Preferred Solution: kms activate of Windows7 Professional on Windows Server 2016 Standard.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I can't activate Windows Server 2008 R2 downloaded from Dreamspark. Can anybody help?
I downloaded Windows Server 2008 R2 Standard from DreamSpark and also got the product key.
I tried to install the software on an empty disk. Right at the beginning of installation I am offered to install different versions of 2008, standard, enterprise, web. I chose Standard (Full Installation) and carried through the setup. Everything works fine until I try to activate the installation with the product key given by Dreamspark. At this point i get the following message:
"The present key you have entered will not work with this edition of Windows Server 2008 R2.
You must either run Windows Server 2008 R2 setup or enter a Windows Server 2008 R2 Standard product key"
I find the message very weired as it seems that it tells me to install what I've already did, or the product key provided by dreamspark is wrong.
I should mention I tried to activate by phone, but they tell me the product ID is not right or sthg like that, and then I get thrown out the automated process.
I emaiedl dreamspark support 3 times ang got no reply. So now I am getting a bit desperate.
Anybody any ideas?
Many thanks
alex

Answer:Dreamspark and failure to activate windows server 2008 R2 Standard

hi !
how many keys did you get ?
and where did you download from, was it from www.dreamspark.com or from MSDNAA ?
i?m also having problems with keys from MSDNAA (now renamed to dreamspark), i get an errormessage saying: "the product key has already been used....."
so it looks like Microsoft has some "technical" problems regarding product keys.....
but there is no need for panic, you can use WS-2008-R2 in trialmode for a long time.
just use the "rearm-trick", then it runs for several months....

Hello
This is my first thread

When i install sql server 2000 standard edition i have a message
" Microsoft SQL Server 2000 Standard Edition Server Component is not supported on this operating system only client components will be available for installation"

Hence I cannot install properly. I installed only the client componets. Thereafter when I went through Enterprise Manager and tried to establish a connection, I failed. It said server does not exist.

What to do now?

I found out that if one has sql server 2000 standard editon the prerequisties are
Microsoft Windows NT Server 4.0 with Service Pack 5 or later, Windows NT Server 4.0 Enterprise Edition with Service Pack 5 or later, Windows 2000 Server, Windows 2000 Advanced Server, or Windows 2000 Datacenter Server.

I have windows xp professional version on which i am installing sql server.

But i have seen many persons who have installed sql server standard edition in windows xp pro.
They downloaded something(probably a service pack) and went into regedit

Kindly let me know what do download and what to do after going inside regedit.

Thanks
cmrhema

Answer:installing sql server 2000 standard edition in windows xp professional

Do these "many persons" actually run the SQL Server engine on their computers or did they just install the client tools to be able to connect to another SQL Server machine?

A recent cumulative update for Exchange 2016 was intended to add support for Windows Server 2016. But, after numerous reported issues, Microsoft has acknowledged a problem exists.

According to the release notes?

If you attempt to run Microsoft Exchange 2016 CU3 on Windows Server 2016, you will experience errors in the IIS host process W3WP.exe. There is no workaround at this time. You should postpone deployment of Exchange 2016 CU3 on Windows Server 2016 until a supported fix is available.

Once again, Microsoft?s testing of its own patches seems to have taken a backseat to accelerated release deadlines.

Hi there!

Well, after reseting the PC to factory settings and reinstalled my drivers, I'm encountering a nasty problem... I?m just unable to install office 2016 in Windows 10, just when it's about to finish, stops, reverts all and says there was an error installing the suite...

I could install this in build 1511, no problems, but here this happens... I tried compatibility modes, using the office cleaning tool, but no avail, I even have all the VC runtimes installed... I'm tryinto install 64 bit version.

Please guys, any advice on this? I really need office for doing my job!

Thanks in advance

Answer:Unable to install Office 2016 Professional Plus 2016 in W10 1607

Try installing 32bit option - you really do not need 64bit unless doing some mega powerful stuff.

Hello,

Ok, so I have software that requires the communication port to work to transfer settings from the PC to an external unit. I have last used this piece of software in Windows Vista, some 6 years ago. Then it worked.

Now I'm on Windows 7 and get a run time error 339 "component MSCOMM32.OCX" or one of its dependencies not correctly registered: a file is missing or invalid.

