Acer laptop with HEADSET jack does not recognize my headset

Question: Acer laptop with HEADSET jack does not recognize my headset

I have an Acer Aspire V 15 (V5-591G-55pv) laptop. The laptop has a HEADSET jack (it shows a little symbol next to it referring to a headset with mic and headphone) and i have a headset that has 2 wires. 1 is for the headphones and the other is for the microphone, so i am using a headset adapter that came with the headset itself. I have used the microphone and the headset adapter on my PS4 controller and it works so the microphone is not defected. my computer does not detect my headphones but still plays audio through it, and the microphone is not detected. PLEASE HELP!!!!!!

Preferred Solution: Acer laptop with HEADSET jack does not recognize my headset

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi,I'm trying to use my LifeChat LX 2000 headset with the Yoga 13's combi jack. The LX2000 has separate plugs for mic and headphone. I bought a standard adapter to convert this into the required combi jack, but only the headphones work. The mic is not recognized. I've already uninstalled and reinstalled the conexant driver and replaced the adapter with a new one. No change. The headset works on other computers with split jacks. Any thoughts?I know that there is the option of USB headsets, but since I already own the LX2000 and would prefer to not block another precious USB slot, I'd prefer using the available combi jack - as that's what the jack should be there for...Thanks,Jan

Hi, i just bought a headset yesterday and realised it requires 2 jacks while my laptop (G410) only support 1. I am not sure which splitter or adapter i need to be able to use BOTH the mic and the audio while skyping. I bought a cheap one but i only could listen to the audio but the mic doesnt work at all. Found this online: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004SP0WAQ?pldnSite=1 , but I am not sure whether if it is the correct one. Please help me with finding the right splittle/adapter. Thanks.. Edit: I've placed an order for a cheap USB Sound Card on Ebay. Not sure whether it will work or not. But.. pray.

Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!

If it is like this one

This will surely work as it is an external Audio Device Already.
This act as a different sound card connected externally through a USB.
This will 100% work on your system.

My 510 had two jacks, but my 520 only has one. I want to use the microphone on my headset...even if I cannot use the headset speakers at the same time. How do I get my laptop to switch from the built-in microphone to the headset microphone? The built-in picks up too much surrounding noise. Thank you. Abigail

Answer:How do I get my two jack headset microphone to work with a single jack?

Dear AbigailCW, I'm afraid this won't work. Two jacks, which used to be a standard on older PCs, served as output for audio and input for mic, simply put, audio went out, voice went in via your mic. This has been changed now due to recent trends and can be annoying for most of the users.  I solved this issue by buying a USB soundcard with these two inputs and it cost me approximately 10 USD. As the USB soundcards provides additional gain boost as well, I have better sound now than ever. Might be worth a shot. Best regards.

Question: headset mic jack

When I record system audio through Camtasia I get very tinny, hollow-sounding sound. This never happened on my HP Envy, and the settings are identical. My Envy didn't have a dual purpose headset/mic jack and I suspect this is the source of the problem . When I plug in headphones I get perfect recordings, when the headset is unplugged I get hollow, tinny sound as if a mic is open somewhere. I'm recording system audio, mind you. Any help would be appreciated. I love the idea of Sprout but it has given me endless headaches. ..

I have a pair of Astro A40's with no mixamp so theres a cord that runs from the headsetto a splitter for the mic jack(pink) and line-out jack(green) and when i plug them into the corresponding ports in the backo of my computer, it won't even recognize that they are there, so i tried plugging them into the front headset and mic ports and it will recognize them but i won't hear any sound and i will keep getting a windows alert in the bottom right corner that says "you have plugged a device into the audio jack" and "you have unplugged a device from the audio jack" repeatedly. I updated my drivers for my audio card(realtek) and even took apart my computer to see if it was an issue with the actual jacks or the motherboard but everything looked good and hooked up properly, i don't know what to try from here. Hello,

I have a regular headset, and I bought 2 adapters: a 3.5mm female - usb female and a usb male-usb male.
When I bought this i thought about plugging my headset into the adapter and the double male usb, so I could listen to music in my headset while having them plugged into the USB port. Sadly, it doesn't work. I don't know if I have to install something, but when I plug everything in all I hear is noise from the left part of my headset.

I am using this (or trying to) use this configuration because my pc's 3.5mm jack doesn't work.

Can anyone please help me?

Thank you in advance,
loismen

A few hours my headset mic stopped working on my computer and stopped picking up sound from me. It wasn't the mic's problem as it worked on another pc but not mine and was not working with Skype or any recording program. I have uninstalled the ITD Driver, loaded defaults, enabled the device and checked the volume settings with nothing fixing this problem. I am on a HP Pavilion DV7 Laptop running Windows 7 64 bit. The weird part about this is that my mic was working fine a few hours ago and then when I decided to use it again it just stopped. When I go to sound options and try to put in the headset jack in the side, the green bars light up to show that the jack is inserted, but when I talk it takes in nothing. I have tried almost everything including restoring the system to an earlier date and at this point have no idea what to do.

