I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

HiI purchased my ThinkPad T470P 10 days ago. It has 1TB HDD (5400rpm) preinstalled so I want to replace it with SSD.Is my ThinkPad capable of using the full potential of NVME SSD or I just need to buy a SATA3 SSD?I know Lenovo sells these machines with NVME SSDs preinstalled but do they use the same port as my HDD is using right now? What is the interface that my HDD is using right now?Regards

Just got my brand new work laptop (T470P 7700hq, 16GB), sometimes it completely freezes. I especially noticed it when I was installing some problems. I ran Prime95 without problems, but when I killed it the computer froze again, with that I can repeat the problem (as soon as I kill Prime95, de computer locks up). It's completely unresponsive, can't restart it with CTRL+ALT+DELETE, not even the capslock light can be changed, it looks like a complete CPU halt.

I have just received my new T470p this afternoon and despite many "Google" searches I cannot get the keyboard backlight to work. I tried tech. support, but as it was after 6PM they were closed and this is driving me mad! Could it be a faulty device? I do not want to go through the motions of setting-up my PC if it has to be replaced. All answers gratefully received.

Hi and thx for letting me join the forum  My son is considering buying a used Thinkpad T470P laptop and is having some questions. The 470P is apparently equipped with a 256GB m.2 ssd disk mounted in the SATA slot by the M2 adapter. He is considering if it would be possible to move the M.2 to the M2/WWAN slot and putting his "old" ssd disk (2" - 480GB) in the SATA slot. 1) Are there any limits regarding capacity of the Drive mounted in the M2/WWAN slot2) Is it possible to boot from the drive in the M2/WWAN slot3) Would there be any performance differences between having the m2 disk connected to the M2/WWAN slot versus having it connercted to the "normal" SATA slot regardsHenning Lang

Had a brand new Thinkpad T470p and after taking a flight (and plugging the machine into the powerport on the plane) the machine would not charge any longer. When booting from any power source, the machine would tell me that the AC Adapater was not powerful enough to charge my machine.  After working with Lenovo Tech Support and receiving a new AC Adapter for the machine, they finally gave me a new machine. Yesterday it happened again after taking another flight and using my laptop on the plane. So figured I'd do some research and found the solution rather than go through the same thing with Lenovo. Here's an existing thread that goes into detail on the issue: https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/ThinkPad-P-and-W-Series-Mobile/W540-charging-bug-WiFi-OFF-no-charge/m-p... There's a "bug" in the Lenovo Power settings that puts the laptop in Airplane Power Mode (whatever that is). Apparently the software is designed to avoid high-powered laptops from drawing too much power from the airplanes power port which is rated at 65W, not the 135W the T470p (and likely other more powerful Thinkpads). BUT, the software does not correct itself when you plug back into a proper power portin your home or office and the error messages do not accuratly reflect what's going on.  All you simply have to do is go to Lenovo's Power Settings and turn off Airplane Power Mode to either Balanced or High Performance and all is well again. Wish Lenovo tech support would have known ... I was initially very happy with the power consumption off the 470P but after a while I discovered that the indicated runtime sometimes decrease substantially for no reason even when I close all apps and just viewing the desktop. With some investigation, I have found out that the CPU "loose" or stops using the Package c-states from C10 to C2 after running for a while, could be from a few minutes to a couple of hours after boot (the core C states are fine). When it loses the package c states they will not be active again until reboot, sleep or timeout from "Turn off display  XX minutes". It does not help to close all programs and just view the desktopI have used Hardware Info(64) to verify this but windows also reflect this directly on indicated runtime. When on battery the idle "Package Power" increase from about 0.4Watt to 2 -2.5W and I see a reduction in battery runtime from about 10 hours (lite use) to about 5-6 hours. It also acting differently regarding c states when on battery, plugged in or in docking with 3 external monitors (max c6 in docking). Not that I care when AC is connected but it runs hotter and that I do care about. To trouble shoot I have also installed another instance of windows 10 (dual boot) but the problem persists no matter what. I have also tried to remove the memory module I installed but the problem stays. I have installed two bios updates and every other new hardware driver since I got it in April. The only thing that have made a dif... Read more

On my T470p, I have a 1GB "Recovery partition" .  Based on my previous experience a recovery partition allows you to restore your laptop to the state it was when it came from the factory but 1GB seems kinda of small to contain a Windows image, so I'm wondering what that 1GB partition contains.

