IP cameras for home security system...

Question: IP cameras for home security system...

I was given a Stealth Video NVR-IP-64S4k DVR system from my IT friend at a former employer we worked for since they upgraded the system they have there. Its only 2 years old and supports 8 drives and at least 25 cameras from what I remember.

I need suggestions for some good, relatively inexpensive IP based cameras that I could get for it. The cheapest I have found so far start at $150 each and I would need to get 10 of them to cover everything I want to.

Preferred Solution: IP cameras for home security system...

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Didnt know where to put this exactly.

We have been having problems around our neighborhood with some local kids egging cars, breaking in and stealing petty stuff (Change and money mostly), sometimes breaking windows, stealing stereos.

I need a webcam solution for this. Just need to be able to watch/record about 50 Feet on the side yard. Low light compatibility is a must. Anyone have any suggestioins? Wireless or wired, dosnt matter. Looking to spend $200.

I realize this thread isn't along the same lines as network security, but I didn't feel it really fell into any of the other categories.

Does anyone use their computer as a hub for home video security? There's been a serious influx of crimes of opportunity where I live (Student Housing part of town near school) and my doors only have basic locks. (Not even a deadbolt)

Ideally, I'd just switch out the locks. Not an option, as per landlord. My stuff is all insured, but if I can't catch a would be robber at gunpoint, I damn well want a picture of him.

Any suggestions?

I am a total newbie to all this DDNS stuff, but here goes...
My parents just installed some security cameras at their home. They would liek to be able to view the cameras when they are away via the internet. I went over there this weekend and got the DVR unit hooked up to their home network, and assigned it a static IP address using DHCP reservations in the routers settings. They can view their cameras now from their home computers with no problem.
Now, for my question....I read that the only way they will be able to view their cameras when away is if they got a DNS host. I read about having to forward ports and got them signed up with dyndns.com free account.
And now...I am completely at a loss as to what I need to do and what settings I need to have entered where to make this work.
They have a Trendnet TEW-631BRP router. (If anyone cares to look at the users manual on that router, here is the direct link to the site where it can be dowloaded: http://www.trendnet.com/downloads/list_subcategory.asp?SUBTYPE_ID=1102 )
All their computers run XP, and the DVR unit has a software program called "Remote Agent" The DVR unit has settings that can be modified. These settings are:
DHCP on or off, DDNS on or off, DDN Name (which is currently "DVR.NAME") and IP address, gateway, subnet, and the other typical Network settings.
I plugged in the settings for my router (as far as the gateway and DNS servers and stuff are concerned) and assigned it the IP address that ... Read more

Question: Security Cameras

First of all, lets assume I have a static ip.
I want to view about 5 security cameras from a remote location with Internet access.
So my questions are:
1. Would I do this with a vpn?
2. Could I stream them some how to a website?
3. Is there a video to LAN converter. So, lets say that I have a rca connection (the yellow one) and something that would take that signal, and I could use the vpn to view it?
Thanks!

this guy i know owns a gym and he wants to be able to view his security cameras from his house.

I think the cameras are attached to a PC. would the easiest way be to like set up VNC on the computer and have him access it by that? if not, how could he do it?

Answer:Anyone ever done anything with security cameras?

I've done it using VNC/PC Anywhere, worked okay. You could also find a camera package that allows you to view them via a web browser. Axxis makes one that works fairly well, they also make network video DVR's so you can save the video feeds.

Question: security cameras

Hi, i need a crash course on security cameras. my 13 year old daughter has been increasingly concerned about noises she keeps hearing out side of her bedroom window. i am 95% certain that it is simply small animal(s) doing what they do in the dark. as i have scared rabbits and cats out from that area several times, but she keeps thinking it is a person.
i do not need a large system, but it will have to be a "see in the dark" camera, and be able to be used year round. fortunately there is a nice overhang corner i can mount it in, which will allow a clear view of her exterior bedroom window area. wireless would be nice, but going up on a ladder to change batteries all of the time would not be acceptable.
i would prefer something that i would be able to view from my computer, as i do not own anything that is Apple or Android. i wouldn't mind another camera facing the front door, but that would be more of a luxury than a necessity.
in the odd chance that it happens that someone is out there, (we happened to have a convicted sex offender move into a home down the road a few houses, but i refuse to jump to that conclusion w/o proof) i would like to be able to capture a clear image to give to the police day or night. i am not sure how many pixels i would need for this.

Can anyone help me with the camera server to static ip thing?

I can see the camera server on LAN fine, and i can see the web fine, but i cant see the camera server from a remote location on the web.

i have a static ip but entering that information into the server locks me out and i have to re-enter the default ip and port 80 settings to be able to talk to it again.

I'm running the AP software of both server and isp provided ST780 wireless router from my xp laptop, and i can individually talk to both via LAN.

There is no manufacturer advice other than open ports 5000 - 5002, tried that and it did nothing.

To me this sreams "ROUTER!!!!" and there are some things that are messing with my head! Firstly the ST780 KNOWS... that it has somethin plugged up its tail pipe but cant recognise it!!! In the software it shows a physical address and an ip address but they dont match and therefore it wont list the server as a device. Its either unknown or there is no entry.

So.... my questions to you fine people are ..... do i persevere with port forwarding? Does the Static ip info have to be entered into the server? or is it enough to forward from the static to the default lan ip and port 80 settings? How does this help the ST780 to recognise the server or should i be buying a router that cares!!!

