Laptop Charging Port Broken---Paid for Support---Got No Support

Question: Laptop Charging Port Broken---Paid for Support---Got No Support

I paid for 3 years of support and accidental damage in home support. Together, it cost around $400 on my new XPS laptop. Afew months after I bought XPS 15 9560, I pulled out the charging cord, and a round piece of plastic that was inside the port came out too.
I called technical support at 5 pm EST, and received someone in Southern India. I gave them my information, and they confirmed that I had service. They then fought with me for 15 minutes, telling me I could NOT have any in home service. The representative, who kept calling me by my first name (no respect) said I had to send my laptop to a depot in Texas for them to identify the issue. Finally, after I insisted, the representative, S. Sirya Kiran, FINALLY allowed me to get in home support IF I sent him photos of the damage. I did. Finally, I received an email telling me to select a date for service, which I did, 12/18/17 between 9 am and 1:00 pm .
I took time off and waited. No one came by 11:30, or called. So I contacted World Wide Tech Services. They then told me they didn't have enough techs to handle my area, so they were NOT coming. I asked why no one gave me the courtesy of a phone call and they had no answer. They said a new company, Unisys, would contact me. (I doubt they ever will.)
Is this what Dell gives people for their money as far as support and accidental damage in home service for $400? This is an outrage.

Preferred Solution: Laptop Charging Port Broken---Paid for Support---Got No Support

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer:XPS 15 Charging port plastic center broken, no support

You may have to pay extra for North American-based support and those come with the business-class Dell PCs. Not to say that your experience will be any different, but at least their English would be more understandable.
The XPS are considered consumer-class.

I was wondering if anyone here had succesfully charged+USB hosted with the yoga book via a USB y cable or a charge and data hub? I'm an artist and I recently invested in a windows Yoga Book. I often have a USB drive, keyboard and mouse connected to the device via a powered USB hub. This is great, except for the fact I can't charge my yoga book while I do this- so the time I can spend working on projects that require both the keyboard and realpen is limited (and I like to really hunker down for many hours at a time. If I'm not using it it charges up to full in about 2 hours, which isn't bad in the great scheme but it's not always great).I know some devices support simultanious USB charging and USB hosting, but it's unclear to me if the yoga book's USB hardware in particular does. I checked the specification sheet for the intel xHCI chipset, but I'm not an engineer and the 500 pages didn't convey much to my tiny brain at all, which is why I'm asking here.

I bought TPS230U in may2013, and one monthe ago, the laptop just turned off by itself and wont turn on anymore. I had tried troubleshoop refresh and resetting options but it doesnt work.
My warranty certificate is still valid for itnernational support (now I live in  Brazil), so that, I called Brazilīs support (My laptop ID is: Type 3347 2GU S/N xxxxxxx 13/02.
At the first time I contacted by phone, the attendant asked me to (once again) turn off the laptop  and call back again. Well, I did it, adn (of course) it didnt work. So I called once again. The second the new clerk said I should buy a cd or dvd ( which could not be via USB stick ) , download from other computer and copy  an image file  that lenovo would understand the problem . I explained that I had not cd to record that moment. But he was very rude, and told me that it the  support goes to my house and concludes that there is a software problem and not hardwa, I was supposed to pay for the visit. So, I went to a store and bought a recordable CD , recorded the ISO file and got home to insert it into the laptop and....for my surprise,  my laptop doenst have any  entry for CD ! I feel that lenovo has been really disrespectfull with me and all I want is to have a simple support to my laptop, but I still couldnt have. Pleaase let me know how can I solve this problem before my waranty term expires!!!

I cannot fix my problem with the wireless card. Lenovo seems not to even have paid out of warranty tech support. Is there anyone who can suggest someone to call and pay to troubleshoot my problem? I'm sure it's a solvable problem, but I haven't gotten an answer in the forums and will gladly pay to resolve my issue. Oh, and I just went through the link on this site to find technical support, which gave me a list of local providers. After reaching #26 on the list who also is not a tech support company, I gave up. Most numbers were not in service and one didn't know what a Lenovo computer was. This is pretty well astonishing. Thanks.Message Edited by sbilheimer on 03-30-2009 11:54 AM

I haven't been too impressed with GeekBuddy. A guy on it who dealt with me wanted me to get rid of all my programs that he wasn't familiar with, including Kingsoft PC Doctor. (That program gives me a very neat little bar that shows percentages for CPU and memory usage and shows you the most demanding programs on both categories if you hover the cursor over it.) He came across as arrogant and abrasive.

Answer:Is there a paid tech support service really worth subscribing to?

Hey, you can do everything they do. First, ask yourself a bunch of questions about your problem, then answer them. Sit back and pretend you're on hold for 5-10 minutes, then ask yourself the very same questions. Hold for 5 minutes then open and close a bunch of control panel applets and root around in the control panel for a while. Hold for another 10 minutes and finally, decide that the only solution to your problem is to reformat your drive and reinstall Windows. Piece of cake.

