I have just sent a thinkpad back for repair for the first time in over 20 years of owning Thinkpad. I have had 8 thinkpad series laptops in my time as well as a few desktops and now lenovo phones. I am absolutely horrified with the diabolical Thinkpad support. This is meant to be business level support. I feel like I am phoning up Curry's. Laptop sent back with hard disk in it and I am being told now that it "turned up without a hard disk in it". Now undercurrent of me lying. Original problem had not been assessed and I still don't have my laptop back after 3 weeks. Customer service agents just tell you anything they want to get you off the phone. I suppose all things come to an end but my loyalty to the Thinkpad brand is probably over now. I am sure I am not the first. Has anyone else come across this?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

Oh, yes. I'm going through something similar over the last few weeks. Here is my thread on it.Been updating it every week. All I ever get is blown off no matter who I talk to. Good luck getting your situation resolved. I'm guessing it was sent to their depot in Tennessee?

Does the Thinkpad T420 running windows 7 Home Premium support the windows 10 upgrade? Also, my machine is very slow to start (3- 4 minutes). Will the upgrade to windows 10 help this issue?

The T420 is not supported by Lenovo for Win 10. That doesn't mean that it would not mostly work, but it does mean that you will certainly have some 'adventures, along the way, and may find that some things just don't work with Win 10 - whether those things are important few you will depend very much on how you use your T 420.

Hi, I bought Z580 Ideapad on 23rd Feb 2013, and from the very beginning it had a faulty motherboard (kept restarting every 5 minutes). I had contacted the Lenovo Support Helpline and had registered a case, and it was transferred to the Service Centre at Suva Infotech (Khetra Das Lane, Kolkata). The technician had visited my home on 2nd March and took my laptop with him for further checks. A couple of days hence I was informed that the motherboard is faulty and needs to be replaced. They gave me an ETA of 2-3 days. Now it has been almost 10 days that the laptop is lying with them and every time I am calling them I am getting a reply that the part has not arrived from Lenovo due to a snag in their portal. Is this the way Lenovo handles their Cases? What is the SLA for fixing this? Lenovo should ideally be replacing my laptop as it had a faulty motherboard from the time I had bought it. HIGHLY DISGUSTING !!!

So I have had issues with multiple wifi cards and Win 7 32 bit. The only ones I've gotten to work are laptop wifi cards, and have had some show stopping issues with certain Dell wifi chipsets. I know that a large number of wifi manufacturers use ralink chipsets which have many known issues with Win 7. I've had an old Linksys USB 54G that has worked up to Vista, then started giving me problems starting with Vista. They eventually sorted out the driver issues, but it's a big no go with Win 7, period.

I'm in the market for a new card, but I'm very reluctant to purchase anything until I have this answered. A good solid wifi PCI card (or USB, but PCI preferred) that has ROCK SOLID driver support in Win 7. Is there an HCL for Win 7 somewhere that I'm missing? I'm not seeing any wifi cards with the Win 7 logo just yet.

I purchased an Ideabook U410 laptop ?manufacturer refurbished with Lenovo warranty? in April 2013.  Six months later it stopped working.  The computer will not load Windows 7 (it sits at the Windows 7 start up screen), start up repair doesn't work, starting in "last known good configuration" doesn't work, it will not start in safe mode, etc.The computer won?t boot off the ?Factory Default Recovery Disks.? Seems clearly to be a hard drive problem.The worst part however is the treatment received from Lenovo support.  They said I had to buy another set of recovery disks from them for $89 and to try to boot from those disks before I could even deal with hardware support.Paid for the disks on October 17th and was told they should arrive within 5 days (by October 22nd).In the meantime Lenovo support promised a tech would call me to discuss the problem and my concerns that it was really a hard drive problem.  Three times Lenovo support promised me a call, and three times no one called.  I sat at home waiting a day and a half for nothing.It only got worse after that.  Called Lenovo support on October 22nd to ask why the disks hadn?t arrived, and was told, first, that I hadn?t ordered them.  Next, when I referred to my credit card confirmation of the charge, and Lenovo?s confirmation code, the supervisor at Lenovo support finally told me their tech forgot to put in the order (even though they confirmed he charged my credit card at the... I can't say I've experienced the same Lenovo support, but I have opted to NOT use the Lenovo support method of restoring my Z565 once I replace the hard drive. I know, I know, I can create backups from the drive... except for the fact that it won't run long enough to do that.1. I was told that I cannot use a drive over 500GB... No reason was offered, the support person I was speaking with just couldn't find a reason on her flash cards. I want to install a 1TB and see no reason why it shouldn't be possible.2. Not impressed with the support person's apparent inability to offer replacement OS discs without the additional Lenovo required support. I am absolutley NOT a fan of not having driver/OS discs for the eventual death of a hard drive and lacking the ability to restore the machine without extrordinary measures using another computer to go online and get the drivers, copy to a thumb drive, ect... Just give me the darn discs.3. They apparently do not keep good records. I was repeatedly told I have a 250GB HDD, I KNOW I have a 320GB drive. Considering they were referencing information from my serial number, one would think they should know what drive they put in it. While I would like to maintain the OKR and recovery partitions, I'm willing to give them up. In a similar fashion, I have a Dell M710 that had a similar drive failure, but after 5 years of ownership and no extended warranty. I recently sent my 3-month old Y470p for a repair since the charger port was broken.I opened the laptop up and found that there was a broken wire that just had to be resoldered.Since I was afraid of breaking some other parts and I was still under warranty, I sent my laptop to be repaired.It took about a week to repair, and I was perfectly fine with that.However, when I got it back, it was not fixed.It said on my repair status that the laptop had indeed been fixed and would be sent back to me as repaired.Lenovo had just sent me a new charger. The technicians didn't even open the laptop up since I put a tape where the screw was just to know whether or not Lenovo had even bothered to open up the laptop.Of course, the laptop still didn't charge and I called the customer support to know what had happened.Some manager picked up and told me that he could not fix it since that would mean he would have to replace the motherboard which would cost $300.I was frustrated because I had told them that the charger port just needs to be resoldered.The manager just told me over and over that the motherboard needed to be replaced and that he would not do that.I was on the phone for about an hour and then I just hung up because of the manager's stupidity.I have no idea what Lenovo is looking for a technician, but I think you guys really should raise your expectations of how educated the technicians should be. The charging port just needed a simple resoldering in order to be fixed.Yet, ... I cannot get over how badly W10 handles my networked drives. I suspect there are many folks, including businesses, running with networks, these days. W10 seems to have a problem. It certainly can't handle mine. And it is pretty straight-forward, just consisting of 3 D-Link storage enclosures. (DL-323 & Dl-325)

Every time I start my computers, or they awake from sleep, the computer takes forever to connect to the network drives. To make it worse, it pops up a message each and every time, as if I didn't know it was going to take 3 to 5 minutes for the system to get completely connected. And that is with the network connected with Ethernet!

