AMD Crimsion Installer froze computer, but windows update works!

Question: AMD Crimsion Installer froze computer, but windows update works!

So i reformatted my entire drive and installed Windows 10 Creator x64 brand new.

I update the computer thru windows update.

Now, whenever i install AMD Crimision Relive Edition 17.9.2 or lower(like 17.5.0) it freezes AFTER the point where the computer monitor turns black and turn back on. The installation bar would progress and when gets to the end, the entire computer freezes.

I tried using AMD CLEANUP. It freezes at the beginning.

SO i am thinking near the end of installation, the software is cleaning up and that where the freezing occur.

The good news is that i can use windows update thru device manager to update AMD driver to the latest version with ZERO problem.

My card is a XFX BLack edition 7950 3GB.

Anyone having this issue?

Preferred Solution: AMD Crimsion Installer froze computer, but windows update works!

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I have some 32bit software that I installed on Windows 10 a few months ago.
For some reason I needed to reinstall that software, but now the 32 bit installer crashes.
Has a recent update knocked something off?

(I have tried running it as admin, compatibility mode etc. Not working.)

Answer:old 32-bit installer no longer works on Windows 10 since recent update

Hi Bansaw

Saw your comment "for some reason I needed to re-install"

I have no proof but I'm going to suggest that maybe the original is still installed in some capacity. I would look at manufacture's site for a removal tool and then re-run installer.

I downloaded the Windows 10 November update - it takes forever - but as it was installing the update the computer stalled/froze.  Now, after repeatedly turing it on and off, and running through most of the options on the startup interrupt menu, i am nowhere.  The computer goes between showing the Windows logo, showing a version that's smaller, turning black, and then flashing the Thinkpad logo (which normally is the beginning of the computer's starting).  And does it again.  And again. Help!  I don't have a usable computer any more.

Answer:Windows 10 update froze the computer and I cannot access the computer

This happened to me, too.  I had to push the computer power button to reboot in the middle of the update several times (which made me nervous), but eventually the update completed.

I have a BTC 5216IB DVD combo drive on my computer. I was running a firmware update on the drive while copying something from my other DVD drive onto my HDD and my computer froze. It froze in the middle of the firmware update and now will not detect the drive during startup, but instead stays frozen at "detecting IDE hardware" for a while. After a couple minutes it goes past this state (not detected the now defective drive) and goes to a screen that says "detecting raid array" or something (I do not have a RAID array or anything set up). I let it sit there for like 15 min and gave up on it.I then tried restarting my computer with the defective drive unplugged. This lets windows start up right away as normal but of course then my drive isn't plugged in.Is there a way for me to salvage my drive or is it totally screwed? Could plugging the IDE cable in once Windows is loaded make it somehow possible to run the firmware update again? Thanks

I believe some lenovo laptops have a bios recovery procedure and some do not. Either search the lenovo site or post your exact model and I can search for you.

What was the reason for updating the bios? Was there some fix you needed?

Hi, my 5 day old E5-571 froze during windows update last night, left on update screen overnight, had not changed by the morning, had to shut down using the manual button, turned on a few hours later, still stuck on the same update screen with no progress shown on the update. Phoned the customer helpline, was advised it was due to a build up of static electricity, told to unplug the power cable, press and hold the on button to use up any excess electricity, then plug in and turn on with a touch of the button as normal. Computer worked after this. Just wondering if this rings any alarm bells for other Acer users? Has anyone else had the same problem, and is it known as a recurring problem? Is this a known fix in the acer community (the unplug and press the start button to get rid of static fix)? Would be glad to hear replies!

I just got home and it seems to have froze on part 3 of 4. What can I do to "kick" it back into gear without interrupting or messing anything up?

Nothing you can do to kick it back into gear. Cancel the rest of the updates, restart and try again.

My mother bought this new computer today and we hooked it all up and it started all the updates and is doing the windows 10 update and has been stuck at 95 percent for several hours now.  Being it is a new computer I am not sure what I should do if this doesn't finish uploading as there is not a cd that came with it.  Not sure if I turn it off and back on what will happen.  Sure don't want to mess it up.  Any help would certainly be appreciated.  I live 45 miles from my mother so am unable to get the product code off it.

