I have amazon assistant aa.hta. Can someone please assist?

Question: I have amazon assistant aa.hta. Can someone please assist?

I'm getting blank white boxes constantly.

I didn't download it intentionally.

I have read the other 8 threads on it here.

I'm running Windows 10.

When I tried to uninstall the program I found both modify and uninstall options were shaded grey and didn't work.

I saw that the other solutions involved downloading this link:

http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/download/farbar-recovery-scan-tool/

I was going to do that and run it and put the report in this message but windows defender wasn't happy about it.

I'm poised to run it and get the report if that is the next step and very thankful that people take their time to help out in this way.

(i see that the sysinfo says windows defender is disabled. it says it's protecting me so i dunno what is going on there)

Preferred Solution: I have amazon assistant aa.hta. Can someone please assist?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

This program called Program Files (x86)\Amazon\Amazon Assistant\aa.hta keeps popping up and I can't uninstall it and I tried on programs and features, but I never even downloaded Amazon Assistant (I think) because there is no uninstall option. How do I get rid of it?

i original posted in security - as i dont have the machine
but will probably connect tomorrow

however, as i only really want advice from the experts here - i moved to the virus forum

I have just been helping a friend remotely on a laptop - windows 10 remove amazon assistant
which keeps popping up on the screen

usually adwarecleaner followed by malwarebytes gets rid of these

Adwarecleaner - listed it as an optional PUP and i made sure it was checked - also checked other amazon items WOW - etc
and removed and rebooted

Still came up

ran adwarecleaner again
this time it had removed other items - except amazon button1 (which is amazon assistant)
so removed it again and rebooted

still came up

ran malwarebytes

listed as a threat - quarantined
rebooted

still there

how do we get of this think
ALL google searches appear to indicate that Malwarebytes & Adwarecleaner - should remove

I am getting a pop up window that says C:\Program Files(x86)\Amazon\Amazon Assistant\aa.hta and it consistently opens a new window every 30 seconds or so. How do I get rid of this? I'm thinking it must be some sort of virus.

So first of all, English is not my main language so, sorry for my bad england ok?

I will be fast and right to the point but just to make things clear this is not a final fix for fully deleting the ''virus'' but to get rid of that pop up window all the time that seems to be strong enough to resist some of the best anti-viruses out there so here is the ****ing deal:

1: Press windows key + R and write ''services.msc''
2: Find the Amazon Assistant instance and right click it and go to proprieties(i think)
3: if you did it right you will notice that in one of the boxes it is set to ''automatic'', just change it to ''disabled'' and after it stop the service.
4: save clicking on the Ok button and then go to the task manager
5: find the Amazon Assistant exe and just finish it if possible.

Now you should notice that the annoying windows has gone and from there you can get time to find a tutorial to help you get rid of the Amazon Assistant files.

That's it, leave a comment if I helped you and if not also leave a comment and i will try to help if possible.

Hi,

I have looked through a few forums on removing the Amazon Assistant virus but I still have not removed it from my machine. I'm continuously getting the blank, white pop-up. When I went to remove the program, the "uninstall" option is greyed out and I am unable to get into the actual file to delete it because it keeps saying that the file is open. I haven't been able to close the pop-up for long enough to remove the file. As I type this, the pop-up is coming up every 10-15 seconds. I just need this gone, it's getting to be too much and my machine is slowing down exponentially.

Here are the specifications of my machine.

Unfortunately, I was reckless and deleted too much things.

I don't know what else happened, but now I keep getting pop-ups of a blank page saying C:\Program Files (x86)\Amazon\Amazon Assistant\aa.hta

I do not know what this is or what it means, but is is annoying and a little infuriating.

Please help,

Hi,

I'm not sure if this is the right place to come to for this. For the last few days, I have not been able to access amazon.co.uk or amazon.com. My housemate (who I'm on the same wireless network as) can access it on his computer, but when I try on mine, I just get redirected to my Sony Vaio google search page saying it can't find it. I've done three scans for viruses etc and got nothing. I've reinstalled IE7 and all that's changed now is that when I try and access amazon, it now comes up as Cannot display page, so it's not even redirecting me to the Sony Vaio google seach page anymore.

