Hello, Yesterday i bought Ideapad 120S-14IAP and i have a problem with FN key. It does not work at all. I installed Windows 10 Pro x64 , after that, i installed all drivers from lenovo website. Windows is up to date.I tried a usb stick with Ubuntu 16.04 and FN works perfectly. Seems to be a driver problem.I thought it was a fail driver. I dont know. PS. In BIOS is enabled FN key.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I am a new owner of a Ideapad 120S purchased yesterday on Black Friday.I have mostly owned Dell laptops previously. I am guessing that when I power the laptop the first thing I need to do is create a backup on a USB flash drive. Any gotchas I should know about?

Answer:new owner of Ideapad 120S

Yep, backing up is a good practice.

Other than that, you should be good to go.  Enjoy your new machine!

Brand new Ideapad 120S purchased last Friday.Just got around to powering up. Went into Windows 10 to create a recovery drive and get the common non-descript error "A problem ocurred while creating the recover drive". First I used a 16GB PNY in the rightUSB port.Second I tried a 32GB SanDisk in the left USB port. What do I do now? The laptop appears to be working.

I have seen that on older models with emmc drive, there was an available m.2 slot on the motherboard where you could put in an m.2 drive. Can you do that in the ideapad 120s? I have the 11 inch model with emmc drive soldered to the motherboard. Thank you.

Nowhere in the documentation, web site is any info about what kind of controller and hence what size SD cards this model is supporting.Even Lenovo tech support doesn't know that info!I am really hesitant to buy a SDXC card of +32GB only to find out it supports on SDHC cards, thus limited to 32GB... thanks for any useful info, Ralf

Answer:What kind of SD card controller is in a Lenovo IdeaPad 120S-11AIP? SDHC or SDXC compatible?

Hi ITWorxLA,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

As per system overview :
IO port: Memory card slot (SD/SDHC/SDXC/MMC)

Platform specification:
One microSD Card slot, supports up to 2TB

Usually there would be stickers on the box or laptop to indicate the format it also supports.
You can try to find/borrow  a spare 32GB SDXC to test first before purchase.

Hope this helps answer your query.

Regards

Hello!
About 6 days ago i bought a new DVD-ROM drive the Pioneer 120S and about 3 days ago i noticed that something isnt right with it. I noticed that when i tried to copy a file of 500MB to my HD, it took 15 minutes according to the dialog box i dont know if that accurate but it took very long for sure.

I did some testing and found out that if i leave the drive unused for a while 10 - 20 minutes and then try to use it it wont spin up!! IT WONT SPIN UP no matter what! even if i try to run nero speed or other benchmarking software. The drive reads the cd or dvd allright but at very low speed say 1x instead of 30x.

Now if I try the same thing soon after inserting a disc the drive performs ok.

I know that there is a silent mode for this drive which i have it disabeled.

The system as a whole is just a few days long and it performs all right.

Thank you

Hello Lenovo, This is my first post on this forum. If I did anything wrong please attendeed me. And my English is not the best. My Lenovo Ideapad Y510p have I bought on 26-09-13. It is just a realy nice laptop and has a lot power. But after using it for sometime I have encountered several problems and at this moment it is so problematic I can not use it properly. The first problems I found where when I shut down the laptop I get the last seconds an error message, this problem is not coming up the last time (maybe now fixed?). The second problem was the update to windows 8.1. After updating my second videocard didn't work any more. I found the solution here and it worked. But after sometime time it gave the problem my laptop didn't boot properly, I get a blackscreen and not even the Lenovo logo showed up. After turning the laptop on and off for several times I got a bluescreen. It sad: some boot files are missing. I used the backup key next to the power port and i put it to manufacturing settings. I lost many personal and business files because the backup I did make didn't work. It is something I can not turn back so I need to live with it. But after putting it back to windows 8 and then updating to windoows 8.1 the problems still occured. This means all work and lost files I did with no result. So at this moment every time I boot my pc I first need to turn it on and off for more than 10 times and remove the videocard and put it back to get it finally w... Read more

You are having a lot of problems. I would advice sending your laptop to Lenovo for repairs. Just contact the Technical support in your country and send it in. Sorry but there isnt much solution with all those problems apart from maybe updating drivers and VBIOS update for your card.

I just purchased this laptop about a month ago to help me with school. For the first week or two it worked fine and everything was going really well. Then about a week or two ago it started acting up. It is freezing programs(firefox, IE, Chrome, explorer, Flash CC, blender, and a few other programs I needed to install for school. It sometimes freezes on startup and I have to hold the power button down to restart it. Sometimes when it restarts it takes 10-15 mins to fully boot up and load up to the login screen. Does anyone know whats going on with it? I heard a lot of good things about lenovo computers but with this being my first experience I'm not too impressed.

I just bought a new Western Digital My Passport external hard drive. It works perfectly when plugged into the USB 2.0 slots, but has constant disconnecting problems when plugged into the USB 3.0 slots. It'll disconnect and then immediately reconnect. I tried my brother's harddrive (same model) and it has the same problem. Also, my Logitech MX 1000 works perfectly fine when the bluetooth receiver is plugged into the USB 2.0 slot, but becomes laggy and slow when plugged into the USB 3.0 slot. I updated all the firmware for the devices, drivers for the USB, drivers for the intel chip set, and turned off power saving options for the USB slots. I've searched the web for the harddrive issue and it looks like a lot of people are having them. But my mouse runing slowly worries me because its more than one device. is this a hardware problem? Any possible solutions?

Answer:Ideapad Z580 USB 3.0 Problems

Did you specificaly update the usb 3.0 drivers from the intel website, not just the chipset drivers as they are seperate. My TomTom will not work on my usb 3.0 but works fine on usb 2.0, but i think it`s a tomtom issue. I have a Verbatim 500gb usb 3.0 hdd and it works fine on my usb 3.0 I wonder if you problem is a WD driver problem. John.

