Preferred Solution: malwarebytes tray app. is not responding, how can i get it?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

After installing the update I'm getting the Tray Application running in the Apps section of Task Manager

It's running on my PC and Gayle's Laptop now. Previously it never was there on either machine.

Is this something new? Settings in MBAM are the same unchanged from previous versions.

Same here. It's not a issue, really. MBAM just moved it from a background process to a Win32 App. I have a bunch of them.

Can members advise if when running MWB latest version they get a MWB icon in the Taskbar AND the System Tray on bootup. It did not do this in previous versions and the taskbar icon is totally superfluous as there is nothing in its menu that is not already in the System Tray menu. I always ran MWB as a background process so it never appearerd in the Taskbar but can't get rid of it automatically on boot as there seems to be no way to do it. MWB support don't appear to have any ideas either as I have been consulting them for 4 days now.

Answer:Malwarebytes shows con in Taskbar and System Tray

Basically I think it is a bit of disk hog.when it runs or updates it always shows the hard drive running at 100% in Task manager,
I disabled it in services and start up and just run it manually when I want and not when it wants.
Click on the little triangle on the Taskbar and click on customise.Make sure hide icon and notifications is showing on the dropdown box. That should stop it showing on the Taskbar.
Click on show hidden icons and if MWB shows right click it and remove it. Just did it with mine. Unfortunately I have to do that after every time that i run it which is not that often. I also have MWB not to run at start up.
I have another Anti-Malware program on my computer which is better than MWB so only use MWB if If I think it is needed.

yesterday Windows security updates started popping all over, I went to bleeping computer and followed the instructions of rk-proxy + rkill and then malwarebytes.

Things calmed down, but when I restarted the computer the small icon of the security center popped out again. Then I looked again on bleeping computer and followed the instructions of DDS+Defogger+GMER

DDS worked, Defogger worked, and GMER went on, until my computer when on blue screen. Saying that windows had stopped a process in order to save the computer. I unfortunately did not take note of what it was because I panicked.

THe computer is able to start, because I am very scared, I found in the internet a message board that cautiously recommneded going to run/services.msc and unchecking the security center process, which actually made the damn icon disappear.

Computer is slow, and I know if I restart this thing will show up again. I am a freelance architect, my work depends on my computer, and I don't have much money. Any help is deeply appreciated.

Again: DDS worked, defogger disabled the CD emulation, but GMER just drove the pc twice to blue screen, so I am scared to try again.

Thank you friends.

When i'm downloading through iTunes, on my xp sp2 laptop, after about 15 minutes, the connection tray stops responding and hence the internet connection dies. The icon still shows as connected but downloading stops and i can't view any pages. The only way to get it going again is to restart and then a dialog box comes up and says the connection tray has stopped responding and I have to end task. It has done this repetedly only the last number of days. What is wrong?

Hello, when I shut down or restart PC I have a message saying "connection tray not responding" I end task but My PC always hangs on "saving your settings" and I always have to turn power off.
I have run spyware, scandisc and trojan hunter. also I have looked for connection tray in task manager but it is not there It only happens when I have had PC on for a long time. I have windows XP and I am on Broadband.
I would be so grateful if anyone can help me, I am a newbie and havent a clue what to do next. thanks

Answer:Connections Tray not responding

You could start with running the system file checker to see if system files are broken.

Click on Start . . Run . . type cmd . . type sfc /scannow

it will probably ask for the XP installation cd and take 30 mins or so to complete.

I recently had issues with Firefox -- it was hanging and crashing. Therefore, I uninstalled it. There seems to be a virus on my computer, because I try to run Malwarebytes and it hangs after 1-3 seconds of scanning and says "Not Responding" and then crashes. I am also unable to run Malwarebytes in safemode?

Does anyone know how I can remove the virus that is causing this???

Thank you!

Answer:Malwarebytes "Not Responding"

Rename mbam to something and run it

Did you try safemode?

