I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I cant replicate the problem when the laptop is off of the Docking station, but today I have tried to wake up my laptop on the station and three times now it just sits on the splash screen.  I have not installed any new hardware, software, or updated anything from lenovo.   I'm not sure what is going on.

The newly bought 6 months old Lenovo X1 Carbon 2nd Gen frequently crashes when it is left unattended for 10-15 min when it is connected to the external Lenovo monitor. I gues it has something to do with monitor turning off settings but can't fihure it out, it is stupid that I see blue screen so frequently because the system can't figure out how to turn off the external display... lost so much work and so very much disappointed at both Lenovo and Microsoft... I had an X220 which I loved but next time I am going for a Mac! - a very disappointed customer

HELP....I have a Lenovo G550 that is running Windows7 and has been for several months! Anyway, it will connect to the internet via wireless, but it only stays connected for a few minutes. I have other computers in the house and they remain connected, so that leads me to believe it's not the router.

Thus far I've done a few odds and ends suggested on other sites to eliminate my problem, like taking the battery out for 30 minutes, changing the power setting....I ran spybot to see if there was some bug lurking around and none of that helped.

Answer:HELP...Lenovo G550 won't stay connected

How does it work with an ethernet connection?

Do you have the latest wireless driver from the external adapter manufacturer's web site or Lenova's site if an integrated adapter?

Please attach a screen shot of the Networks page of the Xirrus Wi-Fi Inspector.

I hope someone can help me with this. I work from home (office is 70 miles away), and my Lenovo T420 Win7 will not stay connected via WiFi to my Verizon MI424WR ver I router. I had this problem with my old router (MI242WR rev E), and I was able to fix it by turning off the Power Management option to "power off to save power" My Lenovo is using Centrino Advanced-N 6205 Wifi chip. It reads as "working properly".

It seem obvious that there is an issue between the Lenovo and the new MI424. I have 10 other devices connecting to the MI424 without a problem. I have shut down devices to ensure that their is not an over burdening the AP issue.

Specifically, the Lenovo successfully pairs with the MI424, tries to establish an Internet connection, fails, and drops the connection (or the router does - I assume it is the laptop.) It's worked great for about 4 hours this am, then it quit working. I:

- shutdown the laptop, pulled power and battery
- shut off the network, pulled the plug and let it sit for a while
- restarted everything and the issue will not go away

It works fine @ work with a Cisco Network.

My company uses some McAfee SW for laptop security. Since I was blissfully working for hours and this just started up, I do not think that has anything to do with it. But who knows? Any ideas?

Answer:Work Lenovo Laptop will not stay connected on my Home Network

OK, I just thought of something. The problem started at the same time I powered up my wife's new iPad4. So, after turning off the iPad 4, I was able to log on. Since I completely bounced the network (unplugged and left unplugged the MI242WR), I would think that would release all the IP addresses in the router. I am back to work, and afraid to turn the iPad back on.

HI all, I have a lenovo laptop that is almost exactly a year old and it WILL NOT stay connected to the internet neither by wifi nor LAN. It will connect sometimes for 10 mins, sometimes for ten seconds. I can turn the computer off, restart it, close all other programs, diagnose connection, disable and restart adapters, nothing works for very long. I dont believe it is the internet as my Xbox, my desktop and my phone all connect fine through both wireless and wired connections. There are also two other laptops on the house that connect just fine (not windows 7 machines tho) my desktop is also windows 7 and sporadically has this problem as well. I have tried going to barnes and noble and starbucks to try different internet and still the same thing happens. Very Frustrating, please help if you can

Answer:Lenovo laptop REFUSES to stay connected to internet(wifi AND lan)

Hello and welcome heavy mate have you checked the driver for the adaptor in Device Manager?

Lenovo G570Model 4334 Hi Whenever i switch on my laptop it stays on the Lenovo start up screen for about 30 seconds, and then powers off. During the 30 seconds the laptop fans runs louder than usual but nothing else happens. Ocassionally it does get past that stage but then takes a long time on the 'starting windows' screen. I've used the onekey recovery to return it to my backup and even returned it to the factory settings but the problem persists. I'm unsure of what to next and how the problem can be solved. Any Suggestions? Thanks.

Answer:Lenovo G570 - Stays on Lenovo start up screen, then powers off

try to load safe mode when you see lenovo logo at start-up. ( f8 )if it works, press f8 again to load "last known good configuration"otherwise, check your ram sticks ( remove/replace/swap ) and check if your hdd is working properly.do you have any heating issue by the way? did you make changes recently?

