Please fix the XPS 13 (2015) 9343 touchpad / trackpad

Question: Please fix the XPS 13 (2015) 9343 touchpad / trackpad

The Trackpad on this laptop is become really unusable. The cursor is jumping around when you lift your finger from the trackpad. I am finding it very difficult to use Photoshop and cannot do anything precise which is ironic as this is a precision touchpad. There is nothing precision about it.
Please Dell fix this. For me this is the only thing holding back the best Ultrabook ever made.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I just got this laptop today and immediately noticed the same exact thing. It's driving me nuts and really creating problems navigating. I am really hoping this can be fixed with a software update and it's not hardware related. I'm also wondering if this is just a flaw on certain units or all of them act like this.

Hi all,

I've basically spent the whole day looking for a solution (which I still don't think I have), so figured I'd try my luck here.

The trackpad/touchpad (mouse cursor) on the Dell XPS 13 (9343) will randomly freeze-up, stop scrolling, stop being able to mouse click, start randomly resizing/scrolling or will cease to do anything at all after a while. This is a known issue apparently and commonly experienced by most owners.

Does anyone know of an actual solution for this? Dell released a firmware update that supposedly addressed the issue however unfortunately mine started doing it again today to the point where I had to literally power the machine off and reboot.

From what I've read here:

YES!!! A SOLUTION/ACTUAL WORKING FIX! XPS Laptop's - Touchpad / Touch pad / Mouse issue. Windows 8/10 need apply. Scrolling in Chrome mirrors that of Edge. Now THIS is Precision. Scrolling you're actually used to seeing on a laptop. : Dell

It sounds like my next move might be to try installing the windows 10 PS/2 generic driver from Synaptics?

Any advice/help on this would be greatly appreciated! I can't really find any solutions or updates past 2015..

Between this and trying to update my sound driver, I'm losing my hair, FAST.

I'm sure this is old stuff, but i can't find it in the fora.
I 've had the xps 13 9343 since 2015.  I now want to connect it to my LG TV (purchased 2016) so that I can watch movies on the big screen.  Can I buy a usb 3.0 cable to do so.
Must I avoid the Thunderbolt cables?

I am experiencing a problem where about 50% of the time I boot up my XPS 13 9343, I have a red X over the speaker icon and no audio.  If I mouse over the icon it says "No audio output device is installed."

Looking at the Realtek HW Audio Codec in Device Manager, it says:

This device cannot start. (Code 10)
{Operation Failed}The requested operation was unsuccessful."

After seeing this, I uninstalled and deleted the driver through the Device Manager.  I re-installed the driver from the Dell site (9343_Audio_Driver_X22K2_WN32_7422.118.0_A01.EXE).  I am still experiencing the issue.

Is anybody else seeing the same thing?

After not having used the laptop for a few months, I powered it on and was applying updates (some pre-1709 cumulative Windows updates).
Suddenly, the laptop shut down.  I came to notice that the LED on the power supply was dead.  Pressing the battery status light on the latptop gave no battery level (no lights).  I figured the power supply had died and ordered up a new one.
The new power adapter arrived, and the LED works.  However, when I plut it in the LED turns off.  It's not until I cycle the power to the adapter (while disconnected from the computer) that the LED returns.  Plugging it into the computer again causes it to turn off.
I'm not sure if I got a dud for the new power adapter, or if something is wrong with the computer.  I don't want to sink another $40 into a second new adapter.
How do these latptops behave when the battery is dead?  Are they still usable when plugged in?
Any suggestions?

Answer:XPS13 (2015) P54G/9343: Will not power up

There's a short circuit somewhere in the system.
Unplug the system, disconnect the battery and hold the power button for 30 sec.  Re-connect the AC adapter (but not the battery) and see if the system will power up.  If it will, reconnect the battery and try again.  If it then fails, the battery is bad.  Replace with a new one.
If you can't get the system to power up on AC only, next suspect is the DC jack - replace this part:
www.parts-people.com/index.php
If that fails to get the system going, the mainboard is bad.

On my XPS 13 the sound card driver uses 30% CPU constantly when more then 1 users are logged in. I have removed and reinstalled the driver but the problem persists. Is this a known problem and will Dell release a driver update?

Opening a new thread since the other is marked as resolved.
Since receiving the laptop on Friday I noticed that audio was not working - to begin with the speaker volume was very quiet, even when on max, and then the audio device would 'disappear' from Windows periodically and audio ceased to function entirely. I had assumed that this was a one off and so rebooted and all seemed well - however the issue has returned and seems to be worse.
Audio tests fail, and there is no sound from any applications - seems to be hardware issue; I removed the Intel SST & Realtek drivers and then reinstalled the driver package from Dell, no change.
Then I rebooted, went into the BIOS, turned off audio, rebooted, turned audio back on from BIOS, booted to Windows and audio was working again. However, following a reboot, the issues returned. And subsequently audio functionality comes back and goes away as it pleases.
I'm quite disappointed to be honest, I had waited a couple of weeks for the laptop and now it's looking like I'm going to need to send it back for repair. Also I've just managed to get everything set up the way I want it and now I'm pretty sure I'm going to be forced to do a factory reset, which I'm adamant is not going to resolve the issue!
Can anyone help me out here?
Have contacted Dell support and am waiting to hear back, just interested to know if there's anything I can try in the meantime.

Answer:XPS 13 - 2015 (9343), sound card issues

Adam SharifOpening a new thread since the other is marked as resolved.
Hello Adam. I have removed the "verified" from my answer to Zof (he is the person who marked it as the answer, probably because I answered his audio driver question).

Both you and Zof mentioned the BIOS. You could try updating to the latest revision, which was released yesterday. The revision before that was released just a week ago, so it looks like there are a lot of bugs in that model that are being caught. However, under the "Fixes and Enhancements" notes, I don't see any mention of fixing audio in any of the revisions. However it could be fixed but not noted.
Other than that, I repeat my advice to Zof:
"...you should perform a system recovery and return the laptop to the exact state it was in when you took it out the box. Then test the audio immediately before you allow any updates (turn off Microsoft automatic updates before you go online).
If the audio does not work at that point, consider returning the laptop, because the problem is caused either by faulty hardware or a problem created at the factory."
The reason for performing a system recovery is because Dell no longer provides a self contained audio test. The tests available piggy-back on Windows and its drivers, so since they are not removed from the equation the tests are inadequate. A system recovery is the next best test because it fixes Windows and the audio driver, so any problems leftover are due t... Read more

A friend recently purchased a XPS 13 9343.  Apparently she had problems with the battery not charging when she initially set up the computer.  She claims she was instructed by the staff at the Microsoft Store not to operate the computer on the power supply, but that she should run the battery down and recharge it overnight.  She is under the impression that this is the way Dell intends that the computer be operated.  Given that she is not very technical, I'm a bit skeptical about this.  I suspect she may have misunderstood these instructions.  Is there any truth to this? Is this an initial "conditioning" procedure?  I did read another post that described a similar procedure to reset the battery meter. Does that procedure apply to this computer?  I've searched the Dell site, but I can't find any specific instructions for this computer.  If anyone can point me to some more info, I'd very much appreciate it.
Thank you.

Answer:XPS 13 9343 (2015) Battery Charging Question

Hi,
I am not sure if the information was given incorrectly or it was misunderstood.
Customers can use the laptop either way they want(with or without the charger), however it is advisable not to keep the charger 24*7.
Once the battery reaches 100%, Let her use the machine on battery power till the charge level reaches anywhere near 10%.
In simple words, It must be in charge and discharge cycle.
Thank you

Hi,
I'm having a new issue with the laptop, which seems to be happening in the last few weeks.
The only change that was made of consequence was an update to BIOS A07 for a fedora dual boot. Incidentally I have tried the devices on the Fedora OS on the same laptop and they are detected no problem, also, both HDD's have been tested on another PC which works correctly and the USB ports on the XPS laptop are also functioning since smaller USB devices are being detected correctly.
Both devices are being picked up in the system tray and the drivers are showing in device manager yet they are not being picked up by the file system.
Any ideas are appreciated !

