Preferred Solution: USB Not Detected/Not Showing Up !pls help!

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: USB Not Detected/Not Showing Up !pls help!

Howdy and welcome. It's entirely possible that the usb key has simply failed; they have a finite number of read/writes that can be done before they give up the ghost. If it doesn't work in other computers, I'd say that the key has died and it's time to buy a new one and copy the data you normally use in the dead key to the new one and away you go.

Assuming you have backup of that data, that is. If you don't, it may be gone.

Hallo everyone,

Let me first start off by saying that I studied IT in college (which is around 5years ago, so I'm not a complete newb when it comes to pc's and hardware/software.

Last year I bought a new computer, which had a 320 GB Samsung SATA drive. My old computer had 2 IDE HDDs, one Maxtor drive and one Western Digital HDD.
After installing Windows XP Professional on my new SATA drive, I took out the 2 HDD's from my old computer, and build them into my new pc (this all took place about a year ago). I did this without formatting the HDD's, but all 3 HDDs were showing in windows so it wasn't a problem.

Then I was writing something to my MAxtor HDD and it said there was an I/O problem. It shut the file transfer off, and the Maxtor drive 'disappeared' from windows. About a week later it magically showed up again after booting my pc....
Didn't really think much of it back then because i was hardly using the HDD and the problem was 'solved'.

So last night I wanted to install Windows 7, but before I did I formatted my Maxtor drive, which was still holding the Windows from the other computer it had been in, and used it to store movies, music, applications, etc.
So After I was done transfering files, I booted from my Windows 7 DVD, formatted my C: (Samsung SATA) and installed Windows. After it was done installing, I found out that the Maxtor drive was not showing in my computer, thus not usable for storing and retrieving fil... Read more

The title says it all, even tho i hav a floppy plugged up, it doesnt even show it in my computer

also, my computer displays that I have cd rom and dvd rw drives, but when I try to insert a cd, it doesnt work, i double click on the drive and it tells me to insert a cd

im sure this is very common, because this is happening to most computers that get a little old
ps. one time my cd drive didnt work as described above, and when I replaced the hard drive, the cd drive worked again, so my theory is that maybe it has to do with the amount of junk that i donwload, because I wh0re files alot lol

plz help i need the floppy to work so that i can install my ahci drivers on my new computer (as seen in the other thread i posted)

Answer:my windows xp showing spy ware detected

This is a malware / spyware which pretends to detect a spyware and then takes you to a website to buy the anti-spyware. You may see a seperate alert window, alert in Internet Explorer or alert in the system tray. It seems that your anti-spyware is not working good enuff. Have your system scanned by more than 1 of them: try avg antispyware, a-squared, superantispyware, spyware blaster etc.

In one laptop it is coming as "removable disk" in my computer but when I try to open it ,it is showing "pls insert a disk in to the drive".
In the other laptop it is not even shown as "removable disk".

I have tried some steps mentioned here
but they don't work.

pls. help me...

Answer:pendrive is detected but not showing in MY COMPUTER!

There could be a possibility that the port where USB attached couldn't recognized so try the other slots and wait until finish installing the drivers thus it may show correctly.

Or go to Device Manager and find add new hardware so that it refresh when something new detected.

I ran Malwarebytes because the computer was slow AND I was seeing lots of ad site loading when starting Iron. I do not internet explorer but it is on the computer. now trojan.elex is detected.
as I type this, the bottom left of Iron keep saying waiting for... (bunch of sites) and sends over and over slowing down my typing.

I own a Dell Latitude D630 laptop with Windows 7 Professional Service Pack 1 (32 bit). For reasons that I have not been able to fathom, the Volume Mixer does not show any sound levels -- despite being to hear sound through my desktop speakers and my headphones.
This problem is making it impossible for me to record any audio on my Audacity audio recording and editing software. I'm at a loss as to find out what is causing this problem -- let alone finding a solution to fix it. Help!

I tried upgrading my wifi card to an intel wireless 3165 and the device manager shows that its detected and working. Also, when I first turn on the laptop I can see all the available networks. However, when I try to connect to my network, it fails and then all the available networks disappear with a red mark on the wifi mark. After that I no longer see any networks, thus having no wifi. How do I resolve this issue? What is the problem here?

I am having issues after doing a format of my Main hard drive (C: Drive). My secondary hard drive is not showing up at all now. Not in windows but OK in BIOS. Also not showing in Disk Management I am not sure what to do as I am not familiar with doing secondary hard drives.

Before the reformat the drive was working fine and I have tons of data on it so definitely don't want to reformat THAT drive. Not sure what to do here and any help would be appreciated.

Answer:My IDE Hard Dreive Detected by BIOS but XP is not showing

Disconnect the good drive with all the data on it.
Then format the "Main hard drive C:" and install your operating system. Once that is done, the "secondary" or storage drive will be detected and recognized...
You have to be certain that they are both jumpered as Cable Select or by Main and Slave drives, and taht your cables are good and not damaged by crimpling or any of the wires being pulled out of the drive socket... If SATA, bad SATA cables have been a big problem this year. If EIDE, wires get pulled out of the 80 conductor 40 connector socket. Check carefully with a good light and perhaps a magnifying glass.

My 320 GB Seagate external hard drive is detected but not showing up in my computer. What should I do?

In cmd> diskpart> list volume it does not show up. (screenshot attached)

In Device Manager it gets detected. (screenshot attached)

In disk management it shows up as 'unallocated'. If I initialize it, will I lose all data on the drive? It had 4 partitions. (screenshot attached)

In My Computer also it does not show up. (screenshot attached)
Even BIOS recognizes it.

What to do? I don't want to lose any data on the drive. If I initialize it in device manager will I lose data?

