X220 Tablet - Windows 10 Pro Clean Install - Supported Tablet Not Found on the System

Question: X220 Tablet - Windows 10 Pro Clean Install - Supported Tablet Not Found on the System

Just got this, and did a clean install of Windows 10 Pro. Installed all drivers, nothing funky in Device Manager, but the touchscreen and the pen are not working. Click on Pen Tablet Properties in Control panel and it tells me Supported Tablet Not Found on the System. This is my first time dealing with one of these, and am lost. I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Greetings, My system is i7 Multitouch X230t. It was working fine from last 2 months till today when while turning my screen from laptop to Tablet configuration the touch and pen function suddenly disappeared. When trying to access the Pen and Tablet setting it gives an error " A supported tablet not found on the system".Also at the same time i noted that in my device manager a USB device is now labeled as Unknown device. I searched the net and tried everything.  Restarting. - No effectUninstalling the unknown USB device and restarting - No effectUpdating all lenovo drivers from the lenovo Site - No effect System Recovery to an earlier Date (15 days) - No effect When i Tried to update Lenovo Multitouch/pen driver from lenovo site it give error " A supported tablet not found on the system" and aborts installing the driver. I uninstalled the wacom driver ISDdrivers.exe from windows Uninstall utility and again tried to install Multitouch and pen drivers but again it says " A supported tablet not found on the system". Someone please help. I am afraid it might be a hardware issue as the problem started when i turned the screen from laptop to tablet mode. Currently My X230t is just a Laptop and NOT a TABLET as there is NO touch and NO pen input, as if windows doesn't even recognize any tablet hardware on board. PLEASE HELP. Thankyou

Answer:Help: X230t " A supported tablet not found on the system" Problem. Its not a tablet anymore

Perhaps the cable got severed when you were turning it around? I've had a Wifi antenna cable break this way on an HP tablet... If it's still under warranty have them check it and replace it if necessary. It could also be a loose connector but there's no way to be sure without opening the screen assembly.

Touchscreen functionality stopped working on a students x220T.  Pen&Touch is enabled in the settings.  I tried to update the driver, but I am getting the message "A supported tablet was not found on this system."  I tried System Restore with no luck, still getting the same error message.  I also ran the Lenovo (ThinkVantage?) System Update with no luck.  Running ChkDsk now, any suggestions?  Should I try swapping out the LCD panel at this point?

Answer:MultiTouch Driver - "A supported tablet was not found on this system"

I am getting same message when trying to install the multitouch drivers. I just installed Windows 8 Pro and this is the only thing not working.  I was previously running the evaluation version of Windows 8 and did not have this problem.

Hello, Maybe somebody could help me. I just got W700 2757-CTO with Vista x64 SP1 Business, however when I got it I think my Wacom Digitizer worked, but after some time it stopped and I can't get it to work. I tried System Restore, I even performed a Clean Vista Install and even my system is flying now and everything is working much better than before, I still can't get Wacom Digitizer to work  Driver I'm using: 02 Sep 2008 v5.0.8-8 I also tried driver I found online that is 5.1.1-1, but it was the same result. Did anybody face that kind of issue and found a solution? Does anybody have other Vista x64 drivers that I could try? Your help will be highly appreciated.

Answer:W700 - Wacom Digitizer not working: A Supported Tablet was not found on the system.

Guys, If somebody got the original driver that should be in C:\SWTOOLS\... somewhere in Digitizer folder, would you zip and send it to me so I can try the original driver that came with the machine. After clean install I lost all standard drivers. Your help will be highly appreciated.

I recently bought a used Thinkpad 220 Tablet. It has a 500 MB hard drive and Windows 7. I would like to perform the free upgrade to Windows 10 as well as replace the hard drive with a SSD. I have a couple of questions: I went to the Windows 10 upgrade site and downloaded the 64 bit version and burnt it to a DVD. However, where do I find my registration key? Do I just use my Windows 7 one? If I go ahead and replace the hard drive (with the SSD), can I just go ahead and install Windows 10 - instead of having to copy everything over to it from the old hard drive (with Windows 7) first? That would be my preferred route. (However, will need the key). What about the IBM diagnostic partittion - what should I do in terms of this? It would be nice to be able to perform backups, or return to the original config. Any tips, thoughts, pointers, or otherwise much appreciated in advance. Thanks,Jon

Answer:X220 Tablet - install SSD then Windows 10 from DVD?

Hello and welcome,

The way I read the documentation:  run the upgrade first from within your running Windows 7.  That should activate Win 10 and the activation status will be recorded on the Microsoft servers.  Once that's done you can do a clean '10 install - either on your existing drive or on the new SSD and activation should be retrieved automatically from the server.

BTW, I've moved your post to the X tablet forum.

I have a desktop that runs Windows 8.1. My x220 tablet runs Windows 7. I was thinking about getting a wacom bamboo tablet for my art in photoshop (which I make on my desktop... x220 isn't powerful enough for what I do in photoshop). Then I realized that my x220 tablet is kind of the same thing. Is there anyway I can connect my tablet to my desktop so that when I'm using photoshop, I can use the stylus on the tablet to control what I do? Many thanks in advance.

When I use the X220 as a laptop I can duplicate the display through my SmartBoard projector but when I use it as a tablet and it is docked I have to turn the tablet and dock 180 degrees so I am not writing upside down on the smartboard;  that means the dock has the cables coming out the front.  I can undock and plug everything into the X220 but the beauty of the dock is that I don't have to!

I was previously running Windows 8 Preview and did not have any problems with the touch screen.  I have tried two separate clean installs of Windows 8 Pro, and the only thing that will not work is the touch screen with my finger.  The pen still works, but not the finger touch.  The driver installation for both the pen and the multitouch fails with and error saying "A supported tablet was not found on the system." Help Please.

Hi, I have here a X220 Tablet that seem to have a FAN problem.Often in the last days my CPU temperature is often over 90 °CAnd the fan has problem to reduce the temperature.I have also situation that the CPU is going too hot and the tablet switch off! With the CPU tool TPFC.62 I can see that the fan speed is 2300-2500 RPMs.But this seams not enough to be. And now the strange thing:When I disable the graphic adapter ?Intel(R) HD Graphics Family? (Driver 8.15.10.2321) and reboot and do the same thing that I done to get the temperature over 90 °C with the intel graphic adapter the temperature is not going over 83 °C!!! The fan speed is 3500-3800 RPMs. Can someone helps me with this issue?