Answer:windows 10 update is froze at 95%

@motaner Hello;Allow me to welcome you to the HP forums! Several things are working against you when you first start up a new Win10 PC.First, like the previous OSs, Microsoft is doing Windows Updates every week, so no matter how new your PC is, it sat on a shelf or in a warehouse for some time (maybe several weeks), and it has catching up to do, regarding current Updates. What makes this different in Win10, is that MS has gone with new Cumulative Updates, which are HUGE in comparison to older OS versions, and these can take a LONG time to download and upate. So, last round I did took over 2 hours to complete!  So, you need to wait overnight to see if the PC finally finishes and stabilizes.  Make sure it is plugged in and not turned off during this process. Second, unlike with previous OS versions, there is no way to either choose updates or decline updates -- so there is no way to turn Updating off, like there was with older OS versions. Third, some recent Cumulative Updates trashed PCs -- and MS was finally forced to admit it after enough folks complained on the Internet about their PCs being trashed.  Since then, MS has put out a corrected version of that same Update. If you turn off the PC, you will do a "hard shutdown" and this will leave the PC in an unstable condition.  When you restart it, it will likely just retry the Updates; or worse, it will not boot completely and you will be left with an unusable PC. If ... My question is this: Should my laptop be okay as it now stands - Even though I did a force shutdown during a frozen update attempt????

DETAILS:

Today I woke up to an issue where Windows 7 Pro was froze on my laptop during an automatic updates from Shutdown last night. It was hung up on 72 of 121.

The laptop is 6 months old and I am in the middle of doing a fresh install of the OS and some software.

I read a few articles online on my desktop computer regarding remedies. Ultimately I force powered down the laptop and then went to this article:

https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/2700567

The "Fix it" went fine and eventually I successfully manually finished 49 updates. The computer seems to be running fine.

One article said I should do a "Restore" to an earlier point. I had yet to turn on that feature so I have no restore points.

My question is this: Should the laptop be okay as it now stands - Even though I did a force shutdown during a frozen update attempt????

Thanks,

Dekade

Answer:Windows froze during automatic update

Ran Windows Update on wife's computer today (Biostar A75-MH mobo, AMD A8-3850, 8Gb DDR3-1600, 64Gb Samsung 830 SSD boot drive, Win7 x64) and upon restart it froze at 35% installing the updates. After it did nothing for 30 min I rebooted. It boots to the desktop but with an error box saying failed to load sortbls.nlp. Explorer isn't working, can run any programs, Start menu won't come up, just sits with the blue circle spinning. Tried to run system restore but the 11-15 one disappeared from the list when I tried to run it and now just shows the only restore point as Windows Update Critical Update from today which fails. Startup Repair says no problems.

Any suggestions?

Dear Toshiba,

I need some advice and some help about some issues with my laptop Toshiba Satellite L550D windows 7 ( upgraded with windows 7 which I purchesed from You).

I have searched several Forums ( Microsoft answers, MSDN, toshiba forum) but I still have some trouble, and I feel free to ask for help this way.

Issue 1: My laptop does not recognize some drivers, and it happens as follows: I check it in Device manager, system device, ATI I/O communications processor smbus controller, shows message: " no drivers are installed for this device". When I chek "driver" there is message: "No drivers file required or have been loaded for this device".

When I tried to update driver, automatically there is message that driver is up to date, and in "browse my computer for driver software" it browses to the driver file location, then Select to the driver you want to install, installing driver, and then "windows has succesfully updated your driver software", has finished installing driver for the software ( see above ATI I/O...).

After that, I downloaded yesterday all available drivers from Toshiba site for my OS and my product, and the situtation is the same, it shows NO drivers file required or have been loaded for this device.

The same situation is with some other devices, as follows: 1) direct memory access controller, 2) high precission event timer, 3) numeric data processor, 4) progr... Read more

Answer:Unrecognized drivers and windows installer works on and on

SM Bus is the Chipset and is a very important device since so many other devices are attached to the SM Bus.

