Errors in Event Log show DCOM request from windowsshell which is being blocked because of local activation isn't allowed. Should I grant access?

Question: Errors in Event Log show DCOM request from windowsshell which is being blocked because of local activation isn't allowed. Should I grant access?

I wanted to deal with these error in my event viewer that reads
The machine-default permission settings do not grant Local Activation permission for the COM Server application with CLSID
{9BA05972-F6A8-11CF-A442-00A0C90A8F39}
and APPID
{9BA05972-F6A8-11CF-A442-00A0C90A8F39}
to the user user-PC\user SID (S-1-5-21-2307592411-71507017-1769733011-1000) from address LocalHost (Using LRPC). This security permission can be modified using the Component Services administrative tool.

The CLSID is from windows shell. Should I allow local activation or is this a risk because a malevolent program could be making these request?

Preferred Solution: Errors in Event Log show DCOM request from windowsshell which is being blocked because of local activation isn't allowed. Should I grant access?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

My error log is absolutely swamped with messages re "Cannot start DCOM". Several logged ever second, it seems. The error log is unreadable because of this.

Please is anyone able to talk me through how to get this resolved?

I was using Winamp 5.5 help (internet based) last night and kept getting interrupted by debugger. I opened administrative tools/services, and disabled MDM, and now I'm getting stacks of DCOM errors. Is it okay to just disable DCOM? It involves a registry edit and a couple of other steps, but I thought I should ask our members about it first.
Thanks.

There used to be a download you could run and it would do it for you. I know I saved it to floppy. I'm searching through my bookmarks for the link. That could take a while

Opened up my event viewr, and under System, I have tons of these:

DCOM was unable to communicate with the computer <computer name> using any of the configured protocols.

Event ID: 10009

The computer it's trying to communicate with is my laptop, which is off. The event is showing up at different increments, but is about 5-10 minutes apart each time, and there's hundres upon hundres of entries just from the past few days...

Anybody have an idea on how to fix this? Would like a solution as soon as I can, as I won't have access to my desktop for about a week and a half, as I'm going to Denver with a friend tomorrow.

Well, finally tracked down my problem with MSHTML.DLL thanks for Microsucks Tech support. Now im having a weird problem and cant find any real solid information on it.

When I boot up, 3 out of 5 times I will get some " You system has recovered from a serious error".

When I look in Event viewer, i get alot of errors with NVATABUS or DCOM. Im thinking it was my IDE controller, but not sure. Does it maybe have something to do with my SATA? I would like to track this down as it does bother me.

Here is a SS of it....anyone got any ideas?

Answer:Event viewer errors with nvatabus & DCOM

nvatabus is probably the drivers for your nvidia ata controller...those are known sometimes to be buggy. have you tried rolling back the driver on your IDE controller to the 'Standard Dual PCI IDE controller' and seeing if that helped any with stability?

I am still trying to figure out what is going on with my email and my provider (Roger.yahoo.com) has not answer for this problem. Can anyone help me fix the problems on my computer. Upgraded my PC to 8.1 and so far everythings finished I only have one problem left, an Event ID 10010 error is being logged 2 times after every log in:

The server {1B1F472E-3221-4826-97DB-2C2324D389AE} did not register with DCOM within the required timeout.

I tracked this down in the registry and its related to Skydrive. I'm using a local account and not a Microsoft one so Skydrive isn't working, could that be the cause?

Anyone else is getting these events logged on their 8.1 install?

If I switch to a Microsoft account for Windows 8.1, what will actually happen when I try to log in while my Internet connection is down? I didn't read up much on it but im generally not a friend of any kind of online-only features.

Best regards

Just chiming in - I got the same DCOM error on my 8.1 (upgraded from 8) box. I also use a local account and am not using SkyDrive. No fix yet, but the error seems to be just cosmetic and not causing any harm. Maybe someone else will have more advice on getting rid of it.

Hi, something is not right overall all of a sudden where the computer freezes at night and needs to be manually shut off. I've run some tools like RougeKiller and at one point it said I might have ZeroAccess rootkit but have not been able to show I have it or fix the overall problem. I noticed my windows log had many DCOM errors with description of "The server {9BA05972-F6A8-11CF-A442-00A0C90A8F39} did not register with DCOM within the required timeout." I looked in the registry and it just labels that as ShellWindows. When I searched google that error brought me here.