I've looked through this thread, and on the web, on this subject but most stuff is not current, As far as I can see most posts refer back to 2009-2011. However, it looks like MSCOMM32.OCX was the basis for ActiveX backdoors, viruses, malware. So need to install from Microsoft only, no third party stuff. Couldn't find the MSCOMM32.OCX file with Msft.

I checked if I had it. Nope. I do have some ActiveX *.ocx files installed in the SYSWOW64 folder.

Then I saw, get Visual Basics, because MSCOMM32.OCX is embedded in there, and possibly patched (?). As listed here: ActiveX Control File Names

So went for the Microsoft Visual Basic 6.0 Service Pack 6 Cumulative Update. Didn't work.

Somewhere it said ActiveX *.ocx files can be had via Visual Studio instead. So got the 2015 express version. Nope didn't help.

So is there a way to get this MSCOMM32.OCX working without putting the PC at risk?

I just competed building a new system and installed Windows XP Professional X 64 operating system. I do not like it due to incompatability issues with the 32 bit software I own (especially 32 bit drivers, some will not load at all). I would like to uninstall the X64 operating system and install a standard XP Professional OS. Please advise on the proceedure, safest / cleanest way to uninstall the X64 version now on the machine and then install a standard 32 bit XP. Thank you.

Hi; any help greatly appreciated... Had passed onto me a desktop PC with xp pro on one partition, and xp home on the other..(ex owner now abroad) The latter ( XP home) works fine , but when I choose XP Pro I'm asked if I wish to 'Activate Windows' ...following the 'instructions' I just cannot get the partition to 'activate'.. Does the prog require an admin password etc ???? Thanks

Answer:'Activate' Windows XP Professional on partition

It may be that you have a pirate or previously registered copy of Windows insalled on the 'Pro' partition. You should be given a telephone number to ring but I suspect that this will not work either. Did the previous owner give you the installation DVD?

Hi,

I'm not sure if this is the correct place to ask for a help in hand here, but i'm having trouble tracking down the source of a problem. My dedicated server provider has informed me that 1 of my servers has been sending syn flood attacks to another one of my servers connected to the same router and has unplugged the network cable on it for now as a precaution.

I can still remote desktop to the machine to work on it though.

Here is what they sent me:
This was a flood of traffic between the following two IPs 174.*.*.218,
174.*.*.219 Mainly traffic from 174.*.*.218 to the 174.*.*.219. All
4096 packets, that are the limit for a capture on the router, were strictly
traffic to and from these two IPs, and mainly traffic from 174.*.*.218 to the
.219 IP. This traffic was causing the CPU on the router to spike, thus causing
packetloss on the device.

It would appear that the 174.*.*.218 server was
performing a syn attack to the server 174.*.*.219. As this traffic was
originating from a host on this router to another host on this router. Cisco
Guard would not have mitigated this issue.

---

Now I have done some tests with netstat -o to try and find any rouge applications but everything seems normal to me, I have done a scan with Avast server edition and also MalwareBytes to see if anything could be picked up but both came back clean.

Has anyone got any advice?

Paul

I want to upgrade a client's peer-to-peer network to an actual 2003 domain. I am comparing Server 2003 Standard Edition with Small Business Server. I thought that Small Business Server was Standard Edition with a few extras like Exchange Server, which I don't need. However, SBS is quite a bit less expensive than Standard, which surprises me. I haven't yet found a side-by-side comparison on Microsoft's website and was hoping some of you could help.

Why is SBS cheaper? What's missing that is included in Standard Edition? Which version should I recommend to my client? It's a small network that's unlikely to ever grow beyond 5 clients, if that's any help.

One important point is that we need full Terminal Services functionality. Are there any limitations on Terminal Services with SBS? I plan to set this client up with some remote access via Terminal Services Advanced Client.

Thank you for your help.

I have a print server running 2003 standard sp2, I have been looking for a way to allow helpdesk staff install and manage printers without logging into the server and without adding them to the admin group.

So I added them to the power users group and the print operators group, that worked fine they were able to UNC ( \\servername ) to the server and install printers, drivers, as well as uninstall drivers? printers ect????.
Now the problem??? this works great from an XP box, but when we try it from a windows 7 machine we get access denied. More specifically it acts like it is going to install the printer then when it comes to the driver installation part it fails ?Printer driver was not installed. Access is denied.?

