XPS 13 9360 Windows Fall Creators (Build 1709) Update

Question: XPS 13 9360 Windows Fall Creators (Build 1709) Update

Hello Folks,
I have a XPS 13 9360, 16 GB with an upgrade Samsung 960 Evo NVMe 1TB drive. I'm running Windows 10 Pro Build 1703, and the system runs nicely. However, yesterday Windows Update made me upgrade to 1709. The upgrade process ran smoothly, but afterwards I had the following problems:

When I tried to save a Hyper-V VM, my system sometimes crashes with a blue screen
When shutting down windows, the system gets stuck on the "Shutting down..." screen and can only be switched off by long-pressing the power-button. After that, the system boots into maintenance mode, when rebooting again it boots normally.

I forced a downgrade to 1703 and the problems disappeared again. Now I have disabled upgrades and am trying to find out how to fix this.
Has anyone run into problems with the 1709 update? Any suggenstions?
Cheers,
Uwe

Preferred Solution: XPS 13 9360 Windows Fall Creators (Build 1709) Update

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: XPS 13 9360 Windows Fall Creators (Build 1709) Update

It seems the new Creator's build is causing several different types of problems with some of the Dell systems.
Since you have already rolled back, I suggest you continue to wait until an update is released which helps. Since there are several threads concerning some of these problems you should be able to tell when a fix is found.
I don't about the Hyper-V situation but I seem to remember it having problems with earlier builds.

I?m happy to announce the Fall Creators Update (version 1709) is fully available for all compatible devices running Windows 10 worldwide! Full availability is the final phase of our rollout process. I am having issues updating from 1703 to 1709, and I could use some help.

I used the native Windows Update tool to download 1709. I restarted my computer when prompted to begin the installation. I got about a quarter of the way through the installation when I got a blue screen. The computer then reverted back to 1703 automatically.

I used the Windows 10 upgrade assistant tool, but that resulted in the same blue screen. (Also, I noticed that the tool mentioned that my computer was running a much older version of Windows 10 than is actually installed.)

I used the Windows Update Troubleshooter, which seems to have cleared most of the files in the "SoftwareDistribution" folder. After using the Update Troubleshooter, I tried using the upgrade assistant tool again, but it still failed. Now, when I used the native update tool, it says that my system is up to date. But that is impossible because I still haven't been able to download and install 1709.

Any suggestions? I have an HP Spectre x360.

Hi, please post a screenshot of your partitions using Minitool partition wizard.

To post a screenshot please use the Insert Image icon above your post to the left of the video icon. Thanks.

Please post your windows build:
Windows key + R, winver
Also a screenshot of your Update History.

What is your disk type? (HDD, SSD etc?)

Please make sure you have around 20Gb free on your C: drive, and 500Mb of unallocated space on your system drive.

1. First check your disk:
Download and run Hard Disk Sentinel (trial) and make sure all disks are reported as good.
If not, do not continue, and post back .

2. Now check your file system:

From an admin command or powershell prompt
[Windows key + X, click command prompt (admin)]
chkdsk C: /F
Your PC will need to restart.
Post back the result, which you can get after a restart as follows:

Hello I've got a problem with Windows 1709 update. After I updated, games only sees and uses my R7 APU graphics card.My dedicated R9 M385X has absolutely no usage. In AMD crimson software, I can't set anything to "High performance" mode, so everything sticks with the R7 card. (More precisely I can set to R9 but the program sets it back to R7). In power options I slide the slider to the Max. Has anybody any solution for this problem? Thank youSorry for my English

Sounds normal to me. Since all of your Windows Updates are up to date, there aren't updates to restart to.
Next week the first Tuesday of the month will probably have cumulative updates as well as other updates available sometime during the week and when the computer is ready to download and then install them you should see the option to update and restart shown again.

Hi,

Since the update, Microsoft is pushing strange Update Packages to me. Before the Update, everything was fine, now the Text says i.e.:
for AMD64 based systems KB4051963

but what the heck, I do have a x64 based system (Intel).

I don't now now if it is just the text what is wrong or if MS is really pushing wrong Update packages onto my computer.

Anyone having a similar issue?

Answer:Since Windows 10 Fall Creators Update (1709) - Update Packages weird

It’s OK, it’s just the way MS have worded the update. It’s fine to download & install.
amd64 based is just meaning that it is x64 based windows instead of x86 (32 bit). AMD owns the IP for 64-bit processes that we all use. Doesn't matter if it is AMD or INTEL .

