\Driver\WUDFRd failed and ASF2 force off

Question: \Driver\WUDFRd failed and ASF2 force off

Hi,
So my first xps 13 had ASF2 force off issues so I returned it and wanted to give another try, hoping this time I'll be lucky enough to get a properly working unit this time. However,

Since 4 days my laptop reboot 3 times, ASF2 force off error in power logs every time. And The driver \Driver\WUDFRd failed to load for the device ACPI\INT3400\2&daba3ff&0 error in event viewer. (Also attached. ) Also whenever this problem occurs, "The speed of processor 1 in group 0 is being limited by system firmware. The processor has been in this reduced performance state for 30 seconds since the last report." warning is also given afterwards.
edit: All of them happened while on battery
Help and suggestions are welcomed. I will send this unit back and stay away from dell If i can not solve this again.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I have a problem with my ThinkCentre E72 (Windows 8). Suddenly, it shuts down with "shut-down" screen. Later, in my Event Viewer, I found the following System Warning:"The driver \Driver\WUDFRd failed to load for the device ROOT\SYSTEM\0001" where the source of problem is Kernel-PnP. Only thing that is plugged in my computer is mouse, keyboard and monitor. Many thanks,Matija

In case anyone else is affected by this, please have a look at my post in Kernel-pnp (PLEASE HELP). Best regards // ThinkErEr

Hi there!
I'm in a desperate need of help.
This is the situation (sorry for my bad English as always...).
Yesterday I left my PC running with a download in progress through MiPony.I told the program MiPony (for the first time) to shut down the PC at the end of the download.Until then the PC had no problem. Before going to bed I checked the PC and I saw that it was offThis morning I turned on the PC and I glimpsed a sign that it was starting a scan (the only letter I saw was I:\) but I could not stop it.The PC is turned on regularly. Only half an hour later I found out that an entire 3TB HDD in 4 partitions had disappearedI did some search and found this error: The driver \Driver\WUDFRd failed to load for the device ROOT\PARAGONBLOCKDEVICE\0000.I tried to reboot but same situation (no scan and normal situation) but NO drive.I checked the event log (attached) and I see the problem started after 4 different event regarding my network connection (It's a week that I have to reset the modem \ router several times a day)

I am seeing several of these Warnings in the Event Viewer, Windows System logs. These are Event ID 219, Source Kernel-PnP.

That said, I am not experiencing any crashes, freezes, BSODs, and everything on my PC seems to be functional. So perhaps I can safely ignore these warnings, but I prefer to get to the bottom of something in case it will lead to problems in the future.

I have done some online research on this event, and none of the suggested fixes seem applicable to me. I have been vigilant in keeping all drivers on my machine up to date. I've checked, and there don't seem to be any newer drivers available for any of my hardware. I also have the Windows Driver Foundation - User-mode Driver Framework service set to "automatic" startup.

The details of this event are below.

Any suggested action to remedy my problem? Thanks!

Question: ASF2 Force off

Hi
i am experiencing random reboots on my Dell Latitude E5440. Following has been noticed:-
1. BIOS log shows "ASF2 Fore off"
2. My Dell is also detecting unexpected shutdown.
3. My Dell Schedule Scan has passed all hardware tests.
4. At times while the laptop is plugged in, the task bar occasionally shows "battery undetected"
Need help to avoid these random reboots

Answer:ASF2 Force off

Hi xanthius_pk,
Thanks for the post! An ‘ASF2 Force off’ error could be the result of several problems. To try and pin this down to a single point of failure I would initially suggest running the systems preboot hardware diagnostics from the F12 menu. Full diagnostics instructions can be found here. If no issues are found in the initial scan you will be prompted to run Extended diagnostics, these tests will take around 30 minutes to complete but will thoroughly scan hardware for concerns.

If no errors are detected, next make sure the latest BIOS and drivers are installed on your system. These updates can all be found here. You could also install and run the Dell Command Update application linked below. This program automatically scans your system for the latest updates and installs for you.

Dell Command | Update
http://www.dell.com/support/home/us/en/04/Drivers/DriversDetails?driverId=H2CN6&fileId=3423072660&osCode=W764&productCode=latitude-e5440-laptop&languageCode=EN&categoryId=SM

You mentioned the battery is not detected intermittently while in Windows. Have you been able to test the system with the battery removed, running solely on AC, to see if the shut downs still occur? Testing the system with a known good battery would also be great, if available, to find out of the shutdowns are being caused by that intermittent detection.

Thanks,

My PC started BSOD-ing a few days ago and now does it every few hours.

It starts with this error:

The driver \Driver\WudfRd failed to load for the device SWD\WPDBUSENUM\_??_USBSTOR#Disk&Ven_Multi&Prod_Flash_Reader&Rev_1.00#058F63666471&0#{53f56307-b6bf-11d0-94f2-00a0c91efb8b}.

Then moves on to:

Then:
Installing printer driver Microsoft XPS Document Writer failed, error code 0x0, HRESULT 0x80070705. See the event user data for context information.

Then:

The print spooler failed to regenerate the printer driver information for driver Microsoft XPS Document Writer for environment Windows x64. Win32 system error code 1797 (0x705). This can occur after an operating system upgrade or because of data loss on the hard drive.

