Dell OptiPlex 3020 MT Windows 10 Fall Creators Realtek Maxx Audio driver working erratically

Question: Dell OptiPlex 3020 MT Windows 10 Fall Creators Realtek Maxx Audio driver working erratically

Hi my dell OptiPlex 3020MT updated automatically to Fall creators update yesterday everything is working fine expect for the soundcard. It sounds tiny and flat. I downloaded and tried to install official Windows 10 audio driver from dell support but it can't be installed as it is not compatible with latest windows 10 build. I have to rely on windows update and Maxx Volume Pro is not working with driver provided via windows update. MaxxVolume, MaxxLeveler and MaxxBass sounds flat when I try to adjust it manually. All drop down options is empty.. no preset equalizer is available in drop down menu and user defined equalizer does not make any audible sound difference when I try to manually sets it. Also under speaker setup; Speaker size (Small, Medium, Large) does not make any audible sound difference.. it just sounds tiny and flat.
Kindly provide a work around for this issue. At least a compatible audio driver for fall creators update.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Subject says it all. The installation file is still there and don't know if I should reinstall it.
Rather have the Realtek Manager if I can find it.

Hi all,
I have a Dell Optiplex 3020 running windows 7 professional and need a driver to use my Skullcandy Ink'd bluetooth head set. I have a bluetooth dongle installed and working correctly and the head set is paired with the PC, showing in my devices. When I troubleshoot the device, "The driver for the Bluetooth Peripheral Device is not installed. Install the latest driver". When I apply this fix, it just loops back to the same message. I contacted Skullcandy and they just send me random links to stuff they found on Google.
I'd like a link to a driver please, from a reputable site (they sent me links to sites that want to charge!) Any help is greatly appreciated!!

Answer:Driver for Skullcandy Ink'd headset for Dell Optiplex 3020, Windows 7

Your choice of Bluetooth Dongle is the issue.  Dell doesn't support 3rd party bluetooth dongles or "Skullcandy Ink'd bluetooth head sets".
https://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-listing/B00CX3GRP4/

Bluetooth headsets in general do not require additional drivers.  But if your dongle does not include a full bluetooth suite including phones and headsets etc then it wont ever work.
There are even some Generic dongles that support everything with the Native drivers that come with windows 7.
You install while online and windows downloads all the other parts of the bluetooth stack including networking and headsets and speakers etc.

Until very recently all was fine but somethings happened and now the audio is being compressed. I only noticed it about 2 days ago but it might have been doing it for a bit longer than that, I can't be sure. It's nasty and kills the life in music.
I wonder if a Win10 update has screwed the audio up.
I've checked all the settings I can think of and they look good.  I wonder if it's the Dell audio Maxx Audio Pro that came with the PC.  It looks like any eq or dodgy settings are disabled but it's just the sort of add-on that might cause problems. I think I may have had to switch settings off here when the PC was brand new to get it sounding right....but that might be a flawed memory.
The realtek driver says it is up to date and hasn't been changed since 2015
Any help very gratefully received.
A sad music fan :-(

I updated my OptiPlex 7050 to the Fall Creators Update 1709 and my HDMI port has stopped working.  I'm running a dual monitor system, one monitor is using the display port and the other is using HDMI port.  After the update the port just stopped functioning.
Here's what I've tried:

I've tried three different monitors
Tried three different hdmi cables, plus one HDMI to display port
Flashed the BIOS
Installed the latest display drivers from Dell

As soon as I roll back the update, everything is fine.  To stop Windows to keep trying to update, I've set the branch readiness level to "Current Branch for Business" and deferred it for 365 days.
Is anyone else having this problem?
I'm in No hurry to install this update!

This kind of surprises me. Early in the Windows 10 game it was obvious there was (and still is) a big problem with the Intel Video Driver for Windows 10 32-bit. Dell has ignored the problem. The computer locks up tighter than a drum. Powering off is the only solution.
The fix is to install an older video driver but every time Microsoft comes out with an update the video drivers gets updated and puts it right back to where it starts locking up again.
This was a year ago and the problem still exists. I am kind of curious why this problem hasn't shown up here. Can anyone say they are running Windows 10 32-bit on a Optiplex 3020 and not locking up?