Answer:Malwarebytes not responding during scan

Hello delta6 I will be helping with your computer problems. From this point on, it is very important that you refrain from doing anything else to your computer other than what I have requested of you.I do not mind if you browse the web, do basic tasks, or even test to see if the problem(s) you are experiencing are still occurring with the computer while we are working together, but do not run any tools/fixes unless I or another helper from this thread has asked you to do so.Remember that you came here for help, so allow us to help you If something does not run, make a detailed note of what problems you encountered along the way (exact error messages are preferred), but continue onto the next steps until you reach the end of my post.Always do the steps in the order they are listed in (left to right, top to bottom).I prefer that you complete all the steps while you are in Normal Mode. However, I understand that sometimes this is not possible. If you are unsuccessful in getting a tool/fix to run from Normal Mode, but Safe Mode works, then use Safe Mode.If you have a question about something, do not hesitate to ask.Let's begin:Please download and install CCleaner SlimOpen CCleaner and click the Options buttonNow choose AdvancedUncheck everything here except for Skip User Account Control warningNow click the Cleaner button and press the Run Cleaner button at the bottom right of the program. If this is your first time running this program, a prompt may appear asking for confirmat... i'm posting this for a friend,

the computer is a dell xps 600 with intel pentium D, 2gb ram, and geforce 6800 graphics on a XP SP3. when running malwarebytes on the computer, about 2 mins into the scan, malwarebytes would just freeze and there will be a message saying malwarebytes stops responding and asking do i want to send a report. neither yes/no option will automatically close malwarebytes and you will have to go into the task manager and terminate the process.

I've tried running quick scan, full scan, safe mode, and safe mode with networking. They all return the same message. I've tried uninstall and download the latest version and that doesn't help. I also ran superantispyware and found nothing. Ran several online scanners such as panada, eset, and kaspersky also nothing. However, the antivirus on the computer, trendmicro, found 2 viruses a while back and deleted them. Did the scan again with trendmicro and there's nothing. I'm wondering if the problem has to do with those 2 viruses.

Please let me know if you need more info. Thank you.

Hello I've had this problem for a little under two weeks now.. not sure what I was doing at the time. Anyway the problem consists of simply from time to time with no real pattern my wireless internet will just stop working and I will be disconnected. Trying to right click the icon on the bottom right results in nothing and when I go to restart or turn off my computer I get either a 'Connection Trays is not responding' or 'Explorer.exe is not responding'. Sometimes this will happen within minutes of starting up my laptop and sometimes it won't for a good few hours.

I ran all of the programs in the windows XP cleaning procedure.. however when I tried to run combofix it crashed on me and I wasn't sure what to do so I skipped it.

My computer specs are as follows if they are important:
Lenovo T61p
Windows XP SP2
7200 RPM 100gig HD
Nvidia Quadro FX 570m
Wireless card is Intel Pro wireless 3945ABG network adapter

Come to think of it, I have been having issues ever since I got my laptop regarding the wireless connection.. I believe that in the past sometimes the internet would just cut out and I would have to restart. However back then a simple restart solved the problem.. but now it keeps occurring.

Thank you for your time!

Answer:Sudden internet loss - Connection Tray Not Responding

Welcome to Major Geeks!

It does not sound like your problems are related to malware. You could be having some kind of hardware issue and may want to post in the Hardware Forum. Yes there was some malware removed by the cleaning procedure and I have a little more minor steps for you to do, but I don't think anything that was removed was related to your problem.

I believe that I have a malware issue, or something infecting my laptop.
When I run malware bytes, it freezes and says it is "not responding". It will then not even close down. This also happens in safe mode.
I have done some online scans that have revealed no issues (emsisoft and bitdefender)
In addition, videos on youtube are now jittery and CPU usage jumps between 5 and then 70%.
The laptop is also much hotter than it used to be, though I suspect that may be due to dust etc
Any help is gratefully appreciated. Below is a highjackthis log. Many thanks in advance.

Answer:Malwarebytes Anti-Malware NOT Responding?