Help is greatly appreciate thank you!

Answer:Headset Mic Jack not working

Some things to check... 1. Doesn't your laptop have a built in mic? If so, see if that works. That may help narrow things down as to whether it is all audio inputs not working or just your headset input 2. Check Control Panel Device Manager to make sure you don't have any yellow exclamation points indicating a driver not installed correctly. 3. Check Control Panel, Hardware and Sound, Sound, Manage audio devices, to make sure the correct device is showing up, selected, and configured.

Phones and tablets use one plug for the two audio outputs and the microphone input. The lowest cost way is to just get a pair of bargain headphones the have the plug your want. And use a separate microphone. But if you insist.Earbud to Laptop adapter.

So this started about 4 days ago, but I'll start a little before then just incase there was something I may have missed.

I had my PC (custom built) working great, headset worked great - sound was crystal clear.

My hard drive failed, so I reformatted and re-installed winXP. HD works great now but my HDD light wasn't working - I switched my 300w power supply out for a 550w power supply and all the lights/fans/whatever work great now.

PC worked fine for a couple of days, and then I turn on my speakers to hear the loudest most annoying static in the world. I unplugged the headset, speakers, AC adapter, everything and realized that when my mic jack wasn't in the sound card, it was fine - when the mic jack was in the sound card, it was horrible again.

My PC case has a speaker/mic port up front - so I opened up my computer, put all the pins where they belong (according to the manufacturer's manual) and tried the front ports - same exact thing. Works great until the mic is plugged in.

I then thought maybe my 550w was creating too much electromagnetic whatever, so I switched back to my 300w (bye bye cool lights... *sniff*).

Guess what? Still has static. I've tried other headsets, and there's still static - and I've tried these headsets in another computer and they work great. Any clue what might be causing this problem??

Hello, i'm planning to buy the razer kraken pro very soon, and i was wondering if it would work on my laptop, the headset itself comes with one 3.5mm audio jack, so i was wondering if the audio and microphone would work on my laptop in one jack i have the HP Pavilion 17 Notebook PCi also do have this icon next to my audio jack so i guess it supports audio and microphone in one?

Answer:Headset with single jack would it work or not?

Hi, Welcome to the HP Support forum. Thank you for choosing HP. As most new computers nowadays, you have only 1 3.5 mm jack, so if your headset has 2 pins (1 mic and 1 audio) - they cannot work (and at the same time). Please, check these threads and articles:>> http://www.howtogeek.com/180395/how-to-connect-a-headset-to-a-laptop-tablet-or-smartphone-with-a-sin...>> https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/ThinkPad-P-and-W-Series-Mobile/W520-No-microphone-jack/td-p/411081 You may need to get an adapter like these:>> https://www.amazon.com/dp/B004SP0WAQ/?tag=hotoge-20 Personally, I recommend you seek for a headset with USB connector - it is one connector only for both the audio and the microphone - example:   Hope this helps Happy holidays !

Okay, so I had this problem since FOREVER. I tried everything that I could find on the internet but nothing works.
I think it has something to do with realtek, because it's gone! It's not in the control panel, I can't find it anywhere except in the program list where I can delete it. I tried deleting it and re-installing, but that doesn't fix the problem.
I have used all types of different headset, headphones etc. etc. that had a jack thingy (don't know what it's called), so that is not the problem. Even if I click the white speaker (next to the time) and I go to the audio devices, it is not shown there! But when I connect my headset to my phone it works perfectly fine.
Also, I use normal speakers en a microphone with a usb, simply because the jack input doesn't work. My speakers work fine and so does the microphone
So technically my jack input thingy doesn't respond, both back and front.
This just frustrates me

I don't know much about computers, so if you could explain it to me step by step would be great

I have a packard bell: ixtreme M3720. I have no Idea how to look for me specs but this is the only thing I could find:
System: Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bits
BIOS: default system BIOS
Processor: Pentium(R) Dual-Core CPU

I really hope you can help me D:

I just upgraded my Y40-80 with Windows 10.  Initially, when I plugged my earbuds w/mic into the audio jack, it works.  However, that stopped to work for no reason.  When I use my normal earbuds without mic, the audio jack works.   Now, the only thing I could think of is Google Chrome prompted a message telling me to upgrade to a new version.  After the upgrade, the audio jack failed to work with earbuds w/ mic.  I'm not sure if that's the culprit. I downloaded the lastest audio driver from Lenovo and still doesn't work. Any thoughts?  Thanks.

Hi, I have a problem with my front audio jack. The cause of this problem may or may not be the DAW reaper. I set my front headphone jack on my laptop as reapers input and the speakers on the laptop as its output. This did not work so I uninstalled the program. I tried to use my headphones but there is nothing. I uninstalled all the drivers for Realtek and reinstalled them. I have also tried system restores, 4 times. They keep failing regardless of whether Avast is off or not. The speakers work, and when the headphones get plugged in (they work on my phone and other PC's in the house perfectly fine), they are recognized by Dell Audio. The problem is, the only thing in the playback tab in sound (hidden or not) is speakers and a monitor I don't want to use. Can anyone help me diagnose the problem? I really want to use my headphones again.