After updating to 1709 the sound to my AV reciever cuts off randomly all the time. Its connected with HMDI from my gpu (nvidia 980ti), and I've never had this problem. I've tried deleting drivers, updating them. I did a roll back to 1703 and everything was workig fine. Its using the regular windows driver. (High definition driver)

After that I did a manual update to 1709 again and tried both the default windows driver and nvidia sound driver, and both drivers work according to windows, but I still have the same issue with the sound coming on for a second and then goes away. I might add that the sound works perfecly with both windows driver and nvidia driver in 1703. And that in both cases I used the newest nvidia driver and I used driver uninstaller before installing it.

Any suggestions or someone with similar isse? It's so anoying since most of the time I use my desktop on my TV with a wireless keyboard and mouse.

Unless you have a major pressing issue to update to the Fall CU - roll back and stay back for a while.

These updates have bugs that can take some time to fix. You are not missing out on any 'big things' sticking to the previous build.

I updated my OptiPlex 7050 to the Fall Creators Update 1709 and my HDMI port has stopped working.  I'm running a dual monitor system, one monitor is using the display port and the other is using HDMI port.  After the update the port just stopped functioning.
Here's what I've tried:

I've tried three different monitors
Tried three different hdmi cables, plus one HDMI to display port
Flashed the BIOS
Installed the latest display drivers from Dell

As soon as I roll back the update, everything is fine.  To stop Windows to keep trying to update, I've set the branch readiness level to "Current Branch for Business" and deferred it for 365 days.
Is anyone else having this problem?
I'm in No hurry to install this update!

Hi, I've never had a problem updating my Win 10 Pro up til now. But for some reason, I am unable to go from current version 1703 to latest version 1709. I'm using the Windows 10 Update Assistant - which downloads the files and runs the installation. The computer then signs out and restarts - I see the blue Windows screen with the % going up... but once it reaches 18%, it flips to a black restart screen that tells me it's "Attempting to Recover..." followed by "Restoring previous version of Windows..."

And what a long process to try again all over to get to this point.

I have alot of programs installed on my PC and don't want to lose any of these... Has someone else encountered this issue, or can provide an alternate way of installing?

As a side note I have less than 12GB remaining on my C: would this be the problem????

It's very likely that it is.

Do you have a windows.old folder on your C drive and how much space does it occupy? Can't remember if checking that requires setting explorer to show hidden or protected operating system files/folders or not.

Hi,

I have update three machines to the new Fall Update, and all of them have the same issue with the Logon Screen.
I have had the 'Cave' picture to be shown when logging in and after installing the Fall Update, this picture was replaced by the stupid Mountain Lake.
Ok, I thought, just let's set it back to my previous picture (I also tried my own ones). Have done it, also checked the box that the Lock Screen picture will be used on the Logon Screen, but after re-booting, the Mountain Lake was there again.

I have the same issues on all three systems (Surface Pro 3 with the Professional 64 edition, as well as on the PCs with the Home Edition.

Anyone experiencing the same and probably having a solution for it?

Thought someone might be interested to know what broke on this update, which did install without errors. I have spent 4 or 5 hours trying to sort out all it did. Some amaze me like deleting ALL my saved Restore Points!!

Windows Creator Update broke, reset or disrespected my settings choices of the following unacceptably:

1. Folder Settings - ALL folders in Windows Explorer were reset to the factory default views removing customized columns and choices for folder types. Why? What a hassle!

2. My custom recycle icons were reset to default. Also why? Sloppy updating.

3. Telemetry was re-enabled with yet more being reported in to the mother ship.

4. Privacy settings changed.

5. Removed all prior system restore points!!!

6. Reset my disabling of the touch screen.

7. Re-enabled a disabled Cortana

8. Reset my changed text highlight color

9. Changed back fixes for DCOM Errors and most cannot be corrected again saying no permissions to make changes

10. A number of new features required new settings choices - battery usage by app, etc., but that's OK. This is expected.

11. 30GB of old data retained for 10-30 days in windows.old while the opportunity remains to revert. A good thing, but worth noting.

12. Added some things of yet unknown value such as Mixed Reality and Paint 3D. To be investigated.

Might be more. All I have noted so far. And, restart takes much longer as it shuts down and restarts. Unsure why.

It has to - none of the previous restore points can be applied to a completely new OS as they contain files from the old system.

It's 10 days since 1607 (it was 30 up to 1511). You can delete it earlier if you want.

There's a new feature in 1709. Certain apps that can register to do so will be reopened at the next boot if they were open when you shut down. It seems that it's saving/restoring the required data that takes the extra time (even if you had no apps open).

IE, Chrome, MS Office, Wordpad and Task Manager are some of the app that will reopen at startup. Edge, Firefox and Notepad are amongst those that don't. There are alternative ways to shut down that don't use this feature...