Or am i 1 octet short of a full ip and missing the point completely????

We are shopping around for some enterprise IP security camera solutions. We have the following requirements

Cameras must communicate via IP.
Solution must have both indoor and outdoor cameras
Cameras must be color, night vision
Solution must have accessories to pan, tilt, motion track, etc
Solution must be able to scale from 5 cameras to 50+
Solution MUST be enterprise quality. No home security/consumer solutions.

Anyone know any systems I might check out?

How integrated you need this to be? Do you need it to be integrated to your existing IT like a Cisco system, or do you want it running sperate?

Folks,

I've got "security system in a box" setup. It came with 8x 1080p PPOE cameras, an 8 port switch, and a DVR. The cameras are all TCP/IP.

It works. All cameras are up and running and I can access the DVR from any computer on my home network.

However, the DVR is SLOOOOOOW. I can barely get it to replay any video without timeouts and dropouts. The software is hard to figure out, as well. (I access it via TCP/IP on my home network.)

I've got some spare computer hardware. I'd like to build my own Network Video Recorder, but don't know where to start. Sure, I can toss a motherboard/cpu/gpu into a box, and plug the satellite switch into it. But, what software do I use to run the system? What do I do after I click the Ethernet cable from the camera satellite switch into the mobo network port and turn on the box?

I'd like to be able to record a full 1920x1080x30fps from each of 8 cameras and have full replay ability from any recorded stream, as well.

(I assume any security software will allow me to setup the cameras for record on motion, record on time, and record manually, as well as any other "normal" functions.)

Where do I start???

Thanks,
Ken

So a few weeks ago we installed usb security cameras. They were set to record to our xp desktop on the d drive. we have not had them recoding for the last few weeks. The problem is that we set the username and password for the camera net work. But today, when I tried to turn my computer on the log in screen was different. Instead of the blue screen , I got a black screen with a small dialog box with username and password for the camera combined in the username box. in the password box were characters [I don't know what characters] and another dialog box saying it couldn't log me in. There is no password set for this computer. And the computer was on last night when I went to bed but was off this morning and no one turned it off.

I am building a house in an isolated area. I would like to set up a web cam or two at the construciton site to monitor the job. There is no electricity or phone available at the construction site. These units will have to be wireless and battery powered. I would like for them to send a radio signal back to my home, that is 2500' away (800 meters), that I can monitor and record with my PC. I have the PC and would like to keep it under $500 to set up the camera and broadcast system. Any suggestions?

Answer:Suggestion for security cameras

Short answer: No, and if monitoring and recording is that important, get some professionals to set it up for you unless you are ready to drop money (and possibly lots of it) into researching this endeavor.

Once you get past the clearing the land part of construction, the next step is to get electricity to the lot. People who pour your concrete slabs usually want some electricity and the framers will definately want power.

But to do what you suggest, you'll probably have to get a deep cycle battery or two depending upon how much power the camera and transmitter uses. If your thinking about those 802.11 wireless cameras, you will need some highly directional antennas. Probably parabolic would be the cheapest to send that signal 2500'. Keep in mind you will need a dish for both the transmitting camera and the receiving end which will probably be an access point. This would be the cheapest way, but not necessarily the most reliable since most web cams are not durable enough for 24/7 use as surveillance cameras. Unfortunately, most professional security cameras still use analog signals that you can throw a transmitter and receiver on it, but you will need some sort of video input on the receiving end and possibly digitized so that it can work over the internet. Also that deep cycle battery probably will last a week or so before you will need to change and recharge it.

To tell you the truth, your going to have to think hard about what requirements you wi... Read more

Check out the D-Link cameras. http://www.dlink.com/products/category.asp?cid=60&sec=0

I had one a while back before we put in a "real" security system at work. It was "ok", but not totally reliable uptime wise. I'm sure those issues have probably been worked out in their newer models. They also had a piece of software that could be used to record, upload images to FTP, etc.

Edit: forgot to mention, the camera we were using was wireless, so that might have had something to do with the reliability issues.

So while on Christmas vacation, some tool decided to kick the side of my car repeatedly, severely damaging it. The vehicle was in it's assigned spot in front of our townhouse. The complex has security, but nothing that covers our spot, which is ten feet in front of my door. I'd like to set up my own security camera from my office, which directly overlooks the parking spots we use. Hi,

I can access my security camera system by plugging it into our local network - done that.

I then browse to the system via its IP address in a browser window and log in - no problem. HOWEVER, then I hit a snag of Quicktime being unavailable and as far as I recall, there's some reason I can't use H.264. This means I get no pictures.

I'd like to straighten the cameras; over time they move a little out of place, probably from the strong winds we get but without either one of the computers or the tablet being able to use H.264 (what exactly is that?) or Quicktime, I can't look at what the cameras are seeing while I adjust them and have to keep jumping off the ladder and going back inside and then trying to remember which way is which - when it comes to the rotation, it's worse than looking into a mirror and trying to go the right way, just doesn't seem to be intuitive.

This laptop is XP Pro SP3 and has a Firefox version 29.0.1 available and if I dug around, I could probably track down older versions of Firefox, possibly back to version 3, if that helps. I know I had all this working sometime in the past but nothing seems to work it now and I suspect it has to do with updates and disabling of Quicktime.

