Yoga 920 usb-c to hdmi adapter gives washed out blacks on external display

Question: Yoga 920 usb-c to hdmi adapter gives washed out blacks on external display

I am using a usb-c to hdmi adapter to output to a TV but the black levels look washed out. I had no issues with the same TV and a previous laptop that had a dedicated hdmi port. In the intel graphics settings usually there is a "quantization range" setting to change color space between RGB Limited and RGB Full if the intel graphics is driving the hdmi port. However, in this case, there is no hdmi port but instead a usb-c to hdmi adapter, thus the quantization range setting is missing. I've had the same issue before on a previous laptop with usb-c. I've tried installing thel atest drivers, including the non-validated ones from the intel website, but none give me the quantization range setting.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I purchased an external monitor on Friday.  It worked on Friday and Saturday. Sunday when I booted up, the external monitor no longer worked. The history appears to show an automatic update occurred overnight.  I was running Windows 8.1.  I upgraded to 10.  I have uninstalled and reinstalled the intel video driver, I reinstalled the chipset driver.  I have trimmed the micro HDMI cord as suggested in one of the posts.  I have seen enough posts on the various boards to know my issue does not seem to be an isolated case... but I haven't been able to find an explanation of the cause or a reliable solution.  Any help is appreciated.

Just purchased a X1 Yoga with OLED display - Windows 10, intel i7, etc. I have a Dell monitor at work and when I connect it to the HDMI port on my laptop, it recognizes the monitor (control panel/Intel HD graphics). However, the monitor keeps showing a message "No HDMI cable. the display will go into power save mode in 5 minutes". Does anyone know how to fix this? I tried updating all the drivers, the windows button + P, nothing works. I'm desperate!

I just recieved my Yoga 2 Pro but I cannot get it to display out the micro HDMI port.  I want to extend my desktop to a Samsung 24 inch monitor (S24C750P) but it won't work.  The monitor acts like there is something connected to it and windows claims to have detected the monitor and the appropriated resoulutions (EDID), but i see nothing but a blank screen.

I know my cable and monitor work well.  They are both brand new and I have been using them with multiple other computers just fine.

Anyone else experience this?  Any suggestions? Any fixes?

Answer:Yoga 2 Pro won't display on External Screen (thru micro HDMI)

I have done more troubleshooting and found out that if I push and lift the cable plugged into the micro hdmi port on the Yoga 2 Pro then I get a video connection.  It seems that the female hdmi port on the laptop is quite recessed.  I am using a new RocketFish micro hdmi to hdmi cable (RF-AP316).  It seems like the cable male plug is not long enough to fit in the female port (some women have big problems with this).  The bezel of the plug is absolutely flush with the side of the labtop unlike the usb and power plugs that "bottom out" in their female connectors and show a slight space between the bezel of the plug and the side of the laptop.  IT seems that he micro hdmi male plug is not bottoming out in the female port which is preventing a good connection.  This seems like it could be a design flaw with the laptop as I believe most cables will have this problem.  But if I apply vertical pressure to the plug it gives me the video on the monitor.  The new Yoga 2 Pro has a ruberized material around the sides of the laptop to provide good grip and protection when in stand mode etc, and this is what creates the space between the port and the plug.  I will try to go buy another cable but have little faith it will work.  Worth a try though.  Will post my findings.

Yoga 2 Pro won't display on External Screen (thru micro HDMI): Did Lenovo ever respond to this? If there was a Lenovo-specific micro HDMI that Lenovo would sell me that would fix this, I'd happily buy it. Otherwise, I am going to have to toss this Lenovo because the 13" screen is not feasible for the work I do, and I will warn other people that this issue makes the lenovo not a feasible product for work.

I'm able to output using an Amazon brand micro-HDMI to HDMI cable. It is giving me performance and screen jumping issues, but I'm just getting started on troubleshooting that.

Connecting my new Lenovo Thinkpad yoga to an external monitor (Samsung SyncMaster P2770HD) with the mini-HDMI port to the HDMI port in the monitor, results in very bad display quality: text is fuzzy, edges, lines and text seems with white halo, as if this is not the native resolution of the screen (the screen native resolution is 1920x1080 and this is indeed the resolution I use). When connecting my old X220 to the same screen, but with a VGA to VGA cable, I get excellent display. What's going on?

I have 2 ordinary external monitors attached to my new yoga 910, and both the monitors have  fonts have a washed out look, sort of like 1/2 their pixels are missing. This only happens in Windows applications such as Visual studio and MS Word menus, not in web browsers or other applications.  One monitor is via an hdmi cable to the Type C connector, the second is via an external graphics card and a hub to the USB drive. Both monitors exhibit the same issue. Does anyone else have this? It worked OK under my previous laptop. The Yoga screen is awesome, so thats not the issue, just the external montors when using some windows applications.

Good day.

As you mention that you have video problems following a Windows Update push of a new driver, and that the problems are resolved by reinstalling the Lenovo-provided driver, you may wish to consider turning off WU's ability to update hardware drivers. This will necessitate that you manage all hardware drivers yourself, though.

Personally, WU is not allowed to touch hardware drivers on any of my machines.

I have a new XPS 15 9550 that I really like and it has a fantastic display. When I connect it to an external Dell monitor with the WD15 the display image is very washed out. I've updated my BIOS and all drivers to the most current version. It makes the use of the external monitor difficult at best. What's interesting is that when I reboot the laptop connected to the Thunderbolt connector the initial external monitor image is fine and then after a second or two flickers and then changes to a washed out display. I've found that if I keep the laptop open so it's display is up, at times the external monitor's display is OK and not washed out. The WD15 is connected to the Dell wide screen monitor with a VGA connector.