I was installing window XP on my computer, usually I remove the external drive but this time I did not. The external drive was shown as 4 drives in partition manager during installation. But the installation failed. The next time I was installing windows again, the external drive was shown as 1 single unknown or unrecognized drive. I'm not sure if it was unknown or unrecognized. I'm sure I didn't format it. So what I need to do now? I don't want to lose any data.

Answer:Seagate external hard drive not showing up in my computer. It is detected.

Yes, if you initialize it you will 'lose' everything. You will want to try something like [email protected] Recovery or maybe Easeus Partition Recovery.

I recently cleaned up a laptop running Win7 Home Premium. At the time it was running Norton 360, which I removed (showed as expired), and installed AVG Free. I scanned and came up with a bunch of viruses, then ran SuperAntiSpyware and MalwareBytes, which also found a ton of stuff. It is now clean and running really well, with the exception that Windows Action Center shows "Potentially Harmful Software Detected" and gives the option to "clean system" If I tried to clean the system it would launch Windows Defender, but it couldn't start the service. I unistalled AVG and ran sfc /scannow, which now allows Defender to start, but if I clean the system it launches Windows Defender and finds nothing. No matter what I try I cannot get the message to go away. Is there a way to clean action center or manually remove the message?

Hey guys,
Just bought a new BenQ monitor as I'm currently using my brothers whilst he is overseas and needed a new one when he returns shortly. The current monitor is a Samsung, which only connects with a HDMI cable straight to the graphics card. The new monitor does not react when the computer boots, giving simply a "no signal detected" screen. The Samsung doesn't connect when using the blue D-Sub cable. The screen also is reduced about an inch around the edge when the HDMI cable is used (except when gaming where it is full screen). I've tried reinstalling graphics drivers and motherboard drivers, reseating the graphics card and rebooting the computer but so far no luck. Any help would be much appreciated, cheers guys.

It sounds like something is timing out.  It is hard to be sure without swapping either the drive or the MB.  You might go into the BIOS and select diagnostic mode for boot.  That would do a memory test and it might slow things down enough to mask the problem

Today Norton Antivirus began to block threats from Trojan.Zeroaccess.B, Trojan.Gen, Trojan.Gen.2, and Trojan.Zeroaccess.C. I have been prompted to do a manual removal of Trojan.Zeroaccess!inf4 from c:\windows\system32\services.exe. Additionally, Bitcoinminer is being repeatedly detected, blocked and quarantined. I'm not sure if Norton is having a problem deleting/quarantining Bitcoinminer, or if it is actually being downloaded over and over. I suspect that these two problems are related, as they started at the same time.

From what I gather, the fix seems to be quite complicated and I would appreciate some help.

My system is running 64 bit Windows 7 Home Premium w/ SP 1. Looking at similar threads, it looks like I'll need to use a flash drive to run removal tools. I do not currently have a flash drive on hand, but I do have an 4 GB SD card. Will that be a sufficient replacement?

I did a stupid thing yesterday. I downloaded an icon pack APK file on my computer to upload to my mobile. Anyway, the thing is, when I double clicked on it, BlueStacks (Android Emulator) opened up, and Avast started giving me lots of warnings about BlueStacks accessing Trojan URLs (it blocked them of course).
Now, the thing is: I scanned the APK file both in Malware Bytes Anti Malware and Avast (and even Malware Bytes Anti Rootkit), and it showed no virus or malware found. But when I try to attach the the same APK file as a Gmail attachment (which I read on the net detects viruses, which is why I tried it), Gmail gives me a "Virus found" error.
So, my question is how come such reliable antivirus / anti-malware programs like MBAM and Avast didn't detect the virus but Gmail did? And more importantly, (though I have deleted the APK file in question from my computer) is my computer safe? Or has a rootkit / trojan been installed?

Answer:Virus not detected in Avast & MBAM, but detected when I upload the file to Gmail

Keyboard not detected, Mouse not detected. Fatal Error, System Halted.

That's what the system said, in DOS, on the black screen. Of course, I had my mouse and keyboard unplugged at the time, because I had just unplugged everything to move the computer.

Anyways, I plugged the keyboard and mouse in, restarted the computer, and everything started normally.

My question is, what is with this error? Vista can't boot up if I don't have a keyboard and mouse plugged in? It's not a big deal, but it seems like very odd behavior.

Answer:Keyboard not detected, Mouse not detected. Fatal Error, System Halted.

This has nothing to do with Vista whatsoever. As you said it showed up on the black screen with white text, which is the boot screen. The computer hasnt even started loading windows yet. The fatal eror occurs because you have no input device. The computer recognises this, and given that they are important, it puts a warning up that there is no connection.
It is completely normal, really, and whatever OS you have, its going to do the same thing.

Answer:Hitachi Hard disk showing 0 mb in bios & Not showing in windows explorer

QuoteIT show zero bytes in bios and not shown in windows explorer,I see it in Device manager, wit zero space. The Bios recognizing the drive is the lowest level of recognition. If not recognized at this level its usually a jumper setting, cable issue, or Bios needs to be flashed with a newer version. Is this hard drive an IDE (PATA) drive or a newer SATA drive for starters? If it is a IDE (PATA) drive it could be jumper set wrong, (Master(MA), Slave(SL), Cable Select(CS))If its a SATA drive I'd try a different SATA cable with it to rule that out.*I wouldnt jump into flashing your Bios with an update unless you find information supporting a known issue with the version you are running and hard drives. A bad flash can kill certain motherboards that dont have Bios protection that can revert back on wrong or failed flashes.

I should have came to this conclusion sooner, but my current re-installation of Windows has some problems that I haven't had the time to address until now. What I need, though, is access to the repair function on the disk. However, herein lies my problem...

