Intel Dual-Band 8260AC PCIe not found in Win10, found in Ubuntu

Question: Intel Dual-Band 8260AC PCIe not found in Win10, found in Ubuntu

TL;DR Ubuntu finds and uses a PCIe Wifi card just fine, but Windows can't find it. (Apparently needs USB header connection on MB?)

Long Version:
I use a PCIe card with the Intel Dual Band 8260AC chipset. The interesting part is that it has a USB 2.0 header on it that you're supposed to plug into a header on the MB. I had it installed this way previously and it was working fine til last night. I upgrade my CPU/MB/RAM, but the new MB is one USB 2.0 header short. The old MB had 3, all filled, but the new MB has only 2 USB 2.0 headers and 1 USB 3.0 header, so one device is left out. I decided to leave the wifi card plugged into the PCIe slot, but not plugged into a MB header and fire it up and make sure everything else was working.

No surprise, but I had no wifi. Figured maybe a new driver might solve the issue as it seems weird to need both a PCIe slot and a USB connection. So I dug out a USB wifi dongle I had and proceeded to update/install every possible driver, BIOS, etc. for the new MB and the wifi card. Still nothing.

Just out of curiosity I rebooted into Ubuntu (latest 17.10), and voila! Wifi worked! I removed the USB dongle just to make sure, but it definitely works just fine in Ubuntu, but Windows 10 cannot find the device. This is without the USB connection BTW. I've installed and reinstalled the driver, but no dice.

Any thoughts on getting Windows to recognize the card without the USB header connected? And any thoughts on why Ubuntu can find and use the device just fine while Windows seems unable to?

Preferred Solution: Intel Dual-Band 8260AC PCIe not found in Win10, found in Ubuntu

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Intel Dual-Band 8260AC PCIe not found in Win10, found in Ubuntu

Huh. So it seems Windows doesn't recognize it even with the USB header plugged in. This is annoying.

The maximum connection speed I am getting with the AC 3165 wifi is 72mbps. I have tried all the settings and updates.I have 2 other laptops with Atheros cards that connect at 144, an old Acer and a Surface Pro (1)i.  I just returned a Dell laptop to the Microsoft store for the same issue. I believe I will be returning this laptop as well. Intel wif cards are the worst ever.

Hello, I just got my E560 on 9/27/16. It has windows 7, 64 pro installed. I plugged in the battery and waited an hour or so before turning the system on. Everything booted ok and I entered my hidden router for my wifi. Unfortuanly, it would not connect. I finally dug out an old ethernet cable to hook up and test the system and download some software. I then unhid my router and still was not able to find it. Everyones router in the neigborhood showed up but mine. I call tech support but they claimed that it was my routers software. I have 4 other devices working just fine on the wifi and I even set my printer up for wifi while the router was hidden with no problem. I checked the Lenovo site for updates but the system said everything was up to date. I went to the Intel site and downloaded their current driver for this card. The laptop finally noticed the router while it was unhidden and I again hid the router and rebooted my Laptop. This cured the problem. However, I was displeased with Customer service they tried to tell me it was a problem with my router and not the system and all my drivers shipped from the factory were up to date. I hope this will help anyone who has a similar problem.

Unfortunately, at my school you need a dual band wireless adapter in order to connect to the internet. With my current laptop, there are certain requirements it must meet in order for it to work.
it must be a full height card. An adapter will not work as the antenna wires won't go that far.
It needs to have 2 antenna ports. I have found a few ones which fit all the other specifications, but they appear to have 3 ports.
Obviously it must be PCIe-mini and dual band, as stated in the title
Does anyone know what one to get, or even if there is one that meets those specifications?

Answer:buying laptop PCIe mini dual band adapter

Your post is confusing for a few reasons:
Laptops do not have expansion slots, PCIe or otherwise. Everything is expanded through the external ports.
Very few laptops are made with dual band adapters right now. It is curious that a school would require something that is only available on top end laptops.
Wires? Network connectivity is done through CAT5 or 6 Ethernet wiring or wirelessly.
Dual band refers to the frequency of the wireless signal: 2.4GHz or 5GHz.
The antennas on a wireless device correspond to the channels that the wireless signal is sent out on. 2 antennae do not equal dual band.
Full height or half height cards are only configurations. The configuration of a card has nothing to do with performance. Where are you going to put a full height card for desktop PC in a laptop?
PCIe-mini makes a little more sense, but contradicts the earlier need for a full height card. These are opposites.
Perhaps it would be better to explain what you are trying to do.

HelloI would like to change my atheros ar 9285 pcie mini card to a dual band model, due to my new" bt home hub 4" running dual band .Will there be a problem with the bios or can i just replace with a new card and will the card need to be a atheros card RegardsMark

Answer:G770 WITH atheros ar9285 CAN I UPGRADE THIS PCIE TO A DUAL BAND CARD

hi jokerkilling,

Welcome to the Forums.

