IP address

Question: IP address

I am with sky and the ip address is dynamic.

My husband took part in a financial venture with a particular company online. They have noted the ip address for our household as my husband was accessing their website from our wifi. My husband also has a lot of data on his mobile phone.

I decided to join in on the venture on behalf of my mother who is part of a different household but does not have internet. I do not have much data on my mobile phone and cannot access the wifi from my home as only one household can use the wifi at home.

It would be better for me if my husband sticks to his mobile data when accessing that website and i access the wifi at home.

How can i change the ip add for the gateway? Today i went out and logged in to that website whilst using my mobile data and it had to verify that it was me who was using the account. I thought it was ok to use my data as they have that registered no matter where I go. Hope i made sense, I'm rubbish at explaining.

Preferred Solution: IP address

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Are you asking how to change your (home) public IP address? If so, unplug the modem for however many hours or days it takes for the lease to expire. Then when you plug it back in you may--no guarantee--be assigned a different IP address.

Or, you could switch to a different internet provider.

I have solved about every problem just by reading other people's questions (as the rules state) has worked every time until now. access violation at address 4003b648 in module rt170.bpl. write of address 0000000d I have not found this, I hope I didn't overlook it...I'm learning a great deal from this forum and I don't want to waste everybody's time...I'm still a newbie and the more I learn, the more I realize that I don't know sh**. Anyway, thanks for your help...this is a great place to learn.

Just my guess...Access violation...usually means a RAM/memory error.Address 4003b648 appears to be a memory address.Module rt170.bpl...seems to be part of IE.What's the related error data as reflected in Event Viewer?Take a look: answer by Rick Rogers (helpful MS-MVP) indicated that either updating the SP to the most current or reinstalling IE would be the answer.Louis

I am running xp pro. I can not get an internet connection through my ethernet card. When I hook up my modem through usb it works fine but unable to utilize my full download speed capabilities. Hooked the modem up via ethernet to laptop and it worked just fine. The only thing I can find wrong that I don't know how to fix or what is causing it is the fact that the physical address of the card comes up as the broadcast address (FF-FF-FF-FF-FF-FF). Very strange. Can someone please suggest a fix for this (and dont say update the drivers) although it could likely be something as simple that I have overlooked.

I would like to hide the address bar but still be able to use the forward and back buttons and some other features.  I have add the rege key to remove nav bar but that removes everything.  Im using this in a citrix xendesktop environment.
I will deploy a site but don't want the users to navigate to other sites.  For instance go to our intranet site but stop them from going to our firewall gui page. So when they click on links I wont them to be able to go back to the previous page.
Any ideas?

Answer:IE 11 Hide Address bar but keep Forward and Back buttons or disable typing in address bar

It's designed by default, and we cannot only hide address bar. Thanks for your understanding.

The problem was found when I was using the TuneUp DiskCleaner to scan the hard drive labled F (the "File" drive). The scanning was stopped when it reached a folder (a folder that contains html pages that someone sent to me and I saved there), and a error message popped up saying "Access violation at address 019C44F3. Read of address 83C70A78."

I repeated the scanning and the exactly same thing happened -- even the error address reported was the same.

I tried to delete the folder from the explorer window. But everytime after I press the "delete" button, the explorer just breaks down, while that folder remains there the next time I open the explorer. The same thing happens in when I tried to delete it in the safe mode.

Strangely, I was able to rename the folder. It just can't be deleted.

Since everytime the same error address was reported, I assumed there could be some defect with the hard drive. So I launched a thorough scan of the F drive using TuneUp Disk Doctor, which reached the deepest level by checking every 512 bytes sector. The scan took about 20 minutes, but nothing wrong was found.

Can any one help me figure out what's wrong? Thanks.

Answer:Access violation at address 019C44F3. Read of address 83C70A78.(RESOLVED)

Hi there and welcome to TSF.
First, check the permissions on the folder. Right click on it then select properties. Make sure the folder isn't "read-only". If you still can't delete it, try using the utility MoveonBoot. You can download it from this site.. This allows you to mark the folder for removal next time you reboot.

I have been unable to insert an address from my Yahoo email address book for some time now and I have decided to ask for help.

All I am doing is opening Yahoo mail and trying to compose a new email to send to someone who is already in my contacts. When I click "to:" or "insert address" my address book shows up. But when I place a check mark and try to "insert checked contacts" I go to this address on a blank page:

I see that this has been asked before but no one had replied and I can't find the answer doing a search.

