I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

So I turn my computer off one day only to find it wont start the next day. I open the case up and see the led is on. I flip the switch on the power supply off then on and quickly press the power button. My computer starts but the following time I shut down the computer it again wont start and now the led is blinking. I've never had any issues like this before, any help would be appreciated.

I don't routinely use many usb devices, only my mouse and keyboard and every now and then my ipod. I figure the issue is likely either the power supply or the motherboard. The ps is almost two years old while the motherboard is only about three months old.

Answer:Computer wont start, power supply wont start, blinking led

It sounds to me like your PSU is the problem, get a hold of another and plug it to your computer and see if that will make it start, if it doesn't it might be BOTH your motherboard and PSU. A bad PSU will burn a motherboard.

No matter what option i pick in the safe mode list, the computer will not start. when i choose any of the safe modes, (safe mode, safe mode with networking etc) the computer displays a list of random commands (i dont understand any of it) and then restarts. If I try to Start Windows Normally, or use last settings that worked, it seems to start loading, and then restarts.

Any ideas?

guys,

my computer wont boot and still it wont display.
i already changed a video card and stil it wont.
it have no beep at all and it will not display.

what should i do?

Answer:guys my computer wont start and wont have a display

does it beep any. if not this will indicate more major problems. (unless you dont have beep speaker installed) a mother board is programed with a set of beep to play if there is a problem like such as three beeps if the ram is not working, 1 long beep if the vid card is not working etc etc. I DO NOT KNOW WHAT YOUR BEEPs WILL BE. if you are not getting these then you need to find out why. see if you have a speaker inside your case. if you do and all of your fans spin but still no action from you pc then you may have a larger problem such as mother board or processor.

Nothing will load on my Compaq Presario 700 notebook. It wont even turn on in safe mode.
When I go to turn it on it sounds like the hard drive attempts to spin. I don't hear the fans, but all the lights come on. The battery is fairly new and everything is plugged in properly.
All this began when I was running Macromedia Dreamweaver MX and it locked up forcing me to shut down.
Any ideas?

I had this computer for almost 2 month now but recently seems to be acting a bit strange.

My specs are:

ASUS P5N-E SLI LGA 775 NVIDIA nForce 650i SLI ATX Intel Motherboard

EVGA 320-P2-N811-AR GeForce 8800GTS 320MB 320-bit GDDR3

Intel Core 2 Duo E6850 Conroe 3.0GHz 4M shared L2 Cache LGA 775

G.SKILL 2GB 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800

Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 (Perpendicular Recording) ST3500630AS 500GB 7200 RPM 16MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s

The problem with the computer started when i tried to restart it and it simply wouldnt boot everything seemed to work the fans were spinning in every component yet it wouldnt boot as in the beep sound when a computer starts didnt sound off. One part thats intresting is that the DVD-R drive light would keep blinking green like it is reading something and make sounds. After a while leaving it for about 15 minutes or so on the computer suddenly worked and I realized this when the mobo beeped signaling its coming to life.

This was 2 days ago now yesterday late at night i was running windows when it suddenyl got really slow and froze so i restarted it manually and bam the computer wont turn on. I took it down started looking at all the components making sure everything was alright and in place I even disconnected the DVD drive completely to see if it is the cause of the problem but to now avail it just wont turn on normally. So i left it on went to my PSP hijacked someones wireless and went online to check if this problem is comm... Read more

Answer:Computer just wont work(Wont start up)

Ok my computer worked and when it booted it listed these following problems:

1-Display switch is set incorrectly

2-CMOS checksum error

3-Override enabled

4-Keyboard error or no keyboard

5- this last one it gave it to me couple of times then stopped : Warning CPU

has changed!

After listing all this it says press F1 to continue or DEL to enter setup. When i enter setup since i flashed the mobo the date was reset when i try correct the date the area where it shows which day it is flickers quickly between tues and wed and when i try to input 2007 it goes to 2056. I removed every hardware piece by piece and rebuilt the whole bloody thing I cant tell whats wrong is it my CPU, Mobo, Harddrive or powersupply all these parts are brand new and been working fine for sometime now.

For the love of god someone out there send some help as this is getting hopeless. Sometimes it turns on if i leave it on for long time on time turned right away which was after i rebuilt the pc.