EDIT: One device is USB 2.0 another is USB 3.0, troubleshooting using windows states that USB 2.0 devices will not work correctly yet the same issue occurs with the 3.0 device.

OK new XSP13 received on Friday, I ran all the Dell updates and windows updates I could, installed my common software (VLC, Chrome, Office) and this morning day 2 of ownership I wanted to install the Creative Cloud then make a full system backup. However when I went to run the installer it advised something like "windows in in a status requiring a system reboot" and advised to do this before installing. I had not other applications open, but I closed the installer and figured another update had come over night .. I used the widows menus to start a reboot.
Dell Logo .. then a black screen.I few seconds later I noticed the front light was flashing orange then white.
I waited 30 seconds - which feels like an age, then used the power button to reboot.
Dell Logo .. then a black screen. Now I' am hearing very loudly 4 rapid beeps and a pause. The front light was flashing orange then white. It did this tone 4/5 times then stops. I powered it off.
I pluged it into power and left it and hour .. and powered it on .. same thing.
I can't find a trouble shooting document for this machine (a service doc yes but thats no help here)I have tried holding F2 on boot .. but that does nothing.
Anyone have any idea if I can do something here? or do I simply have to wait until business hours to try and get some support from dell staff?

Like so many other XPS 13s my motherboard has died as a result of poor manufacturing.
Since technical support quoted me a price of 1100 euro(!!!) to replace this part, I'm going to do it myself.
To that end, could someone please give me the list of part-numbers which will fit an XPS 13 model 9343?
I believe my current specs at i5 2.4ghz, 8gb ram. I don't care about the ram or cpu spec at the moment; I'm just looking for a list of all suitable replacement motherboards.

Thanks in advance.

(Loyal Dell buyer for 16 years. I will never buy another of your products.)

Answer:XPS 13 (9343 / 2015) replacement motherboard part numbers

There is no such master list of boards -- the part number can be found on the board near the memory slots.
For the i5,
www.parts-people.com/index.php
Different CPUs result in different part numbers, since the CPU is a permanent part of the board.
Any 9343 board will fit any XPS 9343.

Hi,
I have found a problem with XPS 13 2015 (9343) Developer Edition with touchscreen on Ubuntu 15.10.
Problem is with the key combo for changing tabs in Chrome (CTRL+FN+UP or DOWN).
It seems like this problem only affects BIOS A07 as downgrading to A05 fixes it completely.
To reproduce:
- Open Chrome
- Create 3 browser tabs (CTRL+T)
- Now just press CTRL+FN+UP (or DOWN) (try pressing UP quickly after pressing CTRL+FN). It if changes tabs just wait 5 seconds without any key and try the combo with DOWN if you used UP previously or viceversa.
- Repeat previous step and sometimes you will see how the combo key fails and it doesn't changes tabs.
The 5 secs wait between tries is important because it seems that when the combo works and you keep CTRL+FN pressed the next touches don't fail.
Downgrading BIOS to A05 fixed the problem for me, so it seems like some change in A07 introduced this bug.

Answer:XPS 13 (9343) 2015: Keyboard problem in A07 when changing browser tabs

I have tried BIOS A08 and the problem with missing CTRL+FN+UP or DOWN keystrokes it's still present, A05 works like a champ.

Hi,

Read conflicting reports that the Dell XPS 13 supports NVME drives. Considering its a SATA M.2 connection I find that hard to believe. So was wondering which SSD 512GB or greater drives are compatible with the XPS 9343 - 13 laptop ?

Thanks

Answer:Does 9343 Dell 2015 XPS 13 i5-5200U support NVME drive?

If you want to know what it supports, go to the Dell download site and look at the specifications manual.  In the Storage area it will say SATA or SATA, PCIe  and note whether there is an M.2 option.
If it has the PCIe option it probably has the SATA option and a PCIe drive seems to be set up a SATA by Dell from the factory, depending on the system.
How old is your system?

Samsung 950 Pro work and boot fine on XPS 9343 just make sure that you install Windows 10 in GPT partition for UEFI not MBR. The problem is XPS 9343 only supported PCI-E x2 not x4 max read speed is around 800Mb/s and write around 700Mb/s on ATTO.

Just found a very interesting problem.  I just purchased a new 27" monitor and connected to my Dell XPS (9343) using a mini DisplayPort to HDMI cable.  The laptop was on and running when I connected everything and closed the lid.  Everything was working beautifully, until I ran WIndows update and had to reboot.  Then all *** broke loose.  The machine started beeping like crazy and the battery charge light started blinking orange then white and then it shut down.  After I recovered from my almost heart attack (I thought my laptop had died)...I opened the lid and hit the power button and it started up fine.  I closed the lid after it rebooted, and continued to work fine.  So as a test, I restarted the laptop again with the lid closed while the external monitor was connected and again the beeping and the orange light blinking.  Proceeded to turn it back on with the lid open...everything fine.  I checked the BIOS settings and everything seems to be normal.   It seems there's a problem with this laptop not being able to be restarted in the closed lid position when an external monitor is connected (something I do ALL THE TIME with my Lenovo work laptop that is also connected to an external monitor).   Has anyone else had this problem?  Is Dell aware of this issue??

Hi:
After upgrading my XPS13 to last Creator Update (Build 1709) I face a lot of wireless issues.

Many wireless networks availables do not show on the list of available networks even if are active and I can connect with other devices
takes a very long time to connect to wireless networks and shows the yellow triangle and need to try several times until it connects.
After sleeping or hibernating the laptop it does not connect to any wireless network. I need to restart and wait for quite a long time (over 5 minutes sometimes) until XPS13 connects again.
XPS13 easily disconnects from active wireless networks

Before updating to Windows Creator Update (Build 1709), XPS13 worked like a charm.

Already run Dell diagnosys and did not detect anythinh wrong.
Uninstalled and reinstalled Dell Wireless 1560 802.11 ac

But still facing the wireless issues. It makes working with my XPS13 difficult.
So I would like to know:

How could I check what is wrong?
Could I uninstall the 1709?
if that was not possible: How could I do a fresh install (and do not loose the Windows Pro upgrade I bought some months ago)?

Many thanks!
Pak

I know that many users find that the touchpad on XPS 13 (Early 2015) is not responsive, has poor scrolling performance etc. and tried to install many different types of 3rd party drivers.
I have found a solution that has dramatically improved touchpad performance in Windows 10 (for Dell XPS 13 - 9343).
It does not require any Synaptics drivers (trust me, I have manually updated the driver many times from 3rd party websites, the solutions didn't work)
This requires registry changes:
1. Run - regedit
2. Navigate to: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE -> SOFTWARE -> Microsoft -> Windows -> CurrentVersion -> PrecisionTouchPad
3. Change the "CurtainDismissDistance" and "CurtainDismissTime" to 0 (this will eliminate any lag or delays)
4. Change the "GestureScrollMaxDistance" to your liking (I set it as 40 (hexadecimal value)
5. Restart

It works in Windows 10. You may want to create system restore point before doing the above. Cheers

Answer:XPS 13 (9343) Touchpad Fix in Windows 10

to be honest, it is pure luck. I just stumbled upon it.
same as you and many other users, I have installed the Synaptics drivers and 3rd party dell drivers. Because I never got to the point that the Synaptics settings panel appear in my control panel/mouse settings, I went to forums to see what others did, and they went to registry to alter the Synaptics driver registry settings.
But then, I thought in reverse, if the Synaptics drivers never properly installed in Windows 10, then there must be a "generic" or "original" Microsoft driver functioning, and that is the moment when I started to search for PrecisionTouchpad registry settings, and I could not believe that the answer is already staring at me in the eye!
I suspect someone at Microsoft or someone at Dell has figured this out, or could have figured this out, as software & driver engineers are supposed to review every hidden setting, but it is a pity no one gets to the point of publishing this possible fix. And it is a pity because the XPS 13 is a wonderful little laptop, and now that the touchpad performance is nearly 80-90% of a Macbook Air/Pro, I am a happy man!!

