I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

So I turn my computer off one day only to find it wont start the next day. I open the case up and see the led is on. I flip the switch on the power supply off then on and quickly press the power button. My computer starts but the following time I shut down the computer it again wont start and now the led is blinking. I've never had any issues like this before, any help would be appreciated.

I don't routinely use many usb devices, only my mouse and keyboard and every now and then my ipod. I figure the issue is likely either the power supply or the motherboard. The ps is almost two years old while the motherboard is only about three months old.

Answer:Computer wont start, power supply wont start, blinking led

It sounds to me like your PSU is the problem, get a hold of another and plug it to your computer and see if that will make it start, if it doesn't it might be BOTH your motherboard and PSU. A bad PSU will burn a motherboard.

No matter what option i pick in the safe mode list, the computer will not start. when i choose any of the safe modes, (safe mode, safe mode with networking etc) the computer displays a list of random commands (i dont understand any of it) and then restarts. If I try to Start Windows Normally, or use last settings that worked, it seems to start loading, and then restarts.

Any ideas?

guys,

my computer wont boot and still it wont display.
i already changed a video card and stil it wont.
it have no beep at all and it will not display.

what should i do?

Answer:guys my computer wont start and wont have a display

does it beep any. if not this will indicate more major problems. (unless you dont have beep speaker installed) a mother board is programed with a set of beep to play if there is a problem like such as three beeps if the ram is not working, 1 long beep if the vid card is not working etc etc. I DO NOT KNOW WHAT YOUR BEEPs WILL BE. if you are not getting these then you need to find out why. see if you have a speaker inside your case. if you do and all of your fans spin but still no action from you pc then you may have a larger problem such as mother board or processor.

Nothing will load on my Compaq Presario 700 notebook. It wont even turn on in safe mode.
When I go to turn it on it sounds like the hard drive attempts to spin. I don't hear the fans, but all the lights come on. The battery is fairly new and everything is plugged in properly.
All this began when I was running Macromedia Dreamweaver MX and it locked up forcing me to shut down.
Any ideas?

I had this computer for almost 2 month now but recently seems to be acting a bit strange.

My specs are:

ASUS P5N-E SLI LGA 775 NVIDIA nForce 650i SLI ATX Intel Motherboard

EVGA 320-P2-N811-AR GeForce 8800GTS 320MB 320-bit GDDR3

Intel Core 2 Duo E6850 Conroe 3.0GHz 4M shared L2 Cache LGA 775

G.SKILL 2GB 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800

Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 (Perpendicular Recording) ST3500630AS 500GB 7200 RPM 16MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s

The problem with the computer started when i tried to restart it and it simply wouldnt boot everything seemed to work the fans were spinning in every component yet it wouldnt boot as in the beep sound when a computer starts didnt sound off. One part thats intresting is that the DVD-R drive light would keep blinking green like it is reading something and make sounds. After a while leaving it for about 15 minutes or so on the computer suddenly worked and I realized this when the mobo beeped signaling its coming to life.

This was 2 days ago now yesterday late at night i was running windows when it suddenyl got really slow and froze so i restarted it manually and bam the computer wont turn on. I took it down started looking at all the components making sure everything was alright and in place I even disconnected the DVD drive completely to see if it is the cause of the problem but to now avail it just wont turn on normally. So i left it on went to my PSP hijacked someones wireless and went online to check if this problem is comm... Read more

Answer:Computer just wont work(Wont start up)

Ok my computer worked and when it booted it listed these following problems:

1-Display switch is set incorrectly

2-CMOS checksum error

3-Override enabled

4-Keyboard error or no keyboard

5- this last one it gave it to me couple of times then stopped : Warning CPU

has changed!

After listing all this it says press F1 to continue or DEL to enter setup. When i enter setup since i flashed the mobo the date was reset when i try correct the date the area where it shows which day it is flickers quickly between tues and wed and when i try to input 2007 it goes to 2056. I removed every hardware piece by piece and rebuilt the whole bloody thing I cant tell whats wrong is it my CPU, Mobo, Harddrive or powersupply all these parts are brand new and been working fine for sometime now.

For the love of god someone out there send some help as this is getting hopeless. Sometimes it turns on if i leave it on for long time on time turned right away which was after i rebuilt the pc.

I posted this in the hardware section because i know its gotta be hardware related. On one of my older computers, which is a HP(bought in 2002), wont start at all. Not even the Compaq logo will display, which means BIOS wont start either. so i cant boot at all, or operate the computer in anyway. This happened right after i installed a gig of RAM, i was upgrading from 512 mb to 1 gig, they were 2 different cards, 512 each, and both had 189 pins. I installed them, booted up and nothing.

