Security (kensington) slot for THINKPAD X1 CARBON (5TH GEN) or THINKPAD X1 YOGA (2ND GEN)?

Question: Security (kensington) slot for THINKPAD X1 CARBON (5TH GEN) or THINKPAD X1 YOGA (2ND GEN)?

Hello, I am looking for a laptop which can be securely attached/locked (so that I can let it during the night in the office). Could you please tell me if the following laptops have a security slot (Kensington or similar) to attach it somewhere?THINKPAD X1 CARBON (5TH GEN)THINKPAD X1 YOGA (2ND GEN) I do not find it described in the specifications, but from the available pictures, it seems that they have some kind of security slot. Thanks!

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I posted a similar question earlier and people referred me to the Yoga (much appreciated).  However, I was interested in the 2.6 lb carbon version with touch screen capabilities.  Asus has a Spin 7 model that is very good at 2.65lb, but I miss the red mouse toggle in the middle of the keyboard and Asus's track pad was designed too large....causing unintended tapping.  The Yoga, while nice, is heavier than I was looking for.  The 14 inch screen is about 3.3lb? the 12 inch at 3? I thought that some of the earlier Thinkpad Carbons had touch screen and was hoping they would make a return soon.  Thanks,

Hi all,Does anyone know if the M.2 PCIe slot in the new 3rd generation X1 Carbon is a full M.2 PCIe slot, or is it USB-only?  This slot is ordinarily used for the Sierra WWAN module (which is a USB device), but I would really like to put an SSD in its place.Thanks-frank

Hi, Is it possible to add an SO-DIMM slot from factory if you request it when you make the order for this laptop ?Because I saw that the maximum memory available will be only 16GB of RAM soldered to the main board and I will like to add another 16GB RAM if it is possible.I saw that all of the processors available for this laptop can handle 32GB of RAM. Thank you !

Hi, I've got a Thinkpad Yoga with the built in 128gb SSD, and have been thinking about upgrading the storage. As it came with the 128gb SSD from the factory, I'm assuming the M2 slot will be free... Does anyone know what the specifications of the M2 slot are, or if it is usable for a non-caching drive? I'd love to put in a 512gb M2 SSD for my additional storage needs - it would just complete what I see as an otherwise perfect device. Obviously if this is not possible, I will simply replace and clone the existing SSD, but if I can avoid that it'd be ideal. Thanks!

I have a ThinkPad Yoga 14 with a EM7455 WWAN broadband card in the M.2 slot.  I can not for sure locate the SIM card slot so I can put in broadband provider sim (like one from T-Mobile or AT&T).  Documentation shows it on the back opposite the fans with a pin hole to pop out a SIM tray.  There is no slot on back of the case. I took the cover off the botton of the Yoga 14, which is where the M.2 slot is located.  At the back about where there should be a SIM card tray, there is a 8 contact SIM socket labeled SIM1 on the motherboard.  I am assuming this the cellular SIM card socket, but it will not take a micro-sim card.  It is to loose to hold it.  It looks like it needs a sim tray.Anyone have any experience with a ThinkPad Yoga 14 sim card or have a suggestion?  Photos of motherboard and sim slot below.    Thank you, Gerry          ??                                                                                          &... Hi all, I've just taken ownership of the ThinkPad Yoga 370 and suspect that the Micro SD slot is faulty.  Basically, the card gets sticker into the slot once pushed in and it'll take a long time to slowly pull out the card from the slot. Also, the notebook doesn't detect the card when it's in.  Im pretty sure I got the right side of the card into the slot.  Can anyone confirm if the slot is suppose to eject the card with a "spring" motion? Cause I don't have that, that's why it's sticker.

I just bought a Thinkpad Yoga 14 and a Kensington lock (that is a suggested security accessory by most official Lenovo resellers for this model !!). The problem is that I can't find a slot to plug the Kensington lock. Is there something that I am missing?I hope that Lenovo is not offering a series of 'professional' laptops without one of the most needed features for professionals that have to work with sensitive data on clients' sites and uncontrolled environments!