The tablet is Kitkat (Android 4.4.2) and has the 'blue' browser, Chrome and Firefox on it. I can either connect the tablet directly to the cameras (if it can be got working!) or install TeamViewer onto it and connect it to the lap... Read more

I am using a IFS 24-port Gigabit Stackable Managed PoE Switch IEEE 802.3af Power over Ethernet (PoE) 1 U and have a power question. I am using it to run IP security cameras on a job and don't have the switch on-line yet. The cameras are going in and we are unable to power them/ aim and focus without it. Is it possible to make an RJ 45 "adapter" to temporarily power them up at the camera? My thoughts are to find the pins that provide power from the switch, make an RJ plug that only has 2 wires in it and connect them to a separate portable power supply, then plug directly into the camera for setup. Then land the switch when the rack is ready.

Q: 568B is what they will be wired for, which pins are for power ( P+ and P- )

Q: What is the correct / standard voltage from the PoE port ?- or does this depend on the camera?- it shouldn't, the cameras are not field selectable- they are IEEE 802.3af.

Q: Can this be done? I only need power for now and I have a separate video out on the cameras for a test monitor.

....it's more of a Tech guy/ bench guy question I know, but I trust the opinions here. Any help is appreciated.

A friend of mine is taking over the running of a new bar and wants to install web cameras on the premises. The idea is that he can log on from home and see what's going on, aswell as having them watching tills and the like. Whilst this is a standard practice in a lot of licenced premises he's not sure how to set this up and neither am I!I'm guessing fixed IP web hosting and networked web cams integrated in a website of some description, but not sure what else.Anyone done this before?

Answer:Networked security cameras over internet

First: you need a server at the premises with a special card in it, which accepts the feeds from the camera's. Depending on how many camera's are proposed, will depend upon how many ports in the card you need.Second: you need the required number of camera's of the correct sort for what you what to do. Cables have special terminals and are generally pre-manufactured.Third: you need software on the client that enables you to view multi-camera views and select any particular image you want at a given time.Fourth: you need a dedicated service provider that can give you the bandwidth required for your particular installation. This will vary depending on the installation.click here for a reliable supplier.

My dad and I are switching from an analog-based system to IP cameras. So far, I've purchased 2 Hikvision 3MP EXIR bullet cameras to test and they're quite nice. We saw on Amazon that there's a company called GW Security Inc. that sells 5MP cameras for insanely cheap. The reviews are quite mixed though so I was wondering if anyone here had any personal experience with them.

Here's a link to the camera in question:
http://www.amazon.com/GW-Security-Inc-GW2040IP-Surveillance/dp/B00LPJ7FC6/

5MP, PoE, varifocal zoom, and 40M IR illumination for $119 sounds too good to be true. I can't find any reliable information on google. Reviews on the company's other products sound fake and endorsed. I'm leaning towards using all Hikvision cameras but I need some proof to convince my dad. He's drawn in by the feature list but all I see is a huge red flag.

Answer:GW Security Inc. Cameras, trustworthy/reliable?

Feature lists do not determine price or quality of IP Cameras for the most part.

I have used $500/ea 1MP cameras and $100/3MP cameras. The sensor used, ability to deal with dynamic range of light (lights to darks), encoder quality, lens quality, software etc. all make huge differences in the end result.

Hikvision is solid, as is Dahua. Next step up I would look at ACTi. Then comes in the big dogs like Panasonic/Axis.

I dont even rank Foscam/Dlink/etc. as they are really home consumer grade setups.

Reference: I professionally install cameras. My bread and butter is ACTi as they are solid cameras, have a great software NVR that comes with a 16ch license, and the performance is extremely good both day and night. I have been doing more Hikvision/Dahua work lately though too.

My apartment building installed security cameras. Was told I could monitor the cameras on my PC and the tech guy will install what is needed to make it happen. What it looked like he only loaded an IP address into the address bar. He was done in a matter of a minute and things worked great. I did put the link into my favorites bar. I don?t monitor the cameras everyday but I do use it.

I upgraded to Windows 10 everything seems to be working great, except the security cameras monitoring. I went to the manager?s office they said the IP changed and I have entered the new IP address and it?s not working for me.

It looked so simple when the tech guy did it.

The manager?s office said the tech guy will come and fix it, well I have been waiting for a few months.

So on my own doing some research it looks like he loaded an ADD ON called ?SurveillanceCtrl Control? and in ?C:/webrec? maybe something happened to them when I load Windows 10.

I don?t know what to do and I don?t want to do something wrong and hate myself later for doing it. If more information is needed just ask.

I am needing some friendly instructions.

does anyone currently use, or has used/setup wireless security cameras?
i want to get a few cameras around the house and have them internet accessible
it seems to me like it would be much more ideal for me, rather than buying a camera dvr, running wires, etc. wireless would be cheaper right?
how could i record from the cameras onto my pc? 24/7 or motion sensor recording

thanks in advance

Answer:Wireless Security Cameras - Anyone expierenced?

This is mostly just a bump, because I'm looking to do something similar, except for outside my house and would like to hear what others have to say about something like this.

In the meantime, I've been checking out www.x10.com, as they seem to have some good cameras and kits available, but no all-in-one PVR kit.