I posted this in the hardware section because i know its gotta be hardware related. On one of my older computers, which is a HP(bought in 2002), wont start at all. Not even the Compaq logo will display, which means BIOS wont start either. so i cant boot at all, or operate the computer in anyway. This happened right after i installed a gig of RAM, i was upgrading from 512 mb to 1 gig, they were 2 different cards, 512 each, and both had 189 pins. I installed them, booted up and nothing.

I really dint think there is a solution for this though, because after that, i put the 512 RAM back in and it still didnt work. Im thinking the motherboard was fried, by static electricity maybe. if thats the case than ill just get a new computer. which leads me to my next question.
How do i access my Harddrive? I have a lot of valuable data on there and an expensive music collection, as well as a bounch of backed up movies.
Any help is really appreciated guys, thanks in advance.

Well, today when I woke up I tried starting my computer, but it started making beeping noises and the light on the expansion bay started flashing. I looked up the problem, and found it it's beep code. The beeps my computer is making is as follows:
short, short, long
short, short, long
short, short, long
short, short, long
short, short, long

There is a one second interval in between each set. I went to the HP site and found this page: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?lc=en&dlc=en&cc=us&docname=bph07107#N1010 . However, I'm not sure if it applies to my BIOS or not. I have a HP Pavilion Media Center m8120n TV PC, 3GB RAM, Nvidia GeForce 7350 LE Graphics Card, and about 500GB of HDD space, and an Intel Core 2 Quad Processor Q6600.

I tried looking for the specific BIOS on my computer, but couldn't find it. So I can only assume what they say is my problem is what it actually is. Which is that my computer was "Unable to initialize video or video card required but not installed". This computer is about 4 years old, and I have never changed the card, and have not updated the drivers for several months. How can I fix this problem? I read on other forums where people where having problems with their RAM they had to try putting it into a different slot, however, I'm not sure if my computer has multiple PCI-E slots to do this. Furthermore, If I do have to do something similar, I have no means of grounding myself. Would it be okay if ... Read more

Answer:Computer makes beeping noises on start, computer wont run

Do you have any display at all?

If not, then it's probably certain that the beep code is correct; that your video chip needs butter (because it's toast).

Does it have a video card installed? If so, pull it, and see if you can get display through the native video output. If it is without a video card, go to a local shop, and see if they have on old one, compatible with your system, that you can use to test with. If it tests good, you probably need to buy a video card...

If your computer is disconnected, you can probably get away without any grounding strap. Nothing in life is guaranteed tho'.

I have a HP computer that wont start up. I get to the blue startup screen that says hp pavilion, then that goes away (like normal) but then the computer restarts. I hit F8 when it started (to try to start in safe mode) and got the windows advanced options screen. I then selected safe mod, then i selected Windows xp home edition then hit enter. The computer restarted. So from this I believe it restarts when it tries to load windows. Ive also tried to go to the option in windows advanced options that says "restore the computer to an earlier time" (or something like that) but it restarts. Any sugestions? I really dont want to use my D: partition (total system restore) so I'm leaving that as a last resort. Any help would be greatly apreciated.

Answer:computer wont start

Could be a faulty power supply, or a bad motherboard. Try switching power supplies first, and if that doesn't work, then see if you can try a different motherboard.

Please be more specific. What type of Motherboard is it? What type of ram does it support. How many beeps do you get? Is the memory the right speed (IE: PC 100,133,1600,2100,2700,3200)? Is it less or equal to the Maximum size per bank?

hi, my name is jim, I am new to this.I have several computers, but am not that knowledgable about them. Hear is my problem.  Several weeks ago i went to use a computer and found it turned off.  I usually leave them run.  I went to restart and when I hit the tower start button, the light cam on and the fan ran for about 2-3 seconds.  I keep trying, and finally it rebooted after about 30 tries.  since that time it has shut down again, due to power failure in our area.  It won't reboot.  I took the side off, cleaned everything, banged it, etc.  nothin works. it still attempts to start and then dies.  Any suggestions on what may be the problem. It is a german computer, medion, sold by Aldi.  It was purchased in 2002.Thanks for any suggestions you might give me.  I would like to try to fix it myself or at least get an idea of what is wrong before I take it to someone. Thanks Jim

Answer:computer wont start up

It could be overheating or theres just not enough power to it. Try unplugging all the extra stuff like usb stuff and see if it starts up.

I have a dell latitude d610 and when I start it a message pops up saying I need to uninstall anti-virus and I have the blue screen of death. Any suggestions?

