Dell Inspiron 17 left alt key malfunction (multiple keys activated when pressing the left alt key)

Question: Dell Inspiron 17 left alt key malfunction (multiple keys activated when pressing the left alt key)

I own a Dell Inspiron 17 5767 laptop, and have encountered the a problem as shown in the image below:
When I press the left alt key on the laptop, it activates multiple keys, including the F4 key, and forces the windows that I've opened to close. This is not due to other keys being stuck, since I've tried the on-screen keyboard, on which the left alt key works perfectly. The right alt key works as it's supposed to.
I also tried the left alt key in safe mode, which still malfunctions as shown here.
Is this due to corrupted registry? Any suggestions?
Thanks!

Preferred Solution: Dell Inspiron 17 left alt key malfunction (multiple keys activated when pressing the left alt key)

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi leochi,
Thanks for posting. It doesn't sound like your registry is corrupted, but sounds more like your keyboard needs to be reset. Here is some information from another user http://www.thewindowsclub.com/reset-keyboard-settings-default-windows
If that's not working for you, then please run a systems diagnostics by pressing F12 at startup or by running Dell Support Assist. Make a note of any errors you encounter and contact Tech Support. You can contact Tech Support at 1-800-624-9896 or 1-800-288-4410, or you can initiate a chat session http://dell.to/2v4snVm

I got this new Dell Inspiron 7568 about a week ago. Since I got it the up and left keys have not worked together. They work individually but not together. This does is not isolated to my computer, the display computer at Best Buy also had this issue. This is a big problem because I need those keys in order to test my programs. I have looked in many places some say it is a problem with the bios other say with the drives and others say with the hardware.
I have already tried calling technical support and they could not do anything about it. This is not the first post regarding this problem: http://en.community.dell.com/support-forums/laptop/f/3518/t/19679981 (slightly different model). My last computer was also a Dell Inspiron but an older model and it did not have this problem.
I have been I loyal Dell costumer for a long time please help.

Hi all- I just got my T440s a few weeks ago and I love it. I just discovered a weird issue: both the alt keys and the space bar do not work when holding the up and left arrow keys simultaneously. I discovered this while playing a racing game. While holding up and left arrows, pressing either of the alt keys or the space bar produces no effect, and the laptop makes a "blip" noise. All other keys seem to work while holding up + left arrows, and holding up + right arrow doesn't change a thing. I looked at the Ease of Acces settings (I've got Win7 Pro 64) and turned off all Filter Keys, Sticky Keys, etc. I'm running the latest BIOS, if that's any help.  This is kind of annoying, so I'd appreciate any help. Thanks!

My Dell Inspirion 3148 (Intel i3) laptop's certain keys are not functioning, I have updated all the drivers now what can be done?

Answer:Dell Inspirion 3148 keyboard (left side keys like 1, Q, A, Z, Caps Lock) keys are not functioning)

I'm assuming you have windows 10 on the system.....
I'd suggest you check Sticky keys in control panel. You might have mistakenly turn it on.
At the left bottom of taskbar, right click windows icon, click on Control Panel, Ease Of Access, and then Change How Your Keyboard Works. If there's a check mark in box - Turn on Sticky keys) then uncheck it and click Apply.

I'm new to the forums.. but Recently my up and left keys will not work for some reason, I don't know why (no water damage or anything). But What really concerns me is that the up key is also my brightness up key. I turned my brightness all the way down on accident, now is there any way I could bring it back up?

Any help is much appreciated.

Hi Nurein615 and Welcome to the Windows7 Forum:
If the keys are simply not functional anymore, then I suggest you talk to Dell for support, and possible RMA if you are still under Warrantee. Maybe a Sensor problem.

I got a DELL Inspiron 7559 in July 2017. The rear left corner is already pulling a part at the seam. It doesn't seem to be the hinge, but it does pull further a part when opening and closing the screen.
I called DELL support. Even though the computer is only 5 months old, this problem isn't covered under warranty.
Online, it looks like several other 7559 buyers have experienced the exact same problem. It seems unethical of DELL to have a recurring manufacturing problem and refuse to repair it.
Any suggestions on options to get the split repaired without spending $140?

A couple days ago I noticed the sound coming out from  my laptop was horrible like a crackling sound coming from the speakers. I tried the diagnostic.. and it looks like the left speaker is not working and the right is doing that awful sound like a crackle or rattle sound. Using the bass makes it worse.  I used to have perfect stereo sound with nice bass  using Realtek Sound system configuration and Maxx waves.
what could have happened? could it be a hardware issue? I ran the test but that doesn't solve the problem.
Please help!!

Hello. If the diagnostic tool you used was the audio test in the ePSA daignostic, and you did not hear the test tones in the left speaker, then it has either failed or become disconnected. Connect tech support to schedule a repair.

Answer:dell 13 inspiron 13 7000 2 in 1 left speaker is not working

IAMRAMKING not working even after whole restorartion.
Hello. A speaker that doesn't work after restoring with the Factory Image is because of hardware failure, either a loose connection or dead speaker.
If you want to perform another test to make sure, run the audio test in the ePSA utility (or PSA on some models). These tests are in motherboard memory and do not depend on Winows or drivers -- in other words it is a purely hardware test, so if you don't hear the sounds during the test, it means hardware failure.

