Lenovo Y50 Screen Hinge Broken..."Not really a known issue"

Question: Lenovo Y50 Screen Hinge Broken..."Not really a known issue"

The lightly used screen hinge on my Lenovo Y50 just broke, and like many other people, I contacted Lenovo about it. I was told it was "not really a known issue" and that they wouldn't do anything because it's no longer under warranty. I informed the person that a quick search found hundreds of reports of the exact same problem, including on the Lenovo forum, but they refused to acknowledge anything. How disappointing. I will try again to get a more honest acknowledgement of the issue. If that fails, it will certainly be the last computer I buy from Lenovo. I guess that's the only recourse we have. Just buy a different product next time and hope enough people do the same so that the company eventually changes its practices.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi there - I have an Aspire V5 touchscreen - when I went to close the lid, the screen cracked and I spotted that the left hinge has come apart (risen and cracked the screen). Now the laptop wont work (touch screen is flashing, mouse doesnt work - exactly the same issue as the other posts on this forum). I see on this forum and google search that this is fairly common with Acer laptops (going back to 2010) and wondering why this wasnt fixed. Has there been a recall on this, does anyone know?  I see from a google search that HP fixed a design flaw on their laptops to stop this from happening once it was reported, several years ago (2008) (I wish I had known about this problem before I purchased). If you google that you'll get the information. I've only had my laptop a couple of years. I take excellent care of my laptops, and never had this issue. (I dont travel with it, and dont close the lid often - it sits stationary on my desk and is only 2 years old).   I've sent emails out to my friends working in technology this afternoon - and so far no one has ever had this issue although no one has Acer.  Its a huge inconvenience as I use this laptop for work.  So I'm just waiting to hear back from Acer.Any suggestions on getting this fixed or replaced asap?

Hi guys! I'm writing here to get some advice for a bad situation I am having with my Lenovo. It is quite 3 years old, and a few days ago a very bad problem started: in some situations, the screen starts to flicker, everything that was showing is blocked (but for example it there is a video running I can still hear it) and then it fades slowly until becoming completely white. If I press in a random point (not always the same) on the screen or on the edges of the laptop, the screen turns back how it was, and I need to press for a bit to maintain the screen how it should be. The problem could come again if for example caused by some vibrations on the table or by ajusting the incline of the screen. My idea is that the LCD is starting to "detach" (cannot come up with a different word), so sooner or later I will not be able to solve temporarily the problem by only pressing on the screen and that I will have to send it to technical support. I cannot send it right now because i need it for work. Can someone tell me if the problem is this, and eventually how much could cost to repair it?If some more info are needed to understand better, please ask!  Thank you!

I bought the laptop in April 2016. Started having issues closing the laptop (made grating noise and felt like something inside was crunching) and screen around the hinge sortof came off around March 2017. Was in middle of submitting my PhD thesis so couldn't take it to repair rightaway. A week later, the plastic part outside the hinge broke off and hinge completely came off. Took it to JB HI-Fi on 14th April 2017 and they sent pictures to Lenovo. There are no signs of external damage, laptop has been used and taken care of properly and Lenovo refuses to cover it under warranty. Absolutely unacapptable!! Called Lenovo customer support on 5th May, technician asked for addtional photos of the hinge from all angles to have another assessment. Currently awaiting a call back from that assessment. Looked at other blogs and saw other people having same issues with Lenovo IDeapad 100. Will be reporting the issue to consumer protection affairs as clearly not an issue associated with mishandling or external damage. So frustrating that less than a year and have to deal with this.

1. July 2014 we bought this laptop. Now the hinge is broken fron the undercover on the right side.  Ther is nothing to on the outside of falling or bumping (because this didn't happen). We sent the laptop to the service department in the Netherlands. It seem Medion is the repair centre for Lenovo. We got a reply from Medion that there was a damage at the cover which happened due to the user. They also sayed that the due to mecanical issues (cables where put in the wrong way) the product was damaged. They send pictures with it. The only thing we could see is that the under an upper cover where devided due to the hing that was broken from the undercover.Medion says now there is no waranty, althought we kwon we didn't anything else then using the laptop where it is made for. We have to pay ? 132 ,- to repair the damage or pay ? 50,- to get our laptop unrepaired back. This is not the service we are used to get from Lenovo. How must we handle?

Answer:Hinge broken from undercover Lenovo M30-70

We had the laptop to be repaired. According to to repair document the USB-port also was defect. We are sure that was no issue when the laptop was sent to them. The also reinstalled the software and made a BIOS-update without our permission. If this is the way Medion (Lenovo) treads there clients, I think many clients woudn't consider buying a Lenovo again. A very dissapointed Lenovo owner.