Headphone model: SkullCandy Crushers
Laptop: Dell Inspiron 15 3537

Answer:No sound at all through headset jack just static

The "headphone" jack on this model can be a Headphone jack, a Microphone jack or a combination. I couldn't find out what type of plug is needed, whether it uses an iPhone type 4 connection plug or a standard 3 connector plug. That may be one problem.

Second, set the Stereo Mix as the default recording device. Then whatever is used will be heard by the speakers and a recording program, providing stereo mix is set as the source. You also need stereo mix if you want to record audio from the Internet.

I have a recording studio (Sonar) but use a separate USB connected recording interface unit, not the PC's sound card.

I can't figure out how to fix this. I noticed that, when I'm watching a video, my headset's mic will relay the audio coming into my headset. Disabling Stereo Mix doesn't fix it. The physical controller that's on my headset cable doesn't stop it from happening, as even if I turn the volume knob all the way down and flick the mute switch, it's still picking up the audio. Muting my headset from within the computer stops the mic from hearing it, as does switching to my speakers that are plugged into the front jack. My headset is a 3.5mm jack type plugged into the back of the computer, directly into the motherboard.

Answer:Installed new USB Headset NOW no speaker audio even if I unplug the headset

Yeah, my USB headset was a little weird at first as well.

Try going into your volume control (Start > All Programs > Accessories > Entertainment > Volume Control):
1. Click Options
2. Properties
3. Change the mixer device from the USB headset to your speakers.

Should work.

Also should note you can change the output settings in most audio software (for example: Windows Media Player, Winamp, etc.) so if you can't hear anything from your speakers when using those programs, try fiddling with those settings as well. I know for Winamp it's Options > Preferences > Plug-ins > Output > double-click the plug-in you use (mine is out_ds.dll) and again change it to your speakers using the drop down menu.

Hey,

the topic pretty much says it. I bought myself a new headset(C-media headphone set or something) which uses a USB-port instead of an original sound-port-thing. The problem is, whenever I plug the headset in the USB-port pretty much nothing happens and I can't get the sound in the headset, it just stays in the speakers...

It used to be no problem when I used a headset with the sound-port on the motherboard to just change it. Anyone have any suggestions on what I might do? :(

edit: forgot to say that it works just fine after rebooting the computer.

Thank you

Answer:Problem with USB-headset(Can't switch between headset and speakers without rebooting)

Hi Foonksh,

Try going into the Control Panel and go into Sounds and Audio Devices. From there you can pick the default device for recording and for playback. In the playback section, set the headset as the default device instead of your speakers.

I have a Vista Home PC and two USB headsets that worked two weeks ago.

Today, I plugged in one of the USB headsets and Vista doesn't recognize it. What I mean by 'doesn't recognize it' is:

there's no announcement of a device being plugged inaudio continues to come from the speakers, not the headset
The USB hub port that I plugged the headset into works fine for other USB devices, like a cell phone, for example.
I get the same failure for both USB headsets, so it's difficult to believe that both headsets suddenly went bad.
I rebooted the PC, but still get the failure.
Any suggestions for troubleshooting?

Thanks in advance for any advice.

For Christmas I got a pair of Razer Blackshark headphones/headset. It's great and the bass is kick ass. But for whatever reason Windows 7 does not recognize that I have it plugged in. I hear audio and what have you but it's using default system audio levels. So if I unplug my headset and turn up the audio and then replug them, I get my ears blasted because it doesn't auto adjust.

The funny thing is, it works fine on Windows 8.1. It is recognized as a headset and everything. Show disabled devices is enable on Windows 7 and it is not there.

Realtek Control Panel doesn't even detect it.

Answer:Windows Won't Recognize Headset

Hi Collin,

Try to update the drivers from here and after that try this.

1. Go to Start and click on Control Panel.
2. Click in Sound, then a new window will open up.
3. In the new windows click on the tab "Recording" and right click in the window and click on “Show Disabled devices”.
4. Now check if the Headphone is listed there and right click on it and choose enable.
5. Highlight the headphone and click on "Set as Default".

This recently acquired used Pavilion dv7-2173cl originally came with Vista and was upgraded by seller to W7 Pro 32-bit thru OEM disc set just prior to shipping.

While it has demonstrated capability to recognize new hardware insertion(external TV tuner express card, WiFi antenna booster), it fails to recognize wireless headset...and therefore I cannot add it to Bluetooth system.

My old HP Pavilion dv7-1170us with OEM Vista Home Premium did have similar problem with the same headset(unable to find driver at first, then unable to recognize later on) but thru repeated tweakings it finally worked(unfortunately I have forgotten how I did it). During the course of its functionally, the headset most often worked perfectly but sometime did not.

I am still learning this upgraded W7 system and I am hoping someone most familiar with W7 can help.