If you think this story is too long, please jump to the end for the executive summary. I bought a Thinkpad Yoga 15 a little over a year ago. I live in Belgium, but close to the Netherlands and Germany border. I bought my laptop in Germany as it was the only place in a 200 km radius that had the laptop on display. After slightly more than a year, the middle part of the power connector on the machine broke. Not because of a fall or something else, just daily use. The machine itself basically moves from the downstairs desk to the upstairs desk, so the only thing that happens that the power cord is removed and reinserted at its new station. This is covered under European Warranty Law, but as I had a 3YR NBD Warranty Extension, I expected this to be fixed without problems. I created a ticket through the (rather archaic) ticketinterface, and expected to be contacted the next day. However, it took 7 days for an IBM Global Services employee, to whom Lenovo apparently outsourced their technical support, to contact me. I was asked to provide some photographs of the problem and to e-mail them to the support person ? he neglected to provide an e-mail address. The ticket system does not support attachments. As a workaround, I uploaded the pictures to my Google Drive and put the link in the ticket tool. This was not seen by the support person, who had told me that a technician would stop by the next day. I made sure there was someone home, but no technician showed up. This was, it turned... Read more

Hi there, I am an IT technician at a UK primary school and we ordered 3 Lenovo L530 laptops for teachers to use back in January. One of the laptop's charging ports have become very loose, meaning the cable constantly falls out and has gotten to the point where you cannot charge the laptop at all anymore, even if you hold it in. We'd like the laptop either replaced or repaired, but I don't really understand the system in place for this. Am I supposed to use this IBM esc thing? Is it going to cost us money to get the laptop fixed? I should hope not considering it is under half a year old and is now non-functioning. If someone could point me in the correct direction I'd appreciate it. Thanks.

I recently tried to contact Lenovo support for help with my computer and they hung up on me twice.  Also, I posted my problem on here and the MOD deleted my post and all my other posts where I posted in other people's who had the same problem.  I have a Thinkpad Edge 15 and everytime I plug it in to charge my computer runs slower.  My cpu usage rises to between 90-100%.  If I am not doing anything when it is charging then nothing is wrong, but if I try to use word, youtube, skype or anything else, my computer starts to freak out.  Also, I have noticed that when I plug it in and it says "plugged in, not charging" it runs fine, but when it says "plugged in, charging" that is when I start seeeing problems.  I have run every type of diagnostic test I can find on my laptop and it passes them all.  Even the thinkvantage tools.  In the power manager I have my settings set to perfomance when plugged and everywhere else I can see that option I change it to that.  Nothing seems to work and I have yet to receive any type of help.  My batter is 65w or 60w I cannot remeber which number it is, I know it is not 90w.  I am very dissappointed in Lenovo right now even though I have alwasy liked there computers.  This experience is causing me to never want to get a Lenovo again.  I understand that every computer producer will have there problems, but I am tired of not receiving any help from Lenovo's support.  Any help would ... Answer:Edge 15: while charging 100% CPU? Support?

Hi Big Rod,

The easy way out of this would be for you to see if you can beg or borrow a 90 watt adapter and see if it still does the same thing.  The obvious problem is that it only does this when the battery is charging, that seems to be a power problem.

You have all your power settings set to high performance and that's where I have all my computers set at, but at those settings, your adapter might not be putting out enough juice to handle the requirements of the computer and charge the battery at the same time. And it's probably not a defective 65 watt charger.  It just might not be putting out enough watts.

Adapters are relatively cheap.

Hello. I have a dell inspiron 5559 laptop. A few days ago I dropped it on the floor while charging and the port was hit by the ground. The charging port became a bit loose but it was working fine. But after some days it started showing "pluged in not charging". I took it to my local dealer and after diagnosis they said the power core (which supplies power to motherboard) is damaged and need to be replaced. But the parts are not available in the local market yet. So he suggested me to replace the charging port and charger jackk with parts from a different model. Does it work? Is It safe? Mine is 65 watt adapter with small radius pin and the replacement will be 90 watt adapter's jack (bigger radius) and port. My expert says this will just pass the power from charger to motherboard. Is he right? Should I go with his suggestion?

Hello, Yesterday I opened my x61 tablet to notice the hinge giving an incredible amount of resistance, and also that the more i opened the hinge, the bezel began warping directly where "X61" is written.  Luckily I noticed the strange behavior before opening it all the way or I would have damaged the bezel.   I painstakingly removed the bezel using the CRU maintenance guide only to find that the hinge was completely broken on one side where it attaches to the screen.   It looks like a pretty solid piece of metal, yet it had been completely torn away, so that as I opened the laptop, the broken piece would be pushed forward into the bezel (thus the resistance/warping)   I've removed the broken piece so that I can open my screen all the way, though the hinge now feels very loose (being physically attached on only one side) and I fear the extra strain on the undamaged side will only hasten its demise. My warranty is valid for another month, but I'm currently living in Japan and wanted to make use of the International Warranty service.   The Lenovo Japan representative told me that my warranty won't cover a broken hinge.  I was flabbergasted that the most important mechanical piece of my *tablet* x61 (without the hinge, there is no tablet!) isn't covered under warranty.  Is this the case if I tried to have it serviced in the US as well?   Or is this only the case because I'm trying to service it in Japan? I've treated this... Answer:Broken hinge, IWS support

Welcome to the forum! Unless your tablet has accident protection warranty upgrade, this type of a repair is not covered anywhere in the world. I believe that any part, hinge included, can be purchased from Lenovo and/or re-sellers. Good luck.