Hello, did you get an error message?-- Some types of malware will target Malwarebytes and other security tools to keep them from running properly. If that's the case, use Malwarebytes Chameleon and follow the onscreen instructions. I often use malwarebytes, but today I am unable to complete a quick scan, as the program stops responding. This also happened when I tried to run it in safe mode. When it happens I am unable to close malwarebytes, even by trying to shut it down in task manager, and I am forced to remove my laptop battery to shut down.
I am not experiencing problems with other scanners, such as spybot and Ccleaner
Do I have a deep rooted malware problem perhaps? Any help always greatly appreciated! Thanks.

Users of Malwarebytes Anti-Exploit Free may notice that not all settings are available. If you explore the Settings tab, you will see the following check-boxes are greyed out, and you cannot Opt-out anonymous log submissions.

Settings for Free version

I went ahead to the Help Files to find not-a-lot of information, except it appears that you can Opt-out in the Premium version.

Help files for Malwarebytes Anti-Exploit

During installation I enabled the trial, yet it shows the Free version only. Even after a clean uninstall/install. Having never used Anti-Exploit nor the Premium version, I am surprised that this is an issue.

Free version after enabled Trial from installer

The activate button shows blank spaces for paying customers, so there is no way to Activate a Trial from the program's UI.

License ID and Key required for Premium

If I try and continue without entering any details, it crashes the program.

Program Not Responding with blank activation details

Edit: Blank spaces do not enable trial either.

Licensing error

Any possible solutions for any of the above? Or have you experienced similar issues?

Answer:Malwarebytes Anti-Exploit Opt-out requires Premium, Not Responding, No Trial version?

Hi !

Whenever I connect to the internet via my own WiFi router at home, the connection will terminate after 3-7 minutes and the wireless network will turn off automatic.

If I place the cursor on the wireless icon in the lower right hand tray, the following happens:
I get no response. If I right click on the icon, nothing happens. If I go to Start, Connect to, and wireless connections, nothing happens. The only way I can restore a functioning connection is to shut down the machine. However, when I try to shut down the machine, a windows box opens indicating an attempt to end the connections tray. If I click end program, the box shuts and shut down proceeds.

I bought this laptop last week during my trip to China (So I can't return it for warrenty and I'm sure it's software related...)
It's a HP Pavilion DV2000 / Compaq V3500 with built in Intel Pro Wireless 3945ABG Network Connection.

I have Windows XP Service Pack 3 installed with the latest new updates.
I already have done a virus and spyware scan, totally clean.
I have already updated my drivers to the latest version with DriverMax.
I have already tried running WinSock to repair damaged sock files.

I have seen the problem mentioned in other forums, I already googled and tried all given solutions on google, without luck. I'm desperate for help, please help me

Thanks in advance, I really need help fixing my brand new laptop

Answer:Connections Tray "Not Responding" = No Internet and Slow PC

' I already googled and tried all given solutions on google'

So I guess you uninstalled the Intel Pro Wireless 3945ABG and removed the drivers from Add/Remove Programs (if they were there)?

Every once in awhile my computer out of nowhere starts running EXTREMELY slow. I have no choice but to shut down and restart (after which it runs fine). But when I try to shut down I get one of two messages:

1. Verizon Mcci Tray App Window not responding (and i'm given the option of "end now" which I do)

2. Verizon DDE Window not responding (same as above)

Can someone please tell me what these messages mean, how I can fix the problem, or what causes them. I watch alot of videos on YouTube (and some "nudey vids") and sometimes have several windows open simultaneously. I assume this has something to do with it, but short of not watching any videos I don't know how to avoid the problem.

PLEASE HELP!!!!!!! Its causing problems with my music sequencing program (non internet related).

