I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

So I turn my computer off one day only to find it wont start the next day. I open the case up and see the led is on. I flip the switch on the power supply off then on and quickly press the power button. My computer starts but the following time I shut down the computer it again wont start and now the led is blinking. I've never had any issues like this before, any help would be appreciated.

I don't routinely use many usb devices, only my mouse and keyboard and every now and then my ipod. I figure the issue is likely either the power supply or the motherboard. The ps is almost two years old while the motherboard is only about three months old.

Answer:Computer wont start, power supply wont start, blinking led

It sounds to me like your PSU is the problem, get a hold of another and plug it to your computer and see if that will make it start, if it doesn't it might be BOTH your motherboard and PSU. A bad PSU will burn a motherboard.

No matter what option i pick in the safe mode list, the computer will not start. when i choose any of the safe modes, (safe mode, safe mode with networking etc) the computer displays a list of random commands (i dont understand any of it) and then restarts. If I try to Start Windows Normally, or use last settings that worked, it seems to start loading, and then restarts.

Any ideas?

guys,

my computer wont boot and still it wont display.
i already changed a video card and stil it wont.
it have no beep at all and it will not display.

what should i do?

Answer:guys my computer wont start and wont have a display

does it beep any. if not this will indicate more major problems. (unless you dont have beep speaker installed) a mother board is programed with a set of beep to play if there is a problem like such as three beeps if the ram is not working, 1 long beep if the vid card is not working etc etc. I DO NOT KNOW WHAT YOUR BEEPs WILL BE. if you are not getting these then you need to find out why. see if you have a speaker inside your case. if you do and all of your fans spin but still no action from you pc then you may have a larger problem such as mother board or processor.

Nothing will load on my Compaq Presario 700 notebook. It wont even turn on in safe mode.
When I go to turn it on it sounds like the hard drive attempts to spin. I don't hear the fans, but all the lights come on. The battery is fairly new and everything is plugged in properly.
All this began when I was running Macromedia Dreamweaver MX and it locked up forcing me to shut down.
Any ideas?

I had this computer for almost 2 month now but recently seems to be acting a bit strange.

My specs are:

ASUS P5N-E SLI LGA 775 NVIDIA nForce 650i SLI ATX Intel Motherboard

EVGA 320-P2-N811-AR GeForce 8800GTS 320MB 320-bit GDDR3

Intel Core 2 Duo E6850 Conroe 3.0GHz 4M shared L2 Cache LGA 775

G.SKILL 2GB 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800

Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 (Perpendicular Recording) ST3500630AS 500GB 7200 RPM 16MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s

The problem with the computer started when i tried to restart it and it simply wouldnt boot everything seemed to work the fans were spinning in every component yet it wouldnt boot as in the beep sound when a computer starts didnt sound off. One part thats intresting is that the DVD-R drive light would keep blinking green like it is reading something and make sounds. After a while leaving it for about 15 minutes or so on the computer suddenly worked and I realized this when the mobo beeped signaling its coming to life.

This was 2 days ago now yesterday late at night i was running windows when it suddenyl got really slow and froze so i restarted it manually and bam the computer wont turn on. I took it down started looking at all the components making sure everything was alright and in place I even disconnected the DVD drive completely to see if it is the cause of the problem but to now avail it just wont turn on normally. So i left it on went to my PSP hijacked someones wireless and went online to check if this problem is comm... Read more

Answer:Computer just wont work(Wont start up)

Ok my computer worked and when it booted it listed these following problems:

1-Display switch is set incorrectly

2-CMOS checksum error

3-Override enabled

4-Keyboard error or no keyboard

5- this last one it gave it to me couple of times then stopped : Warning CPU

has changed!

After listing all this it says press F1 to continue or DEL to enter setup. When i enter setup since i flashed the mobo the date was reset when i try correct the date the area where it shows which day it is flickers quickly between tues and wed and when i try to input 2007 it goes to 2056. I removed every hardware piece by piece and rebuilt the whole bloody thing I cant tell whats wrong is it my CPU, Mobo, Harddrive or powersupply all these parts are brand new and been working fine for sometime now.

For the love of god someone out there send some help as this is getting hopeless. Sometimes it turns on if i leave it on for long time on time turned right away which was after i rebuilt the pc.