Hi I have purchased an additional external battery. On my battery monitor it shows Battey 1 and Battery 2 I believe it's referring to the actual battery and the external battery When I charge with the AC mains it says 50% charging. When I remove the AC charger it shows both batteries 100% charged Sorry it may be a stupid question but I am confused why it says 50% charge when I use the AC charger when both batteries are 100% charged Thank you

Hi, I'm just wondering if anybody here had tried to use their Y580 connecting to an external FHD 23" external monitor while disabling the notebook LCD? Does the performance still the same? Thanks.

Answer:PERFORMANCE OF LENOVO Y580 WHEN CONNECTED TO FHD EXTERNAL MONITOR

Which type of performance are you talking about? Is it gaming, quality, resolution or some other aspect. In actual there would be no affect on gaming or quality but there might be a slight affect in the resolution but it wouldnt matter. Also you could try using HDMI ti connect for getting the best results.

I bought a Lenovo Z580 7 months ago. It has been getting hotter than usual lately, especially when I plug it into my new external monitor(24" Acer HD Monitor). I was doing some light gaming yesterday (9 year old game), and the cpu temperature was averaging around 80+ degrees, reaching a max temp of 90 after 30-60 mins. I have a feeling that the thermal paste may need to be replaced, however I can not do this without voiding the warranty of the laptop. I may get some compressed air and try and clean out the fans. I have 5 months left on my warranty, should I send in the laptop for thermal paste to be re-applied?

A friend of mine asked me to look at his old XP machine because it simply will not fully startup. It does make it through the initial boot routine and the "Windows XP" splash screen appears but, shortly after that, the screen goes black. All you can see is a black screen with a white cursor in the middle of it. The system does not respond to mouse or keyboard input.

I used a Hiren's Boot CD boot disk to look around his system. He has about 40% free space left on the hard drive which seems to function correctly. I am presently running a virus scan (via the Hiren's Boot CD).

I've never seen an XP machine do this so I'm not sure what is going on. I believe he is running SP3 but I'm not certain of this because I can get it fully loaded to check.

Any help would be appreciated.

Answer:Windows XP Will Not Start - XP Spash Screen Then Black Screen

Can you boot into SAFE mode? If you can, try updating the video driver for starters.

Hello everyone,I have an X230 and I need to upgrade the laptop to something with an i7 and 32GB RAM.I am very happy with my X230, but I have to change it. From the product page is looks like the X260/X270 have only 1 SODIMM slot. Dear, I am an IT guy at a MNC and I ordered three X270 in Auguest from a Lenovo re-tailer.after I received them from the vendor, I noticed that I could hear loud fan noise that was usual compared to x250, 260 and even x270 that I purchased a few month ago while I was configuring outlook,. The 3 laptops have been making almost the same level of noise while it's running just windows.  I did not install anything and I ordered them with win 10 pro and outlook was installed as default. Users keep complaining about it cause they used to use x250 but it didn't make the noise like this. the bios update did not make a difference so I could help them so far. Today, I received a X270 that I ordered a few weeks ago from a different vendor and it's definitely making fan noise but it's a bit quieter than the above 3 laptops.  I searched about this issue in this forum and found nothing helpful so I am going to call Lenovo Service Center to send an engineer to compare the fan noise. If you guys have any suggestions, please let me know. I will also keep posted.

I've been having an issue with my X270 laptop since I bought it. The laptop is running Windows 10. What happens is randomly (this can take weeks, or days) the trackpad and pointing stick completely stops working. The only solution is to uninstall the drivers and reinstall them using an external mouse. I've tried various versions of the drivers, including the latest, and it still continues to happen. Any solutions to fix this?

Spoiler (Highlight to read)  Good day!Problem is the following: connected through HDMI projector Epson 8100 to Lenovo B540p, a picture received in different modes ("extend the desktop, duplicate) everything works. Turned off the projector from a monoblock, a computer is loaded, the image on the screen off. Reconnected cable and projector - everything good. Set in the settings of the video card, one monitor without any projectors (without duplication, expansion screens), disconnected the cable and overhead projector, laptop loaded, the image on the monitor off. Reinstalled the native graphics driver with the clearing of the previous videoprofiles - the same result, no image without the connected hdmi cable and the connected device (not important, projector or AV receiver). People, have suggestions? Many thanks in advance!

Answer:Lenovo B540p no picture on screen without connected hdmi cable

Hi LeeNVM,

Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!

