Preferred Solution: Lenovo X230 Unknown device drivers

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer:Lenovo Solution Center Shows Unknown Device But Device Manager Doesn't

Hi,

Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!

I?m sorry to inform that it is a false indication from Lenovo solution center. Since Windows doesn?t detect any missing device drivers within the device manager, there is no driver that is missing.
If the warning keeps popping up, change the reminder settings to ?never?. Probably, you have to wait for an LSC update in which the bug would be fixed.

Refer here for further information regarding the issue.

Hope it helped!

Best regards,
Mithun.

Title is a little misleading, my apologies.
There is indeed one unknown device, its unknown to me. And a little googling didn't help me uncover the mystery.
The second issue with a driver is probably going to be simple for someone else, but searching through the website has only served to confuse me. I can't find the books to give any more information than what I provide. (Screen shot below) The devise is a power box come surge protector. I could take a picture if necessary. I have a disc but the drivers wont load into Windows 7.
I'm not savvy with computer talk so please forgive a girl for being vague, if I am at all. You can throw the book at me or hit me with a wet noodle if necessary
But thanks for any help

Well, once again, I spend two days tring to solve a problem, then finally post here, out of desperation--hardware this time, a pci device that just won't run or act right...I just put a new motherboard in this tower, an ASUS P5GC-MX/133, w/a Pentium D, and I actually had an easy run w/microsoft, on my HD w/XPpro installed, which was good...but then I ran the ASUS cd, downloading the drivers, had some problems w/audio driver, still doesn't quite work, and when I google this device ID, it does seem to be audio related...so anyway, I did search on majorgeeks, found similar problem, so I removed all realtek stuff from programs, and then reinstalled drivers...

Still no audio, plus, even more agravating to me, I keep getting the "new hardware installed" crap, and I've tried running it every way I can, to get the right drivers, but no deal, and have that PCI device w/the yellow question mark...

Obviously I'm self-taught, in my fifties, and haven't got a clue what to do...have already been to ASUS site, to "Device Manager" and ran thru the wizard, trying to find drivers, both on cd, on internet...but I'm lost, need help...I'm enclosing the Device ID, and I also downloaded an "Unkown Device Identifier" which I'm still trying to sort out...

No advice is too "low level", and I'm sure I've missed something, so any help is much appreciated..meanwhile, I'll try removing and reinstalling ... Read more

Hi, all.

I recently installed the RC build 7100 (64-bit) onto a Lenovo Z61p laptop. Everything seems to be proceeding normally ... however, there is one thing that I do not understand ...

The Device Manager shows a device that is not recognized. It is a "Mass Storage Controller" and the location is "PCI bus 21, device 0, function 2" and no other meaningful information whatsoever.

Can someone help with any information about this? What is it and what driver should I use to enable it (or not)? Etc.,

Thanks!

Greetings! I bought an E531 a few days ago, installed a windows 7 on it, and download & install all the required drivers for it. The only problem is, that in the device manager it shows that i did not installed that pci device.Do you know what is it, and where is the download link for it? Everything works fine, i have sound, i have internet connection via cable and wireless as well (altough the ubuntu 13.04 version is not able to see any wireless networks, which is not the best.). Thanks in advance,Gerron

Answer:Lenovo E531 unknown pci device

Hi Gerron,

Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!

I?m really sorry to hear that you were not able to locate PCI drivers for your Lenovo E531.

First of all, you need to find the Hardware ID of the device for which you need the drivers.

 1. Right click on the device that you need to identify, then choose properties.
 2. Once you have the properties Window, Click on the details tab.
 3. On the details tab, Choose Hardware ID on the Property Drop down box.

Spoiler (Highlight to read)
Eg: PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_10F5&SUBSYS_20EE17AA&REV_03

Go to PCI DATABASE and enter the DEV value into the device search. Find the matching VEN value from the results and that would be the exact driver you require for your system.

Below is the link to enter downloads page and install the drivers.

