what is the problem with "find" (not found as command)

Question: what is the problem with "find" (not found as command)

Hello, my first post. Searched for the topic but could find no reference.

I experience the following problem: "GoogleCloudSDKInstaller.exe" exits without completing the installation, details say: <"find" not recognized as internal or external command>

I searched in my laptop and found the following situation:

A) "find.exe" exists, where i should be and works (if invoked with path)

C:\Users\ro>ls C:\WINDOWS\system32\find.exe'
C:\WINDOWS\system32\find.exe'

C:\Users\ro>C:\WINDOWS\system32\find.exe
FIND: formato del parametro non corretto

B) "find" works just the same

C:\Users\ro>ls
C:\WINDOWS\system32\find'

C:\WINDOWS\system32\find'
C:\Users\ro>C:\WINDOWS\system32\findFIND: formato del parametro non corretto

C) THE COMMAND ACTUALLY DOESN'T WORK! (when invoked without path!)
though the path is included in the PATH= system variable

C:\Users\ro>find
"find" non ? riconosciuto come comando interno o esterno, un programma eseguibile o un file batch.

C:\Users\ro>path
PATH=C:\ProgramData\Oracle\Java\javapath; C:\Program Files (x86)\Intel\iCLS Client\; C:\Program Files\Intel\iCLS Client\; C:\WINDOWS\system32; .....omissis....

Questions:
1 - how is it possible that an external command, on the path, is not found?
2 - is there a way to make things work properly?

Many thanks, rs

Preferred Solution: what is the problem with "find" (not found as command)

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hello,

I have basic knowledge of the command terminal, in that I only know how to navigate through directories. Currently I am trying to execute the following:

java ?jar MRTBatch.jar ?d input_directory ?p parameter_directory\input_parameter_file ?o parameter_file_directory

I have already navigated to the correct directory to make use of the MRTBatch.jar tool, however the problem arises with my user inputs, which are of the form "C:\Users\My Name\Rest of path". I keep getting the error:

ERROR: Could not find directory "C:\Users\My Name".

When navigating directories earlier I always had to go find the file I wanted, copy its path location, paste it into the command terminal, and then erase the "C:\" portion (so it became cd\Users\My Name\Rest of path) for it to work. So when I got this error I have tried multiple edits for it to recognize the paths. Could it be as simple as switching the direction of the slashes? I would have thought the complete path name would always be best. Is it because I'm already burrowed down so far that it cant seem to recognize any file further back?

Here are the directions I am following, pg 40 titles "Automated Batch Processing": https://lpdaac.usgs.gov/sites/default/files/public/mrt41_usermanual_032811.pdf
My goal is to mosaic a bunch of satellite imagery using the MODIS Reprojection Tool (MRT).

Thank you for the help!

Answer:Command Prompt Error: "Cannot find directory "C:\Users\..."

Web site URLs use the forward slash / while path statements in the OS use the backslash \.

Your problem just may be that it needs to start from the root of the drive or C:\. If it starts at the standard Command Prompt it will already be looking below/inside C:\Users\your name\.

Hello, TSG!

Just yesterday I was using the computer normally until I got a Blue Screen. Getting a blue screen is usually something normal that occurs to my every so often, so I didn't mind it and rebooted the computer normally. However, I got two more blue screens within the next hour. The 3rd time rebooting, my computer starts to act strange as if it had a virus. Upon powering up the monitor would just display a black screen with two lines about something --- which I don't remember, sorry --- and stayed like that unless I plugged out the power cord or held on the power button to shut down. Then when after a few tries it boots and displays a message "Floppy Disk Failure" and "Drive 1 not found: Serial ATA, SATA-1" (and the same message for Drives 2 and 3) show up. Also it asks me to continue loading by pressing the F1 Key.

When Windows loads the first time, it displays a message saying a bunch of hardware has just been installed and ready for use. Also, my internal clock resetted itself back to Monday, November 07, 2005 (Which, if I recall, is the date when I got the computer) and my speakers do not work.

TL;DR Version
3 blue screens within a short time
Floppy disk fail
Drivers 1-3 not found: Serial ATA, SATA-1-3

Anyway, I browsed through Google but I haven't seen anyone with both problems. I disabled my Floppy Disk Drive and that message doesn't show up anymore, but the others do and my computer still isn't fixed. I ran a vir... Read more

Hey guys. I'm sorry if this has been posted before but I searched and didn't find any sort of problem like the one I'm having anywhere on the web. So here goes..

My laptop will not find any networks in the house. My tablet, my phone, other peoples laptops find the network and are able to connect to the home wifi just fine. I've tried almost everything but my laptop will not pick up the wifi signal at all. I am not too far away from the router as it is in the next room. My laptop finds and connects to other wifi networks when they are around without any issue. I've connected an Ethernet cable from the router AND the modem directly to the laptop and it connects to the internet perfectly. My sister has the exact same router as I do in her home and it picks up the wifi signal fine. So I don't think it has to do with the router. I've honestly looked everywhere guys and haven't came across an issue like this.. please help.

Because I have such big spreadsheets, with a lot of text, and numbers, I find it really hard to see where the "found" cell is.

Hello everyone! I really need your help! I tried to recover files from my external  2 tb drive that I accidentally unplugged from my computer while the computer was scanning it. Recuva found every file that was missing. Those files also had the green dot next to them, showing they should be easily restored. The thing is, when I press restore, it restores files for 15 minutes, but only a portion of my files. The rest of files that weren't able to be retrieved, are then listed with " the system cannot find the file specified." next to each file. I'm so close to retrieving my data. Please tell me what I need to do to fix this error and get my files back. Thank you so much in advance!

Answer:Recuva found all my files, but " the system cannot find the file specified".

Lexx, With the understanding that you are new to the forums i am going to try once more to shine a light on the process that is likely to serve you the best when posting on forums.Once a forum subject has been created stay within that one post and do NOT create additional ones on the same subject. It  will only cause confusion. I bring this up again because this new post relates directly to your April 20th post in the windows xp forum. Those that were attempting to assist you there do know the issue of your file recovery from your external was still unresolved. Also it  is not good forum practice to PM members directly that were trying to help you within a post. Many  people use the process of the public thread on a given subject to advance their own knowledge or to solve similar problems they may have. Also when members are seeking answers to their issues they may do a search on the forum to see if the issue has been dealt with. If the resolution or progress of an issue is taken into the PM route then all these benefits are lost or reduced. Now to your issue.Obviously as i indicated you have tried Recuva as an option to try and gain recovery of your files. However your result with it is similar to mine though an indication of recoverable files was stated in fact with that same program all the files it "found" were corrupted and non recoverable. You can still try with other programs that were contained in my link but personally i doubt you will have m... Read more

Hi!! I've found another interesting bug fix!! I'm surprised i found no other useful material on this error on the internet, when it seems to be a fairly common and annoying error, but here goes:

C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\WER\ReportQueue\Report[any random number here]

In order to recognise which tmp file you should look into, you need to know the CATALOGUE number of the driver you wish to install.