Answer:X220 Tablet FAN Problem - temperature over 90 °C - tablet switch off :(

Hi giciorek,

I understand that your fan/temperature problems can be frustrating.  I would try updating your BIOS and also updating Power Manager.  (Some on the forum have tried downloading ThinkPad Fan Control, but that is not an official Lenovo solution.)

Download Power Manager here:

http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/downloads/detail.page?DocID=DS014924

Download BIOS Update here:

http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/downloads/detail.page?DocID=DS018805

In Power Manager, click Advanced at top right, you can Set Optimize Fan Control to Balance All Parameters under Battery Settings.  Set it to Reduce Noise Dynamically under AC.

Let me know if this helps.

Hi all,    I have a really annoying problem...my x220 tablet disconnects from the internet whenever I enter tablet mode. The internet can be working perfectly fine while in non tablet mode but as soon as I switch to tablet mode, my internet disconnects. And if I switch back to non tablet mode from tablet mode, my internet returns almost instantaneously. I can load a page in non tablet mode with no problems, switch to tablet mode and the page stops loading. If I return back to non tablet mode the page resumes loading without so much as a pause or a hiccup. Also, when I switch the computer to tablet mode, wifi networks disappear off of the "available networks" list that were there before the switch.     I've tried everything, from updating network device drivers, reinstalling network device drivers, running diagnostics, reformatting my computer, uninstalling Norton Antivirus, system restoring to days before the last known working date in normal mode and safe mode, and contacting customer support (chat and call, managed to get a hold of a rep) but none of them have worked.    I also used to have a networking log before I reformatted/system reset to factory settings and there were a ton of errors with words like avsc manager failed to "something" ... I'll reinstall the thinkpad network managing program to create another log. Can someone please help me? My last resort is calling lenovo support again to have tech support come to hel... Read more

I have a new X220 Tablet, and the Pen and Tablet functions work perfectly out of the box as long as the unit is on the Ultrabase. As soon as I remove from the Ultrabase (or boot while not connected), the Pen & Tablet functions stop working. Conversely, if I dock the X220, the Pen & Tablet functions begin working again. The behavior is the same regardless of whether I have an external monitor attached or not. Any thoughts?

The learning curve on this machine is steep if you want to take advantage of all the input options but I've put the time in and I'm starting to love it. There is one thing I wish Lenovo would address though. I see plenty of ThinkPad users with this problem going back to at least 2008, and no solutions forthcoming. The manual states: "On the display bezel near the screen is a row of buttons with which you can control your computer in the tablet mode, without the use of the keyboard."By default the buttons are set to turn your computer off, press CTRL+ALT+DEL, or rotate the screen 90 degrees. The manual goes on to describe how you can customize these buttons via the Tablet Shorcut Menu, which is accessed via Start > Programs > Lenovo ThinkVantage Tools > Tablet Utility. If you open this program you get a dialog box titled "Auto Screen Rotation Settings." This dialog controls what orientation the screen should switch to when you convert into tablet. So it really doesn't have anything to do with the buttons. The only dialog that allows any assignment of the tablet buttons is Windows Control Panel > Tablet PC Settings. Here the Buttons tab is supposed to list the actual buttons on the front panel and let you assign them, but the only one shown is the Screen Rotation button. This works fine, you can set the button's function for a single press and a long press. (Too bad it's not possible to use Shift by itself, but that is as-designed by MS.)It should go without sayi... I have a Slide i701 which came with Windows 8.1 and I used the Media Creation Tool ISO to upgrade it to Windows 10 Home Single Language x86. Yesterday, I downloaded the 1511 Build for the same. I'd like to clean install the build using the ISO and by clean install I mean, I will be cleaning the whole disk with clean all (diskpart) to start fresh. The tablet uses GPT, and I have a USB with the ISO booted with Rufus using the GPT scheme for UEFI.
1. Can I directly clean install by booting the USB like on a PC and then clean the disk with clean all command or do I have to do some additional steps, for eg:- I read somewhere that I have to convert the disk to GPT after using clean all.
2. How to activate after clean install.

Please leave your suggestions, esp. if you have done the same as above on a UEFI Tablet. Thanks

Answer:Clean install on Windows 10 Tablet - UEFI

The easiest way to do it is not mess with diskpart at all. Boot from the USB flash drive - select the custom install option - delete every partition on the "disk" - select the unallocated space to install to and click next to let Windows set up the "disk" the way it wants to.

It will activate based upon both the Windows 8 product key it finds in the UEFI firmware and the digital entitlement stored on Microsoft activation servers from the initial upgrade.

Before you do the clean install, I would highly recommend you export all the third party drivers using the dism /online /export-driver command.

I believe the SERVICE partition is the recovery partition, is that right? Can I just over right the PRELOAD partition with 7 and then if I don?t like windows 7 still restore from the SERVICE partition? Or if that?s completely wrong or don?t make sense can someone please advise the best steps to enable me to keep the what I call ?recovery? partition to enable me to reinstall XP and all the ThinkPad utilities from the hard drive.  Thanks to anyone who can help.

Hello guys,
I have a Lenovo ThinkPad 8 tablet which came with windows 8.1 and I was very happy with it. After I upgraded to windows 10 things were smoot at first but recently I noticed a noticeable battery drain even if the device is in sleep mode (battery drains completely in 8-10hours even in sleep mode). But the most frustrating things are the apps not working. Mail, calendar, maps, photos, even OneNote and Wunderlist. I would like to reinstall the whole device but I am not sure how to proceed. Should I do the factory reset back to Win 8.1 losing the free Win 10 upgrade or should i do a clean install of Win 10? Is it even possible to do a clean Win 10 install if I donīt have the product key? Is it worth keeping Win 10 in an 8 inch tablet?

Answer:My x220 tablet arrives this Tuesday! What apps to install and what else to do?