Answer:Please help, my computer wont start

How old is your Dell?

Did you contact Dell Support? (don't forget to have your Service Tag ready)

Did you register your AntiVirus when you got the Dell and keep your subscription up-to-date?

Do you have the recovery CD that came with your Dell?

Do you have a Setup CD for your OS? (WinXP)

IF you have the WinXP Setup CD:

Step-1) Try this:Boot to your WinXP Setup CD
At the 1st window with the Repair option on the bottom Statusbar, do that to open the Repair Console
When you get to the Repair Console's Command Prompt enter CHKDSK C: /R (the R is not a typo)
Let CHKDSK do its thing, then reboot
Also, running CHKDSK from the desktop (via Start menu, Accessories, Command Prompt) by entering CHKDSK C: /F (the F is not a typo), occasionally. This should be part of your general system maintenance routine. Note that this will require a reboot to actually run.

If Step-1 did NOT work...
Step-2 do a Repair Reinstall WinXP...
Do this:Boot to your WinXP Setup CD
At the 1st window with Repair listed in the bottom Statusbar, select to install (skip this Repair)
Setup should see you have Windows already installed and you'll get a window with a 2nd Repair listed in the bottom Statusbar, use this to start a Recovery Reinstall.
A Recovery, aka Repair, Reinstall will reinstall all the original system files but leave your present configuration and applications as is.

Note, you will have to redo ALL Win Updates. Highly suggest you only install 3 to 5 at a time:De-Sel... Read more

So I put in the operating disc and did the start up repair and well its been doing that for hours and I dont know if its actually doing anything. im not sure what I have to do, I recently backed up all my files so If i need to I can reformat it all but i dont even know how to do that.

I'd say stop it

Let the computer cool down (30 mins or more)

Start the Vista setup again
This time remove old partitions
And do a clean install (This part is your choice - but is preferred option)

I was in the middle of playing a game when my computer just shut off. I wasnt doing anything I normally do that should make this happen. I then tried to turn in back on but nothing happened. I felt the power supply and it felt hotter then normal. The only think on my computer that is working is the LED light on my mobo. Nothing at all happens when I push the button to turn the computer on. Does anyone know what is going on? Did I blow the power supply?

Prequal: I had a computer with a 478 Celeron 2.0. It stopped working and I didnt know what the problem was. I put in a different processor (dad's 2.6 Celeron) and it stilll didnt work. So the 2.0 Celeron is still working. I eventually fixed the computer.

The problem: My dad's computer stopped working and I dont know why. The CPU fan wont even spin. I replaced the 2.6 with the 2.0 from above (fan replaced too) and it still doesnt work. I unpluged everything from the mobo including RAM and left only the power supply plugs and the front panel connectors connected. It silll doesn't turn on. I also replaced the PSU, no luck. The HDD LED flickers really fast when the PSU is plugged into the wall socket, so I am pretty sure the PSU is fine. I am assumming from all this that the mobo is the problem.

Would you guys agree?
Is there another thing that my be wrong with it if it's not the mobo?

Answer:Computer wont start up.

yup, the mobo unless your not postive the psu is working...

Answer:My computer wont start

Does it power up at all (ie are there any power lights)
Is there any message on screen (ie cannot find HardDrive)

I would remove all connections internally again
Also you want to remove any plugged in PCI cards
Reconnect all internal connections
Confirm that all connectors are securely connected (this is probably the problem)
Push the power cord in securely
Turn back on

So recently I have been having the problem of my computer randomly not booting. Safe mode always works though, so I have simply been going into safe mode and using system restore (every week, if not more). After I do this it once again boots normally. Sometimes it hangs on the Windows loading screen, but will boot. Today, I just got back after a few day trip, and it wont boot at all. Safe mode still works, as does Safe mode with networking (which is how I'm posting this) but when you boot, it goes through the windows loading screen and turns black. After its been black for a few seconds, it does one of two things, either immediatly restarts itself, or flashes a blue screen with a bunch of numbers on it (as far as I can tell, the screen is up for much less than a second and I can't truly tell anything it says.) So I need this problem resolved ASAP since I do work on this computer, yet have no clue where to start. System restore doesnt do anything as I said, yet Safe mode works absolutely fine. Any suggestions? Help is greatly appreciated.
Edit: Oh by the way, I built this computer myself maybe a year and a half ago. This is the first problem I have had with it, and it seems to be program related and not hardware.

