Preferred Solution: Avast New Beta Version 17.7.2313

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi all,
sorry for the delay with this beta, but it's finally here. We are now busy working on integration with AVG but I hope you will like the changes coming early next year (and yes HIPS included (wink) ) Main purpose of this beta to test its stability and get your feedback on the new UI. We didn't changed just the "face" but also the framework behind the UI so it gives us now much more flexibility in fixing various issues and bugs in the UI much faster than before.

We listened to the feedback, so there won't be color difference between Free and paid versions and all will be dark. Navigation moved back to the left side, and the window is now larger. We know it's not perfect now and we will work hard in the upcoming weeks to polish it for release quality.

Newest beta version: 12.4.2281

Changes:
+ Fully new UI framework with modern graphics
+ Removed screensaver and desktop gadget
+ Huge internal changes for product stabilization

Download links:
- BETA testing - Overview & Download links
Known issues:
+ Some UI parts are not fully finished yet, excuse glitches
+ SmartScan and Browser Cleanup not finished
+ UI glitches in some expiration messaging dialogs
+ Web shield problems on Win 10 internal preview
+ Passwords synchronization setup flows are broken

Share your feedback and opinions about the new UI here.

What version of Vista is Vista Beta RC1 a beta version of? Ultimate? This is the first beta of Vista that I have installed.

Thanks.

Answer:Vista beta is beta of what version?

Yes RC1 is Vista Ultimate. If you setup user accounts /w password and not automatically logging in then you see that right at the bottom of the logon screen. As well as under the system properties. Actually there quite a few places that displays it.

Have fun with it and give as much feedback to Microsoft as possible.

Help my advent 2313 duel boots win 7 win 8.1 and has an upgraded nvidia gtx650.
Recently it has just stated to boot twice. It boots up and immeadiately shuts down then re boots and works fine. Sometimes however it does a disk check which always comes up clean.
I have tried replacing cmos battery but it has made no difference. I have also reset bios to default though it has never been overclocked but the problem persists. All leads seem secure and I am lost as to what to check next. 12 Gig of ram seems okay and the computer runs fine otherwise.
Anyone have any ideas?

Someone I work with brought in a friends computer because it was essentially toast due to viruses/trojans/etc.

My coworker swears by AVG and has it loaded on all his systems. So he installed the latest version and did a scan. AVG found a ton of stuff. No problems. But, the computer was still slow and there were still numerous issues.

I finally convinced him to take Avast Beta 5 for a spin on the system. After a full system scan, Avast found 126 pieces of malware, including trojans and more, after AVG said the system was clean.

I realize this could happen with basically any two anti virus apps, the point is, AVG simply is not good enough IMO and too many people rely on it because it is free and the most popular free anti virus solution.

If you are looking for free, my advice would be to give Avast serious consideration. Microsoft Security Essentials is also an excellent choice, although we did not install and scan the system with MSE. We did however load Malwarebytes to see if Avast had missed anything and Malwarebytes did not find a single thing after Avast had cleaned the system. Very impressed with Avast.

I'm all about Avast too. I just got done cleaning out a machine that AVG too said was "clean". Avast cleaned it right out.

Our local computer guys are all pro AVG, funny how people come to me (at work) with all their problems in one way or another leaning towards AVG.

Question: Avast for Mac Beta

We're glad to announce a new major version of "avast! Free Antivirus for Mac". The current popularity of Apple products also makes them more interesting for the bad guys so we thought it would be good to prepare for the battle sooner rather than later. The new version has been almost totally reworked compared with our previous solution for the Mac OS.

We're kicking off with three shields and an on-demand scan. The Web Shield together with the Mail Shield will check the vast majority of incoming data from the Internet. avast! Free Antivirus for Mac is also equipped with a File Shield, which scans all programs stored and executed from your hard drive. Everything is packed in a brand new GUI and is now available as a public beta.

Features:

On-demand scanning: It's possible to scan the whole file system, network volumes or a mounted removable volume. You can also run a custom scan. Scan reports are automatically archived and are accessible from the GUI at anytime.
On-screen alerts: Alert messages are displayed on-screen whenever a threat is detected.
File Shield: The File Shield scans the binaries of started applications and all files at the time they are modified.
Web Shield: The Web Shield monitors and filters all HTTP traffic coming from web sites on the Internet. Connections from your web browser are redirected to the Web Shield module. The Web Shield in turn connects to the requested web server and while downloading the content, it simultaneously ... Read more

Answer:Avast for Mac Beta

Sounds nice, I think it'll really be useful considering the recent rogues that came out for Mac (and that Apple doesn't want to move a finger about it).

Question: Avast! 4.8 Beta!