0_o Huh? Like in general as a Windows user, Thinkpad user, or as a Windows tablet user?My favorite general advice for the laptop is this: use the Lenovo Power Manager to set the processor as low as possible and activate all other power-saving features except lowering screen brightness. Then, go and get some kind of browser add-on that disables Flash. Firefox does it using the "Toolbar Buttons" add-on, and it even allows you to activate a single Flash element at a time--meaning you can watch the YouTube video without having to see the Flash ad beside it.Those steps transformed my battery life experience. As a Windows tablet? I don't know.... On my Acer W500 (a disappointing machine), the only thing that doesn't really work is Chrome--it insists on me using the scrollbar to scroll, whereas IE and Firefox accept one-finger scrolling just fine, same as any tablet or smart phone. In my case, I really enlarged the DPI settings a lot--150%--to make the right-click menus easier to poke at. Being a bigger screen, the X220 won't suffer from that problem as much, but if you're using the multitouch version, it might be worth experimenting with different DPI settings in the control panel.

hi guys, I've spent a ridiculous amount of time trying to fix this to no avail: my computer: lenovo x61 tablet first problem: yellow question mark in "Other Devices" >> "Network Controller" second problem: when i press Fn + F5 (wireless), i get a message saying "No Supported Wireless Adapters (802.11, WAN or Bluetooth) are installed in this system" third problem: no wireless connection icon in network connection folder..i've installed so called adapters, Thinkadvantage access connection, but none of it helped how do i connect wirelessly!!!??? (wired is OK). thanks in advance!

Answer:No Supported Wireless Adapters (802.11, WAN or Bluetooth) are installed in this system - x61 Tablet

Hi jlevin37, and welcome to the Lenovo User Community!

Sounds like you're missing some X61 Tablet drivers and software!

It's a little hard to tell which ones from your post, but make sure you have the chipset, system interface, network drivers, and power manager drivers installed. You don't need Access Connections unless you have some specific use for it.

Don't forget to do both steps of the install: 1. Extract. 2. Install.

You could also let ThinkVantage System Update find and install the missing drivers, but I recommend only letting it install or update those things which have value to you.

My friend has a Gateway tablet pc that is in dire need of an os reinstall. I've done some searching and apparently you can't buy a copy of XP tablet edition. The comp didn't come with any recovery media, and it has no recovery partition. Gateway and the Geek Squad want over $200 each to reinstall an os. I have read that a regular copy of XP can be installed on a tablet and will work just fine, but you lose some of the tablet functionality, such as using the "pen" to write on the screen and such. I assume this is just a driver issue, can't you just extract certain drivers and save them to a disk before starting the reinstall?

Is this something I should approach? I'd really like to fix it for her, and save her the money. How would the Geek Squad do it if there are no copies of XP Tablet Edition available?

Answer:Clean install of XP on a tablet?

I guess I could go on a tangent about how much of a flop the Tablets were and wonder why anyone actually bought one....but that isn't going to help your friend.

Gateway isn't offering a Tablet Restore Disc for the cost of shipping, I'm guessing. HP used to do that when I worked for them...but maybe Gateway is different. It seems like you really do have two options. Pay the $200, or install XP and deal without the functionality. I doubt those drivers can be extracted and then installed on a regular XP version...much the same way the MCE remotes only worked on MCE editions...not regular XP.

Answer:Windows 10 support for X220 Tablet

Hello,

It may work fine with Windows 10, however, I don't believe its generation of CPU, IGP and chipset are supported by Intel for Windows 10, which means that Lenovo can't support them, either.  For what it is worth, I installed Windows 10 on a ThinkPad X61t and didn't notice any issues, and that has been out of support for a much longer time than your X220t.

That said, it could be that Windows 7, 8 or 8.1 drivers for the various bits of silicon inside your X220 tablet may work just fine under Windows 10, in which case you would be up and running.

The best suggestion I have is to make a thorough backup of your X220 and then try applying the Windows 10 Upgrade.  If it doesn't work, you will be able to wipe the drive and then reload your backup.

Regards,

Hello,In January, I upgraded the hard drive in my X220 Tablet and installed Windows 8 to the new hard drive.  Since doing so, I've been having trouble with the Wi-Fi on the computer.  It does this thing from time to time (a few times a week) where the Wi-Fi just cuts out, and doesn't think any networks are available, although the networking adapter is enabled.  Usually I can fix things by disabling and enabling the networking adapter a few times, but I'm getting tired of having to do this.  The problem is entirely with the computer, and not with my network, as it will do this on number of different networks, and the problem is not with the networking components.   Has anyone else had similar issues?  Does anyone have any advice on how to fix it?

Hey folks, I've upgraded my X220 Tablet to W8 when it has been released. All is running fine. Okay, I deinstalled PC Doctor and several other Lenovo apps which are supported for W7 only but this has not been a lack for me. Since two days, after using the tablet functionality (touch + pen) the touchpad and trackpoint didn't work any more. Had that some time ago, when I suspended the machine in tablet-mode. Afterwards the touchpad and trackpoint were disabled. I could enable both by hitting FN+F8. But this shortcut doesn't work any more. Does anyone know, how to restore the FN+F8 shortcut? I found out the application behind the FN+F8 key can be found in C:\Program Files\ThinkPad\UltraNav Utility\UNAVOSD.exe UPDATE: Driver version is already at 16.2.19.2. cheerskyoshiro

Jason There's usually a brand specific backup setting on the device. Look for something like Samsung backup. You can then usually create a bootable recovery USB flash drive and delete the recovery partition from the tablet.

If I have a tablet laptop that has numerous important drivers/programs, how can I ensure that I can get them all if I start from a clean install from a copy of Windows 7 DVD that I get my hands on?

Run the Win7 Upgrade advisor which will tip you to drivers that may be needed or apps which might be incompatible: http://www.microsoft.com/windows/win...e-advisor.aspx

Go to the maker's Support Downloads webpage for your tablet model. Either download the latest drivers to stick or CD, or bookmark the page.

The Win7 installer is driver-complete with newer arriving quickly via optional Windows Updates so check there first. Turn this on as well: Automatically get recommended drivers and updates for your hardware

Then if there are any missing drivers in Device Manager, import them from the Support Downloads webpage you backed up.

