Question: bitlocked drove formated now want to recover my data

BitLocker is just a feature to encrypt the drive. However, if the user would like to format the drive,
BitLocker feature cannot prevent the encrypted drive to be formatting(that is what happened with me). After formatting, the BitLocker feature will
also disappear since the formatted drive is a new drive.. anybody have any solution to this .. kindly help i want my data back.. thanks

Preferred Solution: bitlocked drove formated now want to recover my data

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer:Can I recover my data ,if drive is formated?

Akshay Kulkarni.......One word answer is NO......however there are companies out there that do hard drive recovery.......its very expensive and from what I understand not 100 % sure.   When your hard drive was formatted ...was it scrubbed as part of the formatting procedure . Hope this helps you .dl65

Answer:Formated my external. Please help me recover my data.

any free data recovery software should do the trick, provided you haven't overwritten the HD. Bear in mind, the longer you wait, the more difficult it is to recover due to the fact you might overwrite some of the files.

I accidently formatted one of my drives which was previously encrypted.
now I want my data back ... i have lost my all important data ..

I tried some third party software as "recover my file" but it didn't work.

Later then, I experimented on a formatted (not encrypted before) usb drive to recover files by same software and it did work.

After that, I encrypted the usb drive and then formatted it. Then I tried to recover by same software, but it didn't work.
So, it's apparent that it is not possible to recover from a encrypted and formatted drive by a usual recovery software.
Is there any other method that can help me.

Please inform, I'm in a dire need.

Hello,I have in my possession a hard drive that the recovery program had been run on, in error. It formatted over hundreds of Word and Excel documents as well as Outlook emails etc. So, I am trying to recover them.I ran PC Inspector File Recovery program and it found hundreds of files, the folders were green in color, meaning the chances of success of recovery were good. I recovered some Word documents. They appear normal, but when I open them they are all encrypted, or at least look like they are. I was offered the opportunity to change the way Word reads them, but none of the settings worked. Then I ran DataRecovery program. It found 37,000 recoverable files. When I recovered an Excel file the icon looked perfectly normal. Here is a screenshot:When I open the file, it looks like this:Any ideas?

Answer:How Do I Recover Files If The Hard Drive Has Been Formated?

After running into a similar issue myself at onetime, you need to find and obtain the Personal key Certificate you used when you made these encrypted files, and then install it in trusted certificats on your PC to be able to decrypt the files. If you already have that personal key, and the old SID of the machine, you could use a program like NEWSID to recreate the environment - and then decrypt them using the cypher command while logged on as an administrator. I used to have a link to some pages explaining how to do this, but since I back up my keys now - after that one time, I discarded them.

Having looked at a few forums, it seems an update from Windows sometimes produces a fault where your PC is stuck in an infinate restart having shown updated 3 of 3 0%. I found trouble starting in safe mode and instead selected to go for a restore point, from here the drive was formatted and I have lost about 100gb of data. My question is if I use a data recovery program will I be able to restore all my emails, documents, photos, music and software etc and replace them onto the hard drive. The PC came with MS Office already on it so I cannot reinstall the that or any of the other usefull programs as I do not have the serial numbers. I have been looking at Ease Us and this is doing a search at the moment has found 140,000 files in 2 hours, feels like it may be opening a massive can of worms trying to replace and restore everything.

Answer:Formated hard drive, Data Recovery problem

The more that you use the hard drive, the more likely that the data will be overwritten (and unrecoverable by normal means).

I'd recommend the utilities from Data Recovery Software - Hard Drive Recovery - RAID Recovery - Runtime Software They are free to run and see what you can recover - but it'll cost you about $80 US to actually do the recovery.

Data recovery is just that - data. If you're trying to recover programs that'll be much more difficult. I'd suggest contacting the system manufacturer for a set of recovery disks that contain the original software.

Then you're faced with determining if the data recovery was successful. In my case I recovered a deleted partition with an image of my hard drive - and the software reported that it was successful. But I wasn't able to restore the image.

Good luck!

