Ideapad 710S Plus - laptop does not start (no noise, no screen, just black screen)

Question: Ideapad 710S Plus - laptop does not start (no noise, no screen, just black screen)

Hello, my Ideapad 710S Plus-13IKB does not power on anymore. There is no noise and just a black screen. The keyboard also does not light up.Yesterday evening I have just shut down my laptop regularly. Today it is not working anymore. Since my laptop model does not allow to remove the battery, this is not an option for me as several support articles say. When plugging in the power supply, the small LED light at the side of the laptop lights up. But besides of that, nothing happens. The Novo button also does not work. Model Name: 80W3CPU: Intel i7-7500U 2.7GRAM: 8 GBSSD: 256 GBDisplay 13.3" FHDBattery: 4 cellOS: Windows 10 Home 64-bit Thanks for your help.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I have a Lenovo Yoga 13 that is out of warranty. I bought it in 2013.  With that out o' the way, my Lenovo Yoga 13's screen stays black even when the power is on...I see no Lenovo logo or anything AND the laptop keeps restarting on its own, so it is stuck in restart mode, with the screen staying black the whole time.  This laptop has been doing this (black screen even though power is on and shuts off and restarts on its own) for about 6 months now....(Jan 2017-June 3, 2017 as of this writing). This laptop works WHEN IT WANTS TO EVERY ONCE IN AWHILE, BUT NOT OFTEN.  I turned the laptop on now, and I'm typing on it now, **BUT when it doesn't work, which is most of the time**, it shows a black screen (I see nothing on the screen) even with the power on and constantly restarts on its own. Is this hardware issue a motherboard problem or a screen issue specifically? Specifically, is it the motherboard that needs to be fixed on this Yoga 13 or is it a screen issue? If it's a motherboard issue that needs to be fixed, how much would it cost? Or If it's a screen issue, how much would that cost to fix? Any help on this is much needed!

Answer:**Yoga 13: Laptop screen stays black when power is ON, & fan makes noise, but nothing on screen**

Hello Complex1Thanks for using the Lenovo forums.

Sounds like this will be an issue with the HDD or MOBO instead of the Display I believe.
Try running an LSC scan, it may be able to detect a hardware issue on the unit.
1. Please click on the following link2. Under the section ?Download? select the relevant Hyperlink dependant on whether your Lenovo is running Windows 7/8/8.1 32 bit or 64 bit. 3. When prompted, select save and browse to a drive and directory in which to save the downloaded files. 4. Navigate to the folder where you saved the installation file, lscsetup_x86_26001.exe. 5. Double-click the installation file icon to start the installation. 6. Follow the onscreen instructions via the installation wizard that will install Lenovo Solution Centre on your system. 7. Once installed you will have a ?Lenovo Solution Centre? icon on your desktop please click to open this. 8. Once solution center is opened please select ?Checkup? then ?Hardware Scan? and ?Full Scan? 9. This will take up to 20 minutes, see if this can find any errors.

HI all On this idea pad when the pc boots there is nothing on the screen . No splash screen, no bios.  No post    All that happens is that the screen flickers between a light black screen and then a darker one .  I tried doing the 30 second power button trick and connecting it to a tv via hdmi and vga but the TV states there is no signal . After this I took apart the laptop and removed everything . I then removed the cmos and jumped the jack but that still didn't do anything . I took out the internal battery and tried the power button trick and still no joy  The laptop is only a month old . Does anyone have an idea what's going on with it or is there any special keys I cam press on start up to try trigger a diagnostics .  Any help would be greatly appreciated

I'll give anyone who reads this as much info as possible.

I have a desktop build that contains these parts:
ASRock > N68-S UCC
Rocketfish
200gb hdd (shows up as about 186 gb)
4 gb ddr ram (motherboard only supports ddr2)
Amd Phenom II 3.1GHZ dual core cpu
some sort of forward slot that has one usb 2.0 port with media card slots (sd card, micro sd, smart card ect)
a dvd (aka cd drive) by sony
nvidia gt 520 (silent model with a HUGE heatsink)
550 watt psu

Here's the deal... The sound was not working. I would plug in headphones/speakers and no joy from any ports. NO sound what so ever. So I opened it up, and there is absolutely no reason why it would not be working except there is no cable for "hd audio" and that there's no cables on usb power 2 and some random "fan" all on the motherboard. I also found these weird connectors, as if a cable had been stripped from the cable connector. This is an older computer, I don't know its full history but it was very weird.

So I tried resetting the cables. Powered it back on, and no joy. The video was gone. Acer model 15" reports that there is no signal, and then goes to an amber light on the power light.

I'm afraid I have killed my motherboard. I took it out of the casing, did the bread setup and tried it with different ram and a brand new 350 watt PSU. No joy again. Tried clearing the CMOS... looked for obvious motherboard damage (found none) all parts in good condition* except for one thing............... Read more

Hello everyone, I've recently bought a brand new ideapad 710s and I'm having some issues with it. The problem is that the laptop's fan is making loud noises and it is heating up real fast even though I don't play games or use softwares that might pressure the laptop. Basiscally, I use it for microsoft office and internet surfing. Did anyone have the same problem? How could I solve this issue? Any help will be appreciated.

I just bought a new Ideapad Z580 and it turns on, powers up, but nothing happens on the screen. I have no boot discs, no software that was shipped with this computer, just a really bad 4-step start up document.  I AM INCREDIBLY DISAPPOINTED SO FAR. Any help anyone can give is most appreciated.

Answer:Brand New Z580 Ideapad Won't Start (Black Screen)

Sorry to hear this!   Do you see any activity lights on the PC?

What if you remove the battery and AC, then press and hold the power button for several seconds (do this a couple of times).   Then re-attach battery and AC and try to start up again....

See if that works.

Else, see my PM... just need some info and can try to arrange additional help.

Best regards,

I just bought this laptop for about 1 month, the laptop work fine before. But after...I don't know maybe after the windows update, the driver make the screen flickering and some dots appear on the screen, sometimes the screen lagging and went black. I'm pretty sure it's because of the driver because if I disable it, everything is fine, but that is just a temporary fix, every games is unplayable when I disable the driver. I tried to reinstall it using driver from Intel, Windows, Lenovo but none of them work(newest)

Hi, My u410 Touch is 3 months old, runs on Windows 8 x64. On normal start-ups the screen shows a lenovo logo when I press the power button. Only recently, when I try to power up the laptop, it shows a black screen and does not load.  You can hear the fans running and all, but the screen is black and just freezes and doesnt load or power down until i force shutdown it. Tried some options from online forums (e.g may be due to the wndows 8 fast-start option, so i turned it off but it still doesnt work, updated all available updates via windows update but still doesnt work.) I can still power-up the computer, but its after persistent forced shutdowns till it is able to power up, sometimes it can take almost an hour. If anyone out there has this similar issue, please share your solution! Hope to be able to solve this issue soon as it is really getting on my nerves.