I replied in a another post also, sorry for that.. But I hope this post get's more attention. I just bought a x220 Tablet but my touchscreen doesn't work at all. I bought de computer with  Windows 10 installed on it. I just used WacomhardwareCheck and it gave the message: 'your hardware does not appear input capabilities and is not currently supported by the Wacom FEEL driver'.So, does this mean my touchscreen is broken and doesn't work? Is there a hardware problem? How can I see if the touchscreen is registered by Windows?it would be great if someone could help me to get this thing working... I think the touchscreen makes this an interesting machine...

EDIT: In perhaps the most embarrassing moment to have asked for help in my entire life, I restarted my computer and everything works fine now.  I must not have restarted after one of the drivers was installed for some reason.  This topic can be locked. ---- Original Post: Hello, I am a digital artist so I rely on the hardiness of my X220's pen/stylus/digitizer for a lot of my laptop use.  This fall my laptop had a virus that required it to be reset to factory settings, and so I decided it would be a good time to upgrade to Windows 8.1 (from Windows 7) before installing any programs.  I now have Windows 8.1 and it is working fine; however, my pen is not being detected by my system.  My fingers are being detected on the touchscreen, so I know the touch screen works.  I did not try my pen since resetting to factory settings, so I do not know whether it worked before I upgraded to Windows 8.1.  I would assume the issue is a missing driver, but I could not find the right driver on Lenovo's website and the digitizer update utility produces an error when I click "Update."  I was wondering if anybody had an idea for what I could do.  I would assume I am not the first person to try updating to Windows 8.1 on an X220, nor the first to reset an X220 to factory settings.  However, a brief search of Lenovo's support forums and of the internet has shown no solutions to my particular problem. Here are drivers I am us... I am experiencing very poor Virtual PC performance on my new X200 tablet. I have tried existing VHDs as well as brand news Windows 7 VM's created on the machine. VHD's that launch in 30 seconds on my two year old Toshiba tablet take over a minute to launch on my new X220 tablet. That Toshiba Portege M780 rates multiple points lower on the Windows Experience Index than the X220t. Lenovo loads more drivers and services on their out-of-box machine than I have every seen, so I can't help wondering if there is some driver or application impacting VM performance. I did uninstall and reinstall the latest version of RapidBoot (saw that post), but that didn't help the VM performance. Anyone else out there run VMs on their X220t? Thanks, C.C.

Answer:Virtual PC Performance on Windows 7 64-bit X220 Tablet

The Virtual PC (Windows Virtual PC) version for Windows 7 is much worse than older Virtual PC 2007. Have you enabled HW virtualization in BIOS ? It is required for Windows 7 host system. I've used Virtual PC 2007 on Windows XP host many years but since it is not supported by Windows 7 host anymore, I've moved to VirtualBox and haven't found any problem yet.

I'm having trouble getting speedstep to work on my X220t running Win8 Pro x64. Below some settings that may be relevant. I'm hoping someone has been able to get this to work, because at the moment I only get 2h45min battery life with the Core i7-2620M always at 2.7GHz.  - I have BIOS 1.29- In the BIOS SpeedStep is set to be active when on battery- I have installed the latest Intel Chipset drivers (Version 9.3.0.1021)- I have installed the latest power management driver (1.66.0.22)- With the system on battery with low activity the CPU remains at 2.69GHz- In windows power options (Advanced) I have 'system cooling policy' set to 'passive'. Oddly in Windows power setings I don't see any explicit settings for throttling there. I recall that I used to be able to specify a minimum processor state. Maybe that points to the problem?  Has anyone seen the CPU speed change in Win8, and if so, any settings or drivers I need to change?   Image below of the CPU state while on battery and with low activity.

Answer:Speedstep not working on X220 tablet with Windows 8

Well shoot, after spending an hour installing drivers and searching online, the last clue in my post was the one that did it. I looked for 'minimum processor state' and found this page:  http://goo.gl/MHG8I Conclusion:  the Windows 8 System info page and the new task manager do not always display the actual clock speed. For comparison, on my Ativ Atom Z2760 system the Task Manager correctly shows the actual current clock speed (and it's varying a lot), while the System Info page shows the max clock speed of 1.8GHz. For this X220t on the other hand the Task manager display is stuck showing the max CPU speed only. Maybe a firmware update will fix this, not sure.  To see the actual speed on the X220t install CPU-Z, see screenshot below. In the screenshot the speed shows as less than 800MHz at the moment, and I see it ramp up when I do something CPU intensive.  Hope this helps someone else. It doesn't explain why the battery life is so bad though. Maybe the battery is just dying..

Hi, diglett

There is another driver you could try using and see if it helps. Here you will find the latest version of the Synaptics driver. Synaptics is the company that also makes the UltraNav driver. The driver is the base Synaptics driver, but it should have most, if not all, of the functionality of the UltraNav driver. You can find the driver here.

Best of luck, and let me know how it goes

I just received a new x220 tablet, and the fingerprint reader is not working. As far as I can tell, it has never worked. It does not show up in the bios, and it does not show up in the Windows device manager. It is as if the hardware is not there. Is this a hardware defect? Has anyone else experienced this type of issue?

Answer:x220 tablet fingerprint reader not detected in bios or Windows

It is hard to diagnose from across the country, but there are 3 parts involved - the fingerprint device itself, the cable and the USB hub circuitry on the motherboard. (fingerprint connects as a USB device) You might try to upgrade the BIOS to the latest.   If you have a warranty, use it. If you bought with no warranty, all you can do is check for an unplugged cable and start swapping parts, but don't open it up if there is a warranty. You could turn an expensive repair into being your problem.