I picked up an old 15.r" T61 about a month ago.   I had a 5400rpm 80gb drive out of a 14.1" with Win 7 Home Premium on it.  Popped it in and everything worked and has been performing consistantly since there, a little slow, but it was working.  Only one problem, a lack of space.l  I picked ou a 500gb WD Scorpia Black and cloned it with the same program and equipment I'd used to to the hard drive in the first place.  Right away the trouple started.  My task bar is nearly fully occupied at all times and on first boot, nearly half of the the favIcons  were the IE "e".  The only ones showing correctly where for the loaded programs.  They weren't loading when I went on line, either.  I tried F5,, but nothing.  Tried updates, and couldn't.  I got a Red X and a message saying the update services were turned off.  Next I figured it was just a glitch in the cloning process and ran it again.  Same results.  I've since tried a fresh install and all goes well,  All the updates were install and up to date, the I dropped the bomb.  I ran Lenovo System Update as I alwys do.  That set it off.  Same results as before.  I'm locked out of updates and can't add any programming, PERIOD.  Any ideas wold be appreciated.

Answer:T61 and big Hard Drove

I had a similar problem with a newer WDC high capacity drive.  The solution was to install  Intel's Rapid Storage Technology Driver, I am running Win7 32 bit so used the driver for that system.  If you search this topic it is apparantly a common problem.  I actually used the driver from HP's website, and it worked, here is that link: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareDownloadIndex?cc=us&lc=en&dlc=en&softwareitem=ob-90495-1 Lenovo also has one but said it was for 64 bit, (HP said both 32 and 64), here is that link: http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/downloads/detail.page?LegacyDocID=MIGR-74430 Here is another thread that covers the problem:  http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/T61-and-prior-T-series-ThinkPad/ADVANCED-FORMAT-HDD-EXPERIENCE-AND-DRIVE... This worked me perhaps someone else will know more about it. Good luck!!

Greetings!

would someone be so kind to check on my malware skirmish logs :wave

I went through 'read n' run me first' in detail, and here are my results

I should note that I haven't been able to run the spybot, and online scanning in safe mode..

system restore was off all the time through the removal of the pest, and startup set to normal.

lil' background;

few days ago I was using Mozilla, when one IE poped up out of nowhere.

I found some strange process with hijack this, wich googled me to some virtumonde problems forums. I tried to replicate the steps from the personalized advice regarding the similar problem, downloaded whole bunch of lil' tools (vundofix, killbox, avenger, spybot etc.) Tried with avast home edition too, but with relative succes. With the combination of all these tools, I menaged to clean my system, but after a few hours online, without even the extensive surfing, the infestation ressurected

Almost went mad..

now I followed your precise steps from 'read & run..' thread and I'm desperate for a closure :cry

Thank You !

I have just installed Win 8 Home Premium on a clean Intel SSD after much struggling with my HP H8-1414's EFI BIOS. I have a HDD spinner to be used primarily for data and backup images. My problem is Disk Management will not allow me assign D: through H: as drive letters on partitions I create on the HDD. It automatically assigns I:. The only other device on the machine is the CD/DVD drive. No usb drives or any such thing. If I shrink C a little and create a partition on the SSD, the same thing happens -- not allowed to assign D through H.

I have many Office 2010 macro's and Windws scripts that depend on D and F. Win 8 is the first version I've used that wouldn't let use those letters.

What might I have done wrong to cause this and what can I do to fix it?

Thank you very much

tbh, I'm not sure if I'm running windows 10 64 or 32, I'm using the default it shipped with So, what happened was first my computer would boot up fine, but it would "lock up" occasionally. I would be watching a video, click to a different tab, stuff like that, and everything would become unresponsive and freeze (didn't just happen to my browser, would happen even with my search bar). Restarting and giving it a moment would fix this problem, but it got to the point it happened 20 or 30 minutes after start up. I decided to do a reset, chose to not save my files (didn't do a 100% wipe though) because there's nothing critically important, and I thought it could be a virus. Did the wipe, got an error a good bit in that the wipe couldn't be done (I do not remember the exact wording). Tried again, same thing. It directed me to some options, chose the launch windows 10 normally one, just to see if I was still having problems. Did this, and what would happen is computer would boot up, HP logo, cycle back to computer boot up, HP logo, it was in a loop. Waited a good hour and a half to two hours, would not stop. Turned computer off manually and on a few times, same problem. Turned computer off then on, f2, system quick test, and I got the error in the title FAILURE ID: QBS97X-82L863-XD7WMA-60WD03PRODUCT ID: P1A95UA#ABA

