I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I have inherited an old Dell M6700 laptop and it's missing a hard drive. I'm wondering if that's the only thing it needs (other than an operating system installed) to make it functional, and if it's worth it for the ~$100?
I've listed some of the specs below:

Processor = Intel Quad Core i7 2.6Ghz
Memory Installed = 16384 MB
Memory Available = 16278 MB
Memory Speed = 1600 MHz

I would mostly be using the computer for 3D CAD programs, other engineering software, and some very light online gaming.

The wifi on my dell laptop seems to have failed. Intel 6300 card.
I thought it might be a driver or dodgy windows something or other so did a clean install of windows but the same issue persists:
When first starting laptop wifi networks are seen. I try to connect to mine. (Or indeed any) it asks for a password. I enter password. It asks if I want my lappy to be seen on the network, I click on ok, and it immediately says it cannot connect to this network. When I click ok it then clears all networks and says no networks found.
In device manager I can see network adaptors including the 6300 however under WAN miniport (IP) is an alert which states 'windows is still setting up the class configuration for this device code 56)
I do not know if this was the issue before the reinstall of windows.
I am starting to suspect the card is physically knackered. It seated ok etc but any hints and tips here much appreciated.

I recently bought a used laptop and when it powers on, the screen goes white and does not display anything. I connected an external monitor and it shows fine. I connected to the dell support website and did the detect my unit, which was correct then i ran the full diagnostic tests on the unit and everything, even the Nvidia km3000 2gb video card passed. does this mean that the lcd is bad? or is there a setting in the bios that can be changed? Any help or thoughts would be appreciated.
thank you

Hi all,
I have a Dell Precision M6700 and I wanted to use a 2 external monitors and the built-in LCD.  I was able to do this on my Dell M4700, but have been unsuccessful with the M6700.  I can get the built-in and either external to work, or both externals to work, but not all 3.
Many thanks in advance,

I tried to replace the cpu fan for my Dell precision M6700, with a new fan I bought on Amazon as my old fan is noisy and I noticed that the axis of my old fan seems loose. I have upgrade the Bios to A18 already. I have tried 2 new fans, the first one the fan didn't spin and the machine gave error message "CPU fan malfunction" and the test diagnostic result show cpu fan error code 2000-5011. Then I replace another new one, this time the new fan spin with an irregular pace and the test diagnostic result gave the 2000-5011 error code again!
Once I switch to my old noisy fan, it works just fine. Is there any solution for this? The first time I thought it was the fan that didn't work correctly, but I am doubtful that the second fan is a defected fan again.

Thank you in advance.

Answer:Dell Precision M6700 fan error 2000-5011

Hi BEN2014207,
What is the part# of the fan you purchased from Amazon?
You would need this fan - part# 26PND.
If multiple fans of the same part# are failing, then the controller might have failed and the motherboard needs to be replaced.

Hello,I was wondering if anyone could help me with a no boot issue on my Dell Precision M6700?I recently replaced a dead webcam on my Precision M6700, which involved a lot of digging in the machine to get to the connector. Since reassembling the machine, I'm struggling to get it to boot. I found a recommendation on the internet for laptops that won't boot:Remove the CMOS battery.Unplug the power cord.Press and hold the power button for 10 seconds to fully drain all residual power.Put the CMOS battery back in, make sure you put it in correctly.Plug in the power cord.Power up.I tried this, and the machine immediately turns on for two seconds, then off. If I then press the power button, it boots like normal and the new webcam works. However, when I shut down the laptop, it will no longer boot and I have to repeat the instructions above.I have ordered a new CMOS/BIOS battery on the internet, because I wondered if this was the issue. Any help would be gratefully received!Thank you

I have a dell m6700 laptop with AMD M6000 graphics. Battery seems to be dead. Running on Direct AC power.
Couple of days ago, the laptop booted on Intel HD 4000, windows device manager saying GPU is disconnected - visible under hidden devices.

On running boot time Dell Diagnostics, it clearly said that the battery is not able to supply power to the GPU.
I removed the battery and still the laptop boots on Intel HD 4000. GPU missing. There have been couple of times when the bios did detect the GPU. Totally random.
Now the bios is only booting on Intel HD even on direct AC Power (battery removed). HDMI port does not work either, VGA is working. Weird.
Tested on two original dell AC adapters.
Any idea why the GPU won't start when on direct AC power?

After formatting my pc (which was under W7 upgraded to W10) I have a little worry with my Wifi card.
It is recognized by Windows as being a Broadcom 802.11n, while on the dell support site, in the conf of my pc, it is a Dell (Dell EMA Wirless 1504).
I reformatted the pc, and nothing does.
Attempted to update the drivers (by hand or with the Dell Update) the same.
The wifi cuts every 30 seconds ... it's a bit ... boring :)

If the power indications are normal but there is never any video seen on the computer's display during the startup process, this probably indicates a No Video issue.
If you have a desktop computer and the monitor has its own power supply, make sure the monitor has a power indicator showing that it is turned on.
To troubleshoot a No Video issue, click on the links below:

For a notebook, press and hold the Fn key and then press the power button. This starts the pre-boot testing and will launch ePSA. ePSA will test video with a series of patterns. If they look fine but you want to test more, you can respond to the video test with "N" and ePSA will then launch the LCD BIST test. If you have a no video issue, you can either run the Fn+Power to enter ePSA or D+Power to run the LCD BIST.