No changes have been made to the permissions I can log into an XP machine with my profile and it works fine log out go to a Windows 7 machine use the same credentials and I get the above message access is denied. I am an admin of both machines on the windows 7 machine I have UAC turned off completely. Running XP Pro SP3 & Windows 7 pro both are 32 bit machines.

I should also add that I have made the necessary group policy changes to allow printer operators to Load/Unload device drivers and under the local policies/security options I ensured that the Prevent users from installing printer drivers was Disabled.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks

I burned the ISO and proceeded to pop the CD into the server and start installing the OS. The normal blue screen with Windows Setup in the upper left appears and it starts loading drivers/files. When it says "starting windows" in the lower left corner, the screen goes black for a second then I get a blue screen with a message.

You will need to restore 7 first then upgrade.
For the free 10, your previous version key will not work. It gets converted to a cloud authentication upon upgrade.

If your copy of Windows 7 is genuine, has a valid product key and (if it's an OEM copy) has not been loaded on any other computer, then it will install normally without a loader. If it's not, then you need to buy a properly licensed copy.

You don't need to usually. Your internet provider usually provides it automatically part of dhcp. If you have a modem or router then may have to put that IP address in as a dns and one or two of your isp's numbers."The era of big government is over," said Clinton 1996

I had installed Adobe Acrobat 7 (AA7) on my computer, and it worked fine. Then I had to replace my hard drive and reinstall my programs. When I reinstalled AA7, it asked me to activate it every time I used it, then it refused my attempts to activate. I contacted Adobe in a chat. An Adobe rep gave me the following instructions, and those instructions also failed:

"Here are the steps to activate the product on your machine:
Please remove/uninstall older version installed on your machine  (My thought -- why?)
Go to http://www.adobe.com/downloads/cs2_downloads/index.html
Download new version of product from that link.
Download 22001904.exe.
Install the downloaded version on your machine with new serial number from next to download link.
Use the serial number which ends with 2468 (1016-1415-6379-6184-1333-2468).
That serial number will not ask you to activate the product on your machine."

Then he wrote,
"Due to some technical glitch, Adobe has disabled the activation server for the product." Don't know whether he was referring to my original Acrobat 7 or the product that he suggested I download.

Please help. The current installation expires soon, even though I have the software CD with serial number, etc.

Answer:re-activate Adobe Acrobat Standard 7

Why in the world would you post your personal, unique serial number on a public forum? All anyone else has to do now is install Adobe Acrobat 7 and use your serial number. And since it can only be used on one single computer on the entire planet, you will not be able to use it because you allowed someone else to steal it.

And once they activate their Adobe software with your serial number, the software contacts Adobe's servers and your serial number is then marked as "in use". Then when you, or anyone else, tries to use that same serial number again, you simply won't be able to.

Hopefully a Moderator will be along soon to delete this entire thread.

Hello,
I am the Network Support Technician for a county entity.  We have a few (5) computers still running Windows 7 because of proprietary software that will only run in 7.  All but one updates without a problem.  This one is an HP Compaq Pro 6305
MT with an HP 1850 MB, 3.8 ghz AMD A10-5800B APU with Radeon HD Graphics, 4GB memory, Windows 7 Professional (X64) w/ Service Pack 1, Samsung SSD 850 Pro 512 GB.  We installed Office 2016 Standard on in last year, and it runs fine.  It updated up
until March 2017.  In march Microsoft put out updates for Office, as well as other updates.
It refused to update the Office files citing error code 80070663.  We ran Windows Update Repair, found corrupted database and registry entries, it says it fixed them, still no Update, same error code.  Reset Windows Update components manually
through CMD line entries, same error.  Repaired Office through Programs and Features, same error.  Uninstalled and re-installed Office, same error.  tried to install updates through download and install, "Error in detection".  Ran
DISM, CheckSUR.log says no errors found.  Ran Clean boot, We were able to install Security Updates for Windows 7, but same error for Office updates.
I have saved the CBS, CheckSUR, CheckSUR.Persist, DISM, ReportingEvents, and setupact files if anyone wants to take a crack at it.

Hello,

I am currently performing some research and I am curious if anyone has info on the improvements in Windows Server 2008 when it comes to encryption.

I'd liek to find out if it EFS has been improved for a shared key method; so that I can start recommending this as a feature.