Hello. This is not my first time posting on bleepingcomputer, but the last time I had a problem was so long ago I have forgotten the account details. However I was so impressed by the help I received, I thought I should come here again if I ever suspected anything might be amiss with my PC. Speaking of which:
I have recently had an unfortunate sequence of events  over the past two days, and I'm unsure if it's just a group of unrelated problems or if they're connected somehow.
I have also left various windows updates waiting to be installed for an embarrassingly long time, which helps lead me to suspect I might have left a backdoor open somehow.
The sequence of events are thus:
12th of july
Painfully slow broadband on the 12th of july, suspected to be issues with my ISP. They apparently were performing maintenance on the 11th, but had also finished.
Malwarebytes very slow to update due to aforementioned broadband woes
Internet issues appeared to fix themselves later in the night.
13th of july
Broadband drops to half of the speed of the night before, and fluctuates lower still throughout the day.
Malwarebytes suddenly unable to update, sending me an error message that I have currently forgotten. Something along the lines of "Program_error_updating (0,0,I/O error)" (Not the exact words, will update if I can find it exactly)
After a reboot, malwarebytes was now ignoring attempts at updating... Read more

Answer:How to restore missing tray icon? Windows 7 Tray Icons Changer

Hello bageraz and welcome to Seven Forums.

I'd uninstall the Tray Icon Changer using the forced uninstall option from Revo Uninstaller (they have a 30 day free trial.) Hopefully this will also remove unwanted bits and pieces from the registry.

Revo Uninstaller Pro - Uninstall Software, Remove Programs easily, Forced Uninstall

Then I'd try running a system file checker scan from an elevated command prompt (option two) to see if any system files were damaged or corrupted by the TIC. If any problems are noted run the scan 3 times rebooting in between each scan.

SFC /SCANNOW Command - System File Checker

Hi everyone, Over the years this forum has proven invaluable to me, and I try hard not to burden it with questions already asked or requests for information easily discovered elsewhere. However, although I've read similar questions here, and looked extensively elsewhere, I can't find the answer to my question. Apologies in advance if I've overlooked something. I have a W530 (shipped originally with a 7mm HDD, and changed years ago to a 830 SSD), and I've just installed a new 840 EVO 1TB SSD in the primary bay. In doing so I discovered that the 830 SSD previously installed was installed only with the rubber rails, and without any drive tray (long story). God only knows where that drive tray (terminology question: tray or caddy?) is, and presumably he's getting more urgent requests for information. I've looked in various places for a replacement from the manufacturer (Lenovo Parts Lookup, FRU/CRU listings, Specs) and from aftermarket suppliers (newmodeus) for a tray represented as compatible with the W530 primary drive bay. So, I have two questions: Is it safe to use ONLY the rubber rails to operate a 7mm 840 EVO SSD? Granted, the 830 SSD ran for years without noticeable issues with only the rubber rails, but that's a study with sample size n=1. Are there heat or other issues (stability in port) for which the tray is intended to provide a solution for a SSD? I noticed some slight swelling in the cover of the 830 SSD when I removed it, which is conc... Read more

Answer:W530 Drive Tray (Caddy?) for Primary Bay - Necessary, Prudent, or How to Purchase New Tray

The W530 doesn't use a tray like the older thinkpads did. I only use the rubber rails.  Make sure that you use the right rails, there are 2 sizes, one fot 9.5 mm and one ofr 7 mm drives. I have two W530's and the rails work fine in both, they hold the drive firmly and I've never had a drive lossen up.

Hi!This is my first post and I really appreciate bleeping computer team for providing such a wonderful service to people in need. I am using Windows 7 Ultimate. I have Symantec Norton Antivirus 2011, Avast Free Antivirus and Comodo Firewall installed. I update my system (windows, antivirus, firewall, acrobat etc) regularly. Off late my system has been running slowly. The two antivirus catch infections every now and then (pendrives, malicious links). I run regular scans (both Norton and Avast), all of which almost never detect any infection and assure that my system is clean.Yesterday I installed Malwarebytes Anti Malware just to be sure that my computer doesn't have any infection. It was constantly (every 2-3 seconds) blocking outgoing connections from BitComet to different IPs located in China. Believing that the problem is in BitComet, I started utorrent, and the result was same for it as well, MBAM blocked outbound connections, albeit at a lower frequency. Then it blocked an inbound connection from svchost.exe. I just quit both the torrent clients and the notifications stopped. I then quit MBAB.I started Malwarebytes scan and while it was still running, it showed two infections. During the scan itself a blue screen came and my windows crashed. Ignoring it, after a while I again started the scan and the same thing happened. Now I am not sure whether whether its because of scan or infection, but during the 2 years life of my laptop, it was 2nd and 3rd time when Blue ... Read more