Thanks!

so i bought it back to best buy and they charged me 64 bones for diagnostics.

do you guys know what could be the problem? im hoping that i dont have to replace the motherboad or the processor, bastards are expensive.

Hey guys, I've encountered another problem w/ my computer. Now, when I press the power button, nothing happens, a few minutes before; it would boot but nothing would appear on the screen (I would hear the BEEP boot sound) and then if i moved my mouse, strange things appear and get off of the screen; so I opened the case to check if anything was wrong, but now when i press the power button the CPU fan goes on for 3 seconds then turns off and nothing happens, no boot or anything... could it perhaps be the power supply?

It could certainly be the power supply. See if you can borrow one to check it out.

My sister's computer did this, and it was just a bad power supply.

First of all i would like to thank you for taking the time to read this. I just got done building my new computer the specs are as follows.

motherboard- intel d915gevl

Hi jeffdogg, sorry to hear you are having problems, I hate it when that happens. The first thing I would suspect, is the power supply. If you have an extra power supply, try that. Let us know how it goes.

Edit: jeffdogg, disconnect that power led wire, you don't really need it for now. I hope you are not talking about the square four-connector cable from the power supply? If it is, that you will need, if the MOBO is a P4 ATX MOBO.

Hi, I just built a new computer for my self and it wont start up. I have treid a different cpu, a different video card, a different power supply, different memory, and a differnt hard drive. So i figured it was the motherboard, but the green light is on on the motherboard. I also tried 2 different cases leds, and then i tried to start it up with a screw driver, but nothing.

This is my specs

core 2 duo e6600
Asus p5w deluxe mobo
ati x1900xt
Ozc ddr2 pc800
hitachi 160 gig HD
600 W kingwin psu

I have tried this combo on that mobo

core 2 duo e6300
x1800xt
G-skill ddr2 ram
Seagate 160 gig Hd
500 W Rosewill psu

But nothing works

Answer:New computer wont start

Your going to need an older CPU such as P4, PD. You have to pop on of those in the board and flash BIOS. This will update the board allowing you to use your new core2 duo.
Lucky.....

Also you may be able to send your mobo back to the Asus and have them flash it for you. You may have to make a small payment.

Just need some help and advice to anyone that may know what my problem is.

It started a while ago when my Graphics card used to "oxodise" when ever i moved my computer (to put a ipod cable in the usb port as an example) causing my screen not to pick up any signal from my Graphics card and I would have to rub the graphics card with a rubber this would usualy fix the problem.

well yesterday the same problem occured so I opened the box and took out the Graphics card rubbed it with the rubber and slotted it back in. I now try to turn on my computer and not only does the screen still not pick up any signals it is now beeping it starts with 1short beep then 1 long beep, reocurring. ive made sure that the graphics card was insterted properly.

if anyone could help I would very much appreciate it.

Ps sorry for any spelling mistakes using the smallest laptop knowen to man and pretty hard to type on it lol.

Answer:Computer wont start up

My first thought would be to try another video card.

Hello,

I have just bought a brand New 200 Dollar computer from Micro Center.
I've only had it for a week. I did not download ANY torrents, music or nothing...

When I turned it on this morning, I've experienced a continuous restart.

It takes me to windows start up options menu.

The options I receive are..

Start windows normally
Start windows in safe mode
Start windows in safe mode Networking Enabled
Start windows in safe mode command prompt

last known good configuration.

I tried all 5 of em. They did not do anything for me..
What should I do? Am I screwd out of 200 dollars? Or can I fix this??

Thanks for the help!

Josh

Answer:Help! Computer wont start

There are others here that may be able to help with your self repair questions. But to answer your question of weather your out 200 dollars is no , you can contact http://www.microcenter.com/customer_support/returns.html and ask about a replacement , a fix , or your money back.

Hi,
I have had a strange problem lately as if i plug off my pc it wont start again unless if i leave it plugged in for a few hours but last night i changed the casing and it just wont wakeup.
There is a green light on the motherboard which keeps blinking and i have to wait untill its not blinking anymore. I have no idea if it is my Asus P5ad2e premium motherboard or my Bzerk 500 watts power supply which is doing these tricks.
PS: The green light is still ticking.

Answer:Computer wont start.

You made sure that you put the motherboard on top of the brass spacers right?

