Lenovo Yoga 900 Black Screen

Question: Lenovo Yoga 900 Black Screen

Hello all, I have a Yoga 900-13isk that is having screen issues. The laptop will turn on and the backlight is on. However, the display will only work if apply pressure on the top of the screen gently. Does this mean I need a new display? It would be nice if there was an easier solution than having to spend $350. I am able to log into my computer and do anything I want, I just have to push down on the top of the screen.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi guys, My name is Lim. I have upgraded my Yoga 3 to Windows 10 months back. Now with the recent update of Windows 10 (so called Service Pack) I have been encountering a black screen everytime I boot into the Lock Screen but everything is running. I would have to close my lid and open it again to be able to see the lock screen image and the sign in screen. If I restart after successfully login in, then the black screen does not appearing anymore. But if I shutdown the Yoga for a few hours or more then the black screen reappears. Has anyone else encountered this issue? Is it a driver conflict issue? I'm unsure as I have reinstalled some of the drivers especially the Intel HD driver but this still happens. Thanks in advanced.Lim.

As it says in the subject: my laptop screen keeps going dark for a second or two while in use (and plugged in). It's not going to sleep or shutting down; any music playing doesn't cut out, and when the black screen goes away I'm still logged in and my programs are all up and running as they were before the flicker. Last night while running on battery, it shut down on 18% power and wouldn't switch back on for almost an hour, even while plugged in. I don't know if that was the start of the problem; the black flicker started happening today. I think it's happened three or four times today. I only bought the computer three months ago and it's definitely not experienced any knocking around or anything.  Can anyone tell me what's wrong and how to fix it?

Answer:Lenovo yoga 211 black screen

Hi Farazd5292 ,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

How was the display connecting it on the external monitor?
Is the display dim even on the BIOS screen?

Dim screen in BIOS with external monitor ok isolates the issue to the LCD panel lightning.
Call in technical support for hardware issue specially if the display goes out along with the Power LED.

Hope this help answer your query.
Update us how it goes.

Hello DennyLarsonThanks for using the Lenovo forums.Sounds like something may have potentially got fried perhaps.

Try a static discharge for this, it may help to resolve the issue or at least get rid of any built up static on the motherboard.(If the battery is internal, please just skip the remove/replace battery steps.)1. Turn the unit off2. Remove the battery and the Mains adapter3. Press and hold the front power button for 30 seconds4. Replace the battery and the Mains adapter5. Turn the unit on as normal
If these steps do not work I would recommend, that you call your local Lenovo support line for a possible service. Below is the link to the phone list where you can find these numbers

Hope this helps, let us know how you get on.==================================================================================Did someone help you today? Thank them with a Kudo! If you find a post helpful and it answers your question, please mark it as an "Accepted Solution"!

Hello everyone,Recently, I got a Lenovo yoga 14(with Nvidia Geforce 940m and intel(R) HD Graphics 5500) on windows 10. I have one problem with it which is the screen flickers on and off if I have software such as store, bing news, google chrome and microsoft word open on maximised screen. I've tried turning down the resolution, turning of panel self-refresh and updating the video drivers, but it didn't work. Also I've noticed that when the screen is flickering the mouse moves back to the centre of the screen. Instead of pushing the maximised button, if I drag the borders of the software window and make it full screen, it doesn't flicker at all. Some advice would be much appreaciated, Roger

YOGA 900-13ISK2 SEPN: 80UEBIOS: 2UCN6WW16 GB RAM / I7-6560 / WIN 10 x64 Home    I got my new Yoga 900 few weeks ago and ever since it's been randomly freezing. The laptop is with this problem from day one and without any additional software installed. There's no error message or anything, it just freeze or flickering and than freezes completely without a BSOD and the only way to use it again is to shut it off and turn it back on. The freeze looks strange: black screen, any sounds playing would either stop or repeat indefinitely and the fan noise high. The LED backlight is on, but completely black display. I had to shut down my computer by pressing the power key and then restarting again. There is no clear error massage in Event log: ?Audit events have been dropped by the transport. 0? and ?Unexpected shutdown?. For some reason, it's much more frequent on battery power and almost non-existant on AC power and High Performance Power Options. But whit this solution the battery life is highly impacted and the fan noise is high, which makes no sense for this notebook class!!!!Action taken:Windows 10 Home ? Hello all, Whenever my fingers are on the keyboard, touchpad, screen, or surface of the keyboard, the screen blacks out completely. Every time light pressure is added, even a gentle tap, the screen blacks out. Music continues to play on the laptop even when the screen is black, and if I'm typing, all of the text that I entered while the screen is black remains. Occasionally, by applying pressure to either the bottom left or right corners of the keyboard surface, the screen remains. But even so, slight changes to my hand positions are enough to make the screen black out again.I recently sent in my laptop to Lenovo repair services due to a wifi connection-related problem, but I don't think this could be connected in any way. If anyone has experienced this before or is aware of how to fix the problem, it would be much appreciated. Thank you!

Hi, Lenovo Support,

My Lenovo Yoga 13 was bought in May this year.

The screen stays black untill I plug in the power adapter.

If on batery only, even counting with up to 90% of power, the screen stays black (important to note that the power button is lightened up, I can also hear some parts of the machine working).

The only way to use the computer is pluging in the power adapter, once I plug it in the screen turn on instantanealy. Otherwise it keeps black.

I've reset the computer pressing the power button for 20 min and the problems is still happening.

It is urgent. It is my only computer.

What do I do?

Answer:Lenovo Yoga - Black screen when on battery

Dear rparreiras,

Welcome to Lenovo Community,

The Problem happens because in the power plan the brightness is at 0% on battery, and in the Yoga 13 with the brightness is at 0%, the screen goes OFF.