You may have problems using dual band cards on the G770 as it only supports the following types:

Atheros AR9285 (BGN single-band card)Broadcom BCM4313 (BGN single-band card)

Using a dual-band Atheros wifi card won't work also as type needs to be specific as the above. You may need to unlock the BIOS to use other types of WLAN cards (doing a google search will give you websites that shows instructions how but be cautious as this procedure may brick the system).

Best regards,

Yikes! installing a second partition with Ubuntu is really hard next to Win7 on a m2 PCIe NVME.If you have been successful, your help would be greatly appreciated.I have encountered numerous problems installing Ubuntu 14.04 on a separate partition on a Precision 5510 with  1TB m2 PCIe NVME memory installed by Dell.
I started out by creating a USB with the Universal USB Installer and the Ubuntu 14.04 installer.then followed these stepswww.lifewire.com/ultimate-windows-8-1-ubuntu-dual-boot-guide-2200654  encountered two problems. 1.) When booted to try Ubuntu and then selecting the install ubuntu icon, the installer does not recognize the m2 PCIe NVME drive and failing because the installer sees < 6GB of storage. 2.) The system bios configuration SATA operations must be changed from RAID On to ACHI - This corrupts the Factory Win 7 image installed by Dell and fixing it requires reversing the bios configuration change and running windows repair. This is dead simple with on any system with a SATA  hard drive.Has anyone successfully done this? Here is the really crazy thing. I need both Ubuntu for work and windows to communicate with the most of the world.  I chose to have Win7 factory installed believing that installing Ubuntu on a second partition of the m2 PCIe NVME drive would be simple. I have an Acer Aspire R 13 and poor internet access due to both the location of the house and our location within the house.  I made the mistake of following a few 'helpful' online articles to improve my laptop's connection reliability and speed, but it's worse now than it was.  It's interesting that I got better internet access on my old Acer laptop, but that's another story.  Anyway, I didn't record my original wireless settings before I started making changes and I would now like to go back to default settings and take a more disciplined approach to testing changes, but I can't find a 'set to default' option.  Can anyone suggest where I might find one (without setting the whole laptop back to factory settings), or can someone please tell me what the settings are on their R 13?  It's an R7-371T-76HR.Many thanksVicki

Hi: You can't use an Intel wireless card in a computer with AMD hardware.  That is why it doesn't work.  And there is nothing you can do to make it work. Plus your notebook has to have 2 wireless antennas or you can't upgrade the wireless card at all unless you take the whole notebook apart including the display panel to add a second antenna. If your notebook has two antennas, and if you want a dual band wireless N card, you need to get a Broadcom one. Broadcom BCM943228HMB 802.11abgn 2×2 Wi-Fi Adapter, Broadcom Bluetooth 4.0 Adapter --  HP Part # 730668-001

Welcome to the forum!

You'll need a modded BIOS in order to use that card in R500. Stock BIOS will not allow the machine to boot with it.

Hello!
This is my first post here so I'll try doing my best integrating myself here and hope you'll help me to some problems I have to Windows 10 Home edition.

I bought last week a new wonderful laptop Asus ROG G752VY-GC178T. I dislike Asus for not creating drivers for Windows 7 too (kinda not like W10 as much as W7). Anyway, it seems that everything works normally except Wi-Fi!

I got 2 routers, an Asus RT56u and a TP-Link WR841ND.

When I'm connected over wi-fi to the Asus router, I have absolutelly no problem with, but when I'm connecting to TP-Link router, it's start drop the connection after I start download something. The error is about Gateway. It's very strange because the TP-Link is good enough for other devices and I had no problem with.

I did the following:
- Updating wi-fi drivers
- Rollback (to the original ones)
- disabled AV/Firewall
- Reset Wi-fi card many times and router with no clue.

I have no ideea why it's problematic to this router to connect, all other devices has no problem while dowloading at high speed so I guess the problem is from the OS.

PS: The TP-Link router has openWRT firmware and I believe this has nothing to do with my problem like I said above, all other devices works perfectly.

My other thought was that the Intel wi-fi card is incompatible with TP-Link router? or is too good for that kind of router? I doubt that.

Sorry for my english and hope you have a solution for this..

Thanks in advance!

That TP-Link had some major issues. It was originally what Sam Knows was using for their "White boxes". Just get a decent Access Point.

Hi,

I'm curious: are there problems other than the log entries?  Do the timestamps match some other event - like shutting down the laptop?  Perhaps the newer driver is just "noisier" about logging normal activity.

Welcome to the Forums.

