Thinkpad S1 Yoga Windows 10 Palm rejection and SSD Oddities

Question: Thinkpad S1 Yoga Windows 10 Palm rejection and SSD Oddities

After upgrading to windows 10, palm rejection while using the stylus no longer works, causing there to be multiple glitchy inputs while the pen is active. It's set to right handed pen use and it's still messed up. The other thing is that crystal disk info says that there's no health setting for my SSD and most of it's stats are "unknown". Anyone know of any solutions to these issues?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer:Yoga S1 - windows 10 - palm rejection with stylus not working.

Also have an S1 with non-functioning palm rejection. The pen worked earlier, but now it no longer functions. It works in that it can calibrate itself in Wacom Pen settings, but otherwise refuses to register. UPDATE: restoring default settings under Wacom Pen settings has reenabled the pen and palm rejection appears to work again. Note: I installed recent Wacom FEEL drivers, which are the drivers that work with this model, among other tablet PCs with Wacom tech.

Just got the Yoga 900, and am in need of a stylus with palm rejectioin. I know the screen isnt digitized, and have looked everywhere. Does anyone know of a bluetooth stylus that is compatible with windows and has palm rejection? Everything I have find is for iOS and it makes me want to murder every Apple toting hipster.

I have a yoga 720 and a bamboo ink stylus for it. i had recently sent the unit in to get the hinges replaced as they were warped. I recieved the laptop back and did the latest windows 10 update, however now when i rest my palm on the screen to write it glitches causing what i write to not appear. This was not an issue before sending it in. I am wondering if this is possibly something caused by sending the laptop in or a software issue. It works fine when i write without placing my palm on the screen.

The X1 Yoga rejects touch as if it were a palm way too easily. When using the X1 in tablet mode, my thumb often is at an angle where the entire thumb is used to scroll through pages, however, the X1 sees this as a palm, rejecting the touch.  Heres a video detailing what I'm talking about. As a note, this does not happen at all on a Surface Pro 4, which actaully knows that I'm using a thumb not a palm. I mean how can the touchscreen mistake my thumb for how big a palm is? Not very happy as I use my X1 in tablet mode to browse the web quite often.

Answer:X1 Yoga palm rejection way too sensitive

Is there a way to dial back the palm detection sensitivity on the X1 Yoga?

I got my Yoga 260 around 10 days ago. I first updated my windows 10 to the new release (so I'm not sure if the problem was there from the begining). The pen is not working as it should be, the tip is not detected or detected by some offset (usually it goes into bottom of the screen besides taskbar). For example I start writing in onenote and suddenly instead of writing on the current line it is writing some wiggly things on the bottom of the page. This is not only happening in onenote or inking apps, even when I'm using the pen for selecting lines in a webpage, jumps happen.   Is this a pen problem? or display digitizer? Also I'm not sure if this is a driver problem or hardware problem. I tried to rollback to original installed windows 10 to test that, using factory resseting but I couldn't, windows keeps the upgrade. I checked the wacom driver it is recent 08/02/2016 even more recent than the one available on wacom's website (I tested both). I changed the pen and inking setting: made the handness to "right hand" and "Ignore touch input when I'm using my pen" to on, but nothing helped. It is really frustrating, because I mainly bought this notebook because of its stylus. So anyone else had the same problem? Any fixes for that?  Thanks

Hello, A shallow search turns up many results of people making claims of the "functionality" of capacitive styli, including a variety of generic, the Wacom Bamboo (?) and the Adonit Jot series. After watching a video on the Adonit Jot Script on an IPad, I grabbed one from Amazon, and was sorely disappointed.  Does it "work?"  Yes.  I can interact with the screen with the stylus, but without palm rejection, it's truly useless as a writing tool. So, at the risk of sounding redundant, does anyone know of a capacitive stylus that works with Windows 8 specifically the Twist hardware that also has palm rejection?  Thanks, Matt

Answer:Capacitive Stylus with palm rejection for the Twist (or windows 8)

Unsure why I can't edit my post.I spent some time researching the digitizer/touchscreen and figured out that it is made by a company called Atmel (looked up the PCI Vendor ID/VID from the HID-Compliant touchscreen in devmgmt.msc). It is of the maXTouch series, although I can't determine which class (I couldn't find the Product ID/PID).I did, however, figure out that Atmel makes a stylus that's compatible with a few classes of their digitizers called the maXStylus. Searching around on electronics suppliers, I learned quickly that, although being sold at the "low low price" of ~$5USD at several sites, that the minimum order is 6000, and requires a direct manufacturer order.I then wrote an email to the customer service people at Atmel. It's clear that they may or may not entertain my request for info, being that they are an B2B electronics manufacturer, not an B2C/end user vendor. In effort to find the stylus, I came across the fact that it is used in a few HP laptops (as well as a few others). The good news? Here's a youtube video of an "unboxing": https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jkSuBY35-1YHere's two HP links to the same exact model (one is a "smart buy" which basically means nothing for the part itself):HP Executive Tablet Gen2 Pen: http://h30094.www3.hp.com/product/sku/10754734/mfg_partno/F3G73AAHP Executive Tablet Gen2 Pen SmartBuy (~$10USD cheaper): http://h30094.www3.hp.com/product/sku/10754735/mfg_partno/F3G73UTThe bad news? Hi all, I'm new to here b/c I am interested in an s10-3t. The only thing that's bothering me now is the palm rejection issue. It is a multitouch screen, and didn't come with any stylus. If I use it for inking/writing only, I need to keep my hands up in the air...that's annoying... Is there a proper solution to this? I saw the posts about using different stylus but they don't seem to address the palm protection issue... Thanks!