So you need to press on (Windows Button + X) and choose (Power Options) and go to each plan that you have and click on (Change Plan Settings) and make the brightness to 100 % in both battery and plugged in then save changes.

Please try this solution and if the problem still exists, just let me know.

My lenovo Yoga 2 went into the black screen of death (cursor moving and visible but not able to do anything) about ten seconds after I got a warning saying my memory was low. I tried rebooting it to Safety Mode by holding down the power button until it turned off, then powering up while holding Shift+F8. It showed the lenovo logo, but then went back to black, and when I tried it a second time nothing happened. I don't have the ability to take the battery out, so I've now unplugged it and have devices hooked up to the USBs and charging to drain the battery--I've read that's one way to do it. How do I fix this??

So I recently came to South Korea to teach and my computer was working fine. i have two lenovo yoga series computer, one being the 2 and one being the 3 pro. The 3 pro I literally have used maybe 12 times. I bought it a while back but it was not convenient for the size at that time so I kept using my smaller once. So it is pretty much brand new. It booted up, it was charged, I was able to log on, then suddenly it went black and I have not been able to get a screen since then. I've never dropped it, I've barely put anything on it, it was working fine two days beforehand, then boom, nothing. I can't hear the fan going on it either, but then again, I never really noticed a fan noise in the beginning, either. I let it die on its own hoping maybe that would work.I charged it fully as well.I tried the 'press the power button so-and-so times for this' to try to hard-restart or something of the like.I know I have power because the light comes on, and I am able to make the lighting behind the keyboard come on and off. The screen is the only problem at this point. Since I just moved to Korea, I am obviously not fluent. I had my coteacher call Lenovo Korea for me and they said my computer wasn't covered under Korean Warranty, but from what I read it is. It doesn't end until January of 2017 either. So I'm at a loss. I can't speak fluent Korean so I can't call myself, and I can't put in for a callback. I may have my parents call the USA number, but then I'd have to ship... Read more

Hello Kitsumiya,I guess I also had this problem on my lenovo yoga 3-1470 before, but I am not so sure about it. There was once when I power on my lenovo yoga 3-1470, it went black screen, and I thought my lenovo yoga 3-1470 screen has spoilt. I tried restarting the system over and over by pressing the power on button. But when I put the screen under the light, I could see a very faint message box, asking me to restart. My lenovo yoga 3-1470 was touch-screen, hence I touch restart, and the screen came back normal again. This is not the solution to your problem, but I am just enquring on whether are you facing the same problem as me. If it persists, I guess you would have to send it for fixing, or look around for other solutions.  Regards, Federick

Answer:Lenovo Yoga 2 Pro black and flickering screen

That periodical 5 - 30 seconds black flickering screen has tormented me on my Y2P ever since I upgraded to Windows 10. Just today in a Yoga 2 Pro tips discussion I read that the solution may be to disable Panel Self-Refresh in the Intel HD Graphics Control Panel (Power -> On Battery). Too soon for me to tell if it works but I have my fingers crossed.

Hi, I am join the Lenovo forums to seek assitance with an issue with my Thinkpad Yoga 14. I recently purchased the notenook from Best Buy and it has been great.  But there's an intermitten issue with the screen going black. My theory was that the ambient light sensor is what tells the laptop it's closed, and it was getting obscured, causing my screen to turn off. This issue occurs when I am using it in tablet mode and during the process of the folding the screen back. The screen is fine in laptop mode, unless I adjust the angle of the screen.  So it seems every time I place my hand on the screen to draw, or fold the hinge, the screen will turn black. I have taken the following steps:-Updated Windows and all my Lenovo Apps.-Changing power options to 'Do Nothing' when lid closes.  Does anyone else have this issue? I am hoping this is not a hardware issue   Thanks everyone.

My Yoga had a black line appearing on the screen and it was replaced by Lenovo. Now the same problem has appeared again. The line is thick and black appearing 3/4 into the width of the screen. Occassionally it is strippy white. On some occassions a little tap can make it go away (but not much anymore) and rarely after the laptop has been on for some time the line will dissapear. Any help would be appreciated. Is this likely the screen, the power unit or what?

I purchased the Yoga 13 about a month ago, and today I tried turning it on but the screen turns black. However, I can still see the mouse and move it around, there's just nothing else I can do. I have tried F12, but the screen is on maximum brightness. I can turn it off and on through F9. Both the power and battery light are blinking, even when the laptop isn't plugged into AC. When I tried doing a forced shut down the power light blinks on and off, and I'm pretty sure the laptop just goes into sleep mode or something because when I press the power button again it goes straight to the black screen with the mouse.

Hello, last thursday I got my brand new Lenovo laptop Yoga 710-15IKB. Everything went smoothly with the setup and the computer looked great was working fine. When I finished setting up some essential programs browser etc, and was watching a youtube video my laptop just froze, fan was running but the screen keyboard cursor frozen. I thought nothing of it and restarted my computer and nothing happened after that. So I thought I was free to enjoy my good looking device. But now after my third usage I closed my laptop and went out to run some errands I came back an hour later or so and tried to open my computer and keep on using it but to my surprise the screen stayed black. Completely black, no flickering or anything. So i tried to reboot it by holding the start button down for 10s giving the computer a minute or so to rest then turned it back on. Same thing happens Keyboard lights up for a second or two then the fans just keep running and the screen stays completely black. This is extremely frustrating since this is a brand new computer and I desperately need it for studying and work. Screen black, computer starts and runs I can hear the fans keyboard lights up at first but screen is completely black. I would appreciate a quick response Lenovo, I had so high hopes for my new laptop. Best regards, Elisabet.