If the laptop is still under warranty, contact tech support to have it repaired.

my grandfather bought me a laptop and I'm planning to use it for online college. The charger was 45w and came with the laptop,  that charger ended up bending near the charge and I had to order a new one from a company that wasn't dell. Thr new charger is a baturu 65w and the laptop is charged because the blue light is full and not yellow/orange. Now when I hit the power,  five seconds later it blinks and turns off. There is noise but no startup. I try again and nothing. I followed things online and nothing. Is it the battery?
I couldn't get a new charger straight away when it had no charge but I made sure to leave at least 15+ left of battery

Got my new inspiron 7567 laptop yesterday and found out that i only heard sound through the left speaker everytime. Went through the audio test for left and right channel output on youtube and tried to windows test option in playback devices windows 10,still everytime even if the animation says it playing through left and right speakers separately i still get audio from the left speaker both times. Is there some setting i am missing out on or is it a hardware issue.please help

Answer:Audio playing through left speaker only on dell inspiron 7567 laptop

sandy5837Is there some setting i am missing out on or is it a hardware issue.
Hello. This is the audio hardware test for the laptop's internal audio hardware. It works differently from the other tests. If no sound is heard through the laptop's right speaker during that test, then the cause is hardware failure. If it passes, then it's software.
If it is software, then download and install a fresh copy of the audio driver. Get it from your model's support page, or I can give you a link. Installing a fresh copy will re-set the audio settings, which would fix it if the cause is mis-configuration of the settings.

I have a new Dell Inspiron 7000 (7579), purchased Feb 2017. Actually two of them. Same results on both laptops. When I use headphones, signals from both the right track and left track come out of both sides of the headphones. I have gone through every setting that I can find. Settings are set to stereo, and there are no enhancements on.
The tracks play out of the speakers as split tracks. The tracks play out of the HDMI port properly, as well as USB playback devices.
I have tried multiple sets of headphones. Identical tracks and headphones work properly on other older laptops and other equipment. (I am an audio engineer for a living).
Any help is appreciated.

My 6 month old Dell Inspiron 7559 has starting coming apart from around the left side hinge. The keyboard plate is being separated from the bottom chassis and can see inside. Dell support say its damage or wear and tear. Really!. The laptop has been at home and not moved beyond 5 feet for the last 6 months. There is NO damage and even a microscopic inspection will not reveal any damage. Wonder how UK support brushed me off even after sending photos and saying not covered by warranty. Had been a Dell customer for last 12 years and this is my 4th Dell and definitely the last one. Cannot stand a company like this

Hi, I am currently using Dell Inspiron 14 7460 (for about 2 weeks). Lately, I just saw the left palmrest (near the touchpad) is slightly opened (it is visible when I use my laptop in a well-lit environment). For more details and pictures, please refer to this link:

Are those conditions still considered as normal? And if they aren't, could I claim the warranty for that?

Dear all:

New to the forum.  Thanks in advance to anyone able to help.  I have two issues that seem to be related.  Today at some point I could not longer use my right or left click buttons on my laptop.  The touchpad still works in the sense that I can move my cursor and if I tap once on the touchpad (not the left/right buttons) then it will select a link.  There is no right-clicking capabilities on the touchpad itself.
I "attempted" to reinstall the driver.  Not sure if I was successful doing that, but seeing as how half of the touchpad functionality works, I'm not positive it's a driver issue.
After restarting my laptop I tried again to click on the left/right buttons and became frustrated and wanted to see if they were stuck, so I pressed down hard.  My laptop proceeded to shut off immediately.  Frustrated, I disassembled my laptop and checked out the touchpad sensor to see if I could spot something wrong.  Everything appeared to be in tact.  I reassembled and the laptop powered on, yeahh!!
I once again tried to press the buttons and nothing happening.  Again I pressed harder than normal and the laptop shut down.  I was going to disassemble it again however I got halfway before trying to power it on and the laptop powered on again.
My first issue is:  Why is my laptop suddenly shutting off when pressing hard on those buttons?
My second issue is:  How can I fix those button... Read more

Hello
My Inspirion 15 - 7000 Series 7559 is still under the 1 year normal warranty.

The plastic around the left hinge of the laptop seams to have given away and they computer starts to crack up and open when you want to move the screen to open or close it.

I have informed myself on the issue and it seams that Another 20 people have the SAME issue with this dell Inspiron 15 7000 7559 model:  The plastic around the hinge opens up!
Here is the Record of that forum :

It seams that dell made a sticky post saying hinges are not covered by the warranty. And that the issues is caused by physical damage. the computer is in mint condition and has been taken care  and of course never been drop.

Mr  DELL-Chris  a dell spoke person said on the previous Link I provided:
""
In our usability labs with volunteers, we noted that the wear and tear on the left hinge was in how users repeatedly incorrectly opened the lid on the right corner putting stress on the left hinge.
Correct = Raise the lid by grasping the center of the lid and opening
Incorrect = Raise the lid by grasping the right corner of the lid and opening which adds twisting torque to the left hinge.
The policy will remain. Hinges are considered a consumable and fall under the Dell Wear & Tear policy.""

