X1 Carbon Gen 4 (20FB) - MicroSD card slot wont lock

Question: X1 Carbon Gen 4 (20FB) - MicroSD card slot wont lock

I have a X1 Carbon Gen 4 (20FB).

I have found that when I insert my microSD card, it won't lock. I can close the cover and it barely has enough tension but it can keep the card in. I was thinking of buying a large microSD to use as a secondary hard drive as my primary NVMe SSD is getting full and having the card come out at any moment isnt going to work for me.

Any tips on how I might fix this issue?
I am still under warranty but it is a hassle sending the laptop back for who knows how long

Preferred Solution: X1 Carbon Gen 4 (20FB) - MicroSD card slot wont lock

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

On my X1 Carbon G4, when I insert a microsd card, it no longer clicks.  Are there any quick do-it yourself fixes?  I'm hesitent to do a depot repair because of the time and hassle. My current workaround is that I insert the card and close the cover on top of the card, the cover is barely strong enough to keep the card in place.  I don't use the slot often so the workaround is ok.  If I ever wanted to use it for an extended period of time, I would not trust this workaround.

Have X1 4th Gen, won't see micro-SIM card, which works in an external TP-Link device.  Preinstalled with HUAWEI Mobile Broad Band Module, which appears to be working. Sim Card loads into slot firmly and locks in place. Any and all help appreciated Martin

Okay, I did something really stupid. It was late, I was in the dark, and I wasn't paying attention (obviously) so here's what happened...

I had a SanDisk 2GB Micro SD Memory Card that I was using in my cell phone.
I wanted to transfer some pics & photos from my computer to the phone, so I decided to stick it in the Express Card slot of my laptop. Simple enough, right?

....Well being the incredibly smart person that I am, I put the micro memory card in the adapter, but it was the wrong one. So my computer pretty much swallowed it whole. I can't get it back out.
Now I can't use the Express Card slot in my computer AT ALL, because the old one is still stuck in there. You can't really see it, but if you try to put another adapter in there, it won't "click". It won't go all the way because ... the old one I lost is still in there waiting to be rescued, haha.

So my question is: How do I get the memory card out of my computer??

I tried taking it apart, but I couldn't get the part of where the express card slot is, so that was no good. There's a way to do this, I know. I'm just not smart enough to figure it out on my own. Which is probably a good thing, because I might mess it up again, lol.

I have a Toshiba Satellite A215-S7416 laptop.
Any help is appreciated!

Thanks!

-Ashley

I would like to be able to boot my X1 Carbon 2017 5th Gen using Ubuntu installed on a microSD card.  I've spent time trying to figure this out and googling, but haven't been successful.  I would prefer this rather than Ubuntu on a USB stick for battery savings as well as covenience.  Any ideas or suggestions on how I can make this work?

Answer:Boot X1 Carbon 5th Gen using Ubuntu on MicroSD card

Good day.

This question comes up from time to time. In each case, the conclusion is that it's not possible due to the way the internal card slot interfaces with the system. If you'd like to scan through other members' experiences, you could use the search box on the upper right with: "boot sd card" for key words. A good number of suggested threads were shown when I tried just now.Regards.

Question: MicroSD Card Lock

I recently bought a Toshiba MicroSD 4GB Card for my cell phone. I'm wondering if there's any way to lock the contents of the card, when it's inserted into the computer, from anyone without the password.

Hello. I have a Lenovo ideapad 100s - 80R2 that I just bought a few years ago. The device is running Windows 10 Home, build 1511. I have recently bought a Sandisk 32GB microSDHC card for use of the built-in microSD card slot of the device. When I tried to insert the card into the slot, there was not "Hardware Insert" notification sound coming out of Windows. I thought the card wasn't working. When I managed to insert the card into a USB microSD card reader, the system was able to detect the card, so it means it's working fine, but the microSD card isn't. I tried to find any updates for the SD card controller of the device, but it says it's already the latest version. Any help?

i have a 32GB microSD card that i was using in my Samsung Galaxy S3 replica (it says "Spreadtrum" when i plug it to the computer) for several months without a problem. the phone is on Android 4.0.3, unrooted.

ISSUE:
as i was downloading a video file the phone suddenly reset and when it powered back on it kept saying "Insert SD card" in notifications.