Answer:Hard Drove Short DST Check: FAILED

Hi, The 24 character error code is a failure of the short Disk Self Test and would indicate that the Hard Drive is failing and needs to be replaced. As your notebook shipped with Windows 10, it is probably still under warranty, so contact HP and arrange to have the drive replaced - If needed, you can check your warranty status Here. If you live in the US, contact HP Here. If you are in another part of the world, start Here. Regards, DP-K

I have a 2tb external Hitchi drive that is bitlocked. The drive will randomly re-lock itself and i cannot figure out why. I thought it may be a problem with the drive going into sleep mode so i got software that would prevent sleep mode but the drive still re-locks itself. The drive seems to most frequently re-lock and ask me for the password again after about 12hrs, but it has re-locked just seconds after unlocking it before. I have checked the drive with HDDScan and all the smart values look fine except for the CRC count because the drive has locked on me while transferring files, so i would obviously get a CRC error; the count is 4.

Does anyone know anything about this? How can i stop this drive from locking on me?

Any info would be great! Thanks!

I only installed Win 7 Ultimate yesterday and have been playing around investigating features. I decided to install Bitlock on an external USB drive.
I did this from within Help & Support. I've got a password and I've got a Bitlocker Drive Encryption Recovery Key. The encryption started and was immediately paused and now I can't go backwards or forwards. It wont let me do anything.
In Manage Bitlock almost everything leads to the message "The BitLocker metadata for the encrypted drive is not valid. You can attempt to repair the drive to restore access" but I can find no way of doing so.
In windows explorer I can see all the files on the drive but if I try to copy them to another drive I'm told the files cannot be found.
Obviously I need assistance.
This is my first post in this forum so if I'm in the wrong place please redirect me. Thanks.

Answer:Problem with Bitlocked USB External HDD

I just did the samething. Bitlocker froze during the encryption at 90%. I found a way to get my drive back and functioning.
1.Restart windows with drive inserted.
2.Go to Manage Bitlocker
3.Turn off Automatic Unlock
4.Remove USB Drive and reinsert into slot
Now when it ask for you to unlock it DON't. Just close the password window.
Go to Start menu, Computer, Right click the drive, Chose to format the drive.
You will lose all the files on the drive but, you will get use of the drive back.
Hope it works for you.

I have a drive on my computer that I encrypted. When I rebooted my system (reinstalled OS and everything), I lost the ability to unlock the drive.

I have my recovery key, but it won't let me access any of the files, and I'm not being prompted to type in a password or anything when trying to view the files. I open the file to unclick the drive encryption, but it just says that I do not have access to the file, which is odd because I am the admin.

How can I remove that encryption after a reboot?

Answer:Bitlocked drive before reboot

Since the OS was re-installed and the method of unlocking the drive was with the previous install, you're out of luck.

The only thing you can really do is format the HDD and hope that nothing important is lost.

Tip: Set a password that will alow you to unlock the drive, just in case you re-install windows.

Hello, I own a DELL INSPIRON 15 and I recently experienced a problem with desktop error in my operating system Windows Vista Premium 64bit. I tried to use System Restore but it didn't work. Dell offers a program called Dell DataSafe Local Backup 2.0 to restore the laptop to it's original factory state. I backed up my files into a folder called Emergency, located on drive C, then I did the formatting. I checked and my files were there, I restored them, but when I restarted the laptop, the same desktop error appeared. So I foolishly did the formatting again, I did it because Dell DataSafe program assured the files that were in the Emergency folder were not going to be deleted. So I did it, and when I went to the Emergency folder everything was gone. I checked the disk space and there was more space available. So I tried to do a System Restore again to go back before I did the 2nd formatting, and now it is stucked again and Vista won't start. So I suppose I have to do a formatting again, but now I don't know how can I recover my files. Is there a way? Please help!

