"USB Device Not Recognized Device Descriptor Request Failed" but ...

Question: "USB Device Not Recognized Device Descriptor Request Failed" but ...

Hi,
I sporadically gets the "USB Device Not Recognized Device Descriptor Request Failed"; however, while I have 6 USB devices connected, none of them seem to be the cause of the error. When I use devmgmt.msc to get the Hardware Ids, the value is simply "USB\DEVICE_DESCRIPTOR_FAILURE". I use TARGET software to control two joysticks and a rudder. (Besides these three USB devices I have a keyboard, a mouse and a TrackIR 5). In some instances everything works even though I got the error but in others instances none of the joysticks are working as expected. Sometimes restarting the computer helps or uninstalling the "mystic" USB device, however the problem always reappear and I would really like to get rid of it permanently.
Anyone got some idea what could be causing this?
I have updated all drivers but it did not help.
Thanks,
Klaus

Preferred Solution: "USB Device Not Recognized Device Descriptor Request Failed" but ...

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I'm experiencing slim keyboard not being recognized in the Windows 8.1
The keyboard was working fine until just one day it just stopped working.
I tried factory reset literally 8 times along with most recent BIOS update and dell's recommended update software. + power setting --> disabling power saving on USB
It still come up as unrecognized each time even with fresh reinstall.
I was wondering if this is a hardware issue or just software bug from factory reset.
I don't think there is a available driver for this kind of problem is there?

When my girlfriend connects external USB device to any of the USB ports on Windows 10 Home she gets message:
USB Device Not Recognized.
She can not charge USB device via USB port.
I went to device manager and under USB Controllers I see following:
Unknown USB Device ( Device Descriptor Request Failed).
I tried some tricks I googled for this message but none of them returned result.
She didn't get any of the drivers with this device which needs to charge.
What should I do to be able to charge this device via USB?

Answer:USB Device Not Recognized Device Descriptor Request Failed

Try the device on a different USB port. This will figure out if problem is caused by a broken port.
Connect the device to another PC. This will figure out if the external device has problem.

Open Device Manager and expand category Universal Serial Bus Controllers and locate the USB device which is not being recognized by Windows.

Right-click on the device and select Uninstall from the context menu.

After finishing the uninstallation, restart your PC then Windows will reinstall the device automatically.

The problem can be caused by faulty USB driver. In this case, updating driver would fix the problem.

Obtaining Hardware ID's to help Identify Hardware
- Go to Start and type in "devmgmt.msc" (without the quotes) and press Enter
- Expand the "Unknown USB Device" category by clicking on the + sign to the left of it
- Right click on the "Unknown device" (if there's more than one, do this for all of them) and select Properties.
- Then select the Details tab.
- In the dropdown box, select "Hardware IDs" - and match the info to one of the following descriptions:
- - If the Hardware IDs description contains VEN_ and DEV_, then let us know the 4 characters immediately after the VEN_ and the 4 characters immediately after the DEV_
this is a PCI device and we'll look up the information at http://www.pcidatabase.com
- - If the Hardware IDs description contains VID_ and PID_, then let us know the 4 characters immediately after the VID_ an... Read more

I have a flash drive that I previously used in public computer lab (where many viruses linger) the other day to do my work. As I got home, the flash drive isn't working anymore, saying "USB Device not Recognized". I also noticed that it really took me a while to finally, safely remove it from the computer lab's PC. So I actually wonder if it actually removed my flash drive properly.

On Device Manager, it says "Unknown USB Device (Device Descriptor Request Failed)".
On the Properties, the device status says "Windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems. (Code 43) -- A request for the USB device descriptor failed."

My flash drive is a Kingston Flash Drive DataTraveler (DT100) 16GB, and my PC is running on Windows 8.1.

Things I have tried:
- Shut down my PC, unplugged power and removed battery, waited for a while, booted my PC and try plugging in again.
- On Device Manager, uninstalled it and scanned for hardware changes, it still returns as "Unknown USB Device".
- On Device Manager, I clicked "Update Driver Software..." and it returns me a message saying "The best driver software for your device is already installed".
- Unfortunately, when I visited Kingston's website to check if there is driver for this specific flash drive, there isn't any... "There are no downloads or drivers available for this product".
- Used Windows 8's Troubleshooting tool. It only detected my problem, but was un... Read more

Answer:USB not recognized (Device Descriptor Request Failed)

if you have tried on other systems using different OS then the error is normally because of issues with the item not the PC , it might be 'confused' or have corrupted data or be faulty.

If you have the data still stored elsewhere...then you may be able to reset the flash drive and see if it recognises it then.

I'm not sure if there is a reset switch anywhere on that stick.

I upgraded to Windows 10 a while back. Every time I open the computer I get a pop-up notification telling me the USB device is unrecognized. I have no USB devices in any of my 3 USB ports.
I sent my computer in twice. No help. They just uninstalled everything and reinstalled everything and told me it should be fixed. It is not. I then went about updating every driver in my Device Manager. I uninstalled the Unknown USB Device and then updated
other drivers. Certain drivers (such as PCI Express Root Port #3 - 9C14) when updating would also reinstall the Unknown USB Device, which I would then uninstall and keep working down the list. At the end of updating EVERYTHING I scanned for hardware changes
and "found" the Unknown USB Device.
From what I can tell, and I know very little about this stuff, my computer can't name one of my USB ports. Since it can't figure out what it's called it can't download the proper driver for it. Since it can't download the proper driver it can't work properly.
The practical result from this is that one of my three USB ports does nothing when I put in any USB item (connect my android phone, thumb drive, presentation clicker, etc).
I've looked on tons of forums. My current thought is that if I can tell my computer what the deice is or download the right driver and tell my computer to use that driver for this device it should solve my issue. But I don't know how to know what the name
of the USB port should be (I imagine it woul... Read more

Hello everyone,
i hope you can help me sorting out this issue that is causing me a hard headache at the moment.

I've bought this new Lenovo Z50-70 laptop with windows 8.1 preinstalled on it. Fresh new.

I'm trying to connect via usb a guitar audio interface (Line6 POD HD500) so i installed the drivers via the .exe setup file i downloaded from Line6's site.
The device worked fine on my previous HP pavilion with windows 7.

