Preferred Solution: Dell Latitude D600 Current Date Resets to The Default BIOS Date

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Dell Latitude D600 Current Date Resets to The Default BIOS Date

The coin cell battery on the motherboard that keeps time while the system is powered off is probably dead. Not too surprising given that the D600 is about 15 years old at this point. If you open the system up, it should be easy to find, so just note the type of battery, e.g. CR2032, and then buy that type of battery at any grocery/convenience store. Should only be about $2-3.

hard reset your phone using following steps :-
1. Turn off your Windows Phone. Use power button to power off the phone.
2. Press and hold Volume down key and connect the charger to phone. You will see a big exclamation mark on the screen.
3. Press these keys one after another in the same sequence. Volume Up, Volume Down, Power, Volume Down.
4. You will see the phone reset and boot normally. You will see wheel gears working on the screen. It will take few minutes.
Your phone will be reset to factory settings and you need to set up the phone again.
Or try to reset phone's setting if it is connected to Wi-Fi or data is enable through your account.

I'm working on a spreadsheet that lists monthly recurring expenses. I have one cell on the sheet listing the current date (using the "=Now()" formula), but I'd like to have the other cells change at certain times throughout the month.

For example, if one cell currently says "April-15", when the actual date reads "April-16", the respective cell would change to "June-15". This way, whenever the spreadsheet is viewed the next recurring payment date will be seen.

I know this is the wrong tool for something like this - I'm using SharePoint at the office with a calendar list with workflows that shoot off emails in a much better put together format - but this is just for home use and I'd like to keep it all in one document if possible.

Any ideas or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Answer:Excel 2010: Cell Date Change with Current Date

The way I read it was that you have fixed recurring payment dates, so you just want to know the next date based on the day today. Hope the attached might assist.
You need to list the payment dates somewhere and then the formula looks up the next date. You might want to look up today plus 1 (or something) to reflect the fact that if the next payment date is today, there's a good chance you'll not get any unplanned payments on that run.

Hi all,

Thanks for reading my post, any help would be greatly appreciated.

I was hoping someone could help get the BIOS password for the dell d600.

I was told by a few techies that if I were to post the

computer system #FFCGR61-595B

service tag ffcgr61

Express Service code 33579664777

that someone would be able to retrieve the BIOS password that i need to boot this laptop.

I'm having a difficult time removing the casing in order to remove the cmos battery and I'm afraid i'll cause some damage before i get any results..

So please, whoever out there knows how to retrieve such information dont hesitate to reply to this post, it would be grweatly appreciated, if you want to keep your identity discreet , email me at [email protected]

Thanks in advance.

Answer:BIOS Password? for Dell latitude D600

Hi and welcome to MajorGeeks.

Removing the cmos battery does NOT do anything on a laptop, only on desktops.

This is by design and is a safety measure.

I could give you the common Dell backdoor password, but why can't you contact either Dell or the previous owner?

I hope that someone will be able to help me with a BIOS password for a Dell D600.
The service tag is JGY741J-595B.
The HDD lock (of which I know the password) says #*****3MZ319-595B.

Story: I took the laptop over from my company when all computers were replaced by a newly hired service provider (IBM). The previous IT service provider had put in the password and left. Obviously these guys cannot be traced anymore to get the password or a bill for this particular laptop of a few years old (if existing, guess they bought them in one big order). So Dell does not help.

In fact it is not such a big problem, just annoying. Obviously I know the HDD password, deleted the old windows, ran FDISK to remove the DOS partition, and installed Linux Ubuntu from CD. The annoying thing is that I cannot change the date/time (is blocked).

Thanks if someone can help out.

Ruud

Hello. I have a cell on my spread sheet which calculates an earliest date due. The cell references other cells to achieve this and looks like this '=C51+(F8*7)' where cell C51 is a date field in the format DD/MM/CCYY and contains the date 26/12/2015. And cell F8 is a number field which contains the value '4'. This value '4' is indicating a number of weeks. So the calculation (F8*7) gets me the number of days and I then add those days to the date in cell C51 to get 23/01/2016.I want this cell to output the current date if the calculation above results in a date that is in the past. Can anyone tell me if there is a simple way to achieve this? Thank you.

Answer:Excel: Substitute a past date with the current date

If I understand you correctly, this should get you what you want:=IF("your calculation"< TODAY(),TODAY(),"your calculation")However, the TODAY() will update every day to always show the current date, assuming "your calculation" results in a date that is in the past.In other words, it will not lock in the first date it calculates. It will always display "today's" date.Is that what you want to see?One other issue: As explained at the link below, the TODAY() function is "volatile". That means that is will recalculate every time the sheet calculates, even if none of the arguments have changed. A large number of volatile functions can slow a worksheet down.https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/li...Volatile and Non-Volatile Functions

Excel supports the concept of a volatile function, that is,
one whose value cannot be assumed to be the same from one
moment to the next even if none of its arguments (if it
takes any) has changed. Excel reevaluates cells that contain
volatile functions, together with all dependents, every time
that it recalculates. For this reason, too much reliance on
volatile functions can make recalculation times slow. Use them
sparingly.