I posted this in the hardware section because i know its gotta be hardware related. On one of my older computers, which is a HP(bought in 2002), wont start at all. Not even the Compaq logo will display, which means BIOS wont start either. so i cant boot at all, or operate the computer in anyway. This happened right after i installed a gig of RAM, i was upgrading from 512 mb to 1 gig, they were 2 different cards, 512 each, and both had 189 pins. I installed them, booted up and nothing.

I really dint think there is a solution for this though, because after that, i put the 512 RAM back in and it still didnt work. Im thinking the motherboard was fried, by static electricity maybe. if thats the case than ill just get a new computer. which leads me to my next question.
How do i access my Harddrive? I have a lot of valuable data on there and an expensive music collection, as well as a bounch of backed up movies.
Any help is really appreciated guys, thanks in advance.

Well, today when I woke up I tried starting my computer, but it started making beeping noises and the light on the expansion bay started flashing. I looked up the problem, and found it it's beep code. The beeps my computer is making is as follows:
short, short, long
short, short, long
short, short, long
short, short, long
short, short, long

There is a one second interval in between each set. I went to the HP site and found this page: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?lc=en&dlc=en&cc=us&docname=bph07107#N1010 . However, I'm not sure if it applies to my BIOS or not. I have a HP Pavilion Media Center m8120n TV PC, 3GB RAM, Nvidia GeForce 7350 LE Graphics Card, and about 500GB of HDD space, and an Intel Core 2 Quad Processor Q6600.

I tried looking for the specific BIOS on my computer, but couldn't find it. So I can only assume what they say is my problem is what it actually is. Which is that my computer was "Unable to initialize video or video card required but not installed". This computer is about 4 years old, and I have never changed the card, and have not updated the drivers for several months. How can I fix this problem? I read on other forums where people where having problems with their RAM they had to try putting it into a different slot, however, I'm not sure if my computer has multiple PCI-E slots to do this. Furthermore, If I do have to do something similar, I have no means of grounding myself. Would it be okay if ... Read more

Answer:Computer makes beeping noises on start, computer wont run

Do you have any display at all?

If not, then it's probably certain that the beep code is correct; that your video chip needs butter (because it's toast).

Does it have a video card installed? If so, pull it, and see if you can get display through the native video output. If it is without a video card, go to a local shop, and see if they have on old one, compatible with your system, that you can use to test with. If it tests good, you probably need to buy a video card...

If your computer is disconnected, you can probably get away without any grounding strap. Nothing in life is guaranteed tho'.

Well, my brand new self-built PC died upstairs (been using it for 2 months at least now, no hitch). This is what happens. I press the power button, and after 3 seconds, it beens 4 times in rapid succession, then sits there. Nothing posts to the screen, and everything inside the PC seems to be running fine. Specs include Windows XP pro, AMD 2600+, 512mb pc3200 ram, an 80gb hard drive, a dvd 16x rom drive, 6 case fans. Right before this problem happened, the computer had frozen on my dad, and since it wasnt responding to anything done on keyboard and mouse, he held the power button for 5 seconds and it powered down. Ever since, it wont start past that beeping. Beeping stops, and nothing happens. Monitor goes into power save mode, and computer just sits there running doing god knows what. Whats wrong with it?

Answer:My computer wont start

The beeping is a BIOS trouble code. Do you nkow what BIOS your mobo uses? If not, what make and model is your mobo, and someone (me or whoever beats me to it) will look it up.

So I put in the operating disc and did the start up repair and well its been doing that for hours and I dont know if its actually doing anything. im not sure what I have to do, I recently backed up all my files so If i need to I can reformat it all but i dont even know how to do that.

I'd say stop it

Let the computer cool down (30 mins or more)

Start the Vista setup again
This time remove old partitions
And do a clean install (This part is your choice - but is preferred option)

Recently I changed my PSU. I realized that my old 350W just was not cutting it any more. (I have an old pentium4 computer). So I added a 550W PSU. For the first few days every thing worked nicely than all of a sudden the computer stoped working. I remember how after the screen went into energy saving mode I could not bring back the screen. First I thought of a system crash and rebooted but after that nothing appeared on the screen. I changed the monitor and I got the same result so the problem is not with the monitor. Now either it is the Graphics card or the CPU. (maybe the motherboard too)

So can you help me with this? How would I know what is wrong with my computer?