Now when i completed the installation, i connected it and i had this error:Windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems. (Code 43)A request for the USB device descriptor failed.
I used slimdrivers to update all the other drivers, in case it was a conflict causing the error.
I checked via command prompt with command "pnputil -e" and i saw a driver from the vendor of the device listed, so it is installed correctly i think.
I tried all USB ports i have, 3.0 and 2.0 on one side of laptop and 2.0 on other side.

When on device manager, if i click update drivers and choose the "let me pick from a list of device drivers.." i don't see the company name of the device.

i saw that another guy posted a really similar problem on SevenForum and he figured out how to force windows to use the drivers but he didn't post the solution.. Here is the post: Can't get Windows 7 x64 to use the drivers I've installed repeatedly Solved - Windows 7 Help Forums

I was just working happily when my Microsoft Bluetooth Mouse just suddenly stopped working.
The Bluetooth settings page says "Bluetooth is turned off" and there are no options on the settings page or the system tray to turn Bluetooth on.
The Device Manager now has "Unknown USB device - device descriptor request failed" where it did not before.
Other devices all seem to be working fine - USB devices plugged in are being recognized and work properly. Only BT seems to be broken.
I've tried:
uninstalling the device and rebooting
installing the latest updated chipset drivers from the dell website
windows updates
pretty much all of the advice here: http ://troubleshooter.xyz/wiki/fix-usb-device-not-recognized-device-descriptor-request-failed

Any other ideas?
Thanks

Answer:XPS 15 9550 Bluetooth stopped working (Unknown USB device - device descriptor request failed)

So in desperation I just went into BIOS settings to see if there are any BT settings that may have become disabled. I didn't see any, and I didn't change any other settings.
After rebooting, BT and my mouse is now working again.
Something seems to be really flaky here, but hopefully this will help others with the same issue.

Hi onyx,
This error means a device driver notified the operating system that the device failed. This circumstance can occur if the device hardware fails or if the device driver fails.
Have you tried to update the device driver for test?
Please follow this guide trying t resolve this issue:

My computer keeps telling me Unknown USB Device (Device Descriptor Request Failed), so I looked up how to fix it and they told me to uninstall it then scan for hardware changes and it will reappear working properly. Only it did not come back working properly, it came back the same. I am also 98% sure that this "unknown USB device" is my built-in webcam that has never once worked. So if someone wants to help me out and allow me to use my webcam that would be great!

Fresh install of Windows 10 and the last driver I need to sort out is the above.

I believe it is my powered USB 3 hub to which I plug in my keyboard and mouse. Technically it is working but I don't like seeing yellow triangles on devices.

So are there any fixes?

Answer:Unknown USB Device (device descriptor request failed)

If it's a generic USB 2.0 Powered Hub then technically there's should be no drivers needed by Windows, if it's a USB 3.0 Hub then I'm unsure (since I don't own any USB 3.0 Hubs).

Might be a Windows bug, basically Windows can't find the description information to display the Hub's name in the Device Manager example: Generic USB Hub, Root Hub Device, etc....

I'm pretty sure everything is working as should, you're good minus the minor annoyance if all device connected through the USB Hub is recognized by Windows; if you right click Properties on the yellow triangle it probably says "The Device is working properly".

I am running the Lenovo Ideapad y510p (the GT755m SLI version). I had my USB mouse and my flash drive connected to the 2x 3.0 USB ports (the ones on the left), everything was fine until suddenly both of them stopped working. When I try connecting the flash drive nothing happens, however, when I try connecting the USB mouse it says Unknown USB device (Device Descriptor Request Failed) in the device manager, windows error message "USB Device not recognized" also pops up in the bottom right corner. When I try connecting either of them (the mouse of the flash drive) to the 3rd USB port (the usb 2.0 port) they both work perfectly fine without any errors at all. I would like to know what may have caused that error and if there is any solution at all. Thanks in advance, Mersif.

Answer:Unknown USB device (Device Descriptor Request Failed)

hi kmugal,

Welcome to the Lenovo Forums

The issue that your having is most likely the one discussed in this article.

If you have tried the USB 3.0 (x2) and USB 2.0 (x1) ports with the same issue, consider the following:
1. Unplug all USB peripherals connected on the machine
2. Run Windows Update to get the latest patch and bug fixes (reboot if necessary) and try the USB devices.

If the problem remains, consider going back to Windows 8 by doing a Refresh or Reset to isolate any issues on the OS level.

I know that a similar question has been asked before but, not with the last part of the message, (Device Descriptor Request Failed). I get this, in Device Manager, and I have searched for an answer on the net. Also it is a Code 43. I went through my laptop, with an HP Technician this morning, I might add at a cost of 5p/minute, for 30 odd minutes. He has said that because I had gone over to Windows 8.1 and the recovery discs I made will not load, to put back in Windows 8. I have to send the laptop back for re-installing the OS, because Windows 8.1 do not have the update for my problem. Also the R.H. USB socket has a failure ID:0GAPTK-6T7716-MFPWWK-8D1Q03. I personally think that this is all what the problem is. a duff USB. Is this a cop-out???
My question is; has anyone heard of Windows 8.1 having driver WHQL problems?? Very.

Any/all ideas, appreciated.

ps, I only found out the problem with the usb when I tried to download a Mobi file to a Kindle for my wife. The other usb's work OK.

Answer:Unknown USB Device (Device Descriptor Request Failed)

Is there only one USB port on the right hand side? Sometimes manufacturers connect internal devices via an unused USB port internally. USB ports are usually in groups of two, seeing only one port is usually a sign that the wiring has been redirected internally to something else like a Bluetooth adapter or wifi adapter. It may even be a card reader or touchpad. Is anything like that not working? If it is start looking for a driver for it.

So how do i fix this is there something with my mouse is there something with my software?
Oh yea and on top of that i have 2 more issues that i jut can't solve by myself.

2.) Unknown USB-device(port reset failed)
3.)DVD Drive(optical drive) doesnt show up on the device manager but it sounds like it's working and it opens and closes.
4.)Front ports of my PC doesnt work if i plug an USB in it doesnt do anything (it does work perfectly in the back)

I don't know though if i should make more threads but they somewhat relate to each other,

Hey, I have some errors in device manager like port reset failed and device descriptor request failed.Long striy short: I have already tried all the standard answers several times. I dont know wich device is/was the one who caused the error. It coud be mine (already contected everything I have) or of some other person. My probem is not the "problem"... What really annoys me is windows keeping refreshing the device manager and with that causing my pc to freeze for a second randomly. I have unsinstalled the device, plugged the pc off power for minutes, tried to remove with usbdview and usboblivion and all the stuff with energy options! The thing is that an error loke that seems to not be a big thing, but I cant use my PC anymore. I need windows to stop trying to reset the usb port or whatever it does, just forget about the error/device. Has anyone an idea how to get rid o this? Thank you and hope the answers will help other too!