Can anyone help?

I have Vista Home Premium 32 using Firefox. The version is the latest version of Firefox but this has happened in many previous versions of Firefox. (I was lazy [or in a hurry] and just typed in the address of the entity to which I was communicating as a work around.)

Answer:Solved: Yahoo email unable to insert address from address book

Concerning my post above: I turned on my older XP computer and I had no problem with inserting an address from the Yahoo! address book.

I compared all my settings in both computers and noticed that I had different settings relating to how pop-ups are handled. XP reminded me that the address book takes the form of a pop-up. On my Vista I had pop-ups opening up (?) in a webpage. That is the page which came up blank. After I have corrected the settings, I no longer have a problem.

I am using Outlook 2003 and run Windows XP.

When I create a new message I begin typing the name of the recipient and I would like it to match up with an address I have in my Outlook contact list. However, it does not read from there. It only seems to look at addresses that I have already sent to in the past. How can I get it to read from the address book? If I click on "TO" or "CC" it brings up another window with a list of addresses from my contact list. From there I can have it pull from the list. I would like to be able to do it withot the extra step.

A machine running 64-bit win10 belongs to one WorkGroup, connects to the LAN via EtherNet for speed but it must be available via wifi also, so both connections are open.
For an Android device to access an app served by a webapp served on the win10 machine, the win10 machine needs a fixed IP address. The Android device seems to understand only IPv4 addresses, When the win10 machine's EtherNet connection is IPv6, it's apparently impossible to give it a static wifi IPv4 address.
How do I solve this?

Answer:static IPv4 wifi address while ethernet uses IPv6 address?

Hi pzbrawl

Interesting. My adapter shows and IPv6 address and an IPv4 address. When you you go into the TCP/IPv4 properties is it just greyed out to prevent entering.

When you do an "ipconfig /all" command on your windows 10 machine does your adapter have an address for each protocol.

One thing you might be able to do to fool the system.

With your Windows 10 machine connected, enter your router and reserve an address based on the MAC of your Windows 10 machine. Then this address will always be saved for your Windows 10 machine ( so in essence it will be static). Usually there is a specific section in the router to do this. You open it, find device and click reserve. (might be slightly different on your device.)'

By the way what router do you have?

Hey everyone.

I've ran into a problem that I can't quite figure out. My internet connection shows 'no internet access' even though my ISP shows the connection is coming into the house just fine. I usually use a router (NetGear-WNR3500U) but I right now I have the Ethernet connection plugged directly into my PC. I tried directly plugging into my laptop and the internet works just fine. So I know the problem resides in the PC.

Some troubleshooting things I have tried.
-Power cycled my modem, router and PC.
-Repinged my connection from my ISP(Comcast Xfinity)
-Used the reset option on the router and the modem
-I was walked through the internet options needed with the tech support from my ISP to make sure DHCP was enabled and every other setting was correct, and he cleared me that all settings were correct.
-Tried ipconfig commands to /renew and /release my IP
When I tried ipconfig /renew I get the error 'An error occurred while renewing interface Local Area Connection : unable to contact your DHCP server'

-Restored my PC to a restore point where the Internet was working

All of these options did not work.

What I think the problem is and I am not sure how to fix it, when I run the ipconfig /all command my Auto configuration IPv4 Address shows which I was told is a router IP address even though I am plugged directly from the modem to my PC with an Ethernet cord. So I think that's my problem? But I am not sure.

I'd be glad to prov... Read more

Answer:'No Internet Access' IP address shows router not the modem IP address

That would be your ISPs' address, the router would probably be or so, in the properties, advanced button for the ipv4 of your adapter, make sure both settings are on auto, and add the correct router address in the gateway box.

I have a problem for over a week now that when I type a certain website in URL address bar it directs me to a different website.
I tried looking at the lmhosts - seems ok.

I also tried going back to a restore point of a time when I didnt have the problem, didnt help.

I would thank you very much for trying to advice me.

Answer:typing web address brings me to a diiferent address in explore and mozilla

There are a few reasons for this.

First sometimes the site you are looking to visit isa "front" site and is for the most part fake. It is created to get search engines to list it high on the list of returned results.
When you try to use the search link to go to the site you get redirected to the site the creators/owners actually want you to visit. There are various reasons they may want this, but I will not go into the why for now other than to tell you it usually involves visitor counts and or subscriptions translating into money.