I just swapped out a e5-2603 CPU and installed a e5-1620 CPU in a Precision T5600.  The PC will not boot, and prior to a forced entering to bios setup, it gives a warning/error
"Your dell current power supply does not support the recent configuration changes made .."
My PSU is a 635W - this should be sufficient, yes??
So is the 1620 not compatible with this model?

I have the following problem and searching for a solution. I have a Dell Precision M3520 with a Kaby Lake i7-7820HQ. I am using the "Dell Command Power Manager" v. 2.1.1 (latest available at the moment).

When I start the Laptop and the power manager is set to  "Optimized" mode in Thermal Management everything is fine. CPU is using turbo boost like expected and reduces the frequency if nothing todo.
When switching to "Quiet", I suppose it is working like expected, because fan is much quiter, and CPU Multiplier is limited to 22x = 2195MHz
When switching now back to "optimized" or any other profile the fan is getting louder again, but the multiplier is still limited to 22x

Only way to get this fixed is to set mode to "optimized" and restart the laptop

Anyone an idea? or is this just a bug of the power manager?

I recently purchased a Dell Precision 690 Work Station.  Here are the specs:
2 Xeon quad core CPUs running at 2.66 Mhz.
8gb of RAM, two sticks of 4 gig.
4 1TB HDDs, 7200 rpm.
Dell RAID controller card.
It came with Oracle Linux installed as the OS.  I purchased Windows 7 Pro (DVD) and have the new COA to go with it.
Do I need to initialize the hard drives prior to the install?
Will I need to specify which RAID configuration I want to use during the install?
If I add a SSD (it will accept a fifth drive) later, will I be able to put the OS on the SSD?

Answer:Windows 7 Pro install on Dell Precision 690

[at the edge of my comfort / knowledge zone]
I would be sure to reformat all of the drives before putting them into service
The RAID configuration must be in place before you start installing the OS and programs
When you add a SSD you may have to start from scratch if you want to reconfigure things.

Hi everyone,
I always get trouble when installing the win7 on my precision.
Currently it has an Ubuntu preinstalled system on it, but I want to install my windows 7 on my laptop.
I have read tons of threads about the problems I met and it turns out that it is the USB 3.0 port get me into the trouble.
There are also some posts addressing this problem but they all rely on windows system.
To be simplified, my precision 7510 only has USB 3.0 ports on it and its OS is preinstalled Ubuntu and I want to install windows 7 through USB port(They are all 3.0 ports).
If someone can help me I will be really appreciated.

Answer:How to install windows 7 on Dell Precision 7510 from USB

The system has a USB 2.0 as well as USB 3.0 ports. You can set the bios to boot to either port by changing the boot order in the system bios by starting the computer and tapping the F2 key. Once in the bios tab over to the boot screen. . Below are some links to help you  get Windows 7 installed. Once you obtain either a Windows 7 disk or Windows 7 USB key.  Once you have Windows installed you will also need to download the service packs unless they are included on the Windows 7 install Media. Also, download all Windows 7 updates.

Hello, I got this dell precision t5600 with no hard drives and I can't install windows 7 on it. I have 2 300gb hard drives it does not recognize the drives while in raid or not. I tested each drive and they both work. They are both recognized in the raid menu too. I do not have any kind of raid card installed, just the raid software that comes with the computer. Also in the windows 7 installer, it can't find any drivers. I put the correct drivers on a cd and a usb drive and it can't find them.

Hello cad4ty, first you uninstall McAffe, and use Microsoft Security Essentials - Free Antivirus for Windows.

I have done the custom settings for battery from dell power management. I have set that the battery should start charging when it is at 50% and stop charging at 80%. When the battery has charged 80%.It has stopped charging. But the discharging of the battery is not happening itself. I have to remove the ac power so that the laptop should start using battery instead of ac power. The battery should self discharge when it reaches 80% and start charging when it reaches 50%. which is not happening currently. Can any suggest any solution.

Answer:Dell Power manager Lite battery discharge issue -Dell vostro 5568

The system will use AC power in preference to battery if the adapter is connected.  If you want the system to run on battery, you must disconnect the adapter.

Dell Precision T3600
I have been trying to install Windows 7 on this machine now for two days :) I have tried numerous drivers off the support website.
This machine has two 500gb SAS drives configured with a Dell H310 SAS card.
initially I configured both drives as a raid-1 mirror, initialized both disks and set the boot options in BIOS to ata and legacy.
I then load the Windows 7 setup and has problems finding the drives. Ok I thought get the drivers to the H310 card. No matter what driver I throw at this thing it refuses to detect any hard disk.
I get a error messaged saying continue to load *signed drivers*
I have tried every driver on the Dell site, and also other suggestions with Intel drivers nothing has worked.
I get the same problem the windows installer cannot see the drives. I even unraided the configuration and same problem occurs.
This is a headache!  please is there a simple way to install windows on this heap of junk :)

This is not cookie cutter you must extract the drivers and point to them on a USB storage device unzipped.  EXE OR ZIP is not F6 READABLE.