Try connecting the Projector to the Laptop and turn both on - Showing display on both built in monitor and projector.
Right Click on the Desktop and choose Screen Resolution.
     - On this page you should be able to detect your two Display (Projector and LCD) numbered 1 and 2 Display
     - On this page Click on Identify and note the number showing on your built in monitor
     - On the two numbered display screen showing, Click on the number that showed up on your screen.
At the bottom of the page there should be "Make this my default screen". Click that
Unplug the HDMI Projector and see if that works

Best Regards
Solid Cruver

Since you have to hunt around different Lenovo sites (and other sites) to find out about these softwares, I decided to make a post to get feedback from actual Yoga owners on how these programs interact, what they do, which ones are prerequisite, and which ones are unnecessary. Please don't take this as a blanket answer. This is just what I have found. It might be right - it might be wrong. I'm looking for others to post their experiences as well. Lenovo System Interface Foundation Driver - Necessary prerequisite (missing driver in device manager without it). It allows the Lenovo Utility and Lenovo Companion to work. Lenovo Yoga Mode Control - Necessary if you want to use your yoga to seemlessly change between all the different modes (laptop, tablet, tent, stand). This software is responsible for autorotating and putting Windows into tablet mode. Lenovo Utility - Recommended(?) This one I'm not too sure on. I remember that I was missing some function that I wanted but I can't remember what it was now. Maybe battery cycle count and health? Lenovo Companion - I don't have this one installed and don't think it's necessary but would like someone else to shed some light here.

I cannot get the Lenovo Keyboard to work with the docking station during the BOOT process. I am trying to select a alternative boot option by hitting the ENTER key then selecting the appropriate Fxx key. The keyboard does NOT become active until after the BIOS boot process is finished. My previous computer (HP 8560w) did NOT have any of the issue that I am having with the Lenoveo W540. the keyboard was detected during the BOOT  process and the HP provided  a BIOS option that allow selection of the appropriate boot device. Having to open the laptop to use it's keyboard is NOT an option as this impacts the attached monitors that sometimes do NOT recover from the switch to the laptop display and back.

Answer:LENOVO Flex 2 14" - screen remains dark - When external LCD connected through HMDI , display shows.

Hi RDATA34 ,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

Try to access the BIOS by turning off the system and using the novo button (item 7 page 68) to turn on.
This should offer the Novo menu screen and operates outside windows.
Pressing caps lock on and off would likewise respond and connecting to an external would produce display.
Such condition isolates the LCD as point of failure.

You can reseat (unplug and replug the LCD cable page 60) or have the LCD panel tested with available service center to verify the integrity of the LCD unit itself.

Hope this help answer your query.
Update us how it goes.

Regards

Hi everybody i hope you are all doing great. Laptop Details:Lenovo Y50-70 Laptop (Lenovo) 203784720hq512ssd960m16gb ram I made a clean install to my lenovo laptop so I lost some essential applications that came with my laptop. I installed almost all the drivers and apps at lenovo driver support download page without problems but i could not find some of lenovo apps that came in my laptop when i bought it and I really need them. The only one available in the driver download page were Lenovo energy manger. The most importants for me that i need are lenovo onekey recovery app and lenovo updates. For onekey recovery I only need the app, not the files to restore the whole partition, because the recovery partition is intact, I did not format it. So I only need the app that opens it. Th apps I want to get back are:1. Lenovo Onekey Recovery app - The one I am more interested in.2. "Lenovo Updates' (lenovo updates is the name of the app) The scond one im am more interested in.3. Lenovo Settings4. Lenovo companion If someone can guide me to where to download each of them, it would be great. I would need for windows 8.1 64 bit or windows 10. Thank You, I hope you can help me.

Answer:Where do I download Lenovo Y50 Onekey Recovery, Lenovo Settings. "Lenovo updates", Lenovo Companion?

Go to the Windows Store and do a search on "Lenovo."   You will find almost all the apps you need are available there.

How do I stop the creation of the "Lenovo" folder being created in my start menu every time I restart my system? I have my start menu orginized how I want it, its not the chaos must users have. I delete the folder every time, and it just comes back. Not a major issue but sure is annoying! Any suggestions or help will be appreacated.

Answer:Lenovo Y580 Creates "Lenovo" folder in start menu after every reboot.

A Lenovo folder on your start menu? Where exactly on the start menu  is it, and have you tried opening it? ?t may be an entry in the registry? Have you scanned your system recently? Please go here  http://www.eset.com/us/online-scanner/ and see if a scan will find malware. Checkmark all appropriate boxes and disable your antivirus just before you start the scan Please remember to turn it on again afterwards. You can also do a shot(quick) scan by going to Start>type mrt.exe into the RUN box, enter then choose Quick scan. Let us know the results,if it is malware the malware forum would be the place to go to, if not malware, then we can take it from there.