I have using a XPS 13 9343 for about 7 months and have been satisfied with almost everything regarding the hardware EXCEPT the touchpad. I know that there are lots of other people here with the same problem.
The touchpad sometimes:- makes the cursor shake and/or move on its own without any user input- generates ghost clicks- freezes totally
The problems occur somewhat randomly, but more often if the laptop has been in sleep mode instead of power off. Sometimes the problems start right away, sometimes after x minutes/hours of use.
So far I've tried everything from changing settings, un-/reinstalling drivers, upgrading BIOS and also making sure that the touchpad is clean, but nothing makes the problem go away. So far I've just lived with the problem and used USB mouse if needed. However, I really need a laptop that works as expected and since the problem has persisted regardless of driver updates etc, I have to start making decisions what to do next.
Any ideas? Has anyone actually got a faulty trackpad working with just driver upgrades or should I start demanding changing the unit to a new one?

Now that the video flickering issue has been resolved, I am now frequently encountering a very frustrating problem with my new XPS 13 (9343).   If I stop using the touchpad for a few minutes (not sure how many, sometimes it's 1 or 2, sometimes its 30), then mouse pointer disappears completely and the touchpad does not respond.  I can click, swipe, tap, etc. but there is no pointer.  When it happens I am forced to use the touch screen to shut down the machine and restart it so I can get the touchpad and pointer to work again.  Has anyone else encountered this problem?

Answer:XPS 13 (9343) Touchpad stops working

I have the same problem. I am using Windows 10 Pro. I have tried every touchpad driver version I could find with no luck. I am currently using this driver: Cypress Semiconductor, Inc, dated 6/24/2015, version 2.5.1.72.
I often find it happening when playing a youtube video or something like that, but that's probably just because I don't use the trackpad for a few minutes while watching the video.
When it happens the mouse pointer is either completely gone, or it is "frozen" in some random position on the screen and the trackpad is not moving it. It happens once or twice a day for me, and I then restart the PC to fix - annoying.
I feel 99% certain that it is a driver issue - and that no driver has been created for the Cypress Trackpad in the PC that actually works in Windows 10. If anybody know of a driver that actually works I'd love to get the details.

Hello.  I would be grateful if someone can help me with solving the following battery issue.
My XPS13 9343 (with Windows 10, 2015 model) recently stopped charging when connected.  I have conducted BIOS test, stress test, system test, battery test recommended on Dell forum, but could not find any issues.
Then ran device manager and checked & updated drivers, tested for virus, scanned the system, but could not detect any issues.
Lights on AC adopter is on (static) , and the front light under the touch pad turn on white briefly when connected then turn off immediately when plugged in (when disconnected, orange light comes on).
It seems charging is disabled...I might have touched keys without realizing (I checked whether there were hot key to enable/disable charging, but could not find one).
Since it is an ultrabook, and the battery has no issues, I have not opened the back to take out the battery.
I brew into the connecting hole, but it did not solve the issue.
Please help!

Answer:XPS 9343 (2015) battery not charging - no issues with battery or AC adopter when tested

If the system doesn't detect the AC adapter correctly, the battery won't charge.  That's the first thing to check - F2 at powerup.  If the adapter shows unknown, either it, the DC jack, or the mainboard is bad.  Replace parts in that order.
If the system DOES correctly identify the AC adapter, but the battery won't charge, odds are (particularly given the amber light), the battery is the faulty part.

Hi,
So I've just picked up my brand new Dell XPS 13 (9343) laptop today and everything is working perfectly. The only issue that I have with it at the moment is the touchpad scroll speed as I feel it is too slow for my liking. Is there a way to increase the scroll speed?

i'm facing similar issues here. the touchpad reacts way to slow when i'm moving the curser or if i scroll up/down. it takes around half a second to move the cursor.
is there any way to fix this?

Was hoping to have some help with resolving my problem.

Over the past few weeks, I have noticed that the trackpad on my XPS 9550 (2015) has been rising, especially in the bottom right-hand corner.  At first it only rose a very negligible amount but now the corner has noticeably risen and both left- and right-click do not register.  If the laptop remains turned on for more than a couple hours the trackpad rises even higher though not as much as I've seen happen to other owners'.  I haven't used the laptop in over a week now in the hopes of avoiding any other issues that may arise.
From what I've read, this is a common problem due to a bulging battery and should be remedied as soon as possible.  For this, I have a few questions:
-Should I be worried about permanent trackpad/case damage?  Some owners have stated that at a certain point the trackpad will become damaged and must be replaced.
-Is the battery a safety issue?  I have the laptop on to make this post but I am worried about turning it on at all.
-What are my options for resolving this issue?  My laptop is out of warranty so I am unsure as to what the procedure would be for replacing the battery.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Answer:XPS 9550 (2015) - Battery bulging, pushing up trackpad

-Should I be worried about permanent trackpad/case damage?  Some owners have stated that at a certain point the trackpad will become damaged and must be replaced.
Yes, remove the battery ASAP. The laptop may work without it on AC power.
-Is the battery a safety issue?  I have the laptop on to make this post but I am worried about turning it on at all.
Yes, it is a moderate fire hazard, may start burning if punched, and it should be handled with extreme care. Funnily, this is not stated in any safety warning in the service manual, perhaps because the batteries were in fact not expected to swell.
-What are my options for resolving this issue?  My laptop is out of warranty so I am unsure as to what the procedure would be for replacing the battery.
Faded capacity is considered normal wear and may not be covered by warranty. I believe swollen batteries, especially soon after warranty expiry, should not be considered something normal and should be fixed for free by the manufacturer with a recall even after warranty is expired, particularly because they may damage other components and because they are a fire hazard. Some buyers have reported that Dell did that for them, but this seems to depend on the particular case and Dell centre.

For some strange reason, the trackpad gestures to scroll or whatever is no longer working. I use to be able to scroll down a webstite using the 2 finger dragging down gestures. Is there a fix for this?  I think it stopped working after I ran some Windows 10 update the other day.

I'm having a very serious problem where the touchpad is no longer usable (this laptop is only 1.5 years old!) because any slight touch of it causes the laptop to instantly fall asleep - screen goes black, lights go out on keypad, have to wake it up again pressing enter or power button.  I have never seen anything like this in my life and it started suddenly today.  I now have no choice but to use an external mouse.
Rebooted multiple times - it did nothing. Tried updating driver uselessly in device manager, of course it says it's current.  Tried disabling the touchpad driver and installing Synaptic driver instead, installation fails. Tried finding another or newer driver to install from Dell - put in my serial number on Dell website and it returns a list of drivers with precisely ZERO of them being for a touchpad - so there is nothing. I can't even tell if this is a physical problem or a driver problem.  It seems way too weird to be purely physical.
Any help Dell? I'm not counting on it.

There are forum posts all over the internet of people trying to find ways to install hacked drivers or trying to find workarounds to get 3 finger swiping for navigating webpages or whatever else they want to assign these gestures to.  I know Dell is best bro's with Microsoft and they worked with you to get the precision touchpad feature in Windows 8 working with the XPS 13 9343, but it has worked out miserably.  I have personally tested the new version of the precision touchpad driver in Windows 10 where it supports 3 and 4 finger gestures.  It does not offer the granularity that people have come to expect from ultrabook touchpads.  You still cannot use 3 finger swiping to navigate in web pages.

Can we just accept that going with the precision touchpad driver was a bad idea?  Can we accept the fact that people expect features found on $400 laptops to be included their highest end ultrabooks?  Can Dell please make their loyal customers happy and let us use our touchpads the way we want to and not how Microsoft thinks we should?

Answer:Dear Dell: The Microsoft Precision touchpad driver for the XPS 13 9343 is garbage. Nobody likes it. Please make your customers happy and release a good one.