I tested the digitizer of my TP Yoga against the one in the Surface 3 Pro. The TP Yoga compares pretty well. The only thing the Surface 3 Pro does much better is the palm detection. My TP Yoga has no palm detection whatsoever. It only detects if the pen tip is in close proximity and deactivates touch if it is. If I have the pen tip 2 cm or farther away and rest my palm still on the screen my palm causes strange zoom and pan gestures. Is there really no palm detection at all on TP Yoga or is there something wrong with mine? Thank you!

Trying out the Helix 2 right now. Shocked to find palm rejection nonexistent while writing in the standard input panel with stylus. Windows move around the screen, palm writes garbage characters, etc. Plus, no way to avoid constantly pushing home button under screen center with palm while entering text, interrupting everything. A total deal breaker. Is this common, or just my machine? Need to know within return period. (And this was my favorite of all machines! Bummer!) Wacom digitizer avoids this on other machines like Surface Pro, but not yours. Why?

If your pen is close enough to see the hover point appear, you shouldn't be able to move anything with touch. That's an easy test. If that works like it should, maybe your hover distance is small. How close do you need to get to see the cursor track the pen? I think it should be at least half an inch. If that also works, then maybe you need to adjust your writing style, putting the pen closer to the screen before laying your hand down.

I've got a non-active stylus matrix tablet, and I am getting a windows 10 mobile. I'd like to use one of those generic battery powered capacitive styluses with the very fine tip, to write on both.
Trouble is, unlike ios, I can't find many notetaking apps with a palm rest, or palm rejection algorithm.
Seems like, for an OS so much ink and stylus support, this should exist for people without the stylus matrix.
Anyone know of any apps with software palm rejection, or a palm rest area, or similar?
Heck even a painting/drawing one would be something. Cheers :)

I could really use your help! I use OneNote on my Yoga 14 (Type 20FY) to take notes in veterinary school and I've had an issue for the past year or so. While in tablet mode, if I'm using the stylus pen, it will take anywhere from 2 to 15 seconds after removing the pen from the screen to allow input with a finger. Sometimes it takes even longer than that and I have to either unfold the screen or write with the pen again to finally get it to toggle palm rejection off again. Here's a link to a video I made a few minutes ago of the issue https://youtu.be/-RPDYB96GXk  I usually just keep the computer folded over my left arm while writing with my right so that I can unfold it quickly and refold it, but this slows my note-taking drastically and drives me crazy! Even when everything is running perfectly, my classes cover so much material that I can't keep up, so this is really an issue for me.  This problem NEVER occurs when the computer is in laptop mode - the palm rejection toggling happens instantly every single time while in laptop mode. This makes me believe it might be a setting somewhere in the tablet mode code. Any suggestions are welcome and I'd be completely fine with disabling tablet mode entirely if that's possible. Below is some info on the system, if you need more info, let me know!Yoga 14 (Type 20FY)64 bit Windows 10 HomeMicrosoft OneNote 2016 MSO (16.0.8528.2126) 32 bit

I called tech support and they flat out told me that the Flex screen is only compatible for fingers. Styluses are not supposed to be used. After a conversation of me explaining what a stylus is, tech support said that the digitizer is not there for a stylus and that bluetooth should not be used for a stylus. Can someone tell me what kind of stylus has full capability on the Flex 3-1470 where I can use palm rejection and pressure recognition. If you know, from experience, or knowledge of the engineering of the touchscreen, what category of stylus can be used, I would appreciate suggestions.

Ok...this issue is really starting to drive me nuts.  Hopefully someone can help! I have a 2015 X1 Carbon.  Nearly every time I try to type a message in Outlook 2013, my palm brushes up against the Touchpad upper left corner and Outlook stops whatever I'm doing and changes mailboxes.   Apparently, Outlook 2013 lets you switch mailboxes by one finger tapping the upper left and bottom left portion of the Touchpad and I have multiple mailboxes. I've turned Palm Check up to "Max" in the Synaptics Touchpad Settings, turned off one finger gestures and even set the Edge Tap and Gesture Filtering on so much that you can't use any gestures on the touchpad.  Still, Outlook seems to override all of that and still allows single taps to change mailboxes and, accordingly, inadvertant Palm Checks while typing. The solution in my eyes would be to turn off  all Outlook 2013 touchpad gestures but it doesn't appear you can control that within Outlook.  Windows 8 gestures (Edge Swipes) are already turned off. Any other thoughts?   I don't seem to have this issue typing in any other program which is weird.  I typed out this plea for help just fine in my browser.  I did get my keyboard replaced last week (for a bad key that came from the factory) and it seems to have become much worse with that but it was there before.  I checked the Lenovo website and I'm on the latest Synaptics driver : 18.1.27.14 Could it be a ... My Yoga 14 makes very distractig creaking noises under normal hand weight (right hand) when typing. Is this a common issue or can I expect a device without that issue if I return it for a new one?