The ID of yours {316CDED5-E4AE-4B15-9113-7055D84DCC97} must be in that list. Have you attempt to find it?
I have search it on my lab computer(Windows 8.1)as below:

I tried to take the following steps to get the "full control" permission on a "System Volume Information" folder for a user account I had created.
right-click on the folder -> Properties -> Security tab -> Edit -> the "Permissions for <object>" dialog appears -> Add -> the "Select Users or Groups" dialog appears -> Enter the user account's name and press OK -> back to the "Permissions for <object>" dialoge -> select "Full control" for the newly added name -> Click on the Apply button
After I clicked on the Apply button, a dialoge entitled "Error Applying Security" appears, stating:

"An error occcurred while applying security information to:

...\<GUID><GUID>

Access is denied."

Behind that dialog, there was another dialog entitled "Windows Security", which states:

"Setting security information on <drive>:\System Volume Information\tracking.log"

I thought maybe Windows didn't like people to mess with such an important folder, and therefore refused to grant the permission. So, I cancelled the front "Error Applying Security" dialog. (There's another Continue button)

At this point, a new "Windows Security" dialogue popped up, saying:

Hi

The first error seems to be related to the second/third in connection with the DCOM config entries and security permissions (possibly raised to custom rather than auto). Though I'm not exactly sure at this stage. Whats the error code?

The 2nd/3rd are in connection with a Lexmark printing device.. is that what you have?

While I was reading a news article on CNET (I use the latest version of Pale Moon as my default browser) I noticed a pop up from Avira saying it had blocked access to the registry. There's no other info it provides, just that it prevented access.

I don't recall ever having anything like this happen before, at least not seemingly out of the blue or without manually editing the registry myself. My first thought was a drive-by download from a hijacked page but the extensions I use (uBlock Origin, uMatrix, and httpseverywhere) should theoretically prevent such things. While I can't remember exactly what other websites I may have had open I'm pretty sure I didn't visit any place unusual or out of the ordinary that I don't check most everyday without problem.
Other than that nothing out of the ordinary has happened since. I disconnected my PC from the Internet for a time anyway.

Things that might have caused it:
Shortly before this event happened I had created a Windows XP Home edition bootable USB using Rufus (specifically the portable edition which I ran from the desktop).
A few days earlier I had installed a few things - Microsoft .NET Framework 4.5.2, ScpToolkit, Microsoft Xbox 360 Accessories 1.2, and received an update for Pale Moon 26.2.0 (x86 en-US).
ScpToolkit might have something to do with it as I believe it has some automatic update features and the program itself deals with drivers and the registry.

I am using Windows 7 Ultimate 32-bit.

Answer:Suspicious Avira event - blocked access to registry

Welcome to BC...

If it is the ScpUpdater that Avira is blocking and you don't need the ScpToolkit to be in the Windows Startups then
you can disable the Startup and stop the updater. CCleaner's Tools will show you what is in Windows Startups and some Scheduled Tasks.
You can disable items in those lists about clicking on them and then choosing to Disable on the right.

You can find the updater using the Windows Services Console, too. Type in services.msc in the Start search box and press ENTER.

If you need help in deciding what to Disable do this:

Post the three lists mentioned below using CCleaner.
Open CCleaner and click on Tools. Choose Startups. On that page you will see a list of Windows Startups and at the top tabs for each browser and Scheduled Tasks.
At the bottom right of that page you will see a button when clicked will allow you to Copy and Paste the list of Windows Startups and Scheduled Tasks into your next
post. Please do that.

Open CCleaner and click on Tools. Choose Uninstall. On that page you will see a list of programs installed on your computer and at the bottom right of that page you
will see a button when clicked will allow you to Copy and Paste that list in your next post. Please do that.

i've been troubleshooting problems my PC is having with audio and in doing so, i came across these errors under System in Event Viewer

The device, \Device\Harddisk0\D, is not ready for access yet.

Are these common? Anything to worry about? I have XP SP2 with 2 SATA drives, no IDE (except IDE CD/DVD)...an Asus A8V Deluxe mobo with latest drivers all around.