I know amazon isn't down as my housemate can get it. Can anyone suggest what's wrong here? To me it's very bizarre and has never happened before.

Tim.

Hi. Sorry to bother you for help, as I have read previous posts related to this particular topic, but I still cannot find a proper solution to rid this computer of Search Assistant. I have tried all the "easy" ways such as Ad-aware, CWShredder, Spybot and Spy Sweeper as well. Yet, I still get a search bar when I start IE. More annoyingly, I have Spybot-SD Resident on as well. This is not really a problem but Search Assistant constantly changes registry values and I have to approve or disapprove of them. I know there is a "remember this setting" option. However, the values differ every time!

Answer:Did my best, please assist.

This computer had many popups, probably a result of a user downloading a worm. Ad-Aware scans reveal various worms.

Command.exe should not be there, "fixing" it in Hijack this does not correct the problem.
Also seems to be something with the Dot1xConfig, this is a desktop with no wireless capabilities.

Answer:Please Assist With Hjt Log

First of all, you need to remove either Avast or AVG because there is no need to two anti-virus programs. Running two anti-virus programs will cause system slowdown and crashes.
Download Combofix from any of the links below, and save it to your desktop. For information regarding this download, please visit this webpage: http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/combofix/how-to-use-combofix

Link 1
Link 2
Link 3
**Note: It is important that it is saved directly to your desktop**

--------------------------------------------------------------------

1. Close any open browsers.

2. Close/disable all anti virus and anti malware programs so they do not interfere with the running of ComboFix.

--------------------------------------------------------------------

Double click on combofix.exe & follow the prompts.
When finished, it will produce a report for you.
Please post the "C:\ComboFix.txt" along with a new HijackThis log for further review.
Note:
Do not mouseclick combofix's window while it's running. That may cause it to stall

Welcome to TSF.

Please print the below instructions or copy them to Notepad.

Download CleanUp! http://cleanup.stevengould.org/ (Alternate Link if main link don't work - http://www.greyknight17.com/spy/CleanUp.exe ) and install it. Don't run it yet.

Restart your computer and boot into Safe Mode (if you don't know how, go to http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/foru...howtutorial=61 ). Make sure to close any internet browsers that may still be open.

Run a scan in HijackThis. Check each of the following if they still exist and hit 'Fix Checked' after you checked the last one:

R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Local Page =

Locate the following Files/Folders and delete them if they exist (if no location given, just do a search for them):

Hey - thanks in advance for taking a look.
It's been about a year since I've used this computer (been at college) but I've noticed that the machine is running significantly slower and there are a lot more anti-malware products. I'm not sure if they are legitimate products, and even so I don't know what would have prompted him to download so many.
Here's what I see just immediately:
AVG
Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware
a2HiJackFree
ZoneAlarm
Spybot-SD
Spyware Guard
Windows Security
Spyware Blaster

I don't know if any of these are being used, how frequently, what is necessary...?? Here are the logs:

I let my room mate use my computer while i was away and he got something on my computer that messed stuff up. (yes i know bad idea letting someone else use your computer, I thought it would be ok.) Anyway i had a bunch of viruses and stuff and after running spybot, ad-aware, and avast it seemed i got it all. But something is still in the system and i can't seem to get rid of it.

Backround updaters and linking from other sites wont load, although if i go there manually they will. My computer also seems to be thinking/processing something even when nothings running. I believe it also bring more viruses because later I found more but spybot and avast took care of those. I need help finding the source though and eliminating it. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi seta_runner

Thank you for your patience. I will be helping you deal with the issues raised in your log from this point onwards

Before we start jumping into things, here is a quick basic note which I mention to everyone. The fix which I have provided for you is for this computer only, it should not be used on any other computer. Each fix is tailor made for the specific task in hand. If for some reason you have system restore disabled, then please re-enable it before proceeding, an infected restore is better than none. Please read through the fix first and set enough time aside to complete the task in one session. If there is anything you feel needs clarification then please ask - do not guess! Thanks.