When I boot up, media in the drive or no media, bios does not show the drive in its list. I can still open and close the drive as if nothing is wrong there, but I cannot "boot from CD". I've reset my bios back to defaults and while the drive appeared on IDE Channel 1 in the settings, it still would not recognize ANY media while booting up.

I have the latest version of my bios. I have also tried changing cables. The drive is on an IDE channel by itself.

Once my system boots into Windows, however, the drive is recognized and acts normally as if nothing happened in bios. Media operates fine. I have checked the event viewer, and there are no entries anywhere that states my optical drive has been experiencing problems, and yes, in fact it operates just like it always does.

Can anyone help me get my bios and cdrom back together again? The problem is I just do not know where to start to solve this. I wish I could say how long this has been happening, but I really don't know as of today. There have been no hardware changes in the past three months, and my current installation and configuration began back in late April.

Thanks for your time...

Answer:CD/DVDROM drive - not detected by bios, detected by Windows?

What is the boot sequence in the bios? should be CD or optical drive first, then Hard Drive or IDE-0 second if you want to boot from the cd-drive. Many computer manufacturers set the computer to automatically boot off of the hard drive by default so setting the factory defaults might not be what you are looking for. Look for the screen that has the boot order or sequence and just change it, exit and save settings and restart the computer with the boot cd in the drive. I hope that helps.

I hope you're having a good December. Thanks again for your previous help this past summer!

A scan by TrendMicro picked up several infections, most of which it was able to clean up. But it wasn't able to remove PAR_SE.50425 and PAR_SE.50426. It also says I have a (MS05-004) ASP.NET Path Validation Vulnerability (887219), even though I have automatic Microsoft security updates. The first several minutes of a PandaScan (I didn't have time to finish it) found some SearchMeUp adware.

I'm so sorry, I can't remember how to Hijack This, otherwise I'd post that log, too. Any help you could provide would be greatly, greatly appreciated.

Thanks so much

Hi guys,

I bought a bluetooth dongle off of amazon so I could use my bluetooth headset with my comp. Once plugged in it installs driver version 6.1.7601.17889 from microsoft and there are no yellow '?'s. When I look for devices it sees my headset no probs but will not connect, which it does instantly with phones / tablets etc.

A very detailed search has brought me to the conclusion that it's a problem with the bluetooth driver, not the headset. Unfortunately there are no identifiers on the dongle itself but device manager seems to think it's:

Device type: Bluetooth Radios
Manufacturer: Cambridge Silicon Radio Ltd

Is there anyway I can detect exactly the chipset in the dongle and get the correct drivers installed? Or am I barking up the wrong tree completely?

Answer:Bluetooth dongle detected, items detected but not connecting.

Hi guys, I am fairly new to this website and would absolutely LOVE if someone could help me figure out this problem.

I have an Alienware Windows 7 M17 laptop (I know, everyone hates alienwares but I don't have enough time to build my own)
The laptop has a build in SoundBlaster Recon3Di, with an intel display audio. This problem just started happening yesterday before I went to work, and when I came back the headphones wouldn't work. I thought the headphones were the problem so I tried testing them on two different computers and they weren't working.

I went to get some new ones, and tried plugging them in and they didn't pick up either. The jacks do show that they pick up when the headphones are plugged in, just no sound will play. Speakers work perfectly fine but I listen to music all the time and need to have headphones that work. The laptop is fairly new so I know it's not a problem that persists with that..

Updated ALL of the drivers persisting to sound
Disabled and uninstalled all drivers and restarted the computer

If there's anything else I should add, please let me know. I just cannot figure out why it would suddenly stop working

Answer:Headphone not showing up in playback devices; jack saying it's showing up. No sound.

Sorry guys, forgot to add this into the main post.

I have just built a new computer, using Windows 7 Pro 64 bit, however, I've noticed when I open Windows explorer, 3 out of 4 times it will continuously search for drives when opening up explorer and not show any drives that are installed. I've tried reformatting, using different hard drives, but the problem persists no matter what I do. I've reinstalled Windows 7 with only a single drive plugged in, tried different SATA ports, but this problem keeps coming back. The only thing I can think of is that the Windows 7 install disk is corrupted and not installing properly.

I've also noticed that once it starts searching like this, the icons wont display in any folder, although the file names will. Likewise, when trying to sort files by date, type, etc, they will not sort.

When this happens, I can easily type in C:\ to get to the drive without problem to access the drive but above problems with icons not showing, sorting, etc still is a problem.

Has anyone had this problem? Know of a way to fix this? I'm not looking forward to having to reformat again as I don't have the time to sit through and reinstall everything again after.

Answer:Drives not showing, folders/file icons/thumbnails not showing

Have recently formatted my laptop and re installed Windows on my normal HDD because i have a small SSD since formatting my SSD and deleting and renewing the old partition, in windows explorer and disk management i can no longer see my SSD. I can see my SSD in Bios and in the Intel Rapid storage technology app, but cannot understand why i cannot use my SSD, Any help would be much appreciated.

Kind regards

Answer:SSD not showing in Disk Management, but showing on Intel Rapid Storage

Could we get some more information?

Does this laptop have 2 hard drive bays? Did it always have 2 hard drives?
What does "deleting and renewing the old partition" mean?

What I suspect is that the SSD has a partition that is still marked ACTIVE. Windows will boot from one Active partition and ignore the other. So if the SSD has just one partition that is marked active then the whole drive would be ignored.

If you deleted the partition in Disk Management or some 3rd party program then that would have taken care of the Active flag on that partition. But if you just deleted the contents of the partition that would have left the flag.

Let us know what you did.

EDIT: I should add: any partition that contained an operating system will have the active flag. This is not something you would have had to do yourself.