I really dint think there is a solution for this though, because after that, i put the 512 RAM back in and it still didnt work. Im thinking the motherboard was fried, by static electricity maybe. if thats the case than ill just get a new computer. which leads me to my next question.
How do i access my Harddrive? I have a lot of valuable data on there and an expensive music collection, as well as a bounch of backed up movies.
Any help is really appreciated guys, thanks in advance.

Well, today when I woke up I tried starting my computer, but it started making beeping noises and the light on the expansion bay started flashing. I looked up the problem, and found it it's beep code. The beeps my computer is making is as follows:
short, short, long
short, short, long
short, short, long
short, short, long
short, short, long

There is a one second interval in between each set. I went to the HP site and found this page: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?lc=en&dlc=en&cc=us&docname=bph07107#N1010 . However, I'm not sure if it applies to my BIOS or not. I have a HP Pavilion Media Center m8120n TV PC, 3GB RAM, Nvidia GeForce 7350 LE Graphics Card, and about 500GB of HDD space, and an Intel Core 2 Quad Processor Q6600.

I tried looking for the specific BIOS on my computer, but couldn't find it. So I can only assume what they say is my problem is what it actually is. Which is that my computer was "Unable to initialize video or video card required but not installed". This computer is about 4 years old, and I have never changed the card, and have not updated the drivers for several months. How can I fix this problem? I read on other forums where people where having problems with their RAM they had to try putting it into a different slot, however, I'm not sure if my computer has multiple PCI-E slots to do this. Furthermore, If I do have to do something similar, I have no means of grounding myself. Would it be okay if ... Read more

Answer:Computer makes beeping noises on start, computer wont run

Do you have any display at all?

If not, then it's probably certain that the beep code is correct; that your video chip needs butter (because it's toast).

Does it have a video card installed? If so, pull it, and see if you can get display through the native video output. If it is without a video card, go to a local shop, and see if they have on old one, compatible with your system, that you can use to test with. If it tests good, you probably need to buy a video card...

If your computer is disconnected, you can probably get away without any grounding strap. Nothing in life is guaranteed tho'.

Hello and helpI have a packard bell IMEDIA 1404 a couple of years old. It has been working fine with no error messages and is protected by Norton. I turned off after a sesssion last night and all ok. This morning when i turned on, instead of the blue flashing packard bell logo on the start button, it flashes yellow, and there is a red or orange flashing light. There is a clicking sound, dont think it beeps, but does not sound like disk spinning or fans running. Have tried turning on and off, disconnecting/reconnecting, checked all leads, is the only thing left to hit it with a large hammer, or is there hope, all my school work is on itplease help meNicco

If you checked all the connections and are sure everything is ok there i would first replace the power supplt since you say no fans ect.

my computer doesnt seem to work for some weird reason. the tower powers on but the hard drive doesnt spin or make any noise. all i hear are the fans working. i have two identical dell dimensions 2400 and was trying clean them out because of all the dust that formed on the inside. i one apart completely (removing motherboard, connections, memory, and psu) and for the other just removed the cables from their spots. i used a hair dryer to blow all the dust away and when i finished and reconnected all the wires and everything, both computers wont start up. it is completely non responsive. i tried using alternate psu and different monitors but no luck. please help me get atleast one to start working!

Did you put all the cables back in the right spots? And when you use a hair dryer, make sure the heat is off..

Yes it sure sounds like a problem with the graphics card. Is the graphics card integrated in the motherboard or on a separate card?If its a standalone graphics card check that it is seated properly in its slot.

Hi I have a Gateway Laptop running on Vista 32 bit and yesterday it just shut off while I was using it. When I turned it back on it only got to the Gateway please wait screen and stayed there. So I put in the operating disc and did the start up repair and well its been doing that for hours and I dont know if its actually doing anything. im not sure what I have to do, I recently backed up all my files so If i need to I can reformat it all but i dont even know how to do that.