Hi, I have a quite strange monitor related issue with my beloved t470p. My two Dell monitors connected through DisplayPort interfaces of my docking station. Everything is fine, the picture is brilliant, so I have nothing to complain about except one thing. When I start watching Netflix on one of the monitors, that monitor turns off ) Maybe this is something built in 'get back to work' feature, but I don't like it. It is no matter if I try win10 Netflix app, or start a movie in a browser, every time is the same. I suppose this is maybe related to the copy protection functions in the Intel driver, but I'm not sure. There is a newer driver available on Intel's website, but I cannot install this because we have a vendor customized version of the driver  Do you have any idea? Have you seen something similar before? Thank youLaszlo

My little brother sometimes uses my T470p (20J7) to play an online game Roblox. By its look, it doesnt look like a heavy game and it's easily played with this machine at over 120fps. However, I started noticing that under heavy load, the T470p scores temperatures of sometimes over 100 degrees, which is way too hot. This, of course, only occurs while running the Nvidia 940MX under load - still, too high for a laptop, which worries me about internal parts damages... I've been surveilling this now for over a month, with several Roblox updates, as also as with several Lenovo Bios, battery etc, updates. Still the same. Here are some screenshots:Core TempTask Managertask Manager CPUTask Manager GPU I heard several people were already doing some Throttling with XTU since this temperature is way to high, and burns a little bit the fingers if you have them right next to the fan... Lenovo or community members, any suggestions how to solve this?

Answer:T470p hdd options

Welcome to the CommunityYou might keep the HDD and add m.2 2242 SATA SSD as the 2nd storage or for cache fetures. Or replace the HDD with 2.5" SATA III SSD (7 mm in height) or with m.2 2280 PCIe NVME SSD (this last option will need new m.2 SSD bracket+adapter, Lenovo FRU 01HY319).

My work laptop is a month-old t470p. It powered itself off while I was using it last Friday and will not turn back on. When I press the power button, the power LED just blinks 3 times, nothing else happens. Technical support says the system board needs to be replaced, but a new one won't be available for a MONTH. Almost longer than I've had the machine. I have two questions:1. Can I do anything to fix my machine in the meantime?2. I chose Lenovo as the standard for windows laptops at my company because of thier reputation for quality and technical service. Was I way off-base? This is the worst product experience I've ever had. They everyone! I hope you can help me with mac OS on a Thinkpad. Background:  I'll be starting medical school at the end of the summer. I just spoke with one of the students at my school and they said that a few of the programs that the school's material is distributed through use Mac OS. He runs a desktop with partitions for windows 10 and mac OS and finds it helpful. Ipads are issued to everyone, but the problem is I really enjoy my screen real estate, so I won't likely use this Ipad much. I've already put together a setup for my home desk, for studying and multitasking at that includes the Thinkpad mini 3 dock, two 1440p monitors, printer, keyboard, mouse, etc. I currently power it with my T430 with i5-3230m, Intell 4000 graphics, Windows 10, 240 gb SSD, and 8 gb of ram. It works okay, with minor stutters and locks when multi-tasking.Help needed: I need a solution to switch between windows 10 and mac OS, to use with this setup and on the go. If anyone has links to a step by step on how to install mac OS: dual boot, natively, or a virtual machine, please share! This is new territory for me so I'm unsure of which path to take! Input is welcome.Should I upgrade to a new ThinkPad? I'll be running this setup for the next two years at least. I really want to use just one machine for everything, and have everything run smoothly for reading, watching lectures, and multitasking. I've been eyeing a new T470P with i7-78... Read more

Do you have a warranty?  If 2 adapters give the same error, it might be the power circuitry in the laptop.