Can you try these steps:
1. Set the Y50-70's power plan to High Performance
2. Temporarily disable Bluetooth in the Device manager.
    - Sample image
3. Uncheck the Allow this computer to turn off this device to save power setting in the  Wi-Fi card's properties

4. Disable U-ASPD (Wi-Fi power saving mode) and set the roaming aggresiveness to lowest.
   - Sample image
   - Sample image

5. If you're connected in the 5Ghz band and you have obstructions between your room and the Wi-Fi Access Point, try setting the router to broadcast both 2.4Ghz - 802.11n and 5Ghz 802.11AC and switch to the 2.4Ghz band and observe.

6. Check this thread for more tips.

After doing the above steps, open a command prompt and try to do a continuous ping to a site (e.g., google) and observe if the signal still drops.

Hello,
Before I start, I apologise if this post is missing some important information, and just for my general lack of networking knowledge.
I recently bought a new laptop, a Clevo model, with an Intel Dual-Band AC 8260 wifi card (click here I currently live in France and my network is "Free" who provide this router with their fibre optic service - click here site is in French, but the tech specs should be clear. (note: I realise I should really be posting on a French tech support site, but I'm more comfortable asking this kind of question in English so I thought I'd try here, if possible, first!)
THE PROBLEM - the wifi performs well on first boot, and if I do nothing more than browse a few tabs, or download/upload single files - I get around 55Mbps on speedtest, down and up. The problem seems to be if I have multiple incoming/outgoing connections - if I download a torrent, try to play a multiplayer game with more than 1 other person (yeah, it usually works fine with one person!), if I'm talking on Skype and browsing the internet (3 or more tabs-ish) on Chrome, and with certain Steam downloads, the speed of the connection drops to sub 3~Mbps AND stays there even after concluding that activity. The only way to get my speeds back up is to either reboot my PC or reboot the router (both methods work fine). Other devices such as my phone or my girlfriend's computer continue to function correctly during this time. I should also note that this is just the behaviour I have observed g... Read more

Hi, Yes. Please use part number on page 41 of the following manual:           http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c04091762.pdf The manual also shows you how to replace it. Regards.

My sons' ThinkPad Yoga is extremelly slow when surfing the web. Can it be that the original wireless card does not support current wireless technology standards? Is there a recommended wireless card upgrade for this model? The hard drive is almost empty, he only uses it for college work and basically uses MS Office products. No gaming applications in this box. See system specs attached. I updated all the drivers. Any ideas?

I just got the internal adapter Intel Wireless Dual Band AC 7260. I couldn't get it to work at ac speed, it always connects at 54mbps. I have another usb external DLink AC wireless adapter which works fine.
Just wondering if I have to do anything (config/setup) with the Intel internal wireless adapter to make it work at ac speed. I have been to device manager and check but it doesn't seem to have any option for ac mode.
Any help would be appreciated!

Just upgraded and installed the ASUS RT-AC68U router. Installation was smooth with no issue. I have the T440s laptop running Windows 8.1 with the "Intel Dual Band Wireless-AC 7260" adapter and I checked the device manager > wireless mode and still shows 6.802.11a/b/g.  Should AC be included in this mode?  How can I update the adapter to AC mode?

Answer:Intel Dual Band Wireless-AC 7260" Adapter

Those are discoverable modes for access points.  Doesn't mean that you're not getting AC connection speeds. Are you connected to the 5GHz band?  Click your wireless icon and then right click and show status of your connection.  What connection speed do you see?  If it's over 300Mbps, then you're getting AC speed. Pro Tip:  give your 2 band and 5 band each their own SSID.  That way, you know which one you're connecting to.

Hey guys and girls. First post in the forum here I'm about to upgrade some parts on my Pav G6 1344sa, namely replace the HDD with a SSD and replace the DVD drive with the HDD, replace the tired keyboard for a new one and upgrade the wifi card for a 5G dual band so i can untilize the speed of my newly installed fibre broadband. After a bit of research i have read there maybe issues getting the Intel AC 7260 card i just ordered to work in this notebook. Can anyone confirm if it will work? I read that some users have used a tweak of covering pin 20 and/or pin 51 with tape to make it compatible, anyone tried this or can explain how this works? Cheers

Answer:Intel AC 7260 Dual band wi-fi card compatibility

No it will not work and the covering of the pins is actually a Lenovo trick that I have never seen anybody recommend for an HP. I would think it will not work since the problem is a whitelist. The card has to prove to the BIOS what it is, not hide what it is from the BIOS so stopping the identification data from being read will just cause the wifi card to be rejected by the BIOS. As stated, there is a BIOS whitelist and only the specific HP branded wifi cards originally offered with the laptop will pass and allow the system to boot past BIOS. If you want that list just post back.