I am trying to remove empty folders using Remove Empty Directories. I know of a few that are empty, and just ran a test to see if RED would detect they were empty. Well, to my surprise, I am finding that RED shows 1 (or more) file in these folders (a JPG at 0.00 MB), but it's not showing up in the folder. Is there any way I can have these show up in folders so I can search for all JPG's and delete them? Example:

I do have "Show hidden files, folders and drives" checked under folder options as well.

Answer:File not showing up in folder, but showing up in Remove Empty Directori

You could try running JPG Cleaner v2.6

I use this software on a regular basis. I'd suggest limiting it's use to only one problem folder on your machine as a test run.

Run the program with admin rights then from the GUI choose Add Folder then browse to your test folder. Additionally choose the option to delete Unknown Files and also untick the option to Create Backup Files.

Then choose Start and when the cleanup is completed there is an option to save a log file. Save the log file somewhere and have a look at it to view the results.

Additionally you could run the program again choosing the Delete Corrupt Files option.

If you're happy with the results - go ahead and add the other remaining folders or directories to be cleaned.

I've never encountered any problems using this software but as always before running any sort of cleaning product it's best to at least create a system restore point to fall back on and ideally have a system image backup handy.

I have a game in my pen drive that is splits second, my friend had given this pen drive to me, but windows explorer is showing that this drive is empty, i have checked it if it is hidden but still it's not showing after i had changed settings for hidden files, and i had checked the drive properties, it is showing that 3.07 GB free of 7.44 GB, please help me...

Answer:File folder is not showing in my pen drive, showing it is empty.

The problem could be because all the data that was present inside the pen drive now have become system files by the virus. This is the reason why they are not visible even with the option “Show Hidden files and folders”.
To remove the problem this is what you need to do.
1. Go to Folder Options -> View tab
2. Make sure that your Show Hidden files and folders option is enabled.
3. Uncheck the option that reads “Hide protected operating system files (recommended)”

Now when you see your pen drive, you will find that your data is present there but in hidden form. There are 2 ways to unhide the data, either right click and uncheck the Hidden box or type in the following command in the command prompt
attrib filename –h –r –s
where filename is the complete location of the file.

Let me know if it solved your problem.

I have a toolbar on my taskbar titled "Programs". It has about eight folders in it. I made another toolbar, and placed it directly adjacent to the Programs toolbar, to obscure the eight folders and force it to be a dropdown menu.

Trouble is, as soon as I lock my taskbar, right next to the arrow that displays the eight items of my Programs toolbar in menu-form, one of the eight items is showing up as an icon, as if the other toolbar isn't close enough to the Programs toolbar in order to completely obscure the eight items.

Here's what I mean in graphic form:

It's bugging me to no end. Anyone else had this problem/resolved it?

Answer:Toolbar on taskbar should only be showing an arrow but is showing icon

Hello thewonkits, and welcome to Seven Forums.

I notice this happens when using small icons for a toolbar. If you like, you could unlock the taskbar, right click on the dotted separator line to the left of the two top far left toolbars (one at a time) click on View and Large Icons, then lock the taskbar to see if that may look ok to you. It will make the top row a bit bigger though.

Hopefully someone may know a better way to hide that bit of icon poking out when locked.

I was updating my graphics driver and had to restart the pc. When it started booting back up it took like 10 minutes to get to the windows login screen. Then I noticed that some of my program icons were missing. So when trying to figure out why I noticed my harddrive was missing in explorer. When I go to Disk Management this is what I see Disk 1 is a mechanical drive that was working fine before updating my graphics driver. Right Clicking on it gives me these options ( Convert To Basic Disk, Reactivate, Offline) I tried to reactivate but nothing happens.

Anyone got any ideas how to fix this error or repair the drive? I can't repair it with chkdsk cause the volume isn't showing up for it.

This is what the properties of the drive says if it helps

Answer:Hard Drive Showing Error And Not Showing Up In Explorer

Hi. For starters, that first partition (D) shouldn't have a letter at all. It's a system, boot partition and with a letter to it some programs or even you can mistakenly use it.
Disk 1 does have a problem but drivers are installed to C: partition and nowhere else (part of the system) so it's not probable that driver is the cause of it obliviously failing. If you know it's make and model you could download and use a program for it's manufacturer to check it: One from here: Download Hard Disk Drive (HDD) Tools Tools for Windows - MajorGeeks or from it's manufacturer's site. Until you know it's real physical shape you will not be able to troubleshoot it properly.

I am running the following system on a Dell Inspiron:
Vista Home Premium 64bitPentium Dual-Core 2.7ghz4.0gb RAM500 GB HD
My HD says it is 99% full. However, I have read all of the posts here for assistance, used disk clean-up, culled unwanted programs/files etc. and the size continues to grow.

I ran WinDirStat and it shows that only approx. 133gb is being used -- which is far more realistic.

I have ran a full system virus scan with Bitdefender.

What else can be the problem?

Thanks for your quick attention. I appreciate your help.

Hello,I have had this computer less than 2 months. Yoga 11s.   I have not transferred any of my files from my old computer; have only downloaded a couple of simple apps and the MS office and the occasional movie and my computer is saying my HD is full.  Today I tried to download a movie only 600 mb and it paused and said I don't have enough space tho when I look, there is more than 2 GB on my HD.  The other fun thing that I've spent hours trying to figure out is that my windows 8 OS is also showing full memory; again have barely done anything on this computer.  It offered the disk check bit where it compresses and gets rid of old files, but 1 hour later, bet the same message and it's showing RED--almost at max capacity. So frustrated. Can you offer any suggestions?

Hi all,

This is my first build and I am so close yet it feels so far away. I'm at the final step of installing Windows 10 onto my PC I have a bootable USB drive connected and everything goes smoothly until I have to select a hard drive!