Sorry if this is the wrong place for this but: I had a family member buy me a Lenovo Yoga sometime ago through the Lenovo International website. I had the laptop for sometime and then had to send it off for repairs. When it came back, they had "replaced a faulty hinge" but had rather made a problem where there was none before! (the hinge was fine), upon trying to "convert" my Yoga this fault caused by the repair team resulted in my frame cracking. I sent the laptop off for repairs no problem but was then told It couldn't be repaired so I'd be given an exchange code, when I told them the laptop had been purchased online they told me to contact the Lenovo team by email and see what they say. Since then, after previously being rejected, I once again explained the problem had been caused by Lenovo themselves. Upon this the repair team decided that when my laptop reaches me, I am to send it off for repairs once again. I am in desperate need of my laptop and its been months since it has been broken, I had to get through my university exams with a half broken laptop and have now been without in a time where I desperately require it.  I don;t understand why all the mixed messages and why they;re taking so long in their attempts to replace it when they could hvae quite easily replaced it, leaving me, a paying customer pleased with their service.  TLR: Laptops been sent for repairs for so long now after a fault caused by Lenovo repair team. Dear Lenovo team,  Please help me out here. I have Lenovo G40-80 laptop which I had bought roughly an year ago. I had given it for maintainence and cleaning at a lenovo centre. Now the status of this laptop is its screws have started getting loose and the hinge on the right side of screen has come out. I checked it on lenovo international and it is a much more common problem than anticipated. Apparently, there is some issue with design. Please help me here. The laptop is breaking apart and even though it is under warranty, I have been told it is not covered. Please understand that it is not my fault, but according to lenovo's international forum a design fault. Urgently need help!!!

Welcome to the Lenovo Community !

Sorry to hear of your problem.  Unfortunately I am not familiar with the warranty in your country.  I would suggest you contact Lenovo Support to discussion the repair, the cost and any possible warranty coverage you may have.  In the event the laptop is no longer under warranty you might seek out a local computer repair center to see if they will do the repair for you.

Hi! I bought U330 touch in 2013 November from Sweden and in october 2014 i had major issues with it. It was at warranty repairs  2 times before they found the problem. But now only 3 months after I got it back from Lenovo the left hinge broke. The plastic whats holding the screws is broken. It's probably their mistake for screwing the hing too tight because it's not moving very easily. My warranty is over but how big is the chance that they will fix it with out any costs for me? Because I'm really pissed off with the problems i have had thanks to it not working properly and now this happend. The computer has never dropped and taken care perfectly.

Warranty is 2 years in the EU, and don't let them tell you otherwise. It's easy to find the laws if you Google it.

I had bought ideapad z580 lenovo laptop nearly about 2.2 years ago with warranty of 3 years from Kannur- Kerala. Recently I got a problem with the laptop's right hinge. The lid couldn't close completely because of some internal design issues and caused damage with the lower case. I called the customer care but they told to get help from the nearby lenovo authorised centers. I tried to get help from there but they are trying to charge me (about Rs. 5000)saying that it is covered under damage and cannot be repaired free of cost. Its true. But as the damage is not caused by my side, its the fault of the design. So, lenovo should fix my issues free of cost as my 3 years warranty is still valid. I am a software engineer and I deal with laptops with atmost care. Could anyone please help me with this?

I bought a Lenovo Ideapad U530 at BestBuy in Sunnyvale CA, USA about a year ago.  The right side hinge broke about 2 months ago. I see this as a common problem in these forums. WHen I call Lenovo support they are not able to help & claim that hinge is out of stock & they are no longer repairing these. I need a solution. I feel cheated ; I spent $1000 on a laptop & I cant use it ot get it repaired now.  Sunder

Answer:Lenovo u530 right side hinge broken

If the touchscreen isn't broken and it's only the plastic attached to the hinge you can carefully drill through the top cover and put a thin bolt or screw.

The plastic didn't fit back on so I trimmed it.  It'll void the warranty, but what good is a warranty if no one will honor it?

Hi - new to the forum but I see others have had this problem.  The laptop has suddenly developed this fault (left hand side of the screen/hinge coming away).  We  have had the laptop just over two years (John Lewis purchase so we are over the warranty perioid).  I am trying to find out if it can be repaired and who I should take it or send it to. Have approached local computer company (independent) and a company at this website http://www.lenovorepairer.co.uk/ to see if either can do it and how much it would cost.  Has anyone asked Lenovo directly to do repair and can it be done? There seems to be a general fault which others have experienced and commented on - our laptop has been used very carefully so really disappointed with this fault.  I doubt I would get any joy from complaining to Lenovo but is it worth a try?Any comments and experiences welcome.

