Why could not the web URL "https://onedrive.live.com/RecoveryKey" be accessed to get my recovery key for BitLocker today?

Question: Why could not the web URL "https://onedrive.live.com/RecoveryKey" be accessed to get my recovery key for BitLocker today?

My Windows 8.1 Surface Pro got updates applied today. After that, I could not logon successfully since I received a blue windows asking for BitLocker recovery key. I followed the FAQ which requested me to access the web URL "https://onedrive.live.com/RecoveryKey".
But I don't know why this web URL could not be accessed at all at the moment.
So what can I do next? and is there any other place where I can get my recovery key for BitLocker?
SOS!!! Really appreciate your attention and any suggestions.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

How can I lock the "Now" or "TODAY" or "Date" FUNCTIONs IN Excel 2003?

This seems like it would be a simple solution as everybody that deals with Excel, at some point, would be interested in not having the dates you have entered with either function "Today" or "Now" NOT automatically change to the current date and time when you reload the workbook. But if it's a simple fix, I sure haven't been able to figure it out yet. Help!!!!!!!!!!! Go ahead and show me and make me feel like an idiot...

From some days I am experiencing this strange problem in Firefox.
i am unable to open some sites with the "http://" address in Firefox
it don't shows any error message or anything just a blank page.
but if i edit there url to "https://" sites open normally.

this is really annoying. please someone suggest a solution.

Answer:Some sites won't open with "http" but with "https"

Do you have the https everywhere add-on installed in Firefox? If so, disable and/or remove it and restart the browser to see if it fixes the problem.

Welcome to Major Geeks!

I'm going to post two sets of instructions below. Each will be enclosed in separate Quote boxes. Make sure to complete the first one 100% before moving on to the second one.

STEP 1: Complete this procedure completely including attaching the requested log before doing the second procedure.

Download SmitfraudFix (by S!Ri) to your Desktop.

Extract all the files to your Destop. A folder named SmitfraudFix will be created on your Desktop.

Open the SmitfraudFix folder and double-click smitfraudfix.cmd
Select option #1 - Search by typing 1 and press Enter
This program will scan large amounts of files on your computer for known patterns so please be patient while it works. When it is done, the results of the scan will be displayed and it will create a log named rapport.txt in the root of your drive, eg: Local Disk C: or partition where your operating system is installed. Please attach that log in your next reply.

Note:process.exe ( which is used my SmitFraudFIx ) is detected by some antivirus programs (AntiVir, Dr.Web, Kaspersky) as a "RiskTool"; it is not a virus, but a program used to stop system processes. Antivirus programs cannot distinguish between "good" and "malicious" use of such programs, therefore they may alert the user. The below is a link to what process.exe is.

Ok where do I begin?! I have been dealing with viruses, spyware/malware for the past week. It all started with Norton advising me that I had been infected with Trojan. Vundo and Trojan.Zonebac. After that I started receiving many different pop ups warning me about critical system alerts. I also had an annoying yellow triangle at the bottom of my screen warning me about different trojans and worms. More evil friends included 2 new icons that had made their home on my desktop one named "Live Safety Center" and the other "Online Security Guide", also installed was a new toolbar named "Security Toolbar 7.1". I have scanned my computer with many different programs and have somehow finally managed to get rid of the pop ups and toolbar, although I know I'm probably still infected somewhere. I'm sorry this is so long but, I wanted to explain EVERYTHING! I'm running Windows XP SP2, and have followed all steps to post. I downloaded DSS, but after many attempts to run, it just wouldn't let me. I do have a fresh hijackthis log and my Panda report, I hope this is good enough.
Many thanks in advance to whomever helps me, I am desperate!

I'm running windows 7 on a 1 year old PC, and use windows live mail as my mail program of choice. oddly enough, WLM sometimes eats my emails, only showing a portion of them. this is NOT the issue where images are hidden: more often than not, it's the text or body of the email. and they can be from any number of sources; personal emails from regular contacts, or even the generic group messages, like from twitter and facebook.

that's how they look, whether i view them inside the program or double click on them to have their own window. however, the emails come through fine via webmail or my phone, just not in WLM, where the text is hidden.

any ideas...?

if it helps trigger any ideas, this seems to happen to specific addresses (like, all twitter emails, or all emails from my friend karl) instead of just every email.