I bought a HP Spectre x360 13t last June, with the hires screen. Today, as I was sitting here working on it - a part of the backlight went out. Now there is a dark streak from top-to-bottom, about 2 inches wide - about 1/5 of the way from the left edge of the screen. It does not seem to be affecting the normal operation of the computer, and I can tell that the color is still functioning, but the backlight is off. It literally happened without me even touching it (I was reading a web page when it blinked off - and I heard a 'pop" sound - so it sounded like a lightbulb burned out...) What do I need to do to get it fixed?

Hello folks.

After much head scratching I have discovered that the wifi 6300 card by intel featuring tri band connectors is no longer supported by them and broken in windows 10 creators update.

The symptoms are identical on two laptops.

When attempting to connect to a netowork you are prompted for a password
Once entered it thinks for a while then says could not connect
Now it says there is no wifi networks found. Restarting the pc and they are seen again but only for the same problems to occur.
Intel have confirmed these tri band cards are 'end of life', which is somewhat frustrating as this was the last card made in the tri band configuration, there is no replacement.
I have inserted a wifi 7260 card which only has two antenna in one of the machines and sure enough I get wifi again, however the bluetooth then misbehaves, saying that dell bluetooth module could not load error 10.

This is all very frustrating:

Windows 10 offers the latest software and security updates is fast and much nicer to use than 8 and quicker than 7. Its inevitable that end users will upgrade.
Windows 10 forces updates on users, there is not really a way to stop them
I have two perfectly functional i5 and i7 laptops here which function as modern fast hardware in all other aspects
decisions by large corps means that one of the most important aspects, wireless connectivity is no longer supported and no longer works
There is no other option, no other hardware, so far as I can ascerta... Read more

So I installed Dreamweaver 8 and help brook (gets the "internet explore cannot download / from help" error). I googled the issue and found a solution that edited the registry using the below values.

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.xml]
@=?xmlfile?
?Content Type?=?text/xml?
?PerceivedType?=?text?

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.xml\OpenWithList]

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.xml\OpenWithList\winword.exe]
@=?"

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.xml\PersistentHandler]
@=?{7E9D8D44-6926-426F-AA2B-217A819A5CCE}?
Well, this worked for the admin, but help is still broken on my standard account (and on the new one I made as a test).

The problem is that when I go to regedit under my standard account it gives different keys than the admin account (.xml content type is set to application/xml instead of text/xml. I can't change the setting when I open regedit as a standard user and when I open it as and administrator the registry shows what it should (the code above). Does anyone know how I fix this?

Thank you

Hi there! I had an incident today morning. The battery icon had showing the charger had been disconnected and the battery level had reducing. I pulled out and put in power plug. Then I restarted Windows 10. Then I turned off the laptop (Thinkpad P50). I found that power led indicator near power socket at back became on (orange) when laptop was off.  When I turn on the laptop then power led became off. I checked charger voltage and it was OK. Next I detached battery, waited few minutes and put in back. Nothing had helped. So, at last I called support (in Poland). They advised me to check BIOS version. I have 1.46, so they recommended me to upgrade BIOS and they sent me email with the link to download. They said, that if BIOS upgrade not fixed the problem they would send technician for repair (I have on-site warranty). Advise was WRONG, because BIOS upgrade cannot run without charging. Instead of calling support again for on-site repair I tried last time on my own to fix it and I found that the problem was Windows 10 AIRPLANE MODE turned on accidently! So, I clicked that icon and have got charging again!

I had at least 10 different Thinkpads in the past and loved the support Id get whenever I needed something. Now I got the Yoga2Pro and I ran into a problem after installing fresh Win8.1 Enterprise: I need the Lenovo Yoga Software Suite (Transitions, Motion Control, etc.) for the computer to work properly, and it can't be found anywhere so I called.  I talked to two different people - both expertise didn't exceed the information available on the marketing materials on Lenovo.com, they both told me the software I am asking doesn't exist ... had I stayed on the line longer, I would probably be questioned whether the laptop I have in front of me actually exists too. I understand it's a brand new system and apparently Idea systems are no Thinkpads ... but who do I turn too regarding support, I don't think I am asking for much

I bought a dell pc april 2004 with a 3 year guarantee, cant remember the exact details and have lost the invoice. I thought it would cover software/tech support over the phone and then a call out for hardware ie change a part. Imagine my amazement when I had to pay to be told to load 3 drivers!!! I installed all the other software myself but as it was written nowhere for these particular drivers I had to ask. In fact it was simple as you choose those with a tick against from a resource CD. I had to load, chipset, video, and network. It took about 5 mins. My point is DELL support will only too happy to go for a complete re-install as that will make money for DELL. Why can't DELL put this information in the MANUAL. Its a bit like charging for telling you where the oil cap is in a new car. They give a 30 day guarantee for the software. I bet they do. I complained but got nowhere, although they did want to charge me the full amount at first but I argued and got it reduced. I wont go for a 3 year again. sanap

Answer:when did dell start charging? what is tech support

"Dell does not give a warranty guarantee protection for: * damage caused by incorrect installation, use, modifications or repair by any unauthorised 3rd party or yourself; * damage caused by any party (except Dell) or other external force; * fitness for any particular purpose; * 3rd Party Products, Software and IM specified by you. You will receive the warranty or licence for these products directly from their manufacturer or licensor; * any instruction given by you and correctly performed by Dell."As you needed to install drivers it looks like section one covers this, most if not all PC suppliers will have a similar clause. They simply don't cover repairs necesitated by user damage and modification soft or hardware. The problem appears to be that your expectations exceeded the reality and given the fact that you can't remember the details and haven't kept a copy of the Terms and conditions, I don't think there's really anything helpful that forum members can offer. Caveat emptor, sorry.