Over the past two weeks I have been troubleshooting an U530 Touch Laptop (ideapad) - Type 80AS. The problem that im experiencing is a black screen on startup. Initially I thought that it mightve been a display driver issue, I went into safe mode and installed the said drivers and it worked for a little while until about a week later.(Drivers were from Lenovo website other drivers didnt seem to work). I am kind of confused of what could be the problem, perhaps hardware? I would appreciate any input or suggestions. I have tried using an alternate monitor and at times it works for a while but other times it wouldnt recieve any signal. I am running Windows 8.1 and can still boot into safe mode,  These are some things that I have tried:Reinstalling the entire OS from the Lenovo backup - this worked on the intitial startup, on reboot however black screen.Reinstalling drivers - Worked momentarily on and off, moderate success. Trying to login from the blackscreen doesnt workI have disabled Windows from automatically installing driver updates *Off topic- the hinges on the laptop screen have broken off, have tried to put it together with epoxy, hot glue, superglue and all have failed. (Warranty is expired)

My kid has been using this laptop and loved it, but mentioned a while ago it was difficult to power it back on after turnned it off. However she managed to work around by putting it in hibernate/sleeping mode only, or recycling the system many times (by holding on power button to force it off). The issue was black screen (no Lenovo logo) but computer was on. I didn't pay much attention because she can still make it work, and I was too busy. Last week, there was a windows update (again) and the computer was forced recycle. It never comes back alive again. The same, computer is humming, but no any visual output on screen, just black. Tried novo button, bootable USB, external monitor, all no use. Check the warranty, just over by 2 months! Asked the service store, to fix will cost at least $200-$300 to replace the motherboard! It does not make sense when spent a bit more could buy a new notebook. But my kid liked it and it does not make sense to throw it away either, when it still looks pretty new and only being used very lightly (schoolwork only). It is sad, especially the brand has been gainning my trust. I probably don't expect a "good" solution either from Lenovo or community, but just throw my frustration here (only because have just registered the account and there is no support email or web form). If Lenovo want to make customer happy, the part shouldn't be so expensive for a short-lived laptop! Just by the way, there are many posts about Ideapad's black screen i... Read more

Answer:Lenovo Ideapad U410 - no screen output or black screen, and just out of warranty

Welcome to the Lenovo Community !

Sorry to hear of all the problems.  Here are a couple of things to try........

First, try a reset of the BIOS.  The procedure can be useful in resolving some hardware conflicts which your computer may have.  Just do this......

1. Unplug the charger / adapter. 2. Press and hold the Power Button for 15 seconds. 3. Plug in the charger / adapter if needed and power up the system to see if the problem was resolved.

If you are comfortable working inside your laptop. try this........

Try the reset again with the battery removed.

If the reset didn't resolve the problem then you may have a failed piece of hardware preventing the bootup. Remove the battery, hard drive, optical drive, memory, wireless card and bluetooth if it is installed. Now try to power up the stripped laptop. With all the hardware removed you should have lights come on and it may possibly beep since there is no memory installed. If the laptop is showing signs of life start adding hardware one piece at a time starting with a memory module and boot up the laptop. If it doesn't power up try the memory in the other slot. Also try the other memory module separately in both slots if two are available. If it is still showing signs of life add another piece and boot. Do this for each item until it doesn't power up again. The last piece of hardware installed is your problem part.

Please help. My Ideapad has basically stopped working.  My operating system is Windows 7 Home Edition.  A few days ago, my computer froze up and I got the blue Windows screen that says: "A problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer.  A process or thread crucial to system operation has unexpectedly exited or been terminated..."  The blue screen went on to say that I should restart Windows with safe-mode and remove any recently added programs.  I did this and I believe I successfully removed Java, which is the only new software I updated recently (although I wish I had not).  I was also able to restore my computer to about a week before the crash. However, only rarely am I able to get windows to start again at all, whether in safe mode or not.  I'd say 4 out of 5 times, I am seeing the Lenovo boot-up screen for about 3 minutes, and then I get a black screen that says the following: Intel UNDI.  PXE-2.1 (build 082)Copyright (C) 1997-2000 Intel Corporation This Product is covered by one or more of the following patents:US5,307,459, US5,434,872, US5,732, US6,570,884, US6,115,776 andUS6,327,625 Realtek PCI Express Gigabit Ethernet Controller Series v2.26 (090219)PXE-E61:  Media test failure, check cablePXE-M0F:  Exiting PXE ROMOperating system not found That message repeats itself if I press any key, and if I press the power button the... Answer:Black Screen On Start-Up - Laptop

Ashley,

I have to take off to go to an onsite job however here are a couple of items to look for before I leave. Please keep in mind that this can be so many different things with the information you have provided. (Did you really utilize the word smorning? ) You must be from Chicago area. I grew up with that word.

1. Do the lights come on when you push the power button both on battery and plugged in without the battery in?

2. If the lights do come on, does it sound like the computer is booting into Windows? Do you get the sound of windows starting (unless of course you have more than one user or you have to click on your username before you can sign in and it will just go to the sign on screen and will not make any noise)

3. Do you have a monitor to hook up to the laptop? Turn the laptop off, hook the monitor up to it, turn the laptop back on. You may have to push the output buttons to get it to come onto the screen. This would be FN and (look at your F keys. You will have either CRT/LCD or a horribly designed picture of what is supposed to be a monitor, usually F4, F5, F7 or F8 depending on what kind of computer you have)

4. If it outputs to the monitor screen but not your Laptops LCD screen, turn off the laptop, unhook the monitor, turn the laptop back on and really look at the screen from an angle. See if you can just barely see a picture in the screen. If this is the case, you have a bad inverter in the latop. They are between $89.00 - $189.00 depending on your comp... Read more

Hey everyone, My Intel HD graphics 520 driver continuously crashes and basically shuts down my computer. The power button/keys are still on, but I just get a black screen (with some light behind it), as if it is in sleep mode, and I cannot wake up my computer anymore. The only solution then is to just force it off by holding the power button and restart it. I feel it happens at random, but it seems to occur more often when I'm playing a video or something (although that may just be a coincidence). I've had this problem for a long time and have tried several times to reinstall or update the driver. Because I got so fed up with it I just disabled the driver and used the NVIDIA Geforce 920M driver, which works sort of fine with the only big disadvantages that I can't increase or reduce the brightness of my screen anymore and can't run certain programs/games properly. So, therefore, I'm still looking for a solution.  Can anybody help me out?