I have been storing images from my digital camera (fuji finepix 2600z)since i got it last year.I was using adaptec software. I recently upgraded my computer and changed from W'98 to W'2000,my writer for a samsung (initially using sony writer)together with nero burning software. I transfered some new images onto my cd-r recently.I can now only find these new images on the cd.All of the older images appear to have gone from the disc, however when checking the disc in my computer I am informed that the cd has 649Mb and all 649Mb are used with the 24 images I recently put onto the cd.Yet the total size of all 24 images is only around 17Mb.I also am informed that these are stored/read on a UDF file system. When I checked the same cd on another computer running W'98 and adaptec software, the my computer facility informed me that the cd had 703Mb,of which 155Mb was used and 547Mb were free, and these were stored/read using CDUDF system. However I could still only access the last 24 images burnt onto the cd which account for only 17Mb of data. How can I gain access to all of the images stored onto my cd as this is the only record I have of these images, after upgrading my computer system. Thanks in anticipation to anybody out there who can sort this for me.

Answer:recover data from cd-r

Use "Scandisk" in the tools option of Adaptec to scan the disk. If the files are recoverable it will give you the option to do so. You may lose the last images you stored before the OS upgrade.

Answer:Can I recover my data?

Hello Mehrajhabibmir, and welcome to Vista Forums.

It depends on how you installed the fresh copy of Vista on whether you may be able to recover your data. Did you install it on the same partition as your previous Vista installation, or did you install it on a new partition or drive instead?

Once you have formatted your drive you haveto all intents and purposes lost all files on it.

there are forensic investigation utilities that might recover part or all of the files, but they are not available to the public and only to law enforcement bodies. It is debateable whether they will work, depending on the effectiveness of the format

Answer:Please Help! Need to recover data

Welcome to TSG! Sorry to hear of your difficulties.

The #1 thing to do in this scenario is to avoid touching the hard drive on the computer where the files are lost. Chances are they are still there, in a way.

Download the Ultimate Boot CD: http://www.ultimatebootcd.com/download.html. You can burn the ISO file to a CD with ISO burning software like FreeISOBurner: http://www.freeisoburner.com. There are also ways to put the UBCD onto a USB drive.

You will want to have a USB flash drive or external hard drive big enough to hold your recovered files. You'll use a program called TestDisk to see if we can find the old partition.

You don't need to download it from here, but this documentation will be helpful in using TestDisk:
http://www.cgsecurity.org/wiki/TestDisk

Good luck!

As a side note I should say it is ideal to backup your files to some medium other than your hard disk. CDs, DVDs, and external hard drives are best. Then, should anything happen to your computer's hard drive you don't have to tread quite so carefully to get your system up and running.

Hello and thanks for reading, A few days ago I asked a question about recovering my data from a broken Raid0 array but had no solutions suggested. I've muddled my way through to the point where win7 can now see my array as a single stripped disk set in Disk Management. However it's showing as RAW. Now I haven't reformatted the drives as my understanding is that this will cause me to lose all my data. So my question is really how to proceed? Is there a way to mount the drives without reformatting them and then attempt to recover the data that is still (hopefully) on them?
Thanks in advance!

I recently installed win xp-3. All went well until one day when I tried to open the drive D, it popped up "This disk in drive D is not formatted. Do you want to format now?" I store all photographs, Important documents, emails, etc.

I have not formatted the disk..

I had really very important data on that drive and I want it to recover/backup. I tried all the means.. I did some search on net, tried different kinds of data recovery software, but nothing worked out. please.. please.. help me recover my data..

I tried data recovery wizard program, which they said will recover raw partitions... but it failed.
I tried recover my files.. which also failed.
I tried testdisk, which failed. and many others.. but of no avail

In disk management, it shows Disk is healthy and it showing as:
Layout: partition
Type: Basic
File system: (showing nothing... it is blank... other drives showing NTFS)
Status: Healthy
capacity: 192.32
Free Space: 192.32
%free: 100%

My hdd is Seagate Barracuda 7200.12, 500 GB, Partition on D is 200 GB. Gegabyte motherboard

I will be very thankful somebody help me out......