Answer:windows live mail "eats" my emails (not the "hidden images" issue)

I did follow MicroBell's 5 Step process and the Panda scan said that no virus could be found. However, my Avast anti-virus warned me 5-6 times about files while I was running the Panda virus scanning. One of them was named "win.exe" and was in C:\temp\ but has now been deleted. Every time Avast issued a virus alert I chose the option to delete the file in question.

Then I was trying to use the Recovery Key to unlock, but always say:  the key does not match the drive. -- I am pertty sure this key is for this drive.
Is there anything else I can try? Or any more information needed to help me get my data back?

New to the forum, hoping to find answers or new ideas to try...
My Win7 OS computer has problems seeing my WD network drives most of the time. I'll say up front that my Macbook, my Windows XP laptops, all other computers of various types in my house see and access these drives just fine, but the one with Windows 7 Pro will not. It occasionally will see and access them for short periods of random time though, which really has me baffled. These drives are right on the same network switch as the Win7 computer.

The scenario goes like this:click on the drive name to view contents... 20 or so seconds pass, popup says "Windows cannot access \\drive-name".
I try the second NAS drive, same thing.
I try the "diagnose" feature to no avail. I've even explored some of the "explore additional options" suggestions to no avail.
I can ping the IP addresses of both these drives all day long and they respond without fail.
Weird thing is that very occasionally I will click the drive and the file folders show up and I can transfer files, or whatever I want, for a short random period of time.
I swear, this problem is driving me crazy! I've been resorting to using a flash drive to transfer files on this computer's HD to the WD network drives via an XP OS computer, or via the Macbook. I like Windows 7 other than this very frustrating problem.
Soooo... any ideas or suggestions? Anyone else have this issue and figured it out??
TIA for any and all comment... Read more

After a catastrophic computer failure, I managed to recover almost everything. However upon booting up I got the message "BOOTMGR is missing". I used the original Windows installation disk to do Startup Repair, which recovered BOOTMGR. However now every time I boot up I get a message from Windows Boot Manager asking me to choose between "Windows 7...(recovered)" and "Microsoft WIndows Recovery Console". How can I get the computer to boot straight into Windows 7?

I know this was from an old thread (nearly two years, actually), but I wanted to make sure it was still more readily accessible. I searched for nine hours today and kept running against the same set of "fixes" which didn't fix anything.

I have Vista Home (64bit) and somehow (I truly have *no* idea), Windows Installer disappeared. I don't mean turned off or otherwise inaccessible. It wasn't there. I went back and forth to services, etc. searched (online and on the computer) and got NOWHERE - until I found this thread:

Repair Windows Installer Service in Vista (All Versions)

It was simple but I never even thought about it. I followed the steps with one exception: because my msiserver service file was completely absent from the damaged registry running "sfc/scannow" didn't do anything and I had to open the services file and import the changes from there rather than double clicking the msiserver.reg file. I am very, very grateful to have had this information and I hope by posting my experience from today here, it will help someone else who's ready to drop kick their computer...

Thanks,

vp

Hi all,

I think this is quite a common problem, from what google searches have returned, but i can't quite find the exact problem as this:

I sent my friend an e-mail for a school project, but he had forgotten to tell me (he told me the next day) that he can't access his e-mail.

He didn't give much info, only that:
When his e-mail is accessed (AOL), after about 10-15 seconds, a blue screen appears stating "Physical memory Dump complete"

Any way this can be fixed without too much hassle from his end (he's not much good with comps)?

TIA,

Nappymonster

Answer:Blue screen of Death: "Physical Memory Dump Complete" When e-mail is accessed

Hi

You'll need access to your friends computer or to help him some way or another. A BSOD can be basically anything wrong, many times it is corrupt RAM or a process driver. Ask your friend to ZIP (using WinZIP) the minidumps found in C:\WINDOWS\Minidump\ and attach that back with your next post. That's the best way to analyze.