?             Support Drivers & Software downloads

Please click on "QUICK PATH?, enter E531 and select the exact model depending on the MTM number of your device.

Hope this helps!

Best regards,
Mithun.

You should be able to use this driver:

SP3 doesn't support HD audio. This will help it install with out uninstalling and re-installing SP3
This patch is required before any of the HD device drivers are installed
1. On your PC change the CSDVersion registry key to XP SP2:
HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Windows\CSDVersion value=200
2. Restart your PC
3. Install HD_Audio/kb888111xpsp2.exe
4. Change the CSDVersion key back to XP SP3 again:
HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Windows\CSDVersion value=300
5. Restart your PC, finalize configuration of your PC, sysprep and capture.

Directions:
Goto Start>Run and type in regedit , then click OK.
Click the plus signs in front of HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE>SYSTEM>Current Control Set>Control, and finally, click Windows.
In the right panel you will see CSDVersion.
Right click it, choose Modify.
In the highlighted input window, you should see 300. Change it to 200.
Click OK, close regedit and restart your PC. Windows will now think it is SP2 and allow you to install the UAA and your HD audio driver.
Make sure to reboot and then test your sound BEFORE, changing the value back to 300.

Then follow the same steps to change it back to SP3. Change the 200 back to 300.

I would be grateful for any help.

Ok, my problem is solved, by an accident. I was cleaning my external disc when I found folder with drivers to Win7 64bit. I looked through them and install, to try, driver named "ENE CIR Driver (Remote Controller)". After successful installation I saw that uknown device from device manager disappeared. I'm writing it to others who maybe got the same problem! See you, thank you!Krystian

Have these above drivers missing -  managed to solve PCI Simple Communication Device missing driver by downloading  some drivers from HP Support and running these from 'command prompt (Admin)' with them running in Win 7 compatability Mode.  What driver(s) do I need to run to overcome this or where else should I look to resolve.

Answer:Win 10 PCI Serial Port & PCI Unknown Device Drivers misiing

Hi: For the PCI Serial Port you need this driver... This package contains the Intel Local Management Service (LMS) and Serial-over-LAN (SOL) support for Intel Active Management Technology (AMT) for the supported desktop models and operating systems. This software is part of the Intel Digital Office Initiative. ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp46001-46500/sp46134.exe Please post the hardware ID for the PCI Unknown device you are missing the driver for. To find the hardware ID, go to the device manager and click on the unknown device needing the driver. Then click on the Details tab at the top of the device window. Now you will see a Property drop down list, and it will be set to Device Description. Drop down on that list and select the 3rd item (Hardware ID's). Post the top string of characters that you see in the window.

Answer:Unknown device in Lenovo Solution Center Helix

Lenovo Solution Center currently has a bug that happens on systems with touchscreens, it shows an unknown device like you say, even though there isn't anything wrong.

There is supposedly an update to LSC coming this week or next, it should fix this bug.

And there is something you can do about it, click on the "remind me" option and then select "never", then LSC won't bug you about this non-issue anymore.  Sorry for this inconvenience caused by LSC.

Hi Hanss,

Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!

The hardware ID you have given points to TPM module of your device. The BIOS item for Intel Platform Trust Technology is there for the benefit of the Windows 8.1 security requirements. Since you are using Windows 7, you can safely disable it in BIOS.

Hope this helps!

I just installed Windows 8.1 Pro 64-bit on my Lenovo Y40-80 and am going through the process of updating the drivers. I downloaded all the drivers from the Lenovo support page (http://support.lenovo.com/us/en/products/laptops-and-netbooks/lenovo-y-series-laptops/y40-80), but am still left with an unknown PCI device in the device manager. Its hardware ID is "ACPI\VEN_VPC&DEV_2004". I did a google search for this ID and came across a lot of forum topics stating that this can be fixed by installing the Lenovo Energy Management software, however, no such software exists for the Y40-80. Does anyone have any ideas on fixing this? Thank you for any help.