Can I ask when did this problem start? Had you added a device?

Have you tried resetting your BIOS? (Before you do please ensure you document or know current customizations?)

Have you check manufacture's site for a newer BIOS? Not recommending you update BIOS but it would be nice to know if they have a newer version. Updating BIOS has its own risks which can result in a "Bricked" machine.

I assume this problem happens with all external USB devices removed, correct?

Is it possible to get Hardware id's from device manager for problematic devices?

Let me start out by saying that I've googled the shit out of this problem, tried several things, and nothing worked.

I have a D-Link USB 2.0 Hub that I got about a week ago. It's been working awesome up until recently. It's a plug and play device, however windows is failing to recognize it, and thus making everything I have plugged into it unusable.

In the 'Device Status' box it says:

Code:
Windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems.
(Code 43)A request for the USB device descriptor failed.

And in the 'Events' tab, there's a few listed, I'm not sure if they are much help:

Hello
I have a USB device (X.Vision PCDVB-3100)
It work properly in Windows 8 and Windows 8.1
But now in Windows 10 when I connect it to USB port, The Windows give me this error:

?Windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems. (Code 43)
A request for the USB device descriptor failed.?

How I can solve this problem?

Answer:A request for the USB device descriptor failed

Probably the USB port cannot provide enough power to the device, so Windows cannot properly identify it. Try connecting it to a different USB port. If problem persist, the only solution is to use a powered USB hub that will provide the power necessary. Also some devices have problem working on a USB 3.0 port (blue), try using a USB 2.0 port (black).

Hi all,

(Unknown USB Device - A request for the USB device descriptor failed)

Massive problem I have encountered since buying a new laptop pre-installed with Windows 8.1

I have 3 external USB storage devices - 1x Corsair "Slider" 64GB, 1x HiTachi Touro 750GB, & 1x HiTachi 4TB external drive. ALL drives are coming up with the same error message and are not being recognized by Windows 8.1

The strange thing is, I also have another 2 PCs - one with Win7 and one with WinXP and the drives work without issue.

I've spent the last 4 days scouring the net looking for answers, and thus I am here hoping someone can shed some light as to why ALL of these drives do not work on this new laptop pre-installed with Windows 8.1?

Even stranger still is I have other thumb drives, a cheap Transcend 32GB (which is USB3.0) and a few cheapo (USB2.0) drives of various sizes by Strontium, Lexar and so on which work perfectly.

But the one that has me o.O is an expensive 64GB thumb drive called the Mach Extreme which also works perfectly with this laptop???

So all up 2x HiTachi drives & 1x Corsair thumb drive are not working and its driving me bonkers!

If no drives worked at all, then I would be seeking the manufacturer for maybe a faulty component. Dodgy USB ports, or maybe a motherboard problem. But having a handfull of drives, of various makes, sizes and both USB3.0 - 2.0 fully working leaves me scratching the old chrome dome as to what could be the issue

Would really real... Read more

Answer:A request for the USB device descriptor failed. (error43)

You can mark this thread as SOLVED!

Okay here's the fix that worked for me, maybe it will work for you.

I've always updated drivers, WinXP, Win7 and so on, the same way - download the driver, go into device manager and select browse, then point windows to the downloaded driver to update the necessary files. Its always worked that way for me for as long as I can remember.

Not so it appears with windows 8 - for some strang reason.

For me I had to update to the latest Intel Chipset Drivers, but instead of the tried and trusted methos above, you simply hit the setup.exe and let windows 8 do its thing. Believe it or not, but this fixed the issue.

Yes I had already updatd to the latest Intel Chipset Drivers using the device manager method, and yes windows "did" update ...someting??? But the USB devices were still showing the Unknown USB Device error. But using the setup.exe fixed the everything and all my USB devices are now working perfectly with Windows 8.

How, why, who knows, but I hope this works for others with the same problem.

Was trying to plug my Toshiba 1tb External hard drive in to retrieve music off it and it wont recognize the drive. Device manager revealed the yellow triangle and error message. It works on my wifes hp streambook and also my kids stream book both are running wondows 10 like mine. I have tried nearly 10 different suggestions from google searches and have gotten nowhere. The only thing I couldnt try was turning off the usb in the power options, for some reason mine doesnt display that option. My notebook only has 1 usb port so I cant try a different port. Any suggestions or fixes?

Hi all,

I have a problem with my Lenovo B50-70 Laptop. It has 2x USB 3.0 and 1x USB 2.0 ports.

It started when I removed a USB mouse from the USB 2.0 port. I had a message flash up saying
Windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems. (Code 43)

A request for the USB device descriptor failed.
If I go to Device Manager and 'Uninstall' the device, then plug the mouse back in and 'Scan for Hardware changes' it works. However whenever I unplug it I get the same error. I've tried doing them same thing and plugin in other devices, (my phone, a memory stick) and The error comes back. If nothing is in the port and I scan for hardware changes I get that message again.

Any ideas how to fix? It is almost as if the machine doesn't detect the mouse is unplugged and thinks it's gone wrong. The USB 3 ports are fine.

I've tried...
Checking for Driver/bios updates.
Cleaning the port.
Uninstalling all USB Drivers and reinstalling

Hello Ladies & Gents.

I would like to ask for your assistance on this slightly annoying problem.

I have 1 pair of Razer Megalodon USB headphones, on the start up of Windows 8.1 these headphones are not detected correctly. The only proof I have of this is in the device manager displays:

Universal Serial Bus Controllers -
Unknown USB Device (Device Descriptor Request Failed).

(Please see attached screenshots)

Once the device is disconnected and reconnected device manager then displays:

Universal Serial Bus Controllers -
USB Composite Device

The device then shows in "Audio inputs and outputs"

Cheers,

Mr Collective

Answer:Razer Megalodon - (Device Descriptor Request Failed)

Razer is well known for BSOD drivers and problems, otherwise. (And taking very old drivers, changing nothing at all, giving it a new date and then claiming "Compatible!" with new OS.)