I have a Mushkin Enhanced Reactor 2.5" 1Tb with a Asus ROG Maximus VIII Hero LGA 1151 intel z170. As you can see from the photos below, the ssd is detected in the bios but not in the hard drive. I'm booting it with UEFI USB priority. It's a clean ssd do I have to reformat it?

I am not sure whether drive 0 Unallocated space is my ssd but it also says it has 0 free space. I am super confused please help!

Welcome to the TenForums @Roketmann

If this is a brand new drive it needs to be initialized. Click the word "New" in the screen shot you provided. It will then want to create a partition.

You should then be able to install windows, it will tell you that it will create additional partitions.

Not sure what your strategy is for using 1TB. Are you going to have boot partition (windows will create some small ones it needs) and data drive(s) or one large C:drive

So I just stuck a 1TB SATA HD in my computer, and it's not showing up when I open up My Computer. I've re-started about half a dozen times. I went into the BIOS, and the BIOS sees it. I have very little exerpeience with SATA so maybe I'm just doing something stupid. FWIW, my main HD is on SATA 1 and the new HD is on SATA 3. PLZ HALP!! Thanks

Answer:New SATA HD not showing up in computer; showing up in BIOS

what's happening is the drive hasn't been formatted so it's not showing up in windows because there isn't really anything there. You have to go to disk management and format the drive.

Okay so this is the second time I have come across this issue. The first time I ran deep virus and malware scans to no avail, ran CCleaner and updated all drivers as well as checking startup items and finding nothing unusual. I ended off having to re-install windows and this fixed this issue for a couple of months but its now returned and I have no idea whats causing it, it slows my PC down horribly making gaming and general use basically impossible.

I have tried updating drivers, virus and malware scans as well as running advanced systemcare again with no result. It goes without saying that the random usage doesn't add up on task manager, everything at idle will add up to about 15% which is what realtemp reports however displays 100% usage at the top. Its also worth noting that the temps get no higher than 35 degrees celcius.

My current build:
Gigabyte RX480 Gaming 4G
16GB DDR4 Corsair Vengeance LED 2666MHz
Gigabyte H110M-S2H

If this is posted in the wrong forum I really do apologize, I couldn't quite find one it fit into any better than this.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Answer:Windows 10 CPU usage showing 100%, RealTemp only showing ~15%

Hi DoctorFlash.

You may wish to use a tool like Process Explorer, part of sysinternals to get a better view of what is happening.

I learned from @Borg386 you can also do some virus checking within tool, which I haven't done myself. You can google this to determine if right for you.

" You can also use it to check all processes to see if there is malware present. Go to Options/VirusTotal/Check Click on it, accept the agreement & it will show the results in a column on the left. "

After a long fight with my ideapad S10-2 to install windows 7, i am facing a strage problem now !!! The HDD now has 2 partitions: C: that contains win7 installation & the recovery partition i hava changed the boot order to be: 1- IDE0: the HDD itself 2-USB HDD 3-Network boot (realtk something !!) When i first boot the netbook, it proceeds to the network boot then displays a message : "no bootable devices found insert a disk and press any key". On that first boot, if i press F12 to select boot device, i don't find the HDD, only the realtk network adapter. After i receive the "no bootable devices" message i press ctrl+alt+del , the laptop is rebooted & the windows is loaded !!!! my guess is that the HDD is acting slower than the bios, so the bios overlooks it !!! i have tried to find a way on the BIOS to add a delay so that the HDD becomes ready, but there is no such option !! i have even tried to add it as the second last boot option, with the network boot being the last option, but still no luck !!! what should i do ?? thanx in advance

Answer:S10-2 HDD not detected on first boot, detected after reboot

hi mohabayman,
Can you try to:
1. Boot into the BIOS and set PXE Boot to LAN = Disabled (if applicable).
2. Reseat the HDD (see page 56-59 of the User's Guide for instructions)
If the unit is still slow, I recommend you run a diagnostic to test the HDD's health. Try to download and install HD Tune and run the diagnostics in Windows.

I went to connect today and my dialup connection was gone.  I thought, well, I'll recreate it....but Windows would not let me and said (in the Connect to a Network box):  "Windows could not detect a dialup modem", "Is the modem connected?", "is the modem switched on?"
It is an internal modem.
I went to Device Manager, and there it is as usual, "This device is working properly".

Answer:Dialup modem detected, but not detected, huh?

Doing some searching gave me this solution:
It is caused by certain services being shut off for unknown reasons.... definitely unknown in my case (??).
Delete or rename the following folder:
(the folder, rtbackup)
However, it has some kind of protection and doesn't allow itself to be so changed.  I did it from a DOS boot disk with NTFS4DOS.
Everything is working.

Hello, I recently bought a Probook 450 G4, i7 7500U with 1 TO HDD and 8GB RAM. I wanted to upgrade it with an SSD so I bought a ADATA Premier SP550 2280 M.2 SSD. The BIOS detected it normally, but windows installer wouldn't find it. I removed the HDD and tried again, same issue. I then installed windows 10 on the HDD to try and format the SSD in windows and surprise! no sign of the SSD nowhere, not in browser nor in Disk Managment or Diskpart. Apparently HP disabled the M.2 port in BIOS as mentioned here ( ) I updated the BIOS the the latest version provided by HP for my laptop model and the same issue is still ongoing, this is a 120$ SSD that I can't use nor return as the problem is the HP product not ADATA's SSD! The simplest solution is in the hands of HP, just release a BIOS update with the M.2 port ENABLED ! why brag about having a M.2 port in your products and then DISABLE it ?! Any insights please ? Many Thanks. PS: I started a new thread yesterday and it is no longer available now ! did HP remove it or what ? it was there for a while and I'm sure! what a shame !