I installed the FCU 1709 today. About an hour ago, I was looking at my C: drive properties and I lost about 20 GB's with the install. Are there some very large download/install files on my C: drive that can be deleted now ? My C: drive is SDD 128 GB and before the install, I had about 75 GB's "free" and now I have 55 GB's free. It's not like I'm out of space, but a few more "feature" updates will make it so. I try to load data and other apps on my 1 TB conventional drive, if at all possible. When I look at my C: drive via properties, disk cleanup there's only about 15 MB's to be gained. What's up with all of this missing disk space ??

Tried a few times to install the 1709 creators update.

After configuring the update and restarting I get a
system thread exception not handled error.

In the end Windows restores the previous version.

Obviously it leaves me puzzling as to what might have caused the issue.

Will let it rest for a while.Probably the only way is to do a clean install (reset) which requires a lot of time on installing the applications...

Is there a way to do a kind of 'pre-scan-tool' that checks if everything is okay/1709 compatible or something?

Thanks.

The Verizon WWAN connection works if no Ethernet present and Wifi is off.
Plug in Ethernet cable (static or dhcp to non internet router) and the Cellular connection changes to private so we lose internet. If I turn on wifi and connect it to a non internet router - then the Celllular connection is used. We need to keep wifi off though.
How can I prioritize the Cellular over Ethernet when wifi is turned off? The setup is Panasonic toughpad connected to Verizon for wireless messaging to a server, while connected via Ethernet cable static IP to router that has a private netork to a phone. This worked up to the 1709 Creator's update. How can it be made to work again?

I recently updated to Windows 10 build 1709 known as the fall creators update.  Since applying the update fast startup/shutdown no longer works.  I have reinstalled the latest power management driver just to be sure but it still exhibits the same behavior.  With fast startup enabled in power options when I tell the system to shutdown it simply logs out and will not power off.  The only way to get it to power off is to disable fast startup in the power options.  Annoyingly it re-enables itself after every cumulative update. Any ideas?

Hi Guys, Looking to consolidate the list of issues I have with my TP since updating to Win10 Fall Creators Update (1709) update. And I am looking for help in resolving the outstanding issues. I have gone through the common resolution methods on this official Lenovo site as well as from this collection of tips. Outstanding issues below. 1. Keyboard AUTO backlight setting is not working, light doesn't come on when its dark on its own.2. Auto screen brightness control is not working3. Screen rotation button is still greyed out in the sidebar as well as settings4. OLED colour profile settings had stopped working and disappeared. (But this fix worked)5. Intel SGX drivers were busted (finally updated on their own via Win10) Now for 1, 2 and 3, I think this is an integrated sensors issue and I have tried uninstalling the Intel Sensor Solution device drivers from Device Manager and then updated the drives through Lenovo Companion. Nothing changed.Windows Update later also installed an update called Intel Integrated Sensor Solution but these issues have not gone away. On a positive note, this Win10 update and the related updates to Synaptics touchpad drivers resolved the issue of the cooling fan being constantly being on (this forum attributed the issue to bad synaptics drivers). Anyone else facing the same issue related to sensors on this machine? As of 5 minutes ago, there were no new updates on LenovoCompanion or on Win10. Thanks

Only Games Tab is working, also my Desktop and Laptop are not working after the update. If I create a new user it works fine.....

It happens on both laptop and desktop so it must be a settings or something with upgrade. I don't know..
It tried all DISM command, SFC /Scannow . Store repair, Store clean Cache. but again , new user is working fine on both.

Do you also have issue with STORE ? I'm having issue on both Desktop and Laptop ... so it's not because of software I'm using. I did an Upgrade on both. Can you see the Home/Apps tab properly without grey squares ?

If I create new USER / ADMIN , it works fine .. is it some kind of setting in windows I might disabled ? because on the created account everything is enabled in privacy and others. what setting could make ?

Answer:Windows 10 1709 Fall Creators STORE not working

I've found the fix !

Yes !! I've found the STORE issue with grey squares. The only thing that was different with the other user that it was in FULL HEBREW. now on my main account I'm using it all ENGLISH . so it seems that it can't work with HEBREW + ENGLISH Mix. like Region Israel/Hebrew and Language English !

For example it doesn't work when
Region Format Hebrew ( Israel )
Location Israel
Current language for non-Unicode programs English ( United States )

Also on Languages English United States on TOP
Hebrew on Bot

It does work when I choose some of them as English or hebrew and Hebrew on TOP before ENGLISH

Today, at Build 2017, we announced the next wave of Windows 10 innovations built to empower the creator in all of us ? the Windows 10 Fall Creators Update. Available later this year, the Fall Creators Update delivers new experiences for more than 500 million Windows 10 devices: A new design system for the next wave of creativity across devices; experiences that move with you across Windows, iOS, and Android; iTunes, Spotify, SAP Digital Boardroom are coming to the Windows Store; new tools that make Windows home for all developers; and the world?s first Windows Mixed Reality motion controllers ? no markers required.