I was able to find a few places that sell PVR kits with a recorded and cameras, but they all start at around 600-700 bucks which is a bit high for my purposes. Maybe that's a good start. Hope that helps to some extent, and I'll be checking back to see what everyone else says.

Hi, Ive just got a nice little LinkSys Wireless-G camera for my home network. I have a NetGear router which it connects to in a wireless fashion, naturally. My question is - how do I view my camera's output over the internet outside of my network? I have now turned on Remote Management on the router, but I still can't see it at the IP which is assigned. Does this have anything to do with anything? All help is really appreciated as I am heading on holiday soon! Thanks, Nik

Answer:Home networked cameras - internet viewing - elp!

I have tried accessing it over the internet by entering http://[WANIP]:[PORT]. This does not work. I can see my router's admin page by entering the WANIP plus port 80. I have run a port scanner and the port assigned to the camera in the port forwarding rules is responding.... I can't work out the problem here at all.

Hello!

I am an IT Administrator for a local business, and we recently had a large storm. We were required to replace all existing networking gear. Our security camera system is now unable to be viewed via app. I have tried so many things that it is not even funny at this point - it is ridiculous.

I have tried opening the ports on the Arris, but a port scan reveals they are in fact closed. I don't see a place to open ports on the Netgear - does this mean that we should purchase a new router, other than the Netgear? (Personally, I prefer something other than it but..)

Network/Camera setup:

NETWORK:

- Arris router (ISP provided w/ coax going into it)

- Netgear smart (Business bought , Arris connects to this which this then projects a 2.4ghz and a 5ghz wireless network, along with a 2.4ghz guest wireless connection.

CAMERA:

- One "Platnium" DVR - Configured network correctly
- One "Platnium" NVR - Configured network correctly

I need to know how to fix this issue that I am having.

If you have any additional questions, feel free to reply.

Thank you so much!

A recent study by security firm Protection1 discovered over 6,000 no-password, open-access security cameras spread across the US.

According to the company's findings, many of these cameras are located in public places, at the headquarters of private enterprises, and even in the homes of many Americans.

Protection1 noted that the highest concentration of unprotected cameras is around big urban centers, such as the San Francisco Bay area, the Los Angeles area, Seattle, Chicago, the Florida cities, and all over the Atlantic coast, from Washington DC to Boston.

A camera without a password is a peeping hole for crooks
These towns are the centers of many security hot spots, like airports, military bases, and hospitals, so the large number of unprotected cameras should ring alarm bells with the people in charge of those systems.

Protection1 also ranked the number of unprotected cameras per 100,000 residents and came up with a top ten cities with the largest density of open-access cameras.

Leading the pack is the small town of Walnut Creek, California, with 89.69 open-access cameras per 100,000 citizens. The other towns in this top ten list were also small-to-medium cities, and Protection1 believes that the lack of critical security needs in these smaller towns has allowed authorities to relax when it comes to the e-security of these systems.

Hi everyone,

I recently purchased a new hard drive that I can record my surveillance footage with, the only problem I am having at the moment is that I click record onto the hard drive and after a while the hard drive goes into sleep mode or whatever. Then at the end of it all when I decide to stop recording it doesn't save onto my hard drive.

So all I need to know really is there any way of keeping my hard drive running all the time so that it doesn't go into this sleep mode.

I have already gone into my power settings and disabled the USB selective suspend setting and this hasn't worked for me.

Thanks (Y)

Answer:Security Cameras & External Hard Drive

Hi there
seems to me that you've got two problems here.

1) The recording camera software -- IMO this should be writing to disk every so often rather than waiting to the end of the recording -- I don't know the software but since its security related it must be capable of creating decent timestamps and write to a log file every so often. You should perhaps depending on the software even be able to have the logs re use themselves say after 5 logs have been created --overwrite log 1 again etc.

Without knowing the setup / settings of this program its impossible to say why data isn't being written to the disk --maybe it IS but to a file on drive C and you have to copy the data manually. I should definitely look at this.

2) Power / sleep / hibernate settings on the computer --ensure that disks are turned off --never, computer isn't hibernated / screen saved etc.

You CAN have the screen to switch off after so many minutes --that won't be a problem.

Another silly problem believe it or not is that the hard disc can be filled so it will stop -- but the directory entry is not written so the disk still appears empty or at least your footage won't be there.

Video footage can consume INORDINATE amounts of data if the compression etc isn't set decently.

Cheers

My son, who lives out of state, setup a home security system so I can view all around my yard outside. And he can view my yard from his home. At my home he has it so it's constantly on. on this small television (I don'tuse), and (a laptop I don't use) I am trying to get it on the laptop I currently use. Everytime I try this, my computer refuses to allow it to download it, as it considers it a threat. I have tried to enable everything so it will stop the blocking. So far nothing works, I just cannot download it. He is not here to help me, how can I fix this.

What program is blocking the download? If it's a Windows 8 PC, the block has to be disabled in the BIOS.How do you know when a politician is lying? His mouth is moving.

Any ideas?

If you don't have the commercial package, I believe they block port 80. Try an alternate port for the cameras.

Answer:I am trying to connect to my home security system

Those are internal IP addresses which are not routable over the internet. Port forwarding would have to be used if the system can connect over the net.How do you know when a politician is lying? His mouth is moving.