I was hoping for a way to lock the laptop, but I guess a metal safe is the best option.

Over the past several years there are many posts of users experiencing variations on this problem with X1 Carbon and X1 Yoga of various generations, including the latest ones (I provide a list below). That is, the systems often cannot come out of sleep mode in some way, shape, or form. I had this problem on my own brand-new X1 Carbon 5th Generation, right out of the box. In my instance, I noticed this issue in the following two scenarios: -After having gone in to sleep mode, once I opened the lid, or press power button once:power light goes from blinking to solid onscreen stays blank/blackseems that if the machine is going to be in the frozen state, keyboard presses do not "unsleep" it (which they normally would). Closing the lid causes the power light to go to solid on, but then opening it again does nothing.in a couple of rarer instances, the machine actually did come out of sleep but then instantly the screen froze (but this was quite uncommon, mostly it just wouldn't come out of sleep at all)-After passing the initial boot screen of Lenovo, the next part shows the Lenovo logo but without the swirling dots and is frozen (the power light would show on)Under both conditions: The power light is solid onThe keyboard lights functionality works: backlighting, FnLock light, mute lightSometimes you can hear the fan workingPlugging in to external display does not display anything on itThe only way to rectify is to do a hard shutdown by holding the power key With... Hi,

I thought using a Kensington Lock with my Helix would be an easy task.
Until now I used four different Kensington Locks, but I was able to unlock the display of the Helix with any of these.

The procedure:
1. Pull out the "stick"

Link to picture

2. Lock with Kensington Lock

Link to picture

3. Push the stick with the attached lock back into the slot as far as possible

Link to picture

4. Push the button to unlock the Helix's locking mechanism

Link to picture

5. Detach the display (while the Kensington Lock is still attached to the keyboard)

Link to picture

I don't know if I am too stupid to use a Kensington Lock properly, but I think this is not the way it is supposed to work :-/

I used the following Kensington Locks:
Kensington Microsaver Keyed Ultra - K67723US
FUJITSU Microsaver DS Keyed Lock
Kensington Microsaver DS Cable Lock - 0B47388 (compatible with my Helix - via Lenovo QuickPick)
some unknown Kensington Lock

I contacted the support hotline, they said they could not help me and that they are not responsible ...
I talked with the staff of a local Lenovo reseller, they could not help me either, but I was able to replicate the same issue with their Helix.

My question is:
Does anybody use a Kensington Lock with their Helix and if so could you please tell me which lock you are using and if you are doing anything different from me

Best regards,
PIP3

I'm going to ask my money back, These slots are not cheap at all. Maybe I can blame it to the Helix and not the lock. Then I have a 3 year on site guarantee and let them come over. I have recently bought a Thinkpad Yoga 460 with Thinkpad Pen Pro. I leave it in the laptop slot for charging for more than a day and it gives me only a few minutes of usage. As per the user guide, it should be 80% charge in 15 seconds and 100% after 5 minutes. But it runs out of charge very soon. It shows me the low battery level indicator as soon as I use it on the screen. First day of usage (appox 4 days ago) it gave me about 30 - 45 minutes of continuous. But after that not more than 5 minutes. Please let me know if this is an issue with the Pen or Laptop charging port. Is there any way I can troubleshoot it?Please also let me know the average usage time for the pen, if you are continuously using it.

Hi
Welcome to the forums.

I do not have that kind of pen, but I think is the one that has some "bronce contacts" at the top of the pen. I had read some other post about it, just in case check that "contacts" to make sure they are touching with the charger when you put the pen into it's holder. Sometimes the contacts may move.

Hi chiakri.

I have a TPY 14 (20DM008UUS) and I'm happy with this model. I didn't not compare it to the TPY 12, but mine is working fine and have no issues. It didn't came with a pen, but it supports "Active pen", so I bought a Thinkpad Pen Pro and it worked fine.