The spirit of creativity lives in each of us. So often our lives are changed by creating something out of nothing, from a big idea, a dream, or just a simple thought.

Like the incredible developers here at Build, I experienced my own personal creativity in software development. I remember what it was like to wait as my code compiled, then seeing it come to life on the screen for the first time. There is an amazing feeling of creativity that comes from software development. I love seeing that spark of creativity in our Windows developer community.

The Windows 10 Creators Update began rolling out last month to more than 500 million Windows 10 devices around the world. It?s exciting to see more than 300 million people using Windows 10 every day for more than 3.5 hours a day on average. With all of this engagement, we?re most proud that Windows 10 c... Read more

I came across this new behavior a couple days ago and thought I did something screwy to my image. I read Bree's post and found it's an intended feature now on a restart Fall Creators Update reopens apps from before

That thread has some good suggestions for alternate shutdown methods. The intention of this tutorial is to restore pre-1709 (like) functionality to the normal Restart and Shut down buttons in the Start menu.

Since the default reboot behavior uses the shutdown.exe slash G switch - applications that are left open will attempt to "register" themselves to be re-opened. This is done by creating a RunOnce value at logoff, so you won't see it while online. Not all apps are capable of registering themselves in this way and can't be re-opened automatically.

In the below screenshot I have left a few programs open, shutdown the computer, then booted to WinPE and loaded my HKCU hive in regedit. You can see the apps that are going to be re-opened once I boot back up, each named like "Application Restart".

The script below will remove every value starting with "Application Restart #"

Code:
$HKCURunOnce='HKCU:Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\RunOnce'
(Get-ItemProperty $HKCURunOnce).PSObject.Properties |
Where-Object {$_.Name -like "Application Restart #*"} |
ForEach {Remove-ItemProperty -Path $HKCURunOnce -Name $_.Name}

You can set this as a user logoff script in gpedit or gpmc, or use the attached scripts:... Read more

After installing Full Creators update 1709 in Windows 10 64 bit Prof. in the laptop HP EliteBook 8540w, the logon screen appears without the text box where to enter the password. Only after about half an hour appears this text box and Windows 10 can be started. We have returned to the previous update and installed again the 1709 update, but the problem appears again.

[Moreover this update marks the checkbox labeled "turn on fast startup" (in: Power Options, choose what the power button does, change settings that are currently unavailable), which prevents Windows 10 to shut down.]

Thanks for any help you can give.

I would like to comment on the Fall Creator's Edition Update of Windows 10!  This has to be one of the biggest disasters that Microsoft has ever accomplished.  As one can see from the various problems encountered after the install this update was not well designed, was not thoroughly quality controlled and now has the support staff scrambling to figure out how to answer all of the issues that it caused.  Here is my list of issues after the update:  Mail and Calendar programs missing from Start Menu, Control Panel Apps shows them to be installed but I cannot add to start menu and cannot start either program.  Several other Apps also missing from Start Menu including Amazon, Adobe Reader and most other third party Apps but also several more Microsoft Apps or Windows Programs.  Files missing:  Somehow during the install Microsoft decides to remove the pointers from the Pictures and Documents folders so that it appears all previous files in these locations are lost.  By navigating thru Users...Documents I was able to retrieve all of the files but how many novice or new users are going to know how to do this type of trouble shooting?  This is a bonafide nightmare for Microsoft and takes me one step closer to trading in all of Dell computers for Macs!  It cannot possibly be worse than two days of troubleshooting and researching how to get back to the same functionality I had before installing the latest Windows 10 Update!  ... As with the Creators Update, the key to our phased approach is actively listening to all available feedback mechanisms and making the appropriate product updates during the rollout. This allows us to provide a high-quality experience for the broadest set of users at an accelerated rate, while also continually increasing the quality and security of Windows 10. This was our approach with the Creators Update released in April and user feedback on this approach was very positive.

For the best experience, we recommend you wait until Windows 10 is automatically offered to your device. You don?t have to do anything to get the update; it will roll out automatically to you through Windows Update if you?ve chosen to have updates installed automatically on your device. Once the download is complete and the update is ready to install, we?ll check with you, so you can pick the right time to finish the installation and reboot. We do this so we can ensure the update does not disrupt you, and we use active hours to help suggest a good time.