I was always careful to open the computer with 2 hands from the center as indicated. I have a collection of laptops since an early teenage age and handle my ba... Read more

Hi bolvrek,
Thanks for posting.
Apologies that your system is not working as you expected.
Unfortunately it would be impossible to say that all of the systems you've noted in your post have the exact same issue as yours, as there are too many variables and environmental conditions to consider.  Each one would have to be evaluated individually, which is why Dell Tech Support advised you to send it in.  You will be asked prior to any repairs to authorize or cancel the repair prior to starting.
If you feel your situation requires escalating, you can always fill out an Unresolved Issues Form.  You will need your Service Request number.

I cannot left click my trackpad mouse while holding a key. This is a problem that occurs quite frequently in gaming. I am aware that this issue is present due to its need when typing in order to prevent clicking around on the page accidentally while typing, but I cannot find the option to toggle it off.

I am running Windows 8.1 on a Toshiba Satellite. The trackpad is a Synaptics ClickPad V0.0 on SMB port. I have entered the control panel and searched under Devices and Printers > Mouse > Device Settings > Settings and here there is no category for this issue. The categories mainly concern multiple finger actions such as zooming or triple finger clicking but under simply Clicking it only has options for multiple finger clicks and under Tapping only involves disabling the pad with the top left corner and dragging icons. I had an issue before where I could not use the mouse at all while pressing a key, but this was resolved by turning off the SmartSense palm sensor. Now the only issue is clicking while pressing a key and this issue is not resolved with any options under the SmartSense category. I do not know where else to look for solutions to this problem. It seems like it should be an easy toggle somewhere but I cannot find it.

If anyone could assist me in solving this issue it would be greatly appreciated.

First off, I'm not a computer savy guy. Here's my issue. As an example of my problem, when my son plays minecraft (Chrome browser), he tells me that when he is holding down a key on the keyboard to move his guy, the left-click on the touchpad won't respond. Only when he lets go of the key, the left-click then responds, which ruins his gaming experience since he can't "move and attack" at the same time. Btw, this also happens when he plugs in any external mouse too. This also happense whenever I try it on any website, etc, but is has never really been an issue for me, a non-gamer. I have tried this on other computers, and the left click on the mouse will respond when holding down a key.
Is There a simple fix for this in settings or something? I can't seem to find anything that will correct the problem, and have no idea why it's happening on this computer.
Using a Lenovo Y560 ideapad. Thanks in advance for the help!!

I recently discovered a difference in the volume; the left speaker of the laptop has been functioning normally while there seems to be very low to no sound coming from the right speaker.

Any suggestions?

Answer:Dell Inspiron 15 5559 Audio - Right Speaker has low volume while the left speaker functions normally

Hello. You didn't mention the headphone jack, so if you have not yet done so, plug in headphones and see if the balance is okay in them. If the headphones check out okay, then most probably it's a problem related to the speakers.
The test for speakers is the ePSA audio test. It is a hardware test, which means that if the test  tones are very low in the right speaker, but normal in the left speaker, then there is hardware failure somewhere, related to the right speaker.
If both speakers sound normal during the test, then the problem is in the software. Do the usual things like re-install the audio driver, check the balance levels in the Sound properties, try different audio sources, etc.
Re-installing the audio driver resets the settings to their default configurations, so if you do it then you don't have to bother with things like volumes and balance settings, because they will be okay.(Also if the balance is okay through headphones, then it should be okay through the speakers too.)
Here is how to do a simple driver re-install:
1.    Open the Device Manager.2.    Expand the "Sound, video & game controllers" category.3.    Right click on "Realtek High Definition Audio".4.    Click "uninstall".5.    Do not check the box to “delete the driver software for this device”. 6.    Restart the computer. Hello all. I have been reading many horror stories about the left hinges of Acer laptops always breaking and unfortunately, the exact same problem as happened to me. At first, a slight pop sound occasionally happened when normally closing or opening the laptop. Apparently this is a common Acer problem and I am so upset this is happening! I typically buy Acer laptops and I do not know what to do. Anyone with any advice? Thanks

So I have a Mcrosoft Mobile Mouse 3500 and I have noticed that sometimes it malfunctions. Basically, sometimes it's almost as if the left click is sticking and I wonder if it's the software of a faulty mouse. For example, sometimes I can hold the mose pointer over a window without clicking any buttons but it repeatedly opens and closes the windows very quickly almost as if i were rapidly hitting the left click. Has anyone else had this issue.?

Answer:Mobile Mouse 3500 left click seems to malfunction

Bad microswitch in the mouse. Had this problem recently with my G500, had to RMA it. Try it on another PC just to rule out software issues. If it is out of warranty you can try to open the mouse and clean the area surrounding the switch.

Hi, I've had this problem since I upgraded my laptop to Windows 10:

When I play a game, like Team Fortress 2, I use Z, Q, S and D to run.
However, when I press multiple buttons at once, like Z and D to run forward and to the right, the problem occurs (also when I'm not in-game). What happens is, when I stop pressing the Z button, it still acts as being pressed, meaning my character won't stop running (sometimes it even takes 7 seconds or more!). I tried updating the keyboard drivers, I tried reinstalling them, but neither worked.

this could possibly be a lack of ram issue - if the ram is fully utilised by the game it has not enough spare to read all key presses. Check the minimum requirement of the game against your installed amount.