Again, these happen in pairs...two always at the exact same time.

Is this showing me i have some problem somewhere? any clues? thanks!

Answer:Disk not ready for access errors in Event Viewer

No,it`s not a problem.Windows is always doing a zillion things in the background. The event viewer details every single one.

Good evening. Download TDSSKiller.zip from Kaspersky from here and save it to your Desktop. You will then need to extract the file(s) from the zipped folder. To do this: Right-click on the zipped folder and from the menu that appears, click on Extract All...In the Extraction Wizard window that opens, click on Next> and in the next window that appears, click on Next> again. In the final window, click on Finish Double click TDSSKiller.exe to begin. Click Start scan and allow the tool to do just that. One the scan has completed, if the tool detects anything the default action is Cure - please click on that and change it to Skip. Finally, click on Report and let me have the contents of the text file that will open.

After too many unexplained problems, I decided to reinstall Windows 8.1 Pro x64, and migrate off of SBS 2011 Standard. In addition to the primary workstation that can't read any event logs, I built five Server 2012 R2 servers (Hyper-V host, Active Directory
VM, Exchange 2013 VM, SQL Server 2014 VM, and WSUS VM).

I was diagnosing why my workstation's Outlook cannot reach the local Exchange Server.   I tried to look at the event logs, and found the
Event Viewer cannot open the event log or custom view.  Verify that Event Log service is running (it is) or the query is too long (whatever that indicates).  The request is not supported (50)
Looking at the directory of the event logs folder.  It appears that most logs are empty, which is understandable since it's a rebuilt installation.  I found a small number of Applications and Services Logs and it appears nothing was logged since
six days ago on 4/4/2016.   On support forums, I found many have this exact problem on Win 7, Win 8, and Win 10.  Of the solutions posted none of them would even execute on my Win 8.1 Pro x64 machine.  I tried clearing the event logs (WEVTUTIL
CL logfilename) and am told Failed to clear log .... The request is not supported.
It's very difficult to diagnose why Outlook 2013 cannot reach Exchange 2013, even if Outlook is installed on the Exchange server machine (just as a test).  The web-based Outlook owa, ecp, ... all work fine. ... Read more

I'll keep this short and sweet.
When I downloaded Kerio firewall a long time ago, I had Rpcss trying to access the net, found it strange so I checked with MG and was told it's not a big deal so I blocked it. But now I came across this quote:
Rpcss.exe is an executable of Microsoft Windows Operating System. It is responsible for Remote Procedure Call services on the local machine. These are public services available to the local network. This program is important for the stable and secure running of your computer and should not be terminated.
Uncle Bill at Microsoft. Anyways, should I grant it access or not? I'm running win98, without any problems except for the occasional glitch.

Answer:Should I grant it access?

Thanks Star17,
I don't have any of these on my puter. These appear to be business progs. I don't use my pc for work.

I just remembered one thing though, the reason I even found out that Rpcss existed was because after I installed Kerio I did a port scan (GRC) and I kept failing cause one of my ports showed an opening. Once I blocked Rpcss.exe from accessing the net I got a clean bill of health.

Still, I wonder if it's a big deal blocking it.

Maybe I am missing something, but here is what I did:

I had purchased 3 XP Pro UPGRADE CDs about 3-4 years ago.

I installed them on my computer, and two other computers for my family right after purchase.

The other day I reformatted my HD. I was reinstalling everything on my computer when I installed XP and used the wrong activation key to activate XP (I didn't look at the box label and I used one of the keys that was for my mother's computer)....however, I was still able to activate XP. I also downloaded the WGA and it didn't nag me that my copy might not be genuine.

How is this possible? Obviously our system's hardware is different, shouldn't it have denied me access to activation? Should I go back and re-install XP and use the correct activation key or is this not a big deal?

Answer:Activation key isn't valid but still allowed to activate?!

well if it was me for peace of mind i would reinstall with the proper code. that way you know things are all legal. besides if you have ever have a computer problem the tech will have the right code for the computer and will be able to fix it if its fixable.

I'm hoping we have some other NetAdmins in here. Seems like Networking is the best forum for this but it's technically at the OS level.