Also I can't install some of the drivers from the Lenovo support page, the setups don't start, e.g. energy management driver, flight mode driver, and some others are missing from the site, I can't download the OneKey Recovery app from anywhere for example. Can anybody help me out?

I purchased Lenovo Ideapad z510, and regardless it's poor battery performance I enjoy it a lot it's amazing, how ever I am having those issues and would highly appreciate some tips or help : Whenever I charge the battery it never reach to 100% and when I take it off the charger and use the battery it keeps saying 99% even with no charger on, and does not show warning messages about low battery like 10 % remaning and 7% remaning .. like it used to do in the past and just shuts down..  I tried the battery gauge reset with the Lenovo's Enery Manager app but no luck!  My other question is there speceifc program that can check the fan status? I am afraid it might not be working proberly like before.  And my last question can I buy only specific parts of the keyboard? my cat removed two buttons of my keyboard and it is too expensive to replace the whole keyboard with the backlit because it's working perfectly fine! Thank you.

My Ideapad 100 delivered with Windows 10 has problems connecting to my wifi (used by a number of other units). Latest WLAN driver installed. It happens very often that I have to restart (normaly once by occasionally several times) to connect. When not connected any network analysis or status reading attempt fails (locks). I cannot get at the network card.

Hi Lenovo users, I had a couple problems with my recently purchased Y500 ideapad sli gt 650's ultrabay laptop. This is my last resort before I return for a possible repair, just wanted to make sure I couldnt fix it before I ship it out. Ok I've had this problem start occuring around after the first month of use, If I idle the laptop or it goes to sleep whenever I wake it back up after a couple of hours or when I come home from work it makes a weird humming noise coming from the vent (primary graphic card I believe). I can tell its the fan because its venting out heat, and it only fixes whenever I restart the laptop. Normally without the humming and fans working the max temp is around 50-60 degrees celcius. But whenever its humming it skyrockets to 90+, I havent let it get higher then that but whenever I restart it the fans turn on immidiately after reboot to cool it down. I think something is wrong with the card but I have no idea what happens whenever it idles ( never does it when its in use or gaming the fan always stays on when in use ) Another issue I've been having is that whenever I try to boot up the laptop it hangs on the Lenovo startup screen. I get no loading circle to indicate its doing anything. I think something is wrong with the operating system (windows 8) Sometimes it works on the first try, sometimes it takes around 5-6 times before it "catches" and starts to load windows. The laptop isnt slow by any means it just doesnt load windows. &nbs... Read more

Answer:Y500 Ideapad problems

hi Jsnipe,

Welcome to the Forums.

Are you able to re-create the humming issue in Safe Mode? (this will isolate 3rd party apps that's probably running on high CPU usage when the computer wakes up from sleep).
  - if everything works fine in Safe Mode, try to perform a clean boot and observe it in normal mode.

As for Windows 8 getting stucked on the loading screen, try to check the disk for errors by running chkdsk. You may also want to turn off Windows Update temporarily and see if the system runs stable.

Hej.

Hey all! I have a couple of weird problems with my 1 month old y500 ideapad that i require help with. 1. Cant remove ultrabaySince i got the machine I have noticed that most of the time Windows 8 doesnt recognice my second graphics card and because of this i dont get the option of using SLi in the nvidio control panel. I got so frustrated with this problem that i decided that i will remove the ultrabay and put it back in. The weird thing is that no matter how hard i try to pull the ultrabay it wont come out. I have followed the instruction in the manual by first removing the battery, pressing the unlock button to open and then pressing the unlock button in the centre while trying to slide the ultrabay free. I dont know if its somehow stuck there or is there some step i have forgotten, but it is a very frustrating problem. 2. Windows doesnt recognice my other graphics cardLike i mentioned with the ultrabay problem, windows cant seem to find my other graphics card. The really weird thing is that when i tried to remove the ultrabay and failed, then put the battery in and started the computer, Windows all of the sudden recogniced the other graphics card and sli worked. So my guess is that there is some kind of problem with how my ultrabay is connected to the computer 3. CPU usage is always close 100%When i got the machine it ran fine, but these days i have noticed that its quite slow. I open the task manager and see that my cpu usage i... Read more

Answer:Ideapad y500 problems

hi Tomokka,

Welcome to the Forums.

Regarding the issues that you're having:
1. You're probably right. There's most likely a plastic piece that's getting stucked as you're removing the ultrabay correctly (see this disassembly video). You'll most likely send the unit to service to get this fixed.

2. If the secondary GPU via the ultrabay is getting detected, running dxdiag will show you an Approx. Total Memory of 4GB under the Display Tab. If it only shows you 2GB, SLI is either disabled or there's a loose connection between the ultrabay and the motherboard.

Also, SLI requires that you're plugged-in to an 170W AC adapter. Otherwise, it won't work.

3. On the Task Manager, can you try to go to the Performance Tab and hit Open Resource Monitor. In that app, it'll show you the process/service that's eating up high CPU usage.