Hi,

Since the 11/18/2012 event viewer (Event ID 219, Task Category 212) has been posting a warning:

The driver \Driver\WUDFRd failed to load for the device WpdBusEnumRoot\UMB\2&37c186b&0&STORAGE#VOLUME#_??_USBSTOR#DISK&VEN (followed by name of USB device)

It only occurs on start up if I have a USB memory device plugged into a USB port. The USB memory device functions perfectly and the error never occurs when I plug in and out a memory device after boot up.

The error only occurs for memory devices like memory sticks, external USB hard drive does not cause this error.

Checking back to around the 11/18/2012 I see nothing that I have changed/installed that might indicate something that has caused this. No other Windows 7 failures or issues.

Booting a second hard drive with windows 7 on the same system (I have this second installation for testing faults etc), the issue does NOT occur.

From checking forums and searching I have found a few others with this issue and a few articles on its cause

WUDFRd failed to load for the device

Event ID 219 is logged after you install Windows 7 or Windows Server 2008 R2

I was just curious as to why it would suddenly start occurring after a particular date when as far as I can tell I have not made any changes to anything around this date.

Also I wondered if there was a fix to stop this, other than removing a memory stick before boot up!

Any thoughts?

Answer:The driver \Driver\WUDFRd failed to load for the device... error

I just started getting this exact same error message logged in Event Viewer when I plug a USB stick into a USB port. It happens with two different sticks from two different manufactures, but it does not happen every time I plug them in. It seems that it may mostly happen the first time I plug a stick in after I have booted up my PC.

Have you been able to find a solution to get these error codes to stop logging?

*** Problem has reappeared, so this is NOT a solution ****
It worked for 5 reboots, so strange it reappeared

Been searching for days to find a solution for this problem (including fresh installs of Windows 10 etc), and today accidentally found it ... for my Asus Maximus V111 Formula at least, but it may also work on other motherboards

In BIOS, ensure that the XHCI Hand-Off is set to ENABLED (default is disabled)

I changed this, and now I can boot the system with USB devices inserted, and not get any Kernal-PnP warnings

Hope this helps somebody else

Full event error: The driver \Driver\WUDFRd failed to load for the device {C5A047D8-CB5B-40E9-B9E3-316AB06B5A18}\WirelessKeyboardFilter`

Driver environment:
Windows 10 x64 desktop
I have a wireless Microsoft mouse
I do not have a Microsoft wireless keyboard
I have the associated transceiver that should work for both (if installed)

This problem started when my Microsoft wireless mouse driver was updated to version 1.0.102.0 (dated 3/16/2016).
This driver update also appears to be responsible for a few other device errors as well:

I believe this new driver assumes you have a wireless keyboard (without checking) and just tries to load a driver for it.

My temporary fix is/was to rollback the driver to the previous Microsoft version 10.0.10586.0 (dated 6/21/2006):

Anyone else run across this condition or have a known solution using the latest driver?

Thanks,

aardvark

At Windows 10 startup this Warning appears in my Event Log as Event ID: 219.

The driver \Driver\WudfRd failed to load for the device SWD\WPDBUSENUM\{a1c931b2-3b00-11e5-9c14-806e6f6e6963}#0000000008100000.

I know why this happens. The device in the message is an internal SATA AHCI hard drive. All AHCI drives, even internal ones, are considered removal or hot swapable. It even causes the safely remove icon to appear sort of like it was a USB drive. It happened on Windows 8.x. Don't remember if it happened on Windows 7. I can't make any changes in my BIOS to make it not hot swapable as there is no option for this drive.

The fix to get rid of the message in W8 was to modify the Service 'Windows Driver Foundation - User-mode Driver Framework' Changing the Startup type from Manual to Automatic fixed the problem. However, on Windows 10 this method does not work.

I can't disable the Service as it's needed for other devices. Just wondering if anyone found a nice clean way to get rid of the warning message like in W8?

And, Yes, I have downloaded and installed all of the latest driver/firmware from my manufacturer for all my hardware but still have this issue.

Hello,
We got several Dell Latitude e5430 machines with the same problem.
They shutdown randomly.
In the bios event we can see "ASF2 Force Off"
They have all the latest bios version (A15).
They all pass the onboard diagnostics.
Motherboard, CPU and heatsink already replaced.
What can we do to solve this problem?

I tried the "fix" suggested in another thread (change the service "Windows Driver Foundation" to Automatic from Manual) and it works for awhile. However, I have made the change several times since the Event Warning comes back after a few days. Anybody got a way to make the "Automatic" stick. Windows 8.1 seems to have a need make it "Manual"!

Answer:Driver WUDFRd failed to load - Event ID 219

It should be set to manual w/trigger so that is not the solution to your issue (whatever that is):

I received my xps 13 very recently and occasionally the screen would turn black and the " windows was not properly shut down " error would appear. I looked at the BIOS logs and it turned out to be ASF2 force off error. I did the f12 diagnostics, both short and long one and there were no hardware problems found. In 3 days, it happened at least 4-5 times.
I upgraded all my drivers and have also reset windows 10 once. I have no idea what to do next, this issue is surely ruining my experience with this lovely looking machine. Any help or advice is appreciated.

Thank You.

Answer:XPS 13 9360 2017 ASF2 force off

Not to hijack your post but I've the same laptop same issue... and I'm loosing my mind trying to figure this out. I've read it may be an issue with Intel's power management or the BIOS but I'm running dry on sources/options.

This person here has an ASF2 issue and it seems to be linked to dropbox. I'm not using dropbox but I am using googles backup and sync... and It seems to restart when I'm doing something that's syncing a ton.