Managing EFS in a shared-key environment (in 2003) proved to be a near impossible task, and I am hoping that Microsoft improved their support.

Also, is there policy based encryption? As in, can you set a policy so that all files in shared folder X are encrypted against key X?

Any input is appreciated.
Thanks,

Matt

Hi Guys I look at this forum often in the background and i have had a question of my own.

I'm going to set up a server for a friend, mainly file storeage. I was hoping to put WS2008R2 Std, but WS2008 std will do if i can't get R2 in time.

I have seen other post about compatiblity between XP desktops and the server and my question is a little more in depth.

I want to set up a domain on the server, dhcp, and file security levels for some of the folders. I think thats about it, nothing fancy, AD maybe. Sort of winging it as I go.

Is this going to be compatible?

Thanks

I am at a loss right now... I put together a pretty decent server around a HP Proliant ML310E Gen8 V2 and now have come to the OS Part. I am about to pull the trigger on WS 2008 R2 Standard with 5 CALs and want to know if this is a No-No. I will have at least 10 people on the server at any given time and wanted to know if I am only using it to serve files will this be sufficient or will i need more licenses?

I did a little research and according to MS Website I would need a license for each concurrent connection to the server. But I don't really understand that since I have used enterprise on another server I built which I thought had 5 CALs also and it never barked at me when I had almost 30 people connected at one time...

Am I looking at this wrong and just confused about how it works? Please a little insight would be greatly appreciated!!!

I installed a copy of windows server 2008 R2 enterprise and was able to connect using 11 connections for file serving operations and had no problem...but the OS was not activated so that may have something to do with it...

Answer:Windows Server 2008 R2 Standard 5CALs

In most cases (with a few exceptions such as RDS), CAL licenses are not enforced by any technical means. A server with only 5 CALs will happily serve as many clients as it's hardware will handle without complaining at all.

Doing so is a licensing violation of course, so in your case you will need to make sure you have at least 10 CALs. Remember that CALs can be purchased separately from your server license, so you can buy the server license with 5 CALs and then buy 5 additional CALs (or more) to keep things within the licensing restrictions.

I purchased a HP Mediasmart Server about 11 years ago and run it on my old XP Laptop. I eventually bought a new laptop which had Windows 7. Mediasmart was not supported on this platform so sold off the ex475 box and kept the hard drives which I put the away for about the last 5 years. I recently had a virus on my laptop and lost all my files, so I decided to pruchase an old XP desktop and purchased an EX490 server and try to run the mediasmart on that. After numerous attempts to get it to load I decided to take out the hard drives and try to load them direct to the computer via the cables etc. But when the computer loaded it required me to activate the windows 2003. It showed me an Installation ID on screen and a phone number to activate it. I called and when I loaded the installation id I was told that it was invalid and I required a product key. As I do not have the original box or product this has become impossible. Can anyone help me as to where I am able to purchase a new product key as it is supposed to be obtained from HP and after numerous phone calls I amnone the wiser as to where I can get one from.

Hi,
i cannot activate Win10 in my network under a Squid Proxy server.
Proxy does not require authentication, internet navigation is ok but windows activation is KO.
If i connect pc to a direct internet line (without proxy) activation is OK.

Do you know a workaround for activation with proxy ?
Thank you.

Answer:Activate Windows 10 under proxy server

Please right click on start icon, select Command Prompt (admin). In the command prompt window run:

slmgr /dlv

Post the result here and we can help figure out your activation problem. Windows 10 should not require any internet connection at all to remain activated once it is properly activated (unless it is a volume license activating from a corporate server).

I am currently having an issue were Windows 7 computers can not connect to Server 2016 (domain). Right away I get a "The logon attempt failed".
I know that user information is correct, because I can connect using any Windows 10 computer. I have tried this from multiple Windows 7 computers, they all give the same error. I don't have any problems at all with Windows 10.

So, this seems to be isolated to Windows 7.
Has anyone seen this or know how to get around this issue?

I appreciate your help!

Hello

I am trying to install SQL server 2005 standard edition on windows 7 professional.

I select to install everything, but the installation of database services fail, and I can't find the log file I am requested to inspect.

Please note that it is the installation that fails, so I have not had chance to apply Service pack 3 after the installation.