Hello all, So, I have a brand new Lenovo Ideapad Z565 and I am having a few different problems with it.  They are: 1.)  There is a strange sound that comes from inside the computer on occasion.  I know it is from inside the computer because it still happens when I have the laptop on mute.  I really don't know how to describe the sound.  Perhaps like a loud scratch.  I am figuring if this has ever happened to somebody else they will recognize what I am talking about. 2.)  This problem is also about a strange sound, but it is not coming from inside the computer.  It happens when playing a song on iTunes, and sometimes there will be a short interruption of distortion in the song, kinda like the sound you hear when you adjust the antenna of a radio or mess with your headphones.  It seems to happen especially when I am using the Internet, like the process of going to a new web page interferes with iTunes, but sometimes it also happens when I am doing nothing else.  I know it is nothing messed up about the music files themselves, because I will rewind the song and not hear the noise again, and it can happen on any song but never happens on my iPod, and I know the files are fine. 3.)  Just discovered this one.  My CD-ROM drive is not reading CDs.  It successfully reads DVDs, and it successfully read one CD that I put in, but 2 other CDs which are fine that I put in, nothing happens.  This seems... Hi, I recently purchased (like yesterda) an Ideapad Y430 and the problems have begun already. Firstly, some of the keys on the keyboard aren't sensitive to touch (e.g. the "T" button.) As I am typing this I have to hit the button hard before the letters appear. I am assuming this is not normal? The laptop in the showroom did not have this issue. Secondly, when I got it. I connected to the net in order to download antivirus software (I went direct to the antivirus software site). Lo and behold, adware was found on the laptop when it did a boottime scan. The adware was found in C:\Program Files\Lenovo\OneKey App\One Key Recovery and D:\drivers\onekey_recovery\data1.cab. The laptop came preinstalled with software WildGames, which could be the source of the adware. I searched the background tasks to see if there some things that unwanted programs running and found this which did not look familiar to mel:- startup item"Unattend0000000001{........}command: c:\windows\test.bat Is this legit? Also, would I by eligible to get my laptop replaced by Lenovo with all this crap occuring on the same day of the purchase?

Answer:Problems with new IdeaPad Y430

Since it's only one day, you can go back to the store where you bought it and explain to them the issues that you are having with  your one-day old laptop.  Just the keyboard issue alone would merit a replacement I guess.  I believe, it has a one-year warranty, more if you buy extended insurance warranty If they change it, try and use the laptop in the store to make sure that everything is working properly.

I have just purchased a Lenova S10 Ideapad!! It is worth the money I believe but I did encounter some problems!!! My first problem would have to be the right shift key which is easily confused by the up key!! It is a big deal for me to be typing and find myself typing in the sentence above!!!!  My second bigget is the mouse touchpad is very touchy i barely hit it and i'm finding myself on a new page and constantly forcing the mouse to click the back buttton! These minor malfunctions I can live with! i rate the S10 Ideapad 4 out of 5 stars! I'm happy with the ratings from other users and happy with the ratings from Laptop magzine which gave the pad 3 out of 5 which i think should be a little higher!!! A happy user,Jennifer

Answer:Problems encountered with S10 ideapad

Lenovo improved the keyboard design in the newer S10-2.But you are stuck with the older design.  Me too! The touchpad is very user-adjustable.Just go to Mouse Properties in your Control Panel.Select the Device Settings tab.Click on Settings.Adjust "Sensitivity" Many users turn off the "Advanced Gestures", BTW

As per the query we understood that you are facing issue with touchpad and keypad in your Z400 laptop.

Try to update the touchpad driver and check for the issue, also try to boot the system to safe mode and check for the issue. The touchpad driver is a inbox driver i.e inbuilt in the operating system.

For the keypad issue check if the issue persists in command prompt, also tries to reinstall the operating system and check for the issue. Also boot the system to the safe mode and check for the issue. Try to uninstall the keypad adapter and restart the system and check for the issue.

Hope this helps. Do post back if issue persists!

Best regards,

Hello there.
I have just purchased the Lenovo IdeaPad Y510P and I am loving it.
I do have an issue with plugging a second screen to the VGA port, everything works fine with the HDMI port but when I plug a second screen to the VGA port the machine seems to recognize the 2nd screen but there is nothing on the display, it's all black, also the 2nd screen tells me there is no signal detected, I tried 2 different screens which work perfectly on another Lenovo laptop but no luck when I plug it to the new laptop, what's odd is that the system recognize I am attaching a 2nd screen and gives me options of resolutions and screen options like desktop location and such, sadly there is nothing happening on the 2nd screen.

So, I assume something is wrong, funny enough if the VGA port was broken then the system wont recognize that I have plugged a 2nd screen, so how come I don't see anything on the 2nd screen or that it show me on the 2nd screen that there is no signal.

Would love for some support.
Adida

I would also LOVE to have this topic responded to, as I have exactly the SAME problem.  When I have the DVD in the bay (the GT750MS graphics adapter is out), I cannot get any response from my 2nd monitor plugged into the VGA port.  HDMI port works fine.  Please help!!!!!!

I tried looking at this problem on Google, but no luck. Anyway, the problem is with my touchpad. When I boot Windows 7 Home Premium, the touchpad isn't responding (the touchpad indicator is on), until I press ANY key on the keyboard. For example if I press Ctrl, the touchpad works again, until some time. Then it stops working again and I have to press some key again. It's frustrating. That doesn't happen with an external mouse. Another thing is, when I boot in, I can't seem to get a response from clicks on the Taskbar icons. I click on it, a frame around it appears, but the program doesn't run. I have to click on the Start button to get it working. I've tried new drivers for the touchpad from Lenovo support and from Synaptics and it doesn't work. Any suggestions?

Model: 20309 Hello, i'm having trouble with my touchpad. The ALPS driver properties have an option to enable 2-finger click.  Once enabled this function does not work.  I have tried restoring the computer, upgrading to windows 8.1 and installing the most recent as well as older versions of the driver from the lenovo website.Regardsmark

Hello, this is probably a really simple thing that I'm over looking, but I can't for the life of me figure out how to type the @ symbol on my y500. I haven't even set it up yet, stuck at the part where it wants my email address.  Shift +2, Ctrl + Shift + 2, all not working... Please help!