We have several of this model experiencing this problem. Symptoms are the unit just powers down as if all power is removed. Nothing in eventviewer other than "system experienced and unexpected shut down". The only report I can find on this problem is in BIOS - Power logs "Power off - ASF2 force off" I have even had this happen whilst looking in the BIOS, so it's not an OS issue.
My understanding is the ASF stands for Alert Standard Format, which is built inot the firmware of (usually) network interfaces for business class machines. It is use for the OS absent remote control of machines by th IT deparment.
What I'd like to know is... What can be done to prevent this from happening? and What is happening to trigger the power off response in the ASF2 firmware? Any help would be gratefully recieved as I'd prefer to have some answers before going down any hardware swap out route.

Answer:E5430 Power off - ASF2 Force Off

I may have found the problem. When I got the machine the BIOS was onA15. I updated to A16 which changed nothing. Looking at another E5430 with A12 Bios, adnd there is a section under Sys Config in the BIOS of System Management. Withinn that is an ASF2 Option. On this latest machine, system management is disabled (including ASF2). Had no ASF problem with this machine. I'm downgrading the teh A16 bios to A12 to see if I can disable the ASF2 and see what happens. Watch this space...

For the past couple of days i have been having a problem where my computer just shuts down on its own and then turns back on again. It mostly happens when im launching or playing a game but a couple of times i was just on the desktop and it restarted. I have checked the event logs and it keeps saying this:

The driver \Driver\WudfRd failed to load for the device SWD\SensorsAndLocationEnum\LPSensorSWDevice.

I have searched all over the internet for the past couple of days and have found multiple answers (all of which didn't work). Some say its the psu and others say its the gpu. I personally think it was the windows update that i did three days ago because that was the day it started but i have yet to see anything online about a windows update causing this. I have already updated the graphics drivers and chipset drivers but it didn't change anything. Can someone just tell me whats going on because is just built this pc about 6 months ago and nothing like this has ever happened.

I get the following Warning, Event ID 219 in the System Log on each boot:

The driver \Driver\WUDFRd failed to load for the device {C5A047D8-CB5B-40E9-B9E3-316AB06B5A18}\WirelessKeyboardFilter\8&16310cd5&1&01.
The Event Log Online Help doesn't appear to be working anymore.
I was able to resolve these types of errors with the assistance of the Event Log Online Help in the past. Does anyone know the procedure to troubleshoot this error so it can be resolved?
Thank you for your assistance.

Windows 8.1 Pro x64 - please find the complete system log warning details below and a (related or not?) disk controller error below. Motherboard is an ASRock B75 Pro 3 with an Intel B75 Chipset.
I keep getting these warnings. I get them for all my Windows Portable Devices (disk drives) on boot up. Here are my disks:
Disk 0 on internal SATA 3 connector off an
ASMedia ASM1061 chip on motherboard (internal drive, but enumerated as removable) - Seagate ST100DM003-1CH162 D: data drive
Disk 1 on internal SATA 3 connector off the B75 chipset on motherboard (internal drive, not enumerated as removable - gives no warnings or errors - Seagate ST100DM003-1CH162 C: system drive (has Windows 8.1 OS on it)

Disk (2 or 3 - depends on order of USB connection) on external USB 3.0 connector off back I/O panel of motherboard - Seagate BlackArmor DAS35 USB device G: backup external hard drive
There are no symptoms other than another (probably unrelated) disk controller error (shown below). The controller error is on either drive 2 or 3, but never 0 or 1, so it is one of the external back up drives (the thumb drive or the BlackArmor drive).

Hello,
I've been experiencing multiple bluescreens daily and what's odd about them is they occur randomly while using many programs; however, I have noticed that they occur more frequently directly after opening a new tab, loading a new site or running a game (StarCraft II).
Looking through Event Viewer. I see a list of warnings and errors immediately prior to the BSOD. In chronological order:

9:07:18 PM CRITICAL- "The system has rebooted without cleanly shutting down first. This error could be caused if the system stopped responding, crashed, or lost power unexpectedly."

9:07:28 PM WARNING- "The driver \Driver\WUDFRd failed to load for the device USB\VID_0483&PID_2016\5&249af6f9&0&2."

9:07:42 PM ERROR- "The previous system shutdown at 9:05:49 PM on ‎7/‎13/‎2011 was unexpected."

9:07:44 PM ERROR- "The computer has rebooted from a bugcheck. The bugcheck was: 0x0000000a (0x0000099e0000007e, 0x0000000000000002, 0x0000000000000001, 0xfffff80002a92885). A dump was saved in: C:\Windows\MEMORY.DMP. Report Id: 071311-32869-01."

9:07:47 PM ERROR- "Audit events have been dropped by the transport. 0"

I also get this warning quite often:

Hello everyone,
So I think by now, this problem has already been reported several times. I hope in my post, I can try to collect all the previous posts and what I've learned from them and put it all in one post. Yes, the new Dell XPS 13 (9360) models is confirmed to have a persistent issue of randomly shutting down and attributing this issue to an "ASF2 Force Off” in the BIOS event logs.
I myself own a Dell XPS 13, and yes, it has the same issue. Here's what happened on my end: I bought a new Dell XPS 13 nontouchscreen with 8GB RAM on October 31, 2017. And it arrived and worked well for about a week before randomly shutting down for the first time. I thought it was just a one-time thing, so I kept using it. Turns out, it shut down again and again in randomly moments every hour or so for the next 2 days, so I know it is definitely an issue. I ran an F12 Hardware Diagnostic along in Thorough Test Mode and a Dell Hardware Diagnostic, and the results were that no hardware issues were found, so I know it’s not a hardware issue. I ran a virus-scan just to check that one off the list. Interestingly though, I ran a Dell "Repair" option in the F12 menu, and apparently, there were some unrepairable issues found. Anyways, I got sick and tired of the problem, so I wrote to Dell Customer Service, who replied by sending me a "replacement" model. Meanwhile, I looked at the BIOS event logs and turns out the problem was attributed to an ASF2 force ... Read more

ok so i literally tried every possible fix that i have found online and nothing works, iam really lost here and dont know what to do.

