Preferred Solution: Windows 8.1 keeps crashing

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi, I have windows Vista Home premium 32 bit OS installed on my computer. For the past week or so, my computer has been acting really weird and running extremely slow. Firefox won't load some pages. Most sites that equire secure sign-ins take ages. Like ebay, and online bankings, HSBC etc. and then for some reason my browser goes offline out of the blue, tells me that I can't browse because the browser is working offline (happens a lot more on IE than Fiefox though, but it does happen on both).

Also sometimes firefox shuts down on its own, without any warning or an error message, when I download something, clicking on the recently downloaded programme doesn't open it, when I right click and then open the folder containing the downloaded item, even the folder doesn't open and when I try to manually open the "download" folder or sometimes even when I try to open control panel, I get a message windows explorer has stopped working and is restarting, sometimes not even the message and windows explorer just crashes on it's own without any error.

I've tried using google chome, but sometimes it just won't load pages. I click on the plus tab, and type the adress some it would load, but some it won't no matter what. the page stays blank which is weid because I've used Chrome before and when you open a new tab the page is never blank, instead it shows your previously opened pages or the history (unless you specifically tell chrom... Im running windows 7 ultimate 64 ... I dont know totally system specs. It's a custom rig that I purchased about 6 months ago. I dont think the specs matter anyway because I don't believe this is a hadware problem, but a windows problem.

Ok,

So about a month ago I was unlucky enough to pick up a virus infection somewhere ... you know, those fake anti virus ones that totally destroy your system and leave you helpless. It started this whole chain of events that lasted two weeks and ended up with me running in safe mode for more than a week trying to fix the problem. I tried restoring my computer via system restore a few times and got an error every time - (which in turn 'damaged' my restore points so I no longer can use this option)

So, I figured I would reinstall windows and fix it. Sadly, whatever was on my comp as turned my CD drives (DVD and bruner) into dead weight - they won't read a thing. So I got Dlite and mounted the CD to a virtual drive and tried to install it that way, but for whatever reason it gives me an error and reboot and wont finish the install. It does however take me too the new log in screen, which gives me an error when I try to create a new log in for the new windows. I was able to get back into the old windows install and managed to delete the new one. Anyway .. I eventually was able to get spyware docter and a few other programs to run in safe mode and I cleaned the comp of all virus's BUT when I tried to run windows normally it would barely run at ... You really need to get a hardware cd/dvd drive.
The virtual drive is no good for what you are trying to use it for.

I think I am hit with the dreaded vundo trojan. No antivirus or spyware will remove it and its stopped my IE loading any pages now it just crashes.

I have run combofix.exe as suggested by some other posts but this doesn't seem to have made any difference.

Here is the fresh HJT log.

My Windows 7 computer has recently been crashing - sometimes I get a blue screen, sometimes it just restarts. It can work for 10 hours or more without a hitch sometimes, though sometimes it crashes sooner than that. It wasn't a huge problem, but I decided to re-install my OS anyways (I deleted all the partitions, and did a fresh install) - and the problem still persists. Previously, it was perfectly stable for the previous 6+ months (or longer) that I've had Windows 7 installed. The hardware is a couple years old.

So I'm thinking it's a hardware problem, but I'm not sure what's the problem. Hard drive? Power supply? Maybe RAM?

Thanks for any help.

IE 8 also crashes and I've even had a couple issues with other programs, like Picasa. I have Norton Securite suite, Spybot S&D, Malware Bytes' Anti-Malware and Reg Cleaner and use all regularly. Please help me.

I've updated the BIOS and all the mobo drivers. I've replaced the RAM. I've ran AdAware, Spybot and HiJackThis.

I'm including the last 4 BSOD messages to see what all of you think I should do.

I'm running an AMD Athlon XP 2300+ on an Asus A7V8X-X motherboard. Nvidia GEForce4 MX440 video card and 1GB RAM (1-512MB, 2-256MB). Windows XP Pro with SP2.

Dumps 60704 and -05 both say Memory Corruption. Did you run a Memtest86+ like was suggested in your last thread? Did you switch your sticks arond in your slots? Did you test each stick individually?

Did you overclock and did you set the volatage correctly?

Dump 707-01 points to a hardware failure.

Dump 707 shows a Stop Errot of 0x74. Read carefully trhis link and the Cause.

Hi there. I am writing a post here because I am really mad. Few months ago I have bought my lenovo y50-70 4gb ram gtx960M and the problem occurs until today. The problem is, when I start to play "heavy" games ( like gta 5 or cs; go, lmao) this wonderlaptop crashes. Every time I launch a game, this lapop crashes. I can play 30 mins or 2 seconds but It ALWAYS CRASHES. Firstly, It said that nvidia driver stop responding bla bla bla. So I was searching solution in Internet. They told me to reinstall graphic drivers etc. Ok I did it. Guess what? Crash? Of course it crashes. I was very upset so I decided to update my windows. From W7 64b to W10 64b. Guess what? Ye ye, it still crashes. I turned on V-sync and It helps. Rly. Now i do not receive this annoying statement with "nvidia display stop responding bla bla bla" Now it only crashes without any errors. Sometimes with blue screen but rly rare (thx). Sound loops, image stops, and system crashes. I tried every driver, beta driver, hotfix driver, latest driver, non latest driver. JUST EVERY DRIVER. It doesnt help. I hope u will.Regards! @edit. All temps are fine. Idle 45-50 C  stress 55-65.

Answer:Lenovo y50-70, crashing, crashing, crashing, crash...

I had the same issue. It would crash with every game where nvidia card was used instead of intel. I tried various nvidia drivers but it didn't help. However I tried a really old driver 347.66 (not sure about the numbers after the ' . ') and it worked like a charm! No more crashes and the laptop is stable even after hours of gaming. After that I have never updated the nvidia drivers

This started happening yesterday for no reason. I start up my PC, and everything loads fine. I then launch my browser and after a few minutes of random browsing, the browser hangs, and then it grays out and I get the "program is not responding" thing, but then I try to ctrl alt delete to launch the task manager to end it, but it doesn't pop up. It takes literally like 10 minutes until the browser re-activates and then I am able to use ctrl alt delete and end it. Then, I go to restart the browser and it doesn't pop up. I constantly double click it and then it decides to work a few minutes later, resulting in multiple browsers to launch at the same time.

Sometimes when I'm not so lucky, the browser freezes and after a while THE ENTIRE COMPUTER freezes and I have no choice but to hold the button to restart it.
I restarted it in safe mode and it works completely fine after that.

Scratch that. It ran fine in safe mode but messed up in safe mode w/ networking

For about the past 3 days now, I'm seeing System Settings Broker "stopped working" in the reliability history. Additionally, I'm seeing a lot of issues with the Windows Shell Experience Host in the event viewer. What happens is that the action center is not accessible (clicking on it does nothing), and hitting the Win key to bring up the start menu does nothing.
The following is probably the same situation I have. Just wondering if anyone here has any ideas. The support over at answers.microsoft.com is pathetic.http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/w...401163a?page=1
Maybe I should disable Cortana.