Problem
- I booted my laptop yesterday however it only came out with a black screen with a mouse pointer, no loading or anything that you usually see on startup. I forced shut down my laptop and turn it back on and everything went back to normal. However this happened again earlier today so I consulted my friend about this and he told me it was a computer virus where the virus activates on startup, and told me to go to this website for help.

OS
- Windows 8.1

Things I have tried
- "SFC /Scannow" CMD command - Came out with no integrity Violations

- MCafee virus scan - Did not do anything

Hi I have a compaq laptop running windows 7. I've had it for 4 months. Once in a while it would freeze and start back up with start up repair, but then it was fine. I have microsoft security free. Now it won't start up. It stays in the black screen. I've tried F8 F12 and F2 but still won't start. I've tried hooking a external monitor with no luck. The fan comes on and the caps light comes on, the wifi light is yellow but other than that it is just black. Plz help. Idk what to do, it's my son's laptop and he needs it for school. I've tried searching some posts before I started my new thread but couldn't find anything related to mine. I did find some that said to try the function keys but mine won't even do that. It seems like it's in sleep mode but it isn't, maybe it is but It won't turn on so I can diagnose it. I would appreciate any help.

Black Screen with cursor?
Please help! (Emachines Laptop)
When I switch my laptop on it comes up with a black screen with just the cursor in the top left, this happens before I get to any login screens etc, It's like its wanting to boot a CD but there;s no CD/DVD in the rom! Even when I have put one in, it still hasn't worked :(
I've looked on lots of forums but none have helped.
The only thing that works is F2 that takes me to InsydeH20 Setup Utility &
F12 Boot menu
But they dont help!
I've tried the usual F8 for safe mode but no such luck, nothing happens, still the same black screen with cursor!
Any help on how to fix this would be massively appreciated!

Answer:Laptop will not start! Black Screen with cursor?

First try discharging all the voilitile memory and static, Unlplug from mains, take out the battery. Now press and hold in the Power On button for at least 30 seconds. Now reassemble switch on and see it if it boots up into W7.
If that doesn't work then try:
Power on or reboot your computer. Press F11 when you see the prompt text on the bottom of of the screen when it gets to the POST screen. (Or simply reboot the machine and keep pressing F11 repeatedly until the Windows 7 system restore process starts and shows you the menu to choose from)
Choose the Non-Destructive System Restore ? This recovers the operating system, all programs, and drivers that were installed by default. Any files currently on the computer should not be damaged by this process. (Meaning that you get to keep all of your documents, pictures, videos, etc when using this option.

Yesterday, I purchased a Toshiba Satellite M305D-S4830 laptop.  I loaded my previous computer's files onto it, and then wanted to see how Half Life 2 would look on it.  After playing for about 30 minutes (it worked fine, looked awesome, no lag at all, etc.), my screen randomly turned into a small checkerboard pattern of red, green and other colored squares, the sound stopped and nothing worked.  I turned it off and on again, and now on start up, the power button and buttons at the top light up but the screen stays black.  Tried letting it cool down for a while (put it next to the air conditioner for a minute), took the battery/ power cord out and put them back in... but nothing. What in the world happened and how can I fix it?   I'm going to return it to Best Buy today and, because of this, have decided to get a better laptop instead (the Toshiba A305-S6858).  However, I'd like to fix it before then if possible so I can remove my files, etc, because I used my brother's Steam account to set up Half Life and don't want to risk his account being hacked, lol.Specs:-Windows Vista Home Premium Edition OS, 64-bit-AMD Turion X2 Ultra dual-core processor ZM-80 at 2.1GHz-4GB of DDR2 memory-250GB hard drive-integrated ATI RADEON 3100 graphicsAny help is greatly appreciated!!  Thanks!

If I were in your shoes, I would just hand it over to Best Buy (seeing as you just bought it and it crashed on you).Personally, I wouldn't try to recover data if the computer cannot boot anymore. (it might void your warranty)

Been struggling to get my niece's laptops up and running. Windows 7 on a Toshiba satellite L655-S5150. Both laptops do the same thing at start up...freeze at a black screen with a blinking cursor. I have tried the following:

windows 7 system repair disk...no errors found
Kapersky repair disk...does not seem to load at times but did get it to load fully once in graphical mode and a few viruses were found but some could not be healed, or whatever they called it
AVG and Bit something or other were also tried...
I have booted via a CD and a USB stick but still in the end when I try to boot the windows 7 system it hangs on the black screen

Thinking of purchasing the Toshiba HDD drive utility or whatever it is called...$39... in laws don't have any disks that came with these laptops...windows 7 home premium version
help???

Thanks....dan

Answer:black screen at start up with Toshiba laptop

Hi Dan!Both laptops do the same thing at start up...freeze at a black screen with a blinking cursor. I have tried the following:You're experiencing this issue on 2 laptops? I just want to make sure I'm understanding things correctly.Sounds like you might be infected with an infection known as ZeroAccess.Could you please describe what issues you were experiencing before the freezing issue at boot-up started? Do you happen to know if it's a 32 bit version of Windows 7 or if it's 64 bits?Let me know.Warmest Regards,ST.

Hi,I've got a dell insiron 1520 laptop and at start ups, when loading the desktop the desktop loads, but then the screen goes black for about 10 seconds before loading normally. Now this doesn't cause any problems, but I just wanted to know if this is normal as I'm still in waranty, and if it is the sign of a problem then would want to get it sorted out. This is my first laptop so not sure if this is perfectly normal.Best regardsSteve

hi,hopefully somebody can help me with my problem.

I have a Panasonic Toughbook Cf-29, System a 512 MB and 80 GB. It has a intel pentium processor 1200MHZ.

My computer was having some problems before it got messed up. As long as the computer was on the internet ever 15 or 20 min a audio advertisement would pop up out of no where. There was no window to exit it out and i also tryed CTRL+ALT+DEL and it would show no window was up.Also everytime id go to google.com and search something it would redirect me to another web site.

Well i was on my computer today and it froze so i restarted it.
The blue Panasonic screen comes up and then a solid black screen comes up and nothing after that.

I tryed F8 and clicking "Last knowin good configuration" and after the screen turns black but the computer is still on because the light is green.

i tyed safe mode also and it stops going at:
Windows/system32/drivers/isapnp.sys
and then it wont go any further than that.

i also tryed debugging mode and the black screen comes up and nothing after that.