Dear Lenovo Team, I have the same hinge problem with a lot of users already reported here. I have purchased my Lenovo u330 touch notebook in 2014 July in Turkey and it's still under warranty. I've never dropper or caused any other physical damage on the notebook. The left hinge was broken off during the normal usage (by opening the lid). Last week i've sent the notebook to the Lenovo Service Center here in Istanbul, Turkey but they are requesting 300$ for recover, even it's under  the regular warranty. According to the Service Center, it's a user fault. Please help me to understand how it can be a user fault? I though notebooks are designed for mobile usage and they have lids for opening and closing up. If opening a lid is a user fault then i'd expect to see "Use with only open lid, do not touch the lid never ever!" warning in the user manual. My warranty will be expired in a month and i'm still hoping some help on this. Many thanks.

Hi All,I can see a few people have been having similar issues to me which is one of the hinges breaking from the magnesium casing on my W500.  Like others that I've seen on the forum, there is no damage to the laptop (i.e. it hasn't been dropped, abused, scratched, etc...).  It is a well used laptop and has done a lot of travel as I use it on-site with customers pretty much on a daily basis, so it does get opened and closed a lot. I decided to lodge the issue under warranty and  was told that this would have to be lodged under my ThinkPad Protection (TPP) and NOT under warranty.  The difference being that the TPP is pick-up and deliver with no ETA.  I didn't feel this was right as the issue occurred under fair use, and not abuse of the laptop. After discussing with Support, they suggested the best way forward was the Customer Complaints area.  After being given the run-around and lied to a number of times with regards to callbacks, I finally got an answer as to what is not covered under warranty (see below). What this Warranty Does not CoverThis warranty does not cover the following:    uninterrupted or error-free operation of a product    loss of, or damage to, your data by a product    any software programs, whether provided with the product or installed subsequentyly    failure or damage resulting from misuse, abuse, accident, modification, unsuitable physical or operat... Answer:Lenovo Refusing Warranty on W500 Broken Hinge

I had a broken hinge on my W500, and took it in to the local Lenovo service depot on the very last day of the 3 year warranty. The person who accepted the computer told me that a broken hinge can be caused by either failure of the hinge casting, or impact to the computer.  The former would be covered by warranty, the latter not.  They told me that they would have to wait until they disassembled the display panel to determine if the damage had been caused by impact. Several days later, I got a phone call advising me that there was no evidence of impact damage, and the hinge had been replaced free of charge.  The display panel and the front and rear display panel bezels were also replaced free of charge, because they had very slight damage as a result of the fracture of the hinge. So, all I can guess, in your case, is that the service facility looked at the machine and came to the conclusion that the damage to the hinge was as a result of impact, not a faulty casting. Michael

I've noticed a few posts on this issue (lenovo Y50-70 touch screen hinge breaking).  I bought my laptop via Amazon in July 2015 so it should still be under warranty (even though the tech support website says it is not....it also thinks that the warranty started in January 2015).  I, however, have had zero success with contacting technical support for help (I talked to a representative on the phone; she couldn't help me but said I would be called withing 48 hours.  It has now been 168 hours and I've received no phone call; I also submitted a request via the web 72 hours ago and have received nothing.  And I can't get anywhere with the online "contact us" since it won't recognize the serial number of my machine).  Anyone have a phone number or other suggestions?  At this point, I'm very frustratred with (a) the product and (b) the technical support from Lenovo.

We purchased this laptop Jan. 2015.  It is currently almost out of warranty. We purchased online from Costco. I called Costco Concierge services and they connected me with Dell Warranty Dept.  I explained the issue of the screw popping out and the hinge now being broken. Of course the first thing they asked was if it has ever been dropped. NO! IT HAS NEVER BEEN DROPPED! We cannot open the screen more than a 90 degree angle. In some cases when we do, the computer shuts itself down and reboots.  This is obviously a defect in the hardware and workmanship and design of this laptop. As I just spoke with Dell and they are sending me a box to ship the laptop back in. It will take 7-10 business days to fix.  This is a work computer so of course we cannot be without a computer for that long. We will have to buy another computer to use during this time and then give to another employee once the broken one is fixed. For now, they have not said we need to pay anything to fix it as it is still under its one year warranty. But I will let you know if something else occurs. I am glad this forum is here because I would never have known others have had this problem.  Dell really should recall this product or at least give people new computers when they call with this issue. This is such a hassle.  I will post back on here what the resolution outcome is.  Also, they let me know that if it happens again once it is fixed, it will no longer be under warranty. We ... Also similar case as mine. I am writing a post currently to document it. I suggest you make a complaint at the BBB website as I have already. But they are very stubborn and refuse to see this damage as a manufacturing defect and insist on calling you a liar by saying it is accidental damage.