Good afternoon!

With my PC Dell supplied Audio! The program worked very well on windows 8.1, but today it's upgrade to windows 10 and the program has stopped working! Rather, it runs, but works partially (screenshots). Please help, what do I do? (My computer: DELL XPS 8700)

Answer:XPS 8700, Windows 10, Realtek Maxx Audio Pro features missing?

Here is how to fix the problem and go back to your old Realtek HD audio driver on the XPS 8700.  This will restore the Maxx Audio Pro feature.
* Open the Control Panel and select System* Click on Advanced System Settings (on the left)* Click on the Hardware Tab* Click on "Device Installation Settings" and then click on "No, Let me choose what to do" and "Never install driver software from Windows Update". Click Save Changes. This step is important or else Windows Updates will always write over the Windows 8.1 driver* Open the Control Panel- Programs and Features and select the Realtek Audio Driver and uninstall it* Restart the system* Install the Windows 8.1 Realtek audio driverXPS-8700_Audio_Driver_N4TKF_WN_6.0.1.7016_A00.EXE* Restart the system. Be sure to select your Realtek Audio as default audio device if you have more than one device on your computer
This worked for me.  Let me know if you have any questions.

Hey guys,
I have a Dell optiplex Mini tower 3020, I bought it from my friend for £160 here in U.K, it has an i5 4570 clocked at the stock 3.20Ghz speed, no dedicated GPU, 500 Gb 7200 rpm hard drive with windows 10 pro, a single module 1600 Mhz DDR3 ram stick. I was thinking of going crazy and take a risk and possibly get a higher reward. So as we all know, or who don't know, the dell optiplex 3020 MT has a 290W psu by dell, which makes it unable to put in powerful graphics cards in it, however I was thinking of replacing it with a Corsair CP-9020097-UK VS Series ATX/EPS 80 PLUS Power Supply Unit, 550 W, which am not sure if it will fit the mini tower, if it does I will be making use of a 24 to 8 pin mother board connecter to attach the power supply to the motherboard. If it does I would want to add a great cpu called the gtx 670 from evga the FTW edition with 2GB GDDR5 memory it is a 10 inch long card and I dont know if it will fit in my case, further more I will be adding a 60 gb ssd with the brackets bought for del optiplex, another 4 gb ram stick.
The main questions are:
Will the chosen power supply fit as replacement for the dell 290 W power supply?
Withh the Evga GTX 670 FTW fit in the Dell optiplex 3020?

I know there are probably lots of questions like this one but.....
I got an Optiplex 3020 a week ago and yesterday when i was using it, It just turned off and didn't turn on again.
I tried all of the solutions i found on the internet but still no luck.
Please help!
Thanks.

Answer:Dell Optiplex 3020 won't turn on

Remove the battery.
When you need to reset the bios make sure that power loss recovery is on and Auto turn on is on.
For some reason there is a bug in the bios that when its shut down and the options are OFF it never comes on again.

We have no issues with Wake on LAN (WOL) with our Dell OptiPlex 3010 machines, but I cannot get our Dell OptiPlex 3020 machines to boot in the same way.
In the BIOS I have enabled WOL and PXE booting as follows:
System Configuration > Integrated NICEnabled w/PXE is ticked
Power Management > Wake on LAN:LAN with PXE boot is ticked.
If I send a WOL signal, without PXE, I simply want to boot the machines normally into Windows, the 3010 machines will wake and look for a PXE server, when none is available, they will exit boot from LAN and boot from disk. Which is how I want it to work.
But the 3020 machines - which are set up as close to identically as the 3010s as possible - will also wake and look for a PXE server, but when none is available they will ask for a key to be pressed before they will boot from disk.  That's no good; I want them to boot into Windows (without user intervention) if there's no PXE server available!
If I set the 3020s to simply "Boot from LAN", then sending a WOL signal will correctly boot them into Windows. But that's no good either, as I want to have the option to PXE boot the machines remotely from time to time, as I want to be able to re-format a whole room of PCs using SCCM occasionally.
Does anyone know what the correct BIOS settings should be, to get the same result on the 3020s that I get on my 3010s?
Thanks in advance.