Go to another computer that has an internet connection and click the link below to download the PERC driver for your hard disk drive (either 32-bit or 64-bit):
Save the downloaded driver to a DVD or USB flash drive or an external hard drive that can be taken to the PC that you're installing Windows to.  Its an exe rename it .zip and extract the 4 files.
Next, start the installation of Windows 7 or Windows Server 2008 R2 and watch for the Load Driver option. You will see this option on the Where do you want to install Windows? screen in the lower right corner.
Connect the USB flash or external drive to the computerthat you're installing Windows or take the Windows DVD out of the drive and put the driver DVD into the drive. (You will put the Windows DVD back into that drive after the driver is loaded)

Has anyone been able to do this?? I have bought 2 different software packages of WIN 7 64 bit, thinking there may have been something wrong with the 1st one. As far as I can tell, everything works except for the networking part. I paid for Microsoft's technical service and after 6 days about 30 mins a day, they archived the problem saying that WIN 7 did have some issues that they couldn't fix!! How about that??? I have paid 1 other servive and 1 "computer repair" place and no one knows...... You can see the NIC and assigning an IP just won't work, it keeps saying that there is another device with the same IP. You can change it to anything and it still says that. Letting it do it's own thing with obtain IP address automatically, doen't work either. The DELL Precision 690 has 2 Xeon Processors and 12gb of ram. I did finally get a install done with WIN XP Pro 64 bit. But not alot works with it, better than nothing on a $5000 computer, but still sucks. Anyone have any experience with this??? Thanks. Alan

Answer:Solved: Has anyone upgraded a DELL precision 690 to Win7 64bit?

Did you check the dell site for win7 driver support? I just checked and win7 is NOT listed as a supported os. XP, vista, and a few ver of linux are supported. When you install an unsupported os, it may work or you may have problems. You are in effect a beta tester.

The basic problem here is that dell does not use industry standard parts. Dell stuff is proprietary ie it is made to dell specs NOT standard specs. Finding a driver for any given piece of hardware can be a problem.

In this situation, I would install a supported os and be done with the problem.

The precision 5520 is available with two wireless cards, the dell wireless 1820 (when configured with ubuntu) and the Intel WiFi Link 8265 (when configured with windows 10).  I have the 1820 and ubuntu, but I also want to use windows 10.  When I installed windows 10, the card worked fine.  However, when I installed the anniversary update, the card stopped working.  In the device manager, it said that the device cannot start (code 10).  On the dell website, there are only drivers listed for the Intel WiFi Link 8265 card, and none for the 1820, so I couldn't install any drivers.
Does anyone know how to make the 1820 card work under windows 10 anniversary?

Answer:Dell Precision Rack 7910 install windows 2012 R2 and window 10 pro

You can't use server tools on a Precision. Use the individual driver packages for Windows 10 from the Precision download page, or use the individual driver packages for Server 2012/2016 from a server page that uses the exact same hardware.
Server 2012 doesn't have a "roll back" (System Restore). Not sure what the problem is, since you didn't say, but if you can't repair damage to servers, you restore from backup, not "roll back".

I've recently bought a refurbiished Dell Latiture E6430, which came with win7 pro x64. As I don't have full trust to the vendor, I've decided to reinstall OS, from the Dell's DVD (win7 pro x64 glb polish). Of course drivers detected for my tag are installed (and updated through "Dell Control | Update".
However, with reinstall I've lost ability to control how the battery is maintained. As I understand, this shall be provided by "Dell Control | Power Manager". Prior to reinstall it worked. But this app is not detected for my service tag. I've tried to install various versions that were available for this model, including recent

They won't install returning error 25025 (unsupported system). Any ideas how to tackle this?
I suspect this is not a hardware issue, as battery management worked prior to system reinstall.

Once you reinstall Windows there is an order to install drivers in the system in order for the hardware to work properly. Below is information to help you get your computer up and running . You cannot install 32 bit drivers in the system unless the specific drivers states that it will work with both versions. Sometimes I press the power button and I see it light up blue for a few seconds and then it switches off. Nothing is shown on the screen. Other times I press the power button, it lights up blue, the fan starts spinning, and then I see a light diagnostic code showing a possible processor failure according to the Dell service manual, and then the laptop switches itself off. If I let it sit plugged in and undisturbed for a few minutes then it might work if I try to switch it on. I can enter the BIOS and see in the log ASF2 Force Off. Also, I can start Windows and it runs OK as long as I don't shutdown or restart the laptop. If I shut it down or restart it then the laptop won't switch back on. What is causing this? How do I fix it?