ATTEMPTED FIXES SO FAR:
1. i powercycled it a few times, still the same message.
2. i then swapped out the card with a 4GB i had lying around and it worked fine.
3. then i put the 32BD card back in and got the error again, so now i'm currently using the 4GB.
4. i connected the 32GB card to my PC using a card reader. drive F: comes up when i do that, but when i click on it i get "Please insert a disk into Removable Drive F:" :..( under Properties, the size of the drive is coming up as 0 bytes.
5. i tried changing the drive name > doesn't help
6. tried cmd > CHKDSK > "Cannot open volume for direct access"
7. tried looking around online for data recovery software

Answer:phone and PC wont recognize microSD card

You can give this a try.

http://www.cgsecurity.org/wiki/TestDisk and then if that works you try using, http://www.cgsecurity.org/wiki/PhotoRec as they both kind of work together.

The download link is here.

Hi, does anyone know if there is a list of compatible embedded LTE chips that will work on a X1 Carbon 20FB?  The reason why I ask this is bec the current model, EM7455, only operates at some frequencies that some abroad contries do not support and the older models such as the EM7355 support those frequencies.  One being GSM.  I tired to install a EM7355 into my 20FB laptop but the bios isn't allowing it. Thanks!

Answer:X1 Carbon 20FB Embedded LTE Compatibility

EM7455 is versatile enough and supports a lot of 4G/LTE including LTE-A and 3G bands worldwide. It does not support 2G (GPRS/EDGE) access technology.

I recently got a X1 carbon 4th gen (20FB), and I have been super happy with its performance. However, it seems like whenever I have the laptop closed, the keyboard is leaving a mark on the screen. I sent it to repair, and they changed the screen, but that didn't seem to fix it. I noticed that the body and the lid are not perfectly aligned - one of the corners of the lid seems to be jutting out a little bit with respect to the rest of the body. I've attached picture to show this. I'm not sure if this is a part of the general design of the Carbon.  Can anyone with a X1 carbon 4th gen confirm that this alignment feature is not present in their machine? Thank you ?

We've purchased about 2 dozen 4th gen x1 carbons, machine type 20fb, and have been having some intermittent keyboard issues with multiple laptops.  At least 3 different units have had problems where the keyboard doesn't seem to work at all.  After power on, we press F12, F1, or Enter to try and access different functions, but they have no effect.  Once windows loads, we still can't type anything.   The first time my tech ran into this, he rebooted a few times and was still experiencing the same issue, he set the laptop aside for me to look at.  When I turned it on, they keyboard was functioning normally.  Later, after loading our image on the computer, he was preparing to deploy it to a user when the keyboard stopped working again. I fired up a new laptop this morning, fresh out of the box, and had the same issue, a non-functional keyboard.  In this case at least, the touchpoint/touchpad didn't work either.  I rebooted, tried to get into UEFI config, and after a couple of more reboots I tried pxe booting, but nothing I pressed on the keyboard seemed to help.  I turned the laptop off and put a note on it that it had a bad keyboard, but when my tech came in and turned it on a couple of hours later, they keyboard is working fine.   I've got one in front of me right now that was working this morning, but now the touchpad/point aren't responding.  Keyboard is working though.  L... After we restart the computer, the audio will again work and play to the speakers. Windows 7 X64 Any help or thoughts on this is greatly appreciated.  Thanks,John

Hi, I've got an X1 Carbon 20FB (4th gen), and noticed it doesn't have Lenovo System Update on it, which I've found useful in the past. So I went to the Lenovo downloads site and found System Update, but it doesn't list the 20FB as one of the X1 Carbons it supports - it only goes up to 20BS, 20BT: http://support.lenovo.com/se/en/products/laptops-and-netbooks/thinkpad-x-series-laptops/thinkpad-x1-... (See the "Note for ThinkPad X1 Carbon users") Should I avoid downloading System Update then? I've not noticed anything that's not functioning, but I figured it makes sense to keep things up to date from a security and features point of view. Why is it not included by default? Thanks for any advice!

The cover for the SD slot cover for my X1 Carbon broke when I opened the lid today. I tried checking the parts list, but I couldn't find something that made it obvious which part it was. I saw that it's part of the entire base, but that seems a bit overkill for just the cover. Does anyone know what the part number for this is? For refernce, it's in this picture next to #1: http://support.lenovo.com/en_GR/product-and-parts/detail.page?&DocID=PD025207

Answer:Extra hard drive for X1 Carbon 4th Gen (20FB)

The X1 Carbon 4th Gen doesn't have an mSATA slot. While it has an M.2 2242 slot for the WWAN card, you can't use this slot for an SSD.

