with my service code not being in the system.
I tried entering the service tag and express service tag but it says it's not a valid product. If I provide the service tag and express service tag on this forum, would it be entered in the system so to speak? I also get critical updates and when I click update, an error occurs so my dock is not in sync with my XPS in terms of drivers. When I try to do manual updates, I'm only given 3 files and can't find bios files anywhere.

everybody.I'm trying to find the correct thunderbolt 3 dock station for my new Specter x360 . I noticed that HP has 2 dock stations offered for the Zbook. However, the wire from the dock station to the laptop is a dual USB-C & power jack.1. If I will buy a standalone thunderbolt cable, will it work with my Specter x360 and the Zbook dock ?2. I noticed there are 2 models of the Zbook dock : 150W and 200W . Which one should I get, if at all?Thanks for your help!

I just installed the latest set of drivers. The dock still does not connect to my XPS 15- 9550.
This process has gone on for two months.

Return it. No amount of software/firmware updates is going to make this device good. It has several hardware issues.

If I put my computer in "Sleep" mode and turn it back on, I can never get the dock to work again. I have tried to upgrade BIOS and drivers as described in several posts, but it doesn't work. The only working solution is to restart the computer. Has anyone got the same problem?

I just received my HP ZBook Studio and Thunderbolt Dock. I updated all drivers and BIOS. However, there is no internet connection through ethernet when I connect RJ45 to the dock. Am I missing something? Is it possible to have hardware related problem? Thanks,

I am posting this through a Zbook G3 connected to a Thunderbolt dock with ethernet connected to the dock ethernet. Did you specifically install the package of dock drivers? Are you seeing crippled devices in device manager?

With the issues of USB port enumeration apparently resolved, I've started rolling out zBook 15 G3s to our users.  I've discovered in doing so that the dock does not appear to support Wake-on-LAN.  Is there an option to enable this functionality or perhaps is this functionality on the roadmap to be added in a future firmare release? Thanks, Stan

Hey There We have bought 15 Studio G3s and docks to go with them We have ran into issues with about 40% of the docks. Not sure if its the docks or laptops causing the issues. One laptop tries 3 diffrent docks, USB and Ethernet wont work. Another laptop will randomly BSOD, if the dock is even touched it will BSOD as well. I've gone though all the posts about these issues from last summer but nothing really seems to help. Is there a newer fix that I am missing somewhere? Thanks Josh

Issue 1I purchased the ZBook Studio G3 + 2 months wait on the Thunderbolt 3 Dock to primarily connect 2 4K Samsung monitors.  When connected via the display port one will display at 4k while the other will only display @ 2560X1440.  I had bought a a couple of CableMatters thunderbolt 3 X display port adapters while waiting on the dock.  If I plug one of the monitors in using the adapter and the other into the display port both will display 4K.Anybody else having this issue? Issue 2After the computer goes to sleep only one monitor will wake up.  The NVDIA control panel still shows both connected.  Only way to get the second monitor awake is to shutdown and reboot. Issue 3I have the displays configured to go blank after 1 hour.  Once this occurs and I enter my password all of my open programs are displayed on one screen rather than on both.  This would be normal if you have undocked and re-docked a laptop. Issue 4If the laptop is opened while docked. One display goes blank and one is duplicated with the laptop screen.  This is not typical docked behavior.  I moved from an  Elitebook 8540W with dock.  I'm really questioning my whether this was an upgrade.

Hi Issue: Thinkpad X1 Carbon 5th Gen black screen / 'screen off' on resume from sleep I know this issue has been posted about several times regarding the X1 series but .... none of those threads seem to have any kind of answer to this problem. This seems like quite a horrendous issue for a +1500 to have !! Constantly 'hard rebooting' and losing all my open work is seriously seriously annoying. Please note: My drivers are 100% up to date based on Lenovo's own update software. I have all official Windows 10 updates issued to date (21 aug 17). These are the patterns I've noticed: - It doesn't always replicate the same behaviour: after resume from sleep sometimes it's 'black' and other times it's fine. I'd say 66% of the 'lid openings' it's OK but 33% of cases it's not.- I've found that if I shut the lid again and reopen (often 3 or more times and waiting 30+ seconds on each open then 30+ seconds on each close) then I can eventually 'force' it to turn the screen on.- If I 'manually' set the unit to sleep from the start menu rather than just closing the lid, I'm pretty certain that it *does not* exhibit this problem. I'll be 100% certain once I've tried this a few more times.-  I've removed all USB devices from the laptop one-by-one and waited for the problem to reoccur thus ruling out any single or combination of USB devices.- I have the 'lock screen' shown when it does successfully resume from sleep. - The screen 'blackness' looks t... I contacted Lenovol support and they send me a replacement unit. The the replacement unit has the same problem. Thinkpad Thunderbolt 3 docking station does not charge Thinkpad P51 battery.  I need to plug in the power adapter for both docking station and notebook.  Does anybody have similiar problem? 