Answer:W7 does not recognize wireless headset

I just acquired a used Pavilion dv7-2173cl with upgraded W7 Pro 32-bit SP1.

I remember my old Pavilion dv7-1170us also originally came with factory installed SP1(Vista Home Premium 64-bit) and Windows Update automatically provided and installed SP2. It did not function fully until SP2 was installed(like IE upgrading).

Now, I am having one(so far)problem...it does not recognize BT peripheral device (my wireless headset). I wonder if missing SP2 is the reason. Windows Update is not providing/installing SP2 and Microsoft Download Center has none.

Does W7 come with SP2?

Anyone knows if the microphone/headset combo jack on ThinkPad P50 is a TRRS jack (Tip/Ring/Ring/Sleeve)? What I tried to do is to connect ThinkPad P50 with iPhone 6 so that one side's output is the other side's input.  So I can record the audio. From my research, iPhone's jack is TRRS spec.  I can easily find TRRS splitter on eBay, for example, here's a splitter with female plugs: http://www.ebay.com/itm/371299679312 If ThinkPad P50 is using the same TRRS spec, I can just buy another TRRS splitter with male plugs. Thanks!

Hi, I'm usually a computer intermediate, sometimes a computer beginner, but for this instance, i'm computer illiterate. I've had this computer for about 1 year now, it is a Windows Vista, (I'm not sure about anything else about this computer.)

Recently, I bought a headset named the "arena soundblaster." The problem I've been having with this headset is that if I put the USB thing into the computer after the computer turns on, the sound still comes out of the speakers above me. So what I did is I looked at the bottom right corner of my screen, at the toolbar (I think that's what it's called,) and looked through all the icons and found one entitled "audio jack" (beige redish with little semicircles coming off of it, like the volume button.) So I pressed I right clicked it, and pressed on the second thing down. I noticed that it said that the sound was coming out of the speakers, instead of my headset, so I clicked disable on the speakers, thinking that that was what I needed to do to switch it to my headset, then press set headset as default. Now, I can't switch it back to the speakers, because the option of it is not availabe, nor is the icon on my taskbar anymore.

Please help me!
Kyle

Hi
My work have just given me a Dell Lattitude E7240 which has a 3.5mm 'headset' jack which i understand means it is a combined headphone and microphone jack - does this mean it functions the same as the headset jack on a mobile device? can I use the same type of headset? if so how do i configure it? I have tried but dont seem to be able to get sound.
to elaborate, when i plugged my headset in, i got a pop up asking me what sort of device i was using (headphone/speaker out/headset and some skull candy options) so i selected 'headset;'
when i check my sound settings i can see the green bar showing input against the mic (Jack Mic) and when i test the sound i can see the green bar moving against Realtek High Definition audio but can't hear anything through the headset  I Have nothing muted either in Dell Audio or Windows.
any tips or guidance on what type of headset i can use, and how to configure it would be gratefully received

Answer:Dell Lattitude E7240 Headset Jack

Hello, sorry for the delay.
The combo audio jack uses a phone headset with a TRRS plug. There might be a problem with the Realtek audio driver. To check that, switch to the Windows native audio driver and plug in the headset. With the native driver the mic probably won't work but the headphones definitely should, so if they don't then there is probably a hardware issue. In that case try other headphones or headsets and if still nothing works contact tech support for a repair if still under warranty.
To switch drivers:
1. Open the Device Manager (type devmgmt.msc in the search box).2. Expand the "Sound, video & game controllers" and right click on "Realtek High Definition Audio".3. Select to "Update Driver Software".4. Click on "Browse my computer for driver software".5. Click "Let me pick from a list of drivers on my computer".6. Put a check in the box "Show compatible hardware" if not already checked.7. In the list of devices, click "High Definition Audio" (the native driver).8. Click "Next".9. On the Update Driver Warning box, click "Yes" (install the driver). 10. Restart the laptop if prompted. If not prompted, then no need to restart.[To get back to the Realtek driver,  do it again but reverse the names in steps 1 and 6.]

Hello,

I recently got a new headset with a mic, as i have been using an external mic that was separate from my old headphones and was really old and dodgy. The new headset i got was the Plantronics Rig Flex LX. It has really good sound quality and everything works well on my Xbox. However, when i went to use it on my computer, the computer will recognize the headset as a playback device, but doesnt recognize it as a recording device.

I have updated all of my drivers and tried plugging my headset into all of the 3 audio jacks (one for microphones, one for headphones, one for combination) but it still doesnt work.

Does anyone know a solution?

I have now fixed the problem by my self.  You have to enable the Multi-stream mode of the device advanced setting in RealTek HD Audio Manager. Then the external microphone gets visible. I cannot figure out why this setting is not set by default. Is it only me who thinks it is brilliant to use a common SmartPhone headset for Skype communication also??? This setting would never have been set if I didn't have used the time to investigate. ??