Sorry but I have to disagree. Microsoft is trying to establish a new standard with their Precision drivers. If they have success, in a couple of years all notebooks might have the same touchpad driver with the same features, and by that unify the touchpad experience across all manufacturers.
Notebook touchpads in Windows have been a pain forever, and this issue is about to be solved. Wait for Windows 10 to come out, there will be more options for gestures.
Speaking about the precision and responsiveness of the XPS 13 9343's touchpad, it is already near perfect.

I have a Lenovo x220tablet, alltough it took some time to adjust. But now i'm happy with it. But there's something wrong with the trackpad. I allready taught myself to use it without the pysical buttons in the bottom, and now make fully use of al that synaptics has to offer. But sometimes I have to use the buttons, because it comes handy when dragging something or whatever. At first, I did not like the buttons, but the where usable, but with time, they got worse. It is very hard to explain this for me in English, but, thats why I made a little movie which is linked below. Anyone suggestions what to do about it?Of course I've used google, and found many many topics about the trackpad, but that were mostly driver problems. http://youtu.be/a4XyxWopbt8 The click is so loud, it seems to get stuck somewhere and I have to push very hard. Almost like there's something stuck, like sand between it. But it's perfectly clean.Any advise (besides; do not use it) is welcome. And apologies for my English

Answer:X220t trackpad/touchpad

Hi, timpel_800

From the looks, sounds, and general functionality of the TrackPad, I would guess that there is a hardware issue of sorts. In the video, you say that the click function works, but only if you do it twice, correct? And the noise was far louder than a TrackPad is supposed to be, I think. With all this in mind, I would contact support and see if you can get this repaired. The number for support in the Netherlands is +31 (0)20 513 3939 and is open Monday through Friday 9am-5pm.

Best of luck,
Adam

Today my x201 has lost all trackpad and touch pad function.   Hard disk constantly running.   No restore points listed to help remove the problem.   Everything works okay in Safe Mode.   Rebooting several times has not helped. Could this be related to the Microsoft Bad KB.......69 update? I have not installed any new software recently. I can only use the pen to access menus.    How can I remove recent KB installations using just the pen? Hope someone can help me soon Update:   I have managed to remove the bad MS update but to improvement.   Next I added a new user (also set as administrator) and the trackpad and touch pad function is now working normally but only with the new user account. Would someone tell me if I can remove my own Administrator Account and what effect this will have,  i.e. what data might I lose?   Can I save data and reinstall it to a new account?

Answer:Trackpad and touchpad not working

Hi Beemer,

Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!

I?m sorry to hear that trackpad and touchpad is not working properly in your Lenovo ThinkPad X201.

Since the devices work fine in safe mode, probably a corrupted driver is causing the issue. Go to control panel -> Device manager, uninstall the drivers listed under Mice and other pointing devices. Restart the system and let Windows install the generic drivers for the device. Check if the trackpad and touchpad works fine now. Later, you may download the drivers from Lenovo Support page and install them. If you have any difficulties in finding the driver, please share the MTM number of your device.

Click here to understand how to transfer files and settings from one user account to another with administrator rights.

Hope this helps!

Best regards,
Mithun.

Hi 1) I just bought the Y580 online. The trackpad is terrible. - How do I make the right-side and bottom touch scrolling to work ? just like a normal laptop ?? - I changed the sensitivity settings and inspite of that the motion of the cursor is not uniform. When the right side of my finger is contact with it, the cursor stops moving a little and it is okay with the center of my finger.Do any of you experience this? If not, I need to get this looked into. I don't think the problem is with the software, it's just the material with which the trackpad is made, does not have a right coefficient of friction. - The two finger scrolling does not start. When I do the two finger scroll, the cursor change is seen almost 10 seconds later and even after that, it is almost impossible to scroll through my pages. Is that the case for everyone?  - The left/right click on the trackpad is noisy 2) Made the mistake a buying a lower resolution screen. How do I return this thing? When I talked to sales they are asking for a 15% "restocking" fee. That is terrible as well. I never should have gone with Lenovo.

Answer:Y580 Trackpad (or Touchpad) Help

- Not sure if there is a right side and bottom touch scrolling, will test it tonight- not uniform? Means if you place your finger on the right side of the touchpad then move to the center compared to the center move to the left, the distance is different?- 2 finger scrolling not tested, will check it tonight- I am not sure how to help you with the touchpad being noisy when clicking. Do note that this is a 1 piece touchpad compared to the conventional touchpad with 2 buttons below which is different. Use double tap on touchpad to do a left click but right click is unavoidable. - low res screen... can check with sales if you can top-up for upgrade?hope this helps.

Hello all Since 2 days my touchpad (inclusive the buttons) and my trackpad aren't workinig anymore. They are enabled and in the device manager under "mice and other pointers", there is no touchpad to be found. Do you have any idea what could have caused this problem? Thank you very much!

Hello everyone,  I am having to send my Lenovo ThinkPad P50 to the service depot to have the touchpad and perhaps more replaced due to the trackpad not performing properly. The right click works intermittently both on the bottom and top right click button. The scroll feature at times stops working and the left click usually starts performing right click operations randomly. I knew it wasn't the driver after uninstalling and reinstalling it a few times including the keyboard driver. Has anyone here ever had to have their touchpad replaced?

Answer:Replacing Touchpad/Trackpad

Hi RegEdit1 ,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

As the touchpad and buttons may have erratic behavior but not when using a USB mouse, then best that you have your warranty coverage work for you as the entire upper case that includes the touchpad mechanism to be checked.

Reviewing the hardware disassembly guide would take several screws needed to be worked at for the repair.
Sending it over could be a good option in terms of hardware issue for full functionality check.

I dunno if it's a touchpad or a trackpad I have but there was a program along with it called like Apoint or something that would run and allowed me to change the settings on the touchpad. I have looked and can find no other way of accessing the touchpad settings. Well the last time I remember it working was before I updated Windows Vista, well now the program no longer runs I had it set to disable the touchpad when an external mouse was detected and it no longer does that. I went into its folder located at C:\Program Files\DellTpad\Apoint.exe and double clicked it and nothing happened. It use to run at startup but no longer does and I checked and it is still set to run at startup but does not, any clues as to what is going on? I believe I am using Windows Vista Home Premium.
I managed to fix it by going to Device Manager in the control panel uninstalling Dell Touchpad and rebooting.

Dell,
Touchpad  replacing  Trackpad  in Laptops

Users of the laptops are feeling difficult to use the touchscreen facility in the recent laptops, because the screen is perpendicular to the hand and fingers. In most of the laptops, the trackpad and the area left and right of it are vacant.  This area can be used as touchpad replacing trackpad,  as shown in the following figures.  This new touchpad is parallel to the hand and so easy to write, scribble, select, swipe and do digital signatures.

The touchpad can be enabled to function as trackpad using special key combination(s).  Many app and program icons can be displayed on this touchpad similar to those in tablets and smartphones.
Additional modifications can be included in this idea to make this feature very useful in laptops, desktops, All in one computers.
Reference:
The Touch Bar on MacBook Pro.
This Touch Bar on MacBook Pro is very small, difficult to view and difficult to reach by fingers for digital signatures and other actions as mentioned in the following weblink.

Guys I see hundreds of posts on this old and aggravating topic with totally guesswork "answers" from Microsoft, help forums, including this one. There has to be an answer, right?

BTW this seems common on all types of laptops irrespective of make. I have tried this with both the vendor [lenovo] driver and with standard MS provided "mouse" driver. No diff in this regard though the packages are very different [lenovo very complex]
Also, this is a new phenomenon on this particular unit. In the past, no issues. Windows power-plan update?

as title says. Use laptop. Leave laptop [plugged in or not does not matter]. Return to use laptop after hours. Laptop awakes by normal means but no touchpad/trackpad etc function. Logoff, logon, still no touchpad cursor movement [frozen in centered position].