Hello Forum,

I have the following issues -

1. First received the message on the computer from MS informing that we had an error - went to view details it said that we had a Error 1033. I went and pushed the button to get MS to fix this issue - but continually receive the message that I have the same problem.

2. The time that I rebooted - I noticed in place of the CPU gadgets that i have on my desktop that all MS gadgets had crashed. Again a fix did not work.

3. Internet Explorer is not working and the tabs keep crashing.

I did go onto the MS webpage and ran SFC and posting the pics from the results. I am unsure as to what other information or where to go to try and fix this issue.

I have tried everything prior to posting. I am not sure if any snips from Event Viewer may assist.

Thank you

Okay, so, my story is this...
I have been experiencing random computer crashes on my Laptop. I will list the specifications of this laptop in a moment. The crashes come with NO BSOD or any form of minidump or recording of what caused them...
It will sometimes crash at an insanely random time when almost nothing is running, but most of the time it will crash after I have just clicked play on a video, on the internet. (usually YahooNews or LEOAffairs.com)

Now, before you go crazy and start saying, "well update your Flash Player!!" ..I will have you know that I fully uninstalled the entirety of Adobe Flash, using the standalone Uninstaller, and deleted all remaining files, by following this guide made by Adobe staff... https://forums.adobe.com/thread/928315

I have also run a Driver Verifier, by following this guide here: How to determine which driver causes Windows to crash ? :: SG FAQ
Using a BSOD viewer there nothing was revealed that I could easily tell what the issue was, or what needed to be changed to stop my issue.

Being that this issue is not easily re-creatable I will keep this thread updated as often as I can, after some people have put down some suggestions on how to fix this.

I will also attach the Crash Dump Text File of the BSOD (DRIVER_VERIFIER_IOMANAGER_VIOLATION) that occurred after I had run the Driver Verifier. I will also include the .dmp file (inside the ZIP), incase you would like to look at that...

Good day! I have a problem with my new Lenovo C200 All-in-One. FreeDOS has been installed when I turn it on at first time so I decided to install Windows 7 Pro x64. But there are many unexpected BSOD's while working in Win 7. OK, I installed Windows XP Pro instead Windows 7. It's working OK but - I can't play most of youtube movies based on Adobe Flash Player - there are 3-5 mins and "Adobe Flash Player has been crashed" :-( And there is no any dependence of browser I'm using. Same problem with: MS IE/Mozilla Firefox/Google Chrome. And finally, I can't use videocalls in my Skype! Webcam is OK but when I'm trying to call using videocamera - Skype is crashing. So my question: is it hardware or software problem? What do you think about it? Thank you.

Answer:C200 All-in-One: Flash player crashing, Skype (video) crashing

hi shupike,

The issue that you described seems like a software problem.

Can you try check the following:

1. Make sure you're running the latest version of Adobe Flash (http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer)
2. Disable adobe flash's hardware acceleration (right click on the video > choose Settings > uncheck Enable hardware accelleration.
 Spoiler (Highlight to read)
Regarding the webcam, try to install an old version of skype and install the latest camera driver below:

Lenovo USB2.0 UVC CameraID1CAM08WW1.exe20.2 MB

Hope this helps.

So, basically it goes like this:
-Click play on video.
-Laptop crashes with no BSOD or Error/Bug Report.
-Laptop reboots.
^^ This goes on for longer than just today..
-I run the uninstaller to clean out Flash
-I delete extra files left over after the uninstall.
-I reinstall Flash using the latest version, hoping it will stop. (it didnt)
-Laptop crashes + reboots again.
-I run the Driver Verifier program, which is built into windows.
-BSOD pops up on restart.
-I shut down and run computer in safe mode.
-Delete all settings associated with Driver Verifier, and then I post the Help thread here.

Presently, I’m having an issue with Chrome not loading specific content on Aweber.com, and when that same content is sometimes loaded from Firefox, it crashes both itself and Chrome, and sometimes, other programs.

This error also will occur sometimes if I launch Steam (SteamPowered.com) while running Chrome. Chrome will crash, as well as the Steam client. (I can only assume this is because they’re sharing something, but I don’t know what.) I know that Steam uses a type of browser internal to it so you can browse the store, interact with other users, etc.

Here’s what occurs most often, and how I can generally duplicate it.

If I go into Chrome and try to compose a new email in Aweber, it just says “Loading” and does nothing. I think this uses Flash, judging from the source code on the page. Doing this same activity in Firefox will, more often than not, crash Firefox, Chrome, and sometimes “unrelated” applications such as Spotify and Notepad++, which occurred the other day. They literally start crashing one after another, in some sort of chain reaction. Apps running in the tray (Evernote, Google Drive, etc.) are unaffected.

Sometimes, in Firefox, the ability to compose a new email in Aweber comes up and works flawlessly. I notice I have the most success with this after rebooting, and going right into Firefox without letting the computer run for some time.

Sometimes when going into Aweber in Ch... Read more

You’re experiencing Chrome crashes due to conflicts between browser installed modules. Run the browser without loading any add-ons, disable the sandbox feature, reset your DNS settings and so on. I’m sure this will fix up Chrome crashes.

Clear Cache Contents and Temp Files:
1. Click Wrench, select Tools | Clear browsing data.
2. A new page would open.
3. Choose “The beginning of time” from the drop down control.
4. Make sure that all checkboxes are checked-up.
5. Click “Clear browsing data” button.

Remove Corrupt User Profile Data Files:
1. Exit Google Chrome.
2. Double click My Computer desktop icon.
3. Open below directory:

Hi, I've been running on a T520 4239-CTO for a little over a year now without issue.  I've been getting lots of random bsod and services crashing in the last few days; even Windows 7 cannot validate itself anymore. I ran all the hardware checks in the provided Lenovo utilities and it all seems to pass.  I didn't trust this so I manually checked the smart values on the hard disk and noticed around 2400+ reallocated sectors so I decided to replace the hard disk. It should be noted that there are no viruses/malware on this machine.  After receiving the new hard disk I did a factory restore using the dvd backups I made when I received the machine.  Upon booting the new factory install on the new disk I'm still getting the same random bsod and issues with Windows 7 not being able to validate. I notice that everytime I boot now on the newly restored os that the "Microsoft Software Protection Platform" service has issues and cannot start.  I started doing some updates using the Thinkvantage tools and they're crashing too. This machine is currently on pass 4 of memtest without any errors so far. I've replaced the hard drive and from the looks of things so far the ram seems fine.  Where do I go from here?

