Preferred Solution: T450 touchpad too slippery, can I glue another one like in T420?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I've non working touchpad on Lenovo T430s. There's something wrong with the touchapd's electric plate which I've to replace. I peeled it of (I don't meat  the  sticker on the top touchpad's cover, but the part from the bottom on which the connecting tape is in.I've got another plate which works properely, but it must be glued again to the palmrest. I know that it must me connected precisely without any spaces between. Must it be used any special glue to do that? Please help me with that

Answer:Lenovo T430s touchpad plate glue

It is almost impossible to attach a plate from another machine.  If you get one from one of the Chinese suppliers on eBay, it will probably come with adhesive on it, and paper to peel off.

Shouldn't be sticking up like that.  Trackpads are generally slightly recessed.

I have a ThinkPad T450. It ls less than a year old. A couple weeks ago the mouse started freezing when using the touchpad. When it happens I can plug in a usb mouse and regain control of the cursor. If I restart the touchpad works again for a while and then freezes after about 10 minutes.
I have tried running all the hardware updates via the Lenovo solution center and windows 10 says it is up to date. This machine came preinstalled with windows 10 it was not an upgrade from xp. I have also manually uninstalled the touchpad driver and reinstalled it. No luck. I have to believe it is a software problem because it works again after restart.
Any help would be appreciated. I am getting really tired of restarting to regain control of the mouse.

Hey, I'm having an issue with activating scrolling on my Lenovo laptop. I am fairly certain it is a T450 model. I have gone to Control Panel > Mouse > Settings (under Trackpad) and enabled scrolling as well as horizontal and vertical for both two and one finger, but it still will not scroll! Any solutions?

I am having a problem with the touchpad where it will detect unintentional dragging. I am experiencing this problem in both Windows 10 x64 and Ubuntu x64. I have tried various drivers but the problem still exists.  Wondering if anyone might have a suggestion on how to fix this.

Hi, I recently bought T440 and sold my old (and amazing!) X201. I cannot deal with one thing however. Over my time with X201 I used touchpad only for scrolling. Whole touchpad area dedicated to circular scrolling (puting my thumb anywere on touchpad and making circle movement) and trackpoint for mouse movement with middle button as standard mouse middle button. That was very slick solution, cause I could leave my hands on the keyboard with no need to change their positon every time I want to scroll or move the mouse. Now, with T440, I cannot find options to set it up the same in Windows 10. I swapped the touchpad from T450, the one with physical buttons, which (I know) isn't helping in this situation. Circular scrolling by default works only when you start scrolling with one finger from the edge of the touchpad. I want to make whole touchpad behaved like an edge. On Linux I could simply edit xinput, change x and y area where gestures are recognized and set it up the way I want. Same on X201 using Windows with Synaptics drivers. Why on Earth Synaptics ditched those advanced settings for newer models? Is there any workaround for this? I found out that T450 UltraNav in T440 works best under 18.0.7.57 Synaptics drivers from 05.08.2014. In the newer ones trackpoint physical buttons are not working for some reason. Anyway, no matter the version, options in control panel are the same.

Issue 1 - Developers: the default sensitivity setting for the palm check threshold is too high.  When I first got this machine I seriously thought there was something wrong with the touchpad.  I had to press way harder than seemed normal on the touchpad to get the mouse to move around on my screen.  After exploring the touchpad settings I reduced the threshold by two clicks and now all is well. Issue 2 - No horizontal scrolling.  I cannot get the touchpad to two finger horizontal scroll nor can I get it to one finger scroll (even after enabling one finger edge zone scrolling).  It won't horzontal scroll on any document types or websites.  Very frustrating.  Is it possible there is something wrong with the touchpad afterall given issue #1 above? Note: the trackpoint button does scroll vertically when using the middle mouse pad button but will not however scroll horizontally. Thanks

Is there no solution? I have tried installing drivers from both Lenovo and Synaptics, updating the drivers through the driver manager, and disabling and re-enabling the touchpad through the BIOS.

Hi,

I bought my T420 around august 2011 and just after a year of light use (I use my wireless mouse most of time) the touchpad started peeling in the middle and its getting worse til now its so ugly to look at.
Just wondering if anyone else is having this problem? I'm already out of warranty so replacing it is out of question.
Is it safe to use something to completely remove this bumpy surface? i tried use my finger nails but it dont seem to come off that easily at all.

Just FYI the white stuff is NOT stains its plastic film on top of the bumpy surface peeling off!