Even worse, if the computer goes to sleep with a file open in nearly any application the system loses track of where it is, and leaves the file marked as open on the network drive. That means on most applications that I lose any changes I made and can't even open the files again except by powering down the network to clear any activity flags.

But it gets even worse. I run an old copy (2009) of Microsoft Streets and Trips occasionally. If the computer goes to sleep with one of the maps I have created open, when I come back the map is completely deleted from my drives. I am getting really friendly with backup restorations. But I still lose any data changes made the day it disappears.

My only defense is to stop eating lunch and dinner or to stop my computers from sleeping. That stinks!

I was wondering if anyone can either help me out with a problem or point me at a Lenovo resource that can. We have purchased a W541 and it periodically (a couple of times an hour) freezes the entire computer, then the screen goes blank and it shuffles the window order you are working on as it recovers.  It would appear to be some sort of graphics driver/hardware acceleration issue but drivers are all up to date. We have next day business cover so I contacted Lenovo Tech support who told us we need a new system board but ETA on the board is 6+ weeks, we said this was not acceptable so got forwarded on to customer complaints. Interestingly they did not want to do any sort of tests to confirm this as an issue it was just the go to response.They have now said they will refund us the cost of the laptop, but that doesn't solve my problem, it means waiting on a refund and then reordering another machine.  I've been trying to get them to just ship a replacement but they won't even entertain that idea. I've tried to escalate with tech support but the technician refused to pass me a manager. I've tried to contact customer complaints but only respond with one or two line emails. Does anyone have contact information for someone who is able to intelligently discuss this situation or any ideas on how to resolve this issue? Thanks, Gary

If the system is shipped with dual graphic provide both details, and also the system MTM (Machine Type Model).

I recently got a refurbished external (USB) wireless adapter by Netgear. It's the WNA3100 but who knows what they did to it while refurbishing it.

I tried using it to connect to the wireless network at my university, and I got the above-displayed error. So what's the deal? This RADIUS thing is not a new technology, right? So any modern wireless adapter should be able to handle it. Why would this thing not support it?


Secondly, if it doesn't work, that's alright. I need a second wireless adapter anyway, so I could use this one at home where the RADIUS thing is not an issue. But how do I make sure this does not happen again with another one that I buy? I can't seem to find anywhere in the specs anything about this compatibility. For instance, I believe I want to get this one next:

Can I be sure that this one will work properly?

The client adapter itself doesn't connect to Radius, the WAP is the authenticator.

Even in the technical specs it only lists WPA(2)-PSK.

It looks like you got an OLD adapter that doesn't support 802.1x (also referred to as WPA(2) Enterprise. You may see if they have an updated driver for it.

I ordered a T61 with 2GB on Sept 9th. When I received the machine, there is only 1GB ram. So I followed advice from this forum. I called the Sales. First they did not believe that there is only 1GB of ram in my laptop. Transferred me to Technical Support. Technical support asked me about my type and SN. I told them it is 6459 and my SN. They said they could not find it in their database. But 6459 is actually what they sell in the shopping page. Worst of all the technical support did not even set a case for me. They kick me back to sales. Sales said "OK. I need your case number." Hell, I never heard of it. I was kicked back to Technical Support again and now they set up a case. Once again I was kicked back to Sales. Sales said "Oh, you got the Case number. It is wonderful. You will be called two days later." I waited for two days. Somebody called me to ask me what is wrong with my laptop at noon. I had to tell him again about the same problem. He said "Sorry sir I cannot help you. Let me transfer you to Sales." Ridiculous! I spent the whole afternoon calling sales and technical support. Finally they agreed there was a mistake. You expect them to send you 1GB ram to fix the problem? NO way. They are not considering your problem. Maybe they never consider the customer's problems. They offered TWO ridiculous OPTIONS1) REFUND and REturn the system,Then ORDER again; (2) REFUND the money for the extra GB of ram. I have already waited a while for my laptop. A month ago I bought a Toshiba Satellite C50-B-15J type of laptop.
I included a Friday Intenso 128GB SSD which was inserted in place of the original HDD.
The original HDD, ODD and a mounting frame into place.

Go for it all properly, but the SSD speed test available by significant falls short SATA3 SSD speed.
My question (because it is not in any specification) to the motherboard chipset does support SATA3 whether the standard?

This is such a relatively new model, it would certainly be expected.

New model doesn't mean best and highest standards. Notebooks are offered with different hardware platforms, mainboards, chipsets and CPUs.

Exact specification of your notebook model is not known to me but you can check transfer rate using different tools like CrystalDiskInfo.

So, my battery suddenly stopped working.  Like many other people with many different models the battery says it is charged, the computer recognizes it and says it is good, but if I unplug it the computer dies.  The battery does not charge when plugged in.  However, if the computer is hibernating it will use a tiny amount of battery power (around 1%) and can be unplugged as long as it is plugged in again before I try to resume using it. Clearly Lenovo has a longstanding and widespread problem with their batteries.  However, since I bought the computer at Best Buy and they registered it when they got it and not when I bought it, I am out of warranty.  When I spoke with someone in warranty they said that happens a lot at Best Buy and to get a reprint of my receipt from them.  Best Buy claims they have no receipt for my purchase in their system so I can't prove when I bought it.  When I called technical support they would only tell me to check if it is under a recall and said they "couldn't say anything else about it."  I was told by the receipts person (who was very nice - thanks Jeremiah) that I could talk to customer care and they could help.  He gave me a number (1800-877-7435).  When I called the number they told me they couldn't talk to me and that there was NO CUSTOMER CARE.  Then they transferred me to tech support again.  Tech support told me I could talk to sales at 866-428-4465.  When I talked to the... Hi 32 bit system address up to 4gb 2^32 however I guess you are wondering why you only show 3+ something Ram. From my notes:-

32 bit operating systems support a physical address range of up to 4gb, however this range is sub divided to manage both the computers PCI address range (also known as MMIO, or referred to as the kernel) and Ram.The PCI address range is used to manage much of the computer's components including the BIOS,IO cards,networking, PCI hubs, bus bridges, PCI-Express, and todays high performance video cards (including their memory).Typically this amts to .6 to 1.2 gb for the PCI address range.