If this is a computer from a work place then please advise your IT department of the concerning issues before commencing past this point.

Please follow these directions in the order they are set out for you.

We need to disable your TeaTimer as it may interfere with the fixes that we need to make.

1) Run Spybot-S&D
2) Go to the Mode menu, and make sure "Advanced Mode" is selected
3) On the left hand side, choose Tools -> Resident
4) Uncheck "Resident TeaTimer" and OK any prompts
5) Restart your computer.

After all of the fixes are complete it is very important that you enable TeaTimer again, I will let you know when it is safe to do so.

Download ResetTeaTimer.bat by right-clicking on the link, and choosing Save As. ... Read more

Hello Toonweb and welcome to the BC forums. After reviewing your log I see a few items that require our attention. Please print these directions and then proceed with the following steps in order.Step #1Download and install ewido security suite. Update the program and then close it. Do not run it yet.Step #2Download nailfix.zip and unzip it to its own folder.Step #3Start in Safe Mode Using the F8 method:Restart the computer. As soon as the BIOS is loaded begin tapping the F8 key until the boot menu appears.Use the arrow keys to select the Safe Mode menu item.Press the Enter key.Step #4Navigate to the folder you unzipped nailfix.zip into and double-click on nailfix.cmd. Your desktop and icons will disappear and reappear, and a window should open and close very quickly --- this is normal.Step #5Start ewido and click on the Scanner button. On the Scanner page click on My Computer and then click the Start button to begin the scan. Let it run to completion and fix anything that it finds.Step #6Start HijackThis and click the Scan button to perform a scan. Look for the following items and click in the checkbox in front of each item to select it:R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = http://websearch.drsnsrch.com/sidesearch.cgi?id=R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Page = http://websearch.drsnsrch.com/sidesearch.cgi?id=R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search... Welcome to Major Geeks!

Please read ALL of this message including the notes before doing anything.

Pleases follow the instructions in the below link:

READ & RUN ME FIRST. Malware Removal Guide

and attach the requested logs when you finish these instructions.

**** If something does not run, write down the info to explain to us later but keep on going. ****
Do not assume that because one step does not work that they all will not. MGtools will frequently run even when all other tools will not.

After completing the READ & RUN ME and attaching your logs, make sure that you tell us what problems still remain ( if any still do )!
Helpful Notes:

If you run into problems trying to run the READ & RUN ME or any of the scans in normal boot mode, you can run the steps in safe boot mode but make sure you tell us what you did later when you post logs. See the below if you do not know how to boot in safe mode:

Starting your computer in Safe mode

If you have problems downloading on the problem PC, download the tools and the manual updates for SUPERAntiSpyware and Malwarebytes ( links are given in the READ & RUN ME) onto another PC and then burn to a CD. Then copy them to the problem PC. You will have to skip getting updates if (and only if) your internet connection does not work. Yes you could use a flash drive too but flash drives are writeable and infections can spread to them.
If you cannot seem to login to an infected user account, try using... Read more

I have been solving issues on my own via the helpful utilities and posts, but it appears that I now need some additional assistance. My IE browser is basically useless (posting this via Netscape). It starts out with the about:blank homepage and then changes itself into www.searchmeup.com. Trying to then go to different websites in IE often yields "404 - Website not found" messages. This may be due to a discrepancy in your computer's time setting. To check your date and time setting:On the taskbar, double-click the time.Verify that the date and time is correct. You can also get online support if you are having problems with Windows Update.Send error number to Microsoft (0x800C0008)Note This sends error information but does not create a support incident; you may or may not receive a response.-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------I also have noticed occasional popup windows with the message "Modem Not Found" ... even when my network connection has been disabled. Greetings, if you recall I had a previous post about my 7.1 catalyst drivers.
This is just a follow-up.
The problem, I have found, is that most new games/programs which I have set at high resolutions, and automatically adjust their refresh rate accordingly, have a black screen upon booting them up, and that continues until I forcefully go back to the desktop.
The maximum amount refresh rate I can go to is 60 Hz.
My monitor is not the problem, as this was not happening beforehand.
I do not know if it is truly a refresh rate problem, or something else in the programming, but I do need assistance.
I am very confident that the problem is software, not hardware, for I was using 6.2 drivers a while back, and they functioned perfectly at 75 Hz, and had no real problems.
Please help. I don't know what to do, other than roll back my drivers to Catalyst 6.2, but my rig seems to function faster under 7.1, and I want to see if I can keep it at that level.
My card is a X850XT 256MB AGP.