I have Dell optiplex 3050, Microphone is not detect/show in recording device. where audio is working normally. And Headset/earphone(Microphone)  is working good in smartphone.

Answer:Microphone not detect of single jack headset/earphones

There are several versions of the 3050, Tower, Small Form Factor, All in One, etc.  Which one do you have exactly.
However, on many PC's, the smartphone headset/mic combo does not work without an adapter for the plug.  The smartphone plug is a "TRRS" (Tip, Ring1, Ring2, Sleeve) and PC's use a "TRS" (Tip, Ring, Sleeve).  This is likely your problem.  There are adapters available to convert and split the mic and headset into separate plugs.

Hello, I've searched for about an hour and can't figure this out. I have a Plantronics M214C headset. It is a headset with an earphone for one ear and a boom microphone. It has a 2.5mm jack with 3 pins. I'm trying to use this headset with my ThinkPad Edge 14 by plugging it into a 3-pin 2.5mm female to 3-pin 3.5mm male adapter (just a single cable with the female on one end and male on the other), and then plugging that adapter into the combo audio jack on the ThinkPad Edge. I figured this stuff was standard and it would work, but it does not. I hear audio through the headset, but the computer is not picking up the microphone. I have tested that the headset microphone is working by plugging it into a compatible IP phone. I'm using a headset with a single jack, so I'm assuming this solution will NOT work (it gives separate headphone and microphone plugs), but will it? http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/ThinkPad-Edge-Knowledge-Base/Microphone-Headset-Jack-splitter-needed-for...

Answer:use 2.5mm cordless phone headset with combo audio jack

because the adapter probably don't support the mic pass through. I havent seen many adapters that can pass through stereo sound and mic.

With my old headset i used to have a blast recording sounds/music coming out of my comptuer directly using wave out. Often for MSN voice clips and such.

I haven't changed anything, but now that i have this new headset, the only recording i seem to be able to do is voice recording in sound recorder, i can't seem to record wave out mix on sound recorder, and can't record anything whatsoever in msn voice clips.

I can hear voice clips sent to me though, strange thing is, when someone invited me to an audio conversation earlier, i got the annoying ringing noise alright , but i couldn't hear anything.

I checked my volume controls nothing is muted.
Any help would be fantastic! Thanks in advance

The other day, my G933's mic stopped working. Windows recognizes the device, but it can't transmit any sounds (on the bar in the recording tab), Skype, Discord, or anything. I've tried using another USB headset and had the same problem. Then I tried an old G230 with 3.5mm cables and the mic worked. However, the person I'm talking to on Skype says my mic keeps cutting out and they can hear sounds coming from my headset. (Might be a whole other problem. It seems like it'll mute every time I'm playing something loud on my computer.)I built this computer about 2 months ago. Using an Asus Maximus 9 Hero. I've tried updating the audio driver and plugging in the headset onto other USB ports. If anybody has any suggestions, I will greatly appreciate it.

I recently bought a Plantronics headset, and plugged it in my microphone jack. It says "Line IN" when I try to use it with audacity, but when I record, and even yell into it, nothing shows up on the line. My laptop has 2 headphone jacks and a mic jack. Could this be the problem?

Answer:Plantronics Audio .326 Headset not working on Inspiron 1525 Mic Jack

If you have plugged the microphone part of the headset into the "Mic" jack on the PC and using the "line in" to listen that is incorrect. Generally, Audacity uses the "Stereo Mix" to record. With Stereo Mix set as the default recording device any input is "heard".

Second, if you are plugging the mic into the "line In", that is incorrect and the mic will never work. A computer mic needs +5V DC to operate. The Mic in jack has the 5V, a line in does not and is a stereo (2 channel) input.

You list a Dell Desktop in your System Specs but are referring to a Dell Inspiron 1524 "Laptop". ???

This has puzzled me for a while - the mic part of the combo jack does not work. I have a headset which works properly with my Nokia E63 phone. the connector looks likehttp://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:IPod_and_iPhone_audio_plugs.JPGalthough I could not find electrical definition of terminal/ring for either E63 or T410/T510. I suppose my E63 headset should work with T410 combo jack. When I plug it into the combo jack, the sound  switched from speaker to headphone but the machine is still using the intenal mic (right below the LCD screen) for input, not the mic on my headset. Note that the internal mic is quite sensitive (default boost set to +30db) so if without careful test, one would not know that it is the internal one. (it can be tested using the Recording device property of Control Panel/Sound and tapping lightly on headset mic and internal mic and observe the signal change detected by windows). I spent probably 3-4 hours on this single issue but to no avail (including one hour with an undertrained Atlanta support personel). I hope some of you could do a test of headset on your T410/T510 and see whether it works for you and provide me with some tips.========T410 with integrate graphics Win7 pro x64BIOS: 1.09 (2010-01-07)Embedded Controller: 1.03

Answer:How to make T410 combo jack working with 4 ring headset?

from what i understand, the t410 uses an iphone-compatible jack. now i don't know if the nokia jack is electrically the same as an iphone jack, but if it isn't then i don't think you can use it. you get audio because all these are electrically compatible to the traditional audio jack for audio output. i guess the easiest way is to try your headset with an iphone.