You need to install the AMD Chipset Driver (which may include the ATI Display Driver).

Also ensure the BIOS is updated.

I purchased a new notebook with Windows 7 in October. During the first weeks I uninstalled McAfee and replaced the harddrive. Since November Windows Update fails with error messages and defender does not start anymore. I made several virus scans (complete) with multiple antivirus programs but nothing showed up.Since it took my days to install various software, I do not want to re-install W7. I also have no good backup that I could restore. I am really surprised that there is not even a single entry regarding the error code in the Microsoft Knowledge base or elsewhere.I really would appreciate help.

On this recent windows update, 2/14/13, my computer froze on the "Preparing to configure windows" screen for several hours. I rebooted normally and the screen went to "configuring updates" and stuck at 67% for about an hour. I got frustrated with it and rebooted to safe mode to see if I could do a system restore and when I did it said there was no restore point back up!! What the hell? So I rebooted normally and now it is still just sitting on the "Preparing to Configure Windows" screen with the circle spinning. I am using W7 Ultimate on a Dell Dimension 2400. Can anyone help me with this issue?

Answer:Windows update froze, go to safe mode and no system restore back up

Hi davron94,

If there is no 'Restore Point' available, you may try uninstalling the recent 'Windows Updates' in 'Safe Mode' and try booting to 'Normal Mode' again: Windows Update - Uninstall an Update
Note: Please create a new 'Restore Point' before attempting this step: System Restore Point - Create

Hope this helps. Do reply with the findings.

Brand new computer, just took it out of the box. Came with windows 10 already installed. Worked fine at first. I deleted a couple of junk programs like the Ebay app. Transferred some documents, pictures, movies, and music files from an external hard drive onto the computer. None of those files were files types that (I would think) are high risk. Downloaded ITunes. Installed ESET smart security anti-virus program.

Now computer is frozen. Ctr-alt-delete doesn't work. Ctr-shift-esc doesn't work. The cursor can be moved around on screen but clicking anywhere, or on anything has no effect. Keyboard has no effect. The only way I can even restart is with the power button, but when I restart it starts up into the same frozen state. Have tried starting it in safe mode but can't get it to enter safe mode on startup.

Ideas?

Answer:New computer w windows 10 froze after 30 minutes

Your not alone , lots of people say the same . I have had Win 10 working fine many times and all of a sudden "freeze" and even after waiting a long while , no improvement .

I can't even keep track of how many times i have had to re install the OS to get it to work again only to do the same a day later.

Hi, when I try to install a "real" 64 bit program, my system blue screens and bombs. I can install programs that are internally 32 bit but been emended to work in a 64 bit environment. One example of a program that won't install at all is iTunes 9.0.3...message comes up that the installer is not working. I had installed the previous version, 9.0.25 with no problem. Both are native 64 bit.
In some other cases, the system just crashes.

How do I download a new 64 bit installer or fix the one I have? At one time, I could install 64 bit...something must have become corrupted.

Many thanks for your assistance.

Answer:Windows installer can't install pure 64 bit software but works with 32 bit in compat

hello
try running the sfc /scannow, to repair corrupt/bad files....worth a shot...

start > type cmd in the search box, right click "command prompt" in the menu....and choose "run as administrator"
type sfc /scannow press enter.... (note the space between sfc and /scannow)

should give an option to repair files it finds that are bad....good luck

ps if it finds files and can't repair, run it again

Hello,

When one follows the instructions in Microsoft kb924457 (a workaround for a Works 'Entry Point Error') and runs the Works Clean Up Utility followed by the Windows Installer Clean Up Utility, all works files located in Program Files are completely wiped out!! When I upgraded from Works 4.0 to 8.0 I kept all works files in Program Files instead of moving them to My Documents.

The utility(s) wiped out 10 years of works personal data files.

I have tried a variety of recovery programs that all recover about the same but none will recover these files (this was a really thorough utility), .wdb, .wks and .wps files.

I contacted Microsoft and all they did was search C: drive, including temp and hidden, folders via live assist. They would not recommend any third party recovery programs.