As soon as I installed the Windows 10 Fall Creators Update the computer will not awake from sleep.  It is not a laptop, so this should not be complicated by the power settings applicable to laptops/battery settings, etc.  It will go to sleep, then when I try to wake it using the keyboard or mouse as usual, the screen stays black, then it does a complete reboot.  All drivers for MoBo, video, sound etc are up to date.
Ideas?

Thanks

windows 10 enterprise x64 fall creators update (build 16299.15) has following problems:- build-in ethernet (intel i218-lm (3) ) shows no connection in os and no network (cable is present and nic leds are active).- wireless adapter (intel dual band wireless-ac 7265) does not see wireless networks.- audio device is absent. in device manager only high definition audio controller [pci bus 0, device 27] has problem (device cannot start. code 10).all these happened after installing build 16299.15 on top of latest regular win10ent x64 version, also this is happened on clean install of insider preview build 16296 from iso and upgrading to build 16299.15.i tested build 16299.15 with default drivers from ms windows update, i did install all drivers from lenovo site with system update tool. nothing helps.there is one solution for wired lan - after installing full set of intel's drivers, running diagnostic on network adapter fix connection problem until next reboot.P.S. BIOS, Drivers, Updates, Dance with tambourine - all was done. I'm a sysadmin in our office, if anybody asks.

Answer:Thinkpad X250: No LAN, No Wireless, No Audio after Windows 10 Fall Creators Update (16299.15)

Hi Voljka,For company or production environment, Windows Insider Preview / Release Preview builds is not recommended, as the drivers may not be ready for all types of hardware.  I would suggest you revert back to Windows 10 RS3 (15063), and wait until it is ready and show up in the Windows Update.

Hello. I have a Dell Inspiron 3537 running the Windows 10 Anniversary updated version. I have a RealSense F200 camera. Since I installed the FCU, I noticed Windows Hello stopped working.
Fails to inialize the camera on the login screen. It also fails the camera setup.
The camera works, as a webcam. What doesn't seem to work is the red light dot that used to light up when in use (ie, the IR camera).
The device admin in the control panel shows only a single camera. I don't remember well but I think it's supposed to have a separate driver for the IR part of the camera?
Anyway, did anyone get the same problem?

Only Games Tab is working, also my Desktop and Laptop are not working after the update. If I create a new user it works fine.....

It happens on both laptop and desktop so it must be a settings or something with upgrade. I don't know..
It tried all DISM command, SFC /Scannow . Store repair, Store clean Cache. but again , new user is working fine on both.

Do you also have issue with STORE ? I'm having issue on both Desktop and Laptop ... so it's not because of software I'm using. I did an Upgrade on both. Can you see the Home/Apps tab properly without grey squares ?

Yes !! I've found the STORE issue with grey squares. The only thing that was different with the other user that it was in FULL HEBREW. now on my main account I'm using it all ENGLISH . so it seems that it can't work with HEBREW + ENGLISH Mix. like Region Israel/Hebrew and Language English !

For example it doesn't work when
Region Format Hebrew ( Israel )
Location Israel
Current language for non-Unicode programs English ( United States )

Also on Languages English United States on TOP
Hebrew on Bot

It does work when I choose some of them as English or hebrew and Hebrew on TOP before ENGLISH

My issues started when I updated to the Windows 10 Fall Creators Update. Even though Dell states that my Dell Inspiron 3541 is fully compatible with Windows 10 Fall Creators Update and IT IS NOT! This update slowed my system down to a crawl! Mouse jumps and skips across the screen when used and ALL programs are very very slow to open and use. And start up is a full 10 MINUTE deal now. I have updated windows and all dell drivers as needed at dell website.
The Fall Creators Update also caused my Onedrive to ask me each time I booted which files I wanted to sync. Excel and Word would not open some files at all. I uninstalled my paid subscription Office 365 and reinstalled, not solving the problem.
I reverted back to my previous Windows 10 version and still had all of the same problems. I did get Office to open all my Onedrive files work by uninstalling and reinstalling Office again. But the Laptop is still very very slow and frustrating.
i have not found anything on the web that relates to this.
I have checked system settings, devices and device settings, event logs, and monitored cpu, memory, and drive usage without finding a culprit.   I have optimized the laptop and run all Dell test.
I am currently doing a clean install of Windows, deleting all else on the laptop, in hopes it solves my issue. If not I have the original factory back up and will install it and go from there.Has anyone else had this issue?
Thanks ahead of time for any help you can provide,  Roy