Answer:Can't go above 60 Hz - please assist.

hi i have a x800 pro powercolor and was thinking of flashing the bios in the graphics card to unlock 4 of my pipes and improve the preformance of my system as i get the same thing sometimes i also found that the org Catalyst is the best. I have been to powercolor and downloaded the new catalyst and found to have no problems with there catalyst but If you download a Catalyst like from ATI it is not allways the best due to the fact that many different types of manufacturers might use the ATI chip but they do not build the cards hardware the same way dew to copywrite resions and also try to get a edge over there comptition by building a little different, this is why i find the catalyst from the company that built that card has built the software and drivers for that card better then the ATI sight can give out as they are making that software for so many different companys.

If you want to look at trying to flash your cards bios read this link i found it very interesting but have to find a bios that is for x800 pro not xt http://forums.majorgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=108470

Now that I am back my computer is running really choppy, unwanted popups (I have popup blocker on google toolbar, and with popup stopper pro). I also have an unwanted toolbar and startpage for internet explorer that I cannot get rid of.

I posted my HiJackThis log file on here hoping maybe someone could be of some assistance in my situtation.

I appreciate your time, effort, and any suggestions you guys may/may not have for me.

Thank you again.

Question: IE9 and amazon MP3

I'm using IE9 in Windows Vista H.P. The last couple of weeks when I try to download an MP3 off Amazon, it fails every time. It will load in the Cloud player but won't download from there. India C.S says there is nothing they can do because it's a local file error. Also, some of the music I have downloaded from Amazon has disappeared. iTunes works fine, although can't figure out how to get that music to Windows Media Player. Is it the browser? It has been working up until now. Any ideas?                                                           Jim

Answer:IE9 and amazon MP3

I just purchased music from Amazon for the first time and downloaded it via IE9.  Since it worked for me, I don't know what your problem is.  I'm under the impression the amazon downloader uses Java.  Do you have Java installed and is it updated?  I just got a Java update today; it's Version 7 Update 5.   And, do you have the Amazon MP3 Downloader installed?  Do you see it in your Programs menu? Have you made any changes to your system since the last time you were able to download music? Do you have any other browser installed?  If so, try using it to download music.

Alright, I'm not exactly sure what the problem is. My first guess is I can't enable secure transactions on my wireless network (Linksys).

When I try to buy something on Amazon the site stalls for a sec then it doesn't come up even when I refresh.

Next I try to change the password on my AIM account, that doesn't work either. Or when I try to register a AOL name it doesn't display also.

I am using Internet Explorer v6.026 and Windows XP Home Edition. Linksys 2.0 Ghz wireless router. I also have a problem direct connecting on AIM 5.0, it says I'm behind a firewall, so I go to properties on my wireless network and I go to the advanced tab and it says "Windows can not display the properties of this connection. The Windows Management Instrumentation might be corrupted." Then it says try system restore. And I don't have any restore points, so as hard as this problem might seem, please try and help me. I want my stuff to work.

I think I have to enable secure transactions or take off firewall or something else, not sure.

Thanks for your time.

Here's a URL I can't access: http://aim.aol.com/redirects/password/change_password.adp?ScreenName=rokslow&CCode=US

Answer:I can't use Amazon or AOL.

Keep in mind I can't find my windows disk to repair the corruption. And try to keep it simple for me, thanks.

Hi,
New here and was not sure just where this question should be.
Whenever I look at anything on Amazon, for weeks afterward on every site I visit, there is Amazon's ad with a big picture of whatever product I had looked at.
This wouldn't bother me most times, except this is a family computer and it is impossible to keep gift ideas a secret when Amazon emblazons them onto every site anyone looks at.
Is there any way I can stop Amazon following me everywhere I go ?
Thanks for reading.