I tryed putting the system recovery disk(1 of 3) in but nothing comes up. For some reason the disk never starts up,even when its working..I can go to "my computer" and it says recovery disk and once i click on it theres tons of folders in there but for some reason it never works...

Answer:My laptop wont start up. Black screen

try updating your bios/firmware and also if that dont work then go into bios on startup (if possible) then reset to manufacturer defaults

My laptop is less than a year old and I've been having problems with it for the past 6 months or so. I have Windows Vista.
It started with weird noises from the the fan and then it started randomly blacking out but not turning all the way off. The yesterday morning I went to check my e-mail and the Startup Repair thing was running. I let it run for the whole day and it didn't change. Since then I've tried the System Restore (I restored it to five days ago and it didn't make any difference), the Windows Memory Diagnostic Tool (it said nothing was wrong with the memory), and the Recovery Manager (64 bits) (doesn't make a difference either). When I viewed the diagnostic and repair details it seemed to be working but eventually the error 0x0 started to show up. This is what it says:

Hi all Had this problem off and on for a few months. My laptop was incredibly slow for a long while, becoming increasingly difficult to use all the time. Until it got to the stage now where it won't even turn on. Turning it on goes one of two ways:  - Sometimes it will turn on but go to system diagnostics. I do the hard drive check (the quick one as the full one doesn't appear to be an optin for ) and it always says its fine. I usually jstexit the menu them and it starts up- Sometimes (like now) it turns on, shows the hp screen, the windows icon, and then a black screen. The thinking circle icon (sorry, don't know what the name is!) might stay on, the cursor is there sometimes...  so maybe it is just starting very very slowly... but its been about 20 minutes already... I have done a hard reset countless times (Battey out and hold down the power button) but it doesn't so anything. There are somethings that i would at least liek to try and get off it before i give up on it entirely! I've had it  for maybe 2/3 years.. hoped it would last longer but if its gone it's gone.  Any advice appreciated - thanks in advance. K

Recently I started up a laptop only to face the laptop loading a "Automatic repair" so i let it do it's thing for 12hrs (overnight). Next morning i woke up to start on the laptop once more hoping a PC fairy fixed it whilst i was asleep, unfortunately the error was too much for the PC fairy to handle and it might be even worse.
On start up the Laptop shows a lovely black-screen, i tried to fix the hard drive with no success still stuck on the "repairing" screen for 6+ hours.
If i may ask anyone know a possible for fix for this error? (hard drive failure)

I have a Gateway M685-E laptop running XP and Ubuntu, this morning when pushed the power button nothing would load.

The AC LED stays on as well as the light under the power button, while the NumLock and the CapsLock flash on then off, which might be normal.

The screen stays black but you can tell it is getting power by the shade of black it changes when it powers up.

The last time I used it I shut it off by holding the power button.

So far I have tried:

Removing AC power and battery
Removing RAM
Removing CMOS battery (or whatever its called, it looks like a watch battery)
Removing Hard Drive

I'm praying that its not a fried Mother Board, could it be a corrupted BIOS?
Please help,
thanks

Hi there,

My wife has Lenovo G560 laptop (16 months old), and just recently it's started doing a few things it shouldn't.

When powering up she'll press the 'power' button, and it'll come up with either a totally black screen, or the opening 'Lenovo' splash screen (where it's loading stuff, I guess) before either staying there locked up or going black. Restarting is the only way to get things up and running - and then it always takes at least 1 re-boot every time - often 2 or 3 reboots.

It's steadliy become more frequent, to the stage it's at now where it happens every time.

I had suspicions that a recent install of Photoshop might've been the culprit, but uninstalling it has made no difference. A Malwarebytes scan resulted in some viruses, which have been removed by the program, and scans now come up clean. Seems System Restore was turned off (It's on now)

Any suggestions much appreciated,

Answer:Solved: Start laptop - sometimes black screen, sometimes fine.

the only things that i have installed lately are windows updates, and avg updates, and the new firefox.

i think it is something to do with the update which must install after the few days and trigger the problem again

Heya!

So lately i am having big issues with my laptop Lenovo Y510P. It chrashes at random and sometimes creates looping sound of the last sound played. Sometimes it chrashes to black screen that says Start PXE over IPv4 and sometimes it just stays there frozen wiht that looping sound. There is a posibility that the charging is somehow to blame because when i do the "flee power" thing the laptop works fine for some time but than just chrashes at random. If i dont do that flee power than it works really sloppy and chrashes a lot more often. Oh and i removed the battery just to be sure that the battery isnt causing the problem and it isnt.

So what do you think?

Answer:Laptop chrashes into a black screen that says Start PXE over IPv4

What this usually means is that the system has passed by the hard drive (in the boot sequence) and has gone to the "boot from network" option.
This usually means that either the boot stuff on the hard drive is missing/not recognized, or that the hard drive is dead/dyging.

Start with these free hardware diagnostics:  http://www.carrona.org/hwdiag.html
Start with the hard drive diagnostics please.

If those tests pass, then try Startup Repair.
How to get into it depends upon the version of Windows that you're using (Window Vista/7/8/10)

Hi, i have a Laptop (Hp Pavillion dv2620us), ever since i bought which wasnt to long ago, maybe like a month or two ago, the start-up has been really delayed. But i mean serious. The booting process is fine and the computer works just fine,(except for my cd/dvd drive which has stopped working, but thats another issue i posted on another thread) so when the Log In Screen comes up and asks me for my password, i press enter, and it starts doing its thing but after about 3 seconds after pressing enter my screen goes completely black. This probably lasts for about a minute or two, after waiting, the mose pointer finally shows up, and then it starts doing the start-up, it shows my wallpaper and start bar, and it starts loading the start-up programs, Im not sure if thats normal, the black screen-waiting a century for it, or might it be the laptop? which i dont think so, i mean its a pretty good laptop, not an amazing one but i mean its good. i would really appreciate it alot if someone could help me on this problem.

And no its not that i have my computer packed with software and add-ons, my hard drive is about 25% full. but its not even me, it been like this since day one. thank you in advance.

Answer:Long laptop start-up (black screen) after Loggin In.

What Operating System ? How much RAM ? What size Hard Drive ?
What Antivirus/firewall are you using ? Are they updated ? Have you scanned your system ?
Have you installed any system skins/themes or skin editors (StyleXP , WindowsBlinds etc) ? They can be a scourge if you apply a badly coded theme .
If you only bought this recently and the problem has been there from day one you should really have brought it back for a replacement .....