Hi there,

We've got 3 Dell precision towers 5810 that work great, except for a possible bios bug, which I can reproduce on all machines:

I'm using the installed NIC: Intel ethernet server adapter i210-t1.
Our computers go powerless every night (mains power) after a normal pc shutdown. Every morning, when the power is back on, I want to wake up all computers in our building with Wake On Lan (WOL) by sending a 'magic packet' over the network.
This normally works well if the machine has been switched on and off with the power button / windows shutdown. But when I unplug the machine (mains power), wait and plug in the mains power again, the computer does not respond to the WOL packet. (Maybe the PCI-E NIC does not get power on plugging in the mains of machine for the first time).
It works well on the integrated (motherboard) NIC. BIOS / power / sleep state settings seem to be ok.

Answer:Wake On Lan (WOL) not working on Dell precision tower 5810 with Intel ethernet server adapter i210-t1 at first power up / after no power

File manager crashes on my Dell Precision 470 when accessing graphics files.

Would appreciate any ideas, feedback or solutions.

Dell Precision 470
Xeon CPU 2.8GHz
1 GB of RAM
XP Professional 2002 Service Pack 3
Two hard drives

A sub folder contains 20 or so jpegs, all of which may 1-2 MBs in size. I double click on the My Computer icon, drill down into the sub folder, say 3 levels down, and the file manager window crashes. Sometimes if continue to do this the window continues to crash and eventually takes me out of Active Desktop mode. My workaround is to copy the folder to that or another drive at the root level, for example, and access the files that way. This usually happens with graphics files of moderate to large size in subfolders.

Answer:File manager crashes on my Dell Precision 470 when accessing graphics files

You might have 1 or more corrupted files.
Do this first to prevent the crash
1. Click Start > Run and type regsvr32 /u shimgvw.dll and click OK.
2. Click Start > Run and type regsvr32 /u shmedia.dll and click OK.
3. Delete or move the file that is corrupted.

My suggestion is to move the 20 files to 10 different folders. You will be trying to isolate the file or files causing the crash so you can delete that file.
After you have 2 files in each folder (put them on your desktop so you can view them easily) you want to re-register what you undid in steps 1 and 2 above.
1. Click Start > Run and type regsvr32 shimgvw.dll and click OK.
2. Click Start > Run and type regsvr32 shmedia.dll and click OK.

Now try to open each of the 10 folders and see which one causes a crash.

I'm battling this weird error with several of my towers. At some point the tower gets into this state where it won't power ON. Conditions:

Plugging in the power cable won't start the short PSU test.
The power button lightly (not full blink, but very soft one) blinks about every 10 seconds.
Pressing the power button for a while causes it to flash 2,1 code.

Somehow the tower may still recover in the future.
I have the CUBE3 metal expansion enclosure connected to it. The system and enclosure works fine when it works. If I just run simple shutdown now the system would shut down, but then transition into the state listed above. The CUBE3 enclosure was still powered at the time.
Then I remove the PCIe expansion card, resit the power cable. But it doesn't help.
Unplugging the power cable (or not), waiting a bit, will recover the tower at some point.
It seems that there are some settings somewhere that have to be checked oo changed. Or a procedure to shut down the tower should be different.
Has anyone seen this before?
Any suggested solution?

So I'm in the market for a new pc and a used dell precision with a graphics card added in seems like a pretty good value. I realize that at least some power supplies on these will be proprietary, but my question is, if for the most part, they are replaceable, and if there's an easy resource to find out if they are when looking at a specific model. Thanks for any help.

Good Afternoon
Would greatly appreciate if anybody could help me with identifying the following connectors coming out of a Dell Precision 380 power supply.
(A).  White 6 pin (female)  connector (labeled P4).  Orange/Red/Yellow/Black/Black/ .   One pin is unused.
(b). Black 6 pin (female) connector (labeled P12).  White/White/White/Black/Black/Black.
Am in the process of rebuilding this PC for my brother.  As it was not me who took it apart I am trying to ensure that there are no missing parts.

I've got a Dell Precision 7710 with the Dell Precision Optimizer. It works great for when I'm using AutoCAD Civil 3D in setting up the laptop for optimization by turning off 2 cores and increasing the clock speed of the processor.
Unfortunately I also do programming with Virtual Machines. When I'm in this mode I want all 4 cores to share the load instead of 2 cores.
Is there a workflow available to go from one profile to no profile? Do I have to do a restart to switch between profiles? So if I'm doing CAD work and then switch over to programming do I have to turn off the AutoCAD profile to no profile and the restart the computer? I tried turning off the profiles and nothing changes for the cores.
Is there a way to create my own profile? Or should I pick one like 3ds Max that would utilize more cores?  Or should I not use it since it won't meet my needs?

I have a Dell XPS heating up quite alot.. is there a way to make the fans kick in at a lower temperature?
Also, in Dell's power manager > thermal management, I've set it to "cool" which could reduce performance and give more fan noise.
I've set it to "cool" but  nothing seems to have changed, so what does that "cool" setting do precisely?
Thanks for all good feedback!

