I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Howdy,

First, I edityed out you email before the web crawlers rendered it totally useless. They are just searching for a few new, valid email addresses to cram with spam.

Please print out or copy this page to Notepad. Make sure to work through the fixes in the exact order it is mentioned below. If there's anything that you don't understand, ask your question(s) before proceeding with the fixes. You should not have any open browsers when you are following the procedures below.

Go to My Computer->Tools/View->Folder Options->View tab and make sure that 'Show hidden files and folders' (or 'Show all files') is enabled. Also make sure that Display the contents of System Folders' is checked. Windows XP's search feature is a little different. When you click on 'All files and folders' on the left pane, click on the 'More advanced options' at the bottom. Make sure that Search system folders, Search hidden files and folders, and Search subfolders are checked.

For the options that you checked/enabled earlier, you may uncheck them after your log is clean. If we ask you to fix a program that you use or want to keep, please post back saying that (we don't know every program that exists, so we may tell you to delete a program that we think is bad to keep).

Turn off system restore by right clicking on My Computer and go to Properties->System Restore and check the box for Turn off System Restore. Click Apply and then OK. Restart your computer. After... Read more

Question: for FE's attention

it appears that a posting on the forum by me has been removed. it was to do with unlocking mobile's that are locked to a certain network and you wished to unlock the phone to take a sim card from another network. it was posted as many people will go to shops and pay 10/20 for this service, when there are ways of doing this for nothing.as far as i know, the program that i put a link to cannot unlock a phone or simcard that has been locked by the mobile operators because it is stolen, nor would i post such details if i knew of such software or condone such activities.i apologise if my posting appeared to condone such actions and broke any of the forums rules. we all know we like things for nothing and was only trying to be helpful to thoughs that would like to unlock there phones and have a choice of mobile operator rather than spend more money on another mobile just to change operators.

Answer:for FE's attention

goonerbillFE might be busy, why not contact him direct I am sure he will try and be helpfulJim.PS I am sure I have had a few things removed at some time, just don?t take it personal.

Lotsa nasties there......You need to start with some tools to soften them up a bit....

==========

Turn off system restore by right clicking on My Computer and go to Properties->System Restore and check the box for Turn off System Restore. Click Apply and then OK. Restart your computer. After we are finished with your log file and verified that it's clean, you may turn it back on and create a new restore point.

You have the Peper infection. Download PeperUninstall. Make sure you are connected online to run this program. Run it once and reboot. Then run it again for the second time. Download PeperFix and save it to your Desktop. Run it and click Find and Fix (reboot if prompted).

Please download Ad-aware SE and install it if you don't have it already. Make sure it's the newest version and check for any updates before running it. Also go here to get the plug-in for fixing VX2 variants. To run this tool, go into Ad-aware->Add-ons and select VX2 Cleaner. Then click Run Tool and OK to start it. If it's clean, it will say Status System Clean. Otherwise, you will have to click on the Clean button to remove the VX2 infection. Also make sure to customize the settings in Ad-aware for better scan results. Run the scan and fix everything that it finds.

If you have a fast internet connection (broadband), run an online virus scan at TrendMicro. Just follow the instructions on the site to run the online scan. Otherwise, make sure your antivirus program ha... Read more

Hi and Welcome

Please follow our standard cleaning procedures which are necessary for us to provide you support. Also there are steps included for installing, running, and posting HijackThis logs as attachments.
Run ALL the steps in this Sticky thread READ & RUN ME FIRST Before Asking for Support
Make sure you check version numbers and get all updates.
Very Important: Make sure you tell us the results from running the tutorial...was anything found? Were you unable to complete any of the scans?...Were you unable to download any of the tools?...Did you do the on-line scans as suggested? etc.

After doing ALL of the above you still have a problem make sure you have booted to normal mode and run the steps in the below link to properly use HijackThis and attach a log:
Downloading, Installing, and Running HijackThis

Make sure you also rename HijackThis.exe as suggested in the procedures. Use analyse.exe for the new name. This is very important due to some new infections going around.