Here are some pictures of the touchpad:

Hiya all, I am new to this forum, so please be kind!  I have a brand new T420 issued by my company. I am liking all of it's features as I get to know it.One issue I have got is that as I am typing, I touch the Touchpad often and hence the words get typed at different points! A simple baffling question - how do I disable my touchpad. If I hit Fn + F8, I only have the following options: Buttons, Pointers, Pointer Options, Wheel & Hardware in the 5 tabs. I am unable to diable the touchpad from any of the options.  I went to Control Panel and used the Mouse option, it gives me exactly the same screen as Fn+F8. So no use again Kindly please help.... thanks,

Hi,   I am replacing the clickers on my T420. I've gotten the palmrest off and now I would like to "unplug" the current clicker from the circuit board and plug in a new one.  I'm a complete technical lay person, so I'm not familir how I dismantle this without breaking it.  Can somebody describe or point a video for me?  I can seem to find lots of video on how to take off the palmrest but doesn't show actually taking off the clickers or touchpad.   I've attached a photo of the "plug" I am describing..  I'm sure this is a standard connection, I'm just not a pro.

Hi: The cable connects to a flat connector with a plastic hold-down bracket. You need to flip up the darker piece that holds the cable in place with your fingernail or a small flat screwdriver. Be careful. Unfortunately, it is much easier to do the 2nd time you try. The cable pulls out. The new one needs to slide in and the clamp needs to come down,

Hi! T420 touchpad dies and trackpoint keeps on working. Sometimes after some time the trackpoint may also die. After boot, touchpad & trackpad recovers and is working maybe for an hour, or a day. Then it reoccurs. This happens randomly on some T420's, while other T420's doesnt encounter it never-ever. Any tips how to troubleshoot this one? Ran Lenovo PC Doctor and everything is fine, also cant find anything suspicious in Windows logs. Thanks in advance!

I just bought a refurbished ThinkPad T420. A friend of mine said it had a good spec so I was looking forward to having a play around. Right from the minute I switched it on there was a problem. The touchpad and mouse are not working. The only way to use the mouse is via the track point (is that the right term?) and I hate it! It's way too fiddly. So I tried fn and F8... it doesn't work. I've tried rebooting and enabling the touchpad in the BIOS it doesn't work. I've deleted drivers. Still nothing. I've installed new drivers. Many tutorials say you can fix it using device manager, mouse etc. But the tab the recommend you choose is not there. I installed new drivers from synaptics and it says there is no synsptics device found. I am honestly going insane! Something that should be so simple and it's so awkward! Forgive me because I'm half asleep but I should mention when I first tried to fix it the tab in mouse properties that everyone says I should use (ultra something) well it was there. But when I tried to click any of the options on that tab I was kicked out and got an error messsge. Now that tab no longer appears. It's running on windows 10. I'm ready for launching it out the window. Help!

Answer:ThinkPad T420 touchpad issue

Congrats on your T420. They are nice machines. I'm sorry to hear about your issue. Hopefully, a few little things will solve it.

Make sure it is enabled in BIOS.
Make sure all drivers are updated from both Windows Update & Lenovo System Update. (reboot as necessary)
Confirm that Device Manager does not have any devices marked as not working correctly.
Go Mouse Settings
Click "Additional mouse options"
Make sure "Enable TouchPad" is clicked (mine is grayed out because I have it turned off in my BIOS)

Let me know if you have any issues. I suggest connecting an external USB mouse, if you have one, to the computer to decrease your aggravation level while you work on the issue. If none of that works, I would contact the people that you purchased the refurbished ThankPad through. The TouchPad part may not be functioning.

Hey everyone I purchased a T420 a few months back and two times (just before cleaning the screen with a dry fiber cloth) I've noticed what looks marks made by the keyboard (vertical lines, spaced approximately as the keys) and what looks like marks made by the touchpad (small dots, the touchpad is dotted) on the screen. The marks disappear when cleaning the screen with the fiber cloth which is good so far, but I fear it is the dreaded phenomenon of the keyboard scratching into the screen because the screen touches the keys when the lid is closed. Back in the days and with cheap laptops you see permanent damage to the screen from this. Have any of you guys experienced this with your T410, T420 ect? Should I place a fiber cloth between the keyboard and screen when I close the laptop? It seems silly that Lenovo got this one thing wrong with this laptop.. As soon as I see the marks again I will make sure to photograph them and show the pictues here. Best regardsWuhtzu

Answer:T420 - Keyboard and touchpad leaves marks on screen?

I have not had any such issues with my T420 (or T400). I would think if it is leaving marks on the screen that there is an issue with the way the machine was put together.

