Boot Error Mystery. T430S 2101: Detection error on HDD2 (mini sata), BUT I don't use a Mini SATA

Question: Boot Error Mystery. T430S 2101: Detection error on HDD2 (mini sata), BUT I don't use a Mini SATA

Hi. I have a T430s (original owner). At boot-up, I receive a "2101: Detection error on HDD2 (mini sata)", BUT I don't use a Mini SATA!! Windows 10; All drivers current via Lenovo system update (incl. bios 2.69).I have a Crucial SSD drive; I have verified Crucial SSD has latest firmware.I do not have (and have not had) a Mini SATA card installed - this is why the error is so weird to me.I DID recently change the Wifi Switch and cable (which is when the error started showing)The wires that would feed the Mini SSD are still covered with tape from the factory (I forget the colors)I have removed the battery, internal battery and power (and rebooted). I have reseated the SSD and the DVD drive (and rebooted).I do not have Express software installed; the software that would control the Mini SATA drive (I can't see any "express" software in Add / Remove programs) Can you help me with this annoying mystery?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I got this error out of the blue the other day on startup, and now I get it every time I restart.  I have tried a number of solutions that I found in these forums (which I'll outline below) but it seems like my system just can't find the drive anymore.  Here's what I've done: 1. ran the ExpressCache program via Command Prompt (eccmd.exe -info) and got this error:  "**ERROR** ECCmd Request device is not available"2. unistalled the ExpressCache software, shut down, pulled the battery opened up the memory module slot cover, removed the mSATA drive and then re mounted it.3.  reinstalled ExpressCache4.  I'm trying to reformat the drive, but I am receiving similar errors     a.  When I try to format the drive (eccmd.exe -format) I get the following error:  HFS Volume is not mounted  **ERROR**  ECCmd Requested device is not available     b.  When I try to create a partition (eccmd.exe -partition) I get the following error:  0x10df (4319).  I looked this up and maybe there are system files missing? I have also tried this but it then says "There is NO mSATA detected, please check mSATA attached" http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/research/hints-or-tips/detail.page?DocID=HT073737 If anyone has any advice, please let me know.

Answer:2101 detection on HDD2 (mini sata) error on my T430

Hello and welcome,

None of the symptoms you describe sound to me like software issues. There is something wrong with the mSATA SSD, or the controller that accesses it - or it needs to be re-inserted in its socket.

Is this machine under warranty?  I'd suggest calling support and running this by them.  They may suggest re-seating the device in its socket, or may offer replacement or some other option.  I don't speak for Lenovo, just offering my personal suggestion.

I ordered the mSata mini 128GB card to go into the half size slot under thge keyboard.  However when I boot I get:  "2101: Detection error on HDD2 (Mini SATA)".  I thought that a half size drive would work, as it does it my Lenovo W520.  However it appears the BIOS does not recognize it.  It does however recognize it in my W520. Has anyone else successfully added a second drive internally to the X1 Carbon Touch? http://www.mfactors.com/msata-mini-half-size-sataiii-ssd-128gb-64gb/

Answer:X1 Carbon - "2101: Detection error on HDD2 (Mini SATA)"

Hello and welcome,

No personal experience here, but I do see this note on the page you linked:

Note: Only works with systems with mSATA standard connector. NOT compatible with Mini PCIe slot for WWAN/wireless cards

The way I read the Hardware Maintenance Manual  that slot is WWAN only, not a WWAN/mSATA combo slot.  Could be wrong.

Except of rare cases with some Crucial (or Corsair, didn't remember) and Samsung drives. Also do not use OCZ drives.

You have a brand new system. You should call tech support and have them resolve it.A support tech can remote into your system and fix it. Also they can check for other issues which may be the cause. This save a lot of time.

That error is coming from BIOS, it means there is something wrong detecting the mSATA SSD.  It could point to a hardware problem.  It is definitely not a software problem.  I would call the support line in your country, and ask what they recommend about it.

Model: T450sEquiped as:Intel i54+4GB RAM256GB SSD (M.2) Configured as boot disk running Win 7 x64500GB HDD as additional storage Issue:Seemingly at random, approx once every one to two weeks while PC is on and at the desktop but not actively being used (meaning no user is sitting in front of it performing tasks) it will error and crash.  The error is a black screen with the following error: 2101: Detection error on SSD1 (M.2) Press Esc to continue. According to the user Esc does nothing and the only escape is to long press the physical power button until a power down occurs.  On reboot the system comes up without issue.  No user has actually seen the crash take place.   MY QUESTION(S):1st.  Is this most likely an issue with the T450s not being able to reliably boot from the m.2 slot or is this more likely an issue with the SSD installed in the m.2 slot?2nd.  Is this something altogether different?  Any (knowledgeable) advice or info appreciated.

Answer:T450s Thinkpad - ERROR 2101: Detection error on SSD1 (M.2)

It is hard to diagnose without seeing it, but my experience has been that the Gen4 and later CPUs (like yours) support a very low power state that is incompatible with some devices. (that would make it a problem with the card) Make sure you have the latest BIOS and power manager software installed. Look in the device manager and find the M.2 SSD. There should be a power management tab. Turn off the option to allow the system shut the device off to save energy.

I get the following message when I turn on the laptop: 2101: Detection error on SSD (M.2) The laptop (T560) is new and was only received on the 13 May 2016.  When it occurs I run thediagnostics and can usually get the machine to boot up. However, the error then reoccurs at a later stage, usually if the machine has been idle for a while.  I have lodged a service call with Lenovo but thought I would share my experience here and see if anyone else has the same issue?