Memtest86 works great to ID a bad memory module. But the only recourse with a Windows system is to throw away the module and replace it, which is spendy (and more likely with more RAM/stick) and very wasteful (if only a few addresses are defective, as is common). With Linux, Rick van Rein and Michal Schmidt built a sister program for Memtest86 to support RAMs with defective addresses, the Linux kernel support for broken RAM modules (version 2.6.18 as of today). Re: http://rick.vanrein.org/linux/badram/

Does anyone know if work is being done or has been done to build a BadRAM Patch for Windows similar to the BadRAM Patch for Linux?

Also, van Rein built an extension for Memtest86 to print badram=... to ID the specific bad RAM addresses, lines that can be entered on the next boot of a Linux system with the BadRAM Patch, so it knows the bad RAM addresses. Is anyone working on a similar extension for Windows?

If your unit is new you will find all drivers in a folder in your drive. They are usually the latest compared to what you can find in the download site.

Hardware Virtualization is not usable on the IdeaPad Z710. The CPU and the chipset both support VT-d. There's even an option in the BIOS to enable it. But the BIOS does not provide the required DMAR ACPI table do make hardware virtualization work. You can enable it, but without the DMAR table the OS can't make use of the hardware. This is clearly a BIOS bug and should be fixed.

Answer:IdeaPad Z710: virtualization support broken

I have same problem. Is there any solution on the way?

At Ģ200 today on Special from PCW this is IMHO a good-value colour laser printer with duplex. I paid Ģ360 for one from Simply last October.Just before Xmas it seized up in "Processing Mode" and subsequently all printing is defaced.Samsung's on-site engineer came on 4th January, did not identify why it seized up but reported that a new OPC drum and yellow toner cartridge were required and should be supplied FOC by the vendor who "might be difficult".He was right there. Simply Customer Service proved very hard to contact and when at length I did they denied responsibility and transferred my call to Samsung.Samsung insist that the parts are "Consumables" and I must buy replacements (for about Ģ200!)The printer comes with low-capacity toners but page count shows barely 50% used. How can I best proceed?

I bought the notebook last December with 1-year warranty in the US.Now I'm working in Vietnam and my screen is broken. but it isn't covered although I still have 4-month warranty (stated on the Hp support assistant). I have contacted the local support center and they refuse to cover this under warranty even though my notebook still has 4 months until the warranty period ends, unless I submit the original invoice (which I lost 2 months ago) after moving. How can I solve this problem and guarantee my warranty rights?

Like many, others, I have the faulty hinge issue on my laptop. Broken hinge and top and bottom case is pried apart. The unit was never dropped or abused in any way; the hinges are faulty and the plastic holding them breaks from normal opening and closing the lid. I was on the phone with HP support for an hour with no luck; they couldn't even verify my serial number and product number. Very dissapointed in this and still no way to fix it. Please help.

I've noticed a few posts on this issue (lenovo Y50-70 touch screen hinge breaking).  I bought my laptop via Amazon in July 2015 so it should still be under warranty (even though the tech support website says it is not....it also thinks that the warranty started in January 2015).  I, however, have had zero success with contacting technical support for help (I talked to a representative on the phone; she couldn't help me but said I would be called withing 48 hours.  It has now been 168 hours and I've received no phone call; I also submitted a request via the web 72 hours ago and have received nothing.  And I can't get anywhere with the online "contact us" since it won't recognize the serial number of my machine).  Anyone have a phone number or other suggestions?  At this point, I'm very frustratred with (a) the product and (b) the technical support from Lenovo.

Does anyone know the part number for a set of hinge/display supports for the T110-121?

Mine broke last week and I can't seem to source a replacement or suitable alternative.
Thanks in advance.

Answer:Satellite T110-121 - broken hinge/support bracket

Huh... it is not easy to get such information but, in my opinion, you don't need it. all Satellite T110 have the same hinges and there is no difference.
Different can be only mainboard and some other hardware components like HDD, Ram WLAN card and so on.

Basic stuff like hinges is the same. I don't know where do you live but try to use Google for your country and check if you can find ?Hinge Bracket Set or Laptop Hinges for Toshiba Satellite T110?.

Check also eBay for your country.

Bought a fully loaded 7370 from the outlet to replace my MacBook 12 inch that seems to be unreliable when it comes to connecting anything to its only USB-C port.  Very happy with price and hardware but have a serious issue with charging it.
- Incapable of charging past ~54%, once it hits this level I get 'plugged in, not charging'- Behaves this way with the supplied AC USB-C adapter, or my WD15 hub
..Dell advised me to downgrade my BIOS (I'd updated to latest as per forum advice) but unable to do this due to hardware preventing downgrades.  They also tell me categorically that the WD15 doesn't support charging anyway, which I don't think is true but that's another matter.
Would love someone from Dell to pick this up, I can IM the support ticket number, and resolve it.  I want to keep the laptop but it has to work properly.  I'm very close to returning it and just buying another MacBook which is what everyone is telling me I should have done in the first place.
Thanks in advance!