The following Excel functions are volatile:

NOW
TODAY
RAND
OFFSET
INDIRECT
INFO (depending on its arguments)

I've just moved "My Documents" contents from one laptop to another
I now find that some of the Word Documents are showing the current date in letters to customers that were created & dated months ago
As these letters are records documents sent out is there a way of preventing them opening with the current date

I've already checked, Wotd - Insert - Date & Time & the Automatic Updates box is unchecked

Thanks for any help

Answer:In Word the Original Date in a letter changes to current date

Is this the file modified date or the file created date? Moving the file will give it a new "modified" date.

Answer:Dell Latitude d630 BIOS usable on D600?

unless they are the same MB, I would seriously doubt that the BIOS are compatible. Also, are the bios not working on your current mobo? If they are working, there is no need to update.

Hello friends :-)

I just bought new Toshiba Satellite L-50-B (Skullcandy) laptop. After couple of days I read on internet if I want to save my battery I just need to remove it and work on AC power. I did that. My battery is attached with two screws. When my battery is removed I noticed one problem, my BIOS time is resetting every time I turn off the laptop. When I put the battery back, time is not resetting.
I tough maybe it was a CMOS battery? What do you think? I open it and I could not find the CMOS battery?????

Another question, why the battery is attached with two screws? I was wondering, maybe she is not meant to be deattached?

Hi! I wonder if anyone can help me with this as I have no idea what could be causing this. I have played with it so much I can be fairly precise about its behaviour so please excuse me if I overdo it on the description.

I have a Samsung RC-520 (less than a year old) which resets the time and date back to oct 2011 00:00 when rebooted. This only occurs if its been of for more than 5 seconds, any less and it remembers. I immediately assumed a dead BIOS battery was to blame and because the customer wrongly lead me to believe it was within warranty I dissasembled the laptop and replaced it. This did not solve the problem.

So here are the other things I have tried:

Reset BIOS back to default.
Updated to 'Firmware' 1.0.0.2 via windows installer.
Replaced hard drive, ram and removed optical drive (clutching straws )
Tried with battery out / without mains power.
Reset the time in Windows 7

Here are some things I have noticed:
To test whether or not the BIOS was resetting I changed the lower 3 boot orders from 4:USB FDD, 5:USB HDD, 6:NETWORK to 4:NETWORK, 5:USB FDD, 6:USB HDD. This does not change, so as far as I know, only the time and date do.
If the time/date reset (laptop off for more than 5 secs) then the laptop does not start properly 1st time. Instead I get a blank screen and the power led lights and that's it for 15 secs. After that the power button led comes on and I hear the optical drive engage but still nothing on screen. So then I have to hold the pow... Read more

Well this is a blast from the past.  I have a Dell Dimension 9150 circa 2006, with 3 gigs DDR2 Ram, an Pentium D Dual core CPU, a 1 TB Western Digital HD and the original AMD/ATI RV620 LE [Radeon HD 3450] video card.  It's still running fine, but last week I noticed the date & time was wrong.  I figured perhaps maybe it was time to change the CR-2032 battery.  I mean after 10 years, the thing might have gone bad. ;)
So I put a new one in & re-set up the BIOS settings, and here's the rub, the time will still sort of keep changing.  By that I mean the Minutes & Seconds will usually always be right, but the Hour will change & also it will change from AM to PM & Visa-Versa.  But no other BIOS settings are affected.
This only happens when I'm in the BIOS.
I have Ubuntu-MATE 16.04 LTS on it, and the time/date are always correct, (I'm guessing because the clock is set to use an Internet Time server instead of the computers)
As this seems to be the only problem on a 10 year old Dell, is there anything to really worry about?  Everything else is working fine, just this one small thing in the BIOS that I hardly ever see anyway. ;)
One other thing, is there any Linux program I can download just in case a miracle happens & Dell releases a new chipset driver or BIOS update?  I did find this in the Ubuntu repository:

firmware-tools plugin to handle BIOS/Firmware for Dell systems: The firmware-addon-dell p... Read more

I have just replaced a hardrive in a dell latitude D600 and after an install of XP I can?t find the required drivers for the internal wifi card or the network card. I have looked at the device manager and under ?other device? Ethernet controller and network controller have the yellow question mark. I have tried all of the recommended drivers from the dell support site but the problem persists. As a work around I am currently connected via wifi using an external usb stick but I need to use this laptop in a wifi free zone but it does have Ethernet.

Any ideas gratefully received.

Hi

Did you install the Intel chipset driver first, then reboot and then install the WiFi and LAN network drivers? give that a go and see if it works.

Plus follow the below to give us a hardware log so we can see what network cards they have installed as their are a few,

Download and install Everest to find this info, at times a summary log of your PC can help, to do this

Install Everest and run
Click Report (top menu) > Report Wizard > Next
Choose System Summary Only > Next
Choose Plain Text > Finish and wait for report to generate
Click Save to File and leave the File Name as Report, then click the Save as Type dropdown and choose Report files (*txt) and click Save (n.b. Save to desktop is best as easy place to find it, use Browse to locate desktop)

Then attach your log to your next post as per these instructions HOW TO: Attach Items To Your Post Click to expand...