Answer:Computer wont Start up

I'd say stop it

Let the computer cool down (30 mins or more)

Start the Vista setup again
This time remove old partitions
And do a clean install (This part is your choice - but is preferred option)

ok, heres the thing. this morning i got on the computer (xp home) from sleeping in half the day away and suddenly zone alarm starts bringing up all these new programs that want to acess the internet. and then avg starts saying i have a new virus, one after another.

so i run avg and adaware and take out like the 70ish new files. for some reason though avg didnt find anything (even though it told me about the new viruses) so then i desided to do some windows updates. after working around behind the constant "get sevice pack 2!" stuff (havent gotten it yet because ive been hearing nothing but bad news) i noticed that i missed about 8 important secrutity patches. so i install and update them and then it asks "would you like to restart your computer now?" i figured, "ok, everything seems to be fine now" so i clicked yes.

so my computer starts to restart and doesnt get very far (only to the intel processor screen) then i get "no signal" on the screen and it all starts over. and then it just keeps looping over and over.

the night before i didnt even do anything. i got off from playing final fantasy 11, and then started to work on some animations of mine. and then around 12 at night i went to bed... it was weird though because my comp didnt want to shut down right away like usual.

i would list the names of the viruses avg stated and the new programs that zone alarm mentioned, but it all kind of happened to fast. i tried s... Read more

most of the time your RAM is checked in the post screen after the CPU. If it cannot pass the ram tests then you may have lost some ram. Open her up and check all your connections and re-seat your cards and Ram. If you can get into the bios and check things out there. It could also be the processor or Mobo but usually you wont see anything. Since you freeze before anything boots it may not be the OS.

sometimes, it wont star and the reset button wont work.-- requires shutting it off at the back (power source) turning power supply back on, then the start button.

unless I hear that initial beep, I know it wont start. 99.9% of the time I don't get the beep and have to go through this procedure to start it.

ironically, everything has been replaced on it over the last 2 years.

ram
motherboard
cdrive
new additional hard drive
power supply
even the box has been replaced
video card etc

its only the very ODD time it will start first try. of course the shops fix for this is to simply start to replace stuff. now that everthing is replaced, it still doesn't work properly.

so then I tried changing the location in the house. that didn't make a difference either. I tried different circuits, changed the power bar/breaker, plugged it in directly without a power bar, changed the power cord several times.

I don't get it.

I also have a mac which is in the same room and it works fine (touch wood)

hi, my name is jim, I am new to this.I have several computers, but am not that knowledgable about them. Hear is my problem.  Several weeks ago i went to use a computer and found it turned off.  I usually leave them run.  I went to restart and when I hit the tower start button, the light cam on and the fan ran for about 2-3 seconds.  I keep trying, and finally it rebooted after about 30 tries.  since that time it has shut down again, due to power failure in our area.  It won't reboot.  I took the side off, cleaned everything, banged it, etc.  nothin works. it still attempts to start and then dies.  Any suggestions on what may be the problem. It is a german computer, medion, sold by Aldi.  It was purchased in 2002.Thanks for any suggestions you might give me.  I would like to try to fix it myself or at least get an idea of what is wrong before I take it to someone. Thanks Jim

Hello,

I have just bought a brand New 200 Dollar computer from Micro Center.
I've only had it for a week. I did not download ANY torrents, music or nothing...

When I turned it on this morning, I've experienced a continuous restart.

It takes me to windows start up options menu.

The options I receive are..

Start windows normally
Start windows in safe mode
Start windows in safe mode Networking Enabled
Start windows in safe mode command prompt

last known good configuration.

I tried all 5 of em. They did not do anything for me..
What should I do? Am I screwd out of 200 dollars? Or can I fix this??

Thanks for the help!

My friends computer wont boot up properly. The monitor screen stays black and the light stays on orange most of the time (I have changed the monitor to see if it is a monitor fault - no difference). Intermittantly, it may show a DOS screen that says "windows has successfully initialised this display adapter" - however, you can never get it to load windows (98). It just stays on the black screen. I have tried putting the boot disc in and it does not load. Can you please tell me what we must do to get the computer working again and what the problem is likely to be.

Answer:Computer wont start?

Try clearing the cmos first. Should be a jumper that you see on the board that says "clr cmos" move the jumper over for a bout thirty seconds and then move it back, turn aon the computer and see what happens

If not then

Take all the hard drive cables and cd cables of the board. Including any cards you may have (including video if onboard) then try it again.

Do any fans spin, are there any lights that are lit including your motherboard, are you plugged into a power suge protector? How old is this system?

Give us your system's hardware specs. If this a prebuilt system such as an HP or Dell, etc. then link us to your particular model.

