Windows 7 64bit Freezing But Mouse Cursor Moves

Question: Windows 7 64bit Freezing But Mouse Cursor Moves

Since the issue I'm having is roughly equivalent to Windows itself hanging, I figured this would be the best place.
What is happening is that Windows freezes and I can't interact with anything on the screen. CTRL-ALT-DEL and CTRL-SHFT-ESC methods to try to bring up the task manager do not work. I am, however, able to move the mouse when this is happening, but cannot interact with anything. The only thing that returns my system to normal is a hard boot . Over a 2 week period, it has happened at an increasing rate, but my system has run completely stable for something like 5-6 years now. I formatted and reinstalled windows in hopes of a fix, but it's still happening.

OS - Win7 64bit
? What was the original installed OS on the system?-Win7 64bit
? Is the OS an OEM version (came pre-installed on system) or full retail version (YOU purchased it from retailer)?-Retail
? Approximate age of system (hardware)-5-6 years
? Approximate age of OS installation (if you know)-a few days
? Have you re-installed the OS? -Yes

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

About 2 weeks or so ago I started having issues with my mouse moving however it pleased. If I was typing it would move after each letter faster than I could type all the way back to the farthest position to the left. If I tried to open a folder or file, same deal. Cursor moved to the uppermost file. It's immensely frustrating. I read the post above and downloaded the removal tools listed on the thread for Brazstar and I have my logs. 2 of the 4 programs found nothing, but RogueKiller and HitmanPro found a lot of malware. I did as instructed and did nothing about deleting or quarantining. I ignored them and saved the logs. Just trying to log into something is a nightmare as it moves my cursor as I type in the wrong direction. Please help. I can't get anything done this way.

Since i had an update from Microsoft about two weeks ago my computer had a Trojan virus found which was removed. But since the incident my computer cursor has been acting crazy, it jumps, flashes and moving all by itself. When I try to close a document it keeps flashing between yes and no and will not let me chose, unless I push the ESC button. I have tried to reinstall the drivers but there was no success, I?ve ran malware byte, MS security antivirus but no virus or malwares have been found.
I have also noticed that my windows at times will not reboot automatically I then have to push the enter button in order to have windows restarted. I have tried to run the highjack this software but it is giving me a message stating:
?For some reason your system denied write access to the HOST file. If any highjacked domains are in this file, Hijackthis may NOT be able to fix this.??.the message continuous??.

i was going to run the highjack and my last resource before whipping my laptop HD. Please HELP ME.

Answer:windows 7 mouse cursor moves on its own

This problem is most likely a software issue, but in order for us to thoroughly check for malware first, you will need to follow the below procedures.

Please read ALL of this message including the notes before doing anything.

Please follow the instructions in the below link:

READ & RUN ME FIRST. Malware Removal Guide

and attach the requested logs when you finish these instructions.

**** If something does not run, write down the info to explain to us later but keep on going. ****
Do not assume that because one step does not work that they all will not. MGtools will frequently run even when all other tools will not.

After completing the READ & RUN ME and attaching your logs, make sure that you tell us what problems still remain ( if any still do )!
Helpful Notes:

If you run into problems trying to run the READ & RUN ME or any of the scans in normal boot mode, you can run the steps in safe boot mode but make sure you tell us what you did later when you post logs. See the below if you do not know how to boot in safe mode:

Starting your computer in Safe mode

If you have problems downloading on the problem PC, download the tools and the manual updates for SUPERAntiSpyware and Malwarebytes ( links are given in the READ & RUN ME) onto another PC and then burn to a CD. Then copy them to the problem PC. You will have to skip getting updates if (and only if) your internet connection does not work. Yes you could use a flash drive too but fla... Read more

Hi, new to the forum. Fairly experienced PC builder and enthusiast, but have encountered a weird problem that I cannot solve despite a fairly extensive internet search.

Basically the cursor moves randomly whilst in Windows (7) with no mouse input. It does it when the PC is locked, when at the desktop, when browsing the internet, when using the mouse, when not touching the mouse, and even when the mouse is completely disconnected!

The movement is usually in short straight lines and seemingly in random directions, at first I thought someone had remote control of the PC but the movement shows no signs of stopping

I've run full Avast and Adaware scans which have not solved the problem. Restarting the PC does not change anything.

I built the PC recently so there shouldn't be any unwanted programs.

Please help, it's driving me mad!

Hi Everyone,

This is my first post for help on this forum, so please be gentle . I apologize in advance if this is in the wrong section of the forum. Since the issue I'm having is roughly equivalent to Windows itself hanging, I thought it would be the best place. Also, I wasn't able to find a non-BSOD posting requirement list in a few minutes of searching, so if additional information is needed, please let me know.

What is happening is that Windows freezes and I can't interact with anything on the screen. I've tried the normal CTRL-ALT-DEL and CTRL-SHFT-ESC methods to try to bring up the task manager to see if my CPU is maxed or if my RAM is totally taxed, but neither work. I am, however, able to move the mouse when this is happening, but that's it. The only thing that returns my system to normal is a hard boot . Over a week period, it has only happened twice, but my system has run completely stable for longer than a year, so the freezing is new and disturbing for me.

Here is what I've tried:sfc /scannow (no problems found)
chkdsk /f /r (no problems found)
malwarebytes full system scan (no problems found)
eset online system scan (no problems found)
Seagate SEATools all tests (no problems found yet - half way through the long generic test)

Hi guys, first time posting here, but I've run out of options.

In the past week or so I have had several users, all running windows 7 Professional 64bit,

Complain of incessant freezing, the PC freezes up no keyboard shortcuts work or anything however the mouse pointer still moves, unable to click or select anything but still moves.

This has happened on several different machines but all are Dell machines(Desktop and Laptop)

If left for 5-10 minutes the machine resumes normal functionality until it is rebooted and then the same scenario happens again. Event viewer has no errors that I can see related to these crashes.

Thanks

Hi ,
This forum is like a paradise for the people who are using Windows 8 or 8.1

If i have few software open and same time i open the file explorer on the top of it and by using external or internal mouse try to select my HDD or USB drives on the left pane, the mouse cursor always jump away from the file explorer window ( all the actions are Desktop version i am talking about). And i need to minimize all other software in order to select/click C: D: or my USB flash drives. It drive me crazy. It happens in other places of file explorer as well. Like if i try to attach a file to email and dialog box where it has paths to HDD the same thing happens.

Is it a bug ? how to fix it ? is it fixable or not?