Hi guys, hope you can assist me with this. I have a really strange behavour, I must say... I received a T410 and worked two days on it. From one office I moved to another location and worked for some hours. After lunch I started the machine again, but neither touchpad nor keyboard is working. If I connect a pointer via USB on the machine the pointer is working, keyboard unfortunately not. Ok. Admins installed it new. I worked one day, next morning same issue. Well, back to admins, reinstallation completed. Again for two days I could work without any problem. So as it happened the third time admins decided to provide me a new hardware: I received a T420. I have been working with this one week without any error. During christmas I took the notebook home. I had been working with it for one hour. I used a USB-to-bluetooth wireless pointer. No problems so far.I got back in the office this morning an guess what?!?!?! Same problem as for the T410: Windows is starting up but touchpad and kayboard is not working at all! What did I? In my opinion nothing special:1) Started up machine2) Added pointer3) Connected via WLAN to network at home (settings for Home-Network applying)4) Packed the notebook into my suitcase and took the flight.5) Back at the office connected via LAN to network, connected via VGA to monitor, added usb-keyboard, added pointer. What can this be? I mean I'm able to destroy to different machines! Only common is Windows 7 and T4xx series..... Read more

Hello - I had the same problem a few weeks after upgrading from windows 7 pro 64 bits to windows 10 pro 64 bits on my t420s. I tired to replace the hardware without sucess with a new palmrest assembly. Finally I found a solution that fixed it by going to the mouse and trackpad settings in windows 10 and there changing the delay setting for the trackpad to respond - once I had changed that setting everything (trackpad buttons and trackpad) worked again.

So I have had a very... VERY... irritating problem with my Thinkpad. For the first 6 or so months I had the laptop it worked fine. Then, the left click on the touchpad was functioning like the right click (bringing up a menu).  I immediately disabled the touchpad and then used the trackpad right and left clicks which worked perfectly. After another 4 or 5 months, those buttons stopped working altogether. I could still use the touchpad to move the arrow, but I couldn't click on anything. I bought an external USB mouse and that worked fine for another 2 months. Then for a few weeks, it would work on and off. I'd have to wiggle it around in the USB ports to get the laptop to recognize it. (it had nothing to do with the ports... there were 3 of them and they all worked fine). Then it stopped working completely, AND, my laptop refuses to acknowledge ANY USB I plug in.  I have run out of options now. I can't even install anything, download any files from lenovo website. I can't do anything. Does anyone know if it is still salvageable? Has anyone had the same problem? The lenovo digitizer for tablets.... would that work for this thinkpad? (sorry... not as tech savvy as the rest of you) Thanks a bunch,Amanda

Hi guys, I am trying to maintain my doughter's school aptop but encountered something exceding my limited expertise. Since about 10 days the touchpad, buttons and the red thingie stopped working. I have read all the forum issues, uninstalled the drivers and re-installed new ones (first through the lenovo sulotion centre, then the synaptics generic version). About 6 times now. That didn't work. It says "component not present, not working correctly or divers not fully installed, error 24" (translation from Dutch, probably used some incorrect terms).Running windows 10 on this t420. All worked fine untill this happened. I saw that some new mouse drivers have been installed around the day of malfunction but can't find how or where to remove those (still getting used to this windows 10).Any suggestions?

Answer:Lenovo Thinkpad T420 trackpad and touchpad right/left click stopped working

So far, there's just 2 of us with trackpoint / touchpad problems as a result of installing Windows 10.  My post:  https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/ThinkPad-T400-T500-and-newer-T/T420-Win-10-Pro-Ultra-Nav-19-00-12-61-Tr... I've combed through this forum and have no one else reporting these same issues; most are reporting that left and right click buttons are working, but the middle button did not work.  In my case, it was the opposite; the middle button scrolled (albeit very choppy), and the left / right buttons were dead.for my Trackpoint.  It's not a hardware issue, as all buttons function as normal in Win 7, but upon installation of Win 10, the buttons do not work.  I went so far as to do a clean install of Win 10 to ensure there were no conflicts between Win 10 and any leftover Win 7 system files, only to end up with the same old left and right button problems. So until the Ultra Nav drivers to enable full functionality of trackpoint / touchpad device, the only solution is to use a physical mouse or revert back to your prior operating system.