Today, I got a 1TB Samsung 850 EVO SSD. Intending to replace my hard drive, I connected it with an optical drive adapter caddy and cloned my current HDD (500 GB, 202 GB used) with Easeus Todo Backup Free. I used Partition Master to create an NTFS partition from the remaining unallocated space (about 450 GB) on the SSD, then merged the two to create a partition with about 900 GB of total space. Assuming that the SSD would be bootable, I swapped the HDD and the SSD, with the SSD in the normal hard disk slot and the old hard drive in the caddy. I shut down the computer, checked the boot order to make sure that everything looked right, and booted up, only to find that it had booted with the old HDD. The SSD didn't show up in Explorer. I shut down and tried detaching and re-attaching the SSD. This time, it seemed to fit a little better; when I checked the boot order, there was a new device, a Samsung SSD, on the menu. I moved it to position 2, just below Windows Boot Manager (where the old HDD had always been), and booted. It booted with my old hard drive again. This time, the SSD did show up in Explorer. I tried shutting down again and removed the caddy with my old hard drive. When I tried to boot, I got "A required device isn't connected or can't be accessed" error message. I finally gave up and put the old hard drive and optical drive back in, which I am using now with no problems. Do I need to do something to transfer the operating system onto the new SSD? Hi,

While trying to switch to a different service provider I became aware that the "Internet Options" (icon/file) accessed through the "Tools" or the "Control Panel" has disappeared as well as the options in that selection. There is now an icon that has no name and does seem to go anywhere (its a picture of a world with a notepad and 2 check marks overlapping the globe... if this helps). I would like to know if there is a way to restore that back to my system somehow. I have tried to do a system restore but it won't do that either, it says I cannot restore to the dates I've chosen and I've tried many. I don't want to do a restore to the original settings if I can avoid it as I don't want to lose everything. Since I haven't tried that, I don't know if it will even let me. Can you help?

I did check my recycle bin and did not see anything there that looks like "internet options"

Thanks for your help

Question, which to be honest I could probably answer for myself with a little experimenting. But I'm hoping to get some insights from others faced with a similar problem, as to how they've addressed the problem... and if they may have a better solution than I've come up with.

My goal is to provide perhaps 2 or 3 generations of WindowsImageBackup (i.e. "system image") on one of my secondary local hard drive partition, which would be available in case of a system disaster to restore from. Since Win7 itself does not allow more than one per partition to exist (because of the high-level folder names), each time you run a new "system image" backup the old one on that partition gets deleted.

Obviously, I could rotate the target locations for the backups to three different partitions, but I don't have that luxury. I don't have enough free space that I am willing to dedicate to about a 46GB backup folder on other than one partition on one machine, or two partitions on a second machine (for "system image" on that second Win7 system).

So, on the one partition that I DO have some room on, I've simply renamed the current generation's high-level WindowsImageBackup folder to have a date-suffix on it. Then I run a new "system image" backup, creating a new folder with the standard Win7 name.

So far, so good... and I now actually have TWO "system image" backups on the one partition, physically anyway.

But if I go to restore, will both ... Read more

Answer:Can multiple "image backups" on one drive be accessed?

All 3rd party apps. will let you store as many images you like, wherever you like.

Your renaming trick is a workaround if you must rely on Win sys img. You will need to rename the one you want to restore back to just plain WindowsImageBackup.

A few thousand of my pictures could not be accessed anymore after I had to re-install my whole computer after a crash. They all got the error message: "Access is Denied".
Also copying and deleting is impossible.
With the great free tool UNLOCKER I could still delete them.

Then, searching for an explanation, I found forum posts trying to explain that the error message had to do with older Windows versions, different folder systems, links instead of real files. I didnt understand at all, but wanted to follow up the advice 'take ownership an change permissions'. So I went to the Reccle Bin and restored the unaccessible files.
Surprise!
After restoring their behavior was completely normal.

Can other people let me know if the following steps work well for them too? Or if they have a different/better solution?
1. Install UNLOCKER
2. Rightclick on the unaccessible files (group selection possible) and select DELETE.
3. Go to the recycle bin, select the same files, right click and select RESTORE.
4. Files should be accessible now.

Hello, everyone. First time posting here.

I've looked all over this forum, and have also Googled everywhere on the Net in vain, in trying to find a particular type of program that I want to run under Win XP on my PC.