Hi, I just received my T430 about 4 days ago and it's working perfectly until I was trying to install important windows updates. As I was rebooting my laptop after the installation (which fails everytime I don't know why), my computer gave me a loud beep and a error code of 2101 detection error. So I searched this forum and found this solution http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/downloads/detail.page?DocID=HT074404 from another post that had the same problem as mine.As i was following the steps,( i did cmd, uninstalled express cache, and did disk managment) but as i went on my disk management i could not find my mSATA. I have a 16 gb mSATA and it was working perfectly fine before. I've noticed on my reboot that it took longer to load and the error message would then come up.So my problem is that I cannot view my mSATA disk on my disk managementThankyou!

Answer:2101 Detection Error: Cannot view my mSATA

The Error 2101: Detection error on HDDx miniSata is a BIOS error. This has nothing to do with the operating system you have installed or any drivers. During the POST, the system does not see the miniSata drive. I (like some others) received my new T530 recently, setup it all up and then a few hours later received this error. The solution is simple. You must open up your ThinkPad. Remove the two keyboard screws and remove the keyboard and RE-SEAT the miniSata drive. There is 1 screw holding the board down. Remove it, re-insert it in. Screw everything back up and voila, no more issue. Go to the Lenovo / ThinkPad Guides and Manuals page for your device (http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/guides-and-manuals/default.page?) and download the Hardware Maintenance Manual for your ThinkPad. There are clear instructions (for those less inclined) on how to remove the keyboard. You do NOT need to disconnect the ribbon cable. Simple / carefully slide the keyboard forward and the miniSata drive will be visible and accessible. You can also use the ExpressCache program to get stats on the miniSata drive and see how it is working. Open a Command Prompt (in Administrator Mode) and issue the command: eccmd -info   -   Display ExpressCache activity informatio eccmd -?   -  Will show you all options eccmd -format   - Will reformat and clear the cache drive. Hopefully, this will help out those out there with this issue. I know this may not be in the right section. I refuse to post in the Mac section as I've never gotten anything useful there.

I'm looking for a firewire Connector cable. NOT an external drive bay. I work on a lot of older Macs and would love to store my OS disks on older drives to boot from. Also faster transfers from failed ibooks to new systems would be another plus. I've googled until my fingers are raw, and haven't found what I want. USB I can get by the truck load. Please only post if you can point me to where these exist, or can tell me why they don't exist.
Thanks

Hello all, I received by brand new T430s about 48 hours ago.  On the initial startup, I had a mini SATA detection error.  Not a good first impression, but anyways, that issue was supposedly resolved after the customer support rep directed me to install some updates. How can I tell if the disk is working correctly?  I've been running the computer with the task manager open, and so far my "Disk 1" (SanDisk SSD U100 16GB) has shown zero activity, even when the C: drive and CPU are operating at near 100%.  Also, the stats in the bottom right show 0 MB formatted, can that be right? Thanks for your help!

Hi,

To make sure I am understanding the issue correctly: You have a normal HDD as your C:/ drive, but you also have an SSD for additional storage, correct? If you navigate to Computer, are both drives listed? Also, where exactly are you seeing the stats of "0 MB formatted"?

Best,
Adam

I have a mini pcie mSATA card that I want to use for a desktop of mine. Kingston sm200s3 60GB

I believe there are only 2 options.
1. SATA > SATA adapter > mSATA card
2. PCIe slot > PCI adapter > mSATA card.

As far as 2. goes; I have found a card that fits into a PCIe slot which has an input for the mSATA card.

I know that this is not the ideal way to hook up the card but I don't see any more options.

Which is there better way to go or what am I missing?

Answer:Mini PCIe and adapter VS. SATA

Whatever has an mSATA interface for it will work.

From here SSD Kingston 60GB SM200S3/60G mSATA p/ Ultrabook,tablet - Atera Inform?tica

its a SATA 3 device, so for optimal performance you should use something that can guarantee enough bandwith to not bottleneck it.

PCIe bandwith depends from number of lanes used (a x1 card has one lane, a x2 card has two and so on) and the PCIe revision/version of both devices. The panel on the right here gives all speeds https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PCI_Express so just multiply that by the number of lanes the card has and you will find out its bandwith. SATA 3 has 6 GB/s of theoretical max bandwith, although actual transfer speed does not go above 1 GB/s afaik.

This Mini PCIe PCI E mSATA Intel Samsung SSD SATA 3 III Adapter Card with Case | eBay

this SATA III Dual Port to mSATA X 2 w/ PCI-e Bracket | MSATA-2XS3-BKT

are examples of what you listed as 1, and stuff I would orient myself towards if my mobo had SATA 3 connectors already. Because... hey, why waste PCIe slots for that?