There is no Power Plan setting for "mouse" or touchpad or trackpad.
There is no Advanced Tab in Device Manager for same
There is no sleep/power/etc settings anywhere in Device Manager for same
There is no Windows error related to the problem
Full reboot required to gain coherency

Something in Power Mgmt, I guess, is offing the touchpad but the parameter is not obvious.

Someone somewhere knows this answer, right??

Answer:Touchpad Trackpad inoperable after sleep

Other then the button to disable the trackpad being somehow accidentally pushed, A lot of the times this problem is reported, And I keep going through all the options. If you have done all the fixes, the problem is most likely with the touchpad itself on the laptop. It is usually a hardware issue. I would call the laptop company and go through their troubleshooting steps (even though forums usually cover all those angles well). But it is usually hardware if all the fixes that are suggested are applied.

Hey guys, I'm having problems with the touchpad buttons: the system can't distinguish a left click from a right click. Whenever I click one of the two buttons the system reads it as if I'm clicking on both and keep pressing. I tried also to disable them and use the trackpad but also those buttons are not working well. They just work for a couple of minutes and then they stop. However if I run the Thinkvantage suite they seem to work fine and the system reads the click properly. What do you think is wrong? Thanks

Answer:Touchpad and Trackpad Buttons not Working

Today I noticed both my touchpad and joystick stopped working.  I could move the cursor but the clicks would not register.  I restarted and it worked again.  I recall a couple of days ago I updated the drivers, one of them I think was for the touchpad.

Hi all,  Having puchased a X1 Carbon few days ago, I realised that my trackpad and touchpad are acting erractically when I use the mouse at the same time. I detected these erractic movements due to some accidental touching of the trackpad and touchpad.  For example; my trackpad cursor would display a vertical and horizontal scrolling icons when I move the trackpad and I could not scroll my document using my mouse and touchpad. The scrolling icons would disappear after a short while and I would no longer move the cursor with the trackpad. However, the trackpad and mouse are able to move the cursor. However, scrolling remain unresponsive. I restart the machine and all is fine again till I tried to control the cursor with the trackpad again. I tried to disable the trackpad and touchpad since I have a mouse connected but only the trackpad can be disable.  This is my first Thinkpad and I assume users will disable both the trackpad and touchpad with a connected mouse. I do not know if these problem exist out of the box since I connect the mouse to it on my 3rd day of usage and I found them due to the accidental touching of the trackpad last night. Further trial and error confirmed their erratic movements. I tried to re-install the drivers and navipoint but the issue remained.  Is my trackpad and mousepad having problem for these erratic movements and by default, both the trackpad and touchpad cannot be disabled in Thinkpad?

If I press any of the trackpad keys the cursor is unresponsive for ~2 seconds. The problems occurs a while after booting. If I restart the machine it doesn't happen. What should I do?

Answer:Trackpad keys freezing touchpad

I noticed exactly the same behaviour after upgrading the driver to version 15.3.2.0. Also when i use the trackpoint, the touchpad freezes 2 seconds..... Somehow the UltraNav driver always seems to give some kind of problems... :-( With the buttons it only happens with the red lined buttons above the touchpad. Not with the two buttons below it. --jan

Hi Lenovo & all, I use the trackpoint most of the time, but recently after updating the drivers for a number of times from Lenovo update manager I found out that the touchpad on my T60 is not working right. Symptom is that whenever my T60 is tilted forward or backward (i.e. not sitting horizontally flat), then there will be great difficult trying to control the pointer with the touchpad (not responding, etc). Did somebody encounter similar problem?

Answer:Weird Touchpad / TrackPad problem on T60

I found that the problem can be due to the palm rest region being pressed down my my palm:If I press the palm region up on the edge (as it flex a little bit when I use force), then the touchpad works fine even when the laptop is tilted. However, when I stop pressing up on the edge, especially after I have put my palms onto the palm rest to type again, then the touchpad stop behaving normally again It is a design fault of T60, or is it just my T60? Can I have it fixed?

I recently bought a refurbished Carbon X1. The trackpoint and the touchpad top buttons don't work. The touchpad and bottom button do work. Touchscreen does work. So far, everything else has been okay. The "Enable Trackpoint" checkbox is greyed out in Control Panel / Hardware / Mouse / Thinkpad tab. After searching forums and web, I have tried the following, none of which have worked:- update all drivers - ensure windows 7 updates are up to date- uninstall lenovo driver and install synaptics driver (didn't work)  then reinstall lenovo driver (didn't work)- disable and enable trackpoint in BIOS (with reboots in between)- reset, power off, and reset via the hole in the base No luck so far. Any assistance greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Has anyone tried replacing the keyboard on a 20A7 (2014) X1 with a 2015 keyboard?  I really hate the trackpad on the 2014 model that doesn't have seperate buttons.  Don't even care if I can't keep the fingerprint reader (which has moved to a new location).

I wonder if it is possible to exchange the very unhandy touchpad in my 2014 X1 second generation to the new 2015 X1 Touchpad with the real buttons.I loved to use my T60 Trackpoint. Unfortunately, the trackpad and touchpad of my T460p stop working intermittently. The problem seems to occur after the laptop is going into hibernation. When it boots up afterwards, neither the trackpad nor the touchpad or the mouse buttons work, and the device manager shows the Synaptics device having a hardware issue. The problem persists when rebooting the system and even when using a different operation system (e.g. Ubuntu via a Live USB). I tried upgrading the Synaptics drivers (v19.0.19.1), which does not solve the problem though. I also tried different driver versions (e.g. the ones offered on the Lenovo site), without success. I encountered this problem both on Windows 10 Home & Windows 10 Enterprise Edition, as well as various Linux flavors (Ubuntu, Fedora). The only workaround that I found is to shut down the laptop, remove the battery and reboot it afterwards, which seems to reset the faulty state the touchpad is in. I strongly suspect that this is a problem with the firmware of either the mainboard or the Synpatics device itself, which puts it into an invalid state when going into hibernation. For now, I disabled hibernation mode, which avoids the problem but is not ideal of course. Did someone else run into this problem? Any ideas how to permanently fix this? I'm very happy with the T460p otherwise but this problem just drives me crazy as it's impossible to use a laptop without touchpad/trackpad when traveling.

Hello, I posted as a part of another thread before but decided to make my own thread for this. I have lost my lenovo partition and reinstalled windows 10 on a fresh install.  This has resulted in my trackpad being rendered unfunctional. I have tried all sorts of drivers to try and get it working but alas nothing has worked. I contacted the live support and they just told me to install the Lenovo companion and give that a go with the drivers from that, but it did nothing to help and ended up downloading the same drivers I tried before.   I have the same issues in Ubuntu also and there is no activity when it comes to the pad, the buttons dont work nor does the motion.  I have looked around on the internet and found next to no solutions for the problem I have.    On my device manager I have however one single unknown device, which I have tried to install drivers onto and that doesnt work also, so I have no idea what that could be.   I would like any advice at this point becuase its driving me mad and I am unable to return the laptop due to being currently in another country.   Thanks in advance.

The touchpad/ imagepad has many functions, but the simple ability to be unable to point to exactly where you need to 20% of the time, is making this almost unusable. Notebook details: HP Envy 17 - Windows 7 - Model - 17-3270NR I look forward to your help guys! The trackpad and touchpad of my Yoga stops working: the cursor freezes and after a while disappears from screen. Once the cursor is gone it does not appear again, even after a clean reboot. I have tried to enable it via the Control Panel Mouse settings or Input section of ?Lenovo Settings? application but had no success.
The problem has happened several times so far, always after the laptop sleeps due to inactivity. The only way I have found so far to bring the trackpad and touchpad back is by going to the BIOS settings and restoring the default configurations (I have never changed the BIOS settings on this PC, so I can?t figure out why this solves momentarily the problem).

Any ideas on why this problem is happening, and how to solve it without messing with the BIOS settings?

This is becoming really annoying, it has happened three times since yesterday (10/23/15).