I have just purchased a new HP Pavilion and  want to upgrade the wireless wlan card. This is a great PC and has a Intel Core 4 Gen i7 and so far works good when connected to my LAN via Cat6. I am having issues pulling large CAD files and in looking over the service manual the only option listed for a duel band card is a old N Intel 3160 (1X1) from 2013. I Contacted Intel and was informed that the card should work but that HP tends to Whitelist there BIOS in order to keep customers from upgraded there workstations. The issue I am having is the the Intel 7260 is not listed in my service manual BUT is currently available as a driver download on the support site listed as a Intel 7260/3160 driver. Does anyone know if this product is whitelisted on the BIOS? I have listed the part I am ordering below for reference.  INTEL DUAL BAND WIRELESS AC 7260 - (2X2 NETWORK ADAPTER PCI EXPRESS HALF MINI CARD -802.11B, 802.11A, 802.11G, 802.11N,802.11AC, BLUETOOTH 4.0 LEModel Number 7260.HMWWB.RTigerDirect Part Number: IE2-102594433List Price $29.99 As you can see the value in spending $29.99 and the return on investment this offers this is a no brainer compared to the "stock" Realtek  Wireless Card that comes standard on this computer. Also would like to point out that this computer was only $479.99 at Best Buy and came with and 4Gen i7 and was too good a deal to pass up.  No idea why HP would but such as inferio... Answer:Intel dual band wireless-ac 7260 Compatability

Hi: From the several posts I have read on the forum you should have no problem installing any wireless card you want in your notebook, as it appears that HP has done away with the BIOS whitelisting of wireless cards. Below is the link to the service manual for your notebook. Memory upgrade info can be found in chapter 1. http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/manualCategory?cc=us&dlc=en&lc=en&product=7582630& Now, I have some bad news for you... You will void the warranty if you install a wireless card or memory yourself. Unfortunately, you have to pretty much take the whole notebook apart to get to the hard drive, memory and wireless card.  You can refer to chapters 5 and 6 of the service manual for the removal and replacement procedures.

Hello,I have been having serious problems with my HP Pavilion 17 Notebook's WiFi driver. It first began with periodic disconnects when I was using Windows 8.1. When I would close the notebook it would disconnect from WiFi, and every few hours it would disconnect as well. (Connection to my router would display a yellow exclamation point, say limited, and all other networks would disappear from view).More recently, within the past week, the disconnects have become far more frequent. I'm talking every 10 minutes or so. Now it's at the point where the lap top is simply unusable. In the past I would just go into devices through the control panel, and disable then enable the Ac3160 driver and that would seem to do the trick to get me through the day. However, now that simply does not work. I am at my wit's end.Yesterday I updated to Windows 10 to see if that would alter the way the driver is behaving - nope.I have unchecked any boxes in power management settings that would disable network connection to save power.I have updated the driver.I could definitely use some help! Thank you.

WIN 7 Ultimate, 64 bit, ASUS M3A78-EM Motherboard.

I built my PC about 3-4 year ago using the above MB and OS and I am very happy with it.

I recently decided to install a 4 port, front, USB 3 hub.

The MB doesn't directly support USB 3 but does have a PCIe 2 slot.

I purchased from Scan a Lycom UB-115, 1x Ext' 1 x Int' 2 x port USB 3 PCIe card, this is a powered card as is the front hub which was puchased seperate to the card.

The multi software disk that came with the PCIe card is NEC.

Installing the front 4 port hub was a doodle, on restarting machine, new hardware was recognised and successfully installed and I know power is getting to hub.

I wasn't so lucky with the software, the NEC 64 bit software installs OK but the USB 3 host controller/driver is not found. If I look in device manger it is not there under Universal Serial Bus Controller, ( which is where I assume the USB 3 controller would show ) and there are no yellow warning triangles, Windows simply can't find the installed software/ host controller/driver.

I spoke to Scan who directed me to Lycom's driver download page, there is an update, so downloaded it, uninstalled previous version, installed update version, still no joy, nothing in device manger.

If I click start, all programs, I can see the software, if I click on the USB 3 Utility icon, a window pops us informing USB 3 Host Controller/Drive not found.

Can anyone help me to resolve this issue?

Answer:USB 3 PCIe card, NEC USB 3 host controller not found?

Anybody?

I was running Win7 and Ubuntu. Win7 suddenly refused to boot, so I deleted the partition with plans to uninstall. Win7 didn't like the drive anymore (couldn't create or find system partition). I tried various attempts with diskpart to repair the bootsector and MBR, to no avail.

Eventually, I ended up with a brand new drive and a brand new Win10 DVD. But I got the same error trying to install to the same drive. So I took out the Ubuntu drive (and the failed Win7 drive), which finally allowed me to install. So I have a nice healthy Win10 installation and 2 SSDs on my desk.