Initially it was very little and I was able to open and close the laptop. But now the right hinge completely broke and the left hinge is getting looser. I have two issues. The first is that my battery stopped charging right after by warranty exprired causing me to be unable to use my laptop unless it is plugged in. The second is that the left hinge is broken, causing my bottom case to come apart. This has also caused an issue with my fan (from a broken piece interfearing?) which causes my laptop to overheat.  This is unacceptable. Left hinge broke on my Acer laptop here on March 13, 2017, and when I tried to close my laptop not realizing the plastic had split it cracked my touch screen.  I called Acer to see if this issue had been addressed as a "known issue" that they would repair but it isn't.  I also asked if the newer laptops have addressed this problem and I could purchase one without worrying about it, but they would not comment on that and just said anything outside of 3 years isn't covered. A quick Google search has turned up this issue as fairly common and occuring anywhere from 6 months and beyond of ownership.  Can anyone tell me if the newer laptops they produce have this issue?  I can't see myself justifying buying a similar product with the exact same issue that Acer refuses to address when you have other options for which the hardware seems much more stable and the cost comparable.  Does anyone have any insight to this beyond what I've experienced?

Answer:Acer laptop 3.5 years old broken left hinge issue

>>>A quick Google search has turned up this issue as fairly common and occuring anywhere from 6 months and beyond of ownership. >>> Not common. But does happen to most brands in my experience. Especially when one is in the habit of regularly and often opening and closing the lid on stepping away from the machine. The other vulnerability from this habit are the conductor trace lines on the video ribbon cable which threads tightly thru the hinge area. The hinge on my computer broke last night all of a sudden. Nothing has happened to the computer; I've never dropped it, nothing has hit it, nothing has happened that should cause it to break. When it broke, the screen fell forward and it cracked the screen. I have looked everywhere on this website for someone to contact about how to get it fixed but all I can find is a link to FedEx to begin a service order. Has this ever happened to anyone else and does anyone know how much it would be to get it fixed? Is it worth it to ship it to Lenovo or would it be better to take it to a local repair person? Unfortunately the warrenty ended about six months ago.

Hi everyone one, I am looking for advice/help. I bought this laptop (m6-n010dx) less than 2 years ago. I am so careful with my belongings, and this computer hasbeen babied. The left hinge blew out and now there is a big crack in the glass all around the hinge! I had to disable my touch screen because it is so messed up.  I asked my local repair guy and he said it is a very common issue, but the charge would be horrifying to repair. I am so disgruntled. I love HP, and have always bought their products. I am a bit of a brand snob!  Is there anything I can do?  Thank you all in advance.

Hello, I have a 2013-2014 , can't remember the exact year without going and pulling the receipt. However, over the last year I have been having a bunch of issues with the hinge holding the screen to the computer. I took it to a shop and when they took it apart they said the hinge is busted inside and I would need to replace the screen. I am wondering if I can just buy a hinge and replace that??  Thank you!

Hi I was wondering how I can get my right screen hinge fixed? I can't close the lid without the borders of the screen becoming more detached than it already is. I'm out of warranty and live in Sydney, I was wondering what are my options? The left part is fine and I can clearly see the connectors running through  (right at the bottom of screen frame)but for my left its broken on one side. So replacing just the screen won't fix the problem.Thanks. EDIT: Just called Lenovo support, they told me it would cost around $450 to get it fixed lol, which is 90% of how much I bought this unit for. Are there any other alternatives?

Hi, I am hoping for assistance with repairing or replacing the screen hinge on the right side of my laptop.  When I open the screen I can see the actual laptop body splitting.  Looking inside the screw hole I can see broken black plastic and and hear something moving inside when opening/closing. The computer is only about 15 mo old, so it is out of warranty, but since it's my secondary laptop I would have expected something as basic as the hinge to last a lot longer than this!   Does anyone know if HP is able to send me a free replacement part that I can use to fix it myself? Thanks in advance,Matt

