The part of the keyboard doesn't work

Question: The part of the keyboard doesn't work

In was doing my daily laptop routine and out of nowhere the whole qwerty bar started not responding. For some reasons, it works perfectly fine, but sometimes I have to press the key very hard for it to respond. Even that not always works. Is there a way to fix this without replacing the keyboard? I am sick and fed up with it and I have to use the screen keyboard to write this article. My computer model is Lenovo Yoga 900-13SK. I run on windows 10.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

My husband's PC has Windows 7 and IE 9. When he logs onto his Grand Lodge site the login is excepted but when he selects membership list the button "grays out" and that next window does not open. Something about "java script" flashes at bottom of window but doesn't stay long enough to read. He can select any of the other options from the initial page and the window loads with no problem. He has used this site for over 2 years without any problems until now.
He contacted the site's web master and he trouble shot it and told him he needed Java and had him install it. It still doesn't work. The only change in his computer was that he upgraded from IE 8 to IE9. I took it back to IE 8 by using F12. It still won't work. The web master is stumped as to why it won't work.
I have Windows 7 and IE 10, I have no problem logging into the site and selecting the membership option. I do NOT have Java on my system.
Can anyone figure this out?

For the last month or so, every time I log off my account, the keyboard does not register at the Windows Log In screen. This makes it so I have to restart the computer and then it works fine.
There are three accounts on the computer, the casing has been half removed for the last 3 months, a DVD burner and driver recently installed 3 months ago and I am using a wireless off brand USB keyboard and mouse.
OS: Windows Xp Home Edition 5.1.2600 Service Pack 3
As for the second part, the computer requires several restarts to boot up, sometimes up to twenty minutes of turning on and off to boot up. Only started doing this a week ago.

Answer:My Keyboard doesn't work, and the computer turns on but doesn't start.

It sounds like something is wrong with your Windows XP drivers. Something like that happened to me while building my computer, and when I boot up the keyboard did not work because my copy of windows XP was bad. You could try reinstalling windows XP, and It might work better, but I dont have a definite answer to your problem.

Hi,

I have a user with a Tecra M2 whose keyboard is no longer functioning properly, 2 or 3 keys work (Enter, space, caps lock), the rest of them when pressed cause a very quiet "beep" noise to come from the laptop.

I assumed this keyboard was faulty - I attached a usb keyboard to the laptop, but this has exactly the same symptoms, they keys dont work and when pressed the beep noise comes from the laptop, no characters appear on screen.

The laptop boots to the Windows XP login screen fine.

Any ideas what has caused this, and what the solution would be?

Thanks

Answer:M2 Keyboard problem - attaching external keyboard doesn't work either

Hello,

Sounds to me like the keyboard controller on the motherboard has gone bad. Since it causes the defect on an external keyboard then your motherboard is bad. If it was only the keyboard then an external one would work fine. But all keyboard types connected to a portable are routed first through the Keyboard controller integrated on the motherboard, then the characters are displayed. When this goes bad no keyboard will work, not even an external one. And the only fix to this is replacing the motherboard. Hope this helps.

Hi,

My Sat Pro 6100 has just been away for the usual motherboard and power board replacement with Toshiba, but now I have a strange keyboard problem.

When I turn it on, all the keys work. After a few minutes, '3' doesn't work, then 'r' fails, then '5','7','8','9','0' stop working. At this stage I can feel something getting very hot under the middle of the keyboard. A reboot and no keys work. Another reboot with an external PS2 keyboard, and the internal keyboard is still faulty (some keys work, others don't) but the external one works correctly.

Now if the pc didn't get so hot under the middle of the internal keyboard, then I would conclude that the keyboard was faulty, but for it to fail slowly and sequentially like this, and it fails the same way every day (Since the Toshiba rebuild!).

Maybe, internal keyboard controller overheating?
Does anyone know what this might be? :-(

Cheers,
Homer

Answer:Keyboard on Sat Pro 6100 doesn't work properly after remedial work

Right under the keyboard of your pro 6100 is the VGA graphics controller (the keyboard cable plugs into the same card). It is normal that this part becomes warm during usage.

It's strange that your problem appears after a while and not right away.

It might be just an improper reseating of the keyboard cable (it's a thin layer like a photo film-negative) that easily pops out, but... it can be something more serious, too. (Especially since you had the upgrade done where hardware had to be changed)

I would consult the service center once again and ask for instructions how to deal with this. Don't ignore it (by using an external keyboard instead of the malfunctioning internal) as it might end up into something more serious soon...