When you return to make your next post, make sure you attach the following logs and that you have run these scans in the following order too:
CounterSpy - ONLY IF you were not able to run Windows Defender
Bitdefender - from step 6
Panda Scan - from step 6
runkeys.txt - the log from GetRunKey.bat
newfiles.txt - the log from ShowNew.bat
HijackThis

NOTE: You can only attach 3 files in a single message so it will require that you use two messages to attach all of these logs!

Alright I have asked this many times without any response and I was hoping thats someone can help. I cannot burn cd's. I use Nero and Alcohol 120%, but it freezes every time I try and burn. I used to burn cd's all the time, but it has been a few months. I have tried everything I could think of. I updated every possible driver and my bios, I even reformatted. No luck.

SYMPTOMS
1. Drive reads cd's fine
2. When I try to burn a CD sometimes it sounds like the drive is spinning up and sometimes it doesnt
3. Drive spins up to .3kbps for about 2 seconds and goes to 0 when burning
4. Occasionally a cd will be successful (1 out of 30)

So I would really appreciate it if someone can help. It is seriously driving me insame. Thanks in advance

Answer:Does my Computer need attention?

Good evening.

I'm a little confused - you say that your PC isn't demonstrating any odd behaviour but are wondering if it needs any attention. Do you have any reason at all to think that the PC has any issues?

Hi MateThanks for helping me with our work PC and clearing all the spyware etc.....is there any possibilty you could now do the same for me on my home laptop. There is no obvious problems but it definately runs a little slower than previously. Are there any checks we can do to see if there is any unwanted files etc?CheersMod Edit: Topic moved from HJT to more appropriate forum~ TMacK

Question: Attention JohnWill

I have a question regarding a post by JohnWill This was the post ...

U3 FLASH drives have that capability. You can run email, web browsing, and many other applications, and never leave a trace on the host machines.

My question is ... how can i get some more information on the U3 FLASH drive, and can You run the e-mail as in "Send and recieve" or is it just to operate application like getting contact information.

I'm needing an e-mail that won't leave a trace on the host computer/server. Any help will be great!

Ok, so, my roomate is set that you do not need any time of anti-virus, and you do not need a firewall either.

I have tried to explain to him that because of people that think like this, that this causes a lot or problems.

I have lost more then 100 gigs of files to a virus, and he is on my lan. I have told him, install antivirus, and he says "no, do you get a virus?" I told him no, and before I could finish my sentence, he says "there you go, I don't need it". I tried to explain to him that norton catches everything in the process, and that I have been using it for years, along with a good firewall.

He belives that because of this one guy at a lan party said that you do not need it, that no one needs it.

I am just trying to explain to him that yes, everyone needs it. I have been to lan party's where norton has saved my ass, and, I have walked up to people and said, "hey man, this directory on your box has this file with this virus" and they turn and say, how do you know? And I explain to them I run an anti-virus program.

I have also been to lans where we have had no network cuz of some johnny typhoid guy, and I have heard of HUGE 200+ lans where people would not run anti-virus and they all hosed eachother.

This kid won't listen to me. I sure wish there was an internet police or something so people who carelessly use the internet can be chaged with spreading a virus. He often times uses p2p apps also...so...yeah...

Answer:Attention! You do not need antivirus!

Sounds to me he simply needs to learn the hard way if he won't even listen to sound advice from friends *shrugs*

Then again, I don't run Antivirus software either. Not because im closed minded, but because I want every single scrap of clock cycle dedicted to my gaming machine, im that picky.

But for all my clients at work, yes, Antivirus is simply a must.

I sometimes get the Attention No Signal on my Advent P22W monitor. I recently installed Windows 7 on an HP Pavillion Desktop. I have had a friend who knows more about computers than I do have a look at it - he downloaded updated drivers and kept it running for 5 days without any problem. I brought it home and it is now a bit 'hit and miss' if it actually works.

Yesterday I reinstalled Windows 7 and kept the PC on all day - used the internet, played scrabble...nothing too exciting on it. This morning when I switched it on back came the 'Attention No Signal' message.

The Advent monitor is working perfectly well with another desktop. I have changed the VGA (?) cable; I have changed the power cable; I have tried it on a TV/monitor with HDMI and still I have this 'hit and miss' situation.