Hello, I just unboxed a 470p and created a reference image in SCCM/MDT using the SCCM package from the download page. Everything worked fine until the point when I tried to use the built-in WWAN device. It worked exactly once and I was able to dial in to the intertubez. Hanging up, recreating the reference image with a few changes and testing again never brought the device back to life. Over a timespan of a few hours it has gotten worse and worse and now it's not working anymore at all. It's not even visible in Windows' device manager anymore. (Hidden devices displayed). It's just gone. Running any linux and doing an "lspci" or "lsusb" doesn't show the device either. I'm under the impression that the card just died and that's it. Over the last few hours I was able to make the device visible again by just resetting the BIOS to its defaults and boot. So it was accepting a PIN again, but couldn't find a network nor was it accepting any APN configuration at all. Before we start speculating:After the first time the device worked it never worked again. This is what I did: - Flashed BIOS to latest version (1.14/1.02)- I tested multiple SIM cards from different german providers, none worked.- I removed the driver from the reference image that comes with the SCCM package and installed the driver manually- I tested multiple versions: R0GWS10W (latest available), NZ1WN03W and N1HWL05W.- I always reimaged with a clean image before testing a driver I also not... Scaling up the fonts, icons, etc. works ok, but I'm also using a lot of different external screens and projectors, and then everything is just way too big. There is a high-res option and also a touch option.  The choice affects the lid, hinges and cable.  In general, you are better off selling your laptop and buying a replacement.

I'm about to buy my T470P and am a bit short on cash right now, and will probably be purchasing the FHD screen. But, in the future, I would like the option to upgrade to the 1440P screen. I know the cable will be different with the FHD using a 30 pin connector and the WQHD using a 40 pin connector. Is the cable replaceable? Or is it soldered to the motherboard? Is it at all possible to upgrade from the FHD to WQHD? (if anyone has done this on other models like the T470S, T460P, or T460S please share, I imagine the process would be similar)

Hi! I have a new T470p with M.2 PCie Opal2 SSD drive. I'm trying to install a clean image of Windows 10 x64 (Educational) on it, however the installation always ends with "A media driver your computer needs is missing"). I'm installing from working image on a USB 3.0 thumb drive (created with MS Windows USB DVD download tool). I tried suppling USB 3 and chipset drivers, I tried all USB slots (even tried using a borrowed dock). I tried different windows 10 builds (1703 and 1607), I tried windows 7 installation (similar error... it says that dvd drivers are missing..) What can I do, to install clean windows ? thank you

To diagnose this kind of BSOD you need full memory dump (not a minidump only). You'll get detailed blocked IRP information you can check by Microsoft Kernel Debugger. Read this.

As far as I know there is no such thing. There is some work in progress by a group of people, but nothing close to a working driver.

Answer:Cant install Win10 T470p and x270

Hello and welcomeI can't explain the reason of error, sorry for that. It seems the installation log is needed to inspect but it might be difficult enough task. Why didn't you install Creators Update via Windows System Update, using Windows 10 Upgrade Assistant? I've perfomed that task on T470p from factory version 1607 to 1703 without any issue:- SU has installed update 3150513 (probably, update 4013214 is needed too but not in my case)- I didn't wait the offer from SU to perform the auto-updgrade to 1703 and open new link appeared in Windowss Settings -> Update to load and launch Windows 10 Upgrade Assistant- then the OS updgrade has been done successfully.Lenovo image preloaded on T470p is almost clear from OS preinstalled junk (it's a Signature Edition) and Lenovo apps except of needed settings metro application. So, there isn't so many reasons to install Creators update from the scratch.

Hello everyone, So, I just received my new T470p FHD, 16GB Ram Thinkpad.I noticed that some windows have very blurry or clumsy quality compared to the rest. Here are some examples: Notice the "Scan this drive for errors" window and the Lenovo Settings. Notice the "Lenovo settings" windowNotice the "uTorrent" and "Lenovo settings" window. I'm not sure if you notice it from the first sight, however, while working with this Thinkpad, I can notice it really good that there's a quality difference between some windows. Graphics card and Nvidia are up2date. Anybody might have a solution for this?