[Guide to finding out the catalogue no.:
Inside of the place where you have your driver setup files (cd, floppy, wherever), locate the .cat file. It should have an icon with several sheets of paper bound with a strip of tape. Windows uses the catalogue file name as the tmp file name. So search through the folders in the above mentioned directory until you find the one with a tmp file by the name of the catalogue file you’ve located in the steps above]

In here you should find a .tmp file. There will be about 4 files, give or take. Open the .tmp file.

This is the file that will give the REAL solution to your problem:

In this file, windows logs its actions while installing the drivers.

Now here's the magic: Windows cannot find the file specified? Cos Either Windows or your Conexant driver witers is stupid. Either way, if you scroll down to the bottom of this file, and read the last 20 lines or so, you'll realize that windows was actually looking for the file that was missing in a valid folder, but the files weren’t there.

In my case, the folder was:... Read more

I had some trouble with one of my harddisks, after I connected it via a USB hub. When I disconnected it and put it back in later on, checkdisk told me I had a corrupted file and proposed a scan. After scanning, it told me that it had created a found file somewhere. I didnt find it, but since nothing was missing, I didn?t think about it any further. A couple of days later, the same thing happened again, but this time most of my files were gone. I searched everywhere for the "found"files, but there are nowhere to be seen. Anyone got an idea where they went?

Answer:How do I find "found"files created by CHKDSK?

Welcome Zeraphyne to the windows 7 forums.

You might not be seeing the "found" files because they are listed as system files.

You need to go to Control panel and look in folder options. select the view tab and then unselect the hide options on system and hidden files. while your at it I receommend unchecking them all so that you can see all files and files extensions.
normally chkdsk puts the found files in the root directory of your drive.

Brand new external HDD, Western Digital My Book 1230 4TB, 1 week old now. When transferring files from the HDD as well as when renaming or deleting them, I get the error message:

"Item not Found; Could not find this item; This is no longer located in F:\music\[file name]. Verify the item's location and try again.",

while when transferring files to the HDD from any other location other than the drive, I get a similar:

"Item not Found; Could not find this item; This is no longer located in F:\. Verify the item's location and try again.".

The files on the drive are audio files and they cannot be played, as I get an error message: "File reading failed: could not open file "[directory]"; Your input can't be opened: [directory]"
Uninstalling the HDD's drivers through device manager, restarting the computer and then letting them reinstall seems to temporarily fix the problem, which is how I got some files onto the drive in the first place, but it always seems to come back after another reboot or occasionally during use.

I have tried using other external HDDs and they function perfectly well on my PC, and I have tested the WD My Book drive on a different PC and it doesn't seem to run into any errors over longer periods of use, even after multiple restarts of the secondary PC.

I'm running Windows 7 Ultimate SP1 64-bit on both PCs.

This seems to me like a fairly simple issue to solve, but I haven't qui... Read more

I bought a refurbished Dell Optiplex 780 running windows 7 a few days back, was running fine until this morning where I woke up to see the error along the lines of "SATA 1 not found" which is strange as the computer was on sleep mode overnight with no background operations. Tried restarting it several times to receive the message "Boot drive unavailable", looking in the boot menu the drive ID shows on the SATA 1 port. I can't get into safe mode either. Is there anything that can be done or is the drive somehow corrupted? Any help would be appreciated

Answer:"Boot device not found", "SATA 1 not found" on startup??

You may want to check your hard drive to see if it is not disconnected.
If you still get the errors that means your HDD needs to be replaced.

My pc is a Hp 533w, 60gb, 256 Ram, Hard drive interface: EIDE (ATA-not SATA) Intel Celeron Processer with 2 GHZ processer speed, BUS speed 400 Mhz.

So, I tried reinstalling Windows XP and it then says "No Hard Drive found". (which is why in the 1st place I thought my old hard drive was bad) I installed a new hard drive but got the same messages as with the old hard drive. I called HP support 3 times and this is what they have had me do.
1. Unplugged and replugged all cables and hard drive to insure a good connection. Made sure there were not discs or floppies in the drives. Made drive the "Master" drive.
2. Went into the BIOS and changed the boot to CD drive to the first.
3. installed the "Windows XP home Edition utility" - 6 floppy discs - and formated the hard drive. Inserted the 1st of the XP installations discs and it worked for a while then got to where it kept saying this file couldn't be copied, that file couldn't be copied etc. So, had to stop there as it wouldn't do anything else.
Now when I boot up, I am back to where I started - NO OPERATING SYSTEM FOUND and when I put in the Windows XP recovery disc - NO HARD DRIVE FOUND.

So I updated to the CU over a week ago, and I noticed an odd change. The "Open command prompt here" option in the shift+right-click context menu has been replaced by "Open Windows Powershell here" instead. Powershell does not work with the apps I use (for example, an RPA extractor, Powershell just gives an error). How do I revert this change?

Answer:Context menu now has "Powershell" instead of "Command Prompt"

It's changed from Command Prompt to Powershell on a right-click on Start too. There's a switch for 'replace Command Prompt with Windows Powershell...' in:
Settings > Personalization > Taskbar

The switch has always been there, the default setting changed for the Creators Update. Unfortunately it doesn't seem to change the context menu.

Answer:*RESOLVED* Media Center "Tuner Not Found" error, "Receiver service has stopped"

Okay, I resolved the first two issues, Tuner error and ehrecvr error. It had to do with multiple Admin user accounts on my computer. My computer was originally set up with a user Robert Baker with full privileges as administrator. I then also set up a MediaCenter account with full privilidges. For whatever reason the MediaCenter account has access to EVERY action on the computer except starting the ehrecvr service.1.  First set Media Center Service Launcher to log on at NT Authority    Services > Right-Click Windows Media Center Service Launcher > Properties > Log On tab > Log On As 'This account: ' > Type " NT AUTHORITY/LocalService " > Click Apply > General tab > Start service.2. I then set the Media Center Scheduler Service AND Media Center Receiver Service to log on as my other admin account. Same as above but with other account credentials and started the services.3. Reboot and no ehrecvr errors. Since this was a good sign I tried WMC and was able to set up my TV fine.I STILL, however, get the "Upgrade in progress" message when I open Media Center. Anyone know how to fix that? I've run setup again and can't get rid of it.

I had to buy a new (SSD) HD and had trouble booting from a disc until I enabled Legacy Mode and disabled Secure Boot in BIOS. Now whenever I boot up I get a "No Boot Device Found" message until I hit "Enter" at which point i'm allowed entry into my precious Win10 laptop.

Boot orders in both UEFI and Legacy are the same, with DVD Rom set to boot first. (Also, the settings for IPV4 and IPV6 are set to IPV4 (Legacy) when they were before set to BOTH IPV4 AND 6 and are unable to be changed, if that's important.)