I've read a lot about the 2101 Detection Error of mSATA issue on x220 with mSATA other than intel 310 installed. Last year I purchased a W520 and an Intel 310 mSATA. They worked fine together untill yesterday. I have windows 7 enterprice 64bit installed on the mSATA and linux installed on an SSD. I have a 500GB HDD installed in the ultrabay, as a shared data volume shared by Windows and Linux. Everytime I try to boot windows, it fails. And during the next reboot, the "2101 Detection Error" shows up. To try to solve this problem I have the mSATA reseated and the 2101 error disappears, until I try to boot windows again. Everything works fine IF I ONLY BOOT LINUX. 2101 Detection Error shows up everytime I TRY TO BOOT WINDOWS UP. I've updated the UEFI BIOS to the latest version which is 1.36 but the problem is still there. I've used the lenovo diagnosis tool (bootable usb) to run a set of quick tests and no error detected (except for drive self test either not supported or not passed). Please find the configuration of my laptop below:======================================W520-4270CTOCPU:                                 I7 2720 QMMEMORY:                        16GB (4GB SAMSUNG X 4)VIDEO:                   ... Is it possible to install a MINI PCIE SATA xxGB SSD in a 3t?  I read that Lenovo is working some cool software that would allow this and treat the SSD & the Disk Drive as one.  But since I have been for years using multiple drives at home & at work, it wouldn't matter to me if they had different drive designators. I'd love to load the OS and a few programs onto the MINI PCIE SATA xxGB SSD and use the hard drive for a data drive.  I would expect it to be faster with potentially a battery improvement (another device is more power draw but less usage on the HDD.  Which way would it net out, avings or increase in power?). This probably relates to the "whitelist" which seems to be a black eye for Lenovo.  Does any PCIE card need to be on the whitelist or just the catagories listed?   Thanks,Nick

Hi everyone

I have a SATA hard drive in my desktop PC, which I am now getting rid of. I want to reuse the SATA drive with my new Mac Mini, and I think the only option is to use it in an external enclosure and attach it via the firewire interface.

Can anyone point me towards somewhere that will be able to supply me with the parts I need? I have tried one seller on eBay but he has been particularly vague on whether the caddy he supplies is supported!

Thanks for reading

Answer:Solved: Using a SATA hard disk from PC with Mac Mini

You can use either FireWire or USB and it is a shame that FireWire 800 enclosures are so expensive ($60-75) as it would be twice as fast as USB or FireWire 400.
Here is an enclosure made to look like a Mac accessory for $35.00 http://www.adorama.com/MACGS350SUA....ping Site&utm_campaign=Other&utm_source=gbase

Answer:Mini SAS to SATA cable - quick question

"Connectors: Mini SAS SFF-8087 (Host) to 4 x 7 way SATA latch type connectors (target) and 1 x 8 way sideband connector".

From a little bit of googling, those sideband connectors are for extenders, LEDs, connecting to backplanes, etc. You don't have to use it, if that helps deciding if you should buy one that has that connector.

Hi, I wonder if anyone experienced the same problem with T430s sutting in Mini Dock Series 3. I have got all external devices connected via Mini Docl Series 3: keyboard, mouse, Dell U2411 monitor with USB hub, ethernet, power and eventually phone via USB.  System is dual boot with two disks running both Windows 7 or Ubuntu 12.10. If I connect Dell monitor USB hub before power on computer then my external USB keyboard is available to type disk password and then it is dropped if I try to make a choice in GRUB boot loaded.  No lights or anything on USB keyboard.  If I use ThinkPad keyboard to make a choice the system to boot then eventually keyboard would activated. In case I disconnect Dell monitor USB hub then T430s boots ok with no issues related to external USB keyboard. Other tests show if I disable Wireless WAN and/or WiMAX options in BIOS then I may boot with Dell monitor hub connected and external USB keyboard behaves as expected.  It looks like Linux reports WAN adapter as USB device.  I am not able to disable WAN adapter because I am using it eventually. Any ideas?  It looks like T430s does not like external USB devices connected on boot however it is contrary whole idea of using dockstation to keep external devices always connected on a workspace.  Oleg

The mother board has 4 SATA connectors:
SATA0, SATA2 grouped together
SATA1, SATA3 grouped together
Could someone help me identify the high speed SATA-6 connectors.  Have searched the net but can't find which of the connectors are high speed for optimal SSD performance.
Thanks

Answer:Optiplex 7040 Mini Tower SATA port specs

Theres no such thing as sata 6
Sata 3 would be ports 0 and 1 per the chipset.

Hy together, Last week i orderd the X201 Tablet with the following Data's: CPU: Intel Core i5-560MHDD: 500GB (7200 rpm)RAM: 1x4GB (PC3-8500 DDR3 SDRAM 1067MHz)WWAN: not built in but upgradeable My Question is now, can I build in an SATA PCIe Mini Card SSD in the place of the WWAN Module instead and boot the System over this SSD? Have someone tryed it before? Have someone tryed another PCIe Mini Card SSD (in the X201 Tablet) and can me tell something about  it.  I like to take this SSD: (Have some expirience with this SSD?) http://www.storagereview.com/intel_ssd_310_series_80gb_review Really thanks to all of you  Good night from Austria,Robert

Answer:Intel SSD 310 Series 80GB (SATA PCIe Mini Card)

the slots in your X201T are mPCIe, not mSATA.   while they are the same form factor they're electrically routed differently.   unfortunately the intel 310 card won't work in your system.

Hello,
I have a newly home built MSI AM1i motherboard and have it running fine with Windows 8.1. I am trying to expand the number of SATA ports it has (comes with only 2). The mobo has a mini-PCIe card slot.
I purchased a AsMedia 106x, 2-port, mini-PCIe card (had to use a ribbon-cable extender to get it connected).
That all appears to be fine. I struggled a bit with drivers, but eventually found a Windows 7 AsMedia 106x driver set. Loaded that, seems ok.
Problem: When I go to device mgr, it does not see the added 2-ports. When I first boot up, during the black-screen phase, it does report that the AsMedia device is loading and will actually find/name a hard drive that I attach to one of the new ports. It then almost looks like it will load windows, give the nice little blue windows 8 flag and just sits there. I can hear a drive cycle every 2-3 seconds, but nothing.
I eventually have to hit the power button to shut down. If I disconnect the drive added to the new card, it will start up. The AsMedia device looks to load during a black-screen phase, but reports no device found, and then loads Win 8 Correctly. When I get in, again, no SATA ports shown for the new device.
Any help/advice would be greatly appreciated.