I've looked at other posts but to be honest as one of the computer illiterate mentioned on another post - none of it makes much sense to me. If anyone is patient enough to help explain what I can do simply I would be very grateful

Okay so, my PC had been through some unhealthy activities and had to be factory restored.

Now I've got much more space but I'm missing alot of stuff.

If someone could read my HJT log and help me out then that would be great.

You see my problem is this reoccuring amount of desktop (20) icons and also a new red circle/white X icon in the system tray near the time display... I don't know how to permanantly remove them.

Along with that, the desktop background (wallpaper) has disappeared and is now a blue screen with some kind of warning on it. It says:

Security Warning.

A fatal error in IE has occurred at 0028:C0011E36 in VXD VVM<01> + 00010E36. Error was caused by Trojan-spy.html.smitfraud.c

Question: Attention Stealing

My laptop won't focus on one thing at a time. I have internet up and I have to re-click it because it flicks off, asthough there is a pop up; yet nothing is there and no other programmes are running.

It does this with fullscreen too, I cant watch movies, play games or anything. It comes off fullscreen after about ten to twenty seconds. My computer technician guy said something about the graphics card.. but he didnt say how to fix it! My laptop has the graphics card 'separate' or something if that helps at all.

any help is much appreciated!

Answer:Attention Stealing

Hmm that sounds almost like the act of a dodgy piece of software to be causing that. Do you have any anti-virus programs or anti-malware programs?

Just recently my computer P4 Athlon XP 512 ram Nvidia Geeforce 5200 graphics Windows XP Home SP2 has been giong to "attention on signal error" on boot. It boots fine to safe mode and most of the time it will boot normally especially with warm boots. When it does stall and I get the error message it is after the windows screen but before the log on. I have installed no new hardware in the last few months. I have also re seated the graphics card and ram and have checked all the power source connections to the motherboard even tried a different monitor. Any ideas?

Are you aware of the recall on Memory Modules for Toshiba Laptops?

What is the Model of your Laptop?

Answer:Attention FuzzyWuzzy

Bunch of Sattelite models are affected by the recall ( in theory the RAM will give out and start having a bunch of random problems) Toshiba will pay for the replacement RAM . Look on their website for the recall notice.

Hi Kevin!

Ready for Round 3??

Attached are logs for the dreaded Desktop. It's a Dell, Dimensions 4500, Windows XP Home Edition, SP3. I don't think any Antivirus is currently running. Once upon a time AVG (free copy) was run regularly, but never on Auto update becasue it ate up too much of the memory.

So, how bad is it doc?

Hi Kevin - long time no 'see'

Below are the three logs of the scans run on my Dell Latitude D830, OS XP.

For anyone browsing this thread, it is a follow-up of my original post:

globalroot\systemroot\assembly\temp\u......

In which Kevin triumphed over the nasty ZeroAccess virus that had infected my son's PC (hereafter PC1). As I became more educated about ZeroAccess, I became concerned about all the other household PCs; hence this post for PC 2

So, what shall I do next?Just throw away my disk and never use it again?

Here we go again - I'm getting the message that my Microsoft account needs attention to get get new builds, with a Fix me button. The Fix me button goes on to tell me how to STOP getting new builds. No way out of this foolish loop.

Or is there? Has anyone overcome this absurd bit of crap programming short of a clean reinstall? (Which is what I had to do last time it cropped up.) If you all can help me get it sorted, I'd be most grateful... I really do not want to do another clean install. In fact, it might be the end of my participation in the Insiders Program.

Introduction
Sorry for the long post. Please read on
I have a few Cisco 2500 series routers here (CCNA labs, etc). It has always puzzled me why the latency was a lot more than current (and very cheap) home routers.

E.g.