1)open cmd as admin
2)Go to C:\Users<Insert Username>\AppData\Local\Packages\ and search name of your broken app (I will search Photos app)
3)Look at folder's name (Microsoft.Windows.Photos)
4)Now you know your app's id. Let's go back to cmd
5)Use this code
PowerShell -ExecutionPolicy Unrestricted -Command "& {$manifest = (Get-AppxPackage Microsoft.WRITE APP'S ID HERE).InstallLocation + '\AppxManifest.xml' ; Add-AppxPackage -DisableDevelopmentMode -Register $manifest}"
It will be like this
PowerShell -ExecutionPolicy Unrestricted -Command "& {$manifest = (Get-AppxPackage Microsoft.Windows.Photos).InstallLocation + '\AppxManifest.xml' ; Add-AppxPackage -DisableDevelopmentMode -Register $manifest}"
6)Press Enter and wait till the command finishes its work.
7)You don't have to reboot. Open your broken app and it will work now

Hello, as of rebooting my machine today when I boot normally into windows vista I automatically get an error that says that Windows Explorer has stopped working and I get a black screen where I can see my cursor. I can ctrl alt delete into task manager and browse to run files but can not connect to the internet, etc. The only thing I can think of is that I installed limewire and apparently along with it some additional program called hotbox or something that was some sort of movie/music program.DDS:DDS (Ver_10-03-17.01) - NTFSx86 NETWORK Run by Matthew at 22:43:26.76 on Thu 08/26/2010Internet Explorer: 8.0.6001.18943 BrowserJavaVersion: 1.6.0_20Microsoft? A day or so ago, my IE browser got redirected to a website, which made my Norton program start detecting viruses, trojans, and intrusion attempts left and right for a few minutes. According to Norton, all of these were blocked, quarrantined, etc... The next day, Most of the icons from my system tray were gone, and after a minute or so online, multiple windows would start popping up in my taskbar, but I can't find out what they are. Whenever I'd hover over the area (taskbar or systray) with the mouse, Windows Explorer would give me "Windows Explorer has stopped working" folowed by "Windows explorer is restarting".

I ran virus scans with Norton, Spybot, Malwarebytes, Kapersky, the list goes on. Some of the programs would find trojans and fix/remove them, but I'm still having the issues with Windows Explorer, the missing system tray icons, and the mystery windows in my taskbar. My last set of scans, online and on my software came back clean... But the problem goes on. I do have my system recovery dvd, But I haven't backed up any files... (Terrible, I know)

Now the problem is that a week or so ago, something happened on my pc, not entirely sure what but something happened. At the time i noticed something had happened because the colour of the task bar changed from its normal, see through-ish dark colour, to the grey basic colour. After that happened, none of my game exe's would run, they would open for a bit on a white bordered screen for some, then an error saying '***.exe has crashed'. This happens for game exes, steam.exe and some others .exes aswell. Now ive tried downloading a registry fix for .exes and ive run a few of those and thats not helped, ive also ran CMD as administrator and run sfc /scannow a few times and thats come up negative for any errors. Ive ran my antivirus (avg) and downloaded hitman and malwarebites and removed a trojan but that didnt do anything. Another problem that has come from this is that the shockwave/flashplayer in chrome has crashed, so everytime i load youtube etc i cant play any videos or do much online, ive typed 'about:plugins' into the address bar and disabled the both flashes first one, restarted then the other, restarted and tried again but that made no difference so im thinking that its linked to the exe problem, however, flash still works on internet explorer.

Hi there,

I have had a few problems with my custom built computer. I believed at first that I had malware and virus issues, however a nice technician on the virus forums said there was no problem.

I am receiving the dreaded Blue Screen of Death fairly frequently, I am not playing any games, just browsing the internet when it happens.

Secondly, my browsers (both Mozilla 3.6.8 and IE 8) are both crashing very frequently - Mozilla comes up with a report message saying it has crashed and asks me whether to send or not to send the report, whereas IE reloads the tabs frequently, but to a point the page cannot be reloaded and has to be closed down.

As well as this, a lot of my executable files are crashing - I am getting error messages from things like java, flash, avg, my network card, windows messenger etc saying that they have crashed.

This problem is happening very frequently, I cannot seem to go half an hour without browsing with no problem.

If anyone could help it would be VERY MUCH appreciated!

Thanks.

Answer:BSOD, exe files constantly crashing, browsers crashing.

You need to post some hardware details about your custom built computer.
Something is unstable and it could well be the memory modules.

In addition, when you see a BSoD click details, it will generally state which executable caused the problem.

I would be tempted to look for a copy of memtest and run some memory diagnostics.

Hello there folks!

I have had this quite annoying problem for arround three weeks now. My PC crashes
Usually when playing games, but sometimes when I am just at the desktop
I have almost concluded that the problem is one of my graphicscards.

But today, after a fresh install I finally got a Minidump file and an error code in event viewer!
(After three weeks of atleast one crash a day it was about damn time)

Don't know if the crash is related to the problem I have had, but it could.

I have this from event viewer:
The computer has rebooted from a bugcheck. The bugcheck was: 0x0000007e (0xffffffffc0000005, 0xfffff8800169f47c, 0xfffff880009b09e8, 0xfffff880009b0220). A dump was saved in: C:\Windows\MEMORY.DMP. Report Id: 091112-11481-01.

And also this:
The driver \Driver\WudfRd failed to load for the device WpdBusEnumRoot\UMB\2&37c186b&0&STORAGE#VOLUME#_??_USBSTOR#DISK&VEN_KINGSTON&PROD_DATATRAVELER_G2&REV _1.00#001D0F0CAA76A931A59D0230&0#.

I also uploaded the .dmp file

To gather info, use Speccy (my favorite) or SIW or System Info

In the System Manufacturer Block, enter:
? Manufacturer and Model OR Custom build.
? ADD the word laptop, desktop, netbook or tablet.
For example:
Toshiba Satellite L305D notebook.

Provide full windows version info, for example:
MS Windows 7 Ultimate SP1 64-bit

A while ago, I posted this thread asking for help with a situation that was or wasn't caused by malware. Some of these problems were that I was getting BSoDs that appeared to be caused by a different problem each time, web browsers crashing spontaneously, and Svchost.exe taking up 100% CPU in random spikes. Since I got no replies at any site I asked, and the symptoms were getting unbearable, I reformatted my computer only two days ago.

But today I've been getting some of the symptoms from before the reinstall. Earlier I had a BSoD and 2 random Firefox crashes within two hours. I was not doing anything too CPU or graphics-intensive (on Youtube and doing normal web surfing). Since I haven't even completely installed all the necessary programs and drivers [from CDs that came with my computer] yet, I am ruling out malware as a factor. I have installed graphics drivers for my GeForce 4 MX GPU, but they came with the computer, so it shouldn't have been a problem.

Things like this have never happened before, especially not right after a reinstall. Would anyone like to take a guess as to what's causing the problems? Is it possible that my hard drive is dying, since it's almost 5 years old?

EDIT: svchost high CPU usage problem recurring again... :sigh: At least this time the internet connection on Firefox doesn't stop.

Hi All,

My first post here. I'm trying to fix the computer of one of my employers, and can't seem to get to the root of the problem. Windows Explorer keeps causing errors, and I am unable to, for example, save files, access the Windows directory, and more.

As well as not being able to access the Windows Directory (Unless I share it over a network, in which case networked machines can see it), we can also not get at the My Documents Directory.

The more major issue, which is why I am hoping people may be able to help, is that on a regular basis, explorer.exe causes errors, and effectively stops what you were doing. Having looked in the event log, the faulting module is avapi32.dll.

Any Suggestions extremely greatfully recieved - I'm considering a reformat, which is really not what I want to do!