As the description states, I think that the keyboard driver was corrupted by one or more viruses back when I got infected with AV Security 2012 and ZeroAccess, among others.
However, my computer has since been declared clean after a great save by SweetTech.

I may be wrong about the virus being the cause of the problem, but I do know it's a software problem, as the keyboard will work while the computer is booting up, (long enough that I can still put it in safe mode) but as soon as Windows boots the physical keyboard becomes totally unresponsive, even in safe mode.

The On-screen keyboard still works.
I don't know whether a USB keyboard would work or not, as I don't have one.

I hve already tried different keyboards, uninstalling and reinstallng the keyboard driver normally, in safemode, and also reinstalling after rebooting the computer, but it didn't work.

The device status for the keyboard is:
This device cannot start (code 10)

After a power outage my brothers keyboard quit working. He has a desk top computer only one year old. He uses XP. We have rebooted several times. When booting up before Windows opens DOS says it can not find the keyboard.

We made sure the keyboard is plugged in properly (It is not USB connected). We tried another working keyboard, which also didn't work. In Windows we tried adding new hardware. The keyboard is not showing up in the hardware list.

Everything worked fine until the power outage. The computer was in the sleep mode at the time. The mouse continues to work fine and everything else works like it should.

Thank you!

When I try to press any key the mouse will not work either. Well, the PC boots up and I can log-in using mouse becuase I didn't put password on user log-in. But when I press any of the keys the PC hangs. I don't know what to do. I ended up borrowing my brother's System Unit. Is it the motherboard's PS/2 port? What would be the cause? Thanks in advance. The keyboard that i'm using doesn't work right lately. I've been using it for months already. Now, the big Enter key doesn't work, sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't work at all. Also, I couldn't type "m" and "o". I tried to press "num lock" and other keys on the right side of the keyboard, sometimes I got those two letters work only once, then they dead again.

I thought it is the problem with the keyboard that i'm using. Thefore, I changed to brand new keyboard. This time, the "m" works, ENTER key works, but the "o", ".", and "(" don't work at all.

Also, a weird thing is that eventhough I didn't type the "p" key, but i kept popping up when I typed "a" and "u" key. This problem happens to both new and old keyboards.

I'm thinking about virus that causes my PC doesn't take the input keys correctly.

Any suggestion guys?

Using Windows 8, I have discovered that the shift key doesn't work. I have to use cap's lock. Every time I click the cap's lock, an ' appears. I have to delete that before typing my capital word. Without shift, I can't make many important punctuation marks like the exclamation point and the
question mark. Using an on screen keyboard works, but it's so hard to move your mouse to click each letter. Also, the control key doesn't work. Earlier, whenever I typed the space, a space and a zero appeared. And now space works, but zero doesn't. Whenever I type zero, it become an 0. Not to mention that when I type one, 31 comes up, and when I type three, 31 comes up, too. Also, when I search something online, or save a PowerPoint, or anything else, it will bring something else up. For example, I want to search Mario online, before I can type ma, https://mail.go... comes up and I have to delete everything but the m and the a and start typing again. This started today, though I didn't download anything in the past week besides using http://www.youtube..., which is used by many others. I tried describing every problem to the best I could, and painfully typed with all the problems, so I hope someone answers. Please feel free to ask me
questions. Please elaborate with both
questions and answers. I will re-post this tomorrow if nobody answers or solves the problem. And then continue posting this every hour.

Hello everyone!

Yesterday I was working on my desktop, and Windows Update decided to pop up and install some automatic updates. I put it off by a few hours, so I could finish up my work and go to sleep. When I next tried to use the computer, I realized that somehow Windows Vista could not start. Once it got past the initial screen where I could access BIOS and everything, the computer would just automatically restart.

So I pulled out my installation disk, popped it into the drive, and did a repair on my computer. It supposedly worked, and I tried to access Vista again.

Now here's the problem that I'm currently having:
The keyboard works fine while the computer is booting up. In other words, I can access BIOS and all that. However, once the computer reaches the Vista logon screen, the keyboard and mouse don't receive any power from the computer at all. I can't turn on NumLock or anything like that. Therefore, I can't access my computer at all to try and repair it.

I tried a System Restore to right before it updated (or at least that's what I think the date stamp pointed to), but the problem persists.