Question: Slippery Mouse

May sound daft this, but I find that using my mouse (MS Intelli Mouse)is like holding a bit of quicksilver. Only by keeping the mouse a good distance away from the keyboard (MS 3000 Wireless Desktop keyboard) does it seem to behave.
I have tried altering the various settings for the mouse, but am left feeling that the wireless signal to the keyboard somehow interferes with the mouse wireless signal.
Do I have an over-vivid imagination, or can this really happen? And if it IS the case, how can one get over the problem, - short of keeping the mouse and keyboard several feet apart?

Some suggestions here but have you tried a different usb port?

Greetings,Vundo (or maybe another one too) got through my Mcafee and diabled it to the point I can't even reach mcafee.com and the auto-update tells me I have to reinstall it which of course isn't possible bc I can't get to the site. I have installed SuperAntiSpyware, Malwarebytes' AntiMalware, Avira's Antivir and all have found traces of one thing or another of Vundo and variants. The most noticeable effect has been on browser performance - or lack thereof since certain hyperlinks don't work on Yahoo home page, sites cannot be reached and my startup items do not load on startup.I have scanned and scanned, quarantined and deleted over the past few days - done from safe mode and regular mode. Below is the most recent HJT log...can someone help me out? Hey guys,
For about the last 2 months or so I've been getting a strange issue with my mouse cursor where it feels very inaccurate/jittery, almost as if it is on ice or something. I spend a lot of time on games, namely Dota 2 and CS:GO and it drastically effects my performance to the point where I cannot really play at all.
It's really starting to bother me as I cannot determine what the issue would be and have tried multiple things to troubleshoot it. It occurs both on the desktop and in-game, but in-game is where I feel it most as accuracy is a lot more valuable there (lol).
So far I have
-Used multiple mice on my computer and they all experience the same issue, I have also used the mice on a different computer and do NOT experience the issue. Also tried different mouse pads with no results.

-Messed around with DPI and mouse acceleration, and every other mouse setting there is in windows 10

-Reinstalled GPU and mouse drivers, and kept them updated

-Disabled Game DVR and Xbox application in windows 10
Then about a month ago I bought new parts for my PC (I was due to upgrade it) everything EXCEPT a new GPU and monitor. After this I still experience the issue.

Hi,

I want to share a summary of what I think I learned in finally resolving my problem with tweaking my Win10 registry to keep NumLock on.

Short version: "Fast Startup", a feature in Windows 10 (which is turned on by default during installation of Win10), runs when the Power button is pressed to start the computer. Fast Startup ignores any modifications you made in the Windows Registry file. Pressing Power->Restart after changing the Registry does not run the Fast Startup program but does load your modified Registry file. You will think your Registry changes were successful, but they will disappear when you press the Start button on the case to boot the computer from a powered off state.

If you want to utilized a customized Registry, you will have to live without Fast Startup. Depending on your system, Fast Startup may or may not have a noticeable effect on boot time. To disable Fast Startup, go to: Settings -> System ->Power & sleep ->Additional power settings -> Choose what the Power Buttons Do -> (if necessary) Change settings that are currently unavailable ->Uncheck the box next to Enable Fast Startup.

Long version:
After upgrading to Windows 10, the default state of NumLock on my keyboard was set to Off. This was a pain because I use the numbers-only password to unlock the computer and find it easy to use the separate numbers area of the keyboard. I could turn on NumLock by pressing the NumLock key at every start-... Read more

Answer:Slippery Registry Changes (NumLock) in Win10: Fast Startup is Culprit

Hi,

Thanks.
It explains a lot of minor issues I've been having with Win10

Btw, even if the bios has an option to activate numlock, Win 10 will just ignore it.

I bought a T420 (type 4236-5H7) online and was surprised to find that the system tried to deploy USAF SDC (Standard Desktop Configuration) on first boot. I cancelled the process and the harddrive was subsequently erased, such that the Windows boot manager gives an error. No big deal so far, as I intended to reinstall Windows myself anyways. Much more annoyingly, however, is that the BIOS is protected by a supervisor password right out of the box (and no mention whatsoever of what this password might be). In other words, I cannot change the boot list necessary to reinstall the operating system. Has anyone any suggestions on how I can obtain this supervisor password? And secondly, why the **** does Lenovo ship USAF SDC on a normal consumer product? Any help is appreciated, as I'd like to turn this shiny new brick into something useful.

Answer:T420 BIOS locked with supervisor password on *new* T420

firstly where online did you get this machine? Did you get it through the official Lenovo channel, or did you get it through some other channel? If you didn't get it from Lenovo, then you should contact the seller whom sold the machine to you in the first place. Lenovo can't provide you with methods for password override, if such thing even exists.