I'm looking for any PC program out there (freeware is great, but even trial version or full purchase is okay), that could show a user all the "most frequently accessed" or opened *files* on a PC, i.e. most frequently accessed .DOC or .RTF files in the "My Documents" folder, or most frequently accessed .JPG or .MP3 files on an external hard drive (or even USB flash drive).

I've already looked at various "keylogging" programs (freeware ones), but all the ones I installed and tried out don't give me the option of sorting files by "most frequently accessed", or how many times those files have been accessed in a certain period of time (at most, they just give me a list of the times when a particular *program* was used, rather than *file*).

Can anyone help me out here? Anyone know of any PC programs that you can run under Win XP, that can sort and display the most frequently accessed files on a PC (and/or particular folder directory), and also show how frequently those files have been accessed?

(I'm a self-confessed noob, so please forgive me in advance if this subject has been discussed in this forum before; I've already tried looking for it in here, with no success. But if this subject matte... Read more

Hi and welcome to TSG. Perhaps 'Actual Doc' might provide some of what you are looking for? There's a free version with less options than the paid version. If you use the link below, there a comparison chart for free v paid and some good screenshots indicating the info that can be viewed etc.

On my network I have a desktop and a laptop computer. In the navigation pane of file explorer my desktop computer shows not only my c drive and the users folder but also a folder showing my first name and a folder showing my full name. If I use my laptop to navigate via either of the two latter folders to the documents on my desktop computer the documents open as "read only". If I navigate to my desktop via the c drive or users folder the documents open normally. Can anyone suggest why that may be, please?

In a network, it usually means either some application or someone else is accessing the same document, so you're allowed only read-only privileges. I'm assuming you don't think this is the case.

In Windows XP, fully updated, I have several folders full of mp3's and want to see the bit rate and duration. I right click on a column heading and select "Bit rate". I then click on "More..." so I can get to "Duration", and I select that one too.

But all the figures in the "Duration" column appear to be in "hours" and "minutes", so I see "00:04" or "00:03", but what I want is "minutes" and "seconds".

Any thoughts as to how to change this?

Hello everybody!

I am not sure if this is the right subforum, but I didn't see where else to post it, so... Since I upgraded to Windows 8 Pro, I keep getting the error "The Windows Installer Service could not be accessed" when trying to install programs from an msi package. Unfortunately, Google is very unhelpful there - all known instances of this problem seem to have to do with windows 7 or XP, and most seem to be fixed by downloading and reinstalling the Windows Installer 4.5 redistributable, which doesn't apply to Windows 8 - the compatibility list on the microsoft download page ends at Windows Vista, and a search for "installer service" at the microsoft download center doesn't turn up anything when I limit the results to those applying to Windows 8. So I am kind of lost...

Screenshot of the error:
Any ideas? Am I the only one with the problem?

Thanks a lot in advance for any advice!

Hi, I'm trying to install an installshield script (the file is called ISScript.exe) in XP. When I try to install it, I get an error message that says "The windows installer service could not be accessed. You may be running in safe mode or Windows Installer may not be correctly installed."

I'm not running in safe mode. I went to Microsoft's site and followed all of the instructions on their page for this particular error message (the url is support.microsoft.com/kb/315346). This included re-registering the windows installer and reinstalling the windows installer. The version I installed was Windows Installer 3.1 v2, which is what XP users are told to install on this page. After following all of those instructions, I still got the same error.

When I called microsoft technical support they told me call the original equipment manufacturer, and when I told them they told me to call microsoft.

Can anyone here help me?

What is the difference between the two? What do both mean exactly in relation to my internet browsing? Under what circumstances do both occur for say an image file?

Answer:What do "Last Accessed" and "Last Checked" mean?

"Last Accessed" means exactly that, the last time you accessed or viewed that page.

"Last Checked" is the date and time that page was checked by the web-browser to see if it has changed since the last time it was viewed by you (this happens automatically at preset intervals while that page is open in your browser, even if it's open in a background tab).

I was messing with my ASUS N10j and I tried to install Windows Vista Ultimate 32 bit on it.

Installation went fine, but then when it wanted to boot up for the first time, it gave me a window that said "Can not open recovery.dat" and a huge red ERROR message appeared in the middle of the screen.