Hey guys and girls, hope you are all well. I was wondering if any of you could help me out with a little bother i am having.
Basically, I bought a few pieces of kit to stick a computer together for my sister, and after having put all of it together, i'm having a boot problem.
The fans and hard drives come on, the lgreen light on the mobo comes on, but nothing comes on the monitor and no beeps from the speaker.

the set up is as follows :

amd xp 2400 (with retail fan)
asus a7v-400 mx mobo (built in gfx and sound)
256 meg pc2700 ddr
lg dvd drive
80 maxtor diamondmax

i have tried the memory and the processor in my own computer and they seem to work just fine.
i have also taken everything out the case and tried to start it up with just the memory and cpu + fan, but still get nothing.

So it is either a bust mobo, or i have set something wrong on the mobo. at the top right edge of the board is a blue box with some switches on it, for cpu external frequency selection, and i dont really know what that means.
there is a choice of 100mhz, 133, 166 and 200. I have left it as default 100, as well as changing between all the frequencies, however, i still get the same thing, no beeps, fans switch on, but nothing on monitor.
the motherboard also went through a crazy phaze where it would start up on its own if i switched the power on from the wall. has stopped that now though!

so would you guys suggest i just bin and get another motherboard?

Answer:New computer wont start up

Try a different power supply. Have you tried clearing the CMOS? If that doesnt work its probably the motherboard.

When i turn on my computer it takes me to the screen that says the computer couldn't turn on properly. It gives me the 3 options for safe mode, a start normally, and start before the problem started.

On any of those options that i choose, it gets to a blank screen (the one just before the login box pops up) and it freezes. It quits loading.
I tried hitting F8 to take me to the troubleshooting menu, but still, ALL the options provided have the same result, a blank screen.

Is there a way to fix this without losing all of my memory? If so, is it expensive?

Answer:Computer Wont Start

Sounds to me like something in your MBR (Master Boot Record) got jacked up. Your can try putting in your windows CD and see if it will let you boot onto it and use the repair option to try and fix the MBR from there, but there's no promise there.
Have you made any changes to the computer at all hardware or software wise before this starting happening?

so the night before this happened, i used my computer until i went to bed, turned it off and everything was fine...
the next morning, i pushed the power button, it turned on, but nothing was booting....
the monitor said "no input" or whatever but all the fans were running,
but there was no beeping and the LED in the front panel were solid.....
its been a while like i said, and i bought a new PSU (600W) and new ram (corsair 2x 2gb) and switched it out today
STILL DOESNT WORK

is this a problem with my graphics card or is something wrong with my mobo/CPU?

AMD Athlon 2800+ CPU
1 Gig Ram (2 sticks of 512)
Geforce 3 Chipset Motherboard

I am a BIG fan of Everquest 2. Last night I was playing the games and the game began to slow down and get jumpy. So I decided to quit the game and restart my computer.

When I did restart from windows, it quit to a black screen with a cursor blinking up in the upper left hand corner. So I scratched my head a few times and held the power button in and powered it down and turned it back on. It came up to that black bios screen where it show your system spec stuff and froze at the first line that read AMD ATHLON 2800+, usually it then auto detects my hardware and goes to boot into windows.

SO, I pulled out a few of my head hairs, because this is also my business computer and has ALL my documents I need on it. I tried a couple things I remmebred from back in my tech days and still got no further then it freezing at the same spot. Here is a list of what I did:

Disconnected IDE cables, restarted nothing...
Disconnected IDE Cables, replaced ram from a good computer, nothing...
I removed CMOS battery and unplugged from wall to reset bios..nothing
I changed the jumper to reset the bios nothing

Now since I reset the bios it doesnt see the AGP card, and uses the onboard video. And it comes up with a big "E" on the screen like the manufacturers emblem and says press F2 to goto BIOS, hitting F2 does nothing but excersize my finger muscles....

I eliminated everyt... Read more

Hello! Welcome to TechSpot!

What is the make and model of MoBo?
What is the make, model & wattage of your PSU?
What changes have you made, recently or prior to this trouble?

Try a different PSU, but this sounds more like MoBo
trouble. You may need a bios update.

Last night I decided to update my Nvidia drivers. I'm not exactly sure what happened, but when it prompted me to reboot my system, my system never came back up. After hitting the windows XP load screen it would just stay black (I let it stay there for four hours to make sure it wasn't just running slow)

So I then tried to re-install windows, which it allowed me to do, but once again when prompted to reboot after turning the system off and back on nothing but a black screen.

I decided to hook my main drive into my daughters computer to get data off of it before reformatting it completly. My daughters computer wouldn't even boot up with the thing plugged in, only telling me that there was a boot error. So I decided to give up on that drive, and just start from scratch with a clean 100GB drive I had laying around.