If you just want to expand the storage of your device, I'd suggest to replace the 128 GB SSD with a larger M:2 2280 SSD.

Hi, trying to get a Windows 7 Install done on a Carbon X1 2016 20FB w/ Samsung950 Pro. Bios 1.14 (latest as of May 2016)Special issue is, I need to get it done in a Legacy mode (BIOS,MFT style). I was able to install Win7 based on a win7 image that got the 950pro drivers and the USB3 drivers infused through NTLITE, and then I build an image with Rufus 2.9 (both UEFI/GPT and UEFI/MFT) worked, with the X1 BIOS was set up to UEFI only with CSM.BUT I need to to run on the BIOS setting 'Legacy' and in MFT style, b'cause the special Win7 installer I need to use does not support anything else. I know, sounds weird, but..... . So- is there a fundamental limitation against booting / installing a Win7 on a Carbon X1 2016 20FB - Samsung950 Pro in Legacy 7 MFT mode?

Hey, About a week ago I came back from vacation, Jan 20-29, and I installed a bunch of updates through the lenovo service center. A couple days later I noticed the fingerprint scanner had stopped working and a couple of days ago I noticed my usb ports weren't working either, with several usb drives that I had proven functional on a friends computer. After reinstalling some BIOS and usb drivers I have solved the usb problem, and I'm almost positive the fingerprint scanner is the result of some software. The timing is way too convenient to be anything else in my opinion. When trying to set up fingerprints through the "fingerprint enrollment" window it'll say "Cannot communicate with the sensor, please confirm the sensor is ready." Any and all suggestions are welcome. Morten Nissov

We've got about 2 dozen of the 4th gen x1 carbons, machine type 20FB, and have had a high number of display related issues with them.  At the moment, we have 3 sitting upstairs waiting for UPS to pick up for shipment to lenovo service, and one more on my desk that was just acting up.  I'm told that we have previously sent in at least another 3 or 4 laptops for similar issues.  I understand that those previous laptops had the displays replaced, and that we have yet to see a recurrence of the issues in one that has been repaired. The problems we've seen are intermittent, and generally fall into one of two categories:FlickeringVideo garbled, missing sections, or complete garbage.  The flickering is sometimes very faint, barely noticable, but other times it's more pronounced, bad enough that users complain of headaches and/or "it's going to cause seizures!" The garbage video issue is what I just saw with the laptop sitting on my desk.  It went to sleep, and when I woke it up, this was what I saw:? After a few moments, the laptop rebooted on it's own and the display was back to normal, but I don't want to send this out with a user now just to get a support call when it happens again. Is anyone else having this sort of issue?  Or did we just particularly unlucky?

Hello,I love my X1 Carbon 4Gen 20FB (using Windows 7). Except the Trackpad. I had may Thinkpads before and external Keyboards like P/N 02R0406.All had very sensible Trackpads one can work with with a very light push. This one is very hard to use, very unsensible. On top, the Synaptics driver does not allow to adjust the sensibility or speed in the Mouse Properties (V 19.0.17.115). I tried the Workarounf from 'Alexander C' - but then precision gets worse. Is this a driver bug or a hardware issue? Hi folks, We have several Lenovo X1 Carbon 20FB Windows 10 Pro laptops.  More than one of them experience WiFi connection issues. Specifically and consistently when we move from room to room on our floor.  Even if connect automatically is checked, when we get to the destination, we may get connected to the AP, but unable to access anything, until we disable/enable the WiFi adapter.  This happens everyday, everytime.  I've been in the habit of disconnecting before I move. All other WiFi devices, phones, do not experience this issue. Anyone hear about this?

Hello, I have this problem for month now :I close my X1 Carbon lid before going to bed, and in the morning, when I resume it from hibernation, the trackapd and trackpoint are totally unresponsive. Everything else work fine, I just have to wait, sometimes 20/30sec, sometimes a whole minute, to have the trackpad working. This is very frustrating to have a computer resuming so fast from hibernation but being unable to use it. I have the latest BIOS (1.15), latest UltraNav driver (19.0.17.98).Tried several drivers uninstallation/reinstallation, several fresh windows install, problem is still present. Actually on a fresh install of Windows 10 64bit (Anniversary update).