Answer:My computer wont start.

does it at least do a post beep or something? usually that will tell you the problem. you can also try switching slots with ram or try 1 ram at a time.

This is a check which XP runs if there is a problem.

Have you left it running for some hours? Sometimes it takes chkdsk quite a long time to fix errors. Leave it longer and see if it eventually completes

What can I do to put it right for her???

Try a different video card in the PC, that probably got toasted as well when the monitor went.

Now, when I press the power button, nothing happens, a few minutes before; it would boot but nothing would appear on the screen (I would hear the BEEP boot sound) and then if i moved my mouse, strange things appear and get off of the screen; so I opened the case to check if anything was wrong, but now when i press the power button the CPU fan goes on for 3 seconds then turns off and nothing happens, no boot or anything... could it perhaps be the power supply?

when I turn off my pc it wont restart for 20+ minutes. The screen remains in standby but the cd rom, hdd, and floppy make sounds (not those heard when usually booting) but no beeps and no noise through speakers. I have no idea what is going on!

I know it is not due to muy graphics card as i have tried my dads and the problem remains. My dad has the same system bar the sound card (which isnt the problem).
I also don't think the problem lies with the HDD as i have had this problem with 2

The motherboard is a GIGABYTE GA-6WMM7 (under 1 yr old)
Athlon 1.2 GHz chip
Hercules Prophet 4000XP graphics agp card

My computer is kind of new its 2 years old and I have put a lot of money into it. It has been working flawlessly until recently one day I went to turn it on and it starts up and goes to a black screen with a blinking white line and stays there and does nothing else. I've tried doing a system recovery, putting a windows 7 disc in their etc. Nothing seems to work. My uncle who is very knowledgeable in computers said everything is running but something has wiped out my operating system. I don't care if I lose everything I just want my computer working again. .

Answer:My computer wont start

Have you checked your BIOS settings to make sure it's loading the proper boot device? (Your HDD, presumably)

Have you ever checked your HDD for errors? Sounds like a corrupted OS, to me. If you have a Windows 7 disk, pop it into the optical drive, and enter your BIOS Boot Menu (On Dell, it's F12 upon start up, Escape on HP Desktops, etc.) Pick your CD/DVD Drive and attempt to re-install Windows. Better yet, you can buy HDD enclosures for pretty cheap and, if you have another machine, you can use it to access your HDD externally. This way you can backup your data, if needed.

Also, you can use tools such as Kaspersky's Recovery Disk or Hiren's Rescue Disk (Mini XP) to get data off of your HDD, given that it works.

Hello there!

I was fiddling around on my computer this afternoon as I was trying to set up some visual styles. In order to do this, you have to patch some .dll files in System32 to get the visual styles to work. Upon patching them, I restart my computer and now it wont load past the Welcome Screen. A bunch of pop-ups come up, telling me that something is missing so I ended up turning my system off. I have a couple restore points on that computer that would be able to fix this problem but I can't figure out how to get it to run far enough so that I can get to the restore point settings.

Is there any work around or something for this? Maybe I can run the restore points from another computer (like the one I am on right now)?

Info wise, my computer is running on Rindows Vista 32bit with Service Pack 2 installed.

Ok heres the situation, I have an Emachine T3092 and all I wanted to do was to tranfer all the internal parts(motherboard, hard drive, dvd/cd rom etc ) to a bigger case. I bought an Aspire xdreamer2 computer case at Newegg this week. Upon tranfering, all I did was unscrewed all the bolts from the motherboard, took off the IDE drives, dvd/cd rom, power supply etc etc. I made a diagram of the Power SW, HDD Led, and Power Led and used a needle nose to put to the slot. The Xdreamer case had a Reset SW but the Emachine motherboard(Fic AU31) had no connection for it so I let that be. After I did all this, I tried turning on the computer but it just wont start.

What else did I do? I swapped power supply, still wont start.
I swapped and used the Emachine front panel Power SW, HDD Led, and Power Led - still no go

When I say it just wont start, I mean nothing goes, no sound, no nothing

Any suggestions?

hi all. recently i have encountered problems with my computer. Sometimes when i boot it up, it shows the windows xp loading screen, but then the screen goes black, my harddrive seems to keep spinning and it makes a clicking sound, nothing else happens. The only way I can boot my computer is if i go to the selection "Last good configuration", but even when i do, the clicking happens every 2-3 boots. One time, however, when i selected "Last good configuration" I got the BSOD "Bad_pool_Header". I did some research and discovered it means some drivers are not up-to-date. It also explained that it could be fixed by disabling the indexing service. The problem is I already have indexing disabled, and i believe my drivers are up-to-date, but ill check.