From my knowledge the Dev_ID 8086 belongs to Intel

It's ACPI\LEN4002. Googling that returns integrated displays for Thinkpad monitors so that doesn't seem to be the right thing here. I've already installed the chipset driver, the Intel haswell/vga driver, AMT, MEI, Lenovo Application Interface driver (LBAI, ACPI\LEN4001) It's not the Intel WIDI driver either. I upgraded to Windows 10 a while back. Every time I open the computer I get a pop-up notification telling me the USB device is unrecognized. I have no USB devices in any of my 3 USB ports.
I sent my computer in twice. No help. They just uninstalled everything and reinstalled everything and told me it should be fixed. It is not. I then went about updating every driver in my Device Manager. I uninstalled the Unknown USB Device and then updated
other drivers. Certain drivers (such as PCI Express Root Port #3 - 9C14) when updating would also reinstall the Unknown USB Device, which I would then uninstall and keep working down the list. At the end of updating EVERYTHING I scanned for hardware changes
and "found" the Unknown USB Device.
From what I can tell, and I know very little about this stuff, my computer can't name one of my USB ports. Since it can't figure out what it's called it can't download the proper driver for it. Since it can't download the proper driver it can't work properly.
The practical result from this is that one of my three USB ports does nothing when I put in any USB item (connect my android phone, thumb drive, presentation clicker, etc).
I've looked on tons of forums. My current thought is that if I can tell my computer what the deice is or download the right driver and tell my computer to use that driver for this device it should solve my issue. But I don't know how to know what the name
of the USB port should be (I imagine it woul... Read more

Where can I find the missing drivers? 2) The second problem is probably related to the first.Everytime I start the laptop I get a usb device sound right after the startup even though I don't have anything plugged into the usb ports. So I'm guessing it's trying to connect to the peripheral devices... Did anyone here have the same problem or can help me solve this? Thank you in advance! Kind regards Jens

Answer:Lenovo G500s Bluetooth Peripheral Device Drivers missing

hi Jens,

Welcome to the Lenovo Forums.

Regarding your concerns:
1. From this link  that hardware ID is pointing to a Bluetooth Hands-free Audio Gateway by Broadcom.

Since you already installed the Bluetooth driver, can you try one of the following:
a. Navigate to the C:\Drivers\Bluetooth\Broadcom and run the setup.exe file to re-install the Broadcom Bluetooth Driver
b. Follow this guide on how to manually install the BTHENUM device driver (point the driver to the  C:\Drivers\Bluetooth\Broadcom folder).
c. Install the WIDCOMM Bluetooth Software

2. If you have a bluetooth headset / speaker that was previously connected before, it's possible that these devices are automatically pairing themselves to the machine everytime you restart. Try to check if installing the Bluetooth driver in problem #1 resolves the issue.

Found out that in order for the Windows 10 installation to detect the PCIe SSD, you have to go into the BIOS and change the SATA Controller Mode to AHCI.  Now that only leaves the Wacom drivers having a code 10 and the missing touch screen drivers.

IBM ThinkCentre A50 8320-7EG, Windows XP

Just reformatted and reinstalled, lists the ethernet, audio and video as 'unknown devices' (ethernet at least definately worked fine before reformat). All integrated with the motherboard.

Have tried to install drivers from the disk, downloaded from the IBM website and from driver packs but nothing has had any effect, using the wizard it won't recognise any drivers, installing the alleged drivers manually it says they have installed on the installation wizard thing, but nothing's changed with the device in device manager.

I assume somehow I must have the wrong drivers, but not sure how this could be the case, or really what else I can try.

Thanks very much for any help!!

Hi. I was just given a Lenovo 3000 n100 (prod. i.d.# - 97684JU) laptop that had crashed. If I can fix it, it's mine. Yay!

Problem: Keyboard does not work. It has a fresh install of XP with Service pack 2 - which I believe was taken off a disk labelled XP Pro Svc pk 2, w/sata drivers for gateway - key preloaded - which was in dvd drive.