I prefer to stick with the 14" screen but that is more about personal prefence. Maybe if you like to use it very much on tablet mode with a pen, possible the 12" will be more confortable to hold as a book.. but I'm just guessing.

I am hhaving difficulty finding an acceptable scaling mix between resolution, system scaling, and edge scaling. At 1080p, 125%, 125%, os navigation is mostly fine, but edge text is way too large. At 1080p, 125%, 100%, edge text is way too small. At all combinations text is inflated (but crisp) in certain elements while fuzzy in others. What scaling combinations work best for you? I am considering returning this to Best Buy and upgrading to a Pro 4 / Book, or even a Mac. The scaling is ruining an otherwise great experience.

(First of all sorry for my english. Hope you understand me)  I'm looking for a slot-in DVD drive for my Thinkpad T61. I live in Hungary and I've found only two affordable options. Get a Samsung slim slot-in drive or a MacBook's SuperDrive (maybe Panasonic or LG). I still have my guarantee so if I buy one of them; can the service "fit in" to my Thinkpad? I mean, I have to buy a special "only for Thinkpad" DVD drive or one of these also good?

Answer:Slot-in DVD for Thinkpad T61

Well there are over 500 different slim-line and super-slimline DVD drives on the market, some of them with special firmware versions and some of those drives are build as slot-in drive versions. Even most of the sizes (12,7x129x128 mm) and connectors (JAE 50 pin) are to 98% equal, there still some differences and things to take into account. The overall problem with a slot-in DVD drive will be to find a suitable front-panel for a Thinkpad T61: http://www.notebookreview.com/picture.asp?f=22775  As you can see, beside maybe some possible firmware version conflicts, the main common problem for you with a Thinkpad T61 will be, to find a suitable front-panel for a third-party slot-in slim-line drive here! - BTW, I have a Samsung slim-line slot-in drive, which I use as a secondary external USB/Firewire drive when I travel. The front-panel which is supplied with the Samsung slot-in drive will not adhoc fit for a Thinkpad T61!

Hi and welcome, kushtrimYour laptop is "WWAN ready" only, i.e.has the SIM card holder, the SIM card reader and WWAN antennas installed. I have started using the ThinkPad X1 Carbon Gen 2 as my main work laptop this week, and have officially retired my ThinkPad X1 Carbon Gen 1 for backup purpose. So far this is what i feel are the major positives of the ThinkPad X1 Carbon Gen 2 vs Gen 1.

Positives:

-Better TrackPad
The quality of the Thinkpad X1 Carbon Gen 1 trackpad is a definitively a plus compared to the old ThinkPad X1 Carbon Gen 2. The surface finish of the ThinkPad Carbon Gen 2 is smooth, compared to the rough rubberised surface of the ThinkPad X1 Carbon Gen 1. Also, the trackpad left and right click is more precise, and is not as loud as the ThinkPad Yoga, which is the main convertible tablet i use nowadays.

-Build Quality

ThinkPad X1 Carbon Gen 1 that i got had some build quality issues, especially in the screen area and the TrackPad. Also, the overall fit and finish of the ThinkPad X1 Carbon Gen 1 is lot worse than the ThinkPad X1 Carbon Gen 2. I have to say that the ThinkPad X1 Carbon Gen 2 fit and finish is top notch, it is the only ThinkPad that i can compare to the Macbook Air 13 that i got one year ago (yes i do have Macbook laptop).

Surface coating on the X1 Carbon Gen 2 is anodised hard layer over Magnesium Alloy for the main body chassis (i think the screen cover is CFRP, but i am not sure), rather than the more typical rubberised layer of the older ThinkPad X1 Carbon Gen 1.

Hello and welcome,

Generally speaking, we're not supposed to be discussing password bypass.Other than reloading the OS you're probably out of luck.  I take it you didn't create recovery media?

Have you checked the usual: CAPSLOCK on (or off if on when creating the password), phantom NUMLOCK, etc?