Hello, I have headset Genius HS-500X and it has 2 seperate cables for audio and mic. The problem is that my laptop has only 1 jack with headphones and microphone icon, so it should be a combo jack. About 2 months ago I've bought an splitter ( https://i.imgur.com/OXwRzIw.jpg ) , that has one cable red and one green so it should work. It's the same as in picture. But when I plug everything in correctly microphone is not working and headphones have reversed sound, when sound should come from left side it comes from right. I've tried to reinstall software (realtek) many times, also bought another one splitter, but no success. I don't know what to do more.. The last hope is on you guys.

I know that the headset isn't broken because I got it today (brand new) and tested it with my ipad, it worked perfectly on there. The wire from the headphones to the jack splits into two different jacks (one for headphones and one for the microphone), when I plug it into my 3.5mm jack input it doesn't show up on playback devices (even when I select 'show disabled devices'), please help!

Answer:Why doesn't my computer recognize the headset (headphones and microphones)?

I'm not sure how comfortable or knowledgeable you are with Windows but usually things like this is a driver problem.
Simplest solution is to remove the driver, restart Windows and it should re-install the driver (so long as you're connected to the internet) and things should work fine.
It's always helpful to know what version of Windows you're using as well in case you need step by step help.

I have a nice bluetooth headset that goes over one ear.  It's a GE model 86710 and is compliant with bluetooth v1.2.  I want to use it to listen to Internet radio stations and with Skype.  I'm trying to pair it with my new Thinkpad W520 running Windows 7 64bit Professional.  Both the laptop and Windows 7 are current with updates as of 7/3/2011.  When I turn my bluetooth radio on (Fn + F5) and the headset on and click on the add new device button, only my roommate's bluetooth computer is displayed as available bluetooth devices.  How can I get Windows 7 to recognize my bluetooth headset?  I was able to use this headset with Windows XP and Bluesoleil software in the past.  I would prefer not to purchase Bluesoleil software for Windows 7 since it is quite expensive.  Any advice would be appreciated.  Thanks!

Hi all The X230T, which I own, of course has one of these combo jacks that will take in the 4 pole, 3.5mm (TRRS) headset/mic combo devices, such as an iPhone headset with mic. I have one of these adaptors, with a 3 pole (regular) headphone plugged into the Speaker hole, and another 3 pole (regular) microphone plugged into the microphone hole. If I half-unplug the microphone from the microphone hole on the adaptor, then I can hear from the microphone, but the webcam's dual-array microphones are still active, producing a lot of noise of course. If I plug the microphone all the way into the adaptor, then I can only hear from the webcam's microphone! The strange thing is, this adaptor with the same headphone/microphone plugged in, works on other phones and devices that take this combo port, i.e. phone transmits voice that is going into the microphone that has been plugged in. So the phone works, but the laptop doesn't. I have all the updated drivers from Lenovo on the Realtek sound card. What can I do????   I am on Windows 8.1 Pro. Thanks in advance

Hi, im having a z500 laptop which i bought about a year ago and i have this problem where when i plug my headset with mic into the audio combo jack, the person on the other side of the skype call can hear a hissing sound in the background. Mic totally work fine when i plug into my handphone. When i plug in my earpiece into the jack this time, everything is fine as the computer uses the internal mic which is very clear without any noises however the internal mic picks up literally any sound which is not suitable for chatting on skype. Also, is there any way to make it such that the computer uses the mic on the earpiece instead of the internal mic? Thanks.

I've searched around a lot about this topic, but after hours and days of searching, I've found nothing to fix my problem. I have a headset that has speakers and a microphone (3.5mm jacks) that work fine, except when I'm trying to talk to someone using the microphone, they can hear the sounds coming from my headset (youtube videos, game sounds etc). I've tried installing the Realtek HD Audio Codec but it disappears after it finishes installing and after I restart (although it still remains in the Programs and Features uninstall page), the program files for it is empty with the exception of RtlUpd64.exe which doesn't do anything when executed and a few other files.
In device manager, the things I have under sound, video and game controllers are Audio Device on High Definition Audio Bus and the Intel Display Audio. I've updated everything to the latest. Also, I recently system restored my computer and before I did I had IDT High Definition Audio Drivers, but after updating they were changed.
I think the problem is that stereo mix is enabled somewhere or something to do with my drivers as when I tried plugging my headset into my brother's computer, it worked fine (he has the Gigabyte Realtek Audio Manager thing and was able to adjust the stereo mix settings).
If there's a program or workaround to this, or how to disable the stereo mix like through registry or something, please let me know.

Answer:Headset mic recording sounds through headset?

You are correct, that is the usual cause of this problem. And aside from being set in the drivers, it can sometimes be set in the application (used for the communication).