i have this annoying error every time in windows startup and at random or when i go into a game my pc will freeze.
i successfully completed furmark test twice at around max 74c and in game after a minute it will crash at 68c.

i had this sort of drivers issues before and i have no idea how i fixed it last time.
things that i have already tried:

-set windows driver foundation to manual and automatic (currently on automatic)
-system config clean boot - on windows startup the same error occurs (that means its Microsoft fault?)
- ddu in safe mode to remove nvidia drivers and install and older driver (didnt help)
-reinstall audio, usb, drivers through device manager
-check hdd and ssd for errors (nothing was found)
-nvidia control panel - prefer maximum performance (was on optimal power but it made no diffrence)
-clean registry and files with ccleaner
-uninstall printer
-uninstall 2 windows updates that happend today and yesterday

i have now a reset my pc option working again but even if i pick keep my files option it listing all my software and games so i will only do this as a last option.

WUDFPf (part of UMDF) did not load yet. After it does, Windows will start the device again.

Answer:Satellite C50D-A-12x crashes often - driver WudfRd

Hi

It looks like the driver / service WudfRd causes the system crash.
After googling around it seems that other people have had the similar system problems.

The WUDFRd is a service and it is called "Windows Driver Foundation - User-mode Driver Framework" which is also responsible for USB devices

I would recommend you to disconnect all the devices you had connected to the notebook?s USB ports. You should also uninstall all USB hubs which appear in device manager and then reboot the notebook.

You should also go into services .msc and look for Windows Driver Foundation - User-mode Driver Framework. Check the status of this service. Usually it should be set to manual.
Under "Status" it could be set to off.
If you pluggin a USB device the status change to "Started".

Try to changed the startup type to "Automatic". Then shut down the notebook and restart. Then check the status again to see if it would be still set to automatic.

I recommend you to test and to monitor the notebook functionality without connection of any USB devices. Then plugged in an USB device again and check if an error would appear or system would crash.

Slow booting. Really slow booting. Seems that using an SD card for ReadyBoot/ReadyBoost is causing the issue. But why?
On investigation, this only started happening back in November, which coincides with the install of KB2685813 UMDF 1.11 (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2685813).
Could be a bit buggy....

I'll uninstall the update and see if this solves the issue.

Hmm. Now that is interesting.
In my System event log I was getting an NTFS error (57: Failed to flush tlog). I didn't think it was from my HDD, so using diskpart, I ran a 'CLEAN ALL' on my SD card, then recreated the FS as exFAT (previously it was NTFS).
Seems to be working now, although I'm getting VDS Basic Provider errors (Unexpected failure. Error code:
[email protected]) "which can be safely ignored" (re: KB979391).
This begs the question: if it can be safely ignored, why is it raised in the first place?
Boot time is also restored to an acceptable timescale.

Hi! So, I don't know if this is the right section - please move this thread if there's somewhere more appropriate. Ultimately, my problem concerns keyboard drivers.

I'm running a few-months-old Toshiba laptop with Win 7 64. I'm trying to run DOSBox, and the program itself works. However, within DOSBos, there are several keys that aren't recognised: the \ key gives me ], the ] key gives me [, the right-shift doesn't work, etc. This wouldn't be a major problem except for the fact that \ is needed to do anything with the program, and one can't copy-paste into the program. To be clear, the keyboard works perfectly in every other program.

I Googled, and several other people have had this problem. Turns out all of them had some wonky keyboard drivers that come automatically with Vista/7, specifically ending with the number "109". I checked, and I too have this driver. The posted solution is to "force 'Microsoft eHome MCIR 109 Keyboard' to use HID Compatible device driver instead". (For reference, the discussions about the issue are here and here.)

So, ultimately, my question is... how do I do that? I've never messed around with my drivers before and I don't want my keyboard to just stop working. I'm led to understand that drivers are both very numerous and very specific: Where would I find the driver that I need to manually install? Does it matter, since the solution seems to be to remove that ... Read more

I have a Western Digital 1tb drive that has been sitting here basically dead for years now. The drive works perfectly fine when plugged into an XP machine, but not on my Win7 x64 machine. I am aware this is a known Win7 issue. But, when we had a bad storm, and a power-failure because of it, when I booted my computer back up, after restarting from safe mode, it suddenly recognized the drive. Great! Next time I rebooted, gone! Fast forward a while later, another storm, another power failure, another magical reappearance of the drive! This time I happened to notice in the sys tray windows said it was loading the driver. Interesting (may had said that the first time too, and I just didn't see it). Regular reboot later, drive again gone. . .

so, my question is, how do I manually load a driver?