Answer:Thinkpad Thunderbolt 3 docking station does not charge Thinkpad P51 battery.

Everbody's p51 would be the same.  The thunderbolt port won't work as a charging port.  The thunderbolt specs specify 100w max.  That's not enough.  Your thunderbolt port is not for charging.  To charge via the dock, you need a workstation dock, not a thunderbolt dock.  A thinderbolt dock can charge things like an x1 carbon (5th gen) or x1 yoga (2nd gen)

Has anyone seen the Acer Thunderbolt 3 Graphics dock outside of youtube videos?   Id read it was supposed to be available in april but haven't seen it anywhere in retail or online.  I would buy an r7-372t and the graphics dock in a heartbeat if it was available to buy.    Unfortunately my desktop (XPS 2710 dell) ate itself (corrupted bios from just running Win10... happened to lots of people and they aren't happy but I digress...  so while I was looking for a portable... now I'm looking for something that can double as desktop and the graphic dock makes that work for me...   if they don't get it out soon I'm going to need to buy something else... unfortunately.

Hello, Graphics works fine on my ZBook G3 on built-in screen as well as I connect monitor directly to laptop over HDMI. When I use TB3 dock though perfomance is very sluggish. It appears that frame rate is like 5 fms or so. I have run HP support assistance and it installed all latest everything but video perfomance is super choopy and laggy.What do I do next? G

I got the Thunderbolt Dock with my Zbook 15 and it will not boot connected to the dock. I have to disconnect the dock, open it up, turn it on and get it booted into windows. Then I can connect the dock and close the lid and my screens and everything work fine. It seems like the Windows will recognize the dock but the Bios doesn't. Please help!!! This is driving me crazy LOL. Thanks

Everytime I dock/undock the by plugging in or unplugging the connecter my office applications (outlook, powepoint, word) hang and need to be restarted causing me to lose work. How do I get around this problem, its frustrating? This is my second dock and I have the same problem. Andy

We received a new 5510 laptop that works great on its own, but when adding in the thunderbolt dock we experience odd issues

1. If the laptop lid is closed while connected to thunderbolt, the laptop will hang at the Dell bios screen.  If the lid is open while power turned on, the laptop boots up fine.  However, the BIOS screen is still not visible on the external monitors, only when the OS has loaded
2. Dell shipped a new dock which had no differnce, and then I uninstalled every single driver and downloaded/installed in order from Dell's website, including updated Thunderbolt firmware and BIOs

The laptop is running Windows 10 x64

2 things I have noticed:
1. In device manager, the Thunderbolt Controller 1575 is hidden.  Viewing hidden devices and opening this controller states:
"Currently, this hardware device is not connected to the computer (Code 45)"  The resources tab states that there is a problem with the device
Of course, reconnecting makes no difference.  I have also unplugged all peripherals from the dock to make sure there was not a conflict
Second, in device manager, there is no listing (visible or invisible) for  ASMedia USB 3.0 Extended Host Controller Driver for Dell Thunderbolt Dock, regardless of uninstalling it through Add/Remove Programs and re-installing.
One more note - I am able to work normally after booting with the lid open successfully and then closing the lid.

I have the exact same symptoms with the same hardware (precision 5510 & WD15). the computer will not POST when it is either started or restarted with the built-in display closed. If the lid is open... all is fine. Ohh.. and when you do try to start/restart with the lid closed, i get a 2 orange, 7 white blink code. it will continue to repeat this until I open the lid and press the power button. This will then cause the unit to successfully POST and boot up.
I'm running Windows 8.1, and have installed all available dell updates as of March 28th, 2016

So I have got the 65W Thunderbolt 3 dock. And it works great. The one issue I have is when I plug in devices in the USB ports which requires a bit of power, like charing the wireless mouse, or connect a phone etc. The dock makes a very annoying high pitched noise. Not loud but due to the frequency its certainly audible.  The frequuency varies as well, so its not stable, making it even more noticable. The noise varies a bit depending on the ports used. Slightly less noise with the phone using the USB behind with the lightning/charging symbol next to it. Is it a known / common fault? or should I maybe send it back and another unit? (will take me at least two weeks ) Kenneth

I have an HP Zbook Thunderbolt 3 dock on my HPZbook G3.  I recently updated the BIOS and firmware to the latest version to fix other "dock" issues.  Am now at the latest for both.  The dual monitors and ethernet over the Thunderbolt 3 work, but none of the USB ports are active. I'm certain the USB ports work, becuase they used to work prior to the BIOS and firmware update.  Neither keyboard, mouse, or USB memory work in the dock. I've tried going to HP support and installing any of the updates with USB in it, but it hasn't worked.  I have a workaround--just plugging in to the notebook directly, but would like to get my dock fully functional. The Device manager doesn't show any devices with issues.  I'll try to update, but I don't know which one to look at.