The first thing I noticed when I started my computer up was that the CPU fan was not running. The hard drives both seemed to be whirring away, and my video card fan was running fine. And in addition nothing would appear on my monitor.

So I unhooked all unnecesary components, and tried starting the thing up with just the motherboard, video card, and keyboard. Still nothing.

Any ideas?

Ok problem with a friends computer. when i switch it on it wont start up. some times when you press the power button the fans (Case and CPU) spin for about half a second then goes off again.

Other times the lights on the front of the case will light up all fans spin and the hard drives make some noise for a few seconds. Nothing happens with the monitor, just stays blank and dosnt come out of stanbby mode.No beeps, green light on the motherboard LED. After about 30-60 seconds the computer switches off.

The computer is about 1 year old and worked fine until now. Mother board is Asus A7VBX-MX SE not to sure what the processor is.

Any ideas

Hi, well before this happened I had defragmented my c folder and changed the virtual memory initial and maximum size, then went to play guild wars, as guild wars was on my computer instantly shut off, before this I have had problems while playing this game. there is nothing wrong with the wires or anything, when I replug the wire into the cpu it gets a charge big enough to turn 2 of the fans for a split second and then cuts off, to do this again I have to replug the coord. any suggestions on how to get it to turn on fully?

Just got done building a new computer buying the parts from tigerdirect Chumbo.com and Newegg.com.

After i assembled and when to turn it on nothing... Only thing that works is the LED status light. So i know the mobo is getting power. Realizing that it doesnt take much to power the LED (hell it stays on 20 seconds after you unplug it.)

One thing is the PSU is a 20 pin plug the Mobo is 24. Now i know that it 'should' run with the 20 pin plug. But i dont like should.

So either its the adapter problem. The PSU itself is shot. Or the mobo is junk.

Just help me out with some answers that would be apreciated.

Answer:Computer wont start

Also i checked that the power from the case is set corectly. I checked another 20 pin PSU in it and same results. It could very possibly be the adapter but im leaning more toward faulty mobo.

TigerDirect never see another penny from me if it is.

Hello there!

I was fiddling around on my computer this afternoon as I was trying to set up some visual styles. In order to do this, you have to patch some .dll files in System32 to get the visual styles to work. Upon patching them, I restart my computer and now it wont load past the Welcome Screen. A bunch of pop-ups come up, telling me that something is missing so I ended up turning my system off. I have a couple restore points on that computer that would be able to fix this problem but I can't figure out how to get it to run far enough so that I can get to the restore point settings.

Is there any work around or something for this? Maybe I can run the restore points from another computer (like the one I am on right now)?

Info wise, my computer is running on Rindows Vista 32bit with Service Pack 2 installed.

2 things you can do:

1) Check your Event Viewer for errors and post them here. Go to Start...Run... and type in "eventvwr.msc" (without the quotes) and press Enter. Then, click once on the word "System" in the left hand pane - then look for Errors (at about the time of the freezes). When you find them, right click on them and select "Properties". Then, let us know what it says and we'll work with that.

2) I'd try updating your video drivers (but this is just a pure shot in the dark!).

My computer was running slowly. Impatient, I took out the batter without shutting down and then re-started windows. Instead of booting up like it normally does after something like this, it went through some process where it tried to repair the system. In the process, a bunch of files were unreadable, and the computer deleted them. Now, it's like my computer simply does not have windows on it. When booting up, it still recognizes that it is a toshiba computer. After the boot fails, it takes me to the boot menu, where it appears that some of my settings are still saved. Is this a problem that can be solved by re-installing windows?

Answer:My computer wont start

Go into the bios ( setup ) & reset defaults.

Greetz to all.

My computer is not starting and im not sure what the reason is. It first started as a complete inability to power up, hiting the power button the computer didnt respond at all. I suspected the power unit so i bought a new one (550W as i have a ****load of HD-s and CD/DVDs inside) and replaced it. Now i get some response from the unit as the computer starts up for a short time (3-4 sec) bud then powers down again.

All the fans start up normaly (CPU fan, Casing fan, PU fan) and all looks normal but just wont stay on.

P.S. I get a very silent buzzing noise from the mainboard(i think). When i put my ear inside the comp i hear the buzzing but barely. Its kind of an ambulance melody (Tiii Naaa) but in a buzzing sound.