I was looking around at geek U and found out about this. So I decided to share the glory at Bleeping Computer 4.8 is quite an important update for us.It contains the following major improvements: - a built-in antirootkit module - a built-in self-defense module - starting with v4.8, avast is now officially an antispyware application, too (CheckMark certified).Plus there's a number of not-so-big new features, such as the ability to track scan progress and a large number of improvements in both the scanning engine and other components (such as the boot-time scanner, and the updater).BTW This first beta build will be followed by another one (most likely in about a week). This is because it still doesn't contain some of the anti-rootkit functionality (so far, boot-time scan can be used to detect/remove rootkits; in the next beta, the GUI scanners will also feature antirootkit capabilities). Also, in this first version, we're still aware of some methods to bypass the self-defense module, and these are being worked on continuously. This especially applies to the ashDisp.exe process which is somewhat harder to protect than the rest (i.e. the avast services) as it shares the user's logon session and is thus more easily attackable.Like I said its still in beta but I must say, this is impressive and I think I'm going to try the beta. But I'd like to ask, has anyone else taken the plunge yet?I think when this is a stable release its going to be a real hit. And certainly will give AVG a ... Read more

Latest beta available here at MG, and the Avast program update won't complete installation. Even the Avast set-up is being sandboxed as a suspicious program. Moreover, Avast will not uninstall from add/remove programs. Neither will the last non-beta version install over the beta...something to do with the Avast set-up per Windows dialog box.

Answer:What's wrong with Avast AV beta

Perhaps there was a bug in a definition update, it's a Beta; have you checked with other Avast! Beta users on the Avast! forums?

What's sandboxing it? Why are you allowing it to be sandboxed if you trust it enough to download and intall it?

What other security software do you have that could be coming into play?

Have you tried the Avast! uninstaller?

Protection-related features and improvements:
New DeepScreen technology allows avast! to make more intelligent decisions about new/unknown files. DeepScreen is a successor of AutoSandbox, now upgraded with some additional new technologies such as dynamic binary translation and dyna-gen announced earlier.
New Hardened mode for stricter lockdown scenarios. This is a new mode that is recommended especially for novice users (such as your grandmas): it automatically blocks execution of binaries that would normally be deepscreened (Moderate level) or even allows only execution of programs that are well-known to FileRep (Aggressive level). In a way, it brings the whitelisting concept to the consumer AV space.
Improved cloud scanning features and crowdsourced analysis of suspicious items. This includes new, optimized mechanism for collecting data from our sensors.
Continuously streaming update (CSU) technology for up-to-minute detections. This is not entirely new for v2014, but we now have really buttoned up the whole streaming update infrastructure to allow for reliable, uninterrupted service. We?re currently doing 350-400 updates a day, which equals to one update in roughly every 3.75 minutes, 24x7, 365 days a year. Streaming updates can now also carry more types of definitions than before.
Improved cleaning of malware. This applies to standard malware as well as... Read more

One thing that I noticed in this release is that when I run the Browser Cleanup tool, it prompts me to reset my homepage to an Avast-customised Yahoo homepage or Bing :/. I did't ask it to reset my homepage, I just removed an addon. I don't like this at all.

** INTRODUCING: NEW BETA VERSION OF AVAST - 6.0.1351 **

Hi everyone,

we will soon be releasing a new program update of avast. As usual, we're making it available for public testing a few days before the official release. The current version number is 6.0.1351.

This is hopefully going to be a smooth service release, mainly designed to fix some of the issues of the previous v6.0 builds. It also moves us a bit closer to the release of v7, slated for Q1 2012.

Here's an [incomplete] list of the most important changes:
- Script Shield now works with Google Chrome, all versions of Firefox and Acrobat Reader
- Improvements in WebRep plugins (especially IE)
- Stability improvements in aswSP.sys and the avast! sandbox
- File system shield: improved on-close scanning
- avast! Internet Security: new antispam engine
- Web Shield and Script Shield: more options in the UI

The UI of the new version also includes the avast! Market, a new way to get info (and potentially try/buy) other avast products. This section can be hidden by disabling the avast! recommendation features in the avast! Community settings.

The content is not final yet - please take it like this.

Pro AV: http://files.avast.com/files/beta/6.0.1351/setup_av_pro.exe
IS: http://files.avast.com/files/beta/6.0.1351/setup_ais.exe

Hi,
I was using Comodo, but i'm really bored of bugs, the lack of update.
I was thinking about Avast, and I would like to beta test it. I saw some members are beta testing avast and know the product well.
I have some questions :
- Do you think avast Beta is stable ?
- I'm using Windows 10, it is fully compatible ? If not what is not compatible
- How can I become a beta-tester ?
- If I become a beta-tester, could I test Avast Internet Security for free ? Or will I need to buy a licence ?
- Can we ask devs to add something, and can we do some suggestions ?
- Does the beta slow the computer ?
And I think it's all haha

Answer:Some Questions about Avast Beta-testing

I'm testing it and I already know some things.
-It seems to be stable, sully compatible with windows 10 and adguard.
-To become a beta-tester just download the beta haha
-If you want to test Avast IS beta you'll need to buy a licence(not 100% sure)
-On Avast forum we can make some suggestions.
-It doesn't seems to slow the computer.