I have noticed that nay Domain user could access our Outlook Web Access with their NT login. It was supposed to just be the NT group we had created. I searched high and low in the MS KB and got nothing.

I ended up having to go into the C: root of the Exchange Box, find the ExchWeb folder and setting access rights to only System, Admin, Domain Admins, and Outlook Webb Group (the group we created). This seems to work, but sure seems ghetto to me. Is there an easier, more streamlined way to choose who has access to the Outlook Web Module?

Indeed it works perfectly well with an Administrator account.
With the User account, I can open the drive and play a DVD with no problem.
When I open the proprieties of the Drive in Admin mode, I find no Security tab.
So can someone please tell me how to grant access to the DVD Drives to a User account.
Thanks

Answer:How to Grant Access to DVD RW Drive?

In the My Computer screen in the Admin account click the drive and drag it to shared documents on the left side menu.
This will give use permission to all user accounts on the machine.

Several months back the drive in my Magnal 1.4ghz PC (bought via ABS PC) died. It's out of warranty, so I bought another drive and reinstalled XP from the included CD. This went well and I had 30 days to activate XP. This failed several times online. I verified the installed XP Key with 2 different key finder programs, then tried MS direct phone support. The voice was Indian and almost mechanically unresponsive and, though I followed all her instrux, she says I have an unauthorized copy. There seems to be no other way to contact MS.

Frustrated, the time began to pass. To stave off the 30 day lockout I changed the system BIOS date. This seems to work for now. There are 2 days to go instead of none. I assume I can do this again.

Why won't MS reactivate my installation? Do they think I've copied/pirated the CD? In any case, I bought the OS on CD with the PC as part of the deal. Why couldn't I put it on any machine so long as it's my ONLY machine? That's single use by my standards, just as it was under Win9x versions. I have a good, keyed copy of WinME and will use it if I have to. Happily, there's a bright spot: there are drivers for Win9x though the PC was "designed" for XP. That or go to Linux (and dump all my MS software) but I'd rather not quite yet. Any clues??

Hi Bob,

This issue can be caused due to the incorrect permission settings for the administrators group.

I would like to suggest you perform the following steps to troubleshoot the issue.

1. In the "Start" menu, locate "Command Prompt". Right-click and choose "Run as Administrator". If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.

2. Type the following commands, then press "Enter" to execute them one by one. Please note the space before the command and its parameter.

takeown /f C:\windows\system32\logfiles\wmi\rtbackup
cacls C:\windows\system32\logfiles\wmi\rtbackup /G administrators:F

I have windows vista and I am trying to download a software when I try and save it this is what I am suppose to do:
Go to Windows Explorer and navigate to the c:\program files\sixty second tax savings organizer folder

and in the folder find the file named RMPA2003.exe

highlight that file, and then "right click" using the right mouse button - to bring up the properties dialog box - and then tell Windows Vista to grant this exe file "full rights" / 'administrator rights" or whatever the dialog shows...

So I try to save this file in the "c" drive like it say's above and this is what I get:
C:/Program Files/Taxes/60secdemo.exe You do not have permission to save in this location. Contact the administrator to obtain permission.
Would you like to save this in Julie folder instead?

There is only one user on this computer, which makes me the admin. Why would it say this?
Also then I select ok save in Julie folder instead and after it is saved then I open the software and try to run it and this is what happens:
An unidentified software wants access to your computer....
Cancel or Allow

I click on allow and then this happens:
Could not initialize installation. File size expected=38359091, size returned=48848.
The parameter is incorrect.
What now?? What am I suppose to do?

You may have to install Word via her account--assuming her access to programs is blocked at this point. This way probably is the easiest way to proceed at this point. You can always uninstall Word later.

I have a admin account and a normal user account say XXX.

I have a drive (say Z), to which I want to restrict access to the user XXX. The user should be able to read the documents and view the videos in the drive. However, he should not be able to delete/modify the files in the drive or write new files to the drive.

I have gone through: Permissions - Allow or Deny Access to Users and Groups in Windows 8. I'm not comfortable with command prompts or registry keys, so I tried option three (Change Access Permissions in Advanced Security Properties).