On boot up the Bios allocates PCI addresses down from 4GB to manage the computers components, then the bios allocates physical user Ram from address 0 up to the bottom of the PCI address range or up to the amount of the installed physical Ram whichever is less. The upper limit on available physical Ram is usually between 3GB and 3.4GB.

Hi Guys I look at this forum often in the background and i have had a question of my own.

I'm going to set up a server for a friend, mainly file storeage. I was hoping to put WS2008R2 Std, but WS2008 std will do if i can't get R2 in time.

I have seen other post about compatiblity between XP desktops and the server and my question is a little more in depth.

I want to set up a domain on the server, dhcp, and file security levels for some of the folders. I think thats about it, nothing fancy, AD maybe. Sort of winging it as I go.

Is this going to be compatible?

I am looking for a new source for tech support for my small business. Looking for a provider where I can actually talk with the person who is remotely accessing my systems as they are working on or at least from time to time during the process. The chat function only method just does not work for me. Thought someone here might have some suggestions.

you would need to contact local companies or even global companies and see what their offer contains and price
Support will vary considerably depending on the level of service you require
think about the response time you require , any guaranteed fix times , backup and disaster support, and if you also require software support , and that the organisation has the skills to be able to provide the correct level of support for both your hardware and software

what happens if the building burns down or all the equipment is flooded - ie disaster recovery - would the business be able to survive and continue to operate
what happens if you lose your data , do you have offsite backups and how long would it take to get you back to work

quite a few things to consider before engaging with a service provider

Just to say a warm thanks to all those people I have worked with in the past to try and help people with problems (Bomb, OBP, Slurpee, Firetyr spring to mind).
I had a a run in with a moderator on another forum in Tech Support Guy, called JohnWill. In trying to help a friend who is new to this forum I got bad attitude from this person.
I like a lot of you have put a lot of hard work in trying to support people.
I do not expect to be treated like that, so I am going to spend my time elsewhere.

Hi, I wonder if Lenovo offer any support for the very common issues that this product of theirs has? 1. This products energy management reacts to low battery by shutting down the wifi totally, and you ar not able to turn it on again in other ways than recharging the battery to a high percentage, plus shutting down and restarting the computer totally. This is incredibly disturbing, almost as disturbing as the fact that Lenovo seems to have put no effort in solving the problem. Does Lenovo not have aim to help its customers with this? No updates in the energy management system? No work-arounds?  Some users say they have uninstalled Lenovo Energy Management 8 and installed version 7 but it does not install on my Windows 8.1.  2. This product has what Lenovo calls a "Mini-VGA" port. With my U510 there came an adapter for connecting standard VGA cables to the port. It did not work and I have found no evidence of anyone getting it t work, only problems with it. And not a single answer regarding the problems by Lenovo? Has anyone got an answer about how to get it to work, or has someone found that their mini-VGA works with an adapter? Did anyone get help by Lenovo?  (Not me) Please share if ! 3. Does the Thinkpad P51s support the Thinkpad Thunderbolt 3 Dock? I have the Thinkpad P51s with stock Windows 10 Pro and updated to latest drivers and Windows version and installed the latest Thinkpad Thunderbolt 3 Dock drivers. Attaching the Thunderbolt 3 Dock to the P51s as described in documentation, it charges the notebook, however, noting attached to the dock is recognized. I've tested with attaching USB flash drives, headphones, Ethernet, HDMI, and DP, but nothing is recognized nor are any warnings/errors displayed in Windows. While the Thinkpad Thunderbolt 3 Dock is listed as being compatible with the P51s and T570, the notebook order page does not list the Thunderbolt 3 Dock in any of the accessories lists. Lenovo Sales also confirmed that the Thunderbolt 3 Dock is fully compatible with the P51s.  However, I needed to purchase the Thunderbolt 3 Dock separately from the notebook order. What's going on? Has anybody successfully used the P51s or the T570 with the Thinkpad Thunderbolt 3 Dock? Or is this something I need to wait for full support via a future BIOS/driver update? Or perhaps my Thunderbolt 3 Dock is defective? Thanks,Boris

We have a small business server with 4 x p.c's on the LAN with 1 x p.c at home connected by Logmein to one of the P.C's.

The Server is 98% full on the C drive with nothing on the D drive - It must be set up incorrectly?

The Server and P.C's have Logmein Installed for remote access.

We are looking for a cost effective support service as we also have a wish list of standard things we want to do with the system.

Hi forum, I have purchased the new Yoga 900 BE (business edition) which supposedly adds TPM and Lenovo Active Pen support. I had that confirmed 4 times by 4 different Lenovo online sales support people before placing the order. Now I have the Yoga, and the active pen - and it does not work. No information on drivers, or firmware updates is available anywhere. What should I do to make the pen work? thx in advance Peter

If I buy a XPS 15 with Premium support, which comes with Windows 10 pre-installed, remove Windows 10 to install Ubuntu and then require support, will I have a problem because I removed the default OS?

I need help with who to contact with a premium customer support issue. 
I purchased a top of the line XPS 15-9560 with 32GB RAM and 1TB SSD. I also paid for 4 years of Premium Support. (Total bill was over $3400)  However, from day-one the unit had a screen flicker issue. I tried to resolve it myself for a few weeks, and eventually contacted Dell Support. 
After replacing the screen and motherboard, the problem persisted. So I called and requested a replacement unit. They agreed to replace my computer. I told them to send it to a pick-up center, since I'm not at home during the day. Instead, they sent it to my home, but left off the apartment number. When I asked them about this, they told me to call Fedex and change the delivery instructions. So, I called Fedex, only to be informed that only Dell is allowed to change the delivery instructions. So I called Dell Premium Support contact (in another country, with a VERY difficult to understand English accent), only to be scolded by them for NOT BEING AT HOME ALL DAY!!! Then, they told me again that it was my responsibility to call Fedex and provide new delivery instructions. I explained that this was impossible, because the Dell Fedex account doesn't allow the recipient to change those details. The person assured me that they would change the details for me. I was wondering if Vista Business allowed me to create a dynamic disk/ volume based RAID-1 for my Windows/ boot partition. And by support I mean out-of-the-box, not with some hack. And yes, I know that there are plenty of mobo's that have driver-based RAID-1 solutions but that is not what I was asking.