If you don?t want to wait for the update to roll out to you, you can manually check for updates on your personal PC using the steps below. This will only work if your device is eligible to get the Fall Creators Update as part of the initial roll out phase. Alternatively, you can manually get the update today via the Software Download Site. This option is only recommended for advanced users on devices running a licensed version of Windows 10. If ... I just downloaded the above mentioned update and it looks like some fun things are here. I am interested in giving "Paint 3D" a shot although I am told it's designed for touch screen and I don't use one.
Here's the problem---it has force fed me "OneDrive" which I am not a fan of...it's too obtrusive and even wants me to save everything I do to it.
QUESTION: Is there a way to get it off my computer....NOT turn it off or hide it, but, stop it from popping up every time I want to save something or its appearing in the shell.
I have my own cloud space I'm fond of I don't need another.
All of that said...preliminary observation says this update looks like fun.

Spoiler (Highlight to read)IMPORTANT!!IMPORTANT!!Friends from Lenovo,Yesterday I did the update to the new version of Windows 10, called Windows 10 Fall Creators Update or Windows 10, version 1709, and after the update was done I find out that the hotkey driver, that controls the Fn commands on the keyboard of my Lenovo ThinkPad X220, doesn`t work correctly with this new version of Windows 10. Therefore, I would like to know what can I do to fix this issue, so the hotkey commands work properly again in my notebook, or if it is going to be an update of this file (8jvu43ww.exe) that I could install in my notebook to fix this issue. Could you please tell me what can I do to make the Fn commands work properly with the new update of Windows 10 (Windows 10 Fall Creators Update) or if it is going to be an update of the hotkeys that is compatible with the new version of Windows 10?I look forward to hear your comments, and I hope you already have an idea, an answer to solve this issue. Yours truly,Cristián Palau

Windows 10 Fall Creators Update Reaches RTM

Microsoft has completed development of the Windows 10 Fall Creators Update, with the official release to take place as planned on October 17.

The company today shipped Windows 10 build 16299.15 to insiders in the Fast ring, and according to reports, this is the RTM build of the Fall Creators Update that everyone will get later this month.

The only difference is that Microsoft will continue to service (to improve) this particular build with more cumulative updates, and this means that insiders will be provided with several patches in the coming days until October 17.

Microsoft has promised to confirm when the RTM build is compiled, so an announcement in this regard is expected anytime soon, especially because the company is also likely to start pushing smaller patches to devices enrolled in the Insider program in the next few days.

No word on the mobile release just yet
For the time being, no stand-alone ISOs are available for insiders, but once the very same build is released to the Slow ring, such media should also be released for those who want to perform a clean install. Additionally, this build should also make it to the Release Preview ring in the coming weeks.

Of course, whoever wants to clean-install build 16299.15 can build their own ISO, though this requires additional steps. Learn here how to build your own Windows 10 ISO.

Now that Windows 10 Fall Creators Update is close to getting the final go-ahead, insiders in... Read more

What kind of trouble are you having downloading the link from Microsoft?
I deleted the link because it's not a good idea to download the link from a third party when Microsoft itself publishes the files. It's extremely difficult to know for sure if any third party is adding malware or something else into the files.

In Trainwreck of errors related to seemingly-normal Win10 updates - help! Solved - Windows 10 Forums I posted of my confusion, a problem now solved, about an ASUS laptop that came with Windows 10 installed suddenly being unable to download and install updates. "Net" of that was the computer needed a BIOS update, and once the shop did that, they were able to update Windows.

Problem solved... almost.

Today, my wife, who uses the laptop, was freaking because all of her documents were "gone."

I knew this wasn't the case, and with some looking, I found that the user accounts from the computer, pre-1709, were now in a folder called "Users_old" (D:\Users_old). A new "Users" folder was created with the 1709 update. That folder contains one folder for my wife (since it was her account logged in when the update was done), and that folder contains one "Documents" folder that was created when she tried to access her documents from the desktop "My Documents" shortcut that points to D:\Users\[wife]\Documents

I have read that the "Windows_old" folder is automatically removed after 10 days in a situation like this.

What happens to "Users_old?" THAT is the valid folder containing the files for my wife, and others who once had accounts on the computer.

Do I rename "Users" (the useless users folder created at the 1709 update) to "Users_New" and rename "Users_Old" to "User... Read more

You might not have been offered the upgrade, because of the software/hardware you have. Like AMD causing black screen during boot.

Hi all,

I have big problems with the new MS update which prevents me from installing updates or drivers.
It seems that MS has a mind of its own because whenever i install newer drivers it keeps saying that older drivers are installed in device manager..

This is what i mean:

As you can see the driver simply won't update in device manager no matter what i do..
Same as for Realtek audio drivers, i donloaded the newest from MS update but i can't install it and see; "the best drivers are already installed for your device"

Is my Windows corrupt or went bad or something or am i overlooking something? I ran sfc /scannow and found nothing, DISM also didn't find anything but repaired the image anyway.

Plz help me with this as this frustrates me beyond belief..

Thank you in advanced,

Hurricane28.

Hello everyone!