I just picked up a used T3600 and upgraded to 64GB of ECC RAM (4X 16GB ECC DIMMs). Now I get a message at POST saying recent hardware changes require an upgrade to the power supply.
Will an 825 watt or 1300 watt supply from a T5600 work in the T3600?  Can anyone confirm compatibility in a T3600?
It looks like the T3600 originally shipped with a 425W or a 635W supply.
Thanks in advance!

Answer:Dell Precision T3600 Power Supply Options?

Hi _erin,
The T3600 originally shipped with a 425W or 635W PSU, whilst the T5600 shipped with a 635W or 825W. The 635W model is cross-compatible (Dell part numbers: 1K45H, NVC7F) so the 825W (Dell part numbers: DR5JD, CVMY8 ) shouldn't present any issues (however, it isn't a supported configuration)

Answer:Dell precision m60 screen monitor power setti

LadyShea, SWAG, suspect you don't really have a problem. I'd sorta expect the display to be brighter plugged in. There's likely a few volts difference between power from a wall plug and power from a battery. Usually, the wall plug is 'stronger'.HTH.Ed in Texas.

Hello, I had the Power Manager from the windows store and it was working fine until today. Today, I decided to reset windows to refresh my system (there was nothing wrong with it), Now, I install the power manager and it gives me the picture attached here:

Unfortunately, when I hit no, the program closes. If i select yes, I can only view the battery's life and not the ability to set max charge or minimum charge or adaptive  charge etc. If I try to download this same program off of Dell's website (which is compatible with 7577 NOT 7567 for whatever reason) it won't let me. The easy fix is to of course find the DPM component service but I cannot find that anywhere!! So any help will be appreciated. This is a big pretty deal, as I made an account just for this reason. I find the  dell power manager very helpful and love the program, but now I am beginning to question whether Dell intentionally makes the programs only for their latest laptops and products, which is ***.

I was trying to find a slim power adapter for my Precision 3520 with Xeon processors.  I ordered the 90-watt power adapter since the slim 130-watt adapter has a 4.5 mm connector.
I powered up the laptop and received a warning message that the 90-watt isn't enough (the laptop came with this wonky 130-watt adapter that is pretty big).  I ended up ordering a 130-watt adapter with 4.5 mm connector and I'm waiting on a 4.5-7 mm adapter to get here to make it work.
Today I thought I would try it out.  I hooked the 90-watt adapter up with the battery at 80%, opened up Kaspersky and started a full scan while also performing a backup, opened up the Netflix app and started streaming a movie, then opened up Philips SpeechExec Pro to transcribe with Dragon Medical Practice Edition in addition to the following apps: IE, Edge, Outlook/Word/PowerPoint/Excel/OneNote 2016, Sonos, Pandora, Amazon Music, Weather, Weather Channel, iTunes, Dropbox.  I was connected to an external monitor via HDMI and had the laptop lid open so the built-in screen was also on.
The 90-watt adapter was more than enough, although the charge took a long time to get to 100%.
I'm posting this in case anyone else is wanting a slim power adapter instead of the large one that comes with the laptop.  Google searches didn't find anything productive, so hopefully this will show up for anyone interested and that Googles it.

Hi, hopefully not hard questions:
Question 1:
I found the installation guide (however it's not listed at Download&Drivers site):
It's point 5. lists: Dell Control Point Security Manager - System Devices

I went to the Download&Drivers site:
Here, there are 2 files for me:
1. Dell ControlPoint Security Manager Application: It's not for M6500. (View details) True? (Why is it listed at M6500 drivers site?)
2. Dell ControlPoint Security Device Driver Pack: It's name a little different than at point 5.
Which ones do I need?

Question 2:
Point 10. lists: Conexant Modem Daughter card (MDC) Drivers (little lower name is different: Conexant D330,HDA,MDC,v.92 Modem, little lower: Broadcom USH driver)

There are 4 files at Download&Drivers site, however not D330 but D400:
1. Conexant D400 USB 56K Modem Driver: It's not for M6500. (View details) True?
2. Conexant D400 External USB 56K Modem Application:  It's not for M6500. (View details) True?
3. Conexant D400 External USB 56K Modem Diagnostics Utility: Is it driver?
4. Conexant D400 External USB 56K Modem Utility: It's not for M6500. (View details) True?

XPS 15 No Power to Unit. Tried Pulling Battery, CMBOS, Power Back,

CMBOS Voltage was 3.2V

Steps Taken
Tested Original Supply coming out at 19.7V ( rated 19.5)
Battery Voltage 11.1V to Logic Board
Power Button Tested fine for continuity when pressed
DC Jack Cable puts out the same power as what the power adapter supplies ( Was this supposed to step down the voltage?) I do know the E65XX series had less pins but put out 19v on some wires and 12v on the others) So I was thinking maybe the DC Adapter wasnt putting out the correct power?)
Ram was seated properly and tested for function.
It does not show any signs of power in terms of lights on the board and will not turn on.
Take tried to run it without battery. without battery and ram for lights, without one ram in each slot, with and without cmbos. have already tried taking out all electricity to board and taking out the remaining electricity in hopes to boot. Still no sign of life.

I need to get more info about the board to test the rest of the board.

