Control Panel

Question: Control Panel

Since the Windows 10 Creator's update, going to Control Panel only brings me to the Local Disk.

Relevance 100%
Preferred Solution: Control Panel

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Control Panel

Odd, even when you search for Control Panel and it appears as the Best Match? What happens if you right click on This PC and select Properties in File Explorer? That should open System and Security\System in Control Panel.

I have a Nvidia NVS 5200 M running with Intel 4000 and Windows 7 on a Lenovo T430S.Whenever I load the Control Panel -> Display settings, I can see options just fine, but I click on any of the drop down menus and they appear for a second, then immediately disappear (fast enough that I can't change settings). There's a similar problem when I look in the Intel Graphics Media Control Panel. It constantly appears to be "loading" - the mouse icon turns into a little blue circle off an on, continuously. Similar thing with the settings, too - they appear and let me change them, but immediately return to the original setting. I can change them if I act SUPER quickly to make the change then click Apply. But 99/100 I'm not fast enough. All drivers are up to date. I have no idea what to do (reinstall or uninstall this Intel Graphics control panel? How? Or somehow change a setting on my graphics card). Please help!

Answer:Windows 7 Control Panel Display and Intel Graphics Media Control Panel Constantly

Try uninstalling both drivers, then reinstalling them. Sometimes a clean driver update works better.

Good evening,

I've noticed a difference in Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Personalization between editions of Windows 10.

My wife's laptop is running Windows 10 Home, and her personalization screen looks like this:

I'm running Windows 10 Enterprise, and my personalization screen looks like this:

Notice that the menu options on the left, and quick access to change the theme settings on the bottom are missing from the enterprise screenshot.

Does anyone have any thoughts on this? Is it simply a difference between editions? Or is there a setting that is not turned on in my installation?

Thanks in advance!

I am looking for a way to customize driver installations so that only the dirvers are installed and not the customized application that comes with many of them.

Like I would like to install NVIDIA video card driver only without the NVIDIA service and control panel. I also want to do so for ATI video cards where only the driver is installed and not the Catalyst Control Center. I do not even want the ATI service installed which still installs anyway even if you select to not install the CCC during installation. Also I want to be able to install Realtek AC97 and HD audio drivers without the Realtek sound.aduio manager software installing with it.

Basically, I want to install the sound and video card drivers just so the drivers only are installed and Windows Device Manager recognizes the device for what it is and nothing else at all is installed kind of like when Windows has its own driver built in for video card and sound cards that are older then the current version of Windows.

I am looking to do this for both Windows XP/2003 64-bit and Windows Vista/7 64-bit.

I have looked everywhere online for information about how to modify the inf files to do it, but have not found anything able to help me.

Does anyone have any suggestions or links to download drivers only that won;t install the associated application/services with it for ATI/NVIDIA video cards and Realtek sound controllers?

Answer:Install video card and sound drivers only without control panel/control center.

With ATI, if you visit their site, you can download just the driver. Go to their download section, input graphics, OS and series, then view results. Scroll down page until you find 'Display Driver Only'.

For Nvidia, you can do the same thing. First download a program called 7-Zip, which is an Archiving program. Then download whatever Nvidia driver you want. Right click the driver package and go to 7-Zip -> Extract to (name of driver). It will create a folder with the same driver name in the directory. Then simply open the folder, Delete the PhysX_(version).msi file, the NVCPLSETUPINT file (control panel), the 3D Vision setup file, and the HD audio setup file. Then run the setup file within that to install the driver, or point the Device Manager driver update to the folder.

For some stuff, your simply not going to get rid of services. I have Nvidia display driver service running (NVSVC). You can't disable that and still have the driver to work. Not installing the control panel might keeps some of the helper services from running though (not sure).

I'm running windows XP on an old Dell Inspiron 1501 and I'm trying to get my microphone to play directly through my speakers so I can record them both simultaneously. The only answer I've been finding is to tick the 'microphone' checkbox in the volume control playback properties panel, but I don't have a microphone checkbox. There should be a 'microphone' box under SW Synth and CD player but I don't get one apparently.I've downloaded the latest SigmaTel Audio drivers from Dell and despite not having a problem with them before this, I'm inclined to believe that they're the problem. Any ideas?