Does the Yoga3Pro support Display Port output? I know that there is no connector, but the Intel chipset should support DP and I've seen DVI to HDMI or HDMI to DVI support using passive adapters. Have a 4k ASUS monitor with DP, DVI and HDMI ports. Unfortunately the Yoga3Pro HDMI port does not support 60Hz on 4k so I am currently stuck at 30Hz.

Answer:Yoga3Pro Dispaly Port Support

So for example would a micro HDMI to HDMI connector + HDMI cable + HDMI to display port connector work to get display port on a display port monitor?

I was trying to set-up a home network so my second computer (upstairs) can access the network through ICS via my new gaming rig. My mobo is a MSI K8N Neo4 SLI Platinum with 2 LAN ports. On is Wavell LAN and other is 1394.

The Wavell is working correctly and is currently connected to internet through my ISP cable modem. The 1394 will NOT configure for this because I get a Windows message saying TCP/IP not activated on this network connection.
The properies window shows the TCP/IP protocol and it IS checked. I can set auto detect IP or I can set it to 192.168.0.1 with subnet 255.255.255.0 as instructed from web site about setting ICS network on the 1394, but it's like Windows doesn't recognize this.

My OS is XP SP2. I've not used 1394 before so not sure if it supports TCP/IP.
The two computers are connected via a cross-over cable. The upstaris computer (also XP, but no SP2 yet)is all set with the workgroup and set to auto detect IP etc.

Any suggestions, or am I barking up the wrong tree with the 1394 port?

Answer:IEEE 1394 port can it support TCP/IP?

IEEE 1394 (Firewire) requires a very special E X P E N S I V E cable and running it
that distance will be prohibitive. Ethernet CAT5 cabling is typically ~$80/100 feet, and that's plenty enough.

The easy (&cheap) solution is a router;
modem-->router-->both PCs, both config'd to use DHCP.

Hi all, Just bought this Swift 3 laptop. No detailed product page to be found, and the manual is rather sparse (except for mostly Windows 10 info that we already have): "On Acer computers USB Type-C ports support up to USB 3.1 (SuperSpeed USB, 5 Gbps).Other USB or Thunderbolt devices with a USB Type-C connector are supported, but transfer speed may be reduced and certain functions will be disabled (such as Thunderbolt video support)." Nothing is said about USB Power Delivery. Or did I miss a reference manual somewhere? Is it fully compliant with the Power Delivery standard, so that I can charge either laptop or external devices when connecting a proper USB 3.1 Type-C HUB with Power Delivery function? (that itself is connected to a power source) If no PD-support:I'm in desparate need of charging at remote locations. With other laptops I have had great success with 19V 6A car chargers, but the Swift 3 has a charger tip of 3mm (hence model name..?), and among several multi-chargers with more than 50 different insertible tips, I cannot find this particular 3mm version! Suggestions?Acer original car charger somewhere? Thanks. Best,OlavOslo, Norway

Answer:Does the USB-C port of SF314-51-56Y4 support USB P...

..Anyone with any Acer model that supports Power Delivery?I mean, from articles I have found about the USB3.1 and USB-C standards, it looks like also supporting PD is entirely up to the vendor. The section "USB Type-C information" saying "Delivers up to 3 A at 5 V DC for USB charging", is the only point where the manual is referring to any direction of USB charging. Sad that the marketing department didn't want to be clear about this. But, has anyone actually tried charging an Acer laptop using USB-C?Not sure if testing will void warranty. So I'd better conclude that the Swift 3 SF314-51-56Y4 does not support USB PD, ref http://www.usb.org/developers/powerdelivery/.

What is the display support on the 433610W?

Answer:Display Support - Port Replicator

Displayport is type of video connector interface, like HDMI and DVI.You can choose to use either the Displayport or DVI port on the dock to connect to the monitor. Or just use the vga if your LCD don't support displayport or DVI.
----------------------------------------------------------------

The Port Replicator that you listed do not have displayport support, it only supports vga. If you need displayport, then you can connect the monitor to the laptop itself. otherwise get the series 3 dock plus.

Hi.
I have a DELL Latitude E6540 with Win7/64.   I also have a USB audio interface with its own control software.  The device doesn't play nice with Win7's USB3 drivers.  The control software can't communicate with it reliably.  I've contacted the manufacturer and they suggested to disable USB3 alltogether.  This worked.  But, now I have USB3 completely disabled in the BIOS.

I have done some research and I am curious if it is possible to force the Intel USB 3.0 xHCI driver to use EHCI (USB2.0) for a specific port?

I found some information that makes me believe it is possible, but I am not finding anybody on the Windows side of things trying to do this.   Mostly Linux users are doing this.

Can anyone help me?  As I would very much like to keep USB 3.0 support for hard drives I have, but still be able to use this audio interface on one of my ports using the USB2.0 driver.

My laptop has 4 USB ports, but they are all "SS" USB3.0 capable.

Here is the info I found that eludes to this fact:
http://superuser.com/questions/719079/usb-3-0-ports-function-as-usb-2-0-ports-on-windows-7-with-an-intel-usb-3-0-xhci

Answer:Can I force a specific port to use USB 2.0 and keep USB 3.0 support for others?