I just purchased my laptop about a month ago and when in normal use starting from log in the screen starts to flicker constantly and the screen would also black out here and there. When I boot it in safe mode everything runs fine and the screen doesn't flicker or black out so I'm guessing that it's a graphic driver issue and not a hardware?  I've updated everything in Windows 10.. the drivers are also all updated (Intel HD Graphic 620 and Nvidia Geforce 940MX). I've also tried uninstalling all the drivers and reinstalling them. I've disabled Problem Reports and Solution Control Panel Support & Windows Error Report Service from services in Task Manager. I've tried everything you can think of but can't find a solution!!! IdeaPad Yoga 11S, Factory ID: JVHFC1, Part No: 59292852, Model: 20248, O/S: Windows 8.1 Whenever I plug in the poweradapter, the screen goes dark and will not come back until I unplug the power adapter. This happens anytime, whetherthe battery is fully charged or low. The power adapter charges the battery to full charge so the adapter appears towork. This problem started happening only in the last month. Have had this computer for 2 years. This prevents mefrom using the computer when the battery is low because plugging in the power adapter shuts down the display. Anyone know what is causing this problem?  Thanks in advance for any new info.

I have been using a Lenovo Yoga 2 Pro for just over a year. I use it at work with an external monitor which I connect via a micro-HDMI to VGA adapter. There are several times during the day that the screen on the external montior would flicker, and the connection would be lost. I would usually just reconnect the display and the external monitor would display again.  A few days ago (4 days after the warranty expired), while connected to the external display, the monitor on my Yoga went completely black. Now it won't come back on. Sometimes on startup I can see a very faint "Lenovo" logo, but that quickly goes away. I know the computer is still on because the windows logo still vibrates on the screen when touched. Anyway, does anybody know what could be causing this and how to fix it? I took it to my local Microsoft store and they said that I should replace the motherboard, but I got a feeling they didn't really know what was going on with it. I have not had any problems with this computer until now and it would be a shame if the motherboard is indeed the problem. I have really liked the computer but don't think I would buy another lenovo if I had to replace the motherboard. I have never dropped or significantly damaged it. Any help would be appreciated.

Answer:Lenovo Yoga 2 screen went black while on external monitor and won't come back on

hi smalley3,

Welcome to the Forums.

The flickering issue maybe due to a bad LCD cable or in some cases, a faulty GPU (the GPU is integrated to the CPU, and the CPU is soldered to the motherboard).

If there's still no image on the screen even after connecting an external display then you likely have a bad GPU.

In this case, I recommend you contact support for service (and also to see if there's a consideration that can be done on the warranty repair).

Bought a Lenovo YOGA 700-15ISK two weeks ago. Setup went well. Then managed to install e.g. Steam as well yesterday and left the laptop on (connected to the power cord). When I this morning tried to revive it from (what I though to be) SLEEP mode, nothing happens: screen is black. I then press POWER button a long time, turning the computer off. After pressing the POWER button again, the POWER button lights up and the keyboard blinks red (as it should, I guess), but then nothing more: screen remains black. And no sound from fans, etc. Trying by pressing the NOVA button (that little hole on the left side of the laptop, using a pin) yields the same result. Both the power connection and power diods at the front are lit, and when shutting down laptop by pressing POWER button for a long time, the power connection diod is still lit (although it was unlit before). What is happening here, and what could be the problem?

Answer:Lenovo YOGA 700-15ISK - doesn't start (screen stays black)

EDIT: Also tried to connect to external screen through HDMI, black there as well (got another laptop working so the HDMI connection cable is all fine). Just seems dead, or at least doesn't really start after the first initialization.

Just a heads-up: I bought this Lenovo Yoga 13 Ideapad in 2013, so it's out of warranty. Proceed to read my problem..... I always get a black screen whenever I shut off my laptop and turn it back on again, which is why I lock my laptop instead. But when I DO lock it and get back on it the next morning, I encounter the Black screen of death and instead of my lockscreen immediately appearing like normal after I lock it and have left it overnight & try to get on it, I have to shut down my laptop and turn it back on because my laptop won't immedately take me to the lock screen so I can log into my computer.  Today (March 17, 2017), I had to shut down and turn on my laptop while pressing the rotation button button or the OneKey Recovery button (the button with a circle and a line going through it; I don't know exactly what it's called, but I think it's the recovery button OR the screen rotation button, on the right hand side of the computer: If anyone knows the name of this button, please let me know!)..I tried this 5 times and It wouldn't turn on. The 6th time pressing the Recovery button OR the screen rotation button on the right side of the laptop (whatever it's called), it did work and now I'm on my laptop typing like normal. But this Lenovo Yoga Ideapad 13 only works when it wants to. Is there any proven fix to this hardware issue? I was told that it was a motherboad issue, but what's the real culprit? And is the motherboard what's actually giving me th... Read more

Hi all,First post!  My Dad's Lenovo laptop goes to a black screen when starting up, so is unusable.I haven't seen it in the flesh yet but have started to research things for him and have found that 'black screen' shows up quite a lot for Windows 10 and Lenovo PCs! We were so impressed with my Dad's PC I've ended up with the same model myself:Lenovo YOGA 500 Convertible Laptop, Intel Core i7, 8GB RAM, 256GB SSD, 15.6" Touch Screen. Also labelled as: Yoga 500-15IBD Laptop (ideapad)  I see some people mentioning hardware failures and others device driver problems with the graphic card etc. but haven't read a definite cause/fix for this so far. I've just found this recent critical BIOS update for this PC which mentions the black screen problem:Software name: BDCN63WW Version 63[Important updates] Fix Win 10 lid close black screen issue.http://support.lenovo.com/gb/en/products/Laptops-and-netbooks/Yoga-Series/yoga-500-15ibd/downloads/D...I haven't seen this mentioned in the forums? Has anyone else used this?If the PC always boots to a black screen I'll obviously have trouble installing this! I'm hoping that it will boot in Safe Mode or I'm going to have some trouble installing it?! I don't know whether to install the BIOS update on my own machine which is running fine - I think I'll wait until I see my Dad's laptop first which will be in a few weeks. Has anyone had any experience of this BIOS update or other comments on this?Thanks. &nb... Answer:Yoga 500 'BLACK SCREEN' - BIOS update: "[Important updates] Fix Win 10 lid close black screen issue"