My specs are:
P4 2.0 Ghz
Windows XP Home
512 RAM
Radeon 9800 pro
Emachines Manufacturer

ps. the only other changes i can think of that ive done are tweaks from http://mywebpages.comcast.net/SupportCD/OptimizeXP.html

any help would be very appreciated!

thx

Do any fans spin, are there any lights that are lit including your motherboard, are you plugged into a power suge protector? How old is this system?

Give us your system's hardware specs. If this a prebuilt system such as an HP or Dell, etc. then link us to your particular model.

my computer has been making a beeping sound for awhile, i dont know the sequence of beeps, which i just learned are important to know. The other day my computer shut down on its own and now i cant get it to restart, it wont do anything. it just sits there. could it be my power suply, or did those beeps mean something??

Answer:Computer wont start

yes those beeps mean something.

What make/model is your PC?

It will help diagnose your problem alot easier.

But to throw out a few suggestions, your RAM video card, heck even the mobo itself could be messed up.

Hello,

I have recently bought a brand new computer for only 200 Bucks at Micro Center. I have only had for A week straight. I did not download any torrents music or nothing on it..

I went to turn my computer on. I have experienced a continuous restart when it attempts to load windows.

It take me to windows starting options.

Start windows normally
Start windows in safe mode
Start windows in safe mode network enabled
Start windows in safe mode command prompt enabled

I tried all four of them. And nothing happend. It will just continue to restart.

What do I need to do? Should I take my computer back to the store and refund my money? Or am I ****** out of $200??

Thanks for reading!

It wont start using the start disc and it wont start in safe mode... at this point it tries to start up but after about a minute it just shuts itself off. I was wondering if there is a way to hook it up to another computer to run a virus check on it. Or if you have any other sugestions before I take it in and spend a whole whack of money.Thanx guysoh ya, I almost forgot. It's a p3 running win98

Answer:my computer wont start up

Has anyone been monkeying around inside the case? It could have all sorts of software issues or one hardware problem that's gotten worse. As this has gone on for a while it's hard to say. It's even harder because we know nothing about your system - make and model, CPU, RAM, operating system, any spyware/adware/virus protection, and specifics about the system.Give us a few more clues. Does the roommate have any ideas? It may be time to head on down to the local shop, but let's see what you can tell us.

Recently, my brother got a new computer and put his old one in a closet for about a month, before he decided to give it to me. Unfortunately, this computer that was working perfectly fine when he set it aside now wont start. It turns on well enough, the fans come on and everything, and according to his description, because I don't actually get it until I drive up there tomorrow, fans come on, screen wont come on, drive sounds like it's trying to load something every twenty seconds or so, and the hard drive light doesn't turn on. Anyone have any idea what's happening?

sometimes, it wont star and the reset button wont work.-- requires shutting it off at the back (power source) turning power supply back on, then the start button.

unless I hear that initial beep, I know it wont start. 99.9% of the time I don't get the beep and have to go through this procedure to start it.

ironically, everything has been replaced on it over the last 2 years.

ram
motherboard
cdrive
new additional hard drive
power supply
even the box has been replaced
video card etc

its only the very ODD time it will start first try. of course the shops fix for this is to simply start to replace stuff. now that everthing is replaced, it still doesn't work properly.

so then I tried changing the location in the house. that didn't make a difference either. I tried different circuits, changed the power bar/breaker, plugged it in directly without a power bar, changed the power cord several times.

I don't get it.

I also have a mac which is in the same room and it works fine (touch wood)

Answer:My computer wont start

Does it power up at all (ie are there any power lights)
Is there any message on screen (ie cannot find HardDrive)

I would remove all connections internally again
Also you want to remove any plugged in PCI cards
Reconnect all internal connections
Confirm that all connectors are securely connected (this is probably the problem)
Push the power cord in securely
Turn back on

When i turn on my computer it takes me to the screen that says the computer couldn't turn on properly. It gives me the 3 options for safe mode, a start normally, and start before the problem started.