Hi -

You need to boot up the system with your HP Vista recovery DVD. If you did not burn one, you can obtain replacements from HP for about $30 -

hi all. recently i have encountered problems with my computer. Sometimes when i boot it up, it shows the windows xp loading screen, but then the screen goes black, my harddrive seems to keep spinning and it makes a clicking sound, nothing else happens. The only way I can boot my computer is if i go to the selection "Last good configuration", but even when i do, the clicking happens every 2-3 boots. One time, however, when i selected "Last good configuration" I got the BSOD "Bad_pool_Header". I did some research and discovered it means some drivers are not up-to-date. It also explained that it could be fixed by disabling the indexing service. The problem is I already have indexing disabled, and i believe my drivers are up-to-date, but ill check.

My specs are:
P4 2.0 Ghz
Windows XP Home
512 RAM
Radeon 9800 pro
Emachines Manufacturer

ps. the only other changes i can think of that ive done are tweaks from http://mywebpages.comcast.net/SupportCD/OptimizeXP.html

any help would be very appreciated!

thx

I first posted this on saturday evening but i have had some developments since then. The problem is my computer wont start. I press the power button everything lights up as it should for but only for about 1 second and then everything stops.Someone suggested the CPU could be over heating but i find that hard to believe if the computer is only on for 1 second. I phoned the technical support line this morning and the guy seemed to think it was the power supply that could be the problem, does this sound about right?I thought it was the power supply myself but has anyone any other suggestions. Thanks

Answer:Computer wont start

It may well be the PSU, especially if you have added hardware items such as another hard disk, DV/CD Rom drive or something similar.Suggest you check the wattage of your PSU and get another larger one. Something around 400W +. Even if it turns out not to be the problem, a spare PSU never comes amiss and most are reasonably priced. It might be worthwhile checking that the small front panel connectors are firmly connected and haven't come loose. Does your reset button work?Once you have removed your case side panel, I would also check all electrical connections, including that to your motherboard.Hope this helps.Storic

Answer:computer wont start up

What's the brand/model of the PC. If it's home built, please list all of the hardware. Beep codes usually indicate the reason for the boot failure. The users manual will generally list the information about what the beep codes mean.

its been a while like i said, and i bought a new PSU (600W) and new ram (corsair 2x 2gb) and switched it out today

is this a problem with my graphics card or is something wrong with my mobo/CPU?

Apon powering up, all internal LEDs light, CPU fan spins, a couple of seconds pass, then as the HD spins up, the machine switches itself off.Im guessing towards mis-wiring on my part. One main concern of mine lies with the PSU motherboard power. Its one of the new ATX ones with two plugs, a 20 pin and then a seperate 4 pin. At the moment the 20 pin connects fine, but the 4 pin I had to leave redundant as the plastic moulding is the complete opposite of what's required to fit in the connector (square pins at reversed corners - weird)This is the only obvious flaw which comes to mind - any ideas?

Well if the 4 pin power plug isn't plugged in then it's going nowhere.

Could be a failing power supply or faulty ram.If you have craigslist in your area, check for people that will diagnose your PC for cheap, most don't even charge for that. Unless you are willing to try a different power supply and make a memtest CD to test your ram for consistency.Another thing you might try is removing all the PCI cards and seeing if that helps. If it does, then slowly put them back in...restarting each time till you find the problem.Good LuckSome HELP in posting on Computing.net plus free progs and instructions Cheers

My computer is kind of new its 2 years old and I have put a lot of money into it. It has been working flawlessly until recently one day I went to turn it on and it starts up and goes to a black screen with a blinking white line and stays there and does nothing else. I've tried doing a system recovery, putting a windows 7 disc in their etc. Nothing seems to work. My uncle who is very knowledgeable in computers said everything is running but something has wiped out my operating system. I don't care if I lose everything I just want my computer working again. .

Answer:My computer wont start

Have you checked your BIOS settings to make sure it's loading the proper boot device? (Your HDD, presumably)

Have you ever checked your HDD for errors? Sounds like a corrupted OS, to me. If you have a Windows 7 disk, pop it into the optical drive, and enter your BIOS Boot Menu (On Dell, it's F12 upon start up, Escape on HP Desktops, etc.) Pick your CD/DVD Drive and attempt to re-install Windows. Better yet, you can buy HDD enclosures for pretty cheap and, if you have another machine, you can use it to access your HDD externally. This way you can backup your data, if needed.