I removed all unneeded hardware (LAN/WLAN/Sound card), inserted another graphics card, inserted another ram module into a unused memory slot, and disconnected all HD/CD/DVD except the boot HD(tried another HD also), so im guessing its none of the above.

Any ideas what it could be, and what i can do to fix it?

Thx in advance.

Hello, recently i opened my computer to clean it all due to it crashing constantly because (i think) it overheating and dust collecting up. After i was finished with cleaning every part i put them all back into the correct places and did not change anything. When everything was in place i turned on the power supply and pressed the button and the computer would not start at all, not even a sign of power.

I did notice a very silent biiiiip which sounded like a fan spinning really fast siliently which i thought was coming from the power supply so i took it out and tryed it with another computer and it worked fine without the sound. Only when i connected it up to my motherboard i start to hear the silent fan-biiip sound. I am still not sure if the sound is coming from the motherboard or the power supply making the sound because of the motherboard. I beleive it can only be the motherboard failing because of something.

I still havent been to my local PC shop to see if they can find an issue that i missed but till then i will try and find some help here.

Please help, and thank you for replying.

Does it power up at all (ie are there any power lights)
Is there any message on screen (ie cannot find HardDrive)

I would remove all connections internally again
Also you want to remove any plugged in PCI cards
Reconnect all internal connections
Confirm that all connectors are securely connected (this is probably the problem)
Push the power cord in securely
Turn back on

Hi guys, need your help, this is my first build (bought a barebones before and added everything video card, ram ect.)this time I deciede to start from scratch. My problem is it wont start, the mobo has a light which tells me that it has power but the processor fan will not spin ( it is connected to the right place) the ram has a light too but it is not on (ram works tested on my other system), all the conncetors are correctly connected, one question though are both power conncetors supposed to be connected the +12v and the long connector (don't know what it is called) any help on troubleshooting would be appreciated. Also am I supposed to do something with the jumpers ( the quick start guide mentions something about clearing CMOS data and CPU's and FSB select on the jumpers section or am I supposed to leave it the way it came out of the box)???

Here are my specs:

AMD 2800+barton

Answer:My computer wont start

Do you get a black screen on boot up?

There is a chance that if you copy your original ROM onto a floppy disk and insert it upon boot up that it will read this file. Also, if it is an old PC, try an ISA graphics card. Some motherboards have a floppy failsafe, and will display some text on an old ISA graphics card (only with quite old PCs mind you).

You may have to a) Get a new BIOS chip from the motherboard manufacturer or b) Get a new motherboard

Well my brother recently invested in a custom made gaming computer. It is custom made, so I don't really know the specs. It's been working great for about 3/4 of a year now, but a couple days ago, completely out of the blue, it stopped working.

It was shut off, and then when he tried to start it, it loaded up to the startup page with the big Gateway logo on it, and the little options that say BIOS OPTIONS and SETTINGS. From here, nothing happens. We have left it on for hours, and it simply wont continue starting up. We have tried pressing F8, F10, F12, all those things for Safe mode and such, but none work. As far as we know, the only option would be to format the computer, which he would rather not do.

What can we do to fix this problem?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
G-ram

Prequal: I had a computer with a 478 Celeron 2.0. It stopped working and I didnt know what the problem was. I put in a different processor (dad's 2.6 Celeron) and it stilll didnt work. So the 2.0 Celeron is still working. I eventually fixed the computer.

The problem: My dad's computer stopped working and I dont know why. The CPU fan wont even spin. I replaced the 2.6 with the 2.0 from above (fan replaced too) and it still doesnt work. I unpluged everything from the mobo including RAM and left only the power supply plugs and the front panel connectors connected. It silll doesn't turn on. I also replaced the PSU, no luck. The HDD LED flickers really fast when the PSU is plugged into the wall socket, so I am pretty sure the PSU is fine. I am assumming from all this that the mobo is the problem.

Would you guys agree?
Is there another thing that my be wrong with it if it's not the mobo?

says corrupt file followed by<windows root>\system32\hal.dll
we tried to put windows cd in to fix problem but it wont work any help please