On any of those options that i choose, it gets to a blank screen (the one just before the login box pops up) and it freezes. It quits loading.
I tried hitting F8 to take me to the troubleshooting menu, but still, ALL the options provided have the same result, a blank screen.

Is there a way to fix this without losing all of my memory? If so, is it expensive?

Answer:Computer Wont Start

Sounds to me like something in your MBR (Master Boot Record) got jacked up. Your can try putting in your windows CD and see if it will let you boot onto it and use the repair option to try and fix the MBR from there, but there's no promise there.
Have you made any changes to the computer at all hardware or software wise before this starting happening?

Hello, recently i opened my computer to clean it all due to it crashing constantly because (i think) it overheating and dust collecting up. After i was finished with cleaning every part i put them all back into the correct places and did not change anything. When everything was in place i turned on the power supply and pressed the button and the computer would not start at all, not even a sign of power.

I did notice a very silent biiiiip which sounded like a fan spinning really fast siliently which i thought was coming from the power supply so i took it out and tryed it with another computer and it worked fine without the sound. Only when i connected it up to my motherboard i start to hear the silent fan-biiip sound. I am still not sure if the sound is coming from the motherboard or the power supply making the sound because of the motherboard. I beleive it can only be the motherboard failing because of something.

I still havent been to my local PC shop to see if they can find an issue that i missed but till then i will try and find some help here.

Please help, and thank you for replying.

And have you tried opening the case to make sure nothings loose, checking a new power supply, or googled to see if a standard ATX power supply would fit?Let us have a clue so we can offer a valid suggestion. Hi there.

My friend was online to me on MSN about 30 minutes ago...
Then she went offline, and phone me saying her computer is going so slow and wont load up... I think she was in her msconfig settings trying to stop messnger loading on startup, obviously she may have pressed something else? But anyway, now the computer just lags on startup and doesnt get past it... it just sits and waits...

Is there anyway to back up at a system restore point or put the msconfig settings back to default or anything?

Thanks for your help

Answer:Computer Wont Start

She could try going into safe mode by pressing the F8 key during POST (just before windows begins to load) and selecting the safe mode option.

If she gets into that, she can run system restore there.

Hi,

When I put my computer on a black screen comes up saying windows has no successfully done something .... ect I get things to do like. Start windows normal, safe mode, with network, with command prompt, start windows last working point ect ... Whenever I select one of them it restarts flashes a very quick blue screen of death and restarts to return to the screen so i'm stuck in a circle.

I tried hitting R to repair to OS when I put the disc in and it was examining the HDD for about 4 minuites is that to long? I restarted it ... because I wasnt to sure if that is how long it takes and I was worried about loosing data. Sorry for the really bad explaination, any ideas?

ok so i got a computer from a garage sale and I'm trying to get it running. I've tried putting in a new power supply, a boot disk, and i tried a new video card. i cant seem to figure out why it wont start.
right now i have it stripped down to just a cnr video card, a hard drive, and cd drive. the motherboard is a intel d850gb. when i push the power button everything gets power and spins normally but nothing comes up on the screen and it never gets to the point where it gives a beep code.
i noticed a led on the mother board that is labeled "cr6f1" comes on when ever it is plugged in but i haven't found the meaning to that, i was thinking it was an indication of a system error or something. if you have any ideas i would appreciate the help.

Yesterday my computer was fine. When I tried to boot it up today, nothing happened, except for half a second where the fans spin a little (All fans, cpu, gpu etc). The motherboard light is green, and everything seems to be in perfect shape. I assumed my PSU was broken, so I tried a different one. First boot and it works great, but when I boot it up the second time (I forgot to connect the dvd-player) nothing happens, except for half a second like before. A PC-shop tested the PSU, and the readings state that there's nothing wrong with the PSU itself. What can be the problem? I'm getting desperate.

ASUS P5N32-E SLI, E6850, 8800GTX, Corsair 620W, 4GB OCZ

Answer:Computer wont start

It is most likely an overload issue. Just because the PSU tests fine doesn't necessary mean that it is good. I would try a spare PSU and if the issue still persists I would replace the DVD drive.

hello,

when I press the power button on the front of my pc all the fans and lights come on and spin round as normal and the computer sounds normal (from the inside). But the screen and my key board and mouse (which are both USB) won?t work. This problem has started immediately after replacing my old CPU fan. In the process of replacing the fan we had to take out the mother board and other drives because of installing a new bracket for it to mount on. my thoughts at this stage are either that the mother board is broken (although the new cpu fan still works) or that there is maybe a little cable some where that I have not plugged in properly and is causing this problem. I would be very great full if some one could help and give me some pointers to what it could be and maybe what to check.

thank you

I have a dell latitude d610 and when I start it a message pops up saying I need to uninstall anti-virus and I have the blue screen of death. Any suggestions?