Hello everyone,So, I just received my new T470p FHD, 16GB Ram Thinkpad. The first time I turned it on, I noticed that it went from 20% battery to 0% within 5 minutes.A bit later, I changed the built-in SSD (Toshiba, 1500MB/s, 250GB) to my Samsung EVO 850 500GB SSD.Windows 10 Pro (shipped with the Thinkpad) is activated, everything is up2date, Power saving modes are on while on battery, and I have L-Settings and L-Companion installed. However, my ThinkPad wont last longer than an hour on battery.I did a calibration reset via L-Settings, and afterwards, the battery icon FINALLY displayed 5h runtime until the battery will be empty. Today, when I looked again, it displays on 78% only 2h runtime and now it displays 1h and 26min with 96%.Anybody maybe having a solution for this issue?

Answer:New T470p - Battery wont last an hour

HelloI think, it's annoyingly for you to face such issues with newest laptop (ThinkPad especially) in this and another your thread.Regarding the battery issue:is Lenovo Power Management Driver for win10/64 installed?http://pcsupport.lenovo.com/downloads/ds032258There is obvious bug on the T470p downloads page, so the link above is correct. Also, is Lenovo System Interface Foundation for win10 installed? Thease drivers are needed for Lenovo Settings app.Did you install rest drivers using Lenovo Companion, ThinkVantage System Update or manually? ps. So my T470p came with a 135w power supply. (Part : ADL135NLC2a). 20v / 6.75A. My Ultradock came with a 90w power supply (Part: 90NL2Ca) 20v / 4.5a. I've been using the T470p in the ultradock for some days without issue..  but: 1. Should I switch to the 135 power supply in the Ultradock? If yes, why if the 90w is working? 2. Can I carry around the 90w power supply instead of the 135w power supply? It's lighter. Just curious.  -or- Maybe I should just shut up and buy another 135w power supply and plug that into the dock and be done with it. But regardless, just curious. Thanks !

Answer:T470p with 90w power in docking station

There is a great deal of variation in the power draw of different configurations of T470p machines.  I'm sure Lenovo's answer would be that your machine was delivered with a power supply that would be sufficient for the machine you bought.  T470p machines come with 90W or 135W supplies depending on the configuration.  Things that use more power are discreet graphics, faster CPU, quad-core CPU, more memory, spinning disk (vs. SSD) and some other smaller factors.  Adding a docking station draws more power by itself, not to mention whatever is plugged into it.  I'm sure the official answer would be to carry the bigger power supply.  In real life you MIGHT get by with the smaller one, depending on what kind of work you are doing, but the power supply might overheat and fail if you need more than it can provide.

I use a P70, which uses an even bigger 175W power supply.  The PS is really big and I would rather carry a smaller one, but, instead, I got an additional 175W PS and carry that in my laptop bag.

For several last days, I have a strange behavior of speakers and microphone in my t470p. For most of the time they are unavailable in both Linux or Windows OS. However, where I'm doing little push on screen backward (like adjusting screen little bit), both microphone and speaker start working and become available. After I stop adjusting screen (making push backward) device become unavailable again. I'm sure that it is some kind of hardware problem and it should be easy fixing (like some connector is not attached properly inside LCD panel), but according to maintenance manual, I do not see any wires related to speakers or sound card going inside LCD panel. Can anybody advise how to fix such behavior?

We recieved our first T470p (i7 + Nvidia gfx) and it came with a large 135W AC adapter. The UltraDock we ordered with it came with a 90W AC adapter. At the moment we have the UltraDock using the 135W adapter, and the laptop on it's own uses the 90W adapter. Is this OK? - Will the laptop components be damaged or lower-performing by using a 90W AC adapter instead of the 135W adapter? What are the downsides of using the 90W adapter on this laptop? And is 135W enough for the UltraDock?

The T470p I recently replaced a system board on was missing the hole in the base cover to perform an emergency reset! I've looked at the HMMs for the T470 and T470s and both these variants appear to have the reset hole as I would have expected. However, the T470p reset switch is on the front edge of the system board with no hole in the base cover, whereas the T470 and T470s have theirs located toward the centre of the board with the reset hole right above it. I haven't drilled down to identify specific MTMs and the corresponding FRUs as this would be time-consuming. Here's a pic of the one I was working on... as you can see - no reset hole! Thoughts? Why have Lenovo removed this on the T470P bit not the T470 or T470S?