Ping my home router:

Pinging 192.168.1.10 with 32 bytes of data:

Reply from 192.168.1.10: bytes=32 time<1ms TTL=128
Reply from 192.168.1.10: bytes=32 time<1ms TTL=128
Reply from 192.168.1.10: bytes=32 time<1ms TTL=128
Reply from 192.168.1.10: bytes=32 time<1ms TTL=128

(Linux shell shows the <1ms at around 0.1ms)

Ping my 2513:

Pinging 192.168.3.10 with 32 bytes of data:

Reply from 192.168.3.10: bytes=32 time=4ms TTL=255
Reply from 192.168.3.10: bytes=32 time=3ms TTL=255
Reply from 192.168.3.10: bytes=32 time=3ms TTL=255
Reply from 192.168.3.10: bytes=32 time=4ms TTL=255

As you can see, the 2513 is substantially higher.

"It's only 4ms!" I hear you cry. That 4ms increases the reponse time on everything, from refreshing multiple servers within ASE (a ping tool) to actually playing online games, etc.
Considering these bits of kit were around $3000 when they first came out, I find it hard to explain why a $30 piece of home equipment outperforms it.

Anyway, I think I found the 'problem'. I think, by default, these routers are using 'store and forward packet switching'. I won't bore you with the technical side (I'm sure most of you know anyway) but basically, it p... Read more

Answer:Attention IOS experts!

Please keep an eye on youR anti virus.
i have been using the same one for years (Avast) with no troubles.
Today I saw that it was off and I couldnt turn it on.

I am a pretty bright guy.
IT WOULD NOT LET ME WORK WITH IT.
I had to reinstall.

I cant say if it was a new type of virus just yet and I WILL look into it.

For now just keep an eye towards your protection.
At boot MAKE SURE that your AV is operational before doing anything else.

I am going to get in touch with the security people and discuss this.

I will update this thread.

Answer:[SOLVED] Attention everyone!!!

I assume you re booted first before deleting and reloading.

Won't hurt to run a couple of standard scans.

Out of curiosity I ran CCleaner on the registry in G's HP Laptop. Little machine has never had an issue of any kind and runs well. Gets very limited use, mostly checking her bank account now and then.

There are 908 lines of this :

Installer Reference Issue +

C:\Users\ADMINI~1\AppData\Local\Temp\x64 +

HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Installer\Folders

Sorry I had to break it into 3 lines.

Opinions? Thanks.

My computer is telling me, in the settings app, that my iCloud account needs attention. Every time I hit fix, I am asked to type in my password and then it just goes back to the screen that says to either fix or manage my account. If I manage it, the only thing I can do is delete it. Anyone using any of their services and haven't found out why things are not working need to go their Facebook page here:

https://www.facebook.com/ChangeIP/

I was on their Twitter page earlier and didn't see any updates then but found their Facebook page with updates. Long and the short is their entire system is down due to a MySQL "corruption/issue". They've been trying to restore from backups for the past 16 to 20 hours. Affected services are DNS domains registered to them, mail service, and dynamic DNS. Even their website is down. There are a lot of angry techies posting up comments on their Facebook page. Many of them supporting businesses which have been down since this outage has occurred and many of them currently have no choice but to ride out the outage.

I started to dig around when I couldn't VPN into my home network from cell phone when I was out and about last night. Got home and found my SonicWall firewall was not able to resolve the changeip.com domain and thus couldn't connect up to update my DDNS with my public IP. Thank goodness I have Dyn.com also and was running changeip as a secondary DDNS.

This is looking really bad and I agree with some of the techies saying an outage like this is 1) unacceptable with the current tech available and 2) smells like something bigger than a DB corruption/crash/corruption...more like malware/ransomware.

Something like this can very well sink this company as I don't recall when Dyn g... Read more

If anyone has received an E-mail message with an attachment which alleges to be from "Microsoft Technical Support" and is titled "New Net Critical Pack", I would highly suggest that you do N-O-T open it.

Microsoft does N-O-T send out an update or security notice with an attachment.

Some of you may have learned about this the hard way awhile back when a virus was being spread around by opening an attachment to a message which alleged to come from "[email protected]".

Win10 is probably close to on/over 100 million devices now. It's growing at an exponential rate... Yet it still seems as if devs are giving it a passing glance and are by no means jumping to announce their support of the "universal app" platform. Facebook is a good example....where are they on Win10 app support???
I don't understand how/why these devs interest is so tepid? What the hell else do they need??? Win10 is exploding and they're still to busy wondering it it's worth their time. Why???