Are there any recovery programs that you would recommend that would do the trick? I am dumbfounded at how these various recovery programs I have been using have found deleted files from up to a year ago but not these works files.

Thanks

I've had my computer set up for over a year without problems etc.

Came home from work today, on internet as normal, everythings fine. Then Windows (Vista 64) locked. I restarted the computer but the network wouldnt connect.

Been on for hours trying everything I could find. Im currently connected to the router now on an OLD OLD system so I know the router is fine (Linksys WAG200g).

If i assign IP auto, i get the 169. thing, i.e. don't get one from router. I can ping myself (127.0.0.1)... so I dont think it's a network card problem.

If i ping the router from an auto IP i get an error 1231. If i ping the router from a manual IP 192.168.1.x, then it just times out.

Tried uninstalling drivers, updating them, disabling the network drivers. (2 on board LAN ports on my mother board ASUS p5n32e-sli plus). Nothing.

IP config all is below, it has a lot of random tunnelling things that i have no idea what they are?!. Note that i have a hamatchi network device on atm, but ive tried uninistalling, disabling, etc...

HELP! Please.

Hello there - I'm new, and I'm currently trying to fix my mother's computer.

Ok, here we go.....

My mother ended up having DNSbasic and other crud on her computer (she likes games).  I managed to clear that out using Norton, SAS, and Malwarebytes.  I also deleted some program folders and registry entries manually in safe mode (I know - Big NO-NO )

Anyway, I ended up with clean scans of health, and the computer and its browsers (at least firefox) was working great - fast connections, no pop-ups, no nothing .  I then decided to be more thorough and try to do a "hijack this!' kind of post on another tech site just to make sure I need nothing further (like a recovery console repair).

I downloaded the DDS.scr and gmer files (following another forum's instructions).  Disabled my norton 360 per instructions and my wifi.  Ran the scan and it seemed to work, but then it froze.  No action whatsoever from the computer.  I waited 5 min. or so and then decided to just cut the computer off - no proper shutdown.  I had no other choice.  Ctr+Alt+Del nor anything else was working.

When I restarted the computer, the startup was a little slower - like there were more processes going on.  But it started well enough, and I tried running it again.  Same problem, same solution.  I cut it back on (start up was slow again, but not any slower than before), logged back on, and moved on to the gmer file.... Read more

Answer:slow windows startup after computer froze during DDS program scan

IMO...whichever forum/website started you running malware scans...is the forum/website that you should be posting in.

Assuming that there was some reason that they started you on that partcular path...the trail should be followed until resolution of issues resulting from following that path.  My perspective is that we don't know what they saw...why a given course was suggested...and the possibility of suggestions/advice from another site...is fraught with the possibility of unintended error.

Your issues don't sound like O/S issues to me, based on what you've stated.

Louis

Lenovo 3000 n200 0769 BRG As per the title my laptop froze during a bios update, I now have a ?300 paper weight. When turning on the fan spins, the cd tray works, but the screen stays blank and only a single power light stays on. I tried starting the machine with no RAM inserted to see if the bios would beep. It didnt. I think i need to reset the CMOS  and in another thread there were instructions as follows " two exposed metal traces labelled CLRP1. You need to short those traces together for a few seconds." I can get to the traces CLRP1, but it doesnt work. Could someone please verify how to short those? What do you actually do?I lightly pushed a flat head Metal screwdriver on the traces, also tried a paperclip, other screwdrives, and basically everything metal. Could someone clarify what needs to be done? Thanks so much

Answer:Froze during BIOS Update

If the bios is corrupted, yes, it may be bricked. Search the web and these forums for "phoenix bios recovery"there may be some hope. I have never tried any of the solutionsI have found about a Bios recovery disk. The solution for a bios "hard reset" on my N100 was to dis-assembleit to the point where I could short the leads of the bios backup batteryfor about 5 seconds. The bios on mine was not corrupted, though. Find the Hardware Maintenance Manual for your laptop model HEREand look for how to remove the top cover. The battery is probablyon the bottom of the motherboard. A bit tedious and complicatedif you are doing something like this for the first time.