Having an issues which I do not think anyone has posted about. If anyone has knowledge about the following please assist!

I have a Dell xps15 (9550) and recently purchased a Caldigit Thunderbolt 2 Docking Station (TS2) in order to connect my Thunderbolt soundcard to my xps. The xps is Thunderbolt 3 tech so i had to purchase a Startech Thunderbolt 3 to thunderbolt 1/2 adapter which from what I can see is pretty much the only one available on the market. 

So items in my chain... Dell XPS 15 - Startech Tb3 to T1/2 Adapter - Caldigit TS2 Dock - Focurite 8preX Soundcard (links to products at bottom)

So my issue is as follows; The XPS recognises the Docking Station being plugged in. I was asked the first time whether I wanted the XPS to recognise the Dock everytime its plugged in. I selected YES. Then the trackpad froze. Even upon unplugging the Dock the trackpad is still frozen. The keyboard works fine. 
I also tried to connect a hard drive to the Dock to see whether it's recognized.... Nothing. No reaction. 
The only way to take the XPS out of this trance is to hard reset (hold down power button) on the xps. A restart sends it into a never ending cycle. 
I believe I've installed all the necessary BIOS updates so I'm a bit perplexed here.

I am using a Jabra UC Voice 550 Duo USB headset (Skype model) with Windows 7, for business communication. Or, at least, that was the intent: The reality is that if I use any ports on the docking station, I lose connectivity in the middle of a call. Several Skype chats started out okay, and then the microphone on my end simply stopped working (I could still hear the other party.) Also playing audio (Youtube via Google Chrome) has also resulted in eventual loss of playback. I have had to plug the USB headset directly into the laptop, in order to obtain glitch-free audio (via the on-board Intel USB root hub). The ASMedia USB root hub in the Thunderbolt docking station seems to be the culprit: I have two HP Z24n monitors plugged in via DisplayPort, and it makes no difference if I use USB ports on the monitor vs. directly plugging the headset into the Thunderbolt docking station itself. Since the laptop has limited USB ports, I would like a solution to this problem, please. The ASMedia root hub is running on driver version 1.16.33.1, dated 04.02.2016. One last thing: I got driver software for my Z24n monitors on CD-ROM, but hardly any notebooks are shipped with CD/DVD drives these days - and I could not find an online copy of the software, so I could install the display profiles.

Unfortunately I still haven't resolved the issue with my laptop. It's rather frustrating because we have an identical laptop and hardware setup with one of my colleagues and his works fine. No combination of BIOS update software uninstall and reinstall has resolved this issue. It's a shame because I have been accustomed to using the docking station for my older Compaq based laptop / Workstation and I really do love the feature.

hey all,  the connection about notebook and thunderbolt didn't recognize properly. it's not a question about missing drivers or firmware. if i work in the office everything is fine. let explain the situation. configuration:zbook 15 g3, thunderbolt 3 Dock, Screen Z24n linked with display port cable, keyboard und else are connected to the docking. normally, when i come to work to the office i start up with pushing the power-on button on the thunderbolt Dock and everthing work fine. the os is starting, my screen goes on, keyboard and mouse etc. is working. Ok, no problem if all components is fixed installed on the office. if i leave the office with the notebook and work offline, there is also no problem with it. now, when i came back to the office and connect again with the dock (power, usb-c) and push the power button on the dock to start windows 10, i did't get a screen on Z24n after that. i just wait and wait, but no screen on the Z24n to logon. i opened the notebook cover and saw the windows came up properly with the logon screen. after that i closed the cover and unplug/plug the Docking cable again. about 15 seconds later the screen came up (Z24n) with the windows logon image. my assessment: the recognition about dock/notebook failed after offline working. this occurs only if i start the notebook without connection to the dock. i cant localize the problem till weeks. thanks for any helprobert

I have exactly this issue (exame same symptoms) with a G17.Happens even if there are no peripherals attached to the docket. Was on .09 of the BIOS, upgraded to latest, no change. Have updated all HP and Intel drivers and utilities. Also removed graphics drivers in safe mode and reinstalled clean, no change, and performed an sfc /scannow.Was working fine week before last, no idea what changed to cause this.