I've run AVG, Spybot S&D, Spyhunter, Windows Defender, and uninstalled some suspicious looking programs. THe one that will not go is called Public Messenger ver 2.03 - various web searches suggest this may be causing problems also.

Reading through some other bits - I've just tried to update the Microsoft Script Debugger, in the hope that might help.

Whenever I Try to download anything, as soon as the download box appears, Internet Explorer Crashes, as does explorer, and everything disappears! I can download normally using firefox however - but Windows Update does not work.

It also looks like the My Documents folder has become read only, and I can'... Read more

Answer:Crashing when I lock my pc: (windows key + L) Windows 10 Enterprise v10240 x64. How can I fix this?

I upgraded to win10 pro over the weekend and im sitting with the same problem. I thought updating my gpu drivers would solve the problem but it didn't. I deleted the old drivers and used ddu to remove all traces of the drivers and did a fresh install. I went so far as to update my ssd's firmware to see if it was maby the cause. This is sadly a deal breaker and if updates dont resolve this issue i will be forced to downgrade to win 7 again. Seriously wished that the upgrade to 10 would be a smooth one. Really disappointing since everything else seems to work .I get a blue screen with system_service_exception_wdf01000.sys when i try to lock my system using winkey+l. Still trying to solve the issue will keep you posted.

Just re-installed windows 7 64bit brand new. I've noticed two times recently that after I get all bunch of windows automatic scheduled updates I had problems with rebooting as normal. To be more specifically, the screen get stuck at 15% configuring service pack..
I never had this problem before and I use the sale old Windows service Pack1 CD that I bought 2 years before. Is this some kind of update bug in the updates?

Thanks in advance!

Answer:New windows installation 64bit Windows 7 crashing at 15% configuring.

If you can obtain a windows 7 sp1 integrated iso you can use your current key with the newer disc and avoid the sp1 update altogether.

This is the approach I have taken to since xp had its first service pack. The integrated fresh installs always seemed a little faster and less resistant to future change.

I've got Windows 8 64-bit, and it's been running fine for about 2 months now. Just today, it's started to crash the desktop every 6 seconds. The screen goes purple (which I'm pretty sure is just my chosen background colour), the outline of the taskbar remains,
but all the icons disappear, and then everything returns, only to crash again in another 6 seconds. I've watched the task manager, and under "background processes", an icon called "Windows Problem Reporting" appears for about a second,
and then goes away.
I've looked up some other people's questions about this, and most people seem to recommend checking for updates, or installing new graphics drivers, but this is not an option for me. Whenever the desktop crashes, it shuts down control panel as well. This
means I can't start my computer in safe mode, I can't check for updates, I can't uninstall/update drivers, I basically can't make any changes to my computer! Even as I'm writing this message, the cursor keeps disappearing from the test box whenever the desktop
crashes, and I have to click on the screen every 6 seconds. ARGH!

Answer:Windows 8 explorer.exe keeps crashing and I can't use Windows update as a result!

Hi,

Windows Explorer crashes are mostly caused by an incompatible Shell Extension.

please download this reg file from my SkyDrive:

http://cid-128fc518635be2dc.skydrive.live.com/self.aspx/.Public/MS%20Foren/Registry/WER%5E_Explorer_full.reg

and make a double click on the file to import it. If you can't do this, run regedit.exe and import the registry file there!

When the Windows Explorer crashes, Windows Error Reporting Service [1] creates a dmp file under C:\Localdumps. Please upload the dump file (compressed 7z or RAR to reduce the size) to your public Skydrive [2] folder and post the link here. I take a look at
the dump with the Debugger, maybe I can see which Shell extension is the cause.

After you generated the dumps, download and import this regfile:

http://cid-128fc518635be2dc.skydrive.live.com/self.aspx/.Public/MS%20Foren/Registry/WER%5E_Explorer_full_uninstall.reg

to stop the dump creation.

André

We have a Dell desktop with Windows 7 that is having all sorts of issues. We currently have AVG free version and it is finding things and putting them in quarantene, but it doesn't seem to be running correctly and is hard to get in to. Most things listed are Win32 and Win64 Adware Gen. Also INI Shorcut

I have run Malwarebytes, but nothing shows up at all. I have deleted both Adaware blocker and Google Adblock because that is what Chrome said to start with. Didn't help. I was getting the Aw-Snap message. Many times it just freezes up.

What should we try next? We did lose our graphics card a while back due to lightning, followed by losing our sound a few months later. This is all new, though and I don't think it is hardware related. I am not very computer savvy though.....

So i've thoroughly scanned my computer with lots of anti-malware apps and anti-rootkits and yet the only programs that have been able to find issues are Roguekiller and aswMBR. Roguekiller reported some IPR hooks and weird registry entries, but i've heard these could be false positives. I just want to be sure if these things aren't interfering with my SSD, causing stuttering and crippling my computer's performance. The one that concerns me the most is aswMBR, it's always crashing and is not able to finish the scan, and some driver is highlighted as RED, it seems to be related to storage. Safe Mode doesn't work either. I've attached a screenshot. I've tried everything. I also had some weird tracking cookies adding themselves to google chrome after a while. I kind of fixed it by blocking them through the settings. Thanks a lot in advance.

Question: Windows Crashing

I just got a Cable Modem for my PC. Since then my Windows begins to reboots itself and then not even load up. I thought it was a driver issue, but it worked for a week then it began to do it again. The Modem is a RCA DMC Cable Modem via USB. Any Suggestions or advice would be helpful.

Answer:Windows Crashing

Greetings Conan87 and Welcome to TSF,

Could you please tell us if you get any error messages when this rebooting occurs.

Also can you please give more details as to what actually happens at the time of rebooting.

Regards,
Dave T.

Hi, i know that i shouldn't have done it but after i manually shut down my pc by holding on the power button 10 hours ago, my computer keeps shutting off and restarting by itself. Please help.

Answer:Windows 7 keeps crashing

Before Windows starts repeatedly press F8 and it should give you a menu. Choose the one that says Do not automatically restart. It should then try to boot and stop at an error screen that you can note the details and post here for us to see what has gone wrong.

Hi my name is TJ and I am new to this forum. Today I decided to use my dads computer and I found an annoying problem on his computer. I spent almost the whole day trying to fix it. I have knowledge of computers here and there but not enough to fix this problem. The problem starts out with me going to my computers and then opening the CD drive. I put in my music CD and then explored the CD folder, but as soon as i open it, it gives me an error. It pops up the explorer.exe has an ecountered a problem, send do not send report, ect. I checked out the more detailed info and here it is:

AppName: explorer.exe AppVer: 6.0.2900.2180 ModName: unknown
ModVer: 0.0.0.0 Offset: 00000000

then went to check the source of the problem and it gave me this:

C:\DOCUME~1\******~1\LOCALS~1\Temp\d662_appcompat.txt

I know that appcompat.txt isnt the problem but it shows what the problem is, and ive tried everything to fix this. I also notice everytime i tried to open the Cd drive again it changes the accompat file name, like first it would be like d662_appcompat.txt then it would change to f13d2_appcompat.txt then by734_appcompat.txt ect. I opened that file and check whats going on but i had no idea what it meant so i here i am asking you guys for help. My dad's computer isnt that old, maybe few months, its a dell, LOL i know, but were cheap and we cant get good computers. I tried everything from virus scans, spyware removal, and ect. I just gave up and finally came here. I tried updatin... Read more

Question: Windows 7 crashing

A friend of mine bought a computer from NewEgg that had to be assembled (against my advise). It came from Newegg with all the parts pre picked, but not assembled.