1. Used to have Win7 which crapped out; should be blank (0 in all sectors) but probably has a messed up boot sector;

2. Has a perfectly functional ZorinOS installation (ZorinOS is basically Ubuntu-GNOME with some extras).

Questions:

1. is there any danger to my Windows installation putting the ZorinOS drive back into the machine now that Windows is running, given that it seemed to have been blocking the installation of Windows?

2. What about the blank one that may have a messed up boot sector (regarding danger to the healthy Windows drive)?

3. Would it be best to remove the windows drive and put the ZorinOS one in, make sure grub is working, and then put the windows drive back in?

4. Should I just boot up ZorinOS, grab my files, and then reformat/reinstall with all drives in?

Answer:Partition issue with Win10/Ubuntu dual-boot installation.

As long as you are using the BIOS or UEFI boot menu to select which drive to boot from and not trying to set up a multi-boot menu on one of the drives, installing the other drives should not affect the Windows drive.

Answer:Install Intel Dual Band Wireless-AC 7260 in Q190

hi Matt_McD,

Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!

As far as the system Maintenance Manual is concern,
This is not recommended as it may be incompatible with the BIOS WLAN supported list

If you'll check the Manual only the WLAN listed there with their Lenovo FRU part numbers will work with the system.

I have the same problem. I have an HP Pavilion 17Z-g000 CTO Touch running Windows 10 Pro with Intel dual-band wireless AC 3165.  The wireless connection continues to randomly drop internet connection.
When I first bought the computer it would crash Win 10 with a blue screen.  After several driver updates, it now just loses connection to the internet.  Clicking on the wireless icon, the network shows it as connected to my wireless router, but with no internet access.  After a while, wi-fi shows as being off, and can't be turned back on, and finally, wi-fi shows as disconnected with no available connections.  If I try to reboot, or shut down, the computer will hang indefinitely until I manually shut down by holding in the power key.
When I turn the computer back on, the wi-fi will show as not connected and will not show any available networks.  To restore the network connection, I have to diable the network controller in device manager, restart the computer, and re-enable the network controller.  This problem occurs both after waking from sleep and after a powerup.  The time it takes for the problem to arise can vary from a  few minutes, to a few hours after logging in.
I have tried the latest drvier from HP, 18.30.0.9, and also the latest from Intel 18.40.0.9, but the problem still persists.  HP support says this is a software problem, and since my computer is more than 90 days old, I will have to pay for support.  I told ... Read more

Hi guys, So my last laptop update was to replace the stock wifi with a Intel Dual Band Wireless-AC 3160.This new card is a combo wifi+bluetooth. The wifi part works flawlessly but... I just can't turn on the bluetooth...so i'll just list the things i tried so far:-clean install win7: wifi ok,bt doesn't show up in device manager-clean install win10: wifi ok,bt doesn't show up in device manager-bios reset..version 1.13..last one for this version(2012 laptop)-tried nearly all intel drivers from their site-tried Launch Manager for win7/win8 With the old stock card FN+F3 would open that small window where i could click to turn on wifi or bt...with this new card pressing FN+F3 directly enables wifi and that's it.Tested the new card in 2 other brand laptops and the bt works ok there(as in it gets displayed in the device manager and works). Any idea? Thanks,Marius.

The driver for the Wifi part of it is compatable, but the driver for the bluetooth is not.I had the same problem with a V5-551. The Intel wifi worked great, but the bluetooth didn't work at all.I tried all the Intel drivers and finally used a USB bluetooth adapter. That is probably what you will have to do.

I just upgraded my laptop wireless adapter from "Broadcom BCM43142" to "Intel Dual Band Wireless-AC 3160 802.11 ac" upon confirmed that the new card is supported from service manual.  Both latest Intel wireless and bluetooth drivers are installed (18.33.0.2 and 18.1.1611.3223 respectively). AC connection works perfectly fine; however, the bluetooth seems to be having issue here.  For pairing and maintain active connection between bluetooth device and laptop, I have to put them right next to each other literally.  Any distance more than 10cm apart, the bluetooth device will be inactive and unusable.  I don't have such problem with Broadcom which I can perform pairing and maintain active connection even a meter apart.  Does anybody face the same issue before with Intel AC 3160 bluetooth?  Or is this a hardware issue with the card itself?

Not sure, but it may be the Bluetooth needs to be set as the Default Playback device.
That is found in Control Panel/Hardware and Sound and finally the Sound Panel, Playback section.