Hi, I'm really hoping someone can help me. My wife's laptop (Dell Inspiron E1505) won't start windows XP. It goes from the dell startup screen and then just goes black. It doesn't seem to be a monitor issue. She told me that the day this happened she got a warning about a trojan virus. I downloaded the XP recovery console on another computer and was able to boot it directly from the cd drive. I've only run chkdsk on it and that's about as far as I got. Any help would greatly be appreciated!

Also as a note, I cannot boot in safe mode either.

Thanks.

Hi. I've not found an identical thread or a solution for this. I hope someone can help. I have a HP Probook G1. Details in screenshot below. I want to install additional memory and bought the following: SAMSUNG 8GB 204 pin DDR3L-1600 SO-DIMM (1600Mhz, PC3L-12800S, CL11, 1.35V Low Power for Notebook) When I install the memory, the laptop no longer boots up. After pressing the on/off button, I just get a black screen, the capslock and numlock LEDs blink and the cooler fan runs at high revs. Nothing else happens. I've tried installing only the new memory and installing it in the second memory card slot with the original memory still in place. In both cases the laptop fails to start. I've tried doing a complete system reset (battery removed, start on power only) etc. but to no avail. Please help! The laptop is unbelievably slow with only 4GB memory. :-(

When i Switch on my Lenovo Y410 laptop, after the LENOVO welcome page, it goes to black screen. But it was was not the LCD screen problem as i can still access the BIOS. But when i press F8 try to access the safe mode, after i enter, after a few lines "multi(0)..partition(1)...' my screen just hang over there...it cant proceed me to the safe mode screen to back up my data. How can i back up my data? As lots of my documents are at the "Desktop". I cant use the OneRecovery Key' as once i use it, all my data in C drive will lost. So how? Any Suggestions for me to back up my data before format it?

Answer:Urgent Help:Black Screen for my Lenovo Y410 laptop while start up

First, two ways I can think of to back up your data: 1. Remove hard drive from laptop and place in a external enclosure. You will need a 2.5 inch enclosure with a SATA internal interface.Very common, and resonable price.Access the drive from another computer and copy your files to a flash drive,or external hard drive, and restore to laptop when problem solved. 2. Attach a external hard drive/flash drive and boot with a Linux live disk.Linux Mint should work with the Y410, or Ubuntu, or many others.Find and transfer your files to the external drive. Both options require some knowledge of how to find the files, and a external device of some type. If you are not familiar with Linux, and how to download and create a live disk, the first option wouldpossibly be easier. When using a flash drive, make sure it is large enough tohold your files. I have used both methods with sucess. Second, I assume you have Vista on your computer?Whichever OS you have, there are ways to attempt to repair your startup problem. If you did not create recovery disks, find someone with a generic Windowsinstall disk in the matching OS. Boot with this, and you can attempt repair withrecovery options available. This is a different topic, and others may have some good pointers for you.

Answer:laptop screen got blank/black, only start with low resolution in Safe

Hi, naf112. Have you checked your Graphics Card or does it have a Blue Screen (DSOD) which says it shuts down to prevent damage or does it suddenly go black? If it has a BSOD it might have a problem with a installed app or update, but if it suddenly blanks out, try pressing F8 Repeatedly once the PC starts without reaching the time Windows logo would pop out, once it appears, you need to restart again and after you got in the Advanced Boot Options, try pressing on "Fix your Computer" or anything with Fix (Not Boot Fix) it could help you on the problem, if not, try checking your Graphics Card, it could have a problem with a broken Graphic Card, if anything happens Please Consult your PC's Manufacturer or a Professional, Thank you

I am attempting to remove a virus from a friend's toshiba a505-s69803 laptop.. in the transportation process i spilt a bit of water on the laptop but i do not think it effected the computer, because i was able to use the computer for days afterwards.. while trying to remove the virus in safe mode the computer would not let me run any anti-malware programs, and then subsequently shut down... now, when i try to start up the computer the keyboard lights turn on and the disc drives and fans begin working, but the screen remains blank... there are no signal beeps to indicate a hardware malfunction, and the three of the five lights on the front of the laptop (3 on the left side) are on... ive tried all the troubleshooting techniques on the forums, i.e. removing the battery and running on ac power, and vice versa, holding down the power button for 30 sec, 45 sec, 1 min, and 2 mins, all to no avail.. another computer savvy friend of mine said that some of these new viruses are smart enough to write itself to the bios which would prevent the computer from starting up... he recommended flashing the bios, but i do not know how to do so on a black screen, or if it might have been the water damage that may be causing a hardware problem (im thinking motherboad or video card if so)... any ideas would be greatly appreciated..

Answer:Laptop will start up but screen stays black, not a computer amateur but need help!

These new viruses are truly evil... and wide spread. We have had over 30 cases since Wednesday... all doing what you describe.

But the Toshiba is also infamous for having the screen inverter go bad... cheap to replace but darn difficult to get at quickly.

Can you connect an external monitor to the VGA port on the back of the Toshiba to see what you get there?

Hi.I hope everyone reading this is having a better start to their day than me. My Toshiba laptop (satellite L850-166) has stopped working and i know nothing about computers. After an hour looking on the net for a solution i am even more confused, so any help offered will have to be in noob language please.
So here goes.
I was watching a youtube video and my computer froze.

I left it for a bit to see if it would sort itself but it didnt.

I tried to start the task manager but that wouldnt open.

I then held the power button down and shut the computer down.

When i restarted the computer it showed the Toshiba screen (as usual) giving me the F2 and F12 options for setup and boot menu.

It then went to a screen saying windows was loading files (not seen this screen before) the progress bar underneath the message then filled up.

After about 30 seconds a new screen showed with a coloured progress bar with  microsoft corporation  written underneath. This bar only filled to a quarter then the screen went black. There is a mouse cursor on the screen that i have control of.

I have left it for half an hour and nothing changes. I have also tried to start the computer a few times but its the same every time.

If anyone knows what my problem is or can offer advice on it i would be most grateful. We have some family photos on the computer and i need to get them
Also Minecraft is calling and all my saves are on the computer.

Answer:Laptop wont start. I just get a black screen with the mouse cursor on it

Hi, can you get it to boot into safe mode?
To do so, from start up keep tapping the F8 key, that should give you the Advanced Boot Options screen, use the up and down keys to highlight Safe mode, or safe mode with networking, then press the Enter key. If it boots into safe mode, or not, let us know, whoever comes next will help further.

Any idea what the problem could be? I'm stumped and thinking the laptop may just be trash now.

Answer:Toshiba Laptop won't start up- blinking cursor on black screen

Most often failure to boot disk is a user failure, not hardware. Keep trying, more vigorously. Sometimes what helps is to reset the CMOS which can also be done by pulling the battery if you can access it easily enough on your lappy.