Hey everyone, I have recently encountered a problem on my New Dell Inspiron 5559. I've noticed when I press the Left and Up Arrow Keys together, they do not work. I have tried this combination of keys in many different circumstances, on several applications, but they will not work as they are supposed to. These buttons will work individually, and any other two of the arrow keys work when pressed together.
I have also tried using an alternative keyboard to see if the problem remained, however a different keyboard didn’t have this issue in any of the same tests, therefore the problem lies within the Inspiron Keyboard.
I’ve tried dusting the Keyboard, updating, uninstalling and reinstalling the Keyboard Driver but to no avail. I have taken extremely good care of my Laptop since receiving it and have done nothing to cause this issue.
Can somebody please be so kind as to help me with this problem? As this combination of keys is crucial to lots of Games and other Software which I use on a daily basis. Please could you tell me how this can be fixed? Because at the moment, the keyboard is not functioning as it is intended, and is causing major problems.

Answer:Up and Left Keys not working together

Problem still here, anybody else have this issue or know a solution?

Try cleaning the whole touchpad, perhaps it may require recalibration. I previously had issues with the touchpad and removed the additional drivers that came with it

I got a T60 with a 14" screen.  I bought this used so I can't verify how long this laptop has been doing this.  Laptop works fine plugged in and will get a full charge, when working only on battery it will seem to work fine for like 30-45 minutes, and it will say there is about 2 hours left or so and then it will suddenly stop working, light up the battery icon yellow and say battery has reached critical stage and you need to charge battery or plug laptop in to continue.   The power of the battery will go from like 90% to 5% after this error.   Battery says it only has 36 cycles, so it appears not to be that old but doesn't seem to work right.  I assume I need a new battery, but any advice or guidance on this matter would help.    Thanks

Answer:Battery says 2 hours left, then will say reached critical point and will have almost no power left

Couple of your battery cells have died, have you checked that it is under recall? http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?lndocid=BATT-082009 have a look at the link above.

Very frustrated with this...I opened the laptop gently as I would always do  and the hinge on the left side of the laptop just snapped and popped out of the plastic monitor frame.  The design of the hinges are just terrible and i can now see how they work because the case has been damaged just from opening and closing the laptop.  I can now see inside the whole left side of the case.  To top it off I have already invested considerable time into upgrading the OS to Windows 10 and customizing and installing software on this laptop. I cannot close my laptop entirely since the screen closes on an incorrect angle. Since I am out of warranty, is there any way to fix this problem? After reading several posts, it seems to be a common problem with the envy models.

Hello,

I have a strange problem. I recently had to move my graphics card from one slot to another on my motherboard. When I did so, my desktop appeared to be shifted over to the left and that the left most part of the desktop would not display. I tried to use my TV controls to shift the display horizontally and when I did I encountered two issues- 1) the display would not adjust flush with the right side of the screen (would not reach it leaving a slim black bar) and 2) it looked like someone sliced off the left most part of my desktop (the part missing was a width so that about half the start/ windows button was missing).

I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling CCC (latest update/drivers) for my ATI Raedon HD 46xx series card with no luck (Doing a registry sweep between to be thorough). I also have updated everything else windows with no luck.

My desktop is fine @50hz by the way, but 60hz is problematic.

And here is the whammy!

I took a screenshot of my desktop to send to a friend so he could see the left part cut off by a black bar and when I pasted it, the whole screen is there in the pic!!

So I assume this means that windows thinks it is displaying the screen but it is not making it to my TV?

I would have given up on this, however, it was working before so I know that it is possible.

Any help with this issue would be appreciated as I am starting to pull my hair out over here! :-)
Thanks in advance!

Daikon

Answer:Desktop shifted left and cutoff on left side Win7 64bit Raedon HD 46xx

Hum I had a similar thing happen with my monitor I just could not get it to the edges and someone advised me to use the scaling in the CCC and it worked so give it go.

Personally I got so fed up with the ATi stuff and went NVidia best thing I ever did.

There's this annoying white noise on my left speakers(Logitech X-540 Speakerset), though I think it's not my speakers that are causing it, but something else, because when I connect my iPod to my speakers there's no white noise.

So I was wondering if anyone could tell me how to get rid of this noise

Answer:White noise on left speakers/left side of headphone

Sounds like either a driver malfunction or more likely a failing sound card. Most of the stuff below (Windows & Programs) wouldn't likely be causing problems. I'd be willing to bet it's a hardware problem (due to it only being one side).

Figure Out What's FailingIf you're using a secondary sound card
*** i.e. you have a second built in one on your motherboard, enable that.
If you still hear the sound on a different card, then it's something within Windows and not a problem w/ hardware.
If you don't hear the sound, then it's something w/ drivers or your hardware.
If you don't have an extra sound card, see if you can find/buy one Replace DriversDownload & Install a Program like Guru's Driver Sweeper
Uninstall your sound drivers w/ Driver Sweeper
Reboot
Download and install the latest drivers for your sound card.
RebootIf the sound is still there and you couldn't test a secondary card you're likely dealing with either a hardware failure (most likely with sound only happening in one speaker) or something in Windows failing.