Hello, I just purchased a Lenovo Y50. However, my wifi connection is horrible, and I see constant ping spikes when attempting to play games online. I've already confirmed this is a problem with the wifi card, by both moving right next to the router (which basically solved the problem, but this is not a permanent option), and by using an ethernet connection. This problem only occurs from my room which isn't very far away from my router. I've tried updating the driver (my computer stated it was up-to-date, but I was able to find a newer version on the Intel site anyway..) to no avail. It is now currently version 17.1.0.19.

Hi! First of all, I'm sorry if my English is bad. My laptop is running on Windows 8.1 Single Language. I just bought this about a month ago and I'm having this weird problem.

Cases that my network adapter connects to my computer:
1.) After restart
2.) When the network adapter successfully starts and then shut the computer down then start it again

Cases that my network adapter does not connect to my computer:
1.) Turning the computer on after a few hours from the last shutdown

I have done the following things:
1.) Update the driver
2.) Not allowing the computer to turn off the network adapter
3.) Uninstall and reinstall network adapter
4.) Release and renew IPv4 address
5.) Disable Proset services
6.) Disable Bluetooth driver and services
7.) Set WLAN AutoConfig to automatically start

Is this a hardware related problem or a driver problem? Do you know how to fix this?

Thanks!

Hey all,

I need a couple more Ethernet ports on my pfSense box, so I bought a dual port Intel Pro/1000 PT NIC. I have several of these already in various boxes and am very familiar with them, but apparently I mis-remembered their PCIe slot configuration.

I had thought they would fit in a 1x slot, but it turns out they are PCIe 1.0a 4x instead.

I am considering filing down the back of my 1x slot and fitting it as is, at a lower bandwidth. my question is, do you guys think I'll see a SIGNIFICANT performance hit?

PCIe 1.0 1x permits a max transfer rate of 250MB/s. This is full duplex.

1000BaseT is also full duplex, 1000Mbit and there are two ports.

So, 2000Mbit / 8 = is exactly 250MB/s

So unless there is lots of overhead going to PCIe from Ethernet, it seems like this should work quite nicely in 1x mode.

On the other hand, Intel must have had a reason why they made it 4X and not 1x?

I'm thinking at worst, it should work fine so long as it doesn't see heavy gigabit use on both ports at the same time.

Any thoughts?

Has anyone tried it before?

Thanks,
Matt

Answer:Dual Port Intel Pro/1000 PT in 1x PCIe slot? Performance?

No real experience, but I think that should work, but you probably won't be able to get line speed out of both ports: if the card does some buffering, the higher PCIe bandwidth at 4x would help drain the buffers faster than they fill, at 1x, your max drain rate is the same as the max fill rate, but you might not hit max drain.

It has been a long time since posted on these forums. I don't know what has changed, but i am back.
I am very rusted on repairing and troubleshooting computers. I guess my experiences have worn out.

Anyways, my mother has a computer she bought from Walmart and was preinstalled with Windows 8. I've managed to downgrade to Windows 7. Now the problem is, i can't seem to get or find the correct network adapter driver. I want to install the driver so i can use Windows 7 software to locate other drivers automatically.

My mother's computer is HP 110-023wb

Any help would be very appreciated! I thought i can do this as i did in the past, but this is now a problem i lost experience with.

A 3rd party software says it is a Realtek Semiconductor RTL8101 PCIe Fast Ethernet Adapter.

So i assume that is the driver name. I tried searching but no prevail.

I installed Windows 7 and no drivers were installed. Can't install because of no "internet connection". Yes, the ethernet is plugged in and my service is available as i am currently typing from my Macbook Pro as we speak. And playing Destiny. Multitasking here. Anyways, help is appreciated.

HI,
I'm having problems after moving my GC to a higher slot on my Asus z87 sabertooth motherboard
You might know the card is quite big ,when i built it i installed it in the slot which was just above the PSU.
So, to give the fans more breathing space i move it.
now when it boots theres no card and it installs the standard VGA drivers.
Nothing in device manager or anything
Any ideas pls??
I thought of a bios reset or maybe a fresh install?
Do you think these might help??

Answer:Install GTX780 in Other PCIE Slot, Card not found??

Hi Gaz, ideally any gpu should be installed in the top slot, is this the slot it is in now?

You could try re-seating the card to make sure it is definitely located correctly.
Yes you could also try resetting the bios. I would not bother with a clean install of windows though as I doubt that would change anything.

Paul.

I have tried to install 7269 NGW Intel dual band wireless-ac, and it works right now. However, I only get speed of around 140 Mb/s. The strange thing is that when I checked "Device manager"--"Network adapters--"7260ac''--"advanced"--"wireless mode', I cannot find 802.11ac! I can see 802.11a/b/g/n. How come this card cannot support 802.11ac? My driver is 17.1.0.19 from 7/21/2014. What should I do to make the card able to connect 802.11ac?  Thanks a lot. EDIT:  Rolling back the driver updated with the huge batch of Windows Updates earlier this month seems to have done the trick.I only seem to have this problem with some networks (including my home network); work network is fine and while experiencing the connection issue I can connect to other wireless networks in the neighbourhood. Periodically I get an immediate failure when trying to connect to (or will be disconnected from) my network; Event Viewer has the following insights: Wireless network association failed.