I just recently bought a USB to serial (RS232) port adapter as well as a USB to
parallel (IEEE-1284) port adapter. I need them to connect a development
microprocessor board and debugger module to my laptop for one of my current
classes. The usb to serial adapter works great and does just what it is supposed to
do, which is to create a virtual serial COM port through USB. The parallel port
adapter however did not come with XP drivers, instead it relies on the native XP
driver "usbprint.sys", which works only if you want to install a parallel port
printer. I don't want to hook up a printer though, I just need it to create a
virtual LPT port so that the debugger can communicate with the software.

The driver cd came with drivers for Win 98/ME, however. I have inspected the .inf
files and I can tell for sure that they do what they are supposed to, by creating a
virtual port, not just printer support. I have tried everything I could to get XP
to use the 98 driver, but for some reason it won't let me update the driver to the
older one. The .inf file's version signature says "$CHICAGO$" which means it should
work on XP also, but windows tells me that it doesn't contain information about my
hardware (which is total bs). The USB vendor ID and product ID matches the device,
which is what really doesn't make sense as to why I would get that error.

So I what I need to know is if it is possible to disable the native xp driver

How do I do that in XP? I have a memory card reader that HAS to have specific drivers from a floppy I have. XP keeps automatically installing its crappy ones. I click Update Driver and choose the floppy ones but it says the ones installed are a better match. I know it can be done. How?

Answer:Force Driver Install

pay attention when it forces you to use the crappy driver
note its location, navigate to it, rename the driver
(just add "old" to the back before the extention)
then uninstall the device in device manager
Start > Run > (type) devmgmt.msc

then reinstall it, this time when it looks for the driver it wants it cant find it and you can make it eat the one you want

then go back and name the driver back to its original name, just in case you need it at some point

its never failed me yet, Ive had to do that for one of my NICards a couple dozen times
and it also doesnt "have" to be on a FDD it can be anywhere you like as long as you can navigate to it
I have a central repository of hardware drivers organized into a folder heirarchy
provided I have LAN access and the drive is mapped with that box I can grab them off the NAS itself
otherwise I generally employ a flash drive

I have a Toshiba laptop that has a Conexant audio subsystem. The sound system is misbehaving and I suspect a driver issue. Here is the problem: I was running windows 7 and upgraded via the free upgrade offer to Win 10. Everything worked OK for a while and then the problem with the audio system appeared. I checked the Toshiba website and they list no drivers for Win10. I cannot find enough specifics about the Conexant audio system on my laptop to get one from the Conexant website. (if they even have w10 drivers)

My question is: how can I force Windows 10 to download and install a win10 compatible driver for the audio subsystem? Aside from going into the Device Manager and finding the device, how can I find out what driver MS is installing for the Conexant device?
Thanks
J

Answer:How to force W10 in (re)install a driver from the MS repositiory for W

Hi, rt click properties, Driver in device manager should show the version, and Driver Details more.

If you want to force a complete reinstall, then in device manager, when uninstalling the driver, tick the check box to also delete it. Then reboot.

Downloading from the manufacturer's site carries the usual caveat of it not being fully compatible for laptops, but it has certainly helped me in a couple of instances.

Soyo k7vme motherboard, AMD Athlon 2100+ processor, 768MB ram, XP home. Hello again. My computer is not loading the NIC driver at startup, only on restart. When I start up...no network adapter icons, no network adapter in device manager, no connection to the internet. When I restart it's all good. Every time. I've tried bios update, network adapter update, bootvis, virus scans...the works. Nothing is helping so far. I got a bootlog of both the startup (no network adapter) and the restart (with network adapter) and did a line by line comparison of the two. The only difference is that on the restart a driver was loaded that was not loaded on the initial startup. fetnd5bv.sys. Googled it and found that it is indeed a network driver, but even with the latest (I've tried previous also) version it still will not load on the first startup. Is there some way I can force this driver to load every time? Modify system.ini or boot.ini? I've been dealing with this for some time now and it's starting to drive me nuts. All help is appreciated!

I recently downloaded the latest version of the Intel HD Family Graphics but when I attempt to install it I get the following messages:

On the .exe installation: 'Your computer does not meet the minimum requirements." and "Your system is not supported".

On the .zip: 'Your driver is up to date.' However it's v8...

I've read somewhere that you can 'force update it' or are there any better options?
If not, how can I force update?

Did you perhaps download a x64 version of the driver instead of x86, or vice versa?

when i go to dxdiag==display==it says=nvidia geforce 4 mx 440 with agp8x, then, main driver=nv4_disp.d11 version 6.13.10.4072{english}.Now,when i try to play battlfield 1942, it all starts ok, but when i jump from a ship into a landing craft, everthing freezes--lock's up, i cant do anything but turn the computer off. my computer is a new advent pentium 4 2.8 ect from pc world, i'm thinking although new, i may need to up date the driver for my card. i've been to the nvidia site, but for the love of me, can't understand what driver i should have ect ect.Anyone help please?. my op/system is win xp. cheers, jar jar.

Answer:how do i update driver/s for nvidia g/force 4

Try this method JAR JAR BLINK'S:Open Control Panel/System/Device Manager select your card then select Properties in the properties window click the Driver Tab then the "Update Driver" button. You should then be connected direct to the site to get your driver. Before doing this though note down the current driver number to see if there is a newer version.

So I bought this TV tuner
Newegg.com - Leadtek TV2000XP RM Tuner Card with Remote Control PCI Interface - Retail

Come to find out, there are no drivers for 64 bit. So, I tried going to device manager and pointing it to the folder where the drivers are located but it keeps failing to install immediately. It doesn't even act like it's trying.