Heh, I tested a lot of RAID functionality with Vista during Beta. At first, it was descent, but by the time Vista went gold it just disappeared, only to re-appear again with the launch. I'm currently working on a RAID-5 as my main partition, and two raid 0's for back-up drives on Vista Utl.. I've got another test machine which is running business, but have yet to get my off-board RAID set back up over there if only because of time. Be aware though, it may not just be vista who has problems, any program (such as adobe) may have to supply you with a patch for their software to work right in a raid environment.

My wife has an S10-2 Model 29577NU. She's quite sick of the limitations of Windows 7 Starter, I figure $80 for the upgradetoHome Premium is well worth it but I can not find any information on if this is even possible. Can anyone point me to some solid data on weather this unit can handle Windows 7 Home Premium?

So I have a good question for ya.
We are deploying Win7 with App Locker, Bit Locker and a ful range of security. Also Domain Users will not be in Local Admins. Thus when users call in to support and we have to walk them through the process, they will not have rights to access most management consoles.They will not have rigts toMy Computer > Properties> Manage. They will get You do Not Have Permissions to do this.
No checking Wireless settings, starting a Defrag, or most troubleshooting tools.

SOo......... Does any body have any ideas or best pratices. I'm for a local account with a secure PWD that resets. A tool that can elevate users for a session. I'm most worried about users calling in that cant get on the internet so we cant remote in.

Well, when users aren't admins, they then need to be supported by users who have the necessary rights and permissions to carry out that support. It might make sense to create a domain group that contains the support folks, and use group policy restricted groups to add that group to the local administrators group on the local machines. That way, any remote assistance sessions with a help desk or field technician will allow that technician to use their credentials to do the administrative tasks necessary. If your users don't have internet access, then they can use the troubleshooters in the control panel or from the Action Center to try and fix it - no admin perms necessary. This particular edge scenario should not be a problem in Windows 7.

I installed Service Pack 1 on my Vista computer about a month or so ago. Then I sent the computer away to be repaired which is why I didn't notice the problem until now: My MTP devices are no longer working. They show up in Device Manager under "other devices", labeled correctly and with a yellow exclamation mark by their name.

I am unable to sync with them in any application, and I can't open and browse them either. After some digging I have discovered that the culprit is the file wpdmtp.inf or rather, its absence. It's not on my computer. I have a file called wpdmtphw.inf but not the driver file that Vista searches for and fails to find.

I did not have this problem before I installed Service Pack 1. Do I need to uninstall it, or is there a less drastic method I have overlooked? I have already tried this hotfix, and it did not help.

In Control Panel, double-click Add New Hardware.
Click Next,
Choose, Install the hardware that I manually select. Click Next
In the Hardware Types box, choose show all devices.Click Next
Choose (Standard MTP-Compliant Devices) on the left and then the devices you are missing on the right.
If that doesn?t work, repeat all the steps, and choose have disc (instead of the step above), to install them from your Vista disc.

This is my situation. I have a users that currently uses a desktop machine in the office. We are going to replace her desktop with a laptop/docking station combo. Our current config is this, the users "documents and settings" folder is stored on the server. So the users "my documents" and "applicaiton settings" are stored server side. The user is able to log onto the domain while offline, but none of her files are accessible b/c they are all stored server side. In the end, i would like the user to have all her server side files also stored locallly so she can still access them offline and when she comes back into the office, resync it all.

How could i do this?

Offline files. Point the users My Documents folder to the server using the UNC path. Then right click on My Documents and check Make available Offline. Walk through the wizzard and your set.

After a great deal of investigating online (that's how I found this sweet website!) I was able to confirm that Windows 7 Home Premium does not have advanced language supports.

That being said, it is still possible to display foreign languages on your computer, you just have to know how to activate them. My issue started when I could not view the text for my international music. After some fidgeting, I found a solution. This is a guide that you will not find simply by searching on Microsoft's websites, as most of their tech Support is specialized for 7 Ultimate and Enterprise.

1. Click on your "Start" icon and and type "Region and Languages" into the search bar
2. After clicking, look for the "Keyboard and Languages" tab and click
3. Click on the "Change Keyboards" button
4. Under the "General" tab, look below to the box entitled "Installed Services"
5. It will have your primary language listed, in my case English
6. To the right of the "Installed Services" box, click the "Add" button
7. Scroll through the list and open the drop box, and then click on "Keyboard"
8. Select the language you desire, in my case "Japanese" and "Russian"
9. Then click "Ok" to add it, then "Ok" to close the "Keyboard and Languages" and the "Region and Languages" boxes

According to a table at Wikipedia it says that the maximum supported CPU Core's for Windows 7 Home Premium Edition is 1. Does this mean the OS itself will not support a dual core in its own operation, or does it mean that it will nullify any Dual Core support on the system thus rendering a Dual Core useless?It seems that only supporting a single core is rather stupid considering I bought my computer 3 years ago, I don't see why they would even release an OS that doesn't support hardware 3 years old, especially considering there are now QUAD-Core machines.

Upon further reading the chart states "Number of Physical CPU's" and not "Number of Cores" so any version of Windows will run even a Quad-Core as long as they are on ONE single chip.

I see by the Microsoft website that they have removed support for Home Premium and other versions without service packs. This has pole-axed a couple of client workstations on my remote working network from receiving updates. Have tried installing the service packs manually but just get a "missing element" message. I cannot now get Windows Update to work. Any help appreciated.

This desktop from Lenovo has been the best computer I have ever own by far. Not a single problem until last night when suddenly my blue tooth suddenly disappeared after a re-boot. Just recently got a pair of blue tooth head phones and was really disappointed. No problem, I got the "premium" Lenovo support package with a 855 number to take of things. Was told my "premium" support did not cover this because it was a software problem ... ah what? But hey, for $20 more a month we'll take care of your problem. Say what? I was furious and was not about to fork over another $200.  If that didn't make me mad enough the monitone customer support person was speaking from an obviously pre-scripted answers and responses to my fury. Then gave me as fake a pleasant good bye as I've ever heard after I refused multiple times her attempts to upsell me in different ways. One time fix for $99, yearly for 199$ or 20/month for 10 months. I was furious. Now I was determined to fix this thing myself. Suddenly I remembered a blue tooth dongle left over from the computer this one replaced. Put it in, all works fine and didn't spend a dime. Hope this helps someone else who thought like I did that "premium service" meant just that and not what I got.