I picked up a computer off craiglist was thoroughly enjoying my gtx geforce 680 ( ) when it "crashed" about 6 hours after purchase. When I rebooted I received the "no hard disk detected" message. Upon launching bios setup the hard drive is listed with details as being attached to its corresponding sata port. I am trying to determine if my hard drive is broken or if it needs remounting or some other sort of procedure.

The hard drive is a slightly dated WD Carver 1 TB SATA internal drive interacting with an asus motherboard. I did notice the boot order for drives had been rearranged putting an external and an optical disk drive in position 1 and 2 for boot directories. I disabled both the external and optical disc and selected the WD sata drive as the first preference for booting. Still I am getting the same error. I read somewhere that if the bios is recognized in setup but is still not recognized for booting that I may need to run a 32bit diagnostic. The forum I saw the diagnostic post mentioned on was in reference to a dell machine. I don't really know what this is or if it exists on my ASUS mother board.

In short: how can I tell If my hard drive needs replacement?

If Bios recognizing the drive is sign of life how can I get my computer to recognize this drive again?

My laptop has suddenly started running CHKDSK during startup. After it completes and finishes booting I go to Properties > Tools > Error Checking of my C drive and click ?Check?. It says errors were found on this drive and to repair drive now to prevent data loss. I click to run it, the system reboots, I see the prompt to cancel CHKDSK by pressing any key, let it run, the screen remains blank with just the little spinning dots. It finishes (in less than a minute, which is faster than it usually takes) and loads to desktop. I check the C drive properties again and it still says there are errors and to repair.

Running CHKDSK from CMD prompt I get ?Windows has scanned the file system and found no problems. No further action is required.? Running a 3rd-party disk checker (Disk Doctor, Tune-Up Utilities) also reports no errors. Yet the properties dialog continues to warn that there are errors.

I can?t be certain when this started. Just noticed this yesterday when I booted up (I don?t usually stick around and watch the computer boot). Windows has all the latest updates/patches. This is an HP ENVY laptop that came with Windows 10 pre-installed.

Anyone have any ideas?

Answer:Inconsistent error warnings: Errors detected, yet no errors detected

I believe I solved it.

I booted into the recovery menu and then advanced options. I chose Command Prompt then ran the command CHKDSK C: /F

At Stage 3 it found errors and repaired them:
Errors in MFT bitmap attribute
Errors in volume bitmap

Afterwards, booting up and checking the drive status it now reports no errors finally. I guess the CHKDSK procedure didn't detect these errors when running during bootup. The other disk scanners I tried didn't pick them up either. This seems to have fixed it.

ESS Modem

OK - When I look at Device Manager, the modem shows up. When I go to Properties / Diagnostic / Query Modem, it is fine.

When I run Juno, it is able to successfully retrieve e-mail (it just dials and connects).

I CANNOT connect to the web - Juno says that there is no modem installed. Upon further investigation, when I go to Connections and try to add a new connection, I am not allowed a choice of using a modem.

So - Device Manager and Juno E-mail both think that the modem works fine. Connection Wizard and Juno WWW both think that no modem exists.

I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling the modem, to no avail. Oh, and yes, it used to work, and I can't get the user to remember a specific time when it stopped working.

Suggestions? Thanks in advance!

My Kingston Data
Traveller 8 GB drive (1 yr old) is not getting detected on my new PC (2 weeks old). It was working perfectly on my old pc, and is working fine on my office PC, frnd's PC, Philips DVD player, Sony HiFi audio system.

My mobo is Biostar TA785GE 128M, OS is win xP Pro 32 bit. The drive is detected on all USB ports of mobo, but as soon as I start any data transfer, it crashes and i get error that data cannnot be transfered.

The Disk Management (My Computer - Manage) shows the drive as healthy, but after I start any file transfer, in a few seconds, it reads "Unreadable". Sometimes, the drive letter also goes missing. In brief, the drive is displayed in My Computer till any file transfer is initiated. As soon as any file trnsfr starts, I get error that file transfer is not complete and the drive goes missing.

My frnd's UsB drive (2 GB), and my old 256 mb drive, both work and files are transferred which removes the doubt that there is some prob in USB ports. As the 8gb pen drive works on other PCs and devices, so i guess the drive is okay. I ran HDtune for it, and it has no bad sectors. That leaves my OS as the culprit (I assume). Looks like there is some problem in the way XP maps the USB drive.

I've tried many things, and here is my observation:

* Changed drive letter to other letters, but to no avail. Changed drive letter to a working USB drive letter, but failure again.
* Formatted many times, but data transfe... Read more

I have two NAS devices on my network. One is a Western Digital MyCloud 4TB, the other a Seagate GoFlex Home 3TB. On my desktop, both show up as storage devices in the Network and File dialogue boxes. On the laptop, the neither show up at all on the File
dialogue boxes. If I select the reload icon, they appear for a moment then disappear. Under the Network  dialogue, the WD shows as a storage device but the Seagate only shows as a media UPNP device. As I have a few TB of data on the Seagate it'd really
be nice to access it from the laptop as well as from the desktop. Are there any specific settings I should look for? I can't find anything under the Seagate Dashboard.

Für Elise - Support the Heart & Breast Cancer Foundations.

Answer:NAS not showing or only showing as UPNP

Yes, Network Discovery is on. I think I may have just fixed it. I turned off network discovery, accepted the change, then turned discovery back on and accepted the change. The Seagate shows up. Fascinating. Gotta love Windows.

I installed a 2TB Hitachi a couple weeks ago, backed up my system, all was well.

But it's started not recognizing the device and restarts do not solve anything. It's not even recognized in Disk Management.

Also, possibly related, it is showing this phantom CD Drive (D:). I have NEVER had more than one DVD Drive installed (has always been E:) and it's been the same one since I built this computer. There's nothing wrong with E:, either.