SANTA CLARA, Calif. ? August 24, 2017 ? Malwarebytes?, the leader in advanced malware prevention and remediation solutions, today announced the release of Malwarebytes for Android, featuring targeted defense against mobile malware, ransomware, adware, infected applications and unauthorized surveillance. Combining multiple distinct protection layers, Malwarebytes for Android is a more effective and efficient replacement for antivirus on mobile devices.

According to data collected by Malwarebytes, incidences of Android malware increased more than five percent since the start of the year. Most notably, incidents of Android ransomware increased 138 percent in Q2 2017 (April to May) over Q1 (January to March) 2017, with Jisut, SLocker and Koler ransomware collectively accounting for nearly 95 percent of these detections. While Android ransomware is growing at this rapid pace, Trojans and potentially unwanted programs remain the biggest issues for Android users. I am havig some system tray icon problems after installing anti-virus and spyware software. Looking for a fix for the disappearing system tray icons at initial start-up. Quick fix--log off and on again--icons reappear where they should. I am told that this disappearing activity is due to a Windows XP "BUG". What a problem! Any ideas for a secure, lasting fix out there? After the spyware and antivirus software installation, the computer star-up time is now really SLOW too. The software launches seems to be in conflict with each other, or something. Have emachine--T3406, Windows XP Home 2002, Service Pack 2. 1.23 GB RAM.

I am a long-time user of Malwarebytes Anti-Malware.  Only today, I became acquainted with Malwarebytes Anti-Exploit which is a separate program from the standard, Malwarebytes Anti-Malware program.  I purchased Anti-Exploit and it is now happily at work, protecting my computer right along with its big brother, Malwarebytes Anti-Malware.
So - what's the difference between the two programs?  I know that Anti-Exploit is constantly running in the background and, presumably, will sound off if something bad is trying to happen.  At least I think that's basically how it works.
But how is that any different from Malwarebytes Anti-Malware?
What does one do that the other does not?

Answer:What's the Difference Between Malwarebytes and Malwarebytes Anti-Exploit?

Hi pdmike
To put it simply (since I'm on my phone), Malwarebytes Anti-Malware is an Antimalware program which aims at protecting your system against known malware threats: adware, spyware, rootkits, etc. So your traditional Antimalware. All the threats detected by Malwarebytes are known threats. Which means that they exist in Malwarebytes database and have been documented by it. Malwarebytes Anti-Exploit is a mitigation program if I can call it like that. Its meant to prevent your programs (the ones supported by its free and paid versions) from being exploited by what we call Zero Day Exploits. Zero Days are in the wild exploits that haven't been patched yet and that can be used to like the name states, exploit a vulnerability in a program. Malwarebytes Anti-Exploit will therefore monitor the programs it supports and blocks any Zero-Day attempts if it detects a behavior associated with a known Zero Day method. Usually, Zero Days are meant to exploit a system in order to protect it, since they can be used to drop malware on a system. Malwarebytes Anti-Explpot protects these exploits from happening, while Malwarebytes Anti-Malware is used to protect your system against the malware that can be dropped by these exploits.
My explanation wasn't the best there is since I'm typing on my phone, but I hope you didn't understand it. Otherwise, I can go in a more in depth explanation.
Edit: gonzo from Malwarebytes gives a little explanation on the difference between the two products her... Read more

Hope you can help! I'm running Windows 7 Ultimate SP1, 4GB, 64bit, Intel i5, NVIDIA, Kaspersky Internet Security 15.0.2.
I primarily use IE11, but switch to Mozilla Firefox 43.0.2 when IE stops responding. My primary email is AOL which I access via web, not software. Computer often slow and hangs.
The main issue is IE11 "stops responding" several times a day. I've run the latest version of Malwarebytes (subscription), Glary Utilities Pro, Kaspersky IS, CCleaner, and Disk Cleanup. I delete browing history daily. No virus or malware shows up after scans. Recently ran a full scan on Kaspersky overnight+ and still, no viruses detected. I'm not sure what the issue is and would gladly go back to IE9 or 10 if IE11 is the issue, but I need to be sure.
Whatever guidance you can offer would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Hey all,

I have two problems with two employees. They both are connecting by vpn with the ATT Global network client from their homes. These Both employees are using outlook 2000. They are both behind personal routers. They can both browse the Internet and intranet web pages with no problems.