I disabled Legacy in BIOS, but then i get a different "No Boot Device Found" error, and hitting "Enter" doesn't help.

Could some kind person tell me how to correct this, and possibly why it happened and the differences in each option?

I'll settle for how to correct this, though, with much gratitude.

VERY MUCH gratitude.

GN

Answer:"Boot Device Not Found" - but hitting "Enter" afterward PC boots fine

Boot into Setup (Bios) go to the Security Tab, Disable Legacy Mode and Enable UEFI Bios. Also Enable Secure Boot.
Go to Integrated Peripherals and look for Hard Drive mode, or SATA. Set the SSD for AHCI mode and not Legacy or IDE. Go to the Boot tab, Move SSD to First UEFI Boot Device. Save and Exit.

Seeing as how Microsoft doesn't tell you where to find any of the files they listed, I'll see if I can get any help here.I have an extremely old Windows 98 IBM Thinkpad 600 laptop. (It pretty much stopped working after a 192 error message, but that's another story.)Windows 98 started to have these problems when I booted it up:Every 5 minutes Explorer had an "Illeagle Operation"Whenever I used Windows Explorer (to look at folders) it would remain blank and not display anything. So now I am going to try and reinstall Windows 98, since I don't have anything to loose on the laptop. So here I am in MS - DOS mode, and I'm trying to access the CD ROM drive in my laptop. I know that the drive letter should be D:, but when I type that in, MD DOS always replies, "Invalid Drive specification". I even tried what someone had reccomended earlyer by going one letter down to E:, but that still didn't work.So if anyone has any answers to this problem, that would be greatly appreciated. (Not to get off topic, but if anyone can explain why I keep getting a 192 error when booting up my laptop, that would be great.)P.S. I can only use one drive at a time; floppy or CD. I have to shut down my laptop and insert the drive to be able to use it.Thanks in Advance!

The full error reads: There was a problem sending the command to the program.
This is actually an older Excel problem that appears to have returned with my upgrading to Windows 10.
This error is presented whenever I try to open any excel file (tried .xls .xlsm .xlsx) by double clicking on it and right clicking and selecting "Open".
I can open Excel by itself and go to FILE->Open and all the files open just fine that way.
I've tried all of the following:
Disable all COM and Excel add-insDisable hardware accelerationCheck "Ignore other applications that use Dynamic Data Exchange (DDE)", close excel, try to re-open file, accept error then go back and uncheck "Ignore other applications...", close excel again, try to re-open files againGo to registry HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Excel.Sheet.12\shell\Open and backup/export then delete ddeexec

Answer:Excel error when opening documents "problem sending the command..."

Thanks to the marked solution from the site below, I was able to get things working again.
Windows 7 - Cannot run multiple instances of excel using option

The site says to check the DDE option in Excel first. I found that it doesn't matter whether you do this or not. Having the box checked or unchecked appears to have no effect on anything for me. (I ended up leaving it unchecked because that appears to be the consensus of the state it "should" be in on most sites I found)

So the solution for me ended up being sort of a combination of two of the methods I had tried before:
In the registry editor (win+r then type regedit) go to the following location:
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Excel.Sheet.12\shell\OpenBackup before you change by right clicking on "Open" and selecting "export"Either delete or rename "ddeexec"
(renaming to ddeexecOLD or ddeexecBAK helps you remember that you changed something in the registry if you ever have to come back to this location again)Select "command" then modify the "(Default)" entry by replacing /dde at the end of the string with "%1" (with the quotes and a space before the "%1").
Changing /dde to /e appears to have no effect, all that was needed was the "%1" at the end. Repeat the above process replacing Excel.Sheet.12 with any/all of the following that are applicable to you:

Hello again with another unique problem, Microsoft Office 2007 was re-installed in May. I had recently installed another Hard Drive, & moved all documents, picture, & music file's to the D: Drive, leaving the C: Drive with the Win 7, downloads, & program files. Now I find I can't open an older document file with word. I get there error "There was a problem sending the command to the program" in Windows 10.

A blank word page opens, but does not display the document I selected. I must then select the "open" option, after clicking the "Home" button and search for the document I needed. Then that document opens.

I'm thinking since Office lives on the C: Drive and my documents are on the D: Drive that may be where the problem is.

If so how do fix this? Please with any replies be detailed, as I have history of being my own worst enemy with trying to fix things.

Thanks

Hi,

I am using Windows 7. I'm getting a "there was problem sending a command to the program" error in Firefox 3.6. It stays for a few second then the error msg disappears. I thought updating it would fix the problem, it hasn't. I get this error not when I open the main Firefox.exe module but when I open the shortcuts I have to certain sites on my desktop, like mail, mapquest, telephone, Google, etc. I have replaced the shortcuts but no joy.

What should I do? I tried contacting Mozilla Ezine about this but I couldn't log in.

That dxdiag "no sound card" message is misleading as I've found it says that if no driver OR sound card. I think you're missing the right driver

Also, it would seem from your post you have High Definition (HD) audio. Which means you'll need to find the right High Definition audio driver. (AC97 pre-dates HD audio so the Realtek AC97 couldn't be right)

Try starting on the HP support website HERE and enter your model number or they have a button where they'll try to identify your product and drivers for your model. They should list an HD audio driver there

when i try to open my yahoo messenger account or a html doc. i get this pop up message: "there was a problem sending a command line to program". any suggestions? thanks

Answer:"there was a problem sending a command line to program"

Try booting to Safe Mode with Networking, see how things behave.

If the problem goes away then something is starting at boot time that is causing the problem, or a Internet Explorer Add-on is causing the problem.

Boot normally, then start IE without Add-ons.

Click on Start, type iexplore -extoff and press Enter.

You will get an IE window like this:

Click on Home to go to your normal Home page. See how things are. If okay then use Tools / Manage Add-ons to disable them a few at a time till you find the culprit.

If that doesn't make any difference then Use msconfig to determine what is causing the problem

This is a good tutorial on using msconfig in Windows 7:
How to use msconfig in Windows 7

Click on Start, type msconfig and press Enter.
Click on the Startup tab, record what is currently starting then click the Disable All button.
Reboot and see if it runs better.
If yes then use msconfig to enable several items at a time till you find the culprit.

If no, start msconfig and click on the Services tab.
Check the Hide All Microsoft Services box, record what is currently starting then click the Disable All button.
Again, do a regular boot, see if it runs normal.
If yes then use msconfig to enable services till you find the culprit.

Once you've found the culprit, uninstall it or find out how to eliminate it from your system. Simply disabling it in msconfig is a temporary fix at best.

Enable everything else you disabled.

Reading around there seem to be many issues with users and Office XP with Windows 7. Some of it comes from not removing the Office 2007 or 2010 trial install and the rest are folks who just found them incompatible in spite of the fact Microsoft says they are compatible.