I am using Window 8.1 , Lenovo Yoga 2 Pro , Intel i7

I hope to get the help from the great expertise here.

Hi Guys,
My Cursor has come down with a serious case of the blues. It won't stop moving down on the screen. It somehow started after I cleaned my computer (though I'm not sure if that had anything to do with it) just giving the outside a wipe and a vacuum (which I did when it was on, now I'm thinking that might be a no no).
It's a wireless mouse and keyboard but I have tried disconnecting the mouse and using a standard one but unfortunately it is still happening.
Any ideas how to fix this (I'm running windows 7 if that makes any difference).

Answer:Mouse Cursor always moves down

The problem is fixed.
Decided to restart for the 5th or 6th time and this time the problem has vanished.
No idea what caused it though.

So me and my little sister have been freaking out over our new system acting weird. Today she left her laptop open to get back in home later and find out the cursor moving as if someone had remote access and took over the cursor and opened many programs I don't know how a hacker would use them (disk management, 2 MSpaint windows, though the camera was open and the Internet Security was turned off, which is why I'm paranoid).
Upon further inspection the cursor moving as if it had no purpose. Moving everywhere on screen doing left and right click with no definitive pattern so I thought maybe the usb touch tablet was causing the problem since it had a wire over it and causing false input signal. So I intentionally unplugged the tablet without disconnecting from internet and it stopped acting ever since.
But I did not stop there. I've done a full system check "processes, services, "netstat -ano" in command prompt, msconfig, etc" and found nothing suspicious. What I have found instead is when I did a full system scan the security software (Which is Eset Internet Security and Malwarebytes, in this case) and it detected the following thread.
Win32/Bundled.Toolbar.Google.d
Or
Win32/Bundled.Toolbar.Google
I did my research and apparently it's a PUP that came from an application named Ccleaner and defraggler I installed in her laptop, which is weird since Eset did not give me Any warnings when installing.

I have a Dell Inspiron 3520 which is just one year old and only just out of warranty. The screen has started freezing intermittently but the cursor is still able to move. I have run diagnostic checks and everything passes. I think it started just after I upgraded to Windows 8.1 which doesn't seem to like working with Google Chrome and at first I thought that was the issue but it still freezes with Internet Explorer. Looked at loads of info online but nothing seems relevant or fixes it. Bought a new optical mouse as I even thought the mouse was the problem but it is still the same issue. Can anyone help me please.

Answer:Screen Freezing intermittently but cursor moves

Could be a bad driver from Windows update. Try running in safe mode for a while. Easiest way to get to it ( if you've not enabled F8) is press the SHIFT key and click on any power icon, select 'restart' still pressing the Shift key. You should then get the Advanced Option blue screen. Select Troubleshoot - advanced options - Start-up settings - restart - from the list select safe mode with networking. It should go online if not using an adapter. See if it runs ok. If it does check windows update and see if the graphics driver has been updated. My guess is it could be that.

Hi. The other day my mouse-cursor just started to move and wiggle, chaotically, and by itself towards the right side of the screen.. I have tried to switch mouse and unplug, but it doesn't help, so I figure it has to be some kind of virus or malware, yea? When it happened I installed Trend Micro Internet Security and ran a scan of my computer. It came up with one so called "generic Trojan" named "services.exe" located in C:/Windows AND one virus named "a.exe" located in C:/Windows/System32.

I went into the windows folder and found the trojan file "services.exe" to maybe try and delete it, dunno if I should've, but I was pretty aggrevated at the time, but anyway I couldn't because I needed "permission" from vista. I also looked up the virus file called "a.exe" in the system32 folder, where trend micro told me it was, but I could not find it in any searches.

Anyway, this is all very frustrating to me, because I use my computer for work, and obviously a chaotically, wiggly mouse makes it quite hard for me to do anything at all.. so I would highly appreciate some help with getting rid of whatever it is doing this!

Thanks!

Welcome to TSF hoofbite,

Noooo, you sure do not want to be deleting files you are not sure of, and especially those like "services.exe" which is usually an essential (and protected) system file. Not seeing any infection here so far - let's run a repair scan then check after.

To keep them from interfering with the repairs, be sure to temporarily disable all antivirus/anti-spyware softwares while these steps are being completed. This can usually be done through right clicking the software's Taskbar icons, or accessing each software through Start - Programs.

Download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware from Here or Here.

Double Click mbam-setup.exe to install the application.

* Make sure a checkmark is placed next to Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then click Finish.
* If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
* Once the program has loaded, select "Perform quick scan", then click Scan.
* The scan may take some time to finish,so please be patient.
* When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
* Make sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
* When disinfection is completed, a log will open in Notepad and you may be prompted to Restart.
* The log is automatically saved by MBAM and can be viewed by clicking the Logs tab in MBAM.
* Copy and Paste the entire report in your next reply.... Read more

I am running Windows Vista and Norton 360 wich has detected nothing. I tried a system restore to a day earlier when things were fine and still have the same problem. Between restarts the direction which the cursor moves has changed from right to left to left to right. I have tried different mice and no mice at all but the cursor continues to move on its own.

Thank you for your help in advance.

Hey everyone,

So yesterday my wife's computer started this new trick where it boots up with no issues except that the pointer for the mouse stays stuck in the same spot on the screen. Now the funny part...if you move the mouse around the computer will change the focus of different items (start button, window tabs, etc) as if the mouse was hovering over them. So it seems the mouse is sending information and the computer is receiving it, but windows is not displaying it.

The current mouse is an optical usb, I have tried another optical usb, and an old ps2 mouse with the same result.

If I boot into safe mode there are no issues and the mouse works fine.

A scan with AVG revealed nothing and I am currently running a scan with spybot....and sadly she had system restore turned off, so no jumping back in time.

Any thoughts?

Recently, my mouse cursor has automatically moved to either the top-right of my screen or bottom left, making it almost impossible to use my laptop. Sometimes it would return back to normal for a couple of minutes before spazzing out again. I've already tried disabling the touchpad and connecting a wireless mouse but the issue still persists. I've also tried to update the driver, restarting my laptop and reinstalling the dell touchpad device.