Answer:Mini-PCIe SATA-card is not recognized by MSI AM1i mobo

Usually the mini PCIe slot is reserved for Wireless Nic cards.

Hi guys, I'm trying to add an additional Hard Drive to my new computer. I can see that the only way to power the drive is to connect directly to the motherboard where there are 2 very small 4-pin SATA power ports. For the life in me I can't find the Lenovo Part Number for the cable here in the UK but I've found the following cable at ModDIY - There's no part number but it could be what I'm looking for: Lenovo Mini 4-Pin to SATA Power  Can anybody confirm that this is what I'm looking for and is it available anywhere in the UK? Cheers :-)

Hi all!

My gf laptop suddenly acting up today.

First, it decided that it doesn't want to load up Microsoft Office 2007. She was trying to open a ppt file but it did not work.

Second, she turned it off (apparently there were some updates and she choose "shut down without installing updates". I don't know if this is relevant). When she tried to turned it on again a few hours after this msg came up:

For Realtek RTL8101E/8102E PCI-E Ethernet Controller v.1.08 (080408)
PXE-E61: Media test failure, check cable
PXE-MOF: Exiting PXE ROM.
Operating System not found

And we can't go further than that anymore.

Tried to check the boot squence and it is HDD, USB Storage, CD/DVD/CD-RW, Removable Devices, Network Boot.

Please bare in mind Dell Mini 9 doesn't come with CD Rom device.

Andddd...She just told me that when she shut it down, she yanked out the power cable when the screen still showing the windows shut down. Could that be the reason for the laptop failure in detecting the HDD??

Thanks a lot for your kind attention and help guys!! Really2 appreciate it!

Hello everybody, I know that there are some other posts with this error message. But they all appear on other devices and none of them has a solution which is working for me. I got a T430s back from one of our users which showed this error (mentioned in subject) when booting. I had no no chance to enter BIOS too. 1. I copied all partitions to another SSD and replaced it => the error came up again after few days=> so I thought it must be an hardware issue concerning the internal SATA-connector2. I put the SSD in a completely new device and ordered a replacement of the mainboard because there was waranty left on the older device.3. Yesterday they came and replaced the mainboard of the older device.4. Today the user came back with the same error on the new device with the new SSD In every case it helps to remove the SSD one time and insert it again - then the SSD is detected correctly - until the error appears again after few days of usage. The only thing I did not try until now is to insert the SSD in the old device with the new mainboard. Before I forget this: BIOS is Ver. 2.52 (I see there is 2.54 available since few days, but change log does not say something important - gonna check that later and post it) Any ideas? Thx Martin

Answer:T430s - 2100: Detection error on HDD0 (Main HDD)

check with the OEM of the SSD drive. You did not mention the Make/model of the SSD. Maybe there is a firmware update for the SSD drive. Especially since the 430 has SATA3 interface. If its not hardware you'd need to assess what you're doing software wise in the "copied all partitions ot another SSD..." I have found out cloning can cause problems and partitions become misaligned. When I went ahead to fix the misalignment with Mini partition Manager it corrupted the registry and so other files. Various applications cannot be updated or uninstalled. I have to reimage it and not clone from the source to get it right.A quick test is to just to a base install on one of the SSD's (EG Windows 7) after purging all the partitions. Letting the OS configure, partition & format the NTFS drive. If it works after that then its not the hardware and a software issue. My thoughts anyway.

Hello,I have SSD installed into mSATA slot and 9mm HDD installed into ultrabay slot with HDD adapter. But I REMOVED the original 7mm HDD and now there is nothing in regular hard drive slot. After restart, there is a couple of beeps and error message " 2100: Detection error on HDD0 (Main HDD) press ESC to continue", and booting proceeds only after I press ESC. Before that there was no such error. Laptop still boots well from SSD and HDD in ultrabay works well, but this error during startup is annoying at least.Laptop Thinkpad T430s. Is there any way to disable SATA port that corresponds to HDD0 (may be in BIOS?) or any other way to get rid of the error? The HDD in Ultrabay slot is 9mm, so I think there is no way to fit it into main HDD slot. Thanks!

I am posting here what I posted to the HP Forum. I post here because at HP a message may sit unanswered.

Here is the difficulty:

During boot the message starts with '1796 Sata Cable Error' and indicates the color of the cable and that there will be a performance issue. I have four hard drives and one cd drive. I have in every fashion changed the insert arrangement and what ever I do I get the 1796 error. In fact I disconnected all sata cables except for the primary boot drive - and I get 1796 error. And yes the Bios is updated - this machine, Windows 7 Pro runs with 32 GB memory.

I would ignore the message but I keep losing after boot my G: drive. In fact occassionally during boot the system runs a chkdsk on G drive. No errors of course. However I will end up now and then with G drive missing. I then need to reboot to reclaim G drive. I have run SCP and Chkdsk.

In fact drive G (WD 1 TB) I did download the WD Diag utility. All the drives, Western Digital passed, and drive G I even ran the extended test - and it passed.