By default, the user had permission for "Read, Read & execute, List folder contents" only. However, even with these I found that the user could delete and modify the files/folders in drive Z. So, I denied the following: "Create file/folders, write attributes/extended attributes, delete subfolders/files". This seems to serve my purpose.

Now I wish to know two things:
1) Am I doing the right thing or messing up something?
2) There was a radio button "Only apply these permissions to objects and/or containers within this container". This I had left unchecked. Should I check this? The window (see attachment) clearly states that these permissions apply to "this folder, subfolder and files". Is this just a redundant option?

Thanks!

Answer:How to grant read-only access of a drive to a user?

I'm still having problems.

The user is able to delete some files within some folders. I don't know why. This seems to occur randomly.

Is this because the user is part of the group 'PC/users' created by default by windows? I don't think so because by default this group has only read-only permissions and deny permissions should override them.

PS: I learnt that, if the radio button "Only apply these permissions to objects and/or containers within this container" is checked then permissions will be applied only to current folders and subfolders and not to subsequently created folders and files. Hence I had left it unchecked.

I am running Win XP on two networked computers. I had to install a new drive after a crash, and lost all of my settings. The new drive is NTFS. I am not able to grant permission for the users of the other computer to access the computer. It shows up in the workgroup fine. I am in the "User Rights Assignment" which has a choice to grant access to the computer from the network. When I try to add a user, it only lets me search for computers. I finds the other computer in the workgroup, but when I try to apply the computer name to the list it says "failed to save local policy database". Is there somewhere else to grant access to either a user or computer?

I have noticed over past 5-7 days a DCOM error 10010 in the event log at least once a day. It generally appears to occur whilst connected to the internet I cannot narrow it down any further to see what program it is coming from. The Microsoft website suggests windows messenger the problem but it is working fine. I am up to date on all updates using XP home. Firstly do i need to worry as I see actual physical fault with PC and can anyone tell how to gat rid. I have seen the registry fix suggest on fault page on Microsoft but I am not confident changing any registry settings. In addition the fault does not make sense to me. Here is the fault dianostic from Microsoft:"The Component Object Model (COM) infrastructure tried to start the named server; however, the server did not reply within the required timeout period. There might be a deadlock, or the program might not have responded to the server initialization code within the timeout period of two minutes."Any Ideas would be gratefully received.

Hi all, I migrated to Windows 8.1x64 Pro from Windows 7x64 Ultimate. In both OS's I'm the Administrator. In Windows 7 I was using a 2nd internal physical HDD for data files. Now with Windows 8.1 I'm using that same data drive, but I find that many files and folders can't be opened (Access denied). I followed these tutorials to take ownership and grant full access . Problem is that even if I follow this procedure for a folder, the files inside that folder still have access denied, and I have to apply the procedure to each file individually to gain access to it which is time consuming, even though the "all files and folders inside" option was chosen.
Is there a short way to clean the permissions inherited from the Windows 7 OS and apply fresh full permissions to the whole drive (all folders and files in it) so that Windows 8.1 won't bug me anymore with the "Acess Denied" sign? Thanks

Answer:Need to take ownership and grant full access to Data drive

Hi,

I have recently set up a guest account in an attempt to use it when friends are over/want to watch a few movies. Currently I cannot see any files in explorer when logged in (to either the pre setup guest or a newly created account). I have granted access to select files on my main account, but still cannot see them when I swap logins. Can anyone shed some light on what I am doing wrong?

Thanks,

Richard

Answer:How can I grant my guest account access to certain files in explorer?

Hi Rcik, welcome to the Seven Forums.

What you describe is exactly why the Public folders exist. Everything saved under Public (Public Videos, Public Pictures and so on) can be accessed by all users, also the built-in Guest user account.

You can find the Public user folders in C:\Users\Public (default location).

6. I restart laptop again.
Now laptop display password request for load OS and for bios access.
How i can resolve my problem?

PS. I am not set up pasword for laptop before. Boot pwd and BIOS pwd was empty.

Answer:Grant access to Satellite A100-906 after BIOS crash

Hey man I do not know what is wrong there but BIOS password can be removed by Authorized service only. It wills costs you a little bit but it can be removed without any problems. About OS ? I am afraid you must install it again.