I think I've acquired a pesky little virus which is becoming rather irritating. For the past 3 days, when I start up my computer (even after restarts and whatnot), the cursor moves to the top of the screen then to the right and stays there. If I move the mouse so that the cursor moves onto the screen, it simply moves back to the top and right fast enough so that my mouse is basically useless right now. I've tried to system restore from safe mode, but I must have gotten this thing planted from earlier than my system restore goes. I've also tried 3 different mouses, two laser vision and one ball, all with the same result. I've also tried running a full scan, but it found no malicious content. I don't know what else to try other than reinstalling Windows, which I would prefer to not have to go through that hassle. I have a desktop IBM running Windows XP. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

So I've had the Y40 now for a week and the only thing bothering me is that the 2 mouse buttons on the trackpad are connected to the trackpad vs. separate buttons.  So when I use the mouse buttons to click on things, sometimes, and often, when I press down on the button, the cursor will move! I've looked at mouse properties and ELAN software options and I can't find a way to turn OFF trackpad movements ON THE BUTTONS.  Can someone please help me?  Is no one else experiencing this?

Ok, I just installed Hitman : Contracts but I noticed that the cursor moves like 0.2 sec after I move the mouse... which is quite annoying. I got an very powerful machine (P4 3.2, 6600GT, 1 Gig of ram in dual channel, WD 200 Go Sata Hard drive, etc...) for such a game so it is probably not a performance problem...
Any idea about why is does that an what I can do to solve this problem?

Since I had my computer to the shop (for virus removal - they couldn't remove whatever I had and had to reformat the HD) my mouse cursor is moving in a jerky fashion when an Internet page is loading or has a lot of animations on it. It isn't this way all the time, for instance Google.com it moves normally, but pages like TCM.com, it's really erratic. At the shop they had a optical mouse plugged in, but at home I have an old-fashioned rollerball mouse which is fairly new and plugged into the PS2 port with an adapter (it won't work in the USB port). I looked in the device manager, but there were no hardware conflicts and it indicated the device was working properly. Also, before taking it to the shop, I had Firefox 3.6.17 installed, but they installed Firefox 7.0.1. Any ideas why the mouse cursor is intermittently jerky and what could be done to remedy this? Thanks in advance.

My system - HP Pavilion 750n, 1.6 GHz Pentium 4 processor, 768 MB RAM.

Answer:Mouse cursor moves jerkily

Open Control Panel, click on Mouse, then the Pointer Options.

I just restarted my computer and at the start my Avira Antvirus picked up on a some Trojan and I just clicked on delete. Then I noticed my mouse would keep wiggling up toward the Left corner. I thinks its obviously some kind of malware or something making it move, cause it just keeps wiggling and spontaneously jumps up or to the side. So its obviously some kind of a program because it keeps happening even after I disconnect the mouse or connect another one.

Anyone know how to fix this ?

Hi there. I hope you can help.

I have a Toshiba Satellite U500, less than a year old, and am having real problems with the mouse cursor moving where it wants, when it wants, sometimes even when my hands are nowhere near the laptop. I've run every virus/trojan/malware scan and there are no problems there. Tapping is disabled and the sensity levels etc are low. I am using Windows 7 and there were no problems until the last couple of days (apart from an occasional hour or two of the same thing a few months ago.

Oh and I don't have an external mouse; only the inbuilt Toshiba one. Any ideas? It's making working very difficult.

Many thanks.

When I start my Portege Z series the mouse cursor moves by its own. Alfer several minutes (less than one hour) it stops and it works properly.
For your information on the Notebook the Antivirus is installed and updated: AVIRA and Spybot

What I've already tried to resolve the problem:
1) I've downloaded and installed the last version of the driver ALPS pointer device even thus the same versione was already installed. No results, same behaviour
2) I've tried with an external USB mouse, deactivating touchpad/pointing stick. No results, same behaviour

Any suggestions, please?
Thanks in advance

Answer:Portege Z series - mouse cursor moves on its own

Maybe you could try to boot with a Live CD/USB Stick. If this issue also happens with the Live OS the issue is notebook related. If not, it?s a Windows issue and maybe a recovery would solve the problem.

Hello.

I have Windows 7 64 bit Ultimate installed for almost 2 months now. Lately I've started to experience very strange behaviour.
The mouse cursor moves all the way left by itself (and keeps moving after I move or lift the mouse), usually when I'm clicking in task manager or event viewer or anything to do with system monitoring. If I'm clicking or doing anything in a browser, or windows explorer, it normally doesn't happen. The only way I can stop it, when it moves left to the edge of the screen, is by clicking on either the browser window or the taskbar. It keeps happening again & again and it first started today.

Even worse, the number of processes in task manager sometimes jumps from 49 to 67 or higher, without anything running to warrant such an increase.
I scanned the computer with Malwarebytes and Microsoft Security Essentials, they both didn't find anything.

It's getting near impossible to do any work on my computer & I need your help.

Hello, I have a problem with my mouse, when I use the right-click button on my mouse in games like, Unreal, Heroes of Might and Magic 5 etc, it moves my cursor to down to the right. And that is making my gaming experience when playing FPS games quite bad. I was hoping that someone could tell me what might be causing this. so to sum up on what I have tested:- It is not the mouse I am using, I have tried with 3 different mice. All of them from 3 different companies, Razer, Logitech and some other.- it is not happening in all games, it does not happen in World of Warcraft, but does happen in Unreal and Heroes of Might and magic 5.- I have tried to change all of my mousesettings in the mousesettings, but none of that seems to be causing the problem. If anyone has any suggestions or ideas I would very much appreciate it!Best Regards Winnerburger.

Answer:Right clicking with mouse moves my cursor in games *Help!*

I'm a beginner at this, but I will give it a shot.Could it be your mouse driver? Did you load a mouse driver at some time? If you did, you might try reloading the mouse driver and using the mouse that goes with that driver.Perhaps you have to remove a mouse driver that you loaded, but I wouldn't know how to do that. After removing the driver, maybe things will work. If not, reload the driver and see what happens.Remember, this is from a beginner, so take it with a grain of salt. Perhaps check with more knowledgeable people whether this is good advice.Harry

Hi folks. I don't know how to say this, but let's just say it. I experience from time to time sudden mouse movements when I use my pc. It feels like as if somebody other than me is controlling the mouse! is this a hacking symptom or is it just a bug in windows or other programs? If somebody experienced this, please share your experience and how you solved the problem.

Thanks.

Answer:Am I hacked into? Mouse cursor makes sudden moves!

I had this happen with a bad logitech mouse. It would just jump all over the screen randomly. Why do you think your being hacked into? Do you run a firewall? Antivirus?

Hi all. So, I've got a desktop running Windows 7 32bit, and a corded USB Dell optical mouse. This morning I booted up the computer, and after a short while the mouse cursor started staggering up to the upper right hand corner of the screen and would not come back down.