It reported there were no updates. However, after digging a bit deeper, I discovered that the SSD firmware updater for the X1 Carbon 20A7/20A8/etc. DOES have an update for the SSD in this machine. What is going on here? Does this firmware update somehow only apply when the SSD is installed in a 20A7? Or did this particular model of SSD just get missed when Lenovo was putting together the firmware update package for the 20FB?

Hi, I updated my X1 Carbon 4th gen to 1.17 BIOS, and since then, opening the lid won't wake the computer from hibernation, except when plugged.Bios changelog states Disabled the power button when the computer is in battery mode and the
computer lid is closedbut when I read "power button", I don't think "this is gonna break the behavior of the lid". And of course, no rollback is possible from 1.17, so I'm stuck with a computer wich won't wake from hibernation correctly. I just can advise you all to not upgrade bios, and see what's inside the next version...

My Thinkpad X1 Carbon 4th 20FB with Win10 was working fine with Photoshop when it had Intel HD Graphics Driver - 10 [64] V21.20.16.4550 Using the Lenovo Companion, I let it upgrade the graphics driver to V21.20.16.4718 back in late July.  Immediately after this upgrade, Photoshop no longer rendered images properly, making it useless.  Images that are opened do not appear on the screen and the UI is jumbled.  I reverted to driver v21.20.16.4550 through Companion as that version was still listed, and everything was fine again.  I noticed the other day upon opening Photoshop that I had the rendering problem again.  I checked my graphics driver version in Device Manager, and somehow it updated to v22.20.16.4785 (although I cannot figure out how, as Lenovo Companion does not show an update to this version in its history, and neither does Windows Update). All I want to do is rollback my graphics driver to v21.20.16.4550, which I know works.  But this is not an option any longer in Companion, and this version is not present on the Lenovo website either.  Obtaining this version through 3rd party websites is not Lenovo specific and refuses to install. Please provide me a link or a place to go where I can get Intel HD Graphics Driver - 10 [64] V21.20.16.4550

Answer:Thinkpad X1 Carbon 4th 20FB Graphics Driver Problem

You should still be able to revert to the older driver via Device Manager. Right-click on Start and select Device ManagerLeft-click on Display Adapters to expandRight-click on your Intel HD Graphics adapter and select PropertiesSelect the Driver tab and then select Update DriverSelect Browse my computer for driver softwareSelect Let me pick from a list of available drivers on my computerSelect the older driver version, and then click Next to installBest of luck,

Hi, I bought an X1 Carbon 20FB a few days ago. Since I want to use it for work, I need to change the machine type from 20FB to 20FC. Does anybody know a way to change machine type? I tried already the bios update utility but it only allows to change the machine serial number, not the machine type. Thank you!

Answer:X1 Carbon change Machine Type 20FB 20FC

Hello and welcome to the CommunityLet me ask you - why do you need this operation? Machine-Type means "laptop platform". I hope you haven't replaced the systemboard in new machine.

Just got my brand new X1 Carbon (4gen 2016/20FB) with the 512 GB PCIe NVMe SSD (THNSN5512GPU7). Was expecting a blazing fast disk, but it felt sluggish something that AS SSD Benchmark confirms (see attachment). According to the specs this drive should offer up to 2400 Mb/s read and 1500 Mb/s write. But I get 1800 MB/s read and abysmal 113 MB/s write. The machine has all the latest updates from Lenovo (incl BIOS) and all the drivers for Windows 10. Anyone else tested their drives? Found a Dell XPS owner with the same drive that complained about the same issue. Turning off windows write cache buffer flushing does help, but that is not a good answer.

Hi, the power options sets that the display should turn off in X minutes. But it doesn't do it at all. Instead, the computer is locked and the display dimms.  I'm pretty sure that I have installed the latest monitor and graphic card driver. Hi all, I have the X1 Carbon 2016 (20FB) and it is running Windows 10 Enterprise. I have all the lastest Windows and Lenovo updates. It all works pretty well except when it comes to starting back from sleep mode. I have the laptop configured to go to sleep when I close the lid. However when I reopen the lid, the power button and keyboard lights come on but the display stays off. Opening and closing the several times doesn't help. The only way to get the display to turn on is to quickly press the power button. This puts the laptop to sleep. If I press the power button again the laptop comes back to life and the display works again. Anyone else have this issue? Any possible solutions? Thanks,Ian

Question: microSD slot

I recently bought a microSD card, 2GB, and when I try to open it on my computer it asks me to format it, and I do. But then it says cannot format the disk and leaves me with a headache. What I am trying to do is to put some songs on it and then put the songs on my phone but even if I drag and drop it on the SD drive nothing shows up on my phone.