Even when I click the Updates it searches to see what update have been installed and never stops.
This is a new install of 7 pro.
Could one of my updates have caused this or one to delete to fix it?

Answer:The update installed is froze

Follow these instructions exactly.
First, set Windows Updates to never check for Updates.
Next reboot your computer, then install KB3020369, if not installed.
Then install KB3172605.

Windows updates should return to normal. You can then reset your updates to automatically check for updates if desired

Was running the Mac OSX combined update when the iBook froze. It now takes forever to boot up, and once it does, it doesn't really work.

No input is received from either keyboard or mouse, but I know the system isn't frozen because the screen saver does kick on after 10 minutes. However, the screen saver is incredibly laggy (it's just the default random lines screen saver, and those lines move very slow).

The upper right battery indicator now shows the battery with a huge X across it (even when I remove the battery and run it just on AC power). When I keep the battery in, all 4 lights on the battery indicator remain on.

Any suggestions on what I do? I'm no longer under warranty and don't have any experience troubleshooting MACs. Is there a way I can get the update on a cd and somehow have the MAC automatically run it?

Thanks.

I would try one of the local Apple stores, the tech should be able to help you for free if your nice to them and might even had you a update CD

Problems with Windows 10 Updates are an ongoing issue now.
and the possible solution to overcome this is by downloading the updates manually from the Microsoft?Update Catalog or using tools like WHDownloader (formerly Windows Hotfix Downloader)

The issue is that some times the packages will be CAB files and that's when the normal users won't be having an option about what to do next. Thus, to tackle this issue, I have managed to make a tiny program which will indeed help to Install those Cab file packages in windows without any troubles.

The program is in the attachment.

Every time I click Open on the Windows Live Installer executable it fails to execute, and the folder I had it in instantly disappears. I tried a number of folders, and I've tried Run, and the same thing always happens. The file is big, 214 MB, but I think I've successfully run installation files bigger than that.

I don't know what you mean by Windows Live Installer. XP shipped with Windows Installer 3.1 and I always update it to version 4.5 when I need to re-install XP. There's Windows (Live) Essentials. Is that what you mean? It's interesting that the folder disappears. :confused

Helo,
I have a HP-dv6258se pavilion notebook with AMD processor and vista 32 bit running on it. I was recently trying to update my BIOS as my notebook was producing lot of heat. I looked in HP.com and there was a thread which requested customers to update BIOS to resolve this issue.

So I downloaded the BIOS software and tried to update when suddenly the screen went blank in the middle of the process. I waited for around 30mins and nothing happened . I tried to restart and after that there was no display. The LED lights on the notebook are on now but nothing else seems to work.

Could you help me in this? I tried looking in other threads but could not find any solution?

Thanks in Advance

Answer:System froze during BIOS update

Unless your unit has the BIOS recovery option [which not many do] you will probably have to send it in to get the BIOS chip reprogrammed.

The only other option is if there is a DOS based flash utility you could make a Windows 98 boot disk & try reflashing IF it will boot off of the floppy doesk which is highly doubtfull

Hi, I have a netbook, and it was updating after shutdown, and then the netbook froze. In the end, I had to turn off the power, and now the netbook turns on and then blue screens. I have tried to go to startup repair and it didn't work. I have also tried to look to restore a previous version, but there is none. What should I do?

Edit: I ended up having to reformat.

Answer:BSOD after netbook froze during update

When Updates foul the PC's ability to boot, the solution is to use the created System Restore point to restore from System Recovery Options.

If Recovery Options are not working correctly when you tap the F8 button, then you'll need to use the Installation media or Repair CD. You can burn the Installation Media from Step 5 of Troubleshooting Windows 7 Failure to Start which also has all steps possible to repair, or rescue your files to run Recovery or Reinstall.

any suggestions?

In task manager, it shows "windows modules installer worker" and "update helper (32 bit)"; they both won't close and hog the cpu usage using 40% or more each. locking up the machine as to be almost unusable.
I ran the cleanup logs but could not send from that machine so am using another laptop. Also, I could not install chrome browser and IE would only go to www-searching.com.
This must be some type of malware or virus.