I tried plugging in a different optical mouse, and the same thing happened. I tried all the usb ports on the computer, no change. I tried updating the drivers and just uninstalling and reinstalling the mouse, no change. I did a system restore to yesterday, when it was working just fine. That actually seemed to work for a few minutes, then it started up again.

So right now I'm running a full system virus scan, but I was just wondering if anyone here had any ideas as to the cause. I haven't downloaded any software or changed any settings in the last few days.

Thanks!

Answer:Mouse Cursor moves to Upper Right Corner, won't come back.

What is your graphics card ? Have you very recently upgraded the graphics driver ?

if so, try a downgrade , it might be solved.

I recently noticed a problem with my cursor. When I move the mouse so that the cursor goes to the right edge of my screen, it doesn't stop at the right edge like it does when I move it to the left edge. The cursor will move far beyond the right edge and then I have to move the mouse the same "distance" for the cursor to re-appear on the right edge of my screen. When I first noticed this, I thought my mouse driver was dropping out on me. I'm using a Microsoft Intellimouse Optical that I bought new a couple months ago.

So my cursor will go to the left side of the screen and stop, just as it normally would. When I move the cursor to the right side of the screen, it will go beyond the right edge, sometimes FAR beyond the right edge and I have to move it the same distance to the left for the cursor to show up at the right hand edge of my screen. It not only does this on my desktop, but any program I'm using as well. I have tried re-installing the latest version of the mouse driver from microsoft but still have the same problem. Any suggestions? Thank you!

Answer:Mouse problem cursor moves way beyond right edge of screen

The system was set up for having 2 monitors for some reason. When I changed it back to a single monitor only, the problem went away.

Hi there

I have a Satellite Pro A300. When I attach a mouse directly by USB the cursor is constantly moving. I also have a mouse attached via a Toshiba docking station and that works perfectly.

It doesn't matter which USB port I use or whether the laptop is connected to the docking station or not, or whether it is running on mains or battery power.

I thought it was the mouse that was the problem so I went and bought a new one but the problem is persisting.

Actually, while I have been writing this post, it has stopped doing it and then started again! Very frustrating.

Can anyone help?

Thanks

Susib

Answer:Satellite Pro A300 - Cursor constantly moves when external mouse connected

Hi

How about the touchpad? does the cursor moves and jumps using the touchpad?
Try to disable the touchpad while using the USB mouse? check if you can notice a difference?

How about BIOS?
Do you have the latest version installed?

My grandpa's laptop has been practically unusable as of late... it's been 3 days technically. All programs will "freeze" within a few minutes, and if more than one program has been opened aside the startup defaults, there's no chance. He's had the laptop for roughly a year and it has never reacted this way.

I recently have cleaned the HD and defragged, cleared out all of %temp%, and ran a few virus programs (which detected a few mywebsearch adware that is promptly removed) to no avail.

Lately my HP Pavilion 750n (Windows XP as the OS, 1.6 GHz Pentium 4 processor and 768 MB RAM) has developed an problem of the mouse cursor freezing. This is accompanied by a click sounding from the tower and the HD light comes on. The computer completely locks up, so I can't determine what is causing this since pressing the CTRL-ALT-DEL keys are inoperative. I have to unplug the power, then re-start to get the mouse working again. I have MSE as the security software. Scans with this show no viruses. Any idea what's going on?

Answer:Mouse Cursor Freezing

The HP Pavilion 750n desktop is several years old, so it's a good probability the hard drive is failing.
The freezing mouse cursor and clicking sound from inside the tower reinforces that suspicion.

If the hard drive does need replacing and you don't have the original recovery disc kit available to install Windows XP, you can purchase it here.

Hi there,

My mouse cursor freezes once every ~30s for about 1~2s. It doesn't happen all the time, but I suspect it might happen because of the usage of postgreSQL, as I've seen 2 other people with the same problem who also used it.

I have tested another mouse, the problem persists. I've tried updating mouse/USB drivers as well, nothing helped.

My trackpad, however, doesn't stop working at any time.
Any ideas?

Thanks.

Answer:Mouse cursor freezing

Interesting how when you tested another mouse the issue persisted, but it works with the trackpad. Are both mice you tried (non-trackpad) wired or wireless?

Hi, Everyone- when typing on a new Asus EEE 1015, with Win 7, the cursor will suddenly jump backwards to an earlier spot in the text. This happens a lot, and makes it difficult to type anything.

I googled and saw this problem for many systems and OSs, but it seems like mainly a laptop and netbook problem. some people have erduced sensitivity on touchpads, or have updated touchpad drivers, or have installed a program that disconnects the touchpad when the keys are being used.

We know we are not touching the touchpad accidentally. you can really perch your fingers way above, and the jump still happens. We have decreased the sensitivity on the touchpad, and the jumping still happens.

We also have an Asus EEE 1005 Win XP, for almost a year, with absolutely no cursor jumping.

Any info specific to this set-up? I would love to hear any insights, before I go into a long routine of upgraing BIOS, upgrading touchpad drives, etc.

Answer:Cursor jumping Asus Eee 1015, cursor moves when typing

As the PC is new I would return it under warranty as this is most likely a hardware issue.

The only quick fix that might work is to reinstall the touchpad drivers from the Asus site. You could also check in the touchpad settings to see what is set for making the cursor disappear during typing, change the setting from whatever it is at present and see if that helps.

Hi All,
I have an Evision Monitor and I finally have turned off the 'hotkeys' for it, because I believe I'm hitting a combination of keys which makes the monitor display do wacky things i.e. rotate completely around so the display is upside down. I was able to rectify most issues I've run into, except this mornings. I have both my laptop and Envision displaying, except the laptop display is displaying larger so that 1/4 of the display cannot be viewed, if I don't move my cursor. When I use my cursor the Envision display is fine, but the laptop display moves with the cursor. I am not sure if what I am trying to relay to this forum makes sense , hopefully it does. I've gone through the whole Pivotal properties etc. trying out different ones, and can't seem to get the laptop displaying correctly. Your assistance in rectifying this issue would be greatly appreciated!

Hi! Here's what I've got going on...

Hardware:
Asus N53SV laptop with Windows 7 64bit.
Hardware is original other than a recent upgrade to 14gb of RAM (added 2 4gb sticks to the original 6gbs of RAM)

I started having this problem periodically and it has been getting worse to the point where my computer becomes unusable. Often, when I switch programs, close some programs, etc, the problem will go away temporarily then come back.