If i am posting it in wrong forum or wrong way please change...

Well...there is no guarantee that any data-recovery program will be successful...as you have discovered.

The best program I have used costs and can be found at GetDataBack - Data Recovery Software - http://runtime.org/data-recovery-software.htm , but that doesn't mean that it will do the job for you.

Question: Recover Data

Hello,

I am running a Windows XP system and have a need to find the deletion date of some data on my HDD (NTFS journaled). The trick is I do not know what the data is, I do know the date. Windows seems to record the creation date, modification dates, but does not make a obvious record for deletion dates. What I want to find out is how to use my NTFS USN journal to tell me what HDD changes were made but I do not know how to read the hex data "fsinfo usn enumdata" spits out. Ideally I would export the whole thing into a file and look for info there but I do not know how to do that either and that would be a huge file. Nevertheless I will make a 250 MB file if I have to because it is vital I find this information.

Thanks in advance.

Hi guys, well already a lot has been said about how people by mistake delete without proper knowledge of using a computer (not being conclusive about anyone), and one such stupid error i committed. I still wish to ask this question as i am desperate for a solution if there's any. I was transferring images from my samsung monte mobile phone internal memory and like a dumbass i cut the folder and pasted it on my pc hard drive unfortunaltely the process got stuck with some 20seconds left and i canceled it (what a brilliant thing to do) and later the files got pasted with a few photos missing so here comes mistake no 3 i deleted the folder which was already pasted and went back to check the folder on my phone memory but it was nowhere to be found hence i wish to know is there a way to recover the files. Just a little help guys....

Answer:can i to recover data

vishwanath23, there're a number of 'recover' proggies around. An item isn't actually erased from a drive. All that actually happens is that the space it occupied in memory is marked as available for use and nothing is actually changed until the data is overwritten. So long as you haven't saved anything, you should be fine and even if you've overwritten the memory area, you may be able to recover part of your data. I have an interesting situation. I have an old business computer that is running DOS on an IBM PS/2 Model 80 (20 years old). I need to get the data off of it! I'd like to just suck all the info off of the drive on to a new machine...I can take it from there. The problem is there is now way to get info off the system that I can think of. The Hard Drive is not IDE...it is the old IMB Microchannel system. The microchannel Floppy drive is bad. No network card. No Modem. Thought of a Lap Link cable transfer, but I have no way to load the software onto the dos machine to enable that. Any one have a work around?

Question: recover data

I recently reformatted my computer, but for some reason, it formatted both my regular drive that I wanted to format, and my backup drive with all my data. I was wondering if there is going to be an "easy" and "free" method of recovering the data, specifically, reversing it back to the same condition it was in before the reformat.

Thanks!

Answer:recover data

No, sorry. Nothing particuarly easy but there are some choices. You can try a number of freeware apps such as this: http://officerecovery.com/freeundelete/ providing all you did was reformat and did not do anything else. I haven't used this but it was recommended once before here. It's for the NTFS file system. What file system was this drive?

I've used PCInspector and it's a fine tool but that was for recovering specific files not an entire drive's contents.

Question: Recover data

I have a dell inspiron 6000 with windows XP PRO (NTFS) installed and the computer hangs up during boot up. The hard drive seems to be corrupt. I read some of the sticky threads out here and the best option seems is to try and run the Maxtor Powerblast. However I fear losing some important data in my D and E drives on the harddisk. Is there any way I can boot into DOS copy some important data over to my external hardrive (connected through firewire) and then try this utility up. I tried Recovery console but I get an access is denied on most of the dos commands. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Answer:Recover data

The absolute safest option is to remove the HardDrive and using a notebook to PC connector (they're usually about $1 on ebay) plug it into a Desktop computer as "Slave" (ie where the CD/DVD usually goes) and backup (using just explorer) from there.