Thus my conclusion is that I need to fix that cable situation - and be free from any future 1796 boot errors. Is there a remedy?

Thanks!

Answer:HP Boot Sata Cable Error

From what you say is that i think your SATA cable or the slot may be faulty one, Remove all sata cables from all slots and hard drives, connect one SATA at a time in one slot with BOOTING hard disk and try to BOOT and see whether you got same error in all slots and cables with single hard disk to make sure where is the original fault was.

Wonder if anyone can shed any light on this problem......

I have a strange error with my desktop. I booted by computer today into Win XP SP2, logged in and walked away for 30 mins or so. On returning to the computer I found that instead of being logged into Win XP as I had left it, it was waiting at the post BIOS boot screen with the message 'INSERT SYSTEM DISK' or words to that affect.

I pressed CNTL+ALT+DEL and waited for drives to be autodetected and noticed that only my PATA DVD had been found but the SATA HDD was not found. I waited for the message to re-appear about the lack of a system volume and when it did I powered off and waited 10 seconds or so before pressing the power button again.

This time the internal speaker played several beeps but not a message reported in my BIOS manual. Sort of accending notes followed by a loud buzz. The BIOS reports memory at single channel, normal, then attempts to find drives but seems to not do anything more except play the same beeps from the speaker every 10 seconds or so. On pressing Delete to enter BIOS the message changes but it never goes into the BIOS configuration.

Has anyone seen this occur before??

Need to know whether this could be software rather than a hardware problem.

I have a system that is NOT new, but now will not boot up after hanging. I am running a Seagate 80 GB SATA drive with Windows 2000, and a 2-year old MSI mobo. This SATA drive was my master, with a slave IDE drive and 2 CD/DVD-ROM drives.

I tried Spinrite data recovery and diagnostics, as well as Seagate diagnostic software to no avail. It never gave me any drive errors. I also ran a basic chkdsk in Windows recovery console mode.

After several boot tries and plugging/unplugging various hardware, I am now only trying to boot with one DVD/CD drive and my single SATA drive as the master. Settings in BIOS have been checked, tried to do a Windows repair, but Windows can't find the WINNT folder on my master drive to repair. Also, when attempting a boot, I get an ATAPI incompatible error for the master drive. Of course it's ATAPI incompatible! Why is it looking for an ATAPI drive, when it should be looking for SATA as the master? Again, I have checked and double-checked my BIOS settings.

Any help will be much appreciated.

Hi,
I have installed a new WD Raptor 74GB SATA HDD into my system and I am having trouble getting my PC to boot from it. Below are the steps I've already taken;

Mounted drive in case and connected all leads, data lead connected to SATA channel 2;

Fired up PC, new drive recognised by BIOS. Formatted and partitioned in XP using Partition Magic 8;

Used Casper XP to clone original C: drive to new drive. (This is a fantastic little program and has never failed before);

Rebooted PC, changed drive boot order in BIOS and Nvidia boot manager;

PC will not boot, error message PXE-E61 Media Test Cable / PXE-M0F Exiting PXE ROM / Invalid Partition Table;

Disconnected other 2 HDDs (IDE), Rebooted PC using XP CD into Recovery Console, cloned XP install recognised on new drive as C:, used fixmbr;

Rebooted PC, still receiving PXE error messages;

PLEASE HELP!!!

I wanted to get some files off an IDE hard disk I'd previously had on RAID before I removed it and the RAID board from the PC deeming it no longer necessary. I shut down, unattached one of my IDE hard drives, attached the other hard drive and powered up, however I immediately had issues with it not reaching even the windows selection GUI, so I tried it on its own with just teh SATA master and the IDE disk I wanted filed from on cable select on the master IDE, still no joy, so I thought "ah well, never mind, must be something up with the IDE drive" as the SATA had no issues before.

I therefore disconnected the IDE drive I wished to recover files from and went back to my original setup, but when I got to the GUI and selected my windows install, it gave me a hal.dll error (root system32\hal.dll missing or corrupt: Please re-install a copy of the above file.). I checked, the file was there (labled in capitol HAL.DLL), thought it was just a glitch so restarted and tried again, no luck. So I replaced the file that was there with the one from the servicepackinstall folder, still no luck.

I then went through all methods in Microsoft's 314477 article with no luck.

I've checked and re-checked the BOOT.INI (which I will post below) and there dont seem to be any errors though 3or 4 of the installs (lower) are now redundant but have never interfered with the rest before.

A short story to begin. I have two computers with sub-par performance. A dell and an HP. To make one slightly less crappy comp, I take the RAM and HD out of dell and put it into HP. All is well. I find out i need a second computuer. I return original parts to Dell. I get the following error:

Phoenix ROM BIOS PLUS version 1.0 A08
COPYRIGHT ...(ETC)

Dell System Demension 4600i series
BIOS version A08

SATA Primary drive 0 not found
strike f1 continue, f2 setup

(Naturally pressing f1 repeats the same error. f2 brings me to BIOs. Drive configuration looks like this

(Notice, i have messed with these settings a lot, but here they are)

SATA Primary Drive ... Unknown Device
SATA Secondary Drive ... OFF
Primary Master Drive ... Hard Drive
Secondary Master Drive ... OFF
Secondary master drive ... CD ROM Device
Secondary Slave Drive ... CD ROM Device

Dell worked before removing hardware, and HD still works (tested in HP comp) So my assumption is that i have something connected improperly.

Any ideas?