Second this is a common symptom of maleware/spyware.
It is also a redirect to a website they are hoping if you see it enough you will get interested and pay to join.
It may have installed as a legit program without your permission.
This would be why the restore did not work.

There are other reasons, but I will only deal with these first as they are the two most common.

If it is only happening on one site I would just forget about that site as it is a lost cause.
If it is happening on more than one site then I would run a few good spyware scans and at least one good anti-virus scan if not more than one to make sure you "catch" it if that is in fact what is wrong.

If you do not already have them I would reccomend installing

In the past I've maintained my address book using the built-in Address Book utility that came with Windows. Once each year, I would import my Address Book (.WAB) file into Outlook 2003/XP. (I don't use Outlook for email.) Then I would use the Mail Merge feature in Word 2003/XP to make and print address labels on standard Avery label sheets to simplify address of my Christmas cards.

Since I'm now using Windows 7, and the familiar Address Book utility is no longer available, how can I print my address labels? I have both Windows Address Book (.WAB) and Comma-Separated Values (.CSV) files that contain my address book data. So, I guess I need to know two things:
Which program or utility (preferably free) can I use to print my address labels.
How do I import my address data into that program?

If it helps, I am already a user of Gmail and Google Drive. Thanks.

Answer:Solved: Address Label Printing without Windows Address Book

Hi Jim,
Assuming you still have Microsoft Office (any version) you can use the Word mail merge feature and use your .csv file as your data source - no other programs necessary. What version of Office are you using?

I tried troubleshooting it myself for over a week now using many Microsoft

It crashes quite randomly, but mainly after it's been left to go to sleep, or even if it dims the screen to save

updates are fine.

It's very important that I use my laptop as I'm a Fourth year at university trying to write

We have run across a problem here with APIPA addressing.

After we install Windows updates, Windows assigns an APIPA address in the 169.254.x.x range, instead of getting an address from the DHCP server. The effect is that the computer loses connectivity with the network and the Internet. You can confirm this problem by running an IPCONFIG and checking for an address in the 169.254 range.

Releasing and renewing the address does not correct the problem. Assigning a static IP address resolved the issue. Searching the Microsoft Knowledge Base, we found a registry hack that will disable APIPA addressing on the computer, and this does correct the problem so the computer can connect to the network again.

We assume that the problem is a result of an update from last Tuesday, but we have not determined which update is the problem. We are still looking.

Our concern is that as DHCP leases expire with computers in the field, that this effect may appear. If you get calls for loss of network or Internet connectivity, have the user run IPCONFIG, and if they have an APIPA address, the registry hack is outlined in KB article 244268

Anyone else seen this? Have a different solution or know which update causes this problem?

I don't believe that it matters which subnet the computer is in as long as it has an active connection and can reach the default gateway although it might have problems reaching other computers. If this is a home router and you are using the default settings then you shouldn't have to worry about subnets.

Hi all,

Just curious, but I thought that my WLAN's internal IP address for my computer (192.168....) was not accessible from the internet, only my router's internet IP address could be seen. But if you go to, and click on their "more info about me" option, it shows my internal WLAN address, as well as my router's internet IP.

So.... is it my Internet Explorer that provides this info to them, or how do they query for this info? I'm just a little concerned for security reasons.

Thanks for any help!

Answer:internal WLAN IP address VS. external internet IP address

If your computer's IP did not go along as part of the packets that go to an internet site (say, one that requests to return your info, how would the response get back to you?

It's very similar to wanting somebody to return your phone call or respond to your letter--you need to give them your phone number or mailing address.

This has been happening for a few months and I have had to reset the router every time and it usually works. I have 3 laptops, normally 2 are used and a roku streaming player connected to the tv. Both laptops are on windows 7 and sometimes the wifi suddenly stops working [sometimes only stops for some devices] even though i am still connected to the my router. Some times, a popup comes up that says that windows has detected an ip address conflict, so I think that that is the problem, but when I try to do ip/release, renew, it says that the media is disconnected to wireless network connection 2 even while i can access the internet.

Im working with windows xp and netgear wireless adapter n150 it says that it has successfully accessed the wifi but in the status it say that theres an invalid ip adddress then when i go to view network connections it says acquiring network address i have enabled the adapters. I dont know what else to do im on my laptop now so idk how to get the cmd screen here.HELP!