In device manager under other devices there is a list of devices marked as uninstalled drivers -
3 base system devices,
fingerprint sensor,
foxconn bluetooth 2.0 plus EDR,
Network Controller
PCI Device
SM Bus Controller
Video Controller
Video Controller (VGA Compatible)

The registered to in properties of My Computer has all the symbols for two lines. I have figured by trial and error that the keyboard is not working. USB keyboard and mouse do work.

I have a XP Pro cd, version 2002, unopened that I can use to reinstall the operating system - however this one I believe is for a compaq/hp pc.

My question: should I download all Lenovo drivers to a flash drive, and do I need anything special during install?

will computer recognize usb keyboard and mouse if i am formatting and reinstalling opsys?

I am thinking that maybe with the disk they used that may be the reason why the keyboard does not work.

Or can I just install the drivers needed from the lenovo site, and then fix the "registered to" and "users" in the registry?

what would be my best bet here?

thanks for the help here.

Hello everyone. So my lenovo g550 webcam stopped working after I did a clean install of windows 7 home. When I go under device manager I do not see any unknow devices. When I also go to show hidden devices it is not there. Could anyone give me information about how to fix this and if the cable to the webcam might be broken. If so, is there a way I could convert the webcam's pin outs to usb to test it. I have split an old usb cable into four colored spots. Not sure if i want to test it though. That would be my last resort. If needbe, can you tell me the pin outs for the webcam. It has five connectors. The reason I know this is usb is because my older installation on windows 7 detected it and said that the usb could be faster. Thanks.

Hi All, I know other people have posted similar issues but this one doens't match any other so I'll ask the community for help. I have an X230 running WinXP, and I cannot find a way to add a Bluetooth device to the computer. The latest bluetooth driver for XP is installed. The Bluetooth is enabled in the BIOS. The Bluetooth icon is in the systray. It is Red. All I can do is right click on it - it says "Bluetooth Device not found".In My Computer, the My Bluetooth places icon doesn't do anything when I click it other than create a shortcut on my Desktop. When I click the Desktop shortcut, it only runs a Bluetooth file transfer wizard sugessting Bluetooth is working. I cannot find an add device bluetooth wizard anywhere. Can anyone help? Thanks.

Hi guys, I recently bought the x230 - it's awesome. I also purchased a ssd along with it and replaced the defaultt hdd with the ssd and made a Windows 7 clean install. I have 2 questions: - which drivers are REALLY essential for my device? Viewing the drivers page, there are A LOT of drivers that can be installed, but I reckon some of these are not really necessary as I don't want to slow my superfast x230. - is there a way to download ALL drivers at once instead one by one? Thank you in advance, Mustafa

Answer:Which drivers are REALLY necessary for the x230?

Hello and welcome,

I can't tell you which drivers are necessary for what you want to do, but the easiest way to get them is to install ThinkVantage System Update.  Run it and it will present all the appropriate drivers for download and installation.

You can examine the details of each before downloading and decide which ones you want.  Just mark the check box for  the ones you want and let TVSU download and install them at one whack.

[edit] This is a pure opionion, based on nothing much but my own preference:  I'd rather live with the Lenovo install for a while and see what I like - then uninstall the stuff I don't.   IMNSHO, the initial bloat isn't all that bad on a ThinkPad.  OTOH, depending on the size of the SSD, a clean install may be the way to go.

hey manugautam000,welcome to the forums, disable to camera from device manager and remove the current driver installed to it.reboot your unit, re-enable the camera. windows should then install its own generic drivers.test your camera with the generic drivers.later on, head to http://support.lenovo.com , download the latest camera driver for your unit. set your unit to diagnostic mode via msconfig and then install.