Was browsing, and got hit by one of those fake security scanner sites. Just shut down. When I started back up Windows installer tried to update SonicDVD but was unable to find a component, can't remember what it was. Each time it started trying to install I would press cancel. I would have to do this four or five times and it would stop for about five minutes. Then it would jump back into the update routine and I would have to go through the same process. Finally I got fed up with it and uninstalled all traces of Sonic. Now since Sonic is gone, The dialogs just flash past on my screen every five minutes or so. They don't stop anything, but there is something out there that shouldn't be there. Don't know what it is, don't know how to get rid of it.

just did a fresh install yesterday and im having trouble getting windows updates. i left the machine on overnight and when i came back in the morning, it was still "searching" for updates in windows update. i saw alternative solutions online including downloading the "SP2" for win7 and installing manually via the standalone installer, but that appears to be stuck as well.

any suggestions?

additionally, the windows update process shows up as "explorer.exe" and not "wuauclt.exe" under task manager

the standalone installer shows up as "wusa.exe" though..

Hi, all,

New to this forum, long-time UNIX software guy using Windows on a laptop computer for a seminar I teach.

I bought this laptop refurbished from some fly-by-night outfit, and since I've had the thing, almost every attempt to install new software has failed. The machine will go through part of the installation and then display an msiexe.exe error or an installation failure error, then exit the install. Attempts at uninstalling software also fail pretty frequently.

Today I manually deleted the 60-day trial version of Msoft Office 2007 that I downloaded in May, installed RegCure to clear up the registry, and downloaded what I thought was the latest version of the Win XP software installer, a file called WindowsXP-KB942288-v3-x86.exe. It downloaded and installed cleanly, and then...

.,,my next two installs crashed, same as before. I tried installing Msoft Office 2003 and got a Windows Installer error very early into the process. Then I downloaded OpenOffice 3.1.1 for Windows, and got the same Installer error early in the installation process.

Returning the laptop is not an option, I've had it too long. I need to get it working properly. In particular, I need word processing and something that can display a lengthy PowerPoint 2007 presentation.

Where should I look next?

Thanks in advance for any assistance.

Hello,

I am having issues update my Windows Vista OS

In addition to the Modules Installer error, I have also received (although much less frequently) a WMI Provider Host stopped working error...

The only thing that changed with my system, and this was imediately before I started having issues, was I got new monitors.

I went from two generic 19" square LCDs to two 24" widescreen LEDs and I am running 1960x1080 now. I dont think that should matter but it is the ONLY thing that has changed.

Dell would not ship Ultimate with those specs, and dont use Gigabyte motherboards.

Laptop froze during bios update. Now black screen when turned on with sound of something running in computer and power light on. The reason for bios update was because during routine updates from lenovo it was included with no way to back out of it. The exact computer is a thinkpad edge 14" 64 bit model no. 19923u. I have done tons of research and would like to know if there is a bios recovery program. Some say there is by creating minicrisis disk?? Also...I am not sure of the EXACT bios file for my laptop if I should need it. I hope someone can help me with these two questions. Thank you so much and i really appreciate anything you can tell me!

Hello bren48,Well researching you issue today I have came to the solution that it will be a system board replacement. If you're still under warranty you can call in to our support center. Had iTunes and tried to update to version 5. This froze system and it did complete so now I have no iTunes. Error 1316 network error attempting to read Windows\installer\iTunes.Msi now shows and then error 1603. It seems to be an Apple error reading other sites but cannot find an answer. Have uninstalled iTunes, whatever was still on my system has cleared but still no joy. Have used Regseeker to clear out the registry but still the same answer. Can install Quick Time separately so will make do with this FTB. Does anyone have aa entry where I can download iTunes 4.9 which was working perfectly. Maybe I could try that but I cannot find a site as it all goes back to version 5Help.

Hi,

I was updating to the latest bios for my Acer 5102 wlmi, everything seemed to be going fine during the process until it got to about step 13 of 17 on the update. At this point the screen displayed a bunch of vertical lines and wouldn't respond to anything. I left it for about twenty minutes hoping that it would somehow finish the process.