From googling, these guys (http://www.overclock.net/windows/435626-error-recovery-dat.html) believe its because of a hidden recovery partition. Well, how do I delete that partition if I don't have access to Windows?

The laptop also doesn't have a DVD-drive, so the solution has to be via USB.

I have no clue what to do. Help!

EDIT: Ugh... I guess this is more software related... Sorry.

Answer:Red "ERROR" message because "Can not open file C:Recovery.dat"

Greetings, RommelTJ...

Couple of things you might consider trying:

* Boot to a Linux USB drive, and format your hard drive from that environment - tips on how to create a Mint 7 (Gloria) bootable flash drive can be found here...

* Get your hands on a USB DVD drive, and use it to boot to your Windows disk to delete/recreate any partitions...

Quick question: how are you trying to install Vista without an optical drive?

I am running Windows XP SP3, fully updated, on an Acer lap top PC.

I have several folders full of .mp3's and want to see the bit rate and duration. To do this I right click on a column heading and select "Bit rate". I then click on "More..." so I can get to "Duration", and I select that one too.

The two new columns appear, but the format of the "Duration" column appears to be "hours:minutes", so I see "00:04" or "00:03" for most .mp3's, when what I want to see is 'hours:minutes:seconds", e.g. "00:03:45".

This also happens for video files (.avi files), e.g. all my episodes of "Heroes" (sad, I know) have a duration of "00:42" instead of "00:42:xx".

Here are two pictures showing the problem with the .mp3's. The first is of Explorer showing the Duration as "Hours:Minutes":

The second picture is of the properties window of the first .mp3 in the list above:

I copied some .mp3 files to another (old) PC on my home network, and it displayed the duration field correctly:

Also, the properties window correctly shows the duration also:

I developed a little mapping plattform showing aerial images. This application loads image tiles from another url path on the same domain. All comunication is secure via HTTPS / SSL.

E.g.:
Application: https://somehostname/schraegluftbilder/schraegluftbilder.html
Image tiles: https://somehostname/schraegluftbilder_2gj5kk91p0/Aktuell/[filename].jpg
(Sorry, i can't give you the actual url, because this is only accesible in our company intranet)
Internet Explorer 11 has Problems doing this, no image tile can be loaded, F12 DevTools say that the HTTPS GET Request is status "aborted". If i switch the debug mode (compability) from "Edge" to "10" or "9" everthing
works fine.
Another thing we testet: If i copy the url from which the image is supposed to be loaded and paste this in a new browser tab, the image appears like it should.

Is there any new security policy which forbids ie11 to load files from another subdirectory (in our case from
schraegluftbilder_2gj5kk91p0 to schraegluftbilder)?

Before stating my problems, I have to tell my location first " I think" I am in Myanmar (very restricted internet policy oriented country)    First, To use the internet, we didn't need to say "which proxy". we can use just "auto proxy". Now the ISP create a new proxy"203.81.166.2:8080". The proxy is more faster than the old "auto proxy" but the problem is that it doesn't support "https". We have to use "https" because, for example, using gmail is access denied. But we can overcome it by using "https://mail.google.com". That is fine in "auto proxy" but  when a new proxy is used, "https" can't use but http work fine. I think that is their new "restricted policy" . So how can I bypass it with new proxy.   Thanks

Has anyone ever heard of receiving the dreaded "Missing operating system" error after enabling BitLocker? Any ideas how to repair or work around this error?

The Backstory:

I have a Bitlocker-encrypted (TPM + pin) spinning 160 GB hard drive running Windows 7 SP1. Newly purchased, there is a 240 GB SSD drive sitting next to it, and my plan is to copy my whole partition from the 160 GB drive to the 240 GB drive and then enjoy a faster computer.

First step was to fully decrypt BitLocker (took about 6 hours). Then, with the 240 GB SSD attached to my laptop with a USB adapter, I created a 240 GB partition, quick-formatted to NTFS, but did not assign any drive letter.

Next step was to boot the latest version of CloneZilla, and I did a partition-to-partition from the spinning disk to the SSD. Note that my original spinning drive did have a 300 MB partition for bootlocker - I ignored this partition and cloned only the Windows 7 partition. My reasoning was that the 300 MB Bitlocker partition may have drive-specific information that wouldn't work on the new SSD.