Greetings all, new to the forum. I got the fall creators update and it looked like everything installed correctly. It installed so well (Or so I thought) that I deleted my windows.old folder on my C: drive. Now the kicker is, I noticed that the Windows Store and some of the Apps no longer work. I believe this was before I deleted the windows.old folder.

Any thoughts on how to fix? I have tried using PowerShell as Admin to reinstall the Store and the apps and that has not worked even after giving the windowsapps folder Admin rights.

Creating a guest account does not give me access to the Store either.

Any help would be appreciated.

Hi, I have a P50 recently updated Windows 10 Fall creators update. After the update my system no longer shows my wwan hardware (Sierra Wireless EM7455).I no longer have a cellular connection option in the network menu after clicking the network icon in taskbar tray,no cellular connection section in the networking settingsNo wwan device in Device Manager under Network AdaptersNo cellular connection shown in the Network Connections control panel under Network and Internet. What does show up in device manager is a 'Sierra Wireless Location Sensor' under the Sensors category.I did try to install the Sierra Wireless softwar from here: https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/forums/postpage/board-id/tp07_en. But it didn't help.I do not know if any of this has to do with the recent update on Windows 10 but if anyone else has experienced this please share your situation and solution if any.Any help is appreciated, Thanks.

So I have 150 OptiPlex 5050's, and a Windows 10 image deployed via WDS. I have the latest (8073) Realtek audio driver from the Dell site added to my WDS server, and when a machine is imaged the driver is installed. However, it doesn't install the Maxxaudio Waves application and services so when headphones are plugged in to the front jack Windows doesn't detect it and route the audio to the front jack.
If I install the DUP manually all the software is installed and the jack detection works fine, but if I run the DUP silently as a startup script I get the driver but not the Waves software. I have also tried running the Waves MSI that is installed with the driver, both scripted, through Group Policy and manually, but this also fails to install correctly.
I am assuming this has something to do with the reboots required after installation, but I can't manually install the driver on 150 PC's I need to automate it somehow.
Does anyone else have this problem or know of a workaround? I just need the headphone detection to work properly!

The problem exists on several our Dell laptops so it shoudn't be an installation issue. Any ideas how to resolve the issue?

I recently bought a gently used Dell Optiplex GX280. It came with Ubuntu which was removed when I installed Windows 7 Professional x86. The install had its rough moments but I was finally able to complete it successfully. The problem is that I can't seem to get the sound to work; my computer keeps saying "No audio output device is installed". I am using a pair of speakers plugged into the audio jack in the back of the computer.

I tried going to the Dell website but they just said that my computer is not compatible with Windows 7. I tried the XP driver once straight from the download and a second time running it in XP compatibility mode, but neither worked.

Then I looked on Google and checked some forums. A few people had successfully used the Windows Vista driver in Vista compatibility mode, but that didn't work for me either.

Every time I try installing a driver I get the error message "Installation failed! The audio driver files do not support your computer hardware." I'm not sure what to do next, besides eschew the computer and buy a harmonica to make my own music (not polite when you're tone deaf like me ). Please help!

One extra piece of information: I haven't connected the Dell to the internet yet. All these downloads have been done on my Acer laptop running Vista, then the zipped folders are transferred via flash drive to the Windows 7 Dell. I don't think this should be a problem, though, since I have done all this successfully befo... Read more

Answer:Audio Driver for Dell Optiplex GX280

Hi Nekton,

If there are no drivers for win7, you may be out of luck. However, before we give up on you lets try a few things.