Repair WindowsIf you want to try to fix windows, you can do the following:
Run an elevated Command Prompt and run this command:
sfc /scannow
Peform a system restore
Perform a repair install.Test to see if a program is causing the problemType msconfig into start menu search and hit Enter
Go to the startup tab and disable everything.
Restart computer
Do you still hear the sound?
Yes -- Not a program
No -- A program is likely causing the problem. If no... Read more

I have a strange problem that just started today. I have Win 7 Home Premium 64bit and a Saitek Cyborg Keyboard V7 (KU-0728). When using the left shift key to press the 9 key to get a left parentheses [(] I get nothing. The left shift key works for all other keys and I can access [(] by using the right shift key. I'm leaning towards not a hardware issue due to the fact that the left shift works on other keys and the 9 key works with the right shift key. Could it be a driver issue? I've done some searching but can't relly find anything on this issue. Seems kind of wierd that the left shift would not work with only one key. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank You in advance,

Hello:

I initially posted this problem on the Hardware forum, but nobody came forward. Accordingly I am hoping someone with a software background might be able offer me solution.

The problem is that my right and left arrow keys are not working properly. After a lot of tapping, they eventually do respond. However, they are no so unreliable I have to use the mouse to move my cursor anywhere. Response seems to be very intermittent.

None of the other keys on the keybard are affected. The up/down keys are working fine, as are the backspace and delete keys. I did try blasting compressed air under them, but that didn't work at all.

My machine is an MDG VisionBook, and the op system is XP.

As I say, if someone knows what the problem is here, I sure would appreciate a response. In my 25 years of computering, I have never encountered a problem like this! it is very annoying not to be able to use the left/right arrow keys, believe me!

Thank you,
Robert

Answer:System seems clean, but some keys left ...

Hi, Well, that log doesn't seem to show much...

a Hijackthis log might show something: can you post one, if you dont have that yet....just post and I will give a link and directions.

Your shortcut may not be right, let's make a new one

Open Windows Explorer, and on the left, click on the + sign next to My Computer, then C:, then Program Files, then highlight by one click "Internet Explorer", then, on the right side window, find iexplore.exe and right-click it, select "Create shortcut" and respond to make a shortcut on your desktop...try that to start the program.
Yes, double clicking iexplore.exe should start Internet Explorer also.... you can drag the new shortcut, if that is what was wrong, down to the Quick Launch bar and also to the Startup menu to have it available on the Start button.
Delete the old shortcuts if they were corrupt...

Malware does this and worse- have you been scanning online for trojans etc?
I havent seen another thread by you...you should be responding to that, if someone was helping you there recently.

Post a log from Hijackthis:

So I asked one of the shop executive and he told it's okay but I didnt believe it. But I think the only thing you should care of is not applying much force on it. Could be true.Regards

Hello! For about two days now, certain keys on my keyboard have suddenly been behaving erratically, on and off. They are the 't', 'y', left ctrl and tab keys. Sometimes they do not work at all and other times they register 2-5 presses instead of 1. It has been infuriating to even type these three sentences! In fact, it is the exact problem outlined here, by another user, with the exact same keys:  http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Hardware-e-g-Windows-8/Keys-not-working/td-p/2534251 I have tried the disconnecting battery and adapter + holding power button trick, as well as uninstalling and reinstalling the latest keyboard drivers. The keys do not work as expected in the command prompt either. Any help would be appreciated! Thanks  Edit: My laptop is a HP pavilion g6 by the way, using Windows 7. T and Y seem to be common keys that are unreliable with HP laptops but I cannot find a solution online.

The left and right arrow keys on my VisionBook MDG laptop (XP operating system) are no longer working properly. After tapping multitudinous times they will start working again. But the problem has become so bad I now use the mouse to move my cursor, even it only needs to be moved a few spaces. For some reason the machine is not immediately recognizing input from these keys. The problem is intermittent: sometimes they work just fine.

I first suspected dirt under the keys, and shot compressed air under them. But this had no effect whatsoever.

The problem does not exist in the up/down keys, nor in the backspace or delete keys, nor any other keys on the keyboard.

The machine is only a year or so old, so if the hardware is breaking down or corrosion is an issue, I would be very surprised.

I sure would appreciate it if anyone could offer me a solution to this problem.

Thank you,
Robert

Hi, my tecra M1 up, left and right arrow keys do not work on the standard keyboard - no external keyboard. I cannot find a keyboard tester to see if the computer recognises these keys. Only the down key works - no problems with others like PgUp or PgDn etc, etc. Any suggestions?

Mike Mori

Answer:Tecra M1: left and right arrow keys do not work

Hi Mike

When you start your notebook at the beginning you can see drive symbols at the bottom side of display. If one drive is chosen under the symbol you will see short line. When those symbols are shown press immediately left or right arrow key few times to see if the line will be mowed to left or right. On this way you can try to check if those buttons are recognized from the beginning.

Please inform me about results.

Hi...Left and Up Arrow keys are not working in my Lenovo G580 Laptop. Could guys advice me on this how to resolve the issue. Tks, Dillip

Answer:LEFT & UP Arrow Keys Not working for G580

Welcome to the Lenovo Community !