Answer:Yoga 14: Creaking noise under right palm

Hi

I don't have that creaking noise on my TPY 14 on the right palm with normal hand weight, but I noticed that this model has some creaking/squeaking noise on the plastic if you make some preasure on the right just over the power button. I also notice some creaking noise on the top left just on the SDCard slot if you make some preasure there.  I'm thinking that those two creaking noises are part of the design of the machine.

I found that I often unintentionally triggered the mouse right-button click when using the trackpad.  I'd like to see if anyone has a solution. I'm right handed.  When I click on the left "button" on the lower trackpad area, part of my palm often touches the right button area.  This registers as a right-click, even if there is no pressure being delivered to the right button area from my hand. You can try this yourself with two hands: place your left index finger on the left button area and the right index finger on the right button area.  While keeping your right finger just touching the button surface (no pressure), depress the left finger to click.  You'll then see a right-button click event registering (say, if you clicked on your browser page, the right-button menu would pop-up). For me, this is annoying, as I have to learn to raise my palm for my left-button click to properly register. I currently have installed Synaptics driver v16.2.21.4 19Nov12 (not sure where I got it from, some Yoga 13-specific thread or Lenovo driver download page). Does anyone know a solution to this? ----------------Update: I've just tried installing the latest driver direct from synaptics.com v16.3.15.1 25Feb13.  The frequency of the unintentional right-button click is dramatically lessened.  If I tried hard to do it, perhaps I can get it to right-click 1 out of 7 times with two index fingers.  So, the latest driver seems to w... Hi all, This is my first ThinkPad in a long time.  I've owned a used ThinkPad R60 and T40 for some time now.  They are built like tanks. The Edge feels a little flimsier than old-school ThinkPads, and am wondering if anyone has had any problems with the palm rest becoming discolored after heavy usage.  I'm thinking about getting some cheesy palm rest protectors but not sure if it's really necessary.

I recently purchases the Lenovo Yoga 3 14 Inch and have found that I am unable to both disable palm tracking or use the two fingered right click tap function. I have gone into the mouse settings but still no help, it says that two finger tap is enabled but will not function, all the other touchpad gestures work perfectly. I read to press the power button 10 times and hold it on the tenth time and to unscrew the palm rest to unplug the little battery for 30 seconds. That is the only way I can get it to boot now. I looked at it closer and to get it to start i don't press the power button at all. I unplug the power cord and after unplugging the CMOS battery for awhile i just plug the power cord back in and it starts up. The first thing i see as it starts up is an error message about a bad CMOS checksum and then i have to change the date/time in the BIOS or it yells at me to do it. After all that it boots into windows 7. Once it is in windows no matter what i do to change the settings of what the power button does it still doesn't do anything. I can restart it fine but once i shut it down it the CMOS battery needs to be reset to get it going again.

Greetings: I have a Thinkpad Yoga (Type 20CD, Model 00B1US) that shipped with Windows 8 Pro installed.  I later upgraded to Windows 10 Pro.  I need to reformat as the machine is sluggish at times.   Any suggestions/tips for doing a complete reformat of the hard drive and then a clean install using Windows 10 Pro?  My concern is impacting the BIOS or losing any of the Lenovo drivers for things like the function keys, keyboard light, screen digitizer, etc.  I am assuming simply reinstalling Windows 10 Pro (instead of reformatting and then reinstalling Windows 10 Pro) will not provide the performance boost I am looking for. Thank you in advance for your input.

I uninstalled the windows 8.1 that came with my Thinkpad Yoga to installe windows 7 64-bit because there was no support for Power Manager ( a tool that allows you to charge your battery only upto a certain percentage (eg 40%) which helps reduce battery aging when the notebook is mostly operated on AC power).Doing that required me to fully clean the Hard-disk during the installation process.I installed almost all of the drivers available on  http://support.lenovo.com/us/en/products/laptops-and-netbooks/thinkpad-yoga-series-laptops/thinkpad-...for thinkpad yoga and windows 7 64 bit.Happily, this provided me the Power manager, and I can use it just as I wanted. However, all these has brought in additional issues which are listed below:  1. The touch pad right click doesn't work. Only two finger tap works as right click.2. The touch pad gestures for zoom and scroll doesn't work at all.3. The screen auto-rotate doesn't work.4. The touch screen gesture for zoom doesn't work. I did install the ultra-nav and screen-rotate drivers, but I get error messages regarding synaptics ... not working and also sensor driver not working during the windows startup. Any help please? Thank you.

Answer:Issues with Thinkpad yoga on Windows 7 64-bit

Follow up: After going through windows update and installing windows 7 service pack 1, some of the issues have been resolved. The screen auto rotates based on device orientation. The two finger scroll and zoom works on the touchpad. The physical right click still doesn't work. (The two finger tap for right-click is working). One important feature that I still find mssing is that the two finger pinch to zoom doesn't work on the Touchscreen (it works in Touchpad though). So, when I am browsing websites on Tablet mode, there is no way to zoom in! Thanks.