I read your post, looked at my T61, and freaked. On one side of my T61, the frame looks like it is just starting to pop. I can feel some adhesive or something. Also, the right-hand vertical side of the top cover has a few ripples on mine. The Hardware Maintenance Manual (available under support) should give you instructions on how to pop it back in. It should be fixable.

Question: Glue Error

Hi, ive got a Packard Bell iMedia 1508 and i want to put it back to Windows XP from Vista (it was originally XP) with the recovery disk but whenever i put the recovery disk in to start the recovery, it comes up with a Glue Error.

If it helps the

Serial is : 048852720191
Parts Number : PB34213001

Answer:Glue Error

I found this on another forum, I don't take credit for it, but I hope it helps you

the cause of the "glue parts error" problem - the
active partition had changed.

A. go to
http://support.microsoft.com/defaul...&NoWebContent=1
and find out how to use FDISK to get to this DOS menu:

1. Create DOS partition or Logical DOS Drive
2. Set active partition
3. Delete partition or Logical DOS Drive
4. Display partition information
5. Change current fixed disk drive
(this option is only available if you
have two physical hard disks in the computer)

B. Select option 2. You will get a menu that looks something like:

Partition Status Type Volume Label Mbytes System Usage
C: 1 A PRI DOS (your label) 1200 FAT16 50%
2 EXT DOS (your label) 1200 NTFS 50%

C. Select "2" to make it the active partition.

Your restore should now run without the error.

Question: Glue error 5

Hi all I'm new to this site and came across it while searching for help. My problem is that my HDD died on me a few weeks ago. I purchased a new one and installed it in my pc, re-installed win xp home and everything was ok till the next time I re-booted pc. I had an error message with blue screen telling me I had a software or hardware problem, tried a few times to re-boot thinking it was a glitch but same sreen re-appeared. I realized that my problem must be to do with a new monitor I installed or 5 port usb as they are not the original pieces of hardware that came with the pc which was a PB i-media 5090. Thinking that I could not install original win xp (red recovery floppy and 3 master disks) I made a basic error and installed a copy of xp someone gave me, now I get validation screen when pc boots up. So now when I try to install original xp, when I'm asked for master cd 1 I get glue error 5. I have been onto PB forum with no success as I have tried all their suggestions and now I'm going round in circles. Any help would be much appreciated.
If you have read this many thanks for have having a look.

Hello and thanks for reading.

It started out as a simple check on the IP configuration for my DSL modem. After reconfiguring, and rebooting, the computer had rearranged all my desktop icons and began taking 20 minutes to shut down.

When I let it shut down and then start again, I get this message: "insufficient resource for macromedia drive"

Then I get an error message about "Qwestcare."

I thought the computer was acting like glue, and not responding, so I checked the task manager: something called BackupNotify was consuming 98% of the CPU memory.
I get rid of that from task manager.

Still takes 20 minutes to shut down. Doesn't recognize a flash drive when connected to a USB drive. Can't move or drag any icons or files. Won't let me uninstall the Qwest care program.
The modem problem is fixed, because I did a "command" on run with a "ping" command and it did show I was getting internet connection, but it never comes up on screen because computer is so bogged down, locked down, even after CPU just has "system running."

virus checker is SOPHOS, but that has somehow disappeared from task bar and when I try to double click on it, same thing happens--nothing moves!

HELP! and thanks,
Nancy B.

I have to glue what I believe is called a heat sink back onto the proceessor from whence it fell. Someone glued it before because they obviously broke the clip holder on it. Any ideas about what kind of glue to use? Someone told me if it works in the end, it's the right way, and I need to get this old dinosaur back up today if I can. Thanks as always.

Answer:Glue and a heat sink

If you must you can use devcon 5 minute epoxy, buy it at any hardware store.
Not the best, insultes rather than conduct heat but it should hold.
Best thing would be to find a new clip and then use thermal compound.

Hey GuysWhat if i were to fill the "gap" between my clickpad and laptop case with epoxy to securely glue it in place, never ever to "click" again. I would then be reduced to basic touchpad functionality with single finger tap= left mousebutton click and double finger tap = right mousebuttin click. I hate the clickpad, it doesnt register and is really a bad piece of engineering. The fact that Lenovo has not addressed it makes me worry that they are going to continue it over to the next generation W-laptop, which would be a catastrophe.  What do you think about my glue fix? Answer:Glue error 5 on pb j2422

Glue is a programming language. The logical conclusion would
be that the Recover CD has elements that are programmed using that
language, and it is fialing for some reason ... perhaps the CD is damaged,
unreadable, or is the wrong disc for your model.