One of the employees can connect with no problem but after ten minutes only her outlook stops responding.

The other, her exchange server will no respond. She is able to ping it successfully. Created several new profiles have no effect or even simply trying a check name.

Any help on these two problems?

Answer:Outlook problems: exchange server not responding and not responding after 10 minutes

1) Are they on company or personal machines? If personal could this be a personal firewall issue?

2) Are they connecting wirelessly? Have they try connecting wired and see if it makes a difference.

3) I haven't used Outlook 2K in a long time, but I remember there being a setting about how to behave when using a slow connection. Something like tools, send receive, send receive settings. I think one of the options was to basically do nothing. You might poke around in those settings and see what you find.

using v 0.9.
1.0 was buggy (some of the toolbar buttons were grayed out . .. wierd).

anyway, i downloaded a few extensions (around 5). closed all firefox windows to effect changes. the only change i see is a small rectangular window that reads "firefox is finishing installing extensions. this could take a minute . . ." - that was yesterday. i left it on for over an hour . .. and nothing. repeated same this morning.

i can't even delete the extensions folder w/o it re-appearing everytime i try to open firefox. what gives ?

Answer:Firefox Exentsions Update not responding . . now Firefox isn't responding

You shouldn't get that kind of a window in the first place.

It sounds like one of the installations messed up your profile--though your Firefox sounds like it had problems of its own, due to the grayed-out options you talked about.

Rescue your bookmarks.htm file, do a profile wipe, and start fresh.

Safely Remove ST325031 0AS SCSI DISK DEVICE - DRIVES (D:, C:) Also my gadget guy had to come out here the other day. The problem: My CPU would come on but not the monitor. It wouldn't even come on. My initial thought was, a shot v-card. But when the guy got here and opened up my girl here, he did something to the battery. After he left, I noticed that a select few sites were taking forever to load, even with my dial up connection. And no, they didn't take that long before. When I say long, I mean long; more than being on hold wth Verizon long. My question: If this happens again, will my machine need a need battery, or to be replaced, or what?  I have had this machine since march of '08. Thanks!

Question: CD/DVD Tray

Hi there

Im new to computing, I ve had my computer for over a week, Dell 5150 with combined cd/dvd burner, tonight I managed to knock the tray off with my leg, now it seems it won,t go back in, any tips on how to insert back in, nothing seems to be broken off or damage, I ve tryed to put it back in to no avail, is it better to take it in the local computer shop for them to look at ? or should i contact dell?

Answer:CD/DVD Tray

dependin on your level of efficiency and comfort in dealing with computers, open up the computer and pull out the drive and try re inserting the drive tray that way, look for small clips and tabs that would normally hold the tray in the drive - the tabs or clips might keep the tray from going back in the drive as well

Question: Cd Tray

I can't get my cd-rom tray to open. What can I do? Before it stopped opening at all I would have to tug (not hard) on it for the tray to come out. Does this mean I need a new Cd-rom? Any and all help would be greatly appericated. I'm running windows me.

Answer:Cd Tray

Sounds like your cd is toasted! However, if you have a cd stuck in the tray, you can get it out using a hi tech tool called a paperclip. Insert the paperclip into the small hole in the front of the cd rom and the tray should open. This is usually a mechanical failure that causes the cd to stop opening.