Answer:microSD slot

You have to format the SD card in the phone.

What is the maximum bus speed the Ideapad 100s-11 microSD slot provides.  Is it running off of a USB 2 bus or just what?   Some newer microSD cards have very fast read and write speeds but those speeds are dependent on the slot being able to support those speeds.  My question is what bus is the Ideapad's bus running on and what is it's maximum capability. The reason for this question is noone wants to purchase some expensive super fast microSD card only to find out the slot limits the speed. Thanks

I am looking for support regarding my S21e-20 - after upgrading to Windows 10, I cannot use my MicroSD reader... I've tried installing most of the drivers available on the support pages (http://support.lenovo.com/us/en/products/laptops-and-netbooks/lenovo-s-series-laptops/s21e-20/280m4?... but it does not solve the problem. The device manager keeps showsing missing drivers for a "PCI Device" - since I did not discover any of the other devices to misbehave, I assume that the missing drivers are exactly the drivers for the MicroSD slot. Could you, please, provide me a link to the driver which is responsible for the proper functioning of the MicroSD card slot. Just for your information: the unrecognized device in the Device Manager has the following "Physical Device Object Name": \Device\NTPNP_PCI0010 and the "Device Instant Path" is the following: PCI\VEN_10EC&DEV_5229&SUBSYS_380517AA&REV_01\4&9763F65&0&00E1 .Am I right in assuming that it's the MicroSD slot? Thank you in advance for your help.

a pci-e (express) card ? see the photo on this site click hereDon't know if your motherboard supports pci-e. Otherwise you probably need an AGP card.

Just FYI, My Edge 15" (and probably yours too) will not boot up or restart if you happen to leave an SD card in the card reader slot.  I thought I had a serious problem until I realized I had left my SD card in the slot. This probably needs a BIOS fix in my opinion.  I cannot find any way to set the BIOS to boot from an SD card if I wanted to, so the card slot should probably just be disabled during the bootup sequence. .. Or better yet, the card slot should be recognized by the BIOS so that you could put it in whatever boot sequence order you wanted or eliminate it yourself from the boot sequence. ... but the current status seems silly to allow an SD card to completely disable the bootup. I've seen a couple of reasonable and logical requests for stuff that probably should have been put in the Edge BIOS ages ago in testing.  None of those requests get reviewed, and I'm sure this one wont either. So there ya have it.  Don't forget to remove your SD card!

Answer:Edge wont boot with SD card in slot (probably needs a BIOS fix)

Hey there, TEMPEST, thanks for your post. I also was wondering why my Edge 15 kept hanging with a blinking cursor at boot.I also forgot my SD-Card in the slot. But, really, this shouldn't stop the system from booting up. Lenovo should consider fixing this in a BIOS update. Is there any comment from the staff? Anyone?

I have a dell 1300 inspiron laptop and i have just connected my main pc to the orange broadband with their livebox wireles modem. now i am trying to get a wireless connection working with my father's laptop. the problem is that the network card wont go into the slot. it's the same width and it looks as though it should fit but it only pushes in about halfway and then i encounter resistance. i obviously dont want to push it too hard for fear of breaking something. i cannot find any information about this and Dell technical support is a nightmare. Why wont the card go in? it's a brand new card and the laptop is only 3 months old.

Hello,
I just got a Asus A8N-SLI mother board and a pny 7800gt video card. The card only works in the bottom pci express slot though, when i try to plug into the top the monitor light keeps blinking like nothings going through. Everything seems to work fine when in the bottom slot but i am worried about the heat. I have my sound card close to that so theres not much flow between like their would be in the top slot. (also the top slot is blue, bottom is black, if that makes a difference) I left the default set at single card mode on the motherboard. Also being in that slot is the card running at full capacity? 16x?
My other specs are:
1gb Corsair value select ram
Antec 450Watt SmartPower 2.0 PSU
AMD 64 3700

thanks

Answer:Video card wont work in top PCI Express slot on sli board

mmm... Check out the BIOS option for the SLI cause it could be that just one slot is enabled (the bottom on)...
about the heat issue... can you move the sound card to another slot?...