I have installed Windows 8.1 Professional on on a Lenovo X220 Tablet and everything seems to have installed correctly, although my system, which supported limited touch with 2 touch points in Windows 7, only has Pen Support in 8.1. I have been able to get the system to be recognized as "Pen and Limited Touch Support with 2 Touch Points" but only if I disable/unintall the Intel HD 3000 driver, and use Microsoft Basic Display Adapter instead.  The problem is that the resolution isn't as crisp.   Any recommendations as to what I can do to get the limted touch to be recognized with the Intel HD 3000 driver?  This one is baffling.   Any help would be appreciated.  The X220 Tablet's type is 4296-2WU Also, the Intel HD Graphics 3000 driver is the latest version compatible with 8.1 64bit - 9.17.10.3517. Update: I have also tried the previous Intel driver release, 9.17.10.3347, as well as the recommend Intel driver from the support page 9.17.10.2843 and non of them allow my screen to do Limited Touch Support with 2 Touch Points.  Yet, if I disable the Intel driver, and restart, I can.

Answer:X220 Tablet and Windows 8.1 - Limited Touch drops with Intel HD 3000 is installed?

Troy,

Thanks for sharing your expeirences and the details of the driver version.

Officially, I don't think Lenovo provided full support for Win 8 on the X220, but as you note it (and the upgrade to 8.1) can work with some limitations.   I'll check with one of our software engineers to see if he may have some suggestions on this one.

I expect you will probably draw some responses from the community as the X220 was a very popular system with a good following.

Hi all, I have recently upgraded to windows 7 (64bit) and now when I  put my tablet into tablet mode, the screen doesn't autorotate and none of the tablet buttons work. In order to rotate the screen I have to right click on the desktop and choose graphic properties/rotation.Interestingly if I press the tablet buttons while in tablet mode and then rotate the screen up to notepad mode within a few seconds the button will perform its function (rotate screen, activate tablet shortcut menu, etc). Does anyone know how to fix this problem? I've tried running system update (4.0) to no avail. Cheers

Only USD 77$
But i have some questions before i proceed to buy it for my child
1. As it is 16gb tablet but in actual we get only 4gb free space & i have read in reviews that once we update windows & other apps we are left with only 400mb space & we cant install other apps. So is it possible to install software's (.exe) on 64GB memory card which this tablet support ?
I am not talking about APPS, I am talking about .exe files like photoshop, ERP, educational softwares etc.
2. As it is having only 1 USB port so it is possible to attach a USB hub so that we can attach pen drives, KB, Mouse, HDD, 3g Dongel & power adapter at once ?
If anyone of you have used any windows 8/8.1 tablet then please reply.

I have a Cherry Mobile Alpha Morph that works without problems aside from the fact that, when I undock it from the keyboard, it doesn't detect that it should now be in Tablet Mode. I have to manually go to the Action Center and toggle it there. Same with docking it back. I have already checked my settings and I didn't disable Tablet Mode either.

Anyone have an idea how I can resolve this? I just want to seamlessly dock and undock the tablet and it should switch to tablet or desktop mode respectively.

I don't know if it's relevant but the OS is Windows 10 Home Single Language.

I have upgraded my X201 Tablet to Windows 10 32bit. As far as I can tell, everything is working, including the WACOM drivers and touchscreen.  Wireless has worked perfectly so far, not sure about Bluetooth as I don't use it. My only issue is that the buttons on the display do not work. The power button located on the display does work. I tried installing the Tablet Button Driver II and it will go through the install but the buttons do not work.  This is the download link:http://support.lenovo.com/us/en/downloads/ds027627 The document claims Windows 10 compatability and was Last Updated :08 Jun 2015. On inspection, all the files extracted are dated from 2012 and when trying to manually run the software Windows throws up an error that the software is not supported on this PC.   I removed and reinstalled and noted that the driver information page when running the installer does NOT have Windows 10 listed as a supported system. My assumption is that the driver that they have linked on the download page is NOT the most current driver and is infact the driver for Windows 7 from 2012. Does anyone know how to contact Lenovo to get the correct driver posted to the page, or know of an alternate source to try and find it?

Hi,
I'm going to be doing some presentations and teaching online. I'm using Team Viewer 9 running on Windows 7 as my software. I would like to be able to have the equivalent to a whiteboard visible to the participants.
For a demonstration of the sort of thing I want to do see
where the presenter draws circles etc. He doesn't do any handwriting in the YouTube video (but he does in the actual presentation at CBT nuggets)
I'm total newbie when it comes to tablets, but a tablet that allows drawing direct on the tablet and simultaneous display on a Windows monitor. I know that the presentation on You Tube was done with various Wacom devices. Intuos4, Cintiq monitor, or more recently, Cintiq Companion tablet. (I tweeted the presenter Shawn Powers). These devices are a bit beyond my budget. Is there a cheaper alternative? Sadly the Microsoft Surface Pro 2 is not yest available in Australia (where I am) - I'm not sure if it's a possible answer, but I'm assuming it would be. Is there anything else that's not going to mean I have to take out a mortgage on my house?
Thanks in advance for your help.
cheers,
Bernard

I have upgraded to Windows 8 64 bit on my X61 Tablet, however I cannot get the tablet buttons, hotkeys, or auto-rotation to work. My understanding is that Lenovo has stopped supporting these products. I think it is a shame to stop using a perfectly working tablet PC with a superior LCD. I don't want to go back to Win 7 leaving all kinds of nice features on Windows 8. Any suggestions? Is there a hope? Koray

Answer:X61 Tablet Windows 8 - Tablet Button and Features Request

Hi koray,

I've been playing around with Windows 8 since the developers preview.  I've ran it on a lot of older systems.  Getting things to work will require some experimentation on your part.

You can start with your Driver Matrix.  There you can find the Hotkeys Utility for Windows 8.  You will also need the Power Manager Driver for Windows 8.  Not Power Manager,  just the Power Manager Driver.

Run Windows Update, it will probably find some stuff.  Some Windows 7 drivers will work, others won't.

I'm running Windows 8 Pro on an x60 tablet and everything works fine.  I also have it on an x61 non-tablet and it runs fine. I had to do a lot of messing around with stuff to get them to work right though.

Just make sure that you set system restore points before changing anything so you can get back what you had before, just in case something doesn't work right.  And, only install one thing at a time and reboot and test it out thoroughly before you install something else.

Good luck with this,

Dave

Hi everybody! I recently got a great deal on an HP Pavilion X2 10- 2 in 1 that came with Windows 10. As it is a secondary computer and going to replace an Android tablet as my primary portable solution, I'm trying to achieve the max. amount of free storage space own the embedded 32gb flash storage.