I have some problems with the Lenovo software. Lenovo Account Portal does not launch Lenovo Companion and Lenovo Settings. Also, Lenovo Solution Center is missing from the Start Menu. The second problem is that some tiles are blank in Start Menu. Seemingly it's the apps that aren't Metro. I'm not sure when the problem started, but I think it was like that since I got the PC. If I right click the apps, the only option will be "Pin to Start", and with some apps: Share and Rate. Here's a picture of the problem:I did already try:Restarting the PC.Doing scannow, DISM, and scannow again.Fixing Registry errors with CCleaner.Updating BIOS and drivers. What can I do to fix the problem?

When i try to start it it gives me black screen, nothing works but the keyboard still seems to be illuminated. Another thing I noticed is a SHORT LOUD BEEB when i plug in/out the charger. I have read that there is a common problem with the motherboard that causes this problem. I still have warranty for it. What should i do ?

Hi, I am new here. First of all sorry for my bad English I know, maybe you heard this problem a lot but in my situation i couldn't fix this and it's driving me crazy. Here is my laptop specs: CPU Intel 4720HQ, Geforce GTX 960m 4GB, Ram 16GB, Display 4K, 1 TB HDD I bought this supercool (I really like it ) laptop about 9 month ago and everything were fine and great till now. About 3 weeks ago after a normal shutdown i noticed that when i star up my laptop, i have no screen and just black! I thought that it's a windows problem (my windows was so messy) and maybe it's time to do a clean installation again. I did it and installed the latest version of Win 10 (latest was 10 also) but my problem was there still! And the intersting part is, when i blindly restart windows (pushing Alt+F4 and one direction down and enter!) my screen comes back on restart! And yes, in Black Screen mode, when i plug an HDMI cable i have screen on external monitor but changin the screen mode (i mean double screen, extended and so, won't do anything!) I read every forums and every solution in last 3 weeks and nothing! I installed Win 8.1, i updated windows automaticly, i did clean installs many times, latest geforce drivers, latest Intel drives, disabled geforce from Bios, refreshed and updated Bios, disbaled Win10 fast boot and ect. I am really tired of this and just want to enjoy my beautiful laptop again  Anybody has a solution?!

Hello, We have a problem with 2 laptops (ThinkPad X270) that "freeze" on the LENOVO logo when using Lenovo Ultra Dock with monitor Dell UZ2715H.Display Dell is plugged by Display port ports and one USB 3.0 (9 pin - used for display integrated webcam) connected to ThinkPad dock. When notebook turned ON with connected USB 3.0, computer freeze on LENOVO logo (To interrupt normal startup, press Enter) and work only when USB 3.0 disconected, or turned OFF and again Turned ON. Firmware on Dock is 2.33.000 Any suggestion?

Answer:Lenovo ThinkPad Ultra (Pro) Dock + ThinkPad X270 (20K6) + Dell UZ2715H

I am just going to guess that computer is trying to boot via USB, so you might try changing the boot order in the BIOS so that Windows Boot Manager or the HD is first.

Recently i bought a Lenovo y500 laptop with 12 ram and 16gigs of SSD. It came with Windows 8 by deffault and what i wanted was to install Linux Ubuntu 12.04 alognside with the Windows 8. It didn't work out, because i could only log into linux. When i tried to log in in Widonws it said: "unknown command drivemap      invalid EFI file path, so i used the one key recovery. It loaded Windows but i noticed 2 things:1st. After loading the Lenovo logo the screen turns black without the cursor on it and stays that way for about 17-25 sec. That means that from 20 sec boot time now it is 40+.How could i fix that one?2nd. After creating the backup i divided the 1tb disk into smaller discs and after the rocovery they were the way i left them with all the games and media on them. I thought that the one key recovery would undo the partiton i have made. The 2nd one isnt bugging me out so much but the 20 secs extra boot time do. The changes i have made in bios are disabling secure boot and switching boot mode from UEFI to legacy. After that i switched secure boot to enabled and the boot mode to UEFI as it was in the beginning.

Answer:Lenovo y500 black screen after the lenovo logo slows down boot time

hi psskobraa,

Welcome to the Lenovo Forums.

Regarding your questions:
1. The additional 17-25sec boot time is probably caused by the UEFI Firmware / UEFI boot loader (see this flowchart) - this probably got modified when you installed Ubuntu. Can you try to boot back into the BIOS, press F9 to load default settings then press F10 to save It settings. If this doesn't work, is the boot time the same when Disabling Secure Boot and UEFI set to Disabled/Legacy first?