I used this monitor with a Dell Latitude E6420 with no issues at all for years. It still works perfectly with the Latitude. There seems to be an issue with this WD15 or the Thunderbolt connector.
Please investigate this issue and find a solution. It's very frustrating.

Hello. I have just upgraded, or at least i thought i had, to a canon ix4000 from my ip4200. the 4200 was ace, really good prints using ony 3 colours and 2 blacks.the ix4000 uses the same cartridges, less one black, which is mainly used for printing docs, i think.i know the ix4000 uses less rex to rpint, but the difference is appalling. Plus there's no deep blacks like i gat on the ip4200.can anyone tell me why this is if using the same carts.?i have printed using the same paper, and same image, checking setting are the same in both profiles.

Answer:canon ix4000 washed out blacks + poor rez

If your using the old cartridges they may be on the way out, also the ones supplied with a new printer are not often full so may run out sooner than expexted. But from a quick search i see ix4000 as 4800 dpi x 1200 dpi and the ip4200 9600 x 2400dpi

Hello, I would love to ask for some help!
I've recently purchased the newer Dell XPS 13 9360 Non-touch (not the 2 in 1) and am having some trouble with using an external monitor. The screen (on the external monitor) keeps on flickering and has a very unstable connection.
I've searched and found that apparently lowering the power output of the WIFI network adapter can fix this problem.
The problem is that the current XPS's wifi adapter doesn't allow the power output to be changed. The previous fixes were geared towards intel wifi adapters.
The general power settings for the computers doesn't show wifi card power controls.

I have updated all the drivers for the computer including the wireless adapter. Still the options doesn't change.

Has anyone found a way to get a stable external monitor to work with the Killer Wireless Adapter cards?
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Answer:XPS 13 9360 External Monitor Flicker with USB C - HDMI Adapter [Killer Wireless Adapter]

For what it's worth: For me (XPS 13 9360, QHD, i7, 16 GB, Killer WiFi), external screens are perfectly stable, even with wireless being on relatively high throughput load, albeit not high power (energy) load.
I am connecting both HDMI and DisplayPort displays, each with cheap native USB-C adapters (i.e. through Thunderbolt). I also have full success with a Dell DA200, through its built-in HDMI graphics adapter.

Answer:Yoga 900-13ISK: No image on second monitor using USB-C to HDMI adapter

I have connected via the USB type C adapter to a Dell U2410. However the connection appears to be intermittent, as if port requires a timing response peridically to maintain the connection. It appears as a loss of HDMI connection on the monitor approx. 1/minute (for a about 2-3 seconds), then recovers without intervention.

I have 2 TVs currently serving as my screens. I've lately been helping family and friends fix small issues on their computers. I've come across a few PCs that have only a VGA Display Port, while both of my screens only have HDMI ports.
I asked someone at a local parts store, if a wire that is VGA male one side and HDMI male the other, would do the job. He told me in long detail why that would never work, that I needed a signal converter to change the display signal.
Basically he said when adapting a VGA screen to a HDMI port was possible, and the reverse (HDMI screen to VGA port in pc) is not.

My question is, if I bought the cord linked below, would I have to do anything else other than just plugging it in? Or do I indeed need this converter I was told about?

Thanks in advance

Answer:VGA to HDMI Display Adapter

You will need a signal converter of some type. A simple wire cable with different connectors on each end will not work. A VGA output has three analog video signals. An HDMI input expects all digital signals.

I'm having some issues connecting my Lenovo Yoga 2 Pro notebook running Windows 8.1 to a brand-new Acer G227HQL LCD display, via an Insignia Micro-HDMI to HDMI cable.  I simply cannot get any signal from the notebook to the display.  However, after taking a look in Windows' Device Manager, the display appears under the Monitors category as an additional Generic PnP Monitor; and similarily disappears when the cable is unplugged from the notebook. This leads me to believe it may be an issue with the drivers.  I've done a bit of troubleshooting, all of which has been fruitless.  I've performed some troubleshooting prior to posting, which I will detail below. I've tested the connection using multiple displays.  Shortly after connecting the notebook to the display, a generic "No Signal Detected" message appears and the display subsequently enters power-saving mode.  I've tested another LCD display -- an LG Flatron W2353V using the same Micro-HDMI to HDMI cable, and similarily no signal was detected. The Micro-HDMI adapter is firmly connected to the port on the notebook.  After trawling through this support forum, it seems that there was an issue/defect with the Yoga 2 Pro's rubberized body impeding or otherwise completely inhibiting a firm connection.  This was not the case in my scenario, but regardless I filed about 2mm from the end of the Micro-HDMI end of the cable.  This unfort... I have a Yoga 11s that started having hdmi connection issues about a year ago and has recently quit connecting to an external monitor via HDMI completely. We tried upgrading to Windows 10 to see if that would overwrite any software issues - no luck. The HDMI port actually appears loose. I did an extensive search of the forum and found posts that recommended cutting down the rubber around the base of the hdmi cord - tried that and at least I had a little activitiy - in the upper right hand corner of the external monitor up popped a box that says DVI then VGA then HDMI - but then says No Signal. Tried the graphics card update recommended on a post from long time ago and a popup indicated I had a newer version already installed. I have taken it to a laptop repair place - said they couldn't get parts from Lenovo. I found an "authorized" Lenovo repair shop locally - when I called they said they only work on business machines Called Lenovo and they told me to take it to Best Buy - however since I purchased this directly from Lenovo, Best Buy said they can't work on it. I would rather not send it into Lenovo because they tried to charge my hubby hundreds of dollars when his 15 day brand new laptop quit working, claiming damage - luckily extensive pictures taken and dated prior to sending it in thwarted that attempt at extortion. Does anyone have any suggestions? Hi, I hope someone can help. I bought 2 HDMI cables for my PC and my wifes PC but on fitting them both pictures now have a washed-out quality and the resolution looks blurry. Both Graphics cards can support HD (GTS250 and ATI 4890HD) and both monitors are HD compatible. We have the latest drivers for both cards and monitors. Changing the colour & video settings don't make much improvement. Cards utilities and windows confirm the res is still 1920*1080. I've also 'lost' about 20cms in width and length around the border of my screen. When I move back to D-sub I get the full screen again. My wife has moved back to her DVI cable until we can get this sorted.