My BIOS version when this first happened was 1.26 (GQET46WW), my current BIOS version is 1.27 (GQET47WW). My laptop runs Windows 10 Pro (automatically updated from the Windows 8.1 version delivered with the laptop).

I recently got this new Thinkpad T460p and installed Windows and Ubuntu in dual boot. Even after 3 Days there was no error. But today I noticed a quite annoying behaviour. When I boot into Windows (Start up --> Grub, select Windows Loader --> Windows 10 starts) there appears the loading cycle (those white points) and for a short moment, even before the locked Windows screen appears, I can see the cursor. But immediately after that (when the locked home screen appears) the laptop won't recognize any input via touchpad, buttons or trackpad andthere won't appear a cursor at all. I need to login and wait for about a minute (Whatever I do, the laptop won't recognize anything but the normal keyboard), thats the moment in which my Laptop realizes that there are more possibilities to input data then just the keyboard and recognizes everything (touchpad, buttons and trackpad).I already deinstalled the synaptic driver and reinstalled the latest update and even tried the one before that one just to be sure. Nothing fixed my problem yet.PS.: When I start into Ubuntu there is no Problem at all.PPS.: When I started into Windows a day ago It worked fine as well.

Just got the Yoga Pro 2 this week. I'm noticing a small movement in my clickpad (or whatever its calls) when I lightly tap on it. It feels like there is a 2 to 3 millimeter pocket of space under it before it provides resistance for the actual click motion. If you take your finger and just lightly tap your finger on the touchpad do you hear and feel a slight vibration, like it might be loose? I know it has to move downwards motion to activate the mouse click buttons, but I feel like there is movement in the pad before I get resitance for the click motion. I'm wondering if this is the design or I just got a slightly off designed one. Does it feel solid on your Yoga Pro 2?

Answer:Yoga 2 Pro Clickpad Touchpad Trackpad movement and vibrations

I had the same problem with mine.  Every time I'd just lightly tap the pad in order to "click", I'd actually hear a click.  Very annoying.  Some odd movement under the pad that just didn't seem right. I ended up exchanging it at Best Buy (where I bought it).  The best buy guy tried to claim it was normal, but didn't mind at all when I insisted that I wanted to exchange.  The replacement has no issues.

Hello all,

I unboxed this laptop today and the touchpad does not respond very well often requiring a few seconds of "wiggling" before it will work. It is also quite jumpy.

I have tried changing various settings including the sensitivity and the plam prevention, but to no avail.

I have tried this with multiple operating systems, including launching directly from a disc, and the problem persists.

Has anyone else had this experience, or any advice to share regarding this matter?

Thank you all very much for your time.

Answer:Qosmio X870-119 - Trackpad/Touchpad is extremely unresponsive

Hello,

I, too, have just unboxed a Qosmio X870-119 and have the same problem with the touchpad.

I noticed that the "unresponsiveness" happens most often when I leave the touchpad idle and untouched for a few seconds. When I do that, it then takes a couple seconds of wiggling for the cursor to start moving.

I've also toyed with all the options in the provided software, but to no avail. Maybe there's a fault with the driver ?

Thanks in advance for any help with this matter.

I could really use some help with this. I've searched all over the net and there isn't a real solution to this. Most threads are closed or never answered. I have a Dell Vostro 1510 and everything works fine but when doing things fast or under high cpu load my trackpad locks up for a second and if I try to keep using it it will trail slowly until I stop for a second then go and it works again. Something is temporarily locking it up and it can be very annoying during some things.

It is a Synaptics PS/2 Port TouchPad. Using "device driver update" produced no new hardware that matched better than what I have currently. The funny thing I noticed is the device drivers for my model on Dell doesn't match what I have..

http://goo.gl/9Cc53

None of those 3 under Keyboard/Mouse match what I have. Or do they? I matched the synaptic version and it didn't match anything there. Here is a list of my shipped system specs:

Answer:Vostro 1510 Touchpad/Trackpad Freezes Randomly

Ran the Dell diagnostics and using the symptom tree I ran the 2 tests that fit this issue (I guess it's a real common problem for it to be standard in the system tree) and it didn't detect any errors/issues. All passed. By the way, to clarify what I meant by High CPU Load I was speaking of the cylinder light on the keyboard dash. I think that's actually for the HDD not CPU. So again it seems to happen when the hdd is already under load.

I've been having an issue with my X270 laptop since I bought it. The laptop is running Windows 10. What happens is randomly (this can take weeks, or days) the trackpad and pointing stick completely stops working. The only solution is to uninstall the drivers and reinstall them using an external mouse. I've tried various versions of the drivers, including the latest, and it still continues to happen. Any solutions to fix this?

Hi I have an X100e (dual core turion ybased) which appears to have developed a problem with the left most key at the foot of the touchpad. Specifically, it has developed an annoying clicking sound periodically when in use. I believe the click may be something to do with a bar that may be sitting under the key to ensure that the whole key moves parallel to the keyboard when pressed (much like other wide keys such as the space bar, the shift or enter kes). What I would like to know is whether there is a way to reseat the key to resolve the clicking sound or whether rectification of the problem lies in returning the product to a service centre for the palm rest (part code: 60Y5284) to be changed. Roger

Roger- I just discovered a similar clicking/sticking problem for the "m" key on my x200s.  Did you ever find a solution to your problem? Thanks. Greg

I've tried everything. No one had ever had this problem, except me. Searching online and Youtube proved to be no help. I beg all of you who have experience with issues like this to please read.

When I first brought my laptop (ASUS Q304UA) , it was perfectly fine and no problems. However, up until 7 months into using it, the trackpad suddenly became unresponsive out of no where. It would jump around and fly everywhere when using it. The multi touch gestures would make the screen go crazy and do all sorts of zooms, multitasking, etc when just trying to scroll down. It was definitely unusable.

This prompted me to RMA it to ASUS, which took them one month to repair it. They had apparently replaced only the hard drive claiming it was a "bad sector" or whatever... Upon several hours of use after repairs, the problem was back.

I then RMA'd it a second time which made them replace the motherboard and trackpad. Unfortunately, the problem did come back, except it took a little longer (5 days/ 1week).

Now I know that this is NOT hardware because I encountered that restarts, restores, etc all solve the problem temporarily and then comes back. When messing with programs and devices, I feel the mouse gets a little better for a couple minutes but then resumes to its terrible and erratic behavior, rendering my laptop COMPLETELY useless.

I cannot do ANYTHING with this trackpad as it constantly jumps around and teleport making it EXTREMELY difficult to click on the ... Read more

Following some extremely helpful posts here, I've succeeded in installing Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit on my HP Pavilion 15-n228us. I can't figure out how to adjust any settings on the touch pad / track pad, however. It's overly sensitive right now and interferes with typing. I assume I'm missing a driver that will enable me to control it?

I have two issues and would appreciate any help.  In a nutshell: Bluetooth module is in place, but doesn't appear in Device Manager. What is the part no. for the cable that connects the bluetooth module?Touchpad/trackpad stopped working after disconnecting/reconnecting its ribbon cable (while checking the bluetooth module) - I can see the little gold fingers at the motherboard end are now messed up. What is the part no. for this trackpad ribbon cable? In more detail:1) On my T430S I replaced the bluetooth daughter board because I thought it might be faulty - but I can still not see any bluetooth hardware in device manager, and no driver installation seems to get it to show. Can someone please tell me the part no. of the ribbon cable and small board 'Bluetooth Wireless Radio Switch FPC' (see https://support.lenovo.com/au/en/documents/pd023563).2) After messing around with the bluetooth module (see above), thetrackpad/touchpad and trackpoint no longer work. I can see now that the ribbon cable's small gold fingers are damaged (the cable poking straight up from the trackpad and connecting to the motherboard. This is the more serious problem - but I can't work out what the part number is for this ribbon cable. My keyboard bezel does not have a fingerprint reader.Thank-you again for any help

The cursor is jumping around when you lift your finger from the trackpad. I am finding it very difficult to use Photoshop and cannot do anything precise which is ironic as this is a precision touchpad. There is nothing precision about it.
In this post someone found a firmware Dell for XPS13, Is there something similar for 5559?
Thank Very Much

Just making sure I'm reading your post correctly, you do have the precision touchpad on the Inspiron 5559 ? Correct ? If you don't know for sure, go to device manager, stroll down to "Mice And Other Pointed Devices, and then expand it. Hopefully, you'll see touchpad driver.