This is a resurection of an old unresolved Vista Post, and it also happens in Windows 7.
====================================
Original subject - Start Menu - program search issue
I use Windows Mail for my daily email tasks, and would like to be able to
open the program by using the vista search bar built into the start menu. The
problem is, when i search for "mai" it brings up Windows Mail, and I can hit
enter and load the program. However, when I search for "mail", it returns:
"No items match your search." I have it set to index both the start menu and
my programs directory, and have even tried to rebuild the index.

It seems kind of strange that Vista would recognize that when I type "mai" I
want my mail programs, but when I actually type "mail", it gets confused...
and this in turn has -me- confused.

When i try to again take the the backup using windows 7 backup & restore option, its still shows 35 Gb of System Image in drive F: when i brows the Manage Disc Space option but i cant find it on the same drive. (Plz see attached pic)
Plz help me to locate this and delete the same.

Thanks

Answer:Cant find "System Image" of 36 GB but its shows on "Manage Disc Space"

Hello sattyaji, and welcome to Seven Forums.

It may still be showing if the system image was created as part of a Windows backup. Using the tutorial below to reset Windows Backup should clear it for you, but you will need to set up your backup again afterwards.

I have upgraded 5 machines and clean installed 3 machines.

Experienced an issue with one machine with continuous corruption problems

After the 3rd attempt I discovered that even with a Clean Install of Win 10 I get unrepairable errors - Sorry I don't have screen captures of the "exact" wording:

Heres what I did to find the issue;

After using command:

sfc /scannow

Windows reports errors which cannot be repaired

Running the following command should repair the issue:

BUT DOESN'T - You get this message:

Hello,

last November I installed and ran the Gov't Malware Program by Amnesty Int. called "Detekt".
It found that my PC was infected, with "Ghost": Unfortunately, this program only finds spyware/malware but does not offer any removal tools. I tried running Avast and CCleaner but they were not able to find anything on my Computer, Detekt would still find "Ghost".

Later in 2014 I installed a new Avira Anti Vir program (instead of Avast whih I used before) plus Malwarebytes Anti Malware. All programs were updated. Neither one of these three programs did find anything at the time (to the end of 2014).
Now today (Jan. 5, 2015) I updated and used Malwarebytes and it found "Babylon.A" (a kind of "Ghost", if I understand right) in the "Unlocker" (1.9.2) program files. It was put into quarantine by MWB.

I will try to do as you describe the process, and first post the log files that MWB put out today. My external Hard Disc Drive was connected during the scans.

Please let me know if my Computer is safe now, and if there are any safety measures to take (like , not using old USB sticks, or the like)

Thank you for your help!

QuestionGhost

Answer:"Detekt" found "Ghost"_ MWB removed Babylon from Unlocker

I do not recall exactly when or why I installed Unlocker (1.9.2), or where I got it from, but I must have downloaded and installed it around Nov 2014 (last run Nov 24, 2014)

Hi All,

I'm having some issues with WinDBG and a crash dump analysis for a Windows Phone 10, so I hope someone could answer this question here.

Background information:
Recently I bought a brand new Lumia 950 XL Dual SIM phone which keeps restarting over and over on a very random basis. After reading several threads it turns out that many people are suffering from the same issue and generic remediation steps are not working
at all. This includes using Windows Device Recovery Tool, turning off certain features such as WiFi & Bluetooth, SD card usage, etc.
After troubleshooting this issue for a while I decided to get on with Field Medic application which clearly indicated a 000000F9 crash. Unfortunately this didn't tell anything too specific so I captured a minidump from the phone and went straight to WinDBG
for further analysis.

Now my issue is that although I can load the crashdump into WinDBG, I'm unable to get the appropriate symbol files as WinDBG is constantly complaining about not finding the required files. I've changed the required sympaths as necessary so I've been trying
to use the official MS online repositories but WinDBG just doesn't want to cooperate and get the files. Unfortunately I couldn't find an offline symbols repository for Windows Phone 10 and therefore I'm stuck with the analysis. The symbols would be required
in order to nail down the root cause making the 0000009F crashes. So far I can only see that this is possibly a driver re... Read more

My problem started 08/21/07 and I've been hoping someone could look at this. I apparently caught a Trojan and can't get rid of it.

This trojan has screwed up my explorer file. I'm unable to get a display of my DeskTop (blue screen only). Reduced to using TaskMgr to run iexplore to access internet and navigate. Ran explorer and received the following error:

explorer.exe - Entry Point Not Found

(X) The procedure entry point PrintWindow cound not be located in the dynamic link library USER32.dll.

[OK] Click to expand...

I can muddle around with TaskMgr, but I no longer have my display for desktop or menu bar (i.e., Start and such).

Had a security 'expert' instruct me to rename my USER32.DLL to USER32.OLD which hosed my computer (could not boot up). Had to find my OS disk to get back in and rename the file back so I can get back to where I was.

Hi, just as the question title says, I am having a RunDLL error with the windows dll "streamci.dll".

I am getting this error while trying to install my Audio Drivers on my newly set up XP OS.

During the installation of XP, a couple of files were not copied properly.
because the CD was scratched up pretty badly, but I had no other copy of the CD, I had to just skip and hope windows installed, and was usable...

Are there any tools, that can scan your computer for missing windows DLL's and re-install them?
I have already tried downloading the file streamci.dll from the internet and installing it with

Code:
regsvr32 streamci.dll
in the command line, but I get the following error:
RegSvr32

"Streamci.dll was loaded, but the DllRegisterServer entry point was not found.
This file can not be registered."Click to expand...

Would downloading and re-installing SP2 from microsoft, possibly fix this problem?

Any Ideas?

Answer:RUNDLL ~ "Error Loading Streamci" ~ "The Specified module could not be found"

What version of XP Pro did you install with that CD?

XP Pro original

XP Pro SP1

XP Pro SP2

Have you downloaded and installed the SP3 upgrade?

Hello and thank you for reading my post.

If I'm logged in Windows as user "u1", I can execute "cmd.exe" "as administrator" by choosing

Code:
"Start" -> "cmd.exe" and right-click "Run as administrator".
I would like to start another "cmd.exe" console as "u2" and "as administrator".
(So, "u2" is not the current logged in user).

The following command:

Code:
u1 cmd.exe> runas /user:u2 "cmd.exe"
runs "cmd.exe" as "u2" but not "as administrator".

I would like to do this in command line. Can you tell me how?

Best regards.

Nota:
u1 cmd.exe> means: I'm running "cmd.exe" as "u1".

Answer:Run "cmd.exe" as a given user and "as administrator" in command line

Hi Lea,

I don't believe that what you want to accomplish is possible. This is because Windows only "runs" one login at a time, unlike some true multi user operating systems, such as Linux.

If your logged in as U1, then you can only perform operations as U1, or as the Administrator. As far as running things as the Administrator is concerned, I believe in this case that you simply inherit the Administrators permission levels, thus permitting you to perform elevated activities.