A couple of things to try......

Try using a USB keyboard if you have one available to see if those keys work on the USB keyboard.

Secondly, try uninstalling the keyboard / mouse / touchpad driver, reboot the computer and then install a fresh copy of the driver.  The link below is for the available drivers for your model.  Prior to doing the driver uninstall I would check Windows Device Manager to see if your model has the Elan or Synaptics touch pad.

The link below is for the available drivers from Lenovo for your model. Just select your operating system in the top box for the correct driver listing.......

http://support.lenovo.com/us/en/products/laptops-and-netbooks/lenovo-g-series-laptops/lenovo-g580-no...

If those keys work on a USB keyboard and the driver reinstall didn't help then I would suspect your keyboard is bad especially if you frequently use those keys in your work or for gaming.  I would suggest you contact Lenovo Support for service especially if your laptop is still under warranty.  You can find the phone number for Lenovo Support in your country or area by using the link below....http://support.lenovo.com/us/en/supportphonelist_alt1

This is my first post so I hope someone can help me out. I had to open my laptop because my power connector moved inside my laptop so I was unable to charge the machine.

I opened up the case very carefully and repositioned the power socket. When I put the machine back together neither right or left buttons or the touchpad would work. I never even touched anything around the touchpad.

I just lifted the top right hand corner of the case so that I could slot the power connecter back into position.

Any help would really be appreciated.
I tried FN & F9 to see if that would unlock the touchpad. I also tried taking the battery out and pressing the on button for 30 seconds, neither of these worked (I read this in other forums).

Answer:Touchpad and right & left keys not working on Satellite 350D-12M

Hi

>I opened up the case very carefully and repositioned the power socket. When I put the machine back together neither right or left buttons or the touchpad would work. I never even touched anything around the touchpad.

I assume the touchpad has worked properly before you have opened and disassembled the notebook.
Is it right?

Well, I don?t know why the touchpad buttons don?t work but in my opinion you damaged/disconnected something during the disassemble procedure and therefore the buttons are not working now.

I would not recommend disassembling this notebook again because as you see many different parts can be damage or affected and therefore I recommend contacting an notebook technician who could check this and could solve your touchpad button problem.

Regards & Good luck

Hello, this is my first time posting so a little background info. I consider myself at a intermediate to advanced level with computers and usually figure out solutions myself but i am lost with this one, i have done a search and am not finding anything really pertaining to my problem. Yesterday my boss was using hotmail to view some pictures sent to him from a trusted friend. hotmail uses trend micro for thier scan so we assumed that they were safe. upon opening the third picture something happened and things changed. The left mouse button no longer works so i changed teh mouse configuration in the control panel to left handed and i am able to use the mouse for the most part, the enter keys dont work upon startup but after opening the taskmanager using keyboard navigation they work again, all of the links and text under the desktop icons are now underlined and a few other odd things. MY virus software did not pick up anything major so installed spybot search and destroy and another program that detected and removed a few trojans, adware, cookies and such but the problem is till there. I am comfortable editing the registry so any and all help with this would be greatly appreciated. Below is the log from hijack this.

My microphone is a "Cyber Acoustics" headset and it uses the light pink / light green jack inputs which I think is called "1/8" or "3.5mm" not sure? Here's a low resolution photo:

the speakers on the headset are backwards. When i go to this website and scroll over "Left" I hear the word "Left" coming out of the right side of the headset.

What I'd like to know is is there any way to reverse this and fix it?

Answer:[SOLVED] Switching the Speakers From Left to Right / Right to left

You can't move the boom to the other side and put the headset on in reverse to what you have now?

Unless under control panel/sound you have the ability to reverse the speakers there isn't anything in windows to correct this.

Hello Lenovo Community, I recieved my Flex 2-14 about 2 weeks ago. Right after I took it out and began using it I noticed the keyboard was really "flexing" when typing, especially in the middle and left side. Also, when typing, sometimes the keys won't register which causes letters to be missing in words. In almost every sentence I type there are letters always missing. I noticed that I have to press in the exact center of keys or else they will not register. Even if I press a key all the way down on the sides, nothing happens. This is a really disappointing keyboard from Lenovo, definitely the worst I've used. Is anyone else experiencing either of these issues? What can I do to get this fixed? Thank you.

Recently, the left hinge has started creaking when I open the lid.  This makes me think the hinge is binding and may lead to a physical problem with the hinge/case, which Dell does not seem to stand behind.
I do not know if these hinges are lubricated during manufacture but does anyone have any suggestions if a lubricant might help and if so, what type of lubricant should be used?
Thanks...

Answer:acer aspire 4810T 2 LEFT HAND SIDE KEYS DO WORK ...

jayvee,

As long as nothing was spilled or the unit was dropped that would typically mean that the keyboard itself could be defective, the keyboard ribbon could be loose, or the motherboard could be defective. Depending on your level of expertise, you can check the ribbon cable to make sure it did not come loose from the motherboard, otherwise you might have to take the system to a local technician and see about getting some assistance.

Hello:

The left hand special keys doesn?t work. I mean, the keys under the power on button that usually starts the web navigator and works with the DVD.