Answer:What will it take to get apps/developer attention?

Because they feel they can get away not bothering. A desktop user has a web browser. They have a website. Are people shouting out for an app? Nope, so why bother.
If users start making a noise perhaps they'll listen.

Two weeks ago, it was announced that Symantec?s Norton AntiVirus source code exposed by hackers.
Originally, it was reported that it was code for older Enterprise products, not the versions used for consumers. In addition, it was claimed that it was a third party and not Symantec's network that was breached.
Since then, it was discovered that Symantec's network was compromised. Following that discovery, it was learned that the secret source code for pcAnywhere, a widely used brand of remote control software was also leaked.
Finally, today, Symantec tells customers to disable pcAnywhere.

Symantec Corp took the rare step of advising customers to stop using one of its products, saying its pcAnywhere software for accessing remote PCs is at increased risk of getting hacked after blueprints of that software were stolen.

Answer:Attention: Symantec PC-Anywhere Users

So what exactly does "compromised" actually mean? I used to use PCanywhere some time ago..it was a little bit slow..And btw in the meantime I think Symatec announced that it is once again safe to use it.
Anyway, speaking of PCanywhere, there is this buzz going on recently about this Audials Anywhere thing that's apparently related to file sharing but I wasn't able to find out too much about it. It reminded me about PCanywhere though, because of the name I guess. Anyone know anything about it? I'd be curious to know more.

Hey everyone,

This will be my first adventure into AMD terrority. I am looking for a mobo and was wondering what you all recommend!

It will never be an overclocker, (for a nice old lady) but none the least I would like to score a good budget board.
There are really no special requirements here...
6PCI slots would be preferred
No onboard video is neccasary
and of course it must support the top speed AMD processor.

Also... I'm thinking a grabbing a Athlon 2400+ (its either that or 2.4 533mhz P4) but was curious if anyone has any feeling towards the 2400+

Thanks in advance!

I do not know if this caused the connecting problem or not. I just know that it will not connect. I don't know if the error is fixed either because it will not connect so I can send mail to check. Hello, Forum!

I'm posting this today because i found a little bug in Nvidia's Website

Let me upload a Pic for you guys to understand a little bit better what i'm talking about, this bug only affects users who try to download Nvidia's GeForce 8 Series drivers, not even GeForce 8M Series (Mobile), only GeForce 8 Series, the bug is that you can't select Win7 as an OS for your Download, i know this may be a stupid bug but there are a lot of users out there who doesn't know that and they could be confused!

Solution: Download another GeForce Series Driver, I.E.: Nvidia 9 Series Drivers

DO NOT download GeForce 500 Series Drivers because they're only compatible with GTX 580/570 and DO NOT download GeForce 400 Series (GTX 460SE) because it's the same driver that GTX 580/570 uses, download any other one.

Here's a Direct Link to 260.99 WHQL Drivers:

64-bit: NVIDIA DRIVERS 260.99 WHQL
32-bit: NVIDIA DRIVERS 260.99 WHQL

Check under Supported Products to see if your card is supported, if not, then you must look for another driver in the "Nvidia Driver" section.

Cheers, Forum!
Punkster.

Answer:Nvidia Website Bug! Attention.

Hmm?

How many times as this happened. If it's just the once then it was probably just a bug in loading the webpage.

Edit: Helps if I upload the right screenshot.

Pretty much all I use a computer for is gaming and desktop publishing in creative suite. I tend to have tens of thousands of files that I have to search and store as well. So when I want to buy a new game like Battlefield 4 or a new software package like CS 7 I will buy it through the metro store? Will managing a huge number of files be easier with this interface?

Answer:Haven't been paying much attention to W8...

No.

Metro is not for managing files - it is simply for consumption.

The main interface (desktop) is for that .

Unfortunately, productivity has been relegated to second place.

How about starting by telling us what systems you have, what versions of Windows they each run, and what kind of Internet connection you have. That will give enough information to at least start talking about the problem.

If you're experiencing Bluetooth issues with Windows 10 "Creators Update" (Version 1607 Build 15063), Microsoft is aware of it.
It appears to be affecting mostly Broadcom and Realtek devices, and it's unknown when there will be a fix for it.