Answer:Ideapad Y500 keyboard problems

hi Lunatoris,

Welcome to the Lenovo Forums.

Shift+2 usually displays the "@" sign. If this doesn't work, can you enable numlock and press ALT+64 to display the "@" sign.

Let me know your findings

Hi, so ive had my ideapad y500 for about 4-5 months now and i have noticed that the heat is becoming a real issue. i keep the laptop raised about 1.5 centimeters for better air circulation but it doesnt help. the fans periodically run very fast and even in idle times, i can hear it. was not like this when i first got it (very quite). also, i installed HWmonitor to check my temperatures. with minimal usage or during idle times, i am getting temps between 48-58 C. this is not normal and was wondering what i should do. Comments would be appreciated thanks

Answer:Ideapad y500 Heat problems

my idle temps are between 48-55c after re-applying the thermal paste when replaced the motherboard at the service center, I was concerned to until I stressed an msi gaming laptop and a y510p a display units at the store and got similar temps while stressing both prime95 and furmark for 10 mins.unlike you my fan spins very quitely and you cannot hear it unless you stick your ear in front of the vent.I think your temps are normal but the fan shouldn`t spin that fast, anyway download prime95 and furmark for cpu and gpu stressing and stress your laptop for 10 mins and report your temps, if you cpu runs up to 90c and gpu up t0 85c then your fine if it goes more than 95 then check your enviorment tempreture and if your in a cool place your gonna have to re-apply the thermal paste.I am concerned like you but you have to understand all quad core i7 in laptops require active cooling even when idling, since they produce alot of heat even the 4th generation ones, unless you own an asus or sager these temps should be quite acceptable.just run the tests and check your temps cuz what matter is your laptop not overheating when gaming.

STORAGE, DISK HEALTH, BATTERY, OVERHEATING My laptop is 1,5 years old. I think its ergonomic and good to use.  But; Storage is way too low, you have 10gb free space with default apps and drivers,  Each process has become too slow to be done, even though opening browser or file manager. Battery life reduced to 2 hours on internet use. (Only reading)  After 30 minutes of reading pages, keyboard is untouchable (middle part).  I hope these problems are in warranty conditions.

I have a Levovo Ideapad U310, PN 59351642, 13.3" Ultrabook. When the power button is pressed, I can hear the CPU fan was on but there was nothing on the screen. I verified that the disk is working. I can attach the disk to my external drive and it is working file. I suspect that the mother board is bad. But I need to confirm this before ordering a mother board replacement. There are other components such as the LCD screen or the CPU itself might be bad. When I turned on the power, I tried to enter the BIOS set up utility by pressing Fn-F2 but there was still nothing on the screen and there was no sounds or beeps. I have tried the "onekey rescue" but this also did not work. Are there any other tests that I can perform to be certain that the mother board is bad and all other components are still okay? Any helps / suggestions are greatly appreciated. Ken

Hey all!I bought a Lenovo Ideapad Y700 15ISK Laptop  (touch version) exactly a month ago through a seller, since I live in Pakistan & as far I know Lenovo doesn't officially function here. Other details: Windows 10; core i7; 16gb; 512gb memory. About a week ago i clicked on the wrong link and got a terrible virus because of which i had to reformat my hard drive by reloading my Windows 10 (through that full/all disk reset option). What that resulted in was a simple windows 10 (without the preloaded software which I kinda want back), and a heck of a lot of problems. Firstly, is there any way to get back that preloaded software? I've tried searching everywhere but can't really find it; found the nvidia and reltek stuff but that's it. Secondly, the black screen of death; this was something that happened to me the very first time i opened the laptop, and the second time after i reloaded it. It hasn't happened since, but was wondering if there's a way to fix without physically doing anything to the laptop. Thirdly, ever since I've reloaded windows, the on-screen indicators for caps lock and num lock do not show up, and I really want those because i'm still adjusting to this keyboard. I've tried looking for it here on the forum, but all the instructions are for windows 7 or maybe 8, nothing for windows 10 (the instructions for windows 7 can't apply to windows 10 because the options aren't the same). ALSO, the on screen indicator for when i turn off the t... Read more

I've had my S10e for a few months now (May '09) and have just noticed that the left shift key is no longer 'rebounding' and is 'mushy'.  All the other much more commonly used keys are fine (space bar, enter, home row, etc.) are fine.  This netbook has really been used *very* lightly so I'm quite surprised.  When I called my local (BC, Canada) warranty service provider they replied that the keyboard was a grey area and that I contact Lenovo first.  Does anyone have any experience with getting warranty service on their keyboard?  I'm concerned because the service provider mentioned a $100 assessment fee that I will be charged if they determine that the keyboard is not under warranty. Thanks,Raphael

Just wanted to report that this is no longer a problem.  Probing around under the keys with an exacto knife and a thin pair of tweezers I found a small piece of plastic that somehow fell underneath.  Now, I'll have to get a skin for the keyboard so this doesn't happen again! Raphael

I've been a happy owner of an Ideapad Y550 for more than a year, when suddenly my battery capacity started to drop RADICALLY. When I say radically, I mean that - say - on Monday it lasted for 2,5 hours with a full recharge, by Sunday this decreased to 10 minutes, with only 1 recharge cycle in between. Yes, I would use my laptop plugged in most of the time. I thought this wasn't normal, so I performed a complete discharge - recharge cycle but it remained the same. Windows shuts itself down automatically after 10-20 minutes uptime (from a full charge). Since I travel a lot, I need my laptop a lot as well. So I ordered a battery through Ebay from a 3rd party, for I decided not to trust Lenovo's batteries anymore. I've had many batteries before, but never saw a battery die that fast... Why I opened this topic is because I suspect there is nothing wrong with the battery itself. After I placed my order on Ebay, I found out something curious: since Linux has  totally different mechanisms, I thought I'd check the system uptime on it. And guess what: the system showed the battery level to reach 0% after 10 minutes, and IT KEPT RUNNING AT 0% FOR MORE THAN 30 MINUTES! (how long exactly, I don't know, I just discovered it last night and I fell asleep... lol) So I did some research and I've found out the following:- A lot of people have had the same experience with Ideapad machines: batteries dying on an instant, with 10 minutes uptimes, etc.- There are some ... Answer:Battery problems (Ideapad Y550)