Another question. The Value Added Package that was installed on my notebook had a utility call Toshiba Fash Cards. When I upgrade to the last version (previosly I had to uninstall it) of that SW it's not installed. How can I get it back?

Thanks in advance.

Answer:Satellite A100 - questions about left hand keys and Value Added Package

Hello

Value Added Package contains several applications:
- Toshiba Components Common Driver
- Toshiba Utilities
- Toshiba PC Diagnostic Tool
- Toshiba Power Saver
- Toshiba Button Support
- Toshiba Zooming Utility
- Toshiba Flash cards

So as you can see the button support is included in this package. I don't know what is wrong on your notebook but when the VAP is installed properly the multimedia buttons and Flash cards should work properly.

Try please again to remove VAP from the system, restart the notebook and install latest offered version. This latest version works well on different notebook models (on my Satellite P200D too) and it must work on your too.

On my Thinkpad Yoga S1, the keys t, y, backspace, enter, caplock, and left shift are suddenly not working. This seems to be a common problem on lenovo computers, but the lenovo forum administrator closed the only thread that attempted to address this without any solution. The lenovo admin said that too many diferent models were involved. I don't understand why these exact specific keys are affected on so many Lenovo models. Lenovo has no solution, and will not support a thread to work towards one. The Microsoft store already replaced my keyboard under warrenty over a year ago, but the YTP S1 is now out of warrenty. This does not seem to be a hardware problem given the relatively recent Keyboard replacement. Does anyone have any suggestions? I wont buy another Lenovo if this problem cant be solved. I've had tremndous problems with this computer and have found Lenovo to be unhelpful/unresponsive. This was an expensive computer when it was purchased.

My laptop stopped booting this morning, and when I tried to boot it in safe mode, it worked - once. After that it wouldn't boot again. Safe mode, diagnostic mode, nothing.

Symptoms - the Windows splash screen appears, then it goes black and the hard drive light is lit, but nothing happens. When I pull the power plug, it shuts down as if there is no battery, or the battery is dead. I should mention that when I got up there was the blue screen with the memory dump message on it - that's when I couldn't boot.

Finally, while playing with different safe modes to boot, I saw a message that said something to the effect that the processor fan is inoperative or not functioning. And I am thinking that maybe something has overheated.

Obviously I need to have the fan looked at, but because I am here in South America, and Spanish is not my first language, I'd like to have a clue what to say to the guys when I find a decent pc repair place. So - are my symptoms consistent with fan failure? Would more bad stuff have happened internally before this took place - in other words, not worth fixing the fan? Any ideas on how to tell?

I could try to get more specs from the Dell site, since I can't obviously check the system...if it would help.

Any assitance would be appreciated!

I suggest reinstalling windows, but you'd lose all your data!
Also, one of your memory sticks may be fried, try taking one or the other out by popping out the rear plate on the laptop and BEING CAREFUL remove one or the other sticks

First off, let me say that I read through and did everything in the post about what to do before posting a HJT log...My problem started about 3 days ago when I noticed that my PC was lagging on startup. There was a 10 second lag between the XP progress bar screen and the login screen. Also, my system itself was running slow. It was so slow that I couldn't even do much at times - spybot, adaware and ewido took forever but found nothing. System Mechanic found some adware, but it removed it easily. After all that, it was still having the same 2 problems although the lagging had decreased. I decided to re-image my system in order to eliminate whatever problem I was having. Everything was fine, but then it started acting up again after an hour or so.I currently have: Spybot: Search & Destroy, Spyware Doctor, AdAware SE, ewidio, XoftSpySE, Spyware Blaster and System Mechanic 6. After the re-image didn't really work, I started to do massive Spyware scans. I have run all of these programs over and over again, in safe mode and regular mode. I have been through numerous restarts and I still haven't gotten rid of everything. One program will say that there are no problems, but then another will find something. After cleaning, I reboot only to find that another spyware has surfaced. Most of them are being found by Spython (part of System Mechanic), but AdAware and SpyBot have found some as well. Some of the things I am encountering are: 2Search, Elitebar, Look2Me, Trojan.Installer, p... Read more

Answer:Multiple Problems, Most Fixed... Still Some Left

Hi workah0lic, welcome to BC and sorry for the delay.I don't see any signs of infection in your log, just some clutter that can be fixed but that I doubt will solve your issues. The WinPup32 issue is apparently a false posiitive of System Mechanic's Spython. Please see this info: http://www.wilderssecurity.com/showthread.php?t=140120Since you have ewido installed, apparently Spython thinks part of it is malware. In my opinion, System Mechanic is over-rated and Spython is not yet to be trusted. I trialed SM a few years ago, before Spython was part of the package. They have some nice tools, but I didn't trust their registry cleaner and don't trust reg cleaners overall. Spython is still relatively new. When it comes to malware removal, it is generally better to stick to programs that are tried and true. The problem with such all in one toolbox programs like SM is that they dilute their attention--I prefer programs that do one thing and do it well. What I would suggest to you is that you not use Spython and contact SM to let them know of the false positive. They won't be able to develope the program into a good one without knowing of the problem. Stick to one anitivrus, one Firewall and no more than three good antispyware programs. You should be in good shape with Spybot, Ad-Aware and SpywareDoctor (and if SpywareDoctor is a trial, I suggest you uninstall it). Ewido is more of an anti-trojan and is very trustworthy and works very well after the trial expires. As to the lag... Read more

The left side hinge on my touch enables Inspiron 15 (5558) is broken.  When I opened the device on my desk, it made a cracking sound and the case-lid seemed to seperate from the screen assembly. According to the tag on the bottom, it's under warranty until December 20th this year.  How do I go about getting this repaired?  I can not move the screen at this point.  I have it in an open position, but if I'm very gentle and use many hands, I could get it closed.  Any help would be appreciated.