At this point, I decided to try to power the machine down, power button wouldn't work so I unplugged it from the wall and popped the battery out. Put the battery back in fired it up and nothing, blank screen... no bios I presume. My first thought was to find the cmos battery and remove it for awhile to reset the bios... I opened it up and found the cmos battery soldered to the motherboard.

So, I've read that it's possible to do an emergency recovery of the bios from floppy, but my laptop doesn't have a floppy drive! What do I do? Will recovery from cd work, or a flash drive?

Any thoughts are greatly appreciated.

Kris

Dell vostro 220

My computer was lagging and wasn't connecting to the internet properly, and then it froze so I shut it down. When I started it back up, the BIOS loaded but then went to a blank black screen with a mouse. I can move the mouse around. It won't load any further. I've tried all the safe modes and it does the same thing. And I tried cleaning all the dust off the computer. I've tried waiting at that screen for longer than 3 hours. It just stays there.

It's possible that it's a virus but I don't know. How can I solve this problem? Because I can't get into the computer to do a system restore. Please help, thank you!

Did a fresh install of win7 x64 and had the problem with windows update checking for update forever so decided to install updates via wsus offline installer

Wsus found and installed 210 updates and installed them then found another 28 but in the meantime window updater that i left running found 217 updates as well so now im installing the updates with windows updater and i'm not sure if that's the right thing to do?

Should i reinstall windows again and install updates only with wsus?
Or windows updater will skip the updates installed by wsus?

Not sure what to do now any advice please?

I've had lots of problems with this desktop, and have wiped it twice. I now cannot run some programs, and found it's due to an older version of Java. Was told to get an updated version.

In following instructions, I was frustrated to find I could not remove the Java program that's in my Add/Remove Programs. It's Java 2SE, or some such thing. I get "Windows installer cannot do this, yada, yada, and that it's probably likely due to being in Safe Mode or not having Windows Installer properly installed. Contact System Administrator. Right.

I have downloaded Java 6, also. Tried, that, same result.

I found these forums on a Google search and saw the same result from someone else....and the advice was to remove the old Java first. I can't do that.

So what can I do?

First off System Specs:

Asus G60VX Series Notebook
Windows Vista 64-Bit Home Premium (Yes, im sure it is 64 bit)
Nvidia GeForceGTX 260M CUDA 1GB
4GB RAM
RealTek HD Audio

IF you need to any other specs just ask.

PROBLEM:

Basically I bought this computer for gaming and several games Ive bought recently wont run so I figured I would update the graphics driver just to be safe and then go from there. I download the installer for the latest nvidia driver just fine, and when I go to install it says Im not running Vista 64-Bit when I clearly am and closes. And when i try the 32bit installer it says it cant find compatible hardware for the drivers, an also untrue statement.

Help please?

I'm running a windows xp 32bit OS.

Something as simple as trying to install printer drivers has turned into a myriad of issues that are now beyond my comprehension.

I'll walk you from the beginning providing all information about what has happened since the system was working fine to where it is now:

drivers were not installing, contacted HP service and support to troubleshoot issues.. nothing accomplished.

Tried windows update to see if that would help. Afterwards I was left with a new error problem: Windows Installer

Whenever any program attempts to install I receive a popup that reads as follows:

"Windows Installer"
Preparing to install...
[Cancel]

followed by a second popup that reads as follows:

"Windows Installer"
The Windows Installer Service could not be accessed. This can occur if you are running Windows in safe mode, or if the Windows Installer is not correctly installed. Contact your support personnel for assistance.
[OK]

What I have found through some googles were instructions to try and run a "clean boot" and then try installing Windows Updates again. I have done the "clean boot" and when attempting to install the updates I am presented with a list of updates that were not able to be installed.

I do not know what else there is to do, but I thank you for your time in reading this post in the hopes that some assistance may be found.

What Service Pack to Windows XP do you have installed?

Maybe worth installing the Windows Installer 4.5 Redistributable HERE and reboot, then try Windows Update again.

Trying to install the update but having a problem with the instructions listed below.