2. OneKey Recovery usually reimage the OS partition only (i.e. C:\) and will not affect any other partitions (i.e. D:\)

Answer:ThinkCentre: Stuck at Lenovo splash screen after lenovo solution bios upgrade

I would try resetting the BIOS using the jumper, or by taking out the CMOS battery, wait a minute or two, and then replace it and try booting up. See page 73 of the Hardware Maintenance Manaul linked below for location of the Clear CMOS/Recovery jumper (# 20) https://download.lenovo.com/pccbbs/thinkcentre_pdf/m83m93p_hmm.pdf Clearing the CMOS (BIOS)1. Remove all media from the drives and turn off all attached devices and the computer. Then, disconnect all power cords from electrical outlets and disconnect all cables that are connected to the computer. 2. Remove the computer cover. 3. Locate the Clear CMOS /Recovery jumper on the system board. 4. Move the jumper from the standard position (pin 1 and pin 2) to the maintenance position (pin 2 and pin 3). 5. Reinstall the computer cover and connect the power cord. 6. Turn on the computer and leave it on for approximately 10 seconds. Then, turn off the computer by holding the power switch for approximately five seconds. 7. Repeat step 1 through step 2. 8. Move the Clear CMOS /Recovery jumper back to the standard position (pin 1 and pin 2). 9. Reinstall the computer cover and connect the power cord. Good Luck,

Hi there, since about 1 week my Thinkpad is driving me bananas with 3-5 BSOD per day, all ending with STOP and erro code either 7 or 8. I have updated the Intel drivers so far and am running the latest recommended set of Lenovo drivers but my working tool still seems to be moody. My model is an 7675 CTO with 4 GB of RAM Any further advise anybody can give me ???

Answer:Lenovo X61 Vista Ultimate Blue Screen of Death since latest Lenovo Updater ran

I have EXACTLY the same problem.X61 7675-CTO with 4Gb RAM Vista UltimateI am getting 5-7 BSOD per day and it is driving me nuts.I have to save my work every minute or so - because my ThinkPad could crash at any moment.I have reinstalled the Intel Turbo Memory diver, the Intel video chipset driver.I have even done a complete clean reinstall to factory default and then reinstalled all updates and drivers from latest versions at Lenovo.com  (it's easy to write a sentence like that but it takes me hours to complete)I still get random BSODs - even when the PC has no apps running (but I have plenty of services running thanks to all the Windows and ThinkVantage stuff that is installed). The lenovo support folks have said that their basic support can't really help me any further and I need to pay for elevated support. This PC is less than 60 days old...I spoke to someone in paid support (don't know what lenovo call their paid support) and explained the problem and told them there is no way I am paying to get BSODs resolved on a factory-state new ThinkPad - he agreed it was unfair and sent me back to first line support who restarted with the same old "have you tried reinstalling drivers?"Um, yes.I cannot afford to spend endless hours reinstalling the system and drivers trying to troubleshoot this.I decided to downgrade to Windows XP Pro and so ordered the install media from Lenovo (USD50 approx). The XP Pro restore media arrived yesterday and I can boot up into the Rescue and Recov... So everything has been working fine on my laptop until about 10:30PM EST tonight. I bought it new in August 2011.
Specs:

OS: Windows 7 Home Premium
CPU: Intel Core i7-2630QM @ 2.00 GHz
RAM: 8 GB
HD: 750 GB
BIOS: 45CN36WW

It's always been a fine machine with NO problems.
However, last night there were Windows 7 updates that were installed and then restarted my computer. I had not gotten a chance to check exactly what they were though. About 10:30 this evening, flash crashed in Mozilla Firefox which is not that uncommon, and from there Firefox closed, and so did my Microsoft Word and Excel apps that were open. From there, my computer began to shut down and restart. When it went to restart, all it could do was go to the opening Lenovo screen which gives you the F2 (setup option) and F12 (multiboot menu option) as it typically does. Besides a thin strip at the top that appeared after about 30 secs that only displays moving static that eventually will just stick, that is where the boot process ends. No Windows 7 screen, and certainly no opportunity to boot into safe mode to check for any problems. The screen freezes and goes nowhere.

So basically, all I'm getting in terms of boot options are lenovo features, not windows 7 features, meaning it won't boot into windows 7 or windows 7 safe mode no matter what I try. The biggest problem here is that I have no windows 7 disc to even try to boot from my dvd drive.

Anybody have any suggestions on what the probl... Read more

Are you able to get into the advanced boot menu by tapping F8? It might not be listed on the startup screen but it should still be there.