They have 64 bit drivers for a model that's similar to this one, but it keeps failing to install immediately for those too. The drivers they provide are all INF files. Any idea how I can force these drivers to install to see if I can get it working? I'll be pretty ticked if I can't get this thing to work.

Answer:How do I force a 32 bit driver to install on 64 bit Vista?

No you can not force 32 Bit drivers to install on 64 Bit. If you are lucky you might be able to convert them. But you can not force isntall them.

I have a HP Pavilion dv7, the latest Radeon driver from HP is version 8.
The laptop is plenty powerful to run later games, but needs a driver update for the video to play them properly. Version 13 is current.
i.e. Firefall tech support says to install the latest ATI drivers to solve some issues. New drivers are not available from HP and the stock ATI drivers refuse to install on the HP hardware.
Is there a way to force install?
If I cannot update the drivers I will toss the laptop and buy new, but I would like to give newer drivers a try on the chance they would work.

If it has hybrid graphics, do not install the reference driver.

Hey guys I am on windows 7 (home prem so cant do the group fix), atheros AR9285 802.11b/g/n and trying to install a different driver for it (net card)

Everytime i try to install the driver windows says they have the most up to date one and i cant force install. I have spent hours reading and have manually selected windows updates. I have backed up drivers and uninstalled the driver and tried to install but windows seems to find a way of getting the old driver.

I have also installed programs to override windows verification of drivers etc.... tried a lot and spent hours!! I have searched threads here and elsewhere and tried all people say but still windows thinks it is helpful...

Does any one have experience in how to do this as it is driving me insane!
Endlessly going on tangents to do something i thought would be simple and a bit of intellectual curiousity!
thanks a lot in advance!

Hello, I have a microphone that needs the Generic USB Audio driver, and it displays it as malfunctioned(I heard from some people that it usually does that at first with this kind of mic), so I went ahead and tried to use the update driver function. I went ahead and into browse drivers, unchecked compatible drivers only, and looked for the Generic USB audio driver. It wasn't where I thought it would be on the manufacturer menu, so I looked through them all. It wasn't there. I tried using the search for driver in x location by grabbing the Generic USB Audio driver file from my windows directory and placing it in a new folder, then setting it to look in the new folder. Didn't work. I've searched quite a little bit for a solution and even asked aforementioned people how to fix it. Everything told me to do the first thing I did. I tried each step again. I tried unplugging the mic then plugging it back in then trying again. No luck. So, now I'm desperate, considering my voice is my job, and MY computer my workplace. Could someone please help me with this? I'm even up for directly editing files related to this I'm so desperate.

Answer:How do I force windows to use a driver it doesn't list?

Who manufactured the mic? Have you tried downloading the driver from their site and installing fresh?
You might have to uninstall first in Device manager. It sounds as though you know how to get there since you tried update driver.
I think the generic usb audio driver is dependent on other services - you can check those inside device mgr (or maybe inside services) - look at dependencies and see if those services are running

I've upgraded a pretty new Sony VAIO latop to Windows 8.

Generally happy, but have hit a problem with the Graphics Card - basically failing to run Minecraft as it can't access Open GL mode.

The card is a ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5000. The driver is 8.97.10.6, dated 19/06/12.

I've tried Windows Update, Sony support site driver, AMD/ATI drivers - latest, beta & legacy. I either get told there is some 'compatability error' or that the driver is up to date already. Nothing works.

(I had previously noticed that I'm getting no picture from DVDs, no doubt related to this.)

Thanks,
Heeb

Hello, since this is my first post here I should explain that I am fairly capable with computers, I'm half way through a software development diploma so I know most of the jargon and know how to do most things.

My problem is that when I start up the computer, it will allow me to load into a user account, but will always just cut off completely after about 5 - 10 seconds (presumably after it loads something it doesn't like.) If I leave it on the user select menu for too long it will also cut off.

It began after windows reported a corrupt driver that it managed to "recover" from, I had to restart the computer due to lag, after that it would no longer function properly.

I can't fully recall the name of the driver however there is an attached file with my laptops drivers. I'm not sure why there is an exe file in there, could this be the cause?

Anyway I'm in safemode with networking at the moment and things are running fine.

Thankyou very much for taking the time to look through my post, I would very much appreciate help :)

Answer:Computer will force shut down upon loadingdesktop (Possible driver problem)

Uninstall AVG Anti-Virus with the AVG Remover and restart into Normal Mode. If that fails try doing a Clean Boot. Then add one item at a time until you find the culprit.
Once the computer stays on, install Microsoft Security Essentials.

I have a dell Vostro 3500 which was released early 2010. The windows 10 upgrade app tells me I cannot upgrade to windows 10 because of the NVidia GeForce 310m driver is not compatible.
I also have an inspiron 1545 released late 2008 this can be upgraded to windows 10.
I have looked into this driver issue as I have been running windows 8.1 on the Vostro 3500 laptop for sometime. However the graphics driver sometimes crashes and has to recover. While this is useable it is not ideal.
In order to run windows 8.1 I had to download and install the old XP 64bit driver and run it in compatibility mode and as administrator. This took some effort and messing about to get it to work as well as it does.
However I have tried to install windows 10 preview on the system it will not let me install at all so I cannot even get to the point where I can try the windows XP driver. When I try to install directly on this system.
However I did install windows 10 preview on a different dell laptop the is compatible and them moved the hard drive into the Vostro 3500 to see what would happen.
Windows 10 worked on the laptop except for the GeForce 310m which had a exclamation mark in device manager. and it too sometimes crashed and had to recover
This is telling me the only thing stopping this laptop running windows 10 is the lack of a dell GeForce 310m driver