I turned my USB drive into a bootable USB drive. The problem is, I turned the wrong one, the one with all my important files on it.

I would like to know if I could recover the files on my USB, but that isn't the biggest problem - because it's a bootable drive now, Vista does not sense it as a USB hard drive, it does not appear.

How can I get my data back?

After splitting C: drive into two partitions by disk management tool, i am facing following problems:
1. Start up/boot problem (Windows 7 not started)
2. one old partition is hidden

i made many different attempt to solve the issue but failed.

in my last attempt, i install new windows 7 at new partition
this time my old partition has gone to hide but it is viewable only in disk management tool; it is not active here

kindly help me to recover my old data which is placed at old partition.

thanking you in anticipation

Answer:want help to recover data

Did you (1) try unhiding the partition using Disk Management, or (2) assigning it a drive letter using Disk Management?

If both of these fail, you will need to use a data recovery app to get your data back. Is that what you are asking to do?

Okay, A few months ago I had a major shut down on my previous Laptop, it turned to mush, it slowly got worse and worse and the monitor went, blue screened about 5 times an hour and was just overused, in fairness I got it second hand and it was already 3 years old, but they had it fixed up before giving it to me, new pieces inside the computer, extra ram and settings, etc etc.

Anyway I've given up on getting it fixed at this point in time.

I do have a couple things on there, saved to the Desktop and other Folders such as Pictures n Such and other things I needed for work, I managed to remake most of it, and then silly me only had them on a USB I'd been using about a month and it stopped working, plug it into the computer and Nada, the Charger Port is even gone and I can't get it turned on for a minute, if I move the laptop even an inch the screen shows sections of rectangles all along it in funky colors until it just comes up black, dark black as if the computer's off.

So here's my question finally, is there a way for me to get my files from that computer and hook it up to my new one as like a storage device so I can get my stuff off of it? and hopefully not any viruses <.<"

Oh and as a side question, Is there any way to get my files off my USB that just stopped working, as I lost about 70% of my work[Again], I don't need it urgently or anything, it would just be nice to have it all back.

Answer:Can I recover my data?

If a USB stick stops working, it's pretty much bye-bye. There are of course some things you can do, but I'm not going to bother explaining them as I don't believe it will help you.

As for your laptop hard drive: the question is, is it SATA? This is the power/data connectors on the harddrive.

It could be as simple as pulling out the HDD, and plugging it into another desktop computer. Or, into a USB HDD dock.

I have a computer that will not boot even in safe mode for some reason. I tried to repair the OS (XP Home ed.) and 75 % through it hangs up and says that the repair cannot be completed. I would just assume reformat the drive aqnd do a fresh install but there are a bunch of pictures on there I wanna get first. I am wondering if I can hook up the problematic drive to my other pc which is just fine running XP pro SP2 as a slave and be able to look through the files and copy them to me good computer to burn them on dvd so I won't run into this again. I know there has to be aprogram that allows you to examine files on a hard drive that won't boot or is currupt from a good PC and explore files so as to recover them , anyone have any suggestions? Thanks

How to Recover Data?

Answer:How to Recover Data

Hi carlo67

not acceptable usually has some issues with the MBR...it can be repaired sometimes, but to recovery data first is more safer, after the data is back you can then choose to repaire or format or whatever. I myself use the Easeus backup software which is great, but noticed that they have recently got a beta version of the Data Recovery software, it seems simple yet efficient, you could also try just click out and download there, but the first thing after you recover the data, make sure you do backup regularily, also Macrium is a fine backup freebie, it's the safe way and much more easier when there is anything.

I have recorded movie on a mini DVD -RW through Sony handycam, I need to finalize this disk(in camera) before I can use this disk anywhere else i.e. DVD player etc. but I took out without finalizing it and use it in a laptop with windows7, when I put in the dvd drive of the laptop I got an option to use this dvd like USB and as I choose this option, it started to format it, and I suspected something wrong and ejected the disk out, now I cannot see any data in the disk whether on camera or computer.
Before also many times I took out the disk from the camera without finalizing it but I put it back in the camera and can finalize it to use anywhere else.