Has anybody else succeeded in installing SQL server 2005 on a windows 7 professional?

I am trying this on a "clean" windows 7 installation - Visual studio has not been installed yet.

I have a question about Windows Server 2008 Standard licensing...

A client of mine wants 2 new servers... one to be the domain controller for the active directory and the other for a small file server and application server.

I will be installing two licenses of Win Srvr 2008 Std (1 on each machine, obviously).

Now, if they have 13 users, do I need to purchase 15 CALs (since a CAL will allow the user to connect to either server) or do I need to buy 30 CALs (15 CALs for each server)?

Also, should I be using DEVICE CALs or USER CALs?

They have 13 machines, but more than 13 users... the employees at the front desk seem to change more often than I change my underwear

Keeping that in mind, they also are logging in currently with the SAME, EXACT username and password to the domain on each machine. So, picture this ==> 13 users each logging in to each machine, all use the same username and password (for example, each user types in "username" and "password"). Is that allowed? I mean, all they're doing is just accessing an application on the server, but still... is this legitimate?

I'd like to do it the correct way for them and I would hate (and I know they would hate) for each computer or user to log in with "user1" and "password1" and the next user with "user2" and "password2" and so on... they'd never keep track of that.

What are your suggestions for a possible solution?

Than... Read more

Answer:Question about Windows Server 2008 Standard licensing

the servers are only accessed from desktops inside the office, correct?
no additional laptops or the like are brought in?

If answer to both is "correct" then Device CALs would be cheaper.

Since only desktops are used, at most there would only be 13 concurrent connections (based on current number of desktops).

No sense in using User CALs if there are >13 people, since you can't get >13 people logged on to 13 workstations
and each user would need a CAL. So if 30 people, would require 30 User CALs. But if only 13 workstations... waste of money.

as for how many you need... that part is not clear to me. I was under the assumption it would be # CALs for each server, but being an AD environment may change the way it works.
and I could just be ASSuming wrong

OK, so I'm going to start implementing a Windows Server 2003 system in a couple of weeks, replacing the Win Server 2000 we use now.

We have 17 machines here, will want to use the server as both a file server and an Internet Connection Sharing server + firewall.
It would also be a domain server.

Which one of the versions should I get and why?
Thanks.

Answer:Windows 2003 Standard Server vs Windows 2003 Small Business Server.

Go with SBS and get the premium version. If you only have one server, this is the route to take. SBS includes Exchange and the premium version has ISA 2004 to add a firewall. Neither of these comes withe Standard.

First time for me. An optional update for Win7, clicked the, More information link in Win Update and returned, 'This page doesn't exist on the webpage'.

only one other post online asking the same, for KB3156417. so it says the update exists..

some time later, an official link, appeared on the MS site
https://support.microsoft.com/en-gb/kb/3156417

it mentions 'Roll up Updates' and it seems Microsoft has decided to provide future updates for win7 differently in the future.

the links also mention how clean installs for win7 will become easier in future:
http://www.neowin.net/news/microsoft...server-2008-r2
also:

just installed KB3156417 and after a requested reboot the computer, it looks ok.

Hi,

this is a beta so why do I need a beta key ? How do I activate Office 2016 ?
I own office 2010, I downloaded the office 2016 preview and it put office 2013 on, then I found how to put 2016 on ... now I only have a few days left of the trail before most of the features are disabled.... since this is a beta why would they be looking for a key ?

Answer:Office 2016 preview is asking me to activate/product key ?

Hi there

The old links had the product already activated -- the links were removed by Ms within a few hours. Currently you need to activate via an Office 365 subscription -- I don't have nor want one of those or even Office 2013. You could try an Office 2013 key though to see if it works.

There might be a *proper* public trial later.

I just bought a Dell XPS 8300 that came with Windows7 Home Premium. There is a chance I will need to upgrade to Professional. Is there any issues upgrading from a Dell loaded version of Windows? I have the reinstall disc that came with the PC.

Side note... if I were to upgrade to Professional, and then some point down the line have to reformat my drive, would I be able to use my Dell disc with Home Premium and then use my upgrade to Professional again? Or would I have to buy it again?

Answer:Upgrade to Windows7 Professional from OEM?

If you are a lay user like I am then Windows 7 Home Premium is just about as good as Windows 7 Pro in my opinion. I just wasted money by going for Pro instead of Home Premium.