It keeps getting the BSOD, so I have it over at my house and I'm trying to figure out why.

He knows nothing about computers (which is why I didn't want him to buy one needing assembly). I assembled it at his house, but then it started having problems. I emailed him possible solutions, but he couldn't figure out how to fix it because he couldn't understand my instructions. He said it would get the BSOD every 30-60 minutes on average. I got the computer at my house, and assumed the problem was a motherboard driver, so the first thing I did was update that. It has since got the BSOD twice in 24 hours, so its not as bad, but still not functioning 100%.

Here is what the BSOD says:

All drivers are up to date

The processor is a Phenom 9600B

The motherboard is a M2N68- AMPLUS Motherboard.

Onboard video and sound.

Answer:Windows 7 crashing

seems like something with the CPU.
overclocked? or overheating?
maybe try underclocking it to see if it stops BSOD

I purchased a new Dell Vostro 1720 which came with Windows 7 in December of last year. Since early this year, it has been crashing repeatedly. Hi and welcome CM

First we need to find out what the error message is. type event viewer in search. Go to the windows logs>application tab and look for errors. Errors have red in the left hand column. Look for errors that contain app crash, app hang, etc when you find them please note the event ID and source code and let us know what they are.

Let us know if y ou need help with any of this

This problem has been going on for about a week now.

If i double click a song/mp3 file it will open in windows media player an start playing as it should, so i minimize it etc. When i maximize it, the visualization freezes and the error report pops up saying windows explorer has encountered a problem, do you want to send or not and all that. So this means that my desktop disappears is all is left is the background and any programs that are open e.g windows media player. So then i have to wait for all the programs to load bak up and the task bar to pop back onto my desktop.

A few times windows media player then disappears and music is still playing. To stop this i have to find the windows media player process and kill that as it is not recognized as an open program..

Anyone know whats going on and how i can fix it?

Thanks in advance

Answer:Windows XP Crashing.

Hi and welcome to TSF

Can yo u please tell me the version of your player, maybe I could look for some hotfixes on the Microsoft Website. Also if this does not work we could try updating the software and downloading newer visualizations.

Ok so I am running macbook with a partitioned hard drive that has 120gb for the MAC os and the remaining 40gb I am using to run windows xp so my little brother can run his homeschool program on it. Now the problem is that, as of late, the windows keeps crashing after booting it up. I then get a blue screen that reads:

"A problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer.

A process or thread crucial to system operation has unexpectedly exited or been terminated."

The error code that goes along with this is:

*** Stop: 0x000000F4 (0x00000003, 0x8A2D3A50, 0x8A2D3BC4, 0x805D1204)

Can someone tell me what the error code means or better yet some possible solutions as to fix the problem?

Hi I'm new here, nice to meet you all. I've recently changed my OS from XP to Win 7 Ultimate x64. Windows 7 looks really cool. Unfortunately, problem started to show. First I've been getting frequent crashes. I did some search (before I came across this forum) and found out that the SQM Client and bad registry are some of the causes for crashing Windows 7. I tried some of the methods, however the problem still remains. I did some test to see if any of my applications would be the cause, and found out that uTorrent seems to be the major issue. I've been using uTorrent for quite a while with no problems at all. But ever since I switched to Win 7, problem seem to show.

I tried to run uTorrent alone for a couple of hours and it freezes the OS. I tried it numerous of times without any other applications and it gave me the same results. Heck, when Firefox is used together with uTorrent it speeds up the crash. My drives are all up to date and my PC specs meets the requirement for Win 7. (Except I don't have a Graphic Card):
Athlon 64 3000+ / 2GB Ram / HD 500 GB I also use a router, D-Link DI-604. uTorrent never had any problems with this when I was using XP.

Another problem which recently occurred is with the Windows Photo Viewer. When I click on a picture (regardless of which format) it 'stucks' at the loading page and the picture never shows. Strange as this did not occur when I first installed Win 7.

Last problem is with videos, I tried to use VLC player to play AVI, MKV file... Read more

I am trying to get to the root of a constant crash with Windows 8.1 but am feeling fairly helpless and could use some guidance.

After running for a while (doesn't seem to be a set time of any sort, but longer than a half hour, at least), Windows locks up and then reboots.  It can happen while I'm on Chrome or when I'm just away from the computer (I'll hear it reboot from the next room).  I usually have a website open, so I don't know if it's related to that or not.

If I catch it rebooting, there is often purple artifacting on the screen beforehand, which makes me wonder about my NVidia GeForce drivers (340.43).

I'm running Windows 8.1 Pro on an Asus G50V laptop with 8GB of RAM and an Intel Core Duo CPU P8400 @ 2.66Ghz/2.27Ghz.  I'm sure there's more info needed, so let me know.

I used to know what I was doing, but I can't even figure out which error in the Event Viewer is causing the crash.

Can someone guide me through a way to fix my issue?

Thank you in advance!

Answer:Windows 8.1 keeps crashing

Hi,
The immediate reboot seems to reduce the chance that it's heat related. This would then suggest that it may then be RAM related. The other possibility is the HDD.
I'd run the manufacturer's diagnostic utility on the HDD and then something like memtest86

Hi All,

I hope that this is not a repeat topic (I did look and couldn't find it easily), so here goes.

My wife is running Vista (SP 1 I think, she just bought it about a month ago) and now wants to move over the files from her old box. The master is a SATA drive, and her old drive is an IDE. I pulled the old HD from her old box, pullled the jumper to make it a slave drive, and put it in the new box. Upon booting, Widows runs through the bios procedure and reaches the "We're sorry, Windows didn't start properly last time....." screen. Oddly enough, it did this the very first time I booted the with the added drive. None of the options (including safe mode) will boot.

Now it gets interesting. On my desktop (XP, SP2), one more time I forgot and I attempted to install SP3. Upon successfully install SP3, same story, other than sometimes the "Windows loading" screen will flash for about a quarter second before it crashes.

Any ideas?

Thanks!

Peter

Question: Windows Crashing?

Currently experiencing the following problem:PC Boots up to login screenLogin successfullyThen after a few minutes (this varies), the screen goes black and monitor displays "no signal", keyboard has locked up, but main PC is still on.I press the reset switch, on reboot it either:1. Screen goes black just before the login screen appears2. Lets me login and then goes blackI turned the pc off for a while (30mins) then tried again. Was able to get into windows and do a system restore to a week before. Everything was ok for a while, then it did the same. Therefore I assume there is not a driver issue.Im thinking it may be related to the graphics card or even the monitor? So the only way to check this out is to borrow some kit of someone and try it out.Has anyone ever experienced anything like this before?