If your U1 login has Administrator privileges then running as Administrator will be no different to running as U1!

Good luck

I've had Office2 (computer) synchronizing its time with Alex (computer) for years; but, I just noticed a problem with it. I'm using the following command in a batch file:

Net Time \\Alex /Set /Yes

Problem is when the time on Alex is 10:00 PM, the time on Office2 gets set for 9:00 PM every time the batch is run, one hour behind Alex. I tried resetting Office2 to the correct time manually; but, when the batch is run, it backs it up exactly one hour every time.

Two questions:

Why is this happening?

How do I fix it?

It appears this error message has been received by a lot of people for many different reasons.

I'm getting "There is a problem sending the command to the program" when I try to open an excel file using a shortcut, usually from the "Recent Programs" menu.

Does anyone have any idea what it could be about or how to stop it from happening? This is a new occurrence as I've been using Windows 7 on my laptop for a few weeks now and this just started this week.

I have an Asus Model# U81A and Microsoft Office Home & Student 2007. Let me know what other specs you need.

Thanks

I'm getting "There is a problem sending the command to the program" when I try to open an excel file using a shortcut, usually from the "Recent Programs" menu.

Does anyone have any idea what it could be about or how to stop it from happening? This is a new occurrence as I've been using Windows 7 on my laptop for a few weeks now and this just started this week.

I have an Asus Model# U81A and Microsoft Office Home & Student 2007. Let me know what other specs you need.

Thanks

I have experienced the same problem with a few apps. Basically it is when a command is sent to a program (lets say you click a link to open a browser) if the browser (or any app) doesn't respond in time you get that message.

The workaround (at least in my case) is to leave the app open so it responds more quickly. There is a fix that worked in vista but it doesn't work in win 7. It was just to increase the time (in registry) before the timeout message appears.

Sorry I couldnt be of more assistance

Hello all. I realise this topic has become a feature. My symptoms seem to be slightly different. It started a week or so ago and what's happened is that none of the my applications via shortcut or via direct EXE (includiing office, games, system applications etc.. unless it's already part of the 'Windows start up routine"). I've started using Comodo Firewall about a month or so ago and I recently obtained the Motorola Atrix (Android) and I think (it's a big assumption) that when i connected it to the laptop and sync'd it started going funny - however I have done a system restore and it workd well but it's started again and it comes and goes if restart (bit of a lottery!)

several weeks ago I did clean out my system when I was infected with the 'google redirect virus' and underwent a comprehensive clean up which did solve the problem - hence the comodo installation.

ideas folks?

Regards (Was a satisified a windows 7 user)

FYI, if you are using a router at home, you do not need a software firewall. In fact, it basically has nothing to do since all ports are grabbed by the router, not the PC.

IE freezes whenever I try to select the "Page" pulldown menu. The pulldown menus for "Safety" and "Tools" don't do this. Sometimes I'll be able to select an item from "Page" menu, but it eventually freezes. Other times it freezes right away without being able to select anything. * Relevant note: I installed and uninstalled IE9 before this started happening.

Hi, I am running windows 7 Home premium 64 bit on my HP dv4 Notebook.
Whenever I try to open a microsoft office file, it gives me a message that says "There was a problem sending the command to the program.
I do not have Zone Alarm on my PC so that is not the problem.
It would be very helpful if someone could tell me the solution to this problem.

Hello

I have these 2 unwanted icons on my desktop, "Click to find & Fix errors" and " Sportsbook Football". I don't what type of programs they are but they downloaded themselves without my authorisation and I can't get rid of it.

I have run Ad-Aware, Spybot, The Cleaner (trial version), AVG anti spyware, Webroot (trial version),Windows Defender.

I think it was Webroot Spy Sweeper or The Cleaner that removed "Click to find & Fix errors" but it kept coming back.

Browser (IE7) will frequently redirect to a page with a message "Sorry we couldn't find "http://www.atdmt.com..." or "http://ad.doubleclick.com" or other various tags (though these are most common).

Web pages will often not load at all or will redirect while reading a webpage without any user action.

Occasionally it will simply say unable to load "actual web page trying to visit". Also oddly - problem seems to occur much more frequently in the morning than evening. This makes me wonder if it is a internet provider issue.

Problem has been occuring over the last 2-3 weeks.

I have followed the 5 Step process to the letter and run DSS after the first four steps. The contents of file main.txt are listed below and extra.txt is attached as a separate file.

Very much appreciated in advance for your help when you get a chance to review this.

I'm not sure what this is in Windows Update [and this seems to be greyed out itself too], but how is it possible to have no results in Google on this KB that's in Windows Update?

I also clicked on the "more information" for the Microsoft Knowledge Base, but nothing came up there either.

Answer:A "non-existent" Windows update ("KB3024777") even Google can't find

Also note that it can't be unchecked/deselected.

Edit: It seems this update removes kb3004394 and vanish without a trace (except in History).
Neither seems to be available in the uninstall list afterwards.

Hi, guys. I'm having a heck of a time with setting up my wireless network. I have an old desktop wired to Netgear wgt624 and trying to connect my laptop wireless to share internet connection and files between the two computers. I want to transfer all large files from desktop to laptop so I could burn it on DVDs. I used to be able to share internet connection even though laptop speed was significantly lower than desktop it was o.k. for browsing internet. Settings for router: Network authentication=WPA-PSK, Data encryption=TKIP with network key and don't broadcast ssid. In the process of trying to make file sharing work I changed a couple of settings. I changed automatic IP address to static (copied from desktop), created same usernames for both computers (even though it doesn't ask to set a password for some reason), and made some files and drives "shared". Now I can't connect to internet either. It does show network in range however when I click on connect, it tries to connect and the moment it says "connected", the message "No wireless networks were found in range" comes up. Then I refresh network list and it shows my network is connected with excellent signal strength but I can't get online. I feel like giving up on this network thing. It's sooo frustrating. I was so happy when i was able to cruise internet in the livingroom instead of having to stay next to the cable modem but I'm sure it's worth all thi... Read more

Hello Everybody!

I don't know if this is a real issue, or just one of those "What the . . . .!!" situations. You judge.

Situation:
I was working on a batch file that combines two .txt (ASCII?) files created in Notepad to create a composite file, and I noticed something really interesting. (And yes, when someone talks about doing something and the result is "really interesting", it's time to duck and hunt cover! )

Viz.:
Assume that there are two text files: "This.txt" and "That.txt", and they contain the text "This[cr-lf]" and "That[cr-lf]", where [cr-lf] is used to indicate a newline generated by hitting the "Enter/Return" key on the keyboard.

If you look at the files with a hex editor, what you see is something like this:
The file "This.txt" contains the text "This" followed by 0x0D0A, which are the ascii codes for CR and LF.
The file "That.txt" contains the text "That" followed by the same CR and LF characters.
Note that these two files contain nothing else.