Browsing on the net for 'washed-out HDMI' shows that others suffer from the same issue but there doesn't seem to be a definitive answer. I wanted HDMI for the digital sound/1-cable solution but the picture quality loss is too hard to bear so far. I'd be gratefull of any help or ideas.

Thanks.

Answer:Washed-out HDMI picture

Sometimes the quality of the HDMI Cable can make the difference. I bought one of these for connection between my PC and my LCD TV and the picture quality is great. It also works wonderfully on my 22.5" LCD monitor. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16812816003 You can get a shorter Cable from the same manufacturer from New Egg as well.

My XPS13 9350 was one of the first with USB-C port (Thunderbolt 3) only and no DisplayPort, supplied in early 2016. It has caused a lot of headaches. As I tried to connect my external Dell monitor using  a USB-C to HDMI adapter from Dell (part no: 47KD7) there was no external display at all. Dell Support advised me to update BIOS. But it led to a complete freeze of my laptop and Dell replaced the motherboard. (It was a real nuisance as I use my laptop for work!!)
With the new motherboard,  the laptop/USB-C adapter/external monitor worked fine for 15 months. Until one day, out of the blue, the external screen started flickering with an image that was all distorted (cut in the middle). The laptop screen was fine. After a few weeks of flickering, there is no signal at all to the external screen. Moreover, as I connect the adapter in USB-C port the resolution on my laptop screen changes.
I know there have been a lot of issues with USB-C connector on XPS 13 and 15.  I have reduced wifi-power to 50%  but it has had no positive effect (several persons have said on this forum that it helped the video output).
I am grateful to learn if anybody with similar problems found a solution. Cheers

Hi Guys,  I'm the IT handiman at a local business. Things have been going okay, so they brought me a Yoga 2 Pro that they had abandoned because it's screen went weird so now it only shows colors.  So, when I turn on the computer, the display immediately starts cycling through colors. When I use an adapter to the micro HDMI, I can see the display on an external display. I can even change the display settings to essentially use the yoga as a computer tower log onto the computer like normal and enable RDP so I can get SOME use out of the machine as a server box, but that feels like a waste of a high performance machine. Video.  IDK what's wrong. If it was a graphics card or something, I would think that I wouldn't be able to use the external display. I'm not sure what's up or what to see about trying to order and replace.  Anyone have any idea what I should look at? I can make this laptop into the little print server we need, since it's not good for much else right now, but I'd rather get it back in service as a laptop and use a lower end machine for a simple print server.  Help me? Please?

Answer:Yoga 2 Display only showing colors. Seems to still work with external display.

I looks like a dead LCD display, or a dead ribbon cable to me, I had a similar issue with my C340, wasn't software related. You can try to contact Lenovo support, they may be able to repair it. http://support.lenovo.com

Now, when I hook the Display port end of this adapter into the 980ti and then plug the HDMI into the adapter for my TV I get video and support for ENHANCED HDMI, however, I receive no audio output whatsoever. I'll run DOOM 2016 I get video @4k but nothing for audio. Can't hear a thing whether its a movie, streaming audio through SoundCloud...nothing. I'm told that there should be support for audio with these adapters.

Is this not the case? Am I missing a setting?

I've done some research but am having difficulty finding a solution.

I am using HDMI 2.0a cables that support HDCP 2.2.

My ThinkPad laptop computer does not have an HDMI port, so in order to connect my computer to my HDTV I use an adapter plug which accepts an HDMI cable male plug (from my TV) and then plugs into my a/v display port. I've gone thru a few of these adapters because for some reason they tend to develop connection problems, like loss of the audio portion, or whatever. The current plug is shorter than my previous ones and less likely to get bent, but all of a sudden I've lost the audio transfer again and when I went to unplug and replug the adapter to make sure the connection was secure I found it was very hot. I don't recall it ever being that hot before....some heat, yes, but this was very hot. Not a good sigh....eh?

When this same audio loss has occurred in the past, unplugging and replugging the adapter has worked, turning the TV off and back on again has solved the problem on some occasions, other times it took restarting the computer. And then on some occasions the loss of TV audio was due to my receiver input setting getting accidently altered (I run my TV audio thru my receiver and into a Dolby surround sound speaker system). None of these remedies have worked this time however.

In this case I'm more concerned about the overheating issue than my loss of audio transfer. Can anyone with good technical knowledge comment on this high heat matter....should I trash this plug immediately?....can damage be done here with an overheating plug, or is some heat to... Read more

I am very happy with my ThinkPad Yoga S1 and do like very much the digitizer pen capability. It works well (given some calibration issues) when the Yoga works without an external display. However, as soon as an external display is connected, the pen outputs always on the external display (and not the internal).

I have the yoga connected through OneLink Pro, and an external monitor connected to the display port. I am using both the internal screen as well as the external screen in the extended mode (i.e. not duplication). When I use the pen on the yoga screen, the actions appear on the external display (and not on the yoga screen). This is very confusing, as the pen actions don?t appear where I apply them.