Answer:Windows Crashing?

Could be the graphics card.Do you have built in graphics too?Try getting into safe mode and disabling the graphics card and force windows to use the default settings. If it runs then it's the graphics card or, if it runs ok in safe mode then it would point to the graphics card.

Hi. I have had Windows 7 crash 3 times today. I've never experienced an OS this bad... at least with prior versions I could CTRL-ALT-DELETE to figure out what process was hanging up. With this, I don't even know where to begin. BTW, my company required me to use this OS. I have had to literally hit the start button to restart my machine. On a positive note, good job getting the OS to start in less than 10 minutes. That's progress.

The crashing seems to be getting worse. The first couple weeks it worked fine (I've had it a month now).

Of note: I heavily rely on running Citrix applications through https://. I have outlook open often and configured to pick up email from Customer Login. I also have a card reader and smart card in use regularly, along with basic windows apps such as Excel/Word. Other than that, I haven't done anything unusual to this machine and don't go to any suspect websites.

Please help. Thanks.

Answer:Windows 7 keeps crashing

Hi, and welcome to the forums , could you please fill in your system specs under User CP, this will help us a lot.

A few general tips that may help:
Make sure Windows is up to date.
Make sure all of your drivers are up to date (this is especially important if you've upgraded your PC from XP or Vista)
Check you don't have any malware or viruses using AntiMalware Bytes.
It may be worth checking for registry errors if you haven't done so recently (last 6 months) using a program such as CCleaner

Try doing these suggestions and post back with any results.

Answer:windows xp crashing.

The BSoD provides you with a STOP code and possibly the name of the file that caused the BSoD. Both would be helpful to know.If the computer restarts wen the BSoD occurs then follow this:Quote1. Right-click My Computer, and then click Properties.2. Click the Advanced tab.3. Under Startup and Recovery, click Settings to open the Startup and Recovery dialog box.4. Clear the Automatically restart check box, and click OK the necessary number of times.5. Restart your computer for the settings to take effect. Courtesy of microsoft.comKnowing the system specs could also be helpful. If you don't know them, provide us with a brand name and model number.

I have a Tiny pc that is repeatedly crashing, I have checked out the hardware and can find no problem with memory, hard drive etc. The owner has reloaded windows several times from the recovery disc to have it start crashing again within one week.
I reloaded from his recovery disc after reformatting the drive and again he is having crashing/freezing problems after a couple of weeks. He has ran a virus scan and ad-aware and can find no problems.
I have suggested we reload the software without using his recovery disc as I suspect there may be an error with his disc.
Has anyone else any suggestions as to what the problem may be?

If you are having a true blue screen we need the actual DMP file created when the computer crashed. Use these to find and upload them to us. http://www.sevenforums.com/crash-loc...d-problem.html

Although this problem is triggered by a multimedia product i think it is actually a problem with windows. When I am shrinking DVD's with the program DVD2ONE, the whole computer will shut down without being prompted to do so and reboot to the message 'windows has recovered from a critical error'. This never happened in the past but I have not installed any programs recently so unsure why this is happening. Any help would be much appreciated.

Is it 98SE? If you have AMD CPU and VIA USB, try this fix.

If you have a normal 98, not second edition, I'd recommend to upgrade (if possible), because second edition fixes some USB things.

Question: Windows Crashing

Recently whenever I restarted my laptop windows stops working. I get the message "The application is not responding. The program may respond again if you wait". I end the proccess and sometimes it reloads (and if it does it just goes throught the same thing again) or just seems to freeze up. I can run the system in safe mode just fine. I have done virus and malware scans to make sure it was not something from that. I also did a system restore to a previous time when it was working fine to no sucess.

have done a sfc scan - it found errors but still have the same issue when I try and boot not in safe mode.

running AVG scan in safe mode, getting a number of errors on the cmd prompt screen:

error 0xe0010058 : c:\Documents and settings\
error 0xe0010053 : c:\hiberfil.sys
error 0xe0010058 : c:\ProgramData\Documents\

to list a few

I have no audio when in safe mode - when I try and turn the audio on it does a troubleshoot and I get the message: One or more audio service not running.

Answer:Windows Crashing

Is the message not responding specifically points to a program you might be running or trying to open? Did this problem appear probably to any changes made or nothing at all?

Hi Guys,

I just got Windows 10 along with a new i7 4790k CPU. For some reason now if I leave my PC idle for more than 15 to 20 min I get a blue screen and a restart (crash). If I am running a program or a game it does fine for hours without a problem. I am running my CPU at 4Ghz and 1.300 core voltage. I also want to point out that if my core voltage is any lower than 1.300 it crashes within 10 min. Multipliers are all at 40x as well.

Also I have disabled sleep and hibernate to ensure that the computer is not trying to sleep in any way. It does crash if I put it to sleep too.

So is this a CPU issue or windows 10?

Thanks for any help.

Windows 7 crashing, Help... think it might be my power supply as it being a quad core not sure how much power i need but the power supply is a 300 watt, do i need more than that? anyway i have replaced the sata cables with better ones, but still i am getting a blue screen and errors on my desktop. nightmare, not sure how to fix it as before windows was booting up after a while now its not going past the first screen the one with advent on it. do i need to reset the bios? if so how do i do that?

Answer:Windows keeps crashing

Need more system information to tell if the power supply is enough (Make, Model Number or complete component list and all add ons like video cards, as well as anything that was changed from the original specs. etc.It probably has nothing to do with your BIOS unless you have been making adjustments or replaced the CPU without clearing the CMOS or at least resetting to defaults. If you changed any hardware you will need to update drivers. You will need to scan with your updated antivirus program AND with Malwarebytes to eliminate an infection as a possible cause.Check the internal temperatures from your BIOS to see if you have an overheating problem. Are you getting any warnings? What do the event logs say?You will need to test some hardware:Run Memtest86 to test your memory for errors.Run hard drive test utility from your hard drive mfg's website. The more information, the better we can help you. "Keeps Crashing" is not much to go by, post everything asked for as well as any test results, and we may be able to narrow it down quite a bit more for you.You have to be a little bit crazy to keep you from going insane.

To start off, I've found the fix to my problem. But only after spending an entire day troubleshooting my system; and considering, reading forums such as this was part of what helped me find the solution to my hair tearing day, I thought I'd share it with the rest of the world.

I have an Asus A8V-XE mobo with an AMD athlon X2 dual core 3800+, running an ATI Radeon X1650 vid card, using Gskill 512 x 2 DDR400 ram.....and an old IDE IBM deskstar 80 gig hard drive.

SO, after much anticipation of getting my new system up and running, the one game I play regularly was giving me some strange problems. I would play for anywhere from 30 seconds to 15 minutes and my character on Neverwinter Nights would start twitching...along with every other character on the server I play on...NPC or not. The game would crash with the always happy to see ___ has encounterd problems and will be closed by windows dialog box, and 2 different bsod's popped up too; one for portcls.sys and the other for usbdriver.sys Also, background voices would repeat erratically really fast as opposed to the regular every 30 seconds or so. Sometimes it would let me play for another 10 minutes, albeit a very frustrating 10 minutes of having to endure lag death, and other times it would crash immediately.