HiI just would like a description and confirmation on what the following options do under the Thunderbolt 3 dock in the Bios for this series laptop I tested the option "No security" and this seems to bypass the authentication pop up when logged into Windows when plugging in the Thunderbolt 3 dock. So essentially it enables network ethernet connection to work straight away Can someone tell me what the other options do?

Hi Drekko,Warm Greetings & welcome to Lenovo Community, happy to have you here.As I understand that you have query regarding Wake by Thunderbolt options in BIOS Setup for ThinkPad T470s.
The following are the Security options for Thunderbolt devices as per user guide

No Security: Allow Thunderbolt devices to be connected automatically.
User Authorization: Allow Thunderbolt devices to be connected after user authorization.
Secure Connect: Allow Thunderbolt devices to be connected with a saved key that has been approved by the user.
Display Port and USB: Allow only DisplayPort-compatible devices and USB devices to be connected. Thunderbolt devices are not allowed to be connected

Hi 
I Just bought TB15 and stated using it.
The problem, however, is that my XPS 13 becomes pretty hot when it is connected to the dock.
It becomes hot and operates fan even for normal light uses like web surfing or listening music.
Is it normal issue that all the user have or abnormal?

Additionally, when i connect intel realsense camera to TB15, all devices connected to TB15 is disabled and does not work. The laptop must be restarted to be operated normally.

Hi All Could really do with some help on this. We are gonig to be using the HP Elite Thunderbolt 3 Docking Station with our laptops. The issue I am finding at present is that you have to authorise for use on each laptop. This requires Admin Rights, something that we are no going to give our End Users. According to the manual located at: http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c05141189, on page 5, "Note: You must be logged on as an administrator on the computer connected to the dock. To enable a non-administrator user to select OK, enter the non-administrator registry key. Contact your HP Technical Consultant for this key." Does anybody have any idea what the key is? Kind Regards

Hi everybody.I'm trying to find the correct thunderbolt 3 dock station for my new Specter x360 . I noticed that HP has 2 dock stations offered for the Zbook. However, the wire from the dock station to the laptop is a dual USB-C & power jack.  1. If I will buy a standalone thunderbolt cable, will it work with my Specter x360  and the Zbook dock ?2. I noticed there are 2 models of the Zbook dock : 150W and 200W . Which one should I get, if at all? Thanks for your help!

After a long series op updates and firware upgrades we still encounter much trouble with the HP Thunderbolt Dock's Recently (7-2-2017) we installed a new HP ZBook G3. We always reinstall our ZBook G3's with a 'clean installation' of Windows 10 and the required HP Drivers. After adding de required software on this laptop our nightmare begins... Unable to attach usb keyboard or mouse on the Thunderbolt Dock and after rebooting a few times even windows crashes.Once you detach the dock,the coputer will eventually start again and will work as it should.Any attempt to unload update drivers and reinstall have no effect. After contacting HP support we received a link Troubleshoot Thunderbolt 3 Dock.In this document they descrbe a specific order in which to install you drivers. Since we already tried this in all our previous problems with the dock, i was getting somewhat despirate...Untill yesterday where i stumbled upon a message on the HP forum including the use of Citrix Client Software which happens to be so in our case. After a clean installtion of Windows 10 and installing the drivers in the required order like described in the Thoubleshooting documentation the Zbook and thunderbolt dock both work fine.Then i installed the citrix receiver 4.6 software and al my troubles were back after a reboot. I removed the Citrix Client and now everything works perfectly. The next challence is to get Citrix working again........... I have three ZBook 17 G3 that I cannot get a Thunderbolt dock installed correctly on. The first does not seem to want to install the thunderbolt driver, so that one's fun. The other two are having a different issue entirely. I have read multiple threads here about similar issues, and none have offered a solution for my situation.I have tried the latest BIOS, I have tried an older BIOS, I have downloaded the drivers and firmware(which won't install because it doesn't detect the dock) Whenever I plug the dock in, Windows installs the drevices, but gets stuck and winds up with a "Base System Device" that it cannot find a driver for. I have tried three different docks, and three different cables. All have the exact same result. Is there an obscure driver that I need to download to install that is not obvious in all of my searching? Any questions or clarifications, I'm happy to respond. -Keith