I don't think it's possible. Those 4 ports are controlled by only one card. If you change one, it will be the same for all. There is no way you can install separate drivers for each port unless probably each port is coming from separate controller cards.

Hi everyone,I have a Thermaltake BlacX Duet which hooks up to e-sata and allows you to have two drives.  The pre-requisite is your sata should support port-multiplier.   I thought the QM67 had port-multiplier support.    I'm currently only able to see one of the two drives.   Has anyone had success getting an external array on the W520?   I'd like to know your configuration. Thanks!

" So it seems the w520 doesn't support port multiplier. Can anybody confirm this?

Give me ideas. Cheaper the better. This is strictly for home use, but I am setting up a head-less ESXi server with an NFS Mount for VMs and I want to isolate traffic.

Answer:Best 8-10 port L3 Switch with VLAN support.

HP V1910. Basically a re-branded 3Com, but it will do what you want.

Also IMHO if you don't need routing you could go with a Layer 2 switch capable of VLANs like a Procurve V1810G or a Powerconnect 2816 where you can separate your traffic, you just can't route the VLANs without another device, which depending on what you need, you may not even need to route over VLANs.

My 2 year old Thinkpad R60?s right hinge broke when closing the lid causing the LCD plastic covering to snap off around that hinge. I called IBM?s EasyServ telling them my right hinge is broken and the LCD covering around that hinge snapped off. I was told that I still had 1 year left in my warranty and that the hinges are covered. I packed up my laptop and shipped it to the depot on July 16th, 2008. A week later I get a call regarding billing information for my laptop repair. I was charged $145 + tax to get my laptop repaired. I argued that repairs should be covered by the standard 3year warranty especially since I was told by the representative that it was. It took over a week for someone to get back to me and tell me that hinges are not covered under the warranty because the repair technician classified it as a user induced damage rather than manufacturing defect. My old R52 is still in rock solid condition and I have treated my R60 the same way, so I hardly consider closing a laptop lid as inducing damage to the hinges. The lady would not budge stating that there are no pervious cases proving it?s a manufacturing defect. So I gave up and paid for the repair. August 12, 2008, is the day I paid for my repairs and was told it will take 24 to 48 hours for the repairs. I called on Friday Aug 15 to find out the repair status and I was told that the hinges were placed on Order on Aug 13. After all that arguing, and being told that there are no previous cases... I have a T430s laptop and it is less than 6 months old. It starting getting blue screens within a month of purchasing it. Technical support has been helpless in trying to fix the laptop. First, tech support told me to turn update my computer daily. Then another tech support employee told me to turn OFF my auto updates. This did nothing and over a few weeks the blue screens progressively got worse. Next, tech support told me to run a diagnostic on my computer which turned up nothing. Then, they tried giving me recovery discs and a new hard drive. After that failed they took it in to replace the system board which made the blue screens worse. Then they sent me MORE recovery CDs to try to fix the problem and that also made the blue screens worse. I called tech support after this and they said they would send in a request for a replacement laptop. I was told I would hear from someone in a couple days. FIVE days later I got a called from someone asking if I wanted a replacement and I said yes. Then I was told I had to wait two more business days to get contacted about it. Another 3-4 business days later, someone called me to tell me that they would NOT be replacing the laptop despite the fact tech support could not fix the laptop. After calling tech support once again, I was told that they wanted me to send in my laptop again for up to 7 business days! This is completely unacceptable. I have just sent a thinkpad back for repair for the first time in over 20 years of owning  Thinkpad.  I have had 8 thinkpad  series laptops in my time as well as a few desktops and now lenovo phones. I am absolutely horrified with the diabolical Thinkpad support. This is meant to be business level support. I feel like I am phoning up Curry's.  Laptop sent back with hard disk in it and I am being told now that it "turned up without a hard disk in it". Now undercurrent of me lying. Original problem had not been assessed and I still don't have my laptop back after 3 weeks. Customer service agents just tell you anything they want to get you off the phone. I suppose all things come to an end but my loyalty to the Thinkpad brand is probably over now.  I am sure I am not the first. Has anyone else come across this?

Answer:Terrible Thinkpad Support Premium Prices for Sub-Standard Support. Business users avoid now.

We are Dell resellers and had placed an order for 43 Laptops - Dell Latitude 3560 with Dell on 13th June, 2016. We delivered them to our customer on Friday 17th June, 2016. On Monday 20th June we discovered that all the Laptops are faulty and are not functioning properly. They have not been able to use a single system due to touchpad issues in the entire lot
We have made innumerable calls Dell to resolve the problem, but the team is unable to identify and rectify the problem.
We have spoken to our partner account manager, regional account manager, Service Specialist and Escalation Team, requesting them to provide us with a solution at the earliest as their work is getting hampered. Our customer has to deploy the same by 1st July however they do not have any Dell Laptops functioning correctly.
How do we escalate this to the Dell management and get a replacement ASAP

Someone told me in another thread, and I also read here, that

All Wireless N routers support dual-band 802.11nClick to expand...

implying that any wireless N router can use the 5 GHz band as well as the 2.4 GHz band. Isn't that the implication?

Then why is it that when I browse routers, only some of them list both 2.4 and 5 GHz frequency, while others list only 2.4 in the specs? I want to switch my network over to 5 GHz in order to get away from all the interference I'm getting, as discussed in this thread.