So it seems like this Laptop doesn't support 802.11ac.i've search this forum and the net, and it seems like either the wireless card or the laptop just doesn't support 802.11ac. I've updated the drivers to the latest Intel drivers, as well as tried using the latest drivers that Lenovo suggest but even though it says "Intel Wireless LAN 11abgn, 11bgn, 11ac) it doesn't. Has anyone actually been able to get 802.11ac working? even for the radios to show as being supported? netsh wlan show drivers output: netsh>wlan show driverInterface name: Wi-FiDriver : Intel(R) Dual Band Wireless-AC 7260Vendor : Intel CorporationProvider : IntelDate : 18/06/2014Version : 17.0.5.8...Type : Native Wi-Fi DriverRadio types supported : 802.11b 802.11g 802.11n 802.11a still not sure if this a Lenovo problem or an Intel drivers problem ... does anyone know? Hi guys,

I have a Toshiba Satellite A660 laptop and i like to upgrade the wifi. I bought Intel Dual Band Wireless-AC 7260 wifi card, when i installed it, it didn't work. First i tried it with windows 10 default driver and later with latest official intel driver. I also tried to install the card again and it didn't work, tried to switch antena cabels still no go. Then i check the wifi card on another Asus laptop (approximately the same age model) and it worked, so the wifi card is working normally.

All the time the card is visible in the device manager and the icon is there to. The icon has the symbol for turned off wifi.

What could be the problem, what can i do?

Best regards.

I have a Thinkpad Yoga running Windows 10 pro (upgraded in July 2015).  Last week I was unable to connect to the internet wirelessly and now my laptop shows that no wifi connections are available.  When I open Device Manager, the AC 7260 does not appear under Network adapters (only Bluetooth Device (Personal Area Network) and Bluetooth Device (RFCOMM Protocol TDI) appear), unless I show hidden devices.  When I do, Microsoft Kernel Debug Network Adapter and Intel Dual Band Wireless-AC 7260 appear, but the latter is "grayed" out.  Properties indicates the following under Device status:  "Currently, this hardware device in not connected to the computer (Code 45).  To fix this problem, reconnect the hardware device to the computer."  The AC 7260 came installed on my laptop and I have not done anything to physically to remove or install the device.

I have uninstalled and reinstalled the device and updated the drivers with drivers on Intel's web site and on Lenovo's website.  When I used the drivers on Intet's web site, the device did not appear in Device Manager when I checked show hidden devices and I lost all bluetooth connection in Device Manager.  The Lenovo drivers brought back my bluetooth devices and the net work card in hidden devices.  The current drafts installed for hte device are provided by Intel , file version 17.15.0.5 (downloaded from Lenovo).

Any thoughts or solutions would be greatly appreciated.

Ok so I just got a used Intel Dual Gigabit 1000/PRO PT PCIE network adapter.

My Hardware is as follows:

Intel i7 3770k
ASUS Z77V-PRO mobo
8GB Ram
AMD Radeon HD 7850 video card
Audigy2 ZS PCI sound card

I have the most up to date BIOS on the motherboard

So I installed the network adapter into 1 of my 2 free pcie slots.
In BIOS I disable the onboard LAN adapter.

Load into windows and I get a new hardware installation message saying that the drivers for my "Xeon processor E3-1200 v2/3rd Gen Core processor PCI Express Root Port - 0155" has been installed and ready. That is my first WTF.

I try to install the newest Intel drivers provided by the Intel website, I get an error saying "There is no Intel Network Adapter installed on your computer" error. 2nd WTF

I have no tried numerous combinations of using my 2nd free pcie slot in the mobo, no change in situation.

THe odd thing is, is that on the network card when its plugged in and computer turned on the green lights on the ports are on solid (not flashing) as I have no cable in them yet. So I dont think the card is dead. The card was used but looked to be in perfect condition.

What is the problem, can anyone help? I cant find any other people having many issues with these cards online.

Answer:Intel dual gigabit 1000/pro PT PCIE network adapter not working!

Just a guess but I think your Intel Dual Gigabit 1000/PRO PT PCIE was designed to work with a Xeon processor and a matching motherboard.
I believe it would be completely different circuitry from your motherboard and cpu.

