Preferred Solution: My lenovo 120s ideapad keyboard wont work help!

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Nowhere in the documentation, web site is any info about what kind of controller and hence what size SD cards this model is supporting.Even Lenovo tech support doesn't know that info!I am really hesitant to buy a SDXC card of +32GB only to find out it supports on SDHC cards, thus limited to 32GB... thanks for any useful info, Ralf

Answer:What kind of SD card controller is in a Lenovo IdeaPad 120S-11AIP? SDHC or SDXC compatible?

Hi ITWorxLA,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

As per system overview :
IO port: Memory card slot (SD/SDHC/SDXC/MMC)

Platform specification:
One microSD Card slot, supports up to 2TB

Usually there would be stickers on the box or laptop to indicate the format it also supports.
You can try to find/borrow  a spare 32GB SDXC to test first before purchase.

Hope this helps answer your query.

Regards

I recently bought the ideapad 2in1 14" laptop/tablet.  When I put it in tablet mode, it won't bring up the on-screen keyboard.  I try to turn it on in settings and it says "could not start on-screen keyboard"  How do I fix this?  I already had to return the first one I bought because 4 of the keys wouldn't work.  Now this!  So frustrating.  I'm thinking of returning this one and staying away from Lenovo if I can't get it to work.  Can someone please help?

Hey suddenly the keyboard of my Lenovo Ideapad S10e stopped working completely. The touchpad still works and I can use an external keyboard.I have no idea what to do, can someone help me? Thanx

Answer:Lenovo Ideapad S10e keyboard doesn't work

could be software or hardware issue.

if it's software, try to un-install the application you installed lately, right click my computer > manage > device manager > keyboard > standard keyboard right click and select un-install, restart your computer and check if it works.

if it's hardware, for keyboard replacement, call lenovo and ship your laptop back.

I am a new owner of a Ideapad 120S purchased yesterday on Black Friday.I have mostly owned Dell laptops previously. I am guessing that when I power the laptop the first thing I need to do is create a backup on a USB flash drive. Any gotchas I should know about?

I have seen that on older models with emmc drive, there was an available m.2 slot on the motherboard where you could put in an m.2 drive. Can you do that in the ideapad 120s? I have the 11 inch model with emmc drive soldered to the motherboard. Thank you.

Now I don't actually know if this is the correct subject to put this on, but when I looked for it the settings it said my laptop is an Ideapad 120S-11IAP, so this is close enough. Essentially the title. Usually happens when I'm playing games set in a Google Chrome window (likely HTML urls). Help would be appreciated, as it's annoying as hell to want to peek at a Youtube video and then go back to the game to see my progress has been lost.

Hi! I've got Lenovo IdeaPad Yoga 13 Silver (https://www.alza.cz/EN/lenovo-ideapad-yoga-13-silver-d375124.htm), and while I am quite content with the device, my keyboard stopped working. I was wondering whether any of you might know and suggest an online reseller (official or otherwise), where I could get hold of a replacement keyboard. Now, I suppose backlit keyboard versions of newer Yoga laptops will not work I guess, will they? From what I have read Yoga 13 Silver does not have the slot required for backlit, but aside that, will the keyboard function and will it fit (dimension-wise)? If so, what is the voltage and current required? Would soldering a small battery to the backlit cable be a good idea (I accept the fact that I wouldn't be able to regulate it)? Thank you in advance!ck

Hello,  I recently got myself a LENOVO ideapad 310, like just about close to less than a month ago and have faced several issues.  My cursor will start to become pixelated sometimes and become the normal cursor again, this has happened since the very beginning, but I chose to ignore it as it does not really affect much of my experience using this notebook.  It was up until just now, when I decided to play a game of League of Legends (Its not very graphic intensive), that my keyboard suddenly malfunctioned in the middle of it. Not knowing what is the problem, I couldn't quit the game either as the game menu can only be accessed via the Esc key. The surface suddenly became quite hot and I forcefully turned off my laptop as I always believed that restarting your computer is always a solution.  After the ideapad turned off, I couldn't turn it on for quite awhile, until I decided to hold the power button while it's off. It then turned on but it could not load past the LENOVO logo screen with the small circle at the bottom. After waiting for a good 30 minutes or so, I decided to turn it off once again and use the NOVO button. All while doing that, I had turned on a fan and blew at my laptop at max speed hoping it would cool down.  After using the NOVO button and a few turn ons and offs, the laptop started working normally again, and here I am posting on the forums.  There is no issue now, it's working perfectly fine. I hav... Read more