If you press the power button first time: the power button get's a amber light & 1 3 4 diagnostic get a flickering amber light.
If you turn the computer off and press the power button again it will turn on and work as normal.
I have been able to diagnose that the PSU is the problem.
I would like to know if I can continue to use these desktops in their current state? Are there any potential consequences / risks involved?
Also can the PSU can be repaired? If so how?

Thank you in advance.

Answer:Dell Precision T3600 Power Supply (PSU) amber light issue

Manual indicates it may be PSU cable related:

PSU Cable Failure
All PSU cables may not be properly connected to system board. (PS_ON asserted, missing a main power rail)

Did you try to reseat the motherboard's PSU cable(s)?

So, initially this Dell came setup with a factory OS on the PCIE based NVME drive.
Recently we re-installed the OS, but the OS setup was not seeing the NVME drive, yet, Bios was reporting it. So we setup the OS on an EVO SSD. We then cloned it over to the NVME after realizing Windows was detecting its presence. Everything worked well, we removed the Samsung Evo and the PC had used the NVME based cloned OS for a few days, but now it decided to lose track of the NVME and only boots into start up repair. Nothing you do does anything; last known good config, restore(none created), chkdsk(doesn't find issues), SFC /Scannow doesn't run(Windows Resource Protection could not perform the requested operation). I then noticed that startup repair fails with a Log file "D:\WINDOWS\System32\Logfiles\Srt\SrtTrail.txt.
Clearly the OS now thinks the secondary 2TB drive is now C. I can't help but wonder if this was the reason I couldn't natively install the OS onto the NVME in the first place. There must be some startup delay on the NVME where the order gets shuffled around. Yet, the NVME is still the first boot device in Bios. so nothing has changed there. Ran diags and both drives pass. I unplugged the secondary SATA-based 2TB drive and that at least causes the startup repair failure to end with "Log file C:\WINDOWS\System32\Logfiles\Srt\SrtTrail.txt"
I've had these sort of issues with Precisions in the past.  They aren't as friendly with drive re-... Read more

Hello so my laptop (Precision 1350 Workstation) with windows 7 which i bought in September 2016 stopped charging after I used it with my docking station . It worked for a week or two prior to this and then I started getting a notification every time I put the laptop on the docking station that said "ac power adapter not recognized , use adapter of 65 watts or above" but the adapter was 130 watts. Even when the laptop was taken off the docking station and the ac adapter was just plugged into the wall it still won't charge at all. I made sure the bios was updated 1.11.4 and even checked for driver to update and ran the online diagnostics there was no problems but it still won't charge. A tech came out last Wednesday and replaced the motherboard and this fixed the problem for about a day but then when I put it back on the docking station the same problem occurred and it still won't charge. I even tried it on a different docking station but the same make and model as mine and the problem persists. Does anyone know what is wrong? The phone tecnicians and the technicians don't seem to know what to do

Hello, we have a dell 3510 laptop that no matter what we tried we were unable to install the Windows 7 64 bit enterprise edition. I worked with Dell on this and even they could not get it to work., We switched the BIOS from UEFI to Legacy and switched the RAIDon to AHCP and there was the third thing which I have a hard time recalling, I think it was boot off of CD, and the setting was set correctly. We spent hours trying to do this to no avail. I tried the DVD and USB, at one point it looked as if it was going to install the O/S but we got a box that came up asking us to search for Drivers, I was able to see the 'C" drive and the "X"
It asked to Load driver, but no matter what we tried, it did not work. Below is as far as I was able to get. I even ran the F6 Driver Utility and still it was a no-go.
I had another PC to try it with but when I switched from UEFI to Legacy it was as if there was no OS at all and I had to switch it back.

So my company orders laptops from Dell, and as per usual ordered one downgraded from Win 10 to Win7.
In this case it is a Dell Precision 7510 with an Intel i7 and an SSD Lite On CX2 NVMe 512 GB. The SSD failed pretty quickly and Dell sent someone to replace it. I think he also replaced the Motherboard. Unfortunately trying to boot our Win
7 Pro image failed because this machine has only USB 3, and the standard Win 7 image has no drivers for USB 3. So the guy left before we got to installing Windows, which I now regret. I added USB 3 drivers to the image and got as far into the install as selecting
a drive but no drive is found ?and it invites me to load a driver for mass storage.
But I cannot find a driver for any Lite On SSD. I?ve never seen an SSD that needed one to be added, actually so not sure if this is the right way to tackle this. I have seen suggestions
of using another make of driver and I downloaded a load of different ones including Intel on the theory that?s the chipset. In BIOS I get option for AHCI and RAID On and I tried both with same result.
It recognizes different drivers if I check ?Hide drivers that are not compatible?, depending on RAID or AHCI. But any I can see and load still give no drive visible. DISKPART also fails to find the disk so none of the solutions which involve
DISKPART are useful right now.
If it?s relevant when I go to boot options I get: Boot mode ? Legacy, Secure boot: Off.