Answer:No microphone control in playback Volume Control panel

Okay well of course I find an answer right after posting the topic:
http://en.community.dell.com/support-forums/laptop/f/3517/t/19295458.aspx
http://en.community.dell.com/support-forums/laptop/f/3517/p/18112824/18235810.aspx#18235810

Those two pages detail how to get an Input Monitor checkbox which functions just like the microphone one I wanted (although you can only mute it, not alter the volume). I used Instructional Set 3 from the second page, having to add the 'RecMonitorMute' entry as detailed in the first page and I can now hear my microphone input directly through my speakers.

HOWEVER, I'm still unable to record both the microphone and speaker sound at the same time. I thought recording the 'Stereo Mix' channel with the microphone coming through the speakers would work but it isn't and I don't know why. Any ideas?

Hello!
I got myself an Audio-Technica AT2020USB+ condenser microphone a few weeks ago, and I haven't really found out how I can change the gain, which I hear is important to do.
There is only one slider where the gain slider also should have been. The mic doesn't have a gain know like some other microphones have.

As you can see there is one slider. It only changes volume as far as I know.

How can I change the gain, is it needed, or can I maybe control gain using the volume slider?
If I can't change it directly through the mic or through the control panel, how can I change it? D:

Thanks in advance!

Answer:Can't control gain! No slider in control panel!

I have a recording studio (Sonar X3) and use several AT mics but they are not USB mics (such as the AT2035 and AT2050).

"Volume level" is the same as "gain". You can adjust the "Volume Level" or you can adjust the "gain" - both are the same thing. On mixers, amplifiers, etc, some will call the volume control "level" and others "gain".

A USB mic should have its own listing in the Sound/Recording Panel. Whatever slider that is has, such as what you show, should adjust the volume level. Many recording programs also have volume level adjustments.

Hi there.I am all setup to record VHS tape using a new Hauppage WinTV PCI Card and I am grabbing the Vhs tape fine but there was no audio being recorded. The manual told me to go into Volume Control and set the RECORDING option for LINE-IN to active and I do this and then the card works and grabs the video and sound no problem. The only problem is that this setting doesnt stay like this and when I close down the WinTV software it reverts back to being unchecked so before I start a new project I have to go back into volume control and set it again, very annoying, is there a way to set this option so it stays? I am sure I am missing someone obvious, I am not a newbee to pc's either, this one just baffles me though.

The network I maintain at a school has policy restrictions which do not allow users access to the printer controls. However I would like them to have the ability to control their own print jobs and unpause printers etc. But when editing the policy I find that they get access to control panel at the same time and can do lots of possible damage.

Can I do this any way while minimising possible damage? We are running an NT4 network with some 95 and some NT workstations.

many thanks

A little history:
I had a Trojan worm not too long ago and was able to get most of it I think. I installed a few malware detectors from downloads.com and they seemed to help (it took a while but it worked). Now I can't change my date or time, access my calendar or find Control Panel so far. HELP!

I'm helping my husband with this issue, so I might not have all of the details, however, I'll do my best to describe the problem.
1. It started with a pop-up for Spyware.
2. No Control Panel
3. Disabled Norton
4. Installed Spy Sweeper
5. The pop-up stopped, but Still No Control Panel

I know that this problem has previously been solved for other users, but it appears to require a tech person to check various logs unique to the particular computer to insure that the pc is free of all viruses.

Can you help me?

How did you get to the Control Panel, clicking the Settings item on the Start menu or right-clicking the Start button and choosing Control Panel? Changing the power settings shouldn't affect getting to the Control Panel.

Hi, I'm new here. I have a problem with my computer. I have a HP Pavillion 750c desktop computer. I have no control panel. Everytime I try to access control panels it says "this operation has been cancelled due to restrictions in effect on this computer. Please contact you system administrator." I followed what one of the other member did, downloading and installing superantispyware. It scan my computer and deleted a bunch of trojans, malware, etc. and made repairs, but still no control panel. Now when I restart my computer is says "LoadLibrary (C:\DocumentsandSettings\AllUsers\ApplicationData\vgdkhadm.dll) failed. The specified module could not be found.

PLEASE HELP, I've tried everything I can think of. If anyone can help me I'd really appreciate it.

Answer:DVD RW is gone from Control Panel (and everywhere else)

Is there an ejector button to remove that unit ? ?If so remove it and look inside with a flashlight to see if any foreign objects ur dust buildup is in there.Remember to do this with the power and battery both removed.Replace the drive in it's housing and see if this chelps. If not the drive is probably dead. Sometimes the optics go but the mechanics still work.To verify it has failed find a similar laptop and try it in there.