I am running the latest build of Windows 10 (build 10240).

Now that release date is coming driver updates are arriving for my laptop (Acer ES1-111M). One of which is for the Synaptics touchpad. When I apply this driver and restart my laptop the trackpad no longer works and the new driver has an error in Device Manager and cannot start.

This device cannot start (error code 10)

The specified request is not a valid operation for the target device.

If I try to update the driver it says the latest version is installed. I have to rollback the driver to the previous one supplied by Microsoft and the trackpad works again, However the entire process repeats when the Synaptics trackpad update is automatically installed again by Windows Update.

Does anyone know how to solve this?

Thanks.

Product: HP Spectre x360Product #: L0Q59UA#ABL Hi, I'm having a problem with the touchpad's sensitivity and responsiveness. My father bought me this laptop a week or two ago and it's been great. By far the best laptop I've had thus far, but now it is having a major issue with the touchpad. I've scoured and googled this problem and these forums and found similar things but all the solutions offered were ineffective and I'm also having some problems I didn't see reported about. The touchpad was fine at first, and whenever I restart the laptop, it's fine and works as intended. However, a few minutes into use, if that, it starts to act up. By this, I mean the following: The cursor does not go where I intend itIt's laggyLeft click results in that omni-directional scrolling icon and trying to move the mouse means scrolling/moving the page.Right click moves off to the side and is generally weird and cannot click accurately.I can no longer soft tap to click/select something. The mouse moves on its own. As I was typing this, it tried to select/move/edit stuff. It's very erratic and makes typing or clicking or selecting very difficult. The page scrolls down on its own.I'm starting to think my laptop is haunted. There's more I can't think of right now, so I might edit the original post/comment with more info or make a subsequent post in this thread. I've tried to clean the touchpad with a lightly wetted towel (to get rid of any oil finger stains or whatever), and follow... Ok...this issue is really starting to drive me nuts.  Hopefully someone can help! I have a 2015 X1 Carbon.  Nearly every time I try to type a message in Outlook 2013, my palm brushes up against the Touchpad upper left corner and Outlook stops whatever I'm doing and changes mailboxes.   Apparently, Outlook 2013 lets you switch mailboxes by one finger tapping the upper left and bottom left portion of the Touchpad and I have multiple mailboxes. I've turned Palm Check up to "Max" in the Synaptics Touchpad Settings, turned off one finger gestures and even set the Edge Tap and Gesture Filtering on so much that you can't use any gestures on the touchpad.  Still, Outlook seems to override all of that and still allows single taps to change mailboxes and, accordingly, inadvertant Palm Checks while typing. The solution in my eyes would be to turn off  all Outlook 2013 touchpad gestures but it doesn't appear you can control that within Outlook.  Windows 8 gestures (Edge Swipes) are already turned off. Any other thoughts?   I don't seem to have this issue typing in any other program which is weird.  I typed out this plea for help just fine in my browser.  I did get my keyboard replaced last week (for a bad key that came from the factory) and it seems to have become much worse with that but it was there before.  I checked the Lenovo website and I'm on the latest Synaptics driver : 18.1.27.14 Could it be a ... So I have had a very... VERY... irritating problem with my Thinkpad. For the first 6 or so months I had the laptop it worked fine. Then, the left click on the touchpad was functioning like the right click (bringing up a menu).  I immediately disabled the touchpad and then used the trackpad right and left clicks which worked perfectly. After another 4 or 5 months, those buttons stopped working altogether. I could still use the touchpad to move the arrow, but I couldn't click on anything. I bought an external USB mouse and that worked fine for another 2 months. Then for a few weeks, it would work on and off. I'd have to wiggle it around in the USB ports to get the laptop to recognize it. (it had nothing to do with the ports... there were 3 of them and they all worked fine). Then it stopped working completely, AND, my laptop refuses to acknowledge ANY USB I plug in.  I have run out of options now. I can't even install anything, download any files from lenovo website. I can't do anything. Does anyone know if it is still salvageable? Has anyone had the same problem? The lenovo digitizer for tablets.... would that work for this thinkpad? (sorry... not as tech savvy as the rest of you) Thanks a bunch,Amanda

Hi guys, I am trying to maintain my doughter's school aptop but encountered something exceding my limited expertise. Since about 10 days the touchpad, buttons and the red thingie stopped working. I have read all the forum issues, uninstalled the drivers and re-installed new ones (first through the lenovo sulotion centre, then the synaptics generic version). About 6 times now. That didn't work. It says "component not present, not working correctly or divers not fully installed, error 24" (translation from Dutch, probably used some incorrect terms).Running windows 10 on this t420. All worked fine untill this happened. I saw that some new mouse drivers have been installed around the day of malfunction but can't find how or where to remove those (still getting used to this windows 10).Any suggestions?

Answer:Lenovo Thinkpad T420 trackpad and touchpad right/left click stopped working

So far, there's just 2 of us with trackpoint / touchpad problems as a result of installing Windows 10.  My post:  https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/ThinkPad-T400-T500-and-newer-T/T420-Win-10-Pro-Ultra-Nav-19-00-12-61-Tr... I've combed through this forum and have no one else reporting these same issues; most are reporting that left and right click buttons are working, but the middle button did not work.  In my case, it was the opposite; the middle button scrolled (albeit very choppy), and the left / right buttons were dead.for my Trackpoint.  It's not a hardware issue, as all buttons function as normal in Win 7, but upon installation of Win 10, the buttons do not work.  I went so far as to do a clean install of Win 10 to ensure there were no conflicts between Win 10 and any leftover Win 7 system files, only to end up with the same old left and right button problems. So until the Ultra Nav drivers to enable full functionality of trackpoint / touchpad device, the only solution is to use a physical mouse or revert back to your prior operating system.

When scrolling with the index finger on my right hand I will regularly hover over and lightly touch the left button with my left index finger in anticipation of the link/button/text box etc that I am about to click on. I have always done this an never encoutered any issues on the numerous laptops I have owned and used in the past). When I do this on my newly axquired Lenovo Yoga 900 it causes the mouse pointer to lag momentarily. I have updated drivers (v19.0.17.57), I have turned off ALL Multi-Finger options (2-finger, 3-finger and 4-finger) and reduced Palm Tracking to the minimum. Is this behavior isolated to me, or are other experiencing the same behavior? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Good evening, Every now and then, after using the laptop for a while, or getting it from sleep mode, the touchpad simply quits working as it should. Clicking by simply tapping the pad stops working, and clicking by really pushing in the trackpad itself will only activate either right or left click. Sometimes it even quits working at all. After rebooting the device the issues will be over, which makes me think it is some sort of a software issue. Also every now and then, while working in my student room, my laptop loses its internet connection. While there are many Wi-Fi signals in my student room-complex, it can't detect any of them. Then, after waiting for some time and rebooting the device once or twice, the connection will get restored, and all the other signals are back as well. Both issues aren't very huge, yet very annoying when working on a paper or so. Especially since I bought the laptop a little longer then two months ago, assuming due to it's price and the ThinkPad?s reputation (being able to stop a bullet and yet still work) this is a huge disappointment Anyone who has a solution for me for either one of these problems? Thanks!

Answer:Lenovo W540 randomly loses Wifi connections and its trackpad/touchpad often doesn't work

I have also noticed some wifi problems on the W540. I have the Intel AC7260, and occassionally, it stops working - reporting a driver problem. When this happens, it is not working at all and cannot scan for available wifi networks - exactly like you report. However, if I do a quick uninstall and scan for hardware changes within device manager, normal operation is restored, without having to reboot repeatedly. After a while, it will stop working again - this is not too frequent, however. I assume it is a dirver problem.