Answer:Computer Wont Start

You need to boot from the Windows cd and the boot order in the bios must have the cd first. From Fred Langa:Enter The Recovery ConsoleThe safest, surest way to resolve problems such as "Missing or corrupt HAL.DLL," "Invalid Boot.Ini," or "Windows could not start..." is to boot the PC from an XP Setup CD and use the pristine, uncorrupted files and tools there to effect repairs. The one catch is that if your setup CD is significantly older than your current Windows version, you may have file compatibility problems. For example, you can hit snags if you use an original or SP1 XP Setup CD to try to repair an XP SP2 installation. You'll get a message to the effect that the version you're trying to upgrade is newer than the version on the CD.The solution here is to use a "slipstreamed" setup CD, which adds the newer files to your original setup CD. This kind of updated setup CD can be used on just about any XP installation. It's a good idea to have an up-to-date, slipstreamed setup CD available in any case, as it simplifies all future installs and CD-based repairs.Once you have a startup CD with the same version of system files as the PC you're working on, configure your PC to boot from CD if it isn't already set up that way. (You may need to enter the BIOS setup tool to configure the PC to boot from the CD.)Start your PC with the XP Setup CD in the drive. When you see the "Press any key to boot from CD..." prompt... Hi,
I have had a strange problem lately as if i plug off my pc it wont start again unless if i leave it plugged in for a few hours but last night i changed the casing and it just wont wakeup.
There is a green light on the motherboard which keeps blinking and i have to wait untill its not blinking anymore. I have no idea if it is my Asus P5ad2e premium motherboard or my Bzerk 500 watts power supply which is doing these tricks.
PS: The green light is still ticking.

Answer:Computer wont start.

You made sure that you put the motherboard on top of the brass spacers right?

Hello all! The other day I transferred all my settings from a dell 2400 p4 to a new 4700c p4 system. The 2400 worked fine until I pulled it out of the desk and put it on my bench to reformat it and nothing starts on it. No fans, no hdd, no lights, nothing. Tried new psu, new hdd, new mobo, ram and optical drives all from another new 2400 p4 system. Is it possible that the cpu is fried. Will that cause the whole system to crash completely, nothing but the green mobo light is on in the case. Any help greatly appreciated.

Answer:COMPUTER WONT START

It is more likely a loose cable or loose hardware component. Have you reseated and reconnected everything?

Just bought a new computer and I put it together last night.
I was extremly causious and used ESD gloves during the hole process so I know that it all went smoothly. Ive done this before so.
But when I tried to start it I dont get into BIOS. Everything starts and the screen detects a signal but it doesnt get further. No picture or bios or anything.
Dont even get those error beeps that are supposed to sound if something is wrong....

I cleared the CMOS by removing the battery as said in the manual.
Nothing happend...

Hello everybody reading this thread,
First of all i would like to thank you for taking the time to read this. I just got done building my new computer the specs are as follows.

motherboard- intel d915gevl
processor- intel pentium 4 530j 3.0ghz
memory-1 gig ddr2 533 ram
os- windows xp (if i can ever get the computer started lol)
hard drive- 80 gig maxtor diamondmax 10 sata drive
case- kingwin mutant x gaming case with a 420 watt psu
(i dont really know what other info you need)

well here it is in a nut shell, i've built computers before, never really went for the gaming case thing, i usually just stick to the average case but i wanted to do something different this time, everything is hooked up ,the little green led is lit where you hook the psu into the motherboard, i press power, nothing happens, i hold it in for 4 seconds then let go it makes a kind of hissing noise, it only lasts for a second not even. i unhooked everything and hooked it back up numerous times its still the same thing, there is one weird thing i have noticed for my fp header on the mother board i have the usual pwr sw, hdd led, reset sw, but instead of our usual pwr led, they turned it into a molex connector. i dont know if that is the problem, i've trouble shooted my **** off lol, i've tried to get a hold of kingwin because when i recieved the case there was no book paper work or nothing just a reciept. well i have e-mailed them so many times, the first time i waited a wee... Hi jeffdogg, sorry to hear you are having problems, I hate it when that happens. The first thing I would suspect, is the power supply. If you have an extra power supply, try that. Let us know how it goes.

Edit: jeffdogg, disconnect that power led wire, you don't really need it for now. I hope you are not talking about the square four-connector cable from the power supply? If it is, that you will need, if the MOBO is a P4 ATX MOBO.

I installed windows SP2 yesterday and when the computer restarted it keeps coming up with a blue screen. It says that the bios might be out of date, software/hardware may have caused a problem etc. I tried going into safe mode but it comes up with another blue screen that says a file is missing, 'windowssrv'. I also pressed f10 and it goes into a restore and repair menu from Mesh (as my pc is a mesh). But i cant restore it and it would let me repair windows files. Also ive tried using the mesh recovery cd but when its trying to install windows it says it cant find my sata harddrive. PLEASE HELP ME. Thanks in advance.