Hello, I have just gotten a T61P with a Smart Card Slot.  Is it possible to replace this with an Express Card Slot? I have looked at the parts lists and can see no differences in Motherboard or Bottom Case part numbers for a 6457-8LU ( which I have, and has a Smart Card Slot ) and a 6457-8Jx ( which has an Express Card Slot ). Looking at the FRU Manual, it looks like an involved process to get to the Card Slot, but I think I could handle it.  ( Electronics Tech for more years than I like to think about  :-)  ) Any input would be appreciated! Regards Michael

Does it matter which PCI-E X16 slot you use? My board has 2 full X16 slots and I want to run my GTX590 lower down in the case to move it away from my soundcard.

Here's my board

Also does anyone have any experience running sound cards ect. in full size PCI-E X16 slots? they obviously don't engage the clips on the socket but do they still work?

I've never had reason to try either of these configurations and my computer is in pieces ATM while I'm upgrading it so I have no way to test for any problems but everything I've read on the subject so far says there shouldn't be any problems with either of afore mentioned configurations.

Thanks

So far what i have read is PCI card type II are different from Express card. I just need to know what my machine supports, a 54mm card or 34 mm card, 16 bit or 32 bit, i just don't know, i need to buy an adapter for esata interface to connect my NAS via esata to my laptop for greater speeds.

Answer:Re: Satellite M60-104 PCI card Slot or Express Card Slot?

Did you take a look into the user manual?
There are all the details about the M60 series.

But as far as I know the M60-104 unit supports the Cardbus 32-Bit/PC-Card 16-Bit slot.
So you could use 1x PCMCIA Type-II only and 1x ExpressCard.

please help me out, i know absolutely nothing about computers and i have a few problems with my cell phone and micro sd card. i'd realllly appreciate it if anyone can answer any of these questions. thanks in advance!1.) i, like the idiot i am, just recieved my sandisk microsd card in the mail. i went to kind of test it out and see how it went into the adapter, so i slid it in. now it wont come out. the switch on the side is up, away from the "lock" label, and i still dont know how to get it out of the adapter. its so small and i dont want to force it out.2.) once i get it out, i'll probably need a microsd reader. there are different kinds from sandisk, which one is easiest to use?3.) the purpose for me getting these things is for my phone, an LG cu500 cell phone from cingular. i want to put music from my laptop onto my cell, and get the videos/photos off my cell onto my laptop so i can upload onto youtube or whatever. if anyone can give me step by step instructions to do this so i don't cause anymore damage, that would be fantastic!

Answer:how to use a microsd card?

i'm pretty sure you shoved it in the wrong way.you do need an SD reader for SD cards. they are fairly cheap, and can usually be plugged into a usb port. apart from that, i don't know enough about them to recommend one, i myself would just go for whatever would work and last a decent amount of time, and doesn't cost me an arm and a leg.

I have a AMD 7870 Dual slot video card on my Asus M5A99X-Evo Motherboard. It is installed in the first 16x slot...and I also have a PCI-e 1x XF-I Titanium Sound card. The problem I am having is that one of the 1x slots is covered by the video card, and the 2nd one is open, but right smack below the Video card. My Video card is the Sapphire 7870 GHz Edition non OC.. Attached is a picture of what I am trying to explain. My other question is: Will this cause issues since one of the GPU fans is semi covered? Its it recommended? Last question: If I move this to one of the 8x slots below on my motherboard, will it cause my 16x PCI-E slot to slow down? Thanks ahead of time for any help you can provide.

Answer:Question about PCI-e slot below dual slot video card

My opinion ...

Yes, setting up like that will have an impact. The air flow to your GPU will be restricted so it will more than likely run hotter than it did. It may still stay withing recommended specs, but it will run hotter.

The motherboard has onboard sound (Realtek® ALC892 8-Channel High Definition Audio CODEC ), any particular reason why you don't use that? Onboard sound is perfectly good for gaming and the like now, its not like older machines where you needed a dedicated card for decent quality. In my opinion, you only need a dedicated card if you are doing a lot of detailed audio work (mixing, remastering and other specific audio work). This would totally remove the issue.