Hi,I'm a long time Thinkpad user, started with a T42, T60, T61p, W700, T440p, and now just ordered a T470p as my T440p died on me (while my T61p is still working perfectly) As for all my previous laptop, I ordered a docking station. But .... what I received is a USB Hub (with all the power connection, Hdmi, RJ45, etc ...)How is that a docking station ? I haven't received my T470p yet, and now I'm wondering it it has a slot under, like any other laptop, or if they discontinued this option ? Maybe I'm mistaken, maybe the USB hub is faster than a direct-to-MB slot, but .... I doubt it. So before I send it back (along with the crapy not worth a $ backpack) please let me know how right/wrong I am. ric

Answer:I ordered a docking station but I received a USB hub (for my T470P)

I believe the T470p can use either a USB3 dock or a traditional docking station.  The traditional dock is faster for many things.  The Ultra Dock (traditional dock) with a 90W power adapter is 40A20090US

Hi, I'm going to by a new Thinkpad soon and I'm still unsure whether I should get the T470 or the T470p. I'd really like to have the extra CPU performance of the T470p. However, as a Linux user without any special GPU-consuming applications I would like to use the Intel IGP graphics only (due to the better Linux support and the reduced power consumption). The CPU (i7-7700HQ) does have an Intel IGP graphics according to Intel but I'm not sure whether/how I can use that instead of the NVidia graphics card. Is it possible to do disable the NVidia GPU in the BIOS/UEFI or via a software setting? If it is a software setting: How is it configured on Linux (Ubuntu 16.04)?ThanksJakob

Hello everyone! I'm a happy owner of a ThinkPad 470P purchased more or less one month ago.I've completely wiped Windows 10 in favour of Debian, kernel 4.9, and everything runs smoothly: my GPU stays idle when necessary thanks to bumblebee, my CPU (i7 7700HQ) runs smoothly and the kernel manages it correctly, cores stay in idle state when necessary without issues. Until a couple of days ago, my battery was letting me work for 7-8 hours without needing me to plug my AC in, with occasional peeks to 10h (I have got the 72Wh version). Suddenly, the maximum capacity of the battery dropped below 50% (42% at the moment), without any apparent reason.I've already run a couple of tests, such as tlp recalibrate, to attempt a recalibration and/or detect common issues, but nothing suspicious was spotted. I'm quite an attentuous user, I avoid plugging my laptop in when not necessary, I always wait for low battery levels (5-10%) prior to recharging and I happened to detach it from the AC before it being fully recharged just in a couple of occasions. So, I wonder whether there is any specific issue with battery drivers on Linux (but it is said to be fully compatible with Ubuntu, which is a surrogate of Debian, which I am running o.O), or if a possible issue might be battery deterioration. Which I believe is handly possible: the battery has just one month (or so) of life. Since I am seeing many issues related to battery on Linux on ThinkPads, I believe there is so... Read more

Hi all!I just got a T470p and put a fresh Windows 10 installation on it. All required drivers were downloaded over Windows Update and I only needed to install Hotkey and Lenovo PM Driver manually. BIOS is latest version 1.13. Now I cannot go into Hibernation mode though. Every time I try to resume it, the system performs a disk check on startup and then boots up normally, ignoring the hibernation file. Event Log shows nothing more than a "Kernel-Boot" event 16 with error status 0xC000009A and a "Kernel-Power" event 41 (with no bugcheck information).I have also went through "powercfg -h off" and "powercfg -h on" already. Tracing the hibernation and resume process with "xbootmgr" as described at http://www.msfn.org/board/topic/140247-trace-windows-7-bootshutdownhibernatestandbyresume-issues/ results in empty .etl files. Can anybody reproduce this problem?Any idea what else I could try to solve it? Best regards, Colin Finck