I'm wondering if anyone has used an aftermarket security system in their home? I am deciding if it is something I want to invest some money and time looking into. I probably don't need the professoinal systems with monthly monitoring, just something that will give my wife and I peace of mind.

Ok, here's my situation. My uncle was wanting to monitor his up-north cabin with about 4 security cameras. (mostly outdoor) I have been researching a little bit, have been to the stores to look at professional security systems they sell retail, and got some ideas from other people's setups in offices and here at work. He wants me to set up his system for him. I know how to set it all up once all the stuff has arrived, but I need a little help, and hopefully some of you guys have done some of these system and know what is good.

He already purchased some little cameras from www.x10.com, but I'm unsure how they connect, or even how good of quality they are since they were only about $70 each. I believe they are just composite video. He's got the floodlight motion activated hidden camera, and a few of the regular stationary cameras. He has 4 cameras total.

I would like to build him a cheap system, under $1000 if possible to be able to monitor these cameras via computer. (he already has the computer, so the cost would be mostly for the cameras and stuff) They get frequent power outages, sometimes 3x a day because its a crumby power grid out in the woods. I would set him up with a 2000va or larger power backup, then he's ordering a diesel generator that kicks on after 20mins or so the power would still be up and running.

I've looked up a few companies such as SAM that do professional security setups, but most are in the $3000 range for a 4-ca... Read more

Answer:Home Video Security System

The $1000 price mark will be hard to do for 4 cameras. I just recently installed a 5 camera system and the cost of decent cameras was about $250 each. Those $70 one from x10 suck horribly outdoors. They are best suited for small indoor rooms and they don't even do that very well.

As for the PCI cards, they do exist. We use a 4 port BNC card here but they are EXTREMLY motherboard dependant, IE the manufacturer only list 3 recommended motherboards for use with them.

Also, real software for this application can be around the $400-$500 mark. And i would be very impressed if you found a joystick controlled camera with they periphals and software for less than $1000.

PM if you have any specific questions or want some brand names.

The thread on the release of MSE has sparked some debate so lets fully explore the subject here.
I am currently running the following security setup in additional to a regular disk imaging schedule for backups:
1. MSE
2. Malwarebytes (Paid Version)
3. Secunia PSI
4. Win Patrol
5. Windows Firewall
6. UAC Enabled
I was running the following before switching to MS.
1. All of the above but I had KIS 2010 instead of MSE
2. I noticed that MSE turned off Windows Defender but I was running that as well.
Question is: Am I as Safe?

I'm interested in using an older computer for setting up a home computer cam security system. Something with acouple of cameras. I've seen home security software that can turn a webcam into a motion sensing camera for the computer that can even save the file to online site as well as the sending a message to you cell phone warning you of a possible breaking. It says you can even have several cams running adn will work on windows 98 to xp, but there's nothing about what about system requirements. So I'm wondering what requirements are needed for the setup. Would I need a dual core computer? I have an old single core athlon 3200 with 2 gig ddr ram and a 250 gig hard drive, Would that be good enough??

Answer:To run a home security cam what system requirements are needed

I can't imagine that you would need a dual core for the program, especially since the program states that it will run on Win 98.

Is it just me or do you find digital still cameras or video cameras are lacking with the time? What I mean by that is video editing software is old and the hardware and software does not support 64 bit.

It seems every thing is going 64 bit now for some reason. But alot of the software is 32 bit like most software and hardware out there. The editing software is old .But if you go to the store most all new computers and OS are 64 bit.

Are 64 bit that much faster than 32 bit ?I know with 64 bit you can address more memory than 4GB of RAM.But I guess a CPU working with 64 bit can do more than 32 bit .
How do the still cameras or video cameras work on Windows Vista that is 64 bit?How are the new hardware and software out there work with 64 bit like the new editing software that is 64 bit?

sorry if my question is confusing but I really do not know what I'm talking about here.

Answer:still cameras or video cameras lacking with the time?

how do you know they don't support it? more and more every day there are new drivers coming out for 64bit. and with the 32bit not recognizing 4GB of ram. i read that when they come out with the full SP1 for vista. there's going to be a fix for the 32bit to recognize all the ram.

I like to keep my questions nice an obscure. I'm troubleshooting scanner access for some users with very unique setups, and in doing so, I found myself needing to access the Scanners and Cameras folder on remote machines. Lo and behold, there is no such folder, only a DLL, wiashext.dll. That's all well and good. A quick search through the registry shows my how to launch the Install Scanners and Cameras wizard, rundll32 wiashext.dll,AddDeviceWasChosen. But that only works on the local machine. And it only launches the wizard, it doesn't show me what's already installed. PSExec doesn't pop anything when I run the command from an instance of CMD.exe on the remote machine, and I'm trying to do this without logging in to the machine.

So I've got two questions, and I'll take an answer to either one.