Our call volume here at AppleCare is 4-5x higher than normal and [the overwhelming majority] of our calls are about this Mac Defender and its aliases. Many frustrated Mac users think their Mac is impervious to viruses and think this is a real warning from Apple. I really wish I could say not many people will fall for this, but in this last week, we have had nothing but Mac Defender and similar calls.

How do you find the technical support?
I find it really bad. I sent them a mail regarding kaspersky slowing down the internet connection, they sent me a reply with a solution which didn't work, so I sent them back a message saying the solution didn't work and to provide an alternative, I haven't received a message again, its been a month almost!
I used the kaspersky forum & I find the members especially the senior members and moderators extremely rude.
I remember sending a Personal Message to a moderator, I sent the PM with my caps lock on, he replied back saying he wasn't BLIND and wasn't stupid to read message in caps. Now that seemed unprofessional

Hello everyone,i have a Thinkpad R40 with windows xp i want to upgrade to something newer, i ran the upgrade wizard and it says i need at least a 40 gb hdd. i have a 40 hdd installed but only shows like 27 gb. i was wondering if i totally reformat the hdd and redo the partiions to get the full 40 gb, is there a way to reinstall the function from the "access ibm" button or should i just restore the computer to factory from the "access ibm " button? Any suggestions are appreciated. Thank you

I have a Lenovo Yoga 3 11 (Yoga 3-1170), which was released this year. But the official Lenovo drivers website is alreay dropping behind, say, the official  drivers website for the more premium Yoga 3 Pro-1370. To illustrate my point, the trackpad driver on the 1170 support site is out of date (20 July 2015) and as such the right click button of the trackpad does not work correctly with WIndows 10. Wheras the trackpad driver on the 1370, has a later date (23 Sept 2015) and has fixed the right click bug. This 1370 trackpad works perfectly on my 1170, so why hasn't the 1170 driver website been updated? I do realise of course know that the drivers for one model are not necessarily compatible with another model. But I am questioning whether that is the reason why the 1170 support page is not being updated. I see that the 1370 website has a "Energy Management Driver for Windows 10 (64-bit) - Notebook"  driver, recently added on 29 Sept 2015. There is no such driver on the 1170 website. Now my Lenovo Yoga 3 11 (1170) is not without overzelous CPU throttling problems, so I am wonding whether this driver is not on the 1170 website because it is not compatible/necessary for my 1170, so simply because Lenovo have failed to update the website.

Since December 14th I cannot remove Bloodhound.Exploit.139 from my computer or external hard drives. I have restored my laptop and reinstalled new versions of Norton Security on my computer and have scanned all my external hard drives and still cannot remove this virus/trojan from my computer. Norton keeps detecting this virus and indicating it has been successfully removed; however, while working on my laptop, Norton continuously alerts me it has found a virus and has removed it over and over again. At the same time my TEMP files duplicate in size--reaching 2,600. I have to place my computer in SAFE MODE to delete files from my TEMP folder in order to have my laptop have any type of processing speed. It seems even though I have restored my computer with DELL, I have either reinfected my C drive with my external hard drives, which I thought I thoroughly cleaned with the virus scanner.

I have paid $$$$ to have Norton Symmantec Premium Service Technicians remove the virus but they have yet to succeed from February 19th and my 30 days warranty is almost over!

Please HELP! I need my laptop for work and I'm literally to the point of crying because of frustration and the lack of ability to keep up with all the techno lingo.

Basically, has anyone tried to see if the Xbox 360 controller will work to navigate the Metro UI? For desktop use, I don't care, but as a potential HTPC, this would be excellent.

Hi and thanks for reading.

I've been using Kaspersky a long while and they've sometimes been kind of laggard responding to problems, but suddenly I'm finding them astonishingly bad -- condescending, incompetent, inattentive, and glacially, glacially slow, even though they know my entire system has been waiting on them for two weeks now.

I like Kaspersky as a program but this is making me feel like switching.

(I also use Malwarebytes and the story is totally different. Problems taken care of instantly and courteously. And fewer of them.)

My question to the cognoscenti on this fine forum is simply this: are there any pay-antivirus programs where I will get real support for my money?

"Real support" means real people getting back to me within 24 hours rather than a week (without having to be pestered), reading my problems carefully, knowing just what to do, and not making me feel like I'm a burden or incompetent for asking.

Obviously the program has to work too! But I do little online that really exposes me to huge risks, and I'm realising this one factor outweighs many others for me at this point. If there is a program that stands out strongly in customer service, I really want to know about it.

i currently have a dell Inspiron 5558 laptop for over an year now but the screen stop working over 6 months ago, i looked up the warranty information at the time of screen stopped working and was re-assured that it showed February 18, 2017 therefore i did not consider that it is very urgent to call tech support since i have other laptops. today when i call the support service, i was informed that product was not registered and i have to pay $233 to replace the LCD screen, they still argued that dell warranty website showed the correct information but when i looked it up, the website still displays the same.  did anyone else encounter this issue??

The only supported card on this model is Intel 7260 2x2, 802.11 BGN .and the applicable BIOS version is 96CN29WW (V1.15)

 I bought TPS230U in may2013, and one monthe ago, the laptop just turned off by itself and wont turn on anymore. I had tried troubleshoop refresh and resetting options but it doesnt work.
My warranty certificate is still valid for itnernational support (now I live in  Brazil), so that, I called Brazilīs support (My laptop ID is: Type 3347 2GU S/N xxxxxxx 13/02.
At the first time I contacted by phone, the attendant asked me to (once again) turn off the laptop  and call back again. Well, I did it, adn (of course) it didnt work. So I called once again. The second the new clerk said I should buy a cd or dvd ( which could not be via USB stick ) , download from other computer and copy  an image file  that lenovo would understand the problem . I explained that I had not cd to record that moment. But he was very rude, and told me that it the  support goes to my house and concludes that there is a software problem and not hardwa, I was supposed to pay for the visit. So, I went to a store and bought a recordable CD , recorded the ISO file and got home to insert it into the laptop and....for my surprise,  my laptop doenst have any  entry for CD ! I feel that lenovo has been really disrespectfull with me and all I want is to have a simple support to my laptop, but I still couldnt have. Pleaase let me know how can I solve this problem before my waranty term expires!!!