Answer:Boot Error: SATA Primary drive 0 not found

Did you make any changes to the hd placed from the Dell into the HP?
At bootup, the Dell might be expecting to see something on the SATA drive that has disappeared.
It doesn't say SATA primary undetected, which might happen if a cable is off or the hd has died.

If you have recovery disks from Dell, you may have to restore the SATA to factory condition to get it "known" again.

I'm attempting to use the mini displayport output on my laptop to connect to a device that takes HDMI. I am using the following adapter: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B003OC6LWM/ref=oh_details_o07_s00_i01 When I connect it to the external display, nothing happens, and no new display shows up in the display settings. I have tried this in both Windows 7, and Ubuntu 12.10, but it still doesn't work.  What am I doing wrong?

Answer:T430s - Mini Displayport to HDMI

Hi, xur17

This issue could stem from a few causes. Firstly, have you ensured that all the hardware is working properly? Can you display an image from the computer using only a DisplayPort cable? Is the second monitor working properly, and can it receive signals through the HDMI port? Lastly, is the adapter working properly? This may a bit harder to test, but there are any other devices with those two ports, I would try to hook those up and see if anything happens.

Another recommendation would just be to ensure that the BIOS and other drivers of your machine are up to date. All drivers for your machine can be found here. The dropdown menus can be used to filter by operating system and device type.

Best of luck, and let me know how it goes
Adam

I have a T430s with the NVIDA graphics card and the Mini Dock 3.  My monitor is old, and I was going to buy a new one.  However I won a 24 inch Vizio TV at a work raffle and since it's too small to use for a regular TV I thought it might make a good monitor.  I have the HDMI adapters that came with the dock. Would there be any technical issues that I should be aware of or that would present a problem(s)? Thanks for any/all help!!! GBA

I just had a stop error. The system restarted on its own. I found in the system event viewer the following errors:

11/16/2010 4:53:50 system error (102) 1003 N/A computerName
11/16/2010 4:55:53 DCOM None 10010 SYSTEM computerName

I included the mini-dump for this. Mini111610-01.dmp

The only time I've had a stop error in the past was two weeks ago. I got new speakers, simple ones - no software included, and just plugged them in. A few minutes later the system hit a stop error and restarted. I've included that mini-dump. Mini110210-01.dmp

Between these two instances I see the following errors in the log:

system control manager 7000
system control manager 7009
browser 8032
(2) DCOM 10010

The only strange thing I'm doing - besides brazenly switching speakers - is running Virtual Box.

Can anyone give me an idea what's going on?

Answer:Error 1003, stop error, could someone look at my mini-dump?

Is this a system you built yourself or is it one built by the likes of Dell, HP, etc.?

Hi.

I had voltage fluctuations last night due a snowstorm and the voltage dropped crashing my PC.
It now won't boot and gives the error that a file is corrupted....Windows/system32/config

The PC runs an OEM XP home edition on a SATA drive, the PC also has an IDE drive (D) but the OSes are on the C drive.
Inside the XP installation I have Linux Mint installed.
When I boot I get the 2 options I always used to , XP (default) and Linux Mint.
XP won't boot when selected and gives the error above.
The Linux Mint, also on C and in fact installed as a program within XP, will boot, hence I believe the SATA drive to be undamaged.
I can see the C drive and all the XP files from the Linux installation.

I've tried using the original full CD and the recovery console but when the recovery console opens all it can see is the IDE drive which it labels D (and of course doesn't contain the original XP install.
I can't remember how I got XP on the SATA drive in the first place, I don't appear to have any Hard drive drivers in the case I keep all software CDs in and I'm a bit flummoxed. I can only imagine I just fitted it and loaded the XP install disc but that's at odds with what seems to be happening now.

Spent a large part of today Googling but can't find anything that will fix this....so far.
I don't want to have to wipe and re-install everything unless there's no option, it's a fast way to kill a couple of days over the holidays... Read more

So I turned on my computer and now it won't boot Vista x64 Ultimate because it says there's an error with \Boot\BCD\ and it's telling me to do a repair install. Well I put my Vista DVD in and restarted, clicked 'repair your computer' and now it can't detect my operating system because my HDD is SATA. There's the option of clicking "Load Drivers" but I have no idea where I could find this "Setup Information" in my harddrive that is needed. The funny thing is that I can browse through my SATA C: Drive even though it doesn't detect the operating system. I have my motherboard CD but it's completely useless because it doesn't have any drivers that support Vista as I tried each .INF file in it including 2003_64 and says "The installation has failed" for all of them. The ASUS and VIA sites don't seem to have any specific Vista x64 drivers for it either.
When I installed Vista x64, I think it just allowed me to load the .INF file for VIA SATA that's already included in the DVD without needing the motherboard CD. However, now I have to manually search for this .INF file and I have no idea where it is. Any ideas?

So I turned on my computer and now it won't boot Vista x64 Ultimate because it says there's an error with \Boot\BCD\ and it's telling me to do a repair install. Well I put my Vista DVD in and restarted, clicked repair your computer and now it can't detect my operating system because my HDD is SATA. Posting as a new message since my response in another thread did not elicit any response.  I have a T430s (2352CTO) with Nvidia Optimus.  The BIOS Graphics is set to NVidia Optimus. I also have the nvidia driver installed.  I also have a 4337 series minidock. According to this:  http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/detail.page?LegacyDocID=MIGR-76617 with my configuration, it MUST be possible to have three monitors (laptop display + 2 external (I happen to have a HP LA2405x and a Dell 1907FP).  It must be noted that the T430s is indeed able to detect both external monitors. However, whenever I try to configure the third monitor, it simply reverts back to the current (2 monitor) configuration. I have tried both HDMI+DVI and HDMI+VGA configurations, both behave the same (the HP is on the HDMI port if that makes a diff). Both external monitors are connected to the dock. None to the thinkpad itself.  Can someone point to: 1. The correct optimus drivers for my setup (in case that is the problem)2. The correct ports to use3. The steps if any are non-standard (i.e. using the display settings) in order to get triple display going, please?  Many thanks in advance. pvravi

Answer:T430s, 4337 Mini dock: 3 displays - how?

are you using the HDMI through the DP on the dock? If that is the case then the DVI port on the dock is disabled. Are you using the laptop's own miniDP in addition to the DP on the dock?