Hi,I have a beloved 8 years-old Lenovo T500 which I cherish dearly(and also cannot afford at the moment to replace with a new laptop). Through wear-and-tear over the years the Screen's bottom left hinge has started to give way - the actual metal screw hole, inside the plastic screen frame cover has broken off and as a result the entire screen is touchy-loose and the plastic frame across that side is widely opened and braking off. I'm looking for a way to improvise a permanent fix from the outside -Where the laptop screen can be moved to change it's angle of view (and also closed of course).I want to achieve this without opening the plastic frame cover, as I've already done that a few times and since the entire thing is delicate I already caused further damage on the opposite side where the plastic is weak. I tried using the strongest duck-tape I could find in order to try and hold that corner together (a black 'demolition tape'). It didn't hold through.I've also tried to super-glue the duck tape to that corner with a tight snug. It also got loose due to the faulty mechanism's exerted pressure :-( Below are links to a couple of photos are in order to try and illustrate the problem(I apologize for the poor quality due to my old Nokia C2 3-Megapixels mobile phone camera):  (https://goo.gl/photos/E69JJdC57fjVWSLF6) (https://goo.gl/photos/xypQb2WTi3s8AQoY8)&... Answer:A desperate cry for help - broken T500 Screen hinge

Honestly, I don't think there's a fix from the outside only. My guess is that the magnesium frame inside the LCD assembly broke (the lower left corner). Unfortunately this is something very common in the T/W500 series.

The only fix I see is replacing the mg frame, for which you need to remove the whole LCD assembly.

The screen hinge on the left side broke on Monday, and when I try to close the screen, it appears that it is bending the screen frame.  So I'm going to leave it open temporarily, for fear of ruining the screen.  Could someone at HP please be in touch with me about the options for dealing with this?  Otherwise the computer is fully functional, except that it is no longer portable, since I can't close the screen. Thanks!

Hello,I bought this laptop off of acerrecertified and have been using for school for the past 2 months. What I just noticed after i pulled it out of my bag,First, the lower plastic frame is cracking and falling apart, and second the aluminum screen frame has separated. I tried to push the screen back together but it wouldn't clip back on. What should i do? is this product under warranty? I'm afraid if i send it in to get repaired, it will just break again because of poor engineering, and i have read this problem is common across acer's laptops.

I had purchased this laptop, HP Envy M6-1090ee in August 2012. Soon after my warranty expired, the left hinge of the laptop started cracked and the screen frame too were affected because of this. Since I had to move between countries for short periods, I couldn't do anything about it. Until June 2014, when I contacted the HP service centre. After quite a few discussions regarding this issue, they decide to repair it for me. The repair was done and the machine didn't have any issue for a year. After which the same issue started cropping up. I have a HP case ID no. for the last service, that was given for the last repair. Any assistance regarding this will be highly appreciated and of a great help. Thank youAlex Robert

I purchased a HP Pavillion G7-2246NR Laptop with a 17.3 inch screen from Office Depot on Nov. 26, 2012.

The computer worked great until about a month ago when the left hinge seemed to be coming loose.  All I use this computer for is to surf the net at night while we watch TV so it rarely gets used.

Now the hinge has completely came out of the case and it has apparently  caused damage to the power button.  The computer will not power up at all.

I certainly believe this computer that I rarely use should have lasted more than a year and a half.  Is there a recall or some sort of free repair for these clearly defective units?

Please contact me for a solution,

Answer:Broken Left hinge on HP Pavillion G7-2246NR 17.3 screen

Hello @SFKervin , Welcome to the HP Forums! I understand the hinge has broken on your notebook and it no longer turns on. It's possible that the chassis has separated preventing the power button from making contact with the power button board below. The simplest solution would be to replace the hinge. You can find detailed instructions on how to replace the hinge here: HP Pavilion g7 Notebook PC Maintenance and Service Guide on page 57. You can order a replacement display hinge kit by searching the part number 682746-001 and the display hinge covers with part number 682747-001 (if needed) online from many retailers like Amazon, eBay, or the HP Part Surfer web store. Regarding any recalls you can see a list of active recalls for HP on the following website: Replacement programs and product recalls. Hopefully this helps!

The hinges on my cousin's HP Pavilion ZV 6000 laptop have been broken and cracked for awhile. (One is broken, the other is cracked.) A few minutes ago he powered on the laptop only to find that the screen is completely black.

We're figuring that there must be a connection between the damaged hinges and the black screen.

We would greatly appreciate hearing from anyone who has an idea as to exactly what the problem is and how to go about fixing it.

Thank you.