Answer:invalid ip address/ acquiring network address

Mr Juice ,

Yeah it looks like your WiFi router is not, acknowleding your Adapter with IP address. A good trouble shooting command is

ipconfig in the cmd prompt, (Usuually you will see starting with 192.168.x.x... or something or 172) but if you see 169.x.x.x, then tell me. I can say you have a problem

ipconfig/release and then ipconfig/renew see if this helps.

Other than its going to be a nightmare editing all of the websites to 1 email address, what other pros and cons are there for this idea.

I bought a laptop last Saturday (30-8-16). I study in a university where you have to give your laptop's MAC address/Physical address to access the university WI-Fi. So i took my laptop to the wi-fi configuration department, they registered my MAC address and sent me back. But the wi-fi did'nt work, so i went back and he tried checking my MAC address and the MAC address had changed. So, he asked me to restart my laptop and when i did, i got a new MAC address again (third one). He said MAC address is supposed to be unique, please go get it checked. So basically each time i shut it down and start or restart my laptop, i get a new MAC address. I called the customer care on Tuesday and your executive couldn't understand the problem and he just disconnected the call. I had to call again and wait for so long, even this guy didn't know the solution to this. He said he'll ask his senior officials and get back to me the next day but i've not got a single call till now. I called again and asked another guy, he asked me to open command prompt and type "getmac" and my laptop displayed 3 MAC addresses that time whereas a laptop should have only 2! I have received a damaged product probably and i'm not getting proper service due to which i had to post here. It's been 4 days and not a single solution. Please solve ASAP.

I am using Windows 7 in 64 bit and have connected to web with Netgear DGN2000 Modem/Router.

I am trying to set 3 Address Reservation's for 3 items on my home network. 2 will work but the 3rd and main PC has a Mac address starting with 90 (unlike others that start in 00) when trying to set I get an error saying "Invalid Mac Address".

Internet research suggests that you should save with "00" inlieu of "90" and then do a backup of settings. Then edit actaul backup file to set the real address back to "90" and then restore that file to the router.

Well I tried that and restore says that's invalid file. I then tried a backup file as a normal backup process with no edits (also no address reservation for main PC) and the same error appears. So don't know what good a backup of settings is if that does not work.

Are there any suggestions or should I just forget and deal with the ever changing internal IP addresses?

Answer:how can i tracing the ph. no.,St. Address, owner name by the e-mail address

you can try typing the email address in google or you can go to one of those sites where you pay for them to get others private info. Thats the best you can do.

If there is illegal activity going on, just turn the email over to the authorities.

Will someone tell me how I can stop every tom dick and harry with something to sell from leaving his address on my book. I now have over twenty addresses I do not recognize and would like to not have to delete them every few months as I have been doing in the past. Thanks for your help.

Answer:Unwanted e-mail address in address book

I see you are keeping details a secret, such as what programs are involved.

If by chance it is Outlook Express, you can try this...
OE->Tools->Options->Send Tab.
Be sure this is unchecked Automatically put people I reply to in my Address Book

But they don't normally appear there if you are not opening the emails and clicking reply. So I am unclear how yours are showing up in an address book?

Hello All,

Just to preface things, I have never had any training on repairing or modifying computers, but I've picked up some things over the years. I've had a computer in my home since 1986. I am pretty good at following instructions and figuring things out.

I have an older Dell Dimension 8300 with Windows XP Professional with SP3. I've had this computer for about 6 or so years. This computer had a Blue Screen error on shut down for years, but it was never a problem, it just caused me to have to power down manually. I finally decided to attack this problem via google searches on similar problems in forums like this. That machine is no longer my primary computer, so I figured I would attempt to fix it up. I know, this is not a smart idea since I'm not a pro. But I did it, and I actually did fix the Blue Screen problem, but in the process, I did something to disable my internet connection.

Now, my IP address is and I have done everything as suggested in this similar thread:

as well as what was suggested by my ISP's tech support. Nothing will work, my computer is still stuck on "acquiring network address" and the IP is still I thought it may have something to do with the ethernet drivers, but I uninstalled and reinstalled those and restarted, still nothing.