The problem is this:
The cursor/screen moves to the top-left most part of whatever program, window or text box I'm in. This happens on the desktop (the upper left hand icon is highlighted over and over), in Firefox and Chrome (webpages keep returning to the top, and in the URL bar or any text box, the cursor returns to the beginning of the box when I try to type), and every other program.

Things I've tried:
-I ran Malwarebytes and Avast. Malwarebytes did find a couple of minor things but I quarantined them and the problem remained. Avast didn't find anything.
-I changed mouse/trackpad settings, including alternatively disabling the mouse and the trackpad, but the problem remained no matter which setting was changed or which of the mouse or trackpad was disabled.
-I closed most of the programs running on my computer one by one (went into the hidden icons section and closed them, and closed each browser.)

One other thing to note is that I recently used CCleaner to clean files and clean the registry, bu... Read more

Answer:Cursor/screen moves to top/left in all programs and windows

First thing I would recommend would be to plug in an external mouse and disable the mousepad driver to see if the issue stays.

If it doesn't and the external mouse works fine, check some of these:

Have you tried using some compressed air in, on and around the keyboard and mousepad?  Also using a electronics approved cleaner to clean the mousepad?  You may also try uninstalling the mousepad drivers and downloading/installing the latest drivers?

It seems like every 10-20 seconds, my cursor freezes in one spot for a split second, then it's fine. It's so repetitive, it's a nuisance and I can't finish up work I have to do on the computer. I'm really not sure what it is...switched USB ports three different times (USB laser mouse), so I'm clueless.

I'm don't think this should be in hardware, because my keyboard (K350) and mouse (M570) do work. Batteries are "good" according to SetPoint.

I performed a fresh install back in the first week of March when I picked up my SSD. What has begun happening in the last couple weeks is that when I have IE9 open and I am either running a video or have more than one tab open the mouse cursor will freeze up, or the keyboard will hang, and "drop" some letters or show the ones I typed after a delay. I have scanned with AVG and MalwareBytes. Both come up empty. I have also adjusted the USB settings to disable the USB suspend option, to no avail. I have the latest drivers, and software from Logitech. Everything is wireless, unifying, and it doesn't matter how far away you are.

This is really getting on my [expletive deleted] nerves. Has anyone encoutered anything like this? I could only find one vague reference to a Windows update not installing properly.

I have a solid board (Asus Sabertooth), with plenty of memory (16GB DDR3-1866), CPU not even a year old, AND an SSD (Vertex 3 120GB). It just did it again when I typed "GB". Took a full second to appear, and I only have ONE tab open. This should not be happening, and didn't until recently. :mad

Anyone have any ideas?

Answer:Mouse cursor freezing, typing too

Just a follow up, I was ready to flip last night as the freezing got to be a MAJOR pain in the a$$.

I run the Aero effects, and happened to glance up in the corner of the desktop as I closed the browser, and saw the Windows Media center sidebar gadget rolling from promo, to promo. Thought to myself, "do I really need it, when I can use a shortcut?".

Voila!!!

So far, so good issue seems to be solved. Whacked, right?

I was using a flash drive, putting photos in "my pictures". Cursor moved, but a message stated my pictures not responding. After an hour. The new Dell xps 12 laptop with Windows 8 started to feel hot and I used the start up switch on left side because I couldn't get the cursor to move to settings (off). A black screen appeared when I turn it on, cursor moved all around. I couldn't get the Dell logo on and I pressed enter several times. Had to turn it off with the start switch manually. Help. Thank you.

One the mouse freezes after 5 minutes of boot after i have just loaded Firefox and then my system freezes or if that doesn't happen my mouse freezes for a couple of seconds and then it starts changing icons and freezes and disappear. The only thing i am doing while this happening is browsing Firefox and using remote desktop and using word press to post on my website. I have tried reinstalling the drivers for the mouse and looked for any yellow simple in device management but there is none what can it be is my mouse failing please help.

Hi Baggy2014,

Have you checked a different mouse on the system to isolate the issue? Also, perform a clean boot on the system to check the same:

Clean Boot

Also, check the system under safe mode and let us know if it occurs there as well:

Safe Mode

Keep us posted with the results so we can advise you further.

Hi.. I have had this problem for about a week now....
I have a sony vaio windows 7 IE 8 Laptop that I love and it is only a year old.
in the past 5 days the cursor on my logitech wireless mouse freezes. The only way to get out of it is ctrl. alt. del and it goes to my home screen and I cancel and the cursor comes back.. sometimes I go for hours and it doesnt
freeze and then sometimes it freezes every 5 minutes. there are times when I ctl. alt delete and it goes to my screen and I have to manually shutdown as even if I touch the pad on my laptop I cannot close it.. and of course when the cursor freezes
the screen freezes too.

Just to let you know that there is nothing wrong with my battery or mouse
as I have another one just like it and it does the same thing

I contacted Sony Vaio and they came in by remote and put in a patch
and said that should do the trick. but it did not...

any ideas....

do you need more info and if so what else would help in this situation.

I also play some games and that is when I most get this. and I have
the flash 102..... the latest version. and my java is uptodate.

I should also say that at times my IE8 says not responding.....

thanx Coco.

p.s.I have a friend who is very computer savy and comes in by remote
to fix things on my computer and this is stumping even him..

The problem will be explained lower but let me tell you how this was. So I've had this problem like 1,5 years ago, after I bought the laptop. So I bought a cheap mouse for it back then, and I noticed that the laptop had problems with the USB mouse, fine, I thought it was the poor mouse, so I bought another cheap one, and it worked fine. Then I bought a gamepad, and again, this problem.Today I bought a gaming mouse, and the problem re-appeared. I've been searching through the internet all day long. Basically, the mouse cursor freezes constantly, also with that "plugged-unplugged" sound, but the touchpad works.I've been looking all around, tried the mouse on another laptop and it works fine.I've tried:- Starting the laptop in safe mode.- Uninstalling/reinstalling the realtek USB reader or w/e its name is.- The device manager trick (I think you know what I'm talking about)- Been changing the OS many times after I bought the laptop, that problem persisted with the gamepad.- Tried different ports around the laptop. None of them helped. BUT, I saw that actually it hangs when the CPU is throttling. I've changed my power plan to energy saver and the problem went away. I've changed the maximum/minimum CPU power, the problem went away. But the frequency sets constantly at 800 MHz. What can I do to keep it at 2200 MHz (i3-2330M clock speed) and also keep the mouse working well?