Answer:Thinkpad S3 Yoga 14 and Thinkpad Pen Pro

Good day and welcome to the community.

Sorry you're having difficulty.
Per the online info document's statement: Only support models that are shipped with a notification flyer, stating that ?This system supports Active Pen.?, did yours contain such a flyer?

The other suggested method of determining Active Pen support is to contact Support (info below) with your serial number.

Hope this helps a bit.

It I my understanding that the Yoga 14 models do not support the Pen. It's frustrating and I disappointing. Return the pen and get a refund. Hopefully we will see a Pen Option.By the way, the reason the Pen doesn't work has to do with the actual display technology used on the current TP14 Yoga. I took a look, and the pen is still limited to the 12" models.Jim

I just bought a Thinkpad Yoga from Best Buy and upon opening, found that the pen pro included does not work. I'm on the most updated version of all the drivers, and the touch screen and multitouch with my hands still work. After taking an multimeter to measure the voltage of the pen, I found that the pen just wasn't charging. I'm a bit hesitant to check the voltage of the charging silo itself but my suspicion is that the pen is dead. Could this be a software problem? Has anyone encountered a similar problem? Should I return to pen and the laptop to bestbuy or just the pen? Or should this issue be brought to Lenovo instead?

Answer:Thinkpad Yoga 460 (Best Buy) - Thinkpad Pro Pen do...

I don't have a 460, but I do have a 260, which is a smaller, but VERY similar machine.  I had the same problem and I believe it is not the pen.  Before you do anything, you need to unplug the machine and disable the internal battery.  You do that by going into the BIOS and under the config tab, look under power.  There will be an option to disable the battery.  When this is selected, the machine will turn off.  The battery is re-enabled the next time you plug it in.  IF THE BATTERY IS NOT DISCONNECTED, YOU WILL CREATE A SHORT AND BLOW A IRREPLACEABLE FUSE ON THE MOTHERBOARD.  Remove the pen and look inside, where you will see 2 contacts.  My guess is that one or both got pushed back into the housing during manufacturing process.  You can take something fine and sharp like a needle and gently free them so they will pop back out.  Once I popped mine out, the pen charged very quickly and I never had another problem with it.

Hello,I bought a Thinkpad T450s just 3 days ago and found out it has a SIM Slot, but when i insert a SIM card inside the slot, it doesn't recognize my SIM card thus making me unable to connect to the internet via it and i need help on how i can connect to the internet through that means. I don't see the setting where i should connect to the WAN on my laptop. I am using Windows 7 Pro 64bit and i need help. Hope i get some answers and every answer will be appreciated thanks.

Answer:My Thinkpad T450s has a SIM Slot

Welcome to the forum!

While some ThinkPads come with full WWAN support, many are shipped "WWAN upgradable" with a SIM slot and antennas, etc. but without the hardware card needed to connect to a WWAN. This allows the customer to add a WWAN card in the future. Are you sure your ThinkPad is the former?

Could you please post the machine type and model number (but not serial number) e.g. 20BX001PUS

Hello, I have 2x1gb (same type) and 1x512mb (different manufacturer) ram sticks. With all seperatelly put in lower slot laptop works fine. If i put in 2x1gb i get 4 beeps and no boot, if i put 1gb+512mb i get black screen with no beeps. If i put any stick into upper slot i get 4 beeps. If i put no rams i get 1-3-3-1. I've tried to apply some pressure on slot - still 4 beeps with 2x1gb. I'm using latest bios version with default settings.  Looks like upper slot is faulty. Is there any way to fix it? Thanks.

You may need to get a new motherboard. That is the only way to fix it. Perhaps check on ebay or forum.thinkpads.com.Also check that there is no dust in the upper ram slot.

I want to install a firewire port on my Thinkpad T30

There is a slot on the left hand side of the pc which i think is a pcmcia slot?

I just wondered if someone could confirm this before i buy a pcmcia firewire card?