I had been reading the new review of the T470 from Notebookcheck and something caught my eye; they specifically mention more than once that the WWAN slot can be used for an SSD; http://www.notebookcheck.net/Lenovo-ThinkPad-T470-Core-i5-Full-HD-Notebook-Review.198130.0.html"Between the WiFi module and the 2.5-inch slot is also a free M.2-2242 slot, which can either be used for a WWAN module (antennas prepared) or an SSD""The available storage solutions for the ThinkPad T470 are quite interesting. Inside the chassis is a 2.5-inch slot attached via PCIe x2. This slot can either be equipped with a conventional 2.5-inch hard drive (HDD or SSD, up to 7 mm high) or an M.2-SSD (2280), which is sitting in the 2.5-inch tray via adapter. It is also possible to implement another SSD in the M.2-2242 slot. Lenovo's spec sheet, for example, lists a 128 GB model or Intel's Optane solution (16 GB), which can act as cache in combination with a conventional hard drive."I'm hesitant to assume this will apply to the new X1 since it doesn't have an option for HDD and therefore no need to configure the WWAN port to support an SSD for caching. Can anybody test/confirm this? I've read documentation on the new X1 Spec sheet and hardware maintenance and it mentions nothing about support for additional devices in the WWAN slot. I'd kill to be able to have a separate SSD for a linux install so I don't have to mess with bootloaders every time windows has a major update.

My micro sd card stopped working tried everything I could think of. it was working fine then it stopped working. Think it might be corrupted. when you plop it in it won't mount and will ask you to format and when I format windows says it can't

ran a block check and it seems fine I think it can't write because I opened the partion table and won't let me delete it.

The little switch is in the unlock position of the SD card adapter. I have tried both with the SD card adapter and a micro SD to USB adapter as well as in my tablet (Windows 8.1)

Don't have that much experience with sd cards any suggestions

Answer:Having issues with a microsd card

What is that block check and how did you do it?

Can you post a screenshot of Windows Disk management to see how the microSD card looks in it?

I have a 2GB microSD card and a kingston MicroSD adapter i use to plug it into my comp.

problem is that when i plug it in,it works great. Then after i right click the drive and choose to safely remove hardware it tells me its safe to remove and i pull it out.But when i try to put it back in again it wont try to read it anymore and i have to restart my computer for it to work normally again.

Even though after i choose to safely remove the drive letter it was in goes away, when i go into device manager, one of my usb controller ports has the ! by it and says "Windows cannot use this hardware device because it has been prepared for "safe removal", but it has not been removed from the computer. (Code 47)"

Well, its been removed, and put back in and I've thad device manager scan for hardware changes but nothing changes.Even tried going ahead and unplugging all my other stuff from my computer to no avail

Any ideas or workarounds from having to restart my comp¿ thanks.

Hi I have an HPE 410t desktop PC that is going on six years and would like to know how to boot off of a MicroSD card. I am able to boot from a USB flash drive by pressing and holding down the ESC key at bootup to select boot device and my USB flash drive appears in the list of bootable devices but my microsd card does not appear in this list. Is there anyway I can boot from the microsd card on this computer? Thanks.

Answer:How can I boot from a MicroSD Card?

bert6822 Sorry, but you can only boot off devices that appear in the boot selection menu. If it's not listed there, it can't be use to boot -- and SD cards are a common problem in this respect. However, there are microSD-to-USB adapters (I have one for my cards), and if you can find one of those, you might be able to boot using a USB port.Good Luck

So I have a Sandisk 32gb class 4 SDHC card and it won't show up in Explorer, Disk Management or even when using list disk in the command prompt. There are also no errors in the event viewer either when I insert it. It makes a sound when inserting it and removing it into my Asus Windows 8.1 laptop, but that is probably because it's in a micro SD to SD adapter. When I insert the damaged micro SD card into my Android tablet, it recognizes that a card has been inserted, yet when I go to storage options and try to mount the card it doesn't work. I click on mount card and it tries to mount for a moment but it's not successful. Is this thing dead? or any other ideas or utilities I can use to get this thing going again? Thanks

Answer:Is my MicroSD card recoverable?

Yes, it is recoverable.

Hello, i have this little thing : . I have a microsd card with it. It all started off yesterday, before that everything was fine. I putted it in my pc and was adding about 100 files to a 2gb microsd card. Then the window said "not responding". I spammed the "x" to close it, and then said that explorer.exe crashed. I restarted the pc, and I went to "my computer" but it wasn't there. I took it out, putted it in again, no luck. I was putting it in and out, cleaning it etc and still no luck. I reformated my windows, and it came up. I clicked to see the files inside, but it said "please put a disk into the..." bla bla bla. So i went to computer management to reformat it. But then when i went to disk management it didnt show up anything. I'm really confused now. I dont want to buy another one of these. I tried it on the laptop and the laptop bsod.

problems same as mine: http://answers.yahoo.com/question/in...9065113AAHxO8F

Hi,

Just a quick note, have you tried it in a different USB port to see if it may be the port that's faulty?