I'd like to ask about your experience with updating your 2nd generation Thinkpad Yoga 12 laptops from Windows 8.1 to Windows 10. I've seen the black screen problem described, that seems to be an issue with the Synaptics driver and hopefully has been fixed with the current latest release of the synaptics driver from the synaptics site.  According to the discussion thread here anyway. But have you encountered any other issues?  Has Windows 10 been a positive upgrade for battery life?  Any tips on steps before upgrading, such as any driver incompatibility and setting up a back-up? My Yoga 12 is the variety with an i5 5300U and a "hybrid" 16GB SSD + 500GB HDD. Thanks!

Answer:Thinkpad yoga 14 little issues after windows 10

Hi danielmb007 It took me some time to stabilize Windows 10 on the TPY 14 (20DM008UUS). I went into a "driver updating rampage" for it and I have it stabilized right now. This are my tips to update the drivers on my Thinkpad Yoga, but you can decide how deep you want to go for driver updating:1) Try first Windows Update and update all the drivers and Patches2) Try Lenovo System Update to get any new/missing drivers.3) Try to install Lenovo Settings and Lenovo Companion from the Windows App Store, Lenovo Companion also has a "update driver search"4) Sometimes all that software does not recognize some updated / missing driver. Check Lenovo's Support Site and search for your specific model drivers. This will be the Lenovo supported drivers, but if you want to look for other update drivers directly from the manufacturer (AS IS) you can try:5) Depending on the machine chipset/processor, you can try Intel Driver Update Utility, or AMD Update Utility.6) I also like to use DriverEasy, which offers a a decent driver update recognition for free, but also tries to sell you the full version. Just be warned that the drivers that are not from the Lenovo support site are "AS IS" and under your own risk, I install them since I'm confortable installing, and un-installing Windows drivers, remember that a wrong driver may turn up Windows un-usable. Regards

Hello, When I suspend my laptop (windows 10.1 -> sleep), I can't wake it up. The red led is in sleep mode but the switch on/off button does nothing. The only way out is a long press on the switch on/off button to shutdown the laptop and start it back normally. What could it be? Is there another way to wake up the laptop? Thank you for your help! Cheers,

Answer:Thinkpad Yoga 260 install windows 10

if it originally  came with win10, it has a license in the BIOS.  You can create a USB stick on a different machine (free) and install it.

Ever since I installed windows 10 the throttling on my yoga 15 has been rediculous. If the computer remotly heats up the programs that I am using slow down to a crawl randomly. This is especially evident on steam games and other heavy programs that require the dedicated graphics card. I have tried everything from reinstalling the nvidia drivers, updating the bios, clean installing windows 10, anything. I have not been able to find a solution for this and its getting quite annoying having my fps drop from 90 or 60 yo 5 every few seconds when before I could keep a solid 60+. Sometimes the fan revs up and down as my frame rates goes up and down. Has anyone found a solution for this? Or has Lenovo done released anything?

I've got a Roku Streaming Stick which worked very well to mirror my screen or extend the desktop of my Thinkpad Yoga 15 (with dual graphics Intel HD Graphics 5500 and NVIDIA GeForce M840) under Windows 8.1Pro 64bit.But it does not work anymore with Windows 10Pro 64bit.I can connect, but the screen stays black. It's not a Windows 10 or Roku problem as such as it still works just fine with my Lenovo TPT8 and Lenovo TPT10 with Windows 10. I've tried deactivating the secondary graphics card, I've updated to the latest Intel WiDi drivers, I've run Lenovo Update and Drivers tool, so all drivers should be up to date.

I have a Thinkpad Yoga X1, windows 10, all updates installed. It fires random window key presses while using the computer, very regularly. This causes severe interruption to the use of the laptop. I don't see any phantom touches on the screen, but it does have a tough windows key outside the screen area, and I'm wondering if that does the phantom touches. Any ideas? What should I try?

Has anyone else had issues with Thinkpad Yoga 15 orientation not working windows 10?I realize the lenovo support page states it should be in tablet mode in windows 10 and the device itself for the orientation tile to appear, but The windows 10 orientation tile is not even appearing.I know there is a rotation lock button on the side of the laptop, nothing seems to appear when pushing it.I can manually set the orientation through Intel control panel settings and through windows 10 display settings.I've tried in table mode, restarting the laptop in tablet mode, still doesn't work. The SensorService is running in services. Hi Can you check the Windows "Device Manager" and see if by any chance is there a device that is not recognize or does not has the correct drivers? I have a Thinkpad Yoga 14 and there is a driver that detects if it on laptop or slate mode. When it came to driver I always try:1)"System Update" utility from Lenovo. If you do not have it already installed check it here. 2) The Intel Driver Update Utility,. to update Intel drivers. AMD has his own tool. (Under your own risk) 3) If you have experience installing drivers on Windows. I found it very usefull to use DriverEasy. It offers good enought (freeware) driver recognition of the things installed on your machine. But please notice that installing the wrong driver may screw things up. (Under your own risk) Remember that Intel Driver Update Utility and DriverEasy are not supported by Lenovo, this is only a suggestion to try to get the latest driver for your machine. Regards

Just got my thinkpad today in the mail. I went about uninstalling the included Norton antivirus trial with the intention of turning on windows defender. I uninstalled Norton in the control panel and then used Norton's removal tool just to make sure.