That model does appear to use the IDT High-Definition (HD) Audio chipset. The problem is likely in the fact that you upgraded to Win10 and I don't see that HP supports nor supplies drivers for Win10 (I only see drivers for 7 and 8). Which means you are using generic drives supplied by Windows. The generic Windows drivers often work well enough to get hardware functional, but quite often don't support all hardware or all features of all hardware.

I have a almost broken headset, but the microphone still works fine, The microphone is connected on the wire right before the headset, Its not actually touching the headset itself.

Would this microphone still work if the headset was cut off?

Sorry but I can't manage to take a photo but

Answer:Will a Headset microphone still work if I cut it off the Headset?

Is the microphone actually supported by the headset, by that I mean when the set is on your head is the microphone carried close to your mouth so you have both hands free. If this is the case then cutting off the headset will mean the microphone will not have any way of being held near your mouth.
If you cut it off you will have to be very careful you don't cut the wires for the microphone & it's possible that there is a common return wire for the earpieces & the microphone in the form of a shielded cable, so it would be very difficult, but if you have skills in this area it could be done.

I cannot get windows to load the drivers for a Jabra UC Voice 550a MS Duo USB headset. Under Devices, Windows 7 shows lists this headset by name as an Unspecified device.  In device manager, Windows 7 lists this headset under "Other devices".
I called Jabra Support and they say this is a Windows problem.  It must be in configuration somewhere or related to several Windows Updates that occurred on my PC on Oct 2nd, 2014.  Prior to Oct 2nd, 2014, this headset worked and this headset still
works on other PCs.  Any help will be very much appreciated.

Answer:Windows 7 unable to recognize any USB communication headset. Unable to load driver.

Hi robh,
Do the other USB devices work correctly? Have you tried to plug in with another port?

I recommend you to follow these steps to have a fix.
Step1.Run this fix it tool  to have a check .
Hardware devices are not working or are not detected in Windows
http://support2.microsoft.com/mats/hardware_device_problems/
Step 2.Reinstall the headset driver, you may need to manually download the headset driver from the manufacturer website and install the driver for this device.
Step 3.Uninstall and reinstall the USB controllers from the device manager and then plug in the headset  to have a check.

To do this :
In Device Manager, double click to expand "Universal Serial Bus controllers", right click on the Host Controller, click "Uninstall" , click "OK", repeat for each device and restart . Windows 7 will reinstall all USB controllers
automatically.
Meanwhile, here is a link for reference:

Alright so I have a BRAND new Sony Vaio laptop with Windows 7, it's model # is VPCCW21FX. I got it only a week ago.
I play games so I connect with Ventrilo, but with this laptop it is not detecting my headset. It's a standard Logitech headset that connects through those pink and green jacks on the side of my laptop. It only recognizes the laptop's built-in microphone, however. This is what I've tried to get my headset's mic to work:

1. Disabling the built-in microphone. The laptop still did not recognize that I had a separate microphone plugged in through the jack.

2. Updating sound card's driver / rollback to previous, to see if it might work. It did not.

3. I tried to use the Ease of Access -> Install new microphone. The laptop would only still detect the built-in microphone, not the one that was plugged in through the jack.

I know it's not the headset's fault because it was working perfectly fine in another computer just this morning, and I tested it on my brother's computer a few minutes ago. His computer detects my headset. Yes I have the plugs in the correct holes, and no there are no drivers since this isn't a USB headset. The laptop KNOWS that something is plugged into the mic jack because it mutes the laptop's built-in microphone once there's something in it, but no sound is detected.

As you can see from the image, the Realtek microphone is the built-in one. My headset is currently plugged in, but ... Read more

Answer:Laptop not detecting headset

on that screen if you click on the microphone - so thatthe properties button highlights
click on that
another screen opens - click on recording TAB
on that screen - do you have 3.5mm Jack - anything you can enable there?

Well I have a Sony Vaio and just plugged a mic in (on vista) and it worked ...... so ignore above - that made no difference on my machine

I used start> programs> accessories> sound recorder
to test with

try that see if it works with that application

Hello everyone, I've got an annoying issue that is bugging the heck out of me.

I plug my USB Xbox 360 Controller into my laptop, then the Xbox 360 Headset into the Controller. I set the USB Headset Device (Xbox 360 Controller) as default..

Now the Mic and Speaker works, but its like the volume resets itself randomly.

Like I'll be listening to something and it will just go *pop* volume goes from muted all the way upto where it was (I don't mean it shows it on Windows as muted then slowly goes up, I mean thats what it basically does).

Now if anyone could replicate this, or knows a fix for this, I'd be most grateful. (as always)

Answer:Xbox 360 Headset + Laptop

I should also add the easiest way to replicate this;

Requirements
• USB Xbox 360 Controller
• Standard Xbox 360 Wired Headset
• USB Port

Steps

1. Plug your Xbox 360 Controller into a USB Port on your computer.
2. Download any drivers as needed.
3. Plug your Standard USB Xbox 360 Headset into your Xbox 360 Controller.
4. Go to control panel and go to the sound settings.
5. Under the playback tab, set the Headset Earphone as default.
6. Listen to some music through the headset and just go about what you usually do, you'll see what I'm referring to.