After installing new ram, updating every driver I possibly could, monitoring cpu and vid card temps, disabling various onboard peripherals, flashing bios changing vid settings within the game ... Read more

We don't need the optimizer, it is just something that caused the Windows XP to misbeahavior, to solve this, change the Affinity on the task manager on the specific processor.

Generally the most games don't need the optimizer. Such as Steam games.

Hey guys i signed up to this forum because I'm desperate for help. I've had this comp for the last 2 years and its never had any problem this big, but suddenly today its started crashing at random times, so often that i can't even use it. I don't know much about computers but the basic speccs are:

Windows XP x64 bit
Quad core
4gb ram
nvidia geforce 8800 gt

Sometimes it can crash while I'm still starting up the computer, but at other times i can start it up and it'll only crash when i turn on a heavy program, eg: a game.

90% of the times when it crashes, it has these strange blue dots across the screen, if thats relevant.

Oh, and also when it crashes it stops making any noises (i mean the humming-ish sounds from the comp stop). The screen just freezes, ctrl alt delete doesnt work or anything (occasionally though i can move my mouse, but clicking doesnt work).

It COULD be a virus i guess, because my anti virus expired 2 or 3 months ago and i haven't replaced it... just trying to give you guys as much info as i can.

I tried using CCleaner to clean the registry and everything, but that didn't help as far as i could see.

Please help asap guys!!

EDIT: Final note, the thing thats strangest about how it crashes when i turn on a game, is that usually i can have Limewire, Mozilla firefox and about 2 or 3 games on AT A TIME without it crashing. Now even having mozilla and 1 game on can crash it (and thats if i'm lucky).

Answer:Windows XP 64-bit crashing

The 'blue dots' phenomenon may means that it is the issue with your Graphic card.

Do you see a blue screen at any time ? If so please attach minidumps for analysis with your next post, you can find them in C:\windows\minidump. If there are multiple files please zip them together.

If there are no BSODs involved here, you can go to Control Panel, Administrative Tools, and to Event Viewer, check logs thoroughly to see whether something useful is being recorded for these events.

Lastly you should stress test your GPU with OCCT to determine whether it really is the culprit here. Regards

Hi All,

My PC keeps crashing sinse i did a fresh install. in device manager i have no yellow question marks, so assume all drivers are there. there is no real patter to this, its intermitant. this is the second clean install and the same thing happened on both installs, at least its less frequent on this install.

below i have a print out of hijack this:

event viewer shows a few errors, however i cannot work out what any of them mean specifically.

I have no idea what most of that tells me, so i would appreciat eif any one has any idea as to what is doing this.

I guess it may have to something to do with the programs i had installed on both installs, being the problem.

Can any one help?

thanks all.

Those are my specs, Win 7 clean install.
So when I shut down my computer and start later, it just freezes at the windows screen. Windows fails to load. Then I have to hold down the power button and the computer shuts down. Then I when i start it I have to have the system repaired and THEN it restarts. Last night the repair did not work and I had to restores it back to the tenth. Today I started my computer, same issue.

From what I understand this was after a Windows update. IDK how to fix it and I have to keep my computer on all the time now.

Help?

Answer:Windows 7 Keeps Crashing?

Welcome

If you think it was an update, look up when it was installed, and then use system restore from a few days before the problem. You will get the update again, but do not install this time.

You could just uninstall it, but I think you are better off with the SR, everything will go back to good times

So I have an HP pavilion dv6t-6100 quad edition, an old laptop. I have had windows 10 install before and running completely fine, but I decided to do a factory reset, since I bought an SSD to upgrade it, but after the install it keeps going to black screen a few seconds into using the computer, the computer was on, but the screen was black and there was no sound. After a few retries, I thought it might be a bad SSD and replaced it with my old, but again the same error. Then after a few tries I tried to install Ubuntu 16.04 and weirdly enough it worked perfectly for two weeks, I would like to get back to windows 10, but currently have no idea on how to fix the problem, I even tore it apart and cleaned it for dust and look if everything was fine inside, but still no luck. I could still not get windows 10 to work after that.

It's not a black screen like when the computer is turned off, it's still backlit from light.
I have even tried to install Windows 8.1 and 7, but still the same.

One time I just let it be for 5 hours when it went to black screen. In hope of it coming back, but nothing. every time it goes to blackscreen I have to hold down the power button for it to shut off.

Specs:

Intel Core i7 (2nd Gen)
Hard drive 750GB / Kingston UV400 240GB 2.5"
Ram 1x4GB and 1x2GB DDR3
65w power supply
AMD Radeon HD 6490m 1GB DDR5
Couldn't find the motherboards name

I'm having a huge problem with my laptop computer. Windows will randomly crash and go back to the black screen that asks me to start up in safe mode or normal. Sometimes the computer will boot up and others it will just stay as a black screen. It will start up in safe mode but will also randomly crash in safe mode as well. I have tried system restore, chkdisk was fine and scanned with malware bytes and nortons with no results. Any ideas? I'm thinking windows may have went kaput or (hopefully not) a hardware problem.

Answer:Windows 7 crashing

Hi - Run System File Checker.
Click on Start - Search - Type cmd
Right click on cmd.exe - select Run as Administrator.

At the Command Prompt - Type
sfc /scannow

Press Enter.
Let it run to completion - but do not close the cmd window.

To save the log file. Copy and Paste the following in Command Prompt.
findstr /c:"[SR]" %windir%\logs\cbs\cbs.log >%userprofile%\Desktop\sfcdetails.txt

Press Enter
On your desktop you will see a text file called sfcdetails.txt

http://www.thewindowsclub.com/how-to-run-system-file-checker-analyze-its-logs-in-windows-7-vista

It may take 2-3 times of running for all files to be checked and replaced-repaired.

Hi!
So, I just downloaded Hijack this as was recommended by a friend. I now quite a bit about fixing computers, but I'm in over my head. My computer has been randomly crashing recently, complete with the "blue screen of death" and all. Symantec found nothing, and SpyBot and AdAware came back clean, however PandaScan did find some spyware. So I downloaded HiJackThis and just did a scan, I've never used it before and don't know what to do with the logfile, I posted it in the appropriate forum. I was just curious if anyone had any other ideas for things for me to check for, I don't get any error messages, except that every once in a while Thunderbird has to close due to an error, but generally my computer just crashes every once in a while, no other symptoms. :-S Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Answer:Windows Xp Keeps Crashing

The 'Blue Screen of Death' (or BSOD) is refered to by Microsoft as a Stop Message. They can occur for many reasons. In order to diagnose it's cause we need as much info as you can give about the stop message. Please write it down and post it back here the next time it happens. In particular, it helps to have the somewhat cryptic series of numbers about half way down the blue screen that have this sort of format:0x0000008E (Followed by four other sets of numbers in parenthesis.) Now that you have posted a log in the HJT forum it would be best not to make changes to your system, as changes will make your log old and viod. It is best just to let your log sit and be patient. The folks in the HJT forum are very busy, so it can take a few days to get a response. Please, DO NOT make another post in the HJT forum until your log has been responded to by a member of the HJT Team. The first thing they look for, when looking for logs to reply to, is 0 replies. If you make another post there will be 1 reply. The team member glancing over the replies might think someone is already helping you out and will not respond. There are currently 128 unaswered logs.If after 5 days you still have gotten no response, then post a link to your HJT log HERE.LINK to your log.