Has anyone else been experiencing a problem with not being able to log into Amazon.com? after attempting to log in, there is a 2nd log in screen which is asking me to enter my personal/sensitive info (this is other than my email address and password). I have never seen, nor had to enter this, before.
On Amazon's 2nd log in screen, I see this:
"We haven't seen you using this device before. To help protect your account, we just want to make sure it's really you". I have been using the same computer since 2012, so it does not make any sense for me to be seeing that message. and how does Amazon know what I am using anyway? I thought this might be a scam or a hacker ploy, so I ran 6 different anti-virus/trojan/malware/spyware programs (one of which took over 3 hours to run), but none of those found anything in my system (unless the virus is buried down so deep that it can't be found). Amazon is the only site that I can not log into. I am experiencing this problem through Firefox and Internet Explorer, but I also downloaded and installed Opera and Google Chrome just as tests to see if I were to have the same problem, and I did.
I have contacted Amazon 4 times, but the answers I received did not provide any help at all (they were mostly a non sequitur answer).
Am I the ONLY person on earth who is seeing that message? I am at my wits end and do not know what to do (I don't want to buy yet another pc to resolve the issue. plus, it may not resolve it... Read more

Question: new Amazon app?

Did anyone notice there is a new Amazon app for W10 and Mobile? I had the old app, tried to use it and got an error message. Then I was goofing around and noticed that there was a completely new app on the Windows store. If you have the old app that was discontinued (the one that came stock with W10 install I believe) it will not update to the new app. You have to do a fresh search on the store and install the new app. Hope its not a fake.

I have a strange problem. OR, Maybe it's just strange to me. Of all the sites we visit, our computer won't go to Amazon.com. Well, it will go there at first. Then when I click on a second item I get a popup at the bottom of the screen that says "Do you want to open or save ref=pd_sim_sbs_auto_2 from www.amazon.com?" Also, "ref=pd_sim_sbs_auto_2" and "www.amazon.com" is in BOLD print. To the right of that, in the same box are buttons to "Open" "Save" or "Cancel". This started a couple of days ago and to my knowledge only happens on Amazon. Amazon customer service told me by phone that they are not having any technical problems. Thank you in advance for any help. BTW- Don't worry about offending me by treating me as if I'm computer ignorant, because I am computer ignorant Tim

Question: Amazon.co.uk

Hi Everyone :)For a while now, my hubby has been unable to access the Amazon.co.uk site on his computer. It is a Pentium 111, using Windows 98. When he tries, all he gets his the headings at the top of the page in a horizontal line, but nothing underneath. When he clicks on a heading, music for instance, it takes him to the music page, but again, only the headings at the top come up and nothing underneath. Same goes for a particular search request. My hubby thought maybe it was because his computer/browser was old, but he can get on other sites no problem, play.com, hmv.co.uk, etc. He does have Zonealarm installed, but if it was that, wouldn't it stop him going on all the other sites, too?He would email Amazon's customer service people, but the site won't bring up the contact email or anthing else except the headings at the top.Any ideas as to what is going on?Michelle

Answer:Amazon.co.uk

Me again :)One thing I forget to mention is that this all seemed to start when Amazon suddenly started letting you 'search inside' books, etc.Michelle

Hello Everyone ;-) I have just installed HiJackThis - I ran spybot and found/corrected 30 problems - ran McAffee Scan - and deleted 1 trojan - and deleted 6 potentially harmful files.

I am still getting these annoying popups from optimizer.com or whatever it is....and my computer is running slow. I can see that there are some 'bad' things in the HijackThis log..but don't want to do anything until I receive expert advice.

Thank You in Advance,

Hi Nancy and welcome to TSF!!

Please print out or copy this page to Notepad. Make sure to work through the fixes in the exact order it is mentioned below. If there's anything that you don't understand, ask your question(s) before proceeding with the fixes. You should not have any open browsers when you are following the procedures below.