Should also be able to get the exact drivers for your Dell if you enter the asset tag code that should have come with the PC, could be on the bottom on a sticky label as that narrows the exact build of your pc down.

Question: Latitude D600 BIOS

Anyone know where to get an unlocked set of BIOS?

I have a few issues with ram speed, clocking and cpu settings

Currently the base setup is OE w/1.4 ghz Intel 738 cpu w/400 bus.
http://www.intel.com/products/processor_number/chart/pentium_m.htm

From what I have learned so far is this;

Chipset, Intel 855PM
http://www.intel.com/products/notebook/chipsets/855pm/855pm-overview.htm

"Support for up to 2 GB of DDR 333/266/200 memory"

I have (2) 1gig PC2700's installed but the machine is running them at 266 not 333.

I recentlly bought an Intel 765 2.1ghz cpu w/400 bus.
http://www.intel.com/products/processor_number/chart/pentium_m.htm

What is it going to take to get this thing to run at full speed?

BTW, Is it possable to install some DDR400 PC3200 ram and get the chipset to run the ram at full bus speed? (Figuring on cpu bus of 400 and ram of 400)

Any help would be greatly appreciated...
Thanks.

You need a caddy/adapter that includes a 2.5" IDE (laptop) connector.Yours probably only has 3.5 (desktop)

Hi ALL, I am in dire need of some help so I can hopefully fix this laptop before I leave abroad Monday.

I bought this laptop about a year ago, and a few months ago a cd walkman (of ALL things) fell onto the keyboard and smacked it really hard. It pretty much broke the toshiba hard drive inside, (i know next to nothing about hard drives) but I KNEW it broke because of the constant clicking/squeaking and beeps.. thus resulting in me buying a new hard drive from Ebay, from an ad stating it was a hard drive compatible for the d600. So I went ahead and took out the caddy, carefully slid out the old hard drive and slid the new one in. Screwed it shut, made sure everything was in place and of course I boot up, the primary hard drive is showing a big 0 and cannot boot. I boot to windows xp disc, and it will not download onto the hard drive because it is showing up as missing, and showing up as NONE in bios where it says PRIMARY HARD DRIVE. I really did not know what to do. I went into bios and reset the bios, nothing. I opened up the case as somebody mentioned to me to take the battery off of the mother board and put it back on again to erase prior CMOS(?) and I could not even find where the battery plugs onto the mother board to take it off (just two wires, god knows where they connect). I was also told to check the jumpers. I found NO jumpers. I saw where the hard drive plugs to the mother board on that lil caddy but did not find any jumper cables. I also did the Diagnostic test, ... Read more

You can't assume a drive is good just because it's new.
OTH, the fact you can't detect even the old drive suggests you've connected something incorrectly, or there was additional damage from the Walkman crash.
I suggest you start over and double-check all the connectors.

Also, when I hold down the power button, and windows button all the lights go on, then the battery light goes red, and then the computer starts to run. A little less than a year ago I got ripped off on a refurbished Dell Latitude D600. I traded in my pretty much brand new LG 19'' widescreen LCD which was about $200. And my HP Slimline with all the extra stuff included like a burner, laser lightscribe, multi memory card reader, ect...it cost me around $500. The PC was about a year old. Well I traded those things in for this laptop AND paid $300 cash. My girlfriend said not to do it, but the I've known the guy for years. I thought okay well he knows more about computers than I do...considering he has his own computer business. So I did it. Initially the laptop came with Linux and shortly after I had it replaced with Windows XP. Within the first month my hard drive failed and they made me pay about $80 to replace it. They then told me they were not able to pull any data from it. Some how something happened and the screen had to be replaced so they replaced it with a screen that doesn't even fit! It is too big for the laptop so it doesn't close and obviously that keeps it from being able to hibernate or anything-correct? Well they told me it was only cosmetic, that I would never have any problems. Wrong. The left side snapped-not just the hinge-some freakin part under that strip that covers the power button and volume. A guy told me the other day that part can't even be fixed without replacing the casing! On top of alllll of that....

Also some internet pages i try to browse dont show up correctly and there is a small symbol in the bottom left corner above 'start' with a yellow triangle containing an exclamation mark. I have been informed that it is a type of driver i need, however i dont know if this is correct or if so, which one i need and where i get it from. Any help is greatly appreciated!!

Answer:monitor of dell latitude d600

Looks like you changed the way the GPU scales lower resolution images, probably in the BIOS or a keyboard shortcut. Try changing it via your graphics card's settings panel if it has one (nVidia Control Panel, ATi Catalyst) or go in your BIOS and look for it.

Hi,
A friend (honest) has the above notebook which he bought second-hand. He used the machine without problems for one year.
He upgraded to Ms Windows XP sr2 but about a month later when booting the machine it displayed -
Hard-disk #***********-595B, the system Primary HDD, is protected by password authentication system. You cannot access data on this hard drive without the correct password.
He tells me that he did not even know that the computer had a hard disk password system and he has never set any passwords on it at all. He has many pictures on the disk which he hopes not to lose.
I cannot find a solution on either the Dell or Hitachi websites and haven't been able to reach Dell by telephone since mid December but a Google search led me here. I have seen replies from Rustam providing generated passwords but his/her private mailbox is full.