I?ve attempted to set the yoga screen as the main screen, but did not have success. Also using DVI instead of display port did not help. I also tried it with three displays (internal, DVI, DP) all in the extended mode (it is nice that these setup as possible by the way), but the pen still it appears on the display port monitor.

In order to use the pen meaningfully, I do have to disconnect all external monitors and work only with the yoga screen.

Anybody has seen this? Is this an issue of the pen driver (all updated to the latest state) or the operating system (Windows 8.1, 64bit)?

Thanks for any help in advance!

So the thinkpad yoga looks great.. When are they going to upgrade the yoga 2 pro to a thinkpad yoga 2.  12.5 screen is to small for my day to day (even with 21" external hooked up.  And I want 500G SSD, Thinkpads are a lot less business friendly then they used to be.. what happened? (long battery would be nice too).Does anyone know where one can find "new release info"?

Answer:Thinkpad Yoga: Pen and External Display (pen on wrong display)

X series have always had a small 12 inch convertible laptop. X41t to X230t have all being around 12 inch. So ThinkPad Yoga has continued the tradition of offering 12 inch screen size. You can easily do the hdd upgrade yourself, i have put a 1 tb ssd in my ThinkPad Yoga, and it has been fantastic. I guess that is the benefit of the ThinkPad Yoga with its 2.5 inch hdd slot, compared to other tablets that use PCI-e or M.2. SSD standards.

Dear forum,  yesterday I bought my new ThinkPad t470. While everything else is working fine, the notebook seems not to be able to detect my external monitor (ThinkVision t2424p), when connecting it via a VGA to HDMI adapter. This setup flawlessly worked with my last notebook. Regardless whether I try to connect the monitor when Windows is already running or when I boot into Windows with the monitor already connected, the monitor doesn't show up in the screen resolutions settings nor does there appear an additional device in the device manager.  Do you know what the problem might be? The apater works fine when used with a different Notebook. Thank you very much, EBM

Hello, I am attempting to use the mini display port outpt on the Thinkpad Yoga14 to connect to an HDMI monitor using a miniDP to HDMI adapter. I've tried two different adapters. The monitor is never recognized. However, the mini-display port will work with a miniDP to DVI or miniDP to VGA adapter cable (I verfied this at a store where there were multiple cables and monitors to use).

miniDP to HDMI: does not work
miniDP to DVI: works
miniDP to VGA: works

Has anyone else seen this problem?

I upgraded to Windows 10 last week and everything was smooth.  Today when rebooting my system, the unit no longer can see my external display.  I have tried multiple other displays and none seem to work.  I have the latest video drivers for Win10 from the support site installed but it still doesn't work.  Any thoughts?

Answer:Yoga 2 Pro + Windows 10 = External Monitor not working via micro HDMI

I experienced the same - and also inconsistently that the system is going sluggish/lagging heavily. To fix problem with HDMI downgrade to drivers for Win8.1 - it works but hopefully Lenovo will fix this issue with Win10 drivers!? Overall upgrading to Win10 has been a bad experience (regarding the lagging of the system which usually occurs after 20-30 min after logging on). I've tried removing all third-party startup programs (including Lenovos) - but to no help. The frustration is increasing - any tips will be appreciated :-)

Hello, I have just purchased an HDMI female to micro-HDMI male connector and tried it out with my Yoga! Everything works flawessly I managed to play two 4k videos from youtube simultaniously on both screens and I had no problems with performance which surprised me. But, after all there is a little problem. My external monitor supports 1920x1080 resolution max and when I move some of my windows from the laptop to the external monitor some of them look really really really big, some of them actually get resized correctly but many dont. For example ini the screenshots you can see how big an icon looks on the external monitor, I cant even see my whole Task manager, the right-click menu on the desktop takes up 1/9 of the screen and more. Is there a way to fix this or I will be the retard at work who bought a laptop for 1700$ and nothing works at 100%? http://prikachi.com/images/63/8235063I.jpghttp://prikachi.com/images/85/8235085Y.jpghttp://prikachi.com/images/87/8235087a.jpghttp://prikachi.com/images/92/8235092d.jpghttp://prikachi.com/images/99/8235099U.jpg

Hello,

Frustratingly, unless I use the Microsoft basic display adapter, I can't change my brightness. However, I can't use HDMI with this driver.

Has anyone else experienced this problem?

Answer:Using Microsoft Basic Display Adapter, doesn't support HDMI

That means that Win10 has not installed the correct drivers for your video chip, so it has installed the generic drivers, instead.

You need to post here what video chip you are using -- AMD, Nvidia, etc.

But when i connect lenovo carbon x1 to tv with this adapter - it's work.   I install newest drivers on intel HD Graphics and nVidia Graphics.

Answer:t430 no video on the adapter mini display port to hdmi

Hi Yuriy_volkovsky,

Welcome to Lenovo Community!

As per the query we understood that you are facing an issue with No Video output from Mini display port on your ThinkPad T430.

Please go to BIOS and under Config menu go to Display option go to Graphics Device and check if Graphic Optimus is enabled, then boot the system and check if OS (Operating System) detection for Optimus is enabled in graphic properties.

Hope this helps!