So with my partition cloning complete (about 1 hour), I swap the physical drives. My spinning 160 GB disk is removed and placed on the table, and my new SSD is inserted and screwed into the laptop. I restart - and boot directly into a Windows 7 install disk. From that disk's recovery console, I run the automatic recovery option, which "fixes" a corrupt boot record.

With that completed, I reboo... Read more

Answer:"Missing operating system" immediately after attempting to enable Bitlocker

I notice that a folder named "Email Attachments" appears by itself in my OneDrive. The folder is empty. Deleting this folder makes it to reappear by itself later. This behavior started relatively recently. But since I use my OneDrive on multiple Windows 10 computers as well as on two Android devices, it is hard to figure out who's to blame here (if that's something on my side and not OneDrive itself).

There are some Microsoft links on the Net that say that this folder is created when I manually choose to save attachments to OneDrive in the online Outlook.com email client. I do use my old Hotmail address as my OneDrive profile address, but I don't visit Outlook.com and don't save any attachments there.

BTW, my OneDrive is a regular OneDrive account (used with built-in into Windows 10 clients), not OneDrive for Business or anything like that.

I don't need this "Email Attachments" folder and I don't want it to appear in my OneDrive. Is there any way to stop it from appearing? Or at least to figure out what triggers its creation?

Answer:"Email Attachments" folder appears in my OneDrive. Why?

I think you will find this folder is automatically created when you have both OneDrive and Outlook. It is to allow the save to and copy from OneDrive feature to work for email attachments. The feature seems to be part of the web browser settings and will have been created if you log into Outlook via your browser. Go into Options and you will see settings for Attachment Options. You will see that mine is linked.

There may be a way to prevent the folder reappearing if you choose to always attach copies of your attachments rather than OneDrive links.

My computer suddenly developed two problems which popped up at the same time. When I log into Windows 10 and it boots up, I get a popup which says "We couldn't find the location of your OneDrive folder". The pop-up asks me to click to reconfigure OneDrive. That wouldn't be a problem - except for the fact that the mouse pointer has disappeared.

Multiple reboots have not fixed the problem. I tried rebooting to Safe Mode, which caused the pop-up to go away, but the mouse cursor still is not there. I also accessed the mouse pointer settings menu via keyboard shortcuts, but nothing seems amiss there.

Any suggestions?

Answer:"We couldn't find the location of your OneDrive folder"

Have you tried another mouse? The OneDrive, probably activated during an update.

Hello there

So I'm experiencing strange BitLocker behaviour. I have this PC at work. Clean Windows 8 x64 installation, 3 HDD (AHCI), no SSD.

After I set up BitLocker to encrypt "C" partition, it gave me pop-up window, that I should restart PC to test the BitLocker loader. So I clicked Yes. And after few seconds I got this:

Mind, I'm still ABLE TO type password (i can't see sh** though), after I hit enter Windows IS booting, but it's really weird to see above picture instead of:

(at my home PC).

My GFX is OK, I tested it with games, benchmarks etc.

Any thoughts people?

Kind Regards

I adjusted Group Policy so additional authentication (PIN) would be required.
I thought I would need to uncheck the first option (Allow BL w/o TPM) because I want to require TPM.

When I rebooted (and after enabling TPM - F10), I attempted to activate Bitlocker (via the Control Panel) and this error message displayed:

Hi,
I just had the same issue today, so here is what doesn't work with you :
If you have a motherboard and a BIOS compatible with a TPM, you can uncheck the first option "Allow Bitlocker without a compatible TPM".
Then, Microsoft has made a mistake with the terms that are being used (in my point of view) : in fact, you have to understand you cannot "require" an option if you "allow" some others...
So you have 2 choices :
 - either you "allow" each option so you can choose which one when you set Bitlocker on,
 - or you can "require" an option and disable all the others, so you will not be able to make a choice when you set bitlocker on.
I hope that is clear enough...

Hi guys. First post here so take it easy on me, haha.