Hi,
I have windows vista.
A couple of weeks ago someone on here assisted me with my computer. I had search engine redirect, along with other problems.
It was okay for awhile but then all of a sudden it started working very badly now. One thing is norton 360 seemed to disappear from my computer. I got directions and uninstalled norton and then reinstalled it again, now the norton seems to be working okay.
But since then, the mouse cursor has been moving erratically, totally disappearing and freezing up the whole screen. The screen keeps flashing to blank screens or my previous screen for a few seconds and then coming back to the screen I am on. It is having problems restarting alot of times and sometimes I can not even do anything before it freezes. I have started it in safe mode with networking and still seemed to have the same problems. The mouse pointer was still moving erratically and not working well. Just in the time that I have typed this so far the screen has flashed to a previous screen 4 times.
I have run norton scans and I dont think it is finding to much but tracking cookies.
Any other help would be appreciated.
Thanks
Kim

Answer:computer freezing, mouse cursor disappearing or moving erratically

Hello Kim,,, may be having a hard drive beginning to fail or file corruption. I would recommend immediate backupo of important files in case. Probably not a malware issue. So I 'd run SFC and if you still hae trouble ask this in Vista and they can check your drive and other things. Please run SFC (System File Checker) Please run System File Checker sfc /scannow... For more information on this tool see How To Use Sfc.exe To Repair System FilesNOTE for Vista/WIN 7 users..The command needs to be run from an Elevated Command Prompt.Click Start, type cmd into the Start/Search box,right-click cmd.exe in the list above and select 'Run as Administrator'You will need your operating system CD handy.Open Windows Task Manager....by pressing CTRL+SHIFT+ESCThen click File.. then New Task(Run)In the box that opens type sfc /scannow ......There is a space between c and /Click OKLet it run and insert the CD when asked.

Ok, I just put this computer together for my mother in law and it's been randomly freezing, usually with a black screen and an oversized mouse cursor arrow. Once it had like 4 mouse cursor arrows.
This is what the even viewer says;
The Monitor Image service terminated with the following error:
A dynamic link library (DLL) initialization routine failed.

Google has been no help at all.
I think I may need update the video drivers but I'm not sure. I've been trying to download them since early this morning but the computer crashes before I can.

Hello. I have upgraded from 32 bit Windows 7 to 64 bit Windows 7, and I've been having problems with it. After a while, a program would freeze, then everything else would freeze. I have checked for viruses, chkdsk, sfc /scannow, memtest86+, defragged updated my graphics drivers, etc, until I finally re-installed. The problem still persists, but it's not as dominant, but it is preventing me from working properly. I feel it's kinda obvious that something is activating it (but still random) but I don't know what.

Here is my System info:

Hello TSG forum, this is my post!

I'm facing a strange problem, I have googled for this symptom, but I still think this is an unique case so I want to make a new thread.

Here's my computer specs:
Antec 700W PSU
MB: Asus P7T55D
RAM: Adata 4+2x2 Gb 1600
CPU: Intel core i5 750, stock clock
GPU: Inno 3D GTX 770 (factory overclocked, installed about a month or two ago)
SSD: Intel 128Gb
Several HDDs for data and game

I now have the issue of the application freezes (whether it's any games or firefox, or chrome, or media player). In an in-game environment, the screen freezes and the audio clips itself. If I was using a web browser with windows media player next to the browser window, the browser would freeze but the video plays smoothly. The CPU and GPU monitor shows that during the freeze their activity drops to zero.

I'm very sure this isn't a hardware problem, and I accepted this could be a lengthy bug hunting. So here's what I did so far
1. Ran Malwarebytes and quarantined all detected malwares
2. Checked nVidia drivers for update. Honestly the latest firmware is very buggy to begin with. But it wouldn't spread the crashes to Windows environment surely?
3. Ran health check on RAM, no results
4. Ran cmd/scannow for corroupted files, no results

I'm simply out of moves. Can anyone please help?

What version of drivers are you using now? Have you tried legacy drivers? Were you having issue prior to the installation of the Inno3d GTX 770"

3. Ran health check on RAM, no results

The Windows memory diagnostic does a decent job. But to make sure I would run a full diagnostic using Memtest

4. Ran cmd/scannow for corroupted files, no results

You mean sfc /scannow Upload that file so we can take a look at it. But check if the latest scan is there. Go to C:\Windows\Logs\CBS and check if the CBS.log file is there. Here's how: Go to the CMD "Run as Admin" and copy and past this command;

findstr /c:"[SR]" %windir%\Logs\CBS\CBS.log >"%userprofile%\Desktop\sfcdetails.txt

The sfcdetails.txt should show up on the desktop. Upload that file please. How to; Click Go Advanced \ Scroll to Manage Attachments. Locate the file and upload. Click to expand...

For the past few days, as soon as my pc finishes booting, my onscreen cursor begins to move erratically and uncontrollably all over the screen, sometimes parking along the right-hand edge of the visible screen. If I'm patient enough, I can OCCASIONALLY regain temporary control of the cursor by moving the mouse around, but the cursor eventually goes off on its own. This is becoming very frustrating.

I own a 2-year old Dell Dimension 4600 running Windows XP Home Edition. I maintain an updated subscription to McAfee Security Suite (anti-virus; anti-spyware; firewall; etc.), and also run AdAware SE Personal Edition daily, as well as AOL's own version of anti-virus/anti-spyware software, usually before I log off the computer.

Any help you could provide would be greatly appreciated.

Thanx!

please help!

suddenly, my cursor keeps moving to the right of the screen by itself. I disconnected the mouse and keyboard by it would still keep this strange behavioral. An example, i open firefox, click on tools and the cursor would scroll like crazy to the right of the menu bar within firefox so you cant really access any of the menu. Another example, I go to start and as soon as I click on start, the cursor (not the mouse pointer) would go to the right. Even as I write these lines, the cursor moves like crazy to the right as far as it can go......! I scanned my computer with AVG which indicated all is clean. I can't run highjack because as soon as I reach the installation window when you can either run or cancel the installation, the cursor would move right to cancel and I can click on run. NEVER HAD T HIS VERY STRANGE ISSUE!

Anyone can help out? where do I start?

Hi, my problem is that sometimes my cursor will move to the left all by itself. I try to shut down and its like trying to shoot moving ducks in order to press the buttons on the screen. It always moves to the left. I have tested the laptop with all the (updated daily) virus software I have, and spyware.
I thought that maybe someone is taking over my pc. Fortunately I don't keep any sensitive files or passwords on it, but it is very annoying to say the least. It hasn't happened for a couple of days now, but it can happen any time. It isn't always when I'm online, but the pc uses a wireless connection.
It only started happening a week ago. Anyway, I'd appreciate any help any of you can give. Oh! Also the machine is very slow.
It's a Dell Lat 610 with xp/256 ram.