Issue I discovered:
When I execute the command copy /y ".\This.txt"+".\That.txt" ".\This&That.txt", I do not get the simple concatenation of the two files, which is what I would expect. Instead I get the two files concatenated, (including the trailing CR/LF's as I would expect), but also one additional character, the hex character for a right-arrow symbol - 0x1A. In e... Read more

I want to have my folders such as My Documents, Downloads, etc stored on a separate data partition to the OS, like many people do.  When you go to the properties of the (original) folder and click on the Location tab, what is the difference between
using the Move button and the Find Target button?  Is one recommended to achieve this over the other?
I haven't seemed to find the answer after some time searching, and didn't want to do anything irreversible.
Thanks.

Answer:"Move" Username/folders or "Find Target..."

Matt

It’s perfectly safe to use ‘Move’ to move the Documents folder to a different location. Navigate to the folder, then right-click it > Properties
> Location Tab > Move, select a Destination and follow the prompts. The location can be restored by choosing Restore Default.

hello guys, when i try to open "cmd" through run dialog box,it pop a dialog box to open the commmand prompt with any program, as this pops when we try to open any unknown file. what can be the reason, I have to run this program from system32 folder manually.

Answer:command prompt "cmd" problem

I am not quite understanding your problem. Language Barrier.

Are you saying that when you do this:

start > run > cmd

The command prompt does not open.

If that is the case, your path variable is screwed up. You can change that in your system properties, in the advanced tab.

After having uninstalled my printer driver and now attempting to re-install it, I get this error command:

"This software cannot be installed using the 'Run as...' command. The installation cannot continue until this is resolved.

"Required Action: Click Cancel to exit this software installation. Log off and then log on as a user with administrator privileges. (Contact your system administrator for more information.) If there is no system administrator, have the primary user of this computer install the software. Restart the installation by removing and re-inserting this installation CD".

I do have admin privileges - I am the only user. I have tried installation using the "run as administrator" without success. I have now disabled my user account control, but still cannot get past the barrier. Is there any way to bypass this?

I am running Windows Vista Home Basic.

When I initially installed the driver on the computer, installation ran smoothly; the driver appears to be up to date (the intaller checks the HP website); I am flummoxed!

Many thanks in advance

Answer:HP380 "run as" command problem

What's the full description of that HP printer? There are several models that have a "380" designation. If you don't know for sure, look at the sticker and advise what the product number and/or service tag number is.

You need to download and save the driver software file in your computer. You can't select the "Run" command from the HP download site.

Before you reinstall the driver, you need to uninstall the driver and all other components associated with that printer, then restart your computer.

In Windows XP, fully updated, I have several folders full of mp3's and want to see the bit rate and duration. I right click on a column heading and select "Bit rate". I then click on "More..." so I can get to "Duration", and I select that one too.

But all the figures in the "Duration" column appear to be in "hours" and "minutes", so I see "00:04" or "00:03", but what I want is "minutes" and "seconds".

Any thoughts as to how to change this?

It continues to show as part of my Admin/Pictures sub-Folder tree, and hasn't budged even after a couple of reboots.

I've also tried to delete it from the thread shown in the panel above, but again without success, and with the same error message.

I just want to be rid of it as it no longer performs has any useful purpose or storage value in Pictures.

Hello - back with a new XP system and a smorgasbord of new worries. In a way I'm almost tempted to stick with the Windows 98SE exclusively for 'Net browsing and leave this one as "pristine" as possible, but, alas - the lure of speed cannot be resisted...

Anyhow, I just updated and ran Spybot, and the only item that came up is:

"Windows Security Center.AntivirusDisableNotify - 1 entry"

I was only a couple days from the end of the free 90-day NAV trial period included with the new system, so I bought the Norton renewal earlier today, which may have something to do with this. I'm reluctant to have Spybot delete it for fear of disabling something legitimate that NAV needs? But then I've never had that particular item come up in S&D either.

Should I do the fix or leave it be?

I got a new Nokia Lumia 2520 at the end of last year (2014). Had immediately o problems with starting the tab. Went bach to the shop and they send the 2520 to a service in Finland and from there to manufacturers service in Czech.
Came back and did not work as it should.
I got a new device, but the same problem accured.
Strange thing is that my wife has a same kind of 2520 and she hasn't had any of these problems.
My quess is that the problem is releted to the fact that I have "connected" my taab to the same loop with my table PC (with Windows 8.1) and with my Nokia Lumia 920 phone.
It is annoying that the tab does not open as it should. After "boothing" it 30 sec to 60 sec several times, it might start.
Once had a problem when tab went black and only the arrow pointer was visible, but nothing else.

I have an aged P200 (I think) laptop (Gateway 2000) which I kept for my children to play a Win 98 game which won't play on anything newer - Babyz, if you're interested.

The battery is flat and I only play when connected to the mains. However, on the latest turn on I get the message "No operating system found". Anything I can do about this? The laptop has a floppy drive and cd drive.

Answer:Ancient laptop "no operating system found" problem

It sounds like the hard drive has failed. If you have the Windows 98 and driver installation disks that may have come with the laptop way back when, you could buy a replacement hard drive and reinstall everything and be good to go.

Hello all,I use a Dell v305w printer with my Dell Studio 1535 laptop.  For the past few weeks, my printer will print 1 or 2 pages of a document, but then I will get a message saying:"Found New Hardware: Windows needs to install software for your S1307 Lexmark series"Afterward, my printer is unresponsive until I restart my computer. Why is this happening?  I've never used any Lexmark products before.  Is it a virus?  Do I need to uninstall then re-install the Dell driver software?  I use Windows Vista, and I've had the computer and printer for 2.5 years.  I've never used the wireless capabilities of the printer either.  Only the USB cable.I recently downloaded the Windows Vista Service Pack 2 (after this problem started).  I use McAfee and Spybot programs for anti-virus and malware protection.  I've tried running scans in both programs while my computer was in safe mode, but this did not solve my problem.  My internet connection is a public wireless network on my campus. Thanks for any advice you can give!

Certainly sounds like "someone" tried to introduce a Lexmark printer via your network. Go into "printers and faxes or whatever it is denoted as in Vista and see what printers are listed there. truenorth

Greetings; my first post.
Had Vista Ultimate; scraped it and loaded Win7 Prof. Awesome OS so far. Installed peripherals, no problem. Printer installed fine, works fine. Wanted to share it on home network. Attempted to load Canon MP970 onto network and rec'd install error with missing driver. Windows found driver at Intel (IPMI & PCI Serial Port), it downloaded but failed to install. I still see the warning icon by Other Devices and cannot identify the devices. I've attached screen shots of the sequence and Intel driver download name. The attachment is in 7-Zip format. What are these devices. How can I update the drivers for these unknown devices? Everything else works fine.

Thank you.

Answer:New Win7 Install; Device Manager "Other Devices" drivers not found problem

The fact that W7 had no drivers for the unknown devices during installation is going to be problematic, most likely it means there are no compatible drivers available.