And if it is, could anyone tell me whether its a type I, II or III, or better still post me a link to a firewire card that would work with my lappy.

Silly question i know, but thanks in advance for any answers.

Answer:Does my Thinkpad T30 have a pcmcia slot?

http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?lndocid=MIGR-58227#exp
Scroll down to the section labeled "Expansion" or click on the "Expansion" link at the top of the article. Then look at the sub-section labeled 'PC Card'.

.... the answer is Yes. You have a PCMCIA port (2 actually if using Type I or Type II cards; the Firewire card is probably a Type III card, which will fit, but uses the space of 2 slots)

Just got my X1C yesterday and I have a couple of questions. 1. Just to verify, the RAM IS soidered to the motherboard and can't be added to DIY?2. Anyone having a issue with the "screen door" effect on the screen?3. Got the Thinkpad USB 3.0 dock as well, will it charge my X1C via USB 3.0 or do I need decited power to the laptop?4. What's the story on the USB ethernet dongle?  I thought it was supposed to be included in the product packaging?

Answer:Thinkpad X1 Carbon Questions

1. Correct2. Definitely can see it if I look closely, but very quickly got used to it3. No charging on the USB 3.0 dock.4. The dongle was an included item for early orderers (although they may have had to wait for it as there was a shortage).  When I ordered, the dongle was completely unavailable / not included.  Now, I believe the dongle is an optional add-on.

Hi,I've a Lenovo Thinkpad X1 Carbon (type: 20A7-0037US). After 2 weeks of not using it, when I decided to power it ON today, it didn't boot. Hi, I am not very familiar with computer stuff so my description might be too simple and lack important information. Please feel free to let me know what I miss so I could update the missing part ASAP. I bought this 3rd generation X1 Carbon (win 8.1 installed) two months ago. Everything worked just fine until I installed AVAST 2015 antivirus software when I could no longer connect to any wireless network. Well, strictly speaking the laptop was connected to the wireless network but I couldn't open any webpage successfully. The strange thing about it was that the remote control that I previously set up between my laptop and my office PC actually worked. So every time I wanted to open up a webpage, I had to do so from my office PC using remote control. I am thinking if it is an issue caused by my installation of AVAST. And if so, how can I fix it? Thank you very much everybody for taking the time and effort to read this and give instructions. I really appreciate any help!

Hello Support Forum: I performed that recent bios update to the X1 Carbon recently. The problem I'm experiencing, is the power button has a solid green light and it wont turn on when I press it. The only way to get my laptop to boot is to let the battery drain and die (I know this when the green light is out), plug the ac adapter in and turn it on that way. The problem will persist when I try to shut it down again.   Any thoughts? Thank you guys, I appreciate any help, I use my personal laptop for work.

Hello everybody, is there anybody that has upgraded his 3rd Gen X1 Carbon to a 1TB ssd? I'm running out of place and would like to have a bigger ssd and do not know which one I could use. I tried reading in the forums, but was not able to find out which SSD would work. Somehow NVMe is not supported, it has to be a PCIe SSD (I think), but I'm not too familiar with these things. I looked at the new Samsung SM961 1TB that is just coming out, would that be able to work? The specs are here: https://gzhls.at/blob/ldb/c/4/4/9/618ff48c1c0dc799c9442fd598fa06935527.pdf Any help would be deeply appreciated.Regards,Jochen

I received my Thinkpad X1 Carbon a week ago and it's been working fine both on battery power and on the AC adapter the entire time. This morning, I closed my laptop like usual (so it goes to sleep but doesn't shut down) and brought it to class with me. When I tried to wake it up though, nothing would work. It won't boot with the AC plugged in either. I'm pretty sure the battery is an integrated battery and I don't want to void my warranty by fiddling with it. Does anyone know what I can do about this problem? It's the only computer I have in college and I'm taking some computer science courses so my problem is pretty urgent. I also can't feasibly bring it to somewhere to repair since I'm in a pretty isolated town and I don't own a car. Also by reading the forums here, I'm under the impression that the Lenovo customer support line is simply terrible. Is that true? Once again, thanks for any possible insight!