So a couple of weeks ago (I think) I decided to install the Fall Creators Update on my computer. It was already running Windows 10 and everything ran fine. However, when the update installed and the computer rebooted, the Wi-Fi adapter wasn't working. It is an ASUS PCE-AC68. It is worth noting that my setup consists of a small SSD with Windows installed and then a large HDD with all my files on it. There are several directory junctions for certain programs and the Users folder pointing to the large HDD. Just mentioning this in case it's got something to do with this...

So I started looking into it and device manager throws an error saying Code 10 This device could not start. Then on the line below it says The requested operation as unsuccessful. (I'm getting this from my memory, I'm out of town atm) I tried using newer or older drivers from ASUS and Broadcom and none of them work but still throw the same exact error. Any ideas on this?

To further troubleshoot this issue I fired up an Ubuntu Live USB Stick and used that Wi-Fi adapter and it ran just fine. So I know it's something within Windows. I've been getting by with an old D-Link USB adapter but it is not stable so this is starting to become urgent.

Thanks!

Answer:Windows 10 Fall Creators Update BROKE Wi-Fi Adapter

Hi DarkShadow641

I would run the network trouble shooter, Start >Settings > Updates and Security > Troubleshooters

If that doesn't fix run Network Reset. Start => Settings => Network & internet => Scroll to bottom of right hand side =>Network Reset

This will cause you to “Forget” your wireless passwords and you may have to reset any VPN or customized communication software if you use.

I plan to do a clean install, can I use a Windows 10 Insider Preview or a Windows 10 Enterprise Evaluation to activate the official key? If not, what are the other ways to get a copy of the ISO?

Answer:Windows 10 Fall Creators Update Enterprise ISO and activation

The vast majority of Enterprise installs will be VL activated as they are designed for use in an enterprise location using Licence servers, there are some Non VL versions available and the ISOs are available from the vendor of the Key, Indeed no official vendor should be supplying only a key excepting Microsoft who supply downloads and MAK keys as part of the MSDN service and these are tracked and any unauthorised usage will result in the withdrawal of the licences The insider and trial versions have expiration dates and are not designed to accept a key other than the default Key they are supplied with

https://threatpost.com/say-goodbye-to-smbv1-in-Windows-fall-creators-update/126387/

The crusty SMBv1 file-sharing protocol, abused by a NSA exploit last month that spread WannaCry, will be removed from Windows 10 starting with the upcoming Redstone 3 update.

?We can confirm that SMBv1 is being removed for Redstone 3,? a Microsoft representative told Threatpost.

Redstone 3, a code-name for the Fall Creators Update, will begin the phasing out of SMBv1, a plan that reportedly has been in the works for years and is not a reaction to the EternalBlue exploit, nor WannaCry. It is due in September.

SMBv1, short for the Server Message Block protocol, provides shared access to Windows file and print services on a local network. Attackers believed to have ties to North Korea used the EternalBlue exploit, leaked in April by the ShadowBrokers, to spread the ransomware worldwide on May 12. Hospitals in the U.K., giant telecommunications providers across Europe, and many businesses in Russia and across Asia fell victim to WannaCry, which eventually infected unpatched Windows servers running SMBv1 in more than 150 countries.
Microsoft had patched the SMBv1 vulnerability in question in March in MS17-010, one month before the ShadowBrokers? leak, and urged admins worldwide to install the patch immediately. The WannaCry outbreak, however, demonstrated that many organizations did not heed those warnings; the ransomware, generally derided for its shoddy coding, still managed to infect... Read more

Hi,

Found the following bugs in v1709.

1) The Windows Push Notification System Service now defaults to 'automatic' instead of 'manual'. If you set the startup to 'manual' and reboot, any newly created accounts will have a non-functional Start Menu.

2) Software Restriction Policy now extends BAT file restriction to local group policy ( gpedit.msc ) 's logon/logoff script settings. That means you cannot no longer use a bat file for logon/logoff scripts if SRP is active. You can always remove the BAT extension from being covered by SRP, but that would decrease security.

3) Software Restricion Policy's Enforcement section: if you specify SRP to cover 'all software files'; meaning it covers DLL files as well as EXE, then MS Edge will crash. (this bug actually started in v1703, but is still not fixed)

Windows 10 Fall Creators Update Bug Blocks the Install on Some PCs

The Windows 10 Fall Creators Update is now being released in stages to users across the world, so while some people might receive it faster than others, there?s a bunch of unlucky Microsoft customers who can?t install the update because of a critical bug.

Some users are complaining that installing the Fall Creators Update fails unexpectedly, and the only common thing in all reports is a hardware mix of motherboards using Intel?s X299 chipsets and NVMe SSD drives.