Answer:lenovo ideapad z 570 keyboard problem

Hi jsaab, new to forum but thought I'd give my thoughts as I had a Y570. Could do with knowing which buttons malfunction and in which apps. It could be phyiscal ware,  such as the gamer keys WASD or the direction keys. It could be a temperature problem with malfunction happening after a certain uptime. If all keys feel OK and the same to type with then possibly a software problem. Try typing all keys into notepad and see if all produce correct alph-numerical characters. But do need to know which keys or key combos and in which apps

Hello, I need any help I can get.  I we hvae a Lenovo IdeaPad that suddenly wont boot up.  Was told there was a pop up warning about a battery that needed replaced, but unclear on WHICH battery.  When power button is pressed, the fan starts, runs for 3 seconds and shuts off.  The touchkey lights all light for a second then go out, except fo the volume touchkey.  No sound of spin up on HDD, no flicker on screen.  Have removed battery and tried to start on cord, with same result.  Cord tested good, with a clean 20.6 V  Have heard that dead/faulty CMOS battery can stop some laptops from starting, but unclear on where it is, or even a real possibility.

Answer:Lenovo IdeaPad z565 wont boot

I have heard that same rumour about the CMOS battery, but I've never seen a real live case, so I'm not so sure that it is true.
Your symptoms are indicative of a blown motherboard, but there is one more thing to try before concluding that.
Unplug the machine, remove the battery, then hold the power button depressed for at least 30 seconds, longer if your finger can stand it.
Then plug in and try to boot up.

Hello,  After 4 and a half months of not being able to use my laptop, I'm getting very frustrated about my brand new lenovo laptop. I bought my lenovo ideapad 700 in Germany in August (240V). I left in September for a year abroad in Japan and used my laptop on the first few days until the battery went down. After that I tried to turn the laptop back on again but nothing worked: no lights, no reaction, nothing. I was using an adapter to conevert the voltage of Germany to japan's voltage (100V). I tried with different chargers, adapters - I tried everything. I even went to a computer store here in japan but even the guy in the computer store did not know what was the problem. I also tried to unplug the battery (from the motherboard, I didn't actually screw it out) and held the power button for at least 30 seconds and tried to turn it on again - still nothing. I tried everything I could think of and with everyday, my frustration and disappointment in lenovo gets bigger. Please, I just want to use my laptop, help me..  Desperate regards,Robin

Hi  Elozino ,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

Can you remove the battery and charger then just press the power button for 15 seconds to drain remaining current inside.
Place back the battery and plug in the charger , use the Novo button to turn on and choose BIOS set up.
Press f9 to load default and f10 to save and exit.

Would there be any display using the Novo button (item1 page 7),

Answer:Lenovo IdeaPad P500 Wont Charge

Hi harveymilk,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

You can try the steps recommended under Power Check out of the hardware manual page 21.
Testing the AC adapter integrity itself can help isolate is the system board needs further checking specially if the machine would not turn on even without battery and just connected with a known good working AC adapter.

With a battery in, the power status and battery led should at least show up when connected to the adapter.

Update us how it goes.

I inserted a 32G Kingston SD card and initially the system recognised it and said it was downloading software. This eventually stopped but the card didn't show under This PC. I removed it and entered it again, this time nothing. I have followed a similar link on this community and downloaded the driver software, it said it loaded and installed but no effect. The driver doesn't even appear under the drivers section of control panel.

Hello, My laptop configuration:OS: Windows 10 64 bits (up-to-date)Model : Lenovo Ideapad Y700 15ISK (80NV)BIOS : CDCN37WW Five days ago the keyboard suddenly stopped to respond (nb : the Num Lock led remained on). I tried to restart Windows but since it could not (stucked on the reboot screen) I pressed the power button and heard a "clack" sound. When I restarted the computer the hard drive made some noices and the fans started to turn at high speed for ~3 seconds.NB : I upgraded to bios CDCN35WW few days before. After the incident I updated to CDCN37WW.  Today the problem happened again (keyboard not responding). Before trying to reboot I unpluged and pluged back my mouse (Lenovo gaming mouse). As I expected, it did not function once I pluged it back. I tried to log out before rebooting. At that time Windows crashed and I saw the BSOD for 1 second before the computer shut down and reboot showing the Novo Button Menu (the keyboard was still not responding at this time).I rebooted by pressing the power button, once again some worrysome electrical noices while I was doing so.The computer restarted and once again noices from the hard drive + fans at full speed. Any suggestion ? Are BIOS updates bugged ?Thanks in advance for any help.