So what's the real answer? Will any cheap "wireless N" router be able to do 5 GHz, (e.g. this one?) or do I need a more expensive dual band one?

Answer:Confused about router support for 5 GHz band. All wireless N routers support it??

No. The 802.11n standard supports 5GHz, but does not require it. Now if a device was 802.11ac, it will have a 5GHz radio since that standard only works on that freq.

Hello there, I'm interested in finding out more about the X220 - In particular the actual bandwidth available to the i7 Version of the X220 with it's USB 3 port. I'd like to be able to use the Black Magic Design Intensity Shuttle with this laptop, however it requires a Super Speed USB 3.0 Port. It's common for laptops to only use a single PCIe lane interconnect, giving the USB3 Port only 2.5gbps of available bandwidth. This won't be enough to allow that capture card to work  A similar situation also exists for the Expresscard slot - To be able to support Expresscard v2.0, It needs to provide 5gbps (2x PCIe v1 lanes). If it does this, It's possible I can buy an USB 3 Expresscard which will have enough bandwidth to use the card. In short I would like to know if the super speed USB 3 port can actually function at the intended speed, and is not crippled to half rate.

Started about a month ago - pops up over and over and over and over - about every five minutes or less.  I've got a Dell Studio XPS with Windows 7 Professional.  Another forum said to just uninstall Dell Support Center (Support Center Software) - but when I try to uninstall it - THE SAME STUPID WINDOW POPS UP ASKING ME TO INSERT THE SOFTWARE.  I tried doing a Browse and it's looking for DSC20.msi.  I haven't managed to find it yet.  I have at least found \Program Files(x86)\Dell Support Center but there's so many sub-directories...
I shouldn't have to be jumping through so many hoops just to uninstall a program.  This is driving me crazy and I haven't found an answer online yet.

I tried to connect my HP Compaq LE1911 monitor to my HP EliteBook 820 G3 via Display Port to VGA port, but it's not working. I tried connecting the monitor via purely VGA port in the laptop, it works fine, so I am guess it's the display port driver not supporting Windows 10. I have read the thread below, tried install sp73303.exe but doesn't work. please help.

Answer:Display Port to VGA driver support in Windows 10

Connect the HP Compaq LE1911 to your notebook only with a VGA to VGA cable.  That is how it was meant to be connected. I cannot imagine why you would do otherwise. Don't expect to see a high resolution image on an analog LCD display. It is not an option. If you want a high rez digital image on a display, then replace your LCD analog display with a display that has a DVI input and connect it.

I've been trying to install windows 7 to an external hard drive because one of my computers is effed. It's a 1 TB external hard drive that I've done the following to: Format NTFS, mark partition as active in disk management, created a bootable sector via command prompt and updated mbr, and tried using Universal USB-Instaler. This is the error I get every time I select the external hard drive to install to:

"Windows cannot be installed to this disk. Setup does not support configuration of or installation to disks connected through a USB or IEEE 1394 port.

Windows cannot be installed to this disk. This computer's hardware may not support booting to this disk. Ensure that the disk's controller is enabled in the computer's BIOS menu."

Please let me know if you have found a solution to this, thanks.

Answer:Setup does not support USB or IEEE 1394 Port

I do not believe Windows 7 can be installed to a USB hard drive.

Hi,

Well, this took me a little while to figure out. I could understand why I could receive Yahoo! mail in Outlook 2007, but not send it. After lots of conversations, I learned that Cox only supports port 25 for outgoing email, and Yahoo! doesn't accept port 25.

Any solution to this?

Thanks

Hi all,I have an ideapad Y430 278182U and a old TV which has S-video in, Composite video In, Component Video in.  Unfortunately, Ideapad doesn't have an S-video port. However, it does have the VGA port and intel 4500 graphics chipset. I'd like to know if it supports TV out using the VGA port?Additionally is it possible to get a HDMI to Component cable or HDMI to Composite cable? Awaiting a possible solution to teh dilemma at hand.Regards,Amit.

Answer:Does Ideapad Y430 278182U support TV-out through VGA port?

You will need a VGA to TV converter like this:http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=260439159370 They make all different kinds of converters so you will have to do your own research to find the features and pricepoint that works for you.

Does anyone know if the Precision T3500 supports Port Multiplier? I know my Optiplex 960's do. I have googled and looked through the two PDF's I found on the website but could find no mention. Maybe I missed something. If all else fails will try with hooking up the external drive enclosure and see if it works.
Thanks for your time in advance.

Answer:Precision T3500, support Port Multiplier?

Neither the training page nor the parts page for the 2009 Precision T3500 list a Port Multiplier. This tells me that Dell never actually tested one in this model. Hopefully another owner can post their findings.

Hello,

Is any one running Windows 7 Pro 32bit on a R700 and using the Hi Speed Port Replicator? Part No PA3838D-1PRP.

I read on a revew site that there are no Windows 7 drivers for for the port replicator.

Thanks

Answer:Portege R700 and Win 7 Port Replicator Support

As far as I know you don?t need any special port replicator driver. If this port replicator is defined as compatible for your notebook model and you use original Toshiba recovery image it will be recognized automatically and you will be able to use all available ports on this port reflector.