Is anybody able to provide me with the HDD password please, the machine details are -
BIOS rev A14
system number #83P7H1J-595B
service tag 83P7H1J
disk s/n MPAA22QBGRSHYB

If the disk can be unlocked, is it better to create a master password and a new HDD password or disable all passwords (in case this happens again)

best wishes and a happy new year
Richard

Answer:Dell Latitude d600 HDD locked

Hi

Its unlikely adding XP would set a password, your friend or someone must have set it.

Rustam isnt here anymore, your only choice is to go to my site and find the link for repair station, a website that offers remote unlocking of drives, they charge and dont cover all models.

Good luck

My laptop has been acting up lately. I will be working and suddenly the system will freeze. No matter what I do, there will be no response. Cntl+Alt+Delete does not work. I have to press the power button to turn off the laptop. Sometimes, when it boots up, it gives me the blue screen asking if it should use the last restore or reboot normal. I always reboot normal. Sometimes the reboot will hang too and I will have to turn off the laptop by pressing the power button. Sometimes everything will be OK. Can it be my harddrive is dying? I also notice for the past week that my NOD32 has been abending. Can this be a software issue and not XP or my harddrive?

System: Dell Latitude D600 XP Pro SP3

Thanks for your help.

I got an older laptop from my aunt. I finally found a working AC adapter for it and plugged the laptop in and wait a few minutes, then I tried to turn it on, it caused a light in the shape of a battery to turn on. Pressing the button on the battery reveals that all 5 lights come on, so I assume the battery is charged. What happened?

Whenever i turn my windows7 pc on, it tells me to set the time and date settings. After a google search it's mostly likely my CMOS battery is dead, so i bought one off ebay and installed it but i'm still having the same time and date errors...

Can anybody help?

Answer:Time and date resets when i restart the pc?

Did you go into Bios setup during Boot-up, and set the date & time for your time zone, there first. Then when in Windows set it to the same date & time as the Bios setting.

Whenever I boot my PC, the date is always a year from the current date. I go into the date and time settings and reset it, but the next time I start the machine a year has been added. The same thing occurs if the PC is on past midnight. At 11:59:59 the date will be 1-29-2001, but then it becomes 1-30-2002.

This is a 3-month old Gateway P933. Gateway says this is 'impossible' and that some software must be setting the date incorrectly. I've run 2 virus checkers (nothing found) and don't have any unusual programs running automatically. I KNOW that this IS possible because it's happening. What are some possible causes.

Thanks

I recently bought a refurbished x61s.  If I remove the battery when the power cord is not connected, the date re-sets to 1988.  All is OK when I manually re-set the date, and if either battery or power cord is attached, nothing happens.  Does this indicate a dying CMOS battery?  Thanks,Hoge

Ok I am a system administrator for a small business and for some reason this one issue really has me pretty baffled. One of our customers who purchases a phone system from us has been using a windows 7 pc as the admin computer to view the status of their call center.

However this computer constantly resets the date and time to December 31, 1999. At first I thought maybe the date and time info was being stored on the cmos and it was bad. A replacement didnt fix it and I found out that this ALWAYS happens at exactly 7:00 PM on the 15th of every single month. It also appears that it is not a scheduled task or a software. Any ideas?

Thanks

I have a perplexing problem. Sometimes when I restart, usually after the system's been on for a long time, the date and time reset. When this happens, it may be important to note that some of my icons in the system trey are missing, replaced by blank spaces in between the existing icons, which are spread out almost halfway to the Windows start orb. While I've heard and read that a resetting clock/date is caused by a bad CMOS battery, there are a few reasons I don't think this is the problem.

1. It only resets sometimes. After it happens, I set the time and restart and it remembers (and systrey icons are ok). It also remembers if I enter BIOS menu on start up and enter date/time.
2. The system trey icon situation, I've never read about CMOS batteries causing this.
3. The laptop is under a year old, and most cases like this occur after prolonged use of the CMOS battery.
4. Windows takes nearly 10 minutes to restart.

I'm also hoping the CMOS battery isn't the problem because Gateway decided to hide it really deep. I'll have to disassemble the entire laptop to access it and I'm not nearly confident enough in my computer abilities to do so, all I've ever done is add RAM (not to this machine, so it's not the problem here. I work on my laptop/the internet so I cannot afford to ruin it by trying and failing. Plus, I don't even know what kind of CMOS battery I'll need.

AVG Internet Security 2012 didn't detect any problems but I hated it so I just installed Vipre and it's currently ... Read more

Answer:date/time resets on SOME restarts

Hi-

Does the system tray icon problem only occur when the clock is messed up? as it may be two problems. Also, this only occurs when the system is on for a long time, or did you mean off? as that would most likely point to CMOS battery (i would think).

I have a Dell Latitude D 600 laptop that was given to me a long time ago. The Laptop originally came with Windows XP Home Edition. I had upgraded it to Windows 7 and it was running really well. Then I did something stupid, I installed Windows 8 on the hard drive and the CPU will not run it. I recently bought a Windows XP Home Edition Disk and installed it. I have the original unlock code, but I was not asked for it. Windows XP did install but I can't setup a network connection to access the internet because the drivers are missing. It appears that Dell still has everything out there, but I need to access the internet to get to Dell. I can download to a thumb drive and install from that, but I don't know what I need to get. Hi All,
I have a Dell Latitude D600 laptop pcwith Windows XP on it. It was given to me by a friend.