This is a notice to Ad-Aware users using the MVPS HOSTS file MVPS HOSTS [13/June/04] -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- click here click here click here Attention Ad-Aware users Ad-Aware has decided to include a new detection when scanning the HOSTS file. This now creates a "Bad hosts file entry" in the log file generated at the end of a scan. The best thing to do is to place a check in each entry, right-click and select: "Add selection to ignorelist". Otherwise if you let AWW "fix" these items it will trash the HOSTS file! Even if you have it "locked" by [example] SpywareBlaster or Winpatrol. It does not return the attributes and renames the HOSTS file incorrectly to hosts.Regardsnickmajor geeks moderator

recently the pc has started behaving like an easily distracted child. One minute you're typing an email, then the characters stop appearing on the screen; it's as if it's gone off to do something else. Other symptoms include toolbars which flash or dim, MS Office and Adobe applications encounter a problem and have to close, using drop down menus is frustrating because they often disappear again before you've made a selection.Possibly significant, an icon which looks like the one for MSN instant messaging, keeps appearing fleetingly in the notification area. I have uninstalled IM but still the icon persists. Looking at processes in Task Manager the list keeps twitching as something appears and equally quickly disappears, but it is too quick for me to read.Scans with AVG and A squared reveal nothing untoward, SFC /scannow completed uneventfully.I'm running out of bright ideas now, and the prospect of reinstalling from scratch seems preferable to going on like this.I have 2 recent, valid True Image backups, so unless anyone has any better ideas I'm going to bite the bullet and wipe it.

Answer:pc has attention deficit disorder

I think that going with one of your TI backups is probably the best option; if they are clean then you will be ok.

After the forum editor blocked my recent post re: the disaster which many, many, many, people are having with W10, I think it is pertinent to note the reply from the forum editor wherin he states....." There's no need to rant over and over again about something that probably has a cure....." The SALIENT point here being that he says "something that -PROBABLY- has a cure....." this is what Dragonheart was alluding to!!! insofar as literally hundreds of NOVICE users have a VALID and Legitimate problem but CLEARLY from the editors post - it is OBVIOUS that no-one knows the solution to this problem!!! Dragonheart also clearly and succinctly states that the vast majority of the people annswering posts here are VERY skilled computer users and have NO IDEA of the sheer CHAOS wrought on "novices" who use computers and whose lives are dominated by them, then when an insoluble problem arises that TOTALLY BLOCKS their computer then NATURALLY they are FURIOUS and very upset by this. my W10 problem has not been solved and going back to the factory settings W8.1 was the ONLY solution in my case - being a tri-national travelling extensively I need 3 computers in 3 countries that WORK!!! Windows 10 - NEVER!!!

Answer:for attention of the forum editor

Raving that windows 10 is rubbish in every thread in the windows help forum will not solve your problem or help anyone else either!
Your particular problem seems to relate to Acer machines and therefore a solution will have to come from Acer not Microsoft and will take a few days /weeks depending on how fast Acer wish to deal with it.

QUOTE>>>
The hosts file is not corrupted. The standard hostsfile filename is "hosts" in lower-case, which is what it is named if Ad-aware is instructed to edit it. Also, the file is marked as read-only in an attempt to deter editing.

I constantly get this message, even though I scan every day with avast and antimalware, and use online virus scanners, but has done no good. Any way I can get rid of this message? Probably started a week ago so do not want to try a system restore as would have too many programs to uninstall. Thanks. Here's the dealio.

Trying to install slackware 10.2.

Just fiddling, really. About 200 mhz with an 8 gig hard drive.

We partitioned nad ran through the installation. We reboooted
and we get "Error loading OS"

I think we partitioned wrong, what kind of partions do we need, as well as size information.

k thx

Answer:Attention Slackware Menz

I'd say create a 32MB partition at /boot 1st, then a 7GB / partition, then give the rest to /swap.

Make / and /boot type 83 partitions, and make /swap a type 82 partition. 83 is just the regular linux native parition type, and 82 is the swap partition.

Later on you can choose what fs type you want to use for / and /boot, probably ext3 is fine.