1. Providing that the vista drivers you downloaded were for exactly the same hardware device, it may be possible to force the install using the legacy hardware function.
Open up device manager, right click and select install legacy hardware, the choose your vista drivers.
This is originally designed for installing hardware that is not plug and play; but may work for you.

2. If still no good, it might be possible to alter the ini file and name of the vista drivers so that win7 does not recognise them as blocked drivers. Here's the steps from a previous post Leadtek Winfast TV2000XP RM Drivers ? with my TV card.

3. Lastly (and more ugly) is an external usb sound card. I bought one with headphones attached from Sony for around A$40 (actually mine was usb headphones; but I found I could unplug the headphones and attach any speakers to it.

hi I have a inspiron 15 5555 and I'm having issues with the fall creators update with the amd a10-8700p video drivers the only driver that is working for me is 15.200.1060.0 which is from 7/15/2015. The latest ones from windows update, amd site, and dell drivers page wont work the laptop shuts off during install and reboots to no amd driver and uses windows default video driver. I have the latest bios
I noticed this issue when I was on the creators update and tried to update to the fall creators update and the update would fail. so then I used the default factory image and was able to update from that to the fall creators update with no problem but I'm only able to use the old video driver
has anyone else had this problem dell does list this laptop as tested with the fall creators update

I have a Dell U3011 monitor which has an SD card reader. Since I installed the fall creators update (Win10 x64 Pro), the card reader is no longer functional. I've tried multiple SD cards, and none of them show as a drive. When I look in Device Manager, under USB Controllers I see "Unknown USB device (Device Descriptor Request Failed)".

The PC is dual boot with Ubuntu, and when I boot Ubuntu the SD card reader works, so the problem is not with the hardware. Any suggestions on a fix? I use the card reader fairly frequently.

Hello, I just updated the Realtek Audio Driver this morning when I saw the update available in the Update center.  The driver went from v 6.0.1.6914 to v 6.0.1.7040.  Now, the Dolby Advanced Audio v2 won't work.  It forgot my previous EQ settings and when I make a new one, it doesn't change a thing in the sound.  Is there a way to roll back to the previous version?  Anyone knows a fix for this? This is really bad as I'm listening to lots of music on this laptop while I'm working and without the Dolby EQ, the sounds is not very good... I'm under Windows 8.1 64-bit. Thanks.

Answer:X230T Dolby Advanced Audio v2 not working anymore since Realtek Audio Driver update

OK, so I succeeded to revert back to the previous version of the Realtek audio driver and the Dolby thing came back just fine after a reboot. So, if you're with Windows 8.1 and enjoy the Dolby feature, don't update your Realtek audio driver!

Inspiron 7737 comes with Realtek audio.  The volume on microphones is not properly set in the driver, with the result that using Skype and the like is not workable.  The Realtek driver supplied on Realtek's site fixes this problem perfectly.  So why am I posting?
The Dell-supplied Realtek driver includes the software that drives a pop-up dialogue.  The dialogue allows you to specify what it is that has been plugged into the audio input socket.  This is necessary because the audio socket in this case is a 4 pin single plug.  Audio out is on by default but audio in (external microphone) is off by default.  Unless you have the pop-up dialogue box working, it is not possible to use a external microphone.
I need to use an external microphone.  The solution is simple.  Find out from Dell how to have that pop-up box functioning (if it comes through an external program).  Or, and this is what I suspect, the modification of the appropriate registry key probably does it.
So this is really a message for a Dell tech.  Please provide a way to activate that dialogue box or a similar method, such as modifying registry keys, etc.

Answer:Dell's Realtek audio driver is broken, need a fix

I'm not familiar with the Inspiron 7737 specifically, but if it uses the Dell Audio app when the Dell-provided Realtek drivers are installed, launch that and go to Advanced > Jack information, which is where you'll find the checkbox to enable the pop-up dialog whenever a new device is connected.

Hello,

I remember before the Fall Creators Update, Edge would autofill certain pages addresses that I visited before when I start typing a word of the subject that the page is discussing (thus not necessarily the address itself).