2. Quick format? (Windows)
3. Full format (off of windows also)

What would be the best way to make sure no data recovery center can retrieve it?

WINDOWS XP BTW.

Answer:Possible to recover data?

Is it POSSIBLE yes. Is it EASY? NO. Except for the quick format, which just formats the file allocation table (or whatever it is called in NTFS).

THis is why people have devised programs like DBAN.

Hi people,

This is my first post on this forum so please bear with me!

My question is:
I have a new notebook and I have used windows bit-locker to lock up the C drive. My notebook didn't come with a TPM chip so I used a work around to get it working by using a flash drive with the keys installed on it at the boot process.

However Ive installed VMware and its taken up a lot of space on drive C. what I want to do now is allocate some of the free space on the D: drive to the C drive, if that makes sense?

Just to clarify my D: drive has no bit-locker encryption on it, but my C: drive does.

Want I want to know is can i just use a partition tool to give the C drive some more space or will this cause problems as its using the bit-locker software?

Also if I can do this, whats the best partition tool to use?

Many thanks in advance,

Carlo.

Cant find anything in the search about it but is it safe to partition my Surface Pro 4 drive that is bitlocked? I want to create a data partition for stuff I don't want to clutter the C drive with to make backing up easier.

Answer:Safe to Partiton my Bitlocked Surface Pro 4

Okay I will answer my own question. I decided against it and decrypted the drive by turning it off. I then used Ease Partition software to shrink C and create a new partition. The windows drive manager would not shrink it saying not enough drive space.
Can now turn bitlocker back on if I need it.

Ok, I did a bad bad thing. I switched my mom's computer with mine to get back at her for using my comptuer for years and making it bascially crap. So i switched our computers. I made them look exactly the same.. except i completely forgot about saved files etc etc. How can I revive files that I have deleted? These are very very important files. You have no idea how important this is. I have to get these files for her because she has a paper due tomorrow. I'm not about to let her fail a class because of something stupid i've done. Hi!

I am in the process of trying to recover data from a SATA drive. Ultimately I would like it to be a temporary Slave drive so that I can get the data.

OS is XP Pro and System has IDE Master & Slave already.

During boot the SATA drive is detected however then a RAID menu comes up to create RAID.

Since I would like to preserve the data on the drive, I am reluctant to set up RAID. I really do not want to do that.

Any guidance is Appreciated!!
THX!

Answer:Recover data from SATA hd

In your BIOS there should be a place to turn RAID off for sata drives, then you'll be able to use it as a single drive.

My dell laptop HD crushed. I sent it to one of online HD recovery program and was willing to pay $2k. However they could not fix it in their laboratory due to the "mechanical problem" of the disk.

I would like to try another recovery service. Which online HD recovery companies do you recommend?

Thanks

Answer:Recover data from a broken HD

you might be able to recover the data yourself if the hdd is not badly damaged.

you could take it out of the laptop and hook it up to a desktop as a secondary data drive and see what you can recover.

edit: $2k??, as in $2000?

My old hdd was used to run Windows XP Pro, where my profile was password protect and set for private. Since replacing that crashed pc with a new 1 that runs Windows Media Center I have been able to recover all except the data listed under my account's My Documents. When I scroll over it it says folder empty. When I click on it it says access denied (something like that). How can I retrieve this data. I tried some freeware I found online, but all it did was locate previously deleted files to recover. I want to recover stuff not previously deleted.
Any help or suggestions, other than shell out big bucks, would be greatly appreciated.
Thanx

my laptop hdd is not visible in windows wehn i connect via usb to sata. the laptop wont boot so i thought to connect to another pc and recover data. the hdd is shown in windows but only as a drive letter windows or dos both cannot read from it. help pls!

Answer:recover my data from laptop hdd

The fact that it shows with a drive letter is good news, means the drive is probably physically OK
Bad news is the file structure is corrupt
first try check disk on it
type
chkdsk /f /r x:
in the search box where x is the drive letter of the usb connected drive.