Does anybody know is Lenovo Plan to bring out an updated keyboard for the Lenovo Flex 15D or Flex Series Ultrabooks? I have had mine now for 2 Weeks and am extremely hapy with its well built construction and its performance however it is missing a crucial peice of technology. A Backlit Keyboard. As Good as the keyboard is and my eyesight for that matter. This machine would seriously benifit from a Back Lit Keyboard. If anyone has any surgestions then please let me know.

Answer:Lenovo IdeaPad Flex 15D In Serious Need of Backlit Keyboard

I just purchased a flex 15D a noticed that upon start up, there's lighting behind the keyboard, and (being new to PC laptops) it took me two nights to figure out that the only way to turn it on is Fn+space.

I'm not exactly sure when this started, but currently, when I type 15 on my 10-key, it automatically displays it as 1a5. This only happens when I type 15 quickly. If I pause between the 1 and the 5, it doesn't do it.  This probably won't be much of an issue once 2016 shows up, but it's been a bit annoying since it started happening. I'm just wondering if this is some sort of keyboard shortcut that I accidentally turned on and can fix it simply? Any help would be appreciated.  Thanks

Hey people have just got a lenovo ideapad z510 and it doesnt have a backlit keyboard !! does anyone know where i can buy a replacement keyboard for it or how i can chage it to backlit if possible ? Thanks

Answer:Lenovo Ideapad Z510 Keyboard change !

hi kevinbutler92,

Welcome to the Forums.

Changing the stock non-backlit keyboard to a backlit one is possible.

To change it:
 1. You will need a compatible Z510 backlit keyboard. As per page 100-103 of the hardware maintenance manual, the compatible part numbers are:

Chicony Backlight KBPart#: 25213721Part#: 25213723

Sunrex Backlight KBPart#: 25213752Part#: 25213754

Darfon Backlight KBPart#: 25213681

2. Ensure that there's a keyboard power connector on the motherboard as this is required for the backlight feature to work. To replace he keyboard, follow page33-36 of the hardware maintenance manual.

Looking around, I haven't found a seller of the compatible backlit keyboard above so this will most likely be the challenging part.

It seems Lenovo made the right Shift key half its normal size and stuck the page up key next to it on the right. Every time I go to shift, (to capitalize the 1st letter of my sentence of when I type a name) I hit page up and my cursor jerks up to the next line (or several lines). This is beyond annoying!!!! Unfortunately I just realized this after I brought the computer home from Best Buy. Who the heck would look at the keyboard if all the letters and symbols and other keys are at the right place where they belong? I am used to the "normal" keyboard settings since 20 years and whenever I bought a new laptop I never checked the keyboards. I have no idea how I will re-train myself to reach waaaaaaay to the right with my right pinky to hit the Shift key. Anyone has a good suggestion?

I'm trying to remove the Lenovo Ideapad Z580 keyboard, as I'm having keyboard issues and common symptoms on the internet seem to suggest that my internal keyboard connector is loose. Now I followed the directions on the Service Manual but one of the steps, after removing the necessary screws, seems to require me to press on the keyboard from behind. However no matter how much force I apply the keyboard doesn't pop out and I'm nervous about applying more force/trying more, as the tools I use to try and push the keyboard out are making marks. I've made sure a dozen times and more that all the necessary screws were out but no dice. Do I have to apply more force? Am I pushing it the wrong way? The manual is a bit unclear on this step. Help!  The keyboard desperately needs to be corrected, as it goes through periods of 30 min.- an hour of spastic non-function and I really need it to not happen to me during important work sessions.

Answer:Removing the Lenovo Ideapad Z580 keyboard

Hi martyback, welcome to the forums,

the keyboard needs to be pressed down and gently pushed towards the front of the system and then lifted from the rear of the keyboard. If your tools are making marks they're probably metal? Try using something thin and made of plastic like a credit card.

Don't know if you've already found them, but you could look at the Lenovo movies.  Go to FRU Videos > FRU Service Keyboard.  (Also not exactly how I describe it above, but may be of help).

I've been using this laptop for around a year or so now, and it's worked perfectly up until this point in time.  The issue that I'm currently having is entirely mechanical. At the moment, my keyboard is intact and works just fine. However, if I press a key, (mainly the 'e' key) off-center, it pops the entire key up and I have to click it into place. It's not life-threatening or crucial to the machine's function, but when I am busy typing papers or lesson plans, having a key on the most constantly used vowel key continually pop up really puts a dampener in things. I've taken the key out and have tried to click it back in. While I can't see what's going on (given that there's a key in the way!), I can most certainly feel it clicking into place twice, both clicks stemming from the right side of the 'e' key. It seems that, to the best of my knowledge, only two out of four prongs that are meant to keep the key in place and in line are actually snapping and holding the key down. Whenever I type off-center and to the right, the entire left side of the key snaps up and must be pushed back into place. I'm wondering if there's anything I can or should do. Given that I've had my machine for over a year now, I'm unsure if my warranty still covers it (speaking of, is there a way to check warranty status online?). Please, if anyone has any advice on how to fix or replace a busted key/keyboard, please, let me know!