Problem I am having with it is that the password I have been given won't work on it.
I think it is administration password controlled as I can't even access the BIOS section that allows me to choose between hard-drive, CD or other booting technique.

I wouldn't say that there was anything valuable in there so I would happily swipe the laptop clean and start afresh with a new factory reset installation.

I have looked up Dell's website and can't find a recovery program for this make and the laptop never came with any disks.

Can anybody help me with some links or advice for getting this computer swiped?

Cheers.

Answer:Dell Latitude D600 Password Requirement

If you can't access the boot options, then there's a BIOS password that's been set. It's completely different/separate from the Windows Administrative password.

I've been searching for methods to reset the BIOS password on your model, and it seems that your model is a "tough dog" and I haven't been able to find anything definitive yet. But, I'll keep looking.

Hi guys I've got a Dell D600 laptop just finished reinstalling all the software, drivers etc. come accross a bit of a problem, if I install the video driver (ati mobility 9000)
then the laptop will only output video to an external monitor. It boots up windows splash screen etc on the laptops screen but then as soon as windows kicks in the screen goes black and it switches to the VGA port on the laptop.

However If i then go into safe mode and uninstall the driver the laptop will then boot as normal.

The laptop used to belong to an office and was mostly sat in a docking station could this be a factor?

Ive tried FN + F8 and its not doing anything other than making a black line on the screen, any ideas ?

Cheeeeeers!

Answer:Dell Latitude D600 video problem

try entering the bios setup by pressing f2 during the boot post screen.
there is an option to set the default video output (something like onboard / docking - depends on the model).

I believe I have a Dell wireless (Braodcom) 1350 mini PCI card installed but at times the device manager will read Tru mobile 1300 and the 570x gigabit integrated controller card will just not be there sometimes. You might be having conflicts between the Dell card and the Tru mobile as both are wireless. The gigabit controller is for your wired connection only.
Go into Device Manager and disable the Tru mobile 1300 and see if that stops the problem.
You also might check to make sure only 1 wireless connection application is running at start up. You can check your running services in Task Manager after start up.

Hi thomas15, welcome to the forums.

There have been reports that this error can be caused by SATA motherboard drivers. If you can get into the BIOS (usually Del or F1 on startup) you should be able to disable IDE Emulation. This has worked in some cases & is worth a try.

My D600 is getting very hot over the hard drive. I purchased another one and it too is getting hot. So hot that it's uncomfortable to type much.

I spoke with a couple local computer store owners and got two answers. One told me that the HD was going bad. That's why I bought another one. The other told me that was Normal with Dell's, especially the Latitude series.

Now what? I've had this computer since 2006 and I don't remember it getting this hot until just the last several months.

Any advise? Is it a bad hard drive or just the Latitude itself?

What would you do if it were yours?

Hi Everyone! I thought I would trying posting a question before blowing more money on used computers! I bought this cool little Dell D600 that may have been over priced for $475.00 that has no internal wireless or CD writer! It's a P4 1.6 with 512 Memory and a 30 Gig Hard Drive that had XP Pro with Office 2007 and Adobe Pro with a great McAfree Virus scan program. It was working great until the small hard drive filled up and started that clicking sound before a hard drive crashes. I don't know if I blew it by filling the drive up or if it was a bad drive. This laptop was suppose to be refurbished too.

Anyways, having had buyers remorse over a used computer that no longer works after a few days, and knowing I could have bought a Compaq AMD Athlon Dual Core for $75.00 more do you guys think it's worth fixing my Dell? The only reason I bought this Dell is because I have a Dell now and wanted XP, not Vista. The Compaq Dual Core has Vista and I don't really care for Compaq. So do you guys think its worth fixing this Dell or do you think I should see if I can get the Compaq with Vista. Are Compaq's still that bad? Is Vista really that bad? Or do you think its worth fixing this Dell even though it would cost as much as a new Compaq Athlon Dual Core even though I don't care for Compaqs and may be a stripped down Compaq. Sounds dumb but anything would help.

I am trying to fix a friends Dell D600 Latitude Laptop.

They are not very good with computers, and they thought it had a virus so gave it to me to look at.

But when i try to turn it on all the lights light up and it makes a sound like it is going to boot, but doesnt actually boot up. The screen is completely blank. I have taken out the memory and put it back in, tried pressing every F button and using Fn which some people suggested online.

But nothing works, i have also tried putting in the XP disc and also connecting it to another monitor and pressing Fn +F8 but still nothing.

I don't want to give up on it. :(

I am not a computer expert but it makes a noise when i press it on, so to me it still has life

Is there anything i can do??

Thanks.