When I tried to turn windows defender on in action center nothing happened. No messages or pop ups or anything. After some googling I was able to edit a defender registry file to let me turn it on. When I try to turn it on now the following happens:

So I've had this Yoga 12 for about 3 moths now. In the past month, after I installed a new windows update, the touchpad and trackpoint would not work, like it was disabled. I tried uninstalling the driver and reinstalling-- did not work. I even reset the computer. STILL DID NOT WORK. So I ran the driver verifier which told me that the one of Lenovo products had problem with it--I don't remember which one-- so I uninstalled it. Still didn't work. After all that, I tried for the last time to uninstall the synaptics drive. When I uninstalled it... it was still there! I don't know how, but it was still there and now the touchpad and trackpoint both works. Well, sporadically. It will work for a few minutes, then won't work for a few minutes (or more). So.. that's where I am now (actually, right now, as I am writing this, only the trackpoint is working. oop nvm it stopped working). Any thoughts on how to fix this problem? Thanks! Also, when the touchpad & trackpoint works, the windows buttons are more condensed, while when it doesn't work, the buttons are more spread out (see below links). "condensed""spread out" p.s. also, does anybody's computer lag severely when you press the CapsLock button?? Which kind of disables the keyboard for a solid 7 seconds???

According to your full model number, I can recommend you first to check the Lenovo support site for your model and update the latest drivers.

But there had been also reports that some trackpads of the Thinkpad Yoga 12 had some issues ( ThinkPad Yoga 12 manufactured prior to October 2015. )
Here it is the link about it, please check it out.

Hello, I have been having a large amount of trouble with my Thinkpad Yoga in that I have not been able to access the majority of the applications for a while.  I have tried solving the problem, however after a number of failed attempts, I decided I would rather get rid of the bloatware anyway and do a clean re-install. However, I am unable to perform a clean reinstall as no media came with my purchase.  Where can I get a copy of windows 8.1 to perform a clean reinstall?

Hi, After upgrade to Windows 10 I noticed a major bug in touchpad driver. If you turn on TPY (from complete shutdown or sleep/hibernation), while leptop is tilted to one side, then the touchpad works in right angle to the regular finger movements. The incorrect movement of pointer will not resolve unless you turn on TPY again in a complete horizontal setting. The bug is only seen in Windows 10 and I did not have this bug in Windows 8.1. I'm using the latest driver: Synaptics ThinkPad UltraNav Driver Version 19.0.17. 2 Anybody tried this so far?I wish Lenovo solve the issue soon. Thanks,Amir

Answer:Thinkpad Yoga: Plugged in not charging. Windows 8.1

Hi I have had the same problem - got my Thinkpad Yoga on the 2/1/14. Windows 8.1 OS. The initial power management option in 'Lenovo settings' when I installed the OS provided for an option to 'Automatically optimize for battery life? - which I have just read elsewhere was supposedly removed as it had issues with Windows 8.1 (I could not agreee more) and got it resolved myself through some trial and error and retesting to prove the bug was repeatable for my own peace of mind as to the cause of the error. The only reason I am telling you the above is because you might have got yourself where you are by doing what I did - and that reverting out is not as simple as turning off that 'Automatically optimize for battery life? back to 'Full power'. I assume the 'Lenovo settings' software is dynamically provided over the internet, because that 'Automatically optimize for battery life? power menu option has now (fortunately) gone missing in the past 36 hours. HOWEVER, as I am having numerous OS blue screen of death issues, I reloaded the OS from scratch off the recovery drive to try and stabilise the OS and experienced the exact same issue with the machine not recharging after the OS was reinstalled. My best guess is that they have progammed the same power management bug into the recovery disk. Here is how I got it charging again... 1. Select 'Control Panel' under the Windows desktop (hold down the Windows keyboard ... Read more

Hi,

You don't need to know the key.  It will be picked up during install automatically as long as you're installing the same version that shipped with the machine.  Either Lenovo or Microsoft media will work.

The key is not required during reset, nor is it required when installing from Microsoft media.

Do make your recovery media when you get your machine

Since I've installed Windows 10 on my ThinkPad Yoga S1 (20C0-S0AX00), I've never been able to get audio via HDMI working. In theory, it looks like it's all fine: ? In practice, however, no audio is transmitted via HDMI (I tried it with different monitors), and the video signal of any application trying to play audio over HDMI is stuttering ? as if it's trying to sync audio and video, but failing for some reason. As soon as the output device is changed, the video plays smoothly again. Changing the "Default Format" did not change anything. Currently, "16 bit, 48000 Hz (DVD quality)" is selected. A support ticket I opened quickly after upgrading to Windows 10 promised a driver update to fix this. A more recent ticket advised me to revert to the stock Windows 8.1 installation instead, which I refuse to do. Does anyone have an idea how to fix this issue?

Answer:ThinkPad Yoga S1 - No sound via HDMI on Windows 10

Hi

I have a different Thinkpad Yoga. Checking your issue I wonder if you would like to do some "trial and error" like:

1) Try a different HDMI cable, you never know.
2) Check the driver version of you Intel Display Audio. Here it is mine:
?
3) Just in case check the Lenovo Support site for your model and try updating the Intel Video and Realtek drivers just in case.

This is only that cames to my mind right now.