BTW: some USB flash drives have password protection. If you want to have access to the saved data you must enter password at first. Does your USB have also password protection?

we have a computer at school that's being shared by young students, but they get a kick out of deleting files. they have a shared folder on a separate partition for all their activities. it's okay if they can open or even modify each other's files, but we just don't want them deleting anything. is there a user policy/security setting that can make this possible? tia

Answer:Is it possible to grant full access except Delete on folders and files

yeah. right click-->properties-->advance-->change permissions. select a user and the check box for full control allow/deny appears. just check the bottom boxes for file deletion. it seems like a new account appears in the permission window when you close the configuration menu, but windows has just split up the user into two groups: allow and deny. you can open them both and add the checkboxes for allow to deny, and the deny boxes to allow, but the user remains "split up" and those boxes won't stay checked, but the configuration should be correct.

Basically any user needs to be able to change their default try, set deparment print ID number, color/bw settings ect. Right now the domain users are just plain "users" on the local machines.

I keep getting the following ERROR in my Event Viewer though everything is working fine.

DCOM got error "The service cannot be started, either because it is disabled or because it has no enabled devices associated with it. " attempting to start the service netman with arguments "" in order to run the server:
{BA126AD1-2166-11D1-B1D0-00805FC1270E}

As you can see from the attached image this is generated ever 10 seconds
If I go into system services and disable DCOM I get problems with numerous programs MS Word being one, even though DCOM does not list any dependencies. I cannot find netman in system services but a search says it is part of a MS service pack

I am running Windows XP Sp2 with custom profile based on Black Viper

Having problems last several days running backup, and all programs are taking minutes to start if at all. On the "Console Root - Event Viewer (local) - System" log for this week, I have dozens of DCOM Event 10010 error messages saying "The server {D61A27C6-8F53-11D0-BFA0-00A024151983} did not register with DCOM within the required timeout" (mentioning 5 or six different servers between the {}). Then, when I go to "Console Root - Component Services" and try to open "Computers" the "Console Root - Component Services" application shuts down.

Appreciate any thoughts on what's going on and how to fix it.

Answer:dcom issues in the system event log

Have you installed any other software besides Windows? These are usually related to a poor configuration by third party app installations. If all your software is working, they may simply be things related to a specific application that you cannot solve (they need to be fixed by the application author)

I have one computer in my home network that I can not share files. I get the message below.
All of the other computer on my network would have a "popup box" where I would enter the Username and Password - but this one computer does not give me that popup.

Also I can access all of the other computer from this on ("GA-EG45M") but I can't access it from the others. Where do I go to authorize "access permissions"? All of the network discovery and sharing settings are set the same on all computers.

COMODO Internet Security : How to grant application access memory
Uploaded by Valentin N on malwaretipscom Channel on Dec 5, 2011

Enjoy!

Answer:COMODO Internet Security : Grant application access memory

But that's not how you allow memory access to avoid the log entry, (bypass self protection) as the video suggests is the problem.

You'll need to go to Defense+ -> Computer Security Policy -> Defense+ Rules.

Click on the Comodo Internet Security group and click Edit, then Customize.

Now click the Protection Settings tab, not the Access Rights tab.

In Protection Settings, click Modify on the Interprocess Memory Accesses rule and add the application that you do not wish to receive an log entry if it is trying to access a CIS process in memory.

I'm trying to determine if one can use a mail enabled security group setup with mailbox access rights to a Generic Mailbox. The system is Windows 2003 server.

What I'm thinking is to grant mailbox access to the security group and then the members of that group would have the access inherreted from the group.
I've tried to test this, but only get the unable to expand folder error in outlook. I'm wondering if this is because it does not work, or if it is a delay in replication of the change across the servers in the domain.

Am I way of the mark or is this doable?

Problem: My desktop computer automatically shuts down and restarts immediately after Windows begins to boot up and reboots to the "start Windows in Safe mode." It will only start in safe mode without networking meaning it has no Internet connection. I believe the adaptor for the D-Link AirPlus Xtreme G DWL-132 Wireless USB Adapter Packet Scheduler Miniport might be corrupted and may be the cause of the failure of my computer to boot properly. When I try and uninstall the adapter, I get this message: "Failed to uninstall the device. The device may be required to boot up the computer."