After uninstalling some bloat and running Windows update, I'm left with a whopping 11.6 gb of free space. I'd read there was a solution to reseting the pc minus the bloat, but I believe that article was incorrect. I would like to ditch the HP recovery partition completely as I have no need for any of their crapware and reclaim that space. (It's a 5.?gb partition where they are hiding the HP junk.)

Is the only solution to purchase a retail Windows 10 license or can I install Windows 10 from USB and the serial automatically transfers? (I doubt that would work.) or is there any other solution to achieve a slimmed down install so I can ditch the partition and just have pure Windows 10?

Thanks!

If and when you get rid of the recovery partition, I would recommend to first make an image of the system so that you always have some fallback. And make sure you include the partition with the bootmgr.

I have built a computer and I am quite stumped by this issue

Gigabyte H77M-D3H ver 1.1 board
8 GB ram
Intel 2105 i3 CPU
Adata SSD SP900 256GB SSD
Silverstone 500w psu
Pinoneer DVD RW
Windows 7 Home Premium with SP1 OEM disk.

I have several copies of Windows 7 full OEM disks, I have tried 9 other disks thinking there may be a read error. I believe I have successfully eliminated that as a possibility.

I assembled the system, booted into BIOS, set AHCI enabled, Boot priority to DVD Drive on SATA channel 4 as #1, and SATA channel 0 #2 the Adata SSD. SATA channel 0, and 1 are 6gb/sec 2-5 are 3gb/sec. I disabledd UEFI and set to legacy. The BIOS sees the SATA drive size and manufacturer. Saved BIOS settings and rebooted with Windows 7 Disk in drive.

On the tutorial seen here http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/1649-clean-install-windows-7-a.html
I can only get to step 7. When at that screen I have no drive to select and i get the alert "No drives found". One time, and one time only - I did get a drive to select which had 0 space avalable to load windows.

The BIOS for this board is the latest and greatest from Gigabyte - F9 version. F10 is a beta build.

What I have done:
1. Looked at Adata website for any drivers - none, only the firmware update tools
2. Looked at Gigabyte website and found nothing pertaining to this issue. Went thru MB manual and it says to load the provided mother board driver disk 'after' windows is installed.
3. Removed battery from MB,... Read more

Question: x220 tablet DOA.

So. I ended up, after about a month and a half of lurking on forums and reading reviews, purchasing an X220t with most of the bells and whistles, along with an extended next day onsite warrranty, extra pen, etc. I track it all the way from China on the UPS site every three hours. It has been an unhealthy obsession. And it arrived in the mail. Dead. Won't work. Won't boot. DOA (mostly. several indicator lights flash a bit, but I don't hear a HD, fans spinning, or screen turning on.)  I've talked with tech support (who did what they could [Nice people!]) but they were unable to get any immediate help or provide any advice beyond 'we'll call you'.Also, they couldn't find verification that I had a warranty for awhile. My concern is that this is for college, and I'll be going to school on the other end of the country (Colorado School of Mines!). And I'll be leaving shortly, and work has left me short on time, etc. So, how common is this? Should I try to get my money back and just buy a Fujitsu tablet, or something else from a retailer? There is always bragging about thinkpads being so tough, and mine is dead after a ride through UPS via Worldport. ( I know... could be any number of components that were dead to begin with, etc.) Are they just crap? I'm trying to keep it cool, but I just spent a whole lot of money, including on a warranty which is generally just gravy for most companies, and I've recieved a very pretty lump of plastic (again, I'm not an ent... Answer:x220 tablet DOA.

Sideburns, welcome to the forum,

I'm sorry to read about your experience, something like this must be a huge disappointment after having waited eagerly for the arrival of your new ThinkPad.

So far you seem to have handled the situation correctly and would ask you to take a look at this post in our FAQs; Mark's Advice About DOA systems.

I personally feel that in your situation, due to the time limitations you mention, the quickest route for you to persue would be with support and having the system repaired. Yes you have stong arguments to ask for a refund or an exchange system, but these could potentially take longer to realise than having the system repaired.

As to your question to how common this is; in my experience it's not at all common. I personally have been selling Think products for over 11 years and can count on one hand the number of systems I have seen which were literally DOA.

Question: Tablet X220

Hi, Looking to verify that the tablet X220 can run dual monitors using the Thinkpad Ultrabase Series 3 Dock.  Would like to use two external monitors, one has a vgs connection and the other has DVI.  Could one monitor use the VGA connection and for the DVI monitor, can an adapter be used to connect to the display port? Thanks,Aaron

Solved!

Answer:Tablet X220

When you are docked on the Ultrabase Series 3, the dock's displayport and vga can both be active. Yes you can use the displayport to dvi converter to connect to your second monitor.

Selecting this option may delay your shipment more than 4 weeks.
[$0.00]
12.5" HD Multi WW 3x3 No Camera
Selecting this option may delay your shipment more than 4 weeks. Why even release a model when both screen options are delayed more than four weeks? It's a phantom launch. No real product is available. I first checked this an hour or two after "launch" so it's always been like this. This is rediculous and is just a cash grab with the idea "see! it's available, please don't give your money to another company". Don't release products you can't ship. Don't release products before every major option is available, i.e., Gorilla Glass, i5, i7 processors...

Answer:The x220 Tablet is not available

It's interesting that apparently the Canadian site actually tells you in advance that there will be a 4+ week delay. On the US site, none of the options have notices saying they may cause delays. The order says "ships in 8-12 business days" all the way up until you check out, at which point it changes to "estimated ship date" in 5+ weeks (5/27/11).