1. How do you pop the Scanners and Cameras "Folder" using rundll32 wiashext.dll?

2. How do you pop...anything...using rundll32 on a remote machine?

Hello all,I initially encountered the XP Internet Security 2012 and followed the procedure here to successfully eliminate the problem.Recently, the "System Check" Virus infected the system and I found this post and ran the combofix tool latest versions (12-01-13.3, 12-01-13.05 and now 12-01-17.01) to clear out the issue which appeared to work each time but shortly following, the System Check would eventually reinfect.Today, after the latest run of the combofix tool and the system appearing clean, I used MS IE (while Avast was still temporarily disabled) on the pc to download the DDS.scr tool directly from that url to gather supplemental logs to post here. After the DDS tool successfully finished running, XP Home Security 2012 windows began appearing. Here are the log files from the latest combofix, DDS and I will add Gmer when I can get it to run. Right now, no executables can run no matter if they are named with .scr or .bat extensions. Avast produces an "attempt to run file C:\Documents and Settings\Issabella\Local Set...\qkm.exe" alert and allowing it to run does not succeed.Update:I rebooted to safe mode into the user account and successfully applied the FixNCR.reg and iexplorer.exe variant of "rkill" to halt the execution of the XP Home Security 2012 for this boot session. I have included the rkill.log and Gmer output at the end of this post. Here are the log files:ComboFix 12-01-17.01 - Isabella 01/17/2012 11:36:08.6.1 - ... Read more

Answer:Infected with System Check Virus, now also with XP Home Security 2012

Update: I was able to run rkill to end the XP Home Security 2012 while in safe mode and then run the Gmer and generate logs. The new logs are posted in the original message.

I cannot change cameras I want to use on some websites (Skype and yahoo ok). When I go to try to select an external cam on some websites which merely show "About Adobe Flash Player" in the "camera area", I can't seem to pull up the icon which allows me to select the external camera. The internal camera works just fine on those sites, but if I disabled the internal camera "hoping the computer" would recognize the external camera as the "new default" camera, I then have no camera whatsoever on those sites. Missing something. Help!?

That should be controlled through the Flash Control Panel item - It's "Camera and Mike settings by Site" - You may have the sites you want blocked.

I know just enough to be dangerous so be gentle, I need advice for home use with the plan of having VOIP (Ooma) and a PoE camera surveillance system (ability to view with smart phone) and normal internet usage.

Currently have cable (Time Warner) with a Linksys E2500 router.

(Here comes the dangerous part) I read that having a managed switch would allow the 3 different usages listed above to be separate (VLAN) plus allow VOIP to be prioritized.

Does this make sense or am I drinking to much kool-aid?

Any specific hardware recommendations appreciated.

reagrds,
Ken

Answer:Home-VOIP, security system and internet usage; managed or unmanaged switch

Yes and no, VOIP would be prioritized but only within the LAN not on your WAN connection which your router handles (I have no idea if this is possible in a decent way on your Linksys). You would however need a switch for PoE but make sure that it follows 802.3af and/or 802.3at otherwise you'll still need power injectors rendering the switch pointless from a PoE aspect.

That said, PoE-switches gets expensive fast and since you're not mentioning how many ports you need its a bit hard to make any recommendations.

The other day when I started the computer it said it restarted automatically after a windows update. Then after a minute after start up it said yahoo toolbar had been updated as well and I clicked OK. I then went to open firefox and it seemed as if I had no internet connection and then I restarted firefox since it was not opening anything, upon doing a search on google for the urban dictionary I was sent a redirect and then started to get fake warning saying my system was infected I closed out those windows with the upper right X, and then looked up the name of the fake program and was redirected a few more times. I followed the guide on this website and performed everything it said http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/virus-removal/remove-xp-home-security-2012,
I also followed this guide http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/virus-removal/remove-tdss-tdl3-alureon-rootkit-using-tdsskiller, and ran tdss killer as stated, it didn't find anything.
I was going to post the intial findings of malware bytes and rkill but now cannot see the my computer or anything except recent program files.
Upon the first run of malware bytes it did remove XP home security 2012, but I was still getting redirects when using google search and yahoo. I ran malware bytes again and it didn't find anything the 2nd time, because I was still getting redirects I ran ad aware and it found some supposed trojans and removed those. After restarting I was still getting redirects and I seen on google how so... Read more

Hi there,

I'm new to this forum.

The other day I got hit by Vista Home Security and Windows Home Security virus. It's made my computer completely useless(no Internet access).

For the past 2 days I've trying to fix it but to no avail.

At first I went to safe mode and tried a restore to a prior period but the virus was even in safe mode. Any time I tried to restore, the virus pops up even after I tried to end process.
So I did some research and found this:

http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/virus-removal/remove-win-7-internet-security-2011

I loaded rkill and Malwarebytes onto my computer using a USB stick. But rkill is not stopping the Vista Home Security and Windows Home Security virus from running so that I can download Malwarebytes and run it so that I can remove the virus.

Every time I run rKill I get the black screen and then after a while I get this message and then a notepad the program finished.

" sed.exe: can't read c:\users\acer\appdata\local\temp\rks1.log: no such file or directory "

The Vista Home Security and Windows Home Security virus wasn't disable so that I could download and run Malwarebytes.

I tried it in normal mode and safe mode.

The big issue is that the virus hit my work computer and I got a deadline.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

when I log in to live view admin, then i start live view, the video feed will remain for 1 or 2 seconds only, then go black, I can see its the correct feed, just will not stay live on the 6 camera feed?

Answer:I use Live view for my security cameras, how can I get it to stay on the live feed?

If I remember correctly, a similar question on the same topic was posted a few days ago. If it was also yours, then you may want to create a Windows Central account so that you would be able to monitor and participate in the thread you've already started, without having to create a new one about the same topic.
Regarding the issue you're facing, could it be a connection issue/limited band width?