I keep receiving calls from fake MICROSOFT Tech support with various telephone numbers. Strange, they do not show up in my phone on line logs. They wanted me to go to FASTSUPPORT\763721586 ( do not use  these numbers). It is a company  called they also give you a complaint department where you can enter the number that you feel is causing you problems, the number of the LOGMEINRESCUE type remote access code. of course it is clear to them that you are suspicious and they will get rid of the  phone operator who didn't succeed. I have a T430s laptop and it is less than 6 months old. It starting getting blue screens within a month of purchasing it. Technical support has been helpless in trying to fix the laptop. First, tech support told me to turn update my computer daily. Then another tech support employee told me to turn OFF my auto updates. This did nothing and over a few weeks the blue screens progressively got worse. Next, tech support told me to run a diagnostic on my computer which turned up nothing. Then, they tried giving me recovery discs and a new hard drive. After that failed they took it in to replace the system board which made the blue screens worse. Then they sent me MORE recovery CDs to try to fix the problem and that also made the blue screens worse. I called tech support after this and they said they would send in a request for a replacement laptop. I was told I would hear from someone in a couple days. FIVE days later I got a called from someone asking if I wanted a replacement and I said yes. Then I was told I had to wait two more business days to get contacted about it. Another 3-4 business days later, someone called me to tell me that they would NOT be replacing the laptop despite the fact tech support could not fix the laptop. After calling tech support once again, I was told that they wanted me to send in my laptop again for up to 7 business days! This is completely unacceptable. I have a Thinkpad Edge 15 - model code 031925U, serial number 1ZJP21840L6 that I have owned from new.  I now need to reload Windows, because of problems with its audio on Microsoft Skype.  When I go to Lenovo Support, I cannot find anything anymore.  I am prompted to enter product description, model type number or serial number... I try all of these, but it's as if my laptop never existed.  I've checked, and right on the keyboard bezel there's a Lenovo label, so I think it's real.  Can anybody point me to the download page for this model, please?  Thanks for your assistance.

I've encountered an interesting case on my new ThinkPad R61.  It comes with one PC-Card slot, which purportedly supports PCMCIA (16-bit) and CardBus (32-bit); however, it appears only to support CardBus.  This would be "okay," except for the fact that a GemPC400 card reader (component 31P8904 / FRU 41N3007) was offered and ordered when loading out my system.So.  Diagnostics:When I insert CardBus (32-bit) cards into my R61, they are recognized.  When I insert the same cards into my T23, they are recognized.When I insert PCMCIA (16-bit) cards into my R61, they are unrecognized.  When I insert the same cards into my T23, they are recognized.When I insert my GemPC400 into my R61, it is unrecognized.  When I insert the same card into my T23, it is recognized.  Which makes sense, considering the GemPC400 is a PCMCIA card.I conclude, therefore, that the R61 doesn't actually support PCMCIA.  And that Lenovo probably shouldn't offer the GemPC as an optional card for the R61, or any other system using the Ricoh R5C847 chipset, which is responsible for -- among other things -- providing PC-Card support.Am I off base here?  Is there an R61 user that can support the GemPC400 or other PCMCIA card?  Now, this is probably the kind of thing they can fix in a firmware update.  But for the time being, I've got a fifty dollar item that I can't use in my new system.  And that makes me sad.

I just received my R61 which has the combination PC card slot for one PCMCIA and one Express Card.The express works fine,  PCMCIA cards (Sony GC79) when inserted are not recognized at all.  Card works fine on my other laptop.  Search for new hardware finds nothing.   Both systems are Windows XP.I did borrow a PCMCIA from a friend.  It started to recognize it then went to bluescreen.I'm looking for ideas, solutions, or next course of action.Thanks.

Hello there, I have got a ThinkPad T550 (20CKA00ECD) with i5-5200U which should support AES-NI ( However, when I look it up in HWiNFO, there is no AES-NI.? I've updated to the nearest BIOS version (1.15), but there are not any options to enable it. I wonder if the engineers of Lenovo could release a BIOS update so that the AES-NI function of CPU would not be wasted? The only change needs to be done is the value of 0x13c, and I think it won't take too long for the modifying. Thanks

So, long story short, my computer is in on repair and they came and took it 10 days ago. Its been on repair before so im familiar with the process, however this time, the process have been different and it have made me worry. Last time i had it on repair i was given a number to track the repair process of my computer, this time they have not said a word since they came and took it..Making me worry if it have even arrived at the repair shop. I of course want to contact lenovo support about the matter to make sure everything is as its supposed to, and my computer isnt missing. However, for some reason the recive a call and the chat to a support agent online are missing, and in the email option the email wont send. So im unable to even contact them. Just wondering if there is any other way? or if others had their computers on repair without hearing a word from lenovo untill the computer arrived at your door again 14 weekdays later?

I've got a ThinkPad 460s that doesn't have have the option to select TPM 1.2 in the BIOS. We're planning on updating to TPM 2.0 and EUFI when we roll out Win10, which is in testing currently, but we need to use TPM 1.2 to support BitLocker on Win7 for now. We have other 460s that have the option to choose from Discreete TPM 1.2 or Intel PTT with TPM 2.0 but this one machine is missing the 1.2 option. How can we change this? Thanks, -Steve

Hello, my Brother recently gave his TPY 14 to me, he never use any Pen or stylus with it. I want to make sure whether my TPY 14 support Active digitizer or not. I've a question for the users who upgraded from Windows 7 or Windows 8.1 to Windows 10 and maintained the installed software:
1) Was the transition smooth? Were there any failures during the upgrade process?
2) Regarding software compatibility, is the software that was installed before the upgrade process running correctly? Or is there any software that is crashing because the lack of compatibility, wrong path, etc? If you've experienced crashes, please tell which software did crash.
3) Drivers: Was there any broken driver support after the upgrade?
4) Gaming: For those who upgraded and had Steam and games installed BEFORE the upgrade process, after the upgrade, can these games be played correctly, or were/are there any problems launching/playing them (blue screens, crashes and so on)? If so, which games are not workign correctly after the upgrade?
5) Gaming again: Was there any performance loss or gain after the upgrade? Have demanding games like GTA V suffered any performance hit, like FPS losses, stuttering and so on? Is the SLI working correctly, or has the SLI support been broken for some games? If so, which ones?