I'm still wondering about this... I've just updated the Lenovo Companion after seeing it mentioned in another thread. It looks like this s/w is supposed to scan the PC and recommend Lenovo updates - critical and nice to have ones. Initially the Companion was showing a critical update for Lenovo SHAREit and a recommended one for my BIOS. It says I'm currently on BDCN28WW and offered something like v61 and not the 63 I mentioned in my first post? After letting it update SHAREit and re-scanning the BIOS update is no longer being offered and still shows me on v28 ??? I'm not sure I trust this 'Companion' app!My laptop seems to be running fine so I don't want to break it updating the BIOS if it's not required. For all I know my Dad's broken one may be broken because it upgraded?! Does anyone else use/trust the Companion app?And has anyone else seen it change it's mind on recommended BIOS updates? Thanks.

I recently did a Windows 10 update to my Lenovo Yoge Ideapad  11 S on July 16th and now my touch screen does not work. When I check the drivers for my monitor and touch screen I noticed the driver was missing. I cannot get Lenovo or Microsoft to fix this. What else can I do to get that driver back ?

Answer:Lenovo Yoga Idea Pad Yoga 11 S touch screen issue

Hello Dws520Thanks for using the Lenovo forums. Was this the creators update?
If so, have a look on the following post, this should show if your device has been tested with the update yet:
https://support.lenovo.com/gb/en/solutions/ht503655

From what I can see, your unit does not seems to have made the list, which leads me to believe that this will be the cause of the issue, I would recommend that you revert back to the previous version of Windows, and observe if the fault still occurs or not.

Hope this helps, let us know how you get on.==================================================================================Did someone help you today? Thank them with a Kudo! If you find a post helpful and it answers your question, please mark it as an "Accepted Solution"!

The problem started after the installation of the latest update of windows 10. While working on the pc the screen goes suddenly black but the power is still on. The only way to light again the screen is to switch the power off by pressing the button for 10sec so as to open the windows again. The laptop (Yoga 500-15ISK Laptop (ideapad) is brand new, 10 days in use. Also, the battery shows me a message "The adapter cannot support your computer fully and should be replaced as soon as possible". Does the laptop need replaced or are they any practical solutions that can be fixed by me?  my laptop's specifications :Processor: Inter(R) Core(TM) i5-6200 CPU @ 2.30GHz 2.40 GHzRAM: 4.00GB System Type: 4-bit Operating System, x64-based processor

Thanks in advance for any help.  I desperately need help or tips.  I own a Lenovo laptop [Lenovo - Yoga 2 2-in-1 13.3" Touch-Screen Laptop - Intel Core i5 - 8GB Memory - 128GB Solid State Drive - Black] .  Two days ago, it turned black and I have done all Lenovo suggests and it is still dead.   What it does is that it turns on for 1 or 2 seconds ( The keyboard lights up and the fan spins ), then it turns itself off.  Regardless what I do, it does the same thing. I have done the following things and none of them works.  It just shuts itself off regardless: 1. Take the battery out and hold the power key for 30 seconds and then reboot.2. Start the computer with the one-key recovery button.3. Hold the power key down for 30 seconds and then hold down Shift + F8 Key. Then release power key.4. Try to start with F1 key to got to Bios ( no luck ).5. Use a micro HDMI port to connect to an external monitor and reboot.6. Disconnet SSD both or one at a time and then reboot.7. Clean the internal fan, board, keyboard ... etc and then reboot. I believe that it has something to do with Windows Anniversary Update.   Currently it has Windows 10 on it.  I am not sure what the machine is doing.  It always has a black screen.   The funny thing is that I took both SSD cards out and it has a black screen.  I think that most PCs will say something like 'No bootable device' or at least let you see the dos screen ... Answer:Lenovo Yoga 500 - black marks on hinges

Welcome to the Lenovo Community !

Sorry to hear of your problem.  Can you post a picture or two?  Since you only have one posting here you might have to post the images to a photo website and copy the links here.

Does the black mark wipe off?  If it does and it's oily then it might be a lubricant that was used on the hinge during manufacture.  If it's a dry powdery residue then it might be dust from hinge wear.  I'm not an owner of your model, but on some laptop hinges there are black spacers in the hinge assembly.

Hi,

I've got Lenovo Yoga 510 IKB. Sometimes (especially when I just turn the notebook on) it is possible to make the screen black by lowering the brightness. But sometimes it is not possible, I can only lower the brightness to zero, but not to make it black. Is it possible to adjust this somehow?

Thanks for your help

Answer:Lenovo Yoga 910 wont load pass the Lenovo screen.

Try getting into BIOS first and loading default settings. To do this, press the small "Novo" button (you'll need a paperclip for this), and select "BIOS setup". From there, use the arrow keys to get to the "exit" tab and select load default settings.

If this doesn't work, let me know.