I updated to Windows 10 last night on my brand new TPY 14 and afterwards the keyboard, trackpad and trackpoint don't work. In fact, as far as I can tell, only the function key works -- at least, turning on the keyboard backlight (fn-space) does. I've tried updating drivers but it says it's up to date. The Device Manager says the keyboard is working fine but it says that "Thinkpad UltraNav" cannot start (code 10), with this explanation: "Insufficient system resources exist to complete the API". Can anyone  give my any suggestions on this? It's pretty frustrating to have the keyboard die less than a day after buying the computer.

Im trying to do a Clean Install on my Thinkpad Yoga S1, everytime I get an error "windows cannot be installed to this disk" What do I need to do in order to fix this problem?

Answer:Thinkpad Yoga Wont Install Windows 7

Is there more to the error message?  Perhaps "...the selected disk is of the gpt partition style"

If so, you're booted in legacy mode but trying to install to a GPT drive.

Re-start the installer, hit SHIFT+F10 to bring up a command window, then type DISKPART.  Once diskpart is running type "list disk" then "select disk xyz" where xyz is your HDD as displayed by list.  Then type "clean".  Then "exit" and close the command window.

That should un-initialize the drive and allow the installer to format it MBR style.

Alternatively you could boot in UEFI mode and install Win 7 on the GPT-formatted drive.

My Thinkpad Yoga 14 is now basically a standalone CPU, and not a laptop/tablet since my Windows 10 upgrade.  The speakers did not work -- that was easy to fix.  The keyboard on the laptop will not work, and the tablet will not rotate.  I have tried so many suggestions to fix it, but it is now rendered just a cpu with external keyboard, mouse and monitor.  This is very disappointing.  Any ideas on how to fix the keyboard and tablet rotation features?

Hello All, here is a good one:  (Maby a MOD will give this to development to take a look at this, unless someone hasseen this before????....) I have Several Thinkpad Yogas (20CDCTO1WW), After installing Win10 1607 & Microsoft Office (tried 2010 - 2016)All experience the same problem. If you open MS Word (Or Excel) Click insert, then select object, select object type - Microsoft Equation 3.0 & selectok, you cannot select any symbols.  When Clicking any button, it is like the calibration is way off.If you click the title bar to move the equation symbols, the bar moves down and to the left. I have confirmed this is something to do with the Windows 10 1607 & the Yoga.  The previous version of Win 10 itworked properly.  I also tried this on various models of Desktops  & Win 10 1607 and it works properly. I have tried different drivers, versions of Word, BIOS,  external mouse, but it makes no difference,  It has something to do with Win 10 1607 (Build 14393.222) & Yoga or so it seems. Maybe some type of driver issue?, if anyone has any clues I would appreciate it.           Thanks in advance!

Hi, First post, I hope this is the correct spot, this is more Windows10 rather than X1 Yoga specific per se... If I reset Windows 10 from the recovery partition, will this include ALL the software included when I first received the laptop (including any Lenovo add ons)?  In other words, does it reset Windows to *exactly* the way it was when I received it from the factory?  I need the details on how Lenovo sets up the recovery partition. I haven't had the laptop long, and I'm happy to reinstall what little I've done since receiving it (mainly Office 365). (More details:  I'm setting it up to dual boot Windows and Linux.  I want to fix the bootloader partition.  There are other approaches I could use, but am happy to reset Windows as long as Lenovo has set the recovery partition to be identical to factory settings.  I'll create a recovery disk and system backup after I do the reset, so I have additional options in the future.)

Hello I bought a Yoga X1 last year and it was working fine until about 3 weeks ago. For unknown reasons - possibly because of some Windows 10 update or because I installed a "nightly built" of the VLC video player the touchscreen stopped working. Windows 10 could not find a driver anymore (claiming that the driver it found is not suitable for this version of windows or womething like that). Same happened with the Lenovo driver for the device from the Lenovo website. I always hat the device marked yellow and "not working properly" in the device manager. I finally found in a forum aomeone pointing to a different driver for the Xoga X1's Wacom device and installed it. Now it shows up in the Device manager without Problems, but I still have no touch functionality. I deinstalled VLC alread and updated Win 10 again - still no luck. do I need some additional driver to connect the device that is recognized in the Device manager with Windows 10 somehow? Or activate it? I booted from a USB rescue stick for Win 10 and there the touch functionality was ok - so its not a hardware issue! Thank you.

Hi! Just entered the community as i recently bought a lenovo thinkpad S1 yoga. i am very satisfied with it overall, but right now there is one thing that bothers me. It came preinstalled with windows 7. Now, i did get recovery CDs with windows 8, but i do not currently have an external DVD to make use of them. Now, my first thought was that there must be a way of installing windows 8 without the discs, because of the windows 8 sticker at the bottom of the Unit that basically says it has (had) windows 8 at some point, but i havent yet found a solution.Would anyone know how to move on from this point? except from bying the external dvd-reader and use the CDs? cheers

Hi,

When I connect Thinkpad Yoga (model 20CD00B1US) to the onelink dock, the stylus stops working.

In order to enable the stylus and Wacom driver following 2 options/ workarounds:
1)  Manually stop and restart the Wacom ISD Service
2) or reboot the machine while the Onelink dock is attached.