This does not seem to work anymore since did a clean install of the Fall Creators Update.
I have checked the following options in Edge's Advanced Settings:
- Save forms
- Use Page prediction to browse faster, etc.
- Show suggestions of searches and websites while I type

Are there any other options I should enable? Or does it need time for Edge to register pages that I visit often?

I have three Win10 machines in the same workgroup, all with shared folders that the other machines can access. Previously this has been working fine. Two of the machines have just been updated with the fall creators update. What I now find is:
From Network in Windows Explorer on either of the updated machines, I can still see the machine that hasn't been updated and and see the folders on that machine.Neither of the updated machines can see the other updated machine when I click on Network in Windows Explorer. Only the machine that hasn't been updated appears there. On the machine that hasn't been updated, all I see under Network in Windows Explorer is that machine - neither of the updated machines appear. If, in Windows Explorer on either updated machine I enter \\<other-updated-machine> in the current path field, then all the shares on the other machine are now visible and can be accessed. If I go one level back up to Network, the machine and shared folders disappear again.

Anyone else seen this sort of behaviour, or have an idea on how to fix it?

Hi friends
I'm using dell 15 inspiron 3521 running in windows 10. I resetted my pc due to software issue, but after resetting all drivers were uninstalled . So I reinstalled all drivers according to order suggested in the following website www.dell.com/.../EN
After installing all diver I came to know dell wave maxx 4 audio is missing . How to get that back? Someone help me in this to solve the issue.

Answer:Dell audio wave maxx 4 is missing

Hello. WavesMaxx is bundled with the Realtek audio driver. Whether you have any WavesMaxx at all, or whichever version you get, depends on the audio driver that is installed. You can see all of the Realtek audio drivers that Dell has released on the Inspiron 3521 html page.
The ones for Windows 10 are WT. The ones for Windows 8.1 are WB.
If you know which version you had before, install that one. If not, go through them one by one until you get the features you are looking for. If you try to install an older driver, you have to completely remove the newer driver first.
1. Open the Device Manager (find it in the Control Panel, or type devmgmt.msc into the search box).2. Expand the "Sound, Video & Game Controllers" section.3. Right click on "Realtek High Definition Audio". 4. Click "uninstall."5. Put a check mark in the option to delete the driver software, and then ok.6. Restart the laptop. Because you removed the Realtek driver files, Windows will install its native audio driver, named "High Definition Audio Device". 7. Go back to the Device Manager and look for "High Definition Audio Device". If you see "Realtek High Definition Audio" again, that means that there was another version of the Realtek driver on your hard drive, and Windows found and installed it. So  keep uninstalling & restarting until Realtek no longer appears under Sound...Controllers and "High Definition Audio Device" appears... Read more

Appreciate any help.

Answer:Realtek Audio HD Driver is not working

If it worked OK previously, use the System Restore function and restore the PC to an available restore date this BEFORE you had the problem. System Restore will fix many problems (and does not delete any user data). System Restore can be accessed from Start/Programs/Accessories/System Tools.

A comment on your 64bit OS installation. 3GB of RAM is woefully inadequate and you are not getting any benefits from the 64 bit OS as the main reason to have 64 bit OS is having more than 4GB of RAM. In fact you have less useable RAM as a 64 bit OS requires more memory than a 32 bit.

Do let us know if you run into any issues, be quite descriptive about the issue and steps you used.

We recently upgraded our OptiPlex 3020 machines to Windows 10. We have run into an issue where our users will report no network connection. The network jack has a solid orange link light with no activity. When we get into the machine, the network card is missing. BIOS does not list the network card. PXE boot won't work. The only solution is to pull the power cable for 30 seconds, then the network starts working properly again.
We have the latest BIOS version (A15), and we have tried both the latest network drivers from Dell and Realtek's website.
We have had this occur on at least 20 machines randomly so far.