I have a set of CDs that I put labels on. The labels are paper with some sort of glue on them. They were designed for CD and I got them at Rite Aid. I'm wondering if there is a way of removing the labels without hurting the CD's. I scraped a label of one with a knife, but the surface is still sticks, and it took forever. Any ideas? Thanks.

Answer:CD Desolving Glue Remover?

I would say soak the cd in warm, NOT HOT water with a little washing up detergent.

This should soften the glue, and enable you to remove the label easier.

Answer:Glue Part 1 error message

Just guessing but the hard drive may be corrupted or toasted. It also could be bad recovery CD's. PBell utilities are weak at best in my opinon. I would be tempted to get a bootdisk from bootdisk.com and reformat the drive. If there is data you want to recover you need to work on that first. Some of the data may be there.

Sorry about not offering much here. Maybe someone else has seen a Glue error?

Basically, I am looking for one of these desktop and window tweaking utilities that will let me glue several windows to let Windows 7 (64-bit) treat them as one.

That includes: 1) resizing the glued windows together, 2) moving them together, 3) minimizing and maximizing them together, and 4) switching to and from them together (the most important part).

I often open documents side by side to write to one while using the other as reference, and it's too annoying whenever I need to switch away and back to them to switch to them individually instead of in 1 action.

Do you know of any existent software that can do that? Thanks in advance.

PS - I just found some Chrome plugins that allow opening 2 web pages or more in 1 window, separated by frames. That's a great solution when using Google Docs and webpages, but I'd still appreciate it if anyone found a solution for for other types of windows.

I tried to tape it, this did work. However, when I put the disk in now it says that the diskette is no longer formatted? So I took a perfect diskette & pulled it off the glue & then it also gave the same message that the diskette is not formatted?

Is something off line, I need to somehow access my info sitting on that diskette! It seems so far out of my reach to access that stuff sitting there on that black shiny paper!

Answer:broken diskette (glue unattached)

Welcome blue villa,

You are speaking of a 3 1/2 inch floppy disk, correct? And the little round silver thing on the back?

Good day everyone! Earlier, I tried to fix the broken part of my earbuds using a superglue. I applied too much pressure against the superglue tube, that a portion of the content bursted... unfortunately, my laptop was nearby.  I tried to search for some tips on the internet on how to remove superglue, and most of the resources said that Acetone is the best.  Now, my question is, it is safe to apply acetone on my laptop's surface? Will it not discolor my laptop's casing or keys? Hoping to find a friendly and concise answer soon. Thank you! =)

Answer:Super Glue, Laptop... and Acetone.

I would not recommend using acetone on your laptop plastic surfaces since acetone can melt most plastics. Good luck!Message Edited by DAF on 11-04-2008 08:00 AM

Answer:glue parts have you recovered from this error

As in your other thread, You have to remove all Partition Information and create a new partition before you can do anything with it. and as you used MaxBlast then you should use that to remove all trace of the info. Or get a New disc, not another second hand one

Tried to remove the heatsink to replace it with a different heatsinl and to my suprise my Athlon 64 X2 3800 was stuck to the bottom of the stock heatsink!

I didnt dare try to put it back in the socket with the heatsink welded onto it because the locking lever was still down, the cpu was pulled while the locking lever was down.

Now I'm stuck with a cpu welded onto my heatsink and I'm scared I might break it.

Do I just try to pry it off with a small screwdriver?

Answer:HELP!! CPU stuck to heatsink like super glue!

get electronics cleaner at your local electronics shop. Spray in between (like you were using wd40 -but don't use wd40!). Then GENTLY apply pressure with a small screwdriver. You might have to let the cleaner soak in a little.

Hello!

Yesterday I moved my computer to a different room and heard something sliding around inside. We took the cover off to find the motherboard heatsink had come off somehow. It has two arms on either side that are quite stiff and seem to be there to spring it back in place- there are four croquette like metal hoops on the four corners of the mount on the mother board. One of these had come off aswell and is currently residing in the hover bag. (we can get it out again if need be, didn't realise what it was before it was gone!)

The heatsink has two adhesive strips along the sides as well as the remains of glue in the centre in a small square. I went into a shop and the techie bloke in there was totally useless (was going to charge me for his time searching the internet for the glue!!)

Can anyone tell me what the glue is called and where I can get it from? I'm in Ireland/UK so a EU shop would be great. Do I need adhesive strips too?
And how best to reattach said heatsink? Do I need to use the arms too or will it work well enough with just the glue?
Any other tips please would be greatly appreciated, I'm new to this whole DIY PC malarky.