Question: XP Control Panel??

Hi gang! I am having a problem with my control panel. When I open "CP" and wait for the list of programs to be populated I wait, and wait and wait. It is not listing my programs so that I can uninstall a program that is causing me some problems. This started with my programs running slow. Opening a program and going from one thing to the next takes forever. I'm not computer illterate but this one has me stumped. I notice that htere is a guy named Larry Gardener I believe that was addressing this very problem for another guy named Erik. I didn't quite get everything he was trying to say about what to do about the problem so if anyone can help please email me at my address. I have a hard time getting around some of these forums. Thanks everyone. Deb

Answer:XP Control Panel??

You can attempt to run the applet right from the run box.

control.exe appwiz.cpl

If that doesn't work, get to Safe Mode. Restart, tap F8 until you see the Windows startup options. Choose Safe Mode, hit enter. After the system starts, get to control panel and run your add/remove.

Question: Control Panel Help

Ok well I have let this problem sly for a bit after removing some malware awhile back ago. Everything seemed fine but the Control Panel. It is disabled for the most part and can't use any of the tools inside it. It tells me "This operation has been canceled due to restrictions in effect on this computer. Please contact your system administrator." This is the only problem that I still have an issue with after the removal of the malware, so I believe a certain something was not removed. Any support? Thanks.

Question: Control panel

Unable to open the program "Add/Remove programs" from Control Panel. Am trying to remove unused programs and fee uo hard disk space.

Answer:Control panel

What happens?

Occasionally, a poorly designed installer makes an incorrect entry in Add/Remove and prevents it from working properly. It could also be malware. Sometimes those entries appear as blank space if it does open.

Most programs don't use much disk space. Exceptions include anything that requires a lot of data, such as language lessons, maps, and that sort of thing. Chances are that the most space is used elsewhere.

Hopefully, you have it all backed up for when the drive fails.

These can help track down used space:

These will allow you to visualize your disk space usage:

Disk Space Fan
Visual Disk
Disk Pie
TreeSize
Xinorbis
AssessTree
Directory Size Calculator

Alternatives to Add/Remove:

Comodo Program Manager (removes programs and all remnants. Future installations are monitored so they can be completely removed, restored if uninstalled by mistake, or even restored to a new machine)
MyUninstaller
Ashampoo Magical Uninstaller (Records changes made to system during new installations)
Revo Uninstaller

Question: no control panel

i have had multiple problems with spyware and malware, and i feel like i have finally got rid of the majority of them. There is still one major problem and that is, i cant open the control panel and access my computers properties. when i ran spybot, one of the problems that appeared was;

HKEY_USERS\S-1-5-21-36167722-1870316175-1833586310-1005\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer\NoControlPanel!=W=0

would it be alright to simply delete that file?

i've gone through the registry and changed the binary value to 0 and i've been able to access the control panel after restarting. however, after awhile it just changes back to 1.

also, almost everytime i turn on my computer i get a warning that says "C:\WINDOWS\shell.exe" cannot be found.

Hi, bballpaulwall.

Welcome to TSG.

Your Java is out of date. Older versions have vulnerabilities that malware can use to infect your system. Please follow these steps to remove older version of Java components and upgrade the application. Beware it is NOT supported for use in 9x or ME and probably will not install in those systems

Upgrading Java:

Download the latest version of Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 6 Update 3.
Scroll down to where it says "The J2SE Runtime Environment (JRE) allows end-users to run Java applications".
Click the "Download" button to the right.
Check the box that says: "Accept License Agreement".
The page will refresh.
Click on the link to download Windows Offline Installation with or without Multi-language and save to your desktop.
Close any programs you may have running - especially your web browser.
Go to Start > Control Panel, double-click on Add/Remove programs and remove all older versions of Java.
Check any item with Java Runtime Environment (JRE or J2SE) in the name.
Click the Remove or Change/Remove button.
Repeat as many times as necessary to remove each Java version.
Reboot your computer once all Java components are removed.
Then from your desktop double-click on the download to install the newest version.
Please download VundoFix.exe to your desktop.

Note: In the event you already have Vundofix, this is a new version that I need you to download.
Double-click VundoFix.exe to run it.