I was just working happily when my Microsoft Bluetooth Mouse just suddenly stopped working.
The Bluetooth settings page says "Bluetooth is turned off" and there are no options on the settings page or the system tray to turn Bluetooth on.
The Device Manager now has "Unknown USB device - device descriptor request failed" where it did not before.
Other devices all seem to be working fine - USB devices plugged in are being recognized and work properly. Only BT seems to be broken.
I've tried:
uninstalling the device and rebooting
installing the latest updated chipset drivers from the dell website
windows updates
pretty much all of the advice here: http ://troubleshooter.xyz/wiki/fix-usb-device-not-recognized-device-descriptor-request-failed

Any other ideas?
Thanks

Answer:XPS 15 9550 Bluetooth stopped working (Unknown USB device - device descriptor request failed)

So in desperation I just went into BIOS settings to see if there are any BT settings that may have become disabled. I didn't see any, and I didn't change any other settings.
After rebooting, BT and my mouse is now working again.
Something seems to be really flaky here, but hopefully this will help others with the same issue.

Hello,
I recently put together a new computer, and in the process of of installing the USB 3.0 connector from the front of my GX500 case, I either bent numerous pins on the motherboard USB 3.0 header or the motherboard shipped that way and I inadvertently made matters worse. Anyway, that header on the motherboard is without a doubt unusable.
Since I don't really need the USB 3.0 functionality, I bought a USB 3.0 -> 2.0 adapter cable, connected one end to the connector on the front of the case and the other end into the USB 2.0/1.1 header on the motherboard. Unfortunately, when Windows 7 boots and I plug a device into the front ports of the case, Windows detects the front USB ports as "Unknown Device" within Device Manager yet says the driver is successfully installed. I've already downloaded the most current Intel chipset drivers for my motherboard, deleted and reinstalled all USB drivers, and all rear USB connections are working perfectly fine - it's just the two front ports that are connected from the case to the USB 2.0/1.1 ports via the adapter cable.  I've tried both USB 2.0/1.1 headers on the motherboard, and I've tried plugging in several devices to the front USB ports, and this problem still persists.
I've ensured the connection inside the case is solid, yet I cannot get Windows to recognize the front USB ports.  However, I have confirmed that power is being sent to the front ports because it charges my phone when I connect it to the front USB ports via m... Read more

Dear All,

I bought a Satellite L30-PS33 with Vista but due to driver issues with my existing peripherical equipments, I decides to change from Vista to XP.
I have a problem with internal HUB usb, even if the installation is OK with windows XP generic drivers when I plug an USB devise, I have the message: Unknow device.

Can you give a link to find the good drivers I have to use in my computer?
It's very difficult to use a computer without any USB equipment?

Thank you and I hope you have any solution for me.

Best regards.

Chris

Answer:Satellite L30-SL33 : Unknown device after pluging external device to USB

There are no USB drivers for any Windows operating system.
Fact is that USB driver are a part of the Windows system and you will not find any 3rd party drivers for a USB port.

In your case I would recommend updating the BIOS and to update the Win XP to the latest state. All XP patches and updates should be installed!!!

Hey,

In my opinion this device has something to do with chipset and therefore you have to install the Intel chipset driver. You can download all drivers on official Toshiba website:
http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com

Check also the exact vendor and device ID in device manager to identify this device. The PCI database website can help you to do this:

I have a Toshiba laptop, model L505-ES5018. I had Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit installed on here, but decided to reformat my hard drive using Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit. After the reformat was finished, I ran Windows Update and it found several items to download and install for me. I noticed that it also found optional items to download and install for me, so after all the important updates installed, I ran the optional updates. After all of this installed, I checked Device Manager to see if there were any errors and I found nothing. I assumed everything was fine. I decided to check Devices and Printers and under my laptop icon, there was a yellow icon with an exclamation point on it. I decided to run the troubleshooting option when I right-clicked the icon....it gave me a solution to download a Toshiba password utility program, so I did that and nothing happened, even after restart. Same icon appeared. When I clicked on the icon a second time, I noticed that the model of my computer at the bottom of this window, changed from L505 to TIAS. I have no idea what this is. I decided to do another reformat on my hard drive. This time, I ignored the optional updates. I checked Devices and Printers again, the same icon appeared but the model of my computer said L505, like it should. There is something in the optional updates that is changing this.