Hi everyone
I have a Toshiba M30 Satellite Pro with a nVidia go5200 graphic card. The nvidia webpage states that this graphic card has DVI support (http://www.nvidia.co.uk/page/fx_mobile_fb_5200.html) but I have been unable to connect my apple cinema screen to the computer.
The screen is connected through a vga to dvi plug but I don't have a "real" addaptor.

Does anyone have a solution to my problem?

Thanks
Magnus

Answer:Satellite Pro M30: Question abou the DVI port support

Hi

According to the specification this unit has no DVI-D port and there is no possibility to connect it directly to the unit. This unit has Video VGA 15pin port only. Google a little bit around. Maybe you find a ?real? adaptor.

If you find something interesting please let us know. It can be useful for other forum members.

I tried several times, this morning, to send an email to Lenovo Support through the mail form, but I don't receive any reply / confirmation with a reference number (as it should be, according to the statement you can read on the screen after filling and sending the support request form).I'd like to hear from someone how to do to receive assistance for my Lenovo AIO c 260 which doesn't boot. The pc is plugged in, it switches on (first led is on) but doesn't do anything else: screen is completely blank, no sign of booting. The third led too stays off, as does the middle one (they should blink).I don't know what to do to contact the support. The pc is still under warranty (I bought it only few months ago).

Hi, it has been over a year since I first contacted lenovo support about a screen issue and I still can't use the machine, support have been ignoring my emails for the past 3 weeks. In June 2009 I upgraded the warranty of my T60p to 5 years. This time last year a problem developed with the screen where it would simply turn off every few seconds or minutes and I would have to open and close the screen several times to try and get it to turn back on, it was completely unusable. When I called Lenovo however, they insisted that my T60p was no longer in warranty and the online warranty lookup showed the same thing. After dozens of emails, phone calls and several months later they finally accepted that it was still in warranty and agreed to repair the machine.I sent the laptop in to be serviced and collected it a week or two later and when I tried to power it on when I got home  the situation was completely unchanged, the screen was turning off just as much if not more than before.I immediately called/emailed Lenovo to complain and to arrange a repair and  once again sent it in.When I collected it this time I turned it on to find that the new screen had some pretty serious water damage or something, along both sides of the display were a series of dark splotches.Once again I contacted Lenovo to complain about the  way I had been treated and the terrible level of service I had received. At this stage, I didn't trust that if it was sent away again I would ever recei... I wish I had something to say to help you, but this is a user forum, not much other users can offer that would be of any help. Only thing I can think of is to keep calling. I can definitely understand why you should at least get an extension on the warranty, but I don't realy know anything about the case. Hopefully you'll get this resolved soon.

So I am sitting here on my MacBook Pro which in my opinion does not have any wireless issues whatsoever, it works. I still own this ThinkPad with a garbage wireless card, and I feasted my eyes on an Intel 7260 but lo and behold, it isn't on the whitelist! Scouring eBay and Amazon I did find a FRU, but would the number of that FRU be the same on the Hardware list? Lets see, well I cannot even find it. All I get are Page Not Found errors which to me is a hilarious joke of Lenovo's support. What does this mean for me? Is my X230 at a very very unnecessary end of life? Should I like, fork out Ģ1400 for an "upgraded" model that probably won't fix most of my problems? My problems is money and saving money. Should i now look elsewhere? No, because I'd rather keep my money to actually FIX my current laptop's problems (the N2200 is a garbage card and would like to replace it with something that's up to date to todays technology but that isn't happening by the sounds of it) I am frustrated with my current laptop's problems and it's having a large effect on my studies. And possibly you can also lose customers by inadequate non-existent support and failure to give us the freedom to actually let us upgrade for those who do. For those who don't, more like.

This is a General question regarding the end of support for XP. I realise at the end date the computer should be backed up in case you have to format the disc at any time after the end of the support period.

My question is does the built in Windows back up in XP when backing up the system include the installed updates? Or is it best to use third party software to do this.

shipboard

Answer:[SOLVED] End ofThis is a general question regarding the end of support for XP support

I believe Windows just backs up your personal files and won't do the entire OS. You'll need a 3rd party program to do the entire HDD.

Also you really should think about upgrading to Windows 7. Staying on XP after the end support date is not recommended as you will lose security updates from Microsoft as well as patches.

When I installed Win8 on one computer I need a H.P. printer driver. So I went to H.P. support/download did not find the needed driver so I called their Tech. support. A friendly support guy looked at my system and told me my copy of Microsoft Win8 bought at Best Buy was not a legit copy, also my system had been infected and they needed to remove my Win8 clean my system and reinstall Win8. made me a deal of a reduced price of $250US I knew this was not right so I begged them good buy went to Best Buy where I have good friends in the Geek Squad. they got the needed driver and printer works fine.
Today my Netgear routher died, called Netgear to get my lifetime warranty. This also was a support in India guy said it would cost $39US to make sure it was the router I said thanks but no thanks. Took my old Netgear router back to Best Bye where I bought it three years ago and they gave me a new Netgear router. I needed setup help so called Netger as new user also in India guy was friendly looked at my system and helped me get it setup. Then he informed me my computer was under attack and my files were being read he could fix my system and protect my files for the small sum of just $85US. Well I was using a small backup H.P. computer on the Net. hardwired and it was almost never used. So I knew it was a India Tech. support scam again.