Question: cursor moves ?

please help! the cursor on my sisters pc has suddenly started leaping all over the screen and lots of windows open up at the same time when on line, any ideas gratefully reeived

Answer:cursor moves ?

Sounds like you have been zapped by a hijacker which has changed you home page to one which has lots and lots of pop-ups associated with it.The first thing to do is to try setting your home page to 'Blank'. This should enable you to browse to your desired homepage and set it to default.Do this in Internet Options before going online.Lots of ways to get there but try Intenet Settings in the Control Panel first. After that you need to get some spyware/malware protection such as Spybot S&D - Adaware - A-Squared etc. and run the scans. Delete all the resulting files and then try browsing again.Be very careful which sites you visit.

It completely depends, do you have something like a VNC server set up on your computer,
what sort of mouse do you have,
what programs do you have running?
have you tried scanning for viruses?

this is very vague though.

Hello Again,
I have a TE2100 - its about 4.5 years old. Its been a good computer but recently I have been having problems with the cursor moving across the screen by itself.
It moves in a straight line - sometimes up, sometimes down, left or right.
When I first boot up its usually OK but soon starts moving, getting faster and faster.
I have tried everything - checked for malicious software, changed the pointer settings from mouse to pointer (it has one of those blue nipple things in the keyboard, not a touch pad).

Has anyone experienced this problem or have a solution. I'm new to this site - should I reinstall drivers? Are they somewhere on this site?

Thanks for any help.

It jumped and moved on the display and it was not possible to keep it under control.
He has contacted the ASP and there was a hardware malfunction.

Question: Cursor Moves Oddly

Alright - I'm running Windows XP on a Toshiba Latitude C600/C500 (that's what it says on the bottom). I also have Avast! as virus protection. I don't have a mouse, I just use the touchpad. However, just today the cursor started behaving... oddly. Usually it works normally, but every once in awhile it will decide to scroll diagnally across the screen, usually down & to the left. It will also do this whenever I right-click. It will stay down in the corner for around 30 seconds, and then it will work normally again. My hands and the touchpad are both clean. Any help?

I've sort of gotten accustomed to dealing with this issue so it isn't a high priority but I thought I would post for those who enjoy a challenge.

I have one computer where every so often, for reasons I know not, the cursor begins to move backwards and the only way I can cure the issue is to reboot.

I can't for the life of me figure out what would be causing it.

Memory is new, tested and good. Temps are fine.

To describe it as best I can I will be surfing or such and attempt to input some keywords into the box and the characters will show backwards with the cursor continually returning to the far left margin.

If you happen to be composing a post/reply and you are a couple of paragraphs into it when this occurs the cursor will suddenly begin to travel on its own from wherever it is one space at a time toward the top left of the page until it gets to where there is nowhere left to go.

If you click and put it back where it was it will merrily continue on it's journey toward the left.

Anyone ever see such weirdness before?

I have naturally scanned for viruses, trojans etc., even though I was fairly confident that there aren't any as I'm quite careful, and the scans all come up clean.

The machine runs fine and crunchers nonstop without any errors it just has this one annoying habit.

I'm running vista on a Compaq Presario laptop and I've been having issues with the cursor. More specifically when there's the option to click "yes" or "cancel" it shuffles very quickly between the two. Sometimes when I'm typing, the text cursor moves back to a place I've already typed. Other than that, it moves to the right on it's own, moreso than the left. But I often hear the sound that you get when you backspace and there's no more text, and it just makes that sound repeatedly, I usually just mute the computer. I've run out of ideas of what it could be. Can anyone help, or suggest something that I could do, or a problem that may be happening?

Hi everyone!

I downloaded version 7100 a few weeks ago. I love this operating system and would like to stick with it, but I can't fix the cursor problem no matter what I do. It periodically moves to the right bottom of the screen on it's own.

Here are the things I've tried so far:
- turned off "enhance mouse movement" under control panel (suggested on a few forums online)
- turned off laptop trackpad, in case it is reacting to some movement
- switched between between 3 USB ports
- switched to another mouse
- switched mouse pads (dark, non-shiny surface)
- disconnected the mouse from USB port and used the laptop track pad instead
- turned the mouse upside down (such that the little red light was no longer activated, but the cursor still moved on it's own)
- turned off the option to write on screen (I have a tablet laptop)
- checked for new drivers, reinstalled drivers.

I am thinking this may be a software, not mouse problem. The strange thing is, the problem seems to be less frequent for a little bit after I do one of the things above, but then comes back full swing again in a little bit.

Has anyone had this problem before? I would appreciate any suggestions!

-Natasha

I am having a problem that appears to be happening daily, sometimes twice in a day.

1) Typically I have the internet open to my email and I also have Mozilla open doing research.
2) All of a sudden my cursor starts moving to the left. Then the screen especially on the internet starts increasing and decreasing in size flashing back and forth.
3) I have found that if I remove cache from the mozilla selection clear private data and then reboot the problem goes away. I run avast and it doesn't appear to recognize what ever is causing it. I run spybot and found that the problem is in the cache, which using clear private data solves.
4) I am running out of ideas. The reboot is clearing this, but I don't know what is really behind this problem. I need help this is really draging down my work capability.
5) I operate in XP Professional, on a HP Pavillion DV8240US Notebook PC.

I have an Acer Aspire 5570 Notebook. The cursor jumps to someplace else while typing a message. In fact it has occurred while typing this message. Usually it jumps to a place earlier in the message, but not predictable.

Sometimes the entire message disappears.

Any ideas whether it is hardware or software. Have tried interal mouse and external mouse. Same problem.

Answer:Cursor moves inadvertantly

By internal, you mean the laptop touchpad and by external, you mean a mouse, correct?

Have you gone into the control Panel> Mouse>>>>
1. Pointer options button> check the Snap to box.
2. Orientation tab> follow instructions and set the orientation
3. Touchpad tab> check both Tapping and Sensitivity and set each for your touch.

Check all remaining buttons in Mouse Properties and make any adjustments you need> when finished> Apply> OK.

IF you continue to get these mouse jerks, rule out the possibility of any remote connection or spyware.