I just upgraded from windows 7 to windows 10, I loved the layout and it was smooth but steam client was not working so I spent over 10 hours trying different things and nope, so I called Microsoft and they could not help said if it did not work then it was not compatible steam does not have any version yet and has not got back to me about fixing it. I tried every thing and no luck, I like windows 10 but no steam is insane so I reverted to windows 7 and it worked again sad day :(

We are Dell resellers and had placed an order for 43 Laptops - Dell Latitude 3560 with Dell on 13th June, 2016. We delivered them to our customer on Friday 17th June, 2016. On Monday 20th June we discovered that all the Laptops are faulty and are not functioning properly. They have not been able to use a single system due to touchpad issues in the entire lot
We have made innumerable calls Dell to resolve the problem, but the team is unable to identify and rectify the problem. 
We have spoken to our partner account manager, regional account manager, Service Specialist and Escalation Team, requesting them to provide us with a solution at the earliest as their work is getting hampered. Our customer has to deploy the same by 1st July however they do not have any Dell Laptops functioning correctly.  
How do we escalate this to the Dell management and get a replacement ASAP

I paid for 3 years of support and accidental damage in home support. Together, it cost around $400 on my new XPS laptop. Afew months after I bought XPS 15 9560, I pulled out the charging cord, and a round piece of plastic that was inside the port came out too.
I called technical support at 5 pm EST, and received someone in Southern India. I gave them my information, and they confirmed that I had service. They then fought with me for 15 minutes, telling me I could NOT have any in home service. The representative, who kept calling me by my first name (no respect)  said I had to send my laptop to a depot in Texas for them to identify the issue. Finally, after I insisted, the representative, S. Sirya Kiran, FINALLY allowed me to get in home support IF I sent him photos of the damage. I did. Finally, I received an email telling me to select a date for service, which I did, 12/18/17 between 9 am and 1:00 pm .
I took time off and waited. No one came by 11:30, or called. So I contacted World Wide Tech Services. They then told me they didn't have enough techs to handle my area, so they were NOT coming. I asked why no one gave me the courtesy of a phone call and they had no answer. They said a new company, Unisys, would contact me. (I doubt they ever will.)
Is this what Dell gives people for their money as far as support and accidental damage in home service for $400? This is an outrage.

Someone told me in another thread, and I also read here, that

All Wireless N routers support dual-band 802.11nClick to expand...

implying that any wireless N router can use the 5 GHz band as well as the 2.4 GHz band. Isn't that the implication?

Then why is it that when I browse routers, only some of them list both 2.4 and 5 GHz frequency, while others list only 2.4 in the specs? I want to switch my network over to 5 GHz in order to get away from all the interference I'm getting, as discussed in this thread.

So what's the real answer? Will any cheap "wireless N" router be able to do 5 GHz, (e.g. this one?) or do I need a more expensive dual band one?

No. The 802.11n standard supports 5GHz, but does not require it. Now if a device was 802.11ac, it will have a 5GHz radio since that standard only works on that freq.

Hello there, I'm interested in finding out more about the X220 - In particular the actual bandwidth available to the i7 Version of the X220 with it's USB 3 port. I'd like to be able to use the Black Magic Design Intensity Shuttle with this laptop, however it requires a Super Speed USB 3.0 Port. It's common for laptops to only use a single PCIe lane interconnect, giving the USB3 Port only 2.5gbps of available bandwidth. This won't be enough to allow that capture card to work  A similar situation also exists for the Expresscard slot - To be able to support Expresscard v2.0, It needs to provide 5gbps (2x PCIe v1 lanes). If it does this, It's possible I can buy an USB 3 Expresscard which will have enough bandwidth to use the card. In short I would like to know if the super speed USB 3 port can actually function at the intended speed, and is not crippled to half rate.

Started about a month ago - pops up over and over and over and over - about every five minutes or less.  I've got a Dell Studio XPS with Windows 7 Professional.  Another forum said to just uninstall Dell Support Center (Support Center Software) - but when I try to uninstall it - THE SAME STUPID WINDOW POPS UP ASKING ME TO INSERT THE SOFTWARE.  I tried doing a Browse and it's looking for DSC20.msi.  I haven't managed to find it yet.  I have at least found \Program Files(x86)\Dell Support Center but there's so many sub-directories...
I shouldn't have to be jumping through so many hoops just to uninstall a program.  This is driving me crazy and I haven't found an answer online yet.

I am using a Thinkpad E550 laptop with 3.0 Ultra Dock. Currently I have my 4K monitor hooked up with Displayport into the Ultra Dock and am only able to reach 4K resolution with 30 hz refresh rate. Unfortunately due to this, there is a lot of "choppyness" in the display, mouse movements, etc. Ideally i need the refresh rate to be at least 60 Hz. Is there a known possibility to get these settings with the current equipment? It seems DP is only capable of outputting 60 Hz refresh rate but the Laptop doesnt have a DP port. I can only get that through the dock. HDMI doesn't seem to do the trick either.

Hi all,Just bought a X240 unit in october, as I have owned an IBM T41P, a Lenovo X61s and a W500 and was statisfied. On the 09.02 I called the ThnkPad support center as my unit don't want to start. After a short diagnostic phase ,the support girl said the motherboard have to be changed and booked an onsite tech guy for the 13.02 ā 9pm. On the 11.02 at 3am, just called again the support to know where is the guy. They just replied he can visit until 6am. and if he did not come today, he will come tomorrow. Ring back again the support on the 12.02, around 3am, I have been told that the tech guy just leave me a VM, but not on my number. Quite strange as wqe checked the number when I opened the ticket. The tech was supposed to ring me back.Ring back again and again the support on the 13.02 as I don't have any news from the 48h onsite support. The only answer is ... we are chasing the tech. Today, a week after, my computer is still out of service, wihtout any update from Lenovo. If somebody got the good to know address or contact in France rather than the call center located somewhere in Romania, it could be helpful