Note: Disabling the Microphone on the headset has no effect.

I have some axent wear cat-ear headphones that come with a microphone that plugs into a jack on the headphones themselves and then has a single separate cord to plug into the laptop. The laptop also has a single headset type jack. I'm on an HP Envy running windows 10. It also has beats audio on it if that's of any help. When I plug it in the computer recognizes a headset however it has it lists it as disconnected. It says the same in regards to playback sound however I can hear it through the headphones. I've looked through a bunch of forums and the HP support website itself and nothing seems to work. Some people suggested going on realtek audio manager but even though the laptop has realtek on it the audio manager doesn't seem to be here

I just downloaded Vonage's Softphone service which allows me to make and receive calls on my computer. I've got a Compaq nx6120 laptop, and I purchased the Logitech ClearChat Stereo PC headset.

My problem: The headset and microphone only seem to work when the laptop's speaker is enabled. This allows anyone else in the room to hear my conversations. I'd like to be able to mute my laptop speaker and still have my headset and microphone work so I may make and receive calls without broadcasting them to others in the room.

Any ideas/assistance would be greatly appreciated!

Answer:Headset vs. laptop speaker

Hi AML,

Try dropping into your 'Control Panel' and opening up 'Sounds and Audio Devices'. Once in there, click on the 'Audio' tab and check your 'Sound Playback - Default Device'. Just a note that before you do this, make sure your headset is plugged-in! You may be able to drop it down to 'Logitech' or similar and not have it blaring out of the speaker at the same time!

I am having problems increasing the volume on my Gateway laptop with the headset plugged in. The indicator shows it is at full volume. When the headset is pulled out, the speakers seem to be quite loud. I have tried two sets of headsets to eliminate the chance that one of those was at fault. How many volume controls are there on this rascal? Any help would be appreciated.

Answer:low volume on laptop headset

Check that the jack you're using is marked for headphones--there may also be a 'line out' jack' which will have a separate volume control.

Right click the volume control icon near the clock, and left click open volume control. Click 'options', and 'properties'. With the bullet in 'playback', check all the boxes. Click ok, and you may have even more volume sliders--

I would like to use my laptop as a bluetooth headset for my Playstation TV since I am using my second monitor with an HDMI switcher as the screen. I can't connect to my laptop using bluetooth (it finds it but can never connect), so I was hoping for a way to make the laptop appear as a headset instead. WIDCOMM looked like it might work, but the install hangs with the message "Please plug in or turn on your Bluetooth device" and I'm not sure what to do.

Before I go into the details of my troubles, I would like to first explain that this problem persists with my laptop ONLY. I have tried my brothers laptop (running on vista) and my parents home desktop (XP) and both of them do not have the same problem as what I have on my laptop.

I own a Cyber Acoustics AC-201 headset and since I bought it, I have not heard the end of the humming noise that can be heard in the background whenever I talk. I usually converse in Paltalk chatrooms or with my friends on AOL Instant Messenger. I'm not quite sure why there is only a humming noise in the background with just my laptop and no other computers that my family owns.

I have tried using the sound recorder on my computer so I can hear what others are hearing. Yes, you can make out what I say fine, but the annoying buzzing sound is just a terrible nuisance.

How do I fix this annoying humming noise? It is most certainly coming from my microphone and not my speakers or headphones because when I mute my headset, the humming stops.

Any bit of help is greatly appreciated!

Thank you,
Matt

Today I bought an Xbox One stereo headset for use with my computer (because it was cheap) I got home and plugged it into my computer and the audio worked and came through the headset like I expected but when I went to sound recorder to see if the microphone worked and the green bar that usually moves around depending on how loud you talk wasn't there. I went down to my volume icon and right clicked and went to recording devices and it shows stereo mix as being active. I have a headset that uses a usb connector and this works fine on my computer. (My computer has the one audio jack not 2)

Answer:Xbox One headset use with laptop

My first thought is that my computer doesn't support having both mic and audio in the one audio jack, how do I know if this is the case

If I buy a bluetooth enabled laptop and want to use a bluetooth headset with skype, do I just need to buy the headset or anything else. My confusion comes from thinking that sound has to be pluuged into the sound card, but will the bluetooth enabled laptop take care of all this internally and process the sound signals through the sound card, without me having to buy a dongle? If I also wanted to use the headset with a PC, is all I need to buy a bluetooth dongle for the PC? Thanks.

Answer:Bluetooth enabled laptop & headset

Oh and is there any security for bluetooth (similar to WEP or WPA for wireless) ?

I have recently bought a bluetooth headset, a Jabra BT 250v, for both my mobile phone and my laptop, an Acer Ferrari. It connected fine to my phone but not to the laptop. The signal for it was found by the laptop and it told me it was connected, but when i try to use it as a microphone or headset the sound just comes out the laptop speakers. Anyone got any ideas?