Go to My Computer->Tools/View->Folder Options->View tab and make sure that 'Show hidden files and folders' (or 'Show all files') is enabled. Also make sure that Display the contents of System Folders' is checked. Windows XP's search feature is a little different. When you click on 'All files and folders' on the left pane, click on the 'More advanced options' at the bottom. Make sure that Search system folders, Search hidden files and folders, and Search subfolders are checked.

For the options that you checked/enabled earlier, you may uncheck them after your log is clean. If we ask you to fix a program that you use or want to keep, please post back saying that (we don't know every program that exists, so we may tell you to delete a program that we think is bad to keep).

Turn off system restore by right clicking on My Computer and go to Properties->System Restore and check the box for Turn off System Restore. Click Apply and then OK. Restart your computer. After we are finished with your log file and verified that it's clean, you may turn it back on and create a new restore point.

Hi Guys

I have just upgraded my PC and used the copy of Windows 7 Pro that I have ... no problems there .... the only issue I have is the shop that installed this for me put 'USER" as the user name .... so in my C:\User Folder it reads C:\User\User. Not really an issue but I'd like it to read who it belongs to ... not USER. This has probally been asked so may times before but I cant seem to find any threads on it. If you can assist to change this ... kewl ... thanks

Answer:Rename Assist Please

Open control panel and go to user accounts, you can change your user account name there. This may or may not do what you want. It won't change the name of your actual folder just your user name the is displayed in windows. Another option would be to create a new user account with the name you want. Move your documents and other stuff over to the new account, then delete the old one. Click the manage another account option to get to the screen where you can create a new account.

Hi Guys, how you all doing?
i have read some posts on this forum and concluded to myself that you guys know your stuff, which is great as i do not :(

Anyway a little (sorry a lot) about me and my problem, i dj and i bought a brand new piece of kit which is a Vestax VCI-300 (google it to get more of an idea) as dj'n is now goind down the digitl road, anyway i purchased a refurb laptop an Advent 5301 which was barely months old with intel dual core 1.83Ghz and 2Gb of ram, running vista HP these specs are way above the specs required to run the DJ hardware, anyway i purposely bought the laptop to run with the hardware, at first everything seemed fine and then BSOD, this has happened many times and i have since sent the hardware back to which it has been tested and returned, no faults reported at vestax. my laptop i returned to PC world where it was purchased from, tech guys there were not very helpful, they asked me to do a full reinstall which i have done many times and problem remains. i will copy below the couple of crash dumps i have, there were more but these have been deleted, i'm tearing out my hair and hope that someone can shed light upon my frustrations.
i have also subscribed to driver update site and d/l latest drivers, i dunno what else i can do, all i know is its definately not the vestax DJ unit as not only was it tested back at vestax but they also replaced the main board in it just to be sure.
PS i have tried all USB ports, the unit works for so long then... Read more

Answer:hope someone can assist??

Well, I'm no expert (or even amateur), but I have lived through computer hell before. Since you said it's a refurb, I suspect that something on the motherboard may have been shaken loose when they refurbished it (because something had to be broken before they refurbished it). I used to have a Compaq Presario Laptop that had a bad motherboard, which cause strange symptoms from video glitches to full BSODs and data corruption. I think you should use BIOS to run a HD scan (Google it, it's easy to do), and if that doesn't find anything wrong, bring it into PC World and tell them (act like you know what you're doing) to run a full system diagnostic, I can virtually guarantee something is wrong.

Regards,
Mynaras

Hey there

I'm at a loss regarding my computer which I built 2 years ago. In the last few months I've suffered from random BSOD and I've tried numerous thing to no avail. Sometimes they can be weeks apart, but today I've had alot.
My system is OC'ed, but not a lot. The CPU normally runs at 3.0 and I've OC'ed it to 3.6. I've tried to revert to standard clocks but the BSOD persists. Now it may be that my system is just old, but I'd rather see if I can save it before I run off and purchase a new one.