Hi There! I am owning a Lenovo Yoga 2 Pro and have been trying to connect it to different external monitors in the past, almost always experiencing issues with the screen fading black after some seconds. This time I am connecting a Samsung S22D300HY to my Yoga 2 Pro via a VGA wire + a VGA to Micro-HDMI wire. After connecting, the external screen works accordingly for a couple of seconds and then turns black after the word "Analog" pops up. My roommate also has a Yoga 2 Pro and when we were testing the same external monitor with his Yoga 2 Pro, everything worked accordingly. I have been trying to find a solution for this problem for months now and could not find anything that would help. I updated the BIOS, cut the wire so it can be plugged deeper, but still am facing the problem. If anyone of you knows a possible solution, I would be very happy to hear it. Working with an external monitor is crucial to me and I would be so relieved if I could fix this. All the best,sp4nki

Answer:External monitor turns black after seconds on Lenovo Yoga 2 Pro

No Solution?  I now bought an extra VGA to USB adapter. The external monitor now shows an image, but in 800x600 resolution, which is total crap. I'd be soooo happy if there would be a way to fix this..

I have a Lenovo Yoga 13 that is out of warranty. I bought it in 2013.  With that out o' the way, my Lenovo Yoga 13's screen stays black even when the power is on...I see no Lenovo logo or anything AND the laptop keeps restarting on its own, so it is stuck in restart mode, with the screen staying black the whole time.  This laptop has been doing this (black screen even though power is on and shuts off and restarts on its own) for about 6 months now....(Jan 2017-June 3, 2017 as of this writing). This laptop works WHEN IT WANTS TO EVERY ONCE IN AWHILE, BUT NOT OFTEN.  I turned the laptop on now, and I'm typing on it now, **BUT when it doesn't work, which is most of the time**, it shows a black screen (I see nothing on the screen) even with the power on and constantly restarts on its own. Is this hardware issue a motherboard problem or a screen issue specifically? Specifically, is it the motherboard that needs to be fixed on this Yoga 13 or is it a screen issue? If it's a motherboard issue that needs to be fixed, how much would it cost? Or If it's a screen issue, how much would that cost to fix? Any help on this is much needed!

Answer:**Yoga 13: Laptop screen stays black when power is ON, & fan makes noise, but nothing on screen**

Hello Complex1Thanks for using the Lenovo forums.

Sounds like this will be an issue with the HDD or MOBO instead of the Display I believe.
Try running an LSC scan, it may be able to detect a hardware issue on the unit.
1. Please click on the following link2. Under the section ?Download? select the relevant Hyperlink dependant on whether your Lenovo is running Windows 7/8/8.1 32 bit or 64 bit. 3. When prompted, select save and browse to a drive and directory in which to save the downloaded files. 4. Navigate to the folder where you saved the installation file, lscsetup_x86_26001.exe. 5. Double-click the installation file icon to start the installation. 6. Follow the onscreen instructions via the installation wizard that will install Lenovo Solution Centre on your system. 7. Once installed you will have a ?Lenovo Solution Centre? icon on your desktop please click to open this. 8. Once solution center is opened please select ?Checkup? then ?Hardware Scan? and ?Full Scan? 9. This will take up to 20 minutes, see if this can find any errors.
Not exactly sure about prices, you can try to check individual part prices on something like serviceshop:

It might give you an idea of the prices.

My Lenovo Y410 screen goes black at boot, I never see anything other than a faint dim light on the monitor, like what you would see under normal circumstances until the OS started.   I can hear the pc turn on, I can type in my password, even without seeing where it goes, and the pc actually starts fine, I just can't see anything.   Anyone who can help me with this?

Answer:Lenovo Y410 Screen goes black and stays black at startup

Have you tried hooking up an external monitor? Then press (I think) Fn+F3 to toggle between ext. and lcd. This sounds like it MAY be a problem withe the lcd inverter.Very dim screen? You can just barely see images? If so, the inverter can be replaced, or the whole lcd may need replacement. If you have warranty, use it! If not, inverter can be replaced yourself, if you have patience and are careful. Search web for "replace lcd inverter"Here is one good site, different laptop, but you can see the basic steps.

I'm having a wierd issue on my Yoga 3 Pro.  First it has been upgraded to Win 10.  Now recently, when I try to watch a video, either one I have (avi, mkv, etc) in the Movies & TV app, if I make it full screen, I have a good picture for 5-10 seconds, and then it goes black.  VLC does not do this.  I get the same result in the Netflix app as well as if I log into netflix.com through the edge browser and watch a video full screen.  This does not happen in Chrome.

Its a hardware problem of some description. A technician would need to assess it. If its not even getting close to the boot process.Call Lenovo Tech Support who may advise you on something.

Recently i bought a Lenovo y500 laptop with 12 ram and 16gigs of SSD. It came with Windows 8 by deffault and what i wanted was to install Linux Ubuntu 12.04 alognside with the Windows 8. It didn't work out, because i could only log into linux. When i tried to log in in Widonws it said: "unknown command drivemap      invalid EFI file path, so i used the one key recovery. It loaded Windows but i noticed 2 things:1st. After loading the Lenovo logo the screen turns black without the cursor on it and stays that way for about 17-25 sec. That means that from 20 sec boot time now it is 40+.How could i fix that one?2nd. After creating the backup i divided the 1tb disk into smaller discs and after the rocovery they were the way i left them with all the games and media on them. I thought that the one key recovery would undo the partiton i have made. The 2nd one isnt bugging me out so much but the 20 secs extra boot time do. The changes i have made in bios are disabling secure boot and switching boot mode from UEFI to legacy. After that i switched secure boot to enabled and the boot mode to UEFI as it was in the beginning.

Answer:Lenovo y500 black screen after the lenovo logo slows down boot time

hi psskobraa,

Welcome to the Lenovo Forums.