Answer:Help can't use the control panel

Hi and welcome

Download ComboFix from Here or Here to your Desktop.

**Note: In the event you already have Combofix, this is a new version that I need you to download. It is important that it is saved directly to your desktop**
--------------------------------------------------------------------
1. Close any open browsers.

2. Close/disable all anti virus and anti malware programs so they do not interfere with the running of ComboFix.
Very Important! Temporarily disable your anti-virus, script blocking and any anti-malware real-time protection before performing a scan. They can interfere with ComboFix or remove some of its embedded files which may cause "unpredictable results".
Click on this link to see a list of programs that should be disabled. The list is not all inclusive. If yours is not listed and you don't know how to disable it, please ask.
...
--------------------------------------------------------------------

Double click on combofix.exe & follow the prompts.

When finished, it will produce a report for you.
Please post the "C:\ComboFix.txt" along with a new HijackThis log for further review.

**Note: Do not mouseclick combofix's window while it's running. That may cause it to stall**

Question: Control Panel

Hello,
I am running XP on a Dell laptop. Just recently, when I try to open Control Panel, it starts to open, then all of the icons and toolbars on the desktop disapear sor a second, then everything reapears and the Control Panel has not opened. If I reboot, I can get to the Control Panel for one or two tries, the the same as above all over again. This seemed to all start when I was trying to set up a parallel-to-USB printer cable, but that could be coincidental.
I think the laptop has Service Pack 2, but I do not have it in front of me to confirm. Can anyone send me in a direction to start investigating the problem?

Thank you for your help and thanks to all the folks that make this such a great board. I have been "lurking" for a while and have been very impressed with the level of help available.

what do you mean all included? "one-size-fits-all?" If there is an updated driver that says it's for the 7500 all in wonder then I would try deleting the device in the device manager and restart, and install that.

You've probably tried that I know...but I'm just putting it out there depending on what you mean with your last comment.

Question: Control Panel MIA?

Trying to bring back my daughters laptop without doing a complete restage as her boyfriend is certainly causing her (and now I!) some grief.

I've added her to my Zone Alarm Security Suite (get 3 PC's ) and ran both spyware/virus which cleaned up a lot. Had to run SmitFraudFix which I found on a helpful forum and it ran to completion to bring back the control panel in safe mode. Still can't get the control panel back in regular mode though. Also still have other unexpected restrictions. Does this hijack log give any indication of why or whether there are any other problems?

Once I get this all cleaned up (if possible) I'll bring her current with Windows updates and SP's.

Thank you for your review!

Question: no control panel

I experienced a problem sometime ago where I kept getting a pop up message informing me that I had a virus and saying click here. This would take me to a page that was linked to the virus. I'm led to believe that the virus was actually generating the message.

I followed a couple of tech guy threads. Eventually the repetitive message disappeared however I do appear to have lost some functionality.

1. My control panel is not available at the start menu.

2. If i double click my clock and calendar I get the following message in a pop up box;

This operation has been cancelled due to retsrcitions in effect on this computer. Please contact your system administrator.

3. When i click certain links on the web i get the following pop up message

Spybot-S&Ds IE helper has detected an URL that is known as a malicious resource.

URL: http://ad.doubleclick.net/adi/P4542.EBYR2 plus some not visisble in box
Identified as: /DoubleClick

The box has 2 options - allow or deny. the allow option is always greyed out and cannot be accessed. When i choose deny the page often continues to open but not always. This happens nearly all the time on ebay but can even occur on the bbc.

Has anyone got some useful advice,

Thanks

I don't think you mean Control Panel? If you mean the Task Bar, which normally sits at the bottom of the screen, click on a blank section in the middle of it, and drag it back down to the bottom. Then right-click on a blank section and tick (click on) Lock the Taskbar - and you won't accidentally do it again.

Question: ATI Control Panel

http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/837/atictrl.png/

Ok so I did a system restore on my computer a couple of days ago. I'm currently in the process of trying to get all necessary drivers to get my computer up and running again. After doing some research I've found out that apparently the ATI driver is for an AMD graphics card. I purchased this computer and it came with an AMD graphics card but since then I installed an NVidia graphics card and have updated it to the max. So what's up with this error message? Is there something I'm missing?