Question: Windows 7 crashing

Hi, didn't know where to put this but I have a problem, Windows 7 tends to crash at the moment I think it's something to do with winamp and the automatic scans with AVG but I'm not entirely sure. I have had times before when I've had winamp running and tried initiating a scan on a portable drive and then it would lock up and restart. I've turned automatic restarts off now but whether I'll get a code or just get stuck on a black screen I don't know. What usually happens is the screen goes black, the music gets stuck and I end up holding the power button or letting it restart itself. It's getting very annoying now, as I'm losing drawings which I spent loadsa time on but haven't saved lol.

A few days back I formatted my hd and reinstalled windows. However, after I finished installing all the drivers the system was running pretty sluggish. Also I have no been able to get an anti-virus program running. Everytime I try to install one, after I reset the comp, it freezes after the welcome screen. Actually I can move the mouse around but it won't finish loading up. I ended up reformating again, I installed all the drivers, it ran fine for a little bit, I created a restore point, I installed a virus scan, and same happened again. Also, the system restore kept turning off after every restart. Now i'm in safe mode and can't even undo the virus scan installation. I don't get any kind of errors, it just won't work.

Previously the computer ran in this exact setup for about 6 months w/ no problems. Finally I got it so cluttered with all kinds of apps that I decided to reformat and start fresh, but it has not been working the same and I have no clue what the problem is. I have a legit copy of windows XP SP2 so i'm not trying to run some pirated thing. The virus scans that i've tried were bitdefender 9 and zone alarm security suite.

Any thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks!

Question: windows 7 crashing

New computer, i5 4gb ram, 1 week old, windows 7 premium.Keeps crashing to blue screen when using windows media player and ripping to NAS (where music is stored) or searching for an album.Seems to really hate wmp for some reason.Cant find any device or software conflicts. Upgraded patch cables to cat6 (uses gigabit)in case it was down to the computer being faster then the transfer and that was the cause. As I use computer more I've noticed that the crash happens with some games now too (Supreme Commander after working fine for 5 minutes). One final thing, when ripping cd's to NAS a warning message saying NAS full comes up despite there being lots of space. When ignored, it then rips normally. Is this a computer problem and I should send it back for a replacement or something simple I'm missing?Any advice most welcome.

This may or maybe not related, I recently built a I PC and also had BSOD after BSOD, turned out incompatible ram, changed the ram, still it happened, I removed the ram and reseated it, not had a problem since. If you purchased your PC you will not be able to open it without invalidating your warranty, but you might like to post your BSOD error messages or codes.

I've been getting about 4 BSOD's a day for more than a week now. The error messages seemed random and the only common cause I could find in the Microsoft Knowledge Base was faulty RAM. So I checked my RAM quite thoroughly and right now I'm convinced that it's ok.

Running out of ideas, I figured a reinstall might do the trick. So I wiped the entire drive with Daryl's Nuke disk and reinstalled. I ran windows update as soon as the install was finished and got a lovely BSOD while downloading the first batch of updates. I got pissed, wiped the thing again and tried to reinstall. The next 2 installations died with a BSOD while "installing devices": Stop 0x24 Ntfs.sys. This was about 24 hours ago.

In the meantime I checked my hard drives (installed the os to another drive, ran seagate's checkdisk utility and chkdsk), changed my video board and removed my LAN board. Nothing seems to work though. I already have 6 BSOD's since my last reinstall a few hours ago and absolutely no ideas about what to do next.

My current system is
Windows XP Professional Version 2002 SP 2
Soltek SL-DRV75 motherboard
AMD Athlon XP 1600+
768 MB RAM
NVIDIA GeForce2 MX 200 32 Mb VRAM
Surecom EP-320X-R PCI Adapter

All minidumps from my current installation are attached.

Thank you.

Hello, I have a friend's computer that was infected with a rogue antivirus software...I believe it was called Security Essentials, or something along those lines. It hid everything on the desktop, as well as the start menu, and shut down task manager, Microsoft Security Essentials, etc. I booted into safe mode and I was able to remove the infections using Malwarebytes and SuperAntiSpyware...I ran Rkill from bleepingcomputers.com first, and afterwards I ran RogueKiller to unhide the hidden folders, start-menu items etc. Already before I had done this the computer was crashing, but I thought that this was probably just caused by the infection. But even after the infection has been removed, it still keeps doing this. I opened a crash-dump and it seems to point to http.sys. I've already ran checkdisc, as well as sfc /scanboot, and nothing has fixed the issue yet. I also tested the memory, but that all showed as being good. I somewhat suspect a driver somewhere, because I never had it crash on me while running in safe-mode. Computer Specs: Windows XP Pro SP3 Dell Vostro 200 Intel Core 2 Duo E450D 3.25 GB RAMI also have a hijackthis log, and the results from a crash dump that I opened in windows debugger if anybody would find them useful

There is a legitimate Anti-Virus/malware program by Microsoft called Microsoft Security Essentials. Try posting the Hijack log at Trend Micro. This has happened 1-2 times before in the past and i just clicked end process and everything would try reload itself and it would.

this time nothing happened, I was only able to move my mouse around but not click. So i restarted the computer and it did the exact same thing again. this happened twice, Then i decided to unplug all the cables and let it sit for a few minutes. Sure enough after that it worked. Although as i was typing this thread it did it again but re-gathered itself after 2 minutes.

Here are my specs:

The machine is less than a year old.

Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit
Intel(r) core i7-2600k cup @ 3.40GHz
4096MB Ram
AMD Radeon HD 6800 series
ATI Display adapter

I have also left a copy of my Eventviewer in a .zip

Thanks alot for your time.

Cludo,
Welcome to SevenForums.

First, here is how to fill out your system specs:
Update your SevenForums System Specs
User CP (located on the top menu bar) |
Your Profile | Edit System Spec (left-hand column)

To gather info, use Speccy (my favorite) or SIW or System Info

Add the word laptop or desktop or netbook to the
“system manufacturer” block, for example,
Toshiba Satellite L305D notebook.

Provide full windows version info, for example:
MS Windows 7 Ultimate SP1 64-bit

Use the “Other Info” block for Optical Reader,
Mouse, touchpad, wifi adapter, speakers, monitor, etc

Scroll down and click on SAVE CHANGES.

Answer:windows 8 keep crashing

hi justwira,

Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!

It seems that the HDD is havinv problem loading stuff on it.
If you have another computer that you can connect the HDD into, Try running an HDD test like HDTUNE errorscan.
If you dont have another computer to run the Test, i suggest you call Lenovo Technical Team and report the problem.
But this issue points out to the HDD

Regards
Solid Cruver