Answer:Please help, my computer wont start

How old is your Dell?

Did you contact Dell Support? (don't forget to have your Service Tag ready)

Did you register your AntiVirus when you got the Dell and keep your subscription up-to-date?

Do you have the recovery CD that came with your Dell?

Do you have a Setup CD for your OS? (WinXP)

IF you have the WinXP Setup CD:

Step-1) Try this:Boot to your WinXP Setup CD
At the 1st window with the Repair option on the bottom Statusbar, do that to open the Repair Console
When you get to the Repair Console's Command Prompt enter CHKDSK C: /R (the R is not a typo)
Let CHKDSK do its thing, then reboot
Also, running CHKDSK from the desktop (via Start menu, Accessories, Command Prompt) by entering CHKDSK C: /F (the F is not a typo), occasionally. This should be part of your general system maintenance routine. Note that this will require a reboot to actually run.

If Step-1 did NOT work...
Step-2 do a Repair Reinstall WinXP...
Do this:Boot to your WinXP Setup CD

i just got a new case today and when i got everything installed and went to boot up, all that happened was the fans and lights turned on for like 2 seconds then shut off. ive got it to stay on before and all i have gotten was a blank screen with the fans running and the HDD light and cd rom lights on. i have tried switching the graffix card and i have also tried a brand new power supply so i know they arn't the problem, the only way that i have got any thing up on the screen is with my friends motherboard and processor hooked up in my case. i have also tried switching sitching processors with him and it worked in his motherboard. so im not sure whats wrong with my computer can someone please explain what i could do, all i could think of is get the parts tested by professionals but i have to wait untill next week for that.

Answer:Computer wont start!!!!!

Hi and welcome. Unplug any external devices besides the keyboard, mouse and monitor, and try to restart.

If that doesn't work, you might try another power supply.

My computer was running slowly. Impatient, I took out the batter without shutting down and then re-started windows. Instead of booting up like it normally does after something like this, it went through some process where it tried to repair the system. In the process, a bunch of files were unreadable, and the computer deleted them. Now, it's like my computer simply does not have windows on it. When booting up, it still recognizes that it is a toshiba computer. After the boot fails, it takes me to the boot menu, where it appears that some of my settings are still saved. Is this a problem that can be solved by re-installing windows?

Answer:My computer wont start

I'm running a Dell Inspiron E1505. My wireless was having a problem. I followed the steps outlined in this post.

http://forums.techguy.org/networking/586274-wireless-network-detected-but-internet.html

Mainly I went into command prompt and did the following:

Reset WINSOCK entries to installation defaults: netsh winsock reset catalog

Reset TCP/IP stack to installation defaults. netsh int ip reset reset.log
When I went to restart my computer wouldn't turn on! The power light is illuminated, the CD drive clicks once, but other than that nothing happens.

As I was typing this post the Inspiron suddenly booted up (it had been sitting there for 45 minutes at this point with the power light on). It seemed to run fine until suddenly the screen went black (it was backlit now where as before there wasn't any light) and thats the end of the story.

I tried restarting it again and it still hasn't booted up. Its just sitting there with the power light on.

Help Please!

Answer:Computer Wont Start Up

Do you get anything on the screen when you turn it on? If so, start pressing F8 right away. If you succeed in getting to the boot options, choose "last known good configuration". See if it boots all the way up. If not, you could try the Dell utility partition and run diagnostics. This can be accessed by choosing F12 almost immediately after pressing the power button, once the menu loads choose Utility partition and run all diagnostics. Hope this helps solve your issue, let the forum know if it does.

Ok, so I was opening up my computer and noticed there was soem dust around my RAM so I took the RAM chip out and cleaned the slot and what not and stuck the chip back in. When I did that and tryed to turn on the computer the fans would go for 1 second then stop. When i take he power cord out of the back of the comp then stick it back in the little green light turns on telling me there is power but once I try to turn the computer on the light will go off and the fans will turn off. Any ideas?