Some info about my system which I built from scracth:

Zalman PSU 800W
Decent Tower with lots of room
Asus P5q-Pro Motherboard
Intel Q9650 3.0 @ 3.6 WaterCooled
Corsair 2x2GB Dual Ram
Radeon 4870x2 Graphic
Soundblaster X-fi Xtreme
Windows Vista Home Basic x64 OEM

I've uploaded the files as requested, but unfortunately my windows is in Danish, but hope you can get the gist of it anyway.

Thanks in advance for any help you can provide

I was connected to TalkTalk Broadband about two months ago without any major headaches and have been generally satisfied with the service. Yes the connection has to be reconfigured on occasions,it can be slowish at times, and the loss of an Email connection over a couple of evenings brought an admission that they were having problems and were working to resolve them. The major problem on installation was that the Assist and Go software (on the installation disk) could not be accessed, and an Email to TalkTalk querying this brought no satisfactory response.I was at the time running the Beta version of IE7.Subsequent to a major system failure and a complete software re-installation I suddenly found that I had access to the Assist and Go software. What had changed? The re-installation had replaced IE7 with IE6.I have since tried the whole scenario again:installing the latest version of IE7/losing the Assist and Go package/going back to IE6/getting Assist and Go back again. There is obviously some conflict between the two software packages. If you are thinking of upgrading to IE7 (and are a Talktalk Customer) - BEWARE!-or use Firefox where there do not appear to be any problems.

Answer:Talktalk's Assist and Go and IE7

I have today received an email from TalkTalk which confirms that their Assist and Go software does not support IE7. They are addressing the issue but no timescale is advised.

Answer:180 search assist please help me

WHAT mess?
You should post some information so that we can help you.
First, what Version of Windows are you using, if XP have you updated it with SP2?
Second, what is the nature of the problem? If you are getting any kind of error message, if you can included it EXACTLY as it appears in your response, that is a great help.
Second, has the problem just started happening and is it consistent (it always happens when you perform X)? The clearer you are about what you are doing when the problem occurs, the easier someone can provide help.
Third, what have you done so far, besides call Dell customer support? Have you updated your Antivirus and run it? Have you run scandisk and then defragged?

The more information you can provide us, the faster we can help solve the problem.
Cheers,
John

Ps.
It is an unsafe practice to post any but a throw-away Email address on ANY forum.

Hi All,
I have a friend who lives about 90 mi away and apparently he got this "Go To Assist" program installed on his computer. Says that he allowed them remote access to his computer (hmmm... that don't sound good to me) then they reported a whole bunch of "problems" found on his machine! I'm not sure how he got it on there as he is a stroke victim and has problems remembering. So, if anyone has any tips on how to get rid of this garbage, it would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you in advance,
Klewless

Answer:Problem - Go To Assist?

Without making him feel bad, find out exactly what happened during and after The Assist.  Find out what usb and/or dvd boots he has, what OS [oem or ms] dvds he has.  The solution process will depend upon what tools he has available.  Is he willing to let you Teamviewer into his computer?  You might be able to remote control in, ascertain more of just what has been done, ascertain what you can do about it.

Question: Search Assist

On most web pages, some Search Assist thing turns text into a link with an advertisement when you hover over it. It is pretty annoying. How can I remove this?

Answer:Hjt log file = please assist

Hiya

Are you still having this problem? If so, can you do the following:

Download TFC by OldTimer to your desktop

Please double-click TFC.exe to run it. (Note: If you are running on Vista, right-click on the file and choose Run As Administrator).
It will close all programs when run, so make sure you have saved all your work before you begin.
Click the Start button to begin the process. Depending on how often you clean temp files, execution time should be anywhere from a few seconds to a minute or two. Let it run uninterrupted to completion.
Once it's finished it should reboot your machine. If it does not, please manually reboot the machine yourself to ensure a complete clean.
Please download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware from Here or

Here

Double Click mbam-setup.exe to install the application.
Make sure a checkmark is placed next to Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then click Finish.
If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
Once the program has loaded, select "Perform Quick Scan", then click Scan.
The scan may take some time to finish,so please be patient.
When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
Make sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
When disinfection is completed, a log will open in Notepad and you may be prompted to Restart.(See Extra Note)
The log is automatically saved by MBAM and can be viewed by clickin... Read more