Any ideas?

- I run Windows XP
- I run my PC almost 24x7 from last .. I don't remember exactly.
- I have 40 GB as main HDD (4 partition) & 300GB (4 partition) as secondary.
- Last December, I got my 250GB seagate HDD replaced by the 300GB one, as the old one had heating issues .
- Specs : AMD sempron, 768GB RAM, 40+300GB HDD, nvidia Gard.

As you all know there is the sidebar which shows up links and details in the explorer view, my computer, folder etc. Now today morning, I was working as usual and once I opened "My Computer" and did not find the sidebar as I didn't change any settings.

It felt weird so I restarted the PC, my desktop search alerted me that it could not open few drives. I opened "My Computer", but now it wasn't showing anything but searching with its flashlight.

I opened the cabinet and the HDD was really hot (as usual) so I switched the PC off and let it cool for sometime. After few hours when it the HDD cool, I started the PC, everything was working fine but the folder view is still without sidebar.

Anything one this is appreciated. Thanks

Please download the TDSS Rootkit Removing Tool ( and save it to your Desktop. <-Important!!!Be sure to print out and follow all instructions for performing a scan or refer to these instructions with screenshots.Extract (unzip) the file to your desktop and make sure TDSSKiller.exe (the contents of the zipped file) is on the Desktop itself, not within a folder on the Desktop. A question that I could not seem to find a direct answer to:

I have IE8 32 and IE8 64 running on WIN7 64 with Norton Internet Security 2010. Both show a cipher strength of 256 under Help/About. When I run a cipher test on a site like it shows both as running a 128 cipher, not 256. Other browsers such as Chrome and Firefox show 256 on tests, as listed in their browser info. I have tried different adjustments in IE8 to TLS settings, SSL settings as well as Security Level and I tried using Compatibility Mode all with the same result.

PC is running fine and don't have any issues with accessing networks or Banking sites but I find this scenario very peculiar and frankly annoying. Is there's something I should adjust settings wise? Does IE8 revert to 128 under certain circumstances? Why is IE8 not using a 256 cipher when it says it is 256?

Answer:IE8 showing 256 cipher under Help/About, but showing 128 cipher on tests?

I found an interesting post on another website by a Mr. Chris R. Chapman. The author explains what I had guessed about this situation.

Today, a friend remarked to me that according to an SSL framecheck site he uses (Fortify SSL Check) his 64?bit Win7 + IE8 configuration was registering as 128 bit AES by default, and not ? as he anticipated ? 256 bit AES (as FireFox does, for example).

This is true and by design: The IE team made a conscious decision to trade off cipher strength for speed, since 128 bits is sufficient for securing most channels reliably and not impact speed on HTML-heavy sites. However, what if you do want 256?bit AES cipher strength as the default for securing IE?s channel? Fear not ? here?s the resolution I was able to surface:

1.Launch ?Edit Group Policy? from the Start menu.
2.Navigate to Computer Configuration?>Administrative Templates?>SSL Configuration Settings via the treeview control.
3.Note that in the right pane, the entry is not enabled ? double-click the entry to bring up the edit dialog and select the ?Enable? radio button.
4.In the text box under Options on the left side, paste-in the comma-delimited list from the following file: File Attachment: ie8_ciphersuites_group_policy.txt (1 KB)
5.Click OK and close off the policy editor dialog.
7.Navigate to the Fortify site and verify that AES 256 is your default cipher strength.
The ?magic? that makes this happen is in the list of ciphers which are parse... Read more

Even though I haven't completely touched it inside the CPU
It started glitching out I can't see the 2 drives in My Computer, sometimes I even go to disk management and rescan disk and it appears, but after a few minutes it disappears again.
I checked Event Viewer is this is the constant error I get.

I can't see also the third Drive in Device Manager, only the other two appear.
I can't diskcheck the missing drives. If I try to diskcheck them while I can see it, it will stop since the drives will disappear.

You are aware this is a Windows 7 forum?

XP is the alley next door.

OLD HD and weird noises, usually means: IT'S DEAD JIM. [or about to be]

Yes, I realize your name is Robert and don't call me Shirley.

Whenever a HD is making audible weird noises regularly, that is a sign of death is coming.... so much so that it should be backed up immediately and replaced, then wiped and disposed of.
[Using a sledgehammer is very very very satisfying! ]

Typically HD's get max 4 year warranty, that is what they gamble on, as it lasting for, as a minimum and not a bad idea to use that time frame as thinking about replacing one especially on a regularly used day to day PC.

Probably IDE drive, if you want a replacement, is a good place that still sells smaller old school (now) IDE fare.

Recently i upgraded almost all of my hardware, including the hard disk drive, and was all set to assemble it all and transfer my files from the old 40GB Maxtor Fireball 3 but it didn't work.

The old drive is not being detected at bootup by any computer I plug it into, not the 'new pc' not the 'old pc' and not my dad's pc either, despite it working perfectly fine up until two days ago.

The disk has Windows XP installed on it though I shouldn't think that has anything to do with it since the bios isn't picking it up at all, it indicates it as "none" after taking an above-average time to scan for IDE drives.

The fault is not with the cable I am using either since that has proven itself at connecting both a seperate hard disk and a dvd-rom drive. Even more confusing is when both hard disks are connected with the same cable, the problem one as a slave, neither are detected.

This is starting to become the bane of my life, if anyone can help I would be extremely grateful.

Thanks in advance.