Answer:Computer cannot acquire network address, IP Address

Oh, and also, I am connected to a DSL modem using ethernet, and my other desktop computer works fine with the same modem (I just switch ethernet cables each time I switch computers). The problem is not with the modem or the cable, it is definitely related to what I did to fix the blue screen error.

I can't honestly remember every specific thing I did to fix that error, but some of it was identifying the unsigned drivers on my system and disabling some of them until the error went away.

I am using winpro2000 and office2000. No network and AOL is my internet provider.

I use to be able to go into word and print an envelope and the address would stay in the drop down. I think one of my kids fooled around with Outlook and now I have to enter addresses in the "new contact" area fields in order to get them to stay. Even then, only the name apprears not the whole address when I select an address from the drop down. I had to import the PAB into outlook to be able to use the previous addresses that use to automatically.

All I want to do is to EASILY print an address on an enveolpe and have it save to the drop down again.

Thanks a bunch,

I'm on Windows, behind a router. I have a webserver setup behind the same router on a different computer. When I try to access the web server from my computer using a browser, the LAN IP resolves correctly to the MAC of the server. When I use the Windows HTTP Service, however, the IP resolves to the router's internal MAC address, which sends TCP RST each time I try to connect.

Anybody have any ideas why this would occur and how to fix it? Thanks in advance.

Answer:IP address resolving to wrong MAC address

I am six shades of confused. Let's see if I am understanding you correctly;

- How many computers do you have? I'm seeing 2, possibly 3.
- What is the HTTP service? Where are you running this from?
- How are you resolving the IP on your computer?

Almost sounds like you have two subnets.

I'm thinking about changing my IP address. I heard that you can change your IP address if you change your MAC address, and that you can change your MAC address using various software.

Firstly, is it even safe to change your MAC address?

My PC connects to the Web via a router. When I check my IP address on one of the many Web sites that provide such a service, it shows my router's IP address, which is static. When I disconnect the router, connect to the Web without it, and check my IP address again, it shows my PC's IP address, which is dynamic.

If I were to change my MAC address, will it change my PC's IP address or my router's IP address?

Answer:Does Changing Your MAC Address Change Your IP Address?

This is not going to do anything for you. If your ISP assigns you a STATIC ip address and you want it changed you need to contact your ISP.

Hi, I cant renew my IP Address And what shows up in the support section is

Address Type: Invalid IP Adress

IP Address:

Subnet Mask:

Default Gateway:

I did not do anything to my firewall or securtiy also i have not changed my internet card

When I try to renew my IP Address in the CMD The following error happens

"An error occurred while renewing interface Local Area Connection : The DHCP client has obtained an IP address that is already in use of the network. The local interface will be disabled until the DHCP client can obtain a new address."

Answer:Address Type: Invalid IP Address HELP!

Repair duplicate IP address on network issue.
Turn off everything on the network, ALL the machines and any other network device like network printers and NAS drives.
Turn off the router and modem.
Turn on the modem, wait for a steady data light.
Turn on the router, wait two minutes.
Turn on the network devices and computers, one at a time.

This issue is usually caused by resetting a router without resetting all the network connected devices.

Another issue that will cause duplicate IP addresses is assigning static IP addresses to devices that conflict with the router's DHCP address range. If you require static IP addressed devices on the network, they should be configured to be in the same subnet but outside the address range defined for the DHCP server.

I have used this and it works at the time I first wrote it.

netsh interface ipv4 set address name="Ethernet" static
netsh interface ipv4 set address name="Ethernet 2" static

But the problem is when I reinstalled Windows. Windows has swapped them so the IPs got swapped as well.

I am hoping to can help me with another script/command where I can use MAC address instead of "interface name" since this name can be swapped.

I have 2 PC's and a laptop on a home network via a Linksys WAG354G router. Until a week ago, all 3 accessed the net without any problems. Now one of the PC's will not access my network or the internet, while the other 2 are still fine.

Answer:set address bar to display desired address

A web page cannot cause a different URL to appear (different from the actual URL) in the address bar of a browser. If it can, then the browser is seriously insecure.

Did you mean that when you type in your browser, your page situated somewhere say opens up. There are 2-3 ways of doing that but all on local level (only on your computer). If yes then I will post those methods.