I just bought two used dell latitude d600 laptops. The hard drives were formatted by the previous owner but he supplied the original XP SP2 OS and gave me a link to download the drivers from Dell Support. I downloaded the drivers using the service tag to ensure the latest drivers were installed. I uploaded the OS and drivers without any problems on both computers. I have a wireless cable modem that has a desktop connected via either net cable and it works fine. When I connect the D600 to the cable, I can access the internet as expected. However, when I try to connect wireless, the laptops are unable to renew the IP address so I have "little to no connectivity". I have read through a few of the threads about this subject and tried all the recommendations I could find without any luck. It sees the wireless connection but just wont renew the IP address. I've tried rebooting the modem by cutting power, I've tried the winsock reset, IPconfig /release and IPconfig /renew, Ive ensured the radio is enabled. Ive even reloaded the OS and drivers (including NSS driver) to no avail. The things I notice that are odd is when I go to START>RUN>inetwiz> the internet conncetion wizard pops up BUT only gives me two choices (connect using phone line and connect using LAN). Read more

Answer:dell latitude d600 cant renew ip address

hey zeus. that sounds like a pickle of a problem. first off, always use LAN unless you are on a dial-up connection. it's the same as broadband. broadband wasn't introduced until later with windows vista (at least as far as I know). second off have you tried moving closer to router? might be a weak signal or interference from something like a cordless phone or radio. also if you live near train tracks, you might be getting interference from the trains wireless signals to the train station. theres lots of interference that a friend of mine gets from his router whenever a train goes by.

EDITED ADD-IN: also i know you have tried everything under the sun but are you using windows' built-in wireless network control software or are you using the wireless card's software? a lot of times the issue can be a simple software conflict. try disabling or removing the wireless card's software (not the drivers, just the software). then reboot and just use windows' built-in wireless control software and see if that resolves the issue if not, might be a bad wireless card. but don't take my word for it.

What I wanted to do was change the asset information on the splash screen so I got asset.com from dell site but it wouldn?t change it as the Configure setup password is enabled and I don?t know what it is.

Do you know a way to get around this so I can change the asset information and remove the configuration password?

I have a probably 5+ year old Dell Latitude D600 laptop, purchased used, and running Windows XP Professional without any problems for the past 3-4 years. As an electronics engineer, I have no problem in diagnosing and repairing minor eletrical problems, to include laptop computers.

About 3 days ago during a reboot, I got the message saying that "Warning: An unknown AC power adapter has been detected, > preventing optimal system performance. Strike the F3 key (before the F1> or F2 key) if you do not want to see power warning messages again.". Not knowing what to make of that in terms of the implications, I hit F3. Only a day or so later, I noticed that one of my two laptop batteries had drained to zero and appeared to not be charging correctly. I checked my two laptop batteries using the built-in test button, and both showed OK, although one was fully discharged. So, the batteries are OK.

In checking the AC adaptor using a voltmeter, I checked the output, and the output was right up to spec with the output right at 19.5V. I examined the laptop AC connector port and it appeared to be both ... Read more

This can happen when you run a battery right down to 0%. Once there, it may never come back. I had a C600 battery do this to me. I fully discharged it, and it never took a charge again

Ok.so recently the computer has been working fine until yesterday.

First when it logged me on, no desktop shows up.so i ran taskmanager and closed explorer.exe and ran it again and it worked fine. But today, while i was using it, it crashed with a blue screen. I couldnt read what the whole thing said because my screen is cracked on the top middle section. But it mentioned somthing with physical memory being dumped. Recently i added a 1gb usb as virtual ram to speed up my computer a bit too. I couldn't read it so i figured if i turned the laptop off and rebooted it up it will be ok. So i realized that the usb got bent and maybe came off the computer. So i turned on the computer and it started up. It showed the dell logo and the bios being booted. But it just pauses when it starts. Nothing happens. it doent load. It's just stuck there and all i can do is turn it off.

Windows Xp sp3
1400 mhz processor
1.5 gb ram
about 35gb harddrive.

Answer:Dell latitude d600 wont start up.

Have you tried Safe Mode boot?

Do you have your Dell XP install disk?

Have you unplugged that bent USB device?

I have a Dell Latitude D600. It can run on a 65W PA-12 (model HP-OQ065B83) or PA-10 (model PA-1900-02D, don't know wattage) family of Dell adapters. Both models have input of 100-240v 50-60hz, output of 19.5v. PA-12 outputs 3.34A. PA-10 outputs 4.62A.

I normally hook the laptop to the PA-12 adapter. About 2-3 weeks ago, I noticed that the icon which shows if I am on battery, AC, or AC and charging, kept flickering between AC and battery power. Finally, it stopped charging the battery in addition to not powering the laptop. I figured it was a problem with the AC adapter. Luckily, I have another PA-12 at home. So, I started using it. Everything worked for a while. Then, the 2nd PA-12 adapter started to act the same way as the first one. I have a docking station which is hooked up to a PA-10 adapter. So, I took the PA-10 and used that to run my laptop. Again this worked for a while and then the same problem. So far, 2 PA-12s and 1 PA-10 had stopped working. Then, I took the docking station (luckily it is small), connected the PA-10 to it, and docked the laptop. Everything worked. But soon after, I started getting a message that the laptop is docked, but the AC Adapter type is not recognized, and to undock the laptop or use another adapter for the docking station. I took the PA-10 and hooked it back to the laptop and removed the battery. If I play/move the adapter's plug on the laptop, sometimes the PA-10 will work. However, I get the message that the AC Adapter type i... Read more

Hello,

I need to replace the hard drive in my Dell Latitude D600 laptop and I'm wondering whether I have to use the particular hard drive produced specifically by Dell for Dell Latitude laptops or whether there are any alternatives?