I use a USB Keyboard and Mouse, and my computer does not have PS/2 keyboard or mouse ports. I'm running Windows Vista 64 bit, and my computer (and hardware inside) is maybe a year old at most, so I doubt any hardware has failed.

So basically I'm asking: Is there any way to fix my computer? Or will I have to get a Linux Live CD, back up... Read more

Hi y'all,

I have an unsolved problem re: burning, so I've resorted to formatting a partition of my hdd. UNFORTUNATELY, when try, it starts to go pear shaped.

I throw the xp cd in, and restart my comp, with boot priority given to the cd drive.

It then comes up 'press any key to boot from cd'. It is THEN, that my logitech elite (corded) keyboard decides not to respond to keystrokes.
So, inevitably, it boots up windows from my hdd and I cannot format (I'm trying to format my OS drive).

It's really odd, that it responds to del, when i want 2 enter BIOS, but a few seconds later, it won't respond even to smashing my face against every key possible (well, okay I exaggerate, but it's almost getting to that stage).

Is it something where the logitech itouch drivers go for a cigarette break for a second or two? or am i just plain screwed?

Any help would be greatly appreciated, and met with unlimited praise! (almost)

DO both left and right CTRL + C not work? Maybe a keyboard issue, or a keyboard driver.

It gives me and Error: Error Initializing DirectInput. So then my emulator shuts down. Even when I run my ISO Playstation games it gives me that error and the game starts but my controlls don't work. So then I thaught to play my PC Games. So Boot one up and the black screen opens than the screen turns of and goes back to the desktop. Then I tried another game the same thing happened. I tried all my games and that's what happens. So then I put my Donald Duck's Goi'n [email protected]! Game and it boots up then it goes to the place where I have to choose the language but my keyboard doesn't work! I pressed anything but it doesn't work. Not even the ALT+ F4 or Control + ALT+ DELETE. Nothing. So I just turn my computer of via the button on the CPU. So my keyboard doesn't work with any games. I have played all those games but now they stopped working. So I went to Controll Panel to check on the Game Controllers but it doesn't open. I keeped on opening it but doesn't open. When I double click it the mouse shows te busy sign for 1 or 2 secs and nothing happens! So now I am really worried. I NEED HELP! I am so frustrated with this problem! HELP!

I have a USB keyboard that used to work fine, now it has problems.

Plugged in, normal keys don't work. So like letter keys etc don't work. The only keys that do work are the special keys for the keyboard (like F-lock, My Home, etc).

Any idea how to fix this? Using Windows XP SP2. I've tried restarting.

Hi Guys,
I am looking for some help. After upgrading to Win 10 from Win 8.1 I can use my keyboard on my laptop to login but after that my keyboard ceases to work.
The filter key box is not checked and my mouse works normally. Any tips or advice would be greatly appreciated.

I rolled back to 8.1 and the keyboard works correctly again.

Sometimes when I start up my computer nothing happens when I try to type. Then when I reboot it works. It seems to happen if I move the mouse during startup. If I don't move the mouse it starts up normally.

It also seems to have started doing this when I made some changes in my Kaspersky Anti Virus. I updated to version 5.0.227 from 5.0.142 and also I changed the automatic update schedule from once a day to every 3 hours.

The man at the Kaspersky forum suggested I disable the "Protection from network attacks" feature. They said I should because I also run ZoneAlarm Pro and there could be conflicts. This didn't help.

This is all I've done so far. Any help would be greatly appreciated. You guys have been a big help in the past. Before I started frequenting this forum I had lots of trouble with spyware and viruses and now my internet experience is almost trouble free. Thanks guys.

Occasionally, after rebooting my computer, my keyboard won't work, even the lights for num-lock etc., don't work. It happens maybe every couple of weeks but it always seems to happen when I'm in a hurry (and I can't login if the keyboard won't work). Restarting the computer usually fixes the problem although sometimes it takes multiple restarts. (Today, it took 4). A couple of times this has happened even while logged in. I leave the computer for a while and when I come back-no keyboard but most of the time it is only after restart.
I'm running XP on a Gateway. Any ideas on how to fix this?

Hey all,

I just bought a Logitech G15 Gaming Keyboard today. I plugged it into a USB port and installed the drivers, and the keyboard doesn't work. The LED lights don't light up, nor do any of the keys work. I tried plugging it into a different USB port and reinstalling the drivers, and it still doesn't work. I've also tried connecting the keyboard to another computer and it still doesn't work. Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance!