Answer:ATI Control Panel

If you do not have an ATI/AMD graphics cards then you need to go to the "Control Panel" then to either "Add & Remove Programs" or "Programs & Features" depending on which version of Windows you have installed and then uninstall the ATI display drivers & control panel.

If you do a system recovery then the recovery puts the computer back to the original state which had an ATI graphics card, it simply doesn't know or care that you have switched out parts since then.

I had been searching for anything to enable my music in the pc to be heard in a music chatroom in Paltalk.com ..program, which I haven't been able to do. After leaving this PCMightyMax site, I found that my control panel had been extracted or was missing. Now I can't access it no matter what I do. I wanted to get rid of my cookies and temp. files and I'm not sure how to get to it , if I can. With my limited knowlege of the workings of this pc I messed things up. It's been to a repair shop and they did solve a few things and cleaned up problems but still can't get my music played into the paltalk music room or find my control panel, for starters. Hope I've made things clear

I keep reading this messages in the forum about the control panel that disappears. Why is that? I was attacked by a troyan and some malware but it's ok now...I think. My AVG Antivirus deleted the malware, Super antispyware removed the tracking cookies and I have Eusing registry cleanup which has tune up my laptop and is running smoothly. However...my Control Panel is still gone
I was told to go with regedit and change some settings there...it looks easy but...after I read the posts here I think about going the safe way. What would you recommend? My laptop runs fine now and is well protected (Comodo firewall is doing a great job) But I need my Control Panel!!! Any suggestions?

Answer:Why is my control panel gone?

Download HJTInstall.exe to your Desktop.

http://www.trendsecure.com/portal/en-US/threat_analytics/HJTInstall.exe

* Doubleclick HJTInstall.exe to install it.
* By default it will install to C:\Program Files\Trend Micro\HijackThis .
* Click on Install.
* It will create a HijackThis icon on the desktop.
* Once installed, it will launch Hijackthis.
* Click on the Do a system scan and save a logfile button. It will scan and the log should open in notepad.
* Copy/Paste the log to your next reply please.

Don't use the Analyse This button, its findings are dangerous if misinterpreted.
Don't have Hijackthis fix anything yet. Most of what it finds will be harmless or even required.

Question: Control Panel

I have an HP Pavilion about I year old. OP is Windows 7 home Premium. I clicked on the "Control Panel" then on "Change backgrounds" I wanted to put on a slide show with some of my photos. Listed in the "Picture Location box" were these:
Windows Desktop Backgrounds.
Picture Library.
Top Rated Photos.
Solid Colors.
Door County' 2013 #6525-6611.
New Folder (2).
Pendelton Reunion.
San Diego Reunion.
I clicked on "Picture Library" which is a collection of my Marine Corps reunions photos for the last 20 years. I selected about of 15, everything was looking great. When I went back to the desktop window all the photos were changing just like I wanted, but suddenly the screen went black, from the top left side this text started to move down from left to right, "There are no pictures in C:/users/Ralph/pictures/door county' 2013 #6526-6611" this just keeps going down when it hits bottom it the starts up. It does not stop till I move the mouse?? I checked several times there are no check marks on any photos in the "Door County Box" in the "Picture Location Box". There are photos in the C:/ location. Is there a fix for this??

Question: Control panel bug

I've got a control panel bug of some sort. It took away my access to this. I've run the recommended diagnostics and am attaching the files. Please let me know what else I should do.

Thanks so much,
Kate

PS - I did find a manual way to turn control panel back on but I'm worried there might be more bugs running amok.

Answer:Control panel bug

Your logs are clean. But tell me if you installed this:
CYBERsitter 10

Any other issues you are having may best be addressed in the software forum.

If you are not having any other malware problems, it is time to do our final steps:
We recommed you keep SUPERAntiSpyware and Malwarebytes Anti-Malware for scanning/removal of malware. Unless you purchase them, they provide no real time protection. They are useful as backup scanners. They do not use any significant amount of resources ( except a little disk space ) until you run a scan.
If we had you use ComboFix, uninstall ComboFix (This uninstall will only work as written if you installed ComboFix on your Desktop like we requested.)

Click START then RUN and enter the below into the run box and then click OK. Note the quotes are required
"%userprofile%\Desktop\combofix" /u

Notes: The space between the combofix" and the /u, it must be there.
This will uninstall ComboFix and also reset hidden files and folders settings back to Windows defaults.