Ok first off, I do love Lenovo, it's about the best computer I've ever owned.  With that said, there is going to be some complaining going on here, but I hope it's both constructive and instructive as well as observed and addressed. #1. Applies to both Win 7 and Win 8 (I'm dual booting both Operating systems).  The ultranav drivers/software are pretty bad.  First and foremost, "Middle Click Mouse Button".  By default on my shiny new Windows 8 clean install, the mouse and trackpad work great, with some features missing because of generic drivers, but Whallah!  The middle button functions naturally and perfectly as a middle mouse button.  Upon installing (and then immediately removing) Ultranav, the middle mouse functionality disappears and your stuck with a dopey scrolling button...  Didn't anyone ever tell the driver department that handles this that regular middle mouse button functionality handles scrolling by default in most modern browsers/applications, there is no need to over-ride this default functionality at all, and in the process making it worse.  Please ditch the zoom/scroll options and just give us a middle mouse button (or at least make it an available option in Ultranav).  Some of the features in Ultranav work great in Windows 7, edge scrolling on the trackpad, palm recognition, etc., being able to speed up the red keyboard joystick thingy, add acceleration, etc..  The recommended Win 8 driver... I just purchased X220 Tablet. While purchasing I was made to understand that the system comes with Mobile Broadband Ready. However I am unable to use  my SIM card. I have inserted the SIM in the slot underneath the Battery, as was mentioned in the manual. But it does not work, no internet connection and in Access Connection the Mobile Broadband button is greyed. Can some one explain reason? I am able to use the sim with the pocketwifi, the tablet is able to detect through wifi but I wanted my 3G to be inthe laptop so taht I don;t have to use pocketwifi or USB dongle.

Hi everyone I have had a Lenovo X220 tablet for a while now. I bought it on eBay. I can't send it to lenovo to fix, of course. My config (currrent):Win 8.1 pro (legal)Sandisk 128gb SSDLenovo 2x4 gb ram My problem is the following: as some in this forum experienced too, it just reboots randomly for no reason. It goes "clic", black screen and back to bios then OS.The behavior is the exact same as if you kept the power button pressed until it reboots. What I've been testing so far:- Switching OS (I've tested win7, win8, ubuntu, debian, elementaryos, archlinux)- Switching HDD (one SSD, one HDD)- Switching ram (removed one, removed the other, switched positions)- Flashing the bios, upgrading, downgrading it)- Watching the CPU, fan, temp: all normal. For some reason the best experience was with Windows 8.What could it be? I used lenovo diagnostics tools downloaded from their official site, but the only one that works is memorytest (which proved to be ok) I don't want another computer, I love that one and I don't want to change. Some people mention driver issues (graphics card, power management, stylus)... Could you please, please, help me? I don't know what to do anymore. And I don't have the money to get another computer right now. I am a teacher and I draw comics as a hobby and I need my lenovo to ink and color my work.  I'm fairly aware as to informatics, I know how to create live usbs, I know how to uninstall / reinstall drivers, I know how to use m... The touch features work fine, and to the best of my knowledge all my drivers are up to date. At this point I think I need to simply replace the pen, but before I spend the money on that, i would like to see if any of you know how to fix this without a new pen.  Thank you for your time,BriceJ

The truth is I don't know whether I should get a X220 tablet or standard X220.  I just think the tablet thing could be fun when reading, sorting and editing photos, etc., and I'd still have a X220 if it turns out to be useless.  Is this a correct assumtion? =)I've seen X220 tables come with an UltraBase and a DVD-RW drive.  I'd like a setup where I have some sort of docking station at my desktop were I can attach to a larger (DisplayPort) monitor, a keyboard, scanner, etc, and quickly snap my pc out for mobile work, preferably with the option of having a DVD-drive attached.  Would a X220 tablet with the UltraBase fit in the Dock or should the UltraBase be removed first?  Can the UltraBase be seen as a portable clip-on DVD-drive or should it be regarded as an alternative to a Dock?  Or put in a use-case:  I have my X200 tablet with the UltraBase and drive.  Can I quickly click this in the Dock and continue (say) watching DVD on my monitor?  Or do I have to move all cables from the Dock to the UltraBase?  Same for standard X220?What's the max output when connected to a UltraBase and/or Dock?  Or put in a different way: Can the X220 tablet fully use a 1920x1200 monitor?  What's the max resolution?  Same for standard X220?Where can I find jucy specs like these?  The standard white paper only shows very brief defails and only for the laptop's own screen.I seems like there are two versions of the X220 tablet disp... Answer:Questions regarding X220 tablet before I buy one

1. That is "correct" but it would also be "expensive." The tablet is several hundred dollars more expensive for a feature you may never use.2. The UltraBase IS a dock. And for the tablet, it is the ONLY dock. It is technically portable but I wouldn't recommend carrying it around. As far as I know, the X220 without tablet has other options, but you wouldn't be able to use an UltraBase and a dock at the same time.3. The tablet can handle 1920x1200 and higher, but I haven't personally tested beyond 1920x1080 (my monitor is an HDTV which only goes up to 1080p). 5. The Gorilla glass is only on the outdoor model. It does not support two finger touch. Both displays have stylus input. 7. Ignoring the weight difference, the experience should be identical, although I haven't tested this myself. I would recommend against getting a tablet. I and many others are having great issue with the accuracy of the stylus input.

Answer:PLEASE HELP - Should I buy Tablet or Standard X220?

tablet allows you to directly write on the screen or use your finger as an input device (if you select the multitouch option), so if you have need for such feature, then the tablet obviously will the best choice. If you don't use the handwriting or touch screen option, then the normal x220 laptop is better, as it is slightly lighter than the tablet model and also slightly more rugged due to the different hinge design.

I'm configuring an order for a maxed x220 tablet. I really want a large (512gb or higher SSD). Since that's not a factory option I guess I'll have to go aftermarket, open the case and do a home upgrade. I've done plenty of drive upgrades before but not an SSD.My review of message board makes it seem like there can be fit problems with some SSDs in the x220, and that with SSDs in general you should do a clean install and not a full clone (with OS).  That always raises issues with drivers and QA'ing the install to make sure you got it all back to factory fresh. I've read the posts about using a smaller SSD in the extra slot as a boot drive and keeping files on HDD, but I would really like to have everything on the faster media. So my question is, are there any x220 tablet owners out there that have self-installed large SSDs. Any tips, warnings or reassurances? Thx

Answer:x220 tablet and large SSD

HI,  I installed Intel 320 SSD (160 Gb) and used Acronis to clone the previous drive. It worked well. What may be of greater interest to you, is that I had to remove a black spacer attached to the SSD to make it 7mm from 9.5mm.  It can be easily done with Intel SSDs (except 510, I think), but you will have to order shorter screws online. Just search Google or this forum for screws for Intel SSD. Good luck!