That said, there should generally be no issue upgrading from a Dell loaded version of Windows.

Also you can always reformat and revert back to Home Premium by using the Dell disc. But better still, please just make an image of the C drive with the Home Premium and then you can revert back to it in a jiffy. There are excellent tutorials on this Forum that teach you how to image if you are not already versed in creating and restoring them.

Historically I've used the following syntax with NetMon to determine which switch/switchport each of my server interfaces are connected to:

nmcap.exe /network "<interfacename>" /DisableLocalOnly /capture SNAP.EtherType == 0x2000 /StopWhen /TimeAfter 2 min /file "<filename>.cap"

With MMA, I can just do a filter for LLDP, and get the same information, at least on my Windows 10 laptop that is.  When I run a capture either locally on a Windows 2016 server, or remotely against
a Windows 2016 server there are no LLDP packets captured.

Hello,

I see that there is a Windows 7 and a Windows 10 forum but my Windows Update problem is on a Windows 2012 Server Standard machine. Would it be OK to post in here, or is there a different sister forum I should post in?

Thank you

Answer:Window 2012 Server Standard Windows Updates Broken

Slipstick.com is the best resource, same as Microsoft's Technet site.

Very few on here play with Server 2012 or Server 2008.

Hi All,
here is our situation we have Windows Server 2008 Standard OS (64 bit) and logged in as an administrator and we have installed a windows service service with another account which belongs to Administrator group.
So OS is running under and administrator group and the windows service running on a different user which is in administrator group.
Shortly what this windows service does is using Crystal Reports template and sening to a network printer. During this process we get the error message "Invalid Printer Spcecified". When we remove the template
just try to send it to the printer, this time we get error message "invalid handle". When we reboot/restart the server, it work both ways however we want to be successfully without rebooting/restarting the server.
Note: the printer driver is OK.
Shortly is there any way to accomplish without rebooting the server. We used some tools like PSEXEC but did not help.
Remember if we reboot everything ok .
Thanks and regards,

Should Windows XP Professional be used a server such as file server or application server? My understanding is that it is not a server os. Since it is not a server os, what is the main difference between Windows XP Home and Professional?

Answer:Windows XP Professional as a server

In regards to that, one main difference between XP Home and XP Pro is that Home allows for 5 simultaneous computer connections. XP Pro allows 10.

As far as either one functioning as a server, it all depends on the requirements. If all you need is basic file storage, and the connection limit is not an issue, I have had absolutely no problems where XP or for that matter Windows2000 Pro has been use in that role.

I am trying to add Windows 10 clients to Windows Server essentials 2016. It seem that in order for the server to see the clients I must the clients join the server server Domain. (Currently they are in a workgroup).

It looks like one has to change the Windows10 clients to access the WSE-2016 DNS. So in windows 10 I go to networks, bring up the adaptor setting. Bring up "Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IvP4) and instead of "Obtain the DNS address automatically" change it to always get the DNS address on the WSE-2016 (found with ipconfig).
Then within Windows I use ?System?, ?about?, and Join the server DOMAIN. It now works. The client can now see the Server domain.
I can then see the Server files and the server can see the Windows 10 shared files.
There are still problems however.
When I reboot the Windows 10 client. I have a brand new user screen with only some of my original desktop icons showing. Do I have to essentially rebuild up everything on my desktop again!
Question: Is there not a way to have my original desktop appear when I am joined to the Domain.
Second, since there will be times when the server is off I used the router static DNS IP address as the alternative address in the above dialog box of the Windows10 clients. Seems to work since the client can access the internet even with the WSE 2016 off.
Here is my second question. I have a few home laptops as well. If I force the DNS to the server what happens when I travel. ... Read more

Answer:Adding Windows 10 Clients to Windows Server Essentials 2016

When Windows client computers are not joined to a domain they use the local SAM database to authenticate to the client computer. When the computer is domain joined you are using an AD user account to log into the computer. These accounts are going to have different SIDs as well as local profiles on the system. If you log into the computer with an account that has local admin access, you can simply move or copy the data from the local user account folder into the domain account user folder. The user folders inherit permissions from the root C:\Users\<username> so they should automatically gain access to the newly copied data.