I installed Windows 7 Enterprise 64-bit edition on my new Lenovo laptop. I captured an image of my machine and deployed the image to several others. Now, we want to start using Bitlocker. However, there is no "system reserved" partition, you know, the 100MB one that Windows automatically creates during install. Turns out that Bitlocker NEEDS this partition.

I can manually create this partition, but I don't think it's useable by Bitlocker. Regardless, I tested this. I created the partition (200mb after shrinking primary partition), rebooted, and ran the manage-bde -status command. There is another drive listed but it's unusable.

Here is the output of that command:

I have installed Outlook (which looks more like OE than Live mail, perhaps) and started using it. I am fairly happy. The only thing that bugs me is that it starts up with two windows and two tabs, one of which is the calendar functionality. I can close that down again but it is a pain. Is there a way of executing Outlook so that only Inbox appears? I want to disable the calendar completely and never see it again.

I use an online, cloud computing, calendar since I have many computers and waiting for calendars to synchronise is something I can do without.

When I search images on the live search website, I could hover the mouse over a picture and it would jump into a small window with a white border- it would show information about the image- file size, name, dimensions.  This worked a few days ago.  Now when I hover the mouse, the popup type window doesn't appear- all I get is a small tag that appears and lists the file name.  Another nearby computer works fine- the window appears as I remember.  Both computers are running XP SP2.   Browser is Internet explorer 6, sp2.  I tried system restore to a date before the problem this week, but it didn't help.  Also deleted all cookies and temp internet files folder.  Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

I foolishly "upgraded" my desktop to 8.1 when it came out, and I discovered I was no longer able to remote in through skydrive. "not available on windows 8.1 machines" it says.
Then MS changed it to "ONEdrive", and rolled this out. Oh boy, look at all the emails I got promoting how awesome it is. Ok let's see if it actually works.
-desktop client still broken
-cannot remotely grab files
-and now, new feature added, browser edition of onedrive doesn't even show a new file when you upload sometimes
The world mocks Microsoft, and this is why. I use Outlook email, a windows phone, an xbox 360, and a windows 8.1 PC. And not one of these things can talk to each other or communicate natively. I don't get it. Why is onedrive broken with 8.1?? This is arguably one of the fundamental positives of using the ecosystem. I've now gone back to just emailing myself things. After all that's all the cloud is. I've been using "the cloud" since '98.
When I go to the onedrive page, it says "download the onedrive software thing", so I download it. But then I see a message saying "this won't work on 8.1 machines because onedrive is natively supported!".
...except that it's not.
Why even offer these services if none of them ever work?
(to hopefully add some weight to my post, I've been using Hotmail since 1998, windows phone since 2011, windows PC's since ever, and I'm an xbox user. I see the downsides of this ecosystem of theirs to be enough to push me to other services. I will be switching to t... Read more

I have tried setting up  "print background colors and images" in print settings. But it didn't solve the issue. This is not happening in IE8.  IE8 prints all images without even checking the print setting. IE9 does not seem to grab the image

I am trying to get Bitlocker working on the C: drive of a Dell Venue 11 (5130) 32bit, running Windows 8.1Update Enterprise. I click Turn on BitLocker and the system checks the perrequisites and is happy. Then I type in a PIN (6 numbers) and confirm it and
hit Set PIN. At this point it fails with a message saying "The system cannot find the file specified".
I am an Admin on the machine. TPM is working fine. GPO is not setting either BitLocker or TPM to store on the AD DS. Secure Boot is turned on in BIOS. Plus I've tried the reverse of all of these.

You could go to Control Panel > BitLocker. You should see all drives there.

While attempting to do an upgrade from Vista Home Premium 64 bit to Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit I get the following message; "Setup was unable to determine if BitLocker Drive Encryption is in use." The only option then is to cancel the upgrade. I've tried installing 3 times now with the same results.

To my knowledge BitLocker isn't even installed on my pc. I have never even heard of it until this evening Should I try for a clean install? I have also had my CD/DVD drive vanish from My Computer after rebooting.

Thanks for any help.

Answer:"Setup was unable to determine...BitLocker"

Well, I know the Vista Home Premium version does not contain Bit Locker, are you encrypting the drives any other way?

Just asking, but are you compressing the drive?