Answer:Lenovo Ideapad Y580 - Keyboard Issue

A replacement keyboard (chicony, oki, or dafon are the makers - be sure to look for the manufacturer label and p/n right below the lenovo p/n on the back to get a genuine keyboard) would make a good spares, they are about $30 on ebay. I replaced a broken key on a few different laptops but much prefer to swap out the entire keyboard.  Once a single key goes bad it's likely that more keys will start to fail (note that 'e' is perhaps the most commonly used key on your keyboard because it's the most popular vowel.  Other popular keys like 't' might be failing sometime soon).  So I would suggest you buy a spare keyboard and save it until you can't live without it, the procedure to replace the keyboard is a 10 minute swap. If you want to replace a key, a sharp tipped (xacto-style) knife blade, and a loupe (magnifying lens) are important accessories.  Buy from a reputable site which has good instructions ( http://www.laptopkey.com/ ).  Unfortunately, the key and hinge are manufacturer-specific (OKI, Chicony, Dafon, see above) so you will need to determine it from the guide on www.laptopkey.com.  When I fixed our Acer c720 I also used needlenose pliers to bend a metal tab back into place, the key hinge wasn't seating correctly because the metal tab had bent and was open too wide.  The Acer c720 has a nightmare keyboard to replace with 75 different locking plastic tabs that bind it to the undersize of the palmrest, so i had little choi... So, I have to restart my computer in order to get it to work again and my touchpad is not working not matter what I try. This happened after a Windows 8 Update that occured yesterday so I am not sure if it has anything to do with the issues. If anyone has solutions, it would be very much appreciated.

Hello, I have a Lenovo Ideapad G510, bought about two years back. I am facing a keyboard issue. The moment I sign-in to my dektop, it keeps on refreshing. Similarly, even if I open chrome, the page keeps on refreshing. I think the refresh button on the keyboard is getting pressed on its own. When I disable the keyboard, I don't face this issue anymore. I have scanned my laptop but didnt get any virus or anything. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Regards,Ujjawal

Answer:Regarding Keyboard Issue - Lenovo Ideapad g510

Hi ujjawalgk,

Welcome to the Community,

Try doing the following:

Get an external keyboard and disable onboard keyboard. See if issue happens.

If this is not the case then it is hardware and probably you nailed it on the nose by saying that it might be the key being stuck.

I would try to clean the keyboard, you can:

Turn off machine and unplug it
Tilt keyboard and gently shake up and down, additionally compressed air might do the job.

Hope these tips help.

And for some reason, a Novo Button Menu showed up. I tried to press enter (because it is already highlighted on Normal Startup) and it wont. Then I remembered that my keyboard isn't working! I don't know what to do. I tried to press the power button to shut it off but nothing happened. Please help me! This is the first time i have problems in this pc. I don't know what to do..

Hi, the latptop is only about 2.5 months old now... 3 weeks ago randomly the keyboard's keys on the laptop itself stopped working. No clue why, Ive checked drivers, did a reboot, tried safe mode, etc... It's only on the laptop itself. The keys that work are tyhg caps lock num lock and maybe a couple others... Ive never spilled anything on the laptop nor have I ever dropped it. I was in love with this laptop for the price I paid for it at Best Buy until the keyboard stopped working on it... It just randomly happened and I'm not sure why. The keys don't appear to stick or anything like that... (normal keystrokes just nothing happens in result of clicking them) I am using a keyboard plugged into it right now... I really need to get this fixed and I'm very upset at the fact it happened just 2 months after the purchase... So that cancels out my bestbuy 1 month warranty right there. I really can't deal with this much longer considering the fact that I was planning to use this laptop for my work.. If I can't get a simple easy fix I will have to find something new somewhere else... sorry to say. Praying for an easy solution/fix.

Hello. I have lenovo ideapad 300-15IBR and I want to replace my ordinary keyboard by backlight keyboard. So could you tell me if is it possible? Is my laptop compatible with backlit keyboard?

Answer:Lenovo ideapad 300-15IBR backlit keyboard?