Perhaps give a shot with uninstalling their software, rebooting, the re-installing.

Make sure using the latest.

When all is said and done, you might just have to live with it.

Can't hurt to make sure chipset drivers are up to date. If Intel chipset, search their driver site for "Inf"

Hi All,

Thought i would make this thread as i see others with the same issue. I have just built a new PC and i get the following error randomly.

"The last usb device you connected to this computer malfunctioned, and Windows does not recognize it."

The issue with this is i don't actually connect anything to the PC. the message just appears randomly then fixes it self on reboot only to happen again later.

I have reinstalled USB Drivers and the issue persists.
I only have two devices connected to the PC:
Razer Death Adder Mouse
Logitech K350 Wireless Keyboard.

Is this a USB adapter? Does the error go away if the adapter is removed? With the yellow flag in Device Manager, right click it and Uninstall it. Remove the USB Device from the computer end and Restart your computer. When the computer comes back up, plug the USB device into different USB port of the computer.

I'm attempting to help my daughter fix her USB issue, so the information I have about the computer is minimal at this point. The computer is and HP Pavilion a6710t Desktop PC. It has a Foxconn motherboard. Here's the story, She's been using this computer for a couple of years, was running Window Vista. One day her wireless mouse and keyboard quit working. I gave her a usb mouse to try to no avail. The message when we plug any USB device that previously worked on her computer is 'Unknown sub device, device descriptor request failed'. After doing much research online and attempting a multitude of fixes from online sources I had the bright idea (being the computer genius that I am (NOT!)) to update her Operating system to either Windows 7 or Windows 8. She chose Windows 8. Here I'm thinking if I wipe the hard drive, do a clean install of Windows 8, the problem would be fixed. Boy was I wrong, still no USB ports are working. Makes no sense to me unless it's the hardware itself. Any suggestions? Ideas?

Answer:USB ports inoperable, error says, device descriptor request failed.

Based on what you have tried, it does seem to be a hardware error. One more thing to try is check the CMOS battery's voltage. It's usually a CR2032 rated at 3 Volt. Carefully remove it after unplugging the PC from the socket outlet, and check the voltage with a digital multimeter.

I have two issues, which I think are related. In the Device Manager, it shows under USB Controllers "Unknown device". "Windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems. (Code 43)"

I tried updating the driver, but the driver was correct.

I tried disabling the device.

I uninstalled the device. Windows reinstalled it at next boot, but the problem reappeared.

There is no Imaging Devices in the Device Manager.

At the same time, my webcam failed to open. Message "Webcamera initialization failed."

I downloaded the correct webcam program from Toshiba, installed it, but same result.

This all started when I uninstalled and reinstalled Skype. I have tried uninstalling it again, but still no webcam.

The webcam is enabled in the BIOS.

I really do not want to reinstall Windows.

All help appreciated.

This has become a great annoyance to me.

Whenever I have my keyboard and mouse plugged into my computer (the mouse uses a USB port on the KB (it's a G-15)) I keep getting messages of "USB Device Not Recognized", however, the mouse and keyboard work perfectly fine. It's not really a problem, it's not restricting me, but it is extremely annoying.

Any solution to this problem?

Note: I recently re-installed Windows (literally about an hour ago), it did not do this beforehand.
Note 2: I have tried to restart the computer.

Answer:"USB Device Not Recognized" but the device is working fine.

A search turned up some easy things.

Does this happen coming out of sleep or hibernate?
Does this happen in another USB port
I think you said you rebooted - no change. If you haven't rebooted, give that a go.

Last one: right click on the device in Device Manager and select "Scan for update". Could be the USB, mouse or kb - scan all asscociated devices

That's all I have,

Bill

We used to have "stereo mix" option that enabled streaming audio recording without having to have the audio playing through the speakers. How do I do that now? What replaces that capability? Who makes my sound card? Why is that not readily available somewhere in Dell land? I can't believe forum searching found pretty much nothing on this.

Answer:Latitude E6530 Windows 10 no "stereo mix" option for sound input device, only "high definition audio device" with Microsoft driver and unknown manufacturer.

aj_chicagoWho makes my sound card?
Hello. The audio chip manufacturer was IDT.
aj_chicagoWhat replaces that capability?
IDT doesn't have "stereo mix", so I'm not sure how you used to have it on the E6530. IDT has an equivalent capability that it calls Rec.Playback. That can be found in the list of recording devices, after the IDT driver is installed.
aj_chicagoHow do I do that now?
Dell doesn't support audio on an E6530 that has had Win10 installed. The IDT company went out of the consumer audio business long before there was a Win10 OS, so there is no Win10 IDT driver for that model. Your computer is currently using the Windows native audio driver, which, as you say, does not support a stereo mix kind of feature.
You should be able to install the IDT driver for Win7 by installing with compatibility mode.
1. Download and save the audio driver to your desktop or any convenient location on the hard drive. [There are two "formats" on the driver's page. Scroll down to the 2nd one, named "Hard Drive" format, and download that one, not the 1st one named "Windows Update Package".]2. Double click on the new folder to extract (unzip) the driver files.3. The extractor wizard will create a new folder for the driver files. It will be at "c:\dell\drivers\xxxxxx". Write down the exact location that the wizard creates. 4. If the driver begins to install automatically, halt (cancel) the installation.5. Browse to the dri... Read more

That dxdiag "no sound card" message is misleading as I've found it says that if no driver OR sound card. I think you're missing the right driver

Also, it would seem from your post you have High Definition (HD) audio. Which means you'll need to find the right High Definition audio driver. (AC97 pre-dates HD audio so the Realtek AC97 couldn't be right)

Try starting on the HP support website HERE and enter your model number or they have a button where they'll try to identify your product and drivers for your model. They should list an HD audio driver there

Mods, if you feel that this thread is more of a "Windows" issue, please feel free to move this thread.

Here last year I did my second build because I was having "boot" issues. Wasn't certain what exactly the problem was at the time. But something some how screwed up the boot sequence in my system, and where everything was pretty much "outdated." I just went ahead and did another build.

Though, since then I've been pondering around with the thought of using a SATA to IDE adapter so that I can retrieve what ever salvageable data I can from one of the two HDD's that was in my last build. So I finally broke down and ordered a couple different one's earlier this week.