Best regards,
Hemanth Kumar

Answer:Can't Project My Yoga to TV w/ HDMI or MS Wireless Display after Windows 10 Upgrade

When I saw your message, I realized that I have not yet tried to project to my Netgear PTV3000 wireless display adapter, connected to my Samsung 55" UN55B8500 HDTV, after upgrading to Windows 10 Pro more than a week ago. I've had my Yoga 2 Pro for about 17 months and it initially worked well projecting to the PTV3000. However, after a month or so, it stopped working completely under Windows 8.1 and I could never get it to work again. After seeing your message, I decided to try it with Windows 10. To my total surprise, it is working perfectly once again. I did a "clean" upgrade to Windows 10 and have installed all of the latest Lenovo drivers and the latest Intel graphics driver (version 10.18.15.4256) which was installed automatically during the upgrade. It's great to have it working again. I wish you luck in getting your "projection" working again. So far I'm very pleased with the upgrade to Windows 10 Pro even though I had a hell-of-a-time doing the upgrade. I was forced to do a complete factory reset and add all of the Windows 8.1 updates (which took well over a full day) in order to get the upgrade to proceed.

Connected an IOGear compact dock to the laptop's USB C. Connected monitor #1 to the dock's HDMI port.Connected an HDMI cable to monitor #2 and used an HDMI to mini display port adapter to connect to the docks mini diplay port.I used the "Extend Display" setting on the laptop.I can only get display on the laptop monitor and one of the external monitors.  I can't get the display to work on both external monitors.  Second external monitor is not detected.  Help please. I am told that a plugable usb type c docking station would work, it has two "Disply ++ Ports".  Suggestion is to use an HDMI to DP++ cable to connect to the dual external monitors. Haven't tried it yet, does anyone know whether that'll work?

Answer:Need help connecting Yoga 910 13IKB with 1 USB C & 1 USB 3.0 port to dual external HDMI monitors

Hi! Please help!

This was working fine before I had to format my computer. I'm about six hours deep in this — it's killing me. I'll provide you with any info I can, but I'm far from knowledgeable about this kind of thing.

The problem:
My second display is recognized by my computer, but it receives no signal, showing a blank screen with no sound.

My setup:
Windows 7 64bit. I have a monitor as a main display and a TV connected as an extended display. The monitor is connected via DVI. The TV is connected via HDMI. The TV is a PDP-R04. My graphics card is an AMD Radeon R9 270X using the latest drivers (14.501.1003.0). The cable works — tested on other devices with the same TV. The TV works. The source settings on the TV are correct.

Things I've tried:
- rolling back to previous display drivers
- uninstalling display drivers in safe mode and re-updating
- resetting CMOS to defaults
- booting computer with only the TV plugged in
- changing the TV's resolution settings
- crying

Hi,  I am trying to simply connect my T430u to an HP 23xi display (HDMI port to HDMI port), but the external monitor does not recognize the input.  Based on a previous discussion thread, it seems this might be related to video card configurations.  I am not too familiar working with a dedicated graphics card, but my expecations were that it should be plug and play, as I am able to do with my G580. Is there some sort of hardware restriction on how this should function?  I tried accessing the NVIDIA control panel, but the only options related to 3D graphics.  I'm not sure of any other way this should be configured. Any help is appreciated.  Basic Info:Integrated Graphics Intel HD 4000 (Driver Version 8.15.10.2778 - up to date)NVIDIA GeForce GT 620M (Driver Version 8.17.12.9673 - up to date)

Answer:T430u - External display not detected via HDMI

The HDMI on my T430u which also has the Nvidia GPU works whether it is in Nvidia Optimus or Intel GPU mode. Are you using windows 8?When Nvidia GPU is activated the external screen is controlled by the Nvidia display control box. Also have you tried the HP external monitor's HDMI port with other laptops like your G580?

Hi everyone, I have B560 for almost two years, but I have one annoying problem:From time to time, after certain period without usage, I can't get picture on my external display (Philips 221S). I use HDMI to DVI cable.I tried to switch 3 different cables, to make sure it's not related to the cable itself, but problem persists. When I attach notebook to a TV (HDMI to HDMI) I have a picture on the TV screen, so I guess video card works fine.Downgrade solution is then connecting notebook to the Philips display via VGA cable, but I don't like the output picture. I took the display to a service and they confirmed it worked perfectly, after testing all connectors. I tried to search on various forums, but without success, so I will appreciate any suggestion. Operating system: W7SP1 64-bitDisplay driver: GeForce 310M 331.82 Product info: http://support.lenovo.com/en_MY/product-and-parts/detail.page?DocID=PD022762

I?m sorry to hear that your B560 Laptop is not connecting to External display, I suggest you to un-install the display driver installed in the computer from ?Device Manager? and let me know the findings if issue persists and if any error is generated.

Hope to hear back soon

Hi,

I have Dell UltraSharp 2407WFP display with HDMI input as well as DVI (with HDMI to DVI converter) - I use HDMI as primary connection. My Qosmio has NVidia 7600 Go card with latest drivers provided by Toshiba for Vista 32bit (version 7.15.10.9813).

My display was running just fine month ago (same thing with my HDMI TV) I didn't have any issues - but now I have constant problem of flickering (goes black then shows my desktop then goes black again) laptop monitor and no picture on external display at all and I get "balloon" message in task bar that my display driver has stopped working and it recovers when I pull out my HDMI cable.

any ideas?

thanks,
Bran.

Answer:Qosmio G30 - External display issue (HDMI)

Hi Brani

It looks like the error message is coming from the display driver.
Why you don?t try to remove the old installed display driver and try to reinstall the graphic driver from the Toshiba European driver page?
Maybe you will notice some improvements.