Hi, I use T430s + ThinkPad Mini Dock Plus Series 3 with USB 3.0 ? 90W for quite a while. However, I always have a problem with the USB 3.0 port on the dock. I can connect a USB 3.0 HDD to this port and achieve 100MB of transfer speed. However, whenever I try to transfer large files like 4GB ISO file or using Windows Backup on my Windows 8/8.1, it will very soon fail and the USB 3.0 HDD will be disconnected. The large file transfer or backup never succeed.I can complete above tasks using T430s onboard USB 3.0 ports without any problem. It is just the USB 3.0 port on the dock that does not do the job. I contacted Lenovo Taiwan and they simply replace a new one for me.The problem persists with the new dock. Can anyone share some insights on this issue? Million thanks!

I have been running my T430s (running Windows 8.1) with a Mini Dock Plus Series 3, and 2x 1920x1080 LCD's for some time now.  With this configuration I was able to use the screen on the laptop as a third monitor. I purchased 2x Dell U2515H 2560x1440 monitors to replace the older FHD units.  I plugged both of these monitors in to the dock with the DisplayPort cables and fired everything up.  I was able to get one of them to work with the laptop LCD screen but if I tried to enable the second one with the laptop screen open I received the error "The display settings could not be saved".  I figured the T430 couldn't run both of the high resolution displays and the built in LCD (even though it could with the FHD displays) and tried to run just the two U2515H's with the laptop screen closed, but have had no luck.  When I try and enable the two displays together both displays go black, and I need to disconnect one (and sometimes open the laptop) in order to get the machine to come back.  Here are a couple items I have tried. I have tried both full size Display Port cables and Full Display Port to Mini Display Port cablesI have tried to reduce the resolution of one of the LCD's before enabling the second oneI have reduced the refresh rate to 30hz before adding the second LCDI have completed all Windows updates, and ensured my Intel (10.18.10.4276) and nVidia (10.18.13.5445) drivers are up to date.  The BIOS is also up to date.If I connecte... On the website I've ordered the combination I had the impression that I could use two external screens and the internal screen at once.Unfortunately I don't manage to find the right settings to achieve that the internal screen is switched on.I wonder if its just a question of settings or is it simply not possible to extend the screen over three screens. Any help or hint  is greatly appreciated, Andreas

Please help.
I've been getting this message for about a month. However, after rebooting sometimes once, sometimes several times the computer eventually boots up. After reading multiple posts on similar issues, I went and got a new hard drive. I backed up all the files and was going to reinstall evertyhing from scratch onto this new hard drive. I took the old one out and put in the new one. I get the same message when it tries to boot.
At this point I swapped the drives again (the old one is back in).
I am at a loss.
Am I doing something wrong when I'm installing the new drive? Why am I getting the same message with this new drive?

Hi, I have a T430s with Integrated Graphics (Intel HD4000) only. I bought a Mini DisplayPort to DisplayPort cable, however, no display shows up on my monitor (ThinkVision Lt2522p). Does anyone know why or how I can fix this? Very much appreciated,hellothere P.S. I speculate this is because of the integrated graphics hardware based off this thread (http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/T400-T500-and-newer-T-series/T430-External-display-not-detected-when-usi...). However, I do NOT have an Nvidia chip.

My pc died on me and due to a lack of spare cash I bought a cheap pc. It is a AMD Athlon 64X2 dual core 3600+ and it came with only 500mb ram. It also has vista pre-installed. The pc was so slow, I thought this was probably due to the lack of ram, so I bought another 2g ram (total 2.5g ram) but the machine still takes ages to do anything, if I am running a file convertor then I cannot surf etc. I have a legit copy of XP pro and would like to install it on this pc instead of vista. I am assuming from what I have read that it is not possible to simply put the xp disc into my pc once vista has loaded and simply 'upgrade' (or downgrade) to xp.  I have downloaded all the xp drivers for my current pc, however I am far from an expert at this. The problem is my pc uses sata drives and I have read that xp cannot install on a sata drive as it does not contain the drivers for sata. I do have a floppy disc that came with a raid card and the floppy contains sata drivers, but my pc does not have a floppy drive so I can't boot from the floppy to load the drivers first.I was wondering whether it would be possible to copy the drivers from the floppy to a memory card and load them by booting from the built in card reader prior to booting from the xp disc (is it possible to boot from a card reader?). Another option is that the pc has 2 hard drives, is there any way I could install xp on the second drive, load all the xp drivers and then use acronis to clone the drive onto the... Read more