Recently purchased new laptop with XP-Pro and had old PC upgraded a few months later (XP-Home on it). Trouble on both:

- can't open links in emails Outlook Express
- can't open links on SOME webpages--Temporary solution: right click, copy & paste shortcut into Address Bar

- can open most links, but cannot use "Go" or enter after address on Address Bar
Before someone thinks I'm crazy or that both computers have a virus, I have run Spybot, Ada-ware, AVG and McAfee - nothing found. However, I did find articles on Windows support that indicate similar problems, but haven't been able to work the solution. See articles at:;en-us;281679;en-us;180176
Perhaps I missed registering one of the .dll files on the laptop when I tried to fix it using the above microsoft kb solutions. Does anyone know if there is a simple fix for those who aren't experts at editing the registry or who would prefer not to spend several hours doing so on two computers?

Seems unlikely that two different versions of XP on two different computers in my home would just happen to be corrupted. Yet, I didn't find a vast number of questions about this in these forums as I would expect on a commonly known issue either. Did I look in the wrong forums.

If I press ESC the error box vanishes and the computer appears to work fine - but I am afraid it will
develop serious problems if this keeps happening.
Anyone have any insights?

First let me say that I'm horrible with computers. I'm just very CPU ignorant.

That being said here's my problem:

My Dell inspiron mini will show my network and show that it has excellent signal strength. But then it also says limited or no connectivity.
It also gives me this:

network did not assign a network address to the computer

Don't know what to do. I've already tried this:

Reset TCP/IP stack to installation defaults, type: netsh int ip reset reset.log

Reset WINSOCK entries to installation defaults, type: netsh winsock
reset catalog
Reboot machine

None of that worked. What is my next step to fixing my problem?
Thanks a heap

New machine with Windows 8. Exported address book in from 7, and it lodged in People in Outlook. But the address book in Outlook is empty, so there is no auto infill for the To box of a new email, unless I have received an email from that person since the new machine was set up. And even those addresses don't appear in the address book. How can I get addresses from People into Outlook Addresses? Upgrade to 8.1 made no difference.
Many thanks, and best wishes for the Festive Season.

Answer:Address book into People in Outlook, Windows 8, but not into Address Book there

What you imported are Contacts not address book. You can try this article How to Create an Address Book in Outlook | eHow i haven't personally done this though.

I have a DSP connected to a Windows 7 laptop by Ethernet.

The DSP is broadcasting BOOTP packets over the Ethernet and is going to ignore
anything that comes in until it sees data packets in a predefined format. In particular,
it is not going to handle ARP requests (I have no control over this).

The BOOTP packets that the DSP sends contain the DSP's MAC address and essentially
nothing else of use.

My W7 code can read the BOOTP packets and determine the MAC address, but needs to
be able to send data packets to that MAC address.

The manufacturer's recommendation is to set the ARP association by hand; I cannot accept
this and need to do it automatically. CreateIpNetEntry seems to be the way to do this,
but it requires Administrator privilege which seems excessive.

Is there any way to send Ethernet messages to a particular MAC address without either
manual intervention (arp - s) or administrator privileges?

Sorry if this is going to sound dumb, but I've been searching for days now and still no explanation.ADSL/512/1024 contract.IP address - such as - - what does it mean? Please dont hit me with the theory of binay codes and their translation and priorities and subjugations or whatever! That's all I can find on the web and it means nothing to me.What does 125 represent? Is it the country coding? The international ISP's allocated address? What? What does 24 represent? Maybe this is my ISP provider? And the 131? Is this my local ISP? Is this the pipe that I'm located on? Is it some kind of area coding? And the 11? I read somewhere that this was how many other computers are sharing my ADSL line with me.Would someone be kind enough to explain these things to me?Thanks in advance,Rob

I did the typical Google search for the subject and all their suggestions produced nothing.

What I am trying to do is access the management section of a switch I bought on ebay. It's a Telco Systems T5C switch model BTI-0530C-N. I got it for lan parties but i'd also like to mess with it to learn and such. When I try to access it via Hyperterminal, nothing happens. It asks for a password (which I don't have) but it seems as no matter what I do, it stops responding.

Any suggestions?

Answer:Is there a way to find an IP address from a MAC address?

Plug a cross over cable into the device and into your computer. Use ARP command in Windows to map the MAC address to an IP on same subnet as a address you give to your PC ( and work well enough).

Once you have a connection you should be able to change any of the settings you need (Assuming password issues are fixed)

c:\arp -s mac-address-of-deviceClick to expand...