By the way; maybe it could be useful to know that the Qosmio G30 supports the HDMI V1.1 standard (up to 1080i resolution).

bye

When I use an external monitor on my Thinkpad Yoga the machine freezes when going into "display off" mode in Windows 8.1. The lights on the keyboard still lighting and the screen is of course off, but when I press any keys and moves the mouse the machine is doesn't respond at all. Also the fan increases in speed and noise. The only way to get the machine to work again is to do a reset by holding the power button for some seconds. Anyone have a solution to this problem or have experienced the same problem? Machine: 20CD-0038MNDrivers: All latest drivers from Lenovo support installedOS: Preinstalled Windows 8.1 64 bit

I just purchased an adapter plug that allows me to connect my Lenovo/IBM thinkpad (T420) to my HDTV by plugging the HDMI cord into my TV and the other end to this adapter plug which converts the HDMI cable into a male plug which fits into my display port (there is no HDMI port on this model computer). It worked, but now I can't remove the adapter plug...it's stuck in the laptop display port. I do not know if the problem is caused by the male adapter plug or the female jack in the computer, but they're locked together now.

I have previously read review comments (on these HDMI/display port adapter plugs) mentioning this jamming happening on more than a couple occasions, but I don't recall any resolutions being mentioned except to break off (and destroy) the plug and possibly damage the display port as well. I called Lenovo tech support but they said I'd have to mail the computer to them to get it fixed. I'd prefer avoiding that if possible even though my warranty is still in effect and it would be of no cost to me.....just time lost without a computer.

I'd greatly appreciate hearing from anyone who may be aware of how to resolve this problem (and also how to avoid it happening again) without doing damage to either the plug or especially the computer display port.

Thanks for your consideration in any case....

Hello Community, I am looking for your assistance regarding a topic with the external display I am currently using. I am running a Windows 10 on my laptop and after an update of the nVidia drivers - I have an issue with the signal going through the HDMI cable. While the External display is plugged in - it is using the Intel Integrated. I have came across a similar topic in here:https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/Lenovo-P-Y-and-Z-series/Lenovo-Z50-70-HDMI-not-working-when-connecting-... And I have done almost everything except the "RESTART" option. I have checked the HDMI cable and it is High speed - and yes, I am sure - the issue first appeared when I updated the drivers. Now I have reverted to older version of the drivers but still experience the issue.

Hi, I have a Y50 (non-touch) and I am unable to find nor create the proper custom resolution through the Intel HD Graphics Control Panel (4600) for my external monitor (Monoprice IPS Zero G). On my previous and much older laptop, I was able to create a custom resolution through the nVidia control panel to display my external monitor at its recommended resolution of 2560x1440. However, the HDMI port seems to be limited to the Intel Control Panel. When I try to create the proper resolution, the following error appears: "custom resolution exceeds the maximum bandwidth capacity". Is there a workaround so that I can use my external monitor with its proper settings? Edit: Added "Lenovo Y50" to the title Edit2: I decided to try 2048x1152 and it works at 60hz without error. This is, however, still not my screen's native resolution and still looks fuzzy/causes eyestrain.

Answer:Lenovo Y50 - Custom Resolution for External Display via HDMI

BUMP. Can someone elaborate on the issue? I bought dvi-d dual link from : http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00180F402/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1which is my second cable and I still cannot run anything higher than 1280x720 on HP ZR2740w... Even though I installed hd graphics from the latest version, I tried to use some nVidia tools but nothing is working. I bought that laptop so I can operate on external displays and nothing seems to work... The hdmi revision is 1.4 in the laptop and I run out of ideas what can be done to make it work -_- Can someone from lenovo talk about this?

Hello, I just bought an X1 Carbon Gen 4 and need to hook up 2 external monitors which have VGA, HDMI or DVI ports available. The idea is to have a 3 monitor setup (all three monitors with a resolution of 1920x1080) including the Built-in monitor and the 2 external ones. I have bought the OneLink+ adapter that has the RJ45 and VGA ports (4X90J31060) and am trying to set the whole rig up so that one monitor connects to the VGA port on the adapter and the other monitor is connected through the HDMI port on the laptop. The problem is that I can only seem to get 2 monitors going at a time, either Built-in & HDMI or Built-in & VGA. Before I go and buy more hardware (i.e. dock or MiniDP to HDMI/DVI adaptor), I was wondering if what I am attempting is even possible, and if it is, what I am doing wrong. Thanks to anyone who can answer.

I have a new Inspiron 7567 gaming laptop; it has two graphics cards, the integrated Intel HD 630 and the 'semi-discrete' Nvidia Geforce GTX 1050 ti.
Yesterday, I tried plugging it into my HDTV using an HDMI to HDMI cable. I have done this many times with my previous laptop, a Dell Inspiron n7110, and have had 0 problems. With the 7567, however, the TV just flickers for a moment and says "No signal". The computer reacts in a few different ways when the TV is plugged in:
In the Windows 10 "Display Settings", options appear for multiple displays such as "Extend Display", "Duplicate Display", etc., and with Windows + P I can choose these, however, only one screen is shown (which changes from 1 to 1/2 when HDMI is plugged in) and when I click on "Detect" it says that no other display is detected. Additionally, an extra Monitor (Generic PNP Monitor) appears in Device Manager when the display is plugged in.
In the Intel Graphics Settings control panel, there is no change when the HDMI display is plugged in. There are no multiple-display options, and "Detect" does not detect any other displays.
Finally, in the Nvidia control panel, when there is no external display plugged in, the only section in the left-hand tree menu is "3D Settings". One of the items under it is "Set PhysX Configuration", which shows "Laptop Display" connected to "Intel HD Graphics 630" with a line, inside ... Read more

Or is the HDMI broken? Thank you for any help. /ThorJ

I was moving our Dell Studio 17 laptop and the screen went blank. I thought it did a power save or something. But I could not get it redisplay anything..no flickers, nothing.

I rebooted, nothing.