Unfortunately, I've been running in to some problem(s) when I try to launch with the IDE in place.

Upon initial launching, the boot sequence seem to take some time longer than it normally does with out the IDE HDD in place. Though after a 15-20sec lapse I'll get an error screen displaying an windows error code of "0xc000000e" with a prompt message below stating "The boot selection failed because a required device is inaccessible"

I searched all over online to see what that error code represents, only to get "pages after pages" of sites with each site telling me something different.

I have no intentions of using this as a third HDD in my system. I just want to retrieve select data from it.

Hi, I'm trying to reinstall my sister's scanner driver because XP has decided that it's not there any more. This happens occasionally and usually reinstalling the driver fixes it (I think that's what I did last time), but this time i just can't get it to work.

If i unplug the USB cable then plug it in again, it comes up with a message saying that the device has malfunctioned and it doesn't recognize it. I have the driver CD but windows always manages to install it as "Unknown device" before i can tell it to search the CD. I've tried telling it to reinstall the driver from the CD but it says that there are "no better matches for this device". I've also tried uninstalling the program form the CD and reinstalling it then restarting the pc but that didn't help either. I tried plugging it into another USB port (as suggested by Windows Help Center) but that still didn't work.

It's not often that something like this gets me in a circle and scratching my head but I'm really starting to run out of ideas.

Any help would be very appreciated, i just want to get this thing running again

My HDD crashed and I didn't back up my drivers, I got all of them from the lenovo support site for my Lenovo Y570 and still remains "Base System Device" drivers. I've tried the Lenovo Update scan thing and searching google for people with similar problems, I came up with nothing.

So I ask here, what are these drivers? Where can I find them?

Pic below is device manager; in properties it states location as PCI Bus 10 (I have no idea what this means or if its relevant)

I can't notice anything wrong with my Laptop as it is now, everything works (I haven't tried gaming, except I can no longer scroll with my touchpad, the sides used to allow me to but now the whole area of the pad is touch to click)

Thanks for your help in advance would be a huge help if you could help me work this out.

Yesterday, I used my USB just fine, but I accidentally bumped it against my chair's arm, which was moving. Two hours later, I plugged it on my computer, and the light didn't turn on. I assumed it was dead, but then I opened the flashdrive to clean the mother board a little bit, and then plugged it back on, and the light still didn't show up. But when I pushed the flashdrive a little to the back, the light showed up and the data was on. I copied some of the data onto a CD, but most of it is still on the flashdrive. The copying was going fine for a few minutes, but then when I moved the flashdrive a little in the USB socket because of natural movements of the hand, the light on the flashdrive went away, and so I pushed the flashdrive downward a little more. I thought I might have loosened a few circuits. The flashdrive was lighting but the error message "USB malfunctioned, not recognized" came up and also the message "device driver not installed properly". Any suggestions on how to fix this flashdrive?

I have tried both of these devices on other computers and they work just fine but when I try with me Dell XPS 15 9560 I get the "USB device not recognized" error, I beleive it is error 43. I plugged the usb-c adapter into a Lenovo Yoga 910 and it work immediately without installing any drivers so I don't think it is a driver issue. I have found forums with people updating all of the usb ports in device manager and disable power saving mode and I've tried them all, nothing works. The only common "fix" that I haven't been able to try is changing the wifi power output from 100% to 75% and I haven't done this because my machine has the Killer wifi card which doesn't have this option in device manager. Help please.

Answer:Dell XPS 15 9560 Getting error with display dongles: "USB Device not recognized or Malfunctioned"

What OS are you running? And are you getting this error with both of the adapters or just one? If you get it with both, do you get the error if you try them separately rather than simultaneously? Also, if you're not aware, USB-C to HDMI/VGA adapters work completely differently from USB 3.0 display adapters. USB-C ports have a real DisplayPort output wired to them, which means using display adapters with that port is just the same as if you were connecting the display via a native DisplayPort/HDMI/VGA connector on the laptop itself, although those combo display/USB devices will limit the maximum bandwidth available and therefore the maximum resolution you can run compared to USB-C adapters that only give you HDMI/DisplayPort. By comparison, USB 3.0 adapters do not work this way because those ports (USB-A) do not have a real video output wired to them. Instead, they use what's called a DisplayLink chip, which involves a driver (automatically installed via Windows Update starting with Windows 10 Anniversary Update) that basically uses your CPU and GPU to compress display data for prior to sending it as USB data to that adapter, and then the adapter decompresses it and sends it to the display. This has a few ramifications. First, displays connected through these adapters will sometimes feel sluggish and/or reveal compression artifacts when large portions of the display area are changing at the same time, even when you have U... I have a Win7 64bit Dell laptop on a domain and the notify bubble "USB device not recognized..." is aggravatingly annoyingly every second popping up. A friend had plugged in their usb phone but the issue starting a few days afterwards. The laptop is on a dock 90% of the time and I only have 2 monitors, a wired keyboard and a non receiver mouse plugged it.
1. Opening up device manager, the window jumps up and down. 2. When I can finally click on the root hub with the yellow exclamation to delete it, the issue will go away,...until a reboot. 3. chkdsk and scannow didn't resolve it either or turn up idea errors.
4. Turned off, unplugged, and removed the battery for a minute or two. put it back together and still no luck.

Post the exact model computer. One thing to try is System Restore to go back to a restore point on the day before your friend plugged in a phone.

I don't know why it's doing this. It happens sometimes when I restart the computer. The transmitter is plugged into the extender base, which is just a USB extension cable. The extension cable is plugged into a PCI card that adds 4 USB ports to the computer. I also have my wireless gaming reciever for using my wireless xbox 360 controller to play PC games and my cell phone charger and my capture card plugged into this card and they all work great. I've tried reseating the connection by unplugging and plugging the transmitter from the extender and that's not working. I tred all the other USB ports on my computer (I have 12) and none of them are working with it. Most times I can simply unplug and replug a few times and it'll catch on, but I'd like to know if anyone else has this headset if you've had this problem?

I have Windows Vista Ultimate 64 bit, by the way.

12 USB ports? You may need to upgrade your computers power supply. Is the USB extender externally powered?

Hey all,

I have a 256MB and a 1 GB (New) Lexar Jump Drive Secure. When I plug them into my desktop computer on the front ports, I get the "USB Device not recognized" message. and goes on to say that the device has malfunctioned and Windows does not recognize it.