Answer:G15 gaming keyboard doesn't work

Have you previously had a USB (as opposed to PS2) keyboard connected to the system ?
If not, then you may have to enable the function in the motherboards BIOS.
If you have then it sounds like a fault with the keyboard. The G15 does not require the drivers and utilities (Key profiler and LCD manager) for basic functionality. If you have USB keyboard support enabled then the keyboard backlighting and LCD screen ( "Logitech" for rev.1 blue backlit, "G15" for rev.2 orange backlit) will initialize as soon as the OS loads.

About 2 months ago, my keyboard quit working in WORD. I have no problems typing this post, for example, or cutting and pasting text I am forced to enter into WordPad in order to get it into WORD. I deleted the keyboard file in settings/system/hardware/device manager/keyboards and rebooted. No help at all. My wife's friend installed a Chinese character set that is always there, but I used tb be able to just change to a western font and work on. That doen't even work anymore. Hi,
I got the GA-586T2 motherboard... and my keyboard doesn't work anymore... it's working for 10-15 secs (I can go in the BIOS... and I don't even have the time to quit...) and, it will not work again if I don't shut it down...

Does someone know how to fix this? Or is it the motherboard or the keyboard?

Answer:Keyboard doesn't work anymore...

could be your keyboard controller, could be something's screwy in the BIOS. It's a PS/2 mouse I assume? For a couple bucks you can get a PS/2 - USB converter. Then you can use the same keyboard but plug it into your usb drive.

I installed windows 8 on my ASUS N76VZ Laptop and installed the "keyboard filter" driver that has been updated to work with windows 8. However, every once in a while, when I turn on my laptop the keyboard doesn't work. When I roll the driver back to the driver made by microsoft the keyboard will work again, but the keyboard won't light up and none of the function commands will work. So to get those to work I re-install the driver and those things work again and the keyboard works again, but after a couple of re-boots the keyboard stops working, but stays lit up.

Any ideas what the heck is going on here?

Thanks

-Derek
Edit: I got the keyboard driver here:

http://www.service.asus.com/#!Downloads/c1wax

and I also figured out that if I uninstall the driver and then re-install it, the keyboard works again without even needing to restart.

go into your bios and try the enter key there. If it doesn't work, call 131-426, option 1 and 3, ask for a new keyboard and see whether that fixes the issue (they should courier it to you overnight). If that doesn't work you can opt for repair or return.

Hey guys,I don't know if this is Windows 10-specific, but this seems like a harmless enough place to ask you about it.I just upgraded our PC with a new mobo, CPU, RAM and graphics card, then reinstalled Windows 10. Now, for some reason, the Home key on my keyboard doesn't do anything. I've tried a few different keyboards, which all work fine on other machines. I do a lot of writing and editing, and it's quite frustrating.I tried this online keyboard tester. Normally, when you press a key, it does three things:The key lights up in the keyboard diagram. You hear a click sound. The key's name appears in the window above the diagram (e.g. <Home>).All the keys do this except Home. When I press Home, the Home key does light up in the diagram, but there's no click, and no key name appears. So the keyboard's sending the right code, but it's not actually doing anything? I tried the Passmark Keyboard Test app on my PC, and it doesn't respond to the Home key at all (other keys work fine).Any ideas? Thanks!

Hello,

I have a Toshiba Satellite 3000-100 Notebook. It worked without any trouble. But suddenly the keyboard doesn't worked! The other buttons are still working. What can I do?

Thanks, homer108 (from Germany)

Answer:Satellite 3000-100: keyboard doesn't work

For me it looks like a keyboard fault.
In such case you will have to replace the old keyboard with the new one.
The replacement is not very difficult. The keyboard is connected to the motherboard with the small, flat cable. To remove the cable from motherboard you will have to open both small latches at the connector?s sides and to lift out the cable.

However, firstly you have to order a compatible keyboard from ASP which is responsible for your country. And if you have no experience with any replacement procedures I would recommend asking the notebook technician for the help.

Best regards

a friend has asked me to have a look at a laptop that hes had lying around for a while, the only problem with this machine (its a 'digital' HiNote VP) is that the far right side of the keyboard doesn't work correctly e.g when enter is pressed it do anything (most of the time minimise windows) sometimes however it does actually function properly.

I'm assume that because of the keyboard doing this its probably had something spilt on it at one stage, but I've opened the keyboard up and its all clean. Just wondering what people think could cause this and if its possible to try and fix the keyboard or should I just try to locate a replacement keyboard?