I have just taken delivery of a T470p and have done a fresh install of Windows 10 Enterprise and updated that to version 1703 build 15063.540. The T470p replaces an aging X240. I used the X240 with a ThinkPad Ultra Dock type 40A2 (P/N SD20F82750) with 2 ThinkVision LT2452p monitors attached via DisplayPort. Everything worked reasonably fine with the X240 docked - both monitors ran at 1920x1200 resolution. I'd get the occasional problem where I'd have to open and close the X240's lid to force it to realise it was docked, but I could live with that. But...if I dock the T470p then neither monitor works. Both monitors' power LED turn green when I dock the laptop (so I assume the dock and the monitors are talking to one another) but they then turn orange and there isn't a picture on either monitor. If I unplug one of the DisplayPort cables from the Ultra Dock one of the monitors gets a picture, but as soon as I plug the cable back into the dock the monitor goes blank. Is this a known problem? My employer are about to order 40-50 T470p laptops but if we need to purchase new Ultra Docks as well I think we will have to have a rethink. Kind regards, /Neil

After BIOS debacle and a reflash to the old BIOS, my keyboard is no longer mapped correctly. It seems to have happened after going through a restart. My spacebar is now my enter key. If you hit the B or V keys, it registers as both = "BV" same for M and N. I did clean my keyboard with a light spray of 3m Anti-static Electronics Cleaner if that could have something to do with it.  What's the issue with my keyboard?  I've tried uninstalling the drivers and rebooting. I've tried every quick fix I can google. I've tried unplugging the keyboard.A USB keyboard is totally unaffected, it's just the built in keyboard.

My newly acquired T470p has suffered from unexpected reboots lately. Today I figured that moving it by holding it single handed triggers the reboot - I suspect the bottom cover is flexing, causing temporary shorts or disconnections. Hi, I am getting HDD like noises from the front right of my thinkpad near where the logo is on the palmrest. It sounds like a spinning disk but a bit quiter. I am assuming it is either hte SSD, RAM or CPU. It is definately not the fan as the issue does not come up in the BIOS. Issue comes about with low CPU load <5%. This is really bugging me, the noise is nearly as bad as a spinning disk and super annoying. Any advise would be appreciated.

Hello,My understanding is that both the T460p and T470p support PCIe 3.0 x2 via their SATAe SSD connector. The T470p has an adapter on which an M2 2280 PCIe NVMe drive can be connected and get speeds higher than SATA.  The T460p on the other hand only has this one Toshiba SATAe drive to improve on SATA speeds, and that is limited to 256GB, it is rare and cancels the WAN port for further storage. So, can the adapter from the T470p be used in the T460p? This would solve all problems for the T460p, higher speed and good capacity. Thanks

Answer:M2 2280 PCIe NVMe drive for T460p using T470p's SSD 2.5 adapter. Will it work?

Hi, otheosyou wrote:> it ... cancels the WAN port for further storage.the combo m.2 wwan/ssd slot isn't assocoiated with main 2.5" slot for HDD/SSD, it's a separate slot. This combo slot supports m.2 SSD SATA III 22x42 mm in size only, not a PCIe one.I haven't seen the prooves that the bracket/adapter for m.2 PCIe SSD 2280 for T470p (there isn't the one for 2.5" PCIe SSD in T470p parts list) is compatible with T460p.

Two days ago I installed the Windows 10 cumulative update, and the Lenovo Companion September updates for the power management driver, hotkey features, and BIOS.This is with Win10 Pro, UltraDock, and DP monitor. Since then my machine no longer wakes up, or at least it wakes up, but the screen stays black, the notebook screen is black, the DP screen turns on but stays black.I have to hold power to do a cold boot. Any ideas which update is the casue, and how I recover?

Depending on what is displayed on the screen (eg. white background webpage vs. dark themed text editor) the brightness automatically adjusts in very slow (>1s) steps. This is quite anoying and I want to turn it off. How do I do this?I have a new Thinkpad T470p running Windows 10 Pro.I have installed Lenovo Vantage with the 'dynamic brightness control' option set to OFF.BIOS version: R0FET37W 1.17I have just updated the display driver to version 6.6.0.0 (09.11.2017)

So, I had opened months ago a thread here about the short battery time with the T470P. I got my hands on the biggest available battery (72Wh), but still manage, even after a gauge reset, to get around 5h battery time, only using Firefox, and minimal Words/PDF. All on POWER saving mode. What's going wrong with the T470P that it wont even reach half of its promised 12h battery time? (I know those are Airplane mode numbers, but 5h is a joke compared to those)