I recently (yesterday, 16/08/16) started experiencing the dreaded Blue Screen of Death whenever my laptop is connected to my HP Elite Thunderbolt 3 Dock. The machine is a HP ZBook 15 G3. It has been connected to this dock for over a month without this issue. I'm not sure why the sudden issue as I don't recall any updates or new software prior to this happening. The dock is connected to 2x monitors via HDMI cables, and an ethernet cable. I connect a wireless mouse and keyboard to a USB3 port on the laptop. If the dock is connected to the laptop on startup, it reaches the login screen before BSOD. If I start without it connected, it will BSOD a few seconds after connecting the dock. It never gets to the point where the monitors display anything. It can boot with the dock connected in Safe Mode, as this seems to disable it from working. I have updated all drivers and the BIOS (including downloading the Softpaq Download Manager) but there has been no change. I've also updated the NVIDIA drivers to the latest version without change. What should I do next to solve the issue?

I would personally try isolating the culprit, then go from there: 1) remove 1 monitor from the dock, then test2) remove ethernet from the dock, then test3) remove the last monitor and hook it directly to the laptop, so the dock is attached with nothing to it, then test4) I have my dock set to "Always Connect" in the thunderbolt software, not sure if that helps any.

I seem to be having a problem with my Yoga 720 15" and the Lenovo Thunderbolt 3 Dock.    Every once in a while the screens blank out and then return.   Sometimes I get a Topology Has Changed message when this happens and all my windows scramble.   Sometimes they all go to the laptop and sometimes they dispurse amongst my two monitors. Anyone else experience problems with this configuration? All of my drivers are updated except BIOS because apparently it does not like the fact that I installed my own version of Windows 10 instead of leaving the one that came with it.....but that is another issue. I could not find anything regarding updating the Thunderbolt 3 Dock firmware.    Here is what I have on my Thunderbolt driver:

I'd like to know how to wake a T520 connected to Mini Dock (type 4338). I have a basic USB mouse (wired) connected directly to the dock.  I've verified all of the items in Device Manager (mice and USB ports) are enabled for "waking the computer".In the article below, Lenovo says it's not possible to wake it by connecting directly to the dock....they say it's "not a limitation of the dock"... but "by design". Of, course that's the line all companies say now a days. T530 with Win7.Dock - Minidock series 3 with WD My Passport USB HDD connected to it.After restart or sleep or hibernate my laptop asks for security pin (before loading windows) and then display (internal or external) goes black and nothing happens only battery indicator and wireless indicator are lightning.If WD My Passport is not connected to dock, then system starts up normally.

I?m sorry to hear that you are facing the issue with Blank screen on sleep mode on ThinkPad T530.
 
Please check with updating Chipset driver.
Uninstall current Graphic driver and download and install latest driver.
If the system is shipped with fingerprint reader, please check with updating the driver for that.
 
If the issue still persists after performing above troubleshooting steps, I suggest you to check with updating BIOS.

Hello everyone,
I was inspired to write this post because I see a lot of confusion about USB-C and Thunderbolt in general, in particular about limitations, such as “Why can I get 4K @ 60 Hz out of a USB-C to HDMI/DP adapter but not out of a USB-C dock that has those same outputs?”, so I figured I’d explain how USB-C and Thunderbolt work in the hopes that it would help make sense of it all.
The USB-C connector is a very interesting and capable design. The focus for our purposes here is that it has 4 pairs of pins that can be used for various types of traffic in various combinations. I’m going to call each of these 4 pairs a “lane” from here on. And since one of the possible uses for these lanes is DisplayPort traffic, another key bit of information to clarify upfront is that DisplayPort is also divided into lanes; it has been from the beginning. A full-bandwidth DisplayPort connection has always been defined as 4 lanes (all carried on a single cable), so when people refer to DisplayPort 1.2 being capable of 4K @ 60 Hz, for example, what they technically mean is 4 lanes of DP 1.2 being capable of that type of output. So, each of these multi-purpose “lanes” in a USB-C connector is capable of carrying any of these types of traffic: - USB 3.1 Gen 2 transmit (abbreviated Tx from here on) - USB 3.1 Gen 2 receive (abbreviated Rx from here on) - DisplayPort 1.2 lane (if wired to the GPU – and again, each lane is 25% of a full-band... Hello,
My XPS 13 crashes each time I try to connect the dock with Intel Thunderbolt program. I have updated the BIOS, and did all the firmwares and drivers listed in TB16 installation. 
What shall I do?

Which version of the XPS 13 do you have?
Did the software and Firmware update install normally without the Dock attached?
Have you tried running the Dock without any outputs connected?
Did you get any popups related to allowing certain connected devices?
Look in the Settings and Details to see what TB controller you are using and if it does not show as Unknown.