Clean install solves the problems
This means that quite a large number of systems could be impacted, as the issue can affect motherboards manufactured by Asus, MSI, and Gigabyte. It?s not yet known how widespread the problem currently is, but Microsoft says it?s investigating and return with a fix shortly.

I tried resetting my SSD (Kingston 128GB) but this issue is so bad that it won't even let me do that,? one Microsoft user who turned to the Community forums to report the issue explained.

Answer:Windows 10 Fall Creators Update Bug Blocks the Install on Some PCs

On a Lenovo w/NVMe, Intel IO and an immaculate pre-Fall CU system, I could not understand why the "upgrade" to Fall CU was so issue-laden: failures, duplicate downloads--ultimately it took though. A relatively decrepit machine w/SSD breezed right thru it. Noticed afterward, I had an extra recovery partition but since there were no outward problems, just let it go. Yesterday, Start menu and most taskbar items became unresponsive. So, I did a repair-install earlier today: the disk is back to the normal EFI/C/Recovery and everything works. For now.

Thanks for this info, not fun trying to figure it out.

When we introduced Windows Defender Advanced Threat Protection (Windows Defender ATP), our initial focus was to reduce the time it takes companies to detect, investigate, and respond to advanced attacks. The Windows Fall Creators Update represents a new chapter in our product evolution as we offer a set of new prevention capabilities designed to stop attacks as they happen and before they have impact. This means that our service will expand beyond detection, investigation, and response, and will now allow companies to use the full power of the Windows security stack for preventative protection. The stack will be powered by our cloud-based security intelligence, which moves us from a world of isolated defenses to a smart, interconnected, and coordinated defense grid that is more intelligent, simple to manage, and ever-evolving.

We will also provide a single pane of glass experience for security professionals. This means that security management (SecMgmt) teams can easily configure a broad set of Windows security stack technologies through an integrated configuration management experience. Security operations (SecOps) teams get full visibility into their Windows endpoint security and a rich toolset to take action using the Windows Defender ATP console. This will not only give companies a full picture of what?s happening on their endpoints, but will also put them in the driver seat to quickly react to threats as they happen. I have a RealSense F200 camera. Since I installed the FCU, I noticed Windows Hello stopped working.
Fails to inialize the camera on the login screen. It also fails the camera setup.
The camera works, as a webcam. What doesn't seem to work is the red light dot that used to light up when in use (ie, the IR camera).
The device admin in the control panel shows only a single camera. I don't remember well but I think it's supposed to have a separate driver for the IR part of the camera?
Anyway, did anyone get the same problem?

Thanks!

1 day ago installed the Windows 10 Fall Creators update and now during bootup I get multiple Bad Image File messages for MSVCR110.dll and MSVCP120.dll.  These are mostly associated with Nividia and Synapse with an occasional reader.sl.exe.  Correcting this problem seems to be problematic.  The redistribute Visual C++ software comes from the same company that initiated the incompatability issue in the first place.  Removal and reistallation of the RZ Synapse is about an 8 step process that I have not tried yet.  If someone has experienced these issues and found a reasonable Fix please point me in the the general direction.  Y900 RE is my computer.

What does show up is a Sierra Wireless Location Sensor in the device manager under the sensors category type. What does show up in device manager is a 'Sierra Wireless Location Sensor' under the Sensors category.I did try to install the Sierra Wireless softwar from here: https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/forums/postpage/board-id/tp07_en. We?ve come a long way since we launched DirectX 12 with Windows 10 on July 29, 2015. Since then, we?ve heard every bit of feedback and improved the API to enhance stability and offer more versatility. Today, developers using DirectX 12 can build games that have better graphics, run faster and that are more stable than ever before. Many games now run on the latest version of our groundbreaking API and we?re confident that even more anticipated, high-end AAA titles will take advantage of DirectX 12.

DirectX 12 is ideal for powering the games that run on PC and Xbox, which is the most powerful console on the market. Simply put, our consoles work best with our software: DirectX 12 is perfectly suited for native 4K games on the Xbox One X.

In the Windows 10 Fall Creators Update, we?ve added features that make it easier for developers to debug their code. In this article, we?ll explore how these features work and offer a recap of what we added in Windows 10 Creators Update.

But first, let?s cover how debugging a game or a program utilizing the GPU is different from debugging other programs.

As covered previously, DirectX 12 offers developers unprecedented low-level access to the GPU (check out Matt Sandy?s detailed post for more info). But even though this enables developers to write code that?s substantially faster and more efficient, this comes at a cost: the API is more complicated, which means that there are more opportunities for mistakes.