I have an Archer TP-Link AC 1750 PCI-E dual band wireless adapter (less than 2 years old) and it has always worked with Windows 10, until now.
I became aware of a potential problem with Insiders 16288 which was the first I installed that broke the wifi connection, and then and subsequent insider releases all had the dreaded yellow exclamation mark.
I have been to the TP-Link web page and I have downloaded the latest drivers for windows 10, for this card and others, but with no success.
I have uninstalled, removed the driver, reinstalled, tried windows update, tried the trouble shooter, tried various other TP-link drivers, and cannot find a driver that works.
It seems odd that a so called Windows Update can break something that has always worked.
Anybody got the same issue or any advice on a driver that may work?
I'm now stuck with an ethernet cable running across the floor.
I'm also reluctant to buy a new card as the one I'm using is "Windows 10 Compatible" but that was until yesterday.

This morning, Windows update offered me the Windows 10 creators fall update. I agreed to install it, so it downloaded it and installed it. Answer:Realtek HD audio driver not working, vista

"I went to their website"

I assume it was the Realtek website you went to?
Drivers direct from them are fine if you have a Realtek add-on PCI sound card.
If your system uses an on-board (integrated) sound controller, you need to get the driver either from the PC/laptop maker's website or the motherboard manufacturer's website.

The PC maker's website should be used wherever possible though.

The reason why you should use the PC maker's website (or the motherboard maker's website) for integrated sound devices is that they often need custom-made drivers which are specially written for the PC maker. Realtek do not have these drivers for general download, they only supply them to the PC or mobo manufacturer.

I've been given a computer in the following state:
- Hard drive was reformatted with a clean install of Windows 7 Pro (same as shipped) which is now showing as not activated.
- I was told that an OEM disc was used to reinstall Windows but it looks like a retail version might have been used instead along with what appears to be a generic key.
- I do not have recovery media and I don't see a COA label on this model.
The computer all original parts and it's my understanding that the activation key is BIOS based. Is there way to activate Windows on the spot without tracking down recovery media, backing everything up, and then reinstalling?
I apologize if I've missed any critical information. Any advice is greatly appreciated.

Look in Device Manager under the Sound, Video, Game Controllers section for the Realtek High Definition Audio device and see what it says there as far as the driver info. This is where the real driver info is located. Do not look under the Audio Inputs and Outputs section.

Hi.

I have been working on a Dell Inspiron 531S and am unable to get the video, and now audio, drivers loaded and working correctly. Here?s the deal:

According to the Dell tag# info online, this cpu uses either the onboard Nvidia nforce 6150SE n430 video card or an ATI 1300 Pro. There is no external video card so the Nvidia should be right. This is confirmed by programs like HWinfo32. However, someone did install ATI catalyst software at some earlier point.

At first, only the video card driver was not loaded properly and so Vista (Home Premium 32-bit) was in VGA-compatible mode. I tried to load NVIDIA Nforce 258.96 WHQL drivers for Vista 32-bit, which completed without errors. Upon rebooting, though, I could see in Device Manager that the drivers didn?t take. I have also tried Dell?s recommended R166208 (an executable that loads Nvidia?s MCP61 ver.A01 drivers) and no matter what I do, Device Manager says I now have an ?unknown device? or a VGA-compatible display adapter. Unloading and reinstalling did not help. I noticed SP2 was not loaded so tried installing it to see if that would help. It loaded no problem, but then I saw (as another update) a Realtek audio driver update. I let it load and now have no audio.

I have tried both Dell?s recommended Realtek driver (R180772, which is for the ALC888 HD audio device and loads Realtek?s R1.85 audio drivers) and a newer R2.51 version for Vista that I got from Realtek?s site. Both install ... Read more

Sounds like to me a fresh installment of Windows vista would help you out the most.

Hello,
This OptiPlex 3020 is encountering strange problem getting the Windows 10 v1607 or Anniversary update installed.  It looks fine in Update and Security as it finished initial install and prompt to "Restart".  The subsequent installation process after it's 1st reboot never get pass ...0%.  It is suggested that the latest OptiPlex drivers should be installed.  So I went to Support.Dell.com and allowed it to auto detect and install latest drivers and software.  Several Chipset update seems to have came down and installed without issue.  I didn't see any device drivers came down.  But the Windows 10 update still failed at "....0%" during the initial reboot.  According to Dell, OptiPlex 3020 is tested for Windows 10 v1607 Anniversary update.
1. Does anybody in this Forum know about this issue?
2. How else do I know if required drivers are installed?
Thank you and much appreciate your help.