Hi tachilla,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

Checking the general specification for IdeaPad 300 (15'') Platform Speci?cations here, backlit keyboard features is not available to similar model types 80Q7 as the motherboard does not offer power connection for the keyboard backlit as shown from the hardware manual FRU keyboard list pages 78-81.

No power connection portSample keyboard with backlit cable

You can follow the keyboard guide here on page 40-41 of the hardware manual to physical check on your motherboard model as it may not likely be compatible with a backlighted keyboard making it not possible to upgrade.

Hope this helps answer your query.

The laptop monitor has 1920x1080 resolution, but the second one got 1440x900 resolution. Evening AllMy computer must have realised I was looking up component parts to build a new PC because it seems to have gone off in a huff and stopped working.I was doing some photo editing in Adobe Bridge, it froze, so I rebooted. When I rebooted, I decided to install a copy of Lightroom that I had because Bridge had frozen a couple of times lately. Anyway, during the install process, my PC made the beep that it normally makes during boot up, then it flickered and restarted itself. When it got to the screen that gives you the option to begin in Safe Mode, I couldn't because my keyboard had stopped working. When it timed out and tried to open normally, a blue screen flashed (I couldn't read what it said) and it rebooted. I've tried Del and checked the settings in there, but don't really know what I'm looking for, but the keyboard let me move around in the menus. Came out of there and the keyboard wouldn't work at the Safe Mode screen again. Rebooted again, this time, tried F9 which is the Xpress Recovery menu, but again, the keyboard wouldn't let me do anything. Although, not sure I wanted to choose anything from that menu anyway.I've had similar issues happen in the past, but have always been able to access windows in safe mode and use a restore point.I've searched for variations of this problem on here, but there's so many different situations I thought I'd just post again. Apologies if I've missed the answer somewhere else.Would appreciate any help or shoving in the right di... Read more

*************** SOLVED *************Hi there !   I really need your help this is very concerning. My PC is an Ideapad 100S-14IBR. While I was typing some text in college, my hardware (touchpad and keyboard) stopped responding and the text editor kept on writing the last key I pressed, as if kept it pressed. Not concerned, I just hard rebooted because I was stuck. This hasn't solved the issue, both my touchpad and keyboard are still unresponsive. When booting, pressing F12 to acces boot menu doesn't work either (used to work). The keyboard isn't even recognised in boot... this makes me think the problem is a lot more serious thant what I thought At home, I did a complete reinstall of the system with a USB keyboard and mouse plugged after saving my works. Reinstalling didn't solve the problem, the touchpad and keyboard still don't work. I checked and I have both mouse and keyboard drivers, all up to date. The Windows Diagnosing Utility didn't find anything. Lenovo System Update doesn't give me any result too.How can I fix this please ? Help will be greatly appreciated. I need this computer for work :/ Thanks

I have an older Ideapad z570, it made a popping sound and it won't power up now either.  I ordered a replacement adapter from lenovo thinking that was the issue as the light on the adapter was not coming on when it was plugged in.

After reading some of these boards, it appears I might have an issue with the mother board.  I would like to see abou getting it replaced, but there are no repair centers close to me, and I cannot find any information on Lenovo's webiste as to who I can contact or where I can send it.
And information to this end would  be greatly appreciated.  Sorry to tack on to this thread, but seemed silly to create another one for the same issue.

Thanks,

After only being able to do anything in safe mode I booted it up but I couldn't get the drivers program onto the computer because safe mode doesn't let you do alot.  I then decided to just do a reset within the windows recovery program. I pressed save personal documents and reset. Now when I turn on my idea pad it just shows a black screen with the loading circle spinning forever

I cannot seem to change my 45 years of touch typing experience to accomadate this major change.  It makes no sense.  Is anyone else having this issue and what if anything can be done about it?

Hi All,I have a Z400 touch. The keys "8", "I", "K", and "< ," are not working, even in safe mode. I strongly suspect it is due to dust, and I should clean under the keys. My question is; is it okay to pry those keys off the board directly with a screwdriver? Or would it get damaged? EDIT: I bought this machine in 2014, used it as my primary computer until around March 2017, after which I've been using a different laptop. I'm trying to rejuvenate my old laptop at the moment, so it could be used by someone else. Thanks.

Answer:Lenovo laptop keyboard " Ideapad " Type Z510

Hi OMARDAKAR ,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

Using the part number for your keyboard on your search would allow you to find compatible and available keyboard in your location faster . You may use the parts lookup page to get it (just keep your serial number confidential) that would show your Machine model number and likewise FRU part number for your keyboard.

You can try it match it from the FRU keyboard part number list from the hardware manual (page100-103).

Update us with the Machine model number if needed .
Hope this help answer your query.

Regards