Also, you can use tools such as Kaspersky's Recovery Disk or Hiren's Rescue Disk (Mini XP) to get data off of your HDD, given that it works.

Ok, so I was opening up my computer and noticed there was soem dust around my RAM so I took the RAM chip out and cleaned the slot and what not and stuck the chip back in. When I did that and tryed to turn on the computer the fans would go for 1 second then stop. When i take he power cord out of the back of the comp then stick it back in the little green light turns on telling me there is power but once I try to turn the computer on the light will go off and the fans will turn off. Any ideas?

Answer:Computer wont start up!!!

Hmm...

The fans starting up and going off COULD mean you have a short in your motherboard. This happened to me when I was putting together my new motherboard. Check under the motherboard to make sure there is no screw holes or pins from the case that may be shorting out the board.

It could also mean that the RAM hasn't been correctly replaced. Try taking out and re-seating the RAM. Note that it does take a considerable amount of force to insert a stick of RAM, so push until the levers on both sides snap into place.

Is the power light of the case coming on when you plug it in or is it a little green light on the power supply? If it's on the case, it could be a motherboard power issue, maybe a shorting issue. Try re-inserting the RAM because if the RAM isn't properly inserted, the computer can't post and will stop running. If your motherboard has a buzzer thing on it (a little black cylinder with a hole in the middle) it should beep a few times if the RAM isn't properly inserted (some motherboards can't make beeping noises, most can).

I'd first try reinserting the RAM and see if it goes away.

My PC was running fine till yesterday. But when i wke up today and tried to boot it,nothing happenend.as if there is no power at all.none of the fans moved nor any led came to life, nothing at all.then i opened up the cpu box.checked the connections, ram etc. But still nothing moved.it seemed to me that problem is with power suply.but then i noticed something peculier.when i oressed the power button,my motherboard fan moved a bit..just a bit..not even one rotation..probably only 2 degrees.for further diagnoses,i tried a dew more things.second observable things happened when i removed both of my RAMs.when i pressed power button without ram,the cpu fan did two-three rotation..complete rotation this time.third noticable thing happened when i disconnected the power cable of hrd disk.all the fans and leds came to life..cpu sounded as it generally does..there was power in dvd writer.i thought i could boot linux from my cd..but sadly it didnt boot.screen showed-"A bootable devicd has not been detected.please refer to the product guide at http:/support.intel.com/support/motherboards/desktop"...and yes..when i reconnect the hard drive..the situation becomes as it was...like no power..sort of dead pc.And yes..i wud like to inform..its i3 DH61HO classic series..i hav four gb ram..and not any graphic card installed other than the one which comes inbuilt.and hrd disk is of seagate.please help me.

Hey guys, I am new to this forum, found it while searching about possible reasons my pc wont start. Looks like a great forum, i have read a few threads of users with similar problems. My computer is an IBM thinkcentreWindows xp SP2pentium 4512 ram80 hdBought it about 3 years, know its not the sharpest tool by far lol, but have some data i would like to avoid losing. It has been a good computer, no complaints, never froze or anything, just wanted to turn it on yesterday and...SURPRISE... I guess the correct term is it does not boot. Nothing appears on the screen, no words, logos or anything. I can hear some noise inside the PC, know it could be the hard drive not working, but it makes the same sounds it always does. I know it could be any hardware problem. One note, this had happened like twice, maybe once every 6-8 months, but I would just turn it off, then back on again and everything would be back to normal... not this time I guess. Could it be a virus or something? I dont think so, have not downloaded any new files and I have anti-virus installed. What do you guys think? Any suggestions??Thanks for taking the time to read

Answer:COMPUTER WONT START

Pull the cover off and look for dead fans. And blow the dust out than take a look at the video card. Does it have a fan? If its not moving than I would say you need a new one. This is a start of things to look at.

Hi, well before this happened I had defragmented my c folder and changed the virtual memory initial and maximum size, then went to play guild wars, as guild wars was on my computer instantly shut off, before this I have had problems while playing this game. there is nothing wrong with the wires or anything, when I replug the wire into the cpu it gets a charge big enough to turn 2 of the fans for a split second and then cuts off, to do this again I have to replug the coord. any suggestions on how to get it to turn on fully?

Answer:computer wont start

Sounds like a bad power supply but posting your system specs will help.