I'm looking to put in a home security camera system but the cameras have to be totally wireless (run on battery along with wifi to the receiver/unit). We live in a 1953 house so there isn't external power in the eve's and being able to run wiring through this place is like an act of congress so using wired cameras is a no go.

I'm not up on all the security camera tech so I'll just list what I'm after lol. Looking for a complete system and I would really like to stay under $500 ($300-$400 range makes me feel much better and I won't have to hear the "You paid what?")

There are so many different brands out and so many different varieties I don't know what to really pay attention to in the specs. Some have cameras that are 1080p but the unit is only 720p or some crazy stuff like that goes on. It's like some of these are just pieced together with left over parts.

I want the whole unit to be the same image quality unlike what I mentioned above. If the cameras are 1080p then I want it recording and displaying the same not some downgraded pixel trash. lol
6-8 outdoor weatherproof night vision (80-100'+ total darkness would be ideal) 1080P or better cameras
wifi is a must along with battery powered cameras (really no way to run wiring to them no eve access through the attic)
Live 24/7 filming with cell app access to view cameras
Would prefer a HD to be included but doesn't have to be since 2TB+ Drives are on sale all... Read more

Not real sure if this is the right area but I will ask anyway.

Basically I would like to setup multiple web cameras and be able to view the images over the net? (For security - not PORN)
I am not real sure what would be the ideal method and have not been able to find any real helpfull information other than costs.

If anyone could point me in the right direction or offer any tips, advice, how to and what about - help, I would be very appreciative.

Basic idea I have would be to install cameras and means to capture video and connect to a pc that has internet access.

Now I know better and it CANNOT possibly be that simple.

Thanks before hand - wiLLis

Answer:hp pavilion home pc system recovery winxp home edition

You can't legally download XP.
HP will sell you an install disc at a reasonable price.
What kind of errors are on the old disk? It may be repairable.
It's possible to copy the contents of the old disc to the new one.
Tell us more and there may be a solution.

I cannot get rid of this trojan Security Center|UPDATESDISABLENOTIFY (PUM.Disabled.SecurityCenter). Since January, my Avira AV fails to run scheduled scans and now it will not launch at all. Windows System Restore won't create restore points. "System Restore not able to create a restore point. Please restart your computer, and then run system Restore again," and Windows XP Security Center notifications are constantly disabled by a PUM virus/trojan. And GMER hangs and does not comoplete or crashes my system with blue screen. Malwarebytes AntiMalware does however repeatedly find and quarantines the PUM.

Google Chrome v21.0.118079 fails to auto install Adobe Flash player and Google Chrome Settings always resets Background Apps from Disabled to Enabled on system restart. I researched and just found a command line command to keep Background apps from launching.

Adobe Flash Player fails to update to current version.

12 Windows Security Updates download and then report as Installed, but continue to show as needing to install.

Malwarebytes Pro (Trial) reports blocking malicious IP outgoing web attempts.

Please see DDS report attached. No GMER report cause it hangs and doesn't finish. Thanks!

I just want to share my experience with being unable to boot my ThinkPad X220 due to entering a wrong supervisor password. Thanks to great support by Lenovo Denmark, I was able to resolve this issue - what better than to share the knowledge with the rest of the Lenovo community. PROBLEM:You have entered a wrong supervisor password (SVP) three times and thus presented with the following error during boot-up:ERROR 0199: System Security ? Security password retry count exceeded.Your only option is to press <F1> to enter BIOS setup. It is not possible to boot any OS nor enter ThinkVantage recovery. SOLUTION:If you have lost the SVP, chances are you will need to have the system board replaced by Lenovo. However, if you do manage to regain your SVP but are unable to get rid of the "ERROR 0199" message, try this:1) Enter BIOS setup utility with your SVP2) Press F9 to restore default settings3) Press F10 to save settings and reboot BACKGROUND:Even if you regain your SVP, it may be troublesome to get rid of the 0199 error. In the X220/X220i hardware maintenance manual, the instructions are to enter BIOS setup and press F10 to save the settings, which did not work in my case. Changing security settings, disabling/changing passwords, clearing the security chip - nothing seemed to get rid of the error.I called Lenovo support and was instructed to restore the default BIOS settings. While not making much logical sense, restoring to defaults somehow triggered the error to ... Read more

It?s not uncommon for security solutions to have issues with products offering functionality that overlaps or conflicts theirs, and Microsoft Security Essentials is no exception.

Apparently, Microsoft Security Essentials 2.1 fails to play nice with antivirus products and with some solutions designed to let users manage their computers.

In such cases, users will get an error message when launching MSE, according to the software giant.

Specifically, when they see Microsoft Security Essentially display the following: ?You haven't run a scan on your computer for a while. This could put your computer at risk,? they should know that something is wrong.

?This error appears as the result of third party anti-virus and/or system cleaner products conflicting with Microsoft Security Essentials,? Microsoft said.Click to expand...