Good Luck

Question: CD ROM tray

I am attempting to fix a friend of mines CD ROM. He brought it to me saying that the tray would not open. I took it apart and found no apparent defects. Here's the strange part (to me at least), the tray opens fine as long as the upper housing (metal casing) is NOT on. The second I place the upper housing onto it, the tray will not open. I have even tried using another housing with the same result. There doesn't seem to be anything that would prevent the tray from opening unless it has something to do with that little blue (stabilizing?) disk that is part of the upper housing. Any one know what I may be able to do without replacing the whole thing?

Answer:CD ROM tray

For 15 dollars i would opt to replace the drive. I bet you could find a used CD ROM at a local computer store for 15 dollars. If not you could purchase a new DVD-RW for under 30 bucks online...

Not worth the trouble IMO.

I want to minimize a program to the system tray WHILE, at the same time, removing it from displaying in the taskbar. I have tried programs to do this and even AutoHotkey scripts. The Programs/Scripts DO show the icon in the system tray, but it STILL shows on the taskbar too.

Is there another way to get a persistent program to behave the way I want it to? It's a program I always have running, so I want to get it off of the taskbar and ONLY into the system tray (like it's just a background process).

I would even be happy hiding it completely, if that's possible too.

I'm running Windows XP and the Firefox browser. My question is (this may sound dumb)but how do you remove programs from the system tray? I have a dell notebook and I want to free up some system resources. please help!

Answer:System tray

Uninstall them.  Go to Control Panel, Add or Remove Programs, and uninstall them.  Now, I hope you're not going to uninstall important programs such as firewall and anti-virus.  I also suggest you use Task Manager to see how many processes you have running at various times and whether any of them are obviously hogging CPU resources.  Have you experienced some degradation in performance?  Are you currently using some spyware removal tools to keep your system clean?  Ever used CCleaner?  Do you ever defragment your hard drive?

I have a software called BlueSoleil (it helps me connect my Bluetooth headphones & other devices to my laptop : which otherwise doesn't detect them . I use a Bluetooth transmitter/receiver plugged into a usb port in conjunction with that ).
Only time it appears on the Tray , is when on .
Otherwise I have to find it's exe and start it.

I have it pinned to the task bar ; but its just taking up space from other apps I want there. I'd prefer to have it in the Tray so I can always activate it from there. The application itself doesn't have an option to always appear in the tray . Is there a way to do this ? I'm willing to look into the registry for a fix to this .

I've looked at settings in Windows 10, and the place where you're allowed to show items in the system tray : BlueSoleil does not appear as a option there.

I've been looking at third party applications that do this for me , but most don't address this problem, or set off the virus scanners. I rather not have extra programs taking up resources to do that .

Alternatively : I am open to ideas how to make the application always Run at startup.
In that way it will automatically appear in the Tray . Actually I think I can do that in Services ?

Okay, I found that application does have a tray exe service, I just have to make it always run. I will try it out .

Update : I found a application called I might try it out. Virus Total Scanner gave it a good rating . Link - RBTray . I just tried... Read more

Windows Messenger keeps appearing in the tray, when I go to exit, a message appears saying that I need to close all applications currently using features to do with messenger, like ie, outlook express, and msn explorer, I went into msconfig and disabled this service, restarted the machine, I also went into the registry and tried to locate the file, but I couldn't find it, this still doesn't solve the problem, I have reinstalled windows xp yesterday, is this due to the problem, Rhuddlan. And the message saying that I have changed the configuration in msconfig, keeps appearing every time I or someone else logs on, I keep ticking the box to say not to display this message again.

Answer:xp's icon tray

If I understand your question correctly, you are referring to the icons in the taskbar (adjacent to the clock). If this is correct, you should be able to right click an open space on the taskbar and uncheck lock taskbar. This will alow you to right click the offending icon and delete it. You can then go back and lock the taskbar again.

Not all show up because not all of them are useable apps that need to. Some are just parts others just... don't show up. Take McAfee for example. Like 6 or 7 startup items yet only one shows up on the system tray. Get it?If you're concerned about some of them and are wondering what they are you can check Process Library or post them here.

Sounds as though you might have a disk jamming the tray.Keep trying the paper clip method BUT don't do it with the system switched on (for obvious reasons). You may eventually have to take the drive out and open it up enough to free the tray.