You need to work through these steps for Troubleshooting Windows 7 Failure to Start.

There are some Boot disks/flash sticks provided in the steps that will boot themselves without user input so I'd boot Hiren’s BootCD 15.1 or Hiren's BootCD From USB Flash Drive to run an A/V test, test your HD and RAM, Check File System and Active partition with Partition Wizard on Hirens.

But if you can't get the Win7 installer or Repair CD to boot you may need to rescue your files using Rescue disk in Step 9, then wipe the HD using Partition Wizard on Hirens, which will force the installer to start to Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7.

You can also try getting the inferior Toshiba HDD Recovery Utility if you can get the Fkey to boot it.

Hello, I'm unsure if this will be a continuous problem for me, this is the first that it's happened, so I decided to ask here to see what caused this, if anyone knows.
This morning, booted my laptop. It remained a black screen and then started beeping. I can't say how many beeps there were, I want to say it was either 4 or 8 though. Hard powered it off in fear, and then unplugged the laptop. To my surprise, when it was unplugged, it turned back on and now it seems to be working fine.
My laptop is a Dell Inspiron 15, 5000 Series, and I've had it for less than a month, so if it's anything major, warranty I assume would cover it. But wanted to ask first, if this was an error of some sort or if this is a sign of something serious. It's been working fine before, this is a first for it.

Answer:Laptop Beeped and Black Screen When Start Up, Turned On When Unplugged

4 beeps = memory error
8 beeps = display panel not recognized.
Start with a call to Dell support (you'll need to walk through troubleshooting before service/repair is authorized).

Hi, I have a Toshiba laptop (Satellite C850) (using Windows 7), while in use it just shut off and now when I turn it on it will start up to a black screen with a white line in the left hand corner of the screen then after a few seconds it will turn off and then start back up with the same white line and then turn off again and then restart and so on. It will do this and won't stop unless I turn the power button off. How do I fix this?? I have tried leaving it for a long while, I have tried unplugging it and taking the battery out and putting back in and turning it on again, but still no change. I can't get the boot menu up either I have tried pressing f12 and all the f buttons but nothing. I'm not very good at getting computers to work, would someone please be able to help me?

From the day I got this laptop it always had battery problems, it would always say please replace your battery and have an x on the battery sign in the task bar, and now it has gotten to the point where I can only have my laptop on with it plugged into the power cord and it will turn straight off if I shut it down. Could this play a part in what is happening now with it?

I am worried too because all my assignments and work is on my laptop, if I can't get it to start up is there any way I can save all my work that was on it?

I really hope someone can help me, thanks for reading

Answer:Toshiba laptop won't start up.. Black screen, white line

Did you purchase this new? You indicate you've had issues since day one, so why did you decide to keep it instead of replacing it with a working one?

Anyway, your problem is either a loose connection to the display or an onboard graphics card problem. To troubleshoot, connect your laptop to an external display via the VGA or HDMI out ports. If you can successfully boot into Windows, then it's a guaranteed problem with your laptop display.

Also, can provide a picture of your screen while it's exhibiting this behavior?

To address your last concern, you should be able to remove its internal 2.5" hard drive and install it in a new device (or purchase an adapter) to access your data.

Running Windows 8

My laptop is currently infected with some form of Malware. I have removed most of it as far as I can tell, though a problem still remains with my laptop screen being flat black when I boot up the laptop. I am still able to open programs and do things on the laptop, albeit with a workaround with Task Manager's "Run new task" feature.

I am running Malwarebytes, for the second time since this happened after restarting to finish a scan. Not sure what else I can say to help identify the problem, so I'll list the processes in Task Manager that I dont recognize, then say if any of them solved the problem by closing them

Spooler Subsystem App
WMI Provider Host (this one I close out and it seems to come back, located ina folder named "WBEM in the "System32" folder

If anyone happens to have ay insight as to what may be causing me to have no desktop, or anything besides a black screen and the ability to open Task Manager, I would appreciate the feedback

I purchased this computer recently "as is". The screen is dark, black upon start up and remains this way. The operating system works fine as I can use a flashlight over the screen and navigate anywhere I need to go. I have ordered the recovery dvd from Sony and am awaiting that to see if it helps. This system is currently running XP Home Service Pack 2(I was told it was added and not the original that came with the computer. The computer is a Sony Vaio VGN-A290. Can someone suggest some troubleshooting for this problem or let me know if it is a driver, software or hardware problem? My next step after I receive the Recovery DVD from Sony, if that doesn't work, will be to take it in for repair, which we all know can be costly. I can provide any additional information if needed. I've been using computers since 1990, but not that good at driver, video card, hardware problems, though can follow instructions. Thanks in advance, okiegirl.

Answer:Sony Vaio Laptop Black, Dark Screen On Start Up and remains

Sounds like your LCD is bad.

Sounds like you have one of two things going on: either a bad inverter board, or the flourescent tube in the LCD is dead.

The inverter board is fairly easy to replace, and costs around $100. The flourescent tube is a much more troubling issue - generally the only option is to replace the entire LCD, and they do get expensive. Some repair shops claim to be able to replace just the flourescent tube - this can be a little less expensive. But it's hard to find a repair shop that can do that.

Answer:Dell Inspiron 15 laptop repeatably beeps on start up with black screen and does not boot

Hi Gary,
I’d suggest that you follow the steps mentioned below and check if the system switches ON.

Switch off the computer.
Disconnect the AC adapter from the system.
Remove the battery from the computer.
Press and hold down the power button for 15 seconds.
Then connect back all the peripherals and check if you are able to turn on the system.

If the system is not switching ON please connect the external monitor and check if the system is switching ON then I would suggest that you run the diagnostics on the computer by following the steps mentioned below and check if there is any issue with the hardware on your system.

Turn on or restart the computer.
Immediately at the Dell logo screen, starting tapping the <F12> key once a second until the One Time Boot menu appears (if the computer boots to Windows turn the computer off and try again).
At the One Time Boot menu, press the <Down> arrow key to highlight Diagnostics, PSA+ or Enter ePSA, then press <Enter> to begin the hardware Diagnostics.
Write down any error codes listed. Reply to us with the error codes.

Since the Dell Inspiron 15 laptop computer emits a series of beeps during start-up if the LCD cannot display errors or problems. Please let me know the number of beeps you are receiving during startup as

hi dharamc,

Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!

Have you tried checking this issue under the BIOS mode.
Power ON the computer and start hitting F2.

If the problem is visible under BIOS, then don't mind the driver as the problem might be the GPU or the LCD screen.
to isolate the issue further you can use an external monitor.

If the problem is not visible under an external monitor, then you have a problem with the GPU

Let us know your findings
Cheers!