Well, here's what I know. Windows 7 actually really does everything to ensure your active work doesn't get lost, and actually goes into a sort-of hybrid hibernation at around 2% battery. With any other laptop, you could boot back up, and drive the battery right to empty. However, it seems Lenovo has something programmed into the BIOS that prevents it from turning on once the battery reports 0%. The issue with notebook batteries is that the calculation for percentage is actually done within the battery on a charging circuit, rather than via software. Due to fluctuations in manufacturing, usually these boards are self-calibrating. I've read mixed results as to whether this can be reset on Lenovo lithium-ion batteries, but I see no reason why it cannot. The issue, of course, is the skewed results from extremely short charge/discharge cycles. Eventually, it begins to believe that your 90% is actually 0%. That, in combination with the logarithmic normal curve of battery charge capabilities causes the extremely short life. Now, if you read about the Lenovo Thinkpads, or the legacy IBM Thinkpads, they have software that basically fully discharges that battery, then fully charges it. Obviously, the consumer end does not offer this software. However, a simple electronics circuit can fully drain the battery to 0 Amp-hours. All you would do is find a way to discharge the voltage. Most likely, the best approach would be to find some indicator bulbs used... Read more

I've been having problems with the touchpad for a while now, I'm not quite sure if they're are software or hardware related.  I'm running Windows 8 Pro 64bitSynaptic Touchpad Driver for Microsoft Windows 8 (32-bit, 64-bit) - IdeaPad Z380, Z480, Z580 Version 16.2.10.5 The Synaptic Pointing device will sometimes just stop working altogether. For the last 30 minutes it was displaying on the taskbar that there was pressure being applied to the center and I had no control over the mouse at all. I rebooted several times and it was still displaying that there was pressure being applied to the touchpad. After leaving it for a little while it seems to have fixed it self and worked now, but this has happened on multiple occasions since my purchase. One small thing I noticed was that lots of the time when the touchpad isn't responsive I'm still able to use the left and right click. I'm also able to move my finger around where the left and right click buttons are and it picks up my movement, however, if I try that on the main section of the trackpad it does not respond.  Any help is appreciated.

Recently I have been getting wireless connection problems on my 2 month old y580. I was unable to connect to my wireless router. It would try to connect to a network repeatedly for 5 to 6 times and ultimately fail. Recently I found a fix where if I comepletely disable my Windows Firewall it would allow me to connect and I can turn the firewall back on afterwards. My problem however is that i need to do this everytime my computer restarts. I have no problem with doing this because it works just as fine as before but I am sure there is probably a permenant fix to this.

Answer:Ideapad Y580 Wireless problems

hi ChinoNino,

Welcome to the Lenovo Community.

If no third party application (such as Norton, Mcafee, etc. mo) monitors your Firewall settings,

Try to do the following:
 1. Reboot into Safe Mode with Networking (to access this option, press F8 during boot-up) and try to connect. If it works, perform a clean boot. and test with the Windows Firewall ON.
2. If Step 1 doesn't work, uninstall the Wireless Network Adapter under Device Manager (click start > type Device Manager) - this will refresh the wifi card's settings to factory default
3. If you have the Wireless Centrino N - 2200 or 2230 under Network Adapter, go to your wifi router & check if you have WMM under QoS - disable this setting if applicable since there's a compatibility between these cards and WMM.
4. Reboot your wifi router (unplug it for a minute and turn it back ON)

If the above steps doesn't work, you will need to create advanced firewall rules to connect to your wifi router.

Hope this helps

Hi I was unfortunate enough to buy a Lenovo laptop for the first time two weeks in Kuala Lumpur. It wasnt too long before I realised that the laptop had a serious problem with the Wifi. The internet connection either runs very slowly or not at all, i'm using my old trusty HP laptop at the moment and there are no problems at all, even my cheapo smartphone works better than the Lenovo. The model is Ideapad 310-14IKBModel name 80TUS/N PF0Q5ZXD After a little research(wish I did it before I purchased) I found out that the older Ideapad 310 is plagued by bad Wifi, but it shoudn't affect the new models, this laptop says it was manufactured on 18/12/2016. Two years international warranty came with the device, so I am planning to visit Lenovo when I return home. In the meantime is there any quick fix for this? It's driving me mad. Thanks

Since I opened the box I have had problems with this laptop.  I have seen a lot of people posting issues relating to the video card error - Lenovo has posted a driver solution for some models, but it has not fixed mine yet.  Aside from this error and the diagnostic failing, apps are constantly crashing, screen flashing non-stop on certain websites or doing certain functions, screen blackout, etc.  Hoping this is all related to the video card error and not some additional problem.  Anyone else having these problems?  Any timeline on the fix?  I have been trying to be patient but it's getting increasingly frustrating... especially with a $1000 brand new laptop...