I opened up the back and reseated the ram and verified the hard drives were secure. I vacuumed out any dust. No difference.

So I tried using the HDMI with our TV and it displays just fine. I try to toggle the screen (function F8 on my laptop) and it makes no difference. HDMI is always shown.

In the past when we use the HDMI to display netflix movies on our TV, I hookup the HDMI and the laptop automatically switches to the HDMI display and turns off the laptop display. When I unplug the HDMI, it wouldnt turn the laptop screen back on. I would have to reboot with the HDMI disconnected for the display to come back.

Now rebooting doesnt not bring the screen back.

Anything else to try? are there settings somewhere forcing the laptop to not send info to its own screen? BIOS?

This laptop has an ATI card and uses the latest drivers. It does have the Catalyst control center where it detects the displays. It seems the 'unknown' laptop screen and TV (when HDMI is connected, the only way I can see the screen at this time)..but it calls them duplicates and calls both of them #1 display.

Thanks for the help

Earlier this morning I had my computer connected to the TV via HDMI. I restarted the computer (made som windows updates) and now the computer cannot detect the TV any longer. To be sure I tried different cables and my PS4 and everything worked, so the problem is with the computer. I thought that the problem was an issue with the windows update so I updated from windows 8,1 to 10 but I still have the problem.

Answer:Latitude E6440 external display blinks when connect via hdmi

Hi SI K,
If you haven't already done so can you update the Intel 4600 and AMD8690M first.
If the issue is still there then:
1. Restart the system and tap F2 to enter to the Bios
2. Navigate to 'Virtualization' and choose Disable (uncheck the box)
3. Also disable VT for Direct Io and Trusted Execution
4. Return to the main menu in the Bios and select Power Management Option and disable Advanced Battery charge configuration
Once you have done that check to see if the issue is resolved.
If it isn't then open the Intel Graphics Control Panel, go into Advanced Resolution and change the frequency for the LCD from 40Hz to 60Hz

Hello, I just purchased this i5759-8836SLV (Windows 10) laptop that produces a very poor display on an external HD monitor (HP 22VC) when connecting via the HDMI port. It has an integrated Intel Graphics 520 and an AMD Radeon R5 M335 (4GB) dedicated graphics card.
The contrast ratio is very poor and the colours are dull when comparing to the laptop screen, with both displays set to 1920 x 1080 resolution.
I have switched HDMI cables and even monitors, with the same results. When I attach the same monitor to a different Dell laptop, the display works just fine. The image is very crisp and the colours are very bright and default factory setiings.
I have downloaded and installed the latest drivers, tried adjusting both monitor and graphics software settings without much success, the display still doesn't look as sharp and bright.
I have tried explaining the issue to Dell tech support, but without much success. The believe it is a monitor issue, as the laptop's built in display is working fine.

This small 2-in-1 works using the HDMI port when connected to my (older, 17 inch) external flat panel monitor, in this case using an HDMI to VGA converter unit. If I connect it to a somewhat old (CRT, not flat panel) Samsung TV using a standard HDMI cable I cannot get it to display to the TV. I have another (work supplied) larger Dell laptop (Inspiron 15 3000) that can display to this TV, using the same HDMI cable that won't work with the Inspiron 11. Both laptops have Windows 10.
So:
The HDMI port on the 11 works, as does the cable.
The TV can work with at least some laptops, since the 15 can display to it, and I must have the TV input selection correct (HDMI2).
Do some laptops simply not work with some TVs? For example, maybe the Inspiron 11 can't be set to a correct resolution that matches what the TV needs, but the Inspiron 15 can? Maybe I need some kind of driver update for the 11, or have not found some setting I need to change?
Thanks.

I have a Dell XPS 13, model 9350 (released Fall 2015), with the matte 1080p display (non-touch).  It has the new USB-C / Thunderbolt 3 port to connect to external monitors.  It requires an adapter to connect the USB-C port to HDMI inputs on external monitors
I have purchased two different USB-C to HDMI adapters and have tried connecting both to my relatively new LG LA6900 1080p HDTV as well as an older 1080p computer monitor, both with HDMI inputs.  Regardless of which adapter or external display I use, the colors come out washed out with very poor contrast when I export to the displays.  Regular greens and blues become neon, the whites are so bright they wash out all detail, browns are a light yellow, etc.  In general, the contrast and colors are so off that the external displays are pretty much unusable.
I have used both of these monitors as external displays for several other laptops with no problems.  I never have to adjust the monitors’ settings or the computers’ settings.  With the Dell, I have tried every imaginable adjustment on the monitors.  I have also used Windows 10’s color calibration tool.  I have also played around with the display driver’s settings. I also tried using several different HDMI cables. NOTHING fixes the bad contrast and washed out colors.
By process of elimination I know, therefore, that the problem lies in the Dell.  I have spent hours on the phone with Dell tech support.&... Read more

Answer:Dell XPS 13 9350 improper contrast / colors via HDMI on external display

Regarding the notebook, am I correct in understanding that the color problem only appears on your two external monitors and not on the LCD of the notebook itself? If this is correct then I don’t suggest reinstalling video drivers, if the LCD has a good display the drivers aren’t going to be the problem.
Have you tried other connections than thunderbolt to HDMI? Does the TV and monitor have Display port, standard VGA or DVI connections that you can try different Adapters with?  I certainly understand how you may not have these extra adapters lying around but if possible, this may be a way to see if it’s a problem with the type of adapters you are using, or a problem with any type of adapters.  You mentioned you have tested both displays on other notebooks, where you using thunderbolt to HDMI adapters on these other notebooks?
I mention power options on a lot of my posts but with notebooks you can’t emphasize it enough, I certainly suggest testing with the AC adapter connected to the notebook, and the Windows Power options plan set to High Performance and check to see if that makes a difference.
I don’t know if I suggest a service right now, especially if I am correct in understanding that the image on the LCD is fine but it may eventually be something to try. I will shoot you a DM to get your information if this turns out to be a suitable option.