My MicroSD card used to work fine in my motorola moto x play, formatted as internal storage (with android 6.0.1). Suddenly, it stopped working. I tried reinserting the card many times, but it still said it was missing. So, accepting the fact that all my data was long gone, I plugged that sucker into my PC and tried to reformat it. I first used the Disk Management thing to try to wipe and reformat it, but it wouldn't work (when I right-click on the volume, the only option that comes up is 'delete volume', which it doesn't even do (I tried it). I then downloaded MiniTool Partition tool, which didn't work for it either. THen, I tried SDFormatter, to the same result. I then tried M3 Data Recovery, to the same result. I forgot to mention: when I plug the SD card into my PC, it makes the noise that windows makes when you connect a USB, but nothing shows up, and it is not assigned a drive letter in Disk Management. I'm at a complete loss as to how to fix this, and don't want to buy another SD card (I've bought three already - the one I use now is formatted as external storage, because the second one corrupted itself, too. To make matters worse, I have to reboot my phone a couple times a day so that my phone will actually recognise the fact that it's there).
So, to recap; My SD card is corrupt, and needs fixing, and my phone is being terrible with any SD card I use with it. Please help (I understand that you'll need more information, ... Read more

Hi all,

I have a Micro SD card (4GB). When I put it to my computer (windows 7 ultimate 32-bit) from USB port, I can't access into it. And writes "Removable disk G:" (like below image) and doesn't show other specifications of that volume. And when I double click on it, a pop up window appears and says "Please insert a disk into removable disk G:". I used some commands line "chkdsk /f G:" in command prompt window, but it also writes "can not open volume for direct access". And also right click does not work on that volume for format it. In the command prompt also formatting results the same for chkdsk /f g: as message unfortunately.

Is there any way to access into that volume?
Thank you.

Answer:Cannot access to a MicroSD card

Is "removable disk G" there all the time? Often times card readers just show up in My Computer whether anything is in there or not.

What happens if you remove and insert the card while having Disk Management open? Does anything change in there?

Can you connect the device that uses the card to the computer through a USB cord? Is the card readable that way?

If those all fail, then, I'd suggest finding out what card reader it is and downloading the drivers for it (just in case) and then deleteing it through device manager and rebooting.

I know... but I get these things for free, and use them to distribute sensitive information between doctors and hospitals and patients. I never see them again (the SD cards) i use them for a one-off throw-away distribution medium. However, I have one that is being stubborn. Current read-only State is stuck in YES.

I am running diskpart 6.3.9600 on Windows 8.1

Any suggestions? These old buggers are getting scarce, and I'd like to use what I have.

Hello,

So one morning I put some music on my microSD card. The card was inserted in my Samsung Galaxy SII Android phone (it has been in there since Christmas) and the phone was connected to my Windows 8 PC via a USB cable.

I transferred the music directly to the card as it has always came up as a separate drive when I plugged my phone into the computer.

When the transfer was done, I right clicked on the drive and ejected it as I have always done. I verified that the music was on the phone and went to work.

I am not sure what my phone was doing that day, but it felt really hot and the battery drained really fast.

When I tried to listen to the music on my break, but the music was not listed on my list of songs/artists, but the music was still available in the file browser.

Then later all my apps that were saved on the SD card were not there, nor my pictures or music that was on the SD card...

I connected my phone to the computer and it recognized the phone internal storage, but the SD card did not appear. I tried putting the SD card in my Motorola Xoom table (also Android) and it did not recognize it. I tried putting the card in my wife's BlackBerry and it did not recognize it.

I put the card in a Multi card reader and tried it in every USB slot in the computer and it is not recognized (other microSD cards are recognized when used in the card reader).

My assumption is that my phone must have fried the microSD card? Does this sound familiar to anyone? Is there... Read more

hi there,
i need to know which know which graphic card will fit for my computer. Ie i want to know which type: DDR ,DDR1 or ddr2 i bought my computer in 2007, but thats not enough to tell.
so please let me know how do i know which pci slot i have?

Answer:which graphic card slot do i require for my PCI slot

The type of memory doesn't matter, its the type of interface the computer supports among a few other things to watch for.

You likely have a PCI-Express slot, as long as it a x16 slot it doesn't really matter if its a version 1.1 or 2.0 slot.

Is this for your Dell or another computer? Whats you budget and what needs do you have for the video card?