Answer:Thinkpad X1 Carbon does not start up

Welcome to the community.

Sorry you're having issues.
Have you tried the "reset" hole on the bottom of the laptop? I believe that it's unmarked, but you'd use a paper clip to trip the switch. I don't have an X1C, personally, so I can't describe it further. I'm mobile at the moment, so have limited search capability, but if you search the forum for a post by Mark_Lenovo, I believe there's a picture of it.

Regarding contacting Service, I've personally never had anything but good experiences. Please keep in mind that on open forums like these, the good reports seldom get posted.

Greetings, My X1 Carbon Thinkpad will not connect to wi-fi either several times a week, or at worst, several times a day. I can try to get online with the Thinkpad and the tiny orange symbol is lit on the wi-fi icon. Clicking on that, the wi-fi message says, "not connected."  Sitting in the same chair, I pick up my Samsung Note tablet, and it effortlessly connects to my home network. My phone connects and my Kindle connects. Everything connects except the Thinkpad. At this moment, the X1 Carbon Thinkpad is connected, and I am typing on it in this forum. But, in an hour, I could pick it up, and it will not be connected. The "Windows Network Diagnostics" will tell me "Problem found." The explanation will be "Problem with wireless adapter or access point."  Then it will explain: "Not fixed."   Any suggestions?   Best regards,Bill Phillips, Durham, North Carolina

I just got X1 Carbon. Let's make it clear that this notebook is not worth the money. X230 is probably much better choice. You will get much better notebook with better hardware, better battery time, better size. It is not worth to buy X1 just because it is thin. Actually when you have X230 in your hands it feels much smaller than X1 Carbon!!! X1 Carbon Facts:No i7 with 8GB RAMNo 1000Gbps NIC (not even USB adapter with 1Gbps) I dont understand how business notebook does not have 1Gbps NIC. My 3.5 years old X61 has got 1Gbps NIC. Brand new X1 Carbond does not have it. I cannot believe it. Don't buy it. It is waist of money. Look at Toshiba or MacBook or X230. They are much better notebooks. I will look at Toshiba next after this bad experience. It is clear that Lenovo is not IBM and they started making compromizes. Thinkpad is not as it used to be. Have a good day.

Answer:X1 Carbon is the worst thinkpad I have ever had - think before you buy

"X230 is probably much better choice." - For many, including myself, the 12.5" screen is a deal breaker. Some of my colleagues use those and it's just too small for me. As for Mac, no thanks to running win on it.

I've Thinkpad edge 13 n want to use the sim card slot at the back of notebook, how can I use that? n also I see the empty slot near the SODIMM slot, wondering what for that slot? If there must be a hardware to activate, where can I buy? Thanks

Answer:Simcard slot at Thinkpad Egde 13"

The slot you see is most likely for a wwan card.  If you bought your Edge with the wwan option, there would be a wwan card there and a couple of antennas. The sim would then be used for that.  If you didn't get the wwan option, then there are no antennas there and no card.  It would kinda be an involved job to install the antennas to hook to the card which isn't there in order to use the sim slot.

I was recently caught in a rainstorm while biking with my laptop in my backpack while it was turned on. A small amount of water got into the system and the machine will now not turn on. When I plug in the machine, a green light on the laptop body next to the charging port turns on, which implies to me that the motherboard is functioning. However, the light indicating that the battery is charging does not turn on, and the machine itself also does not turn on. With the help of an IT desk, I opened the machine and unplugged the battery and the machine still did not turn on when plugged into the wall. However, we were unsure of whether we had bypassed the battery successfully, or whether this is even possible on this specific laptop. What I am wondering is whether there is a way to bypass the battery and run the system on wall power, to determine whether it is only the battery which has been damaged? If this is impossible, is there any other way to determine whether it is the battery which is the only failing piece before I commit to purchasing a new battery which may or may not solve my problem?