I have a HP computer that wont start up. I get to the blue startup screen that says hp pavilion, then that goes away (like normal) but then the computer restarts. I hit F8 when it started (to try to start in safe mode) and got the windows advanced options screen. I then selected safe mod, then i selected Windows xp home edition then hit enter. The computer restarted. So from this I believe it restarts when it tries to load windows. Ive also tried to go to the option in windows advanced options that says "restore the computer to an earlier time" (or something like that) but it restarts. Any sugestions? I really dont want to use my D: partition (total system restore) so I'm leaving that as a last resort. Any help would be greatly apreciated.

Help anyone!!! My computer will not start, it is stating that the Windows/system32/config/system is corrupt!! I got this computer from another person and it did not have a recovery disk with it!! I have tried everything that I have found online. But when I try to boot from an Xp disk, it states that the file is not valid, when I run a Chkdsk, it says that there is a bad sector that can not be repaired. So I am at my wits end, and don't know what to do!!!

Since the computer is a newer version than I am used to working on, I can't add it as a slave and try to repair it that way! SOME ONE PLEASE HELP ME!!!!

Answer:My computer wont start!!!

"Windows/system32/config/system is corrupt"The only way I have every managed to fix that problem is by reinstalling XP & I've probably tried every fix found using Google & Ask." when I run a Chkdsk, it says that there is a bad sector that can not be repaired."Boot a XP disk, delete the XP Pratition & try formatting the drive. If it can be fixed the drive will format & XP will install. If the drive won't format it will have to be replaced.

Ok,So I've just put together a new PCSpeclist is...FX55 Athlon1 x 1GB RAMABit AV8 3rd Eye MotherboardAntec 480Wt Truepower PSUGeForce 4M Audio 192 CardCDRWOk, I have connected things to the best of my ability. Apon powering up, all internal LEDs light, CPU fan spins, a couple of seconds pass, then as the HD spins up, the machine switches itself off.Im guessing towards mis-wiring on my part. One main concern of mine lies with the PSU motherboard power. Its one of the new ATX ones with two plugs, a 20 pin and then a seperate 4 pin. At the moment the 20 pin connects fine, but the 4 pin I had to leave redundant as the plastic moulding is the complete opposite of what's required to fit in the connector (square pins at reversed corners - weird)This is the only obvious flaw which comes to mind - any ideas?

Answer:new computer wont start up!

Well if the 4 pin power plug isn't plugged in then it's going nowhere.

Hi -

You need to boot up the system with your HP Vista recovery DVD. If you did not burn one, you can obtain replacements from HP for about $30 -

I have noticed over the past months that my computer, after i completely unplug it and take it to a friends house or to my parents house (3 hours away) and i reassemble it, it doesnt start up at all. Monitor doesnt read a signal (ive tried different monitors on start up to see if that helped). At first i could let it sit off for about 10-15 minutes and it would start up no problem, maybe took a lil longer but still worked. Now lately it has taken even longer for it to even detect a signal on the monitor and when it does and i run say League of Legends or anything it seems to shut down. Could something be overheating? I had an issue with not having a big enough power supply but when i found out i bought a significantly  better one. Here is a link to my components. (ill post the wattage of my newer powersupply, i kinda didnt save the link and dont know it off the top of my head, my friend does tho lolol) It is a bit of an old pc but it runs like a beast for what ive always needed up until this happened!!!

I was in the middle of playing a game when my computer just shut off. I wasnt doing anything I normally do that should make this happen. I then tried to turn in back on but nothing happened. I felt the power supply and it felt hotter then normal. The only think on my computer that is working is the LED light on my mobo. Nothing at all happens when I push the button to turn the computer on. Does anyone know what is going on? Did I blow the power supply?

Answer:Computer wont start up

I've had this problem before when I overclocked it. Did you try turning it off at the power supply for 5 minutes or so?

Hi guys found this site and im hoping i can get some help to fix my computer.

I have a dell Amd , Windows Vista Home Basic

I dont know what the **** i did! but my computer wont load properly. After the loading screen it goes black for about a 40 seconds and then to a a blue error screen then restarts it self. The only way for me to get to windows is if i load it in safe mode!

How can i trouble shoot this , find out what the problem is...

Please anyone who can help , ill be very great full thank u

Answer:Help computer wont start !!

Are you able to write down what the error screen says? What is the reference code? Do it reference a drive rname?

My first guess is either a hard drive issue or a driver issue since it loads okay in safemode.

Next time you're in safemode try scheduling a scandisk on your hard drive to scan for and automatically repair file system errors.