I'm using the latest 7.2.0-4 Wacom driver version, all latest lenovo software installed installed on the machine.

Both above mentioned workarounds are ugly, does anybody have a better suggestion to fix this issue?

Had the same issue - a BIOS update just release about a week ago fixed it for me.

I posted a similar question earlier and people referred me to the Yoga (much appreciated).  However, I was interested in the 2.6 lb carbon version with touch screen capabilities.  Asus has a Spin 7 model that is very good at 2.65lb, but I miss the red mouse toggle in the middle of the keyboard and Asus's track pad was designed too large....causing unintended tapping.  The Yoga, while nice, is heavier than I was looking for.  The 14 inch screen is about 3.3lb? the 12 inch at 3? I thought that some of the earlier Thinkpad Carbons had touch screen and was hoping they would make a return soon.  Thanks,

I bought the Yoga 11e (that doesnt come with a stylus) because I wanted to draw on it but when I used my stylus on Autodesk, Manga Studio, and Sai, there was no pressure sensitivity. Apparently I need a Wacom Feel Driver but on setup it said "a supported tablet was not found on the system". I'm losing my calm here, the thing I want to function the most is the only thing not working at all. Please somebody tell me what to do for pressure sentivity screen.

Hi! We have a number of ThinkPad Yoga 11e, most of them are about 1.5 years old and we're currently updating their Windows 10 image and BIOS. Imaging process completes fine, but updating the BIOS has caused us a lot of issues. When updating BIOS from within Windows with the latest BIOS Update Utility (1.26) from Lenovo's website the laptops crash with a blue screen of death (BSOD). We then tried all previous BIOS versions (from 1.10 and up), but they all crashed too. The current BIOS version on the laptops is 1.10, but even that failed. We initially ran the installer from our network drive with the installer file renamed for easier identification. We have since tried renaming the installer file back to the original name and running it locally. Have also tried running it only with wireless enabled, running only with Ethernet enabled. At one point we thought there might have been another installation process running in the background (drivers, Windows Update), so made sure that had all completed. The BIOS upgrade still crashed the laptop. We have been unable to pinpoint any of the above scenarios to be the culprit, as now some of them work randomly. Two machines side by side, one will work and the other one will fail. We're pulling our hair out with this one. Has anyone else had this experience and have you found what steps need to be taken to successfully complete the BIOS upgrade every time?

Answer:ThinkPad Yoga 11e - BSOD when updating BIOS from Windows

Does Windows create an DMP (or MDMP) file after the BSOD?
If so, can you zip it up and put it on dropbox/onedrive/etc so I can take a look?
I have heard of a similar issue previously (on a different system) and it was caused by AV/security software.

Hi everyone. My Thinkpad (Yoga 12.5, WINDOWS 10) screen acting strangely. It works, then touch function stops. It starts working again when I do enable/disable HID touchscreen in device manager. Works sometimes 10 minutes, sometimes an hour or more, then stops again. Power saving option is OFF on this device. Drivers are all updated to the latest through Lenovo driver update process.Since it is partially fixed by driver enable / disable function, I suspect it is software and not hardware issue, however can not pinpoint it. Other clues to solve this mistery: 1)It is plugged in (not on battery) 2) HID-compliant touch screen driver is Microsoft version (10.0.16299.15) Driver date 6/21/2006 (Maybe old?) I hope somebody can help.Thank you.

I've had this laptop for about a day now, and the dedicated windows button (fixed feature button) has simply stopped working. It actually did resume functioning briefly after a restart, but now it entirely doesn't work, sans restart and all. (I also had a brief issue with the autorotation not working, which has since not occured.) The ACPI fixed feature button device appears in the device manager, and claims no driver files are required or installed for this device, but that "This device is working properly." *edit* my product ID is: ThinkPad Yoga 20CD00B1US

Hey. I have a Yoga 15 ThinkPad Notebook and have been having an issue. The issue occurs randomly through use (even during boot and safe mode). The laptop will vibrate and the system will act as if the windows key has been pressed. Pressing the windows key itself or touching the screen does not cause the vibrate function to occur so I'm not sure where this is coming from? If I'm using TeamViewer to view another PC from the Yoga 15, the remote terminal reacts similarly; acting as if the windows key has been pressed (at random intervals, sometimes not for 10-20 minutes, other times 3+ successively in a short period. Because it even occurs during boot without the OS being loaded I imagine it is a hardware issue, is there a particular peripheral that would cause the vibrate and windows key hit that I could disable? Previously on Windows 8.1 and now Windows 10, this issue has persisted through both operating systems. Any advice would be nice. Thanks    ----------Edit:Moments after posting I realized that there is a windows logo on the screen panel bezel and if I touch that the laptop vibrates. Is there any way to disable this particular part of the digitizer? Or does it have a specific HID driver that I can disable? Also, this does occur in all orientations and screen modes.

Unfortunately, I was unable to locate what this device is listed as under Device Manager. If you do find it then there is the possibility to disable the vibration device.

Have a good day.

Answer:No HDMI Audio after Windows 10 upgrade Thinkpad Yoga S1

Hi

Have you also tried to check con "Control Panel - Sound" ? On the "Playback" tab you can see all the "sound output" device, included the HDMI to see which one is working. You can also right click it and select "test". If the HDMI output sound does not show there, it may be a drivers issue.