Power to the People

Your comments and suggestions have helped create one of the most exciting new versions in recent years. Over the years WinPatrol had grown with the ability to detect a large range of internal changes within Windows. In the process, WinPatrol lost its easy to use feel that encouraged you to tell your friends and family to download our program. Version 29, built on your feedback, returns WinPatrol to it's roots and will have you blogging and tweeting by the end of the week.

One complaint I've heard, especially from new users, is the volume of alert messages when there is a new program install or malware attack. Over the years, the number of critical locations monitored by WinPatrol has grown but it?s also source of frustration. While everyone appreciates WinPatrol alerting them to an infiltration, the number of locations we reveal combined with numerous malware pop ups is overwhelming.

Installing a legitimate program will typically cause new entries in the Startup Programs, an IE Helper or two and multiple Services. A malware attack may create 10 times the changes all generating individual warnings from WinPatrol. Instead of having to respond to each change most of us would rather just have everything fixed with a single action. That?s WinPatrol v29.

The new version will save users from as much frustration as possible and includes new options when unexpected changes occur. Based on a single user response, WinPatrol will evaluate a response ... Read more

Answer:Bitdefender IS 2015 vs ESET Smart Security vs Panda IS 2015

ESS is overall winner imo. why?
* It's CPU usage is 0% in my system most of time. I'm using ESS 9 beta so mine takes 100+ MB ram but it will take less ram then it in stable version. Ram is not the issue here coz AV who use ram r better then who use page file to hide their actual ram. Ram is faster then HD.
*System impact is very less on almost every system i feel like feather in my system but it depends wut system u r using. If u r using dinosaur age system like atom processor with 1 GB ram & slow HD then it ESS will feel u slower. No slow boot time issue not even when doing gaming or multitasking.
*User interface is good & can be understandable but it's ' more ' friendly to whom who knows how to configure it. If u r a newbie with no knowledge how to configure it then u can be in trouble. Check for guru guidance of ESS
[How To Set] ESET Smart Security f
*U maybe know that no security tool gives u 100% protection but ESET always gives u a better protection coz of it's latest 0 day malware threat detection/good web threat protection/smart real time protection/better HIPS & firewall protection then window firewall/ very good at detecting PUP infections. It's BB is not good as EAM but u can be usre it will give u a good level protection.
* IMO overall winner is ESS, i don't know much about panda but it's a cloud AV & if ur net is down or u r cut from internet coz of some issue, u won't feel secure. Though bitdef... Read more

Can any windows 10 user confirm that avast is performing as expected or there are issues?

If not fully stable, my only options are WD, Avira or Webroot.

Thanks

I am experiencing an annoying problem - my trackpad stopped working. I have narrowed it down to a driver issue. Because if i uninstall the "Synaptics ThinkPad UltraNav"-driver the trackpad starts working. As soon I install it again it stops. I have tried rebooting and it's no difference. When the driver is installed I cannot even the "Mouse" dialog in control panel.  I have tried the latest drivers: 18.0.7.40 as well as the previous driver. Same result. I have downloaded the drivers through the website as well as with Lenovo support app.  My model is the new X1 Carbon, model: 20A7005UM5 not even 2 weeks old. It worked until yesterday. The only thing done since is the regular update by Windows 8.1. I even tried a system restore before the updates but now there is no difference.  I want to point out that, when driver is uninstalled, the trackpad works, but without all the functionality. Any suggestions would be very appreciated. Regards,Jan

Hello and good day to all!

Just have a question for anyone that could possibly help me out a bit, I am in the process of putting Windows 7 on Toshiba Satellite C855D-S5104 laptop with an AMD E-300 APU @ 1.3GHz and 4Gb RAM, and was curious as to which IS software would have the laptop running better with its slower CPU speed. I have heard mixed views on Kaspersky IS using a lot of resources and slowly a system down, but I have not run into that myself, granted my systems with it are custom builds with at least an i5 and 8Gb RAM.

But another thing to add is that this laptop is a coworker whom is not too knowledgeable when it comes to popups to allow a program through a firewall, or about any malware popups, so any popup heavy programs I am not looking to throw on here. He is just a standard web surfer and user of ebay and craigslist, so I am just looking to be sure he is good to go for a while.

Anyone's views on this are appreciated.

Answer:Question Kaspersky IS 2015 or BitDefender IS 2015 on a laptop?

ben using Kaspersky very long time on my different 'putters w/no problems, it uses lot of resources for protection (if its set up right) I'll keep it 4 ever. never had a virus get thru
(knock on wood)

Thank you @Secondmineboy! This may be just what I need, although I've not experienced the dreaded BSODs (yet) our Avast! has been behaving (..how can I describe it?) with an 'ultra-hardened' web site scanning manner that does not allow all connections. Happily, I'm able to log on here to MT!

Edit: I appreciated this thread because it reminded me, especially since I've been under the weather, that something was definitely wrong with our 8.1 system. This became noticeable after updating the program a few days ago. I'd experienced connectivity problems with sites such as Gmail & The Chrome Store (thankfully not MT) and most often when using Opera while somewhat less using Firefox, a notice from Avast! would alert the site's certificates were invalid, and Opera would advise trying again because of a problem with my VPN. The difference with this corrective update is Avast!'s VPN which I do not subscribe to is now gone! Ahhh, life's nearly back to normal.
Now, if I can only get over this virus... (It's one effecting my body, & not my computer system).

Hi all,

New beta version is released: AVAST 2015 R5 Beta 5 (build number 2015.10.4.2230) and AVAST 2015 R4 Beta 6 (build number 2015.10.4.2231).

Hi all,
it's Friday afternoon, I'm excited to inform you about AVAST 2015 Beta2 (build number 10.0.2200).
As you can see, the UI hasn't changed a lot, but internally we are delivering you a lot of new for this new major version of AVAST.

In AVAST 2015 Beta2, we are introducing two completely new features:

? AVAST NG
A hardware based virtualization solution capable of running each Windows process in standalone safe virtualized environment (VM) and fully integrated to your desktop. Each process is executed in its own instance of VM, which means totally isolated from your other applications. This project is going to replace current avast! DeepScreen, Sandbox and SafeZone components resulting in better scanning of unknown programs. NG is also great as isolated test space for testing new programs without influencing the main live system.

note: Avast! NG can be installed only on physical machine, does not work in VM. It requires HW virtualization enabled.

? GrimeFighter Free
GrimeFighter will offer free cleaning of junk files and tuning of system settings. These tasks are performed by our Zilch and Torque minions. Other minion functions remain as paid-for features.

Features introduced in AVAST 2015 beta1:

? HTTPS scanning
Now, we are able to detect and decrypt TLS/SSL protected traffic in our Web-content filtering component. We are using our own generated certificates that are added into the Root Certificate store in Windows and also into major browsers. ... Read more

My brand-new P50 laptop was behaving as though the left trackpad button was sticking. When single-tapping the left trackpad button, it would behave as though the "click n' drag" setting was enabled: the trackpad would override the keyboard, preventing me from typing until either the trackpad was moved again or the button was clicked again.  I work for Microsoft and have always used Lenovo products without ever having encountered an issue before, so I was more than a little surprised. I called Lenovo support, and they were less than helpful. In the end, they suggested that the trackpad itself was defective. The laptop was orvernighted to the repair depot in the southeast. Naturally, there was a three-week wait for parts - despite this being a model currently in production. Finally, after causing a stink (this is, after all, my primary work machine), a helpful support tech located parts at another facility. Another week later, and my laptop was back - with the SAME problem continuing to surface. This time I dug deeper, looking into the various trackpad settings, tweaking the various "accidental interrupt" delay settings, verifying that the "click to drag" feature was disabled, and running various diagnostics on the trackpad itself. The one interesting thing I noted was that the button-stickiness only seemed to happen in applications (IE, Word, etc.) - the button "stickiness" didn't happen when scrolling through Windows...