Any advice would be much appreciated

Cheers,
Celia

Answer:Hard drive for Dell Latitude D600

You do not need to purchase from Dell
Read the label on the HardDrive, and do a search for those specs. You can also search D600 Hard Drive on its own

Windows 7 all of a sudden started having problems with time keeping. Of course I went to step #1 and put in a new CMOS battery. That did not help, the CMOS time works perfectly. The issue seems to be a disconnect between Windows and the BIOS. If I reset the date/time in Windows everything works fine until next reboot when Windows loses the time/date settings again. (BIOS time is still correct)I have reset all BIOS setting to defaultI have changed Windows time sync to different serversI have replaced the CMOS batteryI have stripped windows out and did a clean installI also ran HIRENS which also showed the incorrect date when it loaded it's mini-WinXP OS.Nothing has worked! What could possible keep Windows from talking to the system BIOS clock?

Answer:Windows 7 resets date to 1/1/1601 on reboot

Real time clock has nothing to do with cmos anymore. It is easy enough to try and adjust time in bios. Problem is that time is not a time that should ever show or be able to show.Turn it all off and remove power plug. Press power button a few times or let site overnight. Then boot to bios and see what it says.1/3 of highway deaths are caused by drunks. The rest are by people who can't drive any better than a drunk.

For various reasons, I want to reinstall XP Pro on my Dell Laptop.  However, the Dell reinst. disk is apparently missing two nVidia Chipset Raid Driver files - nvgts.sys and nvrd32.sys.  Soon after the system begins loading files in to RAM, it reports that the files are missing and aborts.  I googled this and found it is a common problem with Dell reinst. disks.  I've tried writing the files to a CD (I have no floppy drive), and pressing F6 to manually load the drivers; then inserting the CD with the drivers, but apparently the program wants only to locate them on a floppy disk.  Anyone have suggestions to get around this issue?  I'm concerned that I don't have the expertise to extract a reinst. disk, add the missing drivers, and reassemble the disk.

My Dell laptop shuts itself down after running for about ten hours. The power option in settings is set at "Never shut down" because it's used for CCTV detection and recording.

The most likely cause has been reported as overheating due to a clogged fan and heatsink. So, to avoid wasting time, I bought and fitted a new fan and heatsink and cleaned out the inside of the case whilst I had it in pieces.

Unfortunately, that hasn't solved the problem.

Any other ideas gratefully received.

Im assuming you went to support.dell.com and checked. You can use their vista drivers for 32 bit by installing them in compatibiliy mode.

Let us know if that doesn't work

I've got a Dell Latitude D600 which I acquired just in the past year, which is running Windows XP Professional. Earlier this year I was lucky enough to have to go on a business trip to Hawaii, and given the duration of the flight - I invested in a second laptop battery. While on the trip, when the first battery began to run low, I wondered whether it was possible to "hot swap" out the old for the fresh battery. After saving all my work that was in progress, I swapped out the batteries as quickly as possible - and the system remained on somehow. I did this probably 3-4 times over the course of the trip, all with consistent success.

On a more recent trip though I tried it, and got the exact opposite result - with the laptop obviously losing all power during the 2-3 second transfer. What's going on there now? Any speculation on what the problem is. In the absence of factual information, all I can do is speculate that on the earlier trip the laptop had somehow gone into hibernate or some other standby mode, and the teeny, tiny onboard energy cell that maintains the clock/calendar and other settings was able to briefly sustain the O/S during the battery swap. Any other theories out there. I've searched online for more information, but all I get is lots of ardent statements that this "hot swapping" is unequivocally impossible - but unless the laptop was somehow energized just by virtue of my electrical personality, these folks are just plain wro... Answer:Solved: Hot Swapping Batteries - Dell Latitude D600

Okay, although a few folks from some other parallel bulletin boards have gently urged against trying this practice of hot-swapping the laptop batteries, apparently it is both possible - and usually successful, if you just use a little care.

The trick is to ensure that the Hibernate mode is enabled on your laptop and to ensure that the laptop has fully entered the Hibernate mode. Then you can swap out a depleted battery for a fresh one, and the on-board power source will hold the O/S in a powered on state for at least some period of time (a few seconds?), but long enough to get another battery in place - unless you've got twelve fingers and it takes you five minutes, I guess.

I hv a Dell Latitude D600 with faulty thermal sensor that show constant 85celcius even just boot and the air that blown out were not even warm. The fan were always at fullspeed. It throttle down to the lowest speed(500mhz).

I did remove the heatsink n clean all dust

I did replace the thermal paste

i replace another processor to confirm that is not a faulty processor's thermal sensor

I tried to change power setting to 'Always On' and is still the same

I tried to overclock it using NHC but its still slow

Anyway that i can disable the temp throttle down?
I dont care if that overheat my laptop as if i have to use a laptop with 500mhz i rather try to cure it.
Btw this is an unused anymore,i just wanna try to fix/modify to make it fullspeed again.