I am running Windows XP SP3, fully updated, on an Acer lap top PC.

I have several folders full of .mp3's and want to see the bit rate and duration. To do this I right click on a column heading and select "Bit rate". I then click on "More..." so I can get to "Duration", and I select that one too.

The two new columns appear, but the format of the "Duration" column appears to be "hours:minutes", so I see "00:04" or "00:03" for most .mp3's, when what I want to see is 'hours:minutes:seconds", e.g. "00:03:45".

This also happens for video files (.avi files), e.g. all my episodes of "Heroes" (sad, I know) have a duration of "00:42" instead of "00:42:xx".

Here are two pictures showing the problem with the .mp3's. The first is of Explorer showing the Duration as "Hours:Minutes":

The second picture is of the properties window of the first .mp3 in the list above:

I copied some .mp3 files to another (old) PC on my home network, and it displayed the duration field correctly:

Also, the properties window correctly shows the duration also:

I'm not the only person to have this problem. I received a private message from a member of another forum where I posted about this problem several weeks ago. That person also has the same problem with the duration field.

Once you have the iso downloaded, right click at the ISO > click Mount > leave it there

Then open the elevated command prompt and copy and paste this................

Note : H is the drive where the iso is mounted. Change it if your driver letter is different.

When it is completed, you should get the report that the operation is successful.

I don't remember installing any programs prior to receiving this msg. If this may be caused by spyware/virus type of sort, please also advise on how to fix this problem.
Thanks in advance.

Hi

I am trying to re install my Windows 7, to do that I am using an 64bit, OEM Home Premium version from Microsoft website. After all files are loaded and I am starting installation I am getting this message: "No new devices could be found. Make sure the driver files are correct and located on the driver installation media."

My first thoughts was that installer is missing SATA drivers to my Motherboard so I downloaded them and tried to add from my memory stick during installation but it didn't help, I also tried to switch to IDE mode but it didn't work also. Latter I created bootable pendrive with Windows installation but got same error.

Don't know how to deal with that problem, please help.
Computer that I am working on is Asus G73SW-a1 laptop, please let me know if I need to post any additional information's.

Thanks!

Answer:Windows 7 OEM installation problem- "no new devices could be found..."

The SATA drivers are all in the WIn7 installer as long as you downloaded it intact and wrote to stick or burned to DVD correctly as given in Steps 1/2 from Clean Reinstall - OEM Windows 7. Read over all the other steps too to make sure you are prepared to get a perfect reinstall.

First enter BIOS setup to see if there is an EFI boot disk in BIOS Boot order. If so remove it and wipe the HD with Diskpart Clean Command first to change to MBR disk.

If not check for newer BIOS update, if none reset BIOS to defaults: Clear CMOS - 3 Ways to Clear the CMOS - Reset BIOS.\

Unplug all other HD's then wipe the HD as given above.

Recently the "find Album Info" option has stopped working on Window Media Player.
It was working fine, the option still loads up, however when i select the track/album info, the small window closes and the track remains unmodified.
I'm stumped as of what to do, I've looked around for solutions, tried updating, reinstalling, even upgrading from WMP10 to 11 to fix the problem, but with no sucess.

if anyone could offer any means of alternative or support I'd greatly appreciate it.
Thanks;

I constantly get a window saying "windows detected a hard disk problem, back up immediately then contact the computer manufacturer to determine if you need to repair or replace disk. Back up your computer immediately and shut down your computer until you get problem resolved." I have ran Norton, scan disk, device manager, and no problems are found. I am really stupid when it comes to this stuff, my neighbor used to help me but she moved. If it helps, I have a toshiba sattelite with windows 7. It has froze up on me once last week, but other than that it runs fine except for the annoying 1/2 screen window with the big red x on it, I just close it and it will come back about every 10 minutes.

Answer:I keep getting "Windows detected a hard disk problem" but cant find one.

Have you backed everything up to an external drive if not then do it now. Better safe than sorry.
Did you run the disk checker chkdsk /f with the /f extension to fix bad sectors?
START> Type "gpedit.msc" then enter. "Local Group Policy" windows appear.
Click>>>> Computer Configuration\Administrative Templates\System\Trouble Shooting and Diagnostic\Disk Diagnostic: Configure custom alert text : Setting. "Disk Diagnostic" windows appear. Disable the state.... also .. Disk Diagnostic:D iagnostic execution level : Setting. "Disk Diagnostic" windows appear. Disable the state....
will switch off the notification if you are happy that your drive is good.

Okey this morning I was greeted by this message when I wanted to start my laptop.
Intel UNDI. PXE-2.1 (build 082)
Copyright (C) 1997-2000 Intel Corporation

For Realtek RTL8101E/8102E PCI-E Ethernet Controller v1.09 (080602)
PXE-E61: Media test failure, check cable
PXE-M0F: Exiting PXE ROM.
Operating System not found

After that I've reinstalled my OS, Windows 7 by the way and everything worked fine for next 6 hours or so, then it froze. After that I turned it off and same message appeared when I wanted to start it again. What am I missing here?
P.S. It's an older laptop, Amilo Notebook Li 3710

Answer:Problem with laptop starting "OS not found"

BIOS is struggling to find your hard drive
this could just be a bad connection - remove and refit to remake the connection
or the drive is failing and needs replacing.

For some reason (it might just be because I don't have intimate knowledge on anything about computers), when I plug my Motorola SB5101 cable modem into my hub (no name), my internet doesnt work. It was diagnosed as "Primary DNS Server cannot be found".

On the other hand, when I connect to my other linksys phone adapter VoIP hub, the internet works fine on my computer, but some firewall disconnects my Xbox live connection every 5 minutes or so.

Does anyone know how to solve the DNS problem or change firewall settings on my Linksys hub?

I have had this problem numerous times in the past where the installation proceeds then ends with the messages:

During the installation of the device.
The system cannot find the file specified
and it goes into a detection loop

HERE is the solution:

Windows 2000/XP has a bug that it cannot properly detect new hardware by *.inf files, if the RunOnce registry key is missing for the following location:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion

This key is often used by installers to execute post-reboot programs, but sometimes they accidentally delete this key.

IMPORTANT: This article contains information about modifying the registry. Make sure that you understand how to backup and restore the registry, in case a problem occurs. Please read the linked Microsoft Knowledge Base article prior to editing the registry.
Go to Start » Run and enter "regedit."

Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion

With CurrentVersion Highlighted, go to the Edit menu and select New » Key

Name the key RunOnce, leaving everything else about the key alone.

The RunOnce key should now exist underneath the CurrentVersion key.
Once the key exists, Windows 2000/XP stops redetecting the Hardware

Hi!

Yeah so i've been searching some hours now for how to make my desktop look like this:
I don't care about the taskbar style, all i want is my desktop to look like that when i minimize everything, the clock and all! I think it's a really sexy look! I found the picture in an old thread on a forum and the user doesnt go there anymore. Im hoping someone here might have a clue!
I don't have any prior experience with this sorta stuff so im really clueless!