I have been using a Lenovo Yoga 2 Pro for just over a year. I use it at work with an external monitor which I connect via a micro-HDMI to VGA adapter. There are several times during the day that the screen on the external montior would flicker, and the connection would be lost. I would usually just reconnect the display and the external monitor would display again.  A few days ago (4 days after the warranty expired), while connected to the external display, the monitor on my Yoga went completely black. Now it won't come back on. Sometimes on startup I can see a very faint "Lenovo" logo, but that quickly goes away. I know the computer is still on because the windows logo still vibrates on the screen when touched. Anyway, does anybody know what could be causing this and how to fix it? I took it to my local Microsoft store and they said that I should replace the motherboard, but I got a feeling they didn't really know what was going on with it. I have not had any problems with this computer until now and it would be a shame if the motherboard is indeed the problem. I have really liked the computer but don't think I would buy another lenovo if I had to replace the motherboard. I have never dropped or significantly damaged it. Any help would be appreciated.

Answer:Lenovo Yoga 2 screen went black while on external monitor and won't come back on

hi smalley3,

Welcome to the Forums.

The flickering issue maybe due to a bad LCD cable or in some cases, a faulty GPU (the GPU is integrated to the CPU, and the CPU is soldered to the motherboard).

If there's still no image on the screen even after connecting an external display then you likely have a bad GPU.

In this case, I recommend you contact support for service (and also to see if there's a consideration that can be done on the warranty repair).

Here is my problem and here is the solution!!!My B540 Ideacentre would not pass the Lenovo splash screen. The only operational keys I had was F1 (BIOS) and F12 (BIOS options). F2 went to a light blue screen so no chance of even a one key recovery. Warrenty had expired four and a half months ago. I contacted Lenovo and after the guy told me to try F2 twice he said it was a HDD or other hardware failure and would cost around £200 maybe and also would take about two weeks.  AT THIS POINT YOU SHOULD NOT BE ANGRY FRUSTRATED OR PANIC. REMAIN CALM AND STOP AND THINK WHAT ACTUALLY WAS HAPPENING WHEN YOU LAST USED YOUR PC. For me I remembered Windows had auto downloaded 8.1 and was asking me to install. Also my keyboard had lost shift W T Y keys. This told me that it was not a hardware issue but a software issue and perhaps from this update. My HDD was not clicking or beeping and this PC has a 2TB Seagate Barracuda which has a good reputation. Luckly for me I also have a Seagate external expansion 2TB and a 500MB expansion which was the HDD from my old HP Touchsmart which I converted into an external hard drive by buying a HDD enclosure with cooling fan and all leads from eBay for £25 and this is where the solution is. If you can create an expansion drive so easily and access the HDD then why cant I do it with the HDD from my Ideacentre and of course you can. So first unplug your PC or laptop. Next remove the cover and unclip the HDD (which is easy with the B540.... Read more

Hi everyone!

After I discovered a rotation lock button on my Lenovo Yoga 2 pro, the start up screen has been out of sync. It's not like I've broken it or something, I just started using it and next time I turn the pc on, the screen is vertical (instead of horizontal) and won't go back with the help of that rotation button, it simply doesn't work. I log in (still looking at the vertical screen) and when I'm on my desktop I have to switch a mode (to a stand mode for example) for the computer to actually switch to horizontal screen. After that, the vertical screen doesn't bother me until I have to turn the computer back again.
Can anyone please help me solve it? Do you think it's something wrong with the button or it's something with the drivers?
I have previously switched from win 8 to win 10 (which had a lot of driver problems) and back to win 8 (which runs without a hitch apart from this particular issue).

Thanks in advance for all your help!

Often, this means something is timing out. Unplug any "extra" devices. Look for damage, such as bent pins on Ethernet or USB ports. Try different RAM if you can. Try pulling out the hard drive.

I had a virus a few days ago. I tried to delete the virus after downloading a scanner. My laptop rebooted and had a blue screen that gave me options to fix, reset to factory, etc however the keyboard wasn't working so I couldn't put in my password. The only option without the password was to reset totally so I did. After a while another screen popped up saying there was an issue with the resetting. Long story short when I reboot only the lenovo splash comes up, F2 and F12 at the bottom of the screen, and the curser in the top left corner blinks a few times and then disappears. I can't get it to boot for nothing. I am able to plug another keyboard in but now all I get is the black screen and have no options to reset. I've read that the bios is probably the issue but have not clue how to get this set back up. Won't read usb flash. Please help.

I recently purchased a Samsung 840EVO 250G SSD hard driver and made it as my main system drive. I installed Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit on the SSD. However, after I installed Lenovo Energy Management Windows 7, it prompted me a message telling me to restart the PC. When I do so, the computer wouldn't able to boot again. A flash of a blue screen showed up after the Windows 7 logo done and the computer rebooted again; and it keep looping and looping. I am able to fix the blue screen by system restoring. However, the Lenovo Energy Management was still not installed. I'm just wondering, has anyone encountered this problem before, and what are the solutions of fixing this problem. Thank you.