The problem is that, I can log into GuildWars2,then the screen turns black, (monitor light turns yellow , as of my monitor is in a energy saving mode when not in used) and i cannot control my keyboard ( meaning i press the num lock + caps lock button, the lights dont respond). Then the computer fans would make a lot of noises, (max speed).

At the release of GW2, it worked fine with no issues, then started to happen if I logged into the game world, or went to the character selection screen. It stopped for a few weeks, then today it got worse. Today it would happen if i was searching the internet, and just now while playing PlanetSide2, the entire PC shut off. As I turned it back on, it was loud fan noise (max) and the PS screen was black again. I had to hard shutdown/start a few times before it went back to normal.

Help please. I have all the updated drivers for my vid card already and turned down settings.

I received the following error message when I attempted to restart my computer:

C0000218 Unknown Hard Error

When I restarted after the blue screen it went into a check disk but would not finish the scan.

I have tried to start the computer in safe mode with internet connection and after a few minutes the screen goes black. I've tried to start it using last known configuration and the screen goes black. Everything I try ~ the screen goes black.

Help!!!!

Answer:Blue screen & now won't start in safe mode, screen goes black

I'm writing from my husband's laptop because my desktop is completely dead.

We were out of town for several days and when we returned my desktop was running very slow so I attempted to restart it. It locked up, I pressed/held the power button and when it restarted it attempted to run a disk check. The disk check locked up and I had to press/hold the power button again. When it restarted I got a blue screen ~ stop: C0000218 unknown hard error.

Sometimes when I attempt to restart it I get: checking file system on C:
file system = NTFS

When I attempt to restart it in safe mode, safe mode with networking or starting in last known good configuration I get . . .

multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(2)\windows\appPatch\drvmain.sdb
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(2)\windows\system32\drivers\ . . . (various items)

Now it won't start, not even in safe mode. Everything I try ~ I just get a black screen.

** I just tried to restart AGAIN and it ran disk scan, said it had completed disk scan and would restart, the screen went black when it attempted to restart and the screen is still black and it won't restart.

What can I do to get my computer back?

Any help will be greatly appreciated!

Hi guys, Since Xmas I have had an Ideapad S206. I'm having problems with it and am not sure what is causing them.  The machine frequently crashes - I've seen the Blue Screen of Death at least once a week, sometimes several times a day. I'm never doing much with the machine - just online, and with a few programs open (word processing mainly) and iTunes. Sometimes, it crashes without me doing anything at all - I leave the room, come back 5 minutes later and tells me there has been a blue screen crash. Several times, when the blue screen comes up, it makes a terrible noise like a pneumatic drill/piledriver. I've never heard a laptop make a noise like it. Can anyone advise what the problem is? Should I contact Lenovo and try and send the machine back for a refund? (It's over its 30 day warranty.) Thanks in advance.

My Lenovo Ideapad Z570 is being a pain in the butt. Can somebody help? It kept freezing on me recently so I used OneKey Recovery on my desktop and everything seemed to run smoothly again on a clean slate. 2 weeks later, it suddenly froze again in the middle of a task and a static noise emitted from the hard drive. I forced shut down, turned it back on, and it asked me to start windows normally or try startup repair. Both options failed. I'd pick one, and just as Windows 7 would begin, a black screen would appear and you'd hear the static noise. Repeated attempts resulted in the same outcome. I also tried pressing the tiny OneKey button next to the power button to activate recovery mode but couldn't get beyond a black screen with the words "Windows loading files" (or something) at the bottom. The noise makes me think it's a hard drive failure.  I'm frustrated. I bought this laptop about 6 months ago, and it's already causing me all these issues. I can't find a recovery disc, either I lost it or it never came with one (a disc I made on my own doesn't work for some reason.) What do you think I should do? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Answer:Black screen! Static noise!

Please once try reconnecting the hard drive once. And you could please test another hdd to see if the mb has the problem or its a hdd problem.

A friend of mine asked me to look at his old XP machine because it simply will not fully startup. It does make it through the initial boot routine and the "Windows XP" splash screen appears but, shortly after that, the screen goes black. All you can see is a black screen with a white cursor in the middle of it. The system does not respond to mouse or keyboard input.

I used a Hiren's Boot CD boot disk to look around his system. He has about 40% free space left on the hard drive which seems to function correctly. I am presently running a virus scan (via the Hiren's Boot CD).

I've never seen an XP machine do this so I'm not sure what is going on. I believe he is running SP3 but I'm not certain of this because I can get it fully loaded to check.

Any help would be appreciated.

Background: A week ago on vacation, I opened my HP Pavilion dv7-2173cl (a laptop running Vista Home Premium SP2) and suddenly, green and black lines began forming across its screen. I was later told this was a pressure crack, although that is not what I'm posting about. Freaked out, that day I turned the computer off and on several times using only the power button, once foolishly interrupting a "Startup Repair" process.

Problem: When I got home I hooked up the laptop to my TV so I could see what was going on. After attempting to turn it on many times, I eventually got the BSOD with a STOP:0x0000c1f5 error. I couldn't access the Recovery Module (even to backup) or Safe Mode. Going into personally uncharted territory, I booted from a Linux System Rescue CD to delete the $TxfLog file that was apparently the cause of the problem. I no longer get the BSOD, I get a black screen (KSOD?) (sometimes w/mouse, sometimes w/o) after the "yellow bar" loading screen. I still can't get into Safe Mode but I was able to use a Vista repair CD I downloaded to (finally) backup onto an external hard drive.

What I've Done So Far: I've run chkdsk, checked the memory and hard disk from BIOS options, and run Startup repair. I did the kind of Windows backup where everything goes to one file.

I'd prefer not to start from scratch if I can avoid it. Thanks so much for any and all help guys, I appreciate it a lot.

Charlie

Hello,
I had a Dell XPS 15 notebook with GForce GT540M graphics card running windows 7 professional 64bit. When I power on the notebook, it won't kick off the Dell start up screen but instead had a loud hissing noise made by the fan and a black screen. I had to power on and off the computer for at least 10 times before the Dell start up screen kicks in but then when it starts windows, the screen turns black again this time without the fan noise. I had to power it off and on again till it goes to the normal windows "launch start up repair or start windows normally" screen and then press starts windows normally before windows can start properly. I had gone to the Dell website and update all my BIOS and drivers all over again as well as downloading Gforce latest drivers for GM540M graphics card but the situation is the same. I think it's the graphics card driver that had some conflict with the latest update of windows. Everything works fine prior to some windows update but as the windows update keep pilling on, it ended up like this. I also can't put my notebook to sleep or hibernation.