The event log shows event number 10005 with the DCOM as the source. Windows tech support web site suggests uninstalling the TCP/IP to correct this issue.

I'm also getting an event error codes of 7001 and 7026 with the Service Control Manager as the source. All of these event log entries coincide with the commencement of this problem of Windows failing to boot normally.

Any ideas/suggestions?

I ran the dcom config tool and found it to be msiserver to be the cause. I did a search and found a few others with the same issue, but with different causes, like msword, apc power shoot, etc. No one has come up with an answer to the riddle though of how to correct it, OR if it is some sort of hack/attack/virus that is showing up. I'm a bit puzzled as to what to do next.

The laptop itself doesn't seem at all concerned with this event as it continues to run without issue (as far as I can tell).

Maybe I should just ignore it but my preference, is that it not occur at all.
It's the ONLY error event that appears in the System log.

Any ideas would be GREATLY appreciated.

I run both Malwarebytes premium and Windows defender.
Neither, sfc /scannow or DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth identify any issues.

Hi,

I was hoping somebody could offer an insight on the below, as searching around I've not found much to go on other than "overheating"

Basically my laptop has been having very high temperatures for a long time (usually ~60C for CPU and often 100-110 for GPU...insanely high, in other words) For example, see how hot the machine gets just by resuming from a sleep (this is all within a minute or so):

I have been seeing the following error in event viewer each time I start Windows (4 entries) for some time:

So today I bit the bullet and had the back cover off the laptop and noticed what a bad state the thermal compound was in, for both the CPU and the chipset chip, so wiped it off using TIM Cleaner, and then applied new thermal compound and put the laptop back together. I was actually shocked because for the first time since I can remember, I could feel cold air blowing from the vents of my laptop! I logged into Windows and noticed that my temperatures had fallen and were staying at around the below:

Not as low as I'd like but a massive improvement. Trouble is, I am still getting the WHEA-Logger event errors in Windows Event Viewer ('processor core') and wondered if this was not in regards to overheating after all?

The plus side is my laptop is now almost totally silent - the way it must have been when I bought it new 3 years ago! But I was wondering how to investigate these WHEA-Logger errors, if anyone has any advice that'd be great.

Answer:WHEA-Logger event 18/19 errors in Event Viewer (W7 Home Premium)

First, well done on applying the thermal paste to the cpu/gpu. I assume you cleaned the vents as well. Did you use arctic silver 5 (just curious)?

I wonder if the processor could have been damaged from the heat. Are you experiencing any BSODs or other problems? You can run Prime95 to test your system. And Furmark for gpu.

I can access Windows Live Mail as Administrator on my computer but would like to be able to run as Standard User for day to day computing. Is it possible to change user controls so that Windows Live Mail appears on desk top when I am in Standard User mode ? At the moment the default for Windows Live Mail access is Windows Live Mail

Answer:Grant Standard User access to Windows Live Mail on own computer

Addition to first post

I found that under Windows Live Mail/Properties/Compatibility Tab I had Windows Vista entered still instead of Windows 7, and had not ticked Run as Administrator. I can now open Windows Live Mail as Standard User but it is completely blank i.e. the emails, folders etc. present when I access as Administrator are missing. Any ideas what I can do ?

EDIT: ARGH, sorry, meant to post this in General Discussion forum, I have no idea if it is a network issue.

Hello everyone,

I keep seeing this error appear several times a day, even during idle, in my Event Viewer. I did a clean install of build 10586 less than a month ago. I'm not having any overt issues yet, but the error is disturbing.

SettingSyncHost (9144) {979B90BD-0F81-4D83-B038-62032DD17C47}: Database C:\Users\xxxxx\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows\SettingSync\metastore\meta.edb: Index deleteDetection of table items is corrupted (0).
I have spent a few hours researching this and I can't find any reports of similar issues or even what the file metastore\meta.edb is for. Is this hopefully one I can just rename and it'll automatically create a new one?

I have noticed that during the long duration my PC is on (18 hours), several apps keep getting crash. Even after I restart these apps, they will eventually crash. PC is still functioning.
The apps that are crashing are:
