Toshiba Flash cards preventing shutdown

Question: Toshiba Flash cards preventing shutdown

Hi, everyone,

there may be a thread about this, but i could not find it.

I have the following problem: after the lat uptade from Microsoft (I believe the Fall Uptade...) everytime I try to shut the laptop down or restart it, I get the notification on the screen that Toshiba Flash Cards is preventing the computer from shutting down. I get two options - to cancel shutdown or force it. I tried turning the FN keys off from star up settings. However it did not help.

Has anybody ever had this problem? Does anyone know how to fix it?

I don't want to loose the FN keys, but i don't want to force a shutdown everytime either.

So any ideas?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Wondering if anyone can help me.

I recently just rebooted my Satellite A200-195.

I found that my flash cards for my ?FN? hotkey function buttons have disappeared and do not pop up on top of the screen anymore.
However I am able to press the other function buttons on the keypad F1 - F8, part from the one that enables the mouse?F9?.

I have already uninstalled and installed the Value Added Package, Flash support utility and even tried to update the Bios but it seems my Bio is already the newest version.
After all this I seem to be able to enable my mouse pad ?F9? but my other function buttons are not working anymore and the flash cards still are not appearing like they use to.
Is there anything I can do to get my flash card to pop up back on screen without having to set my laptop back to factory default?

Answer:Satellite A200-195: TOSHIBA Flash Cards "black and white cards" not working

Have you tried to restart Flash cards?
Start > All programs > Toshiba > Utilities > Restart Flash cards.

What you can also try is to install ?Flash cards support utility? if you can find it on Toshiba download page.

Hi, essejyar, and welcome to the forums.

Can you give us a picture of the *exact* error message, or else write down what it is saying exactly?

As far as multiple user environment, sorry, XP and Vista are both built on the NT kernel (and advances made to said kernel) which means they support multiple users by default. There are a couple of things you can do to make it less intrusive, like automating your login and such, and you can make it easier to use, like disabling UAC, but to protect you from your own self, I'd not recommend these at all.

I am a 20+ year veteran of using computers and I leave UAC on - because then I don't have to run Ad-aware and Spybot and Malwarebytes and Spywareguard and lock down my hosts file and all those other fun things you needed on XP to keep it relatively safe from intrusion and malware....

Hi there.
Like to first off apologise if this is the wrong place to post this topic, but put it down to been new here and the fact that at this point I'm tearing my hair out!!!...
Just recently bought a Toshiba Satellite A135-S4427, which runs Vista Premium, and in the main I'm pretty pleased with it.
No major least none that don't resolve themselves eventually.
This was however not until I noticed that my Toshiba Flash Card, which host the hot keys and some computer functions and which should drop down only when you point your cursor at the top of the screen, developed a mind all of its own and from time to time decided to make an unsolicited apperance and drop down without been prompted!
As it usually happens when I have just finished clicking on something or touched my mouse, I thought it might have something to do with the external optical mouse I was using so off I went to buy another one but of course the darn thing still does the same thing with the new mouse.
I have found a way to disable the flash cards, but I would rather be able to make use of them rather than turning the fuction off completely because of the annoying 'drop down'.
Someone mentioned to me that it may be a conflict between a program I've installed since getting the computer and the flash card program, but as itunes is the only major add-on I have installed, I wonder!?!...
Could this be another classic case of vista gone bad, or is there something else?

Hello everyone,

Just a quick question. Is there any way that I can have the animation at the top of my screen turned off and STILL have the function keys functional? When I'm running multiple programs and/or on battery power, it takes forever for the animation to pop out and it's just an annoyance. Anything to fix it? Any other software to make them functional? Or any upgrades?

My system is Windows Vista, just in case someone wants to know.
Thank you,

I'm working on a friend's Toshiba Satelite L775-S7307. I've reformatted it, put on a shiny new copy of Windows 7 64bit, and installed many of the drivers required to run the hardware.

Now out of the blue, immediately when I turn on the computer, a window titled "TOSHIBA Flash Cards" pops up saying "Win8-TestVersion". You can then click OK or Cancel, both which do nothing more than close the window.

I did a search for the Flash Cards program on the computer but couldn't find anything and I have no idea how to get rid of it.

I've attached a picture of the screen immediately after being booted. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Sometimes, unexpectedly and probaby due to some mistake on my part, a message appears saying Toshiba flash cards not responding. What is this?

Answer:Toshiba flash cards don't response

I assume you are an owner of the notebook with the Vista OS. The Toshiba Flash card is preinstalled software which controls visually the FN buttons.

The Toshiba flash cards are placed at the upper display edge. Usually they are not visible but if you will move the courser over this display area the Flash Cards should appear.

I don?t know why the message appears saying the Toshiba flash cards do not response.
Maybe a reinstallation could helps.

After finally being able to launch Toshiba Flash Cards ( [see thread|] ), I just discovered that Fn+key does not activate any of the functions!

Activating them using the mouse and click the correct card does however work as expected.

I also discovered that adding the Raid console to my Flash Cards causes FC to crash!

User Account Control (UAC) prevents the Fn-keys to work. By disabling UAC, I can use the Flash Cards. But I suggest Toshiba better find another solution for this, as disabling UAC lowers the security!

You can set it back if something will go wrong?.

After this short procedure you could check in task manager if the Tcrdmain.exe was disabled and if the notebook runs trouble free.

The Toshiba Flash Cards has been designed for the Windows Vista only

The Windows 7 is very similar to the Vista and many drivers could and would run with Windows 7 but in very rare cases some tools would be not fully compatible?

The Toshiba Flash Cards is not a driver; it?s a utility which seems to be not compatible with Windows 7?

I've done some searching and it seems that both KeNotify.exe (Toshiba/Utilities) and TCrdMain.exe (Toshiba/Flashcards) are responsible for managing the Fn keys.

Could anyone please explain what each does separately, and what functionality will I loose if I remove them from startup?

Thanks a lot!

Answer:What does the Toshiba Flash Cards / KeNotify Application controls?

From my knowledge the Flash Cards (visual FN button row at the top of the screen) appears pressing if one of the FN + F1-F9 key combination would be pressed.
If you remove both tools, I assume that this visual menu would not appear anymore and you will lose the FN button functionality.

But you can test this just for testing proposes without deleting both entries.
In search type msconfig. In msconfig choose Startup tab and here uncheck both exe files. Save the changes and reboot the unit.

If you want to get back these processes, access the Startup tab again and enable both processes once again.

Toshiba Flash Cards crashes on Vista when windows is set to use the "windows standard" colour scheme under appearance settings, (for your information, I prefer to use this mode as vista runs quicker, uses less battery power and less system ram in this mode).

However it does not crash immediately, instead it seems to crash whenever I rotate the screen (which happens quite often as I?m using a tablet pc) with the previous version of the software it crashed on boot however that seems to have been rectified with this version although not completely, however when it crashes it will not fully close even if i force task manager to end the process (rather than just the task).

My toshiba is Satellite U300 model no. PSU30C-TP908C with windows vista installed

I am getting into a big trouble for some reason, all the keys from "F1~F12" are malfunctioned. When i press them, they do not work as what its suppose to do, instead they all became the functions that you would have when you press them while holding the "Fn" key. So, now if i press F1, I actually get a compter locked instead of casting the help window. Pressing "U,I,O,J,K,L,M" would print out numbers, but if you turn "ON" the numberpad by pressing "F11"(note that i could do it without holding Fn), these keys will return to normal. Space bar does not work no matter what you do. The numbers "1,2" above "Q,W" does not work either.

Another thing i found out is that when i try to open the accessibility tools in the toshiba utility. It says "This system does not support this program".

I have tried to find updates to these utilities, but i could not find the ones suitable for my toshiba. However, from the list of toshiba satellite U300, there is only 3 models and none of them is PSU30C-TP908C. I did not know which one is compatible with my model, so i gave up finding the updates.

Normally you can find all drivers on the Toshiba Canada page for your notebook: => Support => Mobile Computing

For the FN keys on Windows you need the Value Added Package. You can find it on the Toshiba website. Remove the old version and restart the notebook. Then use CCleaner to clean the registry and then install the version.

But be honest if you can?t go in the BIOS because with F2 I think it?s a keyboard malfunction and this has nothing to do with the Toshiba tools.
In your case I would test an external keyboard? So you can determine if it?s an internal keyboard problem or not.

Good luck!

Hi all.

Hardware: Toshiba Tecra S5-14R
I have a problem with Toshiba Flash Cards software.
When it starts I've received an error "R6025 - pure virtual function call", and then the microsoft alert that Toshiba Flash Cards software stopped working

I'm using Windows Vista Business 32 bit OS, and I've downloaded new version of Toshiba Flash Cards software (v.2.00.05), but it doesn't solve the problem.

Could somebody help?

Answer:Tecra S5-14R: Toshiba Flash Cards stops working: Runtime Error R6025

It seems that this error is known to the Microsoft support people and therefore they have published a knowledge base article.
Such error appears also if you would run the software ?Microsoft Money?.

Please try the steps described here:
[Runtime Error: "R6025 -Pure virtual function call"|]

I would recommend doing this:

1. Disable the Flash cards
2. Click Start, type cmd in the Start Search box, and then press ENTER.
3. At the command prompt, type the following lines one at a time, and then press ENTER after each line:
- regsvr32 softpub.dll
- regsvr32 wintrust.dll
- regsvr32 initpki.dll
- regsvr32 dssenh.dll
- regsvr32 rsaenh.dll
- regsvr32 cryptdlg.dll
- regsvr32 gpkcsp.dll
- regsvr32 sccbase.dll
- regsvr32 slbcsp.dll

4. Enable the Flash Card Utility again

Answer:this app is preventing shutdown

You could use Task Manager to identify the programs running right before shutdown. Then you could shut them down one by one before shutting down and, thereby, possibly eventually identifying the offending program. What's happening isn't a problem, maybe just a tad annoying.

After the last major update, my computer upon hitting shutdown, displays a pop-up stating that "The instruction
0x00007FFFFF66CC60 referenced at 0x000000000000 the memory could not be read - Click okay to terminate"
and behind the pop-up, windows is indicating that the DDE Server Window is preventing shutdown. Sits there until the okay to terminate is clicked.
Thanks for any information!

That's a known error in build 10130 and it's been addressed in build 10147.

Answer:How to find out program preventing windows shutdown

You might try a scan with Adwcleaner
AdwCleaner Download
and see what that comes up with.

You could also compare shutting down from safe mode and see if you get the same message. If not, you could proceed with diagnosis from a clean boot, assuming that if you did a clean boot, you did not see this message when you shut down. That would work if this is a well-behaved program.

Note: if this is adware or malware, you will likely need a specialist tool, which is why I suggest Adwcleaner first. If that finds nothing there are others you can try.

I own a Compaq Presario A906 laptop (which i like a lot, especially its 17" screen) that is 4.5 yrs old & running on XP. Recently, on three separate occassions, it would just shut down by itself almost immediately on boot-up. Checked no virus, and all system files are updated. Reading through the forums, I believe this is caused by an over-zealous protection system linked to heating up of the vents. I am confident of my machine and would like to prevent any future uninitiated shut-down. I came across these programs: Amphetamine, Don't Sleep and Insomnia but believe they are more of "better interfaces" for the system shutdown/sleep profiles under Power Option control panel rather than truly ensuring no shut down (ps: my profile is set to "Never" sleep or shutdown). Does anyone know of any software that can force the machine to NOT shutdown unless initiated by the user ? Maybe the softwares mentioned above may be able to do this - any experience ?

Thanks for all help in advance

Answer:Force Preventing PC from system initiated shutdown

PS: just to clarify - the machine justs shuts off, there is no shutdown procedure. It is like the power plug has been removed and there is no battery in it.

Hello there,

I've been searching, unsuccessfully, for a solution to this without resorting to third party programs.

My nephews Windows 7 machine automatically locks at certain times to prevent him going on it or just to get him off of it at bed time.

At this time he is usually playing Minecraft and it locks with the game running. The computer is also set during the day so that is he doesn't use it for an hour it shuts down. I did have it set to go to sleep but it seems to show a BSOD after waking up again, plus I always feel resuming from sleeping just generally causes problems.

Now the problem I have is that if it locks in the evening while he is playing his game, then it stops the pc from idling and the scheduled shut down I have set after an hour of idling then doesn't kick in.

Does anyone have an idea of how to change this to either set the idling state when there is simply no keyboard or mouse input or to perhaps close the program at a certain time?

I'm aware there are third party programs that can accomplish this but I generally don't like using too many programs or things. If I really have to then I will do.

Also I noticed that the monitor still goes to sleep. I guess this is set using just the mouse and keyboard input.

Many thanks :-)

Answer:Stop programs preventing Windows 7 from scheduled idle shutdown.

To me it sounds like his PC has more problems than the scheduled shutdown.
If it gets BSOD's, ask for help in the BSOD forum, using the BSOD posting instructions.

If i had this problem, i would
- Restore the system to a time before the problems started.
-- I have system backup images ... do you have backup images or restore points ?
- If i still have a problem after a restore, ask for BSOD help.
- Check for malware and virus's
- Run a System File Check - SFC /SCANNOW Command - System File Checker
- If none of this works, do a clean reinstall

I have a Dell Studio 1555 Bios A13

I have three flash drives, one a 1gb HP flash drive, one a 2gb Sandisk Cruzer, and one a 16gb Patriot XT

When the HP 1gb drive and Sandisk 2gb are plugged in during boot, nothing happens. It POSTs fine and starts windows.

When the Patriot drive is plugged in during boot, the BIOS hangs 2/3rds of the way through POST.

I have tried multiple formatting schemes. Also note that there is absolutely nothing on any of these drives, they are empty and freshly formatted.

1gb formatted to FAT works, FAT32 works, exFAT works, all regardless of allocation size.

2gb formatted to FAT works, FAT32 works, exFAT works, all regardless of allocation size.

16gb formatted to FAT32 fails, exFAT fails, regardless of allocation size. I have tried a full (non-quick) format to check for bad sectors, to no avail. I have tried HP format tool rather than windows format tool, to no avail.

So at this point I'm thinking it's the Dell BIOS at fault here, and I'm going to have to dualboot instead of making a multiboot drive. If anybody can help suggestions would be great.

Answer:USB flash drive preventing POST, others work fine

go into your bios and see if you have the option to boot from a flash drive, if you do disable it. then it should boot as normal, ignoring the flash drives until it reaches windows

I own a Lenovo G530 which is running Window XP Service Pack 3. I have run into some problem which concerns the USB ports. Yesterday, I inserted a USB flash drive (pen drive) into one of the port. Since then, the My Computer page fails to load. A flash light icon appears and keeps searching for drivers and folders forever. The drivers themselves are accessible through the command prompt or through the Run interface.

After this problem occurred, I tried to shut-down the system but it hung on Saving Your Settings. I did force shutdown through the power button. After re-starting the system, the problem persists. My Computer view is stuck in the scan phase. Also, I am unable to use my USB internet data card.

How can make my computer functional again? Please advice.

Answer:USB malfunction preventing system shutdown and My Computer page fails to load

first thing i would try is open a command prompt and type in sfc /scannow . this would allow windows to repair some minor problems. if that doesn't work, i would be suspicious of some type of infection.

I recently purchased a new (used) Asus laptop K53SV because I needed better graphics and wanted to downgrade to Windows 7. When I purchased the laptop I gave the store a brand new 256GB SSD and they duly transferred the contents of the original WD 640GB drive to the SSD. The laptop has worked perfectly ever since.

However, I was stuck with a 640GB drive. So just the other day I decided to replace the CDROM drive with the WD 640GB. Who uses CDROM drives anymore? I have an external one if I really need it. I bought the correct HD carrier and installed the drive. But now I cannot cleanly shutdown/sleep/restart etc. If I shutdown the screen goes black after awhile but the power button light stays on. After a few more minutes the system blues screens with this error:

Driver power state failure
Stop 0x9F

So I did a diagnostic startup to eliminate the possibility of any other driver causing the problem because I had also upgraded the internal wireless at the same time. Still same problem. So I removed the WD 640GB and now the system shutdowns/restarts/sleeps normally.

BTW when the WD 640GB is in the system I am able to use it without any apparent problems.

WD support is having problems right now otherwise I would have downloaded their diag utility before posting. I will do that but in the mean time any suggestions? Is there anything inherently wrong with what I did? Did I miss something? Thanks.

Answer:Hard drive preventing clean shutdown/sleep/restart stop 0x9F

Hi dpetican, welcome to the Forum.

Have you accessed the BIOS & checked that the CD/DVD drive is not still showing in the boot order. If so you will have to remove it from the start up list.

Then go to Control Panel then Device Manager & see if the CD/DVD is still showing & if so uninstall it.

Could you then post back with a screen shot of your Disc Management with the 640GB drive attached to your computer. The tutorial below will show you how to do that & there is a link at the end of it explaining how to upload that to the Forum.

Do flash cards and flash drives use the same technology? If so, would a utility designed for flash cards work on flash drives and vice-versa?

Answer:Flash Cards and Flash Drives

Yes, they use the same flash chips for storage. As for the utility.. It depends on what you want to do.

On application level a drive is a drive is a drive and there is no difference between working with a hard drive, a flash drive, a memory card, a zip drive, whatever.

Hi, I have a question about my laptop/sd cards...

I'm a photographer and I need my SD cards to be read by my laptop. Now, recently I had hard drive troubles on my Toshiba laptop, so I had my neighbor/tech-guy look at it and "fix" it. However, when I got it back (a few months ago) the SD card reader wouldn't read any cards anymore. I have no idea why.

So, I started looking for online support. I found that if you go to Run... and type in devmgmt.msc you see a list of drivers and what not on your list there. I found out that mine does not have a Storage/Controllers option, which is supposedly where the SD card reader is supposed to be. So, I went to something else and clicked on a box that said "Don't hide empty folders," like another website told me to do, and I did, and nothing changed.

I also went and uninstalled a couple of different things I thought might have something to do with SD cards and them being read. I restarted the laptop, nothing. I did some updates, nothing. Currently, I am at a loss of what to do.

Anyone here think they can help me out? Any help at all would be greatly appreciated. I need my photos, and I won't always have flimsy connection cables to help me out. Gracias!

I own a Portege A100 and have Windows 2000 installed. I used the Toshiba drivers CD to install all my necessary drivers. All seem to work except my LAN & WAN drivers. They install fine with no errors, however my LAN/WAN device comes up as unknown in Device Manager. I tried the "Reinstall Driver" menu option but that didn't find any drivers from the CD.

I went to the Downloads section of Toshiba website and found that there are no LAN/WAN drivers for Windows 2000, even though there are BIOS drivers for Windows 2000.

Am just wondering whether it's possible to tweak these Windows XP LAN/WAN drivers so that they can work for Windows 2000?

Or can Toshiba or Intel make Windows 2000 drivers for my LAN/WAN devices please?

Answer:HELP: pls make Win2k drivers for my Toshiba LAN/WAN cards

Problem is that your unit is not supported for W2000 and you will not find it on Toshiba download page. The only solution is to check hardware producer download page and check if you can find it there.

You can also try to find out if some other Portege model has the same hardware. It can happen that some other model is supported for W2000 users.

Good luck!

This is probably a better place to ask then then in Disk Storage Systems.

Is it possible to get back the autoplay where you select what you want so to do in xp when you put in a flash carded into a card reader. I am guessing when it is put in to many times it starts opening up the same way every time.

All I could find on google was how to disable it.

Answer:Autoplay and flash cards.

I would say put the card back into the reader so you get a drive icon and drive letter, then right click on it and choose Properties, then it should have an AutoPlay tab listed so you can configure it however you like.

Hope this helps...

Hello everyone

I wonder if its possible to use FN keys without toshiba flash cards on the top of the screen and so without installing the value added package?

some FN keys like brightness, mute, display switching and sleep are working without VAP
but I also have WiFi on/off, touchpad on/off, energy mode switching, zooming buttons, which are not working

again I dont want to have this flash cards utility always running and consuming ram

Answer:Using FN keys without flash cards

As far as I know something like this is not possible and if you want to have FN functionality ?flash cards? utility must run in the background.
This with RAM consuming is funny for me because if you disable it you will not see any difference in computer performance.

Maybe you should disable some other useless background processes that you don?t need.
If you have new notebook model with Win7 they have enough RAM for all operations and running flash cards will not have much influence on computer performance.

Have been getting a message last 4-5 nights when trying to shut down, saying that "The following programs are still running: SUPERANTISPYWAR. This program is preventing your computer from shutting down." The message persists for a few moments and then the computer finally shuts down.

Could not find any such "superantispywar" (note: without the "e"). Hmmm. It feels like I'm being used as somebody's server perhaps.

I ran the recommended scans, but could not get MGtools to give me anything. I also tried to run GetLogs.bat as administrator and got nothing either. User Account Control is off and AV and firewall are disabled so I'm stumped and need help with that one.

Please click Start, All Program, Accessories and you will see ( among other things ) a Command Prompt entry.
Right click the Command Prompt entry and select Run As Administrator.

It is critical that you run it this way.

If you do this properly, a command prompt window will open with a title of Administrator Command Prompt.
Enter the below commands at the command prompt each followed by the enter key. The bold black are commands. The purple/brown is merely informational.

cd \MGtools <-- this changes to the MGtools folder and the prompt should change to C:\MGtools>

The FN key flashcards (that drop down from the top of screen) worked nicely for the first week of using this new notebook, they seemed to disappear by themselves (windows updates are the devil, so I point the finger at that) and I've spent an inordinate amount of time resolving this issue.

I have downloaded the latest TVAP and flashcard utility from Toshiba support. installed tvap and then rebooted and then ran the flash card utility installer which uninstalled the utility and then rebooted and then reran the utility installer, rebooted and still no joy.

my FN keys are still working, but without the flash card I cant see where im scrolling through wifi/bluetooth on/off.

What else can be done once tvap and flash card utility have been installed?

Answer:Re: Satellite A500 - Flash Cards don't appear

I had a similar problem that Flash Cards didn?t appear anymore... As far as I know it was related to an additional software that I installed? If I remember rightly, it was VMware?

So if you install this program remove it. Furthermore make sure that Flash Cards Support Utility and Value Added Package will be started properly.

Before you install newest versions, remove the old one firstly and start CCleaner to clean up the registry.

I hope it helps!

The 512mb card i can read on the PC and see the pictures that i have taken,,,,but, some of the pictures are like double exposure types of picture ie: one picture on top of another.

The two 256mb cards i cannot read at all in the camera or the PC.

Is therer a way of low level formatting them through the PC without using Active Sync. I have a multi card reader in my PC and want to know if there are any utilities that can do this.

I have tried formatting in the camera but it just locks the camera up. On a card that is working there is no problem at all.

Logged in as me, and the cards were gone on my version of the app too. Back to the drawing board.

Sorry, please excuse my english. Can anybody tell me how to reactivate the flash-cards-access via FN-key?
I?ve restarted the cards several times without fixing the problem :-(

THX, Sascha

Answer:Flash cards are not accessable by FN-key anymore

I?m really wondering it doesn?t work after flash cards restart. What you can try is to reinstall Value Added package.

By the way: let us know which notebook model and OS do you use.

My Notebook is a Satellite PSB3E 200. If I click on Flash cards in the Start menu the cards are activated and they have been seen by putting the FN button. However starting my pc once again the flash cards are no more activated.
In order to solute this problem I downloaded and installed the flash cards utility from the Toshiba site.

However running the driver I receive the notification the serial number is invalid. Who can help me?

Answer:Question about Flash Cards activation

I really don't know which notebook model do you have but what you can do is to remove Value added package from the system and install latest version offered on Toshiba download page.

After doing this everything should work well.
Please let me know if this works for you.

I bought a Lexar Platinum II 8gb 200x compact flash card to use as a boot drive { my machine has jumper for cf to be c:\ } and at first it did not show as c: drive at all . I used Lexar usb tool to flip the removable media bit and it then showed as c: drive but could not read or write and said incorrect drive perimeters error . I changed the jumper back and now as a slave I could fdisk and format so I made 4 partitions and formated them no problem . After I tried c drive , same problem as before , but works perfect as  the slave { installed win98se , runs perfect } . When I checked the bios as c: drive it said 12000 {approx.}cylinders  20 heads and 63 sectors but as slave it reports 16000 {approx }cylinders 16 heads and 63 sectors . I tried inputing the drive perimeters but no go . I've never seen a drive report 20 heads before so I assume that explains the error incorrect drive perimeters thing and I assume my CF card was never meant to act as a boot drive . My C: drive is a 64mb dom , hence the interest in a bigger C: drive . I wanted to run dos and win3.11 but quite the squeeze for a full install . So my questions are , do you have to get a purpose built CF card to be a boot drive ? What specs should I look for ?

Answer:Questions about compact flash cards

A simple answer would be NO. No, you do not need a spacial flash drive.. You are using Windows 98 SE. Right? It was not meant to boot from a flash drive. Windows 98 installs on the first hard drive it finds.  But there is a way to make it use a flash drive. But why do you need to boot from a flash drive?Have you read the tutorials? There are several out there. You can Google:Boot Windows 98 from a flash driveAnd find hundreds, even thousands of people who did it.Here is just one of so many: this installation, C:\ drive is your flash disDoes that help any?

HI all - I tried to search for an existing thread but....

I have TWO pcie NEC USB 3.0 host controller cards installed. Each card has two usb 3.0 ports.

Everything was fine until I installed the second card. Now I get a BSOD only when I shutdown, and it seems every time I shutdown. It boots fine.

Question: I know I have given very little detail but in general, is there any reason I should not be able to have two of these cards installed? The device mgr actually looks like 3 are installed (under USB Controllers).

Windows 7 (of course)
x58a-ud3r mobo
Any advice or suggestions greatly appreciated.

Hi Elliot and welcome
Without the DMP's there could be a million reasons. You should be able to have two or more but if the number of drivers/devices in device mgr is different than the correct number that in itself could be the problem...Try UN-installing the highest number device.

Answer:"malfunctioning add-on"preventing dload of flash player

Start > All Programs > Accessories > System Tools > Internet Explorer (No add-ons)

Basically it's a safe mode for IE. Use that and then disable the add-on that is causing the problem.

I have a problem with the flash cards not responding on my Equium A100-27 Notebook.
It's been gradually getting worse over several months, during which time Windows would notify me that "Toshiba Flash Cards Not Responding" and invite me to search for a solution and close the programme.

This always resolved the problem, but recently not only do the flash cards not work so that I cannot, for example turn the touchpad on or off, but Windows is no longer notifying me and searching for a solution.
The problem appears to be entirely circular, because Microsoft don't want to know if you bought your computer with operating system already installed (Why? Perhaps they can't afford proper customer support!) and Toshiba offer no means at all of communicating with them directly, other than at prohibitive cost.

Am I the only person in the world to conclude that this appalling lack of any meaningful customer support is clearly indicative of a "Sod you - I'm only interested in sales and profit" attitude and is there any kind soul out there who can offer the possibility of a solution?

Answer:Equium A100-27 - Flash cards not responding

HI lacourtade,

First of all keep cool!!!
Why you get worked up over that? Such things can happen, nobody and no notebook is perfect. Furthermore you have tried nothing as yet and I think your problem can be solved in few minutes so listen up:

The Flash Cards that you mean are a part of Value Added Package. So you should try to reinstall this Toshiba tool and you can download the latest version here: > Support & Downloads > Download Drivers

Before you install the latest version, remove the old one firstly. Then restart the notebook and install the version that you have downloaded.

Good luck! :)

This seems really odd to me and I have been unable to figure it out. When I insert a card from one of our digital cameras into the reader(s) on my computer it reads the card and I can view the files. But the next time I insert a card into the reader it brings up the photos from the last set of files that were on that card (using Windows Explorer). It's as though it is not reading the card but is reading the directory that the previous files occupied on that card. Yet when I click on one of the "old" photo thumbnails it will bring up the "new" photo. Removing and reinserting the card does not help. Rebooting does not help. If I right click on one of the old photo thumbnails and bring up the real photo and alter it, for example rotate it and then save it, it will show up normally. I can select all of the photos, even though the ones I select are "old" and move them into a seperate folder. When I view the photos in that folder they are correct! This is happening with both SD cards and Smart Media cards (old and outdated but I love that camera!). What the heck am I missing?
I'm not sure that this makes sense, so what I mean is....
I took photos in Oct 2007, moved them to a directory on my hard drive, reformated the card. I then took new photos on that card in Nov 2007 and when I place that card with those Nov 2007 photos into my computers card reader, Windows Explorer brings up the thumbnails of the Oct 2007 photos. If I click on one of th... Read more

I wanted to know be able to make a digital version of these flash cards so that I can only see the one language but when I press a button or select the word or phrase then it shows me the other language equivalent.

Answer:Help making flash cards for study a language?

you could probably find a way to do it in powerpoint. i'm not as familiar as i should be with ppt, but that would be the program i would try. cuz you can transition from one slide to the next by clicking - so i am sure there is a way to group the slides into sets of 2.