I wanted to buy a W500 with a XP-downgrade (from Vista business 32), and wondered about getting full windows installation disks. Rang Lenovo and they said just to phone after receiving thinkpad, and we will send you both sets of disk out to you (no mention of any charge).W500 arrived, and came with Vista Business installed. No other disks. So rang and asked for 2 sets of installation disks. Lenovo said, fine, but will cost you $86 or so each. Then asked on how to install present Vista OS on new HD - told to use restore function to create set of CD's. 7 in all (took 13). Removed hard drive that came with the system and replaced it with SSD, after being formatted and checked - ran perfectly as external drive. Within the W500, it was not recognized. The dreaded Error 2100.Visited Lenovo web site and read some info on problems W500 etc having with some new drives. Couldn't get it to work, nevertheless.So phoned Lenovo Technical Support and was asked "where did you buy the drive"? I said "Australia". Was told "we do not support third-party hardware". That support would only discuss hardware bought that came with the system or bought directly from Lenovo. Directed me to Lenovo web site, and added: "We are IBM, and we only support our own hardware" (not "IBM-compatible"?). "We are not the same as Lenovo". Hi RikaashYou should provide more information about your Yoga (Type Number from the back).If your Yoga has a digitizer input in addition to the touch input on the screen then some of the Wacom pens would work (I'm using a Wacom Bamboo Feel with my Yoga S240 20CD). But Lenovo sells some of its Yoga types in two versions, with digitizer and without.When your Yoga was delivered without a pen included, it's probably not "pen enabled". I have an X220 and while back when Windows 7 was around 4GB sticks were already very expensive. Today 8GB sticks are readily avialable. So Intel says the chipset does support 16GB so can I install a pair of 8GB sticks in my X220 and be able to perk up performance? My rig has an i5-2520M CPU and I am using x64 Windows so I can leverage more memory The BIOS is UEFI so I can use a larger capacity SSD too

I have just sent a thinkpad back for repair for the first time in over 20 years of owning  Thinkpad.  I have had 8 thinkpad  series laptops in my time as well as a few desktops and now lenovo phones. I am absolutely horrified with the diabolical Thinkpad support. This is meant to be business level support. I feel like I am phoning up Curry's.  Laptop sent back with hard disk in it and I am being told now that it "turned up without a hard disk in it". Now undercurrent of me lying. Original problem had not been assessed and I still don't have my laptop back after 3 weeks. Customer service agents just tell you anything they want to get you off the phone. I suppose all things come to an end but my loyalty to the Thinkpad brand is probably over now.  I am sure I am not the first. Has anyone else come across this?

I upgraded to Win 10 via Windows update.  All went well, everything worked fine, but I did later find out that Lenovo isn't supporting T420 with driver updates for Win 10.  While Windows 10 was still installed, I looked at the driver support page for the T420, Win 10 is not listed as an option in the drop down of OSs.  Accepting this, and not wanting to run into problems later down the road with future Win 10 updates, I rolled back to Win 7Pro.  Now I don't think I have a straight answer on whether the T420 actually is supported under Win 10 or not.  The first thing I did after rolling back was to go to the Lenovo driver support page.  Now it shows windows 10 in the drop down as a supported OS.  What's up with that?  I've looked in the forums and elswhere online and every indication is that the T320 is not officually supported.  Lenovo does not list it as supported.  But yet now Windows 10 drivers are listed for the T420, but only when I'm running Windows 7Pro, not when I'm running Windows 10.  I'm assuming that the website is autodetecting my current OS.  I can't make heads or tails of it.  I'd like to go back to Windows 10, but given the confilcing info from Lenovo...Anyone have any suggestions.

I am using a Thinkpad E550 laptop with 3.0 Ultra Dock. Currently I have my 4K monitor hooked up with Displayport into the Ultra Dock and am only able to reach 4K resolution with 30 hz refresh rate. Unfortunately due to this, there is a lot of "choppyness" in the display, mouse movements, etc. Ideally i need the refresh rate to be at least 60 Hz. Is there a known possibility to get these settings with the current equipment? It seems DP is only capable of outputting 60 Hz refresh rate but the Laptop doesnt have a DP port. I can only get that through the dock. HDMI doesn't seem to do the trick either.

You might check your monitors user manual to see what mode your monitor's "Display port stream" is set to by default, and if set to DP 1.1, change it to DP 1.2 using the monitors OSD ( On Screen Display).     Once in DP 1.2 mode you should be able to up your graphic adapters output frequency to 60hz Good Luck,

Hello, i would like to know which CPU this laptop supports (list). I found some info about cpu on forum, but there is no complete list of CPU support. I tried to use lenovo support with automatic detection, but it failed (no model in base). I have Lenovo think pad SL 510, 2847-CVG, S/N: LR-29H04, 11/01. I kindly as you for the help. Is T9900 or I7 620M supported (im thinking on upgrading cpu on one of this)? i found detail specifications ( about my laptop, but im not sure is they are correct about cpu (different voltage- i7 55W, T6670-35w- now installed). Thank you for your help!

Dear Ladies and Gentlemen, I have bought a used Thinkpad X300 from a bargainer; model: 6477-R7U. My thinkpad has a SSD from TDK Model: HS1B. I run Windows 7 Professional 64bit. I have following problems:- Windows 7 often does not boot right but starts CHKDSK which finds several wrong indexes and has to repair the file system.- Today I have copied 25GB of data onto my hard disk but some of the files were corrupted and I had to run CHKDSK to make them readable.- Once the Windows registry was corrupted somehow though I had not done anything to the registry so that I had to reinstall Windows. I have run PC-Doctor to make a diagnosis of the ssd and the total system and no errors were reported. Also the hard disk quick chek of my bios works without reporting any errors. On the downside of my notebook at the label of the serial number is written "DEMO" followed by the serial number. Also I can not find any documentation, driver or firmware updates for this TDK SSD! Now I am not sure if my ssd is somehow damaged and I do not know what the "DEMO" before my serial number means. Was the bargainer allowed to sell the notebook as a used notebook to me? Can you help me with this issue? If it is needed I can send you the serial number of my notebook. Regards Bojan Pounarov

I got a strong suspicion that the SSD is only compatible with window XP. I had one of these non standard SSD before, it can't install vista from normal installation procedure, and when i finally got vista installed using image cloning, it would also boot up with random failure. The issue could be the driver or in worst case, the firmware on the SSD itself. My suggestion is to1) use an external usb casing and use another computer to write/retrieve data from it to see if the SSD is corrupted (my suspicion is that it is not). The best way is to ...2) backup all your data, boot into bios and switch Sata to compatible mode, reinstall win7 using 32bit and see if it is stable.