In 2012 my mother and I both purchased the HP Pavillion g7 17.3 in screen laptops at different times. She purchased hers from Office Depot and I purchased mine from Walmart. About 2 months ago her laptop stopped closing properly and we noticed that the left hinge had dislodged from its intended position. A few weeks later her screen started to go out as well. We replaced the top cover and fixed the hinge but the screen is still unresponsive.  Two days ago, I noticed that my laptop started having the same problem and I find it very odd that both computers purchased from different locations and same "Pavillion g7" have the same casing malfunction. I have done a lot of research on this issue and there have been quite a few people with the same issue with their computers. Why has there not been a recall on this issue or at least HP should offer customers replacement parts for the known problem. I am very disappointed because I have always had HP laptops and printers but if the quality of these products are like this now, I may have to switch to a different brand. I hope someone can figure out what is going on and help with this situation.  Thanks

For two years, I had been a proud user of my big screen laptop until the day I opened the lid and the plastic behind the left hinge crumbled like a cookie. I was totally shocked. I hadn't hit my laptop against anything nor had I dropped it, why, I hadn't even carried it around like most people do. The bloody hinge broke just like that. I was in for more shock and disappointment when the screen casing came apart when I tried to close the lid. Before I knew it, the damage had been done. I realized that I could not use my laptop like I normally do anymore. Since then, I have left the lid open always lest it break the screen completely. On the Forum, I learned that this is a design issue and many more users have suffered broken hinges and casings. If that's the case, why is HP not recalling faulty models? I have been an ardent fan of HP for twenty years. (Talking of fans, ever since the hinge broke and the casing came apart, I have been getting error messages about the cooling fan not functioning properly, that I need to shut down my PC). My first computer was a HP Pavilion desktop and so was my first printer. A few years ago, I even designed a logo for HP Shadow Labs, but it was not selected as a prospective design. That's another story. Now, how am I going to take my laptop to the city which is 100 miles away when I cannot safely close the lid even? I am out of warranty, so I will have to pay for replacements and service. Why should I pay for something... Read more

It is bad enough that Dell makes a product with a defect affecting many of their unuts (bad hinge design/manufacture), but then makes a statement that part is specifically not covered under any of their warranties.

Hi there, I have been reading many posts on this forum, and apparently I am not the only one with this problem: My HP Envy 6-1010sa left hinge has decided to go askew and it's making the left bottom edge of my screen to spit, as I open/close the screen. I have not read about any solutionsfrom HP on my fellow-commentators, so I'm not sure what to do. As everyone else, my warranty has just expired, the laptop is only approx. 1.5 years old. The laptop works totally fine, and the screen is fine too and normally I am really happy with this laptop! But I am really worried now, I don't want the screen to get damaged even more! Can anyone, from HP please, tell me how to fix this? The hinge is not broken I think, it just seems out of position and I cant get it back in position and it's pulling the screen apart. I'm based in Amsterdam, is there a HP repair department in Amsterdam where I can go to? It seems like such an easy thing to repair, I just want a professional to look at it and I can't afford a whole new screen/whole new laptop! Many thanks for you help in advance! I currently have the Lenovo y50-70 touch and I am having major issues with how the hinge system was designed as it was just fixed 2 months ago and is now having the same issue (see case here). I am wondering if the y70-70 has the same design flaw or if it was fixed. Does anybody know? I love this laptop except for that fact that I have to keep sending it in to be fixed because of the same issue.

Answer:Does the lenovo y70-70 have the hinge issue?

I know it has been few months since the OP posted a question, but I am also wondering if Y70 (Touch) in my case has the hinge problem. I've had mine for almost a year now; mfg date is end of November 2014; and there is slight popping coming from left hinge, but I think it did that practically from day one, since first thing I did was swapping of HDD with SSD and thought it's just something to do with unoptimally rescrewing of bottom. Otherwise so far so good. There are no signs of anything flexing or coming appart. Slight popping (metal back slightly touching plastic) is annoying, but it think it cannot cause problems, not even in long run. There are also no visible differences between spacing on right and left side. I use laptop daily and in average I open/close lid 5-10 times. So I really hope Y70 is less prone to hinge problem than Y50. Also, I haven't found a single topic on Y70-70 hinge breaking. It does pop a bit, but I haven't even considered it as potencial problem untill I saw the other thread in regards to Y50 hinge coming appart... Anyone else's experience?

Hey, everyone I have a Lenovo y560 that I purchased in 2010 and I've had to get Lenovo to repair the same hinge issue on three separate occasions,  also two of the three times that a technichan replaced the hinge they ended up damaging my computer.  The hinge issue that I had was the left hinge always seems to become loose, because of a design flaw. The exact problem that I've had is explained more in depth here : http://forum.notebookreview.com/ideapad-essential/543887-y560-hinge-issue-explained.html Anyway, my hinge is acting up again and I feel that it is unfair to me to have to pay to get this hinge fixed again because Lenovo can not provide me with a permanent fix for my problem. My case number is : WN373530 Are my options just to stop dealing with Lenovo and go with another computer manufacterer that can provide quality products and provide permenant solutions? I wanted to know if anyone could provide me with some insight or suggestions as to what I should do next.   Thanks,  -Vlad

Also, I wanted to know if anyone could provide me with contact information to Lenovo's complaint department as I have been fed up with thier poor customer service, poor quality products and horrible repairs. I will not recommend Lenovo to anyone and make sure to spread the word about their poor products and customer service. -Vlad

Okay, the refreshed Y50 is out with 960m and an IPS display. But the older model had some other very disturbing design flaws as the hinge and the fan. Now, can anyone confirm whether those issues have been addressed in the new model or are they still remin and make this otherwise grand laptop a bad choice?