I always try to keep the drivers updated against the Lenovo support site for my model. I try to update drivers on this order.
1) Use Windows Update
2) Use Lenovo System Update
3) Install Lenovo Companion and Lenovo Settings
4) Sometimes this tools miss to install some updated drivers, so I also try the Support site.

I hope this can give you some hints.

Regards

Hi A small crack has developed on the bottom edge of the bezel, in the centre, directly below the Windows button. The laptop hasn't been dropped or banged. Has anyone else experienced this, and if so, did it get worse or cause any other issues?  Will my warranty be affected if I have a future issue, and it's considered that there is existing damage? Thanks Rob

Hello everyone, Yesterday I installed Windows 10 on my Thinkpad Yoga (first generation) with clean install. Everything works fine except wifi in tablet mode. Every time I twist my yoga (i.e. go into tablet mode physically) wifi stops working. When I twist against to laptop again, wifi comes back. Does everyone knows this issue? Thanks a lot for your time. Greeting from Germany

I am trying to change the layout and setup of the tiles on my Windows 10 start menu, and it freezes sometimes, and works at others ... but it eventually resets (for example, after a restart). It's like the change isn't permanent and it goes back to what it was. I would like to be about to make the change 'stick'. Any ideas?

Answer:Thinkpad Yoga - Sleep / Power Issue With Windows 10

Hi Which is the issue? It does not sleep or power down? or it sleeps too much? I'm not sure but I will check the "Edit Power Plan" on Windows first, if that is not working properly I will try first updating the Lenovo Power Management drivers. Regards

I wonder if anyone else is having issues with windows 10 starting up slowly and lagging for 2-5 minutes. The desktop takes a while to load as does the task bar at the bottom of the screen. During these 2-5 minutes programs will start up slowly. The startup times on Windows 10 are very dissapointing compared to windows 8.1.

Answer:Lenovo Thinkpad Yoga 14 Windows 10 Slow Start Up

How did you upgrade to Windows 10? Did you do a clean install or keep your old programs and files? Sounds like you will need to do a clean install preferably from a USB drive using Microsoft's tool and then individually re-install the Lenovo apps from the Lenovo support page for Thinkpad Yoga 14. While I'm still having some issues myself, the clean install did get the boot up times and general performance back up to normal.  http://winsupersite.com/windows-10/windows-10-clean-install-using-media-creation-tool#slide-0-field_...

Hi,The default font on the thinkpad yoga type 20C0 FHD is too small. Am I alone having this default setting? When increasing text to 150% (Large), even some (but not all) windows components become blurred, and not only third party applications. Did this happened to you guys?I searched for a solution with DPI settings disabled for each app, but it does not work that well, and I do not know how to disable dpi settings for windows popup windows. For instance, for fonts windows-control panel is fine-Even viewer blurred-System Properties popup is blurredThanks for any solution that comes up, also if others experience this problem. Microsoft's response points at third parties, so this does not apply here. It is a bit disappointing for 2k? latpop to have such basic problems, I wonder why lenovo did not use a larger font as a default before shipping, and why didn't they fix this issue.

Using Windows 7, Windows Live Mail. When forwarding emails, I get a lot of popups saying the pictures could not be found, do I want to send the message anyway. Is there anything that can be done about this

Answer:Windows Live Mail Picture Rejection

Maybe you need to adjust your security settings.

The below fix depends on what version of the software you have.

----

In LiveMail, clear the “Block images and other external content in HTML email” checkbox, by doing the following:
Open the software
Click on Tools
Click Options.
Switch to Security tab.
Clear the box that says “Block images and other external content in HTML email”
Click OK.

That process may not work, but it's worth a try (also, you may not have a "tools" option in your version)

----

See if that helps.

I just bought a Yoga S1 20CD-00E4FR win7 is the default OS and the recovery partition contain windows 7. There were 4 DVDs in the package for windows 8.1. I tried to boot with an external DVD and it works, but after I choose the language and agree terms there is a window with the title Product Recovery and the message is Recovery failed I tried to copy the DVD (with another DVD drive to be sure) on a bootable usb key and the same problem happens. I wonder if they give me wrong DVDs, or if the first DVD is corrupted, or if it comes from my new laptop hardware ? Is there another option to install windows 8.1 ? Additionnal informations : They have numbers so you follow an order, the number 1 is windows 8.1 recovery media for windows 8.1 products (which is weird because my default OS is win7) the number 1 contain 2DVDs with the same title and you can read Disk 1 of 2 and Disk 2 of 2 on them.Number 2 is Operatin System Recovery Disc Windows 8.1 Pro (OEM activation 3.0 required)Number 3 is windows 8.1 recovery media for windows 8.1 productsI tried to boot on another DVD but it only boot with the first one (disk 1 of 2 only).I can clearly read on my seller's website Microsoft Windows 7 Professional 64 bits installed + Windows 8.1 Pro 64 bits licence So I guess I am supposed to be able to install windows 8.1 without troubles.

Does the surface of the DVD look damaged? Maybe try a surface test on the media?https://www.raymond.cc/blog/test-cd-or-dvd-readability-by-running-surface-scan-and-file-test/