If I plug them into the rear ports, no problem.

When I plug either one of these into my Laptop, no problems, it recognizes both. Both systems use Windows XP Home, and both are updated with all the latest updates and service packs.

I have a 3rd Lexar (128MB) that I can use on any computer with no problem.

What gives?

Thanks,

Vince

Answer:"USB Device not recognized" with 2 different Lexar Jump Drives

I've moved you to the hardware forum for support on this. Are there any other devices plugged into the front ports?

You might check the Device Manager and under "System Devices" look at the USB Controllers. Check to see if they are working properly and look to see how much "bandwidth" is being consumed on both.

Hey all,

Recently, Ive been getting a reoccuring, non-stop popup "USB Device Not Recognized" message. It may have popped up a couple times in the past after a fresh boot or waking up from sleep, but the message went away once I closed it.
This message keeps reappearing on the task bar. The only way for avoid it is click the pop up and it brings up the "USB Device Not Recognized" window, showing USB Root Hub and its 6 ports, one of which is labeled "Unknown Device" (see attachment). Once I close this window, the taskbar popup reappears.

I only have my usb keyboard, mouse, wacom tablet and a 'thumbdrive'-usb wifi card that are using the usb ports, all of which appear to be working fine. The tablet, mouse and wifi have drivers installed and dont appear to be misbehaving. Im running Windows XP 64-bit (X64).

This is more of an annoying message since my devices are working. Is there a way to fix this or to turn off the popup message?

Thanks in advance!

I've had this external hard drive for quite some time. It's a 230GiB Western Digital "Dual Option Combo External Drive". http://support.wdc.com/product/kb.asp?groupid=406&lang=en

The problem it has is that any computer I hook it to won't recognize it as a USB device. Whenever I hook it up it adds the hard drive but when the time comes to eject it there's no remove icon available in the system tray nor is there an Eject command when I right click it on the explorer because Windows does not see it as a removable device but as a "permanent" device.

I don't know how long ago this happened or even if it was like this from the start. It's bugging me a lot because I don't know if I'm harming it by forcefully disconnecting the USB every time I stop using it. Here's an image of something odd about it:

Does anybody know what's wrong with it?

I have an old Compaq PC that's running Windows XP SP3 and for quite some time has not had problems with networking or using this wireless adapter. But not long ago the network interface disappeared and the adapter was now being shown in the Device Manager as an unknown device. If you pulled the adapter out and reinserted it you'd get a message on screen that would say something to that effect.

There are two computers next to each other that both use this exact same adapter and I've tried swapping them between the PCs to see if one adapter worked better than another. They both work in one PC and neither work in the PC I'm having trouble with. Any ideas on how I might be able to fix this?

I have had my Wacom Create drawing tablet for a few years now, and it was working fine for a while. One day I plugged it in, and the blue light never came on and in the corner of the computer screen, it said "USB device not recognized: The last USB device you connected to this computer malfunctioned, and Windows does not recognize it."

I have unplugged it and plugged it back in multiple times, uninstalled and reinstalled the Wacom drivers, restarted the computer, gone into the Device Manager, disabling and enabling the "unknown" device. I've even tried a different computer. I really can't figure it out. I'm hoping that the tablet isn't gone for good.

Is it fixable or is the tablet dead? I have tried it on both Windows 10 and Windows 8. Neither work.

I have a "Flash Voyager" (http://www.corsairmemory.com/products/voyager/default.aspx) Corsair USB Flash Drive and suddenly one day, it stopped working.

Now, whenever I plug it into any USB port, Windows pops up a "USB Device Not Recognized" error. I have tried it with several Windows XP computers and it is the same.

The device does not show up as a drive in My Computer or Windows Explorer. When I open up Device Manager and look under "USB Controllers", there's just a item called "Unknown Device."

I have years of important information stored on that flash drive, and I do not have backups of much of it. I am mostly concerned about being able to copy the data off the drive...is there any way it can be done in this situation?

Hi,

A couple of days ago, each and every of my USB ports fried at the same time or something. I went and plugged some USB device (Playstation controller to USB converter, if you must know), and suddenly my keyboard and mouse stopped working, with the message "USB Device Not Recognized, it malfunctions, click here to solve problem which is ironic because we're talking about your mouse here".

At the moment, I simply figured my wireless mouse/keyboard combo had died on me, and so I went a bought a cheap wired USB mouse to at least be able to move around on the computer. However, that didn't work either, in any of the ports (2 on the front, 6 on the back), and every time I plugged anything it would not be recognized and thesame error message would pop up. In fact, once, rebooting without any USB device plugged still displayed my desktop with the error bubble poping up every 8 seconds or so. Devices plugged in will still light up, which means the USB mouse can still serve as a wired flashlight of some sort, and my mp3 player can still charge its battery, but it can't interract with the computer.

Now, I did a bit of searching and would try a couple of things, but the problem is my USB port drivers or bios or letter assignments or whatever are actually problem number 2. At the moment, I have no way to interract with my computer in any manner. There isn't any port for standard mouses ou keyboards at the back of my computer (you know, those round color... Read more

OK,OK The web is full of this problem and I have run across it before. Here's the scenario....
The USB ports on this Toshiba Sattelite A135-S2256 are not reading perfectly good USB Input devices. No devices work in the 4 ports located on the laptop. There are no yellow ? in the Device Manager either. There are no hidden devices to rename.
Attempted fixes:
1. Redirecting the driver paths to several diffferent driver folders
2. MOBO flash to current ver. and updating all drivers for this laptop
3. Correcting mising .inf files
4. Uninstalling root hub devices, which do reinstall upon restart
5. Depleting MOBO residual electricity
6. Cleaning and checking all pins on all ports
7. Praying to St. Anthony to find and install the drivers (x50) and checking in my lost sock drawer to see if the drivers are there......P.S. I'm not even Catholic
Are there any fixes for this, short of zeroing the drive and reinstalling Vista and drivers? This laptop never had a restore disc or restore point made when new so these options are pretty much out. I have listed the IRQ below

I have a Fujitsu P1510D, XP Pro w/ SP2. Just received my NU USB2.0 DVD drive. When I first plugged it in it wasn't recognized, a little fiddling and it was... and Nero started to install. I stopped the installation and ran AVG to check for viruses. AVG ran fine, but when it stopped, seems the drive went *poof*. Nero's install screen was still up, but it couldn't find anything.