I'm still using System Mechanic v4 from a few years back. I only use it for it's "startup manager" where you can enable and disable startup items. I also use it for the "wizard" where you can run a trace cleanup [internet and more], reg mechanic, defragmentor, all in one shot. I really love this program. I also use a very advanced defragmentor that windows doesn't have and you can only use it in this program.

I have not used the any of the newer versions of System Mechanic because I downloaded a trail version of System Mechanic v6 long ago and ran it on my system. I can remember that it had some sort of wizard too and I ran it. It deleted a ton of files and I seen it delete some Nero files which I was scared because I thought it was deleting very important files from Nero [although I'm not sure, all I saw was Nero files and other stuff going fast in the list]. I thought it destroyed some of the important files of my system and you know what I'm not sure if it did so maybe I was paranoid. Anyways I deleted xp off my drive and reinstalled it because I had fear that it ruined stuff even though my system still booted up fine. I also noticed it took a heck of a long time to run the wizard on v6 which I was testing.

Anyways it's been years now and I'm sure my v4 of System Mechanic that I still have on my pc is not doing me any good anymore with all the advancements in software and the way windows xp is now. My work gave m... Read more

Hi everybody,

a customer has a problem with his KMS.
He imaged clients with a syspreped image and activated the clients properly.
Now he got some clients, which can't be activated. And we can't find the error.
The error showed, that he didn't meet the threshold.
The server count shows 50, so it should be possible to activate the clients.
Any idea/help is appreciated

best regards

Dirk

Answer:New install Windows7 Professional 64 bit problem

Hello there,

In windows7 the shit down button is custumizable to either put the pc in to sleep mode or hibernate. In your case it might be set to put your pc into sleep mode rather then shutting your pc down. Here is a link to another thread on this forum to show you how to do this,

hi, i asking to know 2 things:
1) Is it possible to install the 64 bit professional over my already instaled 32bit win7 home premium edition
2) will i need a fresh install of windowsor just use the in place upgrade?

As i have a large amount of games installed using Steam, will it be possible to make a hard drive partition to store the files on and then copy them back, removing the need for the tedious downloads?

thanks for the help in advance.
(hope this is in the correct section)

Yes it is possible, and yes it absolutely needs a clean install. No the games need to be re-installed and you should use the 64 bit versions of any app that is 64 bit.

The second technical preview of Windows Server 2016 will be launching in May as the first one nears its expiration date.

Windows Server is being developed and targeted for an early 2016 release, however, the latest and greatest preview builds haven't been released to the public by Microsoft since October 2014. At the same time, Windows 10 builds have been released regularly to Windows Insiders.

I have just succeeded in hooking my Windows 10 client to Windows Server Essentials 2016. To do this I had to switch the W10 from a Workgroup to Domain setup.
All works fine except most of the desktop items originally on the client icons disappeared. Worse when I launce things like Outlook, Word etc. I have to initialize it from scratch.
How does one get all the settings, desktop icons etc. to re-appear on this new account that is now chanced from a Workgroup to a Domain setting.
I am an administrator (and only user) on both the W10 and WSE-2016. I see under users my original name on the W10/Workgroup and a new name. The new name does not have many files in it. I assume that?s the problem. But when I copy stuff from the old name folder across the programs are still not initialized correctly.

I have a server (inherited) that has the following disk partitions: C, G, H. I have configured the registry to remove the default admin shares that are automatically created by Windows 2003 Server. The C$ share has disappeared as it should. However, the G$ and H$ shares will not go away. I have added both the AutoShareServer and AutoShareWks DWORD keys (value of 0 for each) to the proper location in the registry. Will Windows not remove default admin shares beyond a certain drive letter? Perhaps some mechanism to protect possible network shares? I would appreciate any assistance you may be able to offer.

We have Windows 2008 installed on our Dell server and we are using as file server with SQL database, recently I found out someone gets in our server and keeps installing toolbars, that may be auto robot installing, I have no idea, when I check history of firefox I see facebook.com, google.com some paid survey websites, links to download toolbars, I mean bunch of stuffs, I uninstalled all kind of toolbars and everything I see suspicious, changed username and passwords, changed RDP port numbers, I mean everything I can think of..
I though I was good then today I found out more toolbars installed after business hours when no-body, literary no one had access to our office, no history from firefox though but 4 toolbars installed today at 8pm (everybody leaves at 5PM)