Regarding your questions:
1. The additional 17-25sec boot time is probably caused by the UEFI Firmware / UEFI boot loader (see this flowchart) - this probably got modified when you installed Ubuntu. Can you try to boot back into the BIOS, press F9 to load default settings then press F10 to save It settings. If this doesn't work, is the boot time the same when Disabling Secure Boot and UEFI set to Disabled/Legacy first?

2. OneKey Recovery usually reimage the OS partition only (i.e. C:\) and will not affect any other partitions (i.e. D:\)

Best regards,

To make a long story short, I've been asked to help fix a friends mom's U410 laptop which wasnt activiting Windows 8.1 properly (Was Windows 8 OOB). After struggling with the activation for a few hours, I backed up the data and decided to just run the Lenovo one key recovery. During the recovery process, the installation had failed. When I attemped to reboot, no Lenovo splash screen was loading - just a black screen (although i can hear the cooling fan start, and hear the harddrive spin up. I tried to access the boot menu thru the novo button, and nothing would load; still a black screen. After researching for a few more hours, I had found multiple threads about bios updates required to be able to access bios with windows 8, and other threads about gpus on these units booting to a second screen (which i did test, and the second monitor does indicate a signal). None of the solutions on those threads have given positive results.   Basically, I've run out of options and am looking for some suggestions. The only thing that shows up on the display at anytime is the small blue novo menu when the button is pressed (normal start up, bios setup, boot menu, system recovery - all of which just leave a black screen). Thanks.

I just bought this laptop for about 1 month, the laptop work fine before. But after...I don't know maybe after the windows update, the driver make the screen flickering and some dots appear on the screen, sometimes the screen lagging and went black. I'm pretty sure it's because of the driver because if I disable it, everything is fine, but that is just a temporary fix, every games is unplayable when I disable the driver. I tried to reinstall it using driver from Intel, Windows, Lenovo but none of them work(newest)

So my Yoga 2 started having this problem about after I downloaded windows 10, at random times when I was using my laptop the screen would flicker but then go back to normal. But about two days ago when I turned on the laptop the display is completely black. My computer will turn on and the bios will run but then when it is suppose to come in the log in screen a black screen just comes up and I am not able to do anything. The backlight is on but nothing comes on the display. I looked through bios to try and see if there was something I could do but i dont really want to mess around in there with things I dont understand. I am not tech savvy so I really have no idea to go about this. Please help!

Hello everyone! I have a one week old Yoga 910 model 80VF. Two days ago I noticed an issue. I guess the best way to explain it is the screen doesn't turn on. I power the laptop on, the keyborad lights up but the screeen stays off (no backlight). I have to put the lid down, the laptop goes to sleep and then open it up so the screen turns on and I can login. This doesn't happen everytime I turn the laptop on. I have downloaded all of the updates from lenovo.com and Microsoft. I also run diagnostic checks with no problems. Any help is appreciated. Thank you

My Yoga 2 Pro is black screening on start up. Running Windows 8.1. On startup, the keyboard lights up, switches off and nothing on the screen - not even the Lenovo logo. Have tried one key recovery, still nothing. Also tried an external monitor and nothing on that either. Strange thing is that this first happened yesterday, and after a few restarts it suddenly started working. Put my machine to sleep, then this morning, same problem! Please, please help if you can - my only machine and need it for work - I'll be in a bad way if I have to send it in for repair.

Help, mayday or what you want !!!! LENOVO YOGA 13, Core I5, bought 23/03/2013.... When I press the power button, the power light and the capslock-lights light up and the fan starts, but nothing more : The screen stays black the entire time.If I run the YOGA only on battery or on AC the problem remains the same...Of course, I hold the power button down for 10 sec to force a full shutdown and then I press it again to startup. Always black screen... I have tried the recovery key method a couple of times without success. Nothing appears, black screen, always...I gently press all the touchs, like F12 or others... But nothing...Before this problem, I did nothing special. I did not use the YOGA that has remained plugged in for 3 days. How to work, especially since I have a lot of data on this computer ? I am very disappointed, especially since I have spoken positively of the YOGA 13 on many French websites...

Starting with the recent Intel 520 display driver update (version 2019.15.4444 and perhaps earlier), I am seeing a problem where disconnecting from teh OneLink+ dock will result on a black screen on the Yoga. Reconnecting it works fine again. A reboot is required (with dock disconnected) to have the laptop display work standalone. I also see random black screens when resuming from sleep. When this happens, I tend to see some popups with display driver failure. I don't know if this is related to the display driver plus running Win10 redstone 1 builds (Insider Fast ring) or if this happens on the shipping version of TH2. Anyone else experiencing this or have a workaround?

Tried to do a bios update.  The 900 rebooted to run the update but the screen stayed black.  Subsequent boots are the same.  With the power or nova buttons pushed the keyboard lights briefly and the fans spin then stop then it just sits with the power button light on.  Black screen.  I checked the brightness and lcd on/off buttons. I opened the bottom and disconncted the battery and tried holding the power button for 60 sec then plugging in the AC adapter and hitting the power or nova buttons.  Also tried pusimg and holding the power button five times five seconds then plugging in AC.  No combo of button holding mojo has worked. Is there a way to reset the bios on this thing?

I have a Lenovo 3000 N100 laptop for the past two years.Apart from the famous battery issue with this laptop, I have not had any problems with this unit. Since yesterday, I am getting a black screen after logon to Windows XP.Yesterday, I was able to log on and then the laptop will go black after a minute or two after log on. Today, it has gotten worse, as soon as the Windows XP logo comes on, the screen goes black after a fewseconds. I also noticed that the Lenovo Icon displayed during Power On is also Teal in Color. I tried booting the laptop in Safe mode and the problem still remains.I tried booting the laptop using Windows XP CD and try to repair the Windows XP installation using R optionand still the screen goes black.  Please advice if this is a hardware or software or virus issue.