Yesterday my Lenovo Y50/70 stopped booting up.  I am running windows 10 and when I power it on the fan comes on and i get the Lenovo screen and the spinning dots for a few seconds, then it blinks goes blank.  The screen is lit but nothing is displayed.  I can interrupt the boot by hitting F2 and see the bios stuff but nothing so far has helped. What is going on?

Answer:Lenovo Y50 Y70 Wont boot past Lenovo power up screen

If you switch off the laptop, and then switch it ON by pressing the ONE KEY RECOVERY button, what do you see?
Does it go into the recovery menu?

To make a long story short, I've been asked to help fix a friends mom's U410 laptop which wasnt activiting Windows 8.1 properly (Was Windows 8 OOB). After struggling with the activation for a few hours, I backed up the data and decided to just run the Lenovo one key recovery. During the recovery process, the installation had failed. When I attemped to reboot, no Lenovo splash screen was loading - just a black screen (although i can hear the cooling fan start, and hear the harddrive spin up. I tried to access the boot menu thru the novo button, and nothing would load; still a black screen. After researching for a few more hours, I had found multiple threads about bios updates required to be able to access bios with windows 8, and other threads about gpus on these units booting to a second screen (which i did test, and the second monitor does indicate a signal). None of the solutions on those threads have given positive results.   Basically, I've run out of options and am looking for some suggestions. The only thing that shows up on the display at anytime is the small blue novo menu when the button is pressed (normal start up, bios setup, boot menu, system recovery - all of which just leave a black screen). Thanks.

I bought the Lenovo yoga 900 in December as i was about start medical school, now after only about 6 months of use, while i was using it one evening, i decided to take a break from school work, when I got back to my computer it had powered down and tried to reboot but didn't make it pass the Lenovo screen, i tired exhausting the battery power and trying it again but to no avail. so my question is has anyone had this kind of problem before and if so what is the solution? Also is this a common problem and how long is the company warranty for my 6 month old computer, in case i need to give it back to get something more reliable, its kind of disheartening as i had believed this was the best decision i made for medical school, but now am left with the possibility of failing the semester due to faullty equipment. SOOO PLEASE SOMEBODY HELP ME SAVE MY SEMESTER. Thnak youjay

Answer:Lenovo Yoga 910 wont load pass the Lenovo screen.

Try getting into BIOS first and loading default settings. To do this, press the small "Novo" button (you'll need a paperclip for this), and select "BIOS setup". From there, use the arrow keys to get to the "exit" tab and select load default settings.

If this doesn't work, let me know.

Its a hardware problem of some description. A technician would need to assess it. If its not even getting close to the boot process.Call Lenovo Tech Support who may advise you on something.

I have a Lenovo 3000 N100 laptop for the past two years.Apart from the famous battery issue with this laptop, I have not had any problems with this unit. Since yesterday, I am getting a black screen after logon to Windows XP.Yesterday, I was able to log on and then the laptop will go black after a minute or two after log on. Today, it has gotten worse, as soon as the Windows XP logo comes on, the screen goes black after a fewseconds. I also noticed that the Lenovo Icon displayed during Power On is also Teal in Color. I tried booting the laptop in Safe mode and the problem still remains.I tried booting the laptop using Windows XP CD and try to repair the Windows XP installation using R optionand still the screen goes black.  Please advice if this is a hardware or software or virus issue.

Answer:Lenovo 3000 N100 - Teal Color Lenovo Icon at Power Up then Windows XP logo then Black Screen

Hi there.  I have the same problem.  My screen is black all the time now with odd spurts of light occuring just after loading. My laptop is sadly out of guarantee so I cannot get any telephone help from IBM, however the chap I spoke to did hint that it was a problem with the LCD cable. Then I phoned my local PC repair man and he said it sounds like the bulb, because I can still faintly see the outline of whats on the screen through the "blackness". So.  Not sure! Have you come to any resolution yet?  Meantime I have my laptop pluggged into an external monitor until I get it fixed.  Susan