After receiving the Fall Creators Update for Windows 10, my Dell Inspiron 7547 laptop reboots almost immediately after booting.  Windows disables the Radeon R7 video driver and uses Microsoft's Basic Display Driver.  Installing what I think is the latest Windows 10 compatible driver - Version 23.20.72.0, Date 2017-10-20 - using non-whql-win10-64bit-radeon-software-crimson-relive-17.10.2-oct23.exe has no effect.

After updating system to Fall Creators Update of W10 (1709) Dolby Digital Plus App  is reported to be deactivated /deinstalled due to driver incompatibility.
(It appears that driver/ app came with PowerDVD 12 preinstalled.)

Manual start of Dolby App shows that driver version installed is higher than expected by app (see screenshot).
Can some resolve driver/app problem, so I can use app again.

Hi Team,
I just purchased Dell XPS 9350. Whenever I do full shutdown then boot, always video, audio (both online and local videos) via any browser, VLC, movies & tv app are not playing and its keep loading. It will resolve once I restart the system, so its consistantantly happening after every full shutdown then boot.

I found that it's because of Realtek HD Audio driver  (V6.0.1.7829) and system working perfectly after rolling back to HD Audio Device default driver. Please fix this.

Recently upgraded a Dell Inspiron 3847 to an SSD and did a clean-install of Windows 7 Home-Premium x64 using Dell media. Post install, I cannot get the audio working. Device manager shows ...
Bluetooth Audio DriverHigh Definition Audio Device (yellow exclamation point)Realtek High Definition AudioI have tried the following to fix:
1. Uninstalling and deleting the driver then re-downloading using Dell Detect 2. Installing the RealTek R282 driver from the RealTek site3. Windows Update does not find the driver if it is uninstalled4. Right click on entry in device manager and letting Windows find it5. Installing it manually from the Dell siteAny help is greatly appreciated and thanks in advance.

Realtek HD Audio Drivers randomly failed after about a month of perfect operation.
The icon for Realtek has vanished, and the audio manager is nowhere to be found in the control panel. Realtek is no longer seen in Device Manager as well. Playback Devices menu shows nothing related to Realtek like it previously did.

Now my front and back audio ports do not detect anything. Only the HDMI audio is working via my monitor speakers. All other peripherals are working fine as well (I don't have anything to test the mic ports).

I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling the drivers multiple times, from both the version given on the Realtek site and Gigabyte site. The HD Manager is still nowhere to be found.

I tried manually installing the driver to the device manager via the "Install Legacy Driver" and receive "This device cannot start. (Code 10)" as the device status. I have NVIDIA High Definition Audio also installed and working perfectly. I tried uninstalling all of my audio drivers (including the High Definition Audio Controllers in the System Devices categories) only for it to reinstall my NVIDIA drivers that I believe supply the HDMI sound.

I am under the impression that Realtek is supposed to install to both Program Files and Program Files (x86)? It is only installing to the latter every time I try to uninstall and reinstall. A search for RAVCpl64.exe yields nothing.

I am currently running Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit.

Answer:Realtek HD Audio Driver Randomly Stopped Working and Disappeared

First question what is displayed in the Device Manager, Sound Section? (All entries - post a screenshot).

HDMI sound and PC sound are separate as the HDMI sound is generated by a sound chip on the video board.

If the sound chip is working and not having a conflict, if the RealTek will not install the generic Windows installed HD Audio Driver will be used. If this is not installing either (after uninstalling the Realtek and rebooting) it does sound like a potential hardware problem.

Try this, go to the Device Manager, RIGHT click on the entry for the RealTek sound (even if it has the error code), then Left click "Uninstall" and check the box to also uninstall the drivers (if it gives you that option). Then restart the PC and watch to see if Windows detects the sound and installs the HD Audio Driver. If it does, that says the sound chip is OK. If not, either its bad or it has not been identified and you need to reinstall the Intel motherboard chipset drivers (one of the chipset functions is it identifies all the devices on the motherboard).