Hi there.  I have the same problem.  My screen is black all the time now with odd spurts of light occuring just after loading. My laptop is sadly out of guarantee so I cannot get any telephone help from IBM, however the chap I spoke to did hint that it was a problem with the LCD cable. Then I phoned my local PC repair man and he said it sounds like the bulb, because I can still faintly see the outline of whats on the screen through the "blackness". So.  Not sure! Have you come to any resolution yet?  Meantime I have my laptop pluggged into an external monitor until I get it fixed.  Susan

I received my Lenovo Yoga 3 14 yesterday.  Everything seems to be working great with the exception of the touch screen.  The far left side works well (about two inches worth) then a large dead spot from top to bottom to the far right.  The right one inch works as well.  What could be causing this and is there anything I can do to fix it?  Firmware or is it just the screen itself? Any tips or ideas would be greatly apprecaited.  I am very disappointed.

Answer:Lenovo Yoga 3 14 80JH-00LNUS Touch Screen Dead Spot (Half Screen)

Yes, same problem here. It gets worse: random ghost touches (hands nowhere near the screen) and dead spots in random places. 2 long phone calls to UK help centre - they seem to be unaware of these issues. Re-installed several drivers but hard to see any improvement as these glitches appear randomly. Not sure if anyone who has any power actually looks at these threads.

Hello, I upgraded my laptop to Windows 8.1 and since then I cannot connect to an external projector or monitor for presenting.  This does not work with HDMI or USB.  On the Intel HD Graphics 4000 display adapter I have a message of "error code (43)".  I have searched and all indication is I have the correct drivers.  I have tried to find any work around and have none.  The Intel pages all list that they have not resolved this issue. Is anyone aware of a way to resolve this issue?  Any work arounds? Thank you!

Hi, When I boot up my Yoga 2 Pro it goes straight to a black screen with just the cursor pointer on it and nothing else and just hangs.  This happens 50%-75% of the time I boot my machine which is about once a day.  Sometimes I get the Lenovo logo and the spining balls in a circle for a few seconds and then onto the black screen.  My current remedy it to hold down the power button for about 10 second and reboot.  This cycle can happen two or three times before the pc actually boots. I am really concerned as a friend of mine had the same issue and then one day, two weeks ago, the pc simply wouldn't boot at all. I haven't upgrade to Windows 10 yet, might that solve the issue? Any advice greatly apprciated. James.

Hi, My Yoga crashed yesterday after discarding some changes before exiting my bios and now it won't boot. The keyboard lights up but the display won't. After browsing the forum I've learned that it might be possible to boot in some form of recovery by pressing FN+R and reflashing the bios from a memory stick.  https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/Lenovo-U-and-S-Series-Notebooks/Bios-Recovery-For-ideapad-laptops/td-p/... The guide talks about a .wph file but I can't unpack the bios exe on my desktop because , well, it's not the corect mainboard.  Can someone please extract this bios http://support.lenovo.com/downloads/ds035004 and upload the resulting files? Thank you.

Hello everybody,  I found a few topics on this already but none have helped so far so as  last resort I'll ask here what might be my options: I have a Yoga 2 Pro that is out of warranty.  It's not mine so I don't know exactly what happend but this is the story I got was this: The person was using it out on his porch.  It was sunny but not hot where it can overheat.  He got a black screen and decided to plug in hdmi to his TV.  It worked and he tried to do a system restore to a previous date.  Problem is he picked a system point before upgrading to Windows 10 so it tried to go back to Windows 8.1.  After that he said even the video to the TV didn't work. Now the computer turns on, keyboard lights up but I can't get ANY kind of video neither on the screen or via HDMI out.  I've tried everything I can think of like pulling the battery out and the CMOS battery for over 24 hours (including draining extra power). At this point before I tell him it's a motherboard issue, is there anything I can do other than that?  It seems odd that a motherboard might die from a Windows system restore.  The SSD is fine and working. Note: At one point while turning it off and on, I did get the BIOS to show up on the laptop screen for less than a second but I never got that lucky again.  Thanks for any suggestions.

Hi, This morning my screen was black (but not off, the backlight works) and when I turn it on the screen works for about a second before it goes black again. I can use an external monitor. I have updated as much as I can, all drivers should be updated, and I ran a system check with Lenovo companion, nothing was found. I can't seem to safe mode to work on the external monitor.Yesterday I updated Windows 10 (Cumulative update, KB3176938). Can anyone help?

My new X1 Yoga (less tha one month old), is connected to a OneLink+ dock to drive two external monitors.  At first, everything worked well together (for a bout one week).  Now, if I disconnect the dock, the X1 screen goe black and will not return unless I press/hold the power button to hard reboot, or I reconnect to the dock. The whole point of the dock is to be able to connect to/disconnect from other resource slike monitors and keybaords easily.  Anyone know of a solution to this issue.