Dear Lenovo-team, I have an issue with my Yoga 720-13IKB (Type 81C3) Laptop.First, is it normal that the right hinge is only on the right connected to the frame? And second, the little black plastic square left to the left hinge and right to the right hing is moveable almost loose. Is that correct? Best,SF

Everytime i open my laptop it made a cracking noise on the right side. The plastic piece in the middle broke off and i cant put it back on. I did some googling and found that this is a freaking common problem with Lenovo. I will be talking to my lawyer asap to file a law suit because this is a manufacturer defect. Not only did Lenovo service not help, I had to escale the case 3 times because the first 2 times were escalated ''wrong'' by their employees. In the mean time i need my laptop for College and it doesnt feel freakin good to open up a cracking laptop everytime im in class with a missing middle cover. I checked every video but none are clear and need help to fix this issue.

The right hinge broke on my ENVY m6. Now the left one is about to go. The waranty is up and I have noticed that this is a common problem with this product. I should hope that there has been a recall on this. HP should at least repair the issue free of charge (waranty or no waranty). I take great care of my things and my computer is no exception. Please give me advice on this one. I am extremely disappointed at this point.

The right side hinge of my z580 is giving issues. The laptop lid does not close properly. The lenovo support denied warranty saying that my ADP is over. However I do not understand how is this related to ADP. Seeing the huge number of complaints it is definitely a manufacturing defect. My bottom case was replaced once already during ADP.Please suggest how to take this further. I have been recommending lenovo to everyone, but I dont think I will do that

Hi, I have bought a U41 series. It gave me the problem as U410 well having the hinge giving me cracking sign if the lid was closed fully and to be open up again. The problem came in JUST AFTER the warranty and the operator also told me that is will not be cover under warranty. I mean, it is a manufacturing defect, where I have never dropped my laptop before, why would it not be cover under warranty? And should all Lenovo user expect ALL Lenovo products to only function as much time as the warranty (1 year)? I am very disappointed with Lenovo products, the way you resolve my inquiry and not taking any responsibility towards the manufacturing defects. For your reference of U410 defects please refer to this link below:https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/Lenovo-U-and-S-Series-Notebooks/Re-Lenovo-Ideapad-U410-and-U410-Touch-b... Also, the issue was not resolved as no satisfactory answer has been given to the thread shown.

Hi,I have a laptop Lenovo Y40-70 and some odd plastic circles came out from it other day (it was in the desk, under the laptop). Then I realized that it started to get hard to open and close the screen.  I removed the plastic cover that is in the edge of the lcd screen to take a look in what could be wrong. And here are some pictures: Left hinge (revit broken):   Rigth hinge (revit without problem):   Plastic Circles (revit heads):That odd plastic circles that came out are like a plastic rivet and it are used to hold a metalic plate that connects the lcd structure to the hinge of the screen. In the absence of it the plate is bending and will brake very soon if it continues like that.I am leaving the screen open for now until I found a way to fix it. I put some oil in the hinge for now, but it didn't give me any softness to open and close the screen. Any one have suggestions how to fix it?

Lenovo India is suggesting me to replace the defective left hinge along with the entire body of my laptop amounting to Rs 6000 approx. Since adp is not covered here in India for me coz I got mine from the states. My question here is how has lenovo classified this case under accidental damage even after so many users have complained about this issue. It is clearly a build defect and should be covered under base warranty.please provide a viable reason for me to pay such a hefty amount after spending a fortune on my machine and which clearly shows the shortcomings in the building of this laptop.I got this laptop in December 2015Kindly provide the solution at the earliestRegards,Abhishek