Was working fine.  One fine day I come along turn the computer on to be greeted by the BSOD 'Unmountable Boot Volume'.How do I fix this?  I was reading on the internet about using the recovery disk.  Is a recovery disk the same an xp installation disk?  Even so, I dont have the original disk that came with the computer, Im not even sure I got one.  I do have a retail disk that I bought.  Can I use that disk to give me the recovery options? On another note, if nothing else works and I decide to reinstall the operating system, will that work and get rid of this error?

Answer:unmountable boot volume Dell Latitude D600

Boot to the XP CD and choose the first repair option. This will take you to the recovery console. Run chkdsk /r then reboot. What happens?

Hi all!
Sorry for starting a new thread on a common problem...
Been into a strange situation lately...

*short version* Met very nice a girl recently and have been dating her for some weeks. She messed up her laptop couple a days ago by changing the master password and now she can´t remember what is was! (Is she really in love maybe?? ;-) )

I said: - I'll fix it for you, honey! No problem!

I tried to send Mr Rustam_ a private mess and later on an email asking for help, but I didn´t got any response...?! Did I do something wrong???

I had to get back to her and admit that I couldn´t help her out :-( , so she went with shame to her companys IT-guys and they should contact Dell for a master password.

Guess what?? Dell won´t help them! There are some issues with the purchase order or something! She has lot of stuff on that laptop that she's been working on lately and is really upset about it!

Please! Is there anyone here at this forum that could generate a new Dell latitude D600 master password??

Love!

Hi,

I am having the following problems with my keyboard: space bar, back, arrow keys, numbers, letter - you press it once and then it just won't type it a second time until you wait for some time and then go at it again; cannot strike any key twice or more in a row (for example if I try to type "kibble", the second b won't show up)

I thought it may be the keyboard that was the problem so I purchased a new replacement, installed it and the problems still weren't fixed!

Anybody know what the actual problem may be??

I recently replaced the 20GB, 4200 rpm Hitachi hard drive in my six year-old Dell Latitude D600 with a 160GB, 5400 rpm Western Digital Scorpio Blue drive. I noticed immediately that it was running much hotter than the old drive – to a point at which I couldn’t comfortably rest my palm on the system. I downloaded several utilities to read the SMART chip data, and they all returned temperatures (each utility returning the same value) of 120-125 degrees. I bought a cooling stand, which only brought it down to around 115. I contacted Western Digital tech support; they informed me this was not normal operating temperature, and sent me a recertified drive as a replacement. I installed it, and had the same result. I contacted them again, and the fellow with whom I was working then tried to backpedal – I hadn’t given him all of the info, I had to expect it to run hotter than a 4200 rpm drive, etc. I ended up returning the recertified drive to them and keeping the first one.

I then reinstalled my original 20GB drive, installed a couple of the utilities, and began getting temperature readings of 130-135 degrees! I knew by touch that it couldn’t be that hot; also, when the WD drives are installed, the variable speed cooling fan runs constantly at high speed, whereas when the 20GB Hitachi is installed, it rarely does. I have to conclude that the SMART chips are inherently inaccurate or that the Hitachi drive is simply better insulated (which I find hard to believe).

Has it been an... Read more

Hello,

I have a complex problem with my Dell Latitude D600 Laptop,
It all started one day that out of nowhere my laptop did not recognize my Network Adapter, and it would say "No physical adapters found", and randomly it would work again. So I used my old laptop to look in the internet for solutions, first i tried updating all my drivers with a software that scans and updates all the drivers necessary for you but, it failed to fix the actual problem. Then I tried re-installing my OS, so now with a fresh new OS the wireless capabilities worked fine, but only for the first day, then the next morning the whole problem began again. Now it would say " No supported wireless adapters found" and when i would open the device manager some devices would have the yellow exclamation point, some of the devices would say "Intel PCIC compatible PCMICA controller" and " PCMICA MTD-0002" or just "card bus controller" and many other ones that would alternate when they appear. And also sometimes my network adapters would completely disappear from the list. I also tried scanning my whole drive for viruses and nothing was found. Then i found that if you disconnect the wireless adapter physically and re connect it, it might work, but it didn't. I should also add that before this problem for some time i had another problem with the same laptop that had to do with the battery malfunctioning, and it displays a 4 orange , 1 green pattern sequence ... About two weeks ago I successfully installed a wireless connection to my Broadband service using a new Netgear WG511v2 card plugged directly into a Dell Latitiude D600 laptop. The card and router are never more than 20ft apart. As of yesterday, as soon as the wireless card is plugged in, the laptop freezes with mouse and keyboard becoming inactive. On one occasion last night out of 12 attempts a network connection was made only to crash about 2 minutes later. On every other attempt the mouse/keys froze and only sometimes unplugging the card would allow normal use to return, mostly the laptop had to be restarted.

When moving a file to an SD Card through the card reader the Date Modified is resetting.
Any idea why?

Answer:when moving file to SD card date modified resets

To me, this is normal.

When you 'move' or 'copy' file to a new location, the date reset itself.
This could mean that this is new file on this new location, so a new date/time.