After reading through dreaded black screen issue for other models, I am checking if the Thinkpad Yoga also has the black screen issue. Given that this happened barely inside a month after the warranty expired, this has solid changes to be the last lenovo product in the family. Issue: I returned one home from work to wake up my sleeping Lenovo. Noticed it seemed to be in a dark screen mode with nothing showing up. So tried to press a few buttons and then finally powered off using the button. Upon restart, I could see the Lenovo sign and option to press Enter to check other options and I ignored like usual happy path scenario and let it go. At the time it usually starts showing the Windows screens, I see nothing happen. A dark screen with all the keyboard lights still working but no screen. Connected to projector to see if the login screen shows but it did NOT. Tried to restart few times, reset using the pinhole at the bottom, ran diagnositcs and tried to refresh system etc using the troubleshoot options, checked the BIOS settings - all of which show up on screen and the LCD test pass like a charm but the Windows boot does not work. Thinkpad Yoga 15 running on Windows 10 pro. 20DQ machine type. The frustarting thing is warranty just expired end of July, phone support wont even discuss the issue since it is expired. I spent good amount of days thinking about spending a lot on this laptop last year only to reach a point within one year I might have to spend few mor... Read more

With the 15.46 series drivers from intel a new problem rised. After waking up from sleep black-blank screen appears. Cannot do anything other than force closing pc. Intel states that manufacturers must fix their bios for sleep (s3) state for upcoming Windows 10 update and intel graphics drivers.Solution for now is turning back to 15.45 series drivers. Is there any update on fix for bios?(Only yoga 510 bios fixed at the moment)Here is a dedicated thread on Intel forums:https://communities.intel.com/thread/116427?start=30&tstart=0

Hi, I bought the ideapad Yoga 11s at the end of august this year. I was all working fine until around the end of September when the screen started to intermittently go black and when the screen was pressed it would suddenly start appearing (as if there was a loose wire). To rectify it I needed to hard reboot it, and it seemed to work OK until the next time it happened. Today the screen is completely black, the battery light is showing as charging when I plug the mains adapter in, and when I press the power button, it "looks like" it is turned on but the screen is completely black. Any ideas what I should do about this? And how it can be rectified? I have it setup perfectly so would ideally like a solution/fix for this machine? I do need to use it for work next weekend too so I will need to try and get it back up and running. Can anyone help/advise? Many thanks Sarah

Answer:Ideapad Yoga 11s screen is black

Hopefully someone with more knowledge than I have will provide some better advice for you, but I'll throw out a couple suggestions. A) Hold down the power button until you are sure power is completely off, then restart and see if you get anything.B) Try connecting via HDMI cable to a monitor or tv and see if you get a display. If so, try rebooting, reinstall video drivers, and at the least, do your work stuff like this until you can send your unit in for warranty repair. I haven't found this forum to be teeming with Lenovo technicians, but maybe they will prove me wrong. Best of Luck!

I clicked on the shut down button, as usual, and i closed the computer. However, I noticed that the white blinking light stayed on, like it does when it is in sleep mode, so i opened the computer and it turned on, except the screen is completely black and I can only see the mouse pointer. You can hear the machine running but the screen is entirely black. Nothing shows up, no log in screen or anything, and if I push the off button on the side of the laptop, it goes into sleep mode. HELP!Also, earlier in the day I clicked on a link and it said that it gave me a virus, so I ran the antivirus multiple time and found nothing, could this be the problem?

Hello friends, I hope everyone is doing well. I need some help, please. I have a Lenovo Yoga 12, Machin type 20DL laptop, which is just about 8 months old. It however just went out of warranty, since the original purchase (brand new in box) was made just about 12 months ago, but I was gifted it for the holidays. When I turn it on, I am getting a blank screen, not even a mouse cursor. I have tried to attach it, via the mini HDMI to an external screen but nothing. The external screen goes into power saving mode, I guess because it is not getting transmission from the laptop? When I turn on the laptop, I get the red power light, and the keyboard back light comes on, and I can hear a sort of acceleration sound, maybe the fan coming on and off? But nothing else. I have tried pressing the various function keys, e.g. to project it on a screen, to open the BIOS, but I do not see anything. Does anyone have any suggestions please? I will really appreciate any help. Thank you very much,

Hey guys, I purchased my Lenovo Yoga 710 15 inch laptop at the beginning of August and after a couple of days my screen went black and I couln't see my mouse or anything and the keyboard backlight was still on. I had to manually turn off the laptop by holding the power button. And since then it happens frequently. Sometimes I can go the whole day without it happening and days like today it will go black about 5-6 times a day. I contacted Lenovo technical support and the guy I was talking to said its not a hardware issue and maybe a softare issue. And I am getting sick and tired of this happening so often. I switched from a macbook to this and it feels like I made a huge mistake doing so. Nobody from Lenovo can tell me whats wrong with my laptop and I have updated all the drives and my computer is updated so I have no clue why it keeps doing it.  Can anyone please help me resolve this issue since no one from Lenovo can help me?

Hello, We just purchased a Yoga 12 for one of our administrators in our district.  It has a core i7 proc, 256SSD, 8GB RAM, Windows 10 x64.  While it works fine most of the time, when the system restarts, it starts to load windows but the screen goes black.  None of the keys on the keyboards work.  The computer itself is powered on, but there is nothing on the display until you touch the screen.  The lock screen then comes up, but you still can't use the keyboard until you swipe up the lock screen.  I thought maybe some driver issue but the event logs aren't showing anything.  The laptop isn't in tablet mode. Any ideas about this? thanks, Michael

Answer:Yoga 12 Black Screen on restart

In response to customer reports of black screens after restart on Yoga 12 laptops running Windows 10, Lenovo has released a Service TIP.

It can be found here: https://support.lenovo.com/us/en/documents/HT116649

Please note the tip lists the screen swipe as a work around, pending a permanent fix.

Hi,My Lenovo Yoga 2 Pro laptop is out of warranty by now, but I'm trying to get the issue fixed via a claim with my credit card company.  After turning on the laptop, the screen goes black while the backlit keyboard remains.  Touching the screen gives a vibration.  I connected the laptop to an external monitor via the HDMI out and found out the laptop is working so it's the screen having an issue.  I tried searching online and it looks like I'm not the only person having this issue; it's fairly common.Question -- How much would it cost to repair (or replace the screen if it's not repairable)?Thank you.