Go here:http://partsurfer.hp.com/search.aspxScroll down a bit.Look for the similar label on the outside of your computer.Quote the Product number (P/N) ............I can't think of any way that what you're saying you did could have caused Windows 7 to switch versions from Home Premium to Basic. They use different Product Keys. The Product Key info is essentially encrypted in the Registry, although it can be determined if you use third party software that is desgined to do that. E.g. Search the web for : Keyfinder, by Jellybean...., download it , run it. Is it possible someone else who has had physical access to the laptop could have changed the Product Key ?The version of Windows 7 the computer came with is printed on the official Microsoft label on the bottom of the computer. The Product Key on that label is one of two possible Product Keys you can use for the version of Windows on the computer. (Brand name computers usually are using a different Product Key for the initial "factory" Windows installation than the one on that label.)

I keep installing and uninstalling this software. It slows my web browsing, makes firefox almost unusable.

My setup is a i5 6 GB laptop.

I bought 3 licenses for kis total 2016 during this march. It seems like all will go to waste lol.

My mom's computer has got this virus that is really tricky, and I can't figure out how to get rid of. It pops up when windows loads and scans the system saying it's finding all these viruses and spyware, and asked if you want to clean it or continue infected. I slows the whole system down, and clears all the desktop icons off. It also blocks all websites that have anything to do with viruses, and other websites like microsoft and stuff. Says internet connection not working when going to those sites, and popups will come up. Also, it prevents task manager from being run, and for that matter, ANY .exe executable file. ANY. So I can't run any program to run spyware or antivirus programs. I can't even get in command prompt, run task manager, or goto system restore. Nothing. I tried running a bunch of programs off a flashdrive too, and same issue. I've read al these things about using malware bytes & combofix, but yet again, they are executable files, and when I try to run them I see a popup from the security alert icon in the bottom right corner that says that file is infected and "trying to send credit card info to ...." and to register the program again.... The computer doesn't start in safemode either, it will restart and ask to start it in normal or last known good config...

Any ideas?

I have windows 7 home premuim 64 bit
I went to create restore point on my new dell and after about an 1/2 hour of waiting for SR to open up I got this:

You have no Restore Points. Use System Protection to create restore point.
When I attempt to turn on System Protection, it doesn't show any drives available when it opens -- it just says that it's searching for available drives and it keeps searching and doesn't stop. Eventually, I'll receive the following Error Message:

"There was an unexpected error in the property page: System Restore encounter an error. Please try to run System Restore again (0x81000203)." also all button are greyed out. I wanted take an image to show you but that's not working either. Is there hope?

Hello eliteboy,
I have had a look for the zeqpju.sys file and cant find any info on it anywhere. Are you sure that is how it is spelt ?.

There are a couple of things to try.
First open a command prompt as administrator and type sfc/scannow press enter and let it scan, if errors are found you will have to scan again until clean.

If that does not work, try a startup repair with the Vista disk.
Follow this link to a tutorial.

If you don't have a disk, go here.

Answer:help with Vista Home Basic oem system failure corrupt system file.

In most cases if you can't locate any information on a file (especially dll's or exe's) that's because it's a virus. The error is most likely there because your antivirus software removed the file, but didn't remove the startup entry.

I would suggest either posting over in the Security forums ( System Security - Vista Forums ) or contemplating a backup, wipe and reinstall of Vista.

I've had the System Integrity Scan Wizard, PC-Antispyware, and Security System Protection Control Panel popups and my backround change to a blue colour. After reading some of the posts here and running Spybot Search and Destroy, Ad-Aware 2007, RegCure and Malwarebytes Anti-Malware it seems as if that problem was solved, but now everytime I put my pc on I get these messages:The first one says "rundll32.exe - Bad Image : The application or DLL C:\WINDOWS\system32\qpfrsnow.dll is not a valid Windows image. Please check this against your installation diskette" and the second one says "RUNDLL -Error loading C:\WINDOWS\system32\qpfrsnow.dll%1 is not a valid Win32 application".The disk that I got when I bought my pc was Windows XP Home Edition SP1. I downloaded SP2 from the internet.I'm attaching all of the logs you need to assist me, because I don't know if and how badly my pc is still infected.I attached 4 log files: 1. DSS Main.txt 2. I've had the System Integrity Scan Wizard, PC-Antispyware, and Security System Protection Control Panel popups. They've been very stubborn but after reading some of the posts here and running Spybot, Adaware, SmitfraudFix, Panda Activescan, Housecall, Stinger Avert, Windows Defender, and SDFix, I am now getting only one popup, which shows up as a blank white rectangle in the center of the screen (and now I can't click "Close" to get it off the screen, since the "Close" option is missing). From the size & shape, I believe it's the Security System Protection Control Panel. Would you please review my HijackThis log? Also, in some of the posts I've noticed recommendations to update Java. Is that needed in my case? Answer:System Integrity Scan Wizard, Security System Protection Control Panel

The blank popup appeared to be repopulated with information over time...apparently the spyware refreshed itself. I also learned from Task Manager that all of my popups were from the System Integrity Scan Wizard. After some more searching, I found the name (in my case, yzqrqzkp.exe) and told Norton Firewall to block it from accessing the internet. I used HijackThis to fix it and then deleted it and a namesake (YZQRQZKP.EXE-1253B76A.pf) from Windows\Prefetch (not sure that was necessary but deleted it anyway). My only concern is that from what I read, there should have been another copy in \Local Settings\Application Data, which I didn't find. I updated Java per instructions in another post, also turned System Restore off and on. I think the PC is now clean, but would you review my latest HijackThis log to be sure?