Answer:Vostro 3500 NVidia ge-force 310m windows 10 driver

Hello
there is a work around for this problem. go into your device manager, select Display adapters.
where you see Nvidia go into it and click on the driver tab. at the bottom uninstall the driver, remove it completely.
your screen will go black and flash but don't worry, it comes back in 640x480 ( hehe )
restart the laptop, you will now have no drivers at all. come back to dell.com and download the video driver again, you are looking for this file only R287485.exe
www.dell.com
/support/home/us/en/04/Drivers/DriversDetails?driverId=XNK27&fileId=2731099326&osCode=W764&productCode=vostro-3500&languageCode=EN&categoryId=VI
these are the Intel HD video drivers and are more stable then the Nvidia drivers too.
Happy Windows 10 dude.

Force Feedback loses some effects with default driver supplied with vista ultimate 32bit after roughly 2+ effects are applied at once. (it happens in multiple racing games) I have noticed that it shows steer Left/Right and accelerate as X/Y axis but brake is listed as Z axis. Shouldn't force feedback be tagged as Z axis? I have tested the controller with xp and the same games and the controller works fine with the default xp driver. Sidewinder software wont install on vista so i can't load any different drivers to check if this is the issue. Note: In the default xp driver it lists left/right/brake/accel. as x/y and z as feedback. Any ideas?

I tried to update my older Radeon ATI 5450 GPU via windows update...

I received the message from windows update, and showed it failed update with the 0x800706be

However when I go to device manager and check the details of the installed driver it clearly shows the new updated version? So I wonder which is correct the device manager showing the new version of the driver or windows update?

Answer:Failed Update 0x800706be driver...but device mgr shows updated driver?

You can identify the problem using Device Manager, which you can access by:
Opening the Control Panel Window
Selecting and double-clicking System
Clicking Device Manager
In Device Manager check if there is an exclamation point, a yellow triangle, or a question mark against your Dell device. If there is, there is a problem with your Dell device.

So... Before anyone tells me to send it to Logitech for repairs, I should mention that there are none that I know of in my area, and I'm not willing to pay R300 (ZAR) postage to send a big box 600km away to get my wheel 'checked'. Other than that, it's already nearly 3 years old and way out of warranty...

Now, onto the finer details. The force feedback suddenly stopped working one day a few months back. There was no funny smell or smoke or unusual amount of heat, etc.. Anyways, long story short: I suspect the motor is the culprit here, I can't see any damage or burn marks on the IC boards..

A Google search for the details on the side of the motor returns nothing even remotely related to Logitech or electronics in general, so I'm hoping someone can help point me in the right direction here.

Markings on the side:

The * above is a symbol, almost like a logo, but I don't recognise it... I've redrawn it in Paint (see attached), perhaps someone else knows it...? Other than that, I've also attached a photo of the motor with a CD beneath it for a size reference.

I don't play racing games enough to warrant buying a new wheel, and everything else on the wheel still works, I simply don't have any force feedback and the wheel obviously doesn't center itself anymore (no springs, all done with the motor). If anybody can help point me in the right direction with looking for a way to either test / repair / replace this motor, I would be eter... Read more

Hello everyone!

I am looking for information on a issue I have when I open Delta Force Task Force Dagger.

The game will actually open two instances of itself, I will be able to play in the one that pops up but when I click on the Exit button there is still a instance on the start bar. I have to maximize that then it goes back into the game which at that point I have to click the exit button again and then the program is closed.

I checked on Novalogic's web site support and even emailed them but no resolve either way.

Thanks in advance for any help!

Question: WLAN/WUDFRd issue

I mistakenly posted this problem in hardware instead of software, sorry for the cross post.

I run a small computer lab of 10 Dell Lattitude E6500s running Windows 7 x 64 Enterprise. They connect to a ZyXEL ZyWALL 2WG for internet/network access.

I have a recurring problem on all the machines (they are virtually identical in terms of OS, software and configuration). Randomly anyone of the computers will drop off the network.

I looked into the event log and I see the same recurring series of errors/warnings on all the machines.

First I get a "WLAN Extensibility Module has stopped. Module Path: C:\Windows\System32\bcmihvsrv64.dll" 10002 warning from WLAN-AutoConfig. Then I get a "WLAN AutoConfig service has successfully stopped." 4001 warning from WLAN-AutoConfig. Then finally I get a "The driver \Driver\WUDFRd failed to load for the device USB\VID_0A5C&PID_5800&MI_01\6&66de6c9&0&0001." 219 warning from Kernel-PnP.

bcmihvsrv64.dll (Broadcom Independent Hardware Vender Service 64) is part of the driver for the wireless adapter and 6&66de6c9&0&0001 is a reference to my smart card reader.

Before I checked the Event Viewer I thought I might be having a firewall problem, but disabling the fire wall didn't change anything.

I also thought it might be a Network Discovery problem, so I tried turning off the "Computer Browser" service and changing my NetBIOS Over TCP name resolution nodetype ... Read more

I also thought it might be a Network Discovery problem, so I tried turning off the "Computer Browser" service and changing my NetBIOS Over TCP name resolution nodetype to broadcast via regedit.

I have updated the driver for the wireless adapter to the ... Read more

Hi, I have a Vista Ultimate x64bit OS and I am receiving a BSOD with the WUDFrd.sys error. The night before I installed iTunes 7.7 (most recent) and sync'd music.