Thanks in advance!!

Answer:Trying to find this "theme" or "skin" or whatever to call it!

hi Lekandesanden, and welcome to sevenforums,

the clock and system information on the desktop looks like rainmeter.

i don't know which specific skin it is though...

looks like the screenshot originally came from here.

maybe you could try joining that forum and asking the OP - even though the post was nearly 2 years ago...

Thank you. You won't find it if you did a disk cleanup and removed the system files.
By the way, if you are running Windows 10 Insider Preview build, you will NOT find install.esd file from
$WINDOWS.~BT folder.
It is because since December 2016, Microsoft had introduced Unified Update Platform (UUP), which no longer offers the install.esd file.
Yes, that means you cannot create an iso file the old fashioned way.

I have been trying to figure out why my PC, a Hewlett Packard Pavilion m8000 Desktop PC, will not start. When I try to boot it up I watch the screen get to a point where the majority of the screen is black and all that?s on the screen is the name ?Microsoft? above a line where a bar has a green rectangle steadily traveling from left to right several times. Usually, during one of its travels across the bar going from left to right, in mid-travel, the green rectangle simply stops and nothing else happens. I have no choice but to try to manually restart my PC and hope that the green rectangle makes it through its many passes across the screeand the Computer starts.

To attempt to repair this problem, I have thus far tried:
1. Partial System Restores,
2. Complete, System Restores,
3. Removed recently installed software (if there was any), and
4. MS-DOS Commands.

When the PC is started I hit the F8 Button repeatedly until I am presented with a popup window that gives me the options of trying:

1. Microsoft's Startup Repair,
2. System Restore,
3. Windows Complete PC Restore,
4. Windows Memory Diagnostic Tool,
5. Command Prompt, and
6. Restore Applications.

I'd first chosen Startup Repair, on many occasions. After the program runs I am presented with the following information:

Problem event name: StartupRepairV2
Problem signature 01: ManualReapair
Problem signature 02: 6.0.6000.16386.6.0.6001.18000
Problem signature 03: 2
Problem signature 04:... Read more

Answer:Where can one find the meaning of Microsoft "Problem Signatures"

Unfortunately, the documentation for Startup Repair isn't very helpful.

In the case that you've posted, it states that you did a manual repair and that the system found no root cause.

The case here is that something is changing your boot stuff around. So, each time you boot you have to reset the parameters.

The most common thing I've seen with this is the TDSS rootkit. Because it infects the partition table, a format of the drive won't even fix it.

Backup your stuff first, then try one of these free utilities to see if you are infected:
TDSSKiller: How to remove malware belonging to the family Rootkit.Win32.TDSS (aka Tidserv, TDSServ, Alureon)?
FixTDSS: Backdoor.Tidserv Removal Tool | Symantec

If infected, please post over in the Security forums for assistance in making sure that your system is completely cleaned.

If not infected, please run the hardware diagnostics listed here: http://www.carrona.org/hwdiag.html#harddiag

Have been using this computer for about 5 years now, it's a Dell Latitude D810, and I'm running Windows XP with service pack 3. Recently I moved to a new location, but I still connect wirelessly to my family's router. Since I moved, though, I began having trouble accessing patch servers for various MMO games I play, Maple Story and NeoSteam for example. I discovered that Internet Explorer is required for the patching connections, so I tried to go online with Explorer instead of Firefox, but the homepage could not be displayed, and showed a "Cannot find server or DNS error." I tried going to other sites, with equal unsuccess, and am completely unable to use Explorer at all.

I've tried flushing/refreshing the DNS several times, didn't help.

I've tried setting the preferred connection to 4.2.2.2 in Network Connections, didn't help.

I've disabled all of my firewalls, and tried stopping the processes for the windows default firewall before doing anything.

I've done the "fixit" program on the Explorer site.

Can anyone tell me what I'm doing wrong here?

Answer:Probably a common problem but..."cannot find server or DNS error"

i dont know if this will work but this happened to me once and what i did was go in comand prompt and type: ipconfig /flushdns that may help

I just upgraded from Vista Home Premium to Win7 professional x64 hoping to fix the above mentioned problem. After a complete re-install Im getting the same errors.

Im not sure of the proper terminology here, but during startup the computer does a scan of all hardware and "Volume 0" has a "failed" message.

The odd thing is that sometimes after a few restarts and pointless boot menu visits the computer starts up fine.

I tried windows repair feature by booting from the disk, but when I get to the window where i select the operating system to repair, its empty. Drive C, where the operating system is, is not showing.

I have a feeling that the hard drive itself has gone bad and is very unstable. Please let me know if I'm missing something or we just need to get a new HD.

Thank you

Answer:Win7 pro startup error "Boot MGR missing"/"Operating System Not Found

What type of hdd do you have. For example if you have a Seagate drive, there is software you can run to do a diagonostic on the hdd before the operating system boots.
This would be a good idea, especially if you were having same issues when Vista Home Premium was installed first.

Do you have more than one hdd installed. If yes, make sure in BIOS settings, the proper drive is selected for First Boot. And better yet make sure its the only drive attached when booting.

I have used the @="cmd.exe /s /k pushd \"%V\"" type of Registry mod to obtain a context menu "Open elevated command window here" menu item, such as in the "Open elevated command window here" thread ( Open elevated command window here ).

However, the admin cmd window, even though it says "Administrator:" in the title bar, will not seem to work with the REG command (e.g., "REG SAVE [...]", etc.). If I even just type "reg /?" on the cmd line, it just jumps to the next (new) cmd line prompt, without any apparent action. (And, DISKPART will work here, even though REG doesn't.)

[The REG command works fine when I open a pinned cmd.exe link with Admin privileges.]

So,

1. Has anyone else noticed this?

2. And, if I'm not the only user in the universe to have this "feature", does anyone know of a workaround?

Thanks.

Answer:No REG Command in "Open elevated command window here" DOS Box

Hello Fred, and welcome to Seven Forums.

Is this the tutorial you used below to add "Open elevated command window here"? Open Command Window Here as Administrator
The REG /? command works for me using this when I right clicked on C:\Users and Open elevated command window here.
Do you have your UAC notification settings set to at least the default or top level? Normally when you use "Open elevated command window here", you will get a UAC prompt to approve before the elevated CMD window opens. If you do not get a UAC prompt, then this may be why you are having this issue.

Hope this helps for now,
Shawn

I realize that this probably not a civ specific problem, but I really do need some help. My computer is currently running XP upgraded from ME; whenever I try to install Civ 4, the error message "cannot find w9xsetup.bn." How do I restore this file? Is it an XP problem, or is it a leftover from awful ME? Thanks.

Answer:Civ 4 Install Problem: "cannot find w9xsetup.bin"

It sounds like XP doesn't support this game.