I have been having a problem with my Y40-70 which has been getting worse.  The hinge on the left side of the screen lid has been coming undone.  I can click it pack into place while it is closed, but the moment I move the screen, it snaps out of shape again.  This is also affecting the screen itself, as the plastic pieces have begun to separate due to the warping.  I have some photos to illustrate the issue: http://i1024.photobucket.com/albums/y305/allismc99/Lenovo_Screenproblem_01_normalhinge_zpsqis3lzu9.j... http://i1024.photobucket.com/albums/y305/allismc99/Lenovo_Screenproblem_02_brokenhingesideview1_zpsq... http://i1024.photobucket.com/albums/y305/allismc99/Lenovo_Screenproblem_03_brokenhingesideview2_zpsh... http://i1024.photobucket.com/albums/y305/allismc99/Lenovo_Screenproblem_04_brokenhingesideview3_zpsu... http://i1024.photobucket.com/albums/y305/allismc99/Lenovo_Screenproblem_05_brokenhingeangleview_zpsk... http://i1024.photobucket.com/albums/y305/allismc99/Lenovo_Screenproblem_06_brokenhingebottomview_zps... http://i1024.photobucket.com/albums/y305/allismc99/Lenovo_Screenproblem_07_brokenhingezoombackview_z... Hopefully these pictures will help demonstrate the issue.  The problem has been getting worse with repeated wear.  What is the best solution to fix this?  Is it something I can do myself?  Thank you for any help and advice offered. EDIT:  Photolinks didn't work, but I t... Answer:Hinge on Lenovo y40-70 screen coming undone

The hinge sadly is held on only by glue (poor design), which appears to be coming undone.    This seems to be a common issue on that model as there are many on the web facing the same problem, so there are many videos of how to open the computer, and gain accesss to the hinge so you can re-glue the hinge   https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kX7sewRnY14

Hi, I purchased a Envy m6 in 2013 (now out of warranty).  Approximately 1 year ago I noticed the plastic hinges  would make a slight noise when opening the screen to 90degrees. I soon noticed the right plastic hinge was cracked and when open the black screen surround would be separating from the silver outside cover. After time it had progessed to separating the screen approximately 1-2cm. I have never dropped or damaged this laptop, and has had very minimal use over the last 3 years. I used to be able to click the screen back together when closing the lid quite easily. As of today it is very difficult to push the screen back together when closed. I have seen many posts on the internet about this problem. Does hp fix this problem? This laptop doesnt even leave the computer desk. Hardly gets used, maybe a handful of times a month for no more than 1hour at a time.

The left hinge and the plastic began to separate from eachother, and now its so bad that the fan has apparantly stopped working. Will HP fix this problem? If not, I will definitely be looking at a mac or something that wont break just from average use of a laptop.

After only 5 months after i bought my y470 the left  hinge was loosed. i checked and found out that the  4 screws to attached the hinged were detached because the anchor slots were sheared off. I was wondering how i could have happened inside . My unit has not experienced any fall. i percieve that this was a factory defect of   unchecked loose screws and over tine upon the action of opening and closing , the screws slots gave way. has any body experienced the same problem?? Now i have to replace the whole undercasing because the screw slots are attached to it.. or a wild idea is just to glue the whole anchor assemble of the hinge to the bottom casing by epoxy.. DO YOU HAVE A BETTER IDEA??  please advise if any. thanks

Answer:y470 Lenovo - defective anchorage for screen hinge

The better option would be to use glue to re attach them. However that might void warranty.

Very frustrated with this...I opened the laptop gently as I would always do  and the hinge on the left side of the laptop just snapped and popped out of the plastic monitor frame.  The design of the hinges are just terrible and i can now see how they work because the case has been damaged just from opening and closing the laptop.  I can now see inside the whole left side of the case.  To top it off I have already invested considerable time into upgrading the OS to Windows 10 and customizing and installing software on this laptop. I cannot close my laptop entirely since the screen closes on an incorrect angle. Since I am out of warranty, is there any way to fix this problem? After reading several posts, it seems to be a common problem with the envy models.

First I sent my laptop Ideapad Y530 to depot in Nov 26, 2011 due to hinge issue and laptop continuously booting; as part of warranty. Laptop was sent back to me on Dec 15th without the hinge issue fixed, and the warranty team refused to cover in warranty. Also, desktop image started to flicker and distort frequently after i received it from depot. Had to shell out $100 to fix the hinge issue and i specifically insisted to the tech support again to fix the destop image distortion. Sent the laptop again to the depot for the 2nd time on Dec 19th. Got back the laptop on Jan 4th, 2012 - hinge was replaced, but the desktop image distortion issue is still unresolved. Had to be on hold with technical support for 1-1/2 hours and am sending the laptop again back to the depot tomorrow for the 3rd time now. I am sick of the customer service and will never in the future buy a Lenovo product nor recommend Lenovo to any one. Can any of the moderators please check this youtube video of my laptop flickering issue and pinpoint the cause. I appreciate any suggestions. Thanks http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=INMBlb43RB4&feature=mfu_in_order&list=UL