I've already ruled out a software problem because the keyboard also plays up in the BIOS in DOS etc (its running Windows 98)

Answer:Far-Right side of notebook keyboard doesn't work

Well, there are a lot of possibilities here. I would do the following:

Boot to a command prompt. If the keys don’t work there, you have eliminated a problem with the operating system. If they work there, it is most likely an operating system problem.

If the laptop has been disassembled, check the keyboard to motherboard ribbon cable (if one exist) and make sure it is not damaged.

Just because you don’t see anything that looks like a spill, does not necessarily mean something wasn’t spilt in it.

You could take a shot at replacing the keyboard to see if that is the problem. If that is not the problem, then it is most likely a controller problem on the motherboard – this does not happen very often.

Does the laptop have an external keyboard/mouse (PS/2) connector? If it does, you could try an external keyboard to see if it will work. If that does not work either, then you most likely have a problem with the motherboard.

All in all, with the keyboard working part of the time, I would say that it needs to be replaced.

I hope that helps a little.

A few hours ago I turned on my computer and upon trying to type my password found that my keyboard wasn't working. I restarted then tried using a USB keyboard, which also didn't work. This confused me since my USB mouse was working just fine. Next I decided to check the boot sequence on the BIOS, but after hitting f2 all the keyboards' lights went out and they stopped working again.Any ideas what happened or how I could fix this? I'm running windows xp sp3.

Answer:Keyboard doesn't work. Not even to config BIOS

Check again under your BIOS settings and look for any options available and try enabling them; System keyboard, USB Function or USB Legacy Support. Reset Config Data - If this feature is also present, try disabling it and save & exit. You could also try swapping places with mouse and keyboard ports or any ports available to see the difference.

Hi all,

The apostrophe key on my keyboard stops working when I set input method to UK English. However I know this isn't a fault with my keyboard since I also type Chinese and the apostrophe key works fine when I'm using the Chinese input method.

I have read some posts regarding keyboard issues which suggested that I can check keyboard mappings and whether the key has been set as a soft key using the Microsoft Keyboard Layout Creator, however the key has not been set as soft and keys usually light up in Microsoft Keyboard Layout Creator when I press them on the keyboard but I get no response for the apostrophe key.

Does anyone have any ideas?

I replaced the hard drive and reloaded windows 7 64bit from a Microsoft disc as we were unable to find the Toshiba recovery disc. Everything works fine after downloading all required drivers from Toshiba except the entire keyboard. The keyboard shows up in the device manager as working fine with no conflicts but I cannot get any function from the keyboard at all.

I suspect my friend has locked the keyboard in some manner or there is a setting I need to enable but I am at a loss at what to try next as I have reloaded the flash card utility, the vap utility, tried the Fn/ F11 and the Fn/F10 combinations to no avail.

Any help would be gratefully received.

Wait a moment. Has keyboard worked after clean OS installation and before you started to install Toshiba drivers?
Can you use keyboard in BIOS mode (arrows to change BIOS options)?

Help! So I have a Split X2, that I absolutely love. Well the keyboard completely stopped working. Anytime I connect the keyboard to the tablet, the screen shuts off completely, as if the battery is dead. When I tried charging it, it wouldn't hold a charge. The tablet itself works fine, but it's difficult trying to complete college assignments and work on it, without a keyboard. Now it's to the point that sometimes when using just the tablet, the screen keyboard would freeze up in the middle of whatever I'm working on, and I have to shut it down and restart it. I would like it fix it but I haven't had no luck with any help. Please

Answer:Keyboard doesn't work properly on my old Satellite Pro 420

Hi Nadine,

From what you have descibed, it seems as if the problem is with the keyboard itself and not with the drivers themsleves. Is it possible that there is something trapped under some of the keys, maybe a small fragment of something, especially under the "e" and "w" keys? Maybe also some liquid has been spilled on the keyboard causing the laptop to believe that sometimes these keys are pressed when they are not.

I would try cleaning under all of the keys, you may need to remove the keyboard to do this. Remove the power adapter and battery before any cleaning to prevent damage to the laptop. You should be able to find instructions for removing the keyboard in the owners manual.

Good luck and let us know how you get on!

Weezle

I have to boot into safe mode because of viruses and the keyboard will not work. It works under normal mode. I have tried 2 different PS2 keyboards and neither of them work. Do I have to do something to get the keyboard working?

Yes, remove the viruses.
Almost positive the virus causes this issue.

Do you have any virus scanners?
If not, I would suggest the following...