Hello everyone I'm a new owner of the Yoga 720 15''. I've just bought apple thundebrolt 3 to thunderbolt 2 adapter and tried to connect external display using miniDP -> DP cable but with no luck. The same DP cable and monitor works ok on my MacBook (early 2015 with thunderbolt 2 ports). Computer sees the adapter (it's visible in the "printers and other devices" panel) but nothing is shown on my external display (it behaves like there is no cable connected to it and goes to sleep after few minutes). I've seen on various online stores that the apple adapter should work with my laptop. Is there something that I'm missing or maybe my T3 -> T2 adapter is broken? Thanks! Marcin

Hi, I have a Yoga 2 13' i5 with 8 gb ram, currently running on windows 10. I would like to purchase an ultrawide external monitor for it : https://tweakers.net/pricewatch/437153/lg-29um57-p-zwart/specificaties/ On the internet I read several scary messages about the micro hdmi not supporting the 2580X1080 resolution, or the HD graphics not supporting it. Does someone know whether my laptop will support the Ultrawide resolution? I do only need it for Officework and internet browsing, not for movies or games. Thanks

Hi all, We have a Lenovo Yoga 500-14ISK and a Samsung LED monitor (tried with other monitor too) connected with hdmi cable. After installed the graphic drivers the external display worked properly for 2-3 weeks. But then it became unseen for the notebook. I've reinstalled the driver and it worked again for 2-3 weeks. Last time I've installed the updated driver but the last week the problem appeared again. As usual I've installed the driver and after the 3rd restart it works again, but I don't know how long. Have You any idea what's wrong here? Thank You in advance,Zoltán

Answer:Lenovo Yoga 500 vs external display

Welcome Hienaturmix
1. Try to download and install the latest Intel and NVIDIA GPU driver from official websites.

2. Download and install the latest BIOS for Yoga 500 from Lenovo Support Webpage.

3. If problem still persist, try and get a new HDMI cable to test if the existing HDMI cable is faulty.

Hi guys, I'm new to the forums, but I've had my Yoga 900 for about a year now. Love it! I recently acquired a Dell 4k monitor and I want to use it as an external display for my 900. I have a USB-c to Displayport adapter. However, I'm a bit nieve on the CPU & GPU requirements for 4k. So, will the 900 do the job? Will it work via the USB-c out to Displayport?  Thanks in advance for your thoughts

Answer:Can Yoga 900 drive a 4k external display?

Also, down the road a bit I'm going to be looking to purchase a tower to run this display. I'm a big fan of Lenovo's products, so any advice on which Lenovo tower I should be looking at would be appreciated. I don't need anything too awesome. Just a basic tower that can handle everyday family computing @ 4k/60.

Hey guys, I recently purchased a micro hdmi to hdmi cable for an external display monitor with my Yoga 3 Pro however after connecting the laptop to the external display, I receive a 'No Signal' message on the external display. When the cable is not plugged into the external display, it says 'Check Signal Cable' therefore I know the external display can recognize when it is plugged into the laptop. I have read other forums regarding cutting back the plastic on the micro hdmi cable for further extension of the male end into the micro hdmi port however continue to experience 'No Signal' messages. Also in my display settings the laptop will not detect another monitor and graphics properties states there is only the single laptop display. Any suggestions will help, thanks!

Hello, I would like to get an external monitor to use with my Yoga 2 Pro. Preferably I'd like to drive 2560 x 1440 @ 50 or 60Hz whilst keeping the Yoga 2 Pro's screen at 3200 x 1800 @ 60Hz. Has anyone actually done this to be able to confirm it's possible? Or what is the best people have managed without reducing the internal display output? Thanks for sharing your experience,Andrew

Answer:Yoga 2 Pro Max External Display Capabilities

Yoga 2 Pro uses HDMI 1.4 standards, so as long as your monitor supports HDMI 1.4, then it can support the resolution that you mention.

Hey everyone, it's been a long time since I've had to ask anything on these forums, but I'm glad they're still here when I need them! I've done some looking into the problem, and it seems like there aren't many resources on my problem.

I'm trying to connect my television to my laptop, via an SVideo connection. The problem is, my graphics card does not, and CAN NOT, have its factory/updated drivers installed. The graphics card is currently being run under "Standard VGA graphics adapter" drivers.

(The reason I can't put drivers on the card is because it's fried. I'm suffering from a burnt-out, defective NVidia GeForce 8600M GS, like many other people, and I'm mired down in court documents that I'll be using against HP in small claims court.)

Are there another set of drivers I could try that would allow my laptop to use an external display?
Is there a way to set up an external monitor under standard VGA graphics adapter drivers?

On a Thinkpad S430 with HD4000 integrated graphics, an external display connected via a HDMI cable is not detected at all when using Windows. The system is fully updated as of the time of posting this message, both via the Lenovo Update tool as well as Windows update. The Intel driver version is 8.15.10.2696. It appears that this is the latest version, since it does not offer an update when I try to auto-update it via Device Manager. NB: I am running Ubuntu 12.04 with kernel 3.4.0 on the same machine, and the external display works perfectly fine with this software configuration. Hence I think that it's very likely that this is a Windows-specific driver issue. Would Lenovo happen to have a driver update in the works? Alternatively, I will be thankful for any suggestions about possible resolution of this problem.