Hey guys,
I'm pretty sure you guys don't deal with this sort of thing.
I'm hoping you can bring this issue to light to help others avoid the same fate with the Lenovo 2 in-1 laptops.
I've had a torrid experience with a Lenovo Yoga 900 and an even worse experience with their warranty and repair service
The laptop screen cracked from my hand hitting it, yes that's right, its never been dropped and doesn't even have a scratch and the touch has stopped responding.
Lenovo wanted 2,700 for the repair which is ludicrous
They promised a fair repair cost after I complained and it took them a month to reduce the cost from 2,700 to 2,500 RM.
This is the full story
To everyone wondering about whether to purchase one of Lenovo's new 2 in 1 Laptops, especially with the Yoga 910 and other new Ultraportables coming out, let me save you the trouble by saying " run away " this is coming to you from a seriously distraught Lenovo Yoga 900 user who once thought of it as being one of the best ultrabooks.
The problem is not simply the cracked screen but the circumstances in which the screen itself cracked.
I bought my laptop in Kuching, Malaysia from Thunder Match Technology Sdn Bhd at Vivacity Megamall, mid-august paying 6,000 R.M (1430$) which is an extremely large sum of money which I assumed at the time would be worth it considering I was buying what was promoted as a high-end 2 in 1 Ultrabook and was getting an official Lenovo warranty for the aforementioned Laptop.

Hi, I was wondering if anyone knows if it's possible to view the On Screen Display notifications such as whether CAPS LOCK is on or off on an external monitor? The external monitor is not a clone, it's an extended screen. I'd like the Caps Lock on or off notification on the external screen. I spend my time looking at the large external screen and continually having to guess if the Caps Lock is on or off!? Any help is greatly appreciated, thanks.

My Y500 is all of a sudden unable to start-up normally. It is supposed to start with a screen for entering the password for my hard drive. Instead, it just shows a gray screen. Other than that it powers on and the fan starts running as it should, and all of the ports and lights work. Any ideas?

How do you remove the text "Lenovo Apps" from the main start screen, not the all apps screen.  It appears to be a text header for a column.  Since I re-arranged the pre-loaded app tiles this heading no longer applies to this section.

Solved!

Go to Solution.

Answer:Remove "Lenovo Apps" text from start screen

on the touch screen place one finger on and hold take another finger and swipe toward your other, this will reduce the size of the icons.  Then click on the offending title and an option in the task bar will be to rename.

Problem:
Black screen. No BIOS read-outs. Not possible to enter the BIOS menu. CPU fan, hard drive and other indicator lights up and works normally.

Synopsis:
PC starts normally at about every 30 attempts. In this case, the BIOS (F2) or Windows 7 starts normally. Observations suggest that PC will only start when it is completely cold, ie when it has been off for at least 2 hours between 2 start-up attempts. This time can be reduced to about 15 min, if cooling elements are placed on both sides of the motherboard (below the PC, and on top of the keyboard).

What has been studied / tried?
Power supply and connectors - ok.
Battery ok (though worn and should be replaced because it will no longer charge for max capacity).
CMOS battery holds 3V (although volt drops at loads > 5 mA).
Ram, HDD and CPU is tested / changed and found ok.
Motherboards (incl. Graphics chip) has been tested and found ok using various test programs from the official Lenovo Support.
Visual inspection of the motherboard: Nothing to report.
Heating the graphics chip using heat gun (in order to eliminate any cold solder joints) did not solve the problem.
Attempt installation of the latest original BIOS executable file from the Lenovo Support (only possible under Windows) fails:

Error 216 - Failed to read the BIOS from ROM! Status = 1604

Attempts unpacking of the original BIOS executable file from Lenovo Support succeed not in spite of several attempts.

Answer:Lenovo Z580 will not start - Black Screen [SOLVED]

I first want to say thank you for such an informative, detailed write-up.  Everything in the procedure worked for me, with no issues, until the (optional) step of "Download and install the latest original BIOS Lenovo Support." I downloaded the Z580 BIOS updater from Link A, released 8/13/2014. Upon attempting the installation of the first file, Public.exe, it appears to be successful, the computer reboots, and then is stuck gets stuck in an infinite boot loop asking to select the boot device. This has been detailed by other users, Link B. If you decide to attempt the Lenovo BIOS update and get stuck in this boot loop, try the following:When the boot device screen comes up, press tab to select Bios OptionsUnder Bios Options, scroll to the rightmost menu and change the boot type from UEFI to Legacy (Link B). This allows the PC to boot, but under a slow legacy debugging mode - things are NOT fixed at this point. Insert your bootable USB key, containing Flash.bat and then restart the computerWhen the computer boots, keep pressing F12 to choose the boot device, and move the USB key to the top of the listThe portable Windows 98 OS will then start from the USB key, and you can reinstall the BIOS from the "Flash.bat" file. Note, I did not have to reactivate Windows after this procedure.  System Specifications:Lenovo Z580, model 2151, manufactured 2012/05/24Core i5-3210M processor2x4 GB RAMIntel HD3000 graphicsWindows 7 home premium 64...