I tried this on X220 tablet and could not find any problem like you say.  Do you have any more details?

- Does this happen if you press WindowsKey-L to lock the system?
- What version of autolock do you have installed?  You can find it in control panel -> programs -> programs and features

Hi guys, New x220 tablet. Has been working fine, left it for the weekend and coming back to it this morning it will not bootup. Is built with Windows 7 and I had the full functionality of the biometrics running and sync'd with drivelock/bios password. On trying to boot this morning using the power button, I press it once, the button lights green (around edge), for a second, then disappears, the biometric light goes green for a second then disappears.  Nothing else happens from there. Have tried the usual - battery replaced, booting on just power etc but same happens.  I cannot hear or feel the hdd spinning (i have an identical model also which is working fine). Have searched through the forums and inet but cannot find any issues relating to the light sequence etc (wondering if it had a specific sequence to tell me what the errors are).... Suspect HDD has gone as it is just not spinning, but cannot be sure as I cannot get to BIOS or anything else..... Any ideas?

Answer:x220 Tablet will not bootup

Edited to add: I swapped hdd out and put it in identical tablet - HDD seems to work fine. Popped it back into the offending tablet, tried to switch power on and the green light around power button alternates with biometric light (on and off) for around 30 seconds and ends up with biometric light green and power light off.... Also swapped out memory - still nothing - no access to BIOS etc - no warning beeps...

I tried using the registry hack in Windows 8 to stop my battery charging higher than 95%, and was sucesful. however this has also had the effect of meaning that when I plug the charger in when the laptop is on, it says "plugged in, not charging". If I turn the laptop off, or put it into Standby, then plug the charger in, it starts charging fine and continues to do so after turning it back on. I have tried re-installing Windows 8.1 (and not installed any of the power management drivers) incase it was a driver problem, however this has not fixed it. If there is some way to completly reset the battery controller (i'm not sure if the chip that does this is in the battery of laptop) then I would be very glad to know.

I don't know each time its on different sides sometime slide my finger left would go back and some times the opposite. Any suggestions? to put it more correct, it is not "gestures" but Flickers.I can use all of them by running my finger or pen on screen, but then it is just losing orientation between using  it as a laptop and using it as a tablet (spin the screen and lay it down).I also found that the orientation flip button, which is located on the left side of the bottom of the screen, is not responding. However, when I hold ctrl+alt + each one of the array keys, it does orient my screen and the gyro (if its a gyro) is also calibrated and changing positions.

Hi, I've just received my X220 from B&H, and I read about the pen holder on the side of the laptop holding the pen with a click and releasing it by pressing in the pen. problem is, when i put the pen inside the pen holder there's nothing holding it in, there's a spring inside that pushes it out. any thoughts, am i doing something wrong?

Answer:X220 tablet pen holder not working?

You're doing it right, just make sure you're pushing it in all the way.

So I have had my tablet now for about 3 weeks or so and since the past week or week and a half I've noticed that the computer takes a long time to start up.  From when I turn the power on to when I get the Lenovo Thinkpad display is within a few seconds which is the norm.  However it takes quite a while, about 30 to 45 seconds for the log on screen to show up and then about the same for everything to be fully loaded and ready to go.  I will also check the log on times again and update the next time I boot up. Intel i7-2620320 GB hard drive8GB ram Any info is helpful and thanks in advance.

Answer:X220 Tablet slow startup

ok here are the official times for startup. power on to thinkpad logo 8-10 secstarting windows at the 20 sec markwindows log on page at 1min 20 sec markall icons loaded and ready to go at 3 min 20 sec mark Everything else about the computer is great and  once its on its runs super fast and I don't have any problems other than having to manually downloading the ultranav driver because it mysteriously went away.  I'm just a little frustrated with the abnormally long start up time.

Hello, I bought a X220 Tablet this past summer. A couple of days ago I was using the laptop plugged in when it popped up saying that I was on reserve battery. Thinking the plug had just come unseated, I unplugged and replugged the power supply from the back. The computer though refuses to think it is plugged into the power supply. It still gets power from a battery. I tested to make sure that it wasn't just a power supply issue by borrowing a known working one from a friend, which the computer also refused to recognize.  I was just wondering if this is a known issue of the plug going bad in the X220s, and if there was some fix before I took it into the repair center.

Answer:X220 Tablet no longer getting power

Dug through the forums for a bit after posting and found a similar problem in an X41. Played around with the instructions, and to my surprise my computer is now functioning again. Posting this here for anyone else that has a similar problem.  http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/X-Series-Tablet-ThinkPad-Laptops/Power-supply-replacement/m-p/22195

Hello Everyone! I am having inconsistent performance with my Lenovo X220 Tablet/Notebook and the Ultra Series 3 Docking station.  Occasionally, I am able to boot the system from the docking station and sign on through my external keyboard and monitor.  However, sometimes I must open the tablet up and turn on from the laptop itself, when this occurs, if I close the laptop lid, it turns the system off.  The most recent issue I've had when downloading drivers and other tasks that required rebooting the computer, when attempting to restart the computer in the docking station is not possible, i.e., not from the docking station and not from the computer.  In these instances I have had to remove the computer from the docking station to restart and then place it back into the docking station once Windows has started.  Again, with this type of start-up, I must keep the tablet open to keep it powered on. Is there a specific "docking mode" control somewhere on the computer so that when I'm using the docking station I don't have to go through these different steps to start up the computer?  I was unable to find any solutions to this in the user manual and I searched this site and did not find anyone else having similar problems - so I'm guessing there is a simple solution that I'm unaware of. Thank you for any assistance provided!

Did you ever get any help on this?  I am having the EXACT SAME ISSUES!  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I have x220 table. Is this laptop available to use triple monitor with only with DisplayPort Monitor Cables?Or I need to buy extra muti display adapter?Thank you in advance.

Answer:triple display with x220 tablet

The graphics chipset in the x220 only supports two active displays, including the one in the laptop itself.  You would need a USB video adapter or similar external solution to run three displays.