Side note:
Do you have documentation for the device?

I'm in charge of a small office LAN with internet access, lately i'd been informed that in the night shift some guy had bring in his personal laptop and hook into our LAN and access the internet, somehow he'd find out the IP that our ISP assigned from other users' PCs, i'd twice requested our ISP change all our IP but the story just repeat. I've been considering change my 16-port hub/switch to a router (16-port router is not very popular), or try some special software or by proxy, which complicates me in my case is that there're executives that want their PC set with a fix-public IP that allow them to access directly the internet and also access share printers within the LAN using NetBEUI, and also there're 2 IP phone that they use to make long distance calls that also uses fix IPs.

Maybe by binding the MAC address of each PC's network card with their IP address i can restrict the unauthorized hookup access into our LAN ? But whatever approach i choose (via router or software) should have the ability to identify the MAC address and decide if it's senior executive user or an IP phone that uses a public IP and give him(it) a pass-through access or it's a ordinary user and assign him a static IP and limited access.

The proxy software in our server running windows XP is quite simple and had no this level of sophistication, i don't know if this kind of software exists, or if it can be done in windows XP using special to... Read more

I'm the RezCon Assistant for the dorm I'm in, and basically what that means is that I help all 560 of the residents here with their networking issues. As of yesterday, I spotted a rouge DHCP server on the network giving out 10.0.1.x IP addresses, which conflicted with our school's (SDSU) DHCP server. Furthermore, the rouge server isn't setup as a router; those getting IP addresses from it can't get out to the internet. So far it seems like most people are using the school's server, but changing my IP quickly to the 10 range showed three who were, using the Angry IP Scanner. However, this IP Scanner didn't show the MAC address of the server,, only the IP address and the ping time.

Now, in order to take care of this DHCP server, I have to get the MAC address of the computer handing out addresses so that I can search our database for the jack that last used that MAC address. Does anyone have any recommendations on programs that can do this?

By using "a-change MAC address V5.0", I did a test within same LAN, I have got two laptop A and B with Nortel Acess Point.

These laptop are getting IP address form Nortel AP automatically. Type of ip address is 10.70.72.x/24.

IP address for laptop A is , and MAC is 00-91-4C-2A-2B-2C.

IP address for laptop B is, and MAC is 01-80-4C-29-22-29.

I changed the MAC address for laptop B to be same to laptop A (i.e. form 01-80-4C-29-22-29 to 00-91-4C-2A-2B-2C ).

When I changed the MAC address , ip address for B has been changed to be same to the ip address for A as well,,,,,Why ? What is concept ? does it related to ARP protocol ?

I have not received notification message telling me that the are conflict in the ip addresses.

If laptop A tries to access the net first , then Laptop B can not access.

And if laptop B tries to access the net first , then laptop A can not access the net.

I tried to change ip addresses for one of the laptop , and keep MAC address similar for both of them, by configure laptop A manually with existing any ip address within the same LAN (i.e has not been assigned to other PC within LAN) ),,,,,result still same I can not

Answer:MAC address are similar result in similar ip address

Why are you screwing around with the MAC addresses? What are you hoping to accomplish? If you have duplicate MAC addresses for two machines, the network will get very confused. There's a reason they designed to be unique through the whole network...

Hey Guys,

I woke up today and turned on the desktop computer and it has trouble connecting to the internet...and I didn't do anything out of the norm.

My house has 4 PC's (2xlaptops and 2xdesktops) and all are connected to a Netgear FVS318 router, which is connected to a Motorola Broadband modem.

I noticed that the network icon kept appearing and disappearing so I opened up "Network Connections" and observed the bizarre behavior. The Local Area Connection kept repeating -> Acquiring Network Address...Connected...Acquiring Network Address...Connected...Acquiring Network Address...Connected...etc.

I don't know what is wrong and would appreciate some assistance with this problem. Thankyou.

If it helps.
- I had to open up a few ports in my router the previous night to play an online game on one of my laptops. But that shouldn't affect my desktop.
- All of the other computers can access the internet through the router perfectly.
- I've tried making a new network connection. Didn't work.
- I've tried repairing the LAN network
- I tried to repair the 1394 connection but ti said the TCP/IP wasn't enabled and couldn't repair it.

Also, I've read about turning on a service called "Network Location Awareness" ... I don't know what it is but would that help my situation?

Thankyou for your time.