Hello Guys,

Firstly brilliant site!

My son has a pacrkard bell gamming computer i.power I thnk its called. I thinks its about 3 years old,and its worked fine until yesterday.

I think he tried to install somthing on it that had somthing piggy back on it as well,he tried unistalling and Re-Booted. The computer on reboot flagged up it was trying to repair itself he has Windows vista home on it. This lasted for about 8 minutes whilst it was applying the repairs, but shortly before it shut down the screen went totally white. I tried to restart thinking it shutdown ok but now its dead! no start up beeps no fans no nothing,it like I tried to start it without the power supply being on which I also checked of course.
I try to maintain the computer ie antivirus protection up to date scan system once a week? ( McAfee)
Spybot search and destroy updated and scanned and so on.

I think Im going to have to take it somwhere to get it sorted because Im in no way shape or form an expert, so any help you guys could give me on this would be great.
Many thanks in advance.

I have a computer to mend for a friends and when you push power button you can hear the processor fan going round but the computer does not fire for about 2-3 mins, then the green light comes on at front and all loads ok.
This does not happen if the power plug is left in and swithced on at wall.

Hi guys, need your help, this is my first build (bought a barebones before and added everything video card, ram ect.)this time I deciede to start from scratch. My problem is it wont start, the mobo has a light which tells me that it has power but the processor fan will not spin ( it is connected to the right place) the ram has a light too but it is not on (ram works tested on my other system), all the conncetors are correctly connected, one question though are both power conncetors supposed to be connected the +12v and the long connector (don't know what it is called) any help on troubleshooting would be appreciated. Also am I supposed to do something with the jumpers ( the quick start guide mentions something about clearing CMOS data and CPU's and FSB select on the jumpers section or am I supposed to leave it the way it came out of the box)???

Here are my specs:

AMD 2800+barton
DFI mobo NForce 2 400-AL
512x2 kingston RAM PC3200
200gb seagate barracuda
5200 FX video card

Answer:computer wont start

Thx, actually I got it to start last night had conncected the atx power button to the wrong place, computer will start now but nothing happens after that no picture whatsoever. All the fans spin and everything seems ok (no beep) but mobo lights start up tells me there is power on the board and the ram (board has two lights) cpu fan spins but nothing. I disconnected everything with the exception of the video card and one stick of ram and nothing (by the way why only one stick of ram, just curious). My power supply is 420 watts, should be ok right.

I decided to change some settings in bios so I resterted to access bios but once I tryed to turn it back on my computer would not start, all I see is a blank screen as if it was in stand by mode...
I checked inside the comp the mobo videocard cd and hdds all had power everything was spinning like it was suppost to... i have been serching through all these forums and it seems like i need a new power supply.... is there a way to tell that i need one without buying a new one and figuring out that was not the problem or am I way off?

And all this just one day before I would pick up my copy of doom 3 what luck....

Answer:computer wont start

reset your cmos by changing the cmos jumpers you can find it near the cmos battery. if you cant find it remove the power cord and remove the battery for a minute or so. you might have disturbed the cmos settings!

Greetz to all.

My computer is not starting and im not sure what the reason is. It first started as a complete inability to power up, hiting the power button the computer didnt respond at all. I suspected the power unit so i bought a new one (550W as i have a ****load of HD-s and CD/DVDs inside) and replaced it. Now i get some response from the unit as the computer starts up for a short time (3-4 sec) bud then powers down again.

All the fans start up normaly (CPU fan, Casing fan, PU fan) and all looks normal but just wont stay on.

P.S. I get a very silent buzzing noise from the mainboard(i think). When i put my ear inside the comp i hear the buzzing but barely. Its kind of an ambulance melody (Tiii Naaa) but in a buzzing sound.

I removed all unneeded hardware (LAN/WLAN/Sound card), inserted another graphics card, inserted another ram module into a unused memory slot, and disconnected all HD/CD/DVD except the boot HD(tried another HD also), so im guessing its none of the above.

Any ideas what it could be, and what i can do to fix it?

Thx in advance.

Hi there.

My friend was online to me on MSN about 30 minutes ago...
Then she went offline, and phone me saying her computer is going so slow and wont load up... I think she was in her msconfig settings trying to stop messnger loading on startup, obviously she may have pressed something else? But anyway, now the computer just lags on startup and doesnt get past it... it just sits and waits...