Mediashow (you do not have the compatible VGA hardware or driver to run mediashow), Dolby Control Centre (shows active icon on task bar but cannot open program/window), Lenovo Slidenav (this action cannot be completed because the other program is busy. So I'm trying to upgrade to Windows 10 but was having some issues with upgrade from within Windows 7 and decided to create a ISO copy on a USB using the Media Creation Tool from Microsoft and I was going to boot to that and try the upgrade however I run into a problem when it asks for a partition to install Windows 10 on. All the options I have available are OEM reserved and can't be used for the upgrade. There is plenty of room to do the upgrade but because the partitions are all locked because they are OEM partitions I can't use them. Is there any way I can bypass this problem? Is there a way for me to select one of these partitions to install the upgrade for Windows 10 to. I also tried going into Disk Management and try to create a new partition to install Windows to but the computer ships with 4 partitions so I can't create another partition even. Is there any way for me to either use one of the current partitions for the upgrade when it asks me or is there a partition I don't need that I can delete so I can make another partition? I'll add a link to the Disk Management window. Disk Management Image

Answer:IdeaPad Y580 Partition Problems

If I remember well (I am getting old, cant even remember what I did 2 days ago), I only deleted 2 partitions: 1-  200mb one (system, active, primary partition)2- C: (Boot, Healthy....) These 2 are windows partitions, one for windows datas, the other for its boot files. You can safely delete them and choose the new "unallocated partition" to install windows 10 on it. The partition that does not have any name )around 19GB) is the one Lenovo stores the "recovery system" so you do not want to mess with it if you want to keep it. I strongly recommend you to boot from USB (plugged in a USB 2.0 port near the power plug for best compatibility) and do the fresh - Clean install because the upgrade option only makes everything in win10 terrible. Sometimes things do not work or kinda freeze, irresponsible etc...

Hello, I just purchased 2 weeks ago a new Ideapad Z500 i5-3210 MG, model name 5931, and I am not satistisfied with it due to some problems:The systmes is running slow, which you would not expect from a new machine. The battery gets depleted after maybe 2 - 3 hours and the computer would not restart from idle only with battery energy, even if there is enough energy in the battery, I have to conect to power in order to restart it.If someone has any idea what could be the problems with this computer and how to fix it, that will be great.

Answer:Ideapad z500 problems- technical help

Dear Customer

Welcome in lenovo forums

The system performance depends on how the personal usage and how many application are opened in behind . if everything is ok so we can processed witht the recovery as best option
As for the battery issue , the machine will not be able to restart with the battery only if the battery charge are less than 5% and of course te performance depends on the usege the created power plan

Please let me know if the recovery is a suitable options or not so we can processed .

Thanks

Hi, at work we have just gotten 2x Ideapad Z710's, and like all our machines we would like to throw them on our WDS server. But we cannot get it to work. I know its normally the windows forums i should scour through. But all the searches lead me to a general problem, but this error is only for this one model.Im getting the errors.TFTPPXE-T01: File not foundPXE:E3B: TFTP Error- File not found.  The solutions found all suggest  reinstalling the WDS server, but since its only for this one model, it seems like a more specific problem. We are thinking of just normally installing/reinstalling these machines as they need since we can't find a proper solution to the problem. So im asking here in hope of someone else have an idea/solution for this problem. The WDS server is 2008 R2. it will soon be upgraded to 2012, but since its planned in the next month, we dont want to do this now, due to infrastructure timeplans. Regards Henrik R. Read more

I have this strange problem with my Lenovo Ideapad Y430 (Windows Vista Home Premium 32 bit). It won't shut down when its AC Adapter is unplugged. When I shut it down, it will show the shut down screen with the blue circle spinning and then it will stop.  It gets stuck on the shut down screen and it won't really turn off. I just force it to shut down by pressing the power button. Now, after troubleshooting my PC, I have noticed that it only behaves like that when its AC adapter is not plugged in. I tried to shut it down again and again when the AC Adapter is plugged in and it turns off. I tried the other way when it's not plugged in and it won't shut down. Anyone here who's experiencing the same error? What should I do to fix this?

Hi, Short Version:My laptop screen has been messing up (Massive flickering, white/green lines) simliar to what dozens of other people on these and other  forums reported. Sent laptop in for warranty, didn't fix problem. I want to have  my laptop replaced or refunded. This is a 1000$ laptop, and I cannot afford to get a new one. The type of "support" I have received from Lenovo has been very poor, I hope I can get some help from the official Lenovo mods here. Long Version:My Lenovo Ideapad y510p screen had a slight flicker (not very noticeable) when I got it, however I searched online and it seemed to be the same for many people and not getting worse. Howver a few months ago the flicker started to get really bad and the screen also had these white/green noise lines appearing and disappearing (even in BIOS and across multiple operating systems, so this IS NOT a software issue but a hardware one). I contacted Lenovo support and after a lenghty process of having me reset and reformat the computer they told me that I would have to send it in for warranty repairs. I am a college student so it is very difficult to part with my laptop for 10 days, I had to wait until a few weeks later during spring break when I sent my laptop in for repairs. I SPECIFICALLY mentioned on the information sheet that this was NOT an LCD issue or a display issue but an issue with the laptop design/motherboard, but after 10 days of waiting I got back my laptop with just the LCD scre... Hi ElectricCrayon,

Im sorry to hear about your experience..
What I would Suggest since in your situation the problem is HW and it definitely need to be repaired and since you cannot have the laptop leave,
You can Report that the Porblem is not repaired and You still need a repair. Let them know that you can send the computer in for repair at a later Time.
They'll Give you a Case number and When you call back once your ready to have it repaired, Even if your warranty expired, You can Provide the case number where you reported the Issue. And They'll Honor the repair.

Hope this helps
Cheers!

Hi everyone, here it is what's all about:I bought my IdeaPad Z570 3 days ago and I'm experiencing some strange sound problems. From time to time, randomly usually when playing youtube clips, sound gets distorted, kind of freezes and gets "flanging' effect, or what might be simply described as having some kind of noise. It lasts 1-5 seconds, and it's pretty annoying.I think I'm not the only one with this problem (http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/IdeaPad-Y-U-B-V-and-Z-series/Z570-sound-problem-quot-noise-quot/td-p/525...Additionally SRS software doesn't work, i.e.. Doesn't even load.I've tried the standard uninstall-install solutions, any ideas? To me it seems that this is a manufacturer bug to some of the laptops, and that's bad Lenovo, that's bad.