In a bonehead move by me I unpartioned a flash drive I had that had a lot of stuff on it that I'm not sure was backed up. I haven't formatted the thing yet but is there software to recover the photos that were on there?

Answer:Recover unpartioned data

TestDisk would be my first recommendation but, it's not quite a point-click type operation.

If you recreate the partition precisely as it was before (I'm going to assume the entire USB stick was one big partition), and you do a QuickFormat - it MUST be a QuickFormat - of the exact same file system without any alterations of the cluster sizes, etc, that as soon as you're done and you unplug/plug the drive it, the contents that exist on the drive may (and that's the iffy part) reappear as accessible files.

It sounds odd but, it actually works in more cases than not but it's up to you. You'll need data recovery software if you decide to pass on that method, and that's was TestDisk is. Not all "data recovery" software works as advertised; most of it is just designed to locate files that were sent to the Recycle Bin and deleted from there because Windows still keeps a record of the files as long as they went to the Recycle Bin first.

But that's not the situation you're in because of the entire deletion of the partition info itself, hence data recovery is necessary now with a tool that actually does such a task.

GetDataBack is another one that gets recommended frequently but it's commercial software and the trial version doesn't get the data back, just locates it and tells you if it's recoverable. TestDisk is open source, free, and does it all.

Any suggestions on how to recover data from a failed hdd without paying a service?

Specs: P4 1.6, 640 RAM, 30 G, Inspiron 8200
The Dell folks will replace the hdd still under warranty; but, the data wasn't backed up recently.

Symptoms:
Computer left on overnight, in the morning BSOD (unknown error message, I'm afraid). User turned off the computer and when turned back on no primary hard drive found and no optical disk found.

Tried connecting the cd-rom, or just the hd, thinking the motherboard, or cable is bad/loose but it's a lappy and can't get the cover off. Dell indicated the optical disk would be recognized if the HD was present.
Suggestions greatly appreciated.

G.

Answer:Need to Recover Data from Failed HDD

There are a couple of programs that will let you recover, there a few off the the top of my head 1 is Spinrite http://grc.com/intro.htm / Partition Magic, RecoverNT 3.5 even ghost may let you create and image then let you rip into with ghost explorer. Unforturnately none are free You maybe able to pull something off with a trial version or a demo.

Hi,

I have an HP's laptop Nx7010. Recently I defragmented the D Drive (Operating System's Drive). After successful completion I began using it normally. At a certain point it started loading something and kept the reading/writing of the harddisk so much that the system went really slow and I couldn't do anything. After a while I shutted the laptop abnormally (by pressing the power buttton and holding it till it's off) and started it again. When the system booted the first time it just stuck. I restarted again and it booted but as soon as windows began the loading started again and it went for 5-6 hours. Then I hibernated the laptop and the next day when i started my laptop the message appears that the C Drive is not formatted. Do u want to format it????. Windows shows it as an unformatted partition. There is a lot of data there in C Drive. I really don't want to lose it. What do I do to recover it?

Answer:How to recover my data partition

If not then it is still possible to recover your Data?

Ok so I had some files on this hard drive now which didnt have an os and was part of another os until that crashed. So I booted to linux live and it showed the files i had on here so I installed linux thinking I could still be able to access them. When it said there was data and asked if i wanted to mount it i said no because i still needed those files so it created another primary partition with no filesystem so i uninstalled linux and installed windows 7 and in the disk management it shows up as a basic primary partition for 4.96 gb which is about how much data is on there but there is no filesystem and the only thing i can do with it is delete it. I have tried testdisk and i cannot seem to access the partition. i tried using linux live cd to recover them and it dosnt work on that either. someone please help me recover these. i have a paper i need for school to graduate on there.

Answer:recover partition with data on it

You installed Linux to a disk that had data that you wanted to recover ? What OS was on the disk that was part of the other OS ? maybe you could break down the steps a little more and add missing info like the OS versions partitions etc. You can also try r-studio and "get back data" to scan the drive for the missing data however I fear you overwrote the space when you installed Linux on the drive if I have followed your information correctly.