Is there anyway to back up at a system restore point or put the msconfig settings back to default or anything?

Thanks for your help

Answer:Computer Wont Start

She could try going into safe mode by pressing the F8 key during POST (just before windows begins to load) and selecting the safe mode option.

If she gets into that, she can run system restore there.

I turned the power supply on (button on back of computer) and the fans and the led lights on the mobo start to flicker, as if they wanted to start but they do not have enough power. I didn't even press the power button on the front panel on it and after I did nothing, does anyone have any advise on how to troubleshoot the problem????

ok so i got a computer from a garage sale and I'm trying to get it running. I've tried putting in a new power supply, a boot disk, and i tried a new video card. i cant seem to figure out why it wont start.
right now i have it stripped down to just a cnr video card, a hard drive, and cd drive. the motherboard is a intel d850gb. when i push the power button everything gets power and spins normally but nothing comes up on the screen and it never gets to the point where it gives a beep code.
i noticed a led on the mother board that is labeled "cr6f1" comes on when ever it is plugged in but i haven't found the meaning to that, i was thinking it was an indication of a system error or something. if you have any ideas i would appreciate the help.

Yesterday my computer was fine. When I tried to boot it up today, nothing happened, except for half a second where the fans spin a little (All fans, cpu, gpu etc). The motherboard light is green, and everything seems to be in perfect shape. I assumed my PSU was broken, so I tried a different one. First boot and it works great, but when I boot it up the second time (I forgot to connect the dvd-player) nothing happens, except for half a second like before. A PC-shop tested the PSU, and the readings state that there's nothing wrong with the PSU itself. What can be the problem? I'm getting desperate.

ASUS P5N32-E SLI, E6850, 8800GTX, Corsair 620W, 4GB OCZ

Answer:Computer wont start

It is most likely an overload issue. Just because the PSU tests fine doesn't necessary mean that it is good. I would try a spare PSU and if the issue still persists I would replace the DVD drive.

Specs:
AMD Athlon 2800+ CPU
1 Gig Ram (2 sticks of 512)
Geforce 3 Chipset Motherboard

I am a BIG fan of Everquest 2. Last night I was playing the games and the game began to slow down and get jumpy. So I decided to quit the game and restart my computer.

When I did restart from windows, it quit to a black screen with a cursor blinking up in the upper left hand corner. So I scratched my head a few times and held the power button in and powered it down and turned it back on. It came up to that black bios screen where it show your system spec stuff and froze at the first line that read AMD ATHLON 2800+, usually it then auto detects my hardware and goes to boot into windows.

SO, I pulled out a few of my head hairs, because this is also my business computer and has ALL my documents I need on it. I tried a couple things I remmebred from back in my tech days and still got no further then it freezing at the same spot. Here is a list of what I did:

Disconnected IDE cables, restarted nothing...
Disconnected IDE Cables, replaced ram from a good computer, nothing...
I removed CMOS battery and unplugged from wall to reset bios..nothing
I changed the jumper to reset the bios nothing

Now since I reset the bios it doesnt see the AGP card, and uses the onboard video. And it comes up with a big "E" on the screen like the manufacturers emblem and says press F2 to goto BIOS, hitting F2 does nothing but excersize my finger muscles....

I eliminated everyt... Read more

Hello! Welcome to TechSpot!

What is the make and model of MoBo?
What is the make, model & wattage of your PSU?
What changes have you made, recently or prior to this trouble?

Try a different PSU, but this sounds more like MoBo
trouble. You may need a bios update.

Hello trojan

This is a check which XP runs if there is a problem.

Have you left it running for some hours? Sometimes it takes chkdsk quite a long time to fix errors. Leave it longer and see if it eventually completes

I turn it on and it gives me the option to either start normally or launch start up repair. When I launch normally it gives me the starting windows screen then it redirects back to the launch normally or launch up repair. When I launch repair it gives me a blank light blue screen. I also want to say that when I select either option I see the blue screen of death flashes for a second on the screen.PLEASE HELP PLEASEWINDOWS 7 home premium

Answer:PLEASE PLEASE HELP. COMPUTER WONT START!

Oh boy. We are going to need the model number but I am pretty sure you can get into diagnostics by tapping F2 as you power up or the BIOS by tapping F10. We are going to try to find a diagnostic to test the hard drive. Let's start there and we can figure where to go next.