Hi all,        I am using a Lenovo y 430 and I am having a lot of trouble connecting to my college LAN with Windows Vista. Typically, what happens is I have connectivity for a few minutes after boot up and then lose it. The network status changes to "Limited Connectivity" notification.  I have ruled out firewall issues by completely disabling it and checking again. The problem stil occurs. Googling for networking problems in vista lead me to two possible issues which are given below: 1)Disable DHCP broadcasthttp://support.microsoft.com/kb/928233 2)Disable TCP/IP autotuning. This will make it compatible with older routers which don't support non-standard packet sizes.http://www.mydigitallife.info/2007/03/22/disable-tcp-auto-tuning-to-solve-slow-network-cannot-load-w... I have tried both and they have reduced to the problem to the extent that I can stay connected for a longer time. But I still suffer from arbitrary disconnects. I have specified the IP address to match, that which is assigned automatically to me, but still it doesn't help.  Interestingly, if I try searching for any hosted games on LAN, I lose the connection immediately. What could this mean? If it helps, I connect to the Internet through a specified proxy server.I don't need to do that for LAN functionality, only for the Internet. Right now, I am looking at possibly disabling the Teredo Tunneling interface. No idea if it would help. Please giv... Read more

Just spoke to Lenovo support about it. She was very helpful but unable to assist me. Wanted to sell me recovery media for a ridiculous $60.Anyway,I have some issues with this computer after downgrading to Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit from Windows 8.1. Brightness controls don't work. At full brightness, using the slider on WIndows 7 or the physical brightness up/down on the keyboard does nothing. Thankfully it's not stuck at minimum brightness, however it's gonna burn my eyes out when I use the computer at night lol.2. The Dolby Home Theater v4 program that came with it, I can't find a place to download it. Remote support attempted to install OneKey Theater (not sure what that has to do with anything?) but it won't even run. Here's the thing I want: http://www.dolby.com/us/en/consumer/technology/pc/dolby-home-theater-v4.html3. Ugh the mouse on this computer sucks. Never had such a bad touchpad before, but it seems even worse under Windows 7. Yes, the laptop has a touchscreen but that's not always useful. Any way to fix this would be appreciated. This is my 4th Lenovo laptop (previous one, still have it in fact in some ways liked it much better than this new one, was a Lenovo IdeaPad V570). Before that I had a Lenovo ThinkPad T61, and before that (when it was IBM), I had an IBM ThinkPad X31... I received my P500 Ideapad as a gift in December 2012 and in April 2013, the touchpad isn't working. When typing in any on or offline application the cursor jumps all over the place. I have tried:1. Uninstalling and reinstalling Synaptic drivers for Windows 8 & 7 - I have windows 8 on the system. - Neither fix works. 2. Playing with the settings - that doesn't work. Now my solution is to use a wireless mouse and disable the touchpad. This is unacceptable to me! The laptop isn't even one year old! PLEASE HELP ME FIX THIS! There is a video on YouTube saying you can take the laptop apart because there are static problems with P series Ideapads but I don't want to do that. Now what? Thanks! Jean

Answer:Touchscreen problems P500 Ideapad

hi jeanscheid,

Welcome to the Lenovo Forums.

If you have already tried the following::
1. updated the touchpad driver from the Synaptics Website
2. reconfigured the touchpad sensitivity

Have you checked if the issue happens only when your connected on the AC adapter? If this is the case, check this article as it's similar to your issue.

Hope this helps

I just received my new IdeaPad 310 15ABR and it seems that the battery has some sort of problem because it lasts around 1h30 (or less!). This laptop was replaced because of this battery but now I think it is a problem with the IdeaPad 310 15ABR series. I was going to calibrate the battery with the aid of Lenovo Settings app, but my version (3.155.0.0) doesn't have the calibration button. How can I calibrate the battery within this version?

I have a one year old Ideapad 500S - 141SK with mousepad problems.  Everything worked well until recently, when the mousepad suddenly got far too sensitive.  I have changed to as little sensitive as possible, but this does not work - it seems like the sensitivity is the same regardless of the settings. I can see in other forums that deactivating the "click-funktion" may solve this problem.  But I do not find any place to do this...   I also have an other problem with the pad:  Sometimes it seems like there is "sand" under the pad.  I don't know if there is a connection between these two errors.  A theory:  May be small particles (crumbles etc?) gets under the mousepad because the sealents are not good enough? Anyone else who have experienced this and know why? I would be very thankful if anyone out there could help me

Hi all, about a week I have a new laptop Lenovo y500 with GeForce GT 650 SLI.I am pleased with the performance of the laptop, and I think that is the best possible choice in this price range.Battlefield3 works perfectly in FULL HD resolution and settings HIGH.However, I have a little problem, I do not know if there is something wrong with the drivers or the hardware. From time to time, for example, playing League of Legends, browsing websites or switching view from Battlefield3 to windows pops up an error that the graphics driver has stopped working but has regained its proper operation. For a moment, the screen goes black and returns to normal. i installed the various drivers from geforce site such as 310.90 WHQL, 313.96 Beta or from the manufacturer Lenovo dedicated Nvidia Video Driver for Windows 7 (64-bit) - IdeaPad Y400, Y500 dated 04 Nov 2012, none of them help and the problem still occurs. What do you think ? problem is bcs of the driver or bcs of hardware? maybe something wrong with the motherboard or other component drivers? or maybe just some settings have to be set ?? I will be very grateful for your help, what you sugest to do ??i bought new Y500 without any windows or drivers included, installed Windows 7 Home Premium x64 and all drivers from lenovo driver site.it gets more and more annoying the longer I use the laptop Hope to get some info from you what steps should i make to remove this driver problem ;(