Thank you

Answer:Heatsink fell off! What glue do I use to reattach?

there should be no glue mate... what you need is just a proper security for the heatsink so that it wont fell off. usually the "leg" is quite weak, plastic or carbon based material. u just need to snap in the "leg" and all will fit. however if yours is damaged, might think of getting new one.

i think the middle one is not glue,,, its a cooling gel for your CPU..

MB: ASUS Striker Extreme
Graphics Card: EVGA GTS8800
Memory: Ballistix DDR2 800Mhz
Case: Antec Dual power supply

History: System has been running fine for over a year. Lately it has required multiple resets to boot up. Eventually that ended and I get no post. Did some of my own research narrowed it to what I thought was the MB. Worked with ASUS over the phone they had me RMA the MB. Upon return same problem.

Status Que: MB is outside of the case. 1 RAM stick in slot (1) ~tried others. Have tried graphics card in both slots. Checked PS operation using an Antec tester I bought look clean.

Symptoms: No Boot, No Post and after a short while the system self powers down.

Answer:Solved: Is it ready for the GLUE Factory?

That is most likley a motherboard or CPU issue if your PSU is okay. Since you've gotten a new motherboard then try swapping out the CPU as long as you have tested the PSU.

It looks like in the past someone, (might be me!) has caused the top of the screen to bow outwards ans the glue no longer holds it in place. I did have a new screen fitted before this.
Would a couple of drops of glue fix it and what glue should I use please?

Answer:Can I use glue to hold my Lumia 535 screen in place?

You have to visit your nearest mobile repair centre or MS Authorised Service centre.

This is for an Antec case, where the inner, plastic coil on-off switch has come loose. The plastic pin retaining the flat, spiral coil on a side has broke (poor design, which is surprising for this make). The marginal mini pin snapped == case front is practically trashed. And if case front is no longer available, of course all components must be moved to fit inside another new separate case.

So looking for the best glue I can find to secure it back.

I hessitate to shoot glue, since every time the switch is depressed from the outside, finger pressure will be applied.

Anyway, what would be the best high strength glue for bonding plastic-on-plastic?
Is the glue gun better?

(notice that certain glues write out certain types of plastics under their recommended applications)

Answer:plastic pc case switch broke - looking for best glue

It is difficult to recommend a glue for this purpose for several reasons; but, my experience with vulcanizing plastics goes back over 50 years when I was assembling plastic model cars and I learned the difference between vulcanizing glues and what I would call surface glues.

Plumbers' glue for plastic pipes vulcanizes the plastic, meaning that it melts the plastic on the opposing surfaces and bonds them together with a chemical reaction. If done properly, the glued joint can be stronger than the rest of the object.

Read the label and apply the instructions as well as can be done for such dissimilar surfaces.

My T420's fingerprint reader wasn't responding very well recently so I went to the ThinkVantage settings and disabled the fingerprint reader and changed the options to password only. The problem is this morning I opened my laptop and noticed the power button doesn't work either. Now I can't turn on my computer. Is it normal for theT420s power button to not be lit up? I assumed it wasn't lit because the settings were set to only turn on the computer using the fingerprint reader. Is my computer a brick now???

Answer:T420 Fingerprint - T420 WON'T TURN ON

Try this:Take out the battery, take out the AC.Tap the power button 10 times in rapid succession, then press and hold for 30 seconds. Reattach the AC and try booting it again.

It would appear that there was some type of caulking holding the digitizer down. I've managed to hold it in place with 4 drops of superglue in select places. didn't do a heavy duty job, I just want it to stay in place till I can get my hands on the right stuff. Anyone know what kind of glue it is and where I can get some?

Also, when I replaced my digitizer sometimes the screen is unresponsive. It works about 95% of the time but I would like it to work 100% of the time.

I have the LG quantum C900 if anyone needs to know.

I don't know what they use on mobile phones however the electrician whom I took my *shower proof* battery powered shaver to, for a replacement battery. Said that stuff was just 'nothing more than hot melt glue' see HMA wiki-link here

If you don't have a *Hot Melt Glue Gun* you don't know what your life is missing :haha:_

What's the make and model of the laptop? METAL frame snapped? How? Plastic you might be able to glue. You may need to find a replacement case part and swap everything over.

I have no clue what it could be and I don't know how to troubleshoot it. I don't know if its software or some nasty malware.

Everything takes a long time to run. And, sometimes, they all run together after many seconds of stalling. Then they run smoothly after being started, 90% of the time. Sometimes elevating permissions for a program like process explorer causes the screen to freeze and go grey for 5-20 seconds.