Hi there guys,Im here because of a question i have concerning my HDD's.Here goes,I have a SATA disk that is my main HDD where windows is installed and i also discovered an IDE 320gb i had a while and connected it to the IDE ribbon. Both disks are ok and the IDE one is recognised and given a volume letter under windows. Now i want to install linux on the IDE drive thus format it to EXT3 + have some files that i will be using under windows as well. So i would want it to dual boot Windows and the Linux Distro and both to be visible in one another.I also have an IDE to SATA adapter which i could use to make the IDE show as SATA on my computer but i dont know if that would have any advantages.Would it?What is my best setup with what i have there?I wouldnt mind changing the boot order every time if dual boot is not possible but it would be muuuuch easier with a bootloader.I havent yet formatted the IDE disk ill be waiting for some more solid views on the matter and then start playing around.Thank you in advance,Sander

Answer:Have SATA and IDE want to dual boot windows and linux (have IDE to SATA adapter)

Are you asking three questions? Four? Five? The following are general observations, not perfect rules.Linux does not need or even benefit from having a very larger drive or partition space in ext3 format. The Linux OS does benefit from having a wxt3 format with moderate space for its own use. But Windows does not read ext3 at all.Linux reads NTFS, but does not write it the way Windows prefers.Bother Windows and Linux can share a moderate size FAT32 partition.Converting a IDE to a SATA interface does not give the IDE what you imagine.

Have been happily running windows 10 - with dual monitors, but since a recent update, the system once re-docked will no longer re-detect that it using different monitors. Previously i could use it:1. Un-docked - at 1600 x 9002. then when i put it to sleep3. Then dock it and resumed:     it would     a) switch to 1920 x 1080, and     b) also detect and display on the second monitor - no intervention required. Now, it remains in it's prior "state" (it neither changes state nor outputs to the second monitor) - only outputting to the first external monitor - but at 1600 x 900. Thus since a recent change, it is not "re-detecting" the "change in state" on resume, ONLY when i now do a full restart. The update may have been a Windows update, but on the same day i also installed a Toshiba Dynadock - with dual display port support. I have used the Lenovo system update to update the driver - now it is at 10.18.10.4425 - and as the driver loaded the monitors re-detected, and corrected - but later the problem is persisting. Does anyone know how to force the driver to re-detect on resume not just on restart? Or is this a "consequence of doing things in a certain order" System:Lenovo T430s laptop -HD Graphics 4000  version 10.18.10.4425 (from Lenovo System Update)UPDATED: to 10.18.10.4653 - 7/4/2017with a Lenovo ThnikPad Usb 3.0 Pro Dock (dual HDMI/DVI ports)dual BenQ GL2450 monitors.

You can try removing the USB boot option in bios and see if that helps. In boot order make sure it is not an option or the last on the list after C: drive. Although for the fact that you have en error in event log its making its way to Windows startup when this is happening. If this mini USB reader came with drivers I'd make sure they are up to date.Which model is this USB reader... I am assuming SD Card Reader is what it is, is this original to the Gateway computer build internally or added on later as an external reader which can be removed to see if the computer boots fine without it attached?

I have a low end sharp mini dv video camera and when I try to playback the video I just recorded, the screen is blue. If you hit rewind or ffwd while in play mode you can see the image. I noticed that when I was recording I had a red X on the middle of the screen. This means the head is dirty. I bought and used a cleaning tape (sony) and cleaned and cleaned it. Still happens. Do you think getting serviced at a camera shop for a head adjustment will help?

Answer:Mini DV Camcorder always dirty error!

Try a different tape. I had a Sony camcorder using Sony tapes, dirty, dirty, dirty.
Had it serviced by Sony, they replaced some expensive parts which made no difference. I cleaned the deck, changed the tape and that was that. Although I had included the tape with the camcorder and made a reference to it on the service order, Sony did not want to know. So, no more Sony for me...

Don't know about Sharp service, but I guess it's worth cleaning the deck and then try another tape (another brand?) before having it serviced.

Hello everyone,

I did some reading around on previous topics regarding mini dump errors I keep getting, but I'm unsure of how to analyze the file to tell what is causing it. I suspect it may be my memory, but I'm not an expert.

The OS usually crashes and goes into a blue screen for a few seconds, then the system reboots itself. My computer is fine when it's idle, but the problem can occur when I'm switching back and forth between Internet Explorer windows, or doing something active.

Also, MS Flight Simulator 2004 crashes VERY frequently, but it won't always cause the system reboot. Sometimes, it just crashes and brings me back to the desktop.

I've attached my mini dump file to this thread, as well as a screenshot of an error message I got (I'm pretty sure this is one of the "Your system has recovered from a serious error" messages that I got when the computer rebooted itself after a blue screen.)

Thanks in advance for any help!

Edit: I've attached more minidump files, as requested. Thanks!

Hi there

My mini SD card is write protected somehow now I cant format the card it shows me the error the Disk is write-Protect!!!. I have tried many tools inlcuding disk management format, low level format but I failed to recover my mini SD card and other solution anyone have here please tell me and do remember there is not any kind of switch for write protection I think its the virus who coded the MBR for write protection.

Answer:mini SD write protect error

If you are using it in a larger SD card adapter, try a different one.

But those cards do not last very long. It is possible that it has simply failed. It is also common with those small ones for them not to make complete connections. Try using a different adapter, too.

If you use the HP USB Disk Format Tool on it, even though it doesn't say so, the tool removes the partition on the drive and creates a new one before formatting. Though an MBR lock like you mention is not likely the problem, that tool will replace it.

Or try SDFormatter. You will need to install a driver from Microsoft to format the larger capacity cards like the 128 GB and 256 GB ones - SDXC exFAT.