Greetings MakesOwnWeather,
Thank you for your question.
You'd use what we call a 'hard drive enclosure'. What's the physical size of the external hard drive that you want to use? 2.5 inch? 3.5 inch?
The below device draws power from the eSATA or USB ports so no need for an extra power cable. It accommodates 2.5 inch drives only.

Hello, I took the plunge recently and updated my M6700 from Windows 7 Pro to 10 Pro. I think I finally have all the driver kinks worked out, but I have found out that Windows 10 seems to ignore the BIOS setting for the wireless switch on the side of the laptop. I have the BIOS set for the switch to only turn off WLAN and leave bluetooth on since I use a bluetooth mouse.  Under Win 7 this work just fine, but under Win 10 it activates airplane mode and also disables the bluetooth radio. I cant find any setting to change this. Has anyone else run into this?

I have a Dell M6700
I can turn machine on but laptop screen is blank.
When I plug in VGA I can obtain video - although I do not know if this is on-board graphics or the Quadro M4000
For all I know, it could be:-
1. Graphics card is toast - needs replacing (£500 at least)
2. Screen - The screens on these have a  BIOS which is known to corrupt, meaning it needs to be replaced.
- The screen does not even glow, shimmer or backlight at all .. not a glimmer.
3. BIOS - I think there have been some BIOS updates that cause issues.
I ran the built in ePSA Pre-boot System Assessment (by pressing Fn and Power button)
- Results were I could view in VGA monitor, but nothing interesting came up.
A. What tests could / should I run
B. What could causes be, and how do I step-by-step uncover

I'm happy to work interactive and go back and try things out that people here suggest!

Kind regards,

I've verified that Hyper-V is turned off in Windows Features and Virtualization is enabled in the BIOS along with Hyper-threading. But when I try to install HAXM it gives me a message box saying..."This computer does not support Intel Virtualization Technology (VT-x) or it is being exclusively used by Hyper-V. HAXM cannot be installed. Please ensure Hyper-V is disabled"...which it is.
I've installed and used HAXM on a few computers in the past with no issues. This is the first computer I've faced this on. And I'm about up against a wall on it as I've googled/tried everything I have found that was reasonable.
Can someone please shed some light for me?
Thank to anyone...

I'm wondering if there are any recommended external extended runtime battery options for the 7710 series laptop.
I see dell now has some external add-on battery options for longer runtime for the 5510 -- the Dell Power Companion 1800 mAh
but I assume it must not have sufficient output for the 17" 7700 series.
Is there an equivalent product for the 7700 series? I'd like to add 12 hours of runtime for a location that may have a few power outages a year and wouldn't mind buying a couple or few of these devices if there were one which was compatible.

I have been trying to determine the cause and correction for a Dell Precision M6700 laptop with an AMD FirePro M6000 video card.  If the system is turned off for a significant period of time (30 minutes or longer) the system boots and can see the LCD screen fine--articulate it back and forth, no problem.  About five minutes into use, it begins to flicker solid white before going and staying white.  Occasionally it will flicker normal, but then white again.
If I reboot, the screen stays white throughout the boot process.  If I connect an external monitor and toggle between the video output, I can see the screen on the external monitor.  I can do this even while booting and the screen is white, and see the boot process on the external monitor.
I have replaced the internal video cable (one site recommended) as well as the LCD panel (also recommended).  Short of replacing the video card or motherboard, what else can be done?  Given I can see the video on an external monitor, I am convinced changing the video card will correct the problem.  Given this works fine and at, I am wondering if heat related.  I made sure the fans were clear and heat sinks were both firmly tightened.

I would like to find the replacement part which I believe is SKU dellm6700latch. there the same from what im seeing.
Can anyone confirm this is the correct part and if known anywhere apart from the USA one can be purchased.

Thanks for reading

Hello guys, I'm here looking for help and attached the dump file. Pretty much this is one out of a batch of 15 systems I've deployed recently. No one else has reported any issues, yet. The system bsod coming out of hibernate.

Win 7 / 64 Enterprise

Let me know if I'm missing any other info that would help.

I've ran the dump file and came up with the below, and searched the web for any solution, but nothing has helped.

my name is Tom, I'm from Poland. This is my first post here, so I'm sorry If I'll do something wrong...My english isn't perfect either.
Yesterday my Dell Precision M6700 was working fine, but something happened when I inserted a USB flash drive. I wanted to copy a few files from my hard drive to a USB flash drive. Suddenly everything stopped for a moment (freezes), then some error message has appeared, then...a blue screen appeared.
When I restarted my laptop, this message has appeared: "Invalid Partition Table!".
I can't log to Windows. I've tried to use my Windows Repair Disc, but it didn't fixed the issue.
I think this is a malware problem, but I'm not sure. I don't want to do anything on my own, cause I'm afraid I'm gonna lose my data. If someone can help me with this I would appreciate. This is my working station, so I can't work now. This REALLY is a horrible feeling
My laptop's specs:
Dell Precision M6700, i7-3720Q
Windows 7 (64bit)
A-DATA 128GB 1,8'' mSATA SSD (System C:)
2x hard drive 500GB
I really appreciate any help you can provide

Answer:Invalid Partition Table error on my Dell M6700 - please help :/

Can you get into Repair Mode, via booting the Windows Installation Disk, and selecting Repair.  You will be presented with a Windows Command Prompt, and in that window you would want to type in "chkdsk /f c:" let it run, and see if it fixes it.