Hello there,Been trying to figure this one out for a while and am having no luck.My X1 carbon gen 2, 4600, i7, 256gb SSD, 8GB ram is throwing up memory error errors in the Lenovo diagnostics and windows fails to boot. The laptop is out of warranty now, so my only options are either finding someone who can solder on some new memory modules for me (the BIOS is surprisingly complete there, gives you the module number and everything) or buying a new motherboard, in this case the 00HN769 but they are a minimum $500 for a unit.Anyway basically just want to know if this was a common fault with these boards, whether or not I will be able to source the 00HN769 without a CPU attached to save costs, or whether (hopefully) there was some other fix for this that I could try?Lastly I was wondering if anyone knows where I could source the memory modules, M471B5674-H0-YK0.... I can't find many motherboards (a few refurbished ones on ebay) or much info on the ram and no one else seems to have had this issue.Thoughts?really appreciate any help, am dying without this thing, my Alienware m17xr4 VS X1 is such a change in laptop size...Thanks!

Answer:Thinkpad X1 Carbon memory failure

FYI on this one, in case anyone else has the same problem in the future...I couldn't come up with a single person who's had this problem besides myself.Cost for the ram alone was about $100 per chip, so $200, and then labour to solder them on was going to cost me about $50-100, so $250-$300 AUD, and no guarantee.  Ended up just buying a new motherboard, with CPU ram etc for $500 off ebay.  Lenovo don't seem to sell these motherboards to general public, best price I could come up with for just the motherboard was around $800 though, new, so second hand is the way to go with these.Hopefully this helps someone in the future.

Hello, I recently installed a ThinkPad OneLink Pro to go along with a user's X! Carbon.  Once I had the drivers installed everything appears to work ok except for when the user has external speakers connected to the dock.  The speakers are USB powered and also plug into the headphone jack. When inside of "Sound Options" within the control panel you see the device light up once I plug the headphone cable in but no audio comes out of the speakers.  It continues to come out of the speakers on the laptop itself. Troubleshooting 1.  I connected the USB cable to the laptop and left headphone connection in dock.  No audio from external speakers audio played through laptop speakers.2.  I connected the USB cable to the laptop and connected the headphone cable to the laptop.  Audio comes from the external speakers.3. Reconnected everything back to dock and disabled speakers on laptop.  No audio from external speakers but audio still comes from laptop speakers4. Same setup as #3 but enabled laptop speakers and manually set External speakers to be default playback.  No audio from external speakers...audio came through laptops speakers. To me this seems to point to the dock but I'm not sure what I can do.  I checked the utility for the dock itself but all those functions do is point you to sections in Control Panel. As a side note she had a different Lenovo dock before that did not power the lap... on the product catalog it says :M.2 Solid State Drive (SSD), PCIe 2.0 x4 or SATA does it means i can have there 1 m.2 ssd AND pcie ssd ? I am trying to get at least 1tb of total storage. or it least 750, is that possible?

Answer:ThinkPad X1 Carbon, how much disk space can i add ?

Good day and welcome to the community.

There is only one M.2 slot available for storage in the Carbon3. It supports both PCIe or SATA SSDs of 22x80 mm form factor. For PCIe SSDs, 512gb is the current maximum. I don't know, personally, the maximum available capacity for current M.2 2280 SATA SSDs.

Hope this helps clarify.
Regards.

Is it possible to change keyboard on Thinkpad X1 carbon ?I am considering buying it in the US and replace the keyboard with a Norwegian keyboard.

Answer:Possible to change keyboard on Thinkpad X1 carbon ?

Hey there roarm, I looked in the Hardware Maintenance Manual for the X1 Carbon. Unfortunately the Keyboard is a FRU only, and would have to be replaced in the Depot. So you technically could, but it would take potentially months before you get the computer ready to use, if you order it through the US.