Some days ago appeared the error "513 front chassis fan not detected" on boot the PC. Really the pc never has the front fan... I had update the bios to last version (L02 v02.49). Now the error is: "511 CPU fan not detected"... But the CPU fan is clean and rotate normally. I had also run the complete test of HP Diagnostic Tools, but there is not error. What is the problem? I really need to replace the CPU fan? Or it is a fake error? Thanks

I had that same problem, check your cable or power cord going to it first, could be loose or have a short in them...then reboot your computer

Hi! I just got myself a new Dell/Seagate Constellation ES 2TB SATA3 HDD. The S/N is ST2000NM0001. I want to point out that on the from of the HDD, there was something about SAS (Serial Attached SCSI), but I'm not sure what that means. I also want to let you know that it doesn't have the normal ports (1 SATA cable + 1 power cable), but it has something which combines these together. So, I bought this from ebay: SFF 8482 SAS Cable.

So, I connected my HDD to the mobo through this cable. BTW, my mobo is an ASRock H61M (All details about my pc are at the bottom). When I turned on my pc, nothing is detected. I entered bios and the SATA2 ports that were use by my HDD were not detected! I have no idea what to do.

I had another normal SATA2 HDD 160GB, and I tried it with the cable (I know the cable isn't used for it, but I tried it anyways) to test the cable. At that time, I thought maybe the cable was broken, because it was from China. BUT, when I turned on my pc, it was detected! So the cable was not wrong.

I had bought 2 of the same HDD's (The 2TB ones). You must know that I bought them from my friend who went to Malaysia I believe and got them for a discount. So I tested the other one, but, it also didn't work!

So what I'm thinking is, 1: I have bought 2 HDD's for nothing because they are broken
2: Something is not compatible (maybe the mobo).
3: Something that I am not thinking
Please help me guys I would really appreciate it!

Thanks ... Read more

Answer:New HDD not Detected!! PLEASE HELP!!

You cannot use SAS drives on a SATA controller, SAS drives are for servers that have SAS controllers. Return/exchange the drives for the proper SATA drives or buy an expensive SAS controller, the cheap controllers don't work very well.

I just upgraded from 24mb to 64mb but at start up and in system properties it still says 24mb. I have 2 168dimm slots I pulled the 24mb card and put in the 64. it works, no different than before, and I cant find a way to make windows recognize the new card. I've gone through everything in bios and cant find anything related to memory. its using the card but not at the capacity its rated, how do I make windows realize its a new card.

Question: HDD not detected?

Hi all,

I'm setting up my brother's new computer for him. All working fine except his mobo-HDD connection is the old eIDE and the HDD I have for him is a SATA.

As the title of the thread suggests, when I go to install windows, I receive the notification that the PC cannot detect a hard drive. I have installed an IDE-SATA HDD adaptor on the motherboard. This adaptor (in the IDE slot on the mobo) has both a 4-pin power connection and a cable connecting it to the HDD. I also bought a second adaptor (LP4-SATA connector) as the PSU had no SATA connectors. So both the adapter and the HDD are powered.

The hard drive is a WD Caviar Green 1TB SATAII internal drive. I have already had to replace it once as the first one I sent was damaged on arrival. Admittedly I haven't had the chance to check the integrity of this drive yet, and will do so asap.

However, if we assume that the hard drive is fine, can anyone help me identify what the problem may be? The HDD doesn't need jumper settings set. The only possible reasons I can think of (other than a faulty hard drive) are:
- the 1TB is too large for the motherboard to take
- one/both of the adapters are for SATA, not specifically SATAII (though as SATAII is backwards compatible, I'm not sure this should make a difference)
- the hard drive requires too much power from the 250W PSU (this is unlikely I think)

I have checked the connections multiple times and all seems to be seated correctly and securely. I have pr... Read more

Answer:HDD not detected?

Assuming the drive is pre-LBA 48 then you would still the drive, but only 137GB of it, so this is not the problem, the drive is not too large.

You did not mention what version of Windows your are installing, but I am assuming XP?

What you need to do is make a floppy disk with the SATA controllers drivers on it. During Windows setup you strike F6 to load SCSI drivers, point the install at the floppy and load the drivers, then Windows Setup can see the controller, and drive.

The controller's manual or website should have more precise intructions on this procedure, but the overall gist will be the same.

After this installation will be as normal.

Question: Fan not detected

I'm using MotherboardMonitor 5 to keep on eye on temps (currently 36C CPU
Anyway, I have two case fans installed with one powered by the mobo sensor plug...this one is not showing up on MBM5. I checked the BIOS, it's not detected there either. I don't have any other sensor plugs (one used for CPU, other for other case fan.)
Is it just a bad plug? Powers the fan though...hmm

Answer:Fan not detected

The fan may not support monitoring.
Has it got 3 wires? If not, no monitoring.

Even some 3 wire ones dont support it, the 3rd wire is unused.

Question: SSD Not Detected

Windows 7 32 bit
HP Pavilion dv6700 laptop from 2008

Sorry for the obscure title, but it's a little hard to explain in a few words.

Okay, so I installed Windows 7 on my new PT64GS25SSDR ~ Patriot Torqx TRB. It worked fine. I booted into Windows and everything. Then I go to restart, uh oh, operating system not found! Okay, load up the Windows disc, oh, it can't find Windows 7 on my computer! Eventually, with enough CTRL ALT DELing at the Operating System Not Found prompt, it boots into Windows just fine.

So basically here's the issue: the drive isn't regconized when turning on the computer from a cold start, or restarting (and I can't use Sleep anymore either as it tries to load the hard drive, can't, then just BSOD's).

The only way around this, is taking the drive out and putting it back in. Any time I do this, it boots just fine.

Though like I said, sometimes... I can get it to boot after CTRL ALT DELing many many times at the Operating System Not Found prompt. Thankfully I don't restart or shutdown often, so this is a minor inconvenience, but still... I'd rather it didn't happen at all. I'm using the adapter that came with my computer which was attached to my traditional hard drive ([adapter]&intcatalogref=111510 ). Any help to resolve this issue is most appreciated!