I've tried plugging it into both of the laptop's USB ports and into the hub, not recognized. Reboots with and without it plugged in. Removed "unknown device" in Dev Manager, plugged back in. Nothing. It doesn't show up as a drive, and each time I plug it back in it says the drive "malfunctioned". Tried going into Administrative Tools/Drive Management, but only the hd is there..

Tried System Restore. Interestingly, in going through the prompts, it said that no changes would be made to Device D:, though that drive letter wasn't there.

I've tried it on another laptop too, it says installing, ready to use, malfunctioning. Does this mean it's completely hosed and I should send it back, or is there something else I can try before I box it back up?

Ok, this is the first time I have needed help and couldn't find it posted on the internet so I come to the experts.

I received a scanner for Christmas (HP Scanjet 3970) and its not working with my pc. I get the "USB device not recognized" when I plug it in. I tried everything and finally took it back and got another (Epson Perfection 1670) but I get the same problem! At first I thought it was that the scanner had been dropped but now I know its my hardware or software.

I have a P4S5MG/651+ MoBo and I'm running Windows Xp Home Edition.

I even tried removing the XP SP1 and reinstalling XP all together. I have a Digital Camera and a Webcam that both work on the USB ports and I tried every port on the tower before giving up.

Any ideas or questions will be appreciated!

I have a Yiynova tablet monitor and its been working fine for about a month. I recently tried to download the beta version of a NVIDIA GeForce update (bad idea) and had to reinstall a previous version. After that, things started to go south for my tablet.

I uninstalled and reinstalled the tablet driver, and tried to plug it in a different USB port and it came up with the same message.

Is there a step that I'm missing?

Hi I've got a DVR that I have (up until now) been able to access my recordings on using my PC (windows 7). The PC and the DVR are in the same room, along with the router. All I needed to do was enter the IP address of the DVR in to firefox/chrome etc and I had access to all my recordings. I could do this either via wi-fi or ethernet cable.

Now however for no reason, whenever I enter the IP address I get the error "connection failed". Why is this happening? So far I've tried the following with no success;
- Cleared the IP address from cookies and cache
- Created a new user on my Windows 7 PC and tried to access the IP address.
- Reset the DVR so it forgets the wi-fi settings and re-connected it to the wifi/ ethernet.
- Reset the DVR and router so that the end digit on the IP address changes.
- Used different browsers.
- Checked network and shared devices in control panel to see if the DVR is visible. It is there but I dont know which of the options (if any) I should troubleshoot. When I right click I get a MAC address, unique identifier and IP address. Theres nothing in there that can be changed.

I'm running out of solutions and I dont understand why suddenly the network/ DVR will not connect. Any ideas?

Greetings all.

I monitor installation of apps with Systrace and Comodo Programs Manager. Using the latter, which includes the ability to uninstall Drivers, I've encountered a disastrous problem:
Specs:
Dell Inspiron 1525 laptop
Intel 2 x 2.0GHz, 8GB DDR2, 320GB 7200 HDD (20+GB free)
Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit, fully patched, updated and maintained
Norton IS 2012, Malwarebytes, Mamutu, Windows Firewall (regularly run Kaspersky, ESET, etc., scanners offline. No malware.)
Have 350+ third-party apps installed for reference, testing and troubleshooting others' computers.

Problem: Using Comodo Programs Manager (CPM) I uninstalled Windows Mobile 2003 Device Driver which required a reboot to complete and, now, I cannot boot the system. The Windows logon screen appears, a message displays, saying CPM's "Force delete jobs completing...". The system freezes there with a black screen, the mouse cursor responds but there is no other activity. Even the LED showing HDD activity ceases.

Attempted solutions:
-- Safe Mode(s), Last Known Good Config, etc., Startup Repair, (System Restore has been disabled.) To make matters worse, I carelessly began to run Windws 7 installation repair as though it was XP. Before I caught the mistake and cancelled, 7 had already begun to copy files. Now I have the SystemRoot as "windows\windows".

I am unable to install iTunes on Windows 7 on a Dell Optiplex 780. It always errors out as "apple mobile device service failed to start" and then installation always rolls back. One result told me to remove all apple software on my computer, but I do not have any apple software installed, it always fails to install. a few websites mentioned to make sure that my iPod is not plugged into the computer when installing, I unplugged it, it made no difference. and there were websites telling me to just manually start the service, but every time I try I get a "unable to start service. the service did not respond to the start or control request in a timely fashion" which pops up immediately. I also tried doing an SFC /scannow but it says "there are no integrity violations"

I am at a loss here. I even tried various alternatives to iTunes which all give errors of their own

Any ideas?

It did get a little better by running these

Disk Check < if necessary include the /f and /r in the command line as per Option2 by better I mean it got less frequent.

To be honest I am not an Apple fan and it seems to me it clutters everything up

Just installed Avira antivirus and rebooted to complete the installation. I am getting the error "Boot selection failed because a required device is inaccessible" whenever I attempt to boot. I have tried using the Windows 7 disc to repair but it does not work as it runs for a few seconds then instructs me to reboot.

The hard drive was initially not appearing but luckily I can now access all my files from this OS, however I would really like to gain access to my main OS again. I have also reset the CMOS but it hasn't changed anything.

Any help would be very much appreciated. Thank you. Sorry if I posted this in the wrong section.

Hi. This my first time posting here, but I've visited these forums on several occasions in the past to solve various problems, so hopefully someone will be able to help with mine.

My parents and I moved into a new house on the 25th of April, and I got my desktop computer hooked up a few days later. When I started it up, it (re)installed a few drivers (the connected devices were my mouse, keyboard and HDTV that I also use as a monitor), and I was prompted to restart the computer to finish installing them. Because our internet connection wasn't set up until the 10th of May, I only used my desktop a few minutes a week to transfer pictures I'd saved on my laptop while visiting relatives. Ever since I hooked my desktop up in the new house, I've noticed that the "device failed to connect" sound randomly plays after automatically logging into Windows. I usually only need to start my computer up once a day, sometimes restarting to finish installing a program or update. The problem usually occurs once every four or five start-ups, and the sound only plays once each time.