Hey all, My wife's laptop, e420, has been having issues for the last 3-4 months. It started where she would shut the laptop and it would not go to sleep, the screen would just be black. You would have to hit the power button to wake up. A new issue is that we get the dreaded blue screen. The error shows that there is a problem power management when shutting the laptop. I have tried to debug the dump file with little help and I have updated all the drivers. I have a feeling the power management drivers became corrupt on an update but not sure. Any thoughts? I have updated the bios as well. Thanks!

Hi,
I have a Lenovo Thinkpad Edge with an Intel I5 processor, 64 bit with no hardware upgrades (stock). I had accidentally stepped on the screen (fell off my lap and then crunch) which was mangled beyond repair, so I have been using it similar to a tower, with a VGA and/or HDMI connected monitor (my HDMI cable went bad, I picked up a new cable but hadn't hooked it up to the second monitor.
I started my free upgrade from Windows 7 Home Premium to 10 last night. I woke up to the black screen/mouse pointer issue which is what brought me to this thread. I tried the recommended fix:
1. Hit ctrl, type in password and enter
2. Win Key + P + Down Arrow. (Win Key + P only seems to do the same thing)
This brought up options to
1. Disconnect projector (Tried this and lost connection to the VGA even after reboot)
2. Duplicate (Screen is still black with mouse cursor, but I saw a little bit of red and blue pixels at the bottom where the task bar should be until I disconnected and re-connected the VGA, then it was back to black screen and cursor)
3. Extend (still black screen and cursor)
4. Connect Projector (still black screen and cursor)
I'm not sure what to do. I must have some OS installed, because I am able to also perform these operations from my USB Keyboard/Mouse. I'm just not sure how to get Windows back on my VGA connection (I haven't tried HDMI because I did not have it connected when I ran the update.) I thought Duplicate displays would do the trick, but apparently not. For a... Read more

Hello and thanks for reading,

I have a 2 year old HP pavilion dv6 series laptop running windows 7. Yesterday I turned it on and it started normally but when I tried to browse on Firefox it gave me the blue screen (for the first time ever) and it shut down. Fearing I had a virus I ran it in safe mode and started a scan and began transporting my pictures via Dropbox just in case it died on me. Sure enough a weird error message (couldnt figure out what program made the message pop up) popped up saying I had a bunch of urgent viruses.. I didn't click on it at all and before I couldn't think of what to do the blue screen popped up and it shut down. When I tried to restart it the HP splash sign popped up and the screen flickered black and a blinking cursor started in the upper left corner. So this is where I stand now... Black screen with blinking cursor. Set default setting in BIOS (didn't work) and F8 (safe mode) or F11 (system restore) does nothing... The black screen just stays there. Any ideas? Is it a gonner? I'm hoping to get back on and get my pictures if possible. Help please!

I am using G410 lenovo laptop. Windows 8.1I always use 'Power Button' to hibernate cos it's start and switch off much faster.I always use AC adapter and only use battery when necessary. It's was working fine until a few days ago when I press power button, and nothing is on screen, totally black and blank. Sometimes I only see the word "lenovo" then blank / black screen.1) What I did was hold the power button for a long time till it power off, then I waited for 5 mins then power on, few days ago that worked, but last night it didn't.I kept doing the same thing last night but it didn't work, I also tried just pressing the power buttton and waited and I felt it went to hibernate, cos I've done that a billion times. So, I figured it was the display problem.2) Today, I decided to plug the VGA cable to my desktop monitor and thank God, it showed my laptop screen on my desktop monitor, so I am very sure something is up with my laptop screen. What I did was to restart the laptop and thank God again, the display came out on my laptop, so then...3) I change the "what the power button will do", I've selected "Shut down" instead hoping that if it shuts down and power up my display will show.Question:Will I have to get my laptop monitor checked?Should all data in my laptop should also be backed up?cos I will need to buy a big external hard disk now.. Answer:Lenovo G410 Laptop Blank Screen Black Screen Problem

It sounds like either the LCD cable or Backlight are needing to be checked, and possibly replaced.  This is not somthing most users can easily accomplish and would require the unit be sent to a service center for diagnosis and repair.

I would advise contacting Lenovo Support via phone and determine the nearest service center that you can use, then get a quote.

Answer:Lenovo X201 laptop black screen and LCD screen doesn't detect after booting windows

This is then due to inverter from screen that has stopped working, it controls the backlight part of LCD/LED screen when it breaks it cause the backlight to turn off and wont go on so you would need to have inverter re-placed with a new one. Here is a example of how it looks like: it may look diffirent on each model but this is just an example from a T41 from lenovo.

Hello,
I have a Sony Vaio T-series laptop (model SVT13126CXS) running windows 7. As of yesterday the screen is black...it doesn't display anything.
Laptop powers on (lights are on, fan makes noise, etc.).
I was able to plug an HDMI cable from my laptop to my TV and I am able to use the laptop using my TV screen (laptop screen is still black, but displays on TV works).
And the odd twist... this is a touch screen laptop, so I am able to touch my laptop screen and it makes clicks and moves cursor on my TV. (for some reason, the track pad doesn't work while its on TV display though).
Any help would be greatly appreciated. If you can give me steps into diagnosing the problem, that'd be great!
I live in a small college town and there is only one computer repair shop and since it's a monopoly he rips people off. Charges $95 for a diagnostic (if you get it fixed, it goes towards the repair; if not, it's $95). Charged my friend $120 for macbook charger and it wasn't even an genuine Apple product!

Ever since about a month ago I have been having a problem to where my laptop, right after the the loading bar( minus the windows logo). There are screen flickers, or just very small amounts of flashing lines across the screen, barely noticeable, but that may be the new screen. I am able to boot into safe mode, and it works fine in it. I have reinstalled the graphics driver, and done a system restore, but none the less, it still doesn't work. I have searched for what seems like forever, but I still cant find it. Any ideas?

Answer:Laptop giving black screen after Windows loading screen (Vis

If the graphics driver is "buggy" or "glitchy", re-installing the same one isn't going to fix it. You need to try either the previous driver (if you've recently updated it) or check for a newer driver if you haven't recently updated it.If you want to try "rolling back" to the previous driver, right-click graphics adapter model in Device Manager and choose "Properties". Under the "Driver" tab, click "Roll back driver". (option won't be available if driver has not been updated).Alternatively, you can download the latest driver from Lenovo support. Choose the most appropriate site:UK: http://support.lenovo.com/en_GB/USA: http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/You should also check Device Manager to see if any errors or conflicts are shown for any other drivers, as it could be some other third-party driver that's to blame.