I have a latitude 7275 with Windows 10 64bit.  I just downloaded DCPM from the support page for my machine and it will not install.  The file I downloaded is System-Utilities_Application_4T7MN_WN32_2.1.1.  The support page shows this is the correct version for my machine and OS.  The install instructions says the this file will install on 32 bit or 64 bit OS.  However, when I run the file, I get the error that the installation package is not compatible with 64bit OS.
I cannot seem to locate a 64bit installation file.  How do I get this to install?

Answer:7275 win10 64bit Power Manager (DCPM) won't install

Oh, and the DCPM manual refers to a 64bit setup file, but I cannot locate that on the dell website.  Help!

M6700 doesnot show anything on the screen.
here's what i did:
Installed windows 10 in UEFI enabled and Legacy ROM enabled.
After installation, Secure boot.
Blank Screen Now.
Tried reset by removing CMOS battery. no luck
Need Help.

Answer:Dell M6700 Nvidia Quadro K4000M No display After Secure Boot

So i managed to solve the problem.
There are issues with K4000m running in secure boot. You must not disable legacy boot rom.
If you have no display at all here is the painful solution:
Make sure you can open the notebook and put it back together again. (Use an anti-static band etc). remember the screw type and locations etc. refer to a manual or take it to a technician.
So, you will have top open up the whole laptop. remove the Graphics card, remove the screen connectors and connect the laptop to an external display via d-sub (VGA) port. You have a display now. Go to the BIOS and disable secure boot and enable Legacy boot ROM.
Put back the graphics card and everything is back in place.
Recommended BIOS: A15, Still dont use secure boot.
I think the K4000m did not have an EFI rom boot. So hence no display.
Hope it helps anyone having the same problem.

Can anyone run Windows 7 on a Dell Precision 370? I have seen ppl say it is running. I had 32bit Windows 7 Ultimate working on my 370 for a few minutes. Then I installed Win 7 SP1 and it crashed. Now, I cannot get it to start or even freshly install again. I get Blue Screen Of Death ...F4 error, and it reboots. Does anyone have it running at all on a 370 or after SP1 it failed like mine? And which version of Win 7? Thanks (Sorry if this is wrong place to post. I am new here. Any help would be appreciated. )

Answer:Windows 7 on a Dell Precision 370?

Given that Dell ONLY supports XP on this model and no device drivers for Vista/Win 7 it's a hit or miss on whether it will even work with Vista or Win 7. You are in "uncharted territory".

My dell optiplex 740 will open windows ,so before this happened,i install windows 7 home premium instead of windows 7 professional. When it didn't install properly,my windows will not open after i restart my PC it keeps saying  The computer restart unexpectedly  or encountered an error.Windows installation cannot proceed. To install windows, click "OK"to restart the computer, and then restart the installation.this message keeps repeating itself every time i boot my pc up.I try to reset my PC factory settings, but it wouldn't work,do i need  to buy a Dell recovery disk to get my PC running?

Answer:My Dell optiplex 740 mini tower wont open windows. It wonnt install keeps repeating the same thing.Do i need to buy a Dell recovery disk?

Sounds like a faulty hard drive is the cause - F12 at powerup.  Boot to the Dell diagnostics and run an extended test (not just the quick test) on the hard drive -- you'll likely find it fails, in which case - replace the drive and reload.

Hey guys.
Pretty much what the title says - Dell's new, recently-released ControlVault driver (version A19) does not successfully install on a Dell Latitude E6330.  I followed the driver installation order from the "Dell Business Client Re-Image 'How-To' Guide" and installed the Dell ControlVault driver last.  It did not work.
Attached is a screenshot of what I got, and the Windows Installer log.

FOr the last few weeks... I get an error message every time I plug my charger in.  Now I cannot charge my battery.  sometime it works and other times not.  May be related to what ever else is plugged into the house outlets at home... iPad, iPhone, Mac computers, HP printer, etc.

Very annoying and now cannot leave my puter unplugged.

I think it is a software issue as the charger and cord all work fine to keep the puter alive when plugged in.

Hi I have recently bought a Dell Precision 690 PC.I wiped the hard drive and went to install windows xp 64 bit onto it but I keep getting this message" Setup did not find any hard disk drivers installed in your computer. Make sure any hard disk drives are powered on and properly connected to your computer, and that any disk-related hardware configuration is correct. This may involve running a manufacturer-supplied diagnostic or setup program. Setup cannot continue. To quit Setup, press F3." I dont know what to do next.

Answer:Dell Precision 690 Windows xp Set up trouble

It is because XP does not have the drivers for the storage controller that the drives are connected to.  Are your drives connected to the motherboard or to a card?  If a card, is it the SAS 5/iR or the PERC 5/i?