I'm having USB issues with my new ideapad running Win8.1 x64. I'm all up  to date on drivers (as far as I know), but my iPhone will connect/disconnect every second, an old USB HDD shows up as "USB device descriptor failed" which implies that its broken, but it works on my other laptop that is still on Win 8. Having searched around the internet, I cannot find a solution that works.. One user I found with the same issue but on a dell laptop, resolved it with a chipset update. Has anyone else any ideas how I can fix at least my iPhone problem?Or do I have to wait for a fix from Lenovo? Surprised not to see anyone else complaining about this..

I purchased this laptop in May of 2012. It's been a great computer until recently the keys on the keyboard have started to fall off and sometimes will not work even when pressed in very hard. I am disabled and mostly confined to the bed so I spend most of my time on this computer. It's to be expected that this is happening as a result of how much I use it. I got a few replacement keys but have not installed them yet. I need to know if purchasing a new keyboard will fix the issue of the keys not working. I found a replacement on amazon for 18.99. The link is here. Will this fix the problem of the keys not working sometimes and the keys falling off? Thank you.

Helo everyone!i am new here!i have two problems with my new laptop 1.My system start up is slow and when i am telling that i mean that when i turn on my laptop it takes about 1 and a half minute for it to show the desktop(i know that 1 and a falf minutes anr not so slow but my system can do more i think) 2.after some days of use i hear a noise from the hard drive and its not clicking but is like wistling and when i play games like nfs the run it make MUCH more noise these are my two problems and i am almost sure that somwone is going to help me here!(hope) Thanks for your time

Answer:My IdeaPad Y560P laptop problems

1, startup speed depends on what you have starting up with your computer, antivirus and anti malware can add quite a lot to the startup time. not much you can do about it. programs like Soluto (just google it) will give you an easy to understand chart of how long things take to start and what you can pause (stop from starting) or delay.  if you dont want to use MSconfig to remove programs from starting up, Soluto is safer and easier. 2, are you sure this isnt just the fan in the laptop speeding up due to the extra heat being produced from the CPU and graphics chip?

I own a Ideapad Y500 purchased in Nov-2012. It was working fine until this week and now the keyboard behaves weirdly while typing. The following things happens and it is not consistent with keystrokes. It happens 1 in 50 keystrokes. 1. while typing it adds up few more characters. 2. suddenly the browser is minimized. 3. when using chrome automatically find option is selected (Ctrl+f) and i can find "8TY][" in there. Also the capslock get's on during this. 4 suddenly while typing the cursor move the first letter and automatically types "ew-uiop". any help on this is appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Answer:Ideapad Y500 keyboard problems

You are not alone.  I had the same issues, the worst for me was the numpad where it would throw random ````` when hitting the "6" key.  Add spaces with the 8 key and a bunch of other wierd stuff.  The way I fixed the issue was put electrical tape on the touchpad.  Theory being that the Elan touchpad has major shielding issues and is causing interference with the motherboard which in turn causes the keyboard to go crazy.  I don't know if you want to risk your warranty to fix it yourself or if you want to wait for a replacement from Lenovo.  This is a great laptop, can't believe something so simple can cause such a headache.  Do a search on my posts or go read up on it in the touchpad thread.  Good luck.

So I have scoured the forums for a solution and I am starting to think that it might just be a hardware problem, but has anyone had trouble connecting their Ideapad y580 to a tv via HDMI? I use Windows 7 Ultimate, and it has worked in the past--It just randomly stopped working and I haven't been able to figure out why or how to fix it. My NVidia control panel only has 3d Settings which is a bit weird because it looks like other people have more tiers of options. My computer was purchased near the end of 2012. Anyone know of solutions? Would really appreciate some help. Thanks in advance!

How do I get in touch with Customer  Relations group? I have a G570 (4334) that is one month old. Sent it to repair because the Lenovo logo on the outer cover was coming off (loose on the end where the "o" is). Sent it to repair center in Grapevine with instruction in box and on repair ticket to replace the logo. Took almost 2 weeks. I just received it this morning and they ripped the logo off (bent in while removing it) and Super Glued it back on (glue all over the top with the original logo). The unit came back in far worse shape than I sent it (actually sent it in fresh out of the box condition). I called and told technical support and they said I would have to send it back. I told them that is not acceptable not is the way I received it back. talked to a Supervisor who could care less. He would file a complaint and I might get a response back in 3 -4 days. This is not the way to keep customers. I currently own 5 Thinkpads and this is not the support customers should be getting. Makes me rethink what my next laptop will be. I spent over an hour on the phone with "India" trying to get to Customer Relations and you can guess where that got me - nowhere......

After a while I noticed a vertical line down the monitor and the resolution was not as good as my old HP but, as I had put in so much effort (and money) into setting it up, and because I need a computer for my job (could not be without it for days), I delayed in sending it back. Now it is out of warranty and the resolution and vertical line problem is still there, I googled the issue but could not find a solution. I am very disapointed with the Lenovo product and would hesitate before buying another Lenovo product. Has anyone out there had this problem and how can I fix it?

Hello, I own a Z500 IdeaPad, my bluetooth device stopped working, I tried with LSC to see the problem, but it freezes. I tried to reinstall bluetooth using drivers from Lenovo site, but it was useless. i unintalled my old LSC, and downloaded a new one (Iscsetup_x64x34002), ran it, but it says "product detected is not a Lenovo product".Can you help me, please.Thank You.