Many of these mi... Read more

Update went flawlessly. But now many programs open more slowly (5 to 10 seconds vs. 1 second). When they open, you can't click on the menu for 5-10 seconds. Happens in many apps like UltraEdit, Nitro Pro, Paint Shop Pro, etc. Some other apps work fine (e.g, Firefox, IE, etc.) . And this is with my fast gaming rig 6700K with an SSD. There is something in the Fall Creators update that is causing some programs to start slowly and in some cases run slowly. I restored my Macrium Reflect backup Image. This is nonsense Microsoft. I will never install another OS update until it reaches Current Branch for Business (now called Semi-Annual Channel for some stupid reason) - about 3 months from now ( Windows 10 release information - current branch, build history ).

Say goodbye to these Windows 10 features in the Fall Creators Update

The Windows 10 Fall Creators Update is just around the corner. The upcoming feature update is purported to sport the "1709" version number. It will also feature accessibility improvements, hardened security, enhancements to Windows AutoPilot management tools, and Microsoft account recovery directly via the lock screen, among other things.

However, there are a number of existing features that are getting removed or deprecated as well. Now, Microsoft has published a comprehensive list of features that are no longer in active development and will be removed in future updates; the company did the same before the rollout of the Creators Update. This has been done to allow customers and IT professionals to consider these changes and make future plans accordingly.

The list of removed and deprecated features is as follows:

Removed features

3D Builder
Apndatabase.xml
Enhanced Mitigation Experience Toolkit (EMET)
Outlook Express
Reader app

Screen saver functionality in Themes
Syskey.exe

Hello, I have a lenovo y700 and a yoga 900 laptop. Both laptops after the update cause their cpu fans to always run. I will power my laptops on and a minute or two later of if I open more than one tab while web browsing the fan speed shoots up and slows down a bit. Its a constant droning noise in the background. My CPU usage on both is 0-1% but the fan speed never stops. My y700 I had done a repair install per the moderators at the microsoft support forum but it still has not helped. I am holding off on doing anything to my yogo laptop since its a work/school laptop and there is a lot of programs and information on them. I also tried disabling cortana, search indexing, and a few other services to try and see if that helps. Really nothing has worked. I have looking into getting windows pro to see if that would help since most of the forums I have been reading have been the home edition. With windows pro I can correctly disable cortana and what not. I still dont know if that would work or not. I am at a loss here. Its super annoying and I am actually considering selling my work laptop and getting a mac. Any help would be great. Thanks.

I'm not sure if this is the right section for this topic, but I want to know if I'm the only one with this problem. It's really annoying and I'm wondering if there went something wrong while installing the update, or if this is on purpose.

It's nothing new that Windows 10 comes with pre-installed apps, for example Candy Crush Saga and Facebook, at least for some people. In the past it wasn't a problem for me, because I could just uninstall them and move on. It was annoying, but this was solved within a few minutes.

But since I installed the Fall Creators Update, I can't get rid of these apps. I removed them at least 4 times now, but they're back after a few hours because they're installed silently in the background, or they're back after I restart my computer - Candy Crush Soda Saga, Facebook, March of Empires, Minecraft and other games.

Sometimes they're not even really installed and they're just placeholders that get installed once you click them. But it's still annoying to remove them again and again.

Changes in the registry, for example to change "SilentlyInstalledAppsEnabled" to 0, didn't change anything. Microsoft should really stop this sponsored apps nonsense completely. It's not like they need the extra money they get from this.

Thanks for reading, have a nice day!

I can't get the service to start at all. I keep receiving this error. It is causing indexing to not work either. I tried the indexing troubleshooter with no luck. Any recommendations?

Originally, I updated to the Windows 10 Fall Creators Update using Windows Update except after Windows 10 Fall Creators Update was running, the Phone aka CommsPhone app is not installed properly as basically it is showing up as
ms-resource:AppListName in the Start Menu and when I click on it, it opens with a white box with just a menu bar that says Phone and then exits. I have tried going into Apps and Features and then selecting Advanced options under the Phone app and then Resetting the data.

I have also tried doing the following in a elevated PowerShell with no success which results in the same problem:

Code:
Get-appxpackage -allusers *BingNews* | Remove-AppxPackage
Get-AppxPackage -allusers *BingNews* | Foreach {Add-AppxPackage -DisableDevelopmentMode -Register ?$($_.InstallLocation)\AppXManifest.xml?}

I did a restore of the previous Windows 10 version so basically it restarted to the point where it is supposed to update to Fall Creators Update except it shows the update as pending after restart, ofcourse it just boots into Windows and Windows Update shows it has the latest updates with the Fall Creators Update pending after restart so I made sure the Phone app was working and then I basically did a install using the ISO instead and just like before, it installed successfully and everything is working and Phone basically has the same problem. Does anyone know what else I can do to fix this or is Phone even a working app in Windows 10 because in the store, it... Read more