Hi I recently purchased the U41 Series laptop, with i5 (5th Gen) ,4 GB Ram, 1 TB SSHD , 2GB NVIDIA GEFORCE. It has an Intel(R) Dual Band Wireless-AC3160 adapter. Now, I am facing a lot of issues due to this adapter. Firstly, the connection is very unstable. It drops out anytime, and speed also fluctuates a lot. Secondly, when I am in my room, all other devices, including a 5 year old Lenovo laptop can acccess a Wifi network, but the U41 fails to access and if it does, it frequently disconnects. Read online for a lot of solutions, it is faced by all the users of this adapter, but had no luck. Please look into this matter, and if necessary, call for a replacement of the wireless adapter. It would be good on Lenovo's part if it does so. It is really frustrating to buy a Notebook with such good configs & then facing such issues !!.

I was wondering if anyone is having the same issue I am having. I have a HP Envy m7-n101dx notebook with an Intel ac 7265 dual band wireless adapter running 64bit Windows 10.  The wifi speed is very poor. I have an arris surfboard 6900ac modem/router. I have 300 mb/s internet service. Wired the modem gets about 350 mb/s. On wifi on the 5gz band I have a macbook that regulary gets 180-240 mb/s speeds. I also have a 5 plus year old macbook that gets 150-180 mb/s speeds. Our phones get 100-150 mb/s speeds. But this computer usually only gets about 50-80 mb/s speeds. Often it can dip below those speeds. If I open my router to 8 channels, the speeds will drop to about 8 mb/s.  Very rarely will it get upto 100 mb/s speeds. But it never gets close to the speeds it is rated to get.  I was wondering if anyone was having the same problem and if they have a solution? I have updated drivers, rolled drivers back, dowloaded directly from the intel site, and deleted and reinstalled the network adapter. Nothing has worked.

I have a friends Seagate  Barracuda 7200.11 500GB. it was in his HP Pavilion Elite m9750a. Running Vista Home Premium. In the PC it would not boot past the initial splash screen. None of the "F" options were operational. I have removed the HDD and placed it in a "Dock". Still windows [XP this time] will not recognize the drive, neither will UBUNTU .... I booted UBUNTU from a CD. Does anyone have a suggestion for me? I do hear the discs inside spin... Can anyone have a guess at the cost of data retrieval? I have considered that changing the logic board may help... Any advice or assistance would be appreciated

Answer:HDD not found by Vista or by UBUNTU [linux]

Hi Changing the logic board will make the drive unrecoverable. it is likely the drive is stuck in Busy a very common problem with some Seagate 500gb drives. if this is one of them and your feel that you can do this procedure it may get the drive working again. If you do get the drive accessible then update the firmware as soon as possible. The instructions are here http://atola.com/products/insight/manual/seagate-7200.11.htmlthe firmware is here http://knowledge.seagate.com/articles/en_US/FAQ/207951enIf it is one of the effected drives you need to apply the fix exactly as described give yourself 30 to 45 seconds between each step have someone time it for you. Doing this yourself could cause data loss  Lisa

Tonight, I decided to jump over to a file share on our Windows 7 Pro Desktop tonight, due to I was too lazy to get up and go in there to look up what I wanted. Samba on Ubuntu 12.04, now requires that you capitalize the username, which never was the case with previous editions.

Only way around this that I have found as a quick fix, is by going to Go, then Network and setup a Network connection to the windows machine, then use a Capitalized username, then password can stay the same. I am too lazy to figure out how to edit the username info on my netbook running Ubuntu 12.04, or go through the pain of converting the username info for Samba.

Sometimes things are just easier to take the shortcut, vs. taking the long route, even though it works.

Hello and welcome,

You've run into the BIOS whitelist.  A card must be a supported model (7260) AND have a Lenovo FRU number (04W3844 or 04X6007).  A "vanilla" 7260 won't pass the whitelist check and you'll get the 1802 error.

Did not find any details about the compatibility with this unit and therefore I don’t think that someone will be able to provide your precise information about the compatibility…

Mostly the compatibility depends on the BIOS… so in case the BIOS would be able to handle the module, the OS should recognize it properly…

So I guess you will need to try it out…

After Windows update my WiFi adapter (Intel(R) Dual Band Wireless-AC 3165) just stopped working.I tried many drivers, but the official driver did not work, the latest (2017-10) driver from intel's websites is not working either. Rolling back the driver is not working anymore after windows update.I tried static IP, did not help. This is not an adapter issue, because on Ubuntu it's working very well. After connecting to a network, the connection stays alive for 2-5 secs, then the adapter restarts automatically. In event viewer I can see some warnings.WLAN Extensibility Module has stopped.Module Path: C:\WINDOWS\System32\IWMSSvc.dll It's extremely annoying because it's a "bussiness" category laptop without wireless connection. Any ideas ? Can I download from somewhere some older drivers for this adapter ? Third party sites are not an option. : )