Answer:Computer wont start up!!!

Hmm...

The fans starting up and going off COULD mean you have a short in your motherboard. This happened to me when I was putting together my new motherboard. Check under the motherboard to make sure there is no screw holes or pins from the case that may be shorting out the board.

It could also mean that the RAM hasn't been correctly replaced. Try taking out and re-seating the RAM. Note that it does take a considerable amount of force to insert a stick of RAM, so push until the levers on both sides snap into place.

Is the power light of the case coming on when you plug it in or is it a little green light on the power supply? If it's on the case, it could be a motherboard power issue, maybe a shorting issue. Try re-inserting the RAM because if the RAM isn't properly inserted, the computer can't post and will stop running. If your motherboard has a buzzer thing on it (a little black cylinder with a hole in the middle) it should beep a few times if the RAM isn't properly inserted (some motherboards can't make beeping noises, most can).

I'd first try reinserting the RAM and see if it goes away.

Ok problem with a friends computer. when i switch it on it wont start up. some times when you press the power button the fans (Case and CPU) spin for about half a second then goes off again.

Other times the lights on the front of the case will light up all fans spin and the hard drives make some noise for a few seconds. Nothing happens with the monitor, just stays blank and dosnt come out of stanbby mode.No beeps, green light on the motherboard LED. After about 30-60 seconds the computer switches off.

The computer is about 1 year old and worked fine until now. Mother board is Asus A7VBX-MX SE not to sure what the processor is.

Any ideas

What PSU do you have? It sounds like that the PSU is a cheap generic one, that always go sooner or later.

Hi -

You need to boot up the system with your HP Vista recovery DVD. If you did not burn one, you can obtain replacements from HP for about $30 -

MY computer wont start up. It cant go to the log in screen. I start it up and it runs through everything and before it goes to the log in screen and then it just restarts and the whole thing happens again. THis has never happened to me before it was working fine last night.
HELP

Answer:Computer wont start up

If you just installed something before this happened, begin tapping F8 at boot and when you get to the options menu, use the arrow key to select Last Known Good Configuration and then press Enter.

You could also try the system restore from command prompt.
Tap F8 and select Safe Mode with command prompt.
Log on to your computer with an administrator account if needed.
Type the following command at a command prompt,

%systemroot%\system32\restore\rstrui.exe

and then press ENTER
Follow the instructions that appear on the screen to restore your computer to an earlier state.

7E is such an awkward beggar because it can suddenly pop up in a system that was working perfectly five minutes earlier.. Start with taking everything out of the back of the box except keyboard, mouse and monitor and see if that helps. If it does, add one extra at a time until the culprit shows itself.

Hello everybody reading this thread,
First of all i would like to thank you for taking the time to read this. I just got done building my new computer the specs are as follows.

motherboard- intel d915gevl
processor- intel pentium 4 530j 3.0ghz
memory-1 gig ddr2 533 ram
os- windows xp (if i can ever get the computer started lol)
hard drive- 80 gig maxtor diamondmax 10 sata drive
case- kingwin mutant x gaming case with a 420 watt psu
(i dont really know what other info you need)

well here it is in a nut shell, i've built computers before, never really went for the gaming case thing, i usually just stick to the average case but i wanted to do something different this time, everything is hooked up ,the little green led is lit where you hook the psu into the motherboard, i press power, nothing happens, i hold it in for 4 seconds then let go it makes a kind of hissing noise, it only lasts for a second not even. i unhooked everything and hooked it back up numerous times its still the same thing, there is one weird thing i have noticed for my fp header on the mother board i have the usual pwr sw, hdd led, reset sw, but instead of our usual pwr led, they turned it into a molex connector. i dont know if that is the problem, i've trouble shooted my **** off lol, i've tried to get a hold of kingwin because when i recieved the case there was no book paper work or nothing just a reciept. well i have e-mailed them so many times, the first time i waited a wee... Answer:my new computer wont start

Hi jeffdogg, sorry to hear you are having problems, I hate it when that happens. The first thing I would suspect, is the power supply. If you have an extra power supply, try that. Let us know how it goes.

Edit: jeffdogg, disconnect that power led wire, you don't really need it for now. I hope you are not talking about the square four-connector cable from the power supply? If it is, that you will need, if the MOBO is a P4 ATX MOBO.