"1. Select and copy the following to your clipboard:

reg delete HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\SQMClient\Windows\DisabledSessions /va /f

2. Click on “Start”, then “All Programs”, then “Accessories”

Right click on “Command Prompt”, then click on “Run as administrator”
In the UAC prompt, verify that the program’s name is “Windows Command Processor” and then click “Yes”
Right click on the “Administrator: Command Prompt” window’s black area, then select “Paste”
Press “Enter”, you should see “The operation completed successfully”.
If you see “ERROR: Access is denied”, please make sure you followed Step 3.

Close the “Administrator: Command Prompt window”
This script above simply removes the configuration change, and will prevent future CEIP related crashes. The above fix is permanent, and will only need to be run once."

When it says "Right click on "Command Prompt", then click on "Run as administrator" I right clicked but there is no "Run as administrator" option ? There is a run with parameters or a run as..what do I do next ? Thanks

Hi. Windows Update has not been working on my Win7 x64 Ultimate PC. I was too busy during the school semester to address the issue, so the issue has been around for a while.

I have cleaned out all the issues in the Action Center.

I used the Update Troubleshooter. It reported "Repair Windows Update components" and "Fixed". But then I ran the troubleshooter again and it gave me the same message.

I ran Update, but it failed again.

I ran "sfc /scannow", it fixed some problems. I re-ran "sfc /scannow" and it found no problems. I ran Update Troubleshooter, again, and it said Windows Update Components were "Fixed", again.

I ran Update, but it failed (again).

I ran a checkdisk (on Windows restart). It found something wrong with "C:\Windows\Installer\890b53b.msp" and said it fixed them.

I ran Update, but it failed. I ran Update Troubleshooter and it fixed Win Update Components, again.

I ran Update one more time, but it failed.

I tried to open C:\Windows\Installer\890b53b.msp and got the warning "This patch package could not be opened. Contact the application vendor to verify that this is a valid Windows Installer patch package."

I also tried Win Update with AVG (virus scanning software) turned off.

Now what do I do? I cannot do a system restore because I've let this problem linger and the restores only go back to 5/19 (why so few? where are the rest?).

Hey everyone, it's been a while.

I'm a little frustrated (which I guess, since I'm here, goes without saying), but there's some high quality music production software I want to try the demos for, but when I try to install them on my desktop PC, running XP Home, the installer gets to the point where it tries to set up a path, and it tells me neither of my two HD's have enough space (the program is 10 MB, one drive has 23 GB free, the other 9 GB). There's 5 demos in all, and they all do the same thing.

OTOH, on my laptop, which runs XP Pro, they install without a hitch (the drive on the LT has about 3 GB free).

Any ideas on what could be hanging these things up consistently? I tried several times and always got the same result. There's no active virus scan software running when I do this.

Thanks much,
Dave

Your computer may be reading the HD incorrectly, which is most unlikely, but still possible. Also, you might try defraging and seeing if that helps a bit. Sorry I can't really help you any further.

Hi, I'm completely stumped. I have an HP tm2t-1000 tablet pc running Windows 7 professional x64. A couple of weeks ago, the hard drive died on me. It was a 500GB 7200rpm SATA drive, but I thought I'd splurge and order a 750GB to replace it. I received the drive, dropped it in and reinstalled Windows from the HP supplied recovery CD. Everything seemed fine until I had some problems installing a piece of software, then I had problems installing another piece of software, then another. I figured it was just a bad install so I wiped the drive and installed windows again. unfortunately, this had no effect, and the same problems persisted.

Seems like the deeper I dig, the more problems I find. The main installer I've been having a problem with is mixed in key 5. the installer quits halfway through every time, no error or anything, just disappears. through the support forums, I determined that this is an issue with Microsoft dot net framework, and it was recommended that I install it through Microsoft's standalone installer. However, when I try to do this, the installer gets to the point where it finishes verifying the installer package and then just sits there and doesn't install. I figured maybe it would work better if I updated windows, so I went to the windows update section of the control panels, and the window hangs whenever I open it. Eventually I am able to get it to load the window (I still don't know how), but when I click "Check for upd... Read more