My Web browser also don't work well. Firefox takes seconds and sometimes i have to close and re-open because it freezes, and I have to close and re-open if it shows no connection. When it runs right, it runs smoothly. Sometimes when it doesn't work i see it running in Process Explorer and sometimes I don't.

If I disconnect internet it freezes slightly if I connect to the internet(wired) it freezes up. I check connection using TCP/Viewer and Process Explorer. It shows a few broadcast IP's and IP's for DNS, and other stuff. SVCHOST takes up like 30% of the CPU briefly.

Usually Idle System Processes are ~60-70% CPU even during the big freezes. I don't know what to say about memory usage. My Security Suite takes about 30% sometimes, and I am not sure if this is causing it(Comodo).

Not sure if its related. WMPNetwk.exe runs randomly when I open programs such as Firefox or by itself. I set it to Manual start and am not sure if its supposed to do that. On process explorer things like Firefox are shown under Explorer; I don't recall if it ... Read more

Hi. I have a G510 black color and the thin part that covers the DVD drive broke in one hingethere is a wire for the LED on it, so I don't want it to completely break and maybe destroying the drive. What glue would you recommend for the type of plastic the laptop is made of? Thanks

Answer:Lenovo G510 Black broken DVD drive - what glue do you recommend?

Sorry, I'm not aware of the type of plastic.  I would try a Super Glue first.  In the event it doesn't bond you could then try a epoxy glue.  You might also look at the new Bondic plastic weld system. Here is an example......

I'm having trouble with a completely fresh Vista 64 installation on a box running MSI P6N SLI Platinum, Western Digital Raptor 74GB sata drive for the OS, 4GB Corsair Dominator memory and an Intel Core2 Duo E6600 (@2.4). The performance is absolutely terrible. Switching between apps can take anything from 10 to 60 seconds, and the disk appears to be swapping like crazy. Also when I pull up the task manager, even the taskmngr.exe consumes 50-60% CPU, and the total utilization is constantly 100%. I've installed the newest NVIDIA nForce drivers, all updates from Windows Update, and I'm feeling pretty fresh out of options.

Just to be sure, I ordered a new 500W PSU (my previous one was 400W), and some hard drive cooling, but I seriously doubt that this will improve anything.

Any clues? I would really like to get this thing working, though I'm sure XP64 would perform very well under the same circumstances.

Answer:Vista64 + nForce 650i, Intel e6600, sata2 and 4GB ram = glue performance

Hi, do you have this latest installed: http://www.nvidia.com/object/nforce_650i_sli_winvista64_15.00.html (if they provide any intel drivers for anything, get updated version from intel site)

Have you enabled all dma-related stuff? device manager/disk drives/your hard drive model/properties/policies/ various optimize & enable settings......

Tried disabling nforce firewall? http://www.nvidia.com/object/LO_28249.html

Question: T450 issues

We have ~60 Thinkpad T450's deployed, periodotically some of them do this weird thing when the users try to wake them up, the volume mute, microphone mute and FN key are all lit, but the screen is off. No matter what we do, we cannot power the machine on/off (not sure of it's state, even holding the button for prolonged periods does nothing). The only solution I have found is to unscrew the back cover and pull the secondary battery, which isn't practicle, espically if a user is traveling. When the laptop comes back on, there is no error in event viewer. Not too sure what's going on?

Good day and welcome to the community.

It might be simplest to just pull it out.
If you don't already have it, here's your hardware manual: https://download.lenovo.com/pccbbs/mobiles_pdf/t450_hmm_en_sp40a27225_01.pdf
Manual pages 70-71 & 75-77 should illustrate what's involved.

Hope this helps a bit.

Question: T450 battery #1

Hello, I have a very lightly used T450 laptop and the internal battery #1 is not being recognized by the laptop.  I have read in other forums on other devices that the connection might be loose.  It is under warranty but I have no Lenovo service center near me. How difficult is it to access battery #1 inside the laptop to check on the connections?  Is there a detailed diagram / instructions someone can point me to?  If I do this, will it invalidate my warranty (I have nearly two years left). Thanks.

Answer:T450 battery #1

here's the manual:

https://download.lenovo.com/pccbbs/mobiles_pdf/t450s_hmm_en_sp40g54937_01.pdf

There is no way the battery can become disconnected by itself.  The connection is very secure.  If you remove the bottom cover, the internal battery is obvious and easy to access.  You won't affect the warranty unless you break something taking it apart or removing parts