When I am typing in an address bar, google search, anything, the cursor will randomly move to the left at times and I'll end up typing things completely wrong. I first thought there was something wrong with my keyboard, or that the left arrow was pressed down but it isn't. This also occurs while watching youtube videos. I will play a video and all of a sudden it will rewind automatically in increments until it gets back to the start. Even when I start it again or fast forward it will still randomly rewind, making videos impossible to watch. Not only that but it happens when I highlight an item on my desktop or open "all programs" in my start menu. The highlight will move to the left, making it impossible to select items sometimes unless I click really fast so it doesn't move before I hit the item.

This doesn't happen all the time, but it does on a daily basis and it randomly sneaks up on me. I'll be 4 minutes into a youtube video and it will do it and rewind. Some days it doesn't do it at all.

I scan my computer daily with bitdefender and spybot. I'm running a Lenovo laptop with 1.8 dual core and 4gb ram that isn't even a year old. Any suggestions?

Answer:Cursor, everything, moves to the left - help?

I cant think of anything else than a keyboard problem. If i were in such a situation i would turn on my on screen keyboard and spy the situation, because when you type the on screen keyboard buttons "type" too. So if the left arrow is sometimes "pressing itself" youll notice that.

I am using a multi-monitor setup and one of the monitors is a Touch screen monitor. Whenever I press on it, it moves the cursor to that monitor, working as normal. However I would like to make it so it doesn't move the cursor over there when I press there or return the cursor to it's previous position after finishing a touch screen action. Is there a way to do this?
It is a Dell E157FPTe, using EloTouch, and shows up in hardware as a mouse device and not a touch input.
Edit: Just to clarify, the rest of the monitors I'm using are not touch screen monitors. It shows up as a separate mouse device in addition to my regular mouse.

Answer:Touchscreen moves cursor away from other monitors

Not likely. The touch screen overlay part is calibrated to that monitor so the cursor moves to exactly where your touching it. The X, Y coordinates.

So.. I'm not sure if I just recently started noticing this or what but, it's annoying.

Say I'm deleting stuff, I click the folder, hit the delete key. The "Are you sure" window pops up, my cursor automatically moves over the highlighted button (usually "OK"). How I can I turn this off? It does this on pretty much everything.

Answer:(W7) Cursor moves when a window opens

In control panel open Mouse, go to Pointer Options tab, uncheck 'Automatically move pointer to the default button in a dialogue box'.

I really don't know if this is a virus or not, but It's driving me NUTS!!!! My cursor starts to drift to the top right and stays there. I have to use the mini joystick in the middle of the keyboard in conjunction with the touchpad to be able to click on anything. Then, the cursor goes right back to the top right. Then, all of the sudden, it drifts across everything and sits on the bottom left, same deal with movement. I have ran a scan with Norton Client Security, and Spy Sweeper and do not have anything there. I am currently running panda activescan to see if anything shows up with it. I am about to run hijack this to post my results. I am new to this post and I have a good knowledge of computers, but this is killing me!!!

I have a Dell Inspiron 8200 laptop, 1.6 ghz P4, 768 mb RAM, windows XP home with SP2.

Any ideas? Thank you all so much for your attention...

Hi,

For about one week now, my laptop randomly moves the cursor on the screen and double clicks. So, applications run, windows open... A real mess.

This is not related to the mouse itself, it does the same with the mouse disconnected, with only the touchpad running. The strange point is that when an USB mouse is connected, I disable the touchpad.

The only changes I made in the days before it started is installing a windows 7 update and installing an evaluation version of Visual Studio 2010.

It seems that random mouse clicks is easy to find on Google... Anyone with similar concerns (and any solution...) ?

Answer:Random cursor moves and clicks

Make an antivirus full scan
Download and scan with malwarebytes, full scan. Be sure to update first.

I saw there was a previous thread and there are other posts like this on the web. Most of them are just problems using certain programs. Mine is on the whole computer. For Example. If I click an Icon on my desk top it quickly goes to the far lewft screen as though i was holding down the left arrow key. While typing text in any program IE, Firefox, MS Word the cursor keeps moving left back through the previously typed text. This makes it very very hard to try an reinstall software and such. PLEASE HELP!

A few of the Probook 450 G1 laptops that we have here at my organization have shown signs of touchpad issues. The touchpad will often be unresponsive and sparatic. If trying to click, for some reason this will type the letter s on whatever field is highlighted. We have noticed this issue on more than one of this model of laptop. Here is a very unprofessional video of the issue. During the video, you will see that the curser will jump left and right very often and randomly. I at one point I typed a few lines of "asdf" to ensure that the keyboard is working; it was working properly. However, you will see later in the video that when I click the touchpad, it automatically types a few letter s's.  I did not type those myself. A restart will fix the issue, and it may not even happen again for months on end. When it does happen, its very hard for users to get past it. Even saving their work is interupted by the keystrokes that are brought on by this issue.

the HD is a clone image of the original OS Vista HP SP2 toshiba L305-S5945. 4 gig Ram 64 bit

Its an off on problem. Currently off. ???
I was defragging and it froze when I tried to click on it. Then the cursor had no effect on the screen when I clicked. I restarted by using the start button. It did the same only worse. I did some startup scans and eventually had to use Ubuntu live disc to get on the machine where the cursor worked fine. I could not find a way to use the live disc to run scans on the HD.
I restarted several more time using the startup repair options short of full reload. It even froze trying to start in safe mode.
Finally it started in safe mode and I was able to do a disc cleaner which failed once then worked. I restarted normally and it was working. I used MWB and ADWCleaner. It worked ok fora while then froze up but this time when I started normally it worked again. I started a defrag again and left it on over night. It was frozen this morning and I shut down using the start button. It started and ran normally after. FF froze up once while watching Hulu and i had to restart the machine in the same forced way again.

IDK whats going on, its running "normally" right now. I have seen several posts about cursor and mouse problems since I got back online seeking help to diagnose this issue.

Any recomendations for a good clone software that doesn't require the user to register online? As I recall i did not like the other one because th... Read more

Answer:Cursor moves no effect when I click

You should test your HDD.
Go to Start/Search and type CMD, right click the CMD results and Run As Administrator. In the Elevated Command Prompt type chkdsk /R and press enter. Now type a Y for Yes and restart the computer. Check Disk will go through 5 stages, and will take a long time so do it overnight.
You can also download the ISO image for Seatools in my signature, and burn it to CD. Boot off of the newly created CD and Run the Short and Long diagnostic tests on the HDD. If either fails the HDD needs to be replaced.