Hi all, I also have the problem of having some keys on the keyboard that are not functioning any more (for example Backspace, t, left Shift, ...).  Computer is a Lenovo 3000 N100 notebook and roughly 1.5 years old. Now I am not sure whether a change of the keyboard will solve the issue or whether the problem is caused by something on the mainboard. My question is: Has anyone experience in this issue and has a clue about the root cause? It seems that I am not alone with this problem. I don't want to invest in a keyboard if the root cause is something else. I already disassembled and assembled the keyboard to check the mechanical connection between the keyboard and the mainboard. Effect: none. Thank you for your advice. Axel

Hi,
I've seen quite a few other posts that have the same problem but pressing F7 /+ F4 and/or Scroll Lock (with Fn also) doesn't solve the problem for me.

I know my arrow keys work because when I press Fn + the Arrow Keys OR Win + Arrow keys I do get the desired result (volume/brightness control and splitting my screen). However, I just cannot move from one cell to another on Excel and I cannot move my cursor left and right while typing. Neither do webpages scroll anymore.

All was working until an hour ago and it just randomly stopped working.

Any help is appreciated.

TIA

I want to make it so that I can see the size of multiple files that are selected in the details menu on the left of the window rather than by right clicking and hitting properties.

Is there any way to do this?

It shows me the size of individual files, but not say... 5 of them selected together.

Answer:Multiple Files? Details in the lower left...

I am too facing the same issue of the hinge on my inspiron 5547 when i checked with the dell team they say  its not covered under my warranty.
When i further analysed the issue the problem is as follows
1. The hinges are strong made of steel  but the base which fixes them to the front panel are plastics.
2.The nuts are moulded into plastic and fixed with screws which makes them break after our normal day to day usage.
3.I assume this has been overseen in the design review .
Can any one please advise how you got this fixed ?

Just did a downgrade with a 3000 n200- 0769 and the F1, left ctrl, tilde, pgdn, and rt arrow keys are not responding. It looks like  xp is recognizing the keyboard as a standard 101/102 key usb/ps2 keyboard instead of the notebook keyboard it is. Is there such thing as a keyboard driver for this keyboard? All drivers on the support page, including the bios upgrade have been installed. Everything appears to be running fine - i just can't use my left hand to cut, copy, and paste! Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

I know this issue has been reported in other network blogs but no one ever seems to have an answer except onefellow who states he found a driver on the support.lenovo.com site but his link doesn't work!  Simply put, underWindows 7/64-bit (and booting DOS which I tried too), the left and right shift keys on my Lenovo Ideapad Y510produce odd characters like {}'s and |'s when pressed.  Yes I have actually replaced the keyboard, both old and newproduce this issue.  This seems like a BIOS issue somehow, smart keyboard.  I inherited this unit from one of ourusers, I know it originally ran a pre-installed Vist 32bit installation but had WIn7 when I got it.  I have reinstalledWindows 7 and obtained  compatible card reader and ACPI drivers and added the ATK hot keys drivers before and after I had this issue (that I recall).  Is this a special BIOS behaviour for the shift keys that there is a special Windows keyboard driver to handle? The unit is running the latest BIOS from the support website (I re-burned it just in case). The system works perfectly in every other way, would be ashame to toss it just over this one issue. Thanks.

Answer:Keyboard malfunction on Dell Inspiron 4000

Your problem sounds pretty similar to this one also on a DELL notebook HERE so following ASUS's post their this is the removal instructions to your DELL, the problem could be either a loose connection or a failing keyboard in which a new one would be needed.

Hi,
I bought a new Dell Inspiron 5559 i7 6th gen Laptop on 1st November, I faced the distorting and crackling issue in the beginning but i checked the solutions here and switched the realtek driver to the windows default driver and it was working well until today. I have tested my dell speakers on various test videos available online and the general speaker configure option of windows, laptops right speaker is working good but left produces a crackling noise at high pitch sound. Please tell me what should i do? I have done multiple reinstalls of the driver but nothing worked. I have decided that its a hardware fault, just trying my luck here.
Regards
Viren Kumar Gupta

Answer:Inspiron 15 5559 i7 6th gen, left speaker sound crackling on high levels

Hi virengupta13,Thanks for posting. If the noise is only coming through one of the speakers and it is not there when you listen through headphones, then the speaker probably needs to be replaced. If you are still under warranty you can contact Tech Support, but before you do remove all media players except Windows Media Player, or else you will be denied warranty service.

First a profile picture with user name, followed by key icons with the word password behind it.
Both options lead to the same account.
Simular to this picture:

Does anyone have a solution for this weird behaviour?
How to remove these key icons, with password behind it.
Many thanks in advance