Delete the C:\combofix folder from combofix (if it exists)

Any other miscellaneous tools we may have had you install or download can be uninstalled and deleted.
If running Vista, it is time to make sure you have reenabled UAC by double clicking on the C:\MGtools\enableUAC.reg file and allowing it to be added to the registry.
Go to add/remove programs and uninstall HijackThis.
You can delete the C:\MGtools folder and the C:\MGtools.exe file. You can also delete the ... Read more

Answer:I Cant Get Into My Control Panel :'(

Please print out and follow the generic instructions for using "SmitfraudFix".(If you have downloaded SmitfraudFix previously, please delete that version and download it again as the tool is frequently updated!)-- If the tool fails to launch from the Desktop, please move smitfraudFix.exe to the root of the system drive (usually C:\), and run it from there. Please download MsnCleaner.zip and save to you Desktop. In addition to removing infected files, it will remove certain restrictions on your system often disabled by malware.Extract (unzip) the file to your desktop. (click here if your not sure how to do this) but DO NOT use it yet.Reboot your computer in "Safe Mode" using the F8. To do this restart your computer and after hearing your computer beep once during startup (but before the Windows icon appears) press the F8 key repeatedly. A boot menu will appear with several options. Use the arrow keys to navigate and select the option to run Windows in "Safe Mode".Double-click MsnCleaner.exe to run the tool.Click the "Analyze" button.A report will be created after the scan and will be saved to C:\MsnCleaner.txt.If it finds an infection, click the "Deleted" button.Reboot normally and post the contents of MsnCleaner.txt in your next reply.

Like a few guys before me I have picked some malware (these scumbags suck our precious air) that denies access to the Control Panel and I get the message "This operation has been canceled due to restrictions.............Please refer to System Administrator" I am Sys. Admin. (stand alone pc). I have reset the settings for NoControlPanel in my registry and tried to open control.exe, which gave me same message. (These suggestions I found on an earlier thread). Tried everything (except putting an axe through the box), still get this same error message and I'm still locked out. Can anyone help? Thanks in advance.

Hello and welcome to TSF

Let's try to get a GMER log. You must have extracted gmer.exe to your desktop for this to work.

Open Notepad and copy/paste the text in the quotebox below into Notepad:

Quote:

@echo off
copy /y gmer.exe omer.exe
start omer

Save this as run.bat Choose to "Save type as - All Files" next to gmer.exe
It should look like this:
Double-click run.bat & allow it to run.

Then, use these settings to produce a log.
If asked to allow gmer.sys driver to load, please consent .
If it gives you a warning about rootkit activity and asks if you want to run scan...click NO.

Click the image to enlarge it

In the right panel, you will see several boxes that have been checked. Uncheck the following ... Sections
IAT/EAT
Drives/Partition other than Systemdrive (typically C:\)
Show All (don't miss this one)

Then click the Scan button & wait for it to finish.
Once done click on the [Save..] button, and in the File name area, type in "gmer.txt" or it will save as a .log file which cannot be uploaded to your post.
Save it where you can easily find it, such as your desktop, and attach it to your next reply.
**Caution**
Rootkit scans often produce false positives. Do NOT take any action on any "<--- ROOKIT" entries

Please note that the forum is very busy and if I don't hear from you within three days this thread will be closed.

Earlier there used to be a B&O sound manager to provide graphic equaliser and other functions. but after a windows update its gone. i can't change audio settings.

Answer:B&O control Panel is gone

Hi, Try the following. Download the Realtek HD Audio installer on the link below and save it to your Downloads folder. http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp73001-73500/sp73189.exe When done, hold down the Windows key and press R Into the Run window, type devmgmt.msc and hit enter. In Device Manager, expand Sound, Video and Game Controllers.  Right click the Realtek device and select Uninstall - you should also get a prompt to remove the current driver, tick the box to allow this and then proceed with the uninstall. When complete, download and reinstall the Chipset driver on the following link. http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp72501-73000/sp72862.exe When the Chipset reinstallation has completed, shutdown the notebook. Unplug the AC Adapter and then remove the battery.  Hold down the Power button for 30 seconds.  Re-insert the battery and plug in the AC Adapter. When windows has reloaded, open your Downloads folder, right click on the Realtek installer and select 'Run as Administrator' to start the installation.  When this has completed, restart the notebook and let windows fully load for a few minutes before checking. Regards, DP-K