I googled the WUDFrd.sys and noticed that the people who had it also referred to iTunes as the source of the problem.

Can anyone who have 64bit Vista tell me if they have any trouble with iTunes?

How can I uninstall iTunes if the BSOD keeps popping up before windows can start.

Answer:Vista x64bit WUDFrd.sys BSOD

Start Windows in safe mode and uninstall iTunes from there.

I haven't had any issues, but I haven't upgraded my iTunes in quite a while on that machine either.

The driver \Driver\WudfRd failed to load for the device SWD\WPDBUSENUM\{7701c354-960c-11e5-9bc2-806e6f6e6963}#0000000000100000.

Answer:random crashes WudfRd event 219 help please ?

Hi animeowns,

Welcome to the 10forums.

The 5v is 10.200. What are the values of the 3.3v and 12v?

The nvidia video drivers have been flagged, unknown from what GPU as you have 2 titan x GPU's.
This could well be due to the power issue.

Code:
*** WARNING: Unable to verify timestamp for nvlddmkm.sys
*** ERROR: Module load completed but symbols could not be loaded for nvlddmkm.sys

Hey, i just set up my new u310 with windows 8 and it worked fine. Then i realised, that on startup it takes about 4-10 minutes to search for wifi and i began struggeling around with things... deinstalled some drivers, reinstalled them again, just to see which drivers collide because the wifi service didnt start on startup. Then i saw a message on my system which was timed around the startup time and it said "The driver \Driver\WUDFRd failed to load for the device ROOT\LENOVOVHID\0000.". I looked it up on the internet and i saw that few people had the same problems with the long startup and similar things... so i just deinstalled the "Windows Driver Package - Lenovo WuDFRd Drivers" to reinstall a newer version or something like that.... but problem is, Where can i find this Driver package? I just cant find it. Will the startup problem be solved with a new installation of these drivers? Please help me

Hi, recently I've been having problems on my new laptop, when it goes to sleep after being idle for a time. The screen stays blank despite the HDD working, etc. I found that these errors were being caused by WUDFRd.sys, located in C:\windows\system32\drivers.

I have tried deleting the driver, to see if that fixes the problem, but windows will not allow me to delete it, or change permissions. Presumably it considers the driver to be essential, but how can this be if it's causing these problems? Te driver is digitally signed by Microsoft, so surely it must be safe? I do not know if it is related to BSOD problems I'm having from ew_jubusenum.sys, installed with an internet dongle I purchased in Italy (HUAWEI mobile partner), or if it is a completely separate problem.

Please, can somebody help mw with this, as it's driving me a little nuts. I only just got the laptop a month ago, so would love to have it running smoothly!

Answer:WUDFRd.sys Causing Errors Awakening From Sleep

I think WUDFRd.sys is an UDF filesystem driver Windows uses to read CDs/DVDs formatted as UDF. It shouldn't normally give you any trouble, but you can disable this driver through Device Manager, most likely it will be located under Non-Plug and Play Drivers. Note that you will first have to enable Show hidden devices in the View menu.

As you're already found out, you can't simply delete .sys driver files since they're referenced through the registry. Device Manager lets you disable or uninstall them. (Of course uninstalling is permanent and should be used very carefully)

Hi everyone,

Im experiencing a strange BSOD and Im desperate, please check out my problem and try to give me some advice cause Im running out of options.

My system, which has been working flawlessly for some months until yesterdary:

Intel Core 2 Duo 6850, 3GHZ
ASUS Striker Extreme, latest BIOS (1305)
4 x 1GB OCZ 800 Platinum Rev.2
2 x GeForce 8800 GTS 640 (latest nvidia drivers)
Termaltake Toughpower 750W
2 x Optical Drive
1 x Western Digital Raptor X 150G
1 x Seagate Barracuda 7200 400G
1 x Maxtor 150 GB
Standar mouse and KB
Vista Home Premium 64
Kaspersky Antivirus 7.0
COMODO Firewall Pro

On original installation, the problematic hardware was: the MOBO (Striker Extreme boasts a wipping collection of annoyances with RAM, SATA connections and VISTA) and the 4 GB - Vista INstallation Issue. It took me a while to figure out things, but I finally managed to get everything up and running, for some months now, until yesterday.

Yesterday's Hardware Upgrade:

Additional 1 x Western Digital Raptor X 150 GB
Logitech G15 Keyboard (and drivers)
Logitech G9 Mice (no drivers needed)

So, I get these three upgrades on my machine, start up normally. When Windows starts loading (horizontal bar with green "minibar" moving from left to rigth), Blue Screen with "Windows has shut down to prevent damage on your computer" (STOP 0X000000-dont remember final number), pointing WUDFRd.sys as the error. It starts countdown with something like "D... Read more

Answer:Strange BSOD-WUDFRd.sys boot failure (long)

It is the installation ofthe G15 drivers that gives you this error.

Try the following steps:

Start Windows Vista 64 in safe mode

Click on the SYSTEM icon in the Control Panel

Click on DEVICE MANAGER

Click on SYSTEM DEVICES under DEVICE MANAGER

Scroll down to WINDOWS SIDEBAR and delete G15 Gaming Keyboard.

Restart Windows and download the new G15 Drivers from Logitech. The latest are Version 2.02.101 (December 21st 2007).

Make sure you download the Multilingual Vista 64 bit Drivers.