When I started using my computer, I had some trouble double-clicking with my left mouse button for a few days or so, but it works fine now. I've tested the connection of all my devices, and they appear to be as tight as they can be. The Device Manager doesn't show any problems, except when I set it to show hidden devices, but I think that's because the mouse and keyboard I'm currently using aren't the same... Read more

Answer:"Device failed to connect" sound plays randomly

Hello ThisIsMadness91. Welcome to the forum.

There is not enough to go on there. There are some good clues though.
That "USBSTOR#DISK...." smells like a USB connected disk drive. Is there one connected? Was there one ever connected (at the old house)?

What would help is a complete description of the old and new setup - right down to the length of the cables used to connect devices to the PC. We are looking for any differences here.

You say you are using a new keyboard and mouse. It would be good to know what the old and new devices are (brand & model #). Were any of these installed with drivers? (keyboard driver or mouse driver).

Hello,
I've been experiencing multiple bluescreens daily and what's odd about them is they occur randomly while using many programs; however, I have noticed that they occur more frequently directly after opening a new tab, loading a new site or running a game (StarCraft II).
Looking through Event Viewer. I see a list of warnings and errors immediately prior to the BSOD. In chronological order:

9:07:18 PM CRITICAL- "The system has rebooted without cleanly shutting down first. This error could be caused if the system stopped responding, crashed, or lost power unexpectedly."

9:07:28 PM WARNING- "The driver \Driver\WUDFRd failed to load for the device USB\VID_0483&PID_2016\5&249af6f9&0&2."

9:07:42 PM ERROR- "The previous system shutdown at 9:05:49 PM on ‎7/‎13/‎2011 was unexpected."

9:07:44 PM ERROR- "The computer has rebooted from a bugcheck. The bugcheck was: 0x0000000a (0x0000099e0000007e, 0x0000000000000002, 0x0000000000000001, 0xfffff80002a92885). A dump was saved in: C:\Windows\MEMORY.DMP. Report Id: 071311-32869-01."

9:07:47 PM ERROR- "Audit events have been dropped by the transport. 0"

I also get this warning quite often:
"The maximum file size for session "ReadyBoot" has been reached. As a result, events might be lost (not logged) to file "C:\Windows\Prefetch\ReadyBoot\ReadyBoot.etl". The maximum files size is currently set to 20971520 ... Read more

Hello,

Last night i was trying to update my AMD SATA AHCI Controller driver, but i shouldn't do while being sleepy....

My hand moved before my brain realised...I uninstalled the device BUT i also checked the option for deleting the drivers.

Now, i get the error while booting :

Quote:
0xc000000e

The boot selection failed because a required device is inaccessible

What i realise is that windows are trying to find the device needed to boot ( stored on boot info) , but device is not there.

Ι already searched the forum for similar problems and already tried to do a Startup Repair from Windows Installation Disc repair menu (3 consequent times as written), with no result.

No restore points either.

Is there any way to manually fix this or my only path is a repair install ? All my data are safely backed-up.

Thank you in advance for your help.
ΕDIT : I don't know if this is the proper subforum for the above problem, i posted here because it was caused by a driver uninstall. If mods/admins think it does not fit in this subforum please tell me.

Answer:Error 0xc000000e "Boot Selection failed- Required device Inaccessible"

Well, i found the solution after some 50-60 Google results reading...

Solution was found in this page.

Analytically :

I loaded Recovery Console from my Windows 7 Installation Disk.

Had the AMD SATA Driver folder copied to a cd from my second pc. Driver directory was "W764A"

Ran diskpart and list volume to check the cd's volume letter

Ran the following command ( D: is CD ROM, D:\W764A is Driver Directory, C: is Windows Installation ) :

Code:
D:\dism /Image:C:\ /Add-Driver /Driver:D:\W764A\ /Recurse
I typed exit to exit Recovery Console, rebooted and voila....Windows Started normally...

Glad it was solved....

Hi there! I hope you can help since I am clueless about this! I keep getting that error message "failed to initialize video device" when I try to play Mech3- pirates moon. I have no idea when the problem began or what caused it (ie deleted file or something). I updated my ATI Radeon 7200 last night to the latest version. I used to be able to play these games just fine.
I have win98 version , pentium III450 mhz, 385 mg, 4.30 gb free space. my cdrw is a philips 800 series. the weird thing about that is I can't find a single file for it! it seems to work fine thought since I uninstalled adaptec cd creator and re-installed it last night using it. I did print out a "system summary" and although I don't understand most of it, it does say that "could not find d3dhalf.dll" and "could not get information for "d3ddim.dll!" I hope all this helps you figure out what's goin on. thanx for any help you can provide.

Hi,
Whenever the desktop appears I get the sound "dududu" with no popup.
Please help.

Answer:"Device Failed to Connect" sound notification

You mean you get the "device failed to connect" sound everytime you open the Desktop?

Right-click the Desktop, Personalize and go to Sounds, and set the Sound Scheme to Windows Default which is at the bottom of the drop down list and click, OK. Re-start the computer and see if the sound persists.

You may also type msconfig on the Start Menu. Go to Startup and check if any malicious programs are checked in there that might be causing this sound..

Hello, my xps 8500 has been showing "no boot device available" on start up. I understand this to be hard drive failiar but am hoping for a temp quick fix just to access and transfer files to a memory stick.
When enitialy starting up, raid volumes status is displayed as "disabled" and bootable No
But when pressing F1 at the "no boot device available" screen and it restartes, the raid volumes status reads "normal" but bootable remains No.
Running windows 8 and have cheacked that boot mode is UEFI and secure boot is disabled and such. Have also run the diagnostics using f12 and got error code 2000-0142.
Would appreciate any help, what I could try thanks.
Also if I were to buy a new hard drive, how would I install windows again, as I never received a copy on disk from dell.

Answer:"No boot device available" failed hard drive help

Buy and install a new hard drive and download the Create Media Tool to make your own windows installation disk.

Hi, I have been going crazy, Windows 10 does not recognize my DS3 controller as a Playstation 3 controller, it shows "Unknown USB Device (Device Descriptor Request Failed)" every time I plugg it in, so I can't install any of the softwares that make PS3 controllers work like x360 like MotionInJoy or SCPToolkit because these software can't see my controller in order to apply the custom drivers on, has anyone run into this?