AVG Free - Download Free Antivirus and Antispyware for Windows XP and Vista
OR
Download FREE antivirus software - avast! Home Edition
OR
Free antivirus - Avira AntiVir

Any of those will work, and its up to you on the choice.
I personally use avast, but I've heard good things about the others also.

Let me know.
Thanks.

Hello everybody, I recently have gotten computer parts and put together a PC, after a delay in the mail I have received the graphics card and installed it into the tower, before I got the card I was using the computer perfectly fine with the CPU graphics that are integrated so I know that all of my hardware works, or did. When I put in the graphics card there was an issue with it showing up on the monitor, so I took out the motherboard battery with guidance from a friend and reset the CMOS and I have it displaying now with a HDMI to DVI-D.

When I turn the computer on it turns on and then turns off instantly after the fans and such start to go, it does this once, then fully turns on and I press the delete key to load the bios, after that I load windows and when I get out of the bios all usb ports stop working, mouse and keyboard stop and im stuck looking at the windows 8 screen showing date and time and internet connection, I've been looking online and still am yet to find a solution because everybody else that has this issue can somehow access their desktop. I can't. When I load from the windows CD i get into the starting menu for loading the operating system, but again, no mouse or keyboard so I can't keep going from there.

I removed the graphics card which initially caused the problem, upon start up it restarted 3 times and then turned on, in the windows loading screen where i was stuck before the keyboard LED's are lit up but the mouse is not. the ke... Read more

Answer:Keyboard/Mouse doesn't work outside of Bios

Have you tried both the USB 2.0 and USB 3.0 ports for the keyboard and mouse? Maybe the USB 3.0 isn't working correctly due to drivers or compatibility with the Razer gear or drivers. Or can you borrow a basic USB keyboard and mouse?

I also see a BIOS update on the Asus website that addresses "USB Compatibility" and "System Stability" in another. If you do not already have the 1603 BIOS update you may wish to update it that one. You can update the BIOS through the BIOS itself, go into the Advanced section and use EZ Flash and load it from a USB stick; it must be extracted first though.

Ok, To be quite honest I never really use the sleep feature on my computer, possibly the only time I ever did was to test it was working, But anyway the problem is that whenever I'd have My machine asleep whether it be pressing the button by accident or doing it intentionally, when I tell it to wake it up, It does everything normally (Brings back Desktop etc.) but the keyboard (And sometimes the mouse) are practically dead, No lights on and stuff, and doesn't come back unless I restart and on some occasions completely unplug the power cables for about half an hour.

I did some research around and I couldn't find anything helpful, Some suggested upgrading the Bios (Done) and some said turning off the respective settings in "Power options" and the "Device manager" (Did that too) and still no result, I'm using windows 7 SP1 and all the latest drivers and updates, My motherboard is an Intel DH67CLB3 with latest bios.

The real problem for me is that I don't know how long it has been going on for and whether or not I had anything to do with it, because like I said I rarely use the sleep button, But whenever I do It always does this on wakeup.

Can Anyone help?

Answer:Keyboard doesn't work after waking up my machine.

Method 1
Verify if the keyboard is enabled to wake the computer out of sleep mode.

a) Open the Keyboard control panel item, as described in Method 1.
b) Click the Hardware tab, and then click Properties.
c) Click the Change Settings button

Note This step requires Administrator access
d) Click the Power Management tab, and then verify that Allow this device to wake the computer is enabled.
e) Click OK, and then click OK again.

Method 2
If the above step fails then make sure that you have updated the drivers for the keyboard from the manufacturer website.
Update a driver for hardware that isn't working properly

Hi,

I have Vista L500 with a dead keyboard. This machine has not been dropped or had anything spilled on it. I have plugged in external USB keyboard which works. The laptop keyboard does not. I have flashed BIOS, updated drivers, held shift key for 10 sec (read on another forum), reset computer, checked Windows Vista updates and ran 3 Virus checks.
Everything is perfect, just no Keyboard?

What else should I check? Could it be a motherboard problem?

Thanks for any help given :)

Answer:Satellite L500 - Keyboard doesn't work

Hello

Can you enter the BIOS (F2 key) with internal keyboard?
If not the internal keyboard seems to be defective and needs replacing?

I don?t think you can do more. I mean you tried everything what is possible and if an external keyboard works the OS installation should be ok.

The keyboard can be ordered and replaced from an authorized service provider. Do you know how to contact the guys?
